Service air bag light on - srs system not functional.

I have a 2003 chevy silverado pickup with 71937 miles today just driving down the road on the dic display it put a message out of service air bags and red light is on dash also. I called the chevy dealer where i bought it and they told me it is out of warranty and i would have to pay for repairs and oh he said the air bags would not work until it was repaired. All the forums i have read so far say that the problem after they have it repaired still comes back. Is this not a safety issue that should be covered by gm ?

The speedometer and tachometer were acting erratically, speedometer would read 110 mph at normal highway speed, the tachometer would read 0- 1000 rpm at normal highway speeds, had to send cluster for repair. Main grounding strap was broken due to excessive corrosion and replaced after being towed to dealer.air bag service light is on intermittently while driving, problem to be resolved.

My speedometer never goes below 20mph even setting still and when i'm moving it reads 90 plus even if i'm going 40 mph. When the truck is turned off it still reads 20 mph.

Ignition switch locks up occasionally and makes the abs service brake light come on.

Instrument cluster suddenly losing power and going off and on. Research on recall states recall is only good up to 70,000 miles and 2003 chevy 2500hd has 82,000 miles on it.

Drove vehicle and noticed fan blower was not working, located fuse for blower, pulled and verified fuse is ok.put fuse back in checked blower and fan was working.the next day my husband drove the vehicle for approx.10 min and smoke started billowing out from under the dash (pass. Side). He turned around, came home and we used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire under the glove box and also covered by a plastic covering not quickly able to be removed.disconnected the batteries and removed the cover exposing the wiring.we can see the wiring and relay that have melted.called gm (11/3, 9 - 10 bus. Days to respond), the vehicle is over warranty coverage, because i don't feel that a 5yr vehicle should just catch on fire.gm responded with a denial because of ma laws but i live in me so they are looking into it again with the cs rep that handles me.meanwhile i do not have a vehicle to drive.have an issue with taillight burning housing and daytime running light comes on and off.socket looks burnt, light bulb is fine but does not consistently work.have also had the speedo issue - gm fixed, replaced front hubs my cost, & replaced glow plugs.now trying to determine if i'm having same tranny issues others have reported.so far not so impressed.have reported fire issue to my insurance co. To document problem.until truck is plugged in it is impossible to determine extent of damage.

I have a 2003 chevy silverado 2500 hd that has problems with the speedometer, battery, fuel, and temp. Gauges. If that's not a safety problem, what is. There are thousands of people like my self that cannot afford the repairs. Think about it thousands complaining of the same problem but nothing is done. Thats thousands of people on the road that do not know how fast they are going and when there car is going is going to run out of gas or worst explode.

The issue i'm reporting took place in my 2003 chevy silverado 2500hd vin: [xxx] but the vehicle itself was not at fault. The problem was from a everstart maxx battery serial# jch1600480782 manufactured by johnson controls inc, sold by walmart. I noticed a problem on 7/25/2017 after driving my vehicle on the highway when needing to use the windshield washer to clean insects off to improve visibility. When i used the control to activate the windshield washer nothing happened. After arriving home i attempted to fill the washer fluid but it was already half full. I looked underneath the truck and noticed leaking washer fluid. I thought maybe there was a leak somewhere so i investigated it. To get to the washer bottle the battery must be removed and when removed it was evident that the battery was leaking acid everywhere. Some acid did get on my clothing and ate through it but thankfully none made contact with my skin. The battery sits above the washer bottle, pump, lines, and battery tray - all of these components were destroyed by leaking acid.i have been in contact with johnson controls inc, the maker of the battery and they seem disinterested in what happened. I have saved all damaged parts, receipts, and correspondence so far. In the following pictures you will see the white corrosion from the acid leak and the parts that were destroyed leaving the windshield washer inoperable while driving and reducing visibility. I'll also include a picture of the shirt that came into contact with acid when lifting the battery out and the holes it ate through the fabric.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

A friend was driving my truck in a residential neighborhood. He was only going 20 mph when the gas light came on but the needle said it had half a tank. All of a sudden the radio locked up and all the needles on the dash started going crazy all the emblems on the dash lite up. We parked and turned off the truck. As soon as we went to turn back we had just started it not even 3 minutes later all of the gauges and lights on the truck it started freaking out again and now the driver side mirror and window control would no longer work. Earlier that day i had taken it in a reputable shop to get the truck smogged and get it checked out. The truck passed smog and they said the truck had no problems. This was the first time it had ever done anything like this.

Tailgates cables needs to be replace it....

It was first in winter of 2006 that it first happen, the speedometer showed that i was going 20 mph when i stopped the truck, but it reset itself when i went and started it the next time, and i thought that was strange i had about 60k on the truck.in the summer of 2007 got letter saying that if interment panel gauges become inoperative to bring it in, as long as the mileage is less that 70k, i checked and mine was 77k so didn?t bring it in.this malfunction didn?t happen again till the winter of 2007 when it happened about a dozen time, this time took it in to see if they would replace it, but they said it was over the limit, (70k) and it would cost me $550 to replace. I believe thatit is a danger for gm to have vehicle being driven on the highway that are not operating safely. *red.

Intermittent failure of instrument/gauges cluster causing unknown driving speeds and unable identify possible engine problems and un able identify fuel level. Intermittent failure occurred for two years until totally failure occurred.

While returning home from a 2 week vacation (30 miles from home) slowed downto make a right turn on a city street in woodland, ca, the truck just shut down, no steering, no brakes, no engine, total electrical shutdown. It was everything i could do to make the turn and pull to the right. At the time i was pulling my 2009 bighorn fifth wheel trailer. It was a scary time.i finally stopped, lucky there was no cars parked on the right near the curb.i put the transmission in neutral and restarted the engine. Then we continued the trip home to winters, ca.i took the truck to imler diesel in sacramento tocheck the engine out. They replaced the injectors which we had agreed to do prior to making the two week trip. The next trip was to bodega bay on january 14, 2014. We traveled about 100 miles. Again we were pulling our fifth wheel trailer.slowing down from 55 mph to 15 mph, preparing to make a left turn in doran beach park at bodega bay, the truck shut down again.i came so close to hitting a tree. Oncoming traffic stopped just in time as the speed limit at 55 mph seemed to see what was happening giving me time to restart and move off the highway.my wife and i were both shaken up a bit, but also feeling very lucky not having a crash.we continued home 4 days later.we parked the truck.the mileage was 143579 at the start of the trip and 143819 at end.i have not used the truck since.i do not feel it is safe to drive.i was lucky twice, don't know if i want to risk a third try.looking back, the shutdown did happen two other times but i was not pulling the fifth wheel trailer, i can't remember the dates.chevrolet lt 2500 hd 4x4 diesel 2003 truck.

Normal 55-60 mph drive on interstate to work.speedometer began to stick at 45 mph even though vehicle was going faster.speedometer needle now moves in a jerky fashion slowly up & slowly back down.noticed online that seems to be a re-occurring problem with 2003 chevrolet vehicles and still no recall.i will not pay $1000 to have this problem fixed.chevrolet needs to step up and acknowledge their problem and have a recall.my vehicle is a 2003 chevrolet 2500hd crew cab 4x4.

I have a chevy silverado 03, 2500hd and i believe there is a defect in the heater blower motor resistor and wire harness that connects to it. I recently changed a blower motor resisterback in september, now here is december and the same resistor had blown again. So i replaced with new one, and now the wire harness that connects to it is heating up to appoint that you can smell burning wires. I had called my local dealership and they tell me that they seen this problem on a lot of gm vehicles and want to charge me $160 to change the bad wire harness and blower motor resistor. I don't under stand why this is not recalled for possible being able to start a fire underneath the dashboard. Please look into this before a serious accident occurs. Thank you

Driving down highway gauges fluctuated, stopped working as wellas speedometer.called gm they said it is out of warranty, cost aprox 600.00 to repair.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. While driving approximately 40 mph the speedometer began to display a speed of 10 mph. As a result the vehicle was involved in a crash. Apolice report was filed.a passenger in the other vehicle was injured. The vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop where the body damages were repaired but the failure was not diagnosed.the contact also stated that the fuel gauge and the speedometer intermittently displayed an improper reading. The failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 104,000. The vin was unavailable.

When driving the truck whether on a regular street or at high speeds on the highway, the engine suddenly either dies, reduces down to idle speed or idles very roughly.the reduced power signal comes on, along with the engine light.this has happened to us, several times while driving on the highway and on regular streets.we were extremely lucky not to have been killed.i researched this and found that many owners of the 2003 chevy silverado 2500hd had the same problem.we spent a lot of money at penske chevrolet, and according to them, they don't know how to fix it. We bought the truck in 8/2013, without any warranty and this problem was not disclosed to us.since 12/2013, the problem has become more frequent and now we don't drive the vehicle because it is just too dangerous. There has to be some way to fix this problem and the chevrolet company has to know about this because there are so many complaints out there.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. The contact was driving 45 mph and applied the brakes but the vehicle failed to immediately decelerate, increasing stopping distance and time.the abs warning light was illuminated sporadically prior to the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the instrument panel was replaced. The brake line was also repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 26,000 and the current mileage was 41,500.

The 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd "reduced engine power" displays on the dash.this causes the vehicle to lose power at any time.this happened back in february, took it into the dealership for service, and they replaced the throttle body housing.i was driving the vehicle after the housing was replaced, and lost power 2 more times before i could get it in for service.took it back to the dealer, and they replaced the electronic throttle component.i received the message 2 more times.took the truck back, and they replaced the computer.same problem.the truck is at the dealer now.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd.while driving approximately 65 mph, the driver's side air bag suddenly deployed.the sudden deployment hindered the contact's visibility, along with the smoke and powder that emitted from the air bag.he attempted to open the windows and noticed that all electricity in the vehicle was lost.he could not unlock the doors or roll down the windows.the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure and stated that it was not covered under warranty.the contact would be responsible for the repair costs.the manufacturer has not been notified.the current and failure mileages were 162,462.

Gauge cluster malfunction reduced engine power

At about 80,000 miles brake failure due to rusted through brake lines.a leaking fuel line was replaced due to rust. Grounding cable to the engine block needed to bereplaced due to excessive corrosion. Exhaust system from engine block to tail pipe has been replaced, including both manifolds, due to rust. The front and rear bumpers are rusting through. None of these defects have resulted in any accidents.

Instrument cluster failure.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd.when the contact started the vehicle, she noticed that the abs warning indicator was illuminated on the instrument panel.the instrument panel became inoperable and she could not read the speedometer and other gauges.the dealer replaced the instrument cluster panel at the cost of $1,383.on a separate occasion, the instrument panel failed again, including the fuel gauge, speedometer, and warning lights.the dealer stated that the instrument cluster panel failed a second time.the repair would cost over $1,800.no repairs have been performed on the vehicle.the failure mileage was 74,417 and current mileage was 128,880.

All gauges quit working. They will work every no and then.

At freeway speeds i noticed the oil pressure had dropped to almost 2 out of 10 on the pressure gauge.i stopped as soon as possible and let the engine cool for 20 minutes.i checked the oil level and color.it was ok in both respects.after another 30 minutes i restarted the engine and continued home.i watched the pressure gage for another hour and saw the pressure reading continue to fall to a dangerous level but there was nothing i could do.the next day i took the truck to the chevy dealer in el centro, ca 92243 for their analysis.they said it was only poor oil and needed changing.i let them service the truck as they wished.they also scanned (swept) the gauges and changed the oil and sent me on my way.the next day it did the same thing.i did not return to the dealer as i was not prepared for an argument.

1. My silverado 2500hd, 2003 speedometer stopped working around 70k miles, 3 years ago.2. At the time i was told it would be $525 to fix it - replacing a small plastic gear in the dash.i decided not to waste the money and lived with it.3. In january 2008, i received a letter from gm saying the broken speedometer for my truck was a defect and it would be fixed at no charge if i was with in 7 years old and 70k miles.4. I took my truck into esinger chevrolet in kalispell, montana on may 28, 2008.they repaired the speedometer and billed me $414.85, on 5. My truck had 118,735 miles on it so esinger would not cover it under the recall program.i would like to request that gm reconsider this decision since the speedometer broke 3 years earlier and it was around 70k miles.it is known there is a problem with the speedometer and i feel it should have been repaired at no charge. Your consideration of crediting me the $414.85 would be much appreciated.i have been a long time owner and buyer of new chevy trucks for the last 20 years.sincerely, randy wilson

When i turn the left turn signal on, it sometimes works and sometimes it doesn't.sometimes it turns both turn signals on like the hazards.if i have my cruise set and use the left turn signal, it shuts the cruise off.tr

2003 chevrolet 2500 headlights and instrument panel lights will illuminate while vehicle is parked and turned off. Mechanic is unable to identify the problem.

I've had it less than 1 year, and has under 90,000 miles. I left my house and got 1/4 mile down the street and the entire cab of the truck filled with smoke. Had to call 911 and have the fire department come to the scene. An electrical fire above the head liner killed the electronics in the entire vehicle. No lights, power seats, radio, dash cluster, external lights and signals, horn, windows, nothing works, engine wont start. The fire appears to have started next to the on star speaker in the headliner.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. The contact stated that the entire instrument panel and gauges failed to operate. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for a diagnostic testing. The technician stated that the instrument panel cluster would need to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 171,000.

2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd 4x4 6.0l has a speedometer that malfunctions.general motors is saying the problem lies in the stepper motors in the speedometer cluster itself.general motors is not fixing this problem on their vehicles for free.

We own two chevrolet vehicles that are experiencing the all too common problem with defective and/ or erratic operation of speedometers. One is a 2003 silverado k-2500 h-d with approx 87,000 miles. We have owned this vehicle for 2 years this month, and the problem started just after bringing it home. It was bought used, so problem may have been around for much longer. The second is a 2003 tahoe lt with approx. 67,000 miles. This vehicle was purchased used also; in may 2008. The speedometer began malfunctioning in fall 2009. This is apparently a very common, and potentially seriously dangerous problem. We feel this is a manufacturer defect in material and workmanship, and not an expense to repair that should be wholly the responsibility of loyal vehicle owners. Who should be responsible if this causes, at best only expensive citations, and at worst possible fatal or serious accidents?

Needle on speedometer freezes in winter. I do not know my speed!

2003 chevrolet silverado gauge cluster hang ups speedo gets hung up and gives faulty readings.

- the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd.the speedometer registered 120 mph even when the power had been turned off.the failure mileage was 60,000.the contact had an appointment with the dealer/manufacturer to have the problem diagnosed.the current mileage was 63,000.updated 04/05/07

2003 silverado instrument cluster is failing. First, 2 yrs ago, it was the tach failing now it is the speedometer and the others are not functioning correctly at times. I did receive a letter from gm 2 weeks ago went to the dealer, they would not do anything because i have 87000 mi on it. Call gm and they said it is up to the dealer. That doesn't sound right! is there anything that can be done? did gm put it to us again?

The speedometer in my 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500hd suddenly stopped working.the normal speed shown now is over 120 mph while moving or stopped.on rare occasions the speedometer will register a lesser speed for a short period of time but the normal speed shown is 120 mph or higher.the odometer works without a problem as well as all other electrical functions of the speedometer other than actual speed.per my most recent contact with a general motors dealer service department (mr. Goodwrench) that dealer is seeing an average of one similar vehicle per day with the same problem.not knowing the actual traveling speed of the vehicle will certainly lead to traffic accidents and injuries if this has not already happened. I've now had two estimates to repair the speedometer.the first estimate was in 12/2004 and the estimate was $1,000.00+ and approximately 6 weeks in the shop.the 2nd estimate was in 12/2006 by an out of state dealer (who says he gets one new repair daily) and the cost was approximately $500 but it would take several days to determine what component part was needed and since i was traveling interstate on a year end vacation i couldn't wait for the repair.this dealer suggested someone should contact your office because they felt a non-operational speedometer was a major safety problem with the potential for severe injury or death.

I have a 2003 chevy silverado 2500 hd duramax 4-dr that the speedometer just started going intermittently whacko on with the last year (conveniently just outside of normal warranty)judging from all of the posts i see scattered across the internet about this it is cleary a manufacturers defect and should be recalled asap.

Speedometer sticks, displays incorrect speed. Unable to determine correct speed.have not fixed yet. Happened 1 week after warranty expired.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. Whiledriving approximately 55-60 mph he noticed that the speedometer was no longer working and displayed zero. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who was diagnosing the failure when the complaint was filed. The instrument panel was replaced in 2007. The manufacturer was called and stated that there was nothing they could do to assist with the repair cost. The failure mileage was 140,000. The current mileage was approximately 150,000.updated 01/28/11*ljupdated 02/07/11

I filed the formal request below to chevrolet / gm regarding a defective speedometer in my 2003 chevrolet silverado.this is a well known and a well documented problem, and i believe it to be a severe nationwide safety issue which needs to be addressed to avoid possible injury or death.general motors will not repair the problem.some information is removed to meet the word limit of this complaint form.gm service request:71-482347989silverado safety hazard - a problem i amexperiencing with my wife's 2003 silverado 2500 hd is extensive and dangerous. The speedometer is often stuck at random speeds when at rest, and when in motion is unreliable.information that i have reviewed on several sites indicates that there is a known problem with the stepper motors in the instrument cluster that handle all gauges on this vehicle, and that there are several tsbs that are related to this problem in several gm vehicles. Nhtsa also has several dozen, if not hundreds of reports of this problem.there are also several petitions in progress to demand recalls and / or media investigations. Although my vehicle is out of warranty, this appears to be a defect worthy of a recall.we specifically traded up to this vehicle because wife hauls a horse trailer with two or three horses through mountainous terrain to horse events for her, my daughter, and my daughter's friends. The safety implications of unreliable gauges are many-fold, whether it is gathering too much downhill speed because of an incorrect speedometer, running out of gas while towing a loaded horse trailer down a steep slope because of an incorrect gauge, overheating the transmission or engine because of an incorrect temperature reading, etc.there are several sources of information documenting this issue.a few examples are as follows: (most examples removed to meet word limit):http://www.topix.net/forum/autos/chevrolet-silverado-1500/tr5qab2mn19bl1d2j/p4

Intermittent failure of instrument/gauges cluster causing unknown driving speeds and unable identify possible engine problems and un able identify fuel level.intermittent failure occurred for two years until totally failure occurred.

During normal highway and or city driving, the speedometer will register a rate of speed higher then actual. This speed has been recorded as anywhere from 5 to 50 mph high. When the speedometer is reading high, upon stopping, the speedometer will remain at the amount of speed that it is registering high. For example, if traveling at 30 mph and the speedometer reads 50 mph, when the vehicle is stopped, the speedometer will still read 20 mph. Once this problem starts, it is very consistent on its regularity. A simple solution is to repeatedly turn the vehicle off and restart it. The speedometer will drop 5 mph with each cycle until it reaches 0 mph. However, the problem will likely reoccur on the trip that i am about to make. My coworker is having the exact same problem in a very similar vehicle. Upon contacting the service department at my local dealership, i was told this problem had been seen on other occasions and the solution is to replace the instrument cluster at an approximate cost of $600.00.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd.while driving 70 mph, the speedometer increased to 115 mph and remained in that position.as of february 8, 2008, the dealer had not inspected the vehicle.the current and failure mileages were 71,236.

One day gauge clusterabruptly stopped working while i was driving on the freeway. And speedometer showed a reading of 0.0 mph.

I bought the truck in november in 2007, i had the truck approximately a month and the speedometer started bouncing around and in about a week later it stuck at 117 mph and has not moved since. Then at about 110,000 miles the entire instrument panel would go out, all the gauges and the odometer, the signal lights and the back lighting still works, but nothing else the fuel gauge, oil gauge, transmission temp gauge, tachometer none of these will work now. I would just like to know how it is that this is a huge over all problem of the vehicles in the certain year, and model. But the vehicle does not have less than 70,000 miles the manufacturer will not stand up to the mistake and fix it, i understand that i bought it used but its and on going problem in the cluster for hundreds of thousands of vehicles, i think it should be handled by gmc. I have owned 8 gmc vehicles and use to think i would not by anything else, but my mind is about to change over this issue. Because of the attitude i have gotten from the dealerships and employees about the issue.

Speedometer reads 42 mph in the driveway. 120+mph on the highway.2003 2500 hd silverado 47,000 miles.

The instrument panel on my 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500hd has quit working.there was not warning that it was going to fail.while driving all the needles across the panel were stuck at zero.no speedometer, gas gauge, tachometer, temperature.i believe this could be a very hazardous condition and should be investigated.

Clunking noise from steering column.1st failure at 25,000 mi and dealer replaced shaft.2nd failure at 50,000 mi and gm refused to replace or pay.i had to pay for some new lube kit to prevent noise and wear.

I have a 2003 chevy 2500 h.d. Crew cab truck. In aug of 2007 my speedometerstarted acting up. It would stop at 20 mph when i was at a dead stop. I can start the vehicle and it will go down 5 mph for every time i start the vehicle. When i hit 0 it will be fine for a while. It is getting worse every time i do it. From reading on the internet i'm not the only one!

We were driving home from a football game when we noticed we were apparently driving faster than the speedometer stated, it read 65mph,but the rpm's did not match and we were blowing past other vehicles on the highway and from that point had to guess how fast we were traveling.this has happen a few times and now the speedometer does not work at all.gm sent out letters stating a possible instrument panel gauge needles may stick, flutter or become inoperative & may cause inaccurate readings.gm refuses to recall or fix our vehicle/truck for free-they claim too many miles, i have proof this has happen to other trucks with miles at on or about 40,000, 90,000 and our vehicle at or about 147,000 at the time it malfunctioned. It is apparent that this is a safety issue and the malfunctions occur at various mileages on these trucks and gm will not repair our vehicle at their cost.the trucks in question are year(s) 2003,2004 & 2002 chevy silverado. It is very dangerous to drive our truck and not know how fast we are traveling.

Erratic speedometer readings.driving on the interstate at 55 mph with cruise control engaged.posted speed limit increased to 65.used the cruise control to increment my speed.speed increased, speedometer reading did not increase, but kept getting lower.stayed with speed of traffic but speedometer reading slowly fell to 35 mph.stopped, shut off the vehicle and waited 5 minutes.upon restart, speedometer appeared to be functioning correctly.got back on the interstate and up to 65 mph.when i decelerated while exiting the interstate, the speedometer remained at 65 mph.parked in my driveway, the speedometer reads 65 mph.when driven, speedometer increases immediately from 65 mph and higher.

While driving down the interstate on cruise control, the speedo will start to climb to over 120mhp.after several ignition cycles the speedo will come back down and work fine for awhile.this problem usually occurs while driving on the interstate.problem is very intermittent-has happened several times and always corrects itself before i can get it in for repair- i have talked to several other owners with the exact same problem- the first time this problem occurred the truck only had 30,000 miles on it. Dangerous problem---when towing heavy loads.

Speedometer does not indicate proper speed. Can be at 0mph when traveling at 55mph. Or can be at 30mph when traveling at 55mph.

Speedometer displays erroneous speeds, usually too fast.

I own a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. In august 2006 my oil pressure gage started to malfunction. It would intermittently read no oil pressure even though the oil level was adequate. I took the vehicle for a fuel system servicing to a gm dealer in san antonio tx and asked them to check the oil pressure problem. The service manager stated the problem was a pressure switch. I asked it to be repaired along with the fuel system servicing. At the time my vehicle had approximately 65,000 miles. The service department failed to attempt a repair on the oil pressure gage even though the other items were repaired. I elected not to let them keep my vehicle longer to affect the repair. Approximately 2 months later i took the vehicle to another dealer and asked it to be repaired. The service manager informed me the actual problem was the instrument panel. It would cost approximately $700 to replace. I elected not to have it replaced due to the cost. At this time my vehicle had 71,000 miles. In the summer of 2007 my speedometer started to malfunction by displaying the wrong speed or sticking at zero. I again took the vehicle to the dealer who again said it was the instrument cluster. Shortly after, i received a letter from gm stating this was a known issue and it would replace or repair the malfunction free of charge on any vehicle with less than 70,000 miles. I contacted my local gm dealer to see if my vehicle could be repaired under this since it originally malfunctioned when there was less than 70,000 miles on the vehicle. The service manager contacted gm and then told me they would not since my vehicle has more than 70,000 miles and gm does not consider this a safety issue. My vehicle currently will not pass a state of texas safety inspection because the speedometer does not work.i am making a complaint because i believe this is a safety issue and should be a full recall.

2003 chevrolet silverado 2500hd speedometer doesn't return to zero when stopped.registers inaccurate readings as much as 60 mph off.

Speedometer reading way offbounces up and down.

Engine will fail to start.second time with problem 10/21/06.replaced fuse to crank relay fuse blows immediately.made the truck useless for several days making travel to work hectic.same fuse controls turn signals as well.

With my 03 chevy silvarado 2500 hd this reduced power engine light comes on.shuts the vehicle off to 30 mph.this happens on a regular basis.does not matter where your driving.especially on a highway.the truck will jerk one way or the other then u have no speed no control for a little bit .very dangerous.have to pull over when you gain control shut the truck off.then wait about a couple minutes then start the truck and off il go.happen about 5-6 times a day now.this problem can not be fixed, even if you go to a dealer they will replace all the sensors for the throttle you will spend a small fortune and the problem still persists.this is a serious problem and a very dangerous problem and happens to many of these trucks.look it up on youtube or google it.im very surprised not to see this on the complaint board.please if you have this problem post it so it can be recalled.i travel with my dog all the time and if something happens to him it would be very traumatic to me.what if you have children or guests in your truck.its wrong that this issue is not being addressed.i have complained to this company and also to chevrolet to no avail.im worried someone has to be hurt bad or killed to have this matter taken seriously.wow the truck has a recall for the tailgate wires.the bumpers are crapp and rusty junk but no recall there as well.please take this serious and all complain about it cause this is very dangerous.i hate this and i refuse to spend money on some defect in the electrical system.this needs to be recalled an absolute must.i know im not the only one so please post your complaints about this reduced engine power light that randomly comes on without warning.i know you would not want to be towing with this problem.also you will not be able to resell this vehicle honestly.you will have to lie to someone and if they get hurt or you get sued that will not be good.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, he noticed a ticking sound from the vehicle.the noise became louder and the contact later discovered that the bearing and timing chain were damaged. Additionally, the transfer case did not contain any fluid. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for further inspection. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 195,000.

The exhaust manifold bolts are breaking creating a fire hazard from the hot exhaust reaching the wiring harness, it is also creating fumes in my cab.first noted a noise a week ago, found it to be a exhaust leak and the leak has gradually gotten worse. I am unable to not drive to the truck due to work.

My 2003 chevy 2500 hd has an exhaust manifold leak and this is an ongoing and chronic problem with these vehicles. I can see evidence of hot exhaust gases leaking into the engine compartment.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, a loud noise emitted from the engine compartment and the engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic who informed the contact that the exhaust manifold had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 79,000.

The exhaust manifold bolts are breaking on the 6.0 engine.i think gm should do this repair since i have talked to several people and this is very common. It is a design defect as far as i am concerned. I have put up with this as it started as a small leak but is getting worse.

We were traveling east on i-90 in mass. Traffic came to a sudden stop. When the brakes were applied the truck began to slow and then the brake pedal went to the floor. Upon investigation after the crash we found at least two badly corroded brake lines that had burst.

While driving, the check engine light comes on and "reduced engine power" is illuminated on the dash. Stepping on the gas does nothing. The vehicle just coasts along and runs rough. I have to pull over and shut it off for a few seconds. Sometimes it doesn't clear the problem right away and needs to be restarted several times. There is no rhyme or reason as to when this happens. It happens almost every day, on busy expressways or on main roads and side roads. The gas pedal loses communication with the throttle body. This is nerve wracking when driving 65 mph on the expressway and all of a sudden the vehicle wont respond to stepping on the gas pedal. Trying to get over several lanes to the side of the road is dangerous when there is no acceleration. It is also bad when on a busy, main road, the vehicle "acts up". I have to pull over, blocking traffic, until i can get it going again.

This is the 3rd time for injectors in our 2003 injectors, not one injector...all 8. Lucky this time just 4 hrs. From home and somebody to come with trailer to pick us up. Seems injectors only last 20 tp 30,000 miles and they are gone cracked. Gm wont back them knowing they are a problem, and $5,000.00 each time they are replaced. Gm injectors are junk out the door and leaving hundreds of owners stranded on highway and suffering tow bill and repairs, but this time we almost got rear ended by a semi truck which slammed on his breaks blowing a tire to miss us and our horse trailer with 3 horses in it. The abf trucker that almost hit us in the rear pulled over as we did, and told him the truck just stalled, we pulled the hood and diesel fuel was all over the place and he stated i cracked my injectors, the local gm dealer told me the same thing and that year has plenty of problems with injectors but gm wont replace them. What's it going to take, another bus load of kids killed to resolve this issue?? another $5,000.00 donation to gm.

5 out of 8 exhaust manifold bolts are broken on the passenger side of vehicle and 2 on drivers side. I have 120k miles on vehicle.

My 2003 silverado pickup truck has been found to have a common and recurrent problem. Exhaust manifold bolts break, and on the driver side rear, they can be expensive to repair. A few minutes of web searching on this topic produced a number of results and my conclusion is the issue is common.the online complaints also indicate that the success rate for the repair is not good, with many repaired vehicles having subsequent bolt failures. My vehicle is in an authorized chevy service garage having the bolts replaced. The original estimate was for $486, if cylinder head did not need to be removed. The service technician broke a tap off in the rear most bolt location. I don't know if it happened before head removal or after. It became necessary to remove the cylinder head and was requoted at $1600.a call was made to gm 3-6-12. The response was that my truck was out of warranty and there fore they could be of no assistance in the matter. I am certainly aware of the warranty terms. My issue is with the scale of this engineering/manufacturing defect and the cost to the owners.the issue can cause emissions problems due to catalytic converter failure and further expense.

Dt*:the contact stated the vehicle was started, ran for 10 seconds and stalled completely.the vehicle was not able to be restarted.the vehicle was towed to a service dealer who was unable to duplicate or determine the problem.

Vehicle remains running but shows power reduction.check engine light comes on and stays on.you have to pull over, shut it off, press the arrow button on the steering wheel for a few second and restart.this happened on i35 at 70mph 4 times in 40 miles yesterday.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning while driving at any speed intermittently, but the failure became frequent, when the vehicle was turned off and within a few minutes it began to function normally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who performed a diagnostic test and confirmed that the crank position sensor had failed. The manufacturer was notified and stated that the vehicle was not included in recall 07v521000 engine and engine cooling; they agreed to call him at a later date to inform him if they were going to assist with the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 2,000 and the current mileage was 105,000.

The heads of the bolts that hold the exhaust manifolds to the cylinder heads are breaking off for no apparent reason causing an exhaust leak.

I have had a exhaust leak that i finally pinpointed to be broken exhaust manifold bolts. The truck was bought new by me and has never had any exhaust work done. Now i have to take it to a dealer to have this expensive repair done. Apparently this seems to be an extensive problem, with these bolts. This i understand to be an extensive repair. Gm knows there is a problem with the bolts, why wont they make it right.

The vehicle goes into reduced engine power while driving.the engine loses power to about 20 mph. If driving 70 mph it is very dangerous because the sudden reduced engine power will cause a severe accident and possibly kill somebody. This has been happening the last few months.

This vehicle failed state safety inspection due to corroded brake lines and leaking exhaust around head gasket.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd.while driving 60 mph, the contact noticed oil leaking from the vehicle.the dealer stated that the oil pump created a hole in the transfer case.the dealer replaced the back half of the transfer case.the failure mileage was 62,438 and current mileage was 63,000.updated 01-14-08.updated 12/12/07.

I have a 2003 chevy 2500 silverado with the 6 liter v8. 2 years ago i noticed a ticking sound from the engine compartment. After looking closer i found a broken exhaust manifold bolt on the right side. At that time the vehicle had about 130,000 miles on it. A couple months later while changing oil i found another broken bolt on the right side. This year while changing plugs i found another broken bolt on the left side. I was looking on the internet to get some tips on fixing the problem when i came across a utube video by carquestions and found out this is not just bad luck on my part it is a very wide spread problem and an obvious manufacturing defect by gm. This is not an easy fix and to get it done is more than i can afford. My check engine light is on constantly now because of the problem it has created with the emission control system. This was not the result of any actions of mine. I have done the maintenance to maintain this vehicle. Gm needs to be responsible for fixing this problem.

2003 chevrolet silverado 2500hd w/ 8.1l engine. With 59,000 miles. I noticed a ticking noise coming from the engine compartment. I took into a dealership for some other service and had them check this noise also. It turned out to be a warped right side exhaust manifold. I also know people that have this same engine in there motorhomes that have had the same problem.

When i turn the left turn signal on, it sometimes works and sometimes it doesn't.sometimes it turns both turn signals on like the hazards.if i have my cruise set and use the left turn signal, it shuts the cruise off.tr

Chronic failure of fuel injectors on 2003 duramax chevy truck, deal has replaced injectors three times, now they are failing again and want 5k to fix them. Last fix was 40,000 miles ago. Here is the short and skinny. I was informed(during an injector swap in my truck) that the different types of injectors that were tested by gm and their partners (isuzu and bosch) provided good data for the ongoing service campaign, but will not be released through gm parts. Gm and partners (bosch) have made 2 modifications (documented) to the injector design from original and has deemed the current incarnation of this injector adequate. That is gm's solution apparently. Will it be a permanent solution? who can say, but it probably will be the only solution we ever see. The production and design cost combined with a "limited" customer base dictates that we will probably not see a complete replacement unit of new design come into the marketplace. Many failure causes have been theorized, two main modes of premature failure have emerged, but i am of the thought that a waveform analysis of the power to the injectors done over long term might yield some interesting results. Having been through the mill on these injectors personally, and having read volumes of information, i feel very strongly that we are looking at the effect of a problem on a weak point (injector bodies), and not the root cause.so the buy is stuck with a poorly engineered truck.what recourse do we have??? come on gm come clean and do what is right, after all we the people bailed you out!

Instrument cluster fuel gauge failure. This happens frequently, sometimes every day. Nothing has been found to correct the failure.the fuel gauge often shows inaccurate fuel level readings. It happens more often when the car is warm than when it is cold. It happens a lot when the car is hot (e.g. Heater is on very high or in the summer).i'm afraid that the fuel gauge will tell me that i have more fuel than i really do and, as a result, cause the engine to stall from fuel exhaustion on a busy highway resulting in an accident.this still happens to the vehicle often. Repairs have not been done. I have heard that many many others with this make of vehicle have the same problem.the same issue happens not only to the fuel gauge, but also these other gauges: the speedometer (which could cause me to drive too fast for conditions or break the speed limit), oil pressure, engine temp, voltmeter, transmission temp and tachometer.

I was driving down the road at highway speed (65mph) and the front right steel brake line burst and i lost most of my brake fluid. Upon looking under the truck for the cause of the problem, i noticed that all of the brake lines and two of the fuel lines were badly corroded. I tow trailers often and i'm thankful i wasn't towing our 11,000lb 5th wheen camper when this happened or there would have been a horrific crash! i have done quite a bit of research and noticed that there are quite a few compliants about the same problem for this model year pickup. Is there a recall and how do i go about getting this fixed? i am out of work on medical leave and cannot afford to take the truck to the shop and "wait" for gm to think about re-embursing me.

2003 chevrolet silverado.consumer writes in regards to fuel injectors problem .the consumer stated his vehicle was always mis-diagnosed. The dealer never checked to see if there was a problem with the fuel injectors, in which white some was emitting from the vehicle. The dealer only replaced the glow plugs, which was not the problem.

Fuel injector failure.

In late dec my diesel fuel return line rotted out from rust, and was leaking diesel fuel all over the road while driving or stopped at idle. I didn't notice it until i stopped to re-fuel and realized fuel was dripping from the under carriage of the truck. I was on travel for christmas, about 500 miles from home and there were no open auto shops around that i could find. I was able to cut the rotted section out and band aid fix the system with some rubber fuel line and hose clamps from autozone. This fix has seemed to hold up fairly well for the time being, but i have not been using my truck. Fast forward to last week when my brake line decided to burst, spewing brake fluid all over the road and the under carriage of my truck. Luckily i was able to control the vehicle and get it towed back home where it now sits. I've been doing the research and there are thousands of others with these same rusted out line issues on these gmc vehicles. I have yet to contact gm about it but i am sure they will not do anything for me as the truck does have higher millage. However, this is something that is happening to people with under 100k on their vehicles! here are some of the links...nhtsa action number: dp10003http://trucks.about.com/b/2011/08/01/brake-line-corrosion-suspected-in-gm-trucks.htmhttp://trucks.about.com/od/generalmotorstrucks/a/brake-line-corrosion-problems-in-gm-trucks.htmhttp://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/webx/.f0d4fe5?displayrecent

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. The contact stated that he applied the brakes in an attempt to stop and the brake pedal depressed all the way down to the floor. When the vehicle was stopped, the contact noticed brake fluid leaking from the brake lines. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic, where they replaced all the brake lines. They also had to replace the calipers. The dealer was not notified. The manufacturer was notified and stated that there were no recalls or warranties covering the failure. They offered no other assistance. The contact stated that the fuel lines were also rotted and corroded. This was not repaired. The failure mileage was 30,900.updated 10/23/2014*ljupdated 04/7/2015

Unintended acceleration with my 2003 chevy silverado 2500hd 6.0l gas engine.

2003 chevy 2500hd truckbrake pedal went to the floor when leaving garage.....under vehicle found brake fluid puddle....upon inspection found severely rusted brake line was leaking.....year prior had same issue with a different line, so changed out line. Even changed a rusted line that wasn't leaking....when filled reservoir with fluid and pressed pedal, brake line going to rearof truck in an obscured, above the gas tanklocation, started to leak....once again .....severely rusted brake line, in an area free from any road debris....so alas, after dropping the gas tank and replacing this line, which meant every line has been replaced......no leaks!!!what is going on with these lines.....i baby this truck and it is in the garage 95% of the time always clean...this should never have happened!!!!after being a chevy man all my life.......i'm done....drive shaft, fuel tank guard, and fuel lines and filterall rusted.....from what?????

When fueling my 2003 chevrolet 2500 hd pickup i noticed fuel spilling out when i took the screwdriver to remove the clamp i notice the filler neck was rusted thru and the rubber hose was just floating. Now i called chevrolet parts department and this is going to cost me $400.00 for the part because it is sold all one piece.

Brake lines rotted out.

The contact own a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500hd. The contact stated that the brake lines, fuel lines, fuel straps and the exhaust manifold were rusted and corroded. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic for routine maintenance and when the contact was advised of the failure. The dealer was notified who advised the contact that they would not repair the vehicle because most vehicles within the eastern region experienced the same rust failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vin was unavailable. The failure mileage was 62,000.

Fuel line leak along driver side frame rail due to excessive corrosion of fuel line.

The brake lines rusted threw while driving making the truck unsafe for driving.the fuel lines are going to go next after inspection all the brake and fuel lines are bad.

The brake lines and fuel lines leaked and were replaced due to excessive corrosion.the front brakes failed while driving. The gas line leaked in my driveway.

On exceptionally warm days and the vehicle is in normal operating temp. The vehicle fuel system will loose its prime while parked for a short period of time.when starting the vehicle, the vehicle will not start due to the fuel system losing its prime.during the time while pushing down on the primer plunger, desiel fuel leaks around the plunger making priming the fuel system difficult.several attempts to prime the fuel system, the vehicle will eventually start.again, this happens on warm to hot days and after the vehicle sits for less than an hour or so.once the vehicle is primed and finally started, the vehicle will run normally.this only happens after the vehicle has been parked for a period of less/more than an hour.

2003 chevrolet silverado brake problem. Contact states brakes pulsated in rear rotors. Brake wereheavily corroded and dealer replaced rear rotors.the dealer told the consumer that since the use of asbestos brakes had been discontinued, brake quality and performance had been reduced. The dealer went on to explain that the pad material forms deposits on the rotors causing the surface to become less smooth and eventually giving a pulsating sensation leading to poor braking performance. On july 20, 2007 the consumer began experiencing the pulsating issue again, only to be told that the brake problem was due to non-use, however the consumer disagreed with their findings, stating the vehicle was driven at least once a week. The consumer took possession of the old rotors and soon discovered that the rear rotors were worn twice as hard as the front rotors that were original for the vehicle. The consumer stated the rear brakes were producing the majority of stopping power on the vehicle.the left rear door would not close properly. The dealer ordered a new latch

I filed a complaint in 2009 with the nhtsa and have yet to hear anything from the agency regarding this problem. In the same year as the complaint, i had my local chevrolet dealer's service department replace a section of brake line by the abs module that had failed due to extreme corrosion. This past week i returned to the same dealer to have them repair another section that had also failed. I was told that, due to possible litigation they would not repair the line as they had in the past, but would replace the entirety of the line for an estimate of $1200.00. The service manager also stated that figure could go higher as more was discovered. I can't see putting this kind of money into this vehicle knowing that more failures are sure to follow even though the truck has only 95,000 miles on it now.gm knows there is a problem. They could care less and the customer is going to foot the bill for their malfeasance as usual.

Vehicle was in 4 wheel drive, when the whole truck shuttered, i lost the drive capabilities of the truck then stopped and looked underneath vehicle to find fluid coming out of the transfer case. In my case this happened on a residential street, if it would have happened on highway it could have resulted in a very bad accident. Please contact me on a possible recall for the transfer case. Transmission would not engage into drive for a moment while pressing on the gas pedal. Truck was in drive and would engage after a few seconds of accelerating.

Began hearing low moaning sound while driving down hwy. Pulled over immediately to determine cause. Found trans fluid leaking from allison trans. Trans. Shop found cracked extension housing and old metal fragments in trans pan. Old metal fragments were caked inside pan indicating a long existing problem and not the result of current cracked housing.trans shop informed me this was a common defect in the chevy allision trans, but was rare in vehicles with such low mileage (69000) and well maintained like my truck. Informed gm of problem. Gm denied any problems with the allisons and are refusing to assist in resolving issue. Contacted allison directly and was informed the tranny was originally designed by them but is manufactured by gm and that gm had made modifications to their design. This truck also experienced $7000 worth of fuel injector issues at 50000 miles.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, he noticed a ticking sound from the vehicle.the noise became louder and the contact later discovered that the bearing and timing chain were damaged. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 195,000.

2003 chevy 2500hd duramax/ allison transmission has 94,300 miles on it. Found defect while backing it out of driveway; the back cover of the transmission was cracked and fluid coming out.the cover is part no.29544804 through gm.at a cost of $666.60 plus other parts need for repairs and labor also needed to be added to charges. The new part is just that, new from old defective part. I just did the repair my self because just lost my job the day of the transmission failed and couldn't pay to have it done. Gm tells me it is an old truck why it failed and they have no liability; yet the new cover is much heavier in design from original one.

My 2003 chevrolet 2500hd truck has had the power steering pump go out three times. When it goes out the steering and brakes fail and make it very hazardous to continue requiring me to stop and have some one pick up my truck and haul it home.i've also had my air conditioning go out twice and is nearing failure again.the front hub assembly has also gone out twice on this truck.once the repair was made under warranty.

I had the transmission fluid flushed and filter changed and the mechanic tells me there was a lot of metal particles in the transmission fluid and felt there was an impending failure.the chevy dealer told me to wait to see what occurs since he had not heard of an allison transmission failing at 50,000 miles which is where the mileage was at when i had the above service done. It seems to drive fine but i am very concerned. I have a duramax engine with the allison transmission bought in 2003 of a 2003 chevy silverado diesel 2500hd. Little towing done with the vehicle so that is not the cause.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd.while driving at any speed, the brake pedal would pulsate.the dealer stated that all of the brakes, abs sensors, front and rear rotors, and front wheel bearings needed to be replaced.in addition, the brake line and transmission needed to be flushed.the current mileage was 36,400 and failure mileage was 35,700.

Noticed transmission leaking, identified that the transfer case had cracked in the slots that hold the pump. Identified numerous complaints online on duramax trans missions, and identified an aftermarket product was made to prevent further cracks from occurring. It seems that the housing is made of magnesium and is non similar metals.

The event leading up to is wet weather. The transmission will stick in one gear and will not shift. When i took the truck in to cindy chevorlet i was told that per g.m. Policy they could not do anything until the computer showed a code for the problem. This is the response i got from three dealerships.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. The contact stated that the brake pad on the rear passenger side worse out prematurely. The contact called the dealership and was told that the rotors needed to be turned and the brake pads needed to be changed. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The current and failure mileages were approximately 27,000.updated 7/16/10 the consumer stated turning the rotors and replacing the pads will not solve the problem. Worn out pads and rotors are symptoms of another problem.the calipers were not working properly. The metal brake lines and other similar metal linessuch as the transmission cooler lines all showed extreme rust on the outside.updated 07/22/10

Chevy 2500hd year 2003 i fill a bump each time i stop and put off in my truck. It fill like something is rolling around in the bed. I think it is in my differential or drive shaft.

20030 chevy 2500 hd transfer case was found to have a hole in top of case. Told by dealership that it was worn from inside out. They say they have heard of that and gm doesn't want to deal with it because truck is to old. I have 75,680 miles on truck.

2003 chevrolet silverado.consumer writes in regards to vehicleenginemalfunctions.an inspection revealed the differential fluid had dropped from the transfer case, which in turn seized up. The transfer case was replaced at a cost of $ 2,033.87. The consumer stated there was a slight grinding noise while driving down the mountain a few earlier. However, he inspected the vehicle, but found nothing wrong.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd.the contact discovered that the transmission was leaking fluid while backing out of the driveway.he stated that the top of thetransmission case was cracked.the transmission is fine, but there is a stress crack on the outer case.the repair will cost anywhere from $3,000 - $4,000 and the vehicle is currently at the dealer.the vin, engine size, and purchase date were unknown.the current and failure mileages were 94,000.

Both front and rear center-seat lap restraint belt latch covers (gm part # 14863), from the male end of the belt fell off.both have received minimal use, however the tabs that hold the covers to the belt latch are broken off.this issue presents an obvious cosmetic defect and more importantly i am unsure if the affected belts are safe to use either by adults or my soon to be born daughter in a child seat.weaver auto center in grass valley, ca informed us that gm would not furnish replacement parts for seat belts due to liability/safety reasons.furthermore, to remedy the resulting cosmetic or safety condition i would have to purchase new seat belts.

Seat belts are clean and free of debris, but do not latch properly.both driver and passenger belts.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph, the vehicle was involved in a head on crash and the air bags did not deploy. The front passenger seat belt also failed to retain its passenger. Both the driver and the passenger suffered injuries as a result. The contact also stated that the driver of the other vehicle involved suffered injuries. The vehicle was towed to an independent repair, but the failure was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure and the current mileages were 58,000.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. While sitting in the rear seat, the seat belts were too long resulting in the passenger not being restrained. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 175,000.

2003 silverado drivers seat heater turns on by itself after start up and becomes a dangerous distraction to keep turning it off while driving. After reading many forums, this is a widespread issue throughout the gm light duty truck/suv line of vehicles. This issue has just recently started to happen with my truck. The only difference recently is that my truck is being operated in more damp conditions than usual instead of being parked in a dry garage. I have now disconnected the heating elements in the seat to stop from getting burned while driving. I have also checked for recalls by vin and nothing was found.

I purchased this truck new. 3 times the drivers seat back broke on the right side lower weld on seat back frame.

The brake line keep rusting out on these vehicle and that is very dangoures to me and other people on the rode

Pushed brake pedal while traveling slow (thankfully) on country road. Lost pressure and pedal went to floor, pulled over and stopped with the emergency brake. Brake hard line ruptured, presumably due to corrosion but unverified at this time, at the approximate location beneath driver's feet. Please do whatever you can to initiate a recall. There can be no excuse allowed for the braking system, and mine was far from a unique case. As it turns out, i know several people locally that have experienced brake line failure on gm trucks that never reported to the nhtsa.

Takata recall. This is my third event relating to brake line failure. This event, i was driving and noticed the brake pedal became spongy. Further inspection showed a leak of brake fluid above my fuel tank and at the left front tire. There appears to be fluid on the frame of the truck behind the driver side front tire. I have not been able to inspect the line above the fuel tank at this time. I have attached a photo of the wet frame behind the left front tire. It shows a rusted brake line. The first two events my juvenile son was driving. For all events we were extremely fortunate to be operating in our yard, so no accidents. The first two events happened approximately 2 years ago. Inspecting the brake lines that failed, showed that these lines were severely rusted. As a matter of fact, inspecting the lines that are visible, they all show signs of rusting. I am fortunate to be able to repair this type of malfunction, so i do not have any dealer paperwork to document the repairs. I have no doubt that there are many other owners of general motor trucks out there who have experienced the same issue and like myself decided to just repair it themselves, avoiding the complaint process. Or,i question if, like myself, they even have knowledge of how to file a complaint. Please forgive me for the last expression of frustration. Finally, how many people are going to have to die for this to become serious enough for a recall order? thank you for your attention to this very serious matter!!!

During test drive for unrelated repair the brakes completely failed. The emergency brake had to be applied to stop the vehicle. Inspection resulted in finding the brake line had "blown" out due to excessive rust/corrosion. The entire brake lines had similar corrosion and when touched would practically disintegrate.result was entire brake line system had to be replaced/fabricated to avoid future blow out of the other lines.no warning of "soft" brake was experienced prior to the incident. Thankfully, incident occurred on small side road with no traffic.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 mph, the brake pedal traveled abruptly to the floor when depressed. The vehicle failed to slow down until the gear was shifted into park and the emergency brake was engaged. The vehicle was then driven to the residence with caution. The contact was a certified mechanic, who replaced the four brake lines, which ruptured due to rust corrosion. The failure recurred shortly after the repairs. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vin was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 134,000.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. The contact was driving 10 mph and applied the brakes but the vehicle did not respond. The contact had to engage the pedal until it was depressed into the floorboard before the vehicle would respond. The contact inspected the vehicle and found that the brake lines were rusted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 60,000.

Broke 3 brake line in less than one year. Corrosion issue with brake lines and when you go to stop fast to avoid hitting something the brake line blows out and pedal goes to the floor and you hit object. All of the chevy trucks are doing this from 2000 to 2005.

On my way home from a family vacation in ocean city, maryland, while getting off rt1 in delaware i saw that the light was red, applied the brakes in order to stop at said red light when the pedal went to the floor and had to use my emergency brake. Pulled over and had my son in law look under the truck for a leak of any kind and he noticed a leak on the driver side. During closer inspection (with one of us under the truck and the other applying the brakes) the said leak was coming from one of four extremely rusted metal brake lines attached to the frame on the driver side.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. While driving approximately 45 mph, the brakes failed when the pedal was depressed. The contact had to apply the emergency brake in order to stop the vehicle. An independent mechanic stated that the brake lines needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 133,000.

I was driving down rt85 with my 03 silverado 2500hd with a 16' trailer and came up to a intersection and applied the brake and the pedal went to the floor. A car was in front of me, i had to turn into a front yard of the house at the intersection, i just missed the car in the driveway and ended up in there driveway. If it was not for the trailer brakes i can't think of what would have happened. The brake line coming down the frame rail rotted off. Looking at the lines more they all are rotten and need to be replaced. Why did i buy another gm?

I own a 2003 chevy silverado hd2500. The truck has less than 70 thousand miles on it and i can't believe the issues i have had with it. I've spent $1000's fixing this piece of junk gm calls a truck.i must have replaced just about everything on this truck, some things two or three times. The latest being the brake lines, the brake lines corroded through with no warning.i was towing 4000 pounds of wood when i hit my brakes and the peddle dropped to the floor ? i almost got killed! this truck was maintained by the dealer for the 1st7 years, until i felt like i was getting screwed by gm and using there junk parts.it is a[xxx] shame when aftermarket parts are much better quality than gm oem parts ? i will never use gm parts again.i had the same problem with the rotors until i replaced them for the third time with aftermarket rotors and now they seem to be fine now.gm must be getting their junk oem parts from china!!this is ridiculous and gm should be ashamed and held accountable for their vehicles being unsafe and dangerous to the consumer.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The brake lines and fuel lines leaked and were replaced due to excessive corrosion.the front brakes failed while driving. The gas line leaked in my driveway.

I was driving home thurs. Aug 23, 2012 in heavy traffic when i had to stop suddenly to avoid an accident.i stepped on the brake pedal and it went straight to the floor with no resistance.i drove the truck home with very little braking power. While at home i inspected the truck, and found a puddle of brake fluid on the ground under the drivers door.while inspecting the underside of the truck i found that the brake lines just in front of the abs module had rusted completely through.

Had total brake failure, no warning till slowing down at intersection of busy road. Apx. 100 yards before stop light i applied brakes, pedal was soft, pumped brakes and pedal went all the way to floor! i quickly pumped brakes and came to stop in the intersection not 2 seconds after motorcycle with passenger passed in front of me! no brake warning light ever alerted, found steel brake line had rusted and ruptured. This truck has only 65000 miles on it, found another line is very rusted in same place as it crosses over frame. After research on repairs, found that this is common problem with these trucks from 1999 to 2003. This one could have been fatal,as motorcycle was traveling at least 45 mph. These trucks are all coming to the age of failure. Thank god, i was not pulling my boat that weighs 6700 lbs as this truck can no longer be trusted. I will be checking into repairs, and it will be sold !

I was driving hwy 19w toward burnsville, n.c.a car pulled out in front of me, i applied the brakes, and they were extremely soft. I ran off the road and finally came to a stop.i was within 1/4 mile of a garage and i slowly drove the truck to it.the mechanic replaced the rear brake lines and advised that i have them all replaced as they had all rusted out. The fuel lines rusted in two in 2013. The cab started rusting in 2008, and now has holes from front to back including bumpers from rust. The cab mounts have also rusted.

While driving to go get lunch i went to slow down because of traffic and my pedal went to the floor.thank god i didn't hit anyone.i had the truck towed home and i noticed brake fluid leaking under the truck.when i climbed under i noticed the lines were corroded and one of the had ruptured.after all of this i started to look on the internet and saw that this is a problem with alot of gm trucks.i can't believe that there is no recall yet!!! are they waiting for someone to get killed first.

Brake line broke while braking for turn. Line broke that supplied drivers front brake. Hole in bend before flexible line to caliper. Noticed all front brake lines very rusted those even going to the master cyl. Not drove that often during the winter months, not from salt.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph, he applied the brakes but the vehicle did not decelerate. The contact was able to maneuver the vehicle into a parking lot and shifted into park. The vehicle was then towed to a dealer for diagnosis and the contact was informed that three of the brake lines would need to be replaced due to severe corrosion. The contact was advised that the modulator valve would also require replacing. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure mileage was 84,498 and the current mileage was 84,550.

While driving the brakes completely failed with no warning. The pedal went to the floor and just kept going into the rear of the car in front of me. I was traveling about 25mph the front bumper has to replaced. No air bag deployment.

Driving home from work on a local 2-lane highway, hit the brakes to slow down for a car that moved into my lane, pedal went all the way to the floor.i almost rear-ended the car in front of me.what is it going to take to get a recall?does a pedestrian in a crosswalk need to get killed before someone does the responsible thing?brake lines run around $1500 to replace.it looks like the line in the driver side front burst.in reviewing this online, i see many many many many chevy owners are having he same problem.never gm again.what happened to pride and quality in american manufacturing?it's a shame, my toyota and infiniti do not have these problems.

Sudden brake failure as approaching traffic light.pedal went all the way to the floor.i was able to downshift and pull into empty lane.had truck towed to mechanic. Brake line was so badly corroded it broke and all brake fluid had been lost.all brake lines have to be replaced.brake rotors are so rusted they have to be replaced.passenger side rear brake so badly rusted entire brake assembly and rotor has to be replaced.estimate $1500.00.i hate to think what might have happened if i was traveling at highway speed and had to brake.

Went to back out of driveway and brakes went to the floor.stopped the truck and had brake fluid leaking from a failed rusty line.most lines had major corrosion just behind the engine and above the gas tank.getting estimate to fix now...won't be cheap as i understand it requires custom bending of brakelines.

Brake line failure in several places. Was under vehicle performing an oil change. Noticed fluid on the bottom of the fuel tank. Investigated and found the rear most hard brake line leaking. Continued to inspect all hard lines and found several areas where leaks were present. Removed vehicle from use and started replacing all hard brake lines. New lines are stainless steel thus i should never run into this issue again. Gm should have used stainless steel lines in the first place rather than plain steel lines. The original brakes lines broke like twigs when i bent them to throw them away. I have never seen brake lines in this type of condition on a vehicle with 130,000 miles. This is a safety hazard and possible accident waiting to happen. I have never experienced brake line failure on a vehicle like the chevy silverado. The nhtsa needs to force gm to perform a recall and resolve this issue.

During repair, all brake lines appear to be corroded to the point of breaking.approximate cost of repair is $1300.00.dealer stated he is repairing many early 2000 chevrolet pickups for this problem.

Applied brakes to stop abruptly when traffic stopped in front of me. Brake pedal went to floor. Found brake fluid running down front drivers side frame. Steel brake lines severely rotten all over truck.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and failed to respond. As a result, the contact noticed brake fluid dripping under the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 160,000. The vin was not available.

Metal brake line burst due to corrosion.when stopping at a stop sign, the brake pedal went to the floor. Once home, i found that a brake line that runs along the drivers side frame had burst.

Body and under body rust and rot to include frame, brake lines and shock mounts.brake lines failed while i was driving, thankfully at slow speeds and was able to activate the emergency brake.

While backing out of driveway the brake pedal went all the way to the floor. Upon investigation a ruptured brake line was found. All the lines were very rusty. Two sections were replaced to get the vehicle on the road again and most of the rest will need replaced before the vehicle can be trust worthy. The vehicle was inspected by the dealer here in pa this past summer and no mention was made of this condition.

Involving my 2003 chevy silverado c2500hd, vin: [xxx]; when i attempted to move this vehicle,on a flat surface in my driveway. The brake pedal went to the floor and the truck continued to roll. Narrowly missing another vehicle...minutes earlier i had been driving on a major michigan highway. There is brake fluid leaking near the center of the vehicle.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I made a panic stop andthen lost brakes ..lines frommaster cylinder to brake module and from module tofront and rear brakes burst atrusted area ........seems to be leaking where line mounting clips are located ...

Blew a hole in brake line at boat landing. Luckily i got it stopped before it went into the lake. All brake lines are rusted and need to be replaced. This could have caused severe injury or death if it happened at a different time. I think a recall is necessary as this is a major safety issue. I also have a friend that had the same thing happen on his 2004 sierra.

In approximately may of 2014 i hooked my 2003 silverado up to my camper to pull it.when i pushed the brake pedal it went to the floor.when i looked under the vehicle there was brake fluid running out of the left front brake line.i took the truck to jennings chevrolet in chambersburg, pa for repair which cost more than $400.then last night my son was using the truck and he called me to tell me that while he was driving it the brake pedal went all the way to the floor.he had to pump the brakes to stop.he was able to get to a store to buy brake fluid.he said the truck is leaking from a rear brake line this time.this is going to cost me hundreds of dollars again.i'm hoping that something can be done regarding this issue as i've never had the brake line fail on the same vehicle twice, even a vehicle 12 years old.

In driveway put foot on brake and pedal went to the floor. Found rear brake line has leak in section behind fuel tank. Inspected other four lines going into abs unit and found those lines rusted badly also. Noted undercarriage has lots of rust everywhere. Fuel lines also very rusted.

Without any warning, or warning lights while in reverse brake pedal went to the floor with little to no braking.noticed brake fluid coming from underneath driver side door.

I was driving in a parking garage when the vehicle in front of me stopped to pull into a space.i applied my brakes and the pedal went all the way to the floor.i was barely able to stop to avoid colliding with the vehicle in front of me.i was able to pull into a parking space and stopped before hitting the wall in front of me.when i got out of my vehicle, i observed fluid pouring out from underneath the drivers side front end behind the tire.i was not able to drive my vehicle and called a tow truck to tow it to midas to have my vehicle inspected.when they put my vehicle up on the lift, the drivers side brake lines were all rusted and corroded.they were able to repair the brake line system.i did not have any warning that this was going to happen and there was no evidence of any fluid leaking in my driveway.i take very good care of my vehicle getting the oil changed when scheduled to be changed, having the preventive maintenance done when scheduled, rotating the tires when i get the oil changed, having all of the differential fluids and transmissions fluid changed when scheduled, changing all belts when scheduled to be changed, taking the vehicle immediately to the dealership when there is a recall, etc.i have all of my receipts and vouchers when all of the above was completed.i am very upset that this repair cost me $630.44 including sales tax.i would appreciate a refund because a recall needs to be issued.

On 6/28/2012, encountered no braking condition while driving at 25-40 mph. Had vehicle towed to chevy dealer who discovered one of the brake lines was heavily rusted and had burst. New line installed. On 8/10/2012 same condition occurred to another brakeline.upon inspection, found all lines heavily corroded and need replacement except for the one previously replaced.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. While driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle failed to stop when the brake pedal was depressed. The contact had to use the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. The contact replaced the front brake lines, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 166,000.

Everything related to my truck's brakes seemed to be working fine. I had just driven the truck ~100 highway miles without incident. After reaching my destination, i backed my truck up and hitched my boat trailer to it. The truck brakes worked fine as i maneuvered the truck to align it with the trailer. There was no indication of any imminent failure - nothing on the dash warning lights and the brake pedal had a normal feel to it. As i began to pull away with my boat in tow and prepared to turn, i depressed the brake pedal and it went completely to the floor. The brakes completely failed - no warning light and absolutely 100% loss of braking power. I quickly placed the truck in neutral and the drag of the trailer across the lawn slowed the truck enough that i was able to put the transmission into park. After opening the hood, i noticed the brake fluid was low. I added 12 ounces of the appropriate brake fluid, restarted the truck, and the brake pedal still went to the floor. My wife, who was standing alongside the truck (she was behind it as i backed up - thank god the brakes didn't fail at that point), noticed a stream of brake fluid coming from under the truck and near the firewall. I called aaa and had my truck towed to a local aaa approved service center. The technician stated that my brakes lines were leaking, severely corroded throughout, and needed to be replaced. The truck is still in the shop. I'm saving the bill and all of the related parts. Fortunately i was only inconvenienced - not hurt.

As my son was pulling out of the driveway going down the street, we noticed a large puddle of fluid in our driveway.we called him to let him know and he commented "that must be why i all of sudden have no brakes."what an extremely dangerous situation this could have been if he was going 55 mph on a highway. As a new, young driver, i am not sure if he would know how to react quick enough to use emergency brake or how to stop a truck this size without brakes working. After much investigation on-line, i found out that this make/model/year had an enormous amount of issues with brake lines corroding which is exactly what happened. I am extremely disappointed in chevrolet for not issuing a formal recall if they are aware of this issue.this could have caused an extremely bad accident or fatality. You can't put a price on my son's or anyone's life. They need to acknowledge and pay for the repairs at the very least before someone gets killed.

While towing a 6000 lb. Trailer, the brake peddle went down near floor. I thought trailer brakes were not working properly. Fortunately i was near home. Next morning i noticed large pool of brake fluid under the truck. I found that badly rusted brake lines on the 2003 silverado were leaking.

I was plowing snow, stepped on the brakes and the pedal went to the floor and crashed into the side of a garden shed. No warning or indicator light.i parked the truck in the garage and the next day found a large puddle of brake fluid under the truck. The master cylinder reservoir was empty. I added an entire quart of fluid, found a ruptured brake line under the truck (in the area of the drivers side seat location), started the truck to see if any of the braking was working and the brake warning light came on. There was no braking whatsoever, even after filling the brake fluid reservoir .

Brake warning light illuminated along with chime and "service brake system" message on dash display.chevy service technician diagnosed ruptured connection from line to brake modulator caused by corrosion and recommended replacing all brake lines at cost of $1700.ordinary steel in this application is a poor materials choice--stainless steel would have lasted the life of the vehicle without this safety issue. I am told new lines are rubber coated for longer life.antique vehicles (over 25 years old), are expected to have this issue, not a 10 year old truck.

While driving down the highway at 55mph approaching a stop light signal it turned yellow. Knowing that i wasn't going to make it through the intersection before it turned red i hit the brakes to stop. While pushing down on the brakes everything felt normal with resistance from the pedal until all of a sudden the brake pedal lost its resistance or pressure and went straight to the floor and i had little to no brakes. Thankfully no one was in front of me as i would not have been able to stop in time. I then pulled over and after further inspection found that the rear hydraulic brake line had failed due to corrosion. Corrosion that was caused by using inferior products that cant sustain the elements it's used in. I now see that this was a known problem that gm hasn't informed its owners or recalled. Shame on them. Why do we have to wait for people to die before action is taken on anissue such as brake failure. They got lucky in my case.

Was backing into my drive and the pedal went to the floor. Couldn't stop and backed right into my 5th wheel travel trailer. The brake line were so corroded it was unbelievable. Took the truck to belle tire and had the brake lines replaced which cost nearly $700. This should be a recall people could get seriously injured or killed.

Brake line failure due to corrosion.2004 chevy silverado 2500hd with 70,100 milesmy 15 year old was driving the vehicle pulling into a parking spot at a shopping center with his dad in the passenger seat. He attempted to stop and vehicle brakes failed without warning. No dashboard lights and no known cause at the time. Subsequent failure located at left front wheel well as corroded brake lines coming along chasis from brake valve body master cylinder. No warning lights of any kind on dashboard. Vehicle has not been repaired as of date of incident (yesterday). Updated 11/13/12 updated 12/3/2012

I backed truck up to dock to load boat on it and set the emergency brake. Getting ready to pull away i released the emergency brake then pushed on brake and it went straight to the floor. I then pulled forward to see why i had no brakes, only to find brake fluid spraying everywhere. This is a huge problem for chevy and gmc trucks, just glad that no one got hurt. Thank you for looking into this matter.

Was backing out of parking spot to leave work and stepped on the brake to shift into reverse.brake pedal went to the floor.being a chevy truck and knowing that they are notorious for brake lines rusting out, i got out of the truck to look underneath and saw brake fluid leaking from the rear of the truck, along the driver side frame rail above the fuel tank.had rusted out brake lines replaced by local service center for $605.60.i only drove the truck this day to pick up items from a home improvement store.normally this truck is only used by my wife to pull a horse trailer. Other than that it sits in our garage out of the weather.i am so glad this happened to me while at a stop as opposed to her while driving on the winding northern kentucky roads pulling a trailer loaded with horses!

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500hd. The contact stated that while driving approximately 5 mph in a parking lot, the brake pedal was depressed and when all the way to the floorboard. The brakes failed to stop the vehicle which continued to accelerate. The contact mentioned that in order to come to a stop the gear was shifted into park. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed the brake lines were completely corroded. The vehicle was not towed and remained at the location where the brake malfunction occurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 70,101.updated 12/3/2012

Forward driver's side brake line broke resulting in immediate loss of brake fluid and all vehicle braking.fortunately no one was in front of vehicle.pulled off of road.car towed.

Truck was parked at home on a hill.i put it in reverse and started to backup when the brakes completely failed causing me to go into a tree.this caused damage to the rear drivers side quarter panel.brake fluid is leaking from the brake line in the rear of the vehicle. Vehicle would not shift back into park.i had to shut the vehicle off and now calling a tow truck.

Pushed brake while approaching a stop sign and brake pedal went to floor. Looked under the truck and could clearly see fluid on the ground and that brake line was leaking. After further look could see the brake lines were corroded and had more than one leak. No previous indication that brakes were about to fail. No fluid in driveway or lack of brake performance before this incident.no warning of any kind. No warning lights came on. Good thing we didn't make it to the freeway.

Was coming to a stop and applied the brake, brake pedal went all the way to the floor. I did get the truck stopped. Go the truck home and noticed that there was brake fluid dropping from the truck. Took a look and it was coming from a break line in the middle of the truck on the drivers side. Noticed that the brake lines were rusted badly.

On saturday 6 july, while exiting a shopping center, i pulled up to a red traffic light and applied the brakes.the pedal went to the floor and the vehicle kept rolling.i pumped the brakes but the pedal went to the floor each time.i did manage to stop before going through the light and entering cross traffic.i pulled into a parking lot after i went through the green light.a quick inspection determined the brake line along the drivers side going to the rear of the vehicle was corroded and failed in three different spots.i am in the process of inspecting and replacing all brake lines due to corrosion.

While backing into my driveway the brake pedal went all way to the floor. Had trouble stopping. Luckily, i was on level ground. Discovered brake fluid along the drivers side frame. The brake line was ruptured and i had to have all brake lines replaced due to extreme rust.

Traveling at 25mph, my wife lost complete braking and ran through a red light.fortunately the timing was such that there was no accident.the brake pedal went to the floor.no indicator lights illuminated and have not illuminated since the incident.determined that the rear brake line had corroded and ruptured causing loss of hydraulic braking capabilities.thank god for emergency brakes, 1st gear, and an experienced driver.

In june of 2013 while drive my 2003 silverado the brakes line completely rusted through nearly causing a severe accident as i was in a very busy section of us127s in frankfort, ky.. By sure luck i was able to manoeuvre the truck to a safe place to stop, without hitting another person or vehicle by going up a slight grade and placing in park before rolling backwards it had to be towed to o'brien & gaites chevroletin frankfort, ky. Where the informed me that the brake lines had rusted through and needed to be replaced. I ask if there had been arecall on these lines and was told no. The lines were replaced both the front from booster to abs and then from abs back to rear wheels at a cost of $400 plus. The truck only has 89,000 miles on it and the in september of 2015 after sitting in my driveway the brakes stopped working. After looking under the truck i could determine that the brake fluid was running out directly across from the front door underneath from the frame rail. It appeared obvious that again the lines were leaking. When o'brien & gaits chevrolet was contacted they informed me that i would have to pay an additional tow in bill and then i would also have to pay a diagnostic fee even though i could see where the brake fluid was leaking and running on the ground by simply looking under the truck as i pushed on the brake pedal myself.this last incident occurred while the vehicle was parked and the problem was only discovered when attempting to move the truck.

The brakes failed while i was hooking the truck to a trailer.i was backing the truck to align the ball to the hitch and the brake pedal went right to the floor.very lucky this happened in the driveway and not going down the road with a 8,000 trailer behind it.i live in ohio, but this is a two wheel drive truck that is used strictly to tow a race car trailer.it's never been driven in the snow.cost almost $800 to replace every brake line on the truck as they were all badly rusted and it would be just a matter of time before another line failed.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500. While driving approximately 60 mph the brake pedal dropped to thefloor board; however, the contact was able to stop the vehicle. After inspecting the vehicle the contact noticed all of the brake lines were corroded and two of the brake lines were fractured. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 89,000.

Exiting highway and brake pedal went to the floor. Made it home slowly. Checked today and found a large puddle of fluid on the ground. Found brake line split and others appeared to be close to follow. First time ever having rusted brake lines.

Brakes went out in my driveway as i was leaving.inspection revealed that the brake lines going back to the anti-lock brake mechanism had rusted trough.

I was traveling along at 45 mph., and gently applied brakes as i was nearing an intersection. The brake pedal suddenly went to the floor, and i had no brakes. Luckily i thought quick enough to step down on the parking brake, or there would have been a major wreck. Turns out that a steel brake line burst that runs along the frame in behind the fuel tank. Has there been any recalls on this problem? seems like they should have been made out of stainless steel so they don't rust. Thank god my 16 year old daughter wasn't driving when it happened!

Depressed brake pedal while hooking to trailer preparing to haul farm equipment. Thepedal went to the floor and ifound fluid running down the frame of the truck checked lines and found burst line and all lines looked terribly rusted/rotten. This could have been classified as a near miss since i was on a gravel hillside and had i been hooked to the trailer i would have had a vehicle totally out of control merging into traffic.

The brake lines rusted threw while driving making the truck unsafe for driving.the fuel lines are going to go next after inspection all the brake and fuel lines are bad.

Vehicle brake pedal failed to stop vehicle. Had to apply emergency brakes to stop vehicle. Vehicle was in motion going about 30 mph. Vehicle was on a state hwy. Vehicle was going straight.

Brake lines ruptured underneath driver side of vehicle.vehicle was moving slowly so i was able to stop.brake pedal went to floor.

Brake lines are rusted and corroded to the point that they are leaking and developing small cracks in them.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. While driving approximately 15 mph and applying the brake pedal tostop the vehicle, the brake pedal traveled to the floor and the abs erroneously activated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 138,000.

I was driving down the road when all of a sudden, without warning, when i pressed the brake pedal i heard a loud pop and the brake pedal went all the way to the floor. I had no brakes. Cause corrosive rear brake line. This should be recalled.i almost crashed and could have been much worse if i had my family with me. How many people have to be injured before gm will take responsibility and recall a part that should have been recalled years ago?!!

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph and attempting to brake, the vehicle would not respond. The contact noticed white smoke coming from under the hood as vehicle stalled without warning. The brake lines were fractured and caused brake fluid to leak. The vehicle ignited in flames and burned parts of the exhaust system, the insulation firewall, the wiring harness and the wheel well. The fire department was contacted and a report was filed. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or repair shop for inspection or repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 207,000.

Excessive corrosion to rear brake lines caused braking malfunction. Could not stop effectively. This happened in my driveway while moving vehicle to another parking space. Both rear brakes do not work. Section of brake line forward of brake line tee on differential failed.i am the original owner of my 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500hd ls crewcab duramax 6.6l.

The brake line system is incredibly rusted.i have never seen so much corrosion before on a vehicles brake lines.luckily, the line that runs front to back ruptured while moving slowly down my own driveway!i looked at the rest of the lines underneath the truck and was amazed at the condition of these lines.i am very disturbed that these lines are so badly effected by "normal" new england road conditions.it is quoted from the dealer that it will cost me $1300.00 or more to replace the line set.disgraceful.

Rocker panels and cab corner rusted out, was able to push my finger through the paint. Had them replaced in spring of 2014. Replaced a rear brake line at the time due to ease of access with box removed. Spring of 2016, i had a front brake line fail while approaching a stop sign. Had enough braking left to stop int time. Replaced front brake lines due to rust. Rear section of frame is rusting along with lines on diesel fuel cooler and front control arms. This is not my primary vehicle. We use it for trips and to pull our camper. I have tried to drive it as little as possible on salty and sloppy roads. The paint on outsideand the interior looks great.i am concerned on how much longer it will be safe to drive and tow.

As i was driving and went to apply the brake, my foot went right to the floor and there was no brake application, i had to use the emergency/parking brake and put the gear selector in the lowest gear to slow and stop the truck.although the vehicle went through a traffic light, luckily there was nobody in front of me, the road was straight and level, weather conditions were optimal and there was no traffic at the intersection.i had my wife and 16 month old daughter in the vehicle. It was a very scary and dangerous situation, which most drivers may not have had the quick thought to react the way i did and might have been seriously hurt.upon inspection on the side of the road, it appeared that there was brake fluid was leaking heavily from the middle of the vehicle.upon further inspection, this turned out to be a rotted brakeline in a spot not visible to inspection. The brake line was the one that runs from the abs ditribution/control unit to the rear of the truck; an almost 12 foot line. It rotted out where the line runs along the left frame rail, above the fuel tank. Upon doing research on the internet, i found that this is a common issue with my type of vehicle and under investigation by the nhtsa.i am not sure why gm did not use stainless steel for the brake lines on these trucks or has not issues a warning to owners or offered to rep[lace the lines at their expense.this is a truly unsafe situation! stainless steel could have been installed at the time of manufacture for a minimal expense and passed on to the consumer. After all they used stainless steel for the entire exhaust system....why not the brake lines?

The brake line on my truck corroded and blew out.i was lucky that i did not get in an accident. This is a dangerous situation. I needed to put the truck in neutral and engaged the emergency brake.

We were traveling east on i-90 in mass. Traffic came to a sudden stop. When the brakes were applied the truck began to slow and then the brake pedal went to the floor. Upon investigation after the crash we found at least two badly corroded brake lines that had burst.

The brake line to the front brakes burst and resulted in no brakes. In 2013 the brake line to the rear burst and had the same result. Fortunately i did not have an accident in either case. I repaired the rear brake line and i expected your organization to issue a recall because my research indicated this is a common problem. How many people have to be injured or killed to issue a recall. There is a reasonable expectation that a vehicle in good condition that is ten years old and less than 100,000 miles should not have its brakes fail completely and unexpectedly. Why are these vehicles allowed to be produced with brake lines made of materials that will certainly fail in a short period of time. In both instances, i was traveling at a low speed. What happens when a driver, especially an inexperienced driver has their brakes fail at a high rate of speed. You should issue a recall for the vehicles involved.

While driving home from work, i attempted to brake and my foot went to the floor. I was able to pump the brakes and get the vehicle stopped but would lose pedal pressure quickly. After i arrived at home i inspected my brake master cylinder and it was empty. Inspecting under the vehicle, i noted that brake fluid was covered on the under carriage of the truck immediately under my seat. The brake lines appeared both corroded and rusted. Fortunately, i have been driving emergency vehicles for 30 years so i was able to avert disaster and make it home safely.

While backing-up to unload a 24 ft boat, the brake pedal went to the floor.stopped vehicle by applying emergency brake.had vehicle towed to chevrolet dealer.cost $1836.15 to replace all brake lines, plus $85 for tow.

While driving on a main city street with heavy traffic the cars ahead of me started to brake. I started to apply my brakes lightly when the pedal went right to the floor, i went for the emergency brake and pulled to the side of the road. I was able to stop the truck. After inspection the main brake line to the rear of the vehicle was rusted and ruptured ! all of the other brake lines on the vehicle are in just as bad shape and need to be replaced also.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. The contact stated that while driving 5 mph into a residential driveway, the brake pedal abnormally traveled to the floorboard. The contact inspected the vehicle and discovered that the brake lines were completely rusted and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted and an appointment was secured for the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer. The failure and current mileages were approximately 109,000.

To start off, my brake line are severely corroded as the was a new england truck for the first 8 years of its life. After sitting overnight, i went to drive my truck yesterday. Upon starting it, i received the message "service brake system" on the driver information screen. I also noticed the brake light was on and that the pedal went to the floor. I went under the hood and noticed the brake master cylinder was empty and several of the brake lines were wet with brake fluid. I had just checked my brake fluid (with all of my other fluids this week as i was on a camping trip when this happened. I looked this up on the internet when i got home and found nhtsa action number dp10003 that discussed this exact same issue. Please advise on the status of this investigation. Thank you.

Tl - the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. The contact stated that while reversing, the brake pedal abnormally traveled to the floorboard when depressed. On a second occasion, while driving approximately 20 mph, the brake pedal abnormally traveled to the floorboard when depressed and as a result, the vehicle crashed into a tree. A police report was not filed. There were no injuries reported. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that the brake lines were rusted and corroded. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 90,000. Pm

While backing out of a driveway my brake pedal went all the way to the floor. No warning light came on. I backed into a tree because i could not stop. Bent my bumper into the fender. Upon investigation i found the metal brake tube under the driver side rear had failed and all the brake fluid drained out. It looks as if the hose rusted through. Upon further investigation i found many of the metal brake lines rusted and in need of replacement.

Driving along and brake pedal went to the floor. Pulled over and brake fluid gushing out. Had to have it towed. All of the brake lines were rusted out! almost everyone of them. No rust on truck. No rust on underbelly, no rust anywhere except brake lines and transmission lines. Garage kept and for 6 out of the 10 years, not driven in the winter. Have the same problem with the transmission lines but have not had them replaced yet.had to replace every brake line on the truck. $1000 bill. Have receipt.

My 2003 chevy silverado 2500 hd 4wd long bed pickup truck experienced complete failure of (hydraulic boost) brake system at 35 mph. Brake lines were corroded heavily and condition of brake lines verified by gm dealership. Vehicle is registered and driven primarily in virginia. Owner has never received any communication from manufacturer regarding potential problems.

Put the brakes on in town of greenville and they went straight to floor.rear brake line blew over the top of the fuel tank.

While my truck was being serviced, the mechanic noticed that the steel hydraulic brake lines were severely corroded and rusted at the driver's side frame.the mechanic stated that the lines could rupture at any time due to the amount of heavy rusting.the brake lines appeared to be in good shape when viewing from the driver's side wheel well, but on closer examination, where the lines come down the firewall and transition to on top of the frame rail (below driver's feet) is where the extreme rusting had occurred.upon searching the internet for replacement brake lines, i was made aware of the scope of this issue and the vehicles involved with this issue.i was shocked that there has been no recalls issued for brake lines failing since this seems to be a very important safety issue. Since inspecting my vehicle, i have inspected several other friends vehicles in the affected model years with all of the vehicles having extreme corrosion of the brake lines.i feel that this is very widespread in the rust belt states, but that numerous owners are unaware of the issue.

Went to apply brakes.brake pedal went to the floor, no braking ability.able to coast to a stop with out hitting anything.had vehicle towed to local firestone, brake line rusted out from master cylinder back.$700 for repairs.had brake line repaired last year for similar problem.

In april of '14, a front brake line failed and that line was replaced. On 6/3/14, i had another brake line failure directly under the drivers seat. This affected both rear breaks. On inspection of the vehicle, it was observed that all of the steel tubing of the break lines were badly rusted and needed to be replaced. Further inspecting the vehicle, i also found that the transmission lines were also rusting badly and needed to be replaced.

I was driving on a county road going 30 mph when a car pulled out in front of me i hit the brakes and didn't have any brakes. Babied it home and looked underneath to find brake fluid dripping in the back drivers side back by the fuel tank. We looked and the brake lines are rusted which is what cause the line to break.

I was riving down the a road in georgia. Traffic light at bottom of hill changed (right at that point where you have to make a quick decision), i hit brakes pretty hard to stop, brake pedal went to the floor, vehicle didn't even slow one bit. It was too fast to hit parking brake, went right through intersection swerving wildly to miss two other vehicles. So glad i wasn't towing my 8000 pound boat or i would have either killed people or driven off a cliff. There was no warning or any leak before this incident.when i got it towed home, i discovered that a brake line that runs from junction box under the driver's seat to the left front tire had burst. It had some rust on it, but every brake line on every car does. I have never seen one burst. The proportioning valve did not divide the brake pressure to other wheels, the pedal simply went to the floor with no stopping action whatsoever. Maybe if i was gently applying the brakes it would have worked differently, but hitting them hard, it did nothing. Successive pumps were equally useless.i just purchased $450 worth of brake lines and tubing and i will find someone to replace them and bleed the brakes.i read online that there has been a nhtsa investigation for years on this. I could have killed 10 people. Why is there not at least a notice to owners telling them of this problem. I wouldn't risk lives over $1000, i would have had it fixed. Please tell me how i can contact someone beyond this complaint. Owners knowing about this would save lives.

About 2 weeks prior to my incident my father had the same issue. We both own 2500 hd 2003 chevy trucks bought on same day. My incident was i was leaving my sisters house and started my truck backed up then put truck in drive started forward there is a stop sign close to the driveway so i started braking but peddle went to floor so i did it again same thing no brakes. So i used e brake to stop myself got out and sure enough busted brake line under cab drivers side door same place my fathers busted a couple weeks be for mine. He local garage where my dad had his fixed said he have changed several brake lines with same problem. Also net and found this is common. Way is there not a recall on this yet could be a very serious issue and life threatening.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500hd. The contact stated the entire brake line around the vehicle was rusted and corroded. As the brake was being depressed, the brake pedal went all the way to the floorboard causing brake fluids to leak out. The dealer was notified who stated there was no recall and he would have to pay for the repairs. The manufacturer was not notified. The vin was unknown.the failure mileage was 110,000.

Went to dealer for oil change.they indicated brake lines were getting rusty and needed to be replaced.a few weeks later a brake line burst while pulling in the driveway.after a bit of research on line (web) and talking to gm and their customer service dept., it is clear that this is a large wide spread problem.there are many hundreds of thousands of chevy trucks with faulty brake lines.this should absolutely be a recall.this is an obvious materials defect from new that shows itself after a few years.no other car i own, (two that are older and higher miles), have this problem.i will sue gm after i replace these lines.as a physicist and expert mechanic, this is an obvious materials defect with significant danger and safety issues.nhtsa and gm will both be culpable for injuries and death in not protecting the public from this obvious danger.the brake lines crumble in your hands after 9 years of use, totally unacceptable.gm admitted to me that they used bad materials and blamed it on using foreign metal suppliers.this does not admonish them from their responsibility.come on nhtsa, make gm stand up and recall these potential death traps.the least you can do is let people know their brake lines could burst at any time with no warning.

My abs brakes are failing with 65,000 miles on the truck. My mechanic said there is a recall. I checked with my dealer which told me it's only on 1/2 ton trucks, mine is a 3'4 ton. With this being such a safety hazard, why isn't it cover on all the trucks if they admit there is a problem?

2003 silverado 2500hd. The abs system activates at low speed on dry pavement during a normal stops which causes the vehicle to travel farther than expected and requires extra pedal pressure to complete the stop. I've had it checked and it is in the left front and actives at 3 mph. It gives no lights or codes. The recall goes up to 2002 (recall 05v379000) but doesn't include the 2003. The description says it all, but i don't understand why i can't be under this recall when i have the same symptoms. I even live in that region.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. The contact was driving 10 mph into a parking lot but was unable to engage the brakes. The contact mentioned that the pedal was depressed into the floorboard and once he inspected the vehicle, he noticed that the brake lines were corroded. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer and the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 53,000.

Came home from getting fuel, backed up to attach trailer brake pedal went to floor, inspected and found steel brake line failed due to corrosion.

While stopping at a stoplight a mile from my home, i noticed the brakes seemed soft on my 2003 chevy silverado 2500hd diesel with 95,000 miles.after coming to a stop i pumped the brakes and felt and heard the brake line burst as the pedal went to the floor.the brakes were completely gone.using the emergency brake i was able to turn around and make it back to my home where i parked the truck and it hasn't moved since.i crawled under the truck and discovered that the rusty brake line going from the master cylinder to the abs unit just below the divers side door, had bust open and failed.the other brake lines also appear very heavily rusted, and after this experience i would not drive the truck again until they are all replaced.in all my years of living in new england and owning several gm vehicles, i have never had to replace brake lines due to rust or corrosion.i feel very lucky not to have been moving when that particular line burst. I would have been unable to stop as it caused a immediate and complete failure to the braking system.it seems clear to me that a higher quality brake line should be used to prevent this from happening.

Rusted and leaking brake lines on a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500hd 4x4.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the power steering failed causing the steering wheel to become hard to maneuver. The contact heard an abnormal sound coming from the hydro boost area when the brake pedal or accelerator pedal were depressed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed that the intermediate shaft was faulty. The intermediate shaft was replaced however, the failure recurred. The contact requested the dealer to replace the power steering pump but the dealer informed the contact that the failure was caused by the power steering pump. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 115,000.

Brake line to rear end burst causing my truck to be unable to stop at a red light. Fortunately, no cars were coming the other way.

Brake lines corrode easily which leads to leaking and loss of brakes under normal driving situations. This is the second time i've had to replace a section of brake line.

I noticed that the was a leak under my truck in the driveway and to my surprise it was a brake line and as i started looking under the truck all the brake lines were visually in similar shape. This is on a 2003 silverado with 62000 miles, so i am now replacing all the lines because if i didn't see the drip it could have been a catastrophic accident with a 7200 pound truck.

2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. Brake lines beneath driver seat along frame rail burst while in my driveway. Thank goodness i was not on the road. Within a minute or two, master cylinder completely emptied, and no brakes at all. Currently at pallone chevrolet in springfield va. Awaiting repair.

Complete loss of brakes due to ruptured brake line driver side.pumped brake pedal to get pressure built back up in order to bring truck to a stop.upon inspection some of the brake lines are badly rusted including the line that ruptured.other brake lines appear fine, no rust.gm must have had a bad quality control program when the vehicle was built.how would some brake lines be fine and others have complete rust out?did gm have multiple suppliers for these brake lines?the vehicle is a 2003 chevrolet 2500hd 2wd ext cab pick up truck.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 mph the brakes were applied but the vehicle would not stop. The vehicle rolled to a stop with the assistance of the brakes on a trailer it was hauling. The contact exited the vehicle and noticed brake fluid leaking from under the front drivers side door. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. There wasan investigation under nhtsa action number: dp10003 (service brakes, hydraulic). The failure and current mileages were 55,000.

Have 38,597 on my 2003 chevy sil hd 4x4, had to replaced all brake rotors, brakes, calipers. Rusted so bad they were not working?drive shaft and all upper and lower control arms and frame rusted? like its 50 years old. Live in va? worst i've ever seen!something should be done, did my metal come from china?

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. While driving approximately 10 mph, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard upon engagement and failed to respond. The vehicle continued to accelerate until after the parking brake was engaged which resulted in the vehicle stopping. The contact was a certified mechanic who performed a temporary repair on the vehicle and resumed operation. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 99,967.

I had a brake line fail on my 2003 chevy silverado 2500hd crew cab 4x4.the line failed above the gas tank.there was no accident as i noticed the pedal softening and fluid leaking.the line corroded and leaked.

At speeds at or below 10 mph the abs comes on in all types of weather causing longer stopping distances allowing the truck to go into oncoming traffic or hitting the car ahead.the pedal goes almost to the floor.

Brake line failure due to rust out, 35,000 miles on pu truck. This could have been serious if it happened on the highway or road. After doing research on line i found hundreds if not thousands of failures for brake line rust outs for this period of time 1999-2004, this is a 2003 chevy pu up, not a 1959 pickup! i am dismayed that there is not a recall on this severe safety problem!

The abs system activates at low speed on dry pavement during a normal stop which causes the vehicle to travel farther than expected and requires extra pedal pressure to complete the stop. This has resulted in numerous near-misses to vehicles in front of me at intersections, parking lots, etc.

This is the second time the brake lines broke while driving. First time had to stop sudden almost hit car in front of me,replaced one line, no replacement lines available at the time . Second time was this morning 12/6/11 put brakes on to avoid animal different line ruptured . Getting tired of it . There should be a recall or at least a place i could get replacement lines. Furthermore the vehicle is garaged overnight in the winter ,vehicle has never been near salt water.

I had to have the steel brake lines on my truck replaced due to corrosion. Since i caught the problem in time there was no recordable incident but this should not change the fact that this should be a safety issue.

On my 2003 chevy silverado 2500hd with vortec 8100 (496 in3) engine, the power steering pump also acts as the power source for the brake booster (i believe).thus, many times when i have my foot on the brake there's a partial loss of power steering.in order to fully regain the power steering, i have to let my foot up off the brake pedal.this power-steering-pump-as-brake-booster set-up is unique to this engine.so far, i have been able to get by without experiencing a critical situation.the loss of power steering was worse before i replaced the serpentine belt two years ago (<10,000 miles).i had goodyear install a high-quality belt they manufacture themselves. Cold weather start-up conditions are the worse; thus in cold weather i prefer to let the engine warm up to eliminate the potential for loss of power steering. I just think that owners of this vehicle (with the 8100 engine) should be fully aware of this problem.

Lost all braking ability. Found severly rotted brake line . This has also occurred 2 additional times ater first issue.

2003 chevy silverado truck. Brake rotors rotted and rusted and replaced at 9,000 miles and 3 years old. Very dangerous situation. At 5 years old and 13,000 miles all brake lines rusted and failed almost leading to a crash. Both repairs very costly. Truck is a hunk of junk, i want to sell it but feel bad sticking the next guy with this junk. Something should be done.

My 2003 silverado 2500 hd with only 55k miles on it did not pass a recent safety inspection due to corroded brake lines.the truck gets very little use and i find this to be very disturbing that brake lines are failing without warning.had i not gotten an inspection i would not have been notified of this emminent and dangerous problem.

I own a 2003 chevy silverado 2500hd pick upw/ a little over 50,000 miles. This winter while driving the break pedal wentstraight to floor and could not stop. A snow embankment stoppedme luckily with no injury and no damage to the vehicle. The vehicle was brought to a nearby chevroletdealer where it was determined that the brake lines had corroded right through the calipers were corroded at the bleeder valve and rotors were delaminating . The dealership said that it is common with these vehicles. I cannot see a 7 year old vehicle w/ low miles having such a main major system failure as this. The cost for repair would be $3,200 i cannot afford this so the vehicle (which is mint condition) is now sitting in the drive way.

Brake lines corroded causing lack of braking ability. Vehicle is a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500hd with 51848 miles.brake lines were replaced, as all were corroded (material problem).

I use this truck to pull a 2-horse gooseneck trailer and had literally just unloaded two horses and unhooked the trailer.when i got back into the truck to leave the barn, there were no brakes and fluid was leaking all over the driveway and truck.very scary and extremely dangerous.had this occurred moments before while pulling the loaded trailer on the highway, i am almost certain that my self and/or someone would have gotten seriously injured or killed, not to mention the safety of the horses.there were suddenly no brakes.i pulled the truck onto the grass and came to a stop.it is still sitting there but has been examined by two people.completely rusted out brake lines.i am now informed that this is a known issue with this make and model.please issue an immediate recall.thank you.respectfully, julie miller

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd.the contact was driving in reverse approximately 5 mph and applied the brakes.the brake pedal depressed into the floorboard abnormally and the contact discovered that brake fluid was leaking from the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken for diagnosis or repairs.the failure and current mileage was 120,000. The brake lines failed due to rust. 08/19/11

The brakes failed on my 2003 silverado 2500 hd due to brake line corrosion.i purchased the truck new in september 2002.luckily, my son, who was driving, had just pulled out of the driveway and was able to return safely home.i had the truck towed to the local chevrolet dealer in winchester, kentucky, who diagnosed the problem as corroded brake lines and replaced them.i found several references to the same problem via google search and the nhtsa incident ea11-001, which describes the same symptoms i experienced.

I bought my 2003 silverado new. No complaints until 2008 when the brake rotors and calipers started rusting.toward the end of the yeari replaced the front rotors with new and exercised the calipers. I drove it a month and the rear brakes were acting up. I parked it until 2009 and tried driving it again. The rear brakes were acting as if they were not even there. I removed the wheels and found nothing but rust. Not just surface rust but deep pitted rust on the rotors and calipers. I replaced the rear rotors and calipers, installed new pads and bled the system, front and rear. Also noticed the brake lines are severely rusted but did not change them yet. I drove the truck for a week and was pleased with the way the brakes were working. Then the anti-lock brake light came on followed by the regular brake light. Everything looked normal, fluid level, no leaks, brakes seemed to work ok but wasn't going to chance it. I parked the truck and called the dealer and they said the only recall was for front abs sensors. How can a vehicle with less than 35,000 miles have its brakes turn into a ball of rust ! i owned a 88 silverado with 210,000 miles with no problems with the brakes. They must be using cheap chinese rotors and calipers. I'm luckier than most, i haven't had any close calls. I'm just disappointed in gm accountability. Hope you enjoyed your bonus i gave you.

This is the second time the brake lines have failed on this vehicle and a report issued to nhtsa. This time, my son was driving and applied the brakes to stop at a stop sign.the brake pedal went to the floor.he went through the stop sign, crashed into a median that slowed him down, and ended up on top of the median.thank goodness the truck was empty and no one was using the right-of-way at the intersection.inspection showed yet another corroded brake line.this brake line was oem.the brake lines were replaced after the previous incident look fine and are not corroded.it appears that all of the brake lines need to be replaced to correct this safety defect.the consumer stated he experienced hydraulic brake failure at 51,848 miles due to corroded brake lines. The lines burst in an area that was weakened by corrosion and failed under normal usage and brake line pressure. There was no indication that failure was eminent.the dealer replaced the rusted brake lines from the master cylinder. Updated 04/03/13

While traveling on i-95 at approximately 50mph traffic in front of me stopped to avoid road way debris. When i applied my brakes the pedal went to the floor. Pumping didn't help although the truck did slow down before hitting the vehicle in front of me. Luckily no one was injured. My truck sustained many thousands of dollars to the front end. The dealer tells me that the brake line burst and all brake lines are corroded and need replacing. There were no prior brake problems.

Vehicle stopped while waiting for fuel pump.pressed brake pedal, and brake pedal went to the floor.during fill-up, inspected under vehicle and saw fluid dripping from front end.identified liquid as brake fluid.rear brakes still functioned minimally.took into mechanic.front brake line had failed.nearly entire brake line was severely corroded.at mechanic's suggestion based on safety, replaced all brake lines -- $2100 (approx $300 parts, $1700 labor).mechanic applied undercoat spray to brake line as rust protection.i kept a section of brake line.note: previously owned 1991 chevrolet c1500 had similar failure on the brake lines around the rear differential.

Rusted out brake lines with subsequent loss of brakes.this is the second time the brake lines failed.lines were replaced. Damaged lines were saved and are available for inspection.dimmitt chevrolet and general motors customer assistant center refused to investigate this problem!

Brake lines in my chevrolet 2500hd 2003 burst.the amount of rust is very excessive.the amount of complaints about the same issue is astounding.

While backing to attach a single axle trailer, trying to stop the brake pedal went to the floor and no brakes. Finding a rusted brake line had broken.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. While driving approximately 50 mph, the contact noticed a deer in the road and immediately engaged the brake pedal.the brakes did not respond andthe vehicle continued to accelerate. The vehicle was driven off the road and over a ditch in order to stop and avoid crashing into the deer. The contact suffered no personal injury. The vehicle sustained no damage and was towed to the residence. The contact inspected the vehicle and stated that the rear brake line was completely rusted. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the defect. There was an open and closed investigation for the failure under nhtsa action number: dp10003 (service brakes, hydraulic). The approximate failure mileage was 144,000.

Inferior brake performance of chevy. 2500 trucks.the brakes are inadequate and wear out pre-maturely, causing un-safe braking performance.contacted g.m. Customer service and they agreed to take care of problem:which was approved and denied twice.contacted area district service rep for g.m. And he also denied a problem with brakes.spoke with dealer service manager and he said it is an ongoing problem with g.m. Brakes;the manufacture will not admit a defect in inferior brake quality. The brakes degrade gradually, with very few miles:15,000- 20,000 miles.

Smoke from right rear wheel. Took to dealer stated axle oil seal leak onto brake pads and rotor. Stated left rear rotor needs replacement due to corrosion and being too thin. Problem these brakes and rotors have never been replaced with 41000 miles. How can the rotor be to thin turn when it was never turned before. Dealer stated will have to buy a $380 dollar rotor out of pocket. Contacted chevrolet assistance they stated not covered on my extended gmpp warranty. Why are other vehicles like this getting there rotors replaced under warranty? vehicle sat at dealer from april 10 to april 25 with no work done.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. The contact was driving 35 mph when the brake was depressed and the vehicle exhibited an unusual humming and rubbing from the brakes. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who was unable to locate the cause of the failure.after inspecting the brake lines and hoses, he contact found corrosion and rust. The mechanic stated that he could replace the lines and hoses but the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact referenced a concurrent investigation of the defect that could have been related to the failure under nhtsa action number: ea11001 (service brakes, hydraulic service brakes, hydraulic: foundation components: hoses, lines/piping, and fittings). The failure mileage was 75,000.

2003 silverado 2500hd brake line failure do to corrosion in lines from master cylinder to rear brakes. This happened under normal driving conditions.

Sudden brake line failure on 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500hd - brake lines ruptured due to rust. To correct, needed to replace all brake lines on truck, as the remaining lines were near failure as well. I see there is an open ea11001 on this, and i wanted to let someone know i have the very same issue.

Moving at 30 mph towards intersection with light , went to slow down and brake pedal went to the floor( no brake response). Applied the parking brake and the truck swerved sideways. Fortunately there was no traffic coming the other way. This was a very serious near miss. Sudden failure of braking system. This needs a recall asap as its happening on too many of these chevy trucks.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. The contact stated while driving approximately 70 mph, he applied pressure to the brake pedal and the pedal depressed to the floor. The vehicle was coasting to a stop when smoke began to rise from the engine. The contact engaged the parking brake to stop the vehicle. The contact examined the vehicle and noticed the brake lines fractured under the engine compartment, causing a small fire. The vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop where the contact was told the brake lines were very corroded. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileages were 160,000. The vin was unavailable.

The brakes failed without warning, i.e., were operating perfectly fine up until the failure and no warning light came on.had truck towed to our dealership; all brake lines were replaced at a cost of almost $1500.regular maintenance performed on truck throughout its life by the same dealership.gm refuses to cover cost.have another chevrolet silverado 2500hd, a 2004, and will need to have dealership check the brake lines on that truck and possibly replace the lines, for additional cost.could have been killed; could have killed others.never received any communication from gm, chevrolet or the dealership about making sure that i have the brake lines replaced or inspected.i am in a "salt belt" state.

This vehicle failed state safety inspection due to corroded brake lines and leaking exhaust around head gasket.

2003 chevrolet silverado 2500hd, 6.0 4wd ls. Current mileage: 94,000 miles. Vehicle is well out of warranty.in iowa. 1st owner.brake failure or really spongy brakes. Requires multiple pedal pumps to slow vehicle down or applying brake pedal to the floor to stop at stop sign in city driving.i removed the front tires and inspected the pads and rotors. Front pads had 75%+ material on them. The inside of each rotor had 50% contact surface on them.i took them into o'reillys in council bluffs, iowa where they turned them down enough to clean up both sides of rotors.rotor were rusting and flaking.i have not inspected rear rotors or pads as of yet. Was told by technician that chevrolet had problems with rotor.after replacing turned rotor and installing new pads brakes go unchanged. Inspection of rear rotors and pads will occur 22 june 2009. With numerous complaints concerning a major safety issue, gm/chevrolet should invest in dealing with correcting this issue to avoid losing their loyal customers. I understand that a few here and there, but when multiple chevy site say the exact same thing....how many of us silverado owners haven't posted on here???i love my silverado and will try to keep it until the wheels fall off...ok wrong choice of words....but if there is a means to correct this, whether if it is on the 1500 to the 3500hd, especiallybrake system, gm/chevrolet needs to roger up and fix this!having brakes are important, unless your a crash test dummy!!!!

The brake line has rusted through on the drivers side in more than one place. Who has to die before this is recalled.

Went out to the truck, started it and brake pedal went to floor along with a warning beep indicating a problem with the brake system.no symptoms prior to this was given, which is very scary as i could have been driving when the failure occurred.had it towed to dealership, upon inspection (word for word from invoice)"brake line from abs to unit to rear axle and one rusted thru from master cylinder to abs unit, other lines from abs unit very rusty also, replaced all rusted brake lines, free up brake bleeds and bleed brake system, road tested and rechecked okay"this kind of failure should be unacceptable, truck with this low miles and age, really?cost to fix $1,010.64 with tow.the dealership replaced the lines with brake lines that will never corrode, why wasn't this done at factory to begin with?i regularly tow heavy equipment, granted the trailers have brakes, but this issue should be recalled immediately before someone gets hurt.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd.the contact started the vehicle and noticed that the abs light was illuminated on the instrument panel.he took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the abs electronic brain failed.the repair cost was quoted at $1,300.the failure mileage was 83,000 and current mileage was 83,400. I'm currently replacing more brake lines as they have failed and started to leak. The first time this happen was in 2009 where my brake pedal went to the floor after making a sudden stop to avoid hitting a deer. It blew out a corroded brake line. I've replaced the rotors in 2009 cause they were all rotted out from the inside area, and now the brake lines near abs module need to be replaced because they are leaking and pedal and abs keeps pushing in too far and abs goes off prematurely. My frame has bad rust all over it and i am very meticulous about cleaning my truck off when road salt is on it. The under chassis has corrosionon the cross members, frame, and torsion bars, it all looks bad. Though i have an extended warranty through a third party and have had many other parts replaced through them due to failure, they do not cover cost of brake lines due to rot.

Brake lines ruptured causing failure of braking system on my 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500hd. This truck has only 45,000 miles on it. Chevrolet told me that this was normal wear. I then asked them if it was normal for a person who bought one of their vehicles to expect a life endangering situation after only 45,000 miles, and they said yes. This is on tape, as theyasked me if they could tape my phone call, and i agreed.

Brake lining has premature rust, in which, caused it to leak and failed to stop vehicle.i was the fourth vehicle to pull up to a red light, when i noticed that i didn't have any brakes.the speed limit is 45 mph at this road location and i was trying to slow my acceleration to come to a stop.the brake went to the floor on my first attempt to slow down and come to a stop.i did not have time to stop my truck before hitting the smaller car in front of me!i swung my truck to the burm of the road and passed all the vehicles stopped at the red light, eventually going through the light by way of the burm of the road.my driver side mirror was broken in this incident.the brakes did slow me down and allow me to come to a stop with the use of my emergency brake but, it was after my vehicle passed all the cars stopped at the red light and me stopping in the middle of the intersection.lucky there was no cars in the way!the brakes had some stopping power but, were not enough for this size truck and the pedal did not engage till it was just about to the floor. Broken lining has been replaced by inspection mechanic but, stated he will not inspect this vehicle until all the lines are replaced.he has stated that all the lines have premature rust and could break at any time and will not take the responsiblilty to say they are okay to pass inspection.i also, had to replace all 4 factory brake rotors at 14,752 miles.the brake pads wore out prematurely and when i had my mechanic replace them, i was told that the rotors were rusted and pitted prematurely.i still have them, i can't beleive how bad they deterorated! i was surprised with such little mileage that the rotors and brakes went bad.

Chevy truck had total brake failure. Pedal went right to the floor. No brake warning light at all. Got the truck home and looked under the truck. Brake fluid all over the underside of the drivers side foot area.brake lines are severely rusted. Got truck to mechanic and found rear brake lines had previously rusted thru. Now front brake lines had rusted thru. Had to replace all brake lines.i did so with aftermarket ss lines. Front left caliper was frozen. Mechanic says rear brake rotors and caliper need replacing also. This will be the third set of rotors and calipers on this truck. Mechanic also noted that the truck frame needs to be cleaned and coated due to rust. This is last gm product i'll ever purchase.

Braking while pulling a travel trailer and two separate steel brake lines ruptured. In process of replacing all steel lines do to high level of corrosion.

While driving the vehicle i noticed that the brake pedal was on the floor. I was traveling slow enough that i was able to avoid any collisions. Upon inspection under the hood my husband found that there was no brake fluid and it must have blown a line. We added brake fluid and got it home. Upon further inspection my husband found that the brake and fuel lines are completely corroded. He is a corrosion control specialist and knows defective materials when he sees them.

2003 chevy 2500hd brake line failure, the line running from the master cylinder to the abs control rubbed thru and failed in my driveway. There is excessive rust and corrosion on the brake lines in this area. Mine failed 35 inches from the abs control module.

Catastrophic brake line rupture in both circuits of the redundant hydraulic brake system. The failure occurred in a shopping center parking lot. If it had occurred 5 miles earlier, their would have been a 7000 pound machine rolling on i83 with no brakes, placing unwary motorists and the driver at significant risk of injury or death. As you continue your preliminary investigation, you should ponder the possible criminal negligence associated with the failure to report this latent defect in the manufacture of these behemoth machines. At the very least, each registered owner should be notified immediately of the possible fatal malfunction. If it saves one life!!! if it causes one death??? my 1990 jeep cherokee still has the original brake lines at 297000 miles!this is what happens when managers, accountants and lawyers tell engineers to shut up. Remember the challenger (space shuttle)?faster! cheaper! better????corporate usa has already failed, size is irrelevant.being a part owner of gm, can you spell conflict of interest?

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. The contact was driving 45 mph and applied the brakes but the vehicle failed to immediately decelerate, increasing stopping distance and time.the abs warning light was illuminated sporadically prior to the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the instrument panel was replaced. The brake line was also repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 26,000 and the current mileage was 41,500.

My wife bought a used 2003 chevy silverado 2500hd from a dealership about a month ago. We have two problems which seem to be common with this vehicle. The first problem is that the abs system seems to engage at low speed, causing the truck to continue moving forward. I also would smell burning hydraulic fluid. I thought that the brakes needed bled or it had a leak somewhere. I took it to the dealer and they could not find the source of the leak. They were able to tell me that the cause of the problem with the truck not stopping was the abs sensor needed to have the rust removed from underneath it. This would cost around $300 dollars, depending on what else needed done. They told me this yesterday. This leads me to the second problem. I was at my friend's house and when i went to leave the brake pedal went to the floor. I looked underneath and saw a large puddle of hydraulic fluid on the ground. A closer inspection revealed that the brake lines were rusted out. Luckily, the vehicle wasn't moving and nobody was hurt.

5/12/20112003 chevrolet 2500 hd 85,000 mileswhile approaching stopped traffic began to brake when brake pedal went all the way to floor and had no braking ability. Struck the automobile in front of me at approx. 20 mph which struck the automobile in front of them. Luckily no injuries reported at time of incident. $1,500 repairs to front end of my truck and unknown amount of damages to repair other automobiles. Both were drivable although approx. Same amount of damage as mine. Truck was towed from scene. Dealership found brake line had ruptured due to corrosion. All brake lines had to be replaced, $1,600.

2003 silverado 2500hd rusted brake line failure caused accident. I had dealer replace all brake lines.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. While driving approximately 5 mph the contact depressed the brake pedal and stated that it fell onto the floorboard. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed the brake lines were extremely corroded and fractured. The vehicle was not repaired. There was an investigationunder nhtsa action number: ea11001 (service brakes, hydraulic service brakes, hydraulic:foundation hoses, lines/piping, and fittings) that may be related to the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 69,000.

Recently i had a close call with my 2003 2500hd silverado.i was pulling out of a parking lot and applied the brakes to stop but the pedal just went to the floor.i quickly downshifted to 2nd and used the emergency brake to assist in getting the truck stopped.i narrowly missed causing a serious accident.i discovered that atleast 1 of my brake lines had ruptured due to corrosion.i've taken the truck to the dealer and they recommend all the brake lines be replaced due to the extensive corrosion in all the lines.i was able to inspect the problem at the dealership with the truck on the lift.the underside of the truck is in excellent condition except for the brake lines. This is my personal truck.the truck has been kept very clean inside and out and is only used lightly.i believe the lines are defective.brake lines don't typically rust out in an 8 year old vehicle.i don't live near the ocean, so the only salt it may see is in the winter months.this shouldn't have happened and gm should stand by their product and make the repair.

A steel brake line located on the drivers side of the vehicle in front of the tire on the radiator support cross member burst due to rust. More to follow after a complete inspection of the brake system.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. The contact was driving approximately 5 mph and depressing the brakes when they traveled to the floorboard. In addition, there was a massive loss of brake fluid when the brakes were depressed. The vehicle was neither inspected nor repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 68,700.

My 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500hd experienced a major brake line failure due to corroded/rusted lines. While making a hard stop in traffic the line ruptured, pedal went to floor and fluid leaked out of the brake line directly under the driver's side of the cab. My brake lines need to be completely replaced, as they are all exhibiting heavy rust damage. I know there is an active nhtsa investigation into this specific model and year for this problem.

Total brake failure.pedal just went to the floor with no warning that there was a problem with the braking system.the warning system did not come on until the truck was shut off and restarted.inspection of the brake lines shows that they are rusted, especially at the points where the clips hold them to the frame. There appears to be leaks in multiple spots with no prior indication (spots under the vehicle) of any problem. I just had it inspected a week prior and it passed.i also own a 1998 toyota camray with 250k + miles and have not had any problem with the brake lines rusting out.

Steel brake lines rotted and ruptured causing loss of brakes.the people in front of us were in extreme danger of being injured or killed as they suddenly stopped due a traffic jam.when i attempted to stop the brake peddle went to the floor as the rotted brake line ruptured spilling the brake fluid out to the road.to prevent injury to others i drove the truck into a guardrail at a glancing blow until it stopped.at the time of the accident i was traveling with my 13 yr old daughter to visit her dying grandmother for last time.my daughter was crying hysterically and clearly distraught at the accident.

My 2003 silverado has a great deal of rust on the under carriage of the truck. Most would consider it surface rust, but the brake lines disturbed me. I was worried about them rusting through. Sure enough, while towing my trailer i had to stop for a quick changing traffic light, and my foot went to the floor. Pumping did not help much since both main lines going to abs unit (located under the truck) blew out. I used my trailer brakes to help stop the truck. I had my truck towed to my mechanic and we felt it was unsafe to drive the truck with the other brake lines in the same condition. We replaced all the lines with stainless steel ($350). But since the rust effected all of the calipers, they had to be replaced as well as the rotors. I have the old lines for inspectionupdated 05/11/10.

Corroded brake lines on 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd almost caused an accident.

Anti-lock brake system activating when it shouldn't.while applying the brakes on dry pavement, the last 5-10 feet of braking the anti-lock brake system activates causing the vehicle to lurch forward nearly causing me, on several occasions, to rear-end verhicle in front of me - especially when towing a trailer.

While driving home from work my brake pedal went to the floor on my 2003 silverado hd2500. I crashed into the vehicle in front of me causing damage to both our vehicles. I took my vehicle into the dealership for inspection. After 1.5 weeks there g.m finally looks at it and told me the brake operation was normal. I started to take the vehicle home and the pedal once again went to the floor. I found the service manager and the higher up person say that's normal. Now what? i cant drive this vehicle for the fear of another crash. Gm is no help.

The antilock brakes activate at low speeds without warning. They activate on dry surfaces without actual wheel 'lock-up' occurring. I have come close to collisions at intersections and also nearly rolled into an intersection when the traffic light was red in my direction with traffic proceeding at a right angle to my vehicle.

Steering in 2003 chevy silverado ..intermediate steering shaft. Terrible noise and vibrations can be heard and felt thru the floorboard.had fixed after several complaints to numerous gm dealers.

Steering column is bad definitely is a safety issue chevrolet has no recall on this but wants to charge 300 to fix this why isn't it a recalli could lose control of the vehicle.

Ignition switch locks up occasionally and makes the abs service brake light come on.

My 2003 chevrolet 2500hd truck has had the power steering pump go out three times.

Dt*: the contact stated there was a rattling noise in the vehicle.the service dealer previously greased the intermediate steering shaft to resolve the issue.after the service, the rattling sound returned.

Depressed brake pedal while hooking to trailer preparing to haul farm equipment. Thepedal went to the floor and ifound fluid running down the frame of the truck checked lines and found burst line and all lines looked terribly rusted/rotten. This could have been classified as a near miss since i was on a gravel hillside and had i been hooked to the trailer i would have had a vehicle totally out of control merging into traffic.

Lost all braking ability. Found severly rotted brake line . This has also occurred 2 additional times ater first issue.

Rusted out brake lines with subsequent loss of brakes.this is the second time the brake lines failed.lines were replaced. Damaged lines were saved and are available for inspection.dimmitt chevrolet and general motors customer assistant center refused to investigate this problem!

Body and under body rust and rot to include frame, brake lines and shock mounts.brake lines failed while i was driving, thankfully at slow speeds and was able to activate the emergency brake.

Right side wheel bearing assembly totally shot with less than 57,000 miles on truck.

I was driving down a switchback and the right front 1/2 of the axel and wheel (tire and rim) separated, leaving me riding on the right tie-rod and bumper. The axel and tire/rim bounced off the hood and slammed down the right side of the truck taking out all the glass and damaging the roof and side. I parked it by the side of the road by pushing the emergency break, if i had pushed the main break i would have been in the left lane and over the side of the mountain. The linkage between the right and left sides failed according to the chevrolet dealership.

My chevrolet 2500hd began making noise from the front end at 67,500 miles. The right front wheel bearing assembly failed, there was no accident involved. The worn assembly is available for inspection. According to the repair shop this a quite common failure in the 2500hd. Had this been a catastrophic failure at highway speeds, the results very well could have been insurmountable. The assembly contains non grease sealed bearings that should not fail at this rate.

Could not remove spare tire from vehicle. The cable lowered the tire until the secondary catch restricted the lowering any further. Followed owners manual to resolve issue, did not work. Cranked spare tire back to mounted position. Took vehicle to dealer, they had to cut the cable and unbolted the mechanism from the vehicle. The secondary catch was accessed and released from the side. The unit is no longer functional and a new unit is well over $100. I now have access to the spare but not the factory mounting position. Glad i don't get a flat tire on the highway.

I'm concerned about the poor quality of the hitch receivers in the silverado 2500hd trucks put on the street by gm! i have a '03, and i'm getting a tt soon.the welds are rusty, and look as though they might even be cracked!if this receiver breaks, and i live to, i am suing gm. My atty has a copy and pic of the mal-quality re this receiver, and instructions to go forward. It sure would be nice if gm could find it in their ethical compass to repair/replace these without having to be spanked about it first.

The truck suddenly stopped while backing up in my driveway.i stopped so suddenly that i thought i hit something.i got out of the truck and didn't see anything around the wheels or truck.i got back in the truck, stepped on the brake pedal and it went all the way to the floor without any resistance.i heard a squeezing sound and saw fluid squirting from beneath the driver's side door.the steel brake line on top of the truck frame was rusted and developed a hole from which the brake fluid squirted.there is second steel brake line on top of the the failed line, which is also rusted.the brakes have completely failed.my last vehicle had over 135,000 miles and the brake lines were in great condition.

The vehicle goes into reduced engine power while driving.the engine loses power to about 20 mph. If driving 70 mph it is very dangerous because the sudden reduced engine power will cause a severe accident and possibly kill somebody. This has been happening the last few months.

Tailgates cables needs to be replace it....

Driving down the road at 50 mph and the spare tire and support bracket came off the truck and landed in the highway.it appears that the the 1 bolt that attaches the bracket and tire to the truck had backed off causing the tire to fall to the ground.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 heavy duty. While attempting to accelerate from a traffic stop, the accelerator pedal fell into the floorboard much farther than normal however; the vehicle would not accelerate over 25 mph. The reduced power warning light was illuminated and the contact moved the vehicle off the roadway. The contact shut off and restarted the vehicle. The vehicle resumed normal operation. The failure recurred two additional times. The dealer re-routed the inside engine harness yet the failure continued to recur intermittently. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where they performed an engine relearn service. The failure persisted. The failure mileage was 110,000 and the current mileage was 117,000.

4 rugged terrain t/a lt265/75r-16 purchased at odometer 91681. Tires rotated at 100955. Following happened while highway driving.
