The air bag light has been constantly on and and i do not know if the drivers side air bag will deploy in a crash.

The contact discovered that the alarm was triggered by the front air bags deploying independently. The contact stated that the failure caused the radio and the interior lights to also fail.the vehicle was no longer operable and was not taken to the dealer for inspection or repairs. My 2006 silverado 2500 hd air bag did not deploy during my accident on july 28, 2010.i tried sending all information in the mail but, you just sent it back to me. Coping that was sent to me from general motors of their explanation of they are not the ones responsible for this because they didn't make this product. Not to mention that onstar didn't come on as they show on their tv ads'.if i had not regain conscience.don't know when they would have found me there where i went off the road just 4 miles from my home. Don't know if anyone would have thought of calling onstar about looking for my truck.if gm vehicles are so safe and lead us to believe how? safe and reliable their vehicles are.then why? they are not standing behind their parts now.the vehicle was total and the only thing that saved me was my seat belt.even doe i was still badly injured from my neck to my tail bone. Gm doesn't care to own up to no kind of responsibility for anything.i'm still afraid to drive my 2010 camaro because it has the same equipmentas the 2006 pickup that i totaled. I drive it whenever i have no choice. When the dodge truck isn't here.every other week when my husband needs it.i've sent you all the pictures and some of the letters thatgm's [xxx] has sent to me but, you didn't even open it all you did was send it back unopened. What's up with this?????????????my name is:[xxx] , my address is:[xxx]; [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet silverado. While driving at 25 mph, another vehicle failed to yield. As a result, the contact crashed into the passenger side of another vehicle and the air bags failed to deploy. The contact sustained hip and pelvic injuries on the right side that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 70,000.
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet silverado.the contact stated that the air bag indicator has remained illuminated for over one year.she found that if the air bag indicator is illuminated, the air bags will not deploy.the dealer has previously repaired the vehicle, but the failure persists.the contact discovered online that there were a couple of consumers with the same issue.the vehicle will be repaired, but the dealer does not know if they will perform the repair.the failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 43,000.
The module on the front bumper has become defected and therefore the air bags will not go off during a collision.
The service airbag light came on. Called dealer told me warranty was over. I thought it is a national warranty on airbags because of the being a safetyhazard for them to work properly. Updated 4/24/2015
My 16 yr old son and 12 yr old son were coming home from school on 11/10/2006, my 16 yr old was driving, he took drivers ed and passed the class with an a+. And when he took his driving part of the test he past with a perfect score the first time. He also raced gokarts, so he knew how to control vehicles and prevent wrecks. When the wreck happened, the truck just went up an embankment, and went throw the air and hit a tree and pealed the roof back like it was a tin can. There was no skid marks, the tire tracks went straight up the bank, like the steering wheel was locked. And not one air bag opened. They were less than a 1/4 of a mile from home. I was at the bus stop waiting on my daughter, i heard the wreck and the alarm from the truck was going off. I went to the site and the alarm was still going off, and the steering wheel was locked. My 12yr old died on site, my 16 yr old died 4 days later. I have known something caused the wreck, but not sure what until now. Now i know with all my heart the switch locked the steering and also made the air bags not work.
My air bag light came on for no reason and it is not on the recall list. Is there another list for recalls. I have never had a accident or my air bag has never been deployed. Can you tell me if this will be fix though the recall. I'm concerned with driving it without no air bags.
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated while traveling at 40 mph when an 18-wheeler drove in front of the contact suddenly. The contact did not have enough time to stop the vehicle before crashing into the truck. The air bags did not deploy. The contact sustained minor bruising. The vehicle was towed to a local repair facility where the contact was awaiting repairs. The police advised that the air bags should have deployed upon impact. The failure mileage and current mileages were 88,508.
First the radio does turn off sometimewhen opening the door . Then i have to replace the heater fan resister every three to four months because it burns outwhile i drive i can,t use defrosteror any temp. Optionc.
When using a/c drivers side of cab will blow heat while passenger side blows cold. This is a continuous problem that started while still in warranty.
Heater fan would not work some times. Smell electrical burning. Replaced a melted connector & resistor. Parts not available.
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet silverado 2500. The contact stated that after turning the air conditioner off, the fan continued to operate. The contact then shut the engine off by removing the key from the ignition and the fan continued to operate. The contact noticed a burning electrical odor coming from the vents. The contact removed the master fuse and the fan turned off. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 59,000.
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet silverado. While the vehicle was coming to a stop, the anti-brake system engaged independently and caused the brakes to fail. The failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 9,000.
Was driving my 2006 chevrolet silverado 2500hd and turned on the air conditioner.i began to smell an odor similar to trash burning. I turned off the ac and turned on just the air fan at which time the truck cab filled with smoke.i was able to pull off the side of the road and contacted the fire department.the fan continued to fill the cab with smoke even though the ignition was off and the keys were removed.the incident did not stop until the fd disconnected the batteries from the truck.the vehicle was towed to a chevrolet dealer and the problem was diagnosed as a short in air conditioner blower wiring harness which resulted in damage to the relay, they checked with the manufacturer to authorize repair under an extended warranty and told me it is not covered as it is an electrical malfunction.
Started the vehicle fasten seat belt exited the carport started to leave my yard had to stop a go back in house turned the vehicle off removed the key went back in the house came back got in the vehicle fasten seat belt started the vehicle put it in drive and the service air bag light flashed several time we out and came back and will not go back out it will flash several time go out and come back on and stay.
Loss of blower fan due to burnt/melted wiring harness & blower motor resister burning hot enough to cause a fire. Loss fan motor to a/c & heat. On line there are thousands of the same complaint. What is gm waiting for people to die before they do something about this.
2006 chevrolet silverado right front tire began to shake, smoke, and caught fire on the westbound of the ohio turnpike.ohio traffic crash report # 10-0769-91
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet silverado.the contact stated that the air conditioning and heating failed, in addition to other electrical components.she noticed that the resistor connector and wiring harness were melted.the vehicle has not been repaired.the manufacturer was unable to assist.the failure mileage was 45,000 and current mileage was 50,017.
At approximately 2:30 am, november 10th, my husband had just gotten back from the store, and had turned the truck off.the keys were not in the ignition at the time.he was sitting in the truck for about 10 minutes, when he noticed smoke coming from the dashboard.he opened the hood, noticed flames, and tried to put it out with a fire extinguisher.we called the fire department, but by the time they got to the house, the entire cab of the truck was engulfed in flames.the heat was so intense it melted the siding off my house.the truck was used for his business, and he had two chainsaws in the back that were destroyed.there is absolutely nothing left.
Service brakelines rotted and caused a complete loss of service brakes - while driving and close to home - used emergency brakes and low gear to get to home. Spoke to friend at chevy dealer. They are having problems with this truck series due to corrosion and premature rusting.truck is currently in garage due to failure (corrosion) of transmission cooling lines.current mileage 15,211.lost both anti-lock brake modules and alternatorand temperature sensors.
In my 2006 chevrolet silverado the speedometer turns off and on and gets stuck. I know for a fact that there are 4 other vehicles in our family that do the same thing. You will just be driving down the road and it either turns completely off or it goes up to 120mph or gets stuck were you were in speed. We have received two tickets because of this i would like to know what can be done about it? it is obviously a default if it is happening in all of our vehicles.
Dt: the contact stated the instrument cluster did not work at all. The manufacturer was contacted, and advised thecontactto bring the vehicle to a gm dealership for service.the cause of the problem was undetermined.
Noticed a peculiar exhaust note somewhat like a tick that was reminescent of an exhaust leak. Took vehicle to local muffler exhaust shop and they inform me it is a manifold exhaust leak due to broken bolt(s) on the driver side. Was able to look for myself and i see one bolt head missing in the very back near the firewall.
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 10 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The failure occurred on two occasions. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.
There has been a long time problem of broken exhaust manifold bolts on 1999 to 2007 chevy silverado and gmc sierra pickups. This problem is on 80to 90 percent of the trucks with in them years this is millions of vehicles on the road. These vehiclesshould be recalled by general motors due to epa laws and emission standards not being able to be passed when these bolts break.
I bought a 2006 chevrolet silverado 1500 crew cab used from bill byrd kia in panama city florida on 03/02/2009 and was told the vehicle would be covered under any remaining factory warranty, was led to believe it was a 5 year/100,000 drive train warranty. Unfortunately,.i did not do my homework on that statement. The truck had36,581 miles at time of purchase. I have driven the truck for personal use only and took very good care and had regular oil changes performed. I am now facing a motor rebuild. The engine started making some knocking/crunching sounds from the low end and i'm told the camshaft, bearings, oil pump, seals, gaskets, etc have to be replaced at an estimated cost of $3,500. I have called the chevrolet consumer number i found for their corp office in detroit and am told by chevrolet that this particular truck only had a 3 yr/36,000 mile warranty.so i am left paying these repairs out of pocket on a truck less than 5 years old with less than 60,000 miles. I certainly feel ripped off after financing the truck for a period of 5 years. I have no choice except to pay for the repairs since it would have no trade in value in the condition it is in.
Sudden failure of heater fan. No blower speeds. Melted wiring under dash. Service bulletin issued by chevy but no recall ? this is a fire waiting to happen.
2006 chevrolet silverado right front tire began to shake, smoke, and caught fire on the westbound of the ohio turnpike.ohio traffic crash report # 10-0769-91
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that the heater motor operated constantly, even while the vehicle was shut off, causing the vehicle to lose power. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified, but denied any assistance with repairs. The vehicle was repaired. The failure and current mileages were 116,000.
I own a 2006 chevrolet silverado with the 5.3 engine.i purchased my truck brand new and now have approximately 115,000 miles on it.recently, i noticed a knocking sound coming from the engine and brought it to a gm dealership thinking it was a pulley or other minor repair.instead, i was informed it was a bad cam rocker arm roller bearing.they proceeded to repair the issue and my total bill came to $3,242.84.i did some research on my own and found that gm has been aware that this part is defective on 2005 through 2007 5.3 engines, however, this part has never been recalled.with the amount of miles i have on my truck (over 100,000), it is no longer under warranty.in my research, i learned that this part is either an engineering defect or a supplied part that gm did not adequately contain before shipping the bad product to their customers.after numerous conversations with gm, they informed me that their engines basically do not last over 115,000.i have owned chevrolets for over 36 years and have not come across any engine issues which is why i continued to buy them.even after confronting gm with my findings, they are not willing to reimburse me nor are they willing to recall the defective part.
The vehicle was returned to the dealer, bill hood automotive, for a total of 11 times since it was purchased in may 2006.between may 29, 2006 and december 2006, there were several visits for various problems.starting in december 2006, there were problems with the vehicle running hot.parts were replaced on each visit thereafter.on january 20, 2007, the engine caught on fire. The consumer wants to check on the status of the complaint.
Dt*:the contact stated the vehicle had a defect in the exhaust pipe. The dealership made the repairs according to the general motors bulletin. After the repairs, the brackets were observed extended 3.5 to 4 inches from the vehicles frame.this repair created a safety problem because the bracket could easily collide with road bumps. When the manufacturer and dealership were contacted both offered to return the exhaust pipe to its original status, which the contact considered unacceptable.
I see you recalling bmw cars for lights failing! why don't you recall gm trucks and suv's for failing running lights?from their introduction they have been advertised as a safety feature!i would guess 97% of all gm trucks and suv's have one or both of the lights not working! an obvious design flaw!! my 2006 silverado has had the passenger side light replaced 4 times. If this is not a safety issue, even though advertised as such, it cost owners a big sum of money to keep repairing thembecause of gm'sobvious faulty design!!why does gm get a pass but bmw does no? thanks
Left turn signal does not work all the bulbs and fuses have been checked and has no problem. The trouble appears to be in the electrical connection. It is dangerous to drive due to making unsafe left turns. The passenger side door interior light stays on when all others go off. Has been reported to 2 dealers and they have done nothing.
2006 chevy silverado with faulty brake lights. Consumer stated that the brake lights have failed four times in ten months. This failure almost got the consumer in a serious accident.the consumer discovered the bulbs were not burning out, but the problem was due to arcing caused by poorly designed socket contacts.the consumer stated gm needs to redesign the socket to provide line contact at the socket/bulb electrical interface. The present design provides contact only.
1. New style headlights on new chevy and gmc pickups are fine at a distance, but are blinding as they approach closer from the rear.2. Newer vehicles equipped with "fog" lights are a problem. They are typically used all the time and frequently mis-aligned. They should be require to default to the "off" position when the engine is turned off. This would probably eliminate 95% of the usage and therefore, problems.3. The new led tail lights, particularly on large trucks are too bright. While they may be effective, you cannot tell if the brakes are applied or not.4. New high intensity discharge lights on police cars are a problem. I understand they have day/night brightness settings. Police do not use the night setting. When approaching one (or more) stopped vehicles at night, the lights are so bright that you cannot see the road beyond the police car, causing a dangerous situation.
Dt*: the contact stated there was a shadow 2 and 1/2 foot wide on both sides of the vehicle when the high beams were illuminated.the dealership was informed.updated 9/5/2006 -
Brake lines had holes in them caused by corrosion, fuel line also.noticed problem before anything serious happened.cost over 1000.00 to replace brake and fuel lines.
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that while attempting to come to a complete stop, the brakes failed to stop the vehicle and the emergency brake had to be engaged. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that all of the brake lines and fuel lines needed to be repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 21,000.
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet silverado. While driving approximately 15 mph, the brake pedal extended to the floor without warning and it became difficult to stop the vehicle. The dealer stated that the brake lines were rusted and leaking. The fuel lines were also rusted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 36,900.
Chevrolet silverado 2500 hd (2006) was purchased new, from gengras chevrolet-585 connecticut blvd.-east hartford, ct. 06108- telephone # 860-528-2575. Brake line ruptured due to corrosion, fortunately, vehicle was being operated at a slow speed (25) mph.upon inspection of under the vehicle, i was appalled at the condition of brake lines, fittings, brackets andrelated components. The rust on the underside including the frame was such that it could be flaked offin 1/16" thick chunks. This truck has only 9028 miles, what kind of auto industry do we have !!!!! ?i was made aware of this corrosion problem (that chevrolet is aware of) by a local auto mechanic that thiscorrosion problem was in primarily (2004-2005-2006) silverados. The materials gm is using to causethese problems is a disgusting sample of our manufacturing system.this vehicle was parked outdoors (on a asphalt driveway).the repairs for this situation are in line with the poor quality materials that were used, i was informed thatthe body of the truck bed had to be removed (lifted-off) to access brake lines and get this, the fuel line is also in the same location, might be suspect to corrosion.the cost of these repairs is off the charts.(who is responsible for these design flaws).as an american, who advocates buying domestic vehicles, i wonder who is watching what is going on.i hope someone of authority reads this and acts on it, before it is to late for all of us.remember, this vehicle has (9028) miles on it, and experiencing these problems. Yes, that is correct (9028) miles !!!!!!!!!!
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet silverado. While driving approximately 15 mph, the brake pedal sank to the floorboard without warning and the vehicle failed to stop. The dealer stated that the brake lines were rusted and contained leaks. Also, the technician diagnosed that the fuel lines were rusted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 36,900.updated 3/31/15updated 9/7/2017
Every brake gas and cooling line rusted. I have looked at other vehicles of same year and miles different makes. No where as rusted as my 06 silverado.
Brake lines rusted completely through and blew out while braking and lost all pressure. Fuel lines are severely rusted.
My truck at speeds around 35mph while letting off the accelerator it would jump out of gear. So then, in 2012, i had the transfer case actuator motor replaced and it fixed the problem. Then just yesterday (oct. 31, 2014) i had cruise control set at 70mph and when it would coast or try to slow itself down to maintain its speed, i would here a clunking noise and it would jerk. When i let off the cruise control and would let it roll to a stop it would pop out of gear! i made it back to town and even at slower speeds it would jump out of gear to the point where i had to put it in 4wd high to be able to move. I spoke with a mechanic at the local dealership and he said they have a lot of problems with them like mine which is why i think there needs to be some attention brought to them.
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that he the gear shifter became inoperable. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was found that the clutch assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000.
We purchased a chevysilverado pickup in 2006.my husband has babied this truck, never pulled anything heavy and has rarely had it in 4 wheel drive.in december 2009 the transmission started acting up, the truck at this time had 20,400 m/l miles on it and not much more at this time, yes twenty thousand four hundred. The warranty expired as it was 3 years or 36,000 miles. The dealership bill roberts cheverolet that we purchased this truck was in bolivar mo 60 miles from us, the warranty was out so we hired a local mechanic to do the job for us.he is a certified mechanic and has done warranty work for a ford dealership in appleton city mo and other dealerships in the area.we knew that if we took it to the dealership it would cost us more than having it done locally and my husband did not want to haul it60 miles or any miles to be repaired knowing that we had no warranty and no trailer to haul it on..i felt like this should not have happened with the low miles on the truck and called the dealership. I spoke to the parts department who informed me that since we took it somewhere else other than them that we could not be helped but had we brought it to them they could have helped out with it due to the low miles, even though the warranty was up.now a warranty is a warranty and is black and white, apparently there is also gray, which we as consumers are not aware of. So how were we to know to take it to them under the circumstances.how were we to know that there were gray areas in the warranty as it was not listed as so.we paid almost 1500.00 for this to be repaired out of our own pocket.i work 2 jobs so thankfully we had the money but if i wasn't it would have been a financial burden on us, especially at christmas time.my husband has taken his vehicle to the dealership for recalls to be repaired, they have a log of the miles listed at those times, and has faithfully kept it serviced.
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet silverado. The contact noticed that while the vehicle was parked, transmission fluid was leaking. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership for diagnostic testing where the contact was informed that the transmission hoses were leaking.the fluid and one of the hoses were replaced. The contact stated that transmission continued to leak and the dealer was scheduled to replace all three hoses. The failure mileage was 25,578. The current mileage was approximately 35,790.
Service brakelines rotted and caused a complete loss of service brakes - while driving and close to home - used emergency brakes and low gear to get to home. Spoke to friend at chevy dealer. The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet silverado. While driving at 20 mph, the clutch assembly failed and could not shift into gear. The failure recurred twice. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made awareof the failure. The failure mileage was 126,000.
The information displays 4wd service constantly.in addition, the 4wd selection buttons show the 4wd to be in "n-neutral" or "no-lights displayed" when the truck is in motion and under power, and in "4l-4 low" with the truck sputtering erratically, but definitely not in 4l.all without being selected.so far i have discovered if i select "auto" the 4wd service light does not display.this issue is recurring and has been "repaired" previously by a dealership.
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet silverado.while driving 25 mph in wet conditions, the vehicle crashed into the front of another vehicle. The seat belt failed to secure the driver at the time of the crash.the current and failure mileages were 30,000.
Drivers seat heater comes on all the time by it self and on high. You can switch it off and it keeps coming back on. Very distracting at high speeds turning it off all the time. It gets very hot and out of control. Maybe could catch fire?? i have it disconnected now but doing that none of the seat controls work. To work seat you must plug it back in to operate the seats. Checked online and many seat heat switches come on by it self on many gmc cars and trucks.
After reading an article about a paraplegic woman who got severely burned by her friends suburban's heated seats, i find it essential to report that i've always found that my drivers heated seat sometimes get extremely hot. Fortunately, i have been able to turn them off before any injuries. The woman reported not knowing how her heated seat got turned on. If her friends vehicle is like mine, an many others who have complained on multiple open forum websites, the heated seats in many of chevrolet's trucks and suvs are known to turn ontheir own. I have had to unplug my seats due to the heater turning on erratically and cycling through the 3 heat levels on their own. It has been reported on multiple websites that people have complained to gm about this issue and people whose vehicle were not covered under warranty have been forced to purchase a very expensive door switch assembly. Although not a safety issue to me, i can see how this erratic behavior of the heated seats and the potential for extremely high temperatures could be a danger to somebody without all the sensations in their lower half. I hope that this report will help with any statistical analysis of heated seat problems the nhtsa accomplishes. And i hope the issue is resolved by gm.
Dt*:the contact stated the driver's side door made a rattling noise and shook while driving various speeds on bumpy road conditions.also, the driver's seat made a squeaking noise.the dealer inspected the vehicle, but could not determine the problem.
From: david arthurcomments:my employer issued me a 2006 chevy silverado pickup truck that i feel isa hazard to drive. The design of the cab is such that there is only a1.5 x 1.5 ft box that one can see out of. The rear view mirror is so big and mounted so low that it blocks most of the vision to the right front of the vehicle and the top of the cab inhibits the ability to see stop lights when stopped at a stop bar, to see the light one must stop a vehicle length short of the light. Stopping short to see the light isn't a big issue for the driver of the truck, its the idiot with road rage behind that's the problem..i have asked the chevy customer care center to address these issues as well as other issues with the suitability of this truck for persons taller than 5 ft but i think they have just written off the complaint. I would recommend that this vehicle be recalled do to the severely limited vision of the driver. From nhtsa web site.
I was driving the truck away from my home , when i steped on the brake pedal it went to the floor. I got the truck stopped with the parking brake. When i inspected the brake lines they were all extremely rusty and one had burst. Fluid leaked out and there was no pedal at all. The brakes were gone with no warning.
I was driving my truck at slow speed to a stop sign when the peddle went to the floor i was barely able to stopalmost hit the car in front of me got out and saw brake fluid flowing to the ground . The rear brake line rusted out where it splits to the rear axle this should never happen this truck has low miles upon further examination all the metal brake lines have some sort off corrosion . And need to be replacethis is a serious safety issue these parts were made with inferior metal . Did some research and this seems like a very common problem with these trucks.
Brake pedal went to the floor with no braking available.this was just after a 300 + mile trip hauling a horse trailer and two horses.service investigation revealed ruptured hydraulic brake lines.all brake lines are severely corroded and all must be replaced. Worst portion is just under the drivers seat area where three lines run together.called dealer and gm, it appears to be a common problem since gm now offers a discounted brake line kit. May posts on chevy forums reveal the exact problem.something should be done as this appears to be a bad design. Fortunate that this did not happen while on the turnpike.
While driving i went to stop at intersection and the brake pedal went to the floor, and i used parking brake to stop.i got out and there was brake fluid all over,i carefully drove home ,1/2 mile and checked out truck and the brake lines were all rusted and leaking.i tried to fix with new parts but after fixing it would leak in another spot. I have to replace all brake lines to be safe.i think that gm should have to have a recall on these brake lines.thanks
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet silverado. While driving at approximately 50 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and failed to respond without warning. After the brakes were applied continuously, the speed reduced to 10 mph. The vehicle came to a complete stop when the emergency brake was applied. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 103,000.
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the brake pedal was depressed and failed to respond without warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The technician diagnosed that the right and left wheel hub assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 45,000. The vin was unavailable.
On approx. 28april 2013 after a 200 mile trip i was parking my truck when the brake line broke. Ithen used the emergency brake to stop the truck. At this time i made the necessary repairs to get us back home.once there i responded to len stolercheveroletin westminster md. Where i purchased the vehicle. I asked themif they couldbleed the brakes, because i did not think i got all the air outoflines. At this time i was waiting in the waiting room when a service advisor came in and ask me to go into the shop because they wanted to show me something. When i arrived at my truck (which was on the lift) they stated the entire brake lines were so corroded that they needed to be replaced at a price of $1610.80.i stated that the so call metal used had to be defected to allow the whole system of lines to rust to this point in only seven years. She then replied that it was not cause by the metal used, it was the new salt that the states uses now. When they replaced the old lines with the new,i ask the service advisor is the metal brake lines being installed , were they using the same kind of metal and she replied, no they are using zink coated lines now. My question did any other trucks like mine havethe same problem and why didthey use a new metal if there was nothing wrong with original metal.
Brake line rusted through.gm knows this is a problem with these trucks, but won't recall.
When i backed out of my driveway , which is on an incline , the brake pedal went to the floor and i just missed backing out into a busy road. I took the truck in for repairs immediately following the incident. The repairs cost nearly $750. They said that most all of the brake lines were rusted and the one on the rear drivers side had a hole rusted through.
I was moving my travel trailer in my driveway, in preparation for a vacation trip. When i stepped on the brake, a rusted brake line failed and the brake pedal went to the floor. I was able to stop the vehicle safely. Further inspection reveals that all the brake lines on the truck are badly rusted and will have to be replaced.
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that while driving, the brakes failed to stop in a timely manner. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 21,000.
Abs engages at slow speeds - evidently there is a known problem with the abs sensors engaging at low speeds.this is a potentially dangerous defect.it is scary when you approach a stop and the brakes release.gm has known about this problem and has issued a service bulletin.there was a recall on previous years but stopped in 06 even though they never fixed the problems.they should reinstate the recall and fix the remaining vehicles. We have not been involved in an accident because of the defective sensors but i consider us fortunate.
As i was backing out of my driveway my brake pedal went to the floor. I stopped just in time to avoid being hit by on coming traffic. Took it to a dealer later that day and was told that the brake lines were rusted through and would cost over $700 to repair.
Vehicle was taken to have 4 new tires installed. As part of this process the vehicle was lifted off the ground and the steering components and suspension system was checked for wear. As this process was taking place one of the mechanics noticed the rusted brake lines and called me over to show how bad the lines were rusted.
My left front wheel hub assembly failed while driving.brake system was compromised.i was able to pull over and stop safely, but brakes did not respond as they should.moreover, there was no indication that the wheel bearing was failing, and i am quite aware of what this sounds like because this will be the fourth time i have replaced the wheel hub assembly on the left side.i have replaced the right hub assembly twice.in all previous times, i heard a slight whirling noise or at worse slight grinding, which would lead me to inspection and replacement before failure.this time it failed without any warning.i believe gm has made a serious design and/or quality error in this truck.this should be investigated because this is a common problem.
I bought my chevy 3500 dually 4x4 to drive when i needed it to haul things or for the 4wd . I told my daughter it was going to snow and make the roads dangerous so i would take her to work and pick her up when she was done everything went well no signs of any problems before and after i had taken her to work so when she called i went to pick her up at work and had to wait a little while for her to finish up after i had gotten to her work then i drove her home and just after getting off the interstate we pulled into the driveway and i pulled up to the house and almost went through my garage door when my brake pedal went to the floor at about 10-15 mph with absolutly no warning what so ever i would have never used the truck if i had remotely thought something was wrong with the brakes i drive semi trucks for a living and always check things around my vehicles by second nature since i am responsible for the safe operation of the vehicles i drive. I had my truck towed to the dealer where i purchased it new and told them i had contacted gm about the problem and that i told them i expected it to be repaired free of charge and gm response was that they wanted the dealer to evaluate it and the evaluation would be free of charge they did and they found the brake lines rusted in half and also busted at the rubber hose connections so gm said that they would cover 30% of the repair of the brake linesin which they did but it still cost me $1800 . Gm insisted that my brake lines rusted in half because my truck sits a lot i told them i have a 1990 mazda i bought new that sits beside it that i have never had any safety problems out of . Gm also has changed the brake lines to a plastic coated line . I had also told them that it was a poor design where the water ran off the windshield and down onto the brake lines right where they rusted and broke gm needs to stand behind its product.
Returning home, i approached a 4-way stop at about 40 mph.attempted to stop, only limited brakes. Gearing down and defensive driving necessary to avoid accident at intersection.able to complete short distance home where iinspected brakes and uncovered rusted and leaking break lines.vehicle with less than 90,000 miles.extremely dangerous and gm/nhtsa should be ashamed that a recall has not been initiated. Only a matter of time before someone is not as lucky as me and other complainants.
Brake pedal went all the way to the floor. Later on, the information console displayed a service brake system message. The brake lines are so rusted out that they are now leaking brake fluid.
Every brake gas and cooling line rusted. I have looked at other vehicles of same year and miles different makes. No where as rusted as my 06 silverado.
Abs applies for no reasonat 10 to 5 mph.making truck travel 6 to 15 feetbeyond expected stopping distance. I think this is very dangerous.
Driving on the road at approx. 35 mph and had to make a abrupt stop. After making the abrupt stop, i proceeded down the road. The next time i pushed the brakes the pedal felt soft. After pulling to the side of the road and checking the vehicle there was a large amount of brake fluid coming from the rear of the vehicle. After futher inspection, i found that the rear metal brake line had rusted and busted open.
Brake line rust through.driving down the road hit brakes went to floor.still had front brakes and was able to stop. Having the truck towed to have lines replaced.
Brake lines rusted out. This is the second time i have had this problem with this vehicle. A hole developed in a brake line which resulted in no brakes at all. I had to spend $1400 at the chevy dealership to have all of my brake lines and front calipers replaced.
Coming up to traffic signal and brake pedal went to the floor. Brake line rusted out. Stopped by slamming it into 1st gear and using the parking brake. Very dangerous!
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet silverado. While driving 35 mph and attempting to decrease in speed, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard and failed to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 86,642.
I was going back to my job location after leaving a training class. Applied brakes as i approached a stop sign. Brake pedal had no resistance and went to the floor. Luckily, i was on school district property so the speed limit was 15. Was able to get to my local mechanic who found a ruptured brake line. He also informed me that all brake lines were rusted and while he could not say another one will rupture tomorrow, he felt to be safe they should all be replaced. We tow a camper with this truck and while i know the camper's brakes will stop the truck, some of the campground we visit are mountain campgrounds with steep grades and when we leave the campground to do something (example: go out to eat), not knowing if the truck brakes will work is not very comforting.
Brake lines rusted through, leaking fluid.
Upon driving home on my street my brake pedal went to the floor. Have break line corroded and leaking below driver side door. Was able to stop safely as i was on a residential road with a low speed limit.
Brake line rupture resulting in immediate brake failure without warning.parallel parking a 2006 silverado when we encountered a complete brake failure and nearly struck another parked vehicle.brake petal depressed completely to the floor without warning.steered truck toward curb to fully stop before striking other vehicle.immediate inspection revealed brake line rupture on drivers side of vehicle in undercarriage area near back of drivers seat.significant loss of brake fluid and complete brake failure.fortunately traveling less than 5 mph - five minutes earlier we were traveling at speeds of 70 mph on interstate highway.this could have been a catastrophic event had it occurred on the interstate or the offramp.vehicle passed a virginia state safety inspection three weeks earlier.gm or nhtsa should warn gm owners to check their brake lines and also consider a recall.
I was getting ready to pull out on the main hwy. When hitting my brakes to stop before entering, the brake pedal went to floor, i,m glad no one got hurt and i parked the truck safely. After parking it there was a puddle of brake fluid on the road. All the four lines were rusted and one or two broke. I've bought 4 new chev. This 2006has had rusty brake lines since 2008 or 2009 when i bought it. These lines have rusted on a lotof these 2006 chev. Trucks i've heard. I think gm should do something about them, before we have another cobalt tragic. [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
I applied the brakes. The brake pedal went to the floor with little resistance. I got the truck home and noticed brake fluid draining from the drivers side metal brake line just forward of the rear axle.
Vehicle lost brakes due to corroded steel brake lines.
While driving 2006 chevy silverado pick up truck, my wife experienced sudden and total brake failure.when she pressed on brakes to slow vehicle, pedal fell to floor and brakes were unresponsive.my wife barely avoided an accident and pulled into shopping center.after arriving at scene to retrieve my wife, i checked brake fluid level, which was below "minimum". I added a full can of brake fluid, and had her press brakes while vehicle was stationary. I could hear hissing, and saw liquid spray escape under pressure from under hood.mechanic later informed me that brake line for front brakes was rusted through and brakes failed when system pressure from applying brakes burst the rusted line.he said my wife was lucky she didn't crash or worse.he advised me that entire undercarriage was very rusted and other parts were so rusted that in order to bleed air from brake system, they had to replace rusted calipers.i am concerned about safety of this vehicle and based on my review of other drivers' complaints and internet forums, it appears catastrophic brake failure is a widespread and pervasive problem for gm silverado vehicles.see https://sites.google.com/site/gmbadbrakes/please investigate this as a matter of public safety.
Left rear brake line blew out and rusted through. Do not trust any other brake line on this truck now.
Driving my 2006 silverado 3500 hd when the car ahead decided on a sudden left turn. Went to apply my brakes and had to stand on the pedal while swerving, narrowly missing the compact car. After evaluation at the gm certified dealership that we use for inspection and repair on all 8 of our gm business and personal vehicles, we were informed that the brake erosion/rusting was a common defect in the brake lines used. Contacted gm and they offered to pay half of the $1400.00 bill and stated that there is no recall for this issue. There needs to be a recall for the safety of everyone on the road!
The brake lines rusted out and the fluid leaked out causing brake failure.
2006 silverado 1500in october 2012, as i approached a stop light, my brake pedal lost pressure and went to the floor.i was able to pull into a parking lot and stop by pumping the pedal and using the parking brake.the cause was a rusted out brake line, which i paid the shop to replace.in february 2013, i pressed the brake pedal to shift into drive in my driveway and the brake pedal again lost pressure and went to the floor.i had the truck towed to a mechanic and upon inspection learned that all of the brake lines are rusted out including at the abs module connection point.the only repair option is a $2000 job to remove the body from the truck to replace every single brake line.through internet searches and by my mechanic's experience, this is clearly a known problem that gm should be recalling silverados for.
Brakelines have corroded,rotted out.
Complete brake failure due to brake line defect / leak.repair estimate from dealership $2800.00+.
While traveling along rt 80 in new jersey at 65 mph, traffic began to slow in all lanes. I hit my brakes only to find that my foot went completely to the floor and had possibly 10% braking ability remaining to stop the truck. I was only able to avoid contacting the vehicles in front of me by downshifting, using the emergency brake and running onto the highway shoulder and off the road to avoid an accident.i was able to drive slowly to the closest repair shop where i was informed that the brake lines were corroded and leaking brake fluid. As a result, when i hit my brakes, the brake fluid leaked causing the lack of peddle pressure and did not operate the brakes properly. I had no previous warning that there was any brake problems. Additionally, the gas lines were corroded and required replacement. This is an additional hazard that could cause a fire.the corroded brake line issue is a well known (except to me prior to the incident) and documented problem of which chevrolet refuses to notify vehicle owners. The first time owners are aware of the brake line problem is when they try to stop the truck and by that point, it is too late.
Left my driveway at 5am to go to work. At the end of the block is a stop sign. Applied my brakes and the pedal went all the way down to the floor. Could not stop and went thru the stop sign. There was not lights or warning concerning the brakes. At further inspection i saw that the rear brake line was rusted thru. Noticed that all the other brake lines are on the verge of rusting thru as well. A very scary sight.
I was coming home from my daughters soccer game with her and my ex-wife as passengers.we were approximately 50 miles from home traveling on the interstate when i applied my brakes and peddle went slowly to the floor. I managed to get slowed down and by quickly pumping my brakes i could get enough pressure to stop the truck. I phoned a friend and he brought a trailer and we hauled it home. I do a lot of my mechanic work because of garage cost. I replaced the one line, had another one rust out so replaced all 4 of them. Then just this past week i was going down my steep driveway approximately 1/8 mile long and brake line under radiator broke and had to use emergency brake to get stopped. I keep my truck clean underneath and on top and the frame is rusting so bad it's shameful!! the bumpers and cab corners are rusting too.
While driving at 10 mph the rear brakes failed. Upon investigation it was found that the rear brake line had rusted out at the connection to the splitter located on frame above the rear axle.
All front brake lines below the drivers seat rusted through. A complete loss of brakes was experienced.
For the third time a brake line has rusted completely through and caused complete loss of control. It was located under the drivers seat above the frame. I had absolutely no brakes at 70 mph on hwy 5. I took it to a chevy dealership and they told me it was not their problem. I am extremely concerned about the forth brake line that is complexly covered in rust. This is going to kill someone when it rusts through.
This vehicle has had multiple brake issues since new. First off, it goes through front brake pads and rotors too frequently. First replaced around 25k and again around 60k. This vehicle has mostly been used for long highway trips, ny to fl etc., not around town. Used in rural area. Next, several brakes lines have burst and had to be replaced. The last incident luckily was in my driveway. Having dual brake cylinders on these trucks does not seem to help if a brake line bursts. I needed the emergency brake to stop it on almost flat ground. A recurring problem is with the abs. Evidently they rust easily, especially in salt belt states, then corrosion on the sensor and hub causes it to activate for no reason. It does not activate the computer control or give warning. It happens intermittently. I had to have one front hub replaced in 2013 and another in 2014. Now i am having to replace one of those again with the dealer recommending to replace both. The cost is over $750 per side. There were recalls on previous year models but not 2006. This is ridiculous and the brake line issue has been going on with chevrolet for a very long time. I had to replace most lines on my 1996 silverado. I can't believe that nhsta allows this to go on year after year. Nothing is more important than braking, nothing!
My truck has a serious rust problem. I was driving from pennsylvania to buffalo when my brake line snapped "spewing brake fluid all over"on the highway while driving at 65mph. At the dealer i was showed that not only where my brake lines rotted but everything involving the brakes "calipers, rotors, pads " fuel lines, frame control arms, everything under the truck, which was bought new. The brake pads, calipers & rotors were replaced by my mechanic at 25,000 with parts bought by gm. My truck is in excellent shape from what you can see & is garage kept.from what i see this is a common problem with gm trucks from 2000-2012.
Brake line has completely deteriorated and leaking and should be recalled. Recently had to replace wheel speed sensors as well.
Saw wet spot under driver's side of truck, just behind engine compartment. Knew it wasn't good as the ac is on the other side. Figured i'd check it later. Started truck and as soon as i put my foot on the brake pedal, i could feel something was wrong. Stopped truck, popped hood and checked brake fluid level in master cylinder. Saw it was low. Added a pint of fluid and looked under the truck. Saw it leaking from a rusted out brake line near the abs module. All lines are rusted and in need of replacement.
The contact owns 2006 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated while driving approximately 2 mph in reverse the vehicle failed to respond to deceleration attempts. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the mechanic stated that the brake lines were covered with rust. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet silverado. While driving approximately 35 mph the brake warning light illuminated. The contact depressed the brake pedal but the vehicle would not respond. The contact was able to park the vehicle and upon exiting, noticed oil leaking from under the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing where the technician advised the contact that the brake lines were corroded and would have to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 72,000.
While applying breaks on dry surfaces and coming to a stop the abs kicks in and pedal goes to the floor. This causes the stopping distance to increase. I have almost rear-ended stopped and parked cars and ran into my garage door. There have been to many close calls so i have pulled the fuse to shut off the abs.
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the brake pedal was applied and traveled abnormally to the floorboard. The contact mentioned that the vehicle hesitated to stop. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was informed that the front and rear brake lines needed to be replaced due to corrosion. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000.
I have a 2006 chevrolet silverado 2500hd all of the brake linings had rusted. My brakes failed while i was driving.fortunately i controlled the vehicle and was able to stop, saw the leak and was towed .a private company replaced all lines.i emailed my concern to chevrolet, asked to have my comments forwarded to ceo-product improvement. Subsequently had a phone conversation (866-790-5600) [xxx]with [xxx] could not send this information to ceo product improvement. If the brake linings fail you have no brakes. My service request[xxx] i spoke to private mechanicsthey said this was systemic issue to chevrolet. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Abs kick in at low speeds increasing stopping distance by several feet.
The brakes on this vehicle fail at low speeds (approx. 5 mph).this is a known problem for this vehicle.chevy has issued a technical bulletin on this problem (low speed abs activation, bulletin #03-05-25-007c). I had this problem repaired in october 2010.now the same problem is occurring again, roughly 10,000 miles later.information about this problem is readily available online.many silverado owners have complained about it.please advise if there has been any recall action on this issue.i believe there was a recall on prior models, but not 2006 and beyond models, although it is clearly still a problem.
I was backing up the truck when a car came up behind me and had to hit the brakes hard. The peddle went all the way to the floor, no brakes at all. Had to steer the truck into a snow bank to avoid an accident. The cab of the truck immediately smelled like brake fluid. Took the truck to the shop and discovered the brake lines are rusted at every point where they connect to the frame. Repaired the first leak and another leak started in another line in the same area the lines attached to the frame behind the drivers side front wheel. Repaired the second leak and a 3rd leak appeared inside the frame rail behind the cab where the line attaches to the frame. The lines can not be safely repaired. All new lines must be installed. The truck only has 10,250 miles on it and is always washed including the under carriage after driving on salted roads.
Happened in the driveway, thankfully.brake pedal spongy, pushed again and went to the floor.got out of the truck and found a puddle of brake fluid under the driver's side.further inspection, the brake line has rusted through and was spraying fluid when the pedal was pushed.complete failure of brakes.thank goodness for the e brake.
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet silverado. While driving 10 mph, the brake pedal shook when it was depressed. The failure recurred several times. The dealer stated that the sensor was rusted and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.
Traveling 60 mph on the highway and approached a red traffic light. Applied the brakes to stop with other traffic. Brake pedal went completely to the floor with approximately 10% braking power. No warning lights on dash. Fortunately the traffic light turned green and traffic moved prior to a crash. Crash was guaranteed if traffic light had not changed. Brake fluid level fine. Brake line under drivers side rusted and burst. No warning signs.
Had soft brake pedal. No warning light.pull over to side of road. Found rotten brake lines at frame rail where lines cross over at plastic block that holds lines to frame. Fluid leaked out.
Brake lines had holes in them caused by corrosion, fuel line also.noticed problem before anything serious happened.cost over 1000.00 to replace brake and fuel lines.
Rusted brake line resulting in total brake failure while driving and attempting to stop
I have found that the steel lines running along the frame rails are rusting and found a patch in one place and the possibility of more leaks happening.
Testing new front brakes and rear brake lines ruptured. Limped home, parked truck called gm. Never had this issue in the past. Gm seems not very concerned and may get back to me. I feel fortunate to have escaped serious injury to my family and self. I think that it is unconscionable for gm to use inferior productsand play russian roulette with our safety.please utilize this information to raise the safety standards by which these companies have compromisedfor the sake of their profit margins.when i notified gm, my call was put through to someone([xxx]) in the philippines. Why wouldthey care about us? american companies have sold out and farmed out their goods and services.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Pulling truck out of garage the brake pedal went to the floor.upon examination the brake line had blown a hole thru the rusted brake lines.all of the brake lines that are not coated are rusted and integrity of the metal is poor.had to have all brake lines replaced for a sum of $900..
While traveling on the expressway in my 2006 chevrolet silverado with 26,000 miles on the odometer, i attempted a transient lane change while taking evasive action in order to avoid a hazardous situation. When coupled with the brakes i noticed longer than usual engagement. As a result, i was forced onto the shoulder and had to use multiple downshifts in concert with the emergency brake to bring the vehicle to a halt. It sounded like a train stopping on rails. I proceeded to drive home with hazards on,u never exceeding third gear. The following morning i noticed clear oil underneath the front end of the vehicle. I believe this is an extremely dangerous vehicle and a less experienced driver would have been killed or extremely injured. Lastly, i have also been noticing inconsistency with steering resistance. Sometimes the steering is considerably looser than at other times. I have dismissed this disconcerting sensation by assuming it is weather/humidity related.
Backing up small grade, applied brakes and the pedal felt soft, pumped brake second time and pedal went all the way to the extent of its travel.drifted to level area checked brake fluid which was near empty.the brake line under driver side floor area along frame rail had burst.the lines are rusted and flaking.had vehicle towed to independent repair shop as i did not find a recall on this.repair shop indicated that this is a normal problem for this make/ model vehicle.
Complete loss of brakes while attending a reenacting ceremony at the eckley miners village and delivering supplies - all brake lines were completely rusted out.
The vehicle was parked and i entered it to start it.when i applied my foot to the brake pedal i heard a loud pop (like a balloon popping) and a recoil in the brake pedal.come to find out, the diaphragm in the brake booster broke thus leaving me with very little brakes.i am just glad i was the one behind the wheel and the vehicle was in park.i can only imagine if this had happened while driving through town.or if someone like my 18 year old son had been driving.after speaking with multiple mechanics, it was brought to my attention that this is one of those things that "never happens"...especially on a 2006 with only 63k miles on it.when i called chevrolet they told me that it would be noted but they could not help cover the cost of repair as it was not under warranty.although i do know it's out of warranty, i thought they might cover it as it is not a wear and tear issue...it is a mechanical defect and a major safety issue.it has been repaired and i'm just hoping it does not occur again.unfortunately there is absolutely no way at all to predict if and when this will ever occur on any other vehicle.i just hope it doesn't happen to mine again.
My wife was driving my truck a 2006 silverado and said the brake light came on so i filled it up didn't think much of it did a quick look didn't see anything 2 weeks later she said it was on again so i filled it up again and this time did a thorough inspection checked the master cylinder, booster started checked each caliper and nothing so i got under the truck and its leaking from the middle of the truck under the drivers seat the brake lines are all rusty. I do all of my work on my cars but this looks ridiculous where do you start rip them all out and replace all? they are on top of the frame rail which look impossible to get to it looks like its going to be a lot of money is there a recall for this? i hope some can help me out the truck is very clean especially underneath that's the only thing rusted out of everything. *ln
Driving my 2006 silverado 3500 hd when the car ahead decided on a sudden left turn. Went to apply my brakes and had to stand on the pedal while swerving, narrowly missing the compact car. After evaluation at the gm certified dealership we use for inspection and repair on all 8 of our gm business and personal vehicles, we were informed that the brake erosion/rusting was a common defect in the brake lines used. Contacted gm and they offered to pay half of the $1400.00 bill and stated that there is no recall for this issue. There needs to be a recall for the safety of everyone on the road!
As i was procedin towards a yield sign, my brakes seemed to have given out. The vehicle would stop but slowly and nearly caused me to get sideswiped by an oncoming vehicle. Upon returning home i saw a massive pol of brake fluid underneath the vehicle. Having another person hit the brakes i saw that the fluid was escaping from the metal brake line running underneath the cooling fans. The line was severely corroded by rust.
While approaching a traffic signal my brake pedal went all the way to the floor.i drove my vehicle slowly home and checked brake fluid level.it was low and i topped it off.i tried the brakes again and once again the pedal went to floor.i went under the vehicle and brake fluid was dripping off the cross member just behind the engine.i could see that all the brake lines were very rusty. I was able to get the vehicle to big o tires. After inspection, it was found that the brake line had rusted through and all the others were in very bad shape and i had all the lines replaced. After some research i found this was a known problem and gm has redesigned the lines but, refused to recall and replace the lines. You need to research this problem further and insist on a recall before someone is killed. I am the original owner and as indicated by the mileage the vehicle is not driven that much and very well taken care of.
My vehicle with 57,000 miles had the brakes go out while driving without warning.i took it to a mechanic who said the front brake lines had rusted and broke.i have had the work completed.i feel this is a product defect for a low mileage vehicle.it is very well taken care of and has very few miles on it, and i have owned it since it was new.i have been in contact with chevrolet and they will not provide me with any answers.they keep telling me to take it to a dealership, however the dealership has told me there is nothing they can do.
Another vehicle ran a red light in front of me and i had to apply brakes quickly. The brake line ruptured , i swerved, and barely missed the other car. They would have been killed if i was not able to move into the opposite lane.latter found that the rupture was caused by excessive rust. Had that section replaced but its too expensive to replace all the lines - waiting for another failure.
Activation of abs braking system on 2006 silverado 1500 on clean dry pavement at low speed resulting in increased braking distance.problem seems to be increasing in frequency. .
2006 chevy silverado truck with 9480 miles. When coming to a slow stop abs system on right side would engage under normal stopping and cause truck to lurch. Problem was a cracked speed sensor on that side - replaced part, normal braking returned.
2006 chevrolet silverado extended cad 4x4 had the abs kick in at low speeds, when not needed. This was part of a recall for earlier model year trucks of the same make and model but was never fully corrected by gm.
The abs on my 2006 silverado activates on low speed stops on dry pavement causing the brakes to release. I have almost rear-ended vehicles because of this. The dealer says i have to pay to get it fixed. I've been out of warranty for only 2 months and there's only 19,000 miles on the truck.there's a chevy tech bulletin out on the problem too. Why hasn't there been a recall? how can i get the dealer to correct this flaw in their abs system without paying $700?
The abs system in my 2006 chevy silverado does not function properly at low speed. The abs activates when braking causing the vehicle to travel further when coming to a stop.after researching the problem on the internet i found that this is an ongoing issue with gmc vehicles.
Brake lines through out truck are rotting.
Abs activates at low speeds. Dealer states nothing can be done to permanently resolve the issue.nov 2009 (13000 miles)had the speed sensor replaced. Oct 2010 front brakes replaces(22000 miles) now december 2010 with 24000 miles happening again.

Brake lines ruptured and brake pedal went to floor. Stopped using emergency brake.
2006 chevy silverado truck front abs antilock sensors failed due to corrosion gm had a recall 08/30/2005 for same problem on 2002 models, they knew about this in 05 (when my truck was built) but only admit to 2002 models nhtsa campaign # 05v37900 - think this needs to be extended to all models they built this way.
Brake lines rusted completely through and blew out while braking and lost all pressure. Fuel lines are severely rusted.
Complete brake failure when brakes applied in brake system. Pedal went to the floorboard without any warning or braking action. Rear brake line rusted thru above gas tank and expelled all brake fluid when pedal was depressed.there was no braking or slowing from any wheel. Fluid was all over tire and axle on the left rear. Lucky that i did not have any vehicles directly in front of me as i had to coast to a stop. Definitely reading the other posts on the web that this is no fluke and does not need to be a high mileage vehicle. Truck is not used for snow removal and sees limited driving during winter months.

About a year and a half ago i started hearing and feeling a light knocking in my steering column when i would make a turn. It took several months for it to get consistent for anyone else to hear it then it began to get a lot worse. I took it by my mechanic and he told me that it was in the steering. He said that they use to just lube them again but now you have to order a kit from themanufacture. He knew what the problem was immediately after driving it through the parking lot because he had the very same problem on his chevy truck in the past and had seen several others since then. He informed me it was safe to drive for now and i have yet to get it fixed. You can tell it is a lubrication problem because it is not as noticeable in the winter vs. The summer when it is hotter and the lube flows more freely. Now i see the same complaint on here and other web sites regarding this same problem and thatit will keep happening over and over. The knocking has become very loud when i make a turn either way now. If this is a known problem with this model then why has it not been recalled? especially if a owner has to continually have it fixed after every 10-20 thousand miles. I am afraid that if it is not fixed soon i may lose control of the steering. I have also noticed a lot of wear on my tires that should not be there after keeping it continually maintained. My truck is five years old but it only has around 25,000 miles on it. Please i urge you to look into this problem before someone does end up hurt.
2006 chevrolet silverado. Consumer requests reimbursement *tgwthe consumer stated he had no steering ability. The dealer informed the consumer a bolt fell out of the intermediate steering shaft.
Popping noise from steering, when turning on irregular surfaces which can also be felt in steering wheel, leading driver to believe that there is a defect in the front suspension or steering. Contact w/dealer service manager indicated that this is a common issue on full size gm trucks for several years, resulting from a poorly designed"intermediate steering shaft",which apparently needs to be replaced every few thousand miles to forestall this problem. Research shows that this issue is well known to owners of such vehicles and gm as there have been tsbs(patch-up)issued multiple timesthese bulletins seem to indicate basically to grease the part, thereby temporarily quieting it for a time with no permanent resolution, until owner is "off-warranty"snf willing to shell out the out of pocket costs for correct repair. My vehicle(2006) was purchased new with a standard 3 yr/36000mi warranty which expired 3/09 datewise, however the vehicle only has 11000 highway miles on it and has never been used off-road or abused. Apparently gm has,as of 01/07 a redesigned replacement part(per gm tsb)but,is at owners cost(parts/labor) if your 3yr/36000 or 2007-on 5/50 warranty has passed its date/mileage time.i find it quite irritating that although gm and aftermarket suppliers have been aware of this problem for nearly 2 decades they knowingly continued to utilize a substandard part until 2007. Also it appears a warranty"extension"regarding this part has been issued for 2007+models up to 70kmi,however dealer denies knowledge.gm customer service says to have problem"diagnosed"(at my expense),and if problem exists, dealer can make repairs(at my expense).maybe if i(disabled) had $300-400 spare cash laying around i could afford their game but cannot.
I had issues with steering control, specially on curves at 40 t0 65 miles p/h on the road from beginning of the purchase.i have been to chevy dealer to complain about safety issue on the road.but dealer finds no physical defect on the car.on mat 15 2015 finally i lost the control of steering wheel and hit the side walk curb and broke front and rear axles.likely no personal injury.i am very concerned about safety of other owners in this regard.i have checked other resources to find if there are similar cases like mine, and surprisingly there are too many of them.please let me help to save others from loosing their lives.thanks.
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet silverado. While driving approximately 30 mph the contact stated that she hit a bump in the road and the vehicle front end became loose which caused the vehicle to move in another lane. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who advised her to take the vehicle some where else to get a front end alignment. The contact stated that the failure was constant and became progressively worse. In march 2009 the dealer replaced the steering gear. In december 2009 the dealer replaced the intermediate steering shaft, the bearings, bushing and the lower steering shaft. The dealer also repaired a leaky seal on the left and right side of the steering gear which included a gear kit in september 2010. The contact was not experiencing a failure at this time but stated that she had several problems with the steering. The failure mileage was 875 and the current mileage was 70,200.
Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)we have a 2006 silverado chevrolet truck [xxx] .there has been a squeaking in the steering-wheel column, and the car is becoming increasingly difficult to steer.a mechanic found that the inner tie rods need to be replaced and a part of the steering column needs to be replaced.a local dealership says, "there is no recall" even though there was an earlier recall on chevrolet-truck steering systems.the manufacturer instructed us to get in touch with you. The spare tire structure disintegrated due to rust. The spare tire was hanging and was easily pulled out by hand. The structure that holds the spare tire in place is blocked by the spare tire and does not get washed, creating an area where the dirt and salt accumulate. This easily could have fallen off on the highway.

I am writing to report what i believe to be a critical problem with the 2006 chevrolet silverado pickup. It is very likely, from what i have read from other owners' reports, that the problem is not exclusive to the year 2006. It may well pertain to several other years for this model produced around the same time.i purchased a new chevrolet silverado 1500 pickup in september of 2006. Only a short time after the 36,000 mile warranty ended i had to replace the wheel bearing assembly on the passenger's side. The licensed mechanic replaced it with a universal bearing for a cost to me of $250. This was a much better price than other estimates i received.this occurred in 2008. After only 15 months, this same bearing had to be replaced again at another expense of $250.the mechanic determined in both instances that the damage was caused by extensive rust on the hubs of the assembly due to poor design of the system. The area where we live has an elevation of 4200 feet. We live along the spine of the appalachian mountains of northwestern north carolina, where the winters are quite severe with icy roads and therefore needing to be treated with salt during much of the winter months.this rust is leading to damage to the abs system or brake line as the salt gets into the bearing.this then is causing an unsafe condition in which a much longer stopping distance takes place when the brakes are applied. In addition, it causes a jerking or grabbing motion rather than the usually smooth movement of normal anti-locking braking systems.today, for the third time since owning the truck, i have again had to replace one of the wheel-bearing assemblies. This time is was to the driver's side assembly which makes a replacement being needed twice to the passenger side wheel and once to the driver side wheel.
Every brake gas and cooling line rusted. I have looked at other vehicles of same year and miles different makes. No where as rusted as my 06 silverado.
Both right and left front wheel bearings/hubs failed within 2000 miles of each other, onset of problem was sudden from detection of gringing noise to wobble and possible lose of tire (approximately 3 miles) current mileage 59,500.
Dt*:the contact stated while driving various speeds the vehicle vibrated and caused excessive tire wear.the vehicle was taken to an independent tire dealer who determined the vehicle had a problem that caused the wear on the tires but they could not determine what the problem was.the vehicle was driven to the dealer who determined nothing was wrong with it.

I recently purchased a 2006 chevrolet silverado, it is leaning very badly to the driver side of the vehicle.i was told the vehicle is not damaged, bent, or warped in any way.i was told it was just built "that badly, and should have never passed an inspection of any kind".the dealership first tried to use the slack adjuster bars that are made to adjust this kind of problem.this fix did not work since it was leaning so badly.they ordered special parts (a shim and longer u-bolts) and installed them a couple days later.this also did not come even close to fixing the problem, and i was once again sent on my way.i am now waiting for a response from gm, while i am still being forced to drive my unsafe vehicle which i feel is at great risk for a rollover.

The dealer replaced the front passengers side wheel bearings. On a later date, while driving at unknown speeds, the contact stated that there was an unusual ticking noise coming from both sides of the wheel area. The left front tire then fractured from the vehicle. The contact was advised by an independent mechanic that the failure was contributed to the defective wheel bearings. The failure mileage was 31,200 and the current mileage was 32,000.
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet silverado.while driving 45 mph, the front passenger side wheel bearing overheated and was replaced by the dealer.the dealer stated that it is only a matter of time before the other three wheel bearings fail because the manufacturer used defective material and grease.the vin was unknown.the failure and current mileages were 64,000.

Multiple failures of chevrolet oem hitch receivers, i am employed as an aviation safety inspector for the houston texas flight standards district office. My hitch is in the process of failing after towing a pop-up trailer less than 100 miles, it was used well within the limits of the hitch and my 2006 silverado has approx. 600 miles on it. This failure is applicable to 1998-2006 chevrolet suv's and trucks. Please go to this linkhttp://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfmand then search hitch failure. You will find over 200 posts about these failures. This defect has reportedly caused multiple fatalities and injuries when being used properly and gm will not acknowledge the deficiency.please contact me by phone, i will send a picture of mine with the cracked weld. This problem can be rectified with a recall on these hitch receivers.
In attempting to purchase a 4x4, lwb, 2006 chevy silverado-hd truck from bartow chevrolet, they refused to furnish me with written proof that the recalls listed for this vehicle were not in the lot of recalls listed on the internet.further, the gm supplier discount office and the chevrolet marketing department also refused to furnish this written proof.bartow chevrolet told me that since i requested this written proof, i couldn't trust them and since i couldn't trust, they were not going to sell the truck to me; because i, as the consumer, wanted written proof that this vehicle was safe to drive and would not cause harm or death to me or anyone else in this vehicle.to me, it was a fair consumer request to ask bartow chevrolet to provide written proof that this was a safe vehicle to drive, that all of the recalls had been fixed, and that anyone driving or riding in this vehicle would also be reassured of being safe from bodily harm and/or death.
Blower fan for heat and a/c stopped working. Replaced resistor assembly and it worked for about three days.checked to see what was the matter and saw that the connection had melted.

The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.
When using a/c drivers side of cab will blow heat while passenger side blows cold. This is a continuous problem that started while still in warranty.
Dt*: the contact stated while driving various speeds on the highway, the side rear view mirrors vibrated.the vehicle was driven to the dealer who determined no defect was found and the mirrors were designed that way. Updated 12/5/2006 - the consumer contacted the bbb and shortly afterward he was contacted by gm.gm agreed that there was a problem and had the dealer replace the mirrors with another style.the new mirrors seem to be performing well.
Had been out of town for week-end.was returning and traveling north on i-65 towards montgomery, alabama. Exited i-65 north to make a gas stop at greenville, alabama.upon reaching yield sign noticed loud scraping, crunching, popping noise coming from left front of vehicle.stopped immmediately at service station.checked vehicle by moving backwards and forwards.noise continued.spent the night at hotel.called repair shop following monday morning.they replaced front wheel hub assembly.they have old parts.mechanic said we were lucky wheel did not come off on interstate and cause bad mvw.vehicle has 35,000 miles on it.no noise was coming from wheel until exiting highway.no motion in steering or any indication that there was a problem.was told by several other mechanics that this is not uncommon incident.that the assembly is not servicable and that it just goes bad immediately without warning.have had report that one vehicle had both wheel hubs go out within a few weeks of each other.
Front passenger wheel bearing went out first time at 29,000 miles, second time same wheel bearing went out at 42,000 miles. Both times fixed by a local repair shop. Was told lucky wheel didn't fall off. I looked online and other people having same problem. Chevy silverado 1/2 ton pickup 4 wheel drive automatic if that makes a difference.
