I was driving up tp a stop lightwhen the light turned red there was a car in front of me that had stopped, i realized i didn't have a lot of room but thought it would be enough to stop. I put the pedal to the floor and still hit them two people were injured.then on 9/8/07 and a deer ran out iin front of me, again my foot to the floor i hit the deer. 1st i was suprised that my air bags didn't deploy (really tore up the front of the truck) and 2nd i should of been able to slow down in time. After reading all of the issues with the brakes on chevys and no one is doing anything about it, i think its time to look for a different car company.

On jan. 10 of 2006 i lost control of my 2004 chevy silverado while i was driving on icy road. I hit a concrete divider head on. My concern is that the air bag never deployed even though the damage to the truck was quite big. I was given a estimate of $9820 of damage because they have to replace the body frame. Even with all this damage my airbag never deployed.

Air bag warning light occasionally started coming on. Took truck to several independent svc places. They said do not have computer reader for airbags. Light started staying on constantly. Took truck to dealers and they said because of liability, the diagnostics are $900 and could run another $1500 or more to fix problem. And, they wanted to keep truck. Truck is used daily for short runs and has a bunch of equipment on it that would have to be removed in order to leave it somewhere. Because of the staggering cost, and the inconvenience of having to off load the truck and not have its use and the lack of places to work on it at all, we have left it alone. I have driven vehicles without airbags over 3 continents and through jungles & all types of terrain over the last 40 years with out ever needing airbags. Now takata makes a safety device that can shoot and kill you -- do i need this? if so, who pays the repair bill?

Dt*:the contact stated while at stop sign, a van hit the contact's vehicle on the front driver's side.upon impact, the airbag did not deploy.

I had an accident in my 2004 chevy truck at a speed of approx 80 mphhead on impact.the truck was totaled but my air bags didn't work.i made a complaint to gmac, they had an investigation and according to them there was nothing wrong with the air bags.i find that hard to believe with that kind of impact, this is a safety issue and i have 2001 chevysuburban that my wife drives with my children. Can you please look into this because i would like to know gmac is not taken responsibility for the air bag failure. Thank god i was wearing my seat belt , because it was the only thing that saved my life.

The airbag warning light has come on for no apparent reason.the gmc dealership has stated that there is no recall associated with this defect, but shouldn't a safety item like your airbag warning light coming on be covered under a lifetime warranty?just doesn't make sense that this critical safety feature on all newer vehicles should be covered.so does it mean the airbags will not deploy if i'm in an accident, or is it just a malfunctioning dashboard warning light that has come on? i know my model truck is older (2004) but something like this i should think would be covered.have there been many complaints with this happening in chevy trucks?

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado.the contact stated that the service air bag light illuminated intermittently. The dealer replaced the modular twice, the air bag, plugs, air bag string and several other components more than 15 times. The contact had the modular underneath the dashboard replaced again and the vehicle will not start. The headlight are working; however, the vehicle will not start. The contact was concerned, and felt that it was a safety issue that the air bag could deploy on its own.the failure mileage was 30000 and the current mileage was 65300.

While driving 30-35 mph i took notice to vehicle slowing down in front of me.i applied my brakes and pedal went to floor causing me to rear end vehicle.upon impact air bags did not deploy.truck was taken to dealership of purchase, still sits there today.third occasion of brakes going to floor, first occasion of air bags not deploying.

Fatal crash. Entire left side of vehicle ripped off including driver door. Truck flipped also. Hit 4 trees. Speed limit was 65 in the area they believe the vehicle to be moving a little over the speed limit. Air bags never deployed none of them. The impact totaled the vehicle.

Recently while trying to start my truck there was a drivability issues with the powertrain, i had the lock lightfor the theft deterrent system on the instrument panel come on. The check engine light was also lit. The airbag light for the passenger side wouldn't come on.it read "airbag off" even though there was a passenger seated. The red warning light for the drivers side did not appear to work either.this issue only happened one time.cw

On may 29th my service air bags light came on. In talking with other chevy silver owners of the same year and around that year it seems this is common. I paid $521.18 to get these air bag sensors replaced on 17 jun15 at a dealer in harrisburg pa., because i was told without the sensors the air bags would not go off. This is a safety issue i am being told b y other drivers they are just driving around with the service air bag sensor light on. Thats up to them.also on 21 jan 14 i had to have all the brake lines replaced because they had rusted and would not be safe to drive the truck costing $720.00. I was told it was because of northeastern winters and road salts, which i find to be a unexceptable answer to the problem.on 23 dec 03 i paid $356.96 to replace dash cluster which also is a safety problem. I these safety problems with the silverados are be ignored. My question is how many people had be affected or injured by these problems?

I recently purchased a used 2004 chev. Silverado pick-up in 7-2005 from a car dealer in our area. Within a short time frame from the purchase the air bag light came on for no apparent reason. I took the truck to the dealer where i purchased it and they advised that it would cost approx. $550.00 to replace an sdm module. I have spoken to several mechanics since and they advised that they have seen this same problem with the chev. Silverado pick-ups driver air bag. I believe that this is a safety issue that should be looked into. I believe that they have a defective coil spring in the air bag system which will not allow the steering wheel airbag to operate. Please check and advise. Thanks.

While driving 60 mph vehicle hydroplaned, lost control, and crashed into a building head on . Upon impact, driver's side air bag did not deploy, andpassenger's side air bag was deactivated.no injuries reported.

Once the instrument panel was installed back in the vehicle, the panel operated as normal with the exception of the oil pressure warning gauge. The dealer did not replace the instrument panel with a new one nor were there any repairs performed. The contact spoke to the manufacturer and was told that the failure was a common issue with the year, make and model but the manufacturer was only willing to assist with repairs on those vehicle with 75,000 miles or less. The vin was unavailable. The failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 82,000.

I own a 2004 chevy silverado z71 4x4 with 5.3l v8.at approximately 50k miles i started having erratic/incorrect speedometer readings and the speedometer sticks at varying locations on the panel.i must gage speed by using the tachometer.i haven't attempted to correct the problem yet as the cost will be 500.00 plus.

The dash instrument cluster failed and does not read a correct temperature nor does the oil gauge read correctly. There is a clicking sound within the instrument panel continuously. The vehicle was taken in for service at the gm company. It was determined that the cluster is failing and the reading are not correct on the dashboard panel are nor right. It will require replacement. Gm says that the specialrecall for this problem is expired and they will not fix my truck. The special recall expired in 2011.

The oil pressure gauge on my instrument cluster is faulty. I was driving down the interstate at about 75mph when i notice it was pegged out. I immediately pull off to the side of the road and turn my truck off thinking something was wrong with my oil pressure when i found out that it was the gauge that was faulty. After doing some research on the internet, i found out that a lot of people were having problems with their instrument clusters.

While driving at approximately 60 mph vehicle lost power, and then itshut down, causing the vehicle to losebrakes, andpower steering . Dashboard got completely blank. Owner took the vehicle to the dealer and contacted the manufacturer. Vehicle is currently out of warranty.

My speedometer, rpm gauge, and transmission gauge have all stopped functioning...basically everything on the left side if your looking at it.the speedometer hangs on 30 or 60 and if it does work, which is only occasionally it's very slow and clicks it's way along, so therefore it is not accurate at all.the rpm gauge gets all the way off the gauge and sticks, and the other one just sits there.why is there not a recall on this yet...it's too expensive to fix and very unsafe to drive!

Instrument panel/cluster is no longer functioning.speedometer, tachometer, oil pressure gauge and so on are erratic and giving false readings.dealer is not willing to assist.please advise, rc, esquire.

Intermittent problem, has occurred aprox. 5-6 times.speedometer needle will read about 45-50 mph more than actual speed.turn off vehicle and the needle rests about the 50 mph location and will only go back to the zero location after 6-8 restarts.also while listening to the radio it will suddenly go to another station and lose all the presets.

My 2004 chevy silverado speedometer keeps sticking at 55 or 60 when i travel for more than 20 miles its really unsafe and ended up paying a 191.00 speeding ticket over this. My speedometer was stuck at 50 when i was really doing 65 and i didn't notice i told the officer but he said to have someone check it out. I am a fairly good mechanic also a electrician. I know it is the stepper motor in the instrument cluster. I just don't have the funds to fix it myself when i am paying speeding tickets this should be a definite recall i have read so many complaints over the internet. Also talking with other mechanics that see the same problem on at least weekly basis. Thank you

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado.while driving less than 50 mph, the speedometer remained stuck on 40 mph, despite acceleration or deceleration.the oil gauge also remained stuck on 80.the failure and current mileages were less than 64,000.

I purchased a 2004 chevy silverado bring new from commonwealth motors and now have 85,000 and the speedometer is registering from 60 mph to 120 mph.it's floating all over the place.i have never seen anything like this.it's so dangerous not knowing how fast you are going.how can a 2004 vehicle have this problem.i am finding out there are so many complaint pertaining to this out there.gm has decided to extend some kind of warranty for up to 80,000 miles.i was told this from the service dept at commonwealth motors, but he would absolutely not repair or replace anything because of the mileage.he compared it to taking out an extended warranty for your refrigerator and something happening the day after it expired.you can't kill yourself in your refrigerator when your not sure how fast your driving.i had received a letter approximately 1 1/2 years ago stating your vehicle may later have a problem, but (in bold letters) do not take your vehicle to your gm dealer as a result of this letter unless you believe that your vehicle has this condition.why didn't i have the option to change it for preventable measures.no.they wanted me to wait and maybe i would go over their mileage when it did go defective.then they can say "i'm sorry, too late."gm is admitting they have installed defective speedometer cluster and in a 2004 vehicle, they should be replacing it.i don't have 200,000 miles, i only have 85,000.can anything be done concerning this matter.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado.while driving 40 mph, the speedometer remained at 90 mph.the failure occurs sporadically.the dealer stated that nothing could be done to correct the failure.the contact heard of recalls for the speedometers on other silverados, but for different years.the failure mileage was 85,000 and current mileage was 87,000.

Chevrolet sent me a notice of guage failure in 2007 , and said they would replace them if they were not working as long as the milage was under 80000. The problem was when they sent me the notice my guages were working, they continued to work until after i had 82000 then they stopped working. I called the dealer and told them and they said i was over the miles req. I understand there were a lot of trucks that had the same problem.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that the instrument panel failed on the vehicle. The odometer worked, but the fuel gauge and all other gauges failed. The dealer stated that the entire instrument cluster needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

2004 silverado driven by my son everyday to his classes has a speedometer problem.the speedometer does not work at all.i have had trouble getting someone from peltier chevrolet to call be back after leaving messages.this is a dangerous concern.i noticed that there are related complaints already on this speedometer but seems like nothing is being done about it.this vehicle is only two years old, it is ridiculous to have this type of problem.

2000 miles after my warranty went out so did my speedometer it will work for about a week then register 60-100 mph even setting still. I contacted earl dunn in madison cause that is where i purchased the truck and the extended warranty that really wasn't extended. The warranty they sold me didn't exceed the manf. Warranty . They told me at the dealer it was a additional 36,000 miles ,huh ,that's what i get for not reading the very fine print. Now i can honestly see why american company's are going belly up and that's a sad thing. Last gm for me. I contacted a dealer in carthage tnthere service manger said they would have fixed the problem, no cost , but since it was purchased at another dealer he couldn't really do nothing about it.he also said it was a major problem for chevy/gmc, p/u's,avalanches,escalades,tahoes, but gm was doing nothing about it and they couldn't get new parts to fix it. The instrument cluster had to be sent off to be remanufactured.

When driving vehicle lost power and everything shut down. There were no brakes or steering, and the dashboard was completely black. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, and was told that if this happened again he would have to tow it back to the dealer.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado.while driving approximately 40 mph at night, the instrument panel warning indicators and gauges failed without warning.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they stated that the instrument panel cluster failed.the technician stated that there was an extended warranty that covered the repair; however, the vehicle was excluded from the warranty due to its excessive mileage.the estimated cost to repair the vehicle was $800.the vehicle has not been repaired.the failure mileage was 40 and the current mileage was 78,000.

Speedometer failure. Took the truck to the chevrolet repair center to be told that the warranty will not cover and the price they are asking is outrageous. The defect is known to the repair man there for i was informed that they were having it very frequently, therefore it ias a manufactures defect.

The instrument panel stopped working on my 2004 chevrolet silverado. I found lots of complaints on this problem online. When i called the local dealer to see about getting my vehicle fixed they advised even though the mileage was old it was 4 month to old to be covered by the fix. They know they sold vehicles with bad instrument panels but are not fixing the problem.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado. The contact heard an abnormal noise coming from the driver seat. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the ecm box was damaged and needed replacement. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The contact also stated that the same failure occurred in december of 2015. The approximate failure mileage was 78,344.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado. While driving approximately 35 mph, the inside of the vehicle emitted smoke and the contact smelled burning wires. The failure occurred on several occasions. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 55,000.

Instrument cluster panel gauges work sporadic, or not at all. Speedometer reads over 120 mph all the time, and gas gauge does not work at all. I have not repaired them yet because of cost ($500+ labor and programming fees).

2004 chevy 1500 truck, i received a recall for the dash cluster, all my dash components do not work, the recall is if only there were less than so many miles, now at 90,000 miles, mine quit working, why is a recall only good for so many miles when there is a problem with it.

On aug 13, 2008 at approx midnight our truck which was parked in our driveway started on fire.it did damage to the engine and we believe it started with the glow plug relay switch or something electric covered by power train warranty.today is sept 13th and we just received a ltr from gm that they are not taking any responsibility.we are frustrated and the truck is damaged and we do not believe we will be made whole as the insurance wants to total and pay only the market value which is much less than blue book.we are without a vehicle and gm has been less than reluctant to respond to calls, etc.the truck has been sitting at dealer for a month waiting for someone from gm to inspect to validate fire dept report and accept responsibility.i am disgusted with their customer service and the fact that you cannot talk to anyone with authority.this is their problem and they don't want to take any action.i found another individual had the same problem with their truck.our truck is like brand new.it was purchased brand new and it is a 2004 duramax with 46,000 miles in mint condition.can you help us?

The speedometer stopped showing accurate speed, odometer still works. We took the truck in for service and found that it the failure was a common occurrence, but not covered under any warranty or recall. The cost of repair was approximately $500.00. We now use garmin for speed control.

Speedometer erratic or don't work at all.

Speedometer and tachometer failure.speedometer needle swings clockwise and goes past 120 mph - even when vehicle is stationary. Unable to determine vehicle's speed.very unsafe situation.tachometer is inaccurate.cannot determine if or when engine is being over-revved.this could lead to engine disintegration.both of the above has occured in a vehicle that is less than one year old.several delaerships advising this is getting to be a common occurance.

Tailgate problem, drivers seat failure, cruise control failure, declining brake effectiveness, water leaking in drivers door, electrical failure in radio, powermirrors. Owner returned truck to bank for vol.repo.feeling this truck was becoming more unsafe to drive, this among other circumstances.

Chevy silverado 2004 4 wd pickup approx miles 38,000 when driving truck speedometer raced past 120 mph .vehicle stayed at 50 mph when shut off. I understand this is a common problem and gm is in denial.

Speedometer stopped working. Odometer is still working.

Speedo problem. Sometimes reads too low. Sometimes reads too high. Sometimes reads 55 mph sitting still. Safety issue as i could be @100 mph when speedo indicates 55 mph.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the fuel gauge, tachometer and the battery charge indicator failed. Also, the speedometer would only operate sporadically. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure and current mileage was 141,000.

Dt:2004 chevrolet silverado.the consumer stated the vehicle stalled while driving onthe road.therewere no warning lights that come on before this happened.this has happened every time under 50 mph. Was able to be pull overthe vehicle and restarted it immediately.the dealership could not duplicate theproblem. When the vehicle was restarted it voided the chips memory.this has happened six times.the consumer had the vehicle towedto dealer, and the dealership could not find the cause of theproblem.the consumer sent chevrolet a registered letter with the information, the claim was denied.the problem started on june 29, 2005, and the last time this happened was august 19, 2005.every time this happened the consumer called the dealership.the dealer determined there was a lower cell n the battery and replaced it but the staling problem recurred.the consumer would like for the manufacturer to buy back the vehicle.

Dt:computer that programs the seats, windows, and mirrors failed.ifthe consumer tries to open the window the seat will move, this happens intermittently.sometimes whilebacking upthe mirrors will automatically go down toward the ground at 90 degrees.also, when turning the key in the ignition the radio will come on, even if the radio is turned off.the vehicle was taken tot he dealer 9 times and it was reprogrammed 5 or 6 times by the dealership.the consumer also reprogrammed it a dozen times.updated 01/04/06.

Well i bought the 2004 silverado truck in june of 2011 and i noticed that the speedometer stutter a little bit going each way. Then just recently i experienced the speedometer just stop working by getting stuck at 30mph. I pulled over the truck and turned it of to maybe reset the system but even with the trucked turned off the speedometer was still at 30mph. I tried hitting the dash a couple of times to see if that would work. It didn't work so i tried driving some more and the speedometer said i was doing 90mph when i was only going 65mph because i had another person on the road tell me they were going 65pmh. I even tried to hit the brakes multiple times to get the needle to drop below 30mph. It particially worked by making it go down but then it got stuck at 10mph even with the truck turned off. So i came home and checked the recalls for my model truck and year and apparently there was a recall for this problem but only for vehicles under 70000 miles which i think isn't right because its a failure with your electrical clusters that you know is there but wont fix which makes it not look good for you designers. I am a diesel mechanic and i would tell people that this is a safety hazard.

I have the same problem as many. The needle started sticking. Then it continuously got worse. Now i do not know how fast i am going. I took it to the dealership and it will cost 450.00 to replace.

Tachometer, speedometer and temperature gauge failures.

Dt*: the contact stated intermittently the speedometer needle sticks at various speeds.this is one of the two vehicles of the same year, make and model that the company owns.the other vehicle had the same problem.it was taken to the dealership and the instrument cluster which contains the speedometer, and tachometer was replaced which corrected the problem.the dealership has been alerted about the vehicle the contact drives.the manufacturer was alerted and explained for the contact to call the nhtsa to file a complaint. Updated 05/02/06.

Dt:while driving, the consumer found he was unable to get the engine out of 3rd gear as though it needed to be geared down.the vehicle is an automatic and thought it was an isolated incident. However, when it happened again, it pretty consistent in doing so. The vehicle was taken to the dealer.the dealer said it could be fixed and did repair. Diagnosed a shift solenoid, which was replaced.about 1 day later after repair, the same thing occurred. Returned to dealer and was informed that the valve body needed to be replaced.after taking the valve body apart, it was found that it was not the problem.the dealer stated the transmission was the problem. The check engine light illuminated on and that was the first time it had illuminated.spoke with dealer about this.the next day, the gauges worked but the led light would not light up along with the odometer.after driving half a mile, the lights slowly come on but felt this was a safety concern as it may be electrical.the vehicle would not shift from 3rd to 4th gear.

Speedometer/tach don't work, fuel gauge is incorrect. The vehicle is an 04 chevy silverado 1500 2x4. Purchased new in 04, warranty has expired.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that on january 15, 2010, he noticed that the speedometer did not function properly. The vehicle was taken to a repair shop where the contact was informed that the instrument cluster was defective. The contact called the authorized dealer and manufacturer who both stated that the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 91,000. The current mileage was 98,560.

My 04 chevy silverado ss has lost the gas gage and the rpm gage is sticking. The only gas gage that i have is the digital one. The rpm gage has started sticking. When the gas gage started sticking i talked to the chevy service department and they said a gas cleaner they sold would most likely fix the problem. We have done two treatments with no luck. Today is the first day therpm gage is sticking. By the sounds of all the other similar complaints it will be stuck soon. How may people have to complain to get a obvious manufacture problem fixed?

Speedometer dropped to zero when driving at 55 mph, after about 40 miles speedometer runs slower than actual speed. This is happening on a regular basis.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado extended cab.while driving less than 30 mph, the speedometer dial went straight to zero.the failure occurred approximately three times within one week.the failure mileage was 83,959 and current mileage was greater than 84,000.updated 1/6/09 updated 01/14/09.

2004 chevy silverado with the speedometer sticking. Consumer states that the speedometer will stay at 50 mph for a while then drop to 0 mph after stopping a few times and might not move from 0 unless he shuts the vehicle off and restart it.

We have a 2004 silverado. On friday, dec. 21 the speedometer started to stick. When the vehicle is stopped it will go as low as 30 mph. When driving the speedo says about 110-120 mph. There is (without going and looking) about 38,300 miles on the truck. We bought this truck new in feb. Of 2003. This is a huge safety issue.

Chevy silverado 2004 4 wd pickup approx miles 38,000 when driving truck speedometer raced past 120 mph .vehicle stayed at 50 mph when shut off. I understand this is a common problem and gm is in denial.

My speedometer started acting up saying that i was going faster than i was going. Now it stays on 120 and now my oil pressure gauge is starting to do the same.

Speedometer on my 2004 gm chevy silverado reads drastically different from actual speed while driving, making it impossible to determine actual speed which could cause a crash due to improper speed, or traffic safety violation for improper speed.gm does not have recall on this safety issue.gm is aware of this problem with many of its vehicles and demands $500.00 and several days to repair.they will not replace parts, only send it out for repair at owner's expense.

My speedometer sticks. It will not mover or it will go to 80 and your doing 30. Or it won't move at all. This has been going on now for a year.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that the speedometer, fuel guage, odometer, pressure and the high/ low beam indicators failed to display. The contact mentioned that the instrument panel failed intermittently. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure was unable to be duplicated. The manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000. Updated 08/18/14*lj updated 09/5/2014

Speedometer reads 75 when the truck is stopped and quickly pegs when moving.chevy wants hundreds of dollars to repair.a quick search on the internet revealed that this is a frequent problem with chevy truck newer than 2003.it should be a recall issue.

Speedometer on 2004 silverado reads erratically. Not reliable to show correct speed. Reading eventually will reach "0" while speed has not changed.

My 2004 chevrolet silverado speedometer started working erratically or not at all about 3 months ago.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado.the contact was driving at approximately 40 mph and the speedometer indicated the mileage as 0 mph. The failure has occurred multiple times. The authorized dealer was informed twice because the vehicle was recalled.they stated that if the vehicle was not broken they weren't repairing it. One year later he took it back to the dealer because he started experiencing the failure with the speedometer and stated that they could not repair the failure because he was over the mile restriction on the warranty. The manufacturer stated that the contact would indeed have to repair his vehicle at his own expense. The vehicle has not been repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 85000 and the current mileage was 110000.

While traveling, my speedometer on my 2004 chevy silverado would not read an accurate mileage, for example while traveling 60 mph, the speedometer would be in excess of 100 mph, thus causing a safety issue, due to the fact that i do not know the exact speed of my vehicle, and can only judge that my vehicle is traveling the correct speed by pacing other vehicles on the highway. In fact i was pulled over for speeding, and when asked how fast i was going, i showed the police officer that my speedometer was reading 40 mph when i was parked, when in fact i was going approximately 10 miles above the speed limit. I went to the chevy dealership, and the service representative said that he has had to replace a couple of theses, and with parts and labor would be approximately $700. My warranty expired just 700 miles prior to this defect starting. I was about to pay to get this repaired, when i decided to do research online to see if this was a problem with other silverados, and come to find out, there are many cases like mine. I feel due to the fact that there are so many cases like this, that it should be considered a defect, and be repaired at no cost to the customer.

The speedometer on my 2004 chevrolet silverado does not work properly.at times it will show 0 mph when the car is being driven.when the speedometer decides to work it moves in a jerking fashion. The first time i realized there was an issue with the speedometer was because i was pulled over by the state police on a rural highway going 26 miles over the speed limit.other gauges also do not work.the oil gauge does not register and is pointing downward.the fuel gauge now does not work and points off the scale.i have seen on the internet many complaints with similar issues.

It appears numerous gm vehicles are current experiencing speedometer cluster problems, cause the speedometer to fail.my issue is with a 2004 chevrolet silverado.there appears to be numerous complaints online, without any recall proposed by gm.

Problems with my speedometer.the speedometer gets stuck as well as rpm readings.interior materials squeak when going over slightest bumps.

Speedometer quit working. At a stop it was showing 120 miles an hour, sometimes more sometimes less. After researching on car forums on the internet i found many, many people have had these same problems.

Speedometer failure-2004 chevy. Silverado-z71- incorrect speed indicated on speedometer-at stop speedometer continues to register movement-when moving speedometer registers speeds in excess of or lower than actual speed.

I own a 2004 silverado. As with an ever growing list of fellow owners of chevy and gmc 2000 to 2005 trucks, the speedometer has quit working with only 40,000 miles on the vehicle. This is a safety hazard not being able to know the speed at which our vehicles are traveling at!

(1) there were no specific events that lead to failure. (2) my 2004 chevy silverado speedometer stopped working at about 40k miles when warranty was out. Dealer says it costs approximately $500. I've read many websites describing this issue along with lawsuits in ca, or, and wa, so i was hoping gm would recall. I've been driving for 9 months guessing my speed. It is march 2007 and vehicle inspection is due so now i have to pay $500 since gm has not recalled this issue. I've seen concerns about this issue that go back to 2005. How is it that no one has forced gm to recall this potential dangerous defect. (3) to correct problem, i will have to pay $500 to fix a defect that gm knows about and won't do anything about.

My speedometer has had a 'jerky' motion for the past few weeks.today, on my way to work, i set my cruise at 78.when i exited the freeway and entered the slower section of road, my speedometer failed to decrease as my speed did.it still read 78 when i slowed to match other traffic in a 55 zone.additionally, i stopped at 3 stop lights and each time the speedometer froze at a higher speed than the previous one (i.e. First stop 40, then 52, then 64).i feel this a major safety concern as myself or another driver of my vehicle will not be able to determine their actual speed and may put others in danger.

Driving down the highway my speedometer reads 10-30+ mph lower then actual speed. Can not find a service recall on this problem though i have had no problem finding hundreds,if not over one thousand others who are experiencing the same problem.

Speedometer acting erraticnow stuck on 120 mphnon functional nowvery expensive fix from gm(new instrument cluster)

Speedometer does not function properly.it will display 70 mph when standing still.it does not display the mph correctly.the needle will not re-zero after ignition is turned off.

I was driving and heard a pop.a couple of miles down the road noticed that my speedometer was way off.it said that i was doing over 100 when i was probably only going about 60.i search and noticed that this is very common with my truck.it's a 2004 chevy silverado with about 33k miles on it.i contacted the service department and asked if it was covered under the extended warranty and she said they would have to scan it and contact the warranty company.

The speedometer suddenly goes to 120 mph and sticks there.it will reset itself within 3 days (usually) but is happening more often now.

Speedometer problems 2004 silverado pegged at 120 mphlarge safety issue, i never know how fast i am going.

Speedometer on my 2004 gm chevy silverado reads drastically different from actual speed while driving, making it impossible to determine actual speed which could cause a crash due to improper speed, or traffic safety violation for improper speed. Gm does not have recall on this safety issue. Gm is aware of this problem with many of its vehicles and demands $500.00 for labor to repair the problem at the owners expense.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado.the contact stated that the speedometer on the instrument control panel was inoperative.she was unable to determine what speed she was traveling.she took the vehicle to the dealer, but they could not identify what component needed to be replaced.the repair would cost $800.she called the manufacturer in reference to a class action lawsuit and was informed that they were not responsible because the vehicle exceeded 80,000 miles.the vehicle has not been repaired.the failure mileage was 50,000. Updated 09/17/08.*ljupdated 09/24/08.

Instrument cluster is failing.first was the speedometer, then the tachometer, followed by oil pressure gauge.i have no idea how fast i am traveling or if my oil pump is working.the speedometer part is a major safety issue to me.from what i have read, there are thousands of gm vehicles with this problem and they refuse to do a recall.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado. He stated that on several occasions the speedometer, oil pressure warning light and rpm light components became inoperable on the instrument panel. The dealer was contacted and advised replacing the entire instrument panel at the owner's expense. The manufacturer would not offer any assistance. No repairs were made to the vehicle to correct the failure. The speed, failure and current mileages were unknown due to the failure on the instrument panel.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado.while driving at various speeds, the speedometer displays inaccurate readings. There was a courtesy recall regarding the instrument panel, but the vehicle has too many miles.the current mileage was 78,000 and failure mileage was 72,000.

Speedometer is erratic, does not reset to zero when stopped.

I have a 2004 silverado s71. It has 35k miles on it at this time.in sept. Of 2006 i noticed that the speedometer was not returning to zero mphsmoothly. It would drop in steps. It is not indicating the correct speed, sometimes it is high and other times it maybe low or not working at all. Now the tach is also acting erratic. Sometimes it works and other times it doesn't, at times it does not return to zero when the engine is turned off or it hangs at some arbitrary point. (1) events leading up to the failure - none.(2) failure and its consequences - received speeding ticket.(3) what was done to correct the failure; i.e, parts repaired or replaced (and if old part is available) . -none at this time.

2004 chevrolet silverado speedometer has stopped working exactly as outlined by the other complaints, speedometer registers randomly with incorrect speed or stuck needle. I called my dealer and parts and labor amounts to around $500.00. I asked a friend of mine who is also a service manager at the dealership if this is a common problem and his response was ?ohhh yeah, i don?t know why they haven?t recalled it yet. Chevrolet may not be considering this a safety issue, but if that is the case why do we even have speed limits? speed limits are intended to provide for the safety of the community, will a person with out a working speedometer be able to stop in time when a child runs out in front them? chevy better hope so.

After i drive about 11 miles the speedometer drops to zero. After about 30 to 40 miles it will run between 20 and 30 miles slow. This happens every day i drive the truck. Why can't general motors get there heads out of the sand and do something about these problems.

2004 silverardo 2500 hd crew cab with 33,000 miles-instrument cluster not working.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado. Immediately after the vehicle was started she noticed that the speedometer moved from 0 to 120 mph without the vehicle moving. The dealer informed the contact that the speedometer needed to be replaced. There were no prior warnings and the vehicle has not been serviced. The current and failure mileages were 154000.

The odometer and instrument panel in my 2004 chevy silverado is not working, meaning that i can not tell how fast or slow i am driving.i was not sure if a safety recall has been issued to make gm repair this free of charge.the speedometer is stuck on 5mph and does not move the entire time i am driving.

Speedometer malfunction dose not show proper speed needle gets stuck at different speeds or starts at different speeds.

Speedometer hangs up and does not register correct speed.

Erratic speed reading on the speedometer of my chevy silverado.

2004 chevreolet silverado - bought newspeedometer malfunctioning (needle hangs up, etc.) at 45,000 miles.

2004 chevy 1500 truck, i received a recall for the dash cluster, all my dash components do not work, the recall is if only there were less than so many miles, now at 90,000 miles, mine quit working, why is a recall only good for so many miles when there is a problem with it.

The cluster panelgauges are all malfunctioning, some have gone completely out i.e. Speedometer, oil gauge, alternator, etc. Fan motor and adapter wires caught fire, shorted out.

I own a 2004 silverado 2500 hd w/allison transmission.the speedometer is faulty.the speed sensor has been replaced but has not fixed the problem.the transmission is ok. The speedometer is erratic.one day it will work...then i'll be driving at 60 mph and the needle drops to zero or shoots up to 120.i have to gauge how fast i am going by the other traffic or look at the rpms.this is a terrible safety hazard.i have already spent $160.when will chevy/gm issue a recall?

Speedometer on my 2004 chevy silverado is acting up.the needle is ticking like a clock as i accelerate and slow down.i have heard and read about many complaints about this same exact problem on this make, model, and year vehicle.

2004 silverado speedometer. The speedometer began failing about a year ago and now fails on trips of 5 miles or more. Speedometer most often begins registering low. It is so gradual that it is not obvious when it begins happening. It will eventually register below zero at any speed. The only way to reliably judge speed is via the tachometer. A few times, it has registered high, so as to read >100 mph at highway speeds. My research shows this is a very common problem with this make/model of gm vehicle. Of course this is a very dangerous situation, especially when it first occurred with me. I am uncertain how fast i was actually going when i realized i was going way too fast in relation to what the speedometer was reporting. I believe the speedometer should be considered a critical piece of safety equipment. In addition, law enforcement requires you to follow posted speed limits, which is difficult when the speedometer is reporting inaccurately. In my opinion, this device should not fail at 35000 miles. Again, in my opinion, this is a manufacturing defect and the consumer should not have to bear the expense for the repair.

Under normal driving conditions the speedometer on some gm trucks will hang when decelerating and when accelerating again the speedometer starts from the position that it hung.the part that is failing is a motor that controls the speedometer and to replace the part you must replace the whole instrument cluster at a cost of $600.it seems to happen right around 50k miles and at that point it is no longer under warranty.it leaves you not knowing how fast you are going as well as not being able to pass a vehicle inspection.

Speedometer has been "jerky" for a month or so. This morning on my commute i set my cruise-control at 65 mph, when i checked my speed again the speedometer was reading 50 mph. I did not reset the cruise control.

Speedodometer changes and may be correct, next time may show off 5 miles an hour, next time may be off 60 miles an hour, may be fast, may be slow.

56000 miles on 2004 chevy silverado and speedometer has been showing 110 when doing 30, showing 0 when doing 70, showing 0 period.

For over 2 years and 30,000 miles the speedometer in my 2004 chevrolet silverado pickup has been sticking. Starting at about 20,000 miles about every 3 or 4 months the speedometer needle would stick at 25 mph, 30 mph or 35 mph. This sticking was where the speedometer needle would stop at when you turned the key off. When the needle would stick it caused the speedo to read incorrect speed. The vehicle was under warranty when this started. I did not take it into the dealership because it would require taking a whole day to take it in and the dealer would not guarantee he would fix it in one visit. The dealer said bring it in. They would check it and order the parts. Then bring it back when the parts arrived. Before wasting the time with the dealer i tried removing the battery cable and allowing the computer system to reset itself.this worked for the first 10 times the speedo stuck.the speedo is stuck again and removing the battery cable over 10 times has not reset the speedo correctly. Gm has known about this speedo problem for over 5 years but is only bandaiding the problem. This speedo problem is a safety issue.

While driving around 65-70mph my speedometer stuck.while slowing down after reaching speeds of nearly 70mph, i realized my speedometer was not backing off of this speed.i then did not know how fast i was driving.the speedometer is now stuck at 67mph. From what i understand i will have to replace this actual unit for $500.i have seen this same issue all over forums on the web.

Speedometer failure : needle pegs at 120 and will not return to 0, fluctuates.

Speedometer inoperative.

Speedometer, is all over the place 20mph to 110mph, you never know how fast you are going without checking the rpms or a stop watch.

My 2004 silverado just reached 40,000 miles when my speedometer stopped functioning.it's stopped at 120 mph and want go down.

Failure of speedometer and tachometer gauges.needles pegged.no idea how fast truck is traveling.

I have a 2004 2500 chevy truck the speedometer will sometimes start at 0 and sometimes at 60 mph and sometimes at 30 mph i called the dealer and they told me to bring it in.they said they would keep my truck for 2 days.they knew just what was wrong with in.they want $350 dollars to do this.i don't think i should have to pay for a defect on the speedometer. Not for sure on when i bought the truck.

Dear sirs, my son is driving our 2004 chevy silverado pickup and he is 16 yo. The vehicle has less than 50k miles and the speedometer started malfunctioning last week. It indicates the speed at 20-50 mph less than actual. I am aware of a forum on topix.net that has more than 327 complaints of this very problem. Surely there is a safety concern here with the possibilities of excessive speed due to the inaccuracies of the speedometer! please let me know what the status of your concerns regarding this issue. Thanks for your time!respectfully, david w. Freidberg md facs.

Speedometer failure.

2004 chevroletsilverardo - ext cap, 4wd, ls,faulty speedometer.

The speedometer has quit working. This is common on 2004 chevy trucks like the one i own. I have asked around and it is a common repair. The failure of a speedometer is a serious failure of a safety device on any vehicle.

- the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado z71.the contact stated that the speedometer did not accurately register the speed being driven in this vehicle.even when not driving the speedomenter registered a speed.the contact stated that the engine light has been on80% of the time since heowned the vehicle.updated 2/22/2007 -

The speedometer quit working at 40000 miles. Checking on line there are hundreds possibly even thousands defective speedometers. This is a safety problem and the dealer stated it would cost $500 to fix and take two days.

My 2004 chevy truck was recalled because of instrument panel malfunctions.a recall has been issued; however, it seems to me that the plan to correct this has arbitrary recall parameters, ie 7 year/70,000 miles.my vehicle is 3 years old and has 96,000 miles and has experienced this malfunction.i did contact chevy but no concrete repair plan was established.

Failure of 2004 chevy silverado instrument cluster.

My chevrolet 2004 silverado ls does not read the speed correctly. Sometimes it does not move and others it will have me going 110 when i am doing 45 mph.

Speedometer malfunction.sometimes it reads twice the speed i'm doing or more and sometimes it reads half the speed i'm doing.it varies.

The gauge cluster on my 2004 chevy silverado has 6 gauges and after 2 years 3 of the gauges no longer work. The 3 that no longer work are the speedometer, tachometer, and voltmeter.with the speedometer no longer working it is very dangerous.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that the speedometer on his vehicle was faulty. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that instead of just repairing the speedometer, they needed to replaced the entire instrument cluster. The dealer was contacted and stated that they were aware of the failure but were unable to help since thewarranty had expired. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 95,000 and the current mileage was 98,000. Updated 3/14/11 the consumer was informed chevrolet would replace the instrument cluster up to 5,000 miles and they would bill the consumer $500-700 to have theinstrument cluster replaced since the vehicle had over 95,000 miles. Updated 03.21.11.

04 silverado with 46,000 miles, speedometer has malfunctioned. Sometimes will be pegged while stopped, sometimes will read 60 when stopped. I think gm should replace these obviously defective parts, plus pay for all tickets acquired in these defective vehicles. Obviously there is a "trend" here people(nhtsa),when i get my next new truck ($30,000-$40,000), i may be looking elsewhere. Truck is not fixed yet, but will be contacting the dealer tomorrow to hear "their sob story". Have never received a letter from anyone regarding this, but did acquire the vehicle new,off the lot.

Speedometer is sometimes pinned at 120mph sometimes 60 mph when parked . Does not work at all. This is a known gm instrument panel cluster program & the truck is a 2004 under 4 years old but they won't do anything to pay for this known problem because i am over the mileage. Not my fault it broke after 70thousand miles . It has happened to many others earlier & they can get it fixed for free. If it was a defected panel it should be fixed regardless of the mileage for a truck under 4 years old.

I own a 2004 chevy silverado.about 2 years ago, my instrument panel quit working.because my mileage exceeded the number set by gm, gm will not honor the recall on 2003-2005 gm vehicles.my wife has experienced the same problem.

I too have a 2004 silverado. My speedometer went out . At first it registered zero. Later it went up to over 120 and stayed off the scale for the entire trip. This occurs now everytime i drive the vehicle.

Speedometer was stuck on 50 mph and never moves lower.unable to tell what speed one is traveling.

2004 silverado 1500 4 door. Under normal driving conditionsthe speedometer started registering way too high... Dead stop, the speedometer reads about 30-45 mph.normal driving with flow of traffic on interstate displayedas greater than 120 mph.

The speedometer maulfunctions resulting in display of incorrect speed. Gm acknowledges the equipment failure and will not honor the recall.

My speedometer on my 2004 silverado functions incorrectly.it reads anywhere between 30 and 120 and i have no idea what my speed is.apparently thousands and thousands of owners are having this problem.this is apparently a safety issue and there most definitely should be a recall.

November 10, 2007, i wrote the following letter to:general motors100 renaissance centerp.o. Box 100detroit, mi 48265-1000certified mail number:7007 1490 0000 9298 4767to whom it may concern:i have received your letter regarding the 2004 model year chevrolet silverado whereby general motors is providing extended warranty on the instrument panel.general motors wrote:"this letter is intended to make you aware that your vehicle could develop a condition where one or more of the instrument panel gauge needles may stick, flutter, or become inoperative."however, general motors also wrote:"if the condition occurs on your 2004 model year chevrolet silverad within 7 years of the date your vehicle was originally placed in service or 70,000 miles, whichever occurs first, the condition will be repairedfor you at no charge."frankly, i find the mileage restriction ludicrous!either the instrument panel is defective or it is not!moreover, if the instrument panel fails when driving, especially at night, public safety becomes an issue.........

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated they received a letter approximately one year ago from the manufacturer stating that the instrument panel warranty was extended to seven years and 70,000 miles. In addition, the contact was advised not to bring the vehicle in under the warranty unless the fuel gauge had completely failed.the contact stated that the speedometer had been stuck at 120 mph. Later, the speedometer independently dropped below zero and remained stuck there. In addition, the engine rpm gauge would fluctuate sporadically but the engine would not respond. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that the failures were not covered under the extended warranty for the instrument panel and was advised that the entire instrument panel would need to be replaced. The failure mileage was 116,000 and the current mileage was 117,000. Updated 7/18/12

2004 chevy silverado speedometer will not return to zero.speed reading are erratic. You do not know at what speed you are driving.

Speedometer and tachometer work sometimes.now don't work at all.

04 chevy silverado speedometer not working.

Speedometer failure @48000 miles.it would work intermittently but most times it was too fast or too slow.the entire instrument cluster had to be replaced at the dealership.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that the instrument panel would not illuminate at night to display pertinent information, such as the speedometer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 277,638.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado. While driving 70 mph for 20 minutes using the cruise control, the speedometer reading was 95 mph and the rpm was 2000. He didn't notice any warning indicator lights at the time of the failure. After coming to a complete stop, the speedometer read 45 mph. The dealer stated that the electrical instrument control panel clusters needed to be replaced. He has not called the manufacturer. The failure and current mileages were 32,640.

2004 chevy silverado speedometer started to stick at around 55 mph then start working, this went on for about two months, then it pegged out at 120 mph and has stuck while driving, when truck is at idle it sets at 70 mph.

Speedometercompletely failed, right after truck turned 100,000 miles.

I have a 2004 chevrolet silverado with a serious safety issue!the speedometer works intermittently and when the needle actually moves the speed that registers is no where near correct.the dealer wants $600 to fix it but apparently it is well known that chevy's are having an issue with the speedometer.i have had to resort to hooking up my laptop computer with gps to be able to monitor my speed!!gm needs to recall!!

The speedometer in my 2004 chevrolet silveado began malfunctioning early this spring, and has progressively gotten worse. Currently when parked it registers between 50-120 mph, then pegs when driving. So i never know how fast i am going. The replacement instrument cluster costs nearly $600.00 for the part only, not including labor to replace it.of course none of this is covered by the warranty, or even the extra warranty we purchased when we bought the truck used.

I own a 2004 chevrolet silverado 1500 and yesterday the speedometer began reading incorrectly.now it currently reads 65 mph at both a standstill and when the truck is turned off.at regular surface street speeds (40-50 mph) the speedometer reads approx. 95 mph.i called gm in detroit and the denied any knowledge of the problem being widespread and referred me to a dealer who quoted me a price of $495.00 to repair the speedometer.what about the other gauges in my instrument cluster?how long till they fail?more importantly, how much will it cost for the repairs?

Speedometer malfunction in most of the 2004 chevy silverado's i have driven in. I own 1 silverado. The company i work for owns several 2004 silverado's. Everyone i have driven along with the boss truck all have the same speedometer malfunction is a safety issue. People need to know how fast they are going.

When the outside air temperature gets approximately 75 degrees, especially over 85 degrees, the vehicle's horn will not operate.it has been a problem since the vehicle was delivered new.it has been to the dealer for repair 3 times.each time it is claimed to have been fixed. Yet, once the outside temp goes up the horn will not work. After some time while driving it may operate intermittently.it is a serious hazard since, during warm weather, it is likely to not work in an emergency. On at least 5 occasions it failed during an emergency when i tried to use the horn.i registered a complaint with general motors (file no 1-413956517) but they have been non-responsive.

Dt:the contact stated vehicle stalled intermittently.the dealer replaced the fuel pump on two separate occasions.this did not correct the problem.also, the dealerreplaced the ignition system.this replacement did not correct the problem again.the dealer could notfind the cause for the problem.the vehicle is still having intermittent stalling. Problems.

Dt*: the contact stated after turning the ignition switch to the off position, the engine continued to run.the battery cables and the fuses were pulled and the engine continued running for another 45 minutes.as the vehicle was driven to the dealer the transmission would not shift out of third gear and the dashboard lights illuminated.the dealer determined the problem was in the ignition switch and the switch was replaced.updated 10/30/2006 -

Dt:caller stated ha a lemon for a vehicle.caller said 6 months ago it started acting up and it got worsesometimes it will start and sometimes it wont. Sh had the vehicle in the repairshop 3 times in one week for the same problem. Dealer said they fixed it. Caller thought they didn't know what the problem was.manufacturer said they would write up a complaint and get back to her. Caller had a fuel pump, wiring harness, distributor cap, wire from coil to sensor replaced.

I bought this truck in feb 2004 and it has been in the shop numerous times for wiring harness repairs.then when it is out of the 36000 miles warranty, it has problems again and the dealership then tells me they will need to replace the wiring harness at about $1500 out of my pocket and a rental fee. I throw a fit and therefore they decide to let me have the wiring harness on their behalf but i will have to pay labor and my own rental.after it was all said and done i was out $900 and don't feel that i should of had to pay that because if they had replaced it after it had been in the shop 4 times within 8 months i wouldn't of had to be replacing it out of my own pocket.i called and asked them to reimburse me labor and rental costs and they said no and the person who made the decision refused to discuss the situation with me.

In june 2006 the truck was taken to pinkerton chevrolet because of a hot wire smell.the dealership said they could not duplicate the smell.an oil change was done at the same time. Approximately 7 weeks later the truck shut off.my husband attempted to restart the truck to no avail. He left the truck in the off position and went for help.he returned 20 minutes later to find that the truck caught on fire in the cab. The dome light was on but the doors were shut. The dealership says they think rats got into the engine but there was no fire in the engine only in the cab.the truck is moved everyday.we have two other trucks and a camper that is stationary all the time and they have no rat nests in them.we have no tall grass around our house or in our yard.the truck sat at the dealership in the tall grass for a week before it was even looked at after the incident. My husband regularly does safety checks on the vehicles and never saw any rat nests, gnawing, or droppings in the motor compartment.the dealership is refusing to look at whether or not the supposed rats really caused the fire. The dealership says that my insurance needs to pay for it.the truck was at the shop a month before and yet there was no thorough check up on the truck while it was there.this is a very expensive truck to just go up in flames. The dealership is fixing the truck on the assumption that my insurance is going to cover it because they have no intention of doing it themselves.

New silverado the two batteries go dead in a few days of no use.after three service trips to dealer. They tell me not to leave the tow package switch on. So instead of fixing the short, they tell me not to use this option. I am fear this may cause a fire. Also when i took a test drive all the silverado's on the lot were dead and had to be jump started.

Truck cut out while on the freeway; able to get it restarted.later while trying to get home it stalled in the middle of an intersection.chevy service dealer knew exactly what it was-- he told me it was due to a broken wire primary at coil connector.that this happens all the time. Part was replaced at a cost of $141.37.if this part is defective why is not recalled?

Trailer brake wiring harness. I recently purchased a trailer which required a electronic brake. After having the braking system installed by the manufacturer of the trailer i was informed of the problem with the braking harness on the vehicle. I then called the dealer for more information, they recommended i take it to another trailer dealer and have it looked at. That's when i found out that the wiring harness was only receiving 4 volts, the braking system requires 12 volts.

My speedometer needle started to stick on a higher speed and not come down. It would return to zero if i started and stopped the engine multiple times. This condition gradually worsened until it was stuck on "pegged", even when parked. I had no idea how fast i was going. Also, the speed control would not engage. I had to stop the vehicle and turn off the engine, then proceed before it would work again. I took it to the dealer for the speedometer. They were aware of the speedometer problem and one person insinuated it was a very common problem. They replace the "cluster" (?). They would not allow me to have the old parts and charged me $450.00! i speak for myself and others with this problem,"we need help!"

After 15 months of operation, the speedometer started acting strangely and finally failing completely after 18 months.the vehicle was well under warranty.took it in and the dealer said that they had to backorder and the new speedometer would be in within a couple of weeks. That was 5 months ago.still no resolve to the problem.i haven't had a speedometer in 5 months.when i complained to gm, they said they would give me 12,000 miles and/or 1 year extra of warranty.what actually happened is they started the 12mos / 12,000 miles at that particular moment which decreases my originally warranty by 1 month and 4500 miles.

Vehicle shifted very hard, andthere was an incident of shutting down. Also, dashboardlights flashed on and off. Dealer could not duplicate the problem.

Dt*:the contact stated the speedometer became inoperable.the dealership determined the instrument cluster needed to be replaced.

Instrument cluster on 2004 chevrolet 2500 hd starts going out and the speedometer and tachometer cannot be depended on. When this is happening and you have the cruise control on who knows how fast you are really going.i feel there should be a recall since chevy has them designed to where they generally go out just as the warranty goes out. Why should we wait until this causes a wreck.

The connector to the fan blower motor resistor burned up and melted on my 2004 chevrolet silverado 1500. The technician that worked on this vehicle said that the connector shorted out, causing the resistor plug to burn up. He also stated that this was common in certain gm vehicles. Chevrolet said there was no problem.

Dt: the contact stated the speedometer stopped working without warning. He took the vehicle to a local dealership to be checked. They determinedthe instrument cluster panelwas faulty.thiscaused the speedometer to malfunction.he contacted the manufacturer, and they approved the repairs to be made without cost to thecontact.

The dash board cluster went out and the truck is only a year old, the expenseand the delay in getting it fixed due to the back log of clusters needing repaired.it took seven days for the part to come in.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that the vehicle was blowing cold air and the defroster failed.the vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated the cylinder head had cracked. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure however provided no further assistance. The failure mileage was 110,000. The current mileage was 112,000.

I have the castech heads on my truck that are known for getting cracks in them and leaking anitifreeze into the engine.the way it sounds there should of been a recall on these heads, this isn't a normal wear and tear deal.why should the consumer pay for the cost of replacing something that obviously is a manufacturer defect since more than just one person is complaining.it seems like also that gm has helped a few people and then told others that they can't help.

Engine lost power in heavy traffic at highway speed due premature failure of diesel fuel injector.come to find out injector have known defect and high failure rate.

After discovering an exhaust leak performed a visual inspection of the engine. I have a 2004 silverado with the 6.0l. I ave discovered that there are an abundance of these vehicles out there with the same problem. This is causing exhaust fumes to enter the engine compartment and cab of the vehicle.

Exhaust manifold bolt on driver side at rearmost part of engine has broken off.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the check engine light illuminated and the vehicle suddenly stalled. The contact indicated that after restarting the engine the vehicle operated as normal. The contact also indicated that the passenger side seat belt had malfunctioned and the passenger was unable to move while the seat belt was in the locked position. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defect but no solution was offered. The failure mileage was 130,000.

I went out to leave for a meeting and started my truck.i heard a ticking noise that i had not heard prior to this morning.i opened the hood to investigate the cause of the ticking and discovered on the left bank one of the exhaust manifold bolts was missing the head.i then went around to the right bank and noticed that the exhaust manifold was broken completely about mid way of the manifold.i have owned this vehicle since it was new off the dealership and have had very little issue with it until this issue popped up.i have done some research and discovered that this is a major problem affecting chevrolet and gm vehicles with 8 cylinder engines.this vehicle is used as a daily driver and is not used for commercial towing, nor is it used for towing on a regular basis.

Vehicle over heated while towing a 10k lbs 5th wheel trailer, vehicle is rated to tow 17k lbs 5th wheel trailer.

The vehicle shuts down and lurched forward when it was cold and during inclement weather. This made itdifficult for driverto maintain control of the vehicle, increasing the chance of a crash. Took to dealer for checkup, but results showed that the cause was undetermined.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado.the contact stated that the vehicle exhibited an abnormal knocking from the engine.the dealer diagnosed that fuel was leaking into the engine abnormally.the manufacturer was contacted but denied any assistance with repairs to the failure.the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred.the failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 150,000. The vin was not available.

About 1 month after buying a new 2004 silverado it started surging viloently when cold.it is inconsistant, sometimes lasts for blocks.i almost got rear ended last week while tryig to control the truck.gm refuses to do anything, saying there is no diagnosis codes set and they have never heard of silverado`s surging.they class it as a feature and say i need to feather the clutch.feathering the clutch in traffic is a good way to get killed.this has been going on about 4 months now.i believe they know what is wrong and it is happening with more then just my one truck; but they don't want to spend the money to fix it.

While pulling inside of the garage the consumer applied the brakes and the pedal went to the floor. The vehicle stopped by hittingthe house wall. The braking before the crash caused the abs and the engine lights to appear on the dashboard which remained on. The consumer was able to drive to the dealer for inspection.the mechanic informed the driver that the problem could not be duplicated.

My '04 chevy silverado hd2500 with duramax overheats when towing.

While pulling my trailer my truck overheats and when it gets hot it will take all the power from the motor making a hazard and a safety issue.i have been taking it to the dealer for one year and the say nothing is wrong with it.

Light ticking noise from engine from about 30,000 miles by 45,000 miles the noise is much more noticeable like lifters tapping. Failure was with one of the cam shaft lobes chipping off a substantial piece of metal ( brake failure as opposed to being wiped ). The repair has not yet been completed but will require new cam shaft, lifters, head bolts, gasket kit.

2004 chevrolet silverado stalled while driving at 21000 miles.when the vehicle stalled, the dash read "reduced engine power."the vehicle would not re-start, steering and the braking was limited.the vehicle finally restarted but there was no power, the vehicle idled roughly and would not travel above 3-5 miles per hour.the vehicle was diagnosed with a throttle actuator code.the throttle actuator was replaced.*sc

Engine noise at idle. Ticking which sounds like lifters or injectors hanging up.

2004 chevrolet silverado experienced complete shutdown while driving in traffic.*mrthe manufacturer replaced the ignition switch, fuel pump, computer module and installed engine diagnostic system to monitor the truck.due to all the problems the consumer experienced the manufacturer replaced the truck.

The truck has been to the dealership 4 times. Each time, they say that nothing is wrong.one dealer in monterey said that the injectors are from a 2003 model truck and are smaller than the 2004 sleeves, therefore allowing diesel and oil to leak into the crankcase. The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado diesel. Thecontact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, thevehicle would overheat. The failure would only occur when traveling on flat road surfaces, uphill or when pulling a trailer. The contact would shut off the engine until the engine was cooled in order to drive the vehicle any further. In addition, the contact stated if he would drive while the vehicle was running hot, it would stall. The dealer advised the vehicle was not under recall and repairs would be at the expense of the owner.the approximate current mileage is 143,000. I own a 2004 chevy 2500hd with a lly duramax and the trucks overheats evrytime i pull a trailer that weighs 2000lbs or 12000lbs it does not matter. I think you need to help us out that own this model and year of truck and make gm fix it.

2004.5 lly 2500hd silverado duramax towing 1700 lund prosport in ~85 degree ambient.i was required to turn of the a/c and limit the power as the engine temp continued to climb beyond 210 and into the 235-240 degree range.this is a constant probelm with this engine under minimal load.dealer has no fix for this truck which is still under warranty and gm keeps saying they are working on the problem.if i continued operating my truck as normal the engine would sustain overheating damage thus causing great damage to components further down the road.

2004.5 chevy silverado 2500 duramax overheats on several occasions to 258 deg while towing 9000lb trailer 2 times transmissions has gone to 270 deg and has gone into a protective mode while climbing a hill causing us to nearly get rear endeddue to no place to pull over and extremely slow speeds took to dealer 6 times with no fix. Dealer refuses to go on road test and says vehicle is operating normally this presents and immediate danger due to slow speeds, possibility of a fire and the damage to my truck from over heating.

On three separate occasions while applying the brake pedal it wentto the floor.the vehicle failed to stop.the driver was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection.however, the mechanic could not duplicate the problem at this time.the abs/brake light stayed on, there was an intermittent rattle in the flywheel, the consumer stated that the clutch has no "throw." *sc

Ac troubles: i own two 2004 chevrolet silverado trucks. At least once a week and sometimes several times in one day, the two drivers side vent blow hot air while the other two passenger vents blow cold air as normal.

This truck has had actually 3 of these put on the first one was app.june 2011 the second time was sept.19th 2011 these last time it had melted all of the wires under the kick panel on thepassenger side which this controls the a/c and the heat blower which could have been indanger of starting a fire.this truck should not have had to have 3 of these put on!!!!!!!!!!

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado.whenever the contact activated the air conditioning dual climate control, he noticed that the driver's side vents would suddenly blow out hot air.the vehicle was previously serviced for this failure and the dealer replaced the actuator.the vehicle has not been diagnosed again by the dealer.the current and failure mileages were 75,031.

The vehicle has problems shifting from first to second gear. Sometimes the gears change smoothly, and other times there is a thumping sound accompanied by jerking.this problem has occurred at least four times in the last month.in addition whenmaking the transition from a low speed to a higher speed the vehicle's transmission would not engage into the proper gear.this made it seem like the vehicle was in neutral. The dealer fixed the problem with a retrofit kit and the vehicle seems to be working fine.the vehicle's cd player was not functioning properly.the dealer replaced and reprogrammed the cd player.

While placing the jack underneath the vehicle it slipped off. Consumer drove the vehicle to the dealer, and mechanic determined that the jack operated as designed.

I have surveyed gm trucks/suvs/vans when meeting them in the incoming lane. It quite apparent that they have a problem with the drls. I have caluclated that 3% of them have a burned out light. Start wathing for them on your daily drives and you will see what i mean.

Headlights do not light well due to condensation, especially in the rain and at night. This decreases the visibility on the road.

The high beam indicator is too bright on my 2004 chevrolet 3500 drw cc pickup.at night, the light is bright enough to impair the vision of the driver.everytime i drive my truck at night (which is alot in the wintertime in alaska when we have reduced daylight hours) the high beam indicator is so bright that i have had to cover it to reduce the glare and not limit my visibility of oncoming vehicles, moose, pedestrians, etc.

I was driving home from errand running and found the brake pedal going almost to the floor. Found a puddle of brake fluid under the truck near the back of the cab and bed of truck. Called my service person and he said it was probably a ruptured brake line, and from the description of where the puddle was it was probably above the gas tank where the line is secured to the frame. He also stated that he has repaired multiple chevy trucks with the same problem. I have seen the underside of my truck and all the lines are rusted, including fuel and transmission cooling lines.

I was traveling on a side road after leaving my home and as i approached the stop sign at the intersection of a main road i applied the brakes and the peddle went all the way to the floor. I actually went right through the stop sign and almost hit another car traveling on the main road. On inspection of the vehicle i found that the brake lines that travel from under the hood along the frame to the anti-lock module are all severely rusted and one had a hole in it. This is a dangerous situation and gm need to do something about it. I am very upset about this because there were little kids in the car i almost hit and i would hate to think of what could have happened. I also noticed that the fuel lines in the same area are also very rotted. This doesn't usually happen unless the vehicle is much older.

I was notified by a gm service center that the brake lines were very rusty and needed replacing.. While replacing the brake lines, i was told that the fuel lines were leaking, needing replacement and also the fuel sender unit needed replacingdue to corrosion. This was a very costly repair and should not happen on a low mileage vehicle. I was told that this is a big problem on many gm trucks. I think i should be reimbursed for these repairs.

3 times while climbing a hill, the engine has suddenly, without warning, lost all power, then died leaving me coasting down the highway.engine is very hard to restart, but will restart if it sits for a few minutes.if this were to occur in an area where i cannot get off the highway, or while passing someone, it could be catastrophic. This has always occured while climbing a hill.was returned to gm dealer after the first occurance, they stated it showed a lean code, they had no idea what to do.a week later, it stalled twice on one trip.was returned to gm dealer again, they put another ground wire on the computer, said they had been having computer problems in vehicles lately.i have been afraid to let family in it and have not driven it since the last trip to gm dealer.

2004 chevrolet silverado stalled, and died, the engine warning light came on, and the message center on the dash read " reduced engine power".the truck would not restart and steering and braking was limited.the consumer pulled off the road and checked under the hood for signs of failure, none were found.the vehicle as restarted but it had no power, idled roughly and would go no faster than 3-5 mph.this problem recurred two more times.the problem was diagnosed at the dealer with a throttle actuator code, the throttle was replaced.the dealer believed the problem was with the fuel pump module because he had replaced several on similar vehicle, but since the code didn't come up during diagnostic he was unsure.the consumer mention a service bulletin (document id 1538353, #pip3022a- dated july 19, 2004) which the dealer was aware of.the consumer had the dealer remove the tank and indeed the fuel pump module on the truck had the same part numbermentioned in the service bulletin.the manufacturer has refused any financial assistance.

Problems.

2004 chevy silverado had a bad fuel pump. Consumer thinks that gmc should have a better quality fuel pump.*nj

While driving vehicle front left steel brake line burst due to excessive rust. After inspecting the remaining lines under the vehicle all of the metal lines , including the fuel and power steering lines are excessively rusted to the point they needed to be replaced.the repair cost 1200 dollars.

While driving at approximately 60 mph vehicle lost power, and then itshut down, causing the vehicle to losebrakes, andpower steering . Dashboard got completely blank. Owner took the vehicle to the dealer and contacted the manufacturer. Vehicle is currently out of warranty.

While driving 65 mph fuel injectionsystem failed. This caused the vehicle to back fire. However, vehicle still drivable.dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

Dt:the fuel tank fell off the vehicle.the consumer noticed this problem on september 10, 2005.the consumer has not taken vehicle to a dealership yet.the consumer believed that two bracketsbroke, causing the tank to hang close to the road.the consumer felt that it was dangerous to move the vehicle because of the fuel tank being so close to the ground.the fuel tank was repaired.

Steel brake, fuel and transmission lines are extremely rusty and failure appears to be imminent, especially on brake lines. This should be a safety recall.

Exhaust manifold bolt on driver side at rearmost part of engine has broken off.

High beam indicator is too bright when driving the vehicle during night time hours on very dark roadways. The high beam indicator illuminates too brightly back to the drivers eyes and causes unnecessary periphery eye strain. This is a safety issue and an inconveinence to the operator of the vehicle when high beam operation is needed for safe road visiblity.

The instrument panel clusters overly bright high beam indicator distracted the driver and caused a near miss accident with a deer crossing the roadway. When driving the vehicle on very dark roadways the high beam indicator glows too intense back into the driver's eyes.

The passenger side door could not be unlocked from the outside because the door handle was covering the lock cylinder.

In extremely cold weather, -20 degrees or colder, the doors fail to unlock using the remote or the key.the dealer stated that gm does not care to address the situation.the dealer then took the front panels off and either applied grease or removed grease.the front doors now unlock but the back doors won't(crew cab).

Dt:parking brake would stay engaged but would not prevent vehicle from rolling.when the parking brake was in place the vehicle would still roll as if the parking brake was not engaged.received a recall notice concerning theparking brake.tookvehicle to a dealer for recall repairs.dealer completed the recall repairs.however, the parking brake issue has not been remedied.the parking brake will still allow the vehicle to roll. Consumer has not contacted chevroletmanufacturer.contacted dealership, who said this was a design problem ,and the parking brake would not hold a heavy duty pickup, and there was nothing else they could do. , no further repairs.this vehicle was purchased for a government contract.the consumer was told by the dealer that the parking brake is too small for this pickup and that the consumer should not trust it to hold the vehicle in place.

Recall 05042 was completed on my 3500 series silverado used as a tow truck. This recall has not fixed the problem and repeated calls have ended with they will fix the problem as long as it is paid out of pocket. No parking brake on a tow truck is a very serious problem. As of yet no accidents have occurred.

While parked on a incline consumer applied the parking brake and it failed, causing the vehicle to roll down a hill. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and pulled over. Vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection.the cause had not been determined.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that transmission fluid was leaking from the hydro boost without warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the technician stated that the hydro boost would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 120,000.

Dt*:the contact stated while making a left or right hand turn the steering wheel became difficult to turn.this occurred on normal roads during normal steering.the vehicle was taken to the dealership for inspection.upon inspection, the dealership replaced the steering shaft however, the problem still exists.the manufacturer was alerted.updated 3/9/2006 - left front axle front seals leaked.the consumer heard noise in the rear end.the power steering pump flow control was replaced.the body control module was replaced.the front differential shaft seal were replaced.the tires were chopped due to alignment being out of adjustment.driver's door had to be realigned. Master cylinder was replaced.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the reduced engine power warning message illuminated as the vehicle decelerated to 15 mph. The contact depressed the accelerator pedal all the way to the floorboard but the vehicle would not accelerate. The failure recurred intermittently through out the years and the dealer replaced the electrical harness, the throttle grounding wire, throttle body and the fuel cap, but to no avail. The dealer could not diagnose the problem. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 200,000.

Applied brakes at a stop sign and the brake pedal went to the floor.total loss of stopping ability.after using the parking brake to stop.looked under the truck to see brake fluid dripping from the frame of the truck.all brake lines and the transmission cooler lines corroded and 2 burst.all need to be replaced.clearly the silverado has an issue with this and the entire undercarriage rusting beyond comparable year & mileage trucks.i have never had a vehicle under carriage in this condition regardless of age and this truck hasn't achieved 10 years off the lot yet.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that after parking and exiting the vehicle, she heard an abnormal clicking noise as the vehicle started to roll away in reverse. While attempting to stop the vehicle, the driver's door opened and slammed her to the ground, traveling over both of her legs. The vehicle then crashed into a fence. A police report was filed. The contact sustained damage to the nerves and arteries of her legs. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 154,000.

Steel brake, fuel and transmission lines are extremely rusty and failure appears to be imminent, especially on brake lines. This should be a safety recall.

My vehicle is a 2004 chevrolet silverado k2500 ext lwb 4wd with approximately 21,000 miles. I have used the four wheel drive feature off and on as needed to negotiate slick road conditions without any problems prior to this incident, which occurred on 12/23/08:while driving in four wheel drive, high range, at approximately 20 mph on an ice covered road the front wheels locked up without warning, causing me to lose control and skid off the road. Had i been going faster, or if i had been in a traffic situation, there could have been a serious accident, possibly resulting in injuries or death. This front wheel lock up condition is still present as long as the four wheel drive selector is in either high or low range. In two wheel drive the problem is not evident. I have made an appointment with the selling dealer to diagnose the problem, but as yet i do not know the root cause of this malfunction.although this incident was a near miss, i am reporting it because of the serious nature and the hope that a safety recall may be issued so that other accidents may be avoided.

Failure of the neutral position safety switch, 2004 chev silverado diesel with allison transmission. The safety switch shorts out and fails due to wet driving conditions. This failure results in the transmission going into a "fail safe" condition that does not allow the transmission to shift, stranding the vehicle. Chevrolet has redesigned the part now 3 times, but will not warranty or stand behind their product. This switch has failed on me twice during snow conditions.

2004 chevrolet silverado. At about 20,000 miles the truck started to hesitate whenever i would take off from a red light, it would do this about once a month or so. At 30,000 miles or so, it would kind of jump into gear when first taking off or jump into reverse. Dealer would say they test drive at each oil change but could not find nothing, i was sure they wouldn't because it didn't happen every time. Now it's occurring every other week or so. Finally at 76,000 miles it wouldn't get pass second gear, dealer finally found a problem and now it's $2800 to replace parts. No heavy city driving, i only live 5 minutes from work. I put the truck on the highway once a month to travel about 300 miles round trip. The only time the dealer wrote anything down, i discovered, was after the warranty expired. I talked with another 2007 silverado owner and they have 17,000 miles and the transmission is jumping into gear.

2004 chevrolet silverado experiencing problems with transmission.*mr....transmission bangs when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear and downshifts hard from 3rd to 2nd gear. Reported problem to dealer in february 2004 at 3796 miles. Repaired on march 2, 2004 as per bulletin 1430080. Problem recurred and was reported to dealer inoctober 2004, and dealer indicated it was normal as per bulletin 1430424. At this time, service manager provided bulletin 1538220 whichstated that problem was corrected in transmission built after february 2004. Problem again recurred in november 2004 and march 2005, and dealer stated that it was just excessive drive linelash. Consumer reported this to gm, and they increased warranty terms to5 years/75000 miles. Consumer claimed warranry was no help because if dealer won'r correct problem now they won'r correct it later.

Dt:2004 chevrolet silverado.the consumer states that the transmission has a slip in it and it stalls.the dealership insists there is nothing wrong with the vehicle and it cannot be fixed.the vehicle hesitates and then clangs when it catches into gear.the manufacturer stated they need to speak with the dealership before they could make a decision.the problem has been occurring since approximately february 2005.this does not happen all of the time.

After towinga trailer and putting the vehicle in reverse vehicle jumped and tore a piece of rubber out of the tire. Dealer stated that the vehicle was repaired. However, the transmission jumped from second gear to reverse without warning. Consumer stated that the dealer said there was no code set, and to continue driving, but the consumer refused.

I have a 2004 chevrolet silverado z71 pickup crewcab and a clunking began in the transmission around 2000 miles and has worsened. The truck now has 19,000 miles and the dealer said there was not a problem and it was normal for this truck. I know this is a problem from doing some searching on the internet and want to know what will be done to correct the problem.

Hard shifting from 1st to 2nd gear - slipping into overdrive - eventually failing to upshift untill rpm reached aprx 3500.

1.noticed transmission slipping over the last few months2.a few weeks ago, the tail light, right turn signal and cruise control and dash lights started malfunctioning3.recently, the paint around rear passenger door and roof is peeling.

Truck will not move initially when put into drive or reverse after it has been parked and just been started .automatic transmission seems to loose fluid in torque converter after setting.this has been since new and is getting worse.

Three year old child took vehicle out of park and the vehicle rolled and crashed into the carport.*mrthe consumer requested compensation for the damage to the vehicle but was denied.the representative indicated that there was a design change therefore he could not received compensation.

Consumer complained about atransmission problem.when drivingtransmission sounded and rode roughly. Consumer took the vehicle todealer on three occasions . Dealer wasunable to determine the cause of failure.manufacturer was also contacted.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado. The contactstated when shifting into drive from a complete stop, the transmission would slip into neutral. The contact would attempt to accelerate but the vehicle was resistant. When removing his foot from the brake, the vehicle would independently roll backward. The vehicle was left with the dealer where the contact was awaiting repairs. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 27,000.

2500hd w/allison transmission.have taken truck in several times to dealer because while backing up in reverse the tranny surges.dealer keeps saying that they can't duplicate the problem

A clunk sound emanates from the driveline of my 2004 silverado mostly when shifting from 2nd to 3rd and from 3rd to 2nd. The clunk also occurs between no acceleration and accelleration while in 2nd gear. Occasionally the noise occurs between 1st and 2nd gear. The problem began at approximately 2000 miles. It has gotten worse as i now approach 20,000 miles. I am concerned about a driveline failure or damage to driveline components due to repeated torsional impacts.

While backing up the vehicle would jerk back and surge.truck would not stop changing rmp unless it was taken out of reverse, put into neutral then put back in reverse.this is an intermittent problem.transmission problems.the vehicle was taken to the dealer but they were unable to find the cause of the problem.(2004 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd with and allison 1000 automatic transmission).

When vehicle has been driven for less than 2-3 miles and when transmission is cold the following occurs:when the vehicle operator stops at an intersection, stop sign, or street corner - the engine and transmission continues to propel the vehicle forward while the brakes are applied.the result is that the brakes are fighting against the engine.the vehicle operator must put the vehicle in neutral to stop the vehicle.in many cases, the vehicle travels well into the intersection or well past the normal stopping point before it finally comes to a halt.the result has been several near colliisions with cross traffic.the dealer has been consulted, but the response has been: "unable to duplicate the problem - all systems operating correctly""this is not true!!this vehicle has only 16,000 miles and is 18 mos old - but this has occurred nearly 10 times.the most recent is 12/2/05.

Dt:when the vehicle sits on a grade it will roll backwards when in drive.the transmission will read a false neutral on level ground. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealershipand they replaced the transmission, but theproblem recurred.this vehicle has a 4l80e transmission.the problem started approximately a months after purchasing the vehicle.has not hit anything yet, but has come close on several occasions.a service writer at groth brothers chevrolet toldconsumer it was normal for the vehicle to do this. Consumer hasa case open at general motors #1-258070464.

Vehicle shifted very hard, andthere was an incident of shutting down. Also, dashboardlights flashed on and off. Dealer could not duplicate the problem.

Transmissionwent of gear whenever the key is in the accessory position. Thiscaused a collision.

Dt*: the contact stated while in motion the transmission slipped and jerked intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the local dealership for inspection. The dealer greased the driveshaft with hi-temperature grease on the spleen. At 2000 miles later, while driving at 70mph, the driveshaft sheared, broke away from the transmission and rear end. The contact lost control of the vehicle.however the vehicle was able to be pulled onto the emergency lane. The vehicle was towed to the local dealership where the dealer replaced the driveshaft and transmission.

Purchased a new 2004 chevrolet silverado z71. The four wheel drive select panel failed. Returned the vehicle to sandy sansing chevrolet pensacola, florida dealer for repair. The service manager stated chevrolet could not fix the problem for two to five months because the problem is a computer software defect. Upon further research the 2000 chevrolet silverado has the same problem. The research and development at chevrolet knew there computer software had a defect when making this vehicle was made available for the consumer. Chevrolet should replace these defective vehicles.

Dt:the contact stated vehicle would not go into park. He thought he had put the car into park but when he began to exit the vehicle it started moving.when he looked at the shift indicator it was in reverse.he checked to see if there was something lodged in the column shift.the contactsaid he did not find anything lodged in the column shift.at this point the vehicle would only go into reverse. But, yesterday when he was inspecting the vehicle noticed it would only go into first and second gears.the vehicle has not been inspected by a dealer to determine the cause of the problem.

2004 chevy silverado 2500 diesel, four months old(4000miles) rear axile went out. Said default from the manufactor. Took fourteen days to get new one.chevrolet built new from st.louis and shipped it to be put on. They gave me a little car to drive. 27000 miles and nowrear axile leaking. Took to dealer. They said nothing but normal leakage coming out. ( whats normal leakage on a axile? they are not suposed to leak on the brakes.) looked like it was on fire smoking so bad and could smell axile grease. Seen some on tires. But this is normal leakage.was told to drive it till it brakes down.also everthing in the dash stops working then it will just come back on.

Accelerating after start up the front axle locked up in 4 wheel drive.the front axle was repaired.vehicle operated in 2 wheel drive.

Front axle assembly failed causing the vehicle to vere left into a telephone pole in my driveway. I was traveling according to the computer 20 mph.

Dt: the contact's husbandheard a noise in the vehicle. She thought it was the brakes because it sounded like metal to metal. When the vehicle was checked at the dealership one could pull the tire out because the pin that heldthe axle had dropped down into the differential unit. This could have caused a serious accident. The contact purchased an extended warranty. The driver side was replaced under warranty but the extended warranty company would not agree to replace the passenger side even under the warranty.

Left front hub assembly total failure.apparently hub stayed locked in four wheel drive and destroyed hub.the failure was noted when extreme vibration and lack of steering response occurred.failure was at 49,750 miles.hub assemblies should last life of vehicle.repaired at my own cost after chevrolet refused to repair.

Dt: clutch failure, vehicle has been to the dealer three times for the same problem. They have temporarily fixed it. They replaced bearing, flywheel, pressure plate, and the slave cylinder. This was the first time. The second time they replacedthe master cylinder. The third time they replaced the hydraulic fluid. This started on january 12, 2005. This usually happened when driving straight for four or more hours. The last timedealer took vehicleto dealer for fourth time, took out the frame, andthere was anincrease in clutch pedal travel, andpedal became momentarily spongy.

I have a clunk noise in the transmission. I have taken my vechicle to the dealer many times they said there is no fix for this problem. They handed me a document id# 1430424 and will not fix they truck.

Clunking noise sounding like a u-joint in both reverse and drive from first to second gears. Happens at any speeds. Two repair center/chevrolet dealers stated this is a common noise and feeling. There was a bulletin from chevrolet about it and there is not repair. Told that you have to live with the noise.

Early 2004 silverado 3500 diesel. The extension housing between the transmission and the transfer case cracked due to vibration from the drive shaft u-joint failure. Technical bulletins from chev address this as a common problem. They have redesigned the parts but will not stand behind their product to repair any existing problems.

While driving the vehicle on an icy road the 4 wheel drive system malfunctioned which caused the 4 wheel drive to engage automatically in 2 wheel drive.

I have a 2004 chevrolet silverado. I have had it to the dealer's service department (so far) twice and the first time they did not drive the vehicle so they stated they could not duplicate the problem. The second time the service tech rode with me and could hear the problem.they took the vehicle in and diagnosed it as "transfer case driveline growl".the dealer called chevrolet/gm in detoit and was told that "there is not a correction@this time-no repair should be attempted".

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for regular maintenance. The technician notified the contact that there was a hole within the transfer case and it needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 118,000.

After an average cold night about 0*to - 7* f, snow and ice were on the roads so the vehicle was parked in 4wd and left for the night, when i went to work the next day, the truck made a very loud growling noise from the front differential and trive train for about 20 - 30 miles.turns out the front diif fluid is a standard 90w gear oil. The fluid froze causing damage to the transfer gears and locking up the right front axle cuasing the 4wd to not engage properly.took to local dealer in kearney, mo and verified damage to gears and axle.gm was contacted, and initially advised of no proplem repair.dealer removed cover plate and found signifigant gear and axle damage, gm then replaced the whole front drivetrain assembly as it was under warranty.

There are 3 recalls on my vehical why have i not been notified

Rear seat seat belts have released by themselves twice.

2004 chevrolet silverado seat caught fire due to the seat heat switch malfunctioning.the consumer stated the seat heat switch was sticking, which caused a short.

I just found this web site and saw that a lot of people were having the same issue with their brake lines popping. In my case i was backing up to hook up my 24ft boat and trailer. While i was getting my truck in position to hook up the trailer i noticed that my brakes were getting softer and softer very quickly. After pumping the brakes and realizing that i was not stopping i ended up hitting the trailer with the back of my truck. Once i got of my truck i noticed there was brake fluid all over the under carriage of the truck and tire. I was very very lucky that this happened in my driveway. I was about to go on a 300 mile trip towing a boat on the highway. With this happening it pretty much ruined a family vacation that we had planned for some time to take the boat. With the brake lines breaking i was unable to use my truck to pull my boat. This was a very costly fix and let's not forget to mention the tow truck fees. I hope there will be a recall on this so i can somehow get remembered for this issue. I would not have expected this from a 9yr truck as well as a product from chevrolet.

Brakes had been a little mushy, then as the driver was coming to a stop, he noticed that he lost all hydraulic pressure.he used the parking brake in order to drive it to a safe place.looking under the vehicle the next day, the brake lines are completely rusted out and there was a puddle of brake fluid.

Brake lines rotted out lost brakes.

I was pulling up to a stop sign in my 2004 chevrolet silverado 1500 and easing on the brakes when i noticed they were soft, so i pushed on them harder and still nothing. The brake pedal was all the way to the floor with barely any stopping power. Luckily there was no one at the stop sign and i was able to push the emergency break to get enough stopping power to come to a halt shortly into the intersection. The "service brakes" light came on once the computer noticed that the brake pedal was against the carpet and the truck wasn't slowing down, which is obviously too late.upon further investigation, the failure seems to be in the brake lines just behind the driver side door. The plastic support bracket that supports the brake lines as they run along the frame had fluid dripping off it and rusty broken brake lines in it.

Driving a well maintained two wheel drive 2004 chevrolet silverado 2500 crew cab pickup at 30 mph on a suburban roadway. I applied hard braking and pedal went to floor. I was able to shift automatic transmission to low 1 and apply e-brake to stop before crash.examination of steel brake lines from master cylinder to the abs module under the drivers floor showed excessive corrosion as reason for failure. The lines that were specifically affected travel over driver side frame rail and are out of sight for routine visual inspection. This vehicle operated in the "salt belt" (new england) and road spray from the left front tire directly impacts this area. After replacing all steel lines with stainless lines (over $500.00 in parts & labor) the brake system worked as designed.

My wife was transporting me to my first check up after major shoulder surgery, when the brakes failed. Upon a mechanical inspection, it has been determined that the brake line rusted totally through. We were very lucky she was able to get truck stopped with no injury to us or anyone else. Not a good situation with my shoulder totally immobilized.

Was coming up to a red light and when i push on the brake pedal , it failed. Lost of brake pedal pressure. Got out andlooked and there was a huge puddle of brake fluid on the road below the drivers side door.

Wife was driving her niece and nephew and coming up on a stop sign to cross a busy highway. The pedal went to the floor. I checked the brake lines and they are extremely corroded/rusted and have a failure in at least one location. This did not result in a crash or injury but could have easily been fatal. There is no way that a truck only 11 years old should have brake lines rusting like this and having complete failure.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado. While driving at an unknown speed, the brake pedal was depressed and extended to the floorboard. The contact placed the vehicle in neutral and was able to stop the vehicle. The contact then placed the vehicle in park, depressed the brake pedal once more and the brake pedal went to the floorboard and the brake warning light illuminated. The contact stated that upon inspection, the brake lines underneath of the vehicle were corroded. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 54,527.

Brake lines rusted out needing replacement. Chevrolet dealership charged $772.70. Service manager says many problems. Gm offers kit to replace lines. Should be recalled. Never had a brake line problem in 50 years as i maintain my vehicles. I could no long wait for a recall. The brake lines were terrible. My 2004 subaru outback has twice the mileage and lines look like new. Brake lines should last life of the vehicle. Please do something. How can you investigate for 4 years and do nothing?

While exiting i95 and trying to come to a stop, my brake pedal went to the floor and i almost hit the car in front of me. I had a ruptured brake line under the drivers side door and it cost me 200.00 to get replaced.

The brake lining on my 2004, silverado with 49,000 miles failed due to the lines rusting and causing a massive leak. I had no brake pressure and luckily it happened when i was going from park to reverse.

When coming to a stop brake pedal went to floor.

Steel brake lines failed due to corrosion under the hood in the engine compartment and along the frame behind the driver side door.lost the ability to stop the truck. Luckily, there was no one else on the road.

Brake line broke due to excessive rusting of line.internet research shows many many owners having same problem.

I noticed a trail of fluid on my driveway as i was moving my truck and trailer around.when i stopped, my brake pedal went all the way to the floor.i put the truck on a set of ramps to find the problem.i noticed fluid dripping from the chassis slightly behind the driver's door.investigation showed that it is brake fluid leaking from a severely rusted brake line.

I believe the original brake lines on the 2004 chevrolet silverado 1500 have inherent design/material flaws and are unsafe to the driving and pedestrian public.i had 2 separate instances of catastrophic loss of all braking effort on the same truck within one year of each other.on 10/6/2013 was driving said vehicle, mileage 80229,on a rural road when approaching a point of interest.depressed brake pedal once to reduce speed to 40mph and then a 2nd time to reduce speed further.however brake pedal lost all resistance and went to the floor.pumped brakes 4 times and no braking effort was available.pulled parking brake which was rusted out and only provided minimal braking effort.was able to downshift and reduce speed to eventually pull off road after approx 1/2 mile.serviced by gm dealer, repair was "replace rusted out rear brake line and bleed" at a cost of $850.tech inspected all other brake lines and tech found no other brake lines that had excessive rust.new brake line is an uncoated metal.on 8/19/2014 driving said vehicle, mileage 86242, about to turn onto expressway entrance ramp when traffic slowed. Depressed brake petal and pedal went to the floor; was traveling approx 15mph when brakes were lost. Fortunately i was able to pilot vehicle away from ramp and onto shoulder.pumped brakes over 10 times; no braking effort was applied to slow the vehicle.parking brake again provided no braking effort.was able to coast slightly uphill on shoulder to bring vehicle to a halt after approx 250 feet.serviced by same gm dealer, repair was "replaced the front brake lines, to both front wheels and the four lines from the master to the bpmv.fill and bleed the hydraulic system.remove rusted brake bleeders and replaced" at cost of $1180.new brake lines installed are coated with a black plastic or fiber.

Since the purchase of the truck new the parking brake has never worked correctly. While the brake is engaged the vehicle will still roll. After noticing gm had issued a recall on this model truck for similar problems i contacted them. General motors has informed me that my truck is not included in the recall. On the above date while launching my boat the truck lunged backward while i was behind (parking brake engaged) as a life long gm owner this will be my last.

Was pulling a trailor with tractor and bushhog on it. 3 cars were stopped in front of me. The first one turning left. I went to stop.brake pedal went to floor. Hitting the vehicle in front me, pushing that one into the one in front of that one. Upon inspection brake line under drivers floor had burst open due to rust. Tractor also came forward even being strapped down breaking the head gate on trailor. Gm needs to step up to the plate and fix this issue with these trucks. Very lucky no one was killed or injured.

I was backing out of my driveway and a brake line blew. Lucky it happened in the driveway and not coming down a hill.i had to have the truck towed to a repair shop and they said all the lines need to be replaced due to rust.the cost to replace the lines isaround $950.

I was in stop and go traffic for about 3mi. When the car in front of me stopped, when i applied the brakes the peddle went to the floor and i hit the car in front of me on the rear bumper. Thank goodness i was moving very slowly when i hit him and there was now damage to either vehicle. I pulled off the road and looked under my truck and noticed a pool of brake fluid on the ground. I had the truck towed to the repair shop and after the mechanic did an inspection he told me he was surprised that i had made it this long.he showed me the lines when he had it on the lift and although the rear brake line ruptured, all the brake lines were rusted to the point of failure and must be replaced. I asked him what could have caused the lines to rust so quickly and he told me that this has been a problem with this model and year of truck . How could chevrolet allow such a safety issue to exist. Must someone die before a recall is issued.

Brake pedal went to the floor with very little stopping ability. Fortunately, there was time to come to a gradual stop because a quick stop was not possible. Had the vehicle towed to a chevrolet dealer. Brake lies were "rusted through." cost to repair was $1199.29.

The contact stated that the brake lines were completly rusted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the technician stated that the brake lines needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired.the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 96,000. The vin was not available.

While exiting a parking lot, i applied the brakes to stop before pulling out into traffic. The brake pedal went to the floor suddenly and with no warning. My truck went out into the road where i quickly turned hard right to avoid crossing the road. I then used the emergency brake to pull over and stop.i am a mechanic by trade, and i knew right away what had happened. My truck is in exceptional condition as i am only the second owner. The first owner had garage kept this vehicle and it has never been wrecked. I do not plow snow or off-road it. I had a gm certified mechanic fix the transfer case issue (gm also knows about this) last summer. He inspected my truck then and found nothing to be alarmed about. I did talk to him about the brake lines, to which he told me that he had to replace his in his 2004 suburban. Two other friends of mine that both have 2004 tahoes, had to replace their brake lines due to the exact issue. My brother-in-law has a 2006 silverado, he replaced his lines last year, again for the same problem! this is a major safety issue and gm won't stand behind their own product? i have been a gm owner since i could drive. I won't be anymore! i am very disappointed that a recall or some type of action is not being done.

While driving vehicle front left steel brake line burst due to excessive rust. After inspecting the remaining lines under the vehicle all of the metal lines , including the fuel and power steering lines are excessively rusted to the point they needed to be replaced.the repair cost 1200 dollars.

Brake lines under forward side of drivers door totally rusted through.total loss of brakes while towing a trailer.brakes felt soft prior to complete failure but no warning indication in instrument cluster until total failure.brake fluid gushing onto the ground.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that while reversing, the brake pedal was depressed but the brakes failed to respond. In addition, the abs warning light illuminated after the failure occurred. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 110,322.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that while attempting to shift gears, the brakes and emergency brakes failed to function with the illumination of the brake light. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis where it was stated that the brakes lines were disintegrated. The vehicle was repaired and the manufacturer was not notified. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph, the brake pedal abnormally traveled to the floor board as the service brake warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. The technician stated that all of the brake lines were rusted and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 77,296. Gm infomred the consumer, they no longer made brake lines for his vehicle. Updated 10/23/13

My brother inlaw owns a 2003 gmc sierra and experienced total brake failure due to corroded brake lines in 2009. Upon inspecting my brake lines on my 2004 silverado i observed the the brake lines were corroded and would have to be replaced before they failed as well. My truck was only 5 years old at the time! after much discussion with the dealership where i purchased this vehicle i determined that they would not stand behind their product and had to pay out of pocket for the repairs. I still have the corroded brake lines, receipt and pictures of lines on truck before replacement. Keeping all evidence in case of recall. By the way, my exhaust system looks like brand new. Why didn't they use the same material for the brake lines? i don't expect anything to be done about this until cnn starts running stories about people getting killed by this problem!

I came to a stop in my drive way when my brake pedal went completely to the floor.i knew right away what had happened.i blew my main brake line that exits the master cylinder.i inspected the brake lines and realized they were all corroded very badly.i have never had brake lines corrode on me so badly in such a short period of time.the vehicle is only a 2004 silverado,it is not that old in my opinion.i have had several vehicles, and have never had a brake line rust the way my silverado has.i am very fortunate that the vehicle was not at a high rate of speed when this occurred,i could of seriously hurt myself or someone else on the road,or even killed someone due to this.for what it is worth,it seems that 99-06 chevy silverados have a lot of complaints in regards to rusted through and complete failure of the brake lines.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I was driving the vehicle , , i tried to stop, and the pedal went to floor, i had the vehicle towed to a local shop . All the brake line were rusted out , i find out now gm sells a replacement kit with the line coated in abs plastic. Gm knows there is an issue with this truck.

I drove to dental office, parked my truck, attended appointment. I returned to my truck, drove approx. 1-2 miles before coming to an intersection where my lane was stopped at a red light on this two lane road. 3 vehicles in front of me were stopped at a red light. I attempted to slow down when my brakes failed with no warning. The brake pedal went all the way to the floor and was barely slowing down. I swerved left and had to cross double yellow lines into oncoming traffic to avoid crashing into the car in front of me, which would have collided with thetwo other cars at the light. Once that accident was avoided, someone turned from a side street headed directly at my veh. I managed to slow, cut back into my proper lane and narrowly avoid hitting the stopped cars at the light once again. I regained very little stopping ability.once stopped, my brake light came on. Brake line broke in rear left drivers side. Brake lines need to be replaced.

While backing out at a little league parking lot, the brake pedal went to floor and i had to use the emergency brake to stop.all brake lines were rusted/ruptured. I do not live or drive in the "rust belt".this could have been much worse to include pedestrian or occupant fatalities.

The brake lines on my truck are completely rotted out.when i went to get into my truck and drive away no brake pedal exsisted.yet again another quality gm product made from inferior materials.

Was driving on highway and applied brakes just before exiting on off-ramp and pedal went to the floor. Inspection of brake lines revealed that rf brake line that runs under the radiator ruptured and is severelycorroded. All other brake lines having heavy corrosion as well.

Approaching traffic light, went to apply brakes and pedal went to floor. Pulled off road and saw brake fluid from vehicle leaking . Had vehicle towed to shop, this is second time 1st time front brake line rusted through, this time the rear lines rusted through. Extremely dangerous situation.

I was driving on rt.7 in schenectady ny,speed was around 35mph,traffic signal changed to red, as i was appling the brakes the peddal suddenly went to the floor, lucky for me there were no cars in front of me, or in the intersection.my truck did envetually stop, but it was after passing thru the intersection. The red light on the dash did not come on till the brakes failed.further inspectionrevealed main brake line to the rear wheels blew due to rust.

No brakes, all most went into ohio river. Main brake line rusted out under driver seat. And emergency brake cable rusted out under driver seat. After checking all line and cable needs replaced $ 2000. Dealer said noting they can replace for free. I will never purchase gm products again .

Traveling on interstate 95 nb when slowing down to exit, brake petal went to floor, had to pump several times to get stopped. Inspection under the hood revealed brake hydraulic fluid covering the whole driver side of the engine compartment including the exhaust manifold. Fluid was coming from a rusted metal brakeline. Further inspection of other lines identified similar rusting. Vehicle was unsafe to drive to a repair facility. The emergency brakes on this vehicle are not sufficient to stop in a safe distance at highway speeds. This is a safety defect.

Wife was moving truck to garage when brake pedal went to floor; on further observation brake line had rusted to the point where reservoir was empty of fluid. We had just been hauling trailer loads of hay glad this didn't happen on open road with other vehicles involved. Bought truck new no abuse inits history. Bought 91 chevy pickup truck new and still have that one.we have never had any problems with the brake lines on the older truck.i will definitely think twice before purchasing any more gm vehicles if they are going to put my family in danger with poor parts like this.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 30 mph, the brakes suddenly failed and the driver lost control of the vehicle. As a result, the contact crashed into a ditch. The contact indicated that when depressing the brake pedal, it extended to the floorboard. The independent mechanic examined the vehicle and discovered that brake lines had rusted. The contact also discovered that the frame, the rocker panels and the tailgate hinges had also rusted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 113,000. The vin was not available.

The contact owns a 2010 chrysler 300. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the side of a bridge. The vehicle traveled off the roadway and rolled over three times before landing on all four wheels. The driver and front seat passenger sustained several bruises to the body. A police report was filed. The air bags failed to deploy with the severe impact. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to a salvage facility. The manufacturer was not notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000....updated 10-24-13 the consumer stated while driving and attempting to stop the brakes failed to operate. The consumer applied the emergency brake the vehicle swerved into the grass where it stopped. The consumer owns another buick gmc with the same issue. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 29,000. Updated 11/12/2013

Steel brake, fuel and transmission lines are extremely rusty and failure appears to be imminent, especially on brake lines. This should be a safety recall.

I was driving down rte 3 near my house going approximately 35 miles per hour in mid afternoon.when i tried to apply my brakes the peddle went all the way to the floor and i was unable to stop.i immediately depressed my emergency brake and was able to coast to a safe stop on the side of the road.i had the vehicle towed to a local midas shop and was informed that my brake lines had rusted through and had to be replaced at a cost of nearly $1,400.i feel extremely lucky that i was not at excessive speed or that anybody was in front of me as this situation could have resulted in serious injury or a fatality.

I was launching my boat this morning and nearly launched my truck with it. Putting the boat in the water my brakes all of a sudden stopped working. Luckily i thought to put it in drive especially since i can't swim. After driving to the top of the hill i had to crash in to a bank to stop! then i noticed something leaking above the left rear tire. It appeared to be a brake line that had rusted through.?.?.i had my wife press the brake pedal to find where it was leaking and it was exactly what i thought. Rusted brake line! of all things designed to survive rust, the brake lines were obviously left out. This is the first time in a long time that i felt my life was in danger. After some research i learned this is very common. I just can't believe nothing is being done about it. Doesn't seem like the gm i know to put lives in danger.

Brake failure today on chevy siverado. Driving 55 mph on highway. The car ahead of me slowed and i braked. Peddle went to the floor without stopping vehical. Was able to come to stop and could see rusted brake lines by driver door. Had wife press brake peddle to see fluid sraying from rusted area. Had zero braking power when first went out

Driving down a busy 4 lane road.approached a red light and attempted to stop, when pushing the pedal it gave free and depressed all the way to the floor.i had to switch lanes quickly to avoid a car and blew through the red light.while i was able to avoid the accident it was very scary.upon inspection of my brake lines 1 had burst and the rest were so rusted it was only a matter of time till the rest blew. ## vin failed ##

The brake lines collapsed leaving my truck with minimal stopping power . This has now happened two times in one month. My mechanic said there was an unexpected amount of corrosion on the lines.

When i left our garage i noticed that the red brake system light was on.usually my husband drives this to work but we switched vehicles because i needed to haul a trailer to help move my daughter.i have only drive this vehicle one other time so i was unfamiliar with how it handled.i noticed that i had to press hard to stop but thought that was how it handled.i drove over 120 miles with it this way, i didn't know what was wrong with it, by the time i pulled into our drive, i could barely stop the vehicle.my husband came out to release the trailer out back.he got in and said, "what's wrong with the brakes?"i said, "what do you mean?"he told me i had no brakes and i could have been killed.it was a near miss incident but i have found (as a former safety manager) that those near miss incidents often show a root cause) that in the future means something.please let me know if there ever is a class action suit to recoup the money we will have to pay to have this repaired.

Approaching an intersection, i applied the brakes and the brake pedal went to the floor.i was able to stop as there was some brake pressure left once i got the pedal all the way to the floor.i carefully drove the truck home and notice a large puddle under the driver side door.i checked underneath and noticed that one of the brake lines had ruptured due to excessive rust.in fact, all of the brakes in that area were severely rusted.i replaced all brakes on the truck with stainless steel lines to insure this problem did not happen again.i tow a large fifth wheel camper with this truck.luckily this did not occur while i was towing it.

All brake lines are completely corroded.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado z71. While driving approximately 5 mph in reverse, the brake pedal traveled to the floor upon engaging. The vehicle continued to accelerate. The gear was immediately shifted into drive and the emergency brake was engaged in order to stop. The contact was able to drive with the use of the emergency brake for stopping. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated the brake lines were completely rusted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 66,800. The vin was unavailable.

Wife was driving on 301 south in maryland on 10\27\2012 when she applied the brakes when pulling over to get gas. Pedal went to the floor and brake fluid was visible on ground by the drivers side door. She had to leave it at the gas station until i was able to repair. Brake line was rusted through i replaced it and got truck home. Replaced 2nd brake line on 11/08/15. Now 07/10/2015 another line has rusted through in the process of replacing the remaining lines.

Abs light onande b c m. Pump won't stop runningunless remove fuse i am original owner

I was traveling down the expressway about 70 mph and needed to brake quickly for road construction. When i stepped on the brake pedal, it went to the floor board and there was no pressure. The red brake light came on immediately, but there was no warning before applying the brakes. With difficulty, i was able to get the vehicle to stop and barely missed the vehicle way out in front and the road construction equipment and crew. I was scared to death.

Hi, not sure if you are aware, but there is a serious issue with 2004 chevrolet silverado brake lines.on 2/21/15, my son was driving my truck (vin# [xxx]).he was about 3 miles from home when the brake pedal went all the way to the floor.i had to take the truck to an auto mechanic and he said all the lines were rusted out.one line burst, but all needed replacing.the truck only has 36,000 original miles on it.i am glad that no one was killed or injured.i am sure you are aware that this needs to be recalled by gm/chevrolet.i did some research through the ntsb, aaa, edmunds, and motor trend and they all seem to think there is a major problem with certain years.thank you for listening to me and thankfully, my 17 year old son knew enough to use the emergency brake to stop the vehicle.respectfully submitted,[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Driving 35 mph when i came to next red light and brake pedal hit the floor. Took very long to come to a complete stop. Noticed later brake lines are corroded and leaking directly underneath passenger side door. Appear to be rusting all along the length of the tube. Luckily no vehicles were in front of me and was not traveling any faster.

Backing out my driveway i applied brakes and pedal went to the floor and saw brake fluid leaking to ground below driver side front wheel and door.

Truck was in don mealey chevrolet clemont fl. 34711 for a fuel leak. Upon completion of work technician took truck out for test drive. During the ride he experienced brake failure and almost struck another vehicle. This was reported to me by the service writer [xxx] . The results were rebuild brake lines. 4000 found rear brake line from abs unit to rear wheels leaking replace brake line and bleed brakesparts $89.71labor $698.21 total $787.92 plus $75.00 haz. Fluid disposal.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Brake line rusted out caused loss of all brake fluid on interstate 95. Pedal when to floor resulting in total loss of braking.emergency brake was used to stop but hard to control vehicle.

Brakes failed - lines rusted - mechanic tells me that they are getting several similar situations a week on this model of chev.his is a small ;shop. While the truck did stop, the pedal went to the floor and the truck took a long time to stop.luckily i was not in traffic.i would have never stopped in traffic. I am 70 and have owned lots of cars and trucks over the years in maine, and i can tell you i have never had a brake line rust through like this. The company is using a material in brake lines that are unusually susceptible to rust.

On june 27,2014 approx. 6:30pm my brake pedalwent all the way to the floor as i was backing up to turn my truck around in the driveway.i proceeded toput the truck in drive and pushed the brake again and the pedal went to the floor. I put the truck in park and got out and looked under the truck and noticed that brake fluid was pouring out from under the driver side cab. I got a closer look at what was going on and that is wheni noticed that the brake line had burst. I also noticed how extremely rusty the brake lines were. The brake lines were in such bad shape from rust that repairing it was not an option. The lines needed to be completely replaced. I had the truck towed to shelor motor milein christiansburg, va on 7/3/14.i toldthem to replace the brake lines because they were too rusted to repair and i did not feel safe driving it with the brake lines in such bad shape. I picked up my truckon 7/10/14and i also got my old brake lines that was removed from the truck. After i got home i got under the truck and looked at the new brake lines and noticed they had a black coating on them.i was told that the coating was to rust proof the brake lines which the old lines did not have. I feltvery fortunate that this happened while i was in my driveway and not on the highwaybecause it could have been real bad accident.

While exiting of a highway and traveling 25 mph my brakes completely failed. I pushed the pedal to the floor several times but it did not slow the truck. As a result i rear ended a vehicle in front of me. I had now warning or check light for the brakes previous or since. Upon inspection i discovered corroded and leaking brake lines in the middle section of my truck.

My brake pedal went to the floor due to a rusted brake line. I was able to stop but very scary. Upon inspection i realized every metal line in the truck is rusted and either already leaking or will be soon. I've had 5 chevy trucks and never encountered anything like this with any of them. If i want to keep my truck safely on the road that i still owe $10,000 on, i am now faced with the expense of replacing every brake line, the transmission cooler lines, the engine oil cooler lines, the power steering lines, pump and cooler, and the fuel lines. This is ridiculous! chevrolet gets good money for these trucks and they obviously messed up on this design. The rust problem with the working parts under the truck is unbelievable. I should be able to get more than 100,000 miles out of a truck that cost $40,000! i am shocked that chevrolet put a stainless steel exhaust on this truck that will last the life of the vehicle, but the high pressure fuel lines that can cause a fire or the brake lines that could kill my family are made of inferior rust prone materials! general motors should be ashamed and tuck their heads between their legs as they watch their loyal customers become loyal to another automaker that might have more reliable vehicles or at least stand behind their products and designs. Shame on them!

Rear brake line blew when trying to apply brakes. No indicator lights or anything pedal just went straight to the floor. Had to swerve off the road into an embankment to avoid a collision at a red light! mechanic said that all my brake lines were rusted and it was just a matter of time before another one was to fail.

Approaching a red light.brake pedal went to floor, vehicle didn't stop.due to my driving experience, i downshifted and applied the emergency brake to stop vehicle.expensive repair of $3,500 due to extensive rust corrosion, all brake lines front to rear, rotors with calipers and backing plates & pads.vehicle only has 64,671 at time of finished repair.truck always serviced and taken car of with new tires, and brakes in past, this is a major problem if manufacturer has trucks out on the road losing brakes at low mileages.this should be a recall.owed toyota truck for 13 years and use to have it in water all the time with no major corrosion / rust problems.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that while driving 10 mph and applying the brakes, the brakes failedand the contact traveled through a stop sign.the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence where the contact inspected the vehicle and determined that brake fluid leaked due to defective brake lines. The failure mileage was 93,000.

I was driving down my hill when my brake pedal unexpectedly went to the floor.i coasted the rest of the way down the hill in low (automatic trans) and turned around and coasted back into my driveway where i could check it out.my rear main brake line was rusted in two and the others were completely corroded.the metal on my exhaust has no rust after all of these miles but the brake lines are obviously made of a far cheaper metal.i read a lot of articles where this is a huge problem with these trucks from 1999 to 2003.gm, old or new needs to accept responsibility and recall these cheap brakes.

Brake line rusted through and lost brake fluid and all brakes.

Approaching stop sign, brake pedal went to the floor without any braking. Inspection identified corrosion through brake line tubing walls causing loss of pressure and fluid. Massive system failure occured without warning.

This is the (2) times losing my brakes due to rusted brake lines. Today 7-11-2015 i lost them again and once again due to rusted brake lines. I ended up driving into some bushes to stop and just missing (2) trees.im not the only one in the us that is having this dangerous problem with rusted brake lines on this type of make. I ask that you recall this make a.s.a.p. Before any lives are lost. Once again i repeat recall this make a.s.a.p. If i hit those trees i'd be dead!!p.s. Help help!!!!!!

Unable to stop. Avoided vehicle in front of me, went off road no damage to vehicle but loss of braking. Upon inspection found brake lines severely corroded and seeping brake fluid.

I was going up a hill in vermont and the brakes let go, pedal to the floor.my truck slid backwards, jack knifed my trailer which swung around and smashed into the side of my truck.took my truck to have the brake lines replaced because they were totally rusted which caused them to break.my gas line is in the same condition now.it is so rusted my mechanic was afraid to touch it for it would break.

Went to shop for sched. Service and it was discovered that the brake lines were rusted and should be replaced. Scheduled for replacement on 5/14/13 at considerable cost.

Noticed that all the front brake pads have very little wear and even the rotors are not being worn (either the entire surface (lf inner rotor) or just on part of the rotor surfaces).the back brake pads were worn down and had to be replaced and seem to be wearing fine.is there a problem with the front brakes not functioning on these chevy trucks?the front brakes are definitely not functioning properly.

Brakes failed suddenly due to severely corroded brake lines.brake pedal was slightly mushy at stop sign coming off of freeway.at the next stop sign (3-way intersection on 55-mph county highway) the pedal went right to the floor.fortunately there was nobody in the intersection or a serious accident may have occurred.apparently gm's position is that brake lines are maintenance item, and this is normal wear and tear, which is ridiculous.i've owned older vehicles (including a nearly 50-year old chevrolet truck) in snow country and have never seen brake lines this rusty.i am very fortunate the rupture did not occur in an emergency braking situation.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado. While driving approximately 55 mph, the brake pedal was depressed but failed to respond. The brake fluid warning indicator illuminated. The failure recurred on two other occasions. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the brake line was rusted and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 54,000.

Today on my way home from a doctors visit i was leaving route 509 off ramp from heading north bound in seattle washington. I applied the brakes to slow down and as i approached the stop light suddenly the brake pedal collapsed to the floor corresponding with the service brake light turning on. Luckily the light changed to green so i was able to avoid an accident. After making the turn i drove slowly until it was safe to stop as this is a very industrial area with no place to stop. I had to use the emergency brake to stop the vehicle, once i was safe i examined the brake system and saw fluid dropping below the master cylinder onto the ground. When i looked closer i found a rusted brake line rupture on the front passenger brake line depressurizing the system. I looked online to see if there were any additional complaints and have found a very common issue here and realized i should share my story. The truck is not that old and having been an automotive technician there is no excuse for brake lines to fail like this regardless of the regional climates. This truck resided prominently in florida and texas and only recently has arrived in washington. I hope this helps and chevy really does need to take responsibility for a major safety problem like this. I cant trust any of the lines in the truck after this and intend to replace all of them.here is a blog from edmonds.com with a large complaint history i found online that raised my concerns:http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f0d4fe5/281.

Stepped on brake and peddle went to the floor. Warning chime and brake light came on simultaneously. Pulled into convenience store and discovered brake fluid dripping out of brake line adjacent to drivers side frame rail. Location was aft of bend radius where the brake lines turns to go up to the master cylinder. Drove vehicle at very low speed one mile to home, pumping the brakes to get some peddle pressure. Inspected brake line and found it to be very rusted. Vehicle is in otherwise excellent condition for its age.

While driving, i went to apply brakes at stop light when brake pedal went to floor and "service brake system" warning light came on. Was able to stop by using emergency brake. Aaa towed to local gas station and discovered that brake lines were badly rusted and had ruptured at one point. Technician ordered a brake line "kit" from gm and installed it for total cost of about $1000.00. After 3 months, i noticed that the brakes felt soft, and discovered it needed 3/4 can of brake fluid. Closer inspection under vehicle disclosed another badly rusted brake line located on the rear drivers side between the top of the frame & the truck bed. (it appears the bed will have to be lifted to replace this line. It either wasn't part of the kit, or the repair station skipped replacing it because it was too hard to get to.) my complaint would be that non-stainless steel brake lines were used originally, and that the lines that were installed are of inferior quality that will rust out and fail.i was able to stop the truck when mine failed because i wasn't going that fast, there were no vehicles in front of me, and it was experienced enough to apply the emergency brake.i'm not sure a younger driver going faster in traffic could stop before a collision.

I was driving along and had to hit the brakes immediately. I almost hit the car in front of me. I noticed i had to start putting the brakes all the way to the floor in order to stop, especially on an incline. The brake light went on and off a few times so i took it to a shop to have it looked at. They told me that my brake line blew and all the other brake lines are rusted and the truck is not safe to drive. This truck is only 11 years old, that is absolutely unacceptable that all the brake lines are rusted. The truck only has 108k miles. I called a local chevy dealership and they quoted me 3k+ to fix it. It involved at least 20 hours of labor and they needed to lift the frame off to fix.i can not believe their are no recalls from gm or atleast them offering any help to pay for this. The dealer did not offer me any help or remedy to the situation, just wanted me to fork up 3k.

Rusted brake line ruptured causing loss of fluid resulting in braking failure.

I was traveling at slightly less than the posted speed limit when i noticed that cars ahead of me had stopped.i applied my brakes and the pedal immediately went to the floor, the brake warning light on the dash came on as did a "service brakes" where my odometer is.the bell inside the cab started to ding.i had to swerve into the middle of the street toward the centerline to avoid hitting the car in front of me. I pushed the pedal to the floor hard and eventually rolled to a stop.i pulled to the side of the road and my husband (who was in the truck with me) had me pump the brakes and brake fluid poured down from under the front driver side of the truck.i called a tow company and they took the truck to the nearest chevy dealer.the dealer diagnosed that all of the brake lines where rusted and some were leaking and others would soon be.they said all the brakes lines from front to rear needed to be replaced.this is a very well cared for truck.i have never owned a vehicle that had brake lines corrode and i have always lived in new england.

While driving down the street went to hit my brakes and they went to the floor with no warning no lights on the dash at all took me a city block to stop my emergency brake barely work i'm glad i was not in dc like i was an hour before it would have been a very bad accident

While driving my 2004 chevrolet z71 crewcab silverado the brake pedal went all the way to the floor with no warning sign such as soft pedal or warning light. I avoided rear ending the car in front of me because i was going slow enough in traffic to use my emergency brake. Upon inspection if found the brake reservoir below minimum and no visible leaks in my garage so i filled with dot3 fluid per owners manual. Upon depressing the brake pedal seeking a firm pedal the rear hard brake line burst. Further examination revealed all brake lines were rusted and in need of replacement, not just the burst line. My truck is not a daily driver and seldom driven on salted or chemical treated roads.when it is i always take is to my local car wash that has an undercarriage wash. I have noticed multiple complaints on brake lines for this vehicle with no recall. This is the first time i have ever heard of brake lines rusting to failure on a vehicle that is under 20 years old. Please insist chevrolet do a recall before someone gets hurt and those of us that own this vehicle can be reimbursed, retroactively if necessary. Thank you.

I was driving along the interstate and traffic abruptly stopped in front of me. When pressed on the brake pedal, i slowed down a little, but then the pedal went to the floor, and i rear-ended the car in front of me. After the police report was filed, i got it to a chevy dealer and they said that one of the steel brake lines from the master cylinder to the front passenger side was rusted and had burst, spilling all of the brake fluid. The wreck damaged the front passenger side bumper, and broke the grille and the headlight support bracket.

I was getting ready to brake my vehicle at a stop sign, as i applied the brake pedal it went straight to the floor. Luckily i was able to apply the emergency brake to stop the truck. I only lived close by so i was able to get home without further incident.when i inspected the truck , brake fluid was all over my engine compartment and upon further inspection i could seemy front driver's side steel brake line was rotted out.

I was driving down the road and stepped on my brake pedal and it went to the floor i was told the brake lines rusted out. I had it repaired and then happened twice more. Know i had to order ss. Brake lines before my wife or someone else got killed!!!!!!!!!!!!! something needs to be done about this before someone dies.

Driving 04 silverado noticed brakes feeling funny.......driving to work pedal went to the floor, made it to work and seen brake fluid pouring out of the line, after closer look realized all the libes are completly corroded......unacceptable for 8 year old vehical......sumthing should b done.

I attempted to stop in my driveway and the brake pedal went to the floor.fortunately i was only going 5 mph because i had almost no brakes. I stopped and looked under the vehicle.a brake line was gushing out brake fluid.i had it towed to the dealer.the brake line rusted and developed a leak without warning.what ever happened to dual brake systems - i lost almost all braking without any warning.had i been going down a steep hill, i would have been killed.

Brake line burst, very little stopping power, had to make crash avoidance maneuver, swerving off road. Upon inspection noticed all brake lines rusted badly. Will require replacement off all lines.

Driving into work this morning i tried to stop to and the brakes when to the floor. I looked underneath and there was brake fluid leaking from my brake lines near the drivers door on top of the frame rail.

Out for a drive in the pennsylvania mountains when experienced difficulty stopping. Checked brake fluid. It was 3/4 empty due to leakage in lines. Took truck to the repair shop. Brake lines need to be replaced due to rusting out. The cost will be approximately $1,000.00. I regularly maintain my truck.

Pulled off interstate 95 to switch drivers. When the vehicle stopped and was put into park the brake lines ruptured. On inspection lines were completely rusted (all 3). Chevrolet corporate refuses any responsibility for inferior material, dealer is charging $3400 to replace lines. Exactly 2 minutes earlier and the truck would have been on 95 and this would have been disastrous and perhaps fatal.

I was traveling west bound on interstate 88 tollroad near aurora, illinois.i had my 3 horse trailer, loaded with one horse, in tow.as i approached a toll plaza, i slowed my speed from 65 down to 35-40 as i was nearing the toll booth.when i went to apply the brake pedal, it went completely to the floor.i was only able to stop my truck by pumping the brakes, and using the trailer brakes to stop the vehicle.i paid my toll, then slowly pulled over to the side of the road.there was a steady leak of brake fluid from the undercarriage of the truck.i needed two separate tows, one for my truck, and another for the horse trailer.

The vechicle's anti-lock brakes failed!

On 7/7/09, driving slowly down driveway, brake pedal went all the way to the floor and had to use emergency brake to stop vehicle after bouncing over curb.took the car to jeff barnes chevrolet and they replaced brake line that was completely rusted through.on 6/26/12, driving on a rural road, brakes went out unexpectedly.again, used the emergency brake to stop vehicle.drove to nearby merchants tire and they replaced 20 foot of brake line and couplings that had rusted through leaking all brake fluid.

Wife was driving my 2004 chevy silverado with 89764 miles when she was coming to a stop the brake pedal went right to the floor she went into other lane to avoid hitting the car in front of her. The steel brake line by the gas tank had ruptured. Seems like this is a common thing on these trucks however chevrolet won't even acknowledge that there is an issue until someone dies.i have been a loyal gm guy for 32 years unless they acknowledge this problem and offer some kind of repair "i will never buy from gm again" and i will advise everyone i knowto do the same. However i don't think they really care they will just get more money from the government when they can't sell cars.

When coming to a stop the brakes operate properly until just under 10mph.around 10mph it felt like the brakes faded away causing the truck to lurch forward.i replaced pads and rotors on the front and back thinking this was the issue.the problem persisted after installation of new brake components.i later learned this was an issue of the abs kicking and was informed the entire wheel hub assembly had to be replaced to correct the problem.there were no issues with the bearings in the hubs and could not afford the cost of $280 each.since this vehicle is not driven daily i assumed i could just be cautious and allow extra braking distance to compensate for the problem.in may of 2012 i encountered a situation where i had to make an abrupt stop from a speed of 45mph.as my speed decreased the abs engaged causing me to lurch forward and i came within inches of crashing into the vehicle in front of me.while researching this problem i found gm recall #05068c front wheel speed sensor corrosion.the symptoms in this document are identical to the issue i have experienced.i have performed the repair procedure outlined in the document and can report this issue has been resolved.however, it took a significant amount of time and one wheel speed sensor had to be replaced.gm should be required to extend this recall beyond the 2002 model year.i aware of at least 2 other gm truck owners (2005 model year) that have replaced their wheel hubs due to this issue.

After checking the underside of my 04 silverado 1500 4x4 for a fuel filter( which it doesn't have) i noticed the brake lines to be severely corroded.most of the worst areas were in the bends around the frame from the master cylinder and along the frame.

In preparation to leave on a camping trip the next morning i attached a tag along trailer to the truck. When i pulled forward a little to test the brake and running lights on the trailer and to achieve a more level ground, so as to turn on the refrigerator, my brake pedal went to the floor and i could hear liquid leaking from under the driver's side of the truck. Upon further investigation, my mechanic replaced all the brake lines as he deemed them all unsafe due to exterior rusting. We are so glad that the brake line failure happened in the drive way and not on the interstate highway.

Going to work, backed up and started down driveway.as i applied brakes at bottom of hill, brake peddle went to the floor, used emergency brake to stop.took truck to repair shop and he found the breaks lines rusted and leaking with one already split.with the condition of all the lines, knowing that if he only repaired the one broken, there was still a safety issue because the any of the other lines could go at anytime.i had him replace all 33 feet of brake line at a cost of $395.46.

The brake lines have rusted through and brake fluid leaked out into my driveway.this is the second incident i have had with a brake line leak within the past year.very poor design on the brake line system in this vehicle..

A brake line ruptured.

Rusted brake linebroke , causing loss of brakes.

I was moving my truck from one location to another at my house to move around some other vehicles.when i pressed the brake pedal the second time to stop the truck, the pedal went all the way to the floor.i turned the vehicle off, and moved the other vehicles i need to and went to move my truck back to the original location.when moving my truck i had hardly any stopping power, and there was a trail of fluid running from where my truck had been parked to where i moved it to.my truck is not used off road, and had been maintained.i have another vehicle with 245k miles on it and never had to replace the brake lines.i love my truck and now it has to sit, cause i cannot afford to fix it, and cannot drive it with no brakes.very disappointed!

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that the brake lines were excessively corroded. The dealer stated that the brake lines needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 186,000.

I was backing out of driveway hit brake pedal and it went to the floor. Looked under truck and back left brake line had blown out upon looking at rest of brake lines they to where rusted and bulging needed to be replaced luckily happened in driveway and not in the morning when i would have been traveling down a very hilly road gm should not have used inferior brake lines.

While driving in my chevy silverado truck with my two young daughters, we approached a red light at an intersection. I depressed the brake and i felt pressure but then the brake peddle went to the floor. I pumped and depressed the brake peddle several times and always completely to the floor until i was able to make a controlled, though dangerous stop. I pulled over and tested the brakes and i could hear a sound of air escaping below the vehicle. I looked under and depressed the brake with my hand and notice completely corroded break lines and dot 3 brake fluid leaking from a line below the drivers door. On further inspection i noticed all the break lines and fuel line were grossly corroded.this seems to be a safety concern to others i've just now realized and i would like to add my name to the complaint list. I'm disappointed and relieved that my camper was not on my vehicle at the time as my children and i were preparing for a camping trip that labor day weekend. Completely happy nobody was hurt...but it's just a matter of time with this particular situation. Please refer to file ea11001 which i recently reviewed concerning this same issue. Thank you.

Upon leaving a parking area with a full load of woodchips on my truck my brake pedal suddenly and without any dashboard warning, went right to the floor.coasting to a stop and applying the parking brake i stopped the truck without hitting anything.looking under the truck i found the rear brake line had burst.i had the truck taken to my mechanic who stated the entire brake line system had corroded and was falling apart.i was advised to take it to the local chevy dealer to repair due to the extensive length of time to needed to make the repair.the entire brakeline system, abs pump motor and valve was excessively rusted, corroded through and non repairable and had to be replaced. Repair cost $2,026.47.i am appalled that gm is aware of this problem with the brake line system and i was never notified nor was a recall issued to have this trucks brake lines replaced before they burst and caused the brakes to fail completely, without warning.

All my lines under truck rusted out brake lines shift linkage transmission lines. Brakes were the worst lines popped from rust.i keep this truck in a garage not used commercially. I'm a hospice nurse and need to get where i'm going. I keep this truck mint detailed twice a year professionally maintained every 3000 miles.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

1st incident nov. 2013 my wife was driving with the kids and was coming to a stop at a light and her brakes went all the way to the floor and had to swerve into shopping plaza entrance to avoid a accident. Took it to the shop to have brake line fixed. 2nd incident was nov. 2013 while bleeding brakes at the shop another break line broke in the rear so i had to have the shop fix that also. Dec. 2013 while my wife was driving to supermarket, while driving in traffic someone cut in front of her and which caused her to hit the brakes & another brake line blewwhich was accident involved.

I have been dealing with rusting brake components since the calipers rusted and fell off at 36,000 miles. Now my garage kept silverado has brake lines falling off that nearly cause an accident.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado 1500. The contact stated that while braking for a traffic stop, the brakes abnormally traveled to the floorboard and the vehicle did not respond. As a result, the contact crashed into a pedestrian. The pedestrian was injured and transported to the hospital. A police report was filed of the incident. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic, where it was discovered that the entire brake line was completely rusted. The vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 115,000.

The forward brakes lines which were showing signs of light surface rust three years ago are now heavily corroded and pitted and are showing signs of fluid leakage.i discovered the condition just in time while walking past the truck in bright sunlight.the light happen to be hitting the lines just right and i noticed the condition of the run of four brake lines which are mounted to the frame of the vehicle behind the left front tire.i am now in the process of replacing the hard brake lines with stainless.this is a babied vehicle which sees about 5000 miles of usage a year and does not see that much snow or road salt.

I own a 2500hd w/duramax diesel.it has frame beaming defects.defect was present from the start but was not identified till about 20,000 mi.truck tearing up tires, vibrating, difficult to steer and getting worse along with developing other problems.gm has lied and tried to hide that there really is a defect.they would not present any tsb's or any other info reguarding when asked.the truck was vibrating so bad the other night i just all of a sudden blew the r&r tire and almost hit a rock embankment.tires had less than 18000 miles on them .i bought 2 more just to try to be safe and get there.please help with any info or advice, anything!

Driving down the road and felt my brakes shutter than heard a whirring noise and lights started coming on saying my antilock bracks needed service. Was told that my truck needed a new antilock pumpand that it was out of warranty by 3000 miles nothing was done up to this point

Abs activation at speeds under 20 mph, sometimes jerk the wheel to the right, for no apparent reason. Mechanic replaced abs wheel sensors, problem even worse, and told to bring it to gm.

My wife and i were traveling down a steep hill with a stop sign at the bottom. I proceeded to begin pumping the brakes to slow down, as i was pumping the brake, the pedal kept going down further and further to the floor. It went all the way to the floor and a red warning light came on telling me to service the brake system. I used the emergency brake at the last minute to come to a complete halt. I got out and noticed some oil on the pavement that turned out to be brake fluid. I stopped at an auto place and bought a large bottle of brake fluid to fill the master cylinder. I then stepped on the brake and could see the fluid spewing out of one of the brake lines. The brake lines are very badly corroded. I towed the vehicle to my neighborhood mechanic and he informed me that another chevy truck was there with the same problem. This near miss truly scared both me and my wife and we were both grateful we didn't have a serious crash. The vehicle is now at a chevy dealer for repair and they will be starting the work on thursday, april 21st. I did contact gm to complain about what i believe is a very serious safety issue, they have called me to ask for the details. I've researched this problem online and found that there are numerous chevy truck vehicles with the same corroded brake lines so i decided to put in a complaint. The nhtsa has complaint #odi 10358067 already in it's database and i suspect many others based on what i see online. Chevy brakes systems have 365 complaints noted at edmunds.com. And i question how many have not been reported. Just a note, i am an ex-engineerand believe the design is very poor and that the material chosen actually begs for failure. Gm engineers should be ashamed of the design. Please contact me if you have questions. Thank you.

2004 chevrolet silverado.consumer writes in regards to brake failure due to rusted brake lines.the consumer was informed when the first line of the dual system failed, the second system received additional pressure whichcaused that one to fail too.

Noted grinding noise from the passenger side of the vehicle when the brakes were applied on a friday evening. Notified the dealership asap on monday. Vehicle was serviced on that tuesday. They found that the rear brakes were grinding and the pads had dug into a rear rotor. They installed new rear rotors and pads as well as the left rear emergency brake shoe. There was no warning to this failure. I believe this to be another case of excessive rear brake wear and premature failure. Customer cost was $557.62 with vehicle still under warranty. The service mileage was 30,419 miles. See tsb 00-05-23-005b, nhtsa id#618104.

When brakes are applied the pedal descends to the floor with minimum response.brakes lose reaction time when pedal is depressed.dealertested the brakes and stated that the brakes were normal.also, dealership tried other vehicles on the lot, and all the brakes reacted the same.

I was exiting freeway and applied brakes to slow down. Pedal went to floor. Luckily i got slowed enoughtostop. Called dealer and had vehicle towed. They replaced two brake lines from master cylinder prop. Valve tobrake pressure mod. Valve. Bad design on this vehichle. Replacement parts were udated without this design. I ask about this and was informed that they did away with the original design. 30,000 dollars rolling down the road looking for an accident. They weren't interested in my safety or correcting the problem at there cost, but were glad to relieve me of 536.00.thank you

Ruptured brake lines, dealer said it is very common, wants $1500 for repair. My daughter has 2003 silverado & the day before her line ruptured also!

2004 chevrolet silverado accelerator got stuck on start up, caused rollover.one person injured.total loss of the vehicle. Also was having problems with the brakes not stopping the vehicle.had it in twice for the brakes, dealership told me that this is theway there suppose to be.i kept on complaining that these brakes were not right.example:when i tried to stop at a red light the vehicle kept on rolling, and i would yell stop, stop.i also had problems with the brake pedal dropping an inch while stopped at red lights.this was a bran new vehicle.

Vehicle was having a difficult time slowing down when the brakes were applied, especially when towing items. Dealer was notified by consumer, but refused to repair vehicle.

Recall # 05 v 043 000/bos/hydro booster/hydraulic brake: consumer is reporting that while driving at highway speeds the brake booster pressure accumulator blew off the vehicle. Consumer was able to bring the vehicle to a stop. Vehicle was taken to a repair shop. The mechanic confirmed that the brake accumulator needed to be replaced.

When attempting to apply the brake from a low speed the pedalintermittently proceeded to the floor. Please provide additional information.problem could not be found by dealership.*tc

05v043000/hydraulic brake bosch. The consumer is experiencing a problem with the brakes and steering. The consumer stated that when driving and applying the brake, the vehicle lost power steering. The brake does not return to its normal position after the brake has been released causing the vehicle to lose power steering. Owner took the vehicle back to the dealer and was told that because they can not duplicate the problem they will not do anything. Also the owner contacted the manufacturer and was told that there are no recalls on this vehicle, what so ever.provide further details.

Dt:the contact statedsince purchase of the vehiclethe brakes have been weak and spongy.the brakes were not able to stop the vehicle properly and it took an extreme amount of pressure to stop.the vehicle has been inspected by the sales dealership and two other dealerships and they all stated there wasnothing wrong with the brakes.updated 1/11/2006.

Brake rotors deteriorated to put they had to be replaced, could not be resurfaced. Found many other people have had same problem. Seems to me gm has used inferior metal.truck is used only for occasional hauling. Truck is 2 wheel drive - no off roading.

Brake line rusted and burst

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado diesel. The contact stated that while the brake pedal was depressed and the gear selector was placed in drive, the vehicle emitted a loud banging noise and the brake pedal depressed to the floor. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed brake fluid leaking and spilling over the engine. The vehicle was then towed to an authorized dealer for examination. The dealer stated that there was a power steering failure and a brake booster failure. The manufacturer was notified and a complaint was lodged. The dealer replaced the brake booster assembly and the vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 82,301 and the current mileage 82,600.

The vehicle's brakes failed without warning. The dealer stated thatthe brake booster was the cause of the failure.

2004 chevrolet silverado has severely rusted and corroded brake lines. Must be replaced. With all the emphasis on safety it is absurd that these vehicles do not have corrosion proof ( stainless steel brake lines).repair will be very costly. I had three ford pickups prior to this chevrolet, kept them for a minimum of 10 years and never had a brake line problem. These are obviously inferior/defective and vehicle should be recalled and the brake lines replaced at chevrolet's expense.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. Thecontact stated while driving at approximately 40 mph and applying the brakes, the brakes were hesitant to engage. He had to depress the brake pedal into the floorboard in order to bring the vehicle to a stop. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic but the failure could not be duplicated. The dealer advised there were no recalls on the vehicle. The failure mileage was 79,000 and the current mileage was 80,000.

Dt*:the contact stated the brakes on the vehicle feel spongy.the brake pedal must be depressed hard at 5mph and below before the vehicle stops completely.the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection.the dealer stated after the inspection, part of normal maintenance would be to replace the brakes; however the contact did not replace the brakes.

While driving 55 mph and attempting to stop the brake pedal went to the floor and the brake service light came on . Please provide additional information.

2004 chevrolet silverado.when decelerating to stop for a red light, the abs system activated causing the vehicles deceleration to decrease, thus increasing the stopping distance, resulting in a near collision.the vehicle now does this consistently during every stop once the vehicles speed drops bellow 10 mph.there are no warning lights indicating anything is wrong with the vehicle, which is even more alarming.this problem seems to be identical to that in nhtsa campaign id number 05v379000.if there is an problem with speed sensing (as in nhtsa campaign id number: 05v379000), the system should be able to detect inconsistent sensor readings and render the abs system into a passive mode as a fail safe measure.

1) while backing up a travel trailer into my driveway, the steering wheel became impossible to turn and in addition there was no power brake function in the truck.2)without steering or braking power the truck was impossible to drive.had this event occurred just minutes earlier when we were traveling a narrow and winding mountain road, a major crash with lives lost could have easily occurred.3)we have an appointment to have the truck towed to a chevy dealer on september 26.i understand that a recall involving this problem was to be initiated last february, but we have had no notification even though we are the original owners of the truck and live at the same address as when the truck was purchased new.

There are 3 recalls on my vehical why have i not been notified

Dt:2004 chevy silevraldo that has 10,700 miles that is experiencing brake problems.the truck is currently at dealer for repair.the first instance occurred at about 1,000 miles.the issue is at low speeds such as being at an intersection or red light and when brake pressure is applied -it goes all the way to floor.there is an increased stopping distance at low speeds.no sounds or noises when this occurs.this happens under any circumstances such as wet or dry conditions.occasionaly when turning to the left and applying brake pressure there is a grinding noise but suspects this may be due to the tire.currently truck is in shop for the second time awaiting inspection of the brakes.the first incident was noted as normal by dealer even though consumer thought this was a safety issue.no repairs were made the first time.nm

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado.the contact stated that the antilock brake sensor indicator illuminates immediately while attempting to stop from 5-10 mph.this is during a soft stop, not a hard stop; therefore, the sensor should not illuminate at that speed.the weather and speed are not factors.the contact paid $90 to have the vehicle diagnosed; however, the failure still persists.the failure mileage was 32,000.

2004 chevrolet silverado rear rotors and disc pads found to be defective.*mrone year after initial vehicle inspection the technician determined that the pads were bad and therotors were rusted and pitted.the truck only had 15900 miles at the time of the inspection.

On two separate occasions power steering malfunctioned, andbrakesfailed. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection.mechanic determined that the hydraulic brakes needed to be replaced.

I purchased a 2004 silverado in dec of 03. I had brake problems since the first day. The brake are very soft and often the pedal goes to the floor. The truck just will not stop safely. I have taken the truck back to the dealer where i purchased it and they say there is no problem. Because of the poor brake system i had an accident 1 month after buying the truck.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado. While driving approximately 15 mph, the driver depressed the brake pedal but the brakes would not respond. The vehicle eventually came to a stop after repeatedly applying the brakes. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostics where the mechanic advised the contact that two of the brake lines were corroded and would have to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure later recurred. The vehicle was repaired a second time. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000.

Mushy brake pedal goes almost to floor and requires extreme pressure on pedal, especially at slow speeds, worse with load.no consequences yet.problem since new and dealer said brakes would wear in ok, now 40,000 mi and problem worse.

Going downhill on a s curve, i was applying my brakes to slow down and pedal went to the floor had to pump a few times to get brakes.

Abs pump motor running constant even when vehicle is off and key is out.

Consumer's vehiclewas involved in two collisions caused by brake failure.the first collision involved a vehiclemaking a u turn and consumer's vehicle traveling 40 mph was unable to stop and stroke the other vehicle. During thesecondcollision consumer's vehiclewas traveling at 35 mph, was unable to stop, and collided with another vehicle. Consumer contactedthe manufacturer involving an upcoming recall, and was told that notification will take place in two-three weeks.

While driving 60 mph driver applied the brakes andpedal went to the floor.this caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle, and hit another vehicle on the passenger side. Upon impact, both airbags did not deploy. There were no injuries.

Dt:not had a brake problem until applied brake pressure. While driving homesaw road construction and hit brakes and slid to what seemed a long way.felt there was extendedstopping distance.this was the first incident of this type.this did result in an accident, striking vehicle in front.no repairs.one person died as a result of this accident. Consumer feltbrakes contributed to this accident.

In june, 2004, mr. Wold began experiencing mechanical problems his 2004 chevy silverado truck. To begin with, the abs brake light in the new silverado came onand intermittently stayed on. In july of 2004, mr. Wold took truck for servicing at riverside auto center in bonners ferry, idaho for investigation of this problem with no success. In early december 2004, the abs light continued to come on and the brakes were now not functioning properly.the first time that the brakes on the truck failed, mr. Wold was exiting his driveway. Fortunately, the surface was fairly flat and mr. Wold was able to coast to a stop. After examining the truck for any outward signs of brake failure, mr. Wold took the vehicle in for servicing.the second time that the brakes failed on the 2004 silverado, the situation was a serious threat to life and property. Mr. Wold was pulling a four (4) horse trailer and coming down a hill towards the town of bonners ferry. The speed limit on this particular grade decreases from 60 to 45 and then again, to 35. As mr. Wold began to brake from 45 to 35, once again the brake pedal was pushed all the way to the floor and there was no response.luckily, it was a sunday afternoon and there was little traffic on the road. As mr. Wold frantically rolled through a bypass through the town of bonners ferry, he attempted to engage the brakes again, and fortunately, they engaged after he had illegally and unsafely rolled through the middle of a bypass through town.again, mr. Wold took the vehicle in for servicing and repair.the last, frightening episode of brake failure occurred in the evening, after mr. Wold was driving home from work. Again, as he decelerated and lightly applied his brakes while coming into town, the brakes were non responsive. After this last episode, mr. Wold doubted the safety of the brakes on his new truck and feared that the brakes would not function properly and kill him or somebody else.

When placing the vehicle in drive/reverse after start up, the on board diagnostics reports "service brake system".a complete brake inspection has been performed with no indication of any type of issue.this is an intermittent problem.if the diagnostics reports this failure, i can turn the vehicle off and wait a few seconds and re-start the vehicle with no failure report.i took the vehicle to the dealer, melbourne chevrolet, melbourne, fl, they reported that they were aware that if a vehicle remained idle for any period of time, this type of code would be a result of salt water corrosion.i have 28,000 miles on this vehicle.i have done some research and found that gm has had similar recalls on the silverado's but not for my year/area.

Contact states:while driving approximately 35 mph vehicle in front slammed on brakes when driver tried to stop andmissed that vehicle, but brakes failed, causing an accident.afterwards brakes worked, but sustained $ 2,700 worth of damage.repair work was being done today.

While driving at low speeds consumer heard a popping noise. Then, the abs light came on, and the brake pedal went to the floor. Consumertried to turn the steering wheel to avoid hitting another vehicle, and the steering wheel locked up.consumer's vehicle collided with the other vehicle, but no damage was sustained due to the low speeddriving at time of impact. There was brake valve recall 04v045000, but this vehicle was not included due to vin.

2004 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd has antilock brakeproblems.the antilock wheel sensor became dirty which caused the antilock to engage right at the end of braking causing it to take longer to stop the truck.the manual never indicated that the sensors needed to be checked or cleaned.there was no warning for this failure.

Traffic came to quick stop i did a rapid push on the brake pedal and nothing happened no brake lock at all and rear ended the person in front of me, causing major damage to front of my vehicle and my air bag did not even deploy.

My 2004 chevrolet silverado has dangerous brake problems.the brakes give way unexpectedly with the pedal going all the way to the floor.this has happened four times in the past two months- each time the situation was different.the first time i was just parking the car in the garage moving it from the driveway.the second time i was pulling a trailer loaded with a tractor across town and the only thing that stopped me was the electric brakes on the trailer.the third time was moving it across the yard.the last time was in the city driving to a store, i was going down a hill to a red light.the pedal suddenly gives way and goes all the way to the floor with no warning.it then begins working again just as suddenly as it quit.the brake pedal will snap back up and the brakes start to hold again.one time it took 15 minutes before it started working again, the other times it was a matter of 3 to 5 minutes without brakes.

The vechicle's anti-lock brakes failed!

I had the following problem with my 1999 silverado as well:while driving my 2004 silverado down rt. 128 in ma. At rate of speed of about 45 mph the person in front of me approximately 75 feet (?) stopped suddenly. There was plenty of distance to stop. If i was driving my 1968 dodge dart with 1 brake and bald tires i could have stopped. However, while driving the 2004 modern computer controlled vehicle, the truck failed to stop and i rear-ended the driver in front of me. The air bag was not deployed because of the slow rate of speed. The reason the truck failed is because abs would not stop the tires because the road was rough like a wash board. The truck just kept rolling forward at a slow rate and i could not turn off due to the guardrail and traffic to my right. I watched my new truck slowly hit the person in front of me. They were driving a nissan that just got a scratch on it. My chevy silverado heavy duty 2500 fell apart on the highway. The entire front end of body parts were on the ground. I now have a giant insurance rate that i am disputing. There has to be a stop to these abs. How did i make it 38 years without helmets and abs. This is getting ridiculous.

While braking at 40 mph the brakes failed intermittently, resultinginextended stopping distance.dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

Dt:in january 2005 the consumer's husband was driving at 30 mph when the brakes and steering locked up. In january 2005 there was a light snow . The consumer took the vehicle to the mechanic and found out that the brakes were corroded. The vehicle had a little under 20,000 miles on it.on august 31, 2005the same thing happened and it was wet outside. The air bags did not deploy. There was no for warning.*mr

Dt: a 2004 2500 hd chevrolet truck hit consumer'sson in ford ranger. The chevrolet momentarily stopped, and then hit consumer'sson with a light impact.recall id 05v043000 was issued onbrake problems & difficult steering. The tie rod end broke, and it appeared they were not well built to break with only a light impact. Consumerfiled a complaint with chevrolet. The chevroletdriver sustained chest problems and heart racing from the accident.

2004 chevy silverado ls ext. Cab 1500 4x4. Brake pedal going to floor board when applying brakes. Must pump brake pedal to be able to stop. Has happened 12 to 15 times since i took delivery 12/20/03. Have taken to dealer 2 times and of course did not show up when they test drove it. Service manager said not to pump thebrake pedal because of the antilock brakes, they are suppose to act and stop the truck. Told service manager truck is still rolling with pedal to the floor and if you don't pump them you will not stop and probably be involved in accident. I did not feel any antilock action, pulsations. Alsohave seen same problems and complaints on the internet with chevy and gmc pickups. Seems to actup more on cold and damp days. Contactedbrian landin at customer relations in detroit. He said don't beleave anything you see on the internet. We had 3way conversation with service manager at dealership and brian pretty much agreed with his service manager.[if it ain't broke , don't fix it]i tow a 21ft.boatwith surge brakes and must have good brakes on the tow vehicle or you don't stop. He told me to stop being so paranoid and to contact my service manager if i have further problems. I told him that if i have an accident, my lawyer will be in contact with him. It was left at that point. I see that chevy and gmc are calling back 1999 to 2002 pickups and suv's for brake problems. Could this be inherited problem with all there trucks , seeing that they completely revamped their brake system for the 2005 year. If you have any answers to this problem or fixes, please contact me. Seems to me that there is some problem with the master cylinder? thankyou, roland torok ps: milage is 17,400

Hydraulic brake system is ineffective in stopping this vehicle.brakes are spongy and go to the floor when stopped or if hard pressure is applied.this vehicle would not stop if a child ran in front of it.three attempts to repair and now we are told it is part of the design and if we used it more this would help.the newer models do not have this system.i wonder why?

Dt: the contact stated that 2004 chevrolet silverado failed to stop and crashed into another vehicle. The speed was around 40 mph when the driver went to apply the brakes and the abs did not engage. The brake pedal went completely to the floor. The contactwas standing up in the vehicle and mashed the brake to the floor. There was plenty time to stop, but the contact's vehicle went sliding into another vehicle. This created a chain reaction with other vehicles. The total of number of vehicle involved in the accident were four. Neither the dealership nor the manufacturer were contacted about the brake failure. A police report was taken. There is a picture of the front end of the drivers vehicle. The problem with the brakes was intermittent. The vehicle has not been checked for the brake problem by a dealership or independent party. The property damage did affect three other vehicles.updated 11/29/05.

While driving, the service brakelight appeared on the dashboard and remained on.the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and the mechanic determined that computer has to be reset by the manufacturer.at this time the software had not been approved bythe epa.the vehicle was operating as designed. The consumer was unsure if the system was working properly. *sc

3 month old 2004 silvarado 4x4 had, started displaying several error reports, ie service brakes, service 4wd unit, stereo console lights would get extremely bright then dim.took truck to local dealer, power chevrolet of tillamook or.service mngr "bob heagal" stated that the problem was a faulty ignition swich, they replaced switch and truck continued to have same problems, a error code check showed hard coded errors in every module of truck, mechanics also had problems reading codes as equipment was not communicating with truck.2nd round of diagnosis, service mngr said problem was with ecbm (electronic brake control module), they state they replaced the lower ecbm unit and were still receiveing error codes, mngr said that they are currently waiting for the upper unit to arrive, this was over two weeks ago.

Brakes failed while approaching intersection causing vehicle to come to stop in the middle of intersection.applied brakes lightly while approaching the intersection, and when appling brakes harder, to come to complete stop, they went to the floor, causing vehicle to roll into intersection before stopping almost being broadsided.my wife had the same failure on two other occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for the brakes feeling spongy on two other occasions and we were told,"the brakes are working normal" after the near accident on 6/7/05 it was taken to the dealer again and i was told by the service manager that they would bleed the brakes and that they would contact gm about the problem .the service manager told me to get rid of the truck as the brakes could not be repaired. I filed a claim with gm that evening and they got back to me on 6/10/05 saying there was nothing they would do to fix the problem.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado. The contact took the vehicle to a local repair facility to have the tires rotated when he was informed that the entire lower ball joint assembly was defective and the caliper and brake pads were loose and flopping around. The mechanic refused to repair the vehicle because of the severity of problem. The contact drove the vehicle to an authorized dealer but was told that it could not be inspected until the following week. The contact had not called the manufacturer when the complaint was filed. The vehicle was not repaired. The current and failure mileages were approximately 91,200.

We purchased a new 2004 chevrolet silverado that currently has only 11,475 miles on the vehicle. I was informed during a safety inspection that the brake rotors and brakes need to be replaced (complete) and had commented he has experienced "many failures" such as mine. Failure due to porous casting of rotors causing pads to become unusable. Servicing dealer that inspected failure listed as rust? the repair will cost in excess of $700.00. In researching the failure i found interesting documentation that the failure of the rotor material has been an ongoing problem with chevrolet products and many claims have been filed with the nhtsa. I am aware chevrolet has paid claims to others with the same conditions and i feel the nhtsa should look at this problembefore there are fatalities caused by this material failure. Repairs have been made by chevrolet at not cost to me however i was not entitled to the original parts since cost to me was waived. Now we can only hope the new rotors have a better service life then the original set.

Outside disc brake pad on right rear wheel wears out prematurely causing the brake disc to be damaged.rear right side axle is alloed to float from side to side in the axle housing allowing the brake pad to be loaded by the weight of the triuck during normal operation.this loading causes the premature brake pad wear.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado.while driving 25 mph, the brake pedal extended to the floor when depressed.the contact shifted into first gear.the vehicle coasted for three minutes before it stopped.the emergency brake was not applied.the contact drove the vehicle home without functioning brakes.he inspected the vehicle and determined that the failure was caused by a split left rotor.the rotor was replaced.the defective rotor is available, if needed.the current and failure mileages were 68,000.updated 12/12/2007 updated 12/12/07

1. I observered on 3 occassions intermittent low speed braking problems. I took the vehicle to the dealer on 23may05 and they found nothing wrong.2. While parked and idling the vehicle on 11jun05, there was a loud bang noise from under the hood. A part of the braking sytem from under the hood looks like it seperated under pressure from the rest of the master cylinder. This resulted in loss off most brake fluid.3. Vehicle was towed to shop, but repairs will not commence till 13jun05.

Death was the result of a crash involving a 2004 silverado truck, dually.my son, gene, deceased owner, was returning homewhen truck skidded and rolled over at least twice, killing him.i think there may have been a problem with the brakes orpower steering, but am not sure how to proceed with this.i hope you can help in some way.gene's work was on the road, and he lived on the road.although alcohol was a factor in the crash , his mother spoke to him within the hour of his death and he did not seem very intoxicated.

Clunking and rattling noise in steering shaft that can be felt in steering wheel.dealer and gm acknowledges problem but will not fix it under warranty.dealer says that gm has not come up with a fix for the problem.dealer also says that problem is not a safety problem but i am concerned.dealer also states that this occurs in other models such as suburbans and avalanches, etc.

Just bought this truck and there is a clunking, thumping, in the steering column. My mechanic says there is a problem with all full size gm products, gm needs to fix this with a permanent fix. How can this not be a safety issue? i bought this truck for safety of my family.

2004 chevrolet silverado...the steering column makes a horrible clunking noise. We have had it replaced several times under warranty but now there's no warranty and these parts and labor are too expensive to fix.the dealer says and i know from owning another 2003 chevrolet suburban than this is a major problem with these year model trucks and suvs.we shouldn't have to pay for something they can obviously see is wrong! sometimes it feels like the steering is not acting right because of it and i feel unsafe driving in these conditions. Please help!!!!

The intermediate steering shaft on my chevy silverado has become loose again and not only does it make a clunking sound with vibrations, it now allows the steering to unexpectedly drift over un even pavement or at highway speeds in a cross wind. Has been fixed once.

Clunking in intermediate steering shaft.this is the 2nd time in 35,000 miles the intermediate steering shaft needed to be greased.gm did not have a fix for the problem other than greasing it again.it will need to be greased again in ~ 10k miles...this is unacceptable!

Steering would lock up at low speeds.

Steering shaft noise and vibration on 2004 chevy silverado there is a clunking and vibration in the steering when turning at lower speeds. All front end components were verified to be in good condition with no play. Clunking is believed to be coming from the steering column.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado.while driving approximately 20 mph, the steering wheel would vibrate.the dealer stated that the intermediate steering shaft needed to be replaced.the manufacturer stated that the dealer could not order the part and advised him to check with another dealer.the current mileage is 22,200 and failure mileage was 7,500.

Steering column vibration and heavy "clunk" on turning, truck was looked at several times under warranty, and steering column was "greased" to fix issue, which made noise disappear for short period of time. Problem becoming more frequent, and "grease" fix lasting less time each attempt.

The intermediate steering shaft on chevrolet silverado trucks becomes loose and allows steering to unexpectedly drift over uneven ground or at highway speeds in a cross wind. When i bought my 04 silverado truck used in february of this year i noticed a klunking in the steering.after getting it checked out i found out that it was the upper intermediate steering shaft.my father-in-law bought an 02 and had the same problem.well after doing some research i found out that this is a huge problem with the 01-05 silverados.i have spoken to other owners about this and a couple have said that gm said that its not a safety issue so they wouldn't fix it.they make a replacement for this shaft but it is $92 and then they have to put it in.i think that if it is a problem that is this big that they should fix it for free.i just want to make it known that we the gm owners are getting shafted you could say and they don't care.i wanted to see what i could do to try to get them to help us out.

Steering shaft rattles.more severe while turning curves, or on bumpy roads.no failure yet.dealer will only apply grease.no recall notification to date, dealer has not replaced.

While driving a rattling noise was coming from the front.consumerdrove vehicle to the dealer, andmechanic determined that steering wheel shaft needed to be replaced.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving 5 mph coming out of a parking space the steering system started making noises.the vehicle was taken to the dealership who ordered the part to resolve the problem. Three months later the part arrived and the vehicle was repaired.after driving the vehicle for two months the noise reoccurred worst because it occurred at any speed.the vehicle has been taken four times to different dealerships but none of them has been able to correct the problem.

When at low idle the power steering is inoperable. I have taken this to my dealer @ told it is normal . I do not feel that a car that is extremely hard to turn at low idle is considered normal.

On 12/24/06 i started having trouble with steering and braking, on 12/26/06 i lost the ability to steeror to brake. On 12/28/06i took the truck to parks chevrolet in charlotte, nc---i was told that the truck was unsafe to drive unless i replaced the brake hydrd-booster, i agreed to at a cost of $784.81.

I have owned my 2004 chevy silverado since sept. Of 2004 without any problems.just recently, however, my power steering is failing at speeds below 10 miles per hour.i have taken it to the dealer and have been informed that this is common for the car and that there is nothing they can do.i was presented with a bulletin stating as much.i believe that power steering loss at any speed poses a significant risk to me, pedestrians, and property.i would like to see this problem resolved.my understanding is that there are many silverado owners experiencing this problem.failure is now a daily occurrence. Please advise.

The truck loses power steering assist in slow turning maneuversthere were no events leading up to the failure.the failure occurred at about 2000 miles and has persisted to 20,000 miles.i have had the vehicle serviced over 25 times.the dealership has replaced the steering gear 2 times, the power steering pump, the hoses for the power steering pump, the hydraulic vacuum assist 2 times and then placed a manual vacuum assist the third time which is not original equipment, they have replaced the electronic control for the vacuum assist 3 times and most recently replaced the electronic fuse control for the vacuum assist.

On two separate occasions power steering malfunctioned, andbrakesfailed. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection.mechanic determined that the hydraulic brakes needed to be replaced.

The consumer was making a u turnand without warning the steering wheel failed. The steering wheel was hard and difficult to turn. The consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer.the mechanic informed the consumer that thepower steering pump needed to be replaced.

2004 chevrolet silverado.the problem i have been having with this truck started from day one. When i purchased this truck it was right off the showroom floor it was sold to me with brand new gm certified 20" rims and tires which really make the truck look great but one thing they failed to tell me was that the steering on the truck would be effected. I have brought the truck back several times for the following problem.when the vehicle is not in motion the steering on the truck is very very hard to turn as if it does'nt have power steering. This makes turning the truck around or backing into an area were you must first turn the wheel very hard. After the second time i took the truck back to ricart chevy on hamiltoin rd they told me that they could not fix the problem and it would be somthing i would have to live with. When i heard this i went to the ricart coorprate level and they got a gm rep. Involved .when i talked to the rep for this area he told me that they could not fix it and that all the trucks in the ricart truck lot with these 20" wheels all did the same thing. I questioned him about the fact that they know there is a problem but the are still putting them on the trucks? his reply was they are now having a waiver signed for people purchasing the truck with these wheels are going to have this type of trouble.now i am no wizard engineer but common sense should say fix the truck correctly. I dont know if this could cause an accident or injury but it sure would be hard to get out of the way if your vehicle would not turn from a standing position.at this time i am trying to get this resolved but i dont seem to be gaining any ground and could sure use your help. I have asked them to fix the truck or refund my money in full but both requests have been denied.

Was having trouble with truck pulling from right to left and back.took back to dealer to check and dealer repair shop said that the front end had not been aligned nor suppossedly the steering column not properly secured.

Loose steering components on 3 gm vehicles i own.dealer replaced once at 7000 miles. Problem occurred again at 14,000 miles. Same problem has occurred on my 2005 cadillac escalade and 2003 chevrolet suburban.evidenced by loud clunk when driving. Loose steering components could lead to failure.was told by dealer that he had ordered over 150 of the same components at the time of first replacement.gm refuses to replace components, instead packing with grease as a temporary fix. Problem will be on going until sub-standard parts are replaced.

My 2004 chevrolet silverado z71 has a failure in the steering column linkage where it makes a clunking & whining noise, primarily when turning left.this is a safety issue that my mechanic tells me will cause the steering to fail and that almost all of his customers who own late model gm trucks have this failure. My dealer, classic chevrolet, has also confirmed that this is a very common failure in chevy trucks. My 2002 suburban had this same problem and the dealer had to replace it twice before it was repaired properly.

Steering yoke has been fix twice would like it fixed dealers aware of the problem but has no answer all that is said to me is we will repack the yoke this is only good for 4 to 5 mouths what should i do.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that the vehicle headliner separated above the driver area, obstructing the sun visors. The vehicle was taken to a vehicle body specialist for inspection. The technician advised that the headliner border frame and sealant were defective. As a result, additional fabric and sealant was needed to reinforce the defective liner. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer stated that the defective liner was not recalled. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.

Consumer stated that every time he entered the vehicle he would have an allergic reaction to the vehicle. He did not know if it was the leather interior. He got hives all over his body.

The contact stated the vehicle was unsafe to drive and that the trailer could have disconnected and caused a crash due to the inaccuracy of the tow load limit.the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 79,000.

Front bumper bracket is broken, and the bumper may fall off. Dealer said they have replaced numerous brackets, but i have too many miles on my vehicle to replace. 2004, chevrolet duramax 2500 hd.

While standing on the tailgate both tailgate straps snapped. Consumer sustained minor injuries. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

After reading about the problems with tailgates on gm vehicles, i checked mine.i noticed that the left one was loose and not supporting any of the weight of the tailgate when the gate was open.as i examined it further, it came apart in my hand.the only thing holding it together was the plastic.

The plastic tailgate handle bezel keeps falling out everytime the tailgate is lowered.it may fly off while driving in traffic, causing an accident behind my truck.

Yesterday i was standing on my tailgate to strap down the lumber on my overhead rack.suddenly the tailgate collapse down and slams into my bumper.i was shaken but not hurt.i was looking at my tailgate to determine what had just happened, i noticed that both cables that hold up the tailgate were brokenapart in the center of each of them. They looked like they had rusted. When the tailgate hit the bumper it caused a dent in the back of the tailgate.

I have a2004 chevy 3500 silverado, with 50,000 miles on, i noticed a clicking noise in the right front.with further investigation, i noticed that the front wheel was loose on the truck. The wheel bearing was loose. I called general motors and discussed the bearing failure. I got the new bearing and started to do the repair. I noticed that everything looked new yet, but the bearing was coming apart. The bearing is a sealed unit-it is pressed together. The bearing is not manufactured properly- it is not pressed together right so that the front tire could fall off and cause serious accidents. I am sure there is alot of failure on these bearings and this should be checked out. When these bearings fail because of the pressed fit, they self destruct violently and there is no way you can look at it after it fails unless you catch it early. I caught mine early and it can be a dangerous situation to the public.i made general motors aware of the problem on their 800 number and they refused to address the problem with me.

The problem started soon after i drove the new 2004 chevrolet silverado extended cab off the lot.when traveling between 60-70 mph, the trucks suspension will bounce almost as if there are no shock absorbers.this bouncing will continue until the speed is reduced to below 55 mph.i brought the truck in to the pittsburgh, ca dealer and complained.they said it was only a "california concrete highway" problem.they said it was the road and not the truck.i have this problem almost continually now, i complained to chevrolet's customer complaint section, who gave me the same answer.the problem with their answer is that i own a 1996 chevrolet silverado extended cab truck that does not go intouncontrollable bouncing as this one does.i also drive a chevrolet avalanche that does not bounce uncontrollably as this one does when driven at the same speeds on the same stretches of roadway.i believe there is either something wrong with the shock absorbers or the frame of the truck.the bouncing is so bad that it feels like the wheels are actually leaving the ground.i believe this is a serious safety issue that chevrolet should address.my problem remains unresolved.

The consumer stated the coil spring insulators failed.

I am an automobile mechanic and have been for over twenty years. On 9\17\04 i purchased a brand new 04 chevrolet silverado super sport, a truck that the gm factory lowered two inches in the front and four inches in the rear. The first night i owned the truck i noticed a series suspension problem. On monday i looked under the front suspension and realized the factory lowered the front end right down on the bump stops, so it has no front suspension. I took the truck back to the dealer and told them the problem they said, oh yea there all like that. I was driving home on 9\26\04 doing 70 mph on the freeway and hit a little tiny bump in the road and almost lost control of the truck. When i hit a bump the front tires come off the ground. This truck is very unsafe i can go over even the smallest bump and feel the front end come off the ground. This truck is a very limited edition. I emailed gm and asked them if it would be ok to lower my truck down on to the bump stops they told me that would not be recommended for safety reasons! so i ask you why did there factory do it if they know it is unsafe. One last thing this truck is very hard to stop it dozen`t transfer weight when braking. It sure is a pretty truck though just not safe.

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle will not align properly. The improper alignment resulted in premature tire wear on the outside of the tires. The problem manifests itself with the right front tire showing excessive outside wear and eventually affects every tire. The vehicle has been maintained with proper tire rotation and is only driven on the highway. The front end has been aligned three times by the service dealer without getting a proper alignment. Also, with every alignment attempt the tires were replaced. The dealer contacted the manufacturer who determined this was a normal characteristic of the vehicle, although the vehicle has dual wheels.

The2004 silverado 1500 continuedto give problems.i had the speedometer cluster replaced recently to resolve that issue, but the vehicle shimmied and bouncedas it wentdown the highway.i knewitwas the vehicle because i didn't have this experience on my other cars on the same highway.

Chevrolet dealership in gaylord, michigan installed dunlop at20 grandtrek p245/75r16 tires on my hd 2500 silverado pickup truck.this truck is a 3/4 ton pickup. These tires were passenger tires rated at 4 ply and never designed to be installed on a 3/4 ton pickup truck. I was not aware of this until june 2014 when i learned this from the goodyear tire corp. After they sent me to have their tires inspected. My truck requires lt tires and at least 10 ply. Chevrolet dealership in gaylord made my truck unsafe and dangerous to drive.one tire eventually blew out on the expressway, fortunately a motorist i was passing pulled up along side us and signaled that we had a problem up front at the passenger side wheel area! question is, why would a chevrolet dealership not know what tires to install on their own chevrolet silverado pickup trucks? i asked them to put on the correct tires ( 10 ply - lt tires) according to the placard located on my drivers side door at no charge but they refused now what action is to be taken against a dealership who would do this? i had lt tires on the truck back in june of 2010 when i pulled into this chevy dealership to have one tire repaired because of a slow leak. They talked me into buying 4 new tires and these are the ones they recommended and i agreed to. I did not know that these were not designed to be used on a 3/4 ton pickup truck. I had 75k miles on the truck then and to make matters worse they gave me free rotations every 6 - 8k miles without ever telling me they had installed incorrect tires on my truck!this is a nightmare!what do you suggest i do?gm has been zerohelp in this matter!!!!---i've tried but they are worthless! and this dealership is pathetic that they will not acknowledge their mistake and correct it by refunding my money back!i could have been killed or another motorist or seriously injured someone.

I own a 2004 chevy silverado 2500hd. On 11 feb 2005 i noticed some rust on my trailer hitch. I inspected it and found that there is rust around the welds, and that one of the welds is completely cracked. I went to the dealer and was told that the only fix is to re-weld it. I told them that i did not want it welded, i wanted it replaced. This is a warranty item. I feel that if the original robotic welds were not holding, then why weaken the metal more by heating it up again and re-welding it. I expressed my concern that if the hitch was re-welded, and it failed while i was towing and caused a serious accident who would take responsibility. No answer on that question. I have researched on the internet and found that there are several people that have had this problem, and just replaced it with an after market hitch. I have also seen the pictures of a serious accident caused by a gm hitch failure. As of right now, i do not have a solution to this problem other than the dealership will not replace this gm installed, under warranty hitch. The dealership wants to re-weld it. I think this can be a serious safety issue due to the fact that most people do not take the time to inspect there trailer hitches, and just hook up and take there family out for a weekend trip pulling there travel trailers. I will continue to try and work with gm and the dealership to get this problem solved.

After reading on several web forums about gm hitch receiver problems, i checked mine and was shocked that all but one weld on my receiver showed signs of rusting. Two were to the point where cracked welds were obvious. The dealer offered to replace it but i did not want a gm hitch so i used another receiver at my expense. I had towed a 7700 pound trailer about 20,000 miles max. Hitch has been disposed of. I have some photos (not very good). It is a 2004 chev, 2500hd, diesel.

Speedometer has become erratic on a 2004 chevy silverado @ 47,000 miles.started approx. 5/14/07.does not work right mainly in the afternoons - speed indicates 0-10 mph whether doing 50 mph or 70 mph.contacted chevy dealer on 5/25/07 and have not heard back from them. Ifeel as ifthis is a safety issue that chevy should repair and recall.

Dt*:the contact stated the cd player in the vehicle over heated, resulting in hot air blowing through the air vents.the air conditioner or heat was not in use when the hot air was blowing.the vehicle was taken to the local dealership for inspection.the dealer could not duplicate the problem and no repairs were made.

There is a rattling transmitted through the steering wheel and heard and felt by the driver.it is especially noticeable during low speed driving as well as when turning or driving over rough terrain.it has been identified by gm in a technical service bulletin (tsb number 06-02-3-0056, issue date 1-20-06, cause inadequate lubrication on steering intermediate shaft) for various years of gm trucks.i believe this is an accident waiting to happen and a recall should be made.

2004 chevy silverado customer wants to know is this truck covered in recall**ccthe consumer recently purchased the vehicle with a salvaged title.

Reckless driving -i was driven off the road on purpose by an aggressive driver. It was a car and a half in front of the driver when i yielded to the car on my left prior to condensing into one lane. The vehicle behind us speed up to block me from merging and drove me onto the shoulder. He was driving an olson construction vehicle with missouri plates [xxx]. Looked like he was in his 40's and had blond hair with tattoos.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I recently had a problem withthe heater motor in my 2004 chevy silverado.the heater motor began to make a squealing noise. I took it to the dealership where i purchased it . Mechanics looked it over and i was told the bearing in the heater motor was seizing up ,although the dealership didn't have a new heater motor in stock they were able to get one in a matter of hours. My truck was fixed that same day .i must say i was very impressed and happy with the service i received. Thank you.

Dt*:the contact stated the speedometer intermittently works providing an incorrect reading of the accurate miles per hour, which resulted in a speeding ticket.although the vehicle was seen by a dealer, no repairs were made.

My 2004 chevrolet silverado speedometer was defective/ erratic, and intermittentlyoperating, not reading speed accurately. It wasjumpy, and did notnot work at all at times. The vehicle has 41000 miles , and dealer will not fixit under warranty.

The2004chevrolet, silverado is running 50 plus mph,and speedometer reads zero. When is general going to get there heads out of there.

Like many others i have a 2004 silverado and the speedometer went crazy registers wrong, stats out at 90 mph and goes over a hundred at about 20 miles an hour, i have seen the posts about this problem, looks to me to be a major accident problem! my truck only has 30,000 miles on it! mike queen .

Dt: the consumer complained about aninstant acceleration problem when approaching a stop sign or red light andwhen applying brake pressure.this often occurred when stopping at low speeds, such as10 mphor lower, and was intermittent in nature.this has happened at least five times.when brakes pressure was applied the enginesuddenly revved. The consumer appliedbrake pressure andrear wheels spun, smoke appeared, and burningrubber fell on the pavement.the vehicle has been taken to the dealer several times for this problem.the dealercheckedthe calibration andperformed a diagnostic check.these measuresdid not reveal any type of problem or failure. The dealerinstalleda device into the vehicle to record any incident.however, while the device was installed there were no recorded incidents of this type.a call was made to the manufacturer, who sent a factory representative to inspect the vehicle, no failure was determined.no corrections or repairswere doneat this time.the consumer felt this was still a problem, most recent incident occurred yesterday with no explanation as to why this happened.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the speedometer failed.the vehicle was not repaired. The contact called the manufacturer and was informed that the vehicle was not recalled.the failure mileage was 34,000.

Last month after driving about 1 hour at highway speeds; my speedometer started dropping. It would show i was going 35 on the freeway. This was clearly not accurate. The needle started jumping then dropped to 0. The next day, it was working fine. The next 2 long distance trips i took, the speedometer did the same thing on the way home; not on the trip down. I took my truck to the dealership and was told that it was some sort of cable to the transmission; that there had been a lot of trouble with the speedometer and that there had been a previous recall but it was too late. Bottom line the charge to repair is 440.00. I purchased this vehicle new and it currently has 130,000 miles. I never received any type of recall notice, i live in the same place i did when i purchased the truck, absolutely nothing has changed. How is it too late? if the part is defective, it is defective. If i had received a recall notice to have it fixed i certainly would have taken it in. This is a serious safety issue.

Dt*:the contact stated the speedometer stop working without warning.the dealership determined the speedometer cluster needed to be replaced.updated 02/13/06.

Bought a 2004 chevorlet 2500hd used. One week after purchase the tailgate bezel trim piece was lost on the highway. Then a few months later the speedometer dies on quits working, or works intemittently sometimes sticking.

Dt*:the contact stated the speedometer is inoperable.the dealership determined the speedometer needs to be replaced.

- the contact stated that each time hedrovethe 2004 chevrolet silverado with 47000 failure mileage)at any rate of speed and coming to a stop the speedometer needle did not return to zero.the contact stated that each time the vehicle was put into park and turned off the needle will go to a lower position each time. The vehicle has been taken to the dealer and the vehicle will be repaired at another location.the contact was not able to continue the interview. Returned usps, 2nd attempt made4/05/07 failed .*lj

Speedometer on 2004 chevrolet silverado truck sticks at various places. If i turn off the engine and it is stuck on 30 mph the next time i drive the needlewent up from there as if thatwas zero. So i might only be going 30 mph, but the speedometer saidim going 60 mph. This is dangerous because i don't know what speeed i am going. I have heard of many others with this problem on gm trucks.

Driving through utah at posted speed limit of 75 with cruise control on, the speedometer suddenly started to indicate a deceleration from cruises speed to 30 mph.my vehicle did not physically slow as evidenced by my gps which continued to show actual speed of 75 mph.disengaging the cruise control did slow the vehicle when the actual speeds were 50+/- mph than indicated on speedometer.stopping my vehicle and turning the ignition off apparently reset something?immediately restarting my pickup seemed to remedy the problem for a short period of time.this speedometer problem has persisted for over one yearrequiring the continual use of gps to confirm my actual speeds.i have a significant cause of concern when indicated speeds are significantly faster than indicated.i contacted gm dealership, only to be told they have no idea of the problem and would not confirm the continual problem.in conjunction with the speedometer problem i'm also experiencing problems with the the fuel tank levels.gauges indicate 1/2 tank, however when fueled at that level the tank required nearly 20 gallons of fuel to full.again the gm dealership was not concerned with the safety problem.online searches of similar problem have indicated many chevrolet silverados are experiencing similar safety problems.

2004 chevrolet silverado z71 w/ 44,300 miles is having problems with the speedometer. There is no way to tell how fast i am going. This is a very dangerous and widespread problem with the newer gms.

Consumer complained that vehicle was maintaining the same speed after releasing the accelerator pedal. Speed would continue for 3 seconds or more before the speed was reduced. Vehicle had been to two separate dealers, and both agreed that was the normal characteristic of that vehicle.

The 2004 chevrolet silverado 1500 43000 miles and thespeedometer stopped working and did not register anything.i looked online for recalls and found none pertaining to this.however, i found 208 similar complaints on topix.net/forum/autos/chevrolet-silverado-1500/tr5qab2mn19bl1d2j/p11#lastpost.obviously thiswas a danger and chevrolet should beissuing a recall.all estimates range around 500.00.

Cruise control surges going down hill (accel, decel, accel, decel)appears that computer "gain" and "deadband" are incorrect.dealer says that gm currently does not have a solution to this problem.

1.noticed transmission slipping over the last few months2.a few weeks ago, the tail light, right turn signal and cruise control and dash lights started malfunctioning3.recently, the paint around rear passenger door and roof is peeling.

Windshield wiper motor failure - windshield wiper motor circuit board fails, and windshield wiper motor remains on, even with the switch in the "off" position.

Driver's window rattles when window is not all the way up or down. Dealerstates this is normal for this truck and that there are no fixs.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated after receiving a recall repairs for the blower resistor, the blower failed and as a result the wiring harness and control module started to melt down. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the failure which was directly relatedto the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered to pay half of the repair cost. The vin was not available.the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 112,000.

Front defroster was inoperative. As a result, the heat was blocked off, causing impaired vision. 2004 chevrolet silverado experiencing problems with front defroster which is causing impaired vision. Dealer explained to consumer that the design of the defrost system was to prevent the winshield from cracking at the bottom.*mr

Ambient outside temperature of approximately 25-degrees fahrenheit and lower causes in-cab heater/ac control that determines where air flow will be directed (defrost/floor/dash vents/combo) to stick. Occurs around one time in five; an intermittent problem. If, after commencing driving, the windshield begins to fog over and the outlet selector is stuck in any position other than defrost, it can become impossible to see out the windshield. This has caused dangerous conditions along with requiring me to pull over until the interior of the cabin heats up, allowing the selector switch to function.truck taken to dealer many times under warranty about this problem. At times the truck was left for several days to allow replication. For whatever reason, dealer was unable to replicate the problem thus refusing to try to rectify the problem. It appears the dealers i used (3 total) were unwilling to diagnose the potentially dangerous condition. The dealers responses were such that i was basically told that i would have to live with a potentially dangerous condition.i have learned to leave the switch set in the defrost mode when parking the truck allowing the use of the defrost mode during initial operation during cold weather. Of course, that means the a/c is operating, reducing gas mileage and the cabin takes longer to heat.if i happen to forget to leave the setting at defrost i face possible catastrophe if the windshield fogs severely while operating the vehicle. Generally, when the switching system in inoperative it takes 20 minutes of so for it to begin working again.sure was tiresome hearing dealers escape warranty work by using the "can not replicate" mantra. This lame excuse was used with other problems. When gmc expects me to spend my dollars with them in the future i, too, shall use the "can not replicate" mantra.

2004 duramax will not defrost windshield or warm cab after 1 hour plus of idle operation. If windshield is scraped it fogs over whenoperated down the road to warm the engine. This problem, from freezing temp. And worsens as the temp. Drops. I purchased vehicle 10-30-2003 and gm service says that there is nothing wrong with my truck. Is this true that they are allowed to design and sell a vehicle in this climate that will not warm up enough to defrost the windows in such a period of time. Operation of this vehicle is neither safe for myself or anyone on the road.

Ac troubles: i own two 2004 chevrolet silverado trucks. At least once a week and sometimes several times in one day, the two drivers side vent blow hot air while the other two passenger vents blow cold air as normal.

There is a horrible wind noise on the rear quarter panel windows of my 2004, chevroloet silverado. After several attempts to repair the problem, there is still windnoise apparent.

Operating my pickup on river road (gravel surface), akron, iowa at a speed between 15-20 mph, drivers door window shattered and fell on driver, cutting my left hand.i immediately drove the vehicle to dirks motor company, the chevrolet deale, and reported the defect in the vehicle.the window was replaced on august 18, 2004.the vehicle was purchased in late june 2004.at the time of the defect the vehicle had 4,075 miles.

While driving in inclement weather the windows will not work. The windows does not come down. Consumer states he has had the problem with the windows since he has had the vehicle. Please provide any further information.

The exterior side mirrors on both sides are made of plastic.when the mirrors are wiped scratches appear. Once they are scratched mirrors become useless.also, consumer complained that the windshield wiper blades don't stay onwhen the windshield is washed manually.

I purchased a 2004 chevrolet 2500hd silverado duramax in feb 2004. The exterior mirrors have been vibrating since i have owned it. The dealership has replaced the mirrors once, which did not resolve the issue. They now state that it is a characteristic of the vehicle. I feel this is a safety issue that gm needs to look into instead of ignoring and stating as a characteritic of the vehicle.

Problems with bugs and debris deflected right into the consumer's face while driving.*mrthe left and right door rear view mirrors cause bugs and other debris to be deflected right into the face of whoever is sitting in the driver and passenger seat.the has occurred many times.the consumer has had everything from bug to gravel hit him in the face.the consumer feels the mirrors need to be redesigned.

Dt:the rear view mirrors that were special ordered for thevehicle did not extendfar enough to allow for proper vision when towing a eight foot wide trailer.the dealer and the manufacturer informed and they explained that they could not offer a free remedy.updated 12/7/2005.

Windshield made crackling noise at medium to fast speed (40 mph and up). Took to dealer who agreed that windshield needed to be resealed, which they did. No further problem.

Windshield cracking.

The exterior side mirrors on both sides are made of plastic.when the mirrors are wiped scratches appear. Once they are scratched mirrors become useless.also, consumer complained that the windshield wiper blades don't stay onwhen the windshield is washed manually.

While driving in a very heavy rain storm windshield wipers completely broke. Consumer could not get them to work again. Consumer stated that windshield wipers just flopped to the left, hitting the side view mirror.

While parked on the street, locked and not in use for 7 days, a fire apparently started in the windshield wiper motor. It was significantly damaged and spread to the right front wheel well and left front bumper cowling, before it was put out with a fire extinguisher.the gm investigator has indicated that it is their determination that theproblem started external to the vehicle.

While inspecting the vehicle the driver noticed that both frontal tires lug nuts were loose.the driver drove the vehicle to thedealerand was informed that the lug nuts needed to be replaced.please provide further details.
