The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that the air bag light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that the wiring for the air bag sensor under the passenger seat was failing. The vin was available. The failure mileage was unknown andthe current mileage was 50,000.

As i was driving the "service air bag" warning appeared in the information center of the dash and the air bag light started to blink.there was no reason for the warning light.i re-set the information center and the warning reappeared.very disappointing as there are only 64,537 miles on the vehicle. I checked on the internet tosee if there was a recall for this problem for my vehicle, as the miles are very low on my vehicle. Of course there was none for my vehicle. It appears this is a common problem with gm vehicles and an extra expense to the owners.i'm very disappointed at this point. I could not locate any recalls for my vehicle vin, but there were other recalls involving the air bags with other gm vehicles. I'm lost for words.

Dt*:the contact stated the vehicle was involved in an accident on dry roads.two vehicles collided in front of the contact, causing an emergency braking situation.the contact collided with the rear of the second vehicle, and the air bags did not deploy.the contact was injured in the accident.an independent repair shop was consulted and they were unable to duplicate the problem.

In july, my service air bags light came on intermittently in my truck. Everytime i took it to the dealer they couldn't reproduce the light. Not long after that started to happen, the truck started to "chime"(warning signal) and beep, also at intermittent intervals. After 5 trips to the dealer and 19 days later(in the shop) they might have fixed the problem.

Srs warning came on. Had fault code. Called chevy dealer and they said i would need a new airbag. I researched and found that gm does know about this and even put out a tsb. It is a connector to the airbag itself located in the left kick panel. The fix is to clean the connector or replace it. No new airbag is needed but it did reoccur about a year later. Recleaned and ok again. This is a safety item and should be a recall. Since gm knew it i must assume that nhtsa knew it also. I can see where a lot of people would not fix this and just drive like this since a lot of technicians think you need a new airbag when it is in fact poor wiring by gm.

Air bag lightstayson.

Check airbag light stays on.. Do i need to disengage? please advise.

For no apparent reason, the air bag warning lights on vehicle came on when starting the vehicle.vehicle has not been involved in any accident.vehicle was taken in for repair and repair shop said the front sensors for no apparent reason had gone defective disabling the air bags on vehicle.sensors had to be replaced and i was told parts were only available from a chevrolet dealership. After repair i checked online and found numerous other owners of chevrolet vehicles have experienced the same problem.i am concerned with the safety issue of disabled air bags when this part goes defective for no reason.

2005 chevy silverado ck1500. Consumer writes in regards to disabling theswitch forthe drivers' airbag or if she can obtain a waiver so that the dealership can disable the driver's airbag *tgwthe consumer stated she has to have the seat up all the way, in order to reach the pedals; particularly the clutch.the consumer stated there is no way she can back further than the recommended 10 inches from the steering wheel, due to her height.

My air bag sensor malfunctioned.this is a part that should be guaranteed by general motors.instead i paid over $500 dollars to have it repaired at a dealership.64k miles / 8 years and the air bag sensor needs to be replaced?i searched online and noticed many others are having this problem.gm got a government bailout and should be required to pay for this repair.

Service air bag warning light has been on since 2007, when vehicle was still under warranty.has been to bob grimm chevrolet in morton, il for this same problem approx 9 times.i no longer live in the vicinity of this dealer, and wouldn't want them working on it again since they have been unable to repair multiple times.written communication to gm all the way up to ceo has not resolved this issue.jack schmitt chevrolet in o'fallon, il did a diagnostic and reported the air bag in my vehicle is used.nobody has ever worked on the truck regarding the air bag except bob grimm chevrolet.my understanding is when this light is on, the air bag will not deploy, endangering my life.

I was driving 75 mph with my cruise control on, and the speedometer dropped to 35 mph. Shortly after, about 10 miles, the air bag light came on. The speedometer reset after turning off the ignition switch and worked properly. This happened again two more times, and the speedometer failed completely. The air bag light remained on and is still on at 123,000 miles. Diagnostic check showed number 1 air bag sensor fault. Replaced sensor. Air bag light still on. I sent the speedometer head to a private mechanic in minnesota, and it now works fine.

Service airbag light on.

While driving down the road my service air bag light when on, was told air bags and safety products would not work unless fixed,$500.00 later done 2yrs later 08/22/14 light is on again?? 30,000 more miles? i never off road and keep my stuff very nice.

Service air bag light was activated without any reason.

Turned key on and light saying service airbag came on.local mechanic said he read that there was going to be a recall on it.

Upon starting truck in morning, "service air bag" message came on. Took to dealer who said the l front impact sensor failed and needs to be replaced $400+. Cost seems excessive and the safety system failure, if that is what it really is, should not be my responsibility.

I was driving the vehicle at normal speeds and i have had this vehicle for about 6 months and never have had a problem with it. All the sudden i get a message that says "service air bag". I took the truck to the dealer and they diagnosed it and they said that the truck needs a new front drivers side impact sensor that went bad. This truck has never been in an accident and the airbags have never been deployed. They told me that if this repair does not get done, if i have an accident the airbags wouldn't deploy.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that the air bag sensor light was illuminated. The vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic that determined a sensor inside the front bumper was the cause of the defect. The contact also reported that the driver's side rear brake line was rusted and ruptured, which caused the rear brakes to become inoperable. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired for the problem. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 72,000.

Upon starting thetruck for the first time on 6-11-2013 the "service air bag" light came on and has stayed on.there is no reason for the failure other than poor craftsmanship.

When i got in the truck to go to work, airbag warning light along with the dic notification where on. With a osb ii reader, got a code or "b0104 front right senor replace". Replacedthe senor at owners expense. With new part installed the warning light and dic message cleared.

I had an accident on tuesday sept. 20, 2005 driving my 2005 chevy pickup k2500 hd 4 wheel drive. I lost control and went off highway striking a city dumpster headon and moving the dumpster approximately 50-60 ft. By police report and than going back on highway and crossing all 4 lanes before the truck stopped. My truck was totaled but my airbag never deployed. I was unconscious and was airlifted to vanderbilt hospital in nashville tn. Why didn't my airbag deploy with a headon crash of this force? this seems to be a defect in the product. I received a 4 inch cut across the bottom of my chin that required several stitches and very sore from my head down my right leg. Still following up with doctors....

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 50 mph, he lost control of the vehicle due to losing consciousness. The vehicle left the roadway and went airborne and crashed with a road sign landing in a field. None of the airbags deployed and only the seatbelt lap belt tensioned not the shoulder strap. The contact sustained injuries such as several lacerations across the face and inside the mouth, and broken l1 vertebrae. The contact mentioned he fractured the steering wheel with his face during the impact.a police report was filed and the vehicle was towed to a local lot then towed again to the contacts insurance lot where it was awaiting a diagnosis. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 281,000.

Airbag failure in head-on collision, totaling 2 trucks.

While driving 40 mph vehicle crashed into a store front. Upon impact, dual airbags did not deploy. No injuries reported.

At 38,000 miles on 2004 chevy silverado z71 the air bag light came on and would not go off. The rear view mirror which tells if someone is riding on the passenger front is off. There is no way to tell if they will work when needed or not.

Dt:the contactowns a 2005 chevrolet silverado.while driving ona steep curve he had to panic brake to avoid going over an embankment.the brakes lockedand would not allow the vehicle to slow down or stop.the vehicle hit the ground and proceeded to flip over.the vehicle is equipped with driver and passenger side air bags. Upon impact the front air bags did not deploy.the vehicle has not been inspected to determine why the brakes locked up or why the air bags did not deploy.he has not contacted the manufacturer or the service dealer.

Consumer purchased this vehicle because of the air bag feature.currently, every time there is an occupant in the passenger seat the air bag light comes on regardless of the weight.the dealer maintains that is the way the feature is to work.

Speedometer failure.

I was driving along when the cab filled with smoke and a burning plastic smell. I saw smoke come from under the passenger side dashboard. The blower motor resistor harness had caught fire. I was able to put it out with damage to only the harness and resistor. It was replaced under the extended warranty i had purchased from gm. Fast forward to may 9, 2010 and 50,000 miles later, the same thing happened and gm corporate told me there was nothing they could do even though this same model vehicle has been recalled in canada for the same problem. I was quoted $300.00 for the repair. On may 10.2010, my dealer called and said he received an e-mail from gm stating that gm was in the process of offering a 10 year 150,000 mile warranty on the blower motor and harness repair. Have not received any notice from gm yet but dealer said they would fix it no charge.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado. While the vehicle was parked with the air conditioner set on level five, the blower intermittently clicked off and on. The contact also stated that a burning smell emitted through the vents of the vehicle. The failure recurred on several occasions until level five and four settings no longer worked. The contact inspected the connector sw/power st adjuster and discovered that the wires were melted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer informed the contact that the connector and resistor for the air conditioner and heater and the resistor for the heater needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 97,000.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start accompanied by the illumination of the check engine warning light. The failure was recurring and sporadic.additionally, the instrument panel failed and the head lights would sporadically fail. The contact also stated that the rotors needed to be replaced on a regular basis. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who was not able to diagnose the multiple failures.the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 1000.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that the backlight and the gauge lights on the instrument panel had become abnormally dark. The contact was unable to see any of the gauges on the instrument panel, including the tachometer and speedometer, which also failed intermittently. The battery warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to dealer for inspection or repair. The vin was unavailable.the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 98,000. The current mileage was 113,000.

Invalid speedometer readings, odometer works.

Vehicle will quit running and will or will not restart. Sometimes after 15 minutes it will. Quits running at any speed and at red lights.

Was driving down road looked down at my speedometer and it was pegged out over 120 mph i was only going about 15mph so i stopped and turned off truck and speedometer went down to 60 not 0 as it should i turned it back on and took off it did same thing all way over 120 mph so when i got where i was heading and turned truck off again same thing just dropped to 60 so i kept turning key on and off and it would drop about 5mph each time until it got to 0 went to dealer he said lot of problems with this model truck i would need a new dash and it would cost me $1200 i think gm should fix these truck it the law to have a working speedometer on your truck thank you.

Instrument cluster failure.odometer mileage wiped clean.display reads "odometer error".

Turned key on and light saying service airbag came on.local mechanic said he read that there was going to be a recall on it.

Blower resister keeps burning out.

The problem is the fan on gm trucks burns out.we were told by the service dept that the wires were burned up and that this required more parts and service. Needed resistor, connector and blower to repair.this is a potential fire hazard which is not being addressed by gm.apparently this is an issue that many vehicle owners have experienced but since no one has been killed i guess there is not reason to mandate a recall.we were told by the service dept. That many vehicles are being brought in for service because of this problem.this should be looked into.our vehicle has 38,000 miles.we have a friend who lives in nj that had the same problem within a year of purchasing his new truck.

Odometer stopped working as well as the blower motor control switch on my 2005 chevy silverado, 4.3l v6 4wd truck.

While the driving down the road , ipressed the release button on the steering wheel to adjust, then the engine cut off, all the panel gauge icons lighted up and the digital display for the "p r d r l" cycled across. I had to put the car in neutral to restart the engine.once i got home, i was able to duplicate the problem while idling in park on the drive way. This is a new silverado purchased june 24, 2005. Will take in to dealer asap.

I also have a 2005 silverado an the speedometer is stuck at 120 it has gone down as far as 60 but when you drive it pegs out and remains there. There were no warnings just happened around 82,000 now at 86,000 and 6,000 miles out of warranty. I feel that this is a safety hazard because i don't know my speed but i am lucky enough to have been given a gps to do that. I looked at gm website but they say i am over mileage for repair and i don't have the money for the repairs myself an feel this should be remedied by the manufacturer since it is a well know problem of theirs and this defective equipment.

Vehicle speedometer is inoperative. At highway speeds reading is 0 mph, or speedometer is stuck above 65 at a dead stop.

2005 silverado pickup. Heater fan motor resistor melting wires too a point that the wires couldn't be touched without being burned.warranty expired but problem exists.told dealership that i thought it was a safety issue. Ie: if combustible materials were to come into contact there would most likely be a fire.

At around 37,000 miles the speedometer started sticking and around 45,000 miles it completely went out and has been stuck at 120 mph ever since. I took it to the chevy dealership and they told me it would cost around 800.00 dollars to fix. I called and complained togm customer service, at which time they did nothing but told me to take it in and get it repair at my expense. I haven't had the money to have it repaired so far so i have been driving without it.i think chevy should recall the instrument clusters and fix the problem at their own expense.

I have a2005 chevrolet silverado.i kept smelling an odor of something burning but could not find where it was coming from until recently when my fan motor stopped working.i had been having problems with the switch not working in all positions.i called the dealership to inquire about the price and availability of the switch.the parts dept. Informed me that it was most likely the fan resistor or the plug because they have had several that needed replaced.when i looked under the dash i found what had been causing the smell.the resistor showed signs of being overheated and the wire harness was burnt for approximately 6 inches.this is a fire hazard and it is only a matter of time before someone is either injured or killed due to this defective resistor/plug.

While driving down the interstate at 70 mph, the engine suddenly stalled, resulting in the engine to quit.since our truck has a standard transmission, the driver simply "popped" the clutch and the engine started.about 10 miles later, the engine stalled several more times causing the engine to quit again forcing us to pull to the shoulder.we checked the battery cables, but the engine would not turn over. After a few minutes the engine started, but continued to stall.while in neutral, the rpm's were jumping over 3000 then falling below 500.at the same time, the battery gage was reading nearly nothing.no warningor check engine lights ever appeared .since we were in another state 500 miles from home, our only choice was to continue until we could find a gm mechanic.the engine continued to stall and misfire for another 60 miles.since we were a mere 702 miles over our factory warranty, the dealership told us we would have to schedule an appointment, and the next opening would be in 8 days.instead,we were able to find a local mechanic shop, and in a matter of minutes the mechanic found the cause of the stalling to be a wire that plugs into the coil pack.he called the gm dealership for a replacement, and was told it would have to be ordered from the manufacturer and it would take a week or more to arrive.the mechanic told us the factory wire was not necessary,he could simply splice into the wire to fix our problem.since staying an additional week was not an option, we agreed to have the mechanic fix the wire by splicing it.we began to experience similar stalling 10,000 miles later.there are 2 wires that enter the same clip then plugs into the coil.the cause of stalling the second time was the wire opposite of the one replaced before.this leads me to believe that there may be a defect in the coil itself, or merely low-quality wires installed by gm.

This is a failure of all autos. Why not require all auto makers to hook up cars lights to their windshield wipers? that way if wipers are on lights are on.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that the door ajar safety alarm and the seat belt alarm chime failed. The contact indicated that while the door was opened while the vehicle was in motion but the chime did not activate . Additionally, the chime did not sound when the seat belts were not secured while the vehicle was in motion. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 75,000.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated the wiring harness connected to the blower motor became hot and began to melt.a private mechanic repaired the resistor in october 2008; however, the failure occurred again.in january 2011, the contact had the wiring harness and the resistor qa replaced by a private mechanic since he smelled a burning odor and had to disconnect the wiring harness in order to protect it from melting. The dealer nor manufacturer were notified. The current mileage was 119,000. The approximate failure was 80,000.the vin was unavailable.

Heater blower connector fire.

Air blows cold on driver side and extremely hot on drivers side with dual controls both set to cool. Seems to be a very common problem according to many people on the following website and unable to be fixed by dealers.http://autoforum.classifieds1000.com/chevrolet-silverado_1500_pickup/dual_ac_blows_cold_air_on_passenger_but_hot_on_driver.

The brake lines and fuel lines rusty to the point that they are leaking need to be replaced.the blend motor for hvac isn't working right.

Speedometer fails to register actual speed of driving -- will show 120 when driving 70, 90 mph when driving 30mph, 15 mph when stopped at a light.makes highway driving hazardous because i am prone to driving slower than traffic.also concerns about accuracy of the odometer because of this problem.

This truck has experienced two fuse block failures since new. The symptom, in both cases, was the truck would not start. Both repairs were accomplished at brown and brown chevrolet in mesa arizona. The first repair occurred in 2008 and the second repair occurred in 2012. When reimbursement was requested for the second failure, the brown and brown service person and the gm customer care person both denied warranty coverage because there are third-party devices installed in the vehicle. There is an alarm system and a kenwood stereo, with a gm module, installed that were deemed third-party. There is also a cb radio but it was not cited.all vehicle equipment is powered through fuses on the fuse block. None of the fuses were found to be blown by brown and brown, including the ones powering the third-party equipment. The fuse block?s intent is to distribute power to such devices and protect the wiring with its installed fuses. Properly connected equipment may blow a fuse but cannot stress the fuse block to failure.i requested the ?bad? fuse block in both cases and have disassembled the second one. I found loose power pins and no evidence of burning or arcing. The design permits the power pins to loosen over time, causing intermittent connections. This intermittent connection was verified by brown and brown; they said that simply leaning on the fuse block would cause the engine to stop. This is not an effect of third party equipment but is a design defect of the fuse block.

For quite some time, our 2005 chevrolet silverado wouldhave an odor and the #5 position on the fan for heater would stop working, then start again.recently it completely stopped at all levels. We can no longer circulate heat or ac in the vehicle. We checked the blower motor resistor unit, it had melted and also melted the wiring harness up under the dash.we now have to replace both units at great expense to us., not to mention this couldhave caused a fire...we usually have some grandchildren strapped in car seats...which would have been quite dangerous to them, had it caught on fire.this has been going on for some time, not just the mileage indicated.

Speedometer stopped functioning.it displays i'm driving @ 120 mph and gets stuck there, when i'm only going approximately 30-40 mph.this is ridiculous that there is no recall on this malfunction as i see there are plenty of compliants with same issue. How can i drive safely without knowing the speed limit i'm going.

My speedometer reads about 20 mph faster than i'm actually driving, and reads 20 -25 mph when at a dead stop. I know this was a warranty fixable item on the 03 and 04 models, why not on the 05's?

Speedometer not showing correct speed.

While driving normally i noticed my speedometer giving erroneous readings as high as 120 mph, and upon stopping, the speedometer stayed at the 35 mph. Position. After a few days, it returned to normal. Occasionally, the speedometer does not work for days at a time. I feel it is dangerous driving with a speedometer which is not reliable. Gm has refused to fix the problem and told me i am fully responsible for all parts and labor costs because my vehicle is out of warranty. Now, the volt-meter also does not work and the needle points down at a "6 o clock" position which is off the chart. This has been broken for several weeks now.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado. When the contact started the vehicle he noticed that the speedometer increased to120 mph and would not move regardless of the speed that he was driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was informed that the instrument cluster needed to be replaced. There were no prior warnings. The current and failure mileages were 90000. Updated 02/17/10. *ljthe consumer stated the speedometer doesn't work. The needle is stuck on 120 mph. Updated 02/17/10.

First time we have taken the vehicle on a long trip.after 500 miles on the road, speedometer topped out at 120 mph (even though we had cruise set at 65).even when we were at a complete stop, speedometer read 65 mph.after a couple of days it worked fine, week later when we were returning from the trip same thing occurred.we took it to the chevy dealer and they said it was a problem with the cluster and they ordered the part.we will take it in tomorrow to have the part replaced.our vehicle only has 37,000 miles, we do have platinum warranty on it, but still will have to pay $200.00 fee.service tech says chevy has already had recall on 2002 and 2003, just wanted to report the problem is still there.

2005 chevrolet 2500hd speedometer went out it was showing the wrong speeds, got stuck at 120mph the wouldn't go below 70mph. Very unsafe, chevy should recall the dash cluster, i mean come on...$55,000 dollars should at least get you a working speedo...

The dashboard cluster went out, speed odometer stuck on 60mph. Had to race motor up until it red line returned to 0.the entire electrical board stopped working, found out was a recall but my vin was not included. Spoke to autry morlan dealership several times. We paid out of pocket to have replaced and that cluster has done same thing.still no recall on our truck.will cost another 200-300 to fix out of pocket. Gas gauge does not work, speed odometer does not work. Rpm will work and that is how we judge our speed on truck.

The instrument cluster went out and reset my engine hours, odometer is error, and won't change anything.i took it to the dealer and they said about $600 to fix.there is alot of problems with these and they should be fixed for free.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado.while driving approximately 5 mph, the speedometer indicated that the vehicle was traveling 110 mph.the speedometer fails to display the correct speed.the vehicle has not been diagnosed by a dealer.the current and failure mileages were 65,000.

Speedometer does not read accurate. It either reads 15 mph at highway speeds, or goes way high such as 120 mph at 55 to 60 mph. Sometimes at the higher reading, it will read 60 mph when vehicle is stopped, in park, and ignition off. I was told this is a stepping motor but hard to change and expensive to change. I have read that there was a class action lawsuit that was never brought up.

Speedometer started sticking at 60mph and then if the truck was restarted it would go back to 0 and start working again and then would stick again later. Well now it's just stuck at 0 and doesn't move at all. All the other gauges work properly though.

Speedometer inoperative. Everytime the vehicle is driven i have no way of telling how fast i am traveling.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado. When driving the vehicle the contact noticed that the speedometer would display a speed of 120 mph when the contact was actually traveling at a speed of 45 mph. The dealership was contacted and stated that there were no recalls on his vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired at the time of complaint. The failure and current mileages were 90000. Updated 07/19/10updated 07/21/10.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado. When the contact drove the vehicle at various speeds, she noticed that the dashboard panel failed to operate properly. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealership and there were no prior warnings. The current and failure mileages were 115000.

2005 chevrolet silverado speedometer malfunction. Speedometer shows 120 mph regardless of whether vehicle is stopped or moving. Gm has recalled 2003 and 2004 models but refuses to include 2005 models. My local dealer quoted $700 for the repair.

Speedometer stuck at 45mph at a stop, while on the highway in a 65-70mph zone the speedometer increase to 110-120mph.

The speedometer one morning just went to 110 mph when i was driving 55 and then stayed.it would work one minute and then not the next.finally after two days it stayed at 160.there was no way to drive it and tell what speed i was going.i have received a speeding ticket recently and wonder if the speedometer was malfunctioning then.the failure speedometer was 63,000 just 2,000 out of warranty.i went to the dealer who showed me the special bulletin on the 03 and 04 but since mine was an 05 i had to pay $501.30 to have it repaired.i placed an incident w/ gm who had the guts to tell me that there was not an instrument panel failure on the 05 (kinda funny since i have a 05 that failed) and that since my vehicle was not an 03 or 04 that it couldn't be happening.even though the dealership that fixed it knew right away the problem and admitted i wasn't the first 05 he had seen. The entire instrument cluster was replaced.

I purchased a new 2005 chevrolet silverado worktruck in april of 2005. Approximately 6 weeks ago the speedometer started showing intermittent speeds not consistent with actual speed. Sometimes it would show zero mph when traveling at street or freeway speeds, sometimes showing less than or greater than perceived actual speeds, and currently for the last three days has stayed at zero regardless of any moving speed. The truck has 38,000 miles as shown by the odometer. I have not experienced/seen any problems with any other instruments as yet.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado.the contact stated that the speedometer works intermittently.it usually fails to operate when driving 65 mph and greater.he spoke with the dealer and they stated that the speedometer needed to be replaced.the current mileage was 47,488 and failure mileage was 38,480.

Speedometer had started to stick but now it doesn't work at all..no matter how fast i may be going speedometer reads "0". Its been like this for a couple months but i haven't had the money to fix it. I've been using my gps system to gauge mph. Has this been addressed yet??

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado.while driving approximately 60 mph, the speedometer displayed 20 mph.the vehicle was not inspected by a dealer; however, a mechanic advised him to replace the instrument cluster.no repairs were made.the current and failure mileages were 58,800.updated 02-25-08

2005 chevrolet silverado speedometer going crazy.jumping from 0-180 mphgetting stuck on different mph.should be a recall notice.

The speedometer on my 2005 silverado is bad. I have 73,000 miles on it and have never driven so fast in my life. It started in may of 2009 and it corrected itself now we are facing the same issue. When reading up on this i find i am not the only one who is having this issue. Driving aprox.30 but it says 120.

The speedometer on my 2005 chevy silverado does not accurately display the speed of the vehicle. It may read anywhere from 0 to 120 mph regardless of the actual speed of the vehicle.i first became aware of the inaccurate readings while driving on the expressway at an indicated 72 mph.i noticed that i was passing the few other vehicles on the road and because of the speed at which i was doing so i checked the speed reading on my gps and found that i was doing almost 100 mph.this a safety issue.i am also aware of several other general motors trucks of the same year with the same problem.and also that the 2003 and 2004 gm truck have the same problem with the identical part for which gm has instituted a customer satisfaction recall.

First the oil pressure gauge stop working, about two months ago.fluctuates now, up and down.speedometer does not work now.started out by reading around 45 miles per hour when sitting at a dead stop.then stay stayed at 110 miles and hour while driving at any speed.does not work.

Speedometer pegs at 45mph and intermittently works.

I am registering this complaint because it is a safety issue.i own a 2005 chevy silverado with 15,000 miles with brake lights which frequently fail to function.i checked the problem myself and found there was a connection issue.when it continued to occur i took the truck back to the dealer (11/15/07) requesting a different design which i believe is the only way to correct this problem.they lubed the sockets with dielectric grease and they are already out again.they told me they had no other design to fix this problem.when my brake lights fail to work, unless someone alerts me, i am unaware of this issue.is this something which can be corrected?it truly is a safety issue.

Dash lights go out while driving down the road have to push on dashboard to make them come back concerned that this may be a fire hazard

I went to slow to make turn and brakes went to the floor suddenly so i used emergency brake to stop. I believe all lines will need to be replaced as other look as rusty. Rust has been an issue for last 2 years with rotors needing replace then bearings in front rusted and anti-lock brake light would come on and pedal would surge. This is the worse chevy truck i ever bought as even seeing rust already in lower panels and entire frame. Looks bad for only 53,474 miles.

Had to add coolant over a time.....no evidence of a leak on my driveway or any other place. Started truck one morning and heard clicking noise coming from engine. I observed water coming from the muffler. Took vehicle to dealer on april 22, 2014. ( mileage 84241)dealer found blown head gasket and seals, one cracked head and water in oil. Repairs done: complete valve job (replace head gasket, seals & other associated parts), replace broken bolts, replace coolant hoses, radiator & heater hoses and thermostat etc.. Was not advised by service consultant of any recalls or bulletins for 2005 silverado. This is low mileage for this kind of engine problem.repair cost: $3683.92martin chevrolet *** torrance, calif.

The low coolant light went on.the only way to fill the system is to open the reservoir cap.unfortunately because the engine had a head gasket failure the cooling system would not depressurize, even when cold.it seems to me that there should be a pressure cap that when the engine overheats it allows the cooling system to depressurize.this closed system is very dangerous especially when someone who is used to filling the overflow tank when the coolant is low.because the lack of an over flow tank anyone that opens the plastic reservoir could became burned.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that while driving at 70 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated. Parked truck at outside stall and went indoors.after about 20 minutes i heard noises and went outside.found the whole truck was engulfed in flames.by the time the fire department arrived 6 minutes later the fire spread to two additional vehicles.the heat melted and consumed everything except the frame.the fire investigator suspects the fire initiated due to electrical failure and generated from either the driver side dash board or left side of engine.the damage was too destructive to pinpoint exact cause.

This is the second time it has happend, my exhaust manifold bolt breaks.

In june, 2011, i began noticing my antifreeze levels were dropping slightly. There were no noticeable leaks of antifreeze anywhere.i attributed it to evaporation & added coolant. Over time the truck started using more & more antifreeze. A friend of mine noticed a puff of white smoke coming from the tailpipe. At the time i didn't really think anything of it. Last week while driving home from work after finishing up a "b" trick job (11pm), i noticed a knocking sound coming from the engine. It smoothed out after a few miles of driving it. The next day it happened again ( i work 26 miles from home) again it smoothed out & i was just grateful i got home safely that night. By this time i knew there were some serious issues & decided not to drive it again. I began researching the issue on line & found others that were experiencing identical symptoms. Turns out the problem lies with the cylinder heads in the engine manufactured for gm by castech. According to other people & by gms own admission, a faulty, weak material was used to build the cylinder heads. Over time the material wears away causing porous cracks & the antifreeze seeps into the oil system polluting it, causing significant damage to the engine. (by this time most extended warranties are up). The antifreeze mixes with the oil & is emitted out of the tailpipe as exhaust. This is why no traces of antifreeze were found & the reason for the white puff of smoke. Gm issued a bulletin #06-06-01-019b in june 2007 informing repair technicians on where to look for the damage. Through other peoples experiences, i am finding the engines were ruined in 90% of the cases & gm claims no responsibility. In my case i am driving a friend's vehicle waiting on word from my mechanic as to my options. These repairs are costly. Up to $5000!! this is not from normal wear & tear this is a manufacturing defect & i feel a recall should be issued.

Vehicle quits running and may restart after 10 minutes or may not. It shuts off at any speed and at red lights. When on a hill it will roll back into whatever is behind. This vehicle has been to the dealer 6 times and they can find nothing wrong. Sometimes there is power to the dash and lights, other times the dash goes dark as if there was no power at all.

Vehicle quits running anytime, brakes and steering "hard", dead batterylike symptom and will not start or restart after quitting.

Dt*:the contact stated the vehicle stalls at any speed without warning.the vehicle was taken to the dealership several times.the level sensor, fuel injection wiring harness, the direct fuel injection driver, the fuel tank, and the fuel tank module have been replaced.the sender pump assembly was replaced twice.after the last replacement the check engine light illuminated and the dealer could not determine the cause of the problem.

Truck has 14000 miles, it has constant over heating problems while towing my 8k travel trailer. I have talked with the chevrolet dealer about it, they told me that they were aware of the problem but at this time have no fix. I call stupid because i heard online that the 06 models have revised cooling systems and a larger turbo charger. My belief is the fix is to much $$ and they will only take care of the few people that tow and have issues. I have notice a lot of information on the net about 04.5 and 05 lly duramax truck that tow over 10000 have this issue but my travel trailer fully loaded only weighs under 9k. The major down side is the trucks inability to maintain the speed limit due to the overheating water temperature and the power loss formed a cooling fan that runs hyperspeeds no stop when towing.my towing has been done at low outside temperatures ranging for 75 to 85 degrees outside.this truck is not performing as advertised or supposed to be designed for.

I began to have trouble with my light bulbs.when i tried to change bulb i found evidence of poor connection with the plastic of the bulb and of the socket somewhat burned.the filaments of the bulbs were ok.a friend of mine advised me to coat the connection with silicone grease.recently a virginia state trooper stopped me for two bulbs not functioning.same problem.luckily he waited while i removed the assembly and, yes, the bulbs were fine but not making good contact.he explained that he also has a chevrolet truck and has the same problem.a former employee of gm in aiken ga told me that gm was supposed to apply this grease to electrical contacts but failed to do so.this is a safety problem or the trooper would not have stopped me!

The truck has 110k miles on the duramax / allison drive train. The diesel fuel injection pump failed unexpectedly and without warning. This powertrain combination should be capable of 500k miles without problems like this.this pump should not fail after normal use in only 110k miles. Nothing but excuses and other not possible reasons for the poor engineering and manufacturing exhibited in their product. They said the methanol water injection system caused the fuel injection pump to fail. Methanol (non caustic fluid) is injected air side of the engine and does not mix with the injected fuel until the engine cylinder. The fuel injection pump supplies fuel to the individual injectors that then in turn supplies the high pressure fuel to the cylinders.if this condition was to happen on the road pulling a trailer / heavy load in hills or other confined roadways people could be injured or killed by the sudden loss of power and control. Gm business practices are going to continue to kill and hurt people.

Vehicle diesel system has a problem transferring fuel into the truck for use.it runs out while the front fuel tankis still full of fuel.the fuel tank never reads over half full.it is being towed for the second time during the month of july.it will be in the dealership shop for the 3rd time since purchased, 2nd time this month.we are told they do not know what to do, since they cannot figure out the problem.we are currently waiting for a service bulletin.this truck is our only work truck and a car loaner does not help with the towing of our mini.

I was entering my driveway and began to brake going downhill, the brake pedal sudden "went to the floor" (brake line had ruptured due to corrosion).after taking truck to mechanic, i learned all my brake lines were serverely corroded and had to be replaced - fuel lines as well.repairs totaled $2185.i owned several other make pickups, drivenunder the same conditions and have never experienced any problem with either brake or fuel lines.

It started with fuel guage failure severel times. I was told to bring the truck by and they would reset the computer until a bullitin from the manufacturer came out. The truck broke down away from home then they had a bullitin and made the repairs. Truck breaks down again kansas service manager said they had lots of problems with this fuel system. Driving trusting the fuel gauge since truck is fairly new.got on the freeway with 3/4 left on fuel. Long stretch through mountains. When i got to 1/2 tank truck started pulling and turned off.no cell phone service to call roadside. Waited for about 3 hours untilhighway patrolshowed up and called roadside.when tank was filled up all the way needle marker was way over the "f".i then read an article on www.dieselplace.com similar problem on other trucks. It said to pull the fuse out for the gauges for 30 seconds and then put it back on and it fixed the problem.

The brake lines and fuel lines rusty to the point that they are leaking need to be replaced.the blend motor for hvac isn't working right.

Fuel evap system malfunctioning not allowing fuel system to vent thus making it almost impossible to refuel the vehicle.this also results in a check engine light to occur. The dealership found a bulletin on this problem: dtc p0446 (restricted/blocked evap vent path) set, check engine light on (replace evaporative emission (evap) vent valve solenoid assembly and add/relocate filter box using service kit).this seems to be a common and recurring issue and the repair is to not only replace the part, but change the existing design of the system.why is this not a recall where the manufacturer fixes the problem since it is obviously an engineering problem?i have read many blogs that include almost new vehicles with this same problem.

Consumer requesting the automatic door locks be deactivated for the safety of passengers in case of an emergency. ***no answer required***

I have serious concerns about the interior door handles on the 2005 chevrolet silverado pu trucks. The location and general shape of these handles make them very easy to accidently open while vehicle is moving. This vehicle is equipped with auto locks , however, these safety locks don't seem to always function. There are certain situations when a door can be unlocked and the automatic locks does notrelock.y wife was injured on the incident date. She had removed her seat belt to retrieve items from floorboard when her purse strap snagged on door handle and caused the door to open. She fell from a vehicle moving at approximately 35-40 mph. She suffered a closed head injury and clavicle fracture.

I was driving home from work which is 1.5 miles, when i heard a thumping sound, and it seemed as if my rear wheels were not turning.i had a friend tow it to the dealer cox chevrolet in bradenton, fl, and they told me, that the rear end (spider gears, and bearings) were needing replacing but are not part of the power train so it was not covered under warranty, and it would cost me $2600. I had him tow it again to a local transmission shop andthey told me it was common in that year of chevy trucks.i also needed both clutches replaced in each rear wheel, cost was well under the dealers charge.the owner of the transmission shop informed me that he has replaced a couple 100 of these and there should be a recall on them.i could have been in an accident when the wheels locked.

2005 z71 silverado pickup makes a loud noise and moves in a forward or backward motion when starting the vehicle after it has sat over night.

The 4 wheel drive buttons fail to work every so often.i was coming home from ann arbor, mi. One night and my indicator light said i was in neutral for some reason.i played with it for a bit and no luck.my friend was with me and he owns a repair facility in south lyon, mi.he knew what was wrong!the encoder motor for the transfer case is bad.it is an electric item and fails.the encoder motor is what shifts in to 4 hi, 4 low, auto 4 wheel and 2 hi.this happened again toward the end of feb 2010 when my truck would not shift at all, 2 hi was my only option.another friend of mine has a 2004 silverado and her encoder motor went bad on the freeway.her problem was that her truck threw her into 4 low while she was at 70 mph.omg is that safe????gm needs to do something before people start to crash or worse getting hurt and dyeing as a result.

2005 chevrolet silverado.consumer writes in regards to transmission problem and requests vehicle recall information. The consumer stated the push button 4-wheel drive button has never worked properly.

This is problem(s) that has been intermittent for a couple a years shortly after i purchased the vehicle but did not mention anything because it was so intermittent....first the illumination level seemed to dim every once in a while for many areas such as the gear (prnd), the speedometer, the temp control levels. Next the speedometer did not reflect correct speed sometimes even when you were parked. These symptoms were initially intermittent but now are more predominant. Now this at times is a real problem and even a safety issue.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado. While parked, the contact noticed that the gear indicator was extremely dim and was difficult to see which gear the vehicle was in. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostics where the mechanic advised the contact that the instrument cluster would have to be reprogrammed.the contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number: 05v055000 (power train:manual transmission:shift pattern indicator) but was advised by the manufacturer was that the vin was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000.

4 wheel drive automatic shift to take the 4 wheel drive in and out messed up had to change the servo out.the other issue is the bearing hub for the front wheel hubs 4 wheel drive has a defect i have had these hubs changed out 3 times at a very costly price.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that the gear position indicator lighting failed to illuminate. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The dealer was contacted and stated that the vin was not included in the manufacturer's recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

I have a '05 chevrolet silverado, i recently discovered that when the key in the ignition is turned to the accessory position (one turn with the vehicle off), the vehicle will be able to shift out of the parked position without applying the brake. I have taken it to the chevrolet dealer they say that is how it is supposed to be. Not only my truck did it, my friends '03 ford f-350 also does it too! i am not sure if all vehicles are designed like that or not. When the vehicles key is in the run position with the vehicle off, you have to push down the brake pedal before you can shift out of park. The whole idea i thought was to prevent a young child from shifting a vehicle out of park and roll into traffic! the way my truck, and possibility a whole lot more was designed, a child would have a 50-50 chance of turning the key just one time, and that could lead to a catastrophe.

Last feb. Purchased a new silverado truck. Gm replaced the transmission at 480 miles. Ever since then i have had a vibration in the rear. I have had the truck to the shop on several occasions. The problem is intermittent and they can't locate the problem whenever i take it in. The problem is most common at speeds of 65-70 mph. The vibration is so bad that the mirrors rattle. Also lately, i have a different vibration (also intermittently) at slower speeds while going up hills. Dealer also unable to diagnose unless the problem occurs while they have the truck.

Automatic transmission at times hesitates before engaging when accelerator is pushed.it has happened numerous times - the last being the date listed below.

The transmission slips upon acceleration. The transmission will slip when crossing an intersection, making the vehicle volurnable to be hit. The rpm's rise while the vehicle is in drive and the vehicle comes to an almost stand still. This has happened a few times but no accident occered. The vehicle's transmission slipped while crossing a 4 lane divided highway with traffic flowing at 65mph. No accident occered and the transmission engaged before an accident could occered. Gm has been contacted many times with no response to fixing the problem. Gm wants to duplicate the problem before fixing, and telling me no service can be done at this time. Gm wants me to drive the vehicle even though they are aware of this safety hazzard and putting me and my family at risk on the highways.

1. Driven vehicle for 5,600 miles, no special events2. While in reverse, vehicle accelerates and decelerates without pushing on the accelerator pedal.3. Computer replaced after we refused to drive, gm said vehicle was safe to drive.

Transmission failure at 53,000 miles.vehicle engine runs high rpm but fails to shift, especially from 2nd to 3rd gear.dealer says it will have to be replaced.the problem is dangerous, especially in city traffic where trying to negotiate at traffic light is a hit or miss proposition.

I noticed a month after purchasing my 2005 silverado z71 extended cab that if the key was turned to the 'acc' position, this disables the lock that requires the brake pedal to be depressed fully to shift the vehicle out of 'park'. I brought this to the attention of friedns and family who have gm trucks and suv's. All these vehicles (2004-2005) do the exact same thing. I took my concern to web forums. Though members thought i was nuts, they tried this on their vehicles and the same thing happens. It seems to be vehicles that have changed the acc location on the ignition. The acc location used to be turned back toward the driver, but now it is one click toward the dash now. This info is not in the owners manual. If parked on any incline and the vehicle is knocked out of gear you would have difficult time braking or steering.

Truck bounces. Gm replaced with same results. Replaced with aftermarket monroe gas magnums which helped some. Suspension is still weak. Transmission slips while driving. Informed dealer who said transmission guy was not in that day. Will contact the dealer again.

In feb. 2005, bought a new chevy. Silverado hd truck. 6 days later while 90 miles from home, transmission burned out of truck. Unable to go faster than 35 mph, smoke rolling out of rear. Transmission slipping while this going on. Parked near a gas station to call roadside assistance, absolutely no help what-so-ever. This was at 6:30pm and they couldn't locate a tow truck.11 days later i got my truck returned with a new transmission(gm refused to give me a new one)

I bought a new 2005 chevrolet silverado in may of 2005.a few weeks after owning my truck, and with less than 1,000 miles on it, i noticed the auto transmission would slip.it would only occur when i was accelerating from a stop.basically, i would give the truck gas and the engine would rev up to about 2,000 rpm's, without the vehicle moving, and then it would all of the sudden make a loud thud sound and then lurch forward, as if it was not in gear and then all or the sudden put into drive.this can't be good for the transmission of the engine.i called the chevrolet dealership and asked them if i brought my truck in if they could look at it and they said they would, but if they could not duplicate the problem or if there was not any check engine light on they would not be able to diagnose the problem to fix it.the slipping of my transmission has occurred about a dozen times.the problem is it works fine most of the time except when it slips.so i have no idea when it will happen.i could stop and accelerate 100 times and it won't slip.then just out of the blue it will decide to slip, and make that terrible banging thud of the transmission engagement.i hope that chevrolet finds out what this problem is and fixes it so i don't have to replace a transmission after my warranty ends after 3 years or 36,000 miles. Not to mention the safety hazard if i had to accelerate to get across traffic and my trucks transmission hesitated and i got into an accident of it.

2005 silverado hybrid engine turns off at stops when brake is applied.the hybrid turns engine off at stops when brake is applied.the consumer feels that it takes too long for the engine to pick up power after taking foot off the brake and applying the accelerator.the consumer feels that the delay is dangerous when trying to enter fast moving traffic from a stop.while stopped on an incline vehicle rolls backwards while the consumer's foot is in transition from the brake to the accelerator pedal.

As the brakes where beeing applied to make a stop the vehicle a 2005 chevrolet silverado, started to rev high when idling intermittently.

Driving back to work from lunch on busy 4 lane highway, brake pedal went to floor.narrowly avoided a collision at a red light.put flashers on, lowered the gear selector, and used combo of minimal brake pedal and e brake to make it back to the parking lot at work.upon inspection, large puddle of brake fluid on driver side near gas tank.large leak in highly corroded brake line.all brake lines in similar condition and are currently being replaced in the shop.transmission lines and fuel line are in similar highly corroded condition.

Hello, i have a 2005 chevy silverado with 76,000 miles on it, the problem is with the gear selector illumination in the dash gauge cluster i can not tell what gear it is in unless it is very cloudy or dark, i am worried that the truck could put it in reverse instead of drive or vise versa.

At 30 mph in 4 wheel drive, on a snowpacked road, something in the front differential broke and caused the front end to lock up.this sent the vehicle into an uncontrollabe slide into the ditch.fortunately there were no obstacles to collide with.vehicle would not operate in 4 wheel drive but would operate in 2 wheel drive.had this happened at 50 mph on a mountain road, deaths would have occured.it is time that general motors deals with this problem.

10/28/06despite fully depressing the clutch to shift gears, this vehicle locks in a gear or cannot be shifted into, or out of gear.on several occasions it locked up in traffic while the truck was in motion.03/10/07one extreme instance occurred in dallas on a busy interstate section march 3rd while astrud was driving. A very frightening experience for her, the truck stuck in gear at 50 mph. This vehicle is so unsafe that the state of texas dps should be notified. 11/06/07it appears as if the automatic clutch adjustment is not working correctly, i.e. From one gear change to the next the pedal can suddenly move the ?engage gear point? almost half of its travel, and it continues to lock in lower gears and reverse as it has done since new.11/9/2007gunn chevrolet called us yesterday to let us know they had found the fault and were awaiting parts to complete the repair. On calling there today, mr. Ray informed me that the truck is repaired and ready for us to collect. 11/10/07called chevrolet warranty office to update their records on the case and the assistant, vernon frost, is updating their records as well as contacting the repairing agent, gunn chevrolet.he gave us a new case number, gm file no 71-573580741gunn's mr. Ray zamora stated to mr vernon frost of chevrolet that a defective thrust plate? caused the problem and while not a misuse issue, it is a rare occurrence.11/9/2007on his re-turn call to me mr frost offered a free service for the truck ? when due ? at any chevrolet dealership we select as a compensation for two and a half years of suffering this lemon transmission. I replied that if he would send to me in the mail a letter with that offer then i would with the help of a qualified consumer councilor decide what was fair and reasonable in this unusual situation.

Found there was no grease in the rear end. Which caused the differential to become inoperable. It was completely worn. Which caused the rear wheels to spin. The shock absorbers had completely failed. Please provide any further information.

My 2005 chevrolet silverado has a manual transmission. When i change gears it makes a clanking sound and it sounds like there lot of slack in the transmission. It just has 680 miles.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado. The contact was driving approximately 60 mph when the gear indicator lights failed. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for repairs or diagnosis. The contact stated there was a recall (nhtsa campaign id number: 05v055000-power train:manual transmission:shift pattern indicator)but the manufacturer informed the contact that his vehicle was not included in the recall. The approximate failure mileage was 72,000.

Failure of the 4 x 4 control module and automatic transmission shift motor. While driving the transfer case shifted into neutral, pressing the 2hi button caused the transfer case to lock up. The truck was shut off while driving on the freeway and was dead steered to the shoulder. Complete replacement of both module and motor replaced $1972.00 dollars, truck only had 58,237 mi.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 20 mph on a country road, the vehicle fishtailed causing it to crash into an embankment.the lap part of the seatbelt held however, the shoulder portion failed to hold.the contact sustained minor injuries and a police report was taken.the vehicle was towed to the dealer for repairs due to the crash however, the dealer was not contacted about the seatbelt.

2005 gm standard cab pick up trucks do not have the lower anchors in the passenger seat.

Dt: the contact stated the driver's power adjusted seatmalfunctioned. When exiting the vehicle the seat was sliding forward instead of backward to let the driver out of the vehicle. The vehicle has been taken to the dealership for inspection three times. On the third time the dealer unplugged the seat. The manufacturer was contacted ,and they were in touch with the dealership. The dealer and the manufacturerconcludedthat the seat was performing correctly. However, at this time, the dealer left the seat unplugged since they could not repair it.

Easy exit and keyless entry function on key fob do not operate 10 way power seat. On exit seat goes full back, but has to manually be repositioned to setting 1 or 2. Key fob 1 and 2 do not postion seat to pre-set positions 1 and 2. Dealer noted the computer information center does not (this year) have the question concerning options for activation of the easy exit button.therefore, it could be concluded there is a software issue in the computer program. I.e. If the user never selects one of the options for the easy exit/key fob programs, they may well be in the default mode (not activated)this issue has been reported to dealer and gm (case number opened).

While stopped at a red light i noticed that i had to push the brake pedal all the way to the floor in order to keep the truck from rolling forward.when i got to a friends house i noticed that there was fluid leaking from some rusted brake lines located on the drivers side of the truck.as i pressed the brakes fluid was running out at an accelerated pace.i took the vehicle to the dealer and they said that all of the brake lines needed to be replaced due to rusting.there have been numerous complaints online about rusted brake lines on full size gm trucks.i contacted gm but they said that this is no recall for my vehicle and the repair is going to cost me nearly $1800.i bought the truck brand new in 2005 and its a little disturbing that something like that would fail that way where all of the brake lines were rusted only after 9.5 years.if they would have broke suddenly they could have cause me to have an accident due to the fact that i wouldn't have been able to stop.

Brake pedal push to the floor, oil coming out onto the ground, brake lines rusted out in many places under the hood.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph and depressing the brakes, the brake pedal abnormally traveled to the floorboard. The contact applied the emergency brake. The contact crashed and rear ended another vehicle. A police report was filed. There were no injuries reported. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake lines were corroded and needed to be replaced. The contact stated that he was advised that the parts were on a national back order. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 102,000.

Brake lines rusted out. Truck failed to stop within a safe distance on the highway. Brake line gave out on the highway no warning at all. Just a soft, non functioning pedal. Luckily i was able to pull the truck over to the side of the road no accident.

Driving to work , car stops in frt of me an brakes went to floor , drove around on shoulder barely missed hitting car . Brake lines rusted so bad they failed , ive had trucks an cars all my life an have never seen lines on a vehicle this bad . Should be a recall on all chevys of this year.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that while the brake pedal depressed he noticed that the brake pedal fell to the floor board. The contact applied the emergency brake. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The mechanic stated that the front brake lines were corroded and would have to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 63,000.

I was driving and applied the brakes for a stoplight when i felt a sudden lack of resistance in the petal. No warning lights were activated at all. I pulled over and pumped the brakes a few times and no pressure was regained. I got out of the truck and noticed a puddle of brake fluid towards the rear. Upon further inspection all od the brake lines were rusted badly and one had ruptured. No warning lights ever came on during the whole ordeal. The truck is under 8 years old and all of the brake lines need to be replaced. Luckily i was not in traffic or traveling faster when this occurred. I have never seen more rust on a newer vehicle in my life. Obviously the rust is beyond cosmetic and has proven to be a hazard.

All brake lines are corroded.brakes failed while driving vehicle in traffic.all brake hard lines needed to be replaced.

Approaching a 4 way traffic signaled intersection when signal started to change to yellow. Decided to not proceed through intersection so applied brake pedal to stop. Pedal went directly to floor, brake dashboard light illuminated. Vehicle would not stop and proceeded through intersection, while vehicles to my right proceeded to move. I had no brakes at all. I maneuvered vehicle onto a parallel access road and vehicle eventually rolled to a stop. Upon inspection it was obvious that there was a failure of the braking system, as hydraulic fluid was on the road in the vicinity of the right front of the vehicle...only... I was always aware that i had some braking capacity when i had a brake failure. Following 8 days at a gm dealership and a bill for $2,000, the brake lines were replaced following the diagnosis "rusted/corroded brake lines". A complaint to gm has fallen on deaf ears.

Break lines corroded through to failure.the failure occurred just after exiting a highway.abs engaged due to icy conditions the next time i depressed the break peddle it went to the floor without the breaks engaging.to the best of my knowledge no warning light was present on the dashboard.the breaks failed while driving and resulted in me running a red light.luckily it was early in the morning and no accident occurred.

Sitting at burger king drive thru when brake pedal went to the floor.brake lines had ruptured due to corrosion.vehicle only 10 years old and 130,000 miles.had brakes checked often at service centers, no mention of problem.glad this didn't happen last month when i was barreling down the tennessee highway with a full load in the back of my truck.nhtsa and gm should be ashamed for allowing this to continue.i am sure people are dying due to this negligence and faulty materials being used.

The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph, he depressed the brake pedal but the brakes were hesitant to respond. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed corrosion and brake fluid leaking from the brake lines. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that the rear brake lines near the fuel take were completely covered with rust causing the vehicle to lose all of the brake fluid. The contact was driving 60 mph at the time of the failure. The brake pedal extended to the floor when the pedal was engaged. The contact had to shift the vehicle into a lower gear and use the emergency brake in order to drive the vehicle to the dealer. The dealer confirmed the brake lines rusted through in the rear. The failure and current mileage was 82,000.

I was driving south on i-95 on the new jersey turnpike and slowed due to traffic and brakes went to the floor. I pumped them several times and put on the emergency brake and luckily stopped before hitting anyone. I had my whole family in the car, wife, 4 kids as we were heading to maryland from connecticut to visit family for christmas. I pulled over and was able to stop again but the brakes never felt quite right again. I had warning list come on several times and had to keep adding brake fluid. When i inspected the leak it was under the drivers door right where the lines sit in their plastic hanger. I also noticed all the other lines were shot as well (as in rusted). This is my family car as i use it for work and every time we go out as a family as well as drive kids to school etc..... I am amazed at the corrosion level and am currently attempting to replace the line that is leaking, but just a small portion of it. After reading the complaints associated with this vehicle and brake line corrosion, i hope you do something! as thank goodness i am a careful and conscientious driver because if i was going any faster (faster than 35 mph on a 65 mph highway) i would have caused a crash. Suffice to say we had to use relatives cars to travel and then carefully plan the trip home with lots of brake fluid and constant stopping to avoid holiday season traffic. Not a good scenario!

These past couple of weeks the brakes are shaking when i go to stop.i have c hanged the front calipers since this is where it is happening since the calipers went bad so did the roters an pads so those needed to be changed also...which is money i don't have .....it worked for a total of 4 days then problem began again.please inform me of other issues and what can be done to resolve this problem especially since i drive this truck to earn a living for my family everyday.. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Rear steel brake line corroded and blew out causing brake failure. This has happened to four people i know. One of those people had a bad accident. All vehicles were chevy silverados.

I had a soft brake pedal on my 2005 silverado. I thought i had a bad master cylinder. I work at an audi dealership and i was bringing the vehicle to work to check it out. As i approached the driveway to work, the brake pedal went to the floor. I used the emergency brake to slow down and pull into, the driveway. We inspected the vehicle at work and found that a steel brake line under the drivers side that runs along the frame rail had a hole in it due to rust. I find this completely unacceptable that a steel brake line rust through. Chevrolet used a poor material on their brake lines. I have been in the automotive business for 31 years in connecticut ( yes, salt is used on the roads ) and have worked for ford, volvo, hummer and audi. I have never seen a brake line rust through. Chevrolet needs to fix this issue at their expense and not the consumers. The dealership wants $1500.00 to repair using the same brake lines. I have purchased stainless steel lines and will perform the repairs at my shop .

The brake pedal went completely to the floor when our friend tried to stop the vehicle.a brake line running on top of the frame behind the radiator had completely rusted thru, allowing all of the brake fluid to pump out of the system.all of the steel brake lines are extremely rusty and probably near failure.

Another driver notified us that our brake lights were not working.we stopped to check the situation and my wife applied the brakes as i checked the lights, which were not working.i then moved the truck about 50 yards and as i applied the brakes the pedal went to the floor.when i got out there was a puddle of brake fluid on the ground.the brake line had rusted out and when i applied pressure to stop, it gave out.i took the vehicle to a nearby dealer and they replaced all the brake lines due to the rust. Total cost $1050.this is a major safety issue. Luckily i was stopped when the failure occurred and no one was injured.if this had happened while moving in traffic the result could have been serious.

Brake line burst due to corrosion causing loss of rear brakes.i have since had three more brake lines (completely different lines) start to leak due to corrosion causing loss of rear brakes again and then front brakes.the brake lines are severely corroded which is unusual on a vehicle with low mileage and less than 10 years old.

Rear brake line appeared rusty and scaly, then when hit my brakes, the pedal went to the floor.i used emergency brake.i replaced rear brake line.all other lines appeared rusty and scaly.now, my front left brake line is beginning to weep; it's moist and it glistens with oil.i will have to replace it soon.all the other lines in the truck appear to be the same, rusty and scaly.i will no doubt have to continue to replace each line.

Frame is rotted, wont pass inspection, brake lines are also rotted had to replace twice.

Started truck placed foot on brake and pedal went to floor.brake fluid leakedall over the ground. Had vehicle towed to repair shop.brake line were totally rusted through. I drive the vehicle approximately once a week.it only has approximately 9700 miles on it.i am the only owner.the under carriage is also rusted.luckily it happen in my driveway rather than on the road.can provide a receipt for all new brakelines installed if needed.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the brakes failed completely and no warning indicators illuminated. The failure recurred once. The vehicle was taken to dealer. The technician deemed the vehicle was a total loss due to numerous issues that could not be repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 50,187.

Failure of braking system due to rusted brake lines, all lines need replacement. Upon attempting to stop the vehicle the brake pedal went to the floor, upon exiting the system was leaking brake fluid directly under the driver compartment.

During showing the vehicle for resale, the brake lines broke and leaked and there was no braking power to stop vehicle.fortunately this took place in a parking lot therefore we were able to control the situation.however we were about to enter a major roadway at 5pm rush weekday rush hour where a potential serious accident could have occurred.

The vehicles brakes are corroding and failed almost causing an accident on 2/09/2016 when the vehicle was in motion (at the intersection of il route 34 and wolfs crossing)

The brakes went out backing in to a driveway and all the fluid leaked on to the driveway and street. This could of been very serious if it happened on the highway coming home from picking up furniture. All the brake lines were rusted and had to be replaced?????? costly for us?

Brake pedal went to the floor without stopping the vehicle. Found the lines on the driver side below the door on top of the rail were corroded and had burst.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that while driving approximatley 35 mph, the contact depressed the brake pedal and there was a screeching noise. The vehicle failed to decelerate and the contact had to depress the brake pedal several times before the vehicle came to a stop. The failure recurred on several occasions. The vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14e036000 (service brake, air). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

Approaching a traffic light at the bottom of a steep graded highway, i noticed the brake pedal felt spungey and near the bottom the brake pedal went clear to the floor board. I was forced to leave the highway to prevent a rear end collision with the stopped vehicle in front of me resulting in no real damage to the vehicle itself. It could have been much worse. The brake lines (4 of them) have rusted out so much that they could not contain pressure of the fluid when applying the brake and bursted. My mechanic tells me this will be in excess of $600.00 to repair do to the cab having to be unbolted and lifted from the chassis to access the lines for replacing. He also tells me that many gm models, new and old have this problem with rusting brake lines. Gm is aware of these problems. Why has this not been addressed? why have these models not been recalled? subaru recently recalled over 660,000 vehicles for the same problem; #doingtherightthing. I am not at all happy about this.

Severe corrosion affected brake line. Pedal went to the floor and i went through intersection. Using my e-brake i was fortunate to stop and not hit anything. I fear if my 16 year old son, or my wife would not of fared so well in this situation. Now i had to absorb a 800.00 repair for new brake lines. Now 1.5 years later i need to replace fuel lines as well as transmission lines due to corrosion. My 16 year old drives this piece of junk, and now there is a safety issue with fuel lines. Fire!!!now need to incur additional repairs. Why no recall? this is a lawsuit in the making if there were to be an accident due to gm's irresponsibility. I will never buy a gm product again. Need a recall...[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Brake pedal went to floor. Brake line above gas tank ruptured.

The brake lines are very rusted and i am very concerned this can lead to a serious injury for myself or others.i know of many other owners of similar model trucks with the same problem.this is a very real safety threat and gm should repair under warranty as this is a serious defect.

Pedal goes on down when pressed -- seems like abs isn't working properly

Traveling through intersection and making left hand turn to go in east direction.my vehicle's brakes catastrophically failed.the mechanic said that all(!) the brakes lines were rusted through and that mybrake fluid leaked out. And now all of the brake lines will need to be replaced.not one, not two - all!there was no warning light and no indication of any problems prior to this incident.the only thing worse than a gm product with a faulty ignition switch would seem to be a gm truck that can't stop!

Backing-up into my garage in reverse mode, pressed the brake pedal and it went right to the floor.

Brake line broke. Brake lines are severely corroded. I lost my brakes while driving. The pedal went to the floor.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado. While having regular maintenance performed on the vehicle, the contact was notified that the brake lines were rusted. The brake lines were not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.

While doing an oil change on my 2005 pu i noticed enough buildup of rust on the brake lines that istopped driving the truck. I have had pu trucks (ford) since 1972 and never had an issue with brake lines although i had the trucks for 10 yrs. This is a serious issue of negligence of gm. I am 75 and never had this issue although i had cars and trucks (and motorcycles) since i was 16. I believe this is more serious than ignition switch. Thank you

While doing an oil change on my 2005 pu silverado i noticed large rust build up on the brake lines' this is not through neglect on my part, but is sufficient enough to cause serious concern. My son in law with chevy2002 had a similar problem when his brakes failed on a hill which caused me to check mine.this is extremely dangerous and gm should bear the recall expense. [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I was driving my truck into my driveway when i put my foot on brake pedal it went to floor , no warning. When i looked under vehicle brake line was leaking, very rusted.

While driving at 55 mph, i applied the brakes to come to a stop. The brakes began to slow the truck then the pedal went clear to the floor and all braking action was lost. This caused me to strike the vehicle in front of me. Afterwards i observed brake fluid dripping from the lines forward of the rear axle and near the firewall area. I was very lucky to escape injury to myself and the other driver that i struck. My truck sustained extensive damage to the front end. I have not gotten estimates for repairs yet.

The first incident occurred in august 2013.when backing up (at approximately 5 mph), i stepped on the brakes and the brakes failed.the brake line was replaced over the right side of the rear end housing.on october 3, 2013, another brake line failed causing the brake pedal to go to the floor of the truck.this time the brake line is on the left side of the frame under the driver's compartment.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that while driving 9 mph, the contact attempted to decelerate but stopping power greatly decreased. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis and was informed that the two front abs sensors had become corroded and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified but offered no assistance. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 15,669 and the current mileage was 65,500. The consumer stated the service did not come out until after the vehicle was out of warranty, therefore; the dealer and manufacturer refused assistance. Stopping distance was increased by at least 2 vehicle lengths.

Brake pedal went to floor as i pulled out of my drive.. So as i looked to see what it was, 1 brake line was leaking due to corrosion an split. Another line close to splitting. All 4 rusted bad.

The brake lines and fuel lines rusty to the point that they are leaking need to be replaced.the blend motor for hvac isn't working right.

Attempted to stop at stop sign and bake line between master cylinder and prop valve ruptured instantly draining brake fluid resulting in no braking.stopped vehicle with parking brake.upon inspection, determined that brake line had rusted out as a result of being mounted on top of frame rail where dirt, salt and moisture collect from front wheel spray.

While traveling at approx 30 mph, brakes were applied in anticipation of a red light.the brake pedal hesitated, then went to the floor.vehicle was stopped utilizing the emergency brake.upon further inspection, the brakes ruptured due to severe rust.currently being repaired at the dealer.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado. While driving at approximately 30 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and traveled to the floorboard. The contact had to take the vehicle out of gear in order to stop. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake lines were corroded as a result the pressure of the brake fluid caused the lines to fracture. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 107,000. The vin was not available.

Brake rotors are deeply pitted--not from rust--was unaware of the condition until i replaced brake pads @84000 miles.

Sudden loss of braking power due to brake line rupture while on the exit ramp of the freeway. Found brake lines completely rusted and they were paper thin in multiple spots. Will have to replace all brake lines on the vehicle. Almost lost control of the vehicle. Note that vehicle has always been maintained by dealership.

Brakes lines popped a leak below the drivers side door, which seems to be a common problem. I have never had brakes fail after only 9 years and only 31,942 miles. We purchased the truck new on 8-4-2005. I have a ford car that is a 2000 model year, and the lines still look good. We had 2 other ford cars in the past that had nearly 200,000 miles when we got rid of them, and they still had the same brakes lines, which looked good for being nearly 15 years old each. I know this is an important routine maintenance issue, but gm apparently put poor quality lines on various vehicles. We rarely drive it on salty roads in the winter, and when we do,we regularly do a undercarriage wash, which wasn't available when we had the 2 previous ford cars. It is very obvious the lines put on these vehicles are junk. They put on a exhaust that is supposed to last the life of the vehicle, but put on inferior brake lines which are a safety issue,go figure. After seeing how gm stonewalled and brushed off the ignition switch issue, and now this brake line issue, all i can say is i'm going back to a ford. I always do preventive maintenance, but these brake lines caught me way off guard. I have done a lot of brake lines over the years but none this soon. I am going to advertise this to any gm owner to check see if they have crappy brake lines.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph and depressing the brakes, the pedal abnormally traveled to the floorboard. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that the brake lines were corroded. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 95,000.

On our 2005 chevy silverado 2500 hd the abs system has been kicking in when coming to a stop and you almost hit the car in front of you.i have read a lot of issues with this and i have not seen a recall for this year of the chevy truck.the recall only stops at 2002 trucks.how many people have to be injured or killed before you guys decide to recall this year of the chevy truck????

Driving down highway road when several deer ran in front of vehicle.slammed on brakes and the pedal, after a few seconds, went to the floor.noticed big puddle of fluid the next day under cab of truck.started truck and had no brakes at all.had the truck inspected by local repair shop and was informed that all of the brake lines were rusty beyond the point of repair.had to have a whole new brake line kit installed.

The problem addressed in your nhtsa action number: pe05020 for earlier model years of the same truck are occurring in my 2005 truck.this has led to near rear-end collisions.the brakes go into an "anti-lock" condition at slow speeds while braking, no matter what the weather or road conditions are.you should extend the model years covered in your earlier recall to include all thru 2005 models and perhaps beyond or issue a new recall based on this and similar complaints from consumers.obviously gm did not fix the problem in follow on versions of the silverado.

Anti-lock brakes activitating @ 10 mph or less.

I reported that the vehicle did not seem to want to move from a stopped position.approximately three weeks later the problem repeated itself but with the service brake system lights coming on.

Antilock brake system engages at vehicle speeds of under 10 mph on dry conditions.i previously owned a 2001 chevrolet tahoe with the same problem.one would think that gm would correct this problem.vehicle has 13,000 miles, but is over 36 mo. Old, so is no longer covered under warranty.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado. While driving approximately 45 mph, the contact abnormally depressed the brake pedal into the floorboard. The contact was able to drive the vehicle home where it was inspected by an independent mechanic. The mechanic advised that there was excessive rust on the frame and the rear brake line was fractured. The rear brake line was replaced. The mechanic informed the contact that the other front brake lines were also rusted and could possibly fracture if not repaired. The vin was not available. The vehicle was not further repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.

Dt*: the contact stated the brakes on the vehicle are not working properly. When applying the brakes, the rear brakes do not work. The vehicle was taken to the dealership to determine what the problem. The dealership adjusted the rear brakes and explained the vehicle was repaired. After driving the vehicle for a period of time, it is experiencing the same problems with the brakes. The vehicle was taken in a second time for repairs to be made. At that time the drums were turned. The vehicle was driven again for a period of time, while still experiencing the same problems with the brakes. The vehicle was taken back a third time and at this time the dealership is unable to duplicate the problem.

I have a 2005 chev silverado truck where the abs system comes on at 15kms or less. This happens on matter the road condition, its started about 2 months ago. Now it comes on all the time, everytime i stop. What happens is that the abs comes on when below 15kms, scarely whne your not exspecting it. I reaseached this as to why or if theres any recalls. I found out the 1999-2002 chev silverado's had recalls on these vehilces for this problem. Problem is that it stated that it's caused from corrision in the hub, giving a wrong signal to the abs system.

Anti- lock brakes are activating on dry pavement at slow speeds.this happens 95% of all stoppings. When you think you will stop in 10-15 feet, it might take twice the distance as expected.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado.over a three week period, while driving 8 mph, the antilock brakes failed.the abs would lock up the pedals and cause the vehicle to vibrate.the repair cost $400.the current and failure mileages were 44,250.

The day the vehicle was purchased the consumer noticed that the check engine light on his 2005 chevrolet silverado had illuminated.the dealer reset the check engine light, however it illuminated again and the dealer stated it was a bad gas pressure sensor.4 months after owning the vehicle the vehicle started jerking and the consumer was unable to pass other motorist on the highway. The consumer managed to get to his destination when all of a sudden all of the lights on the dashboard lit up and the vehicle cut off.the dealer informed the consumer the abs sensor and crank positioning sensor were bad.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado. When the contact attempted to brake at a low speed the abs system activated causing the vehicle to stop. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer and there were no prior warnings. The current and failure mileages were 84120.updated 01/05/10the consumer stated the abs should not have activated on dry pay pavement under normal speed conditions. The failure was due to the abs sensor being moved out of alignment due to corrosion. Updated 01/07/10.

Anti-lock brakes activitating @ 10 mph or less.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado.while driving 20 mph, the abs failed to stop the vehicle.the contact almost struck a child.after finally stopping the vehicle, he took it to the dealer and they stated that the brake sensors failed.the dealer installed a temporary sensor to make sure that would remedy the failure.the manufacturer stated that they were not responsible for the repairs.he found a recall for the failure, but it did not include his model year.the contact believes that the design was never changed and the newer models have also been affected by this defect.the vehicle has not yet been permanently repaired.the the consumer stated the abs activated at a low speed and the pedal would go all the way to the floor. Updated 03/19/09

Vehicle at low speeds when brakes are applied can become hard to change direction of travel.

No accident yet, brakes feel weak and "spongy".

Complete failure of anti-lock braking system. New chevrolet silverado pickup truck with only 39,000 miles with no damage. Have heard that a large number of chevy cars and trucks are having this problem. The cost to fix the abs system is $800.00 this is a system that should not fail. It is a selling point on the vehicles and should be warranted for life of vehicle.

Upon attempting to back up from a parked position, an audible "pop" was heard by the vehicle operator and three bystanders. The vehicle then stopped motion after about five feet of travel as the right rear wheel was locked up. Upon visual on-the-spot inspection by company mechanic, it was obvious the casting attached to the axle end which acts as the support for both the brake caliper and the parking brake had "exploded" with a large piece shooting onto the ground and other pieces jamming up in the drum part of the rotor assembly causing the lock-up. Vehicle immovable, was flatbeded to the selling dealer. Repair was made by replacing all affected components with new, and we were billed even though vehicle was well with-in its original warranty based on service managers assumption that we (the operators) had somehow contributed to the failure. Telecom complaint to gm cust. Assistance, (file no, 1-299810112) returned same results. It is our contention that this critical part failed of its own accord either through defect or design, and that we were extremely lucky that this happened in our parking lot and not on a highway at 55 mph. Vehicle operator has lost confidence in the safety of this equipment without a valid explanation and corrective action to a permanent remedy.

2005 silverado ls extended cab: extreme heat with smoke billowing from the front disc brakes.extremely hot hubs left and right front. Proir to todays pre-fire conditons, i reported to the chevrolet dealer that the front brakes seem to "stick" while driving and were hot with a burning smell. (truck was purchased last month and has only 466 miles) intermittent hot hubs and burn smell, but no smoke. Today, reporting fire conditions with the extreme heat and billowing smoke. Left a message to the chevrolet dealer and will put in their shop tommorrow the 8th of april 2005.

Dt*: the contact stated about every 6,000-7,000 miles, when the pressure is applied to the brake, the front end shakes badly.the first three times the vehicle was taken to the dealership where the brake pads were resurfaced.the last time the front brake pads and rotors were replaced.the problem has recurred.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado. While driving at an unknown speed, the accelerator pedal extended to the floor and the brakes failed. After inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed that brake fluid was leaking from the driver side. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that all the brake lines needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 67,737.

Rear brakes; hanging up, the vehicle did not seem to want to mone from a stopped position. Three weeks later the service brake system light came on.the brake master cylinder was removed and replaced.

Dt: 2005 chevy c1500 half ton pickup t was placed in storage for about a month.this vehicle was never used and had only 13 miles on the speedometer when recieved from the dealer.this was a company vehicle, and whenout of storage it was discovered there was no brake fluid.the master cyclinder was completely dry.took to a dealer and dealer could not find any leaks.essentially ,they could not find the cause.

2005 silverado with brake problems customer states that this is a safety defect**ccthe consumer stated approached a stop sign and realized the brakes were not working properly and the power assist was not working.the consumer left the vehicle with the dealer for 2 days to assess the problem but to no avail. The consumer stated he took the vehicle to a dealer where he had previous work performed on the vehicle such as steering, but they were also unable to duplicate the problem.

Entering freeway as truck merged on freeway. Vehicle suddenly jerked to one side while turning steering wheel. After several people observed the vehicle we realized when you turned the steering wheel the brake locked up by themselves with no one touching them. If you turn the steering wheel the brakes apply very rapidly and / or lock up. I believe this to be extremely dangerous. We had tow truck pick up vehicle and deliver to chevrolet dealership. Left vehicle at dealership and they said they would repair the vehicle and repair the damage done to the vehicle in the accident at no charge. I informed the dealership that i thought this was a extremely dangerous condition. They all agreed and said thy had never seen or heard of this problem before. When i went to talk to them after fixing the vehicle the service representive pulled me to the side and told me he thought this was a extremely dangerous condition and did not believe the vehicle was safe to drive. He also let me know that there is a tsb on this problem and chevrolet is aware of the problem (tsb document id 1686251) . After talking over this mater with several mechanics they all agreed this was a extremely dangerous problem and could easily cause injury and / or death. What is amazing is chevrolet is aware of the problem and from what i can see the ntsb is also aware of the problem and nothing has been done. If i was in a turn on a overpass and the brakes suddenly applied from turning the steering wheel i assume this would cause a very serious accident. Please let me know the findings of your investigation as soon as possible due to the seriousness of the defect.

2005 chevrolet silverado experiencing problems with steering and brake equipment.***no answer required***.*mrwhen the consumers wife made left turn, she stated the steering and felt sluggish, she then noticed the brakes felt useless. She struggle for about 60 yards to keep the vehicle under control.the vehicle was towed to the dealer, however they were unable to rectify the problem, but the dealer did suggest that the flow control valve to the boost vacuum power in the brake and steering system be replaced.

Steering problemfreeplay of 1 1/2" or better at the steering wheel.a constant challenge to keep this truck between the lines in windy weather, and in heavy traffic. Dealer says they have changed part after part with no change. Now service manager says this is characteristic of the hydroboost steering system. Gm wont go past what this service manager is saying. Can you please help!!!

Dt*:the contact stated while driving various speeds, the vehicle rattled, knocked and the steering wheel had excessive play.the dealer replaced the short shaft on the steering mechanism, however the problem recurred.the intermediate shaft was replaced. Updated 02/27/07.

Very hard to steer at low rpm.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado. While driving approximately 25 mph, the contact noticed a clunking noise from the steering wheel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The mechanic advised that the intermediate steering shaft would have to be replaced. There was a recall under nhtsa campaign id number: 05v018000 (steering:gear box:shaft sector) that the contact believed was related to the failure. The manufacturer was contacted and advised that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 31,000.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated while driving over a bump in the road and turning the steering wheel the vehicle made a loud clanking sound. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 67,000.

Coming home after a night of bowling with a truck full of kids. I could feel and hear a grinding noise coming from the front end. I thought it was my brakes until i got back into town. When i hit the brakes and moved the steering wheel back and forth i could i knew it wasn't my brakes. I took the front tire off the next day and i could wiggle the wheel hub back and forth. Very dangerous. I feel lucky that nobody got hurt. The road i traveled home was hwy 32 and it has alot of curves. This should be addressed. Every chevy that has this problem should be notified. Im a back yard mechanic. I knew something was wrong. What happens with the single mother who knows nothing about this stuff. She's going to be lucky if she doesn't get in an accident or worse yet. Killed!

Clunking noise and vibration in steering wheel on 2005 chevy silverado.this happens every time you turn or hit a bump in the road.gm states that this is not considered a safety issue, however i disagree.any unexpected vibration or clunk in the steering mechanism while driving presents a dangerous situation.gm knows this to be a wide spread problem on a number of vehicles, however they continue to turn a blind eye.apparently the intermediate steering shaft is the center of the problem and gm needs to issue a recall on this part at once.so far nothing has been done to correct this issue on my vehicle and gm seems to be unwilling to work with me to attain corrective action.i sincerely hope that the nhtsa will require general motors to fix this problem before someone is seriously injured.

2005 duramax diesel, 2500:approximately 10 - 11,000 miles the steering shaft was causing problems.dealership only "lube kit" vs. Replacement.i was told that too many vehicles needed replacement they started only replacing if vehicle was involved in a crash.also, the lube is only a bandaid and will need to be done over and over through out term of operation of vehicle.not safe if left unlubed.this truck also has started excessive vibrating [16,500 miles] while engine is running and the vehicle is in park, drive but stopped via brake; neutral and brake applied. Brake being applied increases the excessive vibration.i do not feel safe in this vehicle and i have stopped driving it.

I special ordered a 2005 chevy 4x4truck because i wanted a singlecab. When i first got it, something didn't seem right about it and about the 3rd day i realized the steering wheel was off center. I took it back to gus paulos chevrolet in slc utahand they were seemingly stunned also.the salesman actually went around the lot looking to see if other trucks were off center also.they were.there was a factory rep there , having some30 yrs with gmc and it took him a long time to see what i was talking about also.salesman said he'd call back to the factory and find out why they were like that. Called me a couple days later and said it was a safety feature.what?!?!?!a safety feature for how many years and you didn't know that??? and how come the trucks are off center and the cars are not??? how come ford and dodge aren't off centering theirs!???it was scary driving this truck in the rain as i felt i had no control. Like driving on ice!i used it to pull my horse trailer (mini 6 horse slant) and my trailer swayed on this truck!i have been pulling horse trailers all overthe us since the early 70s and have never had a trailer sway on me before!not ever!on the freeway, when a semi would pass , they would literally blow me (with the trailer) to the other side of the lane!!! when using cruise control, it would accelerate on the level/flat and not on hills!!! i live at the end of a dirt road and when it got washboardy that truck would practically jump off the road!my toyota rides it like it's just slightly bumpy!this truck wasa lemon!a danger to drive on the road! other people that rode in the truck with me could tell/feel the insecurity of it!my vet (horse) told me he once (and never will again) owned a chevy truck and with the vet box on the back, his truck swayed also!he agreed it was like driving on ice. If you need more details, i'd be more than happy to supply you with them.

Dt*:the contact stated the front driver side wheel makes a clunking noise and the steering wheel is inoperable.the dealer inspected the vehicle several times and was unable to determine the problem; however the steering shaft was lubricated.additionally, an independent mechanic inspected the vehicle and determined the steering box was loose.

The 2005 chevy silverado crew cab, just started without notice getting very hard to steer from a stop or slow speed, noticed a "grabbing" of the wheel when slowed to make a turn. Determined the cause to be the power steering pump went out, no further details were given, and the part was replaced.

2005 duramax diesel, 13,000 miles - steering shaft;i've been "shafted".dealership only grease vs. Replacement due to cost to manufacture.no more chevy for me or my family [7 children!].

Dt*:the contact stated the steering column knocked at any speed.the dealership greased the steering column, but this did not correct the problem.the vehicle was taken back to the dealership, but the service manager stated there were no repairs available and the steering column would be greased again.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving at various speeds, the steering column made a clunking noise.this was more frequent when making a left hand turn.the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and the steering column was greased.this repair worked for a short time.however, the steering column again makes the clunking noise.

The events leading up to the replacement were noise in the front end while turning. No failure just had it checked out and was determined that the steering column shaft had to be replaced.

After purchasing (and returning!) a 2005 chevy silverado pui contacted the dealer about the off center steering wheel.he acted like he had no idea they were like that (and they've been for years!) so he allegedly called the factory to find out why and told me it's a safety feature!!! this is so bogus !if it is a safety feature - why aren't the cars off center?why doesn't ford and dodge make theirs like that? this truck was a nightmare to drive - specifics:horse trailer swayed when pulled w/this truck.it hydroplained in the slightest amount of water. When pulling on the freeway, semi's would literally blow me to the other side of the lane!i have witnesses to how scary this truck was to drive or ride in!!!someone needs to investigate this off center steering wheel thing!!!a dodge dealer told me he thinks it's a manufacturer defect they're just trying to cover up!!!most people don't even notice it!it took me 3 days to figure out what was so strange about that truck. I took it to another dealer to have things fixed and they had it awhole day and fixed nothing! there's a lot more to this if you 'd like to contact me!

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado k1500.while driving at an unknown speed, the contact's wife heard a clunking sound and noticed a difference in the steering column.the contact took the vehicle to a repair shop and they referenced nhtsa campaign id number 05v018000 (steering:gear box:shaft sector).the dealer performed a diagnostic and recommended that the intermediate steering shaft be replaced.the vin was not included in the recall; therefore, the repair would not be made for free.the manufacturer has not been notified.the current mileage was 80,943 and failure mileage was approximately 76,000.updated 1/6/09 updated 01/14/09.

I noticed at about 29,500 miles that the power steering was not functioning normally at park or low idle speeds.also there is a clunking in the steering column at low speeds and while turning.

The power steering stops working at low speed or parked. I have contacted gm several times regarding this and they say there is no fix at this time. Dealership has witnessed and documented the problem. I feel this is becoming a safety issue, as it gets worse..ie. Make common, every day.

Dt*: the contact stated a power steering pump which was installed in the vehicle, made a winding sound like the power steering pump was low on fluid.the vehicle was taken to the dealer who refused to replace the power steering pump.the contact expressed concern that this was a safety concern because the brakes system relies on the power steering pump. There was a nhtsa recall # 05v455000 for the hose that goes between the power steering and the brake system. The vehicle was included in the recall due to the vin, however the dealer refused to replace the components because there were no visual problems present.

Gm continues to ignore the fact that certain model vehicles have a intermediate steering shaft problem.it is a well known and fairly common fact.they currently have a replacement part that will remedy the problem but refuse to issue a recall for this problem.

Vehicle steering shakes when turning or breaking.

Front steering makes a crunching sound when i turn the steering wheel.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado. After inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed the spare tire cable fractured causing the spare tire to detach from the vehicle. The strands where the cable fractured were uneven and contained rust. The contact was unaware unsure what the approximate speed was when the failure occurred.the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.updated 01/13/12*lj

Front bumper is beginning to sag.

Letter from senator on behalf of constituent re problems with 2005 chevy silverado. Dot/i#2010-1208.the consumer stated his vehicle has severe corrosion on the frame. Within two yeas, the entire undercarriage had corroded, which caused the brakes and power steering to fail catastrophically.the consumer sued alleging breach of warranty. The case was heard, however gm experts testified that the corrosion was caused by sea air and they were not under any obligation to cover corrosion caused by the environment. They also testified that the corrosion was primarily cosmetic and that the vehicle was in good driving condition. The consumer stated two days later, as he attempted to drive the vehicle to a repair shop, the brake lines ruptured and the drive shaft sheared in half, nearly causing a major accident.

When the temp outside is about 40 degrees or cooler, something under the vehicle rattles(driver front). This rattling is metal on metal, and sounds like rapidly banging 2 steel cans together. The noise dissipates after driving the vehicle for about 10 minutes, but is quite noticeable when going over bumps in the road during the first 10 mins of usage.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. The contact was driving 55 mph when the frame bed of the vehicle dropped. The contact then pulled over and noticed that the springshackles to the frame were fractured. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where they advised that there was corrosion on the frame and offered no assistance in repairing the vehicle.the manufacturer was not madeaware of the failure and the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 104,000 and the current mileage was 108,617.

Frame is rotted, wont pass inspection, brake lines are also rotted had to replace twice.

New 2005 silverado 2500 hd 6.0l, random, metal popping, cracking noises while in motion, and parked. Sounds like small rocks hitting the sheet metal body.sounds are not isolated to one area on truck, come from all over, both sides.started almost immediately after purchase.dealer says it is related to "heat shields" and a service bulletin is published by gm.i am supposedto get a recall notice within 30 days or so.i cannot find a recall notice/service bulletin for this in anyone's records.

Truck bounces. Gm replaced with same results. Replaced with aftermarket monroe gas magnums which helped some. Suspension is still weak. Transmission slips while driving. Informed dealer who said transmission guy was not in that day. Will contact the dealer again.

Vehicle vibrates non-stop through steering wheel, accelerator, floorboard & brake pedal.

Dt: the contactowns a 2005 chevrolet silverado. The vehicle bounced as it went down the road at 50-65 mph.it hasbeen doing this since the contactbought it new.neither the dealer nor the manufacturer will do anything. The contact took vehicleto 4 dealers, and they couldnot duplicatethe problem.they could feel the bounce but couldnot fix.

While driving, loud bang. Looked under truck, driver's side rear leaf spring shackle had rotted off and the leaf spring busted through the bed of the truck. 2 weeks later, a banging on the under side of bed. Look underneath and the driver's side rear shock mount has rusted off the frame. Not even sure there is enough metal left to weld or put on a new mount! the rear cross member that holds the spare tire is non-existent. It has rusted away. The body of the truck is in great shape. It is just the frame area and mounts that attach to it. I have owned this truck since it was new, it has never been off road and has been kept in excellent running condition. This seems to be an ongoing problem with gm. I have seenmany complaints and hopes that the nhtsa takes notice and action.

Truck frame rusted so badly vehicle can't be inspected without replacing frame. Rear shock absorbers mounted on cross-members that are entirely rusted through. Same frame design on 2014 trucks of same model. Body is still good, but inspection will expire at end of sept. 2014 and this 9 year old truck with 76,000 original miles will be unable to be put on the road without frame replacement. Pretty sad when '87 chevy's are still on the road and this piece of rust is only good for looking at.

2005 silverado crew cab front end is unstable on rough road.

Dt*: the contact stated the front suspension is inadequate while driving on concrete poured road conditions.the speed of the vehicle must be decreased or the vehicle will go about a foot and half into the air.the dealership has been alerted and the shocks have been replaced twice however, this did not correct the problem.the manufacturer was alerted and a complaint was filed.

Front end/steering unstable - jumps around - when hitting rough spots in road surface from 5/8/05 to present.

The contact owns 2005 chevrolet pickup.while driving approximately 25 mph around a curve he heard a noise outside of the vehicle.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection.the technician stated the failure was contributed to a manufacturer design of the wheel bearing. The vehicle has not been repaired for the malfunction.the failure and current mileages were 87,000.

Both wheel bearing seals leaking on front end causing grease to get on front brake rotors.

Driver noticed that the front of the truck locked up on its own. Driver was unable to maintain control of the truck and hit a ditch.then.driver took vehicle to the dealer for inspection, andmechanic determined that the problem could not be duplicated, and the vehicle was operating as designed.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado.while driving 40 mph, the vehicle stopped when the accelerator pedal was depressed.the engine was still running.the contact stated that the abs warning indicator light illuminated.the manufacturer replaced the front wheel bearing part with a part that was designed for 4 wheel drive vehicles.there was no axle shaft available for 2 wheel drive vehicles.the part number was 15946732.the failure mileage was 45,695 and current mileage was 46,000.

Catastrophic failure of front wheel bearing while driving. Made right hand turn, sudden screeching from front left wheel, brake pedal got soft, greatly reduced stopping power, anti lock system engaged. I was on my way to the transmission shop with previous listed complaint, when i arrived shop tech's. Removed the wheel for inspection which reviewed a complete failure of the bearing. Bearing was replaced on site. No warning signs of failure showed previous. Per service manager at another dealership, he openly admitted chevrolet has had a major problem in this component failure without warning. Truck only has 59,000 mile and is only 2 years old.

Noticed vehicle vibration at 45 mph like tire out of round. At 55 mph and greater, vibration felt like tire out of balance. Gm tells me problem is normal, will not correct. Gm calls the problem "beaming", and suggests placing 500 lbs in bed of truck. Tried this and vibration still exists. Truck shakes so bad at 65 mph that it is unstable in curves, making it difficult to handle. The vehicle cannot continue to be reliable with this continuous vibration eating away at the suspension system. The vehicle now has developed a harmonic noise at 45 mph and less, which the dealer tells me is also normal and will not repair.

Consumer 2005 silverado makes a very loud wind blowing noise while driving.

While driving over bumps in the road a knocking noise was heard from the rear end.dealer statedleaf springs needed to be replaced.

Was on highway when heard a noise and pulled over to see a doughnut for a tire and rubber pieces tied around tailpipe,_e-brake and other parts underneath. Damaged rear panel the mileage at the time was 30100miles could've caused a bad accident. Also broke a cluster lost all meters on dash.

Airbag light on . Prdn321 no light to see, what gear, i'm in . Heater and light isn't working.goes into 4x4 on its own , no responce when pushing buttons , to put into 2 wheel drive.loud clunking shifting into and out of gear , .

4 wheel drive automatic shift to take the 4 wheel drive in and out messed up had to change the servo out.the other issue is the bearing hub for the front wheel hubs 4 wheel drive has a defect i have had these hubs changed out 3 times at a very costly price.

Thank you

I purchased a 2005 chevy silverado in late 2010 from a chevy dealer (tom clark chevrolet in mckeesport, pa). Approximately june 7, 2013, my speedometer went crazy sticking on 0, 100, or 120 ... Regardless of my speed.i contacted the dealer monday june 10, 2013 and was told to bring it in for them to look at it. I took my vehicle in to tom clark at 7:55 a.m. On tuesday june 11, 2013 and received a phone call from them at approximately 8:45 a. Telling me that the issue is the cluster and he agreed that this issue is the exact issue that was raised in the gm lawsuit but still told me that they would not fix the problem. (i only became aware of the gm lawsuit over the weekend of june 7, 2013, while searching the internet to try and find out what could be wrong with my vehicle).he then informed me that they wouldn't fix it because the warranty/recall expired last year (2012), so he does acknowledge that a problem exists and has existed.i purchased this vehicle after all the issues with them surfaced and a lawsuit had actually taken place and they sold me this truck, knowing there was a problem and didn't inform me of the problem.now they are telling me that it will cost $550.00 to fix it.my vehicle has 49,809 miles on it, it's a third vehicle that's hardly ever used and there is no excuse for the dishonest practices of tom clark where this matter is concerned. They sold me a vehicle with a defective part, while a lawsuit was either pending or had been resolved, and still failed to inform me of the problem.now they want me to pay $550.00 to fix what they already knew was wrong.

Dt*:the contact stated the speedometer is inoperable.the dealership determined the speedometer needs to be replaced

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado. While driving at approximately 65 mph, the speedometer remained at 120 mph and failed to provide an accurate reading. The failure recurred on multiple occasions. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 113,000.

My 2005 chevy silverado 1500, 4.3 engine and 4 speed auto transmissionhas a problem when using cruise. Going up hil and it needs to downshift it will go into 3rd gear for anout a second and half then to second with rpm going from 1800 to 4500 in less than 2 seconds. I'm being told this is normal and gm has no plans to fix it.

(1) it was 22 degrees outside and i went to turn on my heater while pulling away from the house.there was heat coming out but it was not blowing and the heaters control adjustment knobs were not clicking into place.no air was blowing from the front panels or to any panels.i couldn't even get the defroster to operate.i checked all the fuses as per the vehicle operators manual and all fuses were fine.on friday, 04jan08 i called turan foley chevrolet-cadillac-buick dealership where i had bought the truck back in january of 2005.i spoke to the service department supervisor and explained the problem.he advised me that it was my heaters resistor box and that it had melted.he also advised that he had seen at least 7 trucks that week alone for the same problem and that every 2-3 out of every 10 trucks has been having this problem but that no recall has been placed for this part yet.(2) the resistor box and the pigtail connector had both melted.i left my house in texas and returned to mississippi on almost a 700 mile trip w/o any heat in low 20 temperatures.(3) the dealerships service department replaced the malfunctioned parts with:connector part number15862656 for $95.00 and the resistor part number 89019088 for $50.62 and then charged me $120.00 for labor on 1-1/2 hours labor costing me $289.56.my warranty did not cover it because it expired 2,656 miles after my warranty of 36,000 miles at 39,456.i contacted the chevrolet recall center and inquired as to if a recall had been issued and they advised not at this time.if you check the internet though and talk to the service departments on this problem, you will see and hear that this is a continuing issue.

Cold air blowing instead of hot air and could not defrost windshield. Had to pull off road and scrape inside of windshield. This has occurred several times over the years where hot air is coming from passenger side and cold air coming from drivers side. Very dangerous if you cannot see through the windshield as windows fog or freeze up.

I own both a chevy silverado and suburban 2005. Both vehicles will randomly start blowing hot air out the driver's side. I know at least 5 other people that have 2005 chevys and their vehicle does the same thing. I tried working with the dealer and chevy and both act like they never heard of the problem. Chevy refuses to acknowledge that this is a defected issue on their part and want over $1000.00 to fix the issue. Is there anyway you can get government motors to issue a recall?

Dt:the contact stated on three occasions the heater failed while in use.the first and second time the dealership cleaned the heater core.the third time, the water pump was replaced.there have been no further problems.

-the contact explained that last winter she was driving in her 2005 chevrolet silverado when suddenly the driver's window exploded ,almost causing a crash .the contact tookthe vehicle to the dealer.the dealer sent consumer to a glass repair shop where the glass was replaced.the consumer had to pay for the repairs out of pocket. Yesterday the truck was parked in the driveway. No one was in the truck .the consumer went outside and the driver's side window exploded again. The glass was replaced for a second time and the consumer had to pay again.the consumer is requesting an explanation as to what was causing this failure.no one at the dealer knew why thishappened.the consumer felt thatthe dealer should pay for the repairs and attempt to find the cause of the failures.updated 2/22/2007 -

Outside rear view mirrors have a blind spot at therear bumper area. Mirror must be repositioned, for backing, each time to view area, and then repositioned to drive forward.

2005 chevrolet silverado cut outs in the exterior side view mirrors causes blind spots.*mrthe mirror had to be repositioned each tme the consumer was backing up to see critical areas.then it had to be repositioned agian for normal driving.blind spot caused consumer to hit a concrete post when backing.

Drivers-side outside rear view mirror shakes excessively, rendering it useless.dealer replaced the mirror, but stated the problem was most likely with the aftermarket bug shield on the hood.after replacement the mirror still shook.i removed the bug shield, which took care of the problem.dealer stated that a gm bug shield was designed not to cause the disturbance that causes the mirror to shake.

Chevy 2005 silverado 68,000 miles.bearing assembly went out on left side. When i heard a loud "clunk" noise i towed it to the dealer.mechanic said wheel was about to fall off and called it "catastrophic" failure. Now 4 weeks later other side is going out.this could have killed me.i do a lot of highway driving, only reason i discovered it was because i drove with windows down and heard the noise.this could have killed me if i had the air on and windows up!

Noticed vehicle vibration at slow speed and persistent but not as severe at highway speeds.not being a mechanic i thought it felt like a tire out of round or tire out of balance.took it to a firestone shop to inspect and correct problem.mechanic found that the right front bearing was falling apart and needed to be replaced.the tires were ready to be replaced they had 60,000 miles on them with a little cupping but fairly even wear.without stopping to check the tires the bearing most likely would have failed at highway speeds, which probably would have prevented me from filing this report.
