Parked in my driveway warming up, bag engaged. Left ear hurt by blast and ringing in left ear.

While driving at 5 mph, the front passenger's side air bag deployed, hitting the consumer.contacted dealer, who was not willing to do anything.the dealer discovered that the module malfunction was due to water damage.after futher dismantling the console in order to repair, it was discovered that the water damage was due to a leak in the left cowl area.consumer feels that gmc should be liable for not having adequate sealing to prevent water from seeping into the cowl area.*scc

No deployment of the airbags during frontal impact collision, totaling car hit 1st, then hitting another car in front of it. *mjs

While driving, theconsumer was involved in a front end collision.upon impact, the air bags deployed. As a result of the deployment, the air bags burned the consumers face and arms.please provide further information.

Consumer was driving at approximately 35 mph, applied brakes but vehicle did not stop in time,and rearend vehicle in front. Upon impact, dual airbags did not deploy, causing back and neck injuries.

Vehicle does not have a driver's or passenger 's airbags or standard passenger on/off switch.manufacturer has been notified.

Abs brake failure; when applying the brakes truck slowed down a little, but did not come to a complete stop, causing driver to rearend another vehicle. This happened on dry pavement, no inclement weather. Driver had plenty of braking distance. The air bags did not deploy when this happened. The truck was towed to the dealer with major bumper damage.

Inflater module. The consumer stated the inflator module was designed poorly. The wires break due to wear in the steering wheel, probably from tilting of steering wheel.this causes the air bag computer to short out.

Transmission went out at 40,000 miles.consumer was told thattransmission was not under warranty. Battery and alternator failed, short circuit fuse caused failure of brake lights and turn signals.injector failed.water pump failed.vehicle jumped out of gear, was towed to dealer who informed consumer that transmission needed replaced, consumer is angry that a vehicle with such low mileage would have transmission failure and chevrolet will not asist in repairs.

The turn signals on the vehicle, 1997 z-71, silverado have not been working dependably since 1997.we took the vehicle to connel chevrolet 3 different times to fix the problem and the turn signals still go out sporadically.we did take the vehicle to fort knox ky where the turn signals were working since 1999.and now (april 3 2003) the turn signals are not working properly again.all the fuses are fine and the light bulbs are all brand new and the turn signal is still not working. *nlm

Approximately in 2006, with only 30,000 miles,i noticed antifreeze pooling under my 1097 silverado pickup.i took my vehicle to an auto repair shop and was told that it needed a new radiator.the radiator was replaced.approximately one month later the same problem.the radiator was again leaking.the radiator was replaced three times until the owner of the repair shop stated that he would no longer replace the radiator and explained that the 1997 silverado pickup was known for a condition called.electrolysis. It was suggested that i remove the battery cable after each time i drove the vehicle.i started to removing the positive battery cable and within 3 weeks the same problem.i then contacted rudolph chevrolet dealership in el paso, texas. They refused to tackle the problem and referred me to emmitt radiator shop, also in el paso, texas.they advised that they would charge $80.00 per hour with a minimum of 10 to 12 hours with no guarantee.they did suggest that i remove both positive and negative battery cables.this is where the problem with the exploding battery comes to light.when i would try to remove the battery cables after each trip, even to the movies or out to dinner, the battery would be so hot that it would burn my hands.i also kept replacing the batteries and finally ask a saleswoman at auto zone supply house what was wrong with the batteries and he pointed to the battery and said, "look at the sides of the battery, how it is extending outward it could explode". Again i was told me that they did not have the equipment to fix the problem.this falls into the category of a lemon and general motors knew of this problem or should have known of this problem the1997 silverado pickup and have placed consumers in harms way.

The air-conditioner was cooling fine one day then the next it wouldn't blow cool air at all. So i take it to the chevrolet mechanic he said the compressor was shot and it would cost about $700 to fix it. One evening i went to crank my truck and it wouldn't do anything but click well guess what it was the starter not cheap another $60. One day i was driving down the road the cop stops me and tells me that i have no brake lights on the right side luckily he warned me but a new harness cost like $50.also my power sterring pump that has went out twice in less than a year costing about $80 each time.the only thing i have to say is that this may be the last chevy that i ever own and that is saying a lot because i myself has owned four my family three that is seven if i can add, so that could be alot of vehicles that could go to another make all together. This is not a threat jus want my air-conditioner fixed, but they say that there is a nationwide backorder just my luck.

Transmission would hesitate before shifting gears. Had entire transmission system replaced along with fuel pump & wiring.

Wireswhichare located within gas tank shorted out,causing vehicle to blow fuse and stall. Also burned the insulation of the wiring.

Two wires inside the fuel tank rubbed the insulation off of the wires, causing a direct short, andvehicle becoming inoperable.vehicle has been repaired.

Problem #1: the fuel pump relay doesn't seem to disengage after first starting the engine and it heats up.this causes rough operating of the engine.further investigation shows that the maxi fuse to the lighting system heats up also, but does not fail. Another area that is affected is the mini fuse to the courtesy lamps.it heats up, but does not fail.the last area to be affected is the evaporative emission canister vacuum switch.it acts as if the wheels are out of balance around 50mph.i have taken this vehicle in to the dealership on a number of occasions and they either can't find anything wrong or try and tell me that the fuel injectors are at fault.they put injector cleaner in the fuel tank on two occasions, which made it run worse.i asked to have the injectors replaced while it was still under warranty and they said they had to follow procedure bulletin #00-06-04-003 before taking that step.the problem still existed, but they haven't offered to replace fuel injectors.my thinking is that the problem is really the ignition switch.can you please advise me of any other similar complaints and how it was resolved?probelm #2:while driving straight highway at about 55 mph steering feels loose and wants shift lanes on it's own.on sweeping turns it turns to the right on it's own.i had the front end alligned and a new set of tires, but the problem still exists.any advise?

Engine is a 6.5 turbo diesel. I bought this vehicle used so have no previous history whether it happened before i owned it. Vehicle engine started to die while driving, occasionally at first. It would restart immediately sometimes and sometimes it had to sit for a while. This problem started in years previous to 2010 intermittently but became more frequent in 2010- 2011. Didn't matter what speed i was traveling, it would quit on the interstate going 75 mph or in driveway going 5 mph. Shut off without warning and immediately like someone turned the key off. All power steering and power brakes failed but fortunately i was able to pull the vehicle over to the side of the road and stop it when it happened, only because i knew how to steer with out power steering and had the strength to do it. With others this could easily cause serious accidents.multiple attempts were made over the years with a mechanic to find the problem with no luck. Finally someone suggested replacing the pmd module which i did in 2011 and it solved the problem for 3 more years. It is now happening again. I was told the pmd module needs to be located outside of the engine compartment because itgets too hot and causes this failure. I believe this constitutes a poor design and a defect that needs to be rectified. Since this happened to my vehicle i have talked with several other people just in my area who own the same type of engine and have had the same problem and others in other areas.

Engine intake anti-freeze leak is a known problem for 1997 chevy trucks and should be a factory paid for fix. But no they don't want to do that, we as consumers have paid as much as 600.00 to 700.00to have gm dealers to do this. Witch i think is wrong!!!!!!!!!

Gm dex cool problem.i have replaced my tranismission.coolant leaks onto the engine.smells like burning coolant all the time.

My major complaint is that of a leaking intake manifold. (5.7l v8).i've noticed many complaints of this problem and it needs to be a recall!

Vehicle would misfire and stall when reaching high temperature. Problem is due to a faulty fuel injector. Dealer and manufacturer have been notified. Feel free to provide any further information.

Consumer states after turning off the engine, there was a motor running that was vibratiing the whole vehicle.consumer looked under vehicle and saw abs burning red cherry hot.

On two occasions vehicle experienced total shut down in heavy traffic. Previously vehicle has been in repair shop on three occasions for similar problem. But dealer informed consumer that problem could not be duplicated.

Engine oil leak.

This vehicle has been a nightmare.the brakes have failed, the steering column has gone out, i had to replace all the tires and get a front end alignment, the alternater went out, and the transmission has never worked correctly.it clanks loudly when shifting gears, doesn't idle correctly, and shuts off.i have had it rebuilt on three separate occasions.on one occasion it even caught on fire.the transmission is back in the shop now. ( dot number: tire size: 16 inch )

In approximately a five week period, my truck has failed to start twice and died once as i crossed a busy intersection. Both times the truck failed to start, the dealer installed a new fuel pump, (now on my third pump) and after the vehicle died in the intersection while moving about 20 mph, a new distributor cap and rotor was installed but the failure could also be fuel pump related. In both cases the mechanic stated on the repair order that the wiring had shorted out. The service manager indicates that he has no solutions and this is not an uncommon occurance. The fact that one never knows if he will successfully make it across several lanes of traffic without the engine quitting is inherently unsafe. A call to chevrolet customer service indicates that they are very sorry but they really don't know just what to tell me.

Mileage now 100000 dealer now identified evo sensor to be faulty. The number of these failures on the nhtsa is extensive is a manufactuerer recall in effect? my opinion is further investigation is mandatory to avoid catastrophic failures and injury.

Consumer experiencing problem with vehicle making loud noise sounds while vehicle is running; dealer notified, and informed consumer that the problem is a defective air intake valve which they can repair, but will void engine warranty if they repair it.

Air conditioner isn't working properly due to the clutch within the a/c compressor burning out, causing hot air to come out.dealer is unable to find the problem until a new transmission is needed.*ml

Didn't get rapaired yet. Chevy will replace pumps, but i have to pay for the fuel system to get flushed because of metal in the system that is from the deffective pump. Which they say is $1100 and i think is outrageous.

Aluminum intake manifold is mounted tocast iron engine block.2 metals expand differently, causing anti freeze to leak from intake manifold in large quantities.

This incident has happened more than once and has not been resolved.while drivingvehicle stalled. Dt: the automobile would not start.no previous problems, this was the first incident.the consumer assumed it was the fuel pump.an independent mechanic came out to inspect the vehicle.he determined the fuel tank sending unit assembly had caught on fire which melted the wiring inside the fuel tank.there were no visible flames, when this incident occurred was unknown.he was unaware of this problem and would have not known unless the mechanic had pulled thefuel pan bed and discovered this failure.the mechanic offered no explanation as to why this happened.the plastic simply melted, and the wiring was burned.there have been no repairs or corrections made at this time.

Owner has a hard time starting vehicle. Owner has to throw gasoline in the throttle body in order to start. Dealer says vehicle needs new fuel pump.

The fuel pump wiring heated up, which caused the pump to fail.

For several months, the truck has been cutting off unexpectedly while driving. This is extremely dangerous as it loses power steering and is very hard to control. It has cut out in the middle of busy intersections as well. Gm is aware there is a problem - they recently sent out a notice claiming they were extending the warranty on the fuel injection pump. However, when i took the vehicle to the dealership they refused to fix the problem. Not only that they refused to sell me parts so that my mechanic could fix it. I am now stuck with a $35,000 truck that is not safe to drive and i cannot get repaired.

Fuel injector valve failed due to additives in california gasoline.

This fuel injector pump was replaced 5 months after the purchase of this truck in july 1997 at 11,232 miles on the odometer.in sept of 2000 the same problems started again and was taken to dealership.they said they could diagnose it unless it was doing the stalling out, so we proceeded to drive the vehicle as it was our only means of transportation.on dec. 26 we had truck towed to dealership to have the same part replaced as was done in 1997 only 5 months after we purchased this new truck.this part as told to us by chevrolet and the dealership they had a special policy # 00064 - our ref # c02653123 thru chevr. Was told that there should be no problem in replacing the part again.now they are renigin on it.said we were over our miles - 120,000 or 11 yrs.the part was going bad at 118,187 in sept., but we kept being told by the dealership that it was not showing up and was probably bad gas.we took it 3 times and they never documented it only fixed other problems.now that the warranty is out, the truck has completely stopped running and they refuse to honor replacing the part that should have been done in sept.so here we are in the middle because of the dealership mechanics refusing to believe it was that until they replaced a water sensor to be able to put the computer on it to verify it and we had already taken it to 2 other mechanics that told us that was the problem and to take it to the dealership since it was a bad part that they were having trouble with since 1994.no one imformed us of this...now we are faced with a bill of over $1700.00 to replace this same part that we knew was bad and we were under the miles of our warranty for this, but since the dealership mechanics said that was not the problem, we kept driving it since it was our only means of getting to work.we need help... Instantaneous power loss while passing semi-truck trailer. Problem confirmed by chevrolet dealer as due to stuck fuel injector.placed driver, passenger and other vehicle occupants at risk of collision.problem had been previously serviced by another chevrolet dealer only one month before. While trying to start the vehicle the engine would not turn over. The consumer checked the fuel pump and found that the connector that feeds the fuel to the pump was burned out.the consumer was concerned because the connector was actually inside of the fuel tank.

While driving down the roadon a right hand curve the steering wheel seems to try to turn right by itself. You have to hold it steady to keep it from going off the road.

When at slow speed there is a popping noise when gears change, dealer could not find problem. *mjs

Transmission slams from 1st to 2nd when hot or vehicle is carrying a load. Transmission specialist tells me that this is a common problem with these trucks. Manufacturer denies a problem exists.

The numbers failure and fatalities and anything that has a series of 9 is only in the boxes so that the form would advance to the next step. Everytime i drive the truck as it is shifting to third gear the rear differental or the tranmission makes a loud klunking sound. I also have a rattle under the vehicle that the dealer says that is the shocks. They have tightened them up but they still rattle. I have contacted gm myself but they refuse to help. My voice is just not loud enough.

The a/t hesitates coming out of a turn at 15 mph when accelerating and is slow to shift up in gears. On wet pavement the transmission catches and spins the rear wheeels causing the vehicle to go side ways. This has been annon going problem. The dealer put in a new transmission when it was only going to be serviced. I wascharged $2,600.00 for the transmission. The only problem is it does the same thing and now leaks fluid. The hotter the transmission gets, the worse it performs. The anti lock brake system does not operate evenly on the brakes. This is evident on the unusual wear to the rear brakes. On an emergency stop the rear brakes lock up. In the past the dealer said it was because there is no weight in the bed of the truck. I have battled and repaired the brake system since purchasing the truck. Finally everthing mentioned gave out, the only response from the dealer was that the truck has to many miles. Additionally i have filed a complaint with the state of california automotive consumer affairs for the concerns, false and misleading statements, writings by the dealer. The vehicle is somewhat ok on dry pavement, but loss of control on wet pavement. I did contact chevrolet assistance in writing. They acknowledged my response, but declined to discuss the defects with the transmission and brake system.

When driving the truck and slowing down to come to a stop there is a clunking noise coming from the rear end of the vehicle. I currently own a 1997 silverado ext cab fleet side.i've had my brakes serviced numerous times and it continues to pull to the left when i'm braking.also it's very hesitant in picking up speed when passing even with major tune-ups at chevy dealerships only to be serviced.i'm constantly purchasing front tires for my truck, with front end alignments being done often with the purchase of these tires.

At about 48000 miles i started experiencing a hard shift between second and third gear. It is very intermittent. It didn't matter if it was a long drive or short . In the last two weeks it has happened about 3 times. Whenever it happens all i need to do is pull over, turn the engine off for a few seconds, turn it on again and it's gone till the next time. Sometimes the check engine light is on sometimes it's off, does not seem to have any connection to the frequency of the problem occuring. I do not drive my truck hard. When i took it to the dealer they read the computer code and told me the the transmission was leaking internally and woud cost about $1500 to re-build it. At first i thought it was just bad luck until yesterday. I ran into a reggie williams who has the same year and model truck, same engine and transmission and the exact same problem down to the milage when it started happening, he will also be sending in a form. Sincemeeting reggie i have become very suspicious. I've had other chevy trucks and they last a long time without problem, and those i have had are minor. I contacted the chevy customer support people and they know nothing aboutwhat myself and reggie are experiencing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Shifts hard and makes a loud sound and jerks the veh.i talked to many transmission shops.and they say that it is very common with the 97 models it cost around $300.00 dollars to fix.something to do with shifting tube that has to be drilled out because of fluid pressure.this is also true with every veh with the same transmission. The driver side seat back doesn't latch into place.while traveling on the highway. The dealership is aware of the problem.ts

Started from stop and the back of the driver seat flipped backwards.i was holding on the steering wheel and as i fell back my foot came off the gas pedal and the bottom of the seat slid forward.i was able to get up in time to hit brake and avoid hitting car in front.i did not sustain injury.seat is now broken.back will not stay up and bottom will not lock in place.cannot drive the truck safely.

Brake line rusted into on left rear wheel was repaired, every since this happened brake pedal is very spongy stopping power is not what it used to be or should be. I have two problems with the abs and brake pedal surge on my 1997 silverado ext-cab k-1500 z71.under light braking conditions the brakes momentarily engage followed by short intervals of pressure/loss of pressure until the vehicle stops.i have never lost (at least until this point in time) complete brake pressure.the second problem occurs when the brake surge is not present.in this case, the abs system activates.the brake problems occur everytime the vehicle is driven (dry and wet conditions).i have had the truck serviced twice in the past month, and my dealer cannot locate the problem.their recommendation is to start replacing brake component by component until it is solved ($$$).their comment to me is that the rear brake system (that's the area that my dealer is focusing on) is a poor design by gm.

The issue that has just caused the 800,000 vehicle recall for gm, the issue with the anti-lock brakes, is on vehicles older than the 1999. Defective/ excessive wear of rotors/pads/drums, and shoes. Vehicle has been experienceing problem with constent replacement of brake parts within 10-15,0000 miles of wear . Four rotors were replaced, along with being turned over more then twice each, before replacment.also, six sets of pads/ four drums and four sets of shoes. Were replaced. These problems were caused by defective brake systemparts..consumer requesting nhtsa to look into this matter.

The rear brake line (steel) on my 1997 chevrolet silverado fractured while driving on the roadway resulting in loss of brake fluid and diminished braking ability. The brake line, which was located on the driver's side frame rail alongside the fuel tank, was replaced at a chevrolet dealership and is now in my possession. I was informed that there were two (2) instances recently at the same dealer where the same brake line on 1997 chevrolet pickups failed due to rust. I noted that my failed brake line appeared to have been rusted in the area of the failure.

When driving at any speed the steering wheel gets loose. If i'm on a road with a curve and i have pressure on the steering wheel to the right let's say or left the steering wheel would suddenly loosen up and quickly turn in the direction of the pressure i'm applying.as if opening a jar.it gets that loose.i almost hit a couple of parked cars because of this.the only reason we found out about what the problem was is we overheard a chevy owner showing someone the part he had to change.this was after we had the front end done to no avail.this guy had thousands of dollars worth of front end work done at three different chevy dealers to no avail.our part cost $50 and the labor was $100. I've talked to tahoe owners and rode in their vehicles and they all have the same problem as i did.we had to tell them what the fix was.pretty lame seeing the dealers don't even know. If chevy would at least tell their mechanics if they won't recall.by the way the part is a evo sensor and it raps around the steering column inside the vehicle right above the brake pedal.we would have changed it ourselves but you have to fool with the airbag, so we paid someone to do it.also, this problem occurred hundreds of times before we fixed it.there wasn't just one incident date as you made me fill out on your form. Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle pulls to the right intermittently. The pulling occurs suddenly and last for only a second. The contact had the vehicle inspected for the problem by an independent repair shop in 2000. The repair shop was unable able to determine the cause of the pulling. Power steering erratic, switches from firm to super loose without notice. Most frequently at around 35 mph in gentle sweeping curve, causing quick pull in direction of turn. You gotta be alert.

In january 2004 the news reported a recall on chevrolet cars with the exact probblem i have been having since 2000.the power steering will over-assist causing the steering wheel to jerk and hence the vehicle to suddenly steer right or left.it feels like the steering has a mind of its own.this will happen when on a curve or when driving in a straight line.this problem is unpredictable and has caused some near misses and scary moments, particularly when driving on slippery snow covered streets.the failure occurs frequently and lasts for a day or a week at a time then goes away for an undeterminable period.before i purchased this vehicle i had the same problem while test driving other 1997 pickups.since there is currently a recall for this problem on chevrolet cars i feel it should be extended to the c/k, silverado pickups as well.it is only a matter of time before an accident will occur.

I think that this is something that has occurred in many cases and should be recalled. I know of 4 gm trucks within 1997-1998 range that have had the same problem. This problem is very dangerous! at this time nothing has been done to fix the problem and i hope that an accident is not caused because of it.dyas,i have a "97 silverado ext cab 2wd 1500 with a 350 vortex. Dyas has done recall work for me in the past (wipers). I have another problem that will come and go every few weeks this has been going on now for about two years. It has to do with the steering.difficult to explain, but i will do my best. It will seem to surge in turning power while turning in either direction, causing you to have to steer in the opposite direction while in a curve to adjust course. It can be very nerve-racking for me and for someone that is unaware of the problem i can see where it could easily lead to an accident. Vehicle has intermitten power assist steering boost and causes the driver to loose control temperarily

The steering wheel position sensor (swp, mounted on the steering column above the brake pedal)sends an input to the power steering control module (pscm) which in turn then controls power steering pump fluid flow based on vehicle speed and steering wheel position.this electrical steering control system is causing a very serious intermittant steering problem only during a right hand turn. This has twice almost caused an accident as the natural reaction to this failure (which manifests itself as a loss of steering control) is to jerk the steering wheel further to the right to regain steering control. In both near accident situations there was a car on my right side which i came close to hitting. The problem is worse the faster you go and at low speed not much of a concern but at highway speed it is serious. This malfunction occurs at all speeds. Dealer, which has been courteous and helpfull, tells me they have had two trucks in the last two weeks in for the same trouble (swp sensor) and a co-worker also has the same trouble, so this is a common failure affecting other gm vehicles including suburban, tahoe, yukon and sierra.i have not had it repaired at this time but plan to replace the swp sensor myself quite soon as the dealer says my warranty expired at 36,000 miles. Estimated dealer repair cost is 160.00. I feel this is a serious safety concern and is the first time in some 30 years of driving i have encountered a malfunction of this type, when it happens at freeway speed it gets your attention very fast! and has the potential to cause roll over as well should the driver jerk on the wheel to hard to correct it. I feel chevrolet is aware of this trouble and should do something to fix this regardless of warranty coverage as law suites as a result of an accident/s will cost them much much more.

I am willing to pay for allignment not for knock outs to be removed. Ithink that should have been done at the factory.

Steering was known to lock up several times when truck was owned for less then six months. Was in shop for steering six times.four wheel drive then went out. Immediately followed by the transmission. No reverse and only had 1st and 2nd. Repairs have been extremely costly. My dream is now a nightmare. The steering could be fatal to any driver i just got lucky and wasn't driving fast when it locked up.

I am glad to discover that i am not crazy, and that someone else has reported this problem. Shortly after purchasing this truck, the "gap" in steering developed, and after carrying back to dealer several times, part # 26064468 was replaced on 3/12/98, 38158 miles(had reported prior to 36,000 mile warranty running out). This stopped the problem for some time, and now it again is doing this same thing. I have been told part is very expensive, and have not paid to have fixed, not knowing how long it will last.

Several times during long sweeping turns the power steering suddenly became more effective and a quick correction was needed to remain in my lane. As it was, the truck becomes slightly unbalanced due to the quick changes and this could be a real problem .

Ever since i bought this truck it has been nothing but a problem. From tires ,electric mirrors ,electric windows,clanking/banging drive shaft noise and other little quirks. The only thing that i feel that will last (longer than my payments) is the motor. The dealer of this auto wasn't much better; "they" just said that it was agood thing that i purchased the extended warranty!!!

I have two gm trucks one a 1997 chevrolet silverado and one a 1997 gmc sierra k-2500 this will be the third replacment of this steering part, it is a danger becuse when you turn the vehicle over steers like you just hit ice. Itsa similar feeling to hiting the brakes and the wheel being jerked out of your hand. This would be very hazardest on ice covered roads. Both trucks have only about 42k mi. And have had this problem since about 15k mi. I have replaced three now. The dealers say it is a very common park to replace.

So i take it to the chevrolet mechanic he said the compressor was shot and it would cost about $700 to fix it. One evening i went to crank my truck and it wouldn't do anything but click well guess what it was the starter not cheap another $60. One day i was driving down the road the cop stops me and tells me that i have no brake lights on the right side luckily he warned me but a new harness cost like $50.also my power sterring pump that has went out twice in less than a year costing about $80 each time.the only thing i have to say is that this may be the last chevy that i ever own and that is saying a lot because i myself has owned four my family three that is seven if i can add, so that could be alot of vehicles that could go to another make all together. The cables for the rear liftgate broke on two occasions.this truck was not included in the recall replacement of the liftgate cables.the consumer was cleaning the pickup and put the tailgate down and the consumer noticed that the cable had a bulge.the cable had rusted through and only the rubber was holding it together. *sc

Problem #1: the fuel pump relay doesn't seem to disengage after first starting the engine and it heats up.this causes rough operating of the engine.further investigation shows that the maxi fuse to the lighting system heats up also, but does not fail. Another area that is affected is the mini fuse to the courtesy lamps.it heats up, but does not fail.the last area to be affected is the evaporative emission canister vacuum switch.it acts as if the wheels are out of balance around 50mph.i have taken this vehicle in to the dealership on a number of occasions and they either can't find anything wrong or try and tell me that the fuel injectors are at fault.they put injector cleaner in the fuel tank on two occasions, which made it run worse.i asked to have the injectors replaced while it was still under warranty and they said they had to follow procedure bulletin #00-06-04-003 before taking that step.the problem still existed, but they haven't offered to replace fuel injectors.my thinking is that the problem is really the ignition switch.can you please advise me of any other similar complaints and how it was resolved?probelm #2:while driving straight highway at about 55 mph steering feels loose and wants shift lanes on it's own.on sweeping turns it turns to the right on it's own.i had the front end alligned and a new set of tires, but the problem still exists.any advise?

In early may 2000, the left front tire blew out going 65mph on the highway. I was able to keep control of the vehicle and pull into the breakdown lane to replace it. The tire was a firestone steeltex at tire which was original equipment on my chen ck1500 with approx 60,000 miles. There is still adequate tread on the tires. It looks like a sidewall blowout. When making a sharp left turn, the right front tire rubs against the frame and the sway bar, which eats up the tire.dealer stated that the problem was normal and there is no remedy for the problem. Manufacturer states the same.

L.rear tire failed after driving 35 miles. @ 65-70 mph.vehicle was parked prior to failure.tire ruptured in the center tof the tread, causing an approximate 12" circumferencial tear.all tires were replaced the same day.tire dealer remarked that all tires removed from vehicle were experienccing tread separation.( dot number: tire size: 275/75r15 )

Approximately in 2006, with only 30,000 miles,i noticed antifreeze pooling under my 1097 silverado pickup.i took my vehicle to an auto repair shop and was told that it needed a new radiator.the radiator was replaced.approximately one month later the same problem.the radiator was again leaking.the radiator was replaced three times until the owner of the repair shop stated that he would no longer replace the radiator and explained that the 1997 silverado pickup was known for a condition called.electrolysis. It was suggested that i remove the battery cable after each time i drove the vehicle.i started to removing the positive battery cable and within 3 weeks the same problem.i then contacted rudolph chevrolet dealership in el paso, texas. They refused to tackle the problem and referred me to emmitt radiator shop, also in el paso, texas.they advised that they would charge $80.00 per hour with a minimum of 10 to 12 hours with no guarantee.they did suggest that i remove both positive and negative battery cables.this is where the problem with the exploding battery comes to light.when i would try to remove the battery cables after each trip, even to the movies or out to dinner, the battery would be so hot that it would burn my hands.i also kept replacing the batteries and finally ask a saleswoman at auto zone supply house what was wrong with the batteries and he pointed to the battery and said, "look at the sides of the battery, how it is extending outward it could explode". Again i was told me that they did not have the equipment to fix the problem.this falls into the category of a lemon and general motors knew of this problem or should have known of this problem the1997 silverado pickup and have placed consumers in harms way.

When driving at any speed the steering wheel will go from different lanes, and there is vibration wihtin the steering wheel.glove compartment won't close all the way, and the engine check light won't go off. Also,there is a knocking noise coming from the transmission when shfiting from 3rd to 4th gear vehicle had been into the shop two times, and the dealer can't determine the cause.

The cruise control was set for 50mph and the vehicleaccelerated over 90mph the driver applied the brakes and the gas pedal, but the vehicle would not stop.owner had to literally stand on the brakes, and put the vehicle in park to get it to stop. The wheels were still spinning even with emergency brake on. When car was started back up the wheels were still spinning at a high rate. Dealer had fixed the vehicle, but problem occurred again.

Was driving straiht and the truck took off all by itself...the steering wheel was straight.

Consumer stepped on gas and as he started to pick up speed, the seat flipped backkwards, gave away completely. Consumer slightly injured his shoulder and back.

This vehicle has been a nightmare.the brakes have failed, the steering column has gone out, i had to replace all the tires and get a front end alignment, the alternater went out, and the transmission has never worked correctly.it clanks loudly when shifting gears, doesn't idle correctly, and shuts off.i have had it rebuilt on three separate occasions.on one occasion it even caught on fire.the transmission is back in the shop now. Blower motor failed causing noise.

The passenger pushed the button for the window to roll up and stuck his head out,and without warning, the window closed and caught his head in the window.driver hit the button four times, then it released.the passenger was blue in the face, and had to be revived by cpr, and transported by ambulance to hospital.

Dt: contact states the windshield wipers work intermittently. She took the vehicle to the dealer; they stated this happens because of a faulty sensor. The windshield wipers have progressively became worse. The dealership offered no free remedy.

While traveling on the highway without prior warning the windshield wiper come on and off without prior warning intermittenly.the dealership is aware problem. While driving at night on a rural highway, it began to downpour. I turned my windshield wipers on, and nothing happened. I became frantic and tried to pull over, without even seeing where i was going. Upon internet research, and this website, i am now aware of a recall effecting certain batches of my model. I called gm, however they can not and will not assist me in any way other than telling me that my wiper motor failure is "coincidence" and just happens to fall into the same category of the recall.

My 1997 chevrolet silverado p/u has a problum with the wipers they work some of the time and some of the time they do not work at all. Your web site says there is a recall for this problum (03v15900 your recall #) and when i contacted gm about it i was told by chris lamar that there was and to take to my local chevrolet dealer for repair and then was told was not going to happen . Contacted gm once again and mr. L amar said it did not cover my truck but in the first conversation with him he said that all gm full size p/u were recalled for the 97 model year from start of production to the end of production. When i spoke to his supervisor she said that because the truck was not purchased from a chevrolet dealer that they would not nor ever would repair this truck under any now or future recalls. This is a low mileage truck and i am the secound owner.
