I have a 2002 silverado 3500 8.1 liter and the truck will just turn off with no notice while at highway speeds and also in traffic started at 60,000 miles gm will not take care of the problom also while driving the light for what gear you are in will go out and the truck will go in neutral or stop shifting all together.

The contact replaced the fuel filter and had the fuel system checked, but none of the repairs corrected the failure. The contact found nhtsa campaign id number: 01v521000 (engine and engine cooling), dealing with the crankshaft position sensor for the 2001 model year and indicated that the 2002 model year had the identical failure.the failure mileage was 34,000 and the current mileage was 35,000. Updated 5/24/11 the consumer stated he replaced the crankshaft position sensor at his expense. Updated 06/06/11

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet silverado 3500. The contact stated when at speeds of at least 60 mph sitting idle at a traffic stop, the vehicle would stall without warning. When the failure would occur, the vehicle would lose power steering and braking power as he would coast to the side of the roadway. The contact would be able to restart the vehicle and on occasion, it would take several attempts. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure and the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer filed a claim for the contact but would not provide any immediate assistance. Loss of control due to an unknown jiggle/bounce, out of balance condition.consumer felt dealership lacked technical abilities to diagnose problem.to date vehicle had 14 different new tires on the rear axle. Vehicle had been serviced 10 times.the tire pressure was adjusted, the front and rear suspension checked.rear sway bar was unhooked. Tires were balanced. However problem still existed.there was also poor fuel mileage and an exhaust odor.due to safety issues consumer is reluctant to drive vehicle.

Dt: the contact owns 2002 chevrolet dump truck. When he first bought it the brakes were bad.he took it back to the dealer,and they put new rotors on the front. He was still having problems with the brakes, and he took it back, and they said the brakes were fine. He took it to midas, and the back rotors were shot. They put new brakes and rotors on the back. Also, the fuel gauge sensor was defective.they replaced the sensor. The rear end was bad. They rebuilt the rear end. Then the exhaust systemmalfunctioned,and they put new manifolds on it.

While driving the consumer noticed that the vehicle was leaking fuel.the fuel caused poor visibility to motorist driving behind his vehicle.the dealership determined that the fuel injection needed to be replaced.the vehicle is now on it's fourth repair. The fuel leak could cause to pushed past the piston rings into the crankcase, and a hairline crack in the fuel rail also caused fuel into the crankcase. Also, the leak of fuel and oil has caused check engine light to turn on.general motors won't replace fuel injector or fuel rail until it has failed.*la

My truck has the new "duramax" engine in it. And it has had the fuel injectors go out 4 times. I feel like i live at the chevrolet dealership at times. The bad thing about this engine is when the motor has a problem it shuts down. And if your on a freeway your going to be ran over. It shuts down anywhere at anytime and you cannot start it.

Flywheel rattles and vibrates. This is second occurrence at 100,000 miles and was replaced by dealer the first time at 50,000 miles.

When positioning my truck to hook up my 5th wheel camper i lost my brakes.there was no warning of any kind and i wasn't sure until i got out and saw the puddle .even after moving the truck an losing more fluid there was still no warning.i hate to think if had hooked up and been down the highway when corroded metal lines blew out!

Brake line failure. Coming to stoplight, brakes went out causing me to run the light almost causing major accident. This happened in feb 2013. Had brake line repaired.in june 2013 same thing happened again / different brake line.need to replace all brake lines.

Brake failed coming into home's driveway which resulted in crash with minor damage. Inspection showed that the rear brake lines were completely rusted through.

While stopping; brake pedal went to the floor and was barely able to stop vehicle. If i had been diving @ highway speed i would not have been able to stop and would have been in a bad accident.after getting out of vehicle, found brake fluid leaking on ground under vehicle that was coming from above left frame member just to rear of firewall @ location were brake lines all come together. There was a line of brake fluid on pavement the entire distance that i had been trying to stop. Brake lines appeared to be rusted thru also observed that fuel lines badly rusted also.i have since found out that this is an ongoing problem with chevrolet trucks and that gm has made a kit to repair problem.this is serious design flaw that gm should issue a recall and fix @ their expense.there should be an immediate safety recall to address the problem before someone get seriously injured or killed.

The steel brake lines had ruptured on both hydraulic circuits due to the steel lines rusting out.the consumer replaced all of the steel lines, as some of the rust was hidden from view within plastic retainers.

The vehicle had several mechanical problems to include the emergency brake, transmission and 4-wheel drive.the consumers vehicle was parked on a hill and the emergencybrake failed causing the truck to roll off the hill.the vehicle sustained 15000.00dollars worth of damage.consumer contactedthe dealer and contacted chevrolet but to no avail because they will not take responsibilityfor the damages.the mechanics at chevrolet stated that the emergency brake is defective but nomechanical defects.the consumers vehicle is undrivable.*tc

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet c3500. The contact was driving approximatley 25 mph when the brakes were applied and the pedal went to the floorboard without the vehicle stopping. The contact was able to coast to the side of the road without a crash. The contact checked the master cylinder and found that the brake fluid was depleted and he could see brake fluid leaking from under the vehicle. The failure was caused by a rupture of one of the master cylinder brake lines. The vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was 41,500.

Anti-lock braking system consistently engages when at slow-speed stopping (5-8 mph). Problem started at the 40,000 mile mark. Dealer informed that there is a recall on the issue but my vin does not qualify.

Husband performed oil change on truck.truck is driven infrequently, only used for towing my horse trailer, so oil is only changed about once a year, and truck is garage kept.when underneath truck, husband noticed that all brake lines feeding into the abs unit are severely corroded and could fail at any time.based on condition of brake lines, husband (a mechanic) feels abs unit is probably full of rust as well.entire braking system may be compromised and full of rust.truck will not be safe to drive until brake lines are replaced, and potentially entire braking system is overhauled.called dealership, they refused to do anything because the truck is out of warranty.we have contacted chevrolet directly and are awaiting a return phone call.my husband has 30 and 40 year old cars at home that have cleaner original brake lines than our 10 year old truck does.

Dt*:the contact stated while applying brake pressure at 10 mph, the antilock brakes activated under normal conditions and there was an increased stopping distance.the vehicle was inspected by a dealer who determined the wheel speed sensors were corrosive and needed to be replaced.the vehicle was exposed to excessive roads salts during the winter months.there was a nhtsa recall, # 05v379000, regarding the antilock brakes.the vehicle was not included in the recall due to the vin.the manufacturer was alerted.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 7 mph on normal road conditions, there was no braking action when trying to stop.no warning lights were illuminated to alert the driver.the vehicle was taken to the dealership who indicated the antilock brake system (abs) had a recall # 05v379000 regarding service brakes, hydraulic:antilock, for those vehicles due to a speed sensor failure.all vehicles operated in salt belt states may be affected.the manufacturer was contacted, and indicated the vehicle was not included in the recall due to the vin, and the company was not responsible for the repair cost.the speed sensor, which was the affected component of the abs, was manufactured in the same plant for all general motors vehicles.the contact expressed concern because a copy of the complaint taken back in august was never received.

Under normal braking just before stopping the abs activates.

Under normal braking conditions the anti lock braking system will activate at low speed, around 7-10 miles per hour. Contacted local dealer and they told me it was typically the wheel speed sensor that causes this problem. There was a recall issued by gm but my truck did not fall in this recall due to the vin number. Wheel speed sensors were replaced to fix this issue.

On our 2002 chevrolet c3500 light truck i noticed a deterioration in brake performance over time. We pulled the rear wheels at 37,000 miles and found that the rear brake calipers have not been engaging the brake pads with the rear rotors. The rear rotors have severely corroded and now the corrosion is tearing the pads apart. While loading a atv into the back of my 2002 chevrolet silverado the cables on both sides of the tailgate broke sending me and the atv over backwards, luckily there was no damage to me or the atv. The tailgate was damaged , it is being repaired by the dealer!

Dt: while in a parking lot consumer'svehicle accelerated to avoid another car at a low speed when the left rear front spring eye of the rear suspension broke off, causing the vehicle to strike a pillar. This occurred when the rear end of the vehicle lost control, and turned sideways, striking the pillar due to the loss of the spring.the consumer had the vehicle towed to a body shop.the consumer made the determination about this issue.the truck is at the body shop now.it has not been to a dealer.no repairs or corrections at this time.this was the first issue with the rear suspension.there was damage only to the vehicle, no police report was taken.

Camper mirrors don't stick out far enough to see the road behind the camper the camper is a 10.5ft. Lance camper. You can not back or drive safely with these mirrors.dt

Factory installed side view mirrors will only allow driver to see the front of the fender.consumer not able to pass other vehicles safely, fender isblocking drivers view. Mirrors do not extend out far enough.the mirrors on vehicle are not adequate to allow safe passing and there is an inability to see vehicles on the side.*jg

Windshield wiper intermittent switch failure (2nd time since bought truck new in 2002). When switch to intermittent, wipers come on and stay on.
