The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 2500 sd.the contact stated that the driver was traveling approximated 65 mph when an incoming vehicle crashed into the contact's vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. The driver and the passenger both sustained minor injuries. The ambulance was called and transported the passenger and the driver to the emergency room for treatment. The police were notified of the crash and a police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The dealer was notified of the air bag failure and stated that the air bags sensors were sensitive and were too weak to deploy. The dealer offered no additional assistance. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure and current mileage was not available.

I have had so many problems with this truck, here are some. Alternator, air bag, brakes, abs, steering box, water pump, blower switch, speedometer, horn. When the blower switch started smoking my grandson tried to jump out of the truck while it was moving. My dash is always lit with some type of problem.

We were traveling down interstate 10 in mobile, al.it was a foggy night and the the road was damp.the truck spun sideways and regained traction heading head on into a concrete barrier.it hit the solid concrete barrier head on at 55 miles per hour.the bumper and frame of the truck was crushed.the concrete barrier was not broken.the airbags on the truck did not deploy.both the driver and the passenger in the front seats hit their heads on the dash board and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.an airbag deployment should have prevented these hospitalizations.this case is very cut and dry.the truck did not miss any sensors.due to the fact the airbag didn't deploy onstar was not called.

Service airbag warning on vehicle.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 2500. When the vehicle was started, the service air bag warning indicator illuminated. The contact drove the vehicle to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the front end sensor failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 55,347.

While driving at approx 50 mph, another vehicle pulled out in front of me.i applied my brakes, but hit the other vehicle.the airbags did not deploy as they should have.the seat belt stopped my forward progression, but i do not know why the air bags did not deploy.

I was traveling at 50 mph into town.the vehicle in front of me had stopped and was making a left turn.i did not see the left blinker right away.when i stepped on my brakes, my left brake line blew and i lost my brakes and rear ended the car.my speed at impact was around 40 to 45 mph.the airbags in the truck did not go off.i sustained whiplash in my neck and left shoulder from the impact to the vehicle in front of me.

2005 chevrolet silverado 2500.consumer writes in regards to vehicle airbag failure during accident.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 2500. While driving at approximately 50 mph, the air bag light illuminated and stayed on. The vehicle had not been taken to an authorized dealership for diagnosis at the time of the complaint. The contact called the manufacturer who advised him that there were no related recalls and the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The failure mileage was 34,455. The current mileage was 34,469.

Lost control of vehicle went off the road into ditch totaling vehicle, air bag never deployed causing me to hit steering wheel with head.luckily i was not seriously injured ( two black eyes )just would like to know why the air bag didn't go off.

Electrical/instrument cluster/sdm-first reported service air bag light on at 65,000 mile's scanned system found fault in sdm and wiring given estimate of $825.00 for repairs, at 84,000 whole instrument panel/speedometer/radio went on/off repeatedly while driving. Scanned system found fault in wiring and sdm,i have had no air bags/speedometer/instruments for 18 months. Very unsafe in mi.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 2500. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph, the speedometer displayed an erroneous reading of 10 mph. The contact continued driving at the same speed and the speedometer began to display a reading of 65 mph. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and the contact was informed that the entire instrument cluster would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 91,000.

We have a 2005 chevy silverado and the speedometer stopped working 3 months ago, mileage approx. 60,000 miles.we contacted dealer and was told we would have to pay to have it fixed since there was no recall.now i get on line and read lots of complaints.needless to say the way the economy is we don't have the money ourselves to pay for the repair, so now we drive it and hope we are going speed limit or under.i think that gm should repair this problem since there are alot of people having the same problem.what kind of company will ask us to help them with bailouts but won't fix the problems their vehicles have?

At about 76,000 miles my 2005 chevy silverado started having speedometer issues. Then all of a sudden it was working fine for about another 7,000 miles. And now over 80,000 miles it is stuck at 120 mph. Gm has recalled 2003 & 2004 models with this same known issue and has used the same clusters for 2005, but does not have a recall.

Instrument cluster failure (speedometer, oil pressure, etc.)

Blower for heat/air works intermittently.dealer said resistor has probably gone bad.i removed the resistor which was all rusted from water (resistor is located in the air supply chamber inside the passenger compartment) and replaced.problem resurfaced 48 hours later.returned to dealer who advised there is a service bulletin on this, it's a common problem because the wire harness/connector goes bad due to overheating.gm has a part specific to repair the wire harness connector.do not have old resistor, wire harness still attached.i have not replaced the wire harness yet as i am trying to get gm to replace.gm is well aware of this design defect and electrical hazard.

Receive an intermittent "service brake system" with abs & park brake dash light illuminated, and the aural alarm sounds.when this happens the abs system is made inoperable. The error does not create a dtc code and is not stored on the vehicle computer.an independent shop and the local chevrolet dealer could not identify the defective part be.each replaced the speed sensor and abs computer (2 weeks apart).the independent shop was able to identify the 200 milli-second electrical fault but could not find the source.the independent shop updated the computer firmware.since the error could not be recorded the dealer could not do anything else and gave up.the problem continues.if it is raining or it is warm spring day the error happens every couple of miles.it appears to be tied to the throttle and does not react to any other vehicle condition.it reacts at constant throttle when the foot is removed or reduced pressure on the throttle pedal.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado k2500. The contact stated that the instrument cluster malfunctioned. The manufacturer sent a notice informing the contact of a special policy adjustment for the instrument cluster. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who refused to honor the policy as the vin was not included. The failure mileage was 75,000.

2005 chevy silverado 2500 hd duramax, speedometer stuck on 23 mph. Known issue with faulty part, the instrument cluster stepper motor. Gm will not cover replacement. Faulty parts used from 2003-2007. Class action suit only covered certain vin numbers and no recall was done. Safety issue/concern. Was informed by dealership that if we had brought it in 8 months earlier it would have been repaired at no cost. Never received notification of potential for this to happen. There should have been a recall...

Step motor on speedometer reading20 mph high. Intermittent problem. Chevrolet is aware but only covers vehicles with less than 80000 miles very dangerous.

Air conditioning blower resistor and harness burned wires at 14,000 miles and was replaced by authorized chevy mechanic.replaced harness and resistor caught fire a 65,000 miles.

The wiring harness for the heater blower motor resistor melted and this has happened twice now causes smoke and you loose the heater function. Not sure if it could get hot engough to start a fire.

2005 silverado 2500 hd speedometer malfunction.speedometer registers very high speeds (i.e. 80 mph), or no speed at all (i.e. 0 mph) regardless of what speed is actually being driven.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 2500.the contact used the lighter installed in the vehicle to light a cigarette.minutes later, he noticed blue smoke emanating from the instrument control cluster.upon further inspection, he noticed that the wiring in the fuse box melted.the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the wiring harness and fuse box needed to be replaced at the cost of over $2,500.the vehicle has not been repaired.he is in the process of notifying the manufacturer.the failure and current mileages were 64,000.

Heater harness caught fire in my 2005 chevy silverado.

Speedometer is failing to maintain accurate speed.it goes all over the scale and then back to zero.

Speedometer gives false readings. This problem is so common with this model year (2005) chevy/gmc trucks people are selling repair components on ebay, yahoo and other spots on line.instruction are shared online also.some 2005s are being repaired by the manufacture depending on the vin other not, yet they all have the same parts that are known to be bad. 2003 & 2004s have their warranty extended to 7 yrs. 70,000 mile to cover this problem.so far we're lucky no one has been hurt or killed.

Speedometer worked intermittently for past year and now has quit completely. It registers 120+. Gm is replacing speedometers with this problem up to 70-80k miles i have 92,000 and have been told it is not covered, after searching the internet it seems that there is a class action lawsuit and multiple incidents of 2003-2005 gm vehicles with this problem.

The truck was parked in driveway. Driven 20 minutes prior for 10 miles. Erupted into fla message under hood. Fire police unable to determine cause to badly damaged. Total loss.

Since having the heater / ac fan speed control module replaced under a recall last fall, this summer i have had several situations where the a/c unit will turn to heat or, the a/c will go to defrost, defrost / feet, without moving the selector controls.

Heater controll module failurewires heat up and melt the sheilding and the connector ends.

Early speedometer failure on 2005 chevy silverado.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 2500hd. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 mph over uneven pavement the steering column began to rattle. In addition, the odometer failed to operate. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the instrument cluster was replaced. The steering column shaft was placed on order. The vehicle will be repaired when the part becomes available. In 2006, the steering column shaft was replaced and the failure recently recurred.the manufacturer was not notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 8,000.

After entering vehicle which had been parked for 2 weeks a heavy brunt electrical fire order was present. At the same time a heavy smoke like haze was present.upon through exam the fire wall blanket in the engine compartment was found melted in a roundish pattern.one month latter there is still a burning odor in the cab.

Speedometer will only go up and not down. It sticks upon shutdown, and will go down if i restartthe vehicle 20 times before i leave.

I was pulling out of aside street on to a busy highway had to merge quickly the truck would not accelerate engine was skipping check engine light comes on had to pull over all most got hit by traffic due to the lack of power and not able acceleratei take the truck to dealer they have it 3 days working on wiring harness shorts to injector 6caused by improper wiring harness routing i had to inform them of gm tsb on this they fix it and said not covered under engine warranty costs $370 this truck was in may 09 for skip and p1238 open circuit injector 6 and problem was not foundcost $100 the tsb had been out since 07 this is very dangerous when crossing busy highways and loss of power occurs.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. The vehicle was parked when the contact noticed that the heater/ air conditioner fan motor wires were severely melted. The contact planned to take the vehicle for diagnostic testing and to be repaired. The contact had concerns of a potential fire. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000. The vin was unavailable.

This vehicle is a duramax 2500 (diesel), the first thing that happened was the engine hours reset itself to zero the dealer said it needed a new instrument cluster then the gear shift indicator quit working so you have to count each time you move it to know what gear you are in i feel this presents a safety hazard and should be fixed by the manufacturer. Thank you .

The blower motor (for heat & air conditioning) stopped working and was replaced on our 2005 chevy silverado 2500. With in a year it stopped working again and upon inspection we along with raymond chevrolet in antioch, illinois noticed that the blower motor was burned out and the resister harness was burnt. As if it was on fire.thankfully no further damage was done besides theburning of the motor, wires and harness.this was replaced again on 10-30-08 and now on 06-23-09 again the motor has burnt out again.the dealership service department had no explanation why this has happened 3 times and being aware of this we make sure nothing is close to the dash preventing a spread of fire in case it were to happen again, which it has.

This morning on my way to work the speedometer cluster failed. This is a known problem and chevy will more likely to refuse to pay fix it.

The speedometer just went to 80 one day and stuck there sometimes it fixes it self then its breaks again and is right back to 80 miles and up.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. The contact stated that after purchasing the vehicle he noticed something burning from under the dashboard. The vehicle was taken apart and the contact found that there was burned and melted wires. The contact replaced the wiring harness and the blower motor. The failure recurred a few months later. The dealer was contacted and they advised him of which components that he needed to replace. The contact later received notification a manufacturer's silent recall and the contact was offered a partial reimbursement from the manufacturer.the failure mileage was approximately 50,000. The vin was unavailable.

Speedometer failure and rpm indicator failure on cluster panel. Cause x25.168 stepper motors are failing.for 2005 model year the recall only covered vehicles manufactured in 2004 up to jan 2005.my vehicle was manufactured in march 2005.clearly the same defective cluster assembly was still being used in the manufacturing process. Vehicle was purchased new in july 2005.gm recall needs to be expanded as there are numerous complaints for this same issue beyond the current recall parameters.

I purchased my 2005 chevrolet 2500hd duramax in may of 2015. A week later i was pulled over for speeding 10 over. My truck showed i was driving 55 mph. I now have a speeding ticket $114. I contacted gm about the issue and they said my vin# was not qualified for the recall and i would be paying out of pocket ($535 including labor). The part alone is $350. Now at the end of the day i will owe $649 because of gm's mistake. I love gm's products, however they do not stand up to there mistakes which will make me think again before buying one.

Dt*: the contact stated after parking the vehicle in the carport for two hours, it caught on fire without warning.the fire department was called and the fire was extinguished.there was property damage to the house and the vehicle was totaled.a report was taken with the fire department.the dealer was notified.

While driving the vehicle in town on a city street at approximately 35 mph, with the ac on and the blower in the high position, the blower started turning off intermittently. A smell of burning plastic was noted and the blower completely shut down. The compressor for the ac continued to cycle on and off. The other lower settings for the blower did not work either. It was found that the plug that goes to the resistor pack next to the blower had a badly-burned contact for the ground wire going to the blower. The plastic around the plug was melted and burned and the electrical connector was melted off. A serious fire could have potentially started under the dash due to the intense heat and arcing of the electrical contacts putting me and my family in danger. Doing research on the nhtsa website, this seems to be a common problem with 2005 chevrolet silverado trucks. There should be a recall on this, but i do not find one.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado. While driving the contact noticed the gauges on the instrument panel were not providing an accurate reading. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician stated the instrument cluster had to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 92,000.

Speedometer does not work properly.

Speedometer does not show the right speed which the vehicle is traveling.at almost standstill speeds is shows 15 mph.at higher speeds the speedometer shows speeds that are much higher than those being driven by the vehicle.i cannot trust this gauge any longer.will be contacting gm to request a fix. Car has only 25,000 miles.

On january 23, 2009, the #7 injector harness shorted and had to be replaced.on march 21, 2009, the ses light came on and the truck sounded different running, but did not lose power.diagnostics showed problems with the fuel injector module.on march 22, 2009, the ses light came on and the truck started running rough and lost engine power (just like it did on january 23).the truck had to be towed to the chevrolet dealership again.this time the #2 fuel injector harness had shorted and had to be replaced.with both incidents, the fuel injector harnesses were replaced with a new harness that has a 90 degree plug and longer wires.this is not covered by warranty and costs $400+ to replace each one.within 2 months and 2500 miles both the #2 and #7 fuel injector harnesses have shorted and had to be replaced.

When i was driving down interstate the truck (2005 2500 hd diesel) suddenly started running rough and lost engine power.the ses light came on.i pulled to the shoulder and turned the truck off.when i restarted the truck the ses light stayed on, but the truck would run.it went about 2 more miles and did the same thing again.it had to be towed to the chevrolet dealership.the #7 injector harness had shorted and had to be replaced.

Driver side seat heater turns on by itself. This is a dangerous situation because the driver is distracted while driving and must look down to find the off switch. Often, the seat heat comes back on again almost right away.. This situation seemed to occur in approx 2003 to 2007 models. Internet forums show that gm has service bulletins that instruct technicians to do a 'firmware fix". The only way for me to stop this condition was to locate and disconnect a small green connector under the seat that disables the seat heater. Changing the control module didn't remedy the situation. It happens while driving and is intermittent. Seems like gm has remedied the situation in newer models. Seems to me they should be recalling older models to incorporate some sort of "fix". The distraction of locating and turning off the heater is as bad as "driving while texting". I always have to pull over to get it shut off. Often, when i resume driving, the heater will come back on. Eventually it stops turning itself on.

Speedometer on 2005 duramax chevrolet hd pickup is not working.it is jumping up and down, and is not going past 50 mph.

I noticed this past weekend that my speedometer started to malfunction....along with the oil gauge, & battery gauge. They all were pegged out & not reading correctly. The tachometer seems to work still, but it is hesitant at times too. The speedometer had a issue a couple months ago, but it seemed to disappear until this past weekend. I would think there would be some type of recall on this after reading all the issues people have had in the past. Yes, this truck is 8 years old, but when i bought itonly had 22,000 miles. I have only had it about 10 months & only put 9,500 miles on it.

Speedometer faultyincorrect at timesto fast and to slow other times, one time it showed 120+ while cars were passing me on the freeway 0 or slower at 65 (staying with traffic?)never knew the speed i was going had have the instrument panel replaced at a cost over $600.00 at 43000 mileson truck 05 chevy silverado 2500 hd duramax.

The speedometer is very erratic sometimes showing a faster speed than traveled sometimes a slower speed or no speed at all the odometer has since quit working and displays odometer error where the mileage should read. And now the engine water temp gauge is dead pointing straight down where there are no numbers and never moves. Dealer where i bought the truck new says they have repaired quite a few of these and will cost around $350. To send it out to be repaired by a qualified repair place. I think g m should stand behind such a problem and recall these trucks to fix them.

Bad speedometer. Sticks.

Speedometer, tachometer and fuel gage show faulty indications, often not showing anything at all.

2005 chevy 2500hd diesel - the number 2 and number 7 injector wire harness is not mounted properly.it rubs through and puts the truck into what they call "limp mode".it only allows the motor to got up to 2000 rpm.this happened to me twice with my current truck.the second time i was running down interstate i-80 @ 70mph on cruise control.it automatically began downshifting and slowing down.i was lucky a semi wasn't bearing down on me.go to diesel place or any other blog on chevy durmax diesels and do a search for no. 2 & 7 wire harness for the second generation diesel (2004.5-2005) - they must have fixed it after that.

In my 2005 chevrolet silverado the speedometer needle is starting to stick.

2005 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd - speedometer stuck/inop.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 2500.while driving approximately 45 mph the contact noticed that the speedometer displayed an inaccurate reading regardless of the speedratebeing driven.the vehicle has not been repaired for the malfunction at this time.the contact had concerns of the safety risk involved. The failure mileage was unknown.

Speedometer failure--speedometer would read incorrectly and now has completely failed.nothing to date has been done to correct the problem.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 2500. While driving approximately 55 mph, the contact was pulled over for speeding. The contact stated that the gauge registered at 55; however, the police stated that he was clocked at 65 mph. The contact then used the gps to track the speed of the vehicle and it was off by 10 mph. The failure recurred on several occasions. The dealer was made aware of the failure and stated that the instrument cluster was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 190,000.

Speedometer does not show correct speed.

Speedometer failureit is never accurate, i can not trust what it says it even goes to 130 mph while parked.

Speedometer stopped working at about 57,000 miles

Speedometer will read very high speeds when traveling slowly. E.g. 110 mph traveling 30 mph. Happens in cold, cold weather.

Shortly after truck passed 36,000, the speedometer stopped showing the correct speed. It will fluctuate showing between 90 and 120 mph. When searching for information in the internet, i found this is actually a common problem with the silverado trucks.

My speedometer has failed.2005 chevrolet 2500hd 4x4.sometimes says i'm doing 50 at a stop sign.it might read 25 when i'm doing 35 (like the ticket i just got).chevy says i need a new ipc at $1100 with parts and labor.i read on the internet that there are hundreds and hundreds of late model chevy truck owners with the same problem.someone is going to get killed because of this or does that need to happen before a recall is issued..?the speedometer is an integral part of safe driving and reading the number of failures shows that his is not a random occurrence.do an internet search of "erratic speedometer on chevrolet" and you will find hundreds and hundreds.got a spare $1100 to fix an engineering problem on your vehicle..?

I own a 2005 chevrolet silverado 3/4 ton truck. The speedometer is stuck in the 6 o'clock position, and won't move, the odometer doesn't work, and now the fuel guage quit working.i can't tell how much fuel i have by using the guage, and without an odometer or tripometer i can't even use math to figure it out.plus i have no idea how fast i'm going.i hear this isn't an isolated problem, why hasn't there been a recall on this?

Speedometer faulty incorrect at times.when towing my 5th wheel camper.from time to time the speedometer will stop at 0, 20, or 40 mph while i am reaching speeds of 65 mph verified by my gps.this seems to be intermittent.i am at 27,000 miles on my truck, 05 chevy silverado 2500 hd duramax.

2005 chevy silverado 2500 hd. At approx. 50,000 miles, the speedometer started acting up. Stuck and registered incorrect speed. I was able to "reset" it. Now at 78,000 miles, the speedometer will not stay correct.

At 26,000 miles the speedometer on my 2005 chevy silverado started to slowly down. Is has happened 5x in the past 6 trips. It is very dangerous because twice i was pulling a travel trailer on mountain roads where speed is a big safety issue. Too much speed and off a cliff we go.a research on the internet shows this is ad has been a major chevy issue and they need to recall it and pay people back who have had to have it fixed.

I have a 2005 chevy silverado with 46k miles on it and the speedometer failed.it intermittently starts at a random speed and sometimes sticks at max speed.i took to dealership and they said it would cost me around $500 to repair.i believe there is a history of stepper motor failures on this item for the last few years but they haven't recalled any of the 2005 or later models.

I was driving down the road in my 2005 chevy silverado 2500 hd when i noted the speedometer reading >90 mph (i was not going that fast...towing a 5th wheel camper).the speedometer continued to malfunction and has not returned to correct operation since.there is little doubt this is a safety issue and apparently is a consistent problem with many 2002-2005 chevy vehicles.this vehicle has only 36000 miles on it and has not been abused.issue is not yet repaired as it happened only yesterday.

The speedometer sticks, works intermittently. Sometimes reads slower than actual speed, sometimes reads faster than actual speed, sometimes doesn't work at all.sometimes will simply "freeze" and not respond to changes in vehicle speed.

Speedometer went crazy and clunking in steering.

Speedometer quit going back to zero.it is now stuck in the "pegged" position.

In october 2007 i purchased a used 2005 chevy silverado 2500 hd pickup from a used car dealer with 38,515 miles on it.after the purchase i discovered the vehicle speedometer sticks and does not work properly.now the instrument panel gauges also appear to not be showing the proper operating temperatures for the transmission.i have received no help to correct the problem other than to tell me to take it to a dealer and pay $600 to have it repaired.i have put less than 2000 miles on the truck and paid over $37000 for the truck.i don't have any money left to fix it and i think it is a safety risk to my family there must be something that can be done to help since it appears there are many complaints on the internet over this problem.

I own a 2005 chevy silverado. The speedometer fluctuates between 50 and 70 miles an hour. It also sticks when slowing down from 10 mph to 0 mph. Talked to service rep at local dealer, he was aware of the this problem already and told me gm "might" do something about the faulty speedometers. I have heard the warranty on this was extended to 7 year 70,000 miles for '03 and '04 models. How can gm put a mileage restriction on the part that measures the mileage. If the speedometer is not working properly, the odometer should not be reading accurately either. What if the odometer says your vehicle has 75000 miles and the vehicle really has 67000. Guess what? your warranty period would have been exceeded in gm's eyes, even though the actual mileage is still within the warranty limits. A speedometer is a part that should never fail during the life of a vehicle. Gm should recall all defective speedometers no matter what mileage the vehicle has...

Theinstrument panel is defective.i contacted gm when it first happened and they said they knew they had a problem and would notify me when they had a recall.but i was never notified of a recall or them replacing the parts.when i started checking they said that i had missed the recall.now they will not fix it.i had to pay to have it put on a computer at an authorized dealer and they said it was a factory defect but gm will not fix my truck..the dealer said that it would cost approximately $350.00 to repair it.gm has offered me a $2000.00 discount on a new truck, but why would i want to purchase something that the manufacture will not stand behind.

2005 chevy 2500 hd speedometer failure @44,000 mile. The speedometer went to 120 mph at 55 mph, sitting still it would still read 60 mph.dash cluster had to be replaced under my extended warranty.

My speedometer is not working. It is frozen at 30 mph.

I own a 2005 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd truck.i have only 25,000 miles onthis car.the speedometer has suddenly become erratic and does not display the correct speed of the vehicle.when i am traveling at very low speed (close to standing still) it displays 10 to 15 mph.at higher speeds it displays speeds that are much greater than the speed that the vehicle is really traveling at.

Speedometer not working. Not knowing how fast your going i feel is a safety hazzad.

Gauges not working in truck.

The speedometer is stuck at 49 mph and will not move up or down. G.m. Has had a problem with the speedometers for a number of years in the mid 2000's and has replaced the defective speedometer cluster panels on many vehicles under warranty. The cut-off is mileage and not the year of the vehicle. 85,000 is the cut-off and my 2005 silverado 2500 is at 37,076 december 13, 2011. This is a second vehicle and my wife has a 2005 escaladethat had the same issue with the speedometer and the local cadillac dealer replaced it under warranty since it was below the threshold of 85,000 miles at the time. I talked to chris at g.m. At (866) 790-5700 x 40683 and she gave me a tracking number of 71-1011262550. Chris called me back after contact with the local chevrolet dealership (champion chevrolet) and said that she would not warranty the speedometer. The service advisor said that he would replace the cluster but that i would have to pay $175.00 labor to install it. I bought the vehicle new in 2005 and would have bought something else if i had known of the defects in this vehicle. I have had to replace a third c.d. Radio which i paid for the labor to install which i feel is the manufacturers problem also. I am unable to tell how fast i am going with this speedometer.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I have a 2005 chevrolet silverado hd2500 pickup with 32660 miles on it.the speedometer suddenly went wild while i was driving.i had just exited a 75 mile an hour freeway and immediately had to reduce to 25 miles an hour.the speedometer registered all over the chart.i am learning it is the instrument cluster and gm has not issued a recall.it will cost $500 to get repaired.i am not driving it now.i have also learned this is a common complaint.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 2500. While driving approximately 55 mph, the contact noticed the speedometer was registering an inaccurate reading. The failure occurred sporadically. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and authorized dealer whom both stated the speedometer would need to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. Currently the speedometer was inoperable. The manufacturer was notified and informed that the vehicle exceeded the service warranty. The approximate failure mileage was 58,000. Updated 9/25/12 the dealer agreed to pay for the labor, if the consumer paid for the parts. Updated 10/04/12

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 2500.the contact stated that the speedometer failed over a year ago.while driving 65 mph, the speedometer remained at zero.he received a recall letter from the manufacturer, but it was only valid for 65,000 miles.the vehicle's mileage exceeded the requirement.the dealer stated that the vehicle needed a new instrument cluster at the cost of $400.the vehicle had not been repaired.the recall number was unknown.the current mileage was 145,000 and failure mileage was 117,000.

2005 chevy silveraldo 2500hd - nothing leading up to failure - turned ignition on and speedometer jummepd to 100 mph and continues to stay there when i accelerate the speedometer will raise as if i were accerlerating from zero.

Driving down the road and my speedometer is pinned at 120mph. My truck sits in the drive way and it says i am doing 120mph along with my tach is stuck on 5.

Speedometer not reading correctly on chevrolet.

Speedometer errattic, sticks at 120mph at approximately 20 mph, will not go to zero.

Short in gauge clusterlack of odometer readingpending new gauge cluster install, value of $450.00there was a recall for 2003 and 2004 models, not for 2005? same problem!

The speedometer gives false readings.for example, when traveling at approx. 30mph, it will read 95mph.at other times, it will "bottom out" going past 120mph, when actual speed is nowhere near that.when stopped at a light, or even with engine turned off, it will not return to the zero mark.all other gauges in the cluster appear to perform normally.

Speedometer reads wrong sometimes shows over 100 mph when going 50 mph.

2005 chevy silverado 2500hd (duramax diesel). The speedometer suddenly stopped showing an accurate reading while driving approximately 10 mph. It now shows 55 mph while at a complete stop and pegs over 120 mph when driving on the interstate. This is a known issue with the 2004 model year, but i'm not seeing any info yet for 2005 (which is the model i have). This should be a recall from gm to fix this - rather than their tricky little "special" replacement rules that limit the fix to 70,000 miles. This is a huge safety issue - not being able to tell how fast i am traveling at any given time/not being able to trust my instrument panel readings.

The speedometer on my 2005 chevy 2500hd 4x4 gave out at about 27000 miles two months ago. We were pulling a trailer on mountain roads at the time. Knowing your speed in the mountains is important and this could have been a deadly problem.gm has known about the problem and i understand did a "special policy" on 2003 and 2004 vehicles. There needs to be a recall and the defective parts fixed before someone is killed.please help us out and do not let this faulty equipment game continue just to make or save gm money at buyers expense and safety.

During a routine morning commute, i noticed the check engine light had illuminated.immediately following the malfunction, i noticed a severe decrease in engine power and the engine started to vibrate and mis-fire heavily. I was in heavy traffic and had to pull off of the road to avoid a potential accident situation.i then shut the truck off, and re-started the vehicle to possibly re-set the light.the engine started and seemed to run smoothly again, but the light stayed illuminated.it was 7am, so i decided to very slowly drive to the dealership where i had purchased the truck.the technician performed a diagnosis, and found a hard code of p2146 insulate ficm.i was then told that the main fuel injector system wiring harness had chaffed on a factory installed bracket and that it would need to be replaced.i was then told that they did not have the parts in stock, and that i would have to wait for one week to have the parts replaced.in the meantime, the technician stated that he had "insulated" the harness, and that the light was out.he stated that i should be able to drive the truck without any issues, but if the check engine light comes on again and i also receive a "low power" message on the annunciator panel in the dashboard, that i must park the truck and get a rental vehicle until the parts arrive and repairs can be made.the technician stated that this would cause four of the eight cylinders to shut down and cause a lean engine fuel condition which could result in engine failure.as of yet, parts to be replaced within one weeks time.

2005 chevy 2500 diesel truck has a fuel injector problem caused by a short in the electrical wiring due to fraying of the wire bundle. *njthe consumer stated the vehicle developed a loud knock in the engine during warm-up and while driving. The knock was intermittent.the consumer stated if fraying on the outside of the wire bundle harness was evident it could be re-wrapped and re-routed. It currently is attached to a very sharp post on the engine manifold with a nylon pull tie. As the motor runs, the wire rubs against a sharp edge of the post and frays which can cause a short and make the fuel injector misfire.

Engine powering down....forest to re-start engine

The contact owned a 2005 chevrolet silverado 2500. When the air conditioner was activated, grey smoke emerged through the vents and flames suddenly appeared under the hood of the vehicle. The fire department was called and extinguished the fire, but the cause could not be determined. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot where it was deemed destroyed. There were no injuries sustained. The dealer and manufacturer were not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 150,000.

The truck was parked in driveway. Driven 20 minutes prior for 10 miles. Erupted into fla message under hood. Fire police unable to determine cause to badly damaged. Total loss.

The engine started making a strange ticking noise.the dealer repaired/replaced the passenger side exhaust manifold/bolts under warranty.the driver side broke several months later out of warranty.dealer repaired.both sides broke again.you can smell exhaust gas in the vehicle when sitting in traffic.

Right side exhaust manifolds bolts rusted off causing exhaust gases to escape and causing check engine light to come on.cannot get the vehicle state inspected with the check engine light on. Mechanic says it needs to be repaired to get vehicle inspected.the others look like they may be failing also. This is a big out of pocket expense since it is no longer under warranty.

I took my 2005 chevrolet silverado pick up in for a exhaust leak. The manifold bolts rotted away. 3 bolts holding right and left exhaust manifolds in place.vary very unsafe, one good bump in the road and it would drop. Vehicles with less than 30,000 miles have the same problem. Gm knows about the problem and should have contacted it's customers. Vary dangerous. Fire, accident or exhaust fumes. Not good at all!!

The engine oil cooler lines and the transmission cooler lines leak at the crimp where the rubber hose and metal lines connect.after doing research online about this i have discovered it is a very common problem.some people have replaced these lines multiple times only to have them leak a short while later.for those of us whose vehicles are out of warranty this can be very costly.i would also think that transmission fluid and motor oil contacting hot surfaces like an exhaust pose a fire hazard.at the very least the leaking oil is an environmental hazard.i have purchased oil cooler lines and am replacing them tomorrow but i am having trouble finding transmission lines.

Stopped do to heavy traffic and started smelling exhaust in cab.pulled off on next exist opened hood and drivers side of engine was smoking.coughing and lung discomfort.found some shade to let truck cool.noticed black color on rear of exhaust manifold, looked closer and missing bolt in same area of manifold.looking online lots of complaints of same problem but no recalls.should be emissions recall and safety recall in my case.

The bolts that hold the exhaust manifolds to the cylinder heads are braking off for no reason causing an exhaust leak.

This truck is equipped with the 6.0l vortec v8 engine and has developed an exhaust leak on both sides of the engine at the manifold gaskets! the leak is from the ports where the bolts securing manifold to cylinder head are broken! gm is well aware of this issue, does not want to recall the issue or warranty the repairs. There are thousands of complaints from owners of gm vehicles with v8 engines including the 4.8l, 5.3l, 6.0l engines. This is a problem in many of ways, most importantly that toxic exhaust fumes are emitting from under the hood and can enter the cab of the vehicles! inspection laws require that exhaust fumes exit the vehicle behind the rear wheel! the other problems include the fact that this leak will affect readings taken from the upstream oxygen sensors and can therefore cause check engine lights for catalytic converter deficiencies to system lean conditions. Also having an exhaust leak will fail safety inspections and emissions testing. Gm is violating epa laws by allowing this to go on! this particular vehicle is past due for inspection and emissions as we are a pennsylvania resident and i cannot afford to have this fixed at a dealer!

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 2500. The contact stated that exhaust fumes were emitted from the vehicle in an unusual fashion and entered into the cabin of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the engine manifold was warped because the bolts were corroded. The vehicle was repaired. The failure recurred approximately two years later. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and was repaired a second time for the same failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 87,000.updated 02/14/12*ljthe consumer stated he corrected the problem by using stage 8 bolts and headers. Updated 03/16/12

My 2005 chevrolet silverado 2500hd had broken exhaust manifold bolts. Repaired at 87,000 miles. Went to dealership today because of exhaust leak and was told there are more broken bolts at 136,000.obviously there is a defect. Unsafe/raw exhaust leaking into air and cab.

2005 silverado pick up with 77000 miles pulling empty trailer( work) blows hole in #7 piston no warning, make it to nearest dealer takes them 2 weeks to decide engine ruined but not covered by warranty, they said by there ( general motors) paperwork it looks like i have a power adder( chip) that caused the problem( which i did not have). After obtained there ( tsb) information it states that only if there are multiple pistons damaged then there is a power adder, if only one is damaged it is a bad injector, they refused topay and i could not afford to pay there $16000+ bill to put a new engine so took to independent shop and had another engine put in.

2005 chevy silverado 2500 diesel truck on freeway on 01/25/2010 and the truck immediately lost power while pulling a trailer.very dangerous.consumer never made aware of tech bulletin or problem.tsb #05-06-04-047b injection harass.nhtsa #10017389.the truck has been taken to dealer for other recall notices and dealers never addressed the problem and should have before we were stuck out in the middle of the desert and had to get the vehicle and 5th wheel trailer towed.the consumers should be notified of this problem and chevy dealers should fix problem with the injection harness because when a vehicle loses power on the freeway it is dangerous.

While towing approximately 11,000 pounds, vehicle exhaust gas temperature exceeded 1300 degrees.this has happened several times.dealer, mossy chevrolet stated this is normal.

Exhaust manifold gasket leaking due to exhaust manifold bolts breaking/rusting off on more than one truck, a 2001 chevy 3/4 ton with 6.0 and a 2005 model with a 6.0.

Exhaust manifold bolt head broke off. 1st bolt initially then second bolt next to it broke as well. No work has been done to motor or aftermarket parts added that would affect this part and create failure. Exhaust gas enters the underhood area sometime can be smelled inside cab. The exhaust makes a black plume up side of motor.

I have a 2005 chevrolet silverado with a 6.0 liter engine. The left side and right side exhaust manifold are missing 2 bolts each. I only have 50,000 miles on this vehicle. The cost is unbelievable. This is certainly a matter that gm should take care of.

My 2005 duramax diesel has repeatedly had the right rear brake/tail light go out.i have had the bulb replaced once by dealer, and paid for it. And the rest of the 4 times my husband and i have replaced the bulb as the dealership cost to replace a bulb is 5 x's the cost of the bulb.my duramax currently has the right rear brake/light bulb out.2005 chevrolet, currently has 40, 000 miles.

The entire instrument panel flickers and goes dark randomly i cant see my speed or what gear i am in. On my way to work and attempted to stop at a stop sign break pedal went to the floor. I had zero brakes.upon inspection i found a break line had corroded through and ruptured. The vehicle only has 100 thousand miles. It seems to be a common issue with this model vehicle. This is very dangerous

During a routine morning commute, i noticed the check engine light had illuminated.immediately following the malfunction, i noticed a severe decrease in engine power and the engine started to vibrate and mis-fire heavily. Fuel lines corroded and rusted though and leaking, potential for vehicle to catch fire. Brake lines severe rust and corrosion. Can fail at anytime potentially causing vehicle crash, i have a 1996 chevrolet cavalier with over 200,000 miles and the brake and fuel lines on this car are in better condition than this truck.

Towing trailer on the i90 interstate.sudden loss of power and unable to regain speed on high speed highway.dealer diagnosed as "fuel filter" problem. Has happened on numerous occasionsseems common problem with gm duramax diesels from 2003 to present.the sudden loss of power can be dangerous on high speed highways as speed is cut drastically and speed cannot be regained to make a safe pull over to the side of the road.

Driving 50 mph on road,i stepped onthe accelerator pedal to accelerate and the vehicle engine light came on.however the vehicle would not accelerate it was spitting and sputtering and slowed downfor a while .i pulled over to the side of the road andshutit off.after ten minutes, the vehicle was restarted, and light went out and it ran perfectly.

Fuel lines, sending unit and fuel hoses corrosion causing diesel fuel to leak.

Fuel pump relay keeps going out. I have replace 4 relays in the last 6 months and the dealer had replaced the fuel pump about 6 months ago.

Speedometer, tachometer and fuel gage show faulty indications, often not showing anything at all.

I have a 2005 chevy silverado with a 8.1 liter engine, i was turned down on my warranty because there was rust in the fuel rail. We took fuel samples and there was no water in the fuel tank, nor the fuel lines. So how did the rust get in the fuel rail and injectors. I did notice that the new rail that the gm dealer installed was stainless steel. When i bring it up the dealer nor gm will talk about it. This repair was going to be warranty but instead it cost me $1,145.50 dollars. This was the second time i took it in to the dealer. The people i bought the truck from said they would give me my money back, but now all their offering me is $218.00 i told them to shove it. This truck costs me $41,900.00 dollars! the last thing i want is this warranty company to tell me is no!the warranty cost me another 2,000.00 i can tell it isn't worth the paper it is written on. Please i am on my last knee, please help !

While driving on the highway at 65 mph then to 35 mph service engine soon light illuminated along with a severe reduction in engine power(limp home mode). The cause is the injector connector circuits on cylinders 2 and 7 are not fully supported near the connector and are more susceptible to terminal breakage from engine vibration.

Driving home, injector harness failed on my 2005 chevy duramax. This is a common problem that gm should issue a recall on. I had to limp home at 15 mph, this was after midnight around curvy roads. Lucky i was not crashed into. This is a very dangerous condition that some could really get hurt, and likely already have. Here is a link to morehttp://dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=169625. The steel fuel lines and steel brake lines are corroding and leaking. On october 8th 2015 my truck begain to leak diesel fuel from the rusted fuel lines. While fixing the fuel leak the technician also notices that the brake lines were also starting to rust and will need to be replaces soon before they fail.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado (diesel). The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle suddenly became unresponsive and decelerated. The contact indicated that after restarting the engine, the vehicle would operate normally. The failure was recurring. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the fuel pump was replaced and remedied the defect. The failure mileage was 20,000.

Fuel lines, sending unit and fuel hoses corrosion causing diesel fuel to leak.

October 29,2020 i was traveling down a highway when i noticed traffic was stopped and when i went to apply my brakes the pedal went all the way to the floor and i had nothing not even a light came on to notify my of an issue. I also tried to apply the emergency brake and it snapped and at that point i had to leave the road way to avoid hitting any cars or anyone, and in doing so iwent towards a ditch and ramped a driveway.we have ;looked into the recalls and its the same parts we are having trouble with on this truck and why it caused me to wreck. Hydro boost system, and the emergency brake system.the codes that i pulled from the nhtsa. These all are whats has happened with my vehicle. 04v37600005v16100005v043000if you need any additional info please let me know i have a video i tried to send from the homeowners security camera of the truck ramping his drive but it was too large to upload and i have to get another copy of the police report if you would like that.

Noticed fuel smell after exiting vehicle. Looked under vehicle to see fuel dripping on the ground directly below the fuel cell. Further investigation revealed the fuel lines were severely corroded or rusted to the point of failure. Also noticed the brake lines were also severely rusted. Gm has sacrificed safety in place of cheap parts and materials. This is a major defect and a serious matter that needs to be rectified. Someone will die with the brake and fuel line failures.

The brake lines are all rusted, i have a big leak and gm says the don't sale replacements, i have a 2000 also same issuesboth with in a month..i have had a ton of cars and trucks and i never seen anything like this..i feel i was had..i spent a lot of money fixing the wheel bearings and rotors , 3 times..now the lines..im getting prices like 1200 to fix brake lines and 1400.00 for fuel lines..the truck ingreat shape but the lines are defective.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado k2500hd. The contact stated that there was a leak in the diesel fuel trail pulse damper. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated they would replace the fuel trail pulse damper at a cost to the contact. There were no recalls for the failure. The manufacturer was notified who confirmed that there were no recalls and provided no assistance.the failure mileage was 150,000.

Brake lines rusted out prematurely and burst, causing loss of braking ability. Had to replace every brake line on the entire truck, for they were all extremely rusty. 2 months later my fuel line also sprung a leak due to excessive rust, causing fuel to spill, check engine lights, and hard starting. Both of these issues present major safety concerns, and unfortunately are extremely common with these trucks.

While driving along on a mountain road, the check engine light came on and i suddenly lost power to maintain speed. The truck went into what is commonly called "limp mode", unable to make any more than 10 mph. I discovered that a problem common to this make model year occurred. The wiring harness to the fuel injjector (diesel) shorted to injector #2 and #7. The computer shut down the fuel to that cylinder bank as a result of the short. This is commonly spoken of in internet blogs and gm has a tsb for a repair. It is tsb 05-06-04 047b (i believe). It calls for replacing the wiring harness as it has become worn due to improper engineering and placement. The parts have been updated to prevent this. It costs $576.00 to repair. I believe this should require a recall. What would have happened to me had this occurred on a highway at highway speed. Unable to maintain any speed, ii could have been involved in an accident or cause one.

Parked on boat ramp, in park with e brake on. Boat was off trailer (afloat). I was unhooking and winding up front strap when i noticed truck moving backward into lake. I was able to jump in and stop vehicle by applying service brakes. A tow chain was attached, i put transmission into drive and was safely be pulled out. Vehicle is a total loss. Shift selector and e-brake failures?

Brake lines are rusted and need to be replaced according to dealer.....estimate for the work is $1,800.this seems very premature for a 6 year old heavy duty truck.

The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 91,708.

As i was driving someone pulled out in front of me so close i had to press on the brake pedal pretty firmly as i did the brakes went to the floor, luckily i have a manual transmission i downshifted in time to miss the other car and pull over only to see the intermediate brake line rusted through along the frame rail.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 2500. While driving approximately 41 mph, the shift lever position indicatorilluminated intermittently. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 05v055000 (power train). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 105,000.

The entire brake line system is rusted, as well the drive shafts and u-joints. This truck is well maintained and these rusted parts may cause severe personal damage.

Thank you .

After a stop in the parking lot, with my foot on the brake, shifting from drive to park the vehicle wanted to jump backwards for a second.this has occurred on several occasions.it feels like it wants to go into reverse instead of park.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 2500.while driving 80 mph, the vehicle automatically downshifted to second gear.the contact was unable to shift gears.he took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that there was nothing wrong.the vehicle downshifted again while driving and the dealer repeated that nothing was wrong with the vehicle.another dealer stated that the transmission was burned.in april of 2007, they replaced the transmission at 26,102 miles.after the replacement, the failure recurred accompanied by a severe grinding and slamming noise.the vehicle then shifted into third gear.since the transmission was replaced, the vehiclehas been to the dealer at least ten times.as a result of the transmission failure, the contact accidentally struck a deer.a police report was filed.general motors developed a case file on november 13, 2007.they called the contact the following day and stated that the initial representative working on the case was unavailable.the contact has yet to hear back from general motors.the failure mileage was 20,000 and current mileage was 34,700.

The contacts owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 2500.while driving 25-45 mph on steep downgrades, the transmission shifted into second gear while the gear shift indicator was still in first.the vehicle was towing a trailer at the time of failure.the dealer has not inspected the vehicle.the dealer stated that they would not be able to correct the failure because that is how the vehicle was designed to perform.the current mileage was 19,600 and failure mileage was 19,000.updated 02/01/08.*lj

I parked my pickup truck 2005 chev. 2500 hd on a hill side in order to collect rocks to use in creating flower beds at home.my wife an i had parked the vehicle for about 10-15 minutes. The truck was placed in park with the ignition off.we were standing about 15 ft from the truck when we heard a loud popping metallic sound. The truck immediately began to rolled back and traveled about 20 feet or so before running up and onto a wood log. I have contacted chevrolet and they made a computer check of the vehicle and found nothing wrong.i requested that chevrolet check the transmission and steering column.they declined.my wife and i could have been seriously injured by the failure of the vehicle to stay in the parking gear position (automatic transmission).what can we do to rectify this situation?

Driving 50 mph on road,i stepped onthe accelerator pedal to accelerate and the vehicle engine light came on.however the vehicle would not accelerate it was spitting and sputtering and slowed downfor a while .i pulled over to the side of the road andshutit off.after ten minutes, the vehicle was restarted, and light went out and it ran perfectly.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet k2500 pickup truck. While driving 5 mph the vehicle shifted into neutral gear while it was in drive. He then tried to shift gears and was unable to do so. The engine was revving after he tried to change gears and within a few minutes, he was able to continue driving normally. The dealer was contacted and stated that the warranty expired and made no repairs to the vehicle. The vehicle was repaired by another mechanic at the owners expense. The failure mileage was 52,000 and the current mileage was 54,000. Updated 04/01/10. *lj

1.i bought a used "certified" 2500 hd silverado with 33000 miles on it.i have owned it abut three months.on three separate occasions i have noticed the transmission slip or "hesitate" when accelerating from a stop.the engine will rev but the car does not move.when i let off the gas i can feel it shift suddenly and the car will move.2.i noticed a whining sound in the transmission when it is in gear.chevrolet service department tells me it is common on my truck and there is nothing they can do about it, it is the plenary.the sound is louder and continues throughout the entire driving range.it began at about 35000 miles.the service rep stated they had a service announcement on it, but i have not seen that yet.3.about three weeks after i bought the truck, i noticed a clicking and grinding sound when the brakes were applied lightly.first time in the dealer could not find anything.second time in they found the left rear axle seal leaking and replaced that.the third time in they adjusted the brakes so that it was almost impossible to apply light break pressure.after a couple of days of use the brakes loosened up some and now the clicking and grinding noise is back and it is more noticeable with even a little heavier pressure on the brakes.i will be scheduling a return trip for this and the whining sound in the transmission, but gm seems to take the approach that if it is "functioning" don't repair it.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 2500hd. The contact started the vehicle and shifted the gear selector into the "drive" position; however, the park indicator remained illuminated for ten seconds. In addition, the automatic door locks became inoperative and failed to lock when the gear was placed in "drive". The doors would lock only manually. Also, the rear back up lights would not function. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the tcm transmission module was replaced. The vehicle operated normally after the repair. The failure mileage was approximately 24,416.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 2500 diesel. While driving approximately 35 mph, the contact noticed that the lights on the shifter level were no longer illuminated. The contact also stated that his tail lights and the door locks would no longer function. The contact stated that because of the failure, he was unable to determine what gear he was driving in. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and was repaired. The failure mileage was 21,010 and the current mileage was 21,060. The consumer also stated the back-up lights were not working. Bought 2005- 2500 4x4 chevy. Silverado 4 door truck new from herndons chevy. In orange,va. Several months afteri bought it i started hearing a knock when i stop or take off or accelerate after slowing down. It sounds like it is somewhere in the transmission area. It did not do it all the time and the knock was not real loud. Herndons has checked it several times and says it is a slippage and is normal. It now has gotten much louder. It is non stop now. Everytime you accelerate from a slowed down or stopped position and it can be heard from people standing out away from the truck. I am very frustrated. I am going to take it back to herndons next week but i bought they will say it is anything wrong as before. I have never heard a vehicle sound like this. It is embarrassing to drive. It has approx. 34000 miles on it now,but the problem began a few years back. Herndon should have it documented. Vin# is. Also right after i got the truck i started it up and backed it to my shop cut it off. Started it back up put it in drive and it went backwards. Cut it off-restarted it put it in drive would not move-put it in reverse-would not move. Cut it off-called herndons they came out -i started it back up and it moved like it was suppose too. It did it once after that was a good while longer. But instead of not moving it hesitated for a few minutes before it moved. Herndons checked it but could not find anything wrong. So far it hasn't happened again. I know something is wrong with this truck. The loud knock is not normal for any vehicle. I am afraid that something is going to break loose and i am going to have an accident while driving. Please investigate this problem and see if there has been any other complaints like mine.

When three people are in back seat of truck, person nearest left rear door cannot connect seat belt into the seat belt holder.holder will not stay up---a person's left hand has to hold seat belt over the body, while the right hand tries to insert the clasp.a third hand is needed to keep the seat belt holder raised in order to do this.----only solution is to abandon the seat belt holder.

Was driving on the turnpike when a trucked i was following slowed down, i hit my brakes to slow down and the rear brake line blew causing the break pedal to hit the floor. I was lucky nobody was in the left lane. Had to swerve to avoid a major accident.after having the truck looked at, i'm forced to replace all the brake lines because of rust.after reading countless complaints about rusted chevy brake lines, and almost losing my life. I have decided to file this complaint.. You don't hear of any other manufacturer having this problem. I have an older ford with well over 130k, that's driven much more. And i have had zero problems with the brake lines rusting. It is driven in the same area. Gm needs to be held accountable for using cheap materials just to save some money.

I have a 2005 chevrolet 2500 hd with 57000 miles and the brake lines are rusted into. I was getting ready to hook my trailer up and was backing and hit the brakes and they went to the floor. It was pouring fluid out under the door where the brake line was rusted into.this truck has not seen that much salt to have this happen. I hear that gm does not what to recall because they say it is a maintenance issue i beg to differ. I have a 1971 chevy pickup that has seen years of salt and water and none have ever rusted like this 2005 has. I guess they are waiting to see how many will die before there is a probem.

The entire brake line system is rusted, as well the drive shafts and u-joints. This truck is well maintained and these rusted parts may cause severe personal damage.

Started for the store. Went one block and had to hit the brakes for a red light. The pedal went to the floor with no brake indicator warning. Luckily didn't hit anything. Returned home and then drove it up to my mechanic late at night (no traffic). He diagnosed it as a rusted through brake line which he replaced. But he did indicate that most of the remaining lines are also badly rusted. I've had previous year chevy trucks with many more miles and longer time on the road with no brake failure. This is definitely a safety problem. I live in northern va. Where we don't get a lot of snow and ice , consequently not much salt. I think gm knows about this problem and is trying to stall as long as possible. How many accidents will there have to be before the nhtsa does something. Remember the gov. Bailed gm out.

Driving home down two lane road at 35 mph. Came to curve and slow traffic ahead. Went to apply brakes like normally, they failed. Pedal traveled all the way to floor with little to no stopping effects on vehicle. Vehicle is a 5 spd standard. I was able to down shift and apply park brake to slow vehicle. I was unable to stop completely and had to drive off the road into the road side ditch to avoid a collision with the stopped traffic. Once stopped i got out to check for damage. No cosmetic damage was sustained to the vehicle. I did see brake fluid dripping from under the truck on the driver side. Closer look revealed that the brake line had rust completely in half and bleed the brake system dry. Noticed that the other lines were in similar condition. They all seem to be severely rusted at the point where the brake lines is retained by a green plastic clip on the upper portion of the frame rail. Had vehicle towed home, replaced visible bad lines. Two months later brake section in rear of truck hid by undercoating failed as well. Thankfully was parked when it happened this time. Truck is well maintained and cleaned and waxed seasonally. The under side of this truck is horrible. There in not a place on it that isn't rust. Shouldn't have this from a us made product. I have older vehicles from the 60's that have sat for year and look almost new underneath. Many other people have had the same problems with these vehicles.i just hope that nobody gets hurt or killed because there vehicles rusts out and causes critical safety systems to fail. I also hope that the nhtsa will take the steps necessary to make people aware and help to resolve this issue. Shameful gm owner.

My son borrowed my truck to get a tool box that his wife got him for father's day. I told him to bring the truck back to my house because i wanted to hook a trailer up so he could take a riding mower to his house and use while we were out of town. When he came back i had him back the truck up to the trailer and we hooked it up. When he got on it he pushed the brake to put the transmission in drive, the brake pedal went to the floor. We unhooked the truck and he drove it across the yard to my garage. After looking for and not finding any leaks i checked the fluid reservoir and could not feel any fluid. We went to auto zone and got a bottle of brake fluid dot3 and filled the reservoir up and he looked for a leak while i pushed the brake pedal. He found it leaking from a line above the fuel tank right behind the passenger door on the driver's side. I had the truck towed to a chevrolet dealership and was told the brake lines was rusted and they need replaced along with the two front calipers. Just thankful the line did not bust while he and his wife were not on the interstate nor after we got the trailer hooked up and went to his house which has some very steep hills. Ten working days and $1800.00 later i have my truck back.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 2500. While changing the oil, the contact noticed that the entire frame, upper and lower control arm, brake lines, rear axles, hitch assembling, and rear spare tire carrier assembly were severely corroded. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 15,000.

Hauling my trailer when i depressed brake pedal and pedal went to floor brake line under drivers cab rotted after further inspection all lines on vehicle are rotted and will need to be replaced. Happy it didn't happen at a higher rate of speed. Lucky my 36ft fifth wheel has brakes so i could use my trailer brakes to stop the total unit. If i were on a main street doing regular speed i could have killed someone.

Had to make a sudden stop when a pedestrian walked out in front of the car in front of me. My brake pedal went to the floor and i rear ended the car in front of me.upon on investigation it was found that one of the front brake lines ruptured due to the high pressure from the emergency stop and the rusted brake line. I have owned this truck since new and there have been no recalls or communications that the brake lines will prematurely corrode and fail.brake lines are not a normal serviceable part.apparently, this is typical of this year vehicle from gm.please recall or notify the public because this is a time bomb waiting to kill people.brakes are more important than your emphasis on air bags.the brake lines didn't last as long as the engine, transmission, ball joints, shocks, etc which are all serviceable items and expected to be replaced.please step up to your responsibilities and get the vehicle owners notified and get the vehicles off the road until the brake lines are replaced.my 1941 chevrolet pickup has original brake lines in better condition than my 2005 chevrolet pickup.please recall these vehicles.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 2500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the brake pedal abnormally traveled to the floor board when depressed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnosis where the technician stated that the rear brake line that went over the fuel tank was corroded and would need to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was being repaired. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

I was visiting my parents and i left to go to my friends house down the street for a few minutes then i got back in my truck and started to head to my place. I was approaching the first stop sign in my parents neighborhood and i pressed my brake pedal and it went to the floor while the truck slowly came to a stop. My wife and one year old son were in the truck with me. Thank god it was in a residential area. I turned right around using my parking brake as a way to stop so i could get back to my parents house to see what had happened. When i got there my brake fluid was low and i saw brake fluid dripping in front of the left rear wheel. I looked under the truck and had my father press the brake pedal and found brake fluid shooting out of my brake line that is above the gas tank. I looked online for info about this issue and found that there is/was a investigation about 99-03 gm trucks having this issue and i'm wondering if there had been any other gm trucks the same year as mine that has been experiencing this issue and if so then there should be a recall for it.

Brake lines lost fluid no brakes due to rust through.why at only 40k miles?

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 2500hd. The contact stated whenever he depress the brake it would go all the way to the floorboard. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnose that there was rust on the brake rotors. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified who stated he should take the vehicle back to the dealer for more inspection. The failure mileage was 36,000.

Got into truck to pull out of driveway and stepped on brake pedal.pedal went to the floor, heard a hissing noise and saw fluid dripping down the side of the gas tank.took a closer look where leak was and can see the brake line is all rusted.checked master cylinder and fluid was low.

Front brake line rusted through and ruptured.lost all braking ability.needed to replace all front brake lines.rear brake line rusted through and ruptured on 12/3/13.lost all braking ability.rear brake line replaced.these lines do not stand up to the corrosive elements encountered in the northeast.there are lines that will however.why put personal safety at risk just to save a few bucks?

After starting my truck i had stepped on the brake pedal to shift into drive it held and then went completely to the floor. I then proceeded to shift back to park and investigate, and found one of my brake lines had completely split and a puddle of fluid lay on the ground under the proportional valve. My truck is only 8yrs old and less than 70,000 miles on it. Gm must be using some really poor material in their brake lines.

I own a 2005 chevy silverado 2500.i bought it new and it currently has 37,247 miles on it.the brake lines have severe corrosion.this appears to be a common problem possibly due to inferior parts.

My 2005 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd with 133,606 miles experienced total brake failure april 13,2018 at 9pmeastern standard time. Incident happened in greenville, ohio on gardenwood dr. Heading west. Stopped at a 4 way stop with no indication of any kind of mushy brakes etc. Took off from stop and accelerated to 25mph the posted speed limit. Went approximately 400 feet, when a rabbit darted in front of truck. Hit the brakes with moderate firm pressure, but not extreme and brake pedal went to the floor. Had zero braking force. Dumb founded, i immediately tried to find the parking brake pedal with my left boot in the dark. After 40 yards of coasting and applying the parking break was able to stop the truck. Thank god for the rabbit, cause the road dead ends into state route 118.the brake line failed under drivers side door near frame and runs to the master cylinder assembly. After removing lines, the lines that looked good were brittle in spots that are impossible to visually inspect without removing. Two other lines that didn't fail could be easily snapped in two with almost zero force. Entire brake system other than the steel lines had been replaced in the past 2yrs. Power washed under the truck at a minimum of every 6 months. Sprayed wd 40 on brake lines every 6 months past 4yrs, due to mechanic informing me that the lines could go bad along frame and that they are difficult to replace. Thought i had done a good job at preventing such an incident. Have extensive mechanical skills from experience, hence i'm replacing all the brake lines myself.was a mac tool distributor in the past and raised on a farm. Lucky i had replaced the rear disks and parking brake shoes, because they are less than adequate to stop a full sized truck imo. I'm pissed off this happened. The lines need replaced on all these vehicles, before they fail and hurt or kill innocent people.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 2500. The contact stated that the brake lines were rusted out. The dealer stated that new brake lines needed to be installed on the vehicle. The vehicle was repaired in july of 2014. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 125,000.

As i was driving someone pulled out in front of me so close i had to press on the brake pedal pretty firmly as i did the brakes went to the floor, luckily i have a manual transmission i downshifted in time to miss the other car and pull over only to see the intermediate brake line rusted through along the frame rail.

Making left turn from loop 375 exit ramp to turn left onto montana ave. In el paso tx. I was waiting for light to turn left. Light turned green i proceeded to make left turn and in the turn the steering came really hard to turn i went up on the curb and attempted to stop and the brake pedal went to the floor. There was enough brake to stop. Good thing this did not happen when i approached the intersection or would have been much worse.there was no warning light or chime.i checked fluids and they were all full.when i took it to mission chevrolet and explained what happen they gave me the impression they already knew what was wrong like this is a common issue.today i got a call from them and confirmed that it is the power assist for the brakes and power steering.why if this is a known problem the consumer does not know about it?

Brake warning message and chimes, total failure at destination within four miles.service technician at sullivan's northwest hills reported total brake line replacement front to back was needed.all lines were rusted out.

Another vehicle pulled out in front of me while i was towing my boat. When i hit the brakes the pedal went to the floor; i narrowly avoided a collision. A rusted brake line had ruptured. When replacing the brake line i discovered that all of the brake lines and fuel lines were severely rusted. We contacted gm; they set up an appointment at a local dealership to examine the truck. The dealer agreed that the lines and much of the chassis were rusted but would not do anything about it.when the truck was still under warranty i had complained to the dealer that the undercoating on the frame was falling off, and there was actually rust under the coating. They said this was not covered by the warranty. I have also had to replace all four brake rotors because they were so rusted they were falling apart. The rear rotors went at only 35000 miles.

Total brake failure, brake lines corroded through.

Today at approximately 25mph i came to residential stop sign and the brakes went to the floor without and warning. The vehicle went into the cross road without stopping. I was forced to use emergency brake to get vehicle to fully stop. Upon inspection there was alot of brakes fluid in two spots. From drivers side frame rail and above fuel tank. When you look under the frame, the parts all look very clean and new looking. The only exception was that all the brake lines look heavily rusted. I was lucky it was not at high speeds, but from what mechanics tell me, this is getting extremely common. I believe at least owners should be notified to have them inspected. The dealer tells me all the lines need replaced at approximately$1300

I was traveling between 50 and 55 mph pulling a 7000 pound trailer when a car pulled out of a gas station in front of me.i stepped on the brakes only to have the pedal go to the floor with no braking ability at all. I tried pumping the brakes several times and the brake pedal went to the floor each time with little or no ability to slow the truck and trailer.the driver of the car realized they pulled in front of me and accelerated to avoid a rear-end collision.it took nearly a quarter mile from initial application of brakes to a complete stop by using the mechanical parking/emergency brake.the cause of the failure was the rust-through and subsequent bursting of the steel brake line that runs from the abs valve body to the rear brakes.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 2500. The contact stated that while driving 37 mph, he applied the brakes and the brake pedal abnormally traveled to the floorboard. The vehicle failed to decelerate or stop. The contact began pumping the pedal until the vehicle came to a stop in the middle of an intersection. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis and the contact was informed that four brake lines were suffering from severe rust and corrosion. Additionally, one of the lines had began to leak. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure and current mileage was 67,000.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 2500. The contact stated that while inspecting the brake lines due to brake failure, he found the brake lines were corroded. When the rear bed was removed, he also found that the rear under carriage and the shock mounts were also severely corroded.the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired.the failure and current mileage was 56,000.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 mph, the abs warning indicator remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and an authorized dealer, who both stated that the abs sensor would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.

My truck has been babied, only having less than 45,000 miles. Has never been off blacktop, and keep in garage. While towing my boat my breaks went out, come to find out my break line was rusted into and my master cylinder was also rusted where the break lines connect. I was told by chev dealer that all four break lines and master cylinder would have to be replaced. $1,400.00, this seems impossible for a truck with less than 45,000 miles that was not driven in the rain for the first two years and never been driven on salt treated road. I have another 4 wheel drive truck that i drive in bad weather. This is the only new vehicle i have ever purchased. Very disappointed in break service and chevy wellness to admit there i is a defect with the break system.

While driving home this morning, a car pulled out in front of me from a side street.i hit the brakes and they went to the floor.i had to slam the truck in first gear and pump the brakes like crazy to stop.the brake lines are completely rusted out from front to back.gm refuses to acknowledge there is a problem and told me to have it repaired at my own expense since the warranty had expired. After some research, i find this is a common problem with silverados and neither gm, nor the nhtsa has addressed this.there needs to be a mandated recall.how many people have to become statistics before someone takes action?

I purchased my 2005 chevy silverado 2500 hd in december of 2013. The car had 76000 miles on it at purchase, and has had less than 5000 put on it since then. Upon initial inspection of the brake lines, they were completely rusted through. My question is this: will the 2005 year model trucks be included in the engineering analysis file #ea11001? i checked chevy's website today and found that there are currently no recalls on this model year truck.

2005 chevrolet silverado 2500.consumer writes in regards to brake failure, lines had to replaced due to rust and corrosion.*ld

Brake line corrosion caused a failure. Pedal went to the floor and the truck crashed into the garage door. Brakes are completely non working. Brake lines are completely rusted through.

I have a 2005 silverado 2500hd with 82k miles.i'm the second owner and bought it in 2007.when i got in it a week ago to drive somewhere the brake pedal went to the floor.i checked the brake fluid reservoir and it was completely empty.i had no indication of a problem up to this point.i filled the reservoir but the brakes would not pump up. I looked underneath and saw brake fluid dripping.upon closer inspection i found the entire set of brake lines and fuel lines were rusted to the point of being rotten.i wiped off the lines to find the leak, and found the fuel line was also leaking.at this point the fittings on the abs module cannot be removed without breaking or damaging the module.i haven't estimated the cost, but all the lines, brake and fuel, will need to be replaced as well as the abs module.## vin passed ## chevrolet silverado 2500 hd 2005 ##

Had to stop quickly on a major highway pulling a equipment trailerto getsomething that fell off. While in the process of pulling over to stop on the shoulder my brake pedal went to the floor, my trailer brakes helped to slow to a stop safely on the shoulder of the highway.upon further inspection of the brake lines from the engine compartment along the frame from the angle to the flat part of the frame under the drivers area the lines looked very rusty from the elements from the seasons.

Traveling down a hill when a driver in front of me decided to make a left turn rather abruptly, causing me to have to make a panic stop.i pressed the brake and the vehicle started to slow, and then nothing.(brake line burst-ed, which i had been told look rusted during last inspection.)i blew the horn and swerved to left lane and went around that person and then down the left side of the road avoiding several people coming the other direction.i manage to eventually get the truck stopped by constantly pumping the break after having my life flash in front of my eyes from narrowly avoiding multiple accidents.

Near total brake failure.rust scale on rotors (all four wheels) eating into brake pads reducing brake pad to 20% of arrear.brake pads do not clean rust from rotor.this is an insidious failure of braking system causing loss of brake efficiency.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 2500. While the contact was driving approximately 30 mph the brakes were engaged and a sudden loss of power steering occurred causing the vehicle to swerve off of the road. Extreme pressure was applied to the brake pedal in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer. The technician refused to inspect the vehicle and stated that they were not responsible for any under carriage corrosion regardless of the severity. The manager agreed to replace the corroded power steering tank and repair the brakes. The manufacturer was notified and stated that they do not cover any corrosion under the service warranty due to the environment. The manufacturer also stated that the warranty would not apply to corrosion failures where the residence was close to a beach with exposure of salt in the air. The failure mileage was 23,000. 2005 c/k 2500 chevy anti-lock brake system failure due to corrosion of sensors, identical to recall of 2002 vehicles loss of brakes at slow speed braking. Dealer service replaces at over $200 and state that they are replacing 4-5 units a week and is a common defective design.

I have had so many problems with this truck, here are some. Alternator, air bag, brakes, abs, steering box, water pump, blower switch, speedometer, horn. When the blower switch started smoking my grandson tried to jump out of the truck while it was moving. My dash is always lit with some type of problem.

Braking at low speeds affected.when coming to a stop pedal sinks and vehicle rolls forward.i find this as a safety recall for 2001,2002 but not for my 2005 2500hd.having work done at a repair facility.rusted abs sensors and rusted wheel hubs.replacement cost about $700. This is a known defect since 2001that should have been corrected before 2005.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 2500hd. The contact stated that the anti lock braking system engaged at low speeds, causing the vehicle to lose decelerate. The failure occurred while decelerating and before depressing the brake pedal, nearly causing a crash. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was notified and informed the contact that there were no recalls addressing the failure. They offered no further assistance. The failure mileage was 90,000.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 2500.the contact stated that the brake pads were eating up the rotor on his front brakes.the failure causes uneven wear and tear.he heard squealing noises and the pads were not touching the rotor to stop the vehicle properly.the contact will take the vehicle to the dealer soon for a diagnostic.the failure mileage was 53,000.

Brake lines are rusted and need to be replaced according to dealer.....estimate for the work is $1,800.this seems very premature for a 6 year old heavy duty truck.

Power steering hose ruptured and lost brakes and steering. Had replaced at a independent shop and was told by g.m. Was not one of the affected vehicles.

When bringing the vehicle to a complete stop the abs activates on all surfaces and during regular braking. It showed a code of right abs sensor and rear speed sensor.,however after replacement of right sensor all codes showed clear. But the problem still persist. You think the truck stops then it leaps forward about two feet.not safe!!

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 2500. The contact was driving approximately 55 mph, approaching a stop signal. The brake pedal was engaged with full body pressure before the vehicle came to a complete stop. The failure occurred during brake application. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.

On two different occasions with my 2005 chevrolet silverado 2500 i experienced power steering and brake loss after starting the engine and beginning to drive.. Steering was very hard and i had to "stand" on the brake pedal to stop the vehicle.after a few minutes it all began to work again but i was without power steering and brakes for several minutes.i took it to my dealer and they replaced the brake unit andreplaced a hose on the power steering pump.parts are probably not available as i left them at the dealer. Now i am getting a slight surge when brakes are applied and this is one of the events that happened before thefailure causing me to fear that failure might happen again.

When trying to turn at an intersection, the brakes on my 2500hd with duramax diesel applied without driver using the pedal. This happened at every turn while trying to get to the repair shop. The shop replaced the factory sealed hydraulic booster assembly. After 1500 miles the problem has not recurred. We have contacted general motors, but since there was no recall, there is nothing they will do. This same condition happened at 30000 miles, but cleared up and no dealer could find a defect code and could not duplicate the problem.hopefully, this does not happen again at high speed.

Moving my chevy 2500 silverado(year 2005) in my driveway,i applied my brakes the pedal was very soft and went to the floor,i applied the emergencybrake stopped the truck, got out to look what happened. There was a large mark of brake fluid on the driveway, the brake line had failed,it had corrosion all over it. Had it towed to dealership, they said the brake line had failed, and gm, was not going to repair it.

All brake lines under drivers door severely rusted.the line going to the rear ruptured above the fuel tank causing failure of brake system.

Brake lines rusted through. 2005 silverado 2500hd. Six and a half years old 147036 miles mostly highway driving. I always washed the truck and the frame etc. After driving it on salted roads so they should not have rusted. The problem is it appears these are bare steel lines with no apparent coating on them to keep them from rusting. As everyone knows any bare steel will rust extensively when not coated with a paint or some form of corrosion protection. If i would have known the brake lines were not treated i would have sprayed undercoat or something on them to keep them from rusting. The gm dealer that has done all my maintenance and repairs never left me know they were rusting while it was under the 100,000 extended warranty period. I contacted general motors for assistance and they refused to pay for my brake lines, this is a safety item and there should be a recall on all trucks no matter how new or nomatter how old that has these cheap steel lines on them. I took a 700 mile round trip and i didn't know my brake fluid was leaking until i got home and saw the fluid running down the frame onto the driveway. When i pushed on the brakes the brake fluid gushed out real bad. My reservoir was half empty and no warning light came on to let me know there was a problem. I was towing a snowmobile trailer and was extremely lucky i didnot have a situation where i had to brake hard. This is a major problem and should be addressed and recalled before someone gets killed.

Rear brake rotors rusted and pads only making 1/2" contact on inboard side of rotors on 2005 chevy silverado 2500 hd with less than 11,000 miles. Gm fix is to turn rotors instead of replacing with rotors that don't rust this quickly.

Power steering pump went out at 20,000 miles . Even at these low miles gm wouldn't cover it because it was out of warranty 5/05. But they wouldn'tpay because i use the truck for plowing i.e truck came from factory set up to have plow installed. Said plow was reason for pump failure.

While turning the steering wheel, i could feel a clunking, as though the linkage was very loose. I talked with the chevy dealer, and they were aware of the symptom and it was in the steering column. They said it was cosmetic, but did not affect safety. They said it would cost about $275 to fix it, but it is not clear if that would be just a temporary fix. Sometimes, this symptom also appears while driving straight ahead, but most often while in a turn, particularly at lower speeds.

Excessive free play in steering along with clunking sound, especially erratic while pulling trailer.at low speeds the primary symptom is the clunking, rattling sound along with the free play.at highway speeds, the erratic steering becomes the predominate symptom although the clunking and rattling sounds remain.

Purchased new in 2005. With low mileage and at 7 years old, clanking sounds from the front driver's side started. Felt somewhat in the steering wheel. Dealer replaced and wrote the "intermediate steering shaft to be binding." cost, $300.00. Truck not used off-road and half the miles are towing a 5th wheel trailer. Don't know if this has anything to do with it, but doubtful. I read many others via the nhtsa show this problem too, yet no recall ! seems a safety issue to me.currently, i'm experiencing this again as of 041114 @ 51,000 miles @ 9 years old. Will be taking vehicle to dealer - again.

Steering and handling is compromised by excessive play and vibration through the steering wheel. Steering wheel chatters when cornering and vibrates when traveling over the road.

Steering has been an issue with this truck since 12k and has been into the dealership for repair 5 times since.issue appears about every 8k-10k miles.bearings, joints, seals, all sorts of 'causes' have been identified and each time i'm assured it is fixed.only have 54k miles on this 2005 truck and i am again facing the dealership who is now less interested in helping since my warranty has expired.i'll never buy another chevrolet.

Pitman arm to center link broke during slight left turn a low speed leaving residential driveway. Vehicle had no steering after event. All original oem equipment with no modifications. Steering gear box had previously been replaced years earlier all other components original.

The steering was causing us problems.we took the truck to our local auto repair shop and they informed us it is the idler arm.after researching this topic it seems this has been a problem reported before.it also occurred on my uncle's 2005 chevrolet truck.however, despite these reports there has not been a recall.please notify me regarding the complaint.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Steering: (1) engine vibration felt in steering and seat when brakes applied. Dealership said excessive and said it was the powersteering hose bringing in the engine vibration. No fix. Started in 2006 and continues. (2) intermediate idler arm causing knocking feel in steering wheel when going over the slightest of bumps. Manufacture knows of problem and only bandaids problem by greasing part.once warranty is out, no free greasing/labor.problem started within 1st year and continues. Speedometer went crazy and clunking in steering.

Heard clicking noise coming from the front right side of the vehicle when making turns. Sound was only occasional at first then became louder and more prevalent over time. I took the vehicle to the chevrolet dealer and they determined that the right front hub bearing was faulty and required replacement. This is a sealed bearing that can not be lubricated during routine service intervals per the service adviser. Total failure of this bearing could cause the right front wheel to lock up while driving and/or generate a great amount of heat causing a tire blowout or fire. The bearing was replaced by the chevrolet dealer at a cost of $631.00. Old parts were not made available to me. The vehicle drives fine now and there is no noise. The vehicle is a 2005 chevrolet truck/ silverado 2500/pu with four-wheel drive and diesel engine.the vehicle had 54,370 miles on it.

Speedometer, tachometer and fuel gage show faulty indications, often not showing anything at all.

Dt*:the contact stated that on several occasions while driving 60 mph on dry roads, the vehicle engine light illuminated.the contact depressed the accelerator pedal, however the vehicle would not accelerate.the vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and shut off.

While driving my vehicle on a city street at approximately 45 miles per hour, i set the cruise control to maintain the 45 mile per hour speed. After less than 60 seconds, the cruise control cause the vehicle to accelerate rapidly to 85 miles per hour. Stepping on the brake at first did not cancel the cruise control. When it did finally cancel, i continue to drive manually. The cruise control then took over again and cause the vehicle to accelerate rapidly, exceeding the speed limit. Once again, the brakes were applied and the cruise control cancelled. The cruise control was turned off at the main switch on the turn signal stem. Later on, the cruise control was turned back on and tested again with the same results. After the third attempt to set the cruise control at 45 mph, the cruise would not set at all. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop. They were not able to find any specific electrical problems. But they did indicate that the cruise control module itself would probably be at fault. If the cruise control switch is left in the on position, but the cruise is not set, it may randomly take over the throttle and accelerate or sometimes hold its own speed for several minutes at different rates of speed. This creates a hazardous situation for all occupants of the vehicle along with others that may be in the path of the truck when it randomly accelerates.as of the time of this writing, a solution has not been found to correct this situation.

Since having the heater / ac fan speed control module replaced under a recall last fall, this summer i have had several situations where the a/c unit will turn to heat or, the a/c will go to defrost, defrost / feet, without moving the selector controls.

The hvac controls, air door actuator; part #89018365, failed on my truck one evening allowing only cold air to flow through the driver's side defroster/heater. Not only did i have cold air blowing all of the time on the driver's side of the truck but the windshield would fog up due to the cold air thus restricting my vision. This was not a good thing to happen while returning home one evening from another city. I looked on line and it appears chevy has had a lot of problems with this plastic switch. I have never had this problem with other vehicles in over 40 years of driving. It is extremely difficult to fix. Chevy dealer wanted over $500.00 to repair plus $263.56 for the part! i had it done elsewhere for $510.30. Should there be a recall on this part? why does this part fail so frequently?

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 2500.the contact stated that the heater and blower motor resister failed.the current and failure mileages were 56,000.

In june of 2005 i purchased a 2005 chevrolet 2500hd with the camp extendable mirrors. Upon leaving the dealership i called the sales rep and told him the mirrors were shaking and i could not identify vehicles behind me.i was told don't worry for i will have replacement mirrors ordered tomorrow. I was allowed by gm a replacement of the drivers side only for it was the worst. The replacement provides no change per the service technician , but he was not allowed to order another mirror for gm had released a bulletin of the mirror issue. I contacted gm receiving no recourse and no issue date of a possible fix. On 11-28 2005 i was involved in a accident because i believe i was staring in the mirror and side swiped a dump truck that crossed the median, and i did not react in time to avoid this accident.i have filed for the florida lemon law because gm tells me "it's only mirrors and we know about it so when there is a fix you will be notified. The 2006's have the cure!!!

I have had two valve stem failures in the last two months. The valve stems that were put in when i replaced the tires are rated at 65 psi max. The trucks recommended tire pressure is 80 psi. The two tire installers that i talked to say the 65 psi valve stems are installed for all vehicles. Is this really safe?
