Whiledriving consumer smelled smoke.afterwards,noticed that smoke was coming from the under the hood.another driver extinguished the fire.the manufacturer has yet to be contacted.
There is a leak in the vehicle engine oil cooling lines which dripped onto the exhaust manifold. This condition could cause an engine compartment fire. Mechanic replaced the oil lines.
Consumer is experiencing problems withtransmission and engine.the head gasketsblew up, causing the antifreeze to explode and run onto the engine.while operating the vehicle, the consumer constantly has to pull over on the side of the road to restart thier vehicle in order to continue driving.consumer contacted the manufacturer, and they couldn't find the problem.
The vehicle was warming up when a loud noise occured, smoke came out of the hood, oil was leaking, & the piston rod was lying up under the motor. Dealer replaced the motor at the consumer's expense.*ml

Contacted a chevy mechanic, who said thier was a known problem with the piston rings used in that year engine, as i write this letter my engine is being completely rebuilt, it's costing me approx. 2,800 to have it done.as a life long general motors man, i've never owned anything but a gm prouduct ,i'm curious to here your responce to this problem, i was also told those piston rings were not expected to last more than 40,000m.
The metal mounting bracket of the idle pulley bent and later separated, after being weakened by heat deterioration from a "frozen" shaft.

While driving and pulling a trailer the vehicle stalled, as the consumer pulled over and noticed the vehicle was on fire in the engine compartment, possible engine failure, there was extensive damage to the front half of the vehicle, no injuries to passengers (ohio traffic crash report).nlm

Vehiclestalled on two occasions.it taken to dealer, and hadignition module replaced. Later on, problem reoccurred.dealerwas unable to duplicate the problem. Feel free to provide any further information .
Loosened fan belt slapped around the front of the engine compartment, tearing loose a wire which created a short circuit at the top of the left fender where a solenoid and two circuit breakers to charge dual batteries and a trailer connection component were mounted. The electrical heat build-up welded the hood release cable to the fender, preventing the opening of the hood.

I looked up my vehicle per the vin# and a outstanding recall exists (gm recall# n930018). The recall #n930018 - automatic transmission fluid containment. The recall remains incomplete and when i called the dealership and the service manager at the chevrolet garage told me it shows them that the, quote "bullentin not available"). They can not do anything until chevrolet tells them what to do to repair it. The fuild leaking from the transmission line connections could hit the exhaust pipe and cause a fire. Why has chevrolet not been required to take care of this issue and will they. Please advise. While traveling about 70mph transmission shifted out of gear. Went from overdrive to neutral. Had to pull over & shifted into park. Vehicle then shifted into 2nd gear on its own. Happened intermittently. Mechanic found speed sensor circuit had to be reset. Problem still exists.

My family was involved in a frontal collision in april of 97.we filed a suit with gm and lost because of the comparative law in tn. However, during the law suit we were informed that nhtsa does not or did not require a crash worthiness test on seat back strength on drivers side if loaded during a crash.i am reporting to you that there is a problem with this and we feel that some kind of tests need to be required.during the trial we met several people that complained to nhtsa and to gm about both drivers seatback and passenger seatbacks coming forward in a frontal collision.these silverado extended cab trucks need to be tested or the seats need to be removed and supplemented with the bucket seats that gm subed in during the middle of production.gm was aware of the problem and did comply with the motor vehicle safety standers.i believe that the standers must be revised.the american consumer spends 20,000-$30,000.00 on vehicles and the should feel safe.the extended cab siverado pick-up is a sharp looking vehicle and it keeps value so it is appealing to consumers as it appealed to me. There are several hundreds of vehicles out there between 1987-1992 that have this seatback locking mechanism.please look into this before anyone else gets hurt.mr
Passager's side seatback broke, causing a safety problem for the consumer to sit properly in the seat.

Ongoing problem with moisture getting into the wheels, and causing wheels to lock up when brakes are applied. After traveling a 1/4of a mile or more, wheels would stop locking up. Dealer notified.

The defective braking system malfunctioned, causing the defective calipers to heatup andtherotors to warp and caused more wear and tear of the brake pads.had to replace pads 6 times. Dlr cannot determine problem.
Consumer heard a loud noise from passenger front of vehicle when braking. Consumer took the wheel off to inspect brakes, and found the rotor had rusted and separated from the hub.mr jg

Factory paint peeling.gm service number 18002221020 says there is not a recall for the paint and never was.
Paint popping off, dealer said it was past the deadline to get it done free. I called president of general moters afterwards he said the same thing. I just heard about this service today on clark howard show & decided to give this a try. Thank you sidney t bridgers
Windshield wipers work erratically. Sometimes they quit in middle of operation, sometimes they won't run, and sometimes they run real fast and cannot be shut off.dealer was notified about the problem.problem has not been corrected.
The windshield wipers did not work properly.while the consumer was driving in the rain, the windshield wipers stopped for about 3-4 minutes then started again.the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the consumer was told the circuit board malfunctioned. *nlm.

Windshield wiper frequently turn off while in use, won't come on at all and sometimes won't turn off. Dangerous when driving in rain/snow. Why are 1992 trucks not covered like 1994 and up? have seen many complaints dating back to 1990. .
While driving in the rain & would have the windshield wipers on, they would stop working for no reason. Has to stop vehicle & get out & hit the motor under the hood to get the wipers to work again. Had the wiper motor replaced twice & still problem exists. The warranty ran out on the third replacement.

When i went to get a state inspection on my truck windshield wiper motor would not engage and the attendant told me these 1992 trucks were well known for the wiper motor not to work, he suggested when it dod not work to hit the wiper motor with a blunt instrument and it would operate.on 10-28-00 we were caught in a rainstorm and the wipers would not come on so we proceeded to hit the wiper motor with a crowbar to make it come on, it worked.i was very grateful that i could pull over to the shoulder of the road to do this manuever.i would hate to be in the hammer lane and not be able to have wipers available to me.the attendant that gave me this info said there is a short in the motor that came from the factory like this. I wanted someone to be aware of this problem, and i figured the dealership would say it was my cost not their's. I would appreciate you looking into this matter and replying as to if i'm the only one expierencing this problem.i paid $20,000 for this truck and this is my only complaint i have about the truck. While driving in rainy weather front windshield wipers failed intermittently.nhtsa recall 03v159000 was issued.dealership would not repairthis vehicle free of charge because the vin was not included.
