2006 chevy silverado 1/2 ton 4x4problem with heater fan motor. I have had the heater fan stop and start the last 2 years, sometimes come on sometimes not. It does not work at all at this time. I contacted chevy customer service before and asked if the problem was in their records. No, the vehicle is out of warranty, 37,000 miles, i tried to talk to a manager at customer service 5 times today ( jan-23-2010 ) and waste put on hold forever. The last time jefferson #3297, would not even forward me to a supervisor. Problem, fan motor not working. This is the best part. I took the front cover off the dash, covered with old dirt under the cover. Fan switch looks ok, called for prices,at dealership $23.26 but they recommend i check the resistor ( because that's usually the problem ). Took apart the bottom of dash on passengers side as told to by service dept. Guess what, fried wires, and after calling again, replacement part for the fried plug is only $42.36 but does include butt connectors for replacement. New resistor $62.94my concern is no heat for defrosting plus potential fire under dash. Wires and plug were fried and fuse never did blow.

2006 chevrolet silverado 1500 with 5.3l v8 makes ticking noise when cold. Exhaust smell in passenger cabin. Noise decreases as engine hits normal operating temperature. After a service call to repair. The mechanic stated that the forward most and rear most exhaust manifold bolts were broken off inside the engine block on the driver side of the engine, this allows exhaust gas to escape when cold and accounts for exhaust smell in the cabin. Per the mechanic this is very common and should be a recall item.

My wife and i were traveling a remote area of colorado when we had a tire go flat.ok, i'll just get the spare tire and replace it.easy right?no!this chevrolet spare tire secondary release would not release no matter what i did.i worked on it for hours and several other drivers stopped to help.there is no way anyone could ever release this tire.my wife is a type 1 diabetic and here we are stranded in the middle of no where for 6 hours and she has no food.this could have ended very badly.all because of this horrific poor design.now after some research i found out nearly every chevy truck has the same problem.why has there been no recall on this?we made it back to our home 10 hours and $450 later.the spare tire is still stuck even after the local garage worked on it also saying this is a common problem.this is a safety issue that should be addressed.
