We have purchased a chevy 3500hd dump truck. We have known this truck for a few years and the brake lights have been stuck on and no signalsfor two years. We were told about the recall for the multi-function switch for other 2000 truck models, i.e. The 2000 blazer, because of this situation. We feel that our truck should be included in the recall because it has the same problems as the other trucks made by chevy in the same year and suspect it is the same part. We have been told that the part is $400 and $250 to replace in labor. We don't feel that we should have to go through the cost and then get reimbursed for the cost when it is finally recalled. In the process of finding out what the problem was, hundreds of dollars have been spent on useless "fixes" because there is no recall for this particular truck and no one thought about that particular switch being bad until we were talking to a blazer owner of the same year that told us about the recall on his truck. We investigated a little more and there are more than the 2000 blazer with this part being recalled.

During operation of vehicle, power braking and steering is lost. Vehicle fails to stop or steer easily and therefore will not stop in safe distance. Occurs usually at slow speeds but increases stopping distance and requires extreme strength to turn. May happen several times during short trip. Vehicle has hydraulic assist (steering pump) brake system. Definitely unsafe and appears canada has already acted on.
Antilock brakes always activate when braking at slow speeds, was told by chevy dealer there is a recall but not on my vehicle.
The vehicle was weighed with a medium sized vehicle in tow and the weight was 12140, as per gm the trucks max gvw rating is 11,000, the vehicle was being used overweight of specs which caused premature brake wear, the vehicle was sold to the consumer with the understanding that the vehicle would be used as a tow truck, the consumer believes that gm is selling trucks with wrecker provisions but are too light to be tow trucks or they are selling trucks with defective brake systems, on one occasion the vehicle brake pedal went to the floor while the driver was braking and failed causing the truck to rear end another vehicle.nlm
