My truck 2002 chevy silverado 2500hd has an engine leak. I have heard rummers of a bad valve in the engine that lets to much oil go through. I have mentioned to the service associate at the dealer and he has not mentioned of any such defect. I have talk to several other gm truck owners and they have the same complaint from their 8.1l engine.

On thursday, august 6, 2015 at approximately 1:20 pm natchez railway employees [xxx] were attempting to start vehicle #1828 which was being stored on the grounds of the natchez depot.vehicle #1828 is a 2002 chevrolet 2500 pickup truck with vin #[xxx] and had been driven from the grenada railway approximately three weeks prior.[xxx] was sitting in the driver's seat and the battery appeared to be dead. When he pulled the hood release latch, the passenger side air bag activated with a large bang and the cab of the truck was filled with a white powder.[xxx] suffered a slight ringing in the ears from the noise.a check with the general motors website indicates this vehicle is not subject to any recalls, especially for defective airbags.at the time of the incident, the air temperature was approximately 95⁰ f with 60% humidity. The vehicle has been parked for over two weeks with the doors and windows closed.daytime high temperatures during this period have been in the 95⁰ to 100⁰ range. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The driver of the 2002 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd i am filling this report about had to slow the vehicle down quickly from 65 mph.apon applying the anti-lock brakes the front wheels locked. (skidding) causing loss of directional control of the vehicle. Despite the driver's efforts, since not having directional control of the vehicle, she was unable to keep it from striking another vehicle and a utility pole.this crash resulted in a total lose of the 2002 chevrolet as well as additional property damage, totaling approximately $40,000.personal injury loss in excess of well over $5,000.there was also a failure of the srs, the driver's airbag did not deploy.

While driving at 45-50 mph and upon coming to a three way stop sign brakes failed, and consumer collided head on into an embankment.the impact causedseat belts to become undone, andair bags did not deploy. Consumer sustained a broken sternum and facial fractures. Manufacturer and the dealer have been informed of the problem.

My 2002 chevy 2500 hd silverado with 8.1 engine quits running while driving. Does not matter what speed i'm going, it just stops running. After i pull over put truck in park, turn key off for a few minutes it will usually start up.

2002 chevrolet 2500hd w/ 8.1l gasoline engine: the failure of the crankshaft position sensor on these engines appears to be a very common problem. This sensor failed on my truck at only 30k miles! i know of two other '02 trucks w/ this engine that also had the sensor fail and many others have been discovered while doing research on this problem!the seriousness of the problem lies in the fact that the truck suddenly stops running for no reason and you lose all power for the brakes and steering. At times it will restart without any problems once you shift to neutral, but other times it may not restart for a day or more. This was a huge safety issue for me since i tow a 10k lbs. Fifth-wheel with the truck! my truck stopped running four times over the course of two weeks as a result of this problem. Everytime was while traveling in traffic, with only one of the times while being stopped at a light!my truck is no longer under warranty due to the time limit of 36 months expiring. To have such a part fail with only 30k miles on the engine is outrageous. One of the other trucks i know of had the sensor fail around 55k miles. Same problem, it would just stop in traffic or when pulling out of a light or stopped turn. Again, a huge safety issue!!!the costs to me to repair my truck follow:ac delco replacement crankshaft sensor - $69.26tow charges to tow to joseph chevrolet, cincinnati, oh - $58.85labor due to the original sensor breaking in the block! - $336.54total cost to replace the sensor after only 30k miles! = $464.65again, i have to repeat how large a safety issue this is on these trucks!!! the engine just stops for no reason at any time, highway, slow moving, stopped, etc. It may restart, but then again it may not for many hours! the trucks with these engines in them are generally towing large trailers behind them. This compounds the safety aspect of the problem.

Vehicle was parked when neighbor noticed smoke coming out of the engine area. Consumer used fire extinguisher to put out the fire.*ph

The glow plugs and fuel injectors fail prematurely i was told by the locol servace manager that there was plenty of time to get the repairs but a few weeks later when i brought it in for the supposed free repairs they tell me the time for mine is over its too old. When no one had showed me a print out and the company i bout it from never disclosed the issue. If the vehicle stalls in traffic it could cause an accident.

Knownto gm injector problems with chevy silverado vehicles. My injector cracked or failed and diesel went in to my engine oil, causing an over fill of 2 gallons. Oil was leaking out all over from my truck while i was driving. There are many other post about this problem and gm is aware but hasn't issued a recall.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet silverado 2500. While driving at 65 mph, the engine stalled and the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle restarted after numerous attempts. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 82,000.

While driving, the engine will suddenly shut down and without warning stop.

Exhaust manifold bolts breaking and both exhaust manifolds cracking evry 50000 miles.occurs while driving.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet silverado 2500. The contact stated that the head gasket failed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis where the technician stated that the head gasket needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 143,000.

The truck was hooked to a 25' gooseneck trailer loaded with hay.the engine was the duramax diesel with allison transmission.the intent was to haul hay from eastern washington to western washington.the power steering pump broke a shaft inside the pump making the power steering unusable.as it turns out the power steering pump also serves as the power brake assist.at a speed of about 3 mph, it was all i could do to brake the truck but was unable to turn the wheels.it was very fortunate that this happened in the farmers field and not on the highway.if i had been driving on the highway when the pump quit working, the truck would have gone off of the roadway, most likely over a steep cliff because i would have been unable to steer the truck or stop it due to the single pump failure.additionally, the load of hay would have caused the truck to pick up speed if it was going down hill.

2002 2500hd chevy silverado stalling for the last 6 months randomly. Taken to have fixed cannot identify the problem with computer scan. Truck stalling on the highway many times.once truck stalls, turn off key, let set for 10 -15 seconds, restart. I guess the system resets itself. This is not safe.

Loud hard knocking noise coming from engine at cold start up.then after engine is warmed up after driving and deceleration you can still hear the knocking noise, just not as loud as at cold start.taken to dealership, and advised chevrolet was aware of problem, and did not have a solution.advised by dealer it would not hurt engine, but i disagree, the very hard knocking can not be good for the valves, or crankshaft, and has to be causing some sort damage within the engine itself.

Chevy silverado 2500 hd w/ 6l engine-- problem with throttle sticking.carbons up every two months around throttle valve and throttle sticks. Then takes excessive throttle pressure to try to move. ---is a serious safety issue when moving in tight quarters. Chevy has issued service modifications for 5.3l and 4.8l engines for same problem but has ignored the 6.0l. Cleaning the carbon works for only two months then problem recurs. Chevy should make a field fix like the other models before someone gets hurt.

I purchased a 2002 chevrolet hd2500 with a 8100 liter engine.i have now been told that this engine will use 1 quart of oil for each 1,000 miles driven.i believe that this is an excessive amount of oil to be used in a new vehicle.has chevrolet done anything to correct this mistake.is there a recall for this problem?

While driving the vehicleat 50mphengine will start loosing or gaining power. Dealer has been notified. Please provide further information.ts

On both my 2003 chevy suburban, and 2002 chevy k2500 truck, the gas gauge reads erroneously.tends to get hung up at 1/4 tank, then later goes to empty...at which time i've run out of gas!chevy replaced the burb fuel sensor twice, and the truck once...under warranty.past warranty they will not help.safety issue:i ran out of gas in downtown atlanta interstate traffic during rush hour, had to weave my dead truck through 70 mph traffic to the left shoulder.very dangerous move...luckily was not rear-ended!have friends w/ same truck...same problem.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. The contact stated that the vehicle suddenly stalled while parked. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed a failure with the fuel injector pump. The contact pumped air out of the fuel injectors and restarted the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostics where the technician stated that the fuel injector and fuel injector pump had to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated prior to having ownership of the vehicle, the fuel injectors were replaced under an extended warranty. The approximate failure mileage was 180,000. The vin was not available.

We have a2500 hd also with failed injectors. We were not injured nor killed. However, oil and diesel blew out on roadway and on the engine of truck. I do not know if this caused an accident with the vehicle behind me or not.how many accidents could have happened and no one realized it was from the oil of our truck.further more chevy knows this is a problem.so how many people have to get hurt or die before they take care of the problem.of everyone i have talked to only one person was under warranty and they made it by 14 days. Chevy has a problem and needs to fix it, and not with an extended warranty.this is my first chevy and will be my last.maybe that is why chevy needed bail out money

While drivingo rings blew out, causing loss of steering and brakes.

Purchased vehicle 8-25-01- brakes where unalbe to stop vehicle.

While driving injector put fuel into the oil pan. The ses light illuminated. Took the vehicle to the dealer. They supposedly fixed it.consumer was concerned with collateral damages to the engine.

I own a 2002 chev k2500hd. I have had several problems, but was unaware of this site to report these problems until now. First, the dryer switch on the ac went bad @ 34k. Second,@ 65k i had to replace the front left wheel hub assembly as talked about in one of the other complaints i read. Third, @ 95k my transfer case developed a leak and i lost all the fluid. A chevrolet mechanic showed me a transfer case that had gone bad due to the same problem and had been used in 4wd w/out fluid in it. Another chevrolet mechanic told me he had seen several of these and that "jb weld is your friend". So i patched the hole, and 10k later it developed a second leak in a similar location and also about this same time an electrical part (about $550) went out for my 4wd. Now at 130k it has developed a third leak! also starting @ approximately 50k, my rear differential has locked up on me several times and i have had to replace 4 cables on my tailgate. After being a chevy man all my life i think i will look at toyota.

The emergency brake on my truck has gone out.i have only 36000 miles on the vehicle.i understand there is a corrective fix for this problem.dealers will install a low-force spring clip retainer for vehicles equipped with a pbr parking brake system.the dealer would only replace the retainer clip but states i would have to pay for the emergency brake shoes. I feel gm should pay for the brake shoes since the retaining clip 'caused the problem.

Parking brake on 2002 silverado 2500 pickup fails to hold.potential for roll away causing accident with potential for bodily harm.

Complete loss of front brake system while driving. I noted a soft pedal while sitting at a traffic light and on the next brake apply there was little or no deceleration until the pedal was near the floor.the rear wheels locked up momentarily while slowing the vehicle at the extent of pedal travel. After stopping the vehicle,i noted a steady stream of brake fluid coming from the line when the brake was applied.the brake line running to the abs unit under the driver side door had a large leak in an area of heavy corrosion.upon further inspection i found that most of the brake lines had heavy corrosion on the vehicle although no other leaks were noted.

Some times when i start my 2500 hd chevrolet silverodo 4wd extended cab truck the service 4wd indicater comes on and when i go to the dealer they tell me they dont know what it is.im thinkin that its falty wiring.it also makes an awfule ticking sound right when i start it too.all the time.

Vehicle clunks when shifting between gears and will jump between gears. Will not shift into overdrive until 65mph or a distance of approximately 12 miles. Loss of reverse. Has been to dealer under warranty twice at mileage of 25,000 miles.

Routine maintenance revealed a leak in the transfer case.this lead to discover a small hole in the case.this is caused by a part defect that breaks over time.usually around 85,000 to 105,000 miles.the part is an "anti-rattle clip" that prevents the inner pump from of course rattling.when this part breaks, the pump then rubs a hole from the inside out.if this is not caught in time, the lubricating oil would run dry and this would lead to a drivetrain malfunction.i will be ordering a replacement transfer case.yes old part will be available.note:as of yet, the replacement part for this has no modifications to prevent this from happening again.

Pump retaining pinon the transfer case failed, permitting the pump to wear a hole in the transfer case with sudden release of the engine oil. Chevrolet is not claiming knowledge.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet silverado 2500. While driving various speeds and attempting to slow down by depressing the brake pedal, the brake pedal traveled to the floor and made it very hard to stop. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the brakes lines failed due to corrosion and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 84,000.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet silverado 2500. While driving 25 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and traveled to the floorboard. The contact noticed a leak coming from the brake line and rust. The contact did not engage the emergency brake. The contact was unsure if any warning indicators were illuminated. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted.the failure recurred, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 75,000.

Total brake failure.started my truck and discovered i had no brakes.

Brake line ruptured while pulling an rv.

Went to back out of my driveway, hit the brake pedal and it went to the floor. The curb across the street stopped me. Luckily there were no kids riding bikes or playing in the street....looked under my truck and saw that the brake lines were corroded and one had apparently burst. There was a large puddle of brake fluidwhere i was parked. I'm just so glad no one got hurt, but its probably just a matter of time before someone does.

Metal brake line corroded through and i lost brake pressure.an accident did not occur, most likely due to the truck being unloaded.the week before the incident, i was hauling large loads of hay.

On my 2002 silverado, the abs activates at low speeds causing brakes to pulse and increase stopping distance.clearly nhtsa reference #05v379000 states that this only affects certain states.my vehicle falls into the manufacturer's recall date range as it was manufactured in august 2001.chevrolet refuses to fix this issue under a recall and are telling me that they do not issue recalls that are state specific and that my vehicle does not qualify.needing help getting this issue resolved.

While driving , had to make a sudden stop, appled the brake peddle hard, brakes appled then went down to to floor. Brake lines behine the cab rupturd, do to badly rusted lines.

Rusted out brake line to rear brakes along frame rail on my 2002 silverado 4 x 4. Thank god no one was injured. This truck i purchased brand new and has never seen any winter weather until 2013. I was involved in a unrelated accident in jan. 2013 and the truck sat at a body shop until the end of may 2013. This year i had to use my truck. Should a brake line have rusted thru prematurely? i don't think so. I think gm should be accountable for this failure and reimburse all people affected by this substandard part failure.

Brake lines rotting out under my drivers door on my 2002 silverado ,never saw so much rust in my life and i live in a fairly warm climate, dealer wanting 1500.00 to replace ,there arealot of other owners complaining about this ,,,someone will get killed because of this....

While approaching the back of another vehicle while it was taking a left hand turn, i applied my brakes and had none, the peddle went to the floor and i could not stop. I down shifted the truck into low gear which is with an automatic transmission and applied the emergency brake.i had the truck towed to a repair shop where i was told thebrakes are rotted and line ruptured.i understand there are a lot of problems with the brake lines on these vehicles and something should be done about them. Surely they are made of inferior materials because this problem is not happening with other trucks models like ford, dodge, or tundra. Truck is now at steve's accurate auto repair, madbury nh.

On restarting the vehicle moments after having driven it without issue, the brake pedal felt spongy, and with more pressure, sunk to the floor.fluid was found to be running off of the truck frame under the drivers door.no warning light came on at the time.later, apparently when the fluid had drained down enough, the brake warning light came on.on inspection, all of the brake lines were found to be very badly decayed just forward of the abs unit, with one having failed.this is not an off-road truck.it has had conservative road use.fortunately, i was not towing my 8000 pound trailer at the time. I recently sold a 1972 chevrolet which had never required any brake line replacements.why are these relatively new trucks brakes all failing?

Brake lines and fuel lines completely rotted.

Pushed brakes and the pedal went to the floor. I had to use park brake to stop. The brake lines are rusted with large hole in them.

The truck is primarily used for towing trailers. Once in 2012 when towing a 10k lbs travel trailer a rear brake line that appeared solid developed a hole and released any hydraulic pressure. The truck was safely stopped and repaired. August of 2013 while towing pwcs on a trailer another line that appeared to be solid brake line developed a hole and leaked out the break fluid. Truck was safely stopped and is awaiting repairs.the truck appears to have an abnormal amount of rust on the brake lines brake components frame and suspension components for the age of truck. Front and rear brakes were replaced 3 times due to rust also. Body of the truck has no rust or damage to it.

Steel brake lines to abs control and other steel brake lines rusted through and leaking, must be replaced before brakes fail.

Went to get safety check, mechanic noticed brake fluid leaking from undercarriage and noticed leak in brake line. Brake line corroded and rusty with puncture.

Unloading my boat, brake peddle went down to floor, didnnt know what happened, no light appeared on dash, secondary breaks didnt work either, held with parking brake.

Driving to pick up my son from work on side streets, traveling about 25mph when my brake went to the floor.almost rear ended car at stop sign. Got out of truck and found large spot under my truck, brake fluid. Had it towed to brake shop and mechanic informed me my brake lines were rusting though and needed toreplace all brake lines. Also told me he has seen this with 3 or 4 other chevy trucks lately. Found other complaints after telling my story. Heard this is a known problem with these trucks..i bought this truck new & have had it rust proofed 12 times. Thank you

I was driving down the road when all of a sudden the brake pedal went to the floor. Come to fined out one of the brake lines rusted out.

Brakes failed suddenly.we were lucky that we were only going about 20 mph. Brake light did not come onand still does not show a problem.rusted brake line ruptured and brake fluid comes out when the brakes are applied. I just sold a toyota 1995 4wd that has been exposed to the same environment and there is very little rust compared to the chevrolet.it looks like to me that all the lines should be replaced.i have not yet had it repaired.this could have cause a very bad accident.we are not driving until it is repaired.

Brake lines rusted out causingvehicle to loose braking ability andan accident with minor vehicle damage..

Was backing out of the driveway and when i tried to stop the brake pedal went all the way down and i had no brakes.there was no warning whatsoever that i had a braking problem.when i looked underneath the truck i could see that the brake lines are very corroded and one is leaking.it looks like they will all need to be replaced and the truck will probably need to be towed in to have this done.it sounds like this will be a very costly fix.i bought this truck new and it has always been garaged and well taken care of.

After dropping off a boat for winter storage, i was leaving the storage location and attempted to apply brakes and the pedal dropped to the floor. I had to take a very slow route home as the brake pedal continued to drop to the floor anytime the brakes were applied. In a couple of instances when the brake pedal was pressed hard, the abs system did activate. Finally had a chance to pull this vehicle into my garage for examination on 11/8/13 and found the brake lines under the drivers' floorboard at the frame-rail extremely corroded to the point of failure of one of the five lines. The others are most certainly not far behind. This vehicle is mainly used in the winter months. I am grateful that the problem surfaced now before the snowmobile season when i am hauling a 24 foot trailer with four passengers and four snowmobiles on roads that are not in the best shape to begin with. This could have been a very bad situation to say the least!gm needs to fix this issue before someone is seriously injured or worse - these obviously are not isolated incidents.*** please note that there has yet to be a single warning lamp to come on after applying the brakes at least twenty five times - no mil, no brake, nothing! ***i will be taking a complete series of pictures of the condition of these lines before the repairs are performed if they are needed for this complaint.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet silverado 2500.while driving approximately 5 mph on normal road conditions, the contact heard a loud grinding noise when the brake pedal was depressed.there were no warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they stated that the failure was related to the antilock brake system.the vehicle has not been repaired.the contact was concerned of the safety risk involved.the failure mileage was 51,000 and current mileage was 53,000.

Upon braking pedal went to floor. Rusted, pitted main brake line from master cylinder to abs pump. No brakes. Line repaired. When bleedingbrakes another line burst. All lines very rusted and pitted. All replaced.

100% brake failure on 2002 chevrolet 2500 hd. Pedal went completely to the floor while driving unexpectedly. I managed to pull off the main highway onto a side road and stopped with the emergency brake. Dealer indicated brake lines were rusted through and is in process of replacing. Vehicle was purchased new with only 63000 miles.

The power steering pump shaft has failed. As a result the vehicle's brakes failed and steering became impossible. Please provide additional information. *nlm

Abs slow stop activation, a common complaint with chevrolet trucks and suv,s, chevrolet has refused to fix the problem although it is well documented and some models recalled for the same defect.

When stepping on brakes at a low speed, i have very little braking. Few times caused me to come very close to vehicle in front of me. Looked up on internet problems for this vehicle & found recall 05068c. Called chevy & they said vehicle does not have recall for brakes.

Brake line failure near abs module inside frame rail under drivers door; failed in owners driveway; used emergency brake to stop; inspection of brake lines indicates severe rusting of all lines in that area.

We have just had 27 feet of front brake line replaced for the second time in our 2002 chevy silverado 2500 series.two years ago lost brakes and luckily avoided an accident.gm dealership replaced, and the line failed yet again last week.this time my 19-year-old son was driving with a passenger.luckily, he avoided the cars in front of him at a stop light by crossing two lanes so that he could slow the vehicle down on the grassy roadside.refused to take to gm for repair this time.something has to be done about faulty chevy brakelines in early 2000 chevy trucks before someone loses their life.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet silverado 2500.while driving less than 20 mph, the contact depressed the brake pedal and the abs light illuminated.the vehicle slowed down, but did not come to a complete stop.the brake pedal extended to the floor, but the vehicle did not stop properly.through online research, the contact found nhtsa campaign id number 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock); however, her vin was excluded because she does not live in one of the affected states.the contact believes that her vehicle should be included in the recall since the failures are identical.the vehicle has not yet been repaired.the current and failure mileages were 119,000.

I own a 2002 chevy silverado 2500 hd 4x4.in the past couple of months my abs has been activating at low speeds for no reason (conditions dry with no water and ice).it causes me to slow earlier than normal to prevent stopping too late.i have been researching this and it appears that it may be covered by a recall (pe05020).i live in maryland and am not yet sure if my state is covered.i bought my vehicle second hand from a chevy dealer 6/29/04 and have not received a recall notice (i have received others in the past).filing this and contacting my dealer in case nhtsa thinks md should not be covered.the failure occurs daily and causes longer stopping distance.

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet silverado 2500. The contact stated that all the brake lines were rusted and corroded.while driving 15 mph and depressing the brakes, they went all the way to the floorboard.a mechanic inspected the brakes who advised that the brake lines would need replacing. The brake lines were not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure.the failure mileage was 915,000. Updated 10/26/11 updated 10/28/11

2002 chevy 2500hd 72k miles original owner... Rusted brake lines. Pedal went to floor and couldn't stop. Thank goodness i was in the driveway of my house. At the dealer right now to be repaired. Please see internet to see how many thousands of people that this has happened to .. Urgent ..why is this not a recall someone is going to seriously get hurt.. We leave on a country road with a lot of turns and bends... Again thank god i was in the driveway.. Help!!!!!!!!!!

2002 chevrolet silverado 2500.attorney representing consumer writes in regards to engineering analysis of faulty brake lines that failed.

Gm wants me to pay for a recall repair on my vehicle.

Brakes failed to stop the truck (brake pedal goes all the way to the floor in an emergency situation) i took the truck back to the dealer and they found the hydro boost to the brakes to be leaking fliud. They replaced the part, it helped the brakes some but did not take care of the problem. The problem is when you are on a pothole or washboard road and use the brakes the pedal will go all the way to the floor and will not stop the truck at all. When you stop on a smooth road the brakes seem to work fine. Tthe only other thing that is a real concern to me is when you are just sitting in the truck wether it is running or not you can push on the brake pedal with little effort and it will go all the way to the floor. I have taken the truck to two different dealers to try and get my problem solved. The mechanics agree that it shouldn't do what its doing but can't find the problem. There are times when it is dargerous to drive the truck .

When the brakes were applied, the pedal traveled to the floor, and the vehicle failed to stop.

2002 chevy hd ext cab. I took my pickup to a gm dealer because i knew there was a recall for this issue.they told me that my pickup was not included in the recall.the brakes shift into abs when coming to a stop all the time.it is clear that their is an issue with the abs braking systems in pickups in the northern regions due to salt, stated in the recall for newer models.i called gm customer service and they told me that the 2002 pickups are not yet included in the recall.this is a safety issue that should be resolved by chevrolet.please help!!

Anti lock brakes activate at low speeds on dry roads and increase stopping distances. This issue is addressed by recall 05068a and05v379000. My vin is listed however the chevrolet dealer that i went to advised that it is not covered under the recall. I am concerned that an accident will result from this defect.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet silverado 2500. Whilebraking from the speeds of 8 mph, the anti lock brakes engaged and caused an unusual increase in stopping distance and time. The contact located a recall for the failure however, the dealer advised the recall was limited to specific states only. The contacts vin was not included in the recall. A diagnostic was performed which determined the failure to be caused by the right abs sensor. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 84,000.

2002 silverado k2500hd, antilock brakes engage under 15 mph. Have done this everytime i stopped since i bought it 1/11/08. I am told there is no recall on my truck, just the 1500 silverado. Truck is doing the same thing as the recall for the smaller truck.

Purchased vehicle 8-25-01- brakes where unalbe to stop vehicle.

Dt:the brake rotors pitted, corroded, rusted, andflaked.the brakes have been serviced, and the mechanicsaid that other rotors have been corroding as well.the rotors don't show signs of a problem until the metal has worn down.the consumer contacted general motor and said the were very rude.

I have a 2002 chevrolet 2500 4x4. I noticed the rear brakes were getting very hot. I pulled the rear wheels and noticed the rotors had rust pits in them which i believe caused the brake pads to wear prematurely. The front pads and rotors are fine. I had the rear rotors machined and replaced the brake pads.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet silverado 2500.the contact stated that the front rotors are rusting.the rear rotors also rusted, but they were replaced under warranty.the current mileage was 27,129 and failure mileage was 14,000.updated 09/29/08. *lj

The power steering pump failed causing the power steering and brake systems to fail at the same time.the garage stated that the power steering pump shaft broke.they replaced the power steering pump.the garage said that they have repaired several vehicles with this problem and are starting to see more of these failures.the garage did a fine job on the repairs.however, this could be potentially be a very, very dangerous situation, especially in heavy traffic or at higher speeds.thought you should be made aware.sincerely, [xxx] dtinformation redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Steering wheel preventsconsumer from seeingfog light button.there is a dome over ride button. Also, headlights come on intermittently.dealership is aware of problem.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet silverado 2500.while driving 5 mph in reverse, the power steering failed.the contact shut off the engine and has not yet taken the vehicle to the dealer.the current and failure mileages were 46,000.

Dt: while driving at about 60 mph and the consumer stopped to perform a turn.after completing the turn there was a loss of brakes and power steering. The consumer was able to drive home.this happened without warning, no previous occurrences. The consumer self diagnosed the issue as with the power steering pump.the consumer took apart the power steering pump, and the driveshaft of the power steering pump was broken .the consumer felt this may be due to poor casting or undersized in design.the consumer has not replaced this at this time.the consumer contacted both the gm dealer and manufacturer.they were not willing to pay for any repairs.no repairs or corrections have been made at this time.the consumer repaired the vehicle himself.

The power steering pump shaft has failed. As a result the vehicle's brakes failed and steering became impossible. Please provide additional information. *nlm

The tie rod has broken twice in the last four months.the most recent was on 7/19/2003.vehicle is currently being repaired.

My daughter climbed up on the tailgate of my 2002 chevrolet pick up and was standing up when the cables broke. The tailgate dropped and she fell to the ground landing on her tail bone.she was not seriously injured but was very stiff and sore and couldnt hardly walk for 3 days.

I was loading my cargo into my 2002 chevrolet hd2500 and both the tailgate cables broke spilling me and my 4-wheeler on to the ground. I was not hurt, but it was very dangerous.

The cable on one side of my chevrolet pickup gate broke causing the gate to fall onto the bumper.after purchasing a new pair of cables from the dealer i noticed that the gate was not properly aligned causing the weight of the gate to be placed all on one cable.i alerted the dealership to this problem which they looked at and suggested that i could make some adjustments to the tailgate to fix the problem.i tried to make an adjustment but could not get any movement in the tailgate so i am still driving with the problem.

While driving front left wheel assy. Separated from truck causing me to crash. Truck was a total loss.

While traveling at 30mph front of vehicle suddenly collapsed. Took vehicleto dealer, and they stated that mechanism that holds tire fell off.

The undercarriage. The rocker arms the brake lines are and have been rusted out. Its a rusted out frame. This needs to be handled and recalled to all gm owners . This is a costly time consuming matter for individuals to handle. Gm should step up to the plate and handle these issues. Karma hope u dont need bailing out again i bet this issue alone and gm not helping by doing right thing will cause tremendous hurt to u im sure youve list akot of busuness from this.

Truck will have erratic operation with truck not holding speed when cruise control is used.the owner states that the power module interacts with speed with set speed 2 mph slower after truck is accelled.please describe details ts

Consumer states that when setting the cruise control for selected speed, the vehicle will not stay at that selected speed.the consumer stated that other drivers seem to be irritated, when the vehicle in front of them and starts to slow down for no reason.the consumer feels that this is dangerous.the consumer also stated that this is particularly distracting in night or heavy traffic.occasionally the cruise control doesn't at all.scc

The defroster kickes on in the middle of driving, since i got this truck. I will be driving down the rd, and all of the sudden my windshield fogges up very rapidly. Last time, a semi was behind us and my wife and son were with me. We were almost killed!!!my warranty was very short lived since this was used when i bough it. My wife, and son also drive chevys & gmc.i have taken it to dealers but they say i have to pay 100's of dollars to repair it, then it may not be repairable that it is automatic.we will never buy gmc or chevy again. It isnt even safe to drive in this vehicle!it happens all the time!

Consumer states that gm has upgraded the extended mirror for towing.gm has informed consumer that the upgrade was in feb. Of 2002 and that consumer purchased the vehicle too soon for the upgrade.*jg

The owner purchased an optional package that related to the extended tow mirrors.on this particular truck the mirrors do not come with "fish eyes" on the passenger side.the owner was told that his truckwas not part of the upgrade for the 2002 which does provide fish eye on both sides.please describe details.*mr

I drove my truck under normal driving conditions; primarily commuting to and from work (highway miles).at ~ 66,000 miles, front left hub assembly started making intermittent noise and noticeable vibration in steering wheel.the hub/tire/wheel assembly had noticeable amount of play when i inspected it during a recent tire changeout.ultimately, the hub assembly internals failed and the lubrication escaped from the seal.it is my opinion that if left unchecked, the hub could lose all lubrication and either freeze up, fall apart or catch fire.it is not normal for a hub to fail after only 68,000 miles.dealer confirms this by telling me that they've not seen many if any 3/4 ton trucks come through with this type of problem.i suspect that the part was defective from the manufacturer, but cannot prove this.i would be happy to let the nhtsa take it apart and inspect it and hear of their conclusion.i am already out the $400+ dollars to fix this problem.chevrolet customer "dis-service" would not admit to any responsibility when i offered to meet them "half-way" and pay for the labor if they would pay for the part.if the nhtsa would like to inspect the part, please feel free to contact me.thank you for your website.i hope no one else has the same problem as i've had (with my truck and gm).thanks for your time and feedback!
