Traveling on highway when smoke started coming from the dashboard. Pulled over and within several minutes the whole truck was on fire.
Dt: 2003 chevrolet 2500 hd truckexperienced an engine power reduction.the vehicle operated at a reduced speed.it goes at a crawl. This occurred at speeds of 40-50 mph in the middle of traffic.has to coast over to the side of the road, on average about 10-15 seconds after cutting off then the enginerestarted.this usually happenedafter vehiclehas not run for an extended period of time such as being parked overnight.took to a dealer, who replaced the accelerator pedal that ran by wire not cable.this was electric and computerized and some sort of signal went through the accelerator pedal and caused this failure.the vehicle will idle, but lost power.this has been a problem for the last 3 months.theproblemrecurred even after the replacement of 2 accelerator pedals.
I have had speedo problems for over a 1 year. Now it has become regular. This is a safety issue.chevy told me to go away because i am over mileage requirements. I see i am not alone. There are thousands of wacky speedometers out there. This kind of service has convinced me that chevy doesn't deserve to be in business anymore. The jokes will no longer be about fix or repair daily (ford).
Been having problems slowly with the battery running out because something is still running in the vehicle but everything is off. The gas gauge gear control lighting on the panel door on the passenger side will not lock speedometer is not working gas gauge is not working was checked by a mechanic and he address that something is not constant running even though everything is turned off that cause the battery to run down when it is off. Also the lights don't light on the right side stays on and never goes off when running the vehicle. I noticed this on a lot of 2500 chevy trucks. We have taken this vehicle in to be check. Please help us to resolve this problem as soon as possible. Thank you for your time. Looking forward to hearing back from you sun.
Speedometer randomly increases, decrease or will not work at all.oil gauge fluctuatesalso the heater resistors burned up.
Instrument cluster just quit working altogether.this will be the third time the cluster will have been replaced.the first two were on gm; this one is going to be on me.what in the world is wrong with gm or the manufacturer of this part.why do they keep producing crap?until the cluster is replaced, i have no idea of engine functions and if it weren't for my gps, i'd have no idea of my speed.
Instrument cluster panel of all gauges including speedometer and gear selection ' gauges can quit working with no warning , leaving the driver unaware of speed or distance traveled. Alsonot knowing what position the gear selector is in . ( park, neutral , drive etc. ) could allow the vehicle to drift awayon it own with no one behind the wheel when not being driven .can happen at any moment , any place !
I was traveling on the interstate with my family aboard at the speed around 75+ mph and suddenly the vehicle looses speed while traveling among others at around the same speed or higher when suddenly the speed decreases to no speed, and a this warning comes across the dash panel, that says reduced speed and all these 18 wheelers are behind me and around me. The more i press the accelerator it would do nothing but almost cost my wife a heart attack from the big trucks blowing there horn and fearing the day lights out of my family. Then a week later the cluster starts acting all crazy with the lights going out and on, and now they aren't working at all. The gauges stopped working the speed along with gas gauges etc... While i have never owned anything other than "chevy's", trucks and cars i have seriously been considering another name & make in my next choice of purchase.... So a loyal friend advised me to send gm a e-mail explaining my issues...
All gauges stopped working on my 2007 chevy silverado.

Engine does not idle and shuts off.according to internet sites, its a wire failure in the throttle body connector.can be a major issue when you come to a stop. Some times will not restart right away.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500. The contact stated that the blower motor malfunctioned and would not operate using the first three settings. The blower would only operate in the number four and five settings due to an electrical shortage. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. Started the truck and put into reverse.there was no brake and no steering control.i had to use the emergency brake to stop the vehicle.all fluids were topped off as normal and i regularly maintain this vehicle.after reviewing this issue in the diesel forum numerous duramax owners have endured the same problem with some ending in crashes. This is a major safetyissue!!!!!!!!!!!!simultaneous brake and steering failure.are you kidding me?wow!i tried chatting with gm and was dumped during the chat.no help there!i'll try again!
Speedometer is malfunctioning.
1. City and highway driving. 2. Speedo sticks almost always now. 3. Gm wants $700 to fix the problem, but others on web say it is temporary fix.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500.the contact stated that the transfer case was designed with a defect.as a result, the pump in the transfer case wore a hole from the inside to the outside of the transfer case.this allowed the oil in the transfer case to pump out the hole and caused the transfer case to run drive.the dealer stated that the vehicle was out of warranty and the contact would have to pay for the repair.the failure mileage was 130,000. Updated 3/16/09 the power steering started leaking fluid. The dealer informed the consumer the power steering fluid leak was coming from the hydro booster onto the power steering gear. The consumer lost his brakes. It was discovered the booster rod was missing.the parking brake did not work and the instrument cluster failed as well. The speedometer did not work it was reading 60 mph even when the vehicle was parked. Updated 03/18/09.

My speedo went out on my 2003 shevy 2500hd at 116000 miles.i went to start it on a cold day and it was reading 20mph in park.today it reads 70 mph in park and is reading over 70 mph over the speed that i am driving.
I have a 2003 chev. 2500 4x4 est. Cab long box.it has 18000 miles on it. I had to replace the rear brakes and rotors at 18000 miles.this is unacceptable for a truck of this type. (heavy duty). I also had a dim brake light on the dash, which i had checkedout at the dealer.they said it was in the dash board and would cost 400.00+ to fix.the dealer also said the steering was loose and this was caused by the factory when installed, 250.00+ to fix. What kind of product are they making?
The speedometer in my 2003 silverado hd crewcab 4x4 has broke. The indicator (needle) is now on the extreme right of the gauge. After doing some research i have found that this issue is common and the stepper motor will need to be replaced. To do this the entire instrument cluster may have to be replaced.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500.the contact stated that he must disconnect his battery in order for the speedometer to work.the speedometer is stuck on 45 mph and does not move up or down.the dealer stated that there was no recall; however, a tsb stated that within seven years or 70,000 miles the gauge clusters could be replaced.the vehicle was not included in the tsb.the failure mileage was 97,400.updated 03/23/09. *ljthe consumer stated he never knows how fast he is driving. Updated 03/24/09
Speedometer in my 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd is erratic. Sometime it works fine, other times it will register 30 mph at a stop. Other times it shows 120 mph when driving 65 mph. Some times it doesn't work at all.
Dt: the consumer states that2003 chevrolet c 2500 was having a message on the instrument panel showingreduced engine power. Then, the engine immediately dropped power. The speed will dramatically slow to around 15 mph. Thishappened 5 times currently. There have been several near misses as a result of the power reduction. The vehicle has been in the dealership 5 times for the engine power failure. The dealer replaced three times the wiring harness to the throttle position sensor, throttle body, power train control module, throttle actuator, control module, also, the ignition switchwas replaced and the engine was still losing power. The manufacturer has been contacted, and the customer service department was very unwilling to help or provide the address to the regional office. The customer service representative was very rude and refused to transfer the call to his supervisor upon request of the consumer.
Intermittently dash board lights and gauges will go blank.when the dash board lights go blank consumer cannot determine how fast the vehicle is going.the dealerexamined the vehicle five times.

Fuel injectors replaced all 8 injectors at 34901 miles, again at 85039, and again at 141,000 and now again at 185,000.
I notice a ticking from the engine compartment over the last couple of days.i assumed it may be an exhaust leak and i was correct.this vehicle has a stainless steel exhaust system that should last a lifetime yet there seems to be a real problem with exhaust manifold bolts breaking off, causing exhaust leaks which pollute the air and ruin other vehicle components such as the catalytic converter.i am also thinking that the manifolds are warping causing the bolts to break.these repairs are very expensive and/or time consuming.stainless steel bolts would have possibly prevented this problem.i understand that this problem affects 1999 to 2007 vehicles and i hereby request that a recall be forced upon the manufacturer.the manufacturer has been building cars long enough to know better.there is also a video on you - tube that explains this condition.

The failure mileage was approximately 139,000.
After loaning my daughter my truck we met at a location to exchange vehicles. I started to drive away and applied the brakes and the pedal went to the floor. I pumped the brakes and was unable to achieve any pedal pressure. I had my truck taken to my residence and inspected the brake system for the cause of the failure and found that the left rear steel line rusted through and created a loss of fluid. In my opinion this line rusting out is very premature for the age of the vehicle. I have owned many other vehicles that were older and have never had any issues with the brake or fuel lines rusting out.

The parking brake on 2003 chevrolet 2500 silverado pickup trucks with manual transmissions will not hold the vehicle on even a very slight grade without constant adjustments being made to the brake system. If there is a trailer being towed or a load being carried in the truck bed, the parking brake will not hold even following a dealer service adustment.i have reported this problem to the dealer and beyond adjusting the brake they say there is nothing that can be done.my truck has 48000 miles on it and this has been a problem almost from the beginning. The truck has nearly run into the side of a building, rolled out of its parking space, and started rolling down a hill while i was exiting the truck. I cannot safely park the truck unless it is on level ground, parking brake engaged and transmission placed in reverse.i have a friend that owns a 2001 chevrolet 3500 silverado with the same problem.

On november 17, 2014, i was stopped in the middle lane of a highway waiting to pull into business parking lot, when i accelerated to pull in, my truck moved forward and then would only rev up the rpm's, almost getting hit by on coming traffic on the highway, i coasted in the parking lot, as the rpm's were still up, the transmission engaged and the truck moved forward with a loud thump. Local dealership replaced a part ($900) and sent me on my way. On december 27, 2014 while driving away from my house, once again the engine would rev up and the truck just coasted until it engaged causing a loud thump. I called and left message with service writer. On january 02, 2015, i was with 1/2 mile of my house and truck would not shift, i was able to turn around and drive back to the house at a very low speed keeping the rpm's low. Truck is currently at local dealership waiting for my approval to replace transfer case which has a pin hole in it and some other parts for $3100. I realize that problems can happen with any manufacture, however this gm issue with a pinhole in the transfer case that is caused by an internal part that breaks and drivers losing power to the drive train is a regular occurrence. I found many forums and solutions on the internet and one on nhtsa. After market parts have been developed to replace the cheap parts within the transfer case to prevent this from happening, unfortunately i did not research this issue prior to having the issue. In addition, i called a local repair shop to get an estimate for the transfer case replacement, i was told they repaired three in the last two weeks and two are in the shop for the same problem. Loss of power to the drive train is not something to ignore, from personal vehicles to public safety vehicles, this power loss could turn into something much larger than some atf stain in the driveway. Thank you
The vehicle down shifted erratically, which caused the rear wheels to lock and the vehicle to spin.
When loading and going around curves automatic transmissionwill go into neutral with gear shift still in drive.the motor raced, and vehicle was inshop twice.

Took vehicle to dealer twice with complaint of parking brake non functional. Allowed truck to move fwd. When parked on incline, prk brake pedal fully depressed. Supposedly brakes adjusted twice, problem never better post dealer shop visit. Took it to private shop. Found to have pads soaked with differential fluid from rear end seal failure. Most probable cause of emergency brake failure. On discussing with mechanic, he mentioned this is a known common failure on these units. Paid for repairs myself. Never submitted for warranty repair to the dealer or to the ext. Warranty contract company (autogap xtend). Problem is fixed now. Seals ,old pads, repair receipt are in my possession.
2003 chevy 2500 truck, 6.0 liter engine with standard shift transmission.the truck has an electronic throttle.the throttle has a delay off of idle in rpm and power.when the truck is stopped at a light on a hill you cannot prevent excessive roll-back or stall because of the delay.if the truck is in a noisy environment the problem is even worse because you can not tell what the engine will do, or is doing unless you stare at the tachometer.you can not predict engine response from the throttle position when starting out from a dead stop on a grade.i have owned 3 cars, 2 turcks, backhoe and farm tractor with a standard shift transmission and have a valid state of ohio cdl license.
The transfer case on my chevrolet 2500 hd crew cab has went out for the 2nd time in 2 years, 1st incident was march 2004 ,and now april 2005. Plastic gears seem to strip whenever engaged in 4-wheel drive after not being utilized for any length of time.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500. The contact stated that while driving 10 mph, the brake pedal abnormally traveled to the floorboard when depressed.the contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic, who stated that the brake lines were rusted and fractured. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 150,568.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500. While the contact's son was driving 2 mph in a parking lot, the brake pedal was applied, but the vehicle failed to respond when it was depressed to the floorboard. There were no warning indicators illuminated. Also, the low brake fluid indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to lindsay buick gmc (250 w shirley ave, warrenton, va 20186, (540) 987-2082) where it was diagnosed that the brake lines were corroded. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 190,703.
Had to make hard stop and brakes failed, later it was revealed brake lines had rotted out.. This has happened on several occasions?
I was driving down the road and depressed the brakes to stop and pull into my drive way the pedal went to the floor and the brakes did not stop the vehicle.as a result the vehicle made contact with my garage door and it was damaged in the incident.this incident is completely unacceptable to me.there were no warning lights prior to failure.i have taken the vehicle to a shop and the lines are rusted through.
Brake line rupture from the abs module to rear of the truck. The brake line is completely rusted through and i can see brake fluid dripping off the frame underneath the driver side door.i believe it rupture in my driveway returning from a trip with my camper attached to the bed.
I was traveling in icy conditions (rain and 26 degrees) and was turning the corner to go into a local mall when i stepped on the brakes, the pedal went to the floor.there was no warning whatsoever and had to apply the brakes with both feet to coast to a stop.i added in a bottle of brake fluid into the master cylinder and had my son step on the brakes, and a gusher came out of the line right under the drivers door.in looking underneath the vehicle, all of the lines seem to run there and all look extremely rusted to the point where i can't tell which is bad.if this had happened 4 minutes before, i was traveling down an extremely steep grade and feel that both my son and i would have been killed.after searching the internet on this issue, it looks like this has been investigated by the nhtsa since 2010 with no findings whatsoever. This is absolutely in excusable. I'm not sure what i am looking for as far as repairs go but am really thankful that my son and i are still alive. What is it going to take to get a ruling on this?does someone have to die?
I was driving into my driveway when i tried to stop the brake pedal went entirely to the floor.the truck seemed as though it was gonna hit my garage.thankfully i have good reflexes and was able to hit the parking brake (which isn't an easy task in a p/u truck.when i got out, i noticed a large leak under my driver door.with further investigation i found the brake lines were severely corroded.one of them had sprung a leak and was spraying brake fluid everywhere.the over all state of the brake line system is in horrible condition.i had this happen to me before in my '93 chevy truck... But its expected at twice the age of my '03 truck.i saw the nhtsa had an investigation that was about exactly what happened to me and wanted to report it.
While stationary and applying the brakes. The brake petal went to the floor and the vehicle had no brakes!a rusted brake line had burst letting the brake fluid run out.
I was driving down a hill when a car went through a stop sign at an intersection. I slammed on my brakes, in a panic stop, and my brake pedal went to the floor. I didn't have any brakes so i drove around the car almost hitting it. The other car didn't stop and i drove 5 mph to a parking lot where i looked and found a puddle of brake fluid under the driver side of the truck. I took it to my auto shop and he said i blew out two brake lines. I had all the brake lines replaced at the cost of 2,269.99.
My rear steel brake line burst in a parking lot after applying the brake to shift into gear.the main line that runs from the abs module to the rear differential was so rusted it burst unexpectedly.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500. While driving 15 mph, the abs light illuminated. The contact depressed the brake pedal, which failed to stop the vehicle. As a result, the contact crashed into another vehicle at a low speed. The contact sustained back injuries that required medical attention. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 154,330.
Corroded brake line failed.complete brake failure. No brakes.
Just as we pulled into our driveway pulling a fifth wheel camper as my family was returning from a camping trip our brakes failed.cause was a pinhole corroded in a steel brake line.we had been driving on mountainous roads and had this happened during the trip instead of miraculously as we arrived at home a tragic accident would have been a high probability.the truck has been well cared for and is in excellent condition with very minor corrosion underneath.vehicle has been garaged much of the time and has had very limited exposure to corrosive chemicals.this was a total surprise and shock.due tto the cost of this vehicle we limit usage to extend life and with the care given this vehicle this should not have happened.
Rusted brake lines, vehicle would not stop.
Brake line burst do to rust.had vehicle towed and found all the brakelines very bad.also the fuel lines are rotted with the return line leaking fuel.i had 1 rear brake line replaced in 2012 which was also rusted out.

I was loaded up on my 2003 2500hd chevrolet silverado for the weekend holiday camp trip with truck camper, and boat on trailer behind. For last minute safety my partner was inside the truck and i outside to test the brake lights, signals usual stuff before taking off. For no reason at all the brakes went to the floor and brake fluid all over the ground on the driver side of the vehicle.in looking closer the second line from the driver door on top of the frame has a split in it. I have now looked at the numerous complaints on this happening to other people.i have looked at gm's response for this obvious defect in the brake system and tend to wonder how many persons at gm would purchase a vehicle for themselves or their loved ones knowing of this huge safety issue. The complaints are not just in salt related places. Even if they were does gm not build their vehicles for all states and road conditions??? i can say i am one of the lucky ones that this just happened in our driveway. Where were going entailed mountain driving and i do not believe the outcome would have been the same if it were to happen then i keep thinking about this daily and the fear that goes with the thought of,what if we were in the mountains?does not go away. I will not drive this vehicle again until i have replaced all the brake lines with stainless steel ones and it is going to be costly. I should not have to do this nor should have all the other persons who have had to. This is an unbelievable safety issue that needs to be addressed immediately before some fatality happens if not already. These vehicles need to be safe in all driving conditions and areas period. Gm needs to recall these vehicles on this which i understand is 6.1 million. I am appalled they have not already recalled on this and portrayed such a lame excuse as to not do something about it. Please fix this now!
I bought a 2003 chevy silverado 2500hd 15 years ago and gave it to my 16 year old son. Recently we noticed that the brakes and steering was acting funny and making a noise, so we replaced the power steering pump and hoses. The problem only started getting worse. I did some research and found an old recall or notice related to the hydro-boost relief valve that was defected because of o-ring failure. Just searching the vehicle will show several sites revealing the problem. The nada site goes into more detail on the problem. We have parked the truck until a decision is made. I contacted the manufacture and they stated that there was no problem, the vehicle has trouble when steering and looses braking.
I was driving my son home from football practice and had to brake hard for a car that stopped suddenly in front of me.my pedal went to the floor and i barely stopped in time.there was a puddle of brake fluid on the ground and one of the steel lines running under the vehicle (near the driver side door area) had burst.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500. The contact stated that the brake pedal was applied and the vehicle failed to stop. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake lines needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact also stated that the hood latch was rusting and the vehicle was leaking diesel fuel. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 123,173.
The contact owns a2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 mph the brake pedal was engaged and there was no response. The brake pedal suddenly traveled to the floorboard without warning. The contact began to down shift in addition to applying the emergency brake. The vehicle came to a stop and the contact was able to drive to his residence. The contact noticed that the hydraulic brake line ruptured andcaused fluid to leak excessively onto the ground. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 28,000.
Rear brakes rusted out fluid burst out no brakes two yrs ago. Fast foreword saturday 12/22/2018 brakes pedal went to floor ,line from brake booster to proportioning valve blew out rusted completely through.
One of the brake lines ruptured as i attempted to relocate the vehicle in my driveway.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500. While depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle would not immediately stop and the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard. The contact noticed brake fluid leaking under the driver's side of the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the brake lines were corroded and failed, which caused brake fluid to leak out. The brake lines were replaced. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 133,900.
Hit brakes the abs system activates and the brake pedal goes to the floor truck does not stop. This happens at all speeds. The ignition shuts off when driving down the road around 35 mph. The truck has been to multiple shops and lots of parts replaced cannot get the brakes or ignition fixed. This has been going on for over 6 months.
Brake lines roted out total system failed no brakes got to stop on e brake clamped line added fluidto get homechanged all lines.
This is the second incident(first time in 2011 on the rear brake line),applied brake to shift from park and pedal went to the floor! this time it was the front brake lines about a foot from abs unit above the frame! thank god i was not moving on the road cause it might have been serious!! very poor design, should be a recall!!!
Steel brake line to rear of truck rusted through, which caused brake fluid to leak out & system could not generate sufficient pressure to stop the vehicle quickly.fortunately traffic was relatively light and i had a significant gap in front of me.the brakes functioned normally several times prior in the same trip, and no warning light came on, even during the failure.at the next key off & on, the warning light did actually come on.
Dt*: the contact stated while traveling 50 mph, power steering was lost and braking became harder.the vehicle was pulled over and power steering fluid was replaced, but that did not correct the problem.the vehicle was driven to the residence and the power steering pump was replaced, this did not repair the problem.the dealership determined there was a collapsed hose.the hose was replaced, but the problem persisted.there was a nhtsa recall, # 04v045000, regarding the brakes.the vehicle was not included in the recall due to the vin.
Steel brake line running from left front brake to abs pump corroded where the line is exposed in the wheel well. Brake pedal suddenly went to floor and pool of fluid was noticed under front of vehicle. Happened while parked in driveway so no accident.
The abs system on my 2003 chevyc2500hd pick up truck were malfunctioning constantly for several weeks.each and everytime i came to a stop the abs system would engage, the pedal would almost bottom out and the truck was hard to stop. And several times i was almost in the middle of an intersection before stopping.the right and left abs sensors were replaced with new sensors at a cost of almost $500.00.i was not given the old parts. This 03 truck has only 41,000 miles and i fill that the original sensors were defective. These sensors are not a normal maintenance part and are not like filter, oil changes ,brakes jobswiper blades which are normal wear and tear items. These sensors are an very important part of the entire brake system . I believe chevrolet has a problem with this part but will not acknowledge their responsibility in this matter. I have complained to chevrolet motor division and told them that chevrolet should pay for the premature failure of these parts.. These faulty sensors can causean accident..
Leaving woods going down a hill with a load of firewood in bed. Applied brakes & pedal went to floor. Had to replace brake line because it was too corroded to repair. 2nd incident: backing trailer into water to take boat out. Applied brakes & pedal went to the floor. This occurred on 07/28/2011 with mileage @ 105,000. At this time all i know is the brake line blew.
Rear brake line rupture behind fuel tank on 2003 chevy silverado while normally driven. Inspected the lines forrepair and found severe corrosion of all lines aft of the a.b.s. Unit. Have replaced lines with aftermarket bendable ones as performed are not available i am told. Large sections of old line are in my possession. 60,000 miles on unit undercarriage corrosion is terrible.
Rusty brake lines, all system brake lines and brake parts are rusting to the point of failure. Two lines failed. All system parts are being replaced.
Sudden braking failure on 2003 chevy 2500hd. Loss of brake fluid due to sudden loss of brake line pressure. Brake lines failed while driving.
Comming to a stop light i was slowing down and when i went to come to a final stop the brake pedal went right to the floor and i rolled through the intersection. I have owned a lot of cars and never in my life have i had this happen even in the oldest of cars or trucks, before this with only 20000.00 miles on the truck i had to replace all four rotors due to such bad corrosion that they could not be cut. And now with only 75000.00 miles i have to replace all the brake lines for the same reason.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500. While driving approximately 25 mph, the brake pedal was applied and began extending abruptly to the floorboard. The vehicle continued to accelerate.the emergency brake was immediately engaged and the vehicle came to a stop. An authorized dealer was notified of the failure and they advised that the failure was contributed to faulty brake lines. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact planned to inform the manufacturer of the brake malfunction. The approximate failure mileage was 73,000.
2003 chevrolet 2500 hd pick-up.i pulled into my driveway slowly and when i applied my brakes to stop, the brakes failed.grabbed emergency brake to stop truck.upon inspection, rear driver side metal brake line had split in the bend it makes to reach the rear axle from the frame.all connections were tight and leak free.metal line had corroded and failed for no reason.
Thecontact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500.the contact stated while driving 30 mph the brakes were applied and they malfunctioned causing the brake pedal to extend to the floorboard.the contact had to down shift and apply the emergency brake in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who diagnosed that the brake line blow out was due to excessive corrosion.the contact dealer did replace the brake line and advised the contact that the vehicle was unsafe to drive.the failure mileage was 20,000.updated 09/27/11 updated 2/28/12
When coming to a stop the brakes work fine up to about 10 mph then the brakes seem to release.this creates a very dangerous situation. If coming to a stop with normal stopping distance the problem could cause a crash to occur.
Today i was told my 2003 chevrolet silverado (diesel, crew cab) needed a new transfer case.the vehicle has approximately 125,000.our company owns two other similar 2003 vehicles (gmc model).the same thing happened to both other vehicles.one at approximately 12,000 miles, the other at 140,000 miles.something happens within the transfer case that causes the case to be punctured and lose fluid.the case overheats and eventually the vehicle seizes up.the cost to repair this condition is $3,200.in addition it causes the anti-lock brake module to fail, resulting in another $500 of damage.i assume the anti-lock brakes no longer works once this happens.i wonder how many vehicles this is happening to.all 3 of our 2003 models experienced this.we were unable to find any transfer cases at the junk yards.the last repair we had for this took 2 weeks to get the parts - there are none in stock apparently.all of this leads me to believe this is a design defect in these vehicles and it may be potentially dangerous if it does indeed cause the anti-lock brake module to fail.it took 2 weeks at the dealer to figure out that the damaged transfer case was causing the modules to fail.are you getting lots of complaints on this?is there a silent recall or campaign covering this problem?it is hard to pay this kind of money on a vehicle that has a $700/month payment and was presumably purchased for it's durability and safety.
2003 chevy 2500hd truck. Brake rotors "severely rusted" as stated by dealer. Truck only has 37,500 miles; brake pads only making contact with 1/3 of rotor surface on all 4 rotors. Dealer resurfaced rotors but expects problem to continue, with all 4 rotors need to be replaced in near future due to poor rotor quality; was told even if i replaced the rotors, i'd still have the same problem again within 30k miles.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500. The front and rear brake rotors dissenigrated and fell apart. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on two occasions. The dealer replaced the rotors on the rear and front brakes. The brakes failed and the brake shoes fell off of the truck 5,000 miles after the rotors were replaced. There were no recallsand the dealer stated that the contact is responsible for the repair cost. The failure mileage was 32,754.
- the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado k2500hd. The contact stated that corrosion in the break line of his vehicle caused break fluid leakage. Break failure increases the risk of vehicle crash. He is in the process of taking the vehicle to the dealer for inspection. He filed a complaint with the manufacturer.the current and failure mileages were 80,000.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet k2500hd silverado. The contact was reversing 5 mph from a residential driveway. As the contact applied the brakes, there was no response from the vehicle yet he was able to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a local repair facility where the mechanic discovered that the rear and front brake lines were corroded. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure and the current mileage was 50,000.

The steering column rattles to the point you think it is coming undone, turning, driving straight, it doesn't matter. Very unsafe in our opinion in our company truck.
The contact owned a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500. While driving 25 mph, the contact made a left turn and the reduced engine power light illuminated. Not my veh. Never has been, told dealer 3 times, still getting notices.
Traveling on highway when smoke started coming from the dashboard. Pulled over and within several minutes the whole truck was on fire.
2003 chevy silerado tailgate pops open, hard to close and has been fixed 3 times. This is an acciendent waiting to happen because cargo can fall outof the bed. I spoke with others and they have reported the same.
Replacement of the faulty tail gate on the 2003 chevrolet c2500. *mr gm led the consumer to believe that the tailgate he replaced was going to be replaced by them with the original parts if the dealer agreed the problem was said to be caused by the tailgate cables. *sc
Purchasedthe truck from car geeksandthey said it was a great truck and we would have no problemtowing our fifth wheel trailer. Well we took it on a trip to phoenixfrom tucsonand we noticedthat the truck was not handlingverywell when we got home i noticedthat the passenger side tire was gouged out all the way aroundthe inside bead of the tire also noticed that only the upper control arm had been replaced and nothingelse. I bought a new 2003 chevy express cargo van (2500) in 2003.when this vehicle is under load, traveling on roads with six/seven percent downhill grades, the front end shakes violently. Simply tapping the brakes will not bring it under control, you have to literally slam on the brakes,or take the risk of being tossed off the highway.the vehicle has never been stressed in any way (wrecks, hitting curbs, etc) the dealer is unable to determine the problem. I want a dealership to take it,with me,to a road of my above description and find this problem and fix it. I am positive i am not the only person with this model van, with this problem. I have come very close to eternity in this van because of this malfunction.i have not driven the van in three months because of anxiety with the problem. Dying in a chevy van because of something like this is no part of what i want in my future.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet c/k 2500.while driving 20 mph, the entire front driver side of his vehicle collapsed.the rim, tire, and wheel detached from the vehicle.the contact believed that the failure was caused by the lower ball joint.the vehicle was destroyed.the contact sustained a broken nose and pain in the shoulder.a police report was filed.the vin and purchase date were unknown.the current and failure mileages were 17,000.
Dt*:the contact stated when the temperature is below 25 degrees the heater does not blow hot air.the dealership inspected the vehicle several times and was unable to locate a problem within the heating system. Updated 2/13/2006 - the dealer replaced the thermostat and other components to correct the problem but the problem continued.
My speedo went out on my 2003 shevy 2500hd at 116000 miles.i went to start it on a cold day and it was reading 20mph in park.today it reads 70 mph in park and is reading over 70 mph over the speed that i am driving.
2003 chevrolet 2500hd 4x4 speedometer stopped working at 38,000 miles. Vehicle just out of warranty. Read forums of hundreds of people having same problem. Gm should recall. Thiswas a safety issue.
Speedometer randomly increases, decrease or will not work at all.oil gauge fluctuatesalso the heater resistors burned up.
The transfer case on my chevrolet 2500 hd crew cab has went out for the 2nd time in 2 years, 1st incident was march 2004 ,and now april 2005. Plastic gears seem to strip whenever engaged in 4-wheel drive after not being utilized for any length of time.
