Recently i was involved in an accident that was a direct impact. At the time of this accident the seat belt did not lock nor did the air bags deploy.the speed from this accident was between 50-55 mph on the highway. At the rate of speed i was going before the accident and the fact that i had toslam on the breaks to begin slowing down one would have thought the seat belt would have locked but it did not and at the point of impact i was very surprised that the airbags did not deploy but yet the system indicated that it did and needed to be reset.however now that the vehicle is in process of being repaired i am being told that the entire airbag system has to be replaced along with the driver seat belt.

The contact owns a 2012 chevrolet silverado. The contact received a notification for nhtsa campaign number: 22v054000(air bags); however, the parts for the repair were unavailable. The dealer had been notified about the recall; however, the contact was informed that the parts were not yet available. The manufacturer had been notified of the recall. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the repair. The contact had not experienced a failure. Vin tool confirms parts not available.

There's cracks surrounding my passenger airbag in my 2012 silverado. These cracks are not only a manufacturer defect in design but are also a safety concern regarding the air bag deployment. Research has shown this is an issue that many others are having too with this model truck/suv.

While driving, a driver cut in front of me and literally slammed on their brakes.i was not at fault in the accident.my airbags deployed and caused significant injury to my head.the injury was not consistent with an airbag deployment in conjunction with me wearing my seatbelt.i was diagnosed with a severe concussion and many other ailments, balance dysfunction, memory loss, parasympathetic anomalies, etc. It seems impossible the airbag deployment could have caused such significant injury considering the low speed of the crash correlated with proper seat belt utilization.

The dash is cracked by the air bag housing the door handles are discolored and the exhaust system is also discolored.

The contact owns a 2012 chevrolet silverado. While driving at 40 mph, the air bags deployed inadvertently. The contact was injured due to the force of the air bag deployment and required medical attention. No police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where an investigation was opened by general motors, which indicated that the vehicle was in a roll over crash but the contact mentioned that the vehicle was not involved in a crash and the investigation was not consistent with what was experienced. The approximate failure mileage was 58,000.

"takata recall", i have a crack in my dash that is located right next to passenger side airbag. This is a safety hazard because my dash will continue to crack that will cause my passenger side airbag to fail when it will be needed to protect passengers that ride in my vehicle. I have done a lot of research on this topic and general motors knows that this is happening and they won't do nothing to fix it. My vehicle was stationary in my driveway when i heard a loud pop noise which i notice that my dash had cracked.

The contact owns a 2012 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that when the vehicle drove over rough patches in road, the service air bag warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the air bag sensor needed to be clean off and reinstalled. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 46,000.updated 05/20/16*lj

Front window safety adhesion from factory install bad on all black trucks.bodys and air bags have no resistance through front window(replaced mine and found out major flaw).all adhesion connections not sticking.no resistance from window in factory installs///all.fixing to tweet this info.

Dash is cracked around the air bag area concerned this might affect the air bag deployment. Even though gm states it will not affect it, the crack is in a corner of the deployment zone. The dash is also cracked in a area above the gauges. Everyone i know that has this make and model has the same problem. A person i know has about 20,000 miles on the vehicle and is already cracked as well.

The contact owns a 2012 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that the air bag warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the air bag impact sensor failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 84,000.

Front side airbag sensor went bad

Cracks in the dash at the airbag may become projectiles.

The contact stated that while starting the vehicle the air bag warning indicator light illuminatedthe contact called onstar who completed diagnostic testing. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 126,625.

There is a very high pitch noise the is emitted from behind the dash. This noise is distracting to the point that my wife can not ride in the truck let alone drive it. I have taken the truck to the dealer and was told by the service department that general motors is aware of this noise and it is acceptable.

Brakes are spongy does not stop truck until pumped, power train clunking noise when turning and shifting, electrical at times dash lights dim at any given time, many other complaints very rough ride, trans shifts very hard, when coming to a traffic light runs rough. Has been to dealer once and last thursday got a call from gm the dealership has not responded to my problems.

Here is a brief history of the issues involving the 1012 chevrolet silverado lt texas edition after the purchase date of september 3, 2012.first, i noticed that it has increasingly become more difficult to open the front passenger window from the driver side master control unit around 2014.now, i have to press hard several times to open the window.second, the outside moldings of the door panels are falling off starting in mid-2014.third, i have started to hear popping noises coming from the ball joints when the steering wheel is turned to the left or right at a very low speed starting the beginning of 2014.these issues were reported to the chevrolet customer service at the gm headquarters in august 2015.on september 4, 2015, the truck was finally diagnosed by the chevrolet dealership service department that sold the pickup.the invoice dated september 4, 2015 indicates the lower ball joints worn with play, door moldings falling off, and the driver's master switch shorted.

The contact owned a 2012 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that the vehicle caught on fire while parked. The fire was extinguished by a fire department. A police/fire report was filed and there were no injuries reported. The vehicle was towed to a salvage yard and the cause of the fire was undetermined. The vin was not available. I have had a recurring problem with my new 2012 chevrolet silverado 1500 lt (5.3 liter engine) going into "reduced engine power mode" which also results in the disabling of stability control and traction control. This is a dangerous condition in that it results in a loss of power while operating the vehicle upon the roadway.an authorized repair facility has replaced the number one and two throttle sensors, the accelerator pedal assembly, the throttle body, the alternator, the computer, and a large ground wire behind the dash. A gm engineer was flown in and now the repair center is replacing the engine wiring harness. The vehicle (which was purchased less than three months ago) has been out of service for approximately 30 days. In researching this matter i have found that chevy has had an ongoing problem with this in various vehicles in its product line since 2003. Although several service bulletins have been produced there does not seem to be a consensus regarding the cause of this problem. All of the parts associated with trouble codes c0242, p2127, and p2138 have been replaced without result. This condition could result in the affected vehicles being rearended, or, because of the loss of stability and traction control, result in a roll over. This needs to be addressed immediately.

Driving slow on wet gravel road and a large cloud orf white smoke and flames erupted from drivers side of hood. Stopped and grabbed the fire extinguisher from behind drivers seat and attempted to open hood with hood release but hood would not open. Attempted to put out fire thru drivers side front wheel well but was unsuccessful. Called 911. Entire cab and engine compartment was consumed by the time 911 arrived.

Efm issue: life-time chevy silverado owner, currently own 2003 & 2012 1500 silverado 1/2 tons. Ever since gm started using efm chips, for some unknown reason the engine will lose several quarts of oil for no reason. Without warning the check engine light comes on. Pull-over & check the oil level. On every occasion, (several incidents now), much to my surprise the oil level barely registers on the dip stick. Where did 3-4 quarts of oil go? yesterday the oil level was full, today the oil level is almost non-existent - without a drop of oil leaking anywhere? i now have to carry 3-4 quarts of oil with me everywhere i go just in case the check engine light comes on. Gm should do the right thing and issue a recall. Warning: if you drive a chevy you better keep 4 quarts of oil with you at all times in the event this happens to you. Not immediately pulling-over & filling the oil level back to proper level may destroy your engine. Fix this efm issue > loss of oil, as it has been going on for years and still persists after 2 complete model changeovers. This major malfunction is the result of the efm system dumping the oil into the exhaust & the catalytic converter burning it away. That is the only plausible explanation for losing so much oil without warning and without a drop of oil being found anywhere outside the engine or underneath the engine compartment or chassis.

I bought my 2012 texas edition silverado august 4, 2012the transmission started responding abnormal immediately after leaving the dealership it had 135 miles on it before i bought it i have 32k miles now and nothing has change all the same issues but they seem to be getting worst. My transmission has a hard time shifting no matter what, up, down, turn, forward all normal driving maneuvers. When it does try and shift the engine clatters which is extremely ridiculous i've had several silverado's and the last one that clatter this way was a 1978 with probably over 300,000(expected). My transmission does as stated by others the coming to a stop sign and applying the brakes the truck will launch forward unexpectedly and shift extremely hard this is the first new vehicle i've ever bought the last 4 were all silverado from 78-94 and they didn't do this. This truck also wears the outer edge of my tres no matter how many alignments and balance and rotating i get done. You may say your tire your fault but i've looked at over 40 2012 silverado's in parking lots and saw the exact same wear pattern the owners are probably not the type to check or care. The biggest concern is the $30,000 i paid for this thing and expected it to run for the next 20 years but i'm at less than 2 years and it feels like the transmission and engine are going to jump out and fly through an intersection leaving me at a green light. If i were to let any chevy "big shot" drive this for 1 week as their daily driver (it's my daily) they would probably stop driving it on day 1 and ask me how i've done it for almost 2 years. My reply would be i don't have the money to get another one and you "big shot" need to get this fixed. Active duty military (no money) over worked under paid. Took my savings bought a truck that i waited 23 years to buy and then the thing is in worst shape than the 1994 extendedcab i had.

Without any impact or damage the third brake light has cracked and the dealer won't warranty.

I was pulled over twice with in 30 mins for having a my right passenger headlight out.i've replaced the headlight, checked fuses, relay and tested the socket power and all were fine

Working in the yard, i noticed out of the corner of my eye that there appeared to be moisture in my passenger side taillight.an inspection of the taillight showed multiple fractures in the housing across the rear portion.these fractures allow water to enter the unit. A fracture roughly a quarter inch up limits the water accumulation.i then checked the driver's side unit & noticed the same failure is starting.at the time of discovery i had just over 1000 engine hours on the vehicle and just over 126k miles.i purchased the vehicle new & i have owned the vehicle roughly 38.5 months.bulbs have a greater life expectancy than the taillight assembly designed to protect them and promote safety.the dealer says the replacement of the assemblies are my issue.these items are required by state and federal law to meet certain standards.depending on fracture placement the bulbs may short out or fail due to corrosion.failure of the assembly can lead to someone missing a turn signal, a stop or notice that you are backing up.i believe these failures increase the possibility of having an accident.based prior experiences with other vehicles i believe this is a manufacture defect.i'm theorizing that because the rear of my vehicle catches the evening sun it is my belief that these were designed using cheaper materials that potentially did not provide for the ability to holdup to the uv rays of natural sunlight. The driver's side and third light on the cab received more shade due to a neighbor's tree that was removed last year so the sun impact would be less.i notice there is another complaint for this model year about a cab placed rear light assembly echoing the same issue.

Parked facing upslope.the truck slipped out of park gear and rolled downhill backwards, knocking over owner.finally hit a tree and stopped.insurance declared it totaled.

This fault has been present since the first week of owning my 2012 silverado crew cab lt equipped with the 5.3 liter and 6 speed transmission.upon slowing to a stop, the truck surges and lunges forward as the transmission downshifts between gears, and is most noticeable when traveling up or down hills.the failure mode can be technically described as the following sequence of events:1.slowing to a stop (coasting), engine begins riding out 4th gear (for example).2.apply brakes; transmission downshifts to 3rd, and engine rpms increase to compensate for dynamics of shifting.torque converter immediately engages the engine to the wheels.as the engine is at a high rpm level, an accelerating load is applied to the wheels, while braking.3.this creates an unintended surge of acceleration, which is then also noticeable through the remaining gears (truck slows, then surges, slows, then surges until coming to a complete stop).i have also verified that this is a common complaint in the online forums, and many people are experiencing this fault.in fact, one of the dealerships actually informed me that many of his customers go to an aftermarket shift program to avoid the issue.i have tried this, and it did not resolve the issue. Each time the transmission is evaluated at the dealership, the daps (digital parameters) are "reset" (according to the service shops), and the truck drives fantastically.however, roughly10 miles later, it is back to exhibiting the exact same failure mode. Dealership has troubleshoot this fault extensively, and has stated that this mode of operation is "normal" - i asked them to explain how forward acceleration during braking was "normal", and of course they could not.

The contact owns a 2012 chevrolet silverado. While driving at 70 mph, the gear shifted independently and various warning lights illuminated prior to the transmission failing. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,361.

The contact owns a 2012 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked with the emergency brake engaged, the contact reached in from the passenger's side to shut the engine down and the vehicle rolled away in reverse. The contact was dragged several feet before the vehicle crashed into a bridge. The contact sustained major bruising and scratches to several parts of the body. A police report was not filed. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. The vehicle was not repaired or inspected to determine the cause of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000.

The contact owns a 2012 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that vehicle was parked and erroneously shifted out of gear, crashing into his garage. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 15,003.

Was driving up to the stop sign. It felt like the transmission was shifting hard. Sorta like jerking.

Happened driving home after buying vehicle. Transmission shifts hard from a complete stop as 1st gear was being engaged. Drove it until break in period was over and took it back to the dealer were the transmission body and valves were replaced. Nowgetting more problems with the transmission shifting between gears at a speed of 35-45 mph. Transmission disengages and i have no power going to the wheels, like it shifts to neutral for a 5-10 seconds. This will cause an accident if transmission does not reengage while driving in traffic. You will get rear ended.

I have been having problems with my chevy silverado truck, texas edition, it has 23,800 miles on it i purchased it with o miles, i adhere to oil changes and any repairs in timely manner. My truck has been in service department twice for the same issue, when the transmission is switching gears, it makes a clunking noise while driving it, it feels like someone is bumping the rear of truck. The repairs include transmission hard shifting 2 - 3 times, rr upper control valve body and spacer plate replaced, reset transmission, 1 2 3 4 clutch regulator valve binding in bore. Also replaced springs, second service the u joints anitsd yoke replaced, my truck continues with same problem, please look in to this its horrible & very disappointing why can`t they fix it, my truck sounds like an old vehicle i think something is wrong with suspension. I`m desperate to find an answer. Its an expensive truck to be dealing with these issues.

My wife parked the truck in the driveway just outside of our attached garage. She left the vehicle running because she was unloading groceries and had another errand to run. While she was inside the house the vehicle started moving. One of our children that was outside saw this occurring and started to scream that the truck was moving. My wife ran in an attempt to get in the vehicle and stop it before it hit the wall. She was unsuccessful and the truck crashed into the wall that separates the garage and the family room cause damage to the wall and door that leads into the house. My wife states that when she got inside the truck it was still in park. The truck only suffered a small dent. My wife was extremely shaken up. I will be taking the truck in on may 31,2014 to [xxx]in miamisburg, ohio. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I had driven back home from tahoe around 6:00pm and the vehicle was parked for 2 hours when we attempted to open the slide on the 5th wheel.i found the slide on the trailer would not open due to a lack of power on the 5th wheel. At this time the pigtail was still connected to the truck.i disconnected the pigtail from the truck and plugged the trailer into a 50 amp plug and the slide opened normally.i thought it was strange that the battery had discharged after such a short time. Around 10:45pm my girlfriend screamed the trailer was on fire and when i reached the backdoor the entire trailer was engulfed and the rear of the truck was already on fire.both the vehicles were completely destroyed along with a barn that was approximately10 feet away suffering major damage.

Rear head rests do not have a locking mechanism to keep them locked in place when raised. This allows the rear head rests to fall to the lowest position with very little force.general motors has stated that this is normal and within specifications. Owners are advised to inspect the rear head rests to determine for themselves whether this poses an acceptable risk to their passengers.adults riding in the rear seat should be advised of this condition.

Safety concern- potential trailering accident!!!it appears that chevrolet/gm has changed the wiring in their vehicles so that electric trailer brake controllers no longerilluminate the trailer brake lights when the electric brake controller is operated independently from the vehicle brakes.allbrake lightswork fine whenthe foot brake is applied but no brake lights illuminate when the controller overide is applied to operate the trailer brakes independently. There are times when trailering that one only wishes to use the trailer brakes to settle down swaying or on long down hill grades.2012 vehicles are not wired so that brake lights also work off the controller override switch. I have been towing for over 26 years and brake lights have always worked both on the foot brake and controller override brake switch.this is a potential accident waiting to happen.if one applies the trailer brakes alone withno brake lights illuminating, this could cause another vehicle to slam into the back of the trailer and tow vehicle causing a crash. Chevrolet states they cannot connect the trailer controllers to operate the brake lights as it would back feed power into the electronics of the vehicle voiding any warranty on the vehicle.trailer brakeslights only work as connected to the vehicle wiring when stepping on the foot brake.

This truck has chattered, hopped, and had bad brakes as soon as we drove the truck off of the lot. When we went with the dealer who sold us the truck, my husband said why is it vibrating & he told us that it was in the tires from "sitting". It has had 2 new wheels & numerous brakes, pads, rotors, calipers, drums. & it still vibrates. The dealership has even put another trucks tires & rims on the truck & it still vibrates. This is unacceptable for a new vehicle. When i called the gm district specialist on 5/29/13 she told me that the vibration& hit & miss acceleration was a characteristic of the truck. $40,000 truck & it is not a very good ride.

I believe these cracks are not only a manufacturer defect in design but are also a safety concern regarding the air bag deployment. Research has shown this is an issue that many others are having too with this model truck/suv.

Dash cracked at corner dash above left side of passenger side airbag only 35k on vehicle 3.5 years old with use of sunshade half the time

There is a very high pitch noise the is emitted from behind the dash. This noise is distracting to the point that my wife can not ride in the truck let alone drive it. I have taken the truck to the dealer and was told by the service department that general motors is aware of this noise and it is acceptable.

Water comes in around backwindow from third brake light over it. The dealer service dept . Said it happens a lot ,it comes from factorythat way, with no gasket around it. He said only way it fix it was let them replace it was a few hundred dollars to fix it. It comes from the factory with this defect.

Truck was parked when i got back into it the dashboard was cracked

Door handle comes off on driver and passenger door, makes it impossible to open the doors of the vehicle

My 2012 silverado ls has 22,000 miles. It is a shame because it is a beautiful truck, but the frame looks terrible. It is not a little rust here and there. The rust is literally all over the frame. There is more of the frame with rust than without.the frame is very easy to see. Unfortunately for gm, my truck is a rolling billboard and the rust is getting worst every year.

I bought my 2012 chevy octof 2013. Now after 11000 miles my frame looks like a truck out of the 80's. I took it back to the local dealer. There fix is to scrape off the rust and put the same crap back on the frame. So i know that this issue will only last a very short time.

The contact owns a 2012 chevrolet silverado. While driving approximately 10 mph, the vehicle suddenly accelerated independently. The contact depressed the brake pedal and was able to stop the vehicle. The failure recurred twice. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 2,500.

When you try to accelerate, the truck does not respond. The truck acceleration feels like their is a flat spot in the acceleration. This is very dangerous. Several of my family members have almost gotten in terrible t-bone accidents due to this malfunction. Brought the truck to the local dealership & the said they replaced the throttle position sensor & it is worse now.

I had a tire blow out and deflation within 10 seconds on a dirt road. I loosened the lug nuts with the supplied tire iron and pulled my lower back muscles (tire iron too short). The lug nuts corners rounded off (not hardened steel as they should be), and most serious, the jack is a potential killer. It has a small diameter disk (approx 1and 1/2 inch diameter) on top, with four small bumps on it at 90 degrees from each other. The instructions are to locate the jack under the rear axle approximately 2 inches inboard from the shock absorber all by pushing the jack with the 4 foot long jack handle. Virtually impossible to locate it properly under the axle. I crawled under the vehicle and gave up as i could not hold it in place under the axle and crank the handle at the same time. A good samaritan passerby stopped and he tried to hold the jack in place (reaching over the top of the flat tire) as i cranked the handle. The vehicle went up and immediately slipped off the axle (on a gravel road). There is no way that four little bumps on the top of the jack will hold the jack in place under the axle while a person jacks it up. If you can keep it in place and manage to jack the truck up, try to remove the wheel and put the spare on without the jack flipping out of position and the vehicle crashing down.. It is a potential killer. I will never use the tire jack again.... This all was with perfect conditions; (except the gravel road) off the highway, perfect weather, and daylight. Try it in the rain or snow on the side of a busy highway in the dark....
