I was on my way home from work after working a very long day and i fell asleep at the wheel and went off the side of 225. All i remember was waking up in between trees about two feet away from sims bayou. My vehicle was totaled. No air bags deployed.
7:10 a.m. Tuesday morning, i hit black ice and lost control of my vehicle. I proceeded to slide uncontrollably across the road. I then hit a cliff with the front end of my vehicle, once i hit the the cliff my vehicle then flipped in the air and landed on the driver side of the vehicle. Once i had landed on the pavement, another vehicle came along proceeding at around 45 mph. The vehicle proceeded to hit the hood of my vehicle. The driver hit my hood directly with the front end of his vehicle. During the whole incident, i had my seatbelt on. Also it was indicated that my air bags were one and functioning correctly. The vehicle itself was totaled and i sustained whiplash, a slight concussion, severe bruises and cuts, and also received a chipped tooth from hitting the steering wheel with my face.

Railroad hyrail vehicle equipped, after market, with hyrail wheel assemblies which allow the vehicle to operate on railroad tracks. Once hyrail (flanged) wheels are retracted, the vehicle is operated over the highways and public roads like any other vehicle. On 7/23/2010, at 20th st. And us 34 in warren county, il., railroad employee was operating a hyrail-equipped vehicle on public roadway when it was struck from behind at an unknown speed while stopped in traffic to make a left hand turn.striking vehicle was towing a trailer and both vehicles left the roadway and struck a fence.airbags in the hyrail-equipped vehicle did not deploy. A police report was made.concern is that the installation of hyrail wheel assemblies might be impacting the airbag sensor. The hyrail wheel assemblies extend approx. One foot of steel framework ahead of the front and rear bumpers. The placement of these assemblies might inadvertently be affecting airbag deployment in crashes on the railroad track and on public roads.

My dash has cracks near the airbag and i have a concern with safety during a collision or airbag deployment from sharp plastic exposed due to the cracks in the dash cutting the airbag or shards of plastic becoming projectiles potentially causing injury to occupants.
My truck stayed parked for 10 days while on vacation. It was running fine when i parked it. Upon returning from vacation i tried to start it and nothing! it wont even try to turn over. After having a private mechanic look at it he said the fuse block under the hood has a short in it. How can it short out just sitting there? this could be a fire hazard & a safety issue!! i have 2 small children & if i were driving & it caught on fire we all could be injured!!!!!! this should open gm's eyes to have a recall on this vehicle.
To date i only have 60kmi. On my 2008 silverado. Its immaculetly maintained. So far both airbag sensors have gone bad and i've lost cruise controll. Ive also lost the driver side speaker functionality.

Vehicle was stopped, waiting to enter road, dashboard lit up like a christmas tree and smoke started pouring from under the hood. Turned vehicle off, called a tow truck and it was taken to our mechanic. The sealed internal fuse box and wiring harness conections had caught fire and burned, damaging the main fuse panel that costs $450 to replace and the main wiring harness connected to the fuse box. I have read several complaints filed by other silverado owners for the same reason but their vehicles completely burned to the ground. How many people have to injured or killed by this before there is a recall? please help!

All four doors would not lock or unlock by pressing the lock button on either front doors or by using the remote when stopped.it scares me as a parent of a seven year old that the doors may not lock when needed and my child could accidentally open the door when driving anywhere at any speed.for the safety of my family and friends this really concerns me because if we were in an accident what if the doors couldn't unlock by button or manually or lock to keep passengers in while driving.in my opinion this is a safety hazard that really needs to be investigated by gm and an action taken into affect to correct this faulty issue or parts.

I have bought vehicles since i was 17 years old. I have never had the whole left side electronics go bad like in my 2008 silverado, ltz. The windows would not go up or down. Either side. My mirrors would not come in. Extended cab windows would not work . I replaced left door electronics panel, chev. Dealer mechanic tried to syncronize with vehicle computer ($130.00) found broken wires in harness. Mechanic tried to fix the problem and shut drivers door. Opened door and the wires had broken again plus it shorted out a fuse panel.a new harness and panel was ordered. A week later the new items were installed ( $606.89). The mechanic then said that the left rear door was shorting out and it needed a new harness ($500.99). I waited another week and this harness was installed on 2-13-15.if i had been in a wreck and the doors could not be opened and i could not get my windows down i could have burnt up or the first responders would have had to cut me out of my truck.this happened to me in the middle of the nightwith my wholeleft side electronics going dead.a friend of mine also bought a 2008 chevrolet suburban and has also had to replace the left side electronics in his drivers door. Power door locks on my 2008 chevy silverado crew cab quit working on both drivers side doors.i only have 25,000 miles on the truck and have not returned it back to the dealer yet as the problem just started this weekend.i have checked the web and of course this is a very common occurance that chevy has tended to sweep under the rug and had not made a recall for this.this is a major inconvience and is a major safety hazard as well.i have my fingers crossed that the dealer will fix this problem but i have my doubts.my 3 year bumper to bumper warranty ran out in august.i purchased a new truck to avoid these types of aggravations and now regreting that decision.
The cab to operator communication started slowly diminishing.eventually all audible beeps, dings and music on the left side of the cab were shutoff.the speed control cruise was not activation, but the button would light up.currently the left side of the truck, in the cab, is out of power.i am concerned, does this affect the air bag system too?the truck does a self diagnostics monthly and no issues were noted, but they were obvious issues that a diagnostic should have picked up a notable change.the lighting issue i experienced were with each taillight. I would randomly blow tail light bulbs.a closer look showed corrosion and obvious shorting, but no fuse was faulted.bulb was burned at the connectors.further review it was noticed that each tail light had water in the bottom. Traveling caused the water to short out and damage the bulb, leaving me with no rear lighting randomly.i have since drilled holes in the bottom of each tail light as there is not way to remove the moisture.i have also inspected the bulb seals and find they are firmly pressing on to the sealing surfaces, which are clean and free from road dust and grime...plus they are hidden inside the body of the truck.in summary, i would like to receive some level of detail regarding the electrical issue, focusing on how it can be repaired. Regarding the lighting, this is concerning and should be a consideration for risk assessment during design.
Time on radio stopped working also speakers and chimes for turn signal and keys in the ignition stopped working they work every once in awhile i noticed when the keys in the ignition are turned just right sometimes everything will work but most of the time it does not.
I have had the 4th door lock fail again and outside of warranty.this should be a recall from gm and they refuse to fix a known issue.
Went to get out of the car and the door wouldn't open or the window wouldn't roll down...........seems very unsafe............in case of a fire or accident i couldn't unlock the door for my passenger or roll down the window.

All 4 lock actuators failed and with that, the body control module cannot properly work the security system.the power locks inside the vehicle work intermittently and seem to randomly unlock one of my doors.the automatic door lock when you put the car in gear does not work.this causes multiple safety risks.1) failure of auto lock could result in carjacking and passenger ejection during a wreck 2) failure of security system to arm and alarm could lead to theft 3) intermittent and random unlocking of one door when unexpected results an unsecured vehicle despite deliberate owner effort and expectation of security and can result in theft and ejection4) since only the driver door has a key lock mechanism, i have to crawl through the cab to unlock back doors resulting in body strain and injury.do this*** google "2008 chevy silverado lock actuator failure.see how many thousands of vehicles this is happening to.i have never had one actuator fail, and in this vehicle it has been all 4 and that is happening to thousands.the cost is $1000 to repair and there is a "national back order" so they have to be aware of the problem.please help us little guys and make this right.
Intermittently, and now more frequent 1, 2 or all gauges go haywire, reading other than normal, and digital readout goes out. Truck still works ok, but no accurate reading on gauges.
The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet silverado.while depressing the brake pedal, the brake light illuminated.the brake light would go out if the contact slightly removed his foot from the brake pedal.the manufacturer and dealer both stated that this was a normal occurrence when the brake pedal is slightly released.the dealer and manufacturer could not assist with the repairs.there were no recalls available.the vin was unknown.the failure mileage was 3,000 and current mileage was less than 7,000. Updated 07/01/09while towing a trailer, the vehicle would lurch forward when braking. The electric trailer brakes seemed to function off of the vehicle brake lights, which causes the trailer brakes to disengage even while applying brake pressure. The vehicles brake lights also flicker on and off while braking. Updated 07/02/09.

Within two months of purchasing my brand new silverado, i noticed this issue and it has persisted.my vehicle now has 73,000 miles on it, and it happens even more frequently. I've brough this problem up to chevy on multiple occasions, and they have always told me to bring the vehicle when it's doing this, but within 30 minutes of operating the vehicle, the warning lights go off.many times when i start my vehicle, the "stabilitrack", and "anti-lock brake system" warning lights come on.there's normally a click/thud when i start the vehicle, immediately followed by the warning lights coming on.when it does this, a lot of times the vehicle won't even shift into gear for about five minutes.it's my belief that when these lights are on, these items aren't working.i've driven up to 45 minutes with both lights being on. They will usually stay on until i've operated the vehicle for at least 30 minutes, and then turn the vehicle off.after i've done so, and then restarted the vehicle, the lights will usually go off.these are both very impotant safety features.i've gone on numerous gm threads and found that hundreds of silverado owners from 2007 up until today continue to have the issue and nobody ever does anything about it.the owners who did get gm to actually turn a wrench in efforts to fix the problem all say it ultimately returned.the vehicle not going into gear is something that recently started happening with the problem. If i start the truck and the warning lights aren't on, the vehicle operates fine, however, if i start the vehicle and the warning lights are on, it usually takes several minutes to get the vehicle in gear.
My gauges are going haywire...while i'm riding on the road...my truck dont start sometimes and also my alarm dont work...
2008 chevrolet silverado having electrical problems. Door locks cycling, a/c not working intermittent, alt gauge fluctuating, fuel gauge fluctuating, engine stall, abs & tcs lights blinking. I reported the problem to my dealer and the kept it for a week. They ended up replacing the 175 amp megafuse and battery cables. I got back and have driven it for a week and everything seems to be working properly except the alt gauge. I intend on calling them back next week so i can drive it a little longer to see if any of the other issues persist.
I am disappointed with gm for first time ever. I had a 01 that i got 350,000 miles on it and it had all original parts. Then i buy a 08 and i have oil leaks four wheel drive light on my engine runs rough and my air bag light is on. I don't get it and trust me i just saw a website with the same complaints about what i have when is gm going to say oh [xxx] we have issues with this year maybe we should do something about it . If nothing comes about this i will be going ford and tell gm to pack sand i have driven gm my whole life and would like to stay but i have owned this truck for only a year and hoping gmc opens there eyes.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I bought this vehicle used with about 66,000 miles on the odometer. Shortly thereafter, the check engine light came on, and i found an evaporative emissions code stored. I cleared the code and went about my business. Not long after, i went to fill the truck with fuel and gasoline spilled out from the top of the gas tank without coming up the filling neck. When i got around to taking the tank off the trunk to look for the cause of the issue, i found that the top plate of the fuel sending unit had rusted through and left an approximate 1" x 1/2" hole where fuel and vapor was able to escape. As far as i know, this was the original sending unit for the vehicle. I am replacing the unit with a delphi sending unit with a plastic top; hoping that this will prevent future leaks of this nature.
1 to 2 months after purchase the oil was completely out on my truck. They have attempted to fix the oil consumption is 3 to 4 times. Now they are wanting to replace the piston that they have already ordered not knowing what kind of damage has been done.
The driver side exhaust manifold bolts broke off causing an exhaust leak. This is a serious safety issue causing exhaust gas to enter the cabin!exhaust bolts should not break off.
The front speakers and one of the extended cab doors speakers do not work.can not hear the warning chime. Sometimes when the truck has been driven for awhile the speakers in the driver's side starts to work. As of 07/11/14 the passenger side door speakers doesn't work unless the truck has been driven for awhile.. I've contacted gm several times on this issue and get the same response, they can not help me without paying them a fee.... I tell them what is happening andthey don't care. I sent an email to them on 07/12/14 and haven't heard from them yet. I afraid that the truck is going catch on fire or shut off while i'm driving or when my wife is driving with my kids in the truck.
Driving at night at 55 mph, the truck intermittently lost power but did not completely quit; the low beam headlights blew and went off.
If i am going down the road and press my brake pedal and then let up a little bit so that i don't have as much pressure on the brakes the brake lights go out. They go out before i am off of my brakes. So if i am coasting down a hill and apply my brakes and then realize that i have applied too much pressure and i have to let out a little bit to calibrate the pressure correctly my brake lights do not stay on, they go out before the pedal is completely released. I want my brake lights to stay on until i let off my brakes completely, it shouldn't matter how much pressure i have on my brakes, if my brakes are on so should my lights. The reason i am concerned with this is because i had someone nearly run into the back of my car. Also if i am sitting at a redlight and ease up on the brake pedal but still at a full stop, the brake lights go out while i am sitting there, i have to press my brake pedal all the way down to get the brake lights to come on and stay one, if i have any pressure on the pedal the lights should stay on. This has scared me plenty of times at night because i will be stopped and the person behind me has to slam on their brakes to keep from hitting me. I believe this is a design flaw in the brake system with my 08 silverado. I have been to the dealer to get this fixed as a warranty issue but they say "failure to replicate problem." so that is why i am filling out the complaint.

There was a very strong gasoline smell with the vehicle running. While looking for the source, i noticed fuel spraying out under the passenger side of the vehicle. The dealership determined that it was the high pressure fuel line that was leaking. I do not know if this is a deign flaw, a defect in the part or poor workmanship, but it could have had serious consequences if the fuel had ignited, which was possible with the pressure and volume of the leak. It was replaced without charge due to it being a "safety factor".the truck is not driven in extreme conditions. I had not run over anything, and cannot think of any reason for the fuel line to rupture.

My rear passenger door does not lock/unlock.huge safety hazard.the door can be opened while the vehicle is traveling 70 mph.this is also a security issue.i can lock the vehicle with the key fob only to learn that the rear door will not lock.if i lock it manually, then it will not open with the key fob.this is a huge inconvenience, i have to unlock it manually.the dealer stated that this is a very common problem.internet research shows that this has happened to thousands of people.this should be a recall!!!

Design failure of transmission cooling lines.set of three cooling lines failing at crimped joint between solid line and flexible line.this seems to be a common failure due to design, low to medium pressure lines being used in a high pressure system.failure during operation could result in sudden loss of power or engine braking which may result in vehicle control difficulties especially on slippery roads.this is a high failure rate item according to the service tech/advisor.

While towing a 5th wheel trailer in 98 degree heat, the vehicle went into reduced power mode. The vehicle turbo was diagnosed as the problems with the variable vanes locking in position. I believe this is a known condition with theduramax lmm engine. On the open highway pulling a trailer this creates a hazard for the driver and other traffic as the sudden loss of speed is unexpected. Warranty was denied although there is a technical service bulletin regarding similar symptoms.

Both (upper and lower) transmission cooler lines leaking.dealer advised both lines needed replacement at cost of $988.88, and not covered by the power train warranty.appears to be leaking from crimp area on both lines.independent transmission shop advised stock (gm) cooler lines cannot handle the pressure of the allison transmission.recommended replacement with aftermarket braided lines.
Automatic transmission lines 2008 chevy silverado with allison transmission. Factory transmission lines leak and must be replaced. When the weather turns cold, the lines/crimps holding the rubber hose to the pipes fail and automatic transmission fluid is lost, sometimes in catastrophic manner, causing the vehicle to loose propulsion. Reports of failure are extremely common, and it is not unusual, that the lines may have been replaced 3 times within the 1st 50,000 miles. Gm has issued 'new, updated' parts, but they are no better than the original parts. The new part numbers are 20759971, 20759972, 20759973. Wile repair is covered on the 36k bumper to bumper warranty, there is no coverage on the 100k warranty. Gm should replace the lines free of charge for the 1st 100k miles with a hose that will not fail. Consumers can take the original gm line to a hydraulic shop, have the rubber portion of the lines replaced with standard hydraulic hose suitable for atf fluid and there are no further failures. If consumers can fix the lines, perhaps gm can find a solution.

I have a 2008 chevrolet silverado crew cab that makes clanking sound when the transmission shifts into third gear. I went to the local dealership and was told that this is "normal for this truck". The truck has less than 16,000 miles on it. The mechanic told me that he was "surprised that it had not started making this noise sooner". It has become progressively louder and can be heard with the windows down. Coincidentally, this is the same sound the truck started makinga few months ago when i would take off at a stoplight/stop sign. I could feel a pause and then it would clank and start to move. Again this can be heard with the windows down. I went to the dealership at that time and was told "this is normal operation". Now the truck clankswhen taking off from a stop and when it shifts into third gear.
The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet silverado. While idling at a stop sign he heard a thumping sound from under the vehicle. Simultaneously the vehicle began to jerk forward. The vehicle was taken to the dealership and he was informed that the transmission needed to be lubricated.the current and failure mileages were 20000.

Cruise control worked intermittently. Had to replace the brake switch on the brake pedal. This switch does not activate on "light" brake pedal pressure. It is designed to work on firm brake pedal pressure, which can be hazardous when using electric trailer brakes.
Though my anti-lock brakes may be working just as they were designed, they seem to increase stopping distance significantly over what would be attained with just the wheels locking up and sliding or skidding.on dry pavement, stopping power of this truck is fantastic up to the point when the anti-lock brakes activate, then its as if the brakes almost completely release the wheel then reactivate the brake to the point it starts to skid then releases it completely and so on and so on. This action of course happens very quickly, but seems completely different than any other anti lock vehiclei've ever owned. Because of this cycle of completely releasing the brakes then hitting them so hard they instantly lock up then releasing them again, the stopping distance seems greatly exaggerated. On a reduced traction situation such as snow, ice, or dirt, its as if the brakesdon't work at all.as i stated in the opening statement, this truck has wonderful brakes up to and until the point of the anti-lock brakes, so when this occurs it is quite shocking. As for my braking technique, i've been told and have followed the advice that once that anti-lock brakes activate, you keep firm steady pressure on the brake pedal. I've taken advantage of the recent ice and snow in our area to test and confirm that i am using propertechnique in using the brakes and i'm more convinced that this system is causing more problems than it solves.i would rather have standard brakes than this. I believe it would be in the public interest if this system were checked by someone with the ability to confirm that these brakes meet the safety standard expected by safety regulators over seeing the automotive industry.i don't believe that taking this vehicle to my local service department is going to solve anything, in that i expect they are going to tell me that they are working fine.

Large cracks in dashboard. I know i'm not the only one! there needs to be a recall!
My dash has cracks near the airbag and i have a concern with safety during a collision or airbag deployment from sharp plastic exposed due to the cracks in the dash cutting the airbag or shards of plastic becoming projectiles potentially causing injury to occupants.
A crack has formed at the top left corner of the airbag area, on the passenger side of the dash.
Front dashboard has a crack in it. Crack on plastic dash just appeared overnight for no reason. It is located almost directly in front of the passenger area. Have checked several other vehicles within the same year model,2- gmc sierra pick ups, 1- avalanche, 2 silverados. Dash makes a rattling sound and is very distracting. All have the same open crack almost exactly at the same spot on dashboard. I know there is a defect.
I was on my way home from work after working a very long day and i fell asleep at the wheel and went off the side of 225. All i remember was waking up in between trees about two feet away from sims bayou. My vehicle was totaled. No air bags deployed.

Engine trouble light appears and service airbag message appears, both. Passenger side windows would not operate. Burning odors appear inside the cabin. The g.m. Dealership located the wiring harness had caught fire and melted part of the carpet on the front drivers side kick plate. $2,400.00 to replace the harness and carpet. What's going to prevent this from happening again?

2008 chevrolet silverado having electrical problems. Door locks cycling, a/c not working intermittent, alt gauge fluctuating, fuel gauge fluctuating, engine stall, abs & tcs lights blinking. I reported the problem to my dealer and the kept it for a week. They ended up replacing the 175 amp megafuse and battery cables. I got back and have driven it for a week and everything seems to be working properly except the alt gauge. I intend on calling them back next week so i can drive it a little longer to see if any of the other issues persist.

Firestone tire p245/70r17 108s m+ sdestination lefor your information while driving the inside lane of i-20 here in alabama august 23, 2014 at a speed of approximately 65 miles an hour when my right front tire blew. Fortunately i was able to maintain control of the vehicle and get off the interstate. The tire blew out just below the thread, outside wall. Hole is approximately the sizes of a twenty five cent piece. I had an experience tire professional look at the tire; he said that the tire was defective because of the way it blew. The other three tires on this vehicle are firestones identical to this one. I am worried about the safety of driving the auto with these tires? the tire is on a 2008 chevy silverado pickup that is driven for pleasure. (not a work truck) less that 10,000 miles a year. All four original tires were replaced with firestones p245/70r17 108s. I would estimate these tires to have less than 20,000 miles on them.
I have a 2008 silverado 2500hd with 48,000 miles on it and just noticed two cracks have formed above the passenger airbag. Even though the warranty has expired i feel this is a manufacturing defect and should be replaced by chevrolet at no charge. The vehicle has always been stored sun protected except when traveling. At that time a dash screen is used for sun protection. I contacted the chevrolet customer assistance center immediately and they had me take my vehicle to a chevrolet dealer for examination. I had my vehicle examined at the chevrolet dealership on march 21, 2016. They examined the vehicle, took photos and told me they would get back to me with the decision. They did so later that day but the decision was to replace the dash which would be $1000.00 of which gm would be willing to pick up half, so my out of pocket expense would be $500.00. I refused this offer and told the dealer i would be contacting the chevrolet customer assistance center to dispute me having to pay $500.00 out of pocket expense to correct a manufacturers defect. I contacted the chevrolet customer assistance center immediately via phone and asked that the issue be elevated to the appropriate person. I provided the representative all the information she requested from me and she assured me that she would elevate the issue to the senior manager in my area and they would get back to me within 48 hours with a decision. As of this writing i have not heard back from anyone.
The dashboard is cracked in three different places.one near the steering wheel, the other one is mid dash and the last one is near the passenger airbag.i noticed this first as i was driving down the road and later it happened while the vehicle was stationary.i would hate to know that if the passenger airbag where to go off that chunks of the dashboard might go flying and injure anyone in the vehicle.
The dash is cracked at the left corner of air bag. Afraid of pieces of dash hitting passenger if air bag deploys.
The driver side door will not open it just stopped no notice. The next week the windows in the back seat will go down but not up driver side has to roll up. The passenger side door lock won't work driver has to unlock.
The dash board is cracked around the left corner of the passengers side airbag.
Dash is cracked at left upper corner of air bag.
The dashboard in the vehicle is cracking next to my airbag. If the airbag deploys it is going to send debris flying. The dashboard is extremely weak in these trucks and chevrolet says not their problem. The current crack in my dash is approximately 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch depending on temperature. There is an obvious defect in the dashboards and from what i've read if you pay the big bucks for the fix it will crack again eventually. It would be one thing if it was cracked in a place other than next to the airbag. I hope chevrolet is forced to take action before an airbag deploys and pieces of dash go flying through the cabin of the truck.

The key was removed from the ignition in order to stop the vehicle. A police report was filed and no injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 42,000.

The consumer attempted to apply the brake, butsoon the brake pedal went all the way to the floor and smoke started emanating from under the hood. The consumer was able to steer the vehicle into the emergency lane and turned off the ignition. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, however after a diagnoses, no codes were found to determine the rapid acceleration.
Cruise control worked intermittently. Had to replace the brake switch on the brake pedal. This switch does not activate on "light" brake pedal pressure. It is designed to work on firm brake pedal pressure, which can be hazardous when using electric trailer brakes.
