Vehicle was involved in a front end accident, the airbags experienced no deployment, dealer found the airbag module was damaged internally.
My son rear ended a semi-tractor trailer truck in a snow storm last week.he was wearing his seat belt.air temps previous week were in the -20 to -40 range.temperature at time of accident was -15.i raise this as indicated below.my concerns are:1.the air bag did not deploy.there was $6000 damage to our 2004 chevy k2500 crew cab pick-up to include grill, radiator, both quarter panels, hood, bumper and forward engine components.the impact speed was estimated at 25 mph.that should have deployed the bag.i realize that there were no injuries and my insurance would have covered the bag, but i think (as did everyone else who have seen the damage) that the bag should have deployed.2.abs system failed.truck rear end slid to right toward traffic.my son was able to regain control.choice of impact was either into on coming traffic, off road down deep hill into forest or rear end truck.note:other owners in area of the 1999-2000 pick-up series have also had abs system failed.local dealers are aware of failure around 100,000 mile mark but say that it is normal.abs light is now on.side note - we have had repeated problems with this vehicle and have taken it to different dealers.problems include ongoing short in electrical system in cold weather, 4 wheel drive fails to disengage although light on dash says it has (discovered at local repair shop), computer failure on dealer installed equipment (not covered under warranty because it was an option).
My husband craig was in collided head on into the side of another vehicle doing about 35 to 40mph. He hit the front hard enough to total the front end of the truck and shove the engine back several inches. The frame is also bent.we believe the truck will be qualified as totalled.dispite the force of the impact, the air bags did not deploy.craig had his seat belt on so was only bruised and sore after the accident.we are conserned with the airbag failure.what if there had been a passenger or cercumstances would have required them?
Total electrical system shutdown due to failure/activation of passlock security system on 2000 chevrolet k2500 crew cab (7.4l engine/automatic/4x4) while vehicle is being operated at highway speed. Engine can not be restarted without bringing vehicle to complete stop and placing shifter in "park". Loss of life, serious injury, and/or loss of property can occur during performance of bringing vehicle to complete stop without engine power available.incident occurred twice and without warning on 8/29/03 while at highway speeds. Dealer attempted repairs on 8/31/03 with guidance from chevrolet technical assistance. Suitability of repair not guaranteed by dealer. Owner requested dealer to disable passlock system. Dealer could not disable system and informed owner that chevrolet corporate would not provide dealer with information on how to service, repair, or disable passlock system. Dealer and chevrolet technical assistance determined that ignition switch could be at fault and causing voltage cutoff to passlock, thereby activating passlock. Dealer replaced ignition switch.owner took possession of vehicle and drove 475 miles at which point complete electrical failure occurred on 8/1/03 and at highway speed. Vehicle was able to be restarted after bringing to complete stop, putting transmission in "park", and tightening battery positive electrical cable. Apparent cause of passlock activation was loss of battery voltage. Original diagnosis made by dealer and chevrolet technical assistance incorrect - ignition switch not at fault.repeated attempts by owner to contact chevrolet customer assistance center on operational parameters of passlock system and disabling instructions unsuccessful. Owner notified by chevrolet that "we (general motors) will no longer address additional messages on this subject." dealer cooperative, but also unable to assist further.*nlm
Truck had hard time starting when cold for 2 weeks prior to truck not starting at all. Took truck in was told fuel pump shorted , melted wire harness and fuel pump module melted. Half of engine compartment wire harness melted also. Was told by mechanic we were very lucky that the truck did not explode. This is to cost $1800.00 in repairs.
The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet ck 2500.while driving 72 mph, the fuel gauge moved from empty to full.the gauge showed that there was a half tank of gas in the vehicle; however, the engine shut off and was out of fuel five miles later.the contact filled the vehicle to capacity with fuel and was able to drive to his destination.the vehicle was not diagnosed by a dealer.the failure is related to nhtsa campaign id number 06e043000 (fuel system, gasoline).the failure and current mileages were 232,000.
While driving consumer noticed flames onback window and the bed of the truck. Consumer was able to get the kids out and left vehicle, and the whole truck blew up. Consumer felt if they had of been 10 seconds longer they would not be here today.
Upon startingthe vehicle consumer noticed a knocking noise coming from the engine department while driving for 45 seconds to 1 minute everyday. Dealership was unable to determine the cause.
When the driver attempted to stop the vehicle the brakes failed and the driver had to use the emergency brake to slow the vehicle.when the driver turned in a driveway he saw smoke emitting from he engine compartment.the fire department arrived and extinguished the fire.the vehicle was a total loss. *ph *nlm

Exhaust system failed.
Exhaust manifold bolt heads broke off on my 2000 chevy silverado 2500 truck 6.0.
Exhaust manifold bolts are failing.have two bolts on drivers side were the head has popped off the bolt and now there is a major exhaust leak.
2000 chevrolet 2500 6.0 engine exhaust manifold warping causing the main bolts to break off leading to exhaust leak and possible fire.
The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet silverado 2500. The contact stated that an abnormal odor entered into the vehicle cabin accompanied by an unusual noise from the engine. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was advised that the manifold bolts were fractured. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 43,000. The vin was not available.
Large intake leak, antifreeze leaking into the oil milked oil. When ichecked the oil i found this so started looking for other problems. I put a pressure test on the radiator and found the leak immediately! the antifreeze came out from under the front edge of the #1 cylinder!i am very up set to hear that this is very common and would like to see g.m. Recall their trucks for this problem! i repaired the problem myself. If i had to pay some one to fix this problem it would have cost in the range of $700-$900.

The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet k2500.the contact noticed fuel on the floor underneath the vehicle.when he pulled the fuel tank from the vehicle and removed the plastic cover, he noticed that it had collapsed and split the seam open on the tank.there were no warning indicators prior to the failure.the dealer was not notified.the manufacturer stated that there were no recalls for the issue.the current and failure mileages were 82,823. Updated 09/13/08.*lj the evaporator canister was filled with dirt and debris and caused the fuel tank to collapse from the vacuum, which split the gas tank at the seam and released all the fuel.the fuel tank, fuel pump and evap canister had to e replaced. Updated 09/17/08.
The fuel tank collapsed and fuel leaked onto the ground.the mechanic stated the fuel tank needed to be replaced.
While driving, vehicle stalled.consumer tried to restart vehicle, but was unable to do so. Consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that the fuel pump shorted out, causing a spark.the mechanic replaced the fuel tank and wires.
Rusted out brake lines caused loss of fluid while driving.rusted out fuel line caused fuel leak while driving.
Just backed into the st. Clair river to retrieve small boat.loaded boat.as i put my foot down on brake pedal to move transmission to drive, brake pedal went to floor, got the trans to neutral, but not to drive.the truck and boat started to roll into river.panic situation... Jambed trans into drive, and was able to get truck out of river, with water line half way up drivers door.once home discovered badly rusted brake line above fuel tank ruptured.repaired...two months later, while wife was driving truck to work, brake line between master cylinder and abs modual failed. Had enough! replaced all brake lines on truck except the one over rear axel. I still willd o that one also. Abs/brake lights on dash are still illuminated.still trying to figure out that issue..many discussions with other silverado owners, and autoparts employees.this seems to be a very common issue, with very dangarous potential for injurys..
Automatic transmission failure requiring complete rebuild @ 61150 miles. Year: 2000 silverado 2500 shortbed, 2 wd w/5.3l l460 transmission.
We are buying a 2000 chevrolet silverado 2500.we have had the transmission replaced once, and it is having problems again!we've taken it in to the dealer, who says there is nothing wrong with it.they also said this twice before the transmission went out the first time.now it's acting up again, and they say there is nothing wrong.i'm sure it will go out again, it's just a matter of time.i also know someone with 2002 chevy truck, and they have had their transmission either checked or replaced already.my concern is that the transmissions being used are not heavy-duty enough to last.i'm worried, because our extended warranty is running low, and i just know that the transmission will go out after the warranty is up.if the transmissions being used are not the correct one for this truck, i think a recall should be issued.it is not fair for the buyers to be stuck with this problem.check the stats at your dealerships... I'm willing to bet that there are a lot of trucks being looked at for this same problem. Also, when we took the truck in the last time, we noticed a difference in power.it seems that the truck does not have the power it had before, especially when towing or loaded.we are wondering if the dealer could have "turned the engine down" to compensate for the transmission?if so, this is still not fair, because we bought that truck for it's power, not to have it turned down just to make the transmission last.please advise us on what we can do.again, if you check the dealerships, i'll bet you'll find a lot of trucks being serviced for this problem.thank you,[xxx]('parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).')
On 09/27/2000 i was slowing down for a dip, with my foot on the brake. As i crossed the hit the dip and/or just after the dip, i heard a noise come from the left front drivers side of truck. At the same time the left front of truck dropped a little. I was still rolling and didn't think anything was wrong, so i rolled on about 100 ft. To a right curve. When i tried to turn the vehicle it only turned from a 2 oclock position to a 4 oclock position. Truck went into ditch, and stopped on the other side. The front wheel was broken off with lug nuts, studs, and other pieces of metal still in the left front tire under the truck. When the wrecker came, i got into the truck to try to guide it as they pulled it out. I put my foot on the brakes before i tried to start the truck, and there was no brake pressure at all. The brake pedal went all the way to the floor. The tie rod had snapped at the knuckle, but 80 % was shine and about 20% was tarnished and grease looing like the tie rod had been cracked a long time. On your search engine site for recalls the only 3500 is listed as 3500hd. In the year 2000 chevrolet didn't make a 3500hd. They only made 3500's that had some heavy duty equipment on them, such as heavy duty transmission, etc.
Trans axle boot was replaced.
Back seat doesn't lock up at all in a stop.seat pushes all the way up to the front.
Within a residential neighborhood approaching a stop sign at 30 mph +/- and applied brakes evenly and smoothly.pedal went to the floor and limited braking available.proceeded cautiously to a park 2 blocks east.parked and inspected vehicle.found brake fluid leaking drivers front at upper back of caliper.limped vehicle home, placed on stands, pulled wheel and found metal end of flexible brake line adjacent to the hollow bolt that connects to caliper was now multiple layers of rust saturated with brake fluid.ordered in a replacement line and replaced.old line retained and excess rust flaked back to reveal a pin hole rust through roughly 1/2 inch above caliper mounting point.residual braking at time of failure was not capable of stopping a vehicle quickly in traffic or at highway speeds.three or four years prior rear steel brake lines under bed failed during a panic stop when deer ran into the roadway.rusted lines were the cause but under high pressure panic stop conditions.not a gentle stop as the line above.
Driving at 65 mph, needed slow down for sudden traffic jam. Applied brakes and pedal sunk to floor. After brake pedal hitting the floor, finally had some braking power but nearly piled into vehicles in front of me.brake fluid running out of vehicle. Repair facility identified abs brake line rusted through and had to be replaced, which i visually verified. At no time prior to, during or after the line failure, did i receive any abs warning light that the abs system had failed.
Went to move the truck, brake pedal went to the floor.left rear line has a leak where the line runs along the frame by the fuel tank.about 2 years ago i had to have the front lines replaced because they were leaking.
Steel brake line ruptured while braking going down a steep hill with approximately 1,000# of cargo. This is the third such incident of a ruptured/leaking line on this truck. All lines were original equipment before failure. Brake pads/discs were replaced and rotors machined between the first and second brake line failure. The emergency brake was used to successfully stop the vehicle.
I had just picked up a trailer at u haul and was driving down the hill in front of their store to finish signing the paperwork. At the bottom of the hill i began to apply the brakes and the brake pedal went to the floor. I came close to running into the u haul building but the truck finally stopped just in time. I put the truck in park and got out to see what happened. I went to the front of the truck, looked under and saw nothing. I went to the back of the truck and looked under and there was fluid steadily dripping and a huge puddle of brake fluid under the truck. I disconnected the trailer and called a friend to pick me up. Once i got the truck home, i began searching for the source of the leak (at this point i thought i had busted a brake hose) i quickly realized this was not a brake hose that had ruptured. The brake line that runs past the gas tank and rear differential was rusted through and had a hole in it. All of the brake lines were rusting in the rear of the vehicle. I took a picture of the line with the hole and went off to the chevrolet dealership. Once at the dealership, i was told by the young man working the parts counter that chevrolet did not sell replacement brake lines. He told me that i would have to buy bulk brake tubing and make my own lines. I let him know that the line that ruptured on my truck had over 20 bends on it and that the last four bends would be very difficult to bend by hand. I got nowhere with chevrolet on replacement parts. I wound up ordering new stainless steel lines from inline tube. I replaced all the brake lines. While taking the fuel tank out so i could install the new brake lines......it was discovered that all of the fuel lines were rusting also. I replaced them as well. Chevrolet should not be using subpar materials for anything. Poor quality brake and fuel lines will get someone seriously hurt!! shame on chevrolet:(
My oldest son was driving my 2000 chevy 2500 pickup truck when the brake pedal almost went all the way to the floor of the truck. He narrowly missed rear ending the car in front of him. He was able to drive very slowly home with a very mushy feeling brake pedal. When i inspected the truck i found that the brake lines had rusted so bad the brake line had ruptured and was leaking fluid under the drivers side door.
When coming to a stop sign i applied the brakes and the pedal went to the floor. I was able to steer into a parking lot and coasted to a stop. I had no brakes front or rear.when i stopped at the previous stop sign the brakes worked as usual. After having the pickup towed to a repair shop i was told and shown that the brake lines at the frame behind the left tire had rusted through. This failure came withno warning and at no time did the dash brake light come on.
Traveling on road at posted speed of 35mph approaching a highway intersection. Tried to make a normal stop and brake pedal went to the floor. Truck went through red light and through intersection of a section of highway that is 8 lanes wide. If not for early time of day it would have been a lot more traffic and killed someone. Stopped truck by slamming into park. No brake warning light prior to this or after.
Brake line failure in lines to the abs electro-hydraulic control unit.loss of braking experienced.
Steering locked up brake quit working.in motion
The brake pedal went to the floor, due to a hole in the brake line caused by external corrosion. Luckily it was not at a stop street, or there would have been an accident. It occurred on the highway, so my wife was able to slowly drive home. I had to have all of the steel lines replaced for the vehicle to be safely driven again.
The hard line brake line started leaking fluid out.
I have problems with my brakes and steering when i am braking and turning right or left. Thepower steering completely go out . I have to use all me strength to turn the steering wheel. Onceyou complete the turn and let off the brake the power steering comes back the steering wheel jerks back in place. I have replaced the booster, supply lines on brakes, power steering pump and supply lines and truck stills has same problem. The mechanics tell me that it is a design problem and chevrolet will not recall and repair. All owners of these trucks need help as this is a very dangers problem. I have just seen on the news that chevrolet is recalling a lot of vehicles and my model needs to be recalled and repaired also.
I was driving approx. 25 mph within 100 ft. Toward a red light. A truck pulling a trailer pulled across the road in front of me. I pressed on the brake pedal. The pedal held for a second and then quickly dropped to the floor. I was able to swerve to the right of the truck, missing it and pushed the emergency brake. Realizing i encountered total brake failure i cautiously drove the truck into a mcdonald's parking lot at the corner. There was no brake warning light come on. I looked under the truck. On the drivers side under the drivers door the underside was soaked with brake fluid. Where the 4 brakelines are bundled together directly on the frame under the drivers door, one of the brake lines has a split in it. The truck is presently being evaluated for repair.
The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet silverado 2500. While driving 30 mph, the vehicle took a long time to slow down when the brake pedal was depressed. On another occasion, when barely depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle completely stopped, causing the contact to jerk forward. The contact associated the failure with nhtsa campaign number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic). There were no warning indicators illuminated. An independent mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 325,400.
Hydroboost leaking power steering fluid affecting steering and braking performance.dipstick for measuring p/s fluid level was dry, and fluid stains all over the firewall and master cylinder resulting from the p/s fluid leaking.
The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet k2500. The contact stated that while at a complete stop with the brakes depressed, the brakes failed without warning. The vehicle was taken to a repair shop where the contact was advised that the brake lines were corroded. The brake lines were replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to take vehicle to the dealer for repairs. The vehicle was not taken to dealer. The approximate failure and current mileage was 130,000.
Rusted out brake lines caused loss of fluid while driving.rusted out fuel line caused fuel leak while driving.
The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet silverado 2500. While entering the driveway, the brake pedal sank to the floor. After inspecting the vehicle, the contact indicated that the brake lines rusted to the point of corrosion and fractured. Also, the contact noticed the presence of brake fluid leaking from the vehicle. The contact was able to park the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced all four brake lines. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 216,563.
Backing out of my driveway, i stepped on the brake pedal and a stream of hydraulic brake fluid hit my wife.a brake line had burst and i completely lostbrakes.i had vehicle towed to the dealer they charged $650 to replace the rusted brake line that had burst.now i have lost brakes again 6/21/13 another leak from a rusted out hole in the brake line. I purchased this truck new in 2000 and it has remained in florida the entire time.we have no road salt, we have no snow.how can you build a vehicle with brake lines that rust out?.please help and recall this dangerous problem before innocent people get killed!
Steering problem. Power steering goes out when slow down. Chevrolet is very aware of the problem and there is currently a recall on the later model vehicles. The 2000 we have is very dangerous and we have reported it numerouse times and wonder how many tragic accidents have to happen before it is corrected?
I am unhappy that gm made a recall for the problem my silverado is exhibiting however since i do not live in the neighboring state i cannot have my problem fixed. I also live in the "salt belt" being in kansas, i live 20 miles from the state of mo. I am having the exact problem as the recall - 05v379000. I wish i knew who i could contact to aid me in solving this problem. It sounds like this results in a crash due to constant corrosion. If you look at statistics of kansas city. We are equivalent to kansas city mo. I'm feeling very frustrated about this.
The hydraulic pump shaft broke the evening before very common on these trucks and chevrolet did a limited recall. After replacing the pump the rear main brake line was rusted and could not handle the pressure of the new pump.
My brakes failed without warning in a parking lot.carefully, imade it home with no brakes and found the brake lines were all corroded and leaked brake fluid. Brake lines are supposed to be made from non-corrosive material.fixing brakes on this model pickup is a massive undertaking.one brake line is located under the bed of the truck.when the consumer examined the brakes on the vehicle, he was shocked to see the extent of corrosion on the meal brake line. He was also shocked to find that for one of the brake lines, he had to remove the truck bed, in order to see it. The first rupture occurred on the line running from the metering or proportional valve to the rear brakes. There was no way he could see that area. The second failure occurred during bleeding and testing of the first repair. The third leak appeared by the movement of the line during the second repair. All were due to corrosion in what should have been non-corrosive material. The consumer stated the location of the brake lines and the materials used were totally unacceptable and he is seeking reimbursement for parts and labor.updated 06/29/12.
Consumer states that while driving and no warning the brake caliper are grinding together causing extend stopping distance. Dealer notified. Mr
I was driving my 2000 chevrolet silverado 2500 pickup and pulling an empty 16\' cargo trailer, and started to decend a 8% grade hill. I had the trans in tow mode and started applying the brakes to slow from approx 50 mph, as i was going to turn at the bottom of the hill. The brakes first held and then as i held brake pedal pressure constant the pedal went to the floor. I quickly realized i was in trouble and pulled the trans to 3 and then 2. Thank god there was no one in front of me making the same left turn as i, as there was a steep tree lined hill to my right and it would have been catastrophic at that point. I stepped on the emergency brake and got the truck stopped but missed my turn by approx. 100 feet. I recovered my composure and after a few minutes stopped shaking enough to limp my truck home using the emergency brake and 2nd gear. I was approx. 2 miles from my home on a country blacktop road. When checking out the truck brake lines found them to be extremely rusty and in one place split. I replaced that line only to fail a 2nd line while bleeding the brakes in my driveway. After replacing the 2 lines from the master cylinder to the abs module and the 2 lines from the module to the front wheel cylinders, i again ventured out only to again lose my brakes on the downgrade of my driveway again, which was the last straw, and i replace all the remaining lines. Pedal is still mushy but the brakes are holding and not leaking fluid. I am the 2nd owner of the truck and put maybe 3,000 miles a year on the truck. I also own a 1997 automobile which has over 300,000 miles and never had a brake problem and the brake lines show very little rust, and i drive this vehicle all winter while i might use the truck a half dozen times during adverse conditions. I believe gm is at fault here by putting cheap steel brake lines on their trucks, probably as a cost reduction since they
Brake failure due to corrosive brake lines. All brake lines need replacement. Other brake components have show problems due to corrosion such as brake calipers - adding to stopping distance - and abs sensors - vehicle would slow to 5 to 10 mph for a second or two prior to stopping - dealer replaced brake lines at my cost - will supply vin number later if possible.
Lost brakes, brake lines rusted and lost fluid.
Brakes on my 2000 chevrolet 2500 pickup failed because of the brake line rusting through. Service center said it happens all the time with these trucks. A ten year old truck with 33,000.00 almost killed me. That in a word is not right.
Truck lost ability to stop effectively. Truck was taken to local repair shop. Mechanic found brake lines had ruptured from corrosion. Brake lines were replaced.
All of the brake lines in my 2000 chevy silverado are completely rusted out.i have had the brakes stop working after a brake line ruptured with no warning on two different occasions.
Chevy silverado pickup, year 2000, brakes failed due to ruptured brake line, that were totally rusted out. Got lucky....happened in driveway. Brake lines had to be replaced.

Failure of steel brake lines resulting in loss of braking on 2000 silverado 2500 4x4 pickup truck.
Driving silverado, depressed brake and brakes failed.i was traveling slowly so luckily there i didn't strike anyone.i immediately stopped, and noticed that there was fluid dripping from under the driver side passenger compartment.i took the silverado immediately to the gm dealer andwas told my brake lines where rusted, and one was rusted through.i have never owned a vehicle that had rusted lines.this is a failure due to cost cutting measures by gm.using a bare steel tube that is susceptible to rusting is total irresponsible.such an important part should not be designed to fail.
On 11/23/2011 at 6:45 am est, i was headed down a snow covered road when i noticed a plow truck coming towards me at a high rate of speed. I then hit the brakes at normal pressure and the pedal went to the floor with next to no resistance, having no brakes i downshifted the automatic transmission slowing me but not fast enough, i collided with a fire hydrant at the top of a steep embankment on the side of the at approximately 35mph and knocked the fire hydrant out of the ground. Had the fire hydrant not been there, i could've fell more than 50 feet down to my demise. Luckily, the hydrant was shut off and the only damage (because the plow frame absorbed most of the impact) was the front bumper. I have had to pay $75 just to have the line patched good enough for the truck to be drivable, with imminent failure of the rear brake lines across the rear axle and the front brake lines to the front brake calipers. I have had this problem with both my chevrolet silverado 2500 (model year 2000) and my chevrolet silverado 1500 (model year 1999).
The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet silverado 2500. The contact stated that while driving at low speeds and depressing the brakes, the pedal would go straight to the floor. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and they advised her that they were unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 26,500. The vin was unavailable. Updated 2/21/12
2000 chevy pickup anti-lock brake kick in and had complete loss of brakes and truck accelerated into vehicle in front.
Truck lost ability to stop effectively. Truck was taken to local repair shop. Mechanic found front steel brake lines had ruptured from corrosion. Brake lines were replaced.
The main brake line from the master cylinder to the antilock unit rusted through and leaked causing the brakes to fail.
Brake system failure due to brake line corrosion.third time this has happened.first two instances were on the rear lines due to exposure to salt spray.recent occurrence was located at the retainment clip holding the two lines running downstream of the master cylinder to the frame rail.both lines rusted through and began leaking.lines started leaking when brakes were applied in icy conditions.abs system engaged and the added pressure lead to line failure.vehicle continued into intersection due to reduced brake function.fortunately did not result in a crash.
Hard brake line failure on driver's side.soft pedal and increased stopping distance.exorbitant corrosion of lines.all metal lines need replacement on inspection.also excessive rusting of entire underside of vehicle.
While driving my silverado approaching a stop sign at 25 mph, the brakes failed without warning, a car in front of me already stopped there!i had swerve around by going on the sidewalk and use the emergency brake to stop, thank god i didn't hit that car or any pedestrians.i noticed brake fluid dripping from frame above left rear wheel &rear axel.i had the silverado towed to the gm service center to inspect the brake lines; $99.00 plus tax gm service center saidbrake lines where rusted through and would be $1,012.98 plus tax! to repair leaking lines.i believe this ifailure is due to gm not utilizing stainless steel brake lines.
The brake lines have corroded and leaked fluid out and it caused complete failure of braking system. There were no symptoms giving warning to this failure.
2000 k2500 pickup. Have had the brakes and rotors replaced twice and now needs a 3rd time. Truck only has 40,000 miles and can not keep brakes and rotors on it. The second time the dealer finally told me gm had a problem with these brake issues and now are giving me the run around to get the brakes done the 3rd time.
For the time in 4 months, my 2000 chevrolet k2500hd full sized pickup truck has experienced brake failure due to rust-through of a brake line. The first failure point was located near the right front wheel in the vicinity of the metal line to rubber hose connection, in the exact location where the metal line runs between the frame and the electrical connector for the antilock system's wiring to the right-front wheel sensor.today's failure is located in the engine compartment directly under the master cylinder. The actual leak is in a section of line that is not obscured by any mounting points. It is out in the open and fully visible when looking into the engine compartment while standing in front of the vehicle.several other sections of brake line appear have major rust issues also. This truck has 45,454 miles on it. The original brake master cylinder failed at 26,xxx miles. The vehicle's warranty had expired, so i was responsible for this repair. I have noticed the brake fluid in the reservoir of this vehicle has a history of turning to a dark color within a short period after a brake fluid flush, even after the replacement master cylinder was installed.i have never been satisfied with the stopping power of the brakes on this truck. I am the original owner, and since the truck was new i always felt the brakes had a very "spongy" feel. Even when new there were a few occasions when i experienced 'am i going to be able to stop' scares.i must now have the truck towed to a repair facility, to have the entire system of brake lines inspected and replaced as necessary. Obviously the truck is not safe to drive until this is done.
The brake lines failed on my 2000 chevy silverado 2500. The vehicle was backing down a boat launch ramp at the time and was stopped with the parking brake. The truck had to be towed and all of the metal brake lines replaced (the brake lines had to be made because gm does not sell replacement line).
2000 chevrolet 2500 pick up truck - third occurrence of significantly reduced braking ability due to corrosion of brake lines.prior occurrences of brake line corrosion leading to significantly reduced braking ability occurred in oct 2007 and aug, 2009 (same problem - different brake line sections).
When the driver attempted to stop the vehicle the brakes failed and the driver had to use the emergency brake to slow the vehicle.when the driver turned in a driveway he saw smoke emitting from he engine compartment.the fire department arrived and extinguished the fire.the vehicle was a total loss. *ph *nlm
Brake failure due too rusted through (defective lines) steel lines leaking brake fluid causing loss of pressure to apply brakes as designed; on under side of vehicle fluid us sprayed without warning. Occurred while on downside of mountain with light pressure on pedal.
Antilock brakes in front activating when not supposed to. Campaign id: 00v055000. This was fixed once and is now recurring. Dealer will not fix again. Very dangerous!
Brake line failure, left side behind wheel where lines run on top of frame.while in the drive thru lane at fast food restraint. Nearly pinned pedestrian between my truck and the vehicle in front of me.
Brake line leaking fluid.wife stepped on brakes and rolled through intersection of highway k and highway n in st. Charles, mo.the line that failed is in the bundle along the frame under the drivers seat.all the lines show signs of rust. I understand this is not the first occurrence.just glad she did not hit anyone or get injured.hope you quit dragging your feet on this issue and make the car company that the usa is invested in fix their brake problem.
We are experiencing unwanted abs activation at low speeds giving us no braking when activated. This vehicle has been serviced on !0/28/05 for abs recall #05068 at 75,484 miles this problem is re occurring for the last 18months. The vehicle now has 115,000 miles. I,ve noticed a new recall out #05v379000 for this issue. This braking issue was once in a while now to be every day and almost every complete stop. Could the manufacturer be required to fix this issue again at no cost to us? it does appear to us that gm fixed the issuethe first time but not the problem, that caused the issue.
Purchased a used 200 chevrolet silverado k2500 4wd. The anti lock brakes activate at 7mph while stopping. It occurs at every stop. The dealer replaced the speed sensors per the recall which did not solve the problem. The dealer tested the vehicle after the fix and found it still failing. Now gm won't do anything more and my truck still has faulty anti lock brakes.
My 2000 chevrolet k2500 silverado has 60,000 miles. The rear brakes do not function as designed. The interior brake pad, on the disc breaks, only come in contact with the rotor for 1/2 of an inch or less. I couldn't figure out why my anti-lock brakes engaged all the time and i think it is because an undue amount of braking pressure is placed on the front disc brakes as the rear brakes are clearly not engaging properly. I had midas review the brakes and they claim this is common. The rotors have to be replaced because all they do is rust since the brake pad hardly touches the rotor. I called my dealership who also said this is common. Have there been any investigations into chevy truck accidents and how the brakes function? do chevy truck owners even realize their 5,000-6,000 pound trucks, often used for towing, are not stopping as they were designed to stop? why hasn't there been a recall? who can i have inspect my brakes to confirm this common brake defect before i have them replaced?
The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet silverado 2500. The vehicle was being serviced for the anti-lock brakes recall. One of the brakes, due to the others not being defective was damaged. Two years later, the same defect occurred on the remaining brakes. During the previous recall repair, all of the brakes were not serviced due to the dealers specifications. The dealer stated that since he has already used his recall, he is required to pay for the repair, although the other brakes were not a part of the originial recall. The manufacturer stated that they would do an investigation to determine if this is a concern of theirs. The contact did not agree to any charges as it relates to any recall. Gm's recall notice id: is 05068. The failure mileagewas 75,580. The current mileage is 95,000.
Dt: the contact stated t when applying brake pressure at low speeds the abs activated followed by a squeaking noise.he took the vehicle to a dealer, who cleaned the wheel speed sensors.there was a recall on the anti lock brakes, but the contactdidnot live in a salt belt state.however, the vehicleexperienced the same problemas indicated in the recall.no further repairs or corrections have been made.11/29/2005 -
Consumer 2000 chevrolet pickup has a safety defect in the antilock brake system.the consumer contacted the manufacturer about the abs recall and he was told that his vehicle was not included due to vin.
Why does gmc not do a total recall on the vehicle they sale and they pick the states where they want the recall to take place. In utah we use salt on the roads and yes we do get snow remember the winter olympics of 2002 this is not right for them to pick and choose states. If it a recall on brakes it should be nation wide not just the one's they feel is right . This puts my family at risk of serious injury . I have a 2000 chevy pickup .. Please help.
I have a 2000 chevrolet, silverado 2500 pickup trucki bought new. With about 125,000 miles . 2 months ago i started having a problem.whencoming to a complete stop the brakesgo to the floor, make a horrible noise and then the truckthrusts forward. The past two months this problem has been very sporatic. As few as 3 times a weekas much as 10 times a week. One time i was stopping at a side road waiting to enter a higway and the truck stopped then thrust forward into the traffic. Fortunately i did not get hit but cameclose to a accident. The way to stop it is by throwing it into park. Yesterday i stopped in front of a customers garage and went through the garage door as the truckthrust forward. I contacted the chevy dealer andhad the master cylinder replaced. No good.then was told it was the power booster. Not that. .today they say it is the sensor in one of the wheels. Will replace tomorrow.i do not understand how that will stop it from thrusting forward. I have spend much money sensor alone costing 600.00 and the garage door 760.00my biggest worry isfear of thrusting forward when at a cross road.the car dealers and general motors hot line said their is no prior report . I hope its the sensorbecause everytime this happens youpanic . It is very costly and could cost me my life. I also think that more concern from the manufacturer could be taken . I do not know what to do if this sensor does not work as they say this is the only code that came up when put on a machine. They put it on the machine because sometimes the abs light comes on and i had to get it to the dealer when it was on as they could not check it unless it was on. This was difficult as the dealer is 30 minutes away.if you have every heard of this problem before i have to spend more unnecessary monies or before i get hurt. I would appreciate any information you could give me.thanks rich .

When applying the brakes, the pedal sunk to the floor broad. Fluid level low. Lost fluid in aproximate 1800 miles. This caused a crash on 4/16/2001.
When brakes were applied they did not hold. Driver hit a deer. Dealer cannot duplicate problem.consumer states that the brakes fail intermittently.
4 times i have had this vehicle to the chevrolet dealer.brake system is a safety hazard. When i apply the brakes the whole front end shakes and vibrates causing loss of control of the vehicle. Has not been repaired.
The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet silverado 2500.on june 14, 2007, at 84,000 miles, the contact took the vehicle to have the brakes serviced.the mechanic found that the back side of the rotors were completely rusted, except for a half inch of pad.the mechanic stated that this caused the contact to lose one wheels worth of combined braking.all four rotors had to be replaced, totaling $468.49 in repairs.the current and failure mileages were 84,159. Dt:the caller saidbrake lines rusted. He believed the rear brakes were affected.dealer said there was a problem with rust and corrosion. Manufacturer offered no help. The first failure was repaired , and the second time therewas a different section.
While in motion, consumer was making a a left turn when the a popping sound was heard and immediately the steering went out.consumer tried to apply the brakes but nothing happened.vehicle was taken to the chevy garage and the vacuum pump had to be replaced.*jg *dt
My 2000 chevrolet silverado k2500 , vin [xxx], purchased in december 1999, had a hydraulic power, loss resulting in immediate loss of power steering and brakes. I was able to secure the vechicle and call a tow truck and towed to delership. Nhtsa has a recall 05v-005000 for this model and year, however it does not cover my vin. Contacted gm to see if they would repair this under the recall and they refused. It appears there are more vechicles with faulty power steering pumps than the recall covers. Request you review this recall. The pump will be replaced and i will request the removed parts be saved for me.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)
Steering problem. Power steering goes out when slow down. Chevrolet is very aware of the problem and there is currently a recall on the later model vehicles. The 2000 we have is very dangerous and we have reported it numerouse times and wonder how many tragic accidents have to happen before it is corrected?

Hydroboost leaking power steering fluid affecting steering and braking performance.dipstick for measuring p/s fluid level was dry, and fluid stains all over the firewall and master cylinder resulting from the p/s fluid leaking.
When making a right turn only, the steering wheel dropped from a 15 degree turn to 45 degrees. The dealership indicated this was caused by a failure in the steering speed sensor.
Truck starts vibration at 42mph, vibration then comes into the steering wheel and then hold truck vibrate.
While parking vehicle in driveway, power steering broke and lost all braking ability. Had no prior warning of any problems. Contacted dealership/service manager and manufacturer.was informed steering and brakes on same system.power steering pump was replaced due to a broken shaft in power steering.
While drivingat any speed, especially at 55 mph steering wheel won't stay straight, and will pull tosides, causing consumer to lose controlin many ocassions.
While pulling out of the driveway steering column failed.this caused consumerto lose steering power because the steering shaft snapped off the pump. Consumer contacted the manufacturer.the driver will contact the dealer in the near future.

Front end seems to be wearing out front tires more than usual.this may cause problems.dealer cannot determine thecause. The steering wheel was misaligned and has grinding noise when turning.the rear end vibrates when trying to slow down.
Person following me indicated other rear tire appears separating also.
I was driving intothe driveway at home and noticed a noise behind chevrolet 2000g high top conversion van.i didn't see anything initially from the rear view mirrors.i later discovered thespare tire was lying in the street.the steel cable that held it up at the bottom of the van broke completely.i was lucky it happened in our driveway.if we were going down an interstate it could cause a serious accident if someone were following me very close.i wonder if anyone else have reported this incident.there appearedto be no other mechanism attached to keep the spare tire from falling off.i now have a new one on order.if the safety departmentwas interested i would ask the dealer to keep that steel cable that broke.

The mirror on the right side of the auto has blind spot that does not allow the driver to see cars that are along side just to the bed of the truck.dealer has no solution gm has no solution.these are the trailoring mirrors for when you pull a trailor.if you well notice they corrected the drivers side by adding small mirro within the larger mirror.the potential is fatal if you are pulling a trailor and you are unable to see a car along side your vehicle.it need to be fixed.
