Read complaints for CHEVROLET SILVERADO (2011)

My vehicle was forced off the road by another vehicle causing my vehicle to hit a light pole head on. No air bags deployed. Driver and passenger suffered injury.

Dash cracked right above airbag only 40 thousand miles on truck. It's known to be a widespread problem with these vehicles and could cause a safety concern being by airbag

My airbag sensor light comes on and then goes off. I heard that gm had a recall on this. Does this also affect the silverados?

The contact owns a 2011 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that the check air bag warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that door air bag sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

We has our truck in for repairs 5 weeks prior due to the airbag light coming on.it was repaired but now the light came back on.we brought it back in and now are being told the wires are corroded propbablyfrom moisture (we live in the desert where it does not rain, nor is it exposed to moisture).the airbag has to be replaced and is costing us over $800.

I was driving into the parking garage at work to a parking spot.as i braked and slowed turning into the parking spot the truck accelerated and crashed into a concrete support beam.airbags deployed and the truck suffered quite a bit of damages to the passenger side front end.i am unsure of speed at time of accident.

Car pulled out from gas station into path of my vehicle striking it in left rear quarter panel and left rear wheel. My truck spun to the left striking a semi truck totaled my truck heavy front end damage. Injury to my stepson who was the driver. Air bags never deployed nor did seat belts keep him in place allowing him to hit his head on the roof of the truck cab

Dashboard crack near passenger airbag. Safety issue in my opinion. Numerous other complaints not vehicle specific. Many chevrolet dashboard issues. Facebook page dedicated to gm crack dash issues

We were making a stop at the light, when a 18-wheeler didn't stop and hit us in the back ,pushing us towards the bus that was in front of us , making the glass of the back breakand throwing all the crystals in our body and clothes ,the air bags never open , thefront seats were broken and 3 of the 4 doors couldn't close anymore, the driver tried to make a move to the left or right , but he could not , because we were stuck, when we realize there were no major injury, westayeduntil the red cross came to check our condition, but there were crystals everywhere so we couldn't move without hurting ourselves.we buy the truck with 2 miles, weare the only owners.

The dashboard is broken at the upper left corner of the air bag housing on the passenger side.

The dash surrounding the air bag on the passenger side of the vehicle cracked. Don't know how this will affect the operation of the air bag in case of an emergency.

Dash is cracking around airbag and instrument panel causing serious concern about projectiles if airbag were to deploy.

While driving in traffic the silverado's, engine, power steer and power brakes shutdown completely.after the vehicle stopped.the automatic transmission was placed in park and the truck restarted normally.i took the truck to the dealer and they found no problem or code. The same event happened again about 3 months later while i was on an interstate driving about 70 mph. The i was able to bring the vehicle to a stop in the side of the roadi then placed the transmission in park and the vehicle started normally.i believe there is an issue with the ignition switch.

The contact owns a 2011 chevrolet silverado. While attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start and the key remained in the start position. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The contact was aware of nhtsa campaign number: 14v827000 (electrical system); however, the vin was not included. The failure mileage was 60,000.

The contact owned a 2011 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 35 mph, all of the warning lights on the instrument panel illuminated, the gauges failed, and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle failed to restart. The contact noticed smoke coming from the engine compartment and the vehicle caught fire. The fire was extinguished by the fire department. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000. Updated 12/03/15*lj

Once the vehicle is in park it is sitting up and after putting the vehicle in reverse and starting to drive the vehicle lowers to the ground. The vehicle pulls when driving and causes an additional pull on the engine and fuel system.

First of three vehicle collisions this year involving chevrolet silverados that have caught fire after involved in frontal impacts.vehicle traveling westbound on sr 58 in lane county, oregon. Involved in secondary collision with a toyota pickup truck that had been struck by a loose truck tractor wheel. The impact by the wheel caused the toyota to encroach into the path of the chevrolet.the occupants of chevrolet were able to extricate themselves.the vehicle subsequently caught fire and suffered extensive fire damage.

I was traveling on a divided highway and approaching a slow moving truck in the right lane ahead of me.there was another truck behind me in my lane.i moved to the left lane to pass the slow truck.just after i began the pass my pickup slowed quickly and began flashing error messages: stability control disabled, engine power reduced & service stabilitrak.the truck behind me had moved up close and followed me around the slow moving truck.i was unable to accelerate and continued slowing quickly.i had just enough room to swerve in behind the slow truck as my speed fell below its speed.the truck behind me narrowly avoided a rear impact with my truck, which, i believe, would have been catastrophic.i pulled to the right and tried to speed up.about 40 mph was all my truck would do.i stopped and got out the manual.it said to reset the stabilitrak, turn the vehicle off for 30 seconds.i did that and the truck seemed to functioned normally, at least as far as engine power.i still had traction control & stabilitrak error messages and the service engine light was on.i was able to return 40 miles to my home town with no further incidents.i was able to get my truck into the chevy dealer on the 30th.the service rep recognized my description immediately as a "throttle sensor" failure.it was repaired under warranty.there have been no further incidents.my concerns are dual: first, only luck and years of emergency vehicle operation training enabled me to avoid being hit from behind by the following truck when my truck unexpectedly and without warning lost power.an impact would have likely be life threatening considering the speed and proximity of two trucks.second, subsequently, i have found multiple internet reports of this issue going back several model years and my service paper work indicates a gm service bulletin for it exists.

Driving about 60 mph about 10 miles into the trip when the truck lost speed, the abs brakes did a slight on and off pulsating every couple of seconds, the engine was running rough and giving it gas the engine revved up but wouldn't go anywhere. Speed dropped down to 35 or 40 mph and wouldn't go any faster. The dash indicator showed messages stating stabilitrak traction control turned off and check engine light is on. It jolted real hard when it shifts gears.when i mashed the brake it didn't want to come to a complete stop without pressing the brakes to hold the truck there. I pulled into a store popped the hood and finding nothing i turned the truck off for a few seconds and restarted it but nothing changed and the error messages were still being displayed. The trucks engine was running rough. I headed home and it didn't have any power and jolted hard as it shifted gears. I coudln't go but 35 or 40 mph on the level ground. If i went up a slight hill the truck slowed down more until i got past the hill.i gave it gas and the engine would rev up but had no power and wouldn't go 35 or 40 mph. I parked the truck in the garage and in 10 minutes i went to start it to get the error messages and it started up fine and the engine wasn't running rough. I drove it 1/2 mile down the road and back and it ran perfect. I googled the error messages and found alot of complaints and comments about this issue on the chevrolet forum website.no recall information just alot of people experiencing the same issue and alot worse cases that almost caused accidents. Is there a recall on this issue? i read that i will probably have the issue again because after it sits for 10 min it probably won't have a problem until a few minutes or days later. I can only hope doesn't cause me to have a wreck and kill myself or someone else. This is a major issue and should be recalled to fix the problem.

We have had a recurring issue with the traction control feature on this vehicle since buying it. Randomly and out of nowhere it will show stabilitrak off on the instrument panel. The engine becomes sluggish when this happens. This, to me, is a safety hazard when driving. There is also an issue with the ignition getting stuck when starting where it grinds the starter. I have to turn the truck off and start it again to get it to stop. I have had the vehicle at the dealer where it was purchased and they have no clue what to do about the stabilitrak issue. I have read many complaints on this and there should be a recall.

I was driving my daughter to school and the vehicle slowed down on its own. And when i pushed the gas it jumped and shifted hard, had to cruise all the way home vehicle wouldn't start back up. Stability and traction control lights came on engine reduced speed and cut off.

Check engine light is displayed and the motor is hesitating.this issue is a second occurrence due to the valve cover leaking and causing the spark plugs to go bad.first time the vehicle was under warranty at approximately 29000 miles and now the vehicle has 39000 miles and the issue has recurred.this appears to be a continually recurring problem for 2011 chevrolet silverado trucks.

The contact owns a 2011 chevrolet silverado. While driving approximately 15 mph, the contact depressed the brake pedal, but the vehicle continued to accelerate. The contact stated that the throttle was also sticking and the engine indicator was illuminating. The vehicle stalled and would not restart for ten minutes. This was a recurring failure. The contact had to push the onstar button, which provided the codes of the failure. The failure codes stated that the pps throttle system was failing. The dealer stated that they could not locate a failure. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 83,918. The vin was unknown.

My dash is cracking around the passenger airbag and above the instrument cluster. I am concerned that the cracked areas could come loose and become a projectile. The engine is also burning oil badly and could shut down while driving

Backed into hay rake

On oct 4th, 2014 i was traveling from san angelo, tx to san antonio, tx, in my 2011 3500 chevrolet diesel pickup, pulling our 5th wheel camper. When i neared junction, tx i could smell an odor of fuel. On i-10 eb mile 456, i noticed that my fuel gauge was rapidly dropping. When i left junction, the gauge read half full. At mile marker 497, i pulled into a rest stop, because the fuel gauge had dropped to the empty mark. I got out of the truck and could see the diesel pouring off the bottom of the motor. When the dripping stopped i attempted to start the truck, but it would not start. The starter motor was running, but the fuel tank was completely empty. In that distance the truck should have used five gallons of diesel pulling the trailer. Which means that about 14 gallons were dumped onto the highway within 40 miles. My truck was towed to cecil atkission chevrolet in kerrville, tx. The diesel technician there told me that mine would be the 4th diesel he recently worked on with a similar issue. He even showed me another diesel truck that he was currently working on, also with a fuel leak.

I have a 2011 chevy silverado with a fuel gauge problem. While driving downhill, my fuel gauge light just comes on and the fuel gauge goes down toempty. The vehicle then stalls losing all power and control of the vehicle (brakes, steering). As i reach the bottom of the hill, i have to place the vehicle in park and it starts right back up but the fuel gauge stays atempty.i had the vehicle serviced at a gm dealership and it was stated by the tech that vehicle is working as designed. This was also confirmed by gm engineering department. If i recall, the fuel pump is placed more toward the back of truck and while driving downhill gas moves towards front of tank giving the fuel sensor a false reading. I'm no engineer but i had a 2009 silverado and never came across this problem. This is a big vehicle and i believe this poses a great safety risk to myself and family as well as the public. Many times when the truck has lost all power steering and braking capability, myself or my family members who are driving have narrowly avoided accidents. Gm tech and gm corporate said remedy is to keep more gas in vehicle. This is a continuous problem as at times in travel i may not keep my tank as full as required by gm.

Tank was filled to less than 1/2 tank and after stopping at location and restarting vehicle.fuel level read empty.fuel levels and computer system not accurate. Multiple occurrences. I did speak with the dealership and they "think" it could be the fuel pump.it has been doing this since the initial purchase.new vehicle status.

Everytime i go to the pump it kicks out like the tank is full. If you hold the nozzle as its barely coming out it will work normal but you cant even use the lowest notch on the pump to set it on to pump gas, it wont work. So it needs to be fixed and i've told the chevy dealer about it and they said there is nothing wrong with it and no recall. Im trying to make it a recall now so it will be fixed.

2011 chevrolet silverado. Consumer writes in regards to mechanical, electrical and transmission problems with vehicle. *tgw the consumer stated while driving down the road on a steep incline, with the truck and trailer loaded, the engine's rpm suddenly went to 5500 rpm, without increase in acceleration. He depressed the brake to release the cruise control, and strongly pressed the gas pedal several times before the engine would return to a normal rpm.

Truck downshifts to passing gear such as entering a highway on ramp and stepping down to enter slower traffic engine revs to red line on tach because it does not shift into any gear leaving you hung out to dry in traffic until you figure out what's goin on you have fully let up for it to find a gear by this time your speed came drop 10 mph very dangerous , had to two different dealers twice both said it has no problem one said it was the torque management system and it was normal.but if i wanted it to go away take it some where and have the program wiped from computer but warranty will then be void.also truck slams into gear when slowing down to go around a corner.when starting vehicle it jumps forward so bad i am afraid to keep it in my garage. Spoke to two different chevy reps both are like talking to a wall ,they are not employed to help you just to run around in circles until you give up.research all chevy products before buying. Silverados have alot of transmission issues. Just a horrible truck.

The contact owns a 2011 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that when adding oil to the vehicle, it was discovered that the transmission dip stick tube had separated from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, who diagnosed that the dip stick tube needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

#1. Vehicle accelerates when letting off gas, even while going uphill the vehicle will accelerate. You can go up a steep hill without touching the gas. Brought the vehicle to the dealership they replaced, the throttle body, gas pedal assembly. They reinstalled the original parts and told us that this was normal. We drove other 2011 chevy silverado's which did not do the same thing. The dealership told us that all the 2011 chevy silverado's accelerate on their own. #2. There is a clunking noise from the rear when driving over bumps. The dealership said this is normal backlash, and did not do anything.

When driving my seat belt comes un hooked also when connecting when starting at it has to click twice and sometimes if you pull on it it will come disconnected. Very concerned.

The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 11,138.

Since about 16,000 miles, my rear breaks have been squeaking.the chevy dealer has cleaned the breaks twice now and it has resoled the problem for a few months, but has always returned.each time they cleaned the rear drum breaks, they stated there was excessive break dust.there clearly is an issue with this year model and the rear drum breaks.

Accelerating from a stopped position at traffic light approx 1.5 vehicle lengths behind another vehicle. Vehicle in front of mine did not move. Pressed brake pedal with max pressure. Brakes did not fully engage causing contact to be made with other vehicle.

In (always and only) very cold weather warning messages appear on the dashboard warning of traction control/abs failure. On a snow covered road the rear axel sent power to the wheel with the least traction and the truck started sliding backwards. Abs brakes fail to work as anti-lock.this failure occurs whenever the temperature is below 25 degrees. The failure occurs at any speed and is preceded with difficulty shifting out of park.note: i did a google search on this issue and found it has been occurring for several years across general motors brand vehicles.

Brake failure. Applied brakes rapidly due to vehicle stopping in front of me. Noticed tire squeal then brake pedal remained firm but, my vehicle failed to stop. Had to steer into opposite travel lane to avoid accident. Brakes then began to function normally. Drove to dealership to have checked. Service manager said brakes checked ok. In route to my home service brake soon light appeared on dash display.

The dashboard cracked on the passenger side of vehicle near the top left corner of the passenger side air bag. Dealership would fix the issue but only at full cost to me, even though i expressed the concern i have how if the airbag were to deploy the sharp edges of the cracked area may not allow the air bag to work properly. I.e. Could puncture the airbag. Also shards of the dashboard could cause harm if airbag were to deploy

My dash is cracking around the passenger airbag and above the instrument cluster. I am concerned that the cracked areas could come loose and become a projectile. The engine is also burning oil badly and could shut down while driving

Takata recall the dash in my 2011 chevrolet pickupsuddenly cracked.it is cracked in the corner of the passenger airbagi ask my chevrolet dealer and they said it wasn't covered under the warranty.i have heard of several gm owners that have thw same problem . The venicle was not in motion.this vehicle has not been exposed to extended peroids of sunshine or hot weather.the vhicle is normally kept in my garage when not in use. Photoscould be prividedbut i do not know how to do it.

I have a 2011 silverado 1500 and about 6 months ago my dash around the passenger air bag started to crack. I now have 2 cracks and the area feels loose which worries me that in case of a accident with airbag deployment on the passanger side, that this could impair the safety and design for its purpose.

The dash bord in my truck has a crack next to the air bag which am scare is going to be a safe issue and this i noticed when the truck had about 45000 miles

Dashboard crack near passenger airbag. Safety issue in my opinion. Numerous other complaints not vehicle specific. Many chevrolet dashboard issues. Facebook page dedicated to gm crack dash issues

Started hearing noise from dash on highway upon further inspection notice cracks on dashboard on passenger side around air bag

The truck had less than 50,000 miles when we noticed a crack in the dash running from the upper left corner of the air bag cover and the defroster vent. I know several other trucks with this same issue. It appears to be a design flaw. I went to the local dealer and he estimated it would take nearly $1,000 to fix. I wonder if this crack would be negatively influenced if the air bag ever inflates causing more damage or injury.

Backed into hay rake

Cracked dashboard

The driver side door handle completely broke and now my door will not open. This is a real problem with several chevrolet models my wife also has a 08 tahoe and all four handles have been replaced and the driver side has pulled loose again. For the price we have to pay for our vehicles we should be getting a better product.

The driver side mirror will not adjust outward far enough to eliminate a blind spot on that side of the vehicle.9/22/11 tom bannen chevrolet in madison tn attempted to solve the problem by replacing the mirror, but that resulted in no improvement.12/8/11 i complained to the dealer again.[xxx], the service writer, sat in my truck, operated the mirror and confirmed that the mirror would not adjust outward far enough to eliminate a blind spot.he said that it was definitely not right,' and they would check it out to see what repair is needed.but when i picked up the truck, they said it operates like all their other trucks and would make no improvement.12/10/11 i complained to gm at 866-790-5600.12/21/11 "district specialist" john (extension 42327) said gm will not do anything to correct the problem and that this is gm's final position on this problem. This defect leaves a blind spot in my view, and that increases the hazard of moving left to change lanes.i am, of course, am not satisfied with this situation.it places me at greater risk than should be necessary when driving my truck.perhaps other silverado owners are suffering this same increased risk.please promptly provide a solution, instruct my dealer on that solution, and notify me.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The defrost on my truck does not funtion properly. It may take up to 15 to 20 minutes for my front windshield and driver and passenger window to clear. The windows are clear when i pull out of the garage. As i am traveling to my destination the windshield and driver and pssenger windows fog up. I usually pull over to the side of the road until it clears. I let my truck warm up before leaving the driveway so the air coming out is warm. Most of the time i may have an 8 inch circle to see out of. If i wipe it off it comes back again. This has been happening since i purchased the vehicle in 2014. I didn't like but i was living with it. But this is certainly a hazard to me and other drivers.
