Head on collision hit the brakes and truck jumped. When vehicles hit seatbelt didn't lock right away which threw me forward and into the drivers side door. It was a head on accident and airbags never went off which make the emt's and police concerned do to the damage to the truck..

Truck just shuts off while driving. As if the key was turned off and then won't turn back on. It has happend 3 times in the last 3 weeks where i am driving and it completely just shuts off. Can't get it to start back up and have to tow it home, it will then turn on and run for a few days and shuts off while driving

The electrical wiring harness connected to the turn signal lever was found to be defective causing the low beam headlamps to malfunction and not perform during night time hours.basically, the low beam headlamps would blink out and not light while the vehicle is being driven.the technician found several wires had burn and disconnected from the main wiring housing causing the low beam headlamps to malfunction.this wiring harness is a dealer only part and has the potential of causing a fire within the instrument panel of the vehicle.i strongly feel there should have been a manufactures recall on this wiring harness since it is a safety item.

Gear selector lights and mileage lights dont illuminate on dash, intermittently.

We were traveling south on i-5 when we stopped in medford, oregon to fill up our 2001 chev. Duramax pickup with diesel.after filling up, we noticed smoke and a burnt smell coming out from under the hood.we opened to hood to find wires smoldering.we immediately moved the pickup away from the fuel tanks at the gas station and re-opened the hood.my husband removed the plastic shroud containing what looked to be enclosed wires which were smoldering.i got the fire extinguisher from the gas station attendant.as my husband was trying the separate the wires that were smoldering which were also burning his fingers, flames erupted.we used the fire extinguisher to extinguish the flames.we took the pickup to the dealer in junction city, oregon (guaranty).they diagnosed the problem as the glow plug/intake heater relay assembly failure which caused the fire.it was replaced with a new one.we were extremely lucky that we moved the pickup away from the fuel tanks at the gas station and had a fire extinguisher from the gas station attendant handy at that time.there was also a tanker truck next to us filling up the underground gas tanks when the wires burst into flames.many lives could have been lost because of this incident.we were very lucky.in my opinion, if a part fails on a vehicle (which i know they do), it should not have to catch fire in order to get my attention.

My vehicle would stall out on me at any time for about 2 months it didn't matter what speed i was doing or where i was it would stall out so i would have to coast to the side of the road with no power steering and wait to crank the vehicle back up. Then december 23 2008 i was on my way home and it completely stopped i couldn't get it to crank battery was completely dead and it was at night on a highway. I took it to every dealer ship and every mechanic and noone could tell me what was wrong with it. Finally i looked online at recalls and found that there is a recall for the exact make and model of my vehicle but when i called gmc they told me that there was no recall for my vehicle so i went and paid out of my own pocket to fix this problem. This is a major problem that they have found but aren't doing anything about it for me i mean if they have the recall already for the same vehicle then why isn't my vehicle included?

I have a 2001 2500 hd chevrolet with the 8.1 liter engine.the vehicle will stall in traffic and will not start again.the truck will run rough sometimes will start after a cool down period.this is a very dangerous situation with it stalling in traffic.this is the crankshaft sensor which is covered for same pickup with same engine out of a different plant.they say even though it is the same faulty part my pickup is not covered because it is from a different plant.this almost caused a accident while i was driving as it stalled as i was making a turn.

My 2001 chevy with the 8100 engine would stall at speed and also at idle. The at-speed stall would restart on its own within 3 or 4 seconds. The at-idle stall would require some engine cranking but it would restart.(odometerreading was 105,000km)there is a recall for this engine (crank positioning sensor)however my vin is outside of the recall. Dealer not sure what to do. I had them replace the sensor at my expense. This move resolved the stall problem. It has never stalled again.question: why would my vin not be included in the recall....same symptoms ...same solution as the recall !

Nhtsa action number pe060162001 chevy 2500 hd 4x4 with 8.1 l;stalling at highway speeds, loss of power steering and brakes. Battery/security light comes on when vehicle stalls; vehicle may or maynot start for about 10-30 min after stall; cranking but not starting. Additional, after vehicle is parked it will crank but not start. Replaced fuel filter, cap and rotor, wires & plugs; had injectors cleaned and the problem has not been fixed.

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd.while passing two tractor trailers at 55 mph, the vehicle shut off.the contact was able to slow the vehicle down and maneuver to the shoulder.he waited until the vehicle restarted.the dealer stated that the ignition sensor was faulty and a hole would need to be cut in the floorboard to make the necessary repairs.the contact refused to sustain more damage to the vehicle.the failure mileage was 58,000 and current mileage was 70,000.

Starting the truck start driving at different speeds and the truck just shuts down.let the truck sit for a few minutes and it will restart.search the internet and talked to the local dealership mechanics and they all said that the crank sensor is the problem.

While driving at any speed, engine will suddenly shut off, requiring me to pull off the road (without the use ofthe power steering) and to wait a few minutes to restart the engine. Had one close call, as someone behind me had not noticed my truck slowing suddenly. They had to make a quick adjustment to avoid me. This engine failure has happened about 10 or twelve times. Doing research has found the problem to almost certainly be the crankshaft positioning sensor. Chevrolet tells me that my vin number is not on the recall list. As this is a safety problem, why would only a certain number of trucks be recalled to be fixed?

While driving down the highway @ 75mph the vehicle shut off. This has now happened multiple times and isa safety issue. While in traffic vehicles are having to make quick adjustments to avoid hitting my vehicleand for their safety. I called this into our local chevy dealership here in colorado springs co along with calling chevrolet recallcenter to be told that my vehicle is not on their list.well apparently it should be along with all the other 2001 2500 hd silverado's that are experiencing this problem.

Pulling away from a stop light, the motor and electrical system shut down. I coasted over to the side of the road -- constituting a traffic hazard to other motorists- and re-started the vehicle.there were no other incidents that day. My son and daughter in law report similar experiences on separate occasions.

While driving the truck would experience a shut down and loss of power.merolllis chevrolet in east pt., michigan, became very defiant, and refused to acknowledge that there was a problem.before [xxx] became ceo, [xxx] contacted her office via handwritten communique.iris contact [xxx] in dec,2013,and an appointment was to be arrange w/engineer but never happened. Instrument cluster inoperative. Volts gauge would read low. I had it checked out and the battery was providing the proper 13.8 volts.

The fuel gauge will show empty even if the tank is full. It will go from below empty and the low fuel light will come on and then if you rock the vehicle back and forth it will read the proper amount.

The instrument panel(speedometer, fuel gauge, etc.) is completely inoperable.i've read a ton forums that many owners are having or were(since paid out-of-pocket) having the same problem.gm/chevrolet has reported that the cost for repair is $500. Let me also add, this problem isn't in just my particular model and year, but newer models as well.this is huge safety problem being the operator of the vehicle doesn't know the speed of his vehicle.

Dt: the contact noticed an ongoing consumption of windshield washer fluid.upon further investigation he discovered the windshield washer hosecracked and was leaking fluid onto his battery.he took the vehicle to a dealer, who replaced the battery, windshield washer hose, and motor.the repairs were not covered by warranty and was made at the contact'sexpense.

Dt*:the contact stated while approaching a stop, driving 5 mph and applying the brakes, the anti- lock brake system activated.this caused an increased stopping distance.the vehicle was taken to a dealer. Upon inspection the speed sensor hub was corroded due to road salt and was replaced.there is a nhtsa recall, # 05v379000, regarding the service brakes, anti-lock.the consumers vehicle identification number was not included in the recall.the alternator failed. The rotors and brakes had to be replaced due to the rotors rusting from the inside. The rotors could not be turned because they were heavily rusted. The left power window failed, the manufacturer used a steel cable for the assembly, which allowed water to seep in which caused corrosion. The left rear outside axle was leaking. The a/c idler pulley and tensioner was making a loud noise. The right power window failed. The tires were cracking along the edges close to the rim. Grease leaked out from the cv joint. The rear oil seal was leaking. The rims were delaminating. The cd would not eject from the player. The ignition switch was replaced, the passenger windshield wiper was loose, the multi-function switch was replaced. The accelerator would stick sometimes and the driver side mirror was broken. Updated 07/10/06.

Alternator does not charge after startup on days when outside temp.<30 deg f. Takes up to 90sec. Depending on temp. To start charging... I am afraid it won't charge one of these times, and leave me stranded. Dealer says this is normal for new vehicles, although i or other mechanics i've brought it to have ever heard of this. I am the second owner of this vehicle (40k mi) and my warranty is up in 1000 mi.so i would like this to be taken care of now, before something happens, but chevrolet dealer won't acknowlege the problem. Although they did replace one of the batteries when my mechanic found it to be bad. I had to bring it back twice to the dealer before they admitted one of the batteries was leaking, corroded, testedbad , and replaced it, thought that might solve the charging problem but did not.

Complaint received via e-mail. I have a 2001 chevrolet 2500 hd with 44,000 miles on it, and just had to have power steering pump replaced for the same reason, a broken shaft. My daughter backed it out of my driveway, and with no warning, lost steering and brakes, and almost hit the telephone pole across the street. I have had so many problems with that truck since i have owned it. Transmission had to be replaced, broken rocker arm in the engine, windshield wipers breaking, horn blowing fuses, u-joint had to be replaced.

I own a chevrolet 2500hd equipped with a 8.1 liter engine and allison transmission.my problem began with the engine refusing to start after being driven a short while.this problem did not occur every time but was frequent enough to be of concern.after several attempts lasting some 2 to three minutes the engine would start.the problem escalated to the engine stalling while driving on the highway, sometimes on the interstate at speeds up to 70 mph.during these stalls the engine would sometime restart on its own without turning the key or shifting out of gear.during times of stalling the only way to maintain some control of the vehicle is to shift into neutral and turn the key to attempt a restart.at these times the engine turning over provides enough compression to allow the power steering and brakes to be affective as long as the starter is engaged.

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact had to make several attempts to restart the vehicle. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle was excluded from nhtsa campaign number: 07v521000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer provided no recommended solution other than taking the vehicle to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was inspected and diagnosed by an independent mechanic. The failure mileage was not available.

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph the vehicle stalled without warning. The failure recurred numerous times while the contact was driving various speeds. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis and the contact was informed of a recall for the vehicle under nhtsa campaign id number: 07v521000 (engine and engine cooling). The contact was also informed that his vin was not included in the recall campaign. The manufacturer was notified but offered no assistance. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure and current mileage was 102,000.

Found 4 out of 12 exhaust manifold mounting bolts broken.

My 13 year old daughter complained of headaches. After narrowing it down we realized it only happened after riding in my 2001 silverado. On investigation found exhaust manifold bolts broken off, exhaust manifold warped and severely leaking exhaust into cab. Manufacturer is no help.

1. Brake line (rear) corroded at plastic retaining clip located approx halfway toward the rear axle, lost braking effectiveness no accident2. Transmission cooling line corroded at plastic retaining clip, leaked fluid, was repaired without causing any other damage within 3 weeks of incident (1) above.3. Brake line (front left) corroded at plastic retaining clip causing loss of braking effectiveness at 30 mph, no accident, date of occurrence 9/18/2012 mileage 110k.

My 2001 chevy silverado 2500hd with the 8.1 engine will stall at anytime. It has happened when sitting idle, taking off from a light, and i've even had it happen doing 50 mph. I refuse to let someone borrow my truck because i'm afraid they will panic and get in an accident. It is especially dangerous since you lose power steering and basically have no control of the vehicle. Sometimes i can drive for 50 miles and not have a problem and other times it will stall twice in 30 minutes. So there seems to be no rhyme or reason.i do not understand why there has not been a recall issued for this problem.

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet 2500 hd. While driving at 40 mph, the vehicle stalled and the steering wheel seized. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the crank shaft position sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.

Crankshaft position failed completely.. The vehicle stalled while driving down a mountain pass, would not re-start until after it cooled down.no power steering or power brakes were available during this time due to engine failure. Same issue as your recall campaign #07v521000 and the gm recall campaign #06083

Going down the highway at approx 60 miles per hour. Truck turned off. This has happened several times. All electrical appears to be working. Other trucks with same model year had a recall under gm recall no. 06083. I have the same engine but they say mine is not subject to the recall.

While driving the engine died. It took several attempts to restart. While driving, the engine died two or three more times. Restarted and ran trouble free for a few days. A week or two later it took several attempts to start the engine. It finally started and ran trouble free for a week or so. This cycle has repeated over the past month or so. I looked up the issue on your web sight and noted a recall for this very problem. I contacted the local dealer and was told there were no recalls for my vehicle. I contacted gm and was told the same thing.

Engine stops running in all kind of traffic and speeds, causing a loss of brakes and control of vehicle. It takes many tries to restart. I have found that nhtsaea06016 has called for recall, but dealers will not address this safety problem.this vehicle has the 8.1 engine that is named in your write-up.12

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. While driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning and the battery warning light also illuminated. The contact had to wait for the engine to cool down before the vehicle could be restarted. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 07v521000 (engine and engine cooling). The approximate failure mileage was 35,000.

The crankshaft position sensor has failedthe vehicle runs rough. The engine stalls, may re-start immediately or after a cool down period.

The exhaust manifolds have 6 broken bolts causing a great deal of emissions control. I have spoke with many chevy owners and they are experiencing the same issues. Now we have to replace our catalytic converter this really should be a recall or suit for gm/chevy to fix these problems.i thank you for your time and would like some feed back at [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The rear exhaust manifold bolts are broken on my truck. From a few shops i talked to this happens to a lot of gm v8's like my 6.0l. One exhaust shop told me every "silverado/seirra" with a v8 around 1999-2002 has one or more manifold bolt broke off.i just cant imagine that gm can send out vehicles that they know are defective. They fixed this on later models with larger manifold bolts. But screw the guy who has an older truck, right? this should be investigated, and gm should be forced to repair this at no cost or a discounted cost.

Began having problems with starting the vehicle on occasion.that lead to losing complete power while at highway speeds (65 mph) as well as losing complete power while at idle or slow speeds.the last time it happened the check engine light came on.it showed a code that indicated the crankshaft sensor was at fault.truck was taken to dealership and this was confirmed, however the dealer informed me that the recall (07v521000) did not apply to my vin even though it was a 2001 with an 8.1 l.i paid to have it fixed at a cost of $375.

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet 2500 hd. The contact stated that while driving uphill at 55 mph, the engine stalled.the vehicle was not repaired. The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd.the contact experienced intermittent losses of power with his vehicle.the failure occurred numerous times while driving at both low and high speeds, but was originally noticed at 60 mph.there were no warning indicators prior to the vehicle losing power.occasionally, the vehicle would shut down and immediately restart, but other times, it would take longer to do so.the dealer stated that the vin was not included in the recall pertaining to this failure.the contact called the manufacturer's customer service line and was informed that there was no recall for this failure; however, he was also informed that his vin was not included in the recall because his check engine warning light did not illuminate prior to the failure.the recall number was unknown.the current mileage was 121,000 and failure mileage was approximately 119,000. Truck died at 60 mph.lost all power for few seconds then started again.then would not start for 2 weeks.finally got it to start and put on scanner it said toreplace crankshaft position sensor. Replaced it myself and truck running great.mc

Pickup truck stalls at high speed. Engine dies, brakes and power steering loses complete power. This is a heavy duty truck (8.1l engine) and i was towing a trailer and loaded tractor down a steep hill. Lucky to come out alive. Dealer diagnosed as faulty crankcase position sensor. This apparently is a known problem with this truck/engine (nhtsa campaign id 07v521000) but apparently my vin is not part of recall. Got news for nhtsa & gm: the problem has not been fixed and the extremely dangerous failure mode still exists. A truck with an 8.1l engine is more often than not towing something heavy (horses, trailer, boat, tractor, etc). Stalling at any time and anywhere makes for an extremely dangerous condition. Do a google search on the campaign id and you will see that this is not an isolated incident. Extend the recall to later vin #'s and save some lives.

Over the past few months i have been experiencing my truck completely shutting down regardless of how fast or slow i'd be driving.having to drive in busy rush hour traffic and through construction zones, it's my opinion that this is an extreme safety concern, not only for myself but others.my truck is at a mechanic's shop and the mechanic told me that there's a code in the computer module that indicates a "crankshaft positioning sensor and engine stall" and that general motors has a recall relating to this.when i called a local dealership, connell chevrolet in copperas cove, texas they told me that my vehicle wasn't included in the recall "because i couldn't honestly tell them that the 'service engine soon light' had came on; and that my truck wasn't running poorly (or a word to that affect).i also contacted general motors and they basically told me the same thing.i am having my truck repaired as i prepare this complaint and i honestly and sincerely hope that general motors includes the symptoms i've experienced and expand the recall, and that anyone who had work done by a mechanic other than at a dealership be reimbursed for the repairs.this problem has existed intermittently over the past few months, as mentioned above.the last incident date is indicated below:

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled and the battery warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact stated that after 10 to 15 seconds the vehicle would start and perform as if the failure never occurred. The vehicle also stalled at a complete stop and at times the vehicle failed to restart. The dealer was contacted and stated that his vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 07v521000, engine and engine cooling. The failure was diagnosed by a mechanic stating that it was the crankshaft position sensor that was faulty. No repairs were made when the complaint was filed. Turck engine has a knock that i was told by the dealer and gm that it was simply a cold start knock. However, i was told by a personal friend at the gm tech center that it is really a piston slap, and is a result of the pistons being too small for the bore which could lead to engine seizure/failure, and that gm is aware of it!the truck knocks even when engine is warm.i have begged for a repair under the trucks warranty but have been denied.i am concerned that at some point the engine could seize and cause a serious accident and harm to myself and others.gm seems to think if they pretend it is a different problem, and if they cross their fingers they will save money and avoid a recall.the dealer indicated to me that they know what the problem is and so does gm but there is nothing they can do for me.at one point gm was offering to extend my warranty but renigd because i was the second owner, even though i paid for their extended warranty.please investigate before someone owning one of these trucks does have the engine sieze and innocent people are hurt! incident date is approximate as i have taken the truck to the dealer many times on many dates in hopes of getting this problem fixed because they want me to go away.

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd.the contact started the ignition and the vehicle misfired and exhibited extremely low rpms.on separate occasions, the engine stalled and hesitated.the failures occurred intermittently.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they stated that the crankshaft position sensor failed.the vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign id number 07v521000 (engine and engine cooling), although the failures were identical.the vehicle has not been repaired. The failure mileage was 19,300 and the current mileage is 19,325.the consumer stated the code read a problem with the camshaft position sensor. Updated 08/14/09.

2001 chevrolet silverado. Consumer states vehicle stalled and power and brakes became inoperable *tgwthe consumer learned a recall had been issued for the exact problem he experienced regarding the crankshaft position sensor. However, he was denied reimbursement by gm who stated his vehicle identification number was not included in the recall.

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. Whiledriving approximately 40-45 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. He was able to restart the vehicle as it resumed normal operation. The dealer replaced the battery but to no avail. The contact stated the failure would only occur in dry weather conditions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times but the failure persisted. Most recently, the failure recurred and the vehicle independently restarted. The dealer advised that the crank shaft would need to be replaced to correct the failure. The vehicle was left with the dealer where the contact was awaiting repairs. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number: 07v521000 (engine and engine cooling) but was unable to confirm if his vin was included in the recall. The failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 56,000.

2001 chevrolet 2500hd. 8.1 liter motor, allison transmission. The truck has multiple problems that the dealer is refusing to acknowledge and fix.*la-hard starting when hot. When the vehicle is driven and parked for 10 minutes, it will not start. Engine turns over, but does not fire. After an additional 2-3 minute wait, it will eventually start. This happens on a regular basis. Dealer had the truck for 1 week and claims he can not reproduce the problem. They suggested replacing parts with no garantee of the fix.-exhaust failing. The exhaust was replaced under warranty due to loose baffles. It is failing again with the same problem. Dealer again claims the noise is normal.-excessive oil consumption. I had it in for this problem. The dealer changed the oil and had me come in every 500 miles to check the oil level. It used 1 1/2 quarts in 3,000 miles. This is normal to use this much oil. How ever i tow a trailer and plow snow with this vehicle. During these times of towing and plowing, the truck uses 3-4 quarts of oil in 3,000 miles. There are no obvious leaks. The dealer again claims there is no problem. This vehicle was purchased with the large motor and heavy duty transmission specifically for the type of work i expect it to do.

The truck kept dying so i took it in to a dealership.he replaced the battery and two days later it was dying again.they still haven't figured out what the problem is.*la

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. The contact was driving 50 mph when the vehicle stalled without warning. He was able to coast the vehicle from the roadway and restart. The failure would recur sporadically and oftentimes, the contact was unable to immediately restart the vehicle.the failure was intermittent and became more frequent over time. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who replaced the crankshaft position sensor. The manufacturer was not willing to offer any assistance. The current mileage was approximately 113,000 and the failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

2001 silverado hd 8.1l engine 51,009 miles.experiencing issues associated with nhtsa id # 07v521000.i have had it checked and the scanner shows a crankshaft position sensor failure.i took it to the dealer and was told that they will not fix it due to my vin number being outside the recalled groups. Even though it is in the date range of the effected units.i did some research and found that my truck has the same exact part number of the item that is failing.this has caused me to almost be rear ended 3 times and several other times where it quits at highway speed or in an intersection and i loose good steering and braking control.the last time (last saturday) left me and my 2 children (4 and 7) walking in a snow storm with poor visibility and risking freezing temps and almost getting hit by other traffic. It will usually start again but then runs rough but sometimes i have to let it sit for an hour before it will start.vic canever chevrolet in fenton mi is the dealer that said that they will not honor the recall due to vin number not in their system as a recalled unit and the gm customer service hotline would not assist me either.

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle stalled suddenly without warning while driving at highway speeds.an independent repair shop determined the crank shaft position sensor was bad and needed to be replaced.the contact expressed this incident should be included in the ongoing investigation nhtsa action number: pe06016, regarding the engine and engine cooling.

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet silverado 2500hd. While driving at approximate speeds of 50-60 mph on normal road conditions, the engine stalled without warning. The contact was able to restart the vehicle within a few moments and it was taken to an authorized dealer for further inspection. The dealer replaced the crankshaft position sensor at the owners expense. Although there was a recall on his model vehicle, there were no recalls for his specific year (nhtsa campaign id number 07v521000: engine and engine cooling). The contact confirmed that the failure he experienced was identical to the failures as described in the recall campaign. He stated that the failure would occur intermittently. My 2001 chevrolet silverado hd2500 p/u started having intermittent stalling problems in july 2007.the engine would die and it would take a few minutes to restart.finally in sept 2007 it died on the freeway when i was traveling at over 65 mph. The powersteering stopped and the power brake assist stopped.i was lucky that i didn't have a high speed accident.the truck was taken to the local chevrolet dealer and they replaced the crankshaft position sensor and charged me $420.99. The vehicle only had 37,546 miles on it at the time but was out of warranty. I have not had any further problems since the repair. I contacted chevrolet about their recall # 06083 nhtsa id#07v521000 and they advised that my vehicle did not qualify.i don't understand why since it is the same 8.1 engine and year/model. If you go on the gm-truck.com web site you will see that this is avery common and dangerous problem with the 2001 8.1 gm engines.

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. While driving approximately 66 mph the vehicle suddenly stalled. The failure occurred intermittently at different speeds. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The mechanic was unable to determine the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. Nhtsa recall campaign number: 07v521000 (engine and engine cooling) may be related to the failure. The manufacturer was contacted and stated the vin was not included in the recall. The approximate failure mileage was 94,000.

While driving 35 mph the power steering and brakes failed. The vehicle was towed to dealership to have the mechanic check the problems. Please provide additional information.

Same problem as ea06016. My 2001 chevrolet silverado 2500hd with the 8.1l gas engine experienced the intermittent stalling described in ea06016. It was built just after the recall date so gm would not do anything other than offer to charge me for the repair. The main safety problem is the software bug that doesn't record the bad crankshaft position sensor. The first 20 or so incidents were annoying. When the truck started shutting down while going down a 10% grade on a twisting mountain road it got scary. Luckily i wasn't pulling the 15000 pound trailer that i often pull. The problem only occurs at one particular engine temperature and it doesn't set a dtc. It took me three months of searching the web to find the problem. Gm was of no help diagnosing or fixing the problem even with the recall on the identical trucks that were built just prior to mine. My truck had the position sensor replaced in 2002 with the same design part as the original. The replaced part lasted till 2008.searching the web shows that most of the 2000-2002 8.1l engines develop this problem at some point. Gm makes a lot of money selling unneeded parts and charging $85 to read non-existent dtcs. An 8.1l engine is meant to pull large loads. When the engine dies the truck loses power steering and brakes. My truck died at least 50 times before i was able to fix it. I wouldn't let my wife drive it because she would most likely have killed someone with it. It died going around the same corner 5 days in a row. Turning a 7000 pound truck without power steering is a bit of a challenge.i am a test engineer with 30 years of experience. Without the help of the internet this problem is nearly impossible to diagnose. Gm is of no help. The problem sets no codes and the vehicle runs fine if it warms up or cools down from the one temperature.i replaced my sensor and the vehicle now runs fine. There are thousands of more vehicles out there with the same problem. Hopefully you will re-open your investigation.

Engine quit without warning while towing 12,000 lb trailer forcing me to the side of the road.after a few minutes i was able to restart the engine and continue.failed again shortly thereafter.i was eventually able to get home.scan tool revealed crankshaft position sensor problem.i replaced the crankshaft position sensor myself.

Camper along a state highway 202 in ohio when once again the engine suddenly stalled and i lost all power to the engine, power steering and hydraulic assisted brakes.we were going up a hill and traffic behind me had to suddenly take evasive action since i was no longer accelerating and was loosing speed at a rapid rate.luckily, there was just enough shoulder width that allowed me to pull over within 300 feet.the engine restarted after a brief cool down period but again i had no idea at this time why the engine had died.there were no service engine soon (ses) indicators being shown.what was done to correct the failure; i.e, parts repaired or replaced (and if old part is available),at this time nothing has been done to correct the failure and the truck is not being used.i feel that gm does not have containment of this failure and that additional vin numbers including mine need to be added to the recall.from searching the internet, i have found several other failure occurrences outside the containment range. The old part is available and gm should replace the defect before an accident does occur causing injury, death, and/or litigation.

Crankshaft position sensor product safety recall #06083--2001 chevy silverado 8.1l v8 engine.i have the exact engine and truck, but my vin is not included in the recall.i have a defective crankshaft position sensor that causes the truck to stall occasionally--even at highway speeds and while towing a large trailer.chevrolet refuses to cover the repair under the recall.

I have a 2001 chevrolet silverado 2500hd with the 8.1l engine with an intermittent stalling problem as described by others.the engine will stall at various times, while driving, sitting at stop lights, etc.the problem has been an issue for several years.i noted the recall issued by gm, but my vehicles vin was 5000 past the scope of the recall.the truck was built in november 2000 and delivered in mid-december 2000.i paid to have the crankcase sensor repaired and it appears to have resolved the problem.the pickup has just over 50,000 miles.

2001 chevrolet silverado 8.1 liter engine will intermittently stall in traffic.service engine light is on and dealer diagnostics say it is a faulty crankshaft position sensor.there is already a recall out for this (gm recall 06083) or nhtsa campaign id # 07v521000, however, the dealership says that my vin # is not covered.my vehicle is exhibiting the identical problems outlined in the recall, so the problem is obviously larger than the few vin's that they are covering.

The events leading up to the failure, this failure mode has happened five times, twice while pulling a 12,000 lbs. Camper and three times during normal driving.the failure, the 8.1 l engine suddenly looses engine power and stalls and will not immediately restart. After a minute or two the engine has restarted and normal travel resumed. How often it occurs, since july 24th 2009 this failure has occurred on five occasions..its consequences, there have been no crashes but several near misses have been associated with the failures.the day of september 17th 2009 had two failures.the first occurred while traveling along divided state route at 65 mph when the engine suddenly stalled but i was able to pull out of traffic and restart the engine after the cool down period.there were no ses indicators being shown.the second engine failure occurred on my way home.i was a traveling along state route 35 which is a divided highway but has a great deal of traffic on it.this highway also has several stop lights in the area of beavercreek ohio.i had stopped at a red light and when i started to accelerate the engine suddenly died.traffic behind me had started to accelerate but suddenly had to take evasive action to avoid hitting my stalled vehicle.the group of traffic that was behind me was able to get around me leaving me sitting dead in the middle of the highway with my 4-way flashers on.further traffic was not paying attention and almost rear ended me while i was stalled.i pushed this 6,700 lbs. 4x4 truck off the highway myself to the shoulder and was nearly hit a couple of time during the process.after a very long cool down period, the engine finally restarted.this time there was an ses indicator and i proceeded to drive to autozone where they said it was the 'crankshaft position sensor' failure. What was done to correct the failure;at this time nothing has been done to correct the failure and the truck is not.

Vehicle stalls/stops running without any warning. At times it will restart by itself. Other times vehicle has to be manually restarted. This is a major problem when on the highway or in traffic, especially if you are towing a trailer etc. Had to replace crankshaft position sensor to correct problem.

While driving 55 mph the vehicle lost power and the check engine sensor light illuminated. Please provide additional information.

My truck burns oil entirely too fast.i just changed my oil less than a week ago and my oil level light came on.it was probably 2 quarts low and i only put about 150 miles on it.this is unacceptable.i do have a lot of miles on my truck but everyone tells me this is normal.this has been going on since i purchased the vehicle.i don't know what else to do.

When the truck starts it sounds like a diesel- for about 10 min max- this only happens in the am or after a long sit at work (ie.6+ hrs) we were told by the dealer that its normal and that there is a tech bulletin on it- my father in laws truck (1500) doesn't make this noise and it is the same year as mine.also the new trucks do not make this noise-- i do think that something is going on and that the dealer or manufacturer doesn't want to fix it since its a shame- going to lose more than one faithful chevy consumer.

Motor completely shut off at 70 mph, lost power steering and power braking.motor would not start in neutral. Had to cross through traffic to the shoulder and stop before motor would start again.happened 4 times in 3 days.brought vehicle to dealer and dealer told me it was the crank sensor, they have had to do it before.

Engine knocks on cold start laststed few seconds after 1000mi now knock for close to a minute can still hear after its at operating temp don't think its safe

Since new the vehicle has developed an engine knock, i have talked to 4 other people with the same problem, the dealer advises there is no repair at this time! and advised me that they are aware of problems with the 6 and 5.3 liter engines.i am worried that this problem will reduce the engine life and i am conserned about the manufacturer stance of "no repair at this time"thanks.

Engine stall while driving.the engine stalls without notice while driving and at times will not start for several tries.after using a personal diagnostic tool i found the problem to be a crankshaft position sensor malfunction.this is definitely a safety problem because when the engine stalls at 75mph down the interstate and no power steering to help you safely exit the roadway with minimal breaking ability, this should be a concern and recall!the part at a gm dealership is 110.00 and the charge to get it replaced is not known at this time.

Starting early march 2007, my 2001 chevrolet 2500hd, 8.1l truck began to stall in many and different circumstances.i was first stopped at a light on a business trip then began togo and shortly after the engine died and various lights illuminated on the dash and system warning box. From that point it has continued to stall at different speeds and different times for no apparent reason. It has restarted each time, sometimes after just a minute and sometimes up to 5 or so minutes. To date it has not been determined the cause and no one can tell me how to fix it. This is deeply troubling due to the fact that my wife drives it a lot and carries my three children with her and it has continued to stop on major roads, rural roads, and just anywhere it decides. This needs to be addressed thoroughly!!!

Engine knocks on startup and when warm, which sounds like that of the lifter.consumer went to the dealer and was told that this is normal.it's hard to think that gm would make a gas engine to make this kind of noise.the new 6.0 don't make this type of noise on start up.i found out from the dealer that the older 6.0 have made this kind of noise.gm pulled the engines for inspection.it seems like they found the problem and fixed it on the new models and won't fix the mistake of the old ones.*la

The bolt heads on the exhaust manifolds rust off, the manifold becomes loose and causes a leak that could 1 cause a fire or carbon monoxide poisoning..

Traveling at 65 mph brakes all of a sudden the brakes were applied w/o applying them loss of steering control etc. Evaluating this problem ii saw that the brake pedal was going down to the floor, so i pulled up on it with my foot and the brakes released but steering controldid not resume. I got off at the next exit and very slowly made my way on home. Any application of the brake pedal resulted in brakes locking up and they were applied so tightly that any acceleration could not speed up unless i pulled up on the brake pedal. Upon arriving homelooked things over no power steering unless motor was at high rpm, power steering pump lookedas if it expelled fluid out the breather cap and the brakes smelled as if very hot. Now that this happened i recognized this had happened before but somehow repaired itself, but not to this extreme. I suffered bruises from shoulder harness and seatbelt and some knots on my head from being thrown around i came so close to out of control and a rollover simply couldn't control my truck.

Gear selector lights and mileage lights dont illuminate on dash, intermittently.

I have a 2001 duramax. While driving home one night from kalispel mt, i dimmed my lights for another car and my lights would not go back to bright then my steering wheel started to smoke and my lights went out all together causing me to run off the road. I pulled the cover off the steering column and the dimmer switch was melted. I replaced it at $130. I know my wife's 2002 is doing the same thing.

Fuel blew into the engine, which could have resulted in a fire.

6.6 diesel fuel rail leak. Can fuel dripping on exhaust manifold create fire? service man at dealer said he had another last week. The same rail is apparently used on 2001 through 2004 model years.

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph the vehicle stalled while attempting to change lanes. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who stated that that all eight injectors and the injector pump needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not under warranty and there were no related recalls. No other assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 143,000.

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. The contact stated that after having a routine maintenance performed on his vehicle they advised him that the brake and fuel line were completely corroded. The mechanic advised him that all of the lines underneath the vehicle needed to be replaced due to the severe corrosion. He was unable to drive the vehicle since it was inspected for fear of the parts on the vehicle becoming detached. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 87,700.

I have a 2001 chevy 2500hd 4wd crewcab pickup w/6.0 liter engine, with 54000 miles on it. I continue to have a problem with a sticky accelerator pedal. Several times daily when leaving from a stop (parking or stop lights) i experience the need to apply extra effort on accelerator pedal before it releases. This causes the truckto surge forward or backwards when backing up. G m does have a service bulletin for this #02-06-04-054a. I feel this is a safety hazard and possibly a recall should be issued. I have a friend with the same truck who also experienced this problem and had it repaired under warranty. I would appreciate hearing from you at your earliest convenience.

The fuel gauge will show empty even if the tank is full. It will go from below empty and the low fuel light will come on and then if you rock the vehicle back and forth it will read the proper amount.

The under carriage of my 2001 silverado hd is heavily corroded.the brake lines are leaking and all need to be replaced.i was backing my boat in the water and had a brake line fail.p/s lines are corroded and fuel lines are corroded.i have owned this truck since new and have taken great care of it.the lower cab corners are rusted out as well.this vehicle has around 90,000 miles and is not driven often in the winter months.

Went to stop and brake line blew. All brake lines, fuel lines and undercarriage rotted.

After going to 2 dealerships with complaints of my truck "dying"; which the first computer read-out said "erratic fuel pressure" and the second one saying "large fuel leak detected"my truck finally broke down on me.the mechanicwho worked on my truck was an employ of a chevrolet dealership and was supposed to have been certified on diesels (per their website) did not know what he was doing without a manual, replaced a fuel injector which i was told after the work was completed that it would not be covered under my 5yr/100,000 mile warranty that my warranty book says it is covered.it took him longer than normal since he wasn't certified and had never worked on one before and the warranty should have covered it.

I have a 2001, 2500hd chevrolet silverado truck that is experiencing fuel gauge issues. The fuel gauge floats around at random and causes the low fuel light to come on even when the truck has a full tank of fuel. Consequently, the fuel gauge is not reliable in determining the amount of fuel in the tank. It often reads that the tank is half full when i know that it is close to empty. Therefore, this poses a danger given that the driver does not know if the truck has enough fuel or not to reach the intended destination. In fact it could leave my wife or i stranded on the road and potentially in a dangerous situation. A good friend of mine has the same year chevrolet silverado truck and is experiencing the same issues. Therefore i believe the problem to be wide spread. I have contacted gm customer assistance regarding this matter and they suggested to have it check by a local dealer. I took the truck to a local dealer only to learn that the truck has a bad "sending unit" in the fuel tank. Very expensive to replace because of it's location. After following up with gm customer assistance regarding the know problem they bounced me around to several customer service reps. After finally getting someone assigned to my case, they contacted me once via voice mail. After weeks of trying to return there call and leave them voice mails - i received no call backs. I even called the general gm customer assistance line and told the person that answered to put me through to the person assigned to my case, i was promptly told that she was not available. Later i receive an e-mail from them telling me that they have been unable to reach me and that my truck has 133,000 miles and is out of warranty. They will not be able to assist me. I am a loyal gm customer and feel betrayed, as this is clearly a manufacturing defect that could result in a dangerous situation. I guess gm's is making false advertising claims of "the most dependable, longest-lasting trucks on the road".

2011:i lost my brakes while hauling 2 horses in the mountains of western maryland. As i was traveling downhill, i was extremely fortunate to have been able to turn into a business that was "uphill" an used gravity to stop.this was extremely scary. I had my truck towed andlearned that my brake lines rusted out.2014:i took my truck in to have an oil change and learned that my fuel lines were leaking.i had no warning and obviously i replaced them.i have also replaced my air conditioning twice.

Brake, fuel, transmission cooler, and power steering cooler lines became very rusty and eventually leaked. Most lines have been replaced at this point, and a few still need to be. I bought the truck used in september 2005 with 72,010 miles on it and problem had already started. Fuel level sensor has failed twice, and requires replacement again. Power window motors on both sides have each failed twice. Truck now has over 150,000 miles, and i'm only reporting because many of these same troubles appear to be common on later model chevy/gmc trucks.

Here i am 2016 and the third time i have to replace rusted corrosive brake lines and fuel lines. This time i only put 3500 miles on the truck since the last time. They are on the verge or blowing out, the first two times they did and lucky was able to stop. The fuel line is gone again also. Why??

Lowered my tailgate easily and my tailgate cables just snapped.

2001 chevrolet silverado 2500 hdtail gate cable.right side tailgate cable broke and tailgate fell off while driving. Damaging tailgate and side of truck. Remaning cable caused tailgate to swing out past the left side of truck. Luckaly there were no oncoming vehicles.

Unwanted anti-lock brake system (abs) during low speed braking applications. Which could result in a crash. Recall number:05v379000.

2001 chevrolet 2500hd 4x4 silverado stalling while driving and turning causing loss of steering and braking. Please see nhtsa id 07v521000. I am told that this problem is occurring in many 6.0 trucks and a recall only covers a small portion.very dangerous for a popular work series truck.

Truck stalled in traffic in drive gear. Would not start without a short cool down period. The crankshaft position sensor was replaced by g.m.

Brake line failure. Abs system failure. Light for abs and brake have been on and off since original purchase. Dealers could not eliminate the problem. Noticed rust on brake lines throughout. Currently all brake lines are covered in rust and leaking just prior to the abs components on driver side middle frame rail. Brake lines are brittle to the touch. Currently the breaking system has no pressure. All fluid has leaked from the system.service requested by dealer for noisy and leaking transfer case. Dealer applied grease to the drive shaft.problem not resolved. While driving in 4 wheel drive, the transfer case experienced a catastrophic failure. Unit was extremely hot and the gears were ground out. To my knowledge gm is and was aware that the transfer case fluid pumps were wearing a hole in the case from the inside. Now know as "pump rub".dealers had opportunities to repair and or replace and failed to act to resolve the known damage.

2001 chevy silverado 2500 hd 50,000 mileshydraulic brake lines are excessively rusted and have failedi am now in the process of having to replace all brake lines from the master cylinder to the wheels.brake lines broke when coming to a stop.frame is also excessively rusted.in november 2009 all allison transmission line were rusted through and also needed to be replaced as well as the cooler coil.

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet 2500 hd. The contact stated that while driving uphill at 55 mph, the engine stalled.the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed that there were no recalls for the vehicle.the failure mileage was approximately 78,000 and the current vehicle mileage was 88,000. Updated 08/27/13*lj

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet 2500 hd.the transmissionleaked and vibrated while driving.the mechanic found that the rear extension housing of the transmission had a crack and leaked transmission fluid.gm stated that the vehicle was not under warranty.the transmission an allison 1000 for a diesel engine.the current and failure mileage were 78000.

2001 chevrolet 2500hd truck: in may of 2002 the transmission started leaking at the front seal because of the converter bolts being loose. On 1/28/04 the rear case busted and leaked out all the fluid as well. Gm dealer says defective case. Allison transmission says that gm has a vibration in the drivetrain of these trucks that causes their transmission to break. Who do you believe? any suggestions?

Have itermitent neutral/sliping from stop at operating temp dealer says every thing is ok worried about saftey of this problem have not towed with this truck afraied to do not feel comfortable taking truck out of town

Driving 2001 chev 2500 (heavy duty) allison trans when started to vibrate. Took to shop and rear housing on tranny cracked all the way around. $1,200.00 repair bill.

A 2001 chevrolet 2500k hd with allison 1000 transmission would slow down and eventually stop in heavy traffic on any highway. Starting date of those incidents was in april 2001. In warranty there wereseveral scary situations, by where we had been pulling an rv on interstate highways. Only luck and some experience saved us from disaster.

I own a 2001 chevrolet silverado 4x4 2500hd.i have complained about the transmission slipping out of gear and becoming neutral when stopping after a hot soak or city driving.after a delay it will re-engage, or if you gas it a little it will clunk into gear.the dealer has told me all along that nothing was wrong.he couldn't "duplicate the problem."now at 75,000 miles, the transmission has manifested itself to an obvious state of crap.during a recent day of errands in 100+ degree day, the transmission was slipping out of gear at every red light.unacceptable.

Consumer states gearshift will not disengage; causing the gearshift to fail.

I was driving up an unpaved hill that was slippery from snow but had been plowed. It was night time and the hill is steep with lots of sharp curves. On my way up i noticed my steering became stiff. I came to a point where i was not making any more forward progress and had to stop.(my tires are not the best) when i hit the brakes i then realized i didn't have any. I was able to get the truck into reverse before i started rolling backwards to fast and safely maneuver back down the hill backwards without complications.i feel this should fall under nhtsa campaign id number 05v005000.

Front and rear seatbelts lock so tight sometimes that the only way for relief is to unbuckle them and re-fasten while driving!all four retractors are not working properly.once the seat belt is un-fastened, the seat belt does not completely retract back in.this leaves the seat belt dangling after use and potentially too loose for next passenger.

Head on collision hit the brakes and truck jumped. When vehicles hit seatbelt didn't lock right away which threw me forward and into the drivers side door. It was a head on accident and airbags never went off which make the emt's and police concerned do to the damage to the truck..

No summary listed for above vehicle.

I was towing my boat home with my 2001 chevy silverado 2500hd and as i approached an intersection i applied the brakes and the brake pedal went right to the floorboard!!there was no warning of a loss in hydraulic pressure and no other indications of an imminent brake system failure.immediately upon noticing the brake system failure i downshifted the automatic transmission to help slow the truck down.luckily there was no other traffic as i rolled through the intersection with a 3,000 pound boat/trailer load i was towing.i managed to make it home by altering my route to avoid downsloping intersections and also downshifting the transmission to slow down as i approached those intersections i could not avoid.since i did not have a vehicle lift or the proper tools/equipment to make the repairs, i had the truck towed to an automotive repair facility.their diagnosis: brake line failure due to significant corrosion.repair bill was $260 to repair/replace the corroded brake line that supplied the brakes to the left front wheel!this same circumstance occurred again on 9/3/12 (i.e., same loss of hydraulic pressure (without warning) & total brake system failure)!the truck is again in the repair shop and the mechanic stated the brake line to the right front wheel failed due to corrosion & he also said all the other brake lines, except for the one replaced on 6/22/2012, are corroded "pretty bad."he also stated that the design & location of the brake systems on these chevrolet & gmc silverado pickup trucks is such that corrosion and brake system failure is a very common occurrence, especially in our region (upper michigan) with long winters and road salt.what's worse is that key components of the system (in particular the abs valve) are not easily accessible for service, maintenance or repair, which only adds to the cost of repair.please issue a recall!!

I was driving aprox. 55-60 mph on north bound71when traffic suddenly slowed down, when i pushed on the brakes the pedal went all the way to the floor so i tried to pump the brakes but the truck never slowed down, the traffic was completely stopped in front of me so i had to drive off into the median on the right side and up over the concrete curb into the grass and eventually came to a stop in the grass, luckily there was no cars on the side of the road, after having it checked out i found out the brake lines were completely rusted away,i had to replace a right side rim and tire, right side lower control arm, right side torsion bar, right side running board, and all the brake lines, around $2300.00in repair, the money is not the important thing it's the lives that were almost lost because of faulty brake lines that day, presently the truck is waiting for repairs because fuel started pouring out from under it, after having it checked i found out the fuel lines all need replaced and they will have to pull the tank or bed to replace them ,said it would run me another $750.00 to have all new lines and hoses done because they were all bad.

I was backing out of my driveway when the brake pedal went to the floor. Upon inspection found brake lines rusted and brake fluid leaking.

Approached stop sign, applied brakes, pedal went to the floor...while towing an enclosed 26' trailer with full load.trailer brakes enabled a controlled stop of vehicles without an accident.brake fluid was dripping from area beneath driver's side door along frame.one (1) line is leaking, with all of the other lines severely rusted (visually).

While coming to a stop a brake line failed due to corrosion.i was very fortunate that i was not pulling my trailer.after inspection i would say that all of the brake lines are corroded and are near the point of failure and will need to be replace.

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet 2500 hd. While driving at approximately 5 mph, the brake and abs warning indicators illuminated intermittently. The failure occurred whenever the vehicle was in operation. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 59,000. The vin was unavailable.

I own a 2001 2500hd chevy silverado and last month i had the leftrear steel brake line rupture and as a result i lost all braking power.neither the brake light come on and the proportioning valve did not function correctly during this malfunction since front brakes lost all power. I was very fortunate that the road was clear, traffic was light and there were no pedestrians around. The parking brake worked marginally since i was carrying a load of wet soil home. I truly believe this is a very serious defeat with this gm truck. The very next day i had that rear left brake line replaced and the garage technician said all the remaining brake lines are in a similar state.thank you,[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).'

While my brother and i were towing a loaded trailer, the brakes failed. Upon further investigation, we found all the brake lines were severely rusted and the line to the front brakes had completely rusted through causing a leak.

I was driving my 2001 chevy 2500hd and coming into traffic the truck slowed down and the brake pedal went to the floor.i was able to change lanes just in time to avoid an accident.i pull over to the side of the road and sure enough brake fluid leaking from the rusty gm brake hard lines.leaking at the most common place by the abs pump which is on the driver side behind the front wheel.i was able to drive the truck home with using only the front brakes and will be replacing the hard lines with stainless lines.called the local dealer and was quoted $1,500-$2,000....everyone should send the rusty lines to gm so they can do something about it.

On show covered road my brakes lines ruptured causing me to slam into a tree. The pedal went right to the floor. After inspecting the truck we found all the steel brakes have rusted out and needing replacement. Dealer quote was $1.700.00.

Got home, pulling into garage brake pedal went straight to floor. Hit back wall and back door of house. Anyone if front of me would have been seriously injured. Found brake lines completely rusted and brake fluidblown everywhere. Fyi-i'm a fanatic when it comes to maintenance and upkeep on all vehicles i've owned.

Pushed on brake while exiting freeway and felt pedal go to floor. Downshifted transmission and repeatedly pushed brake pedal to slow down. Was able to slow down since had a good amount of road until the stop sign. Found therear brake lineand burst due to rusting brake lines.

Extreme brake line corrosion will require a complete brake system replacement. There is no way that this type of corrosion is due to anything other than a problem with the materials that gm chose to use.nhtsa should force gm to recall these vehicles for inferior and dangerous components.

I was driving my 2001 silverado 2500 hd and when i applied my brakes the vehicle started to slow down as expected.all of the sudden the brake pedal went to the floor and i had to press very hard to get the vehicle to completely stop.i am extremely lucky there was no vehicle in front of me and that i was not going very fast when the brakes failed!i took the vehicle to my repair shop and they found a brake line near a block (under the driver seat area) that had blown a hole in it.all the lines at the block were very corroded and need to be replaced.they stated usually the brake line blows out in the rear and that my rear line looked to be in pretty bad shape as well but that it had not blown yet.if i would have been on the highway or going any speed in traffic i would have plowed through something for sure... I cannot believe this type of safety hazard has not been a recall!i would think gm would at least send out a warning letter of the failure possibility.i now feel the need to do a random google search for other possible life threatening failures gm doesn't feel the need to notify owners of.very disappointed.

The vehicle stalled while driving down a ramp to highway 41. Power brakes and steering did not work as the engine was dead. The vehicle had to be cranked repeatedly to get it to restart. This was the first incident that i remember, but it happened again many times over the years without warning. Finally this year after some research i found that the problem was caused by a faulty crank position sensor. I learned there was a recall (nhtsa - ea06016) for this but gm said my vehicle was not covered by it even though it was the same problem identified in the recall. I have read reports of others that had the same failure but gm has refused to fix saying the vehicle was not included in the recall. I believe the recall should be expanded as this is a serious problem that could cause an accident.the crankshaft position sensor was replaced and the problem has been solved. I have the old sensor if needed for testing.

Pulling trailer needed to make a quick stop and the truck would not slow down.if it were not for the trailer brakes i would have rear ended a car trying to make a left turn.stopped at neatest gm dealer and found out one brake line had bursted due to rust and corrosion.ended up have to replace all four brake lines to make my truck safe to drive. Cost $800.00.

My 2001 chevy silverado 2500hd with 111,000 miles had a total loss of braking in my driveway while moving the truck from one spot to another. Upon inspection of the truck there was no brake fluid in the reservoir and the area under the drivers seat was wet with brake fluid. Inspection of the brake lines found severe corrosion on the lines. There was no partial braking effort, braking went to zero. I was ready to pick up a new 7600lb travel trailer this week and we came close to a tragedy. Local dealer in gettysburg, pa said there was no recall or "silent recall".

The brake lines break / fail fortunately at low speed while towing boat on trailer. The second failure - also of brake lines - occurred just six weeks after the first.

While in my own driveway, trying toplace truck into drive, placed foot on brake pedal and it went to floor. On inspection of exterior of truck found rear brake line, to drivers rear wheel, corroded and leaking. Found majority of brake lines flaking rust.

All of the steel brake lines on my chevy silverado 2500 hd have severely corroded and are in need of replacement. The truck has not been used off road or in harsh environments and has been regularly maintained.

The brakes failed in an emergency stop situation. A car ran a stop sign in front of me. I applied the brakes hard. The abs kicked in and i avoided a collision. I applied the brakes again and the pedal went to the floor. Brake fluid was leaking on the ground from a ruptured brake line. I took to the dealer and they stated that all the brake lines are corroded and require replacement.

I just finished reading an article on yahoo autos concerning brake problems with chevy trucks brake lines rusting.in 2012 i found brake fluid leaking under my truck. A leak developed in middle of the line to the rear brakes.i repaired this line at this time.in august.14.2013 i had the truck hitched to a 28 ft fifth wheel trailer (truck is rated to haul this trailer) and while moving it on a back country road i found that the only brakes i had were the trailer brakes. Turned truck and drove it home, parked trailer and took truck to local brake and muffler place and paid $292.02 to have the 2 lines to the front brakes replaced. One was rusted in half and the other had a small leak the 2 lines to the abs distribution block from the master cylinder have not been changed yet but they are in bad shape too. If this loss of brakeshad happened on the road the truck and fifth wheel (6000+ lbs & 8000+ lbs ) could have caused a major accident possibly killing someone.

The brake lines on 2001 chevy silverado khd need to be replaced due to rust and corrosion. Luckily the rupture happened in a parking lot at low speeds. There is far too much rust on the under carriage, what is the preventative maintenance to keep the entire underside of my from rusting out and corroding? especially important parts like brake and fuel lines? i have owned other vehicles that are older and have more miles and a fraction of the rust. Gm needs to recall/resolve this issue.

Was leaving for a trip and had my trailer on the back. Pressed the brake pedal and it went to the floor. Looked under the truck to find my brake lines were leaking.

Blew a brake line at 35 mph due to rust and having to do a panic stop because someone pulled out in front of me. Lines are completely rusted out! i have heard of this being a major gm problem!! thank god i did not have my boat or back hoe behind me!!!

Rusty brake lines, they shouldn't rust out and fail thus causing a dangerous situation. I pulled up to my destination and applied the brakes, the brake pedal went completely to the floor and the vehicle only slowed down. I then applied the pedal quickly several times and the vehicle eventually stopped but way past it's mark. By luck there wasn't anything in the way or i would have hit anything in it's path. At the low speed i was traveling it was possible to come to a stop . A landscaping timber chocked the front wheels at the front to help make the stop possible. My biggest concerns are , what if i was going faster as i was just minutes before. When the brake fluid sprayed out of the broken rusty brake line , the resulting smoke cloud was my only warning.,no warning and total loss of brakes and stopping ability.i was fortunate i was going slow when this happened and i didn't hit anyone or anything.

While helping my son move to remove furniture from flooded illinois river home the truck i have owned since new lost brakes . Upon inspection i found the brake line going from the proportionate valve to the rear driversside brakes had rusted through and had failed. Myself and my son replaced the line and tried to bleed brakes with partial success , could not get one bleeder loose but got vehicle functioning to get it to my home to continue working on it further. Had to replace front caliper , and upon trying to further bleed brakes another line going from the front master cylinder to the rear proportionate valve was also leaking, upon further inspection i decided both lines were rusted and needed to be replaced. This vehicle only has 67000 miles and the brake lines should not fail that quickly. All brake lines on truck are rusted and general motors has a very serious safety problem. This is going to be an expensive fix if i have to replace all lines , it has already cost me a lot and i did all the work so far.

Both of the brake lines on my truck have failed due to rust.## vin failed ##

Placed foot on brake and started vehicle. When it started the pedal went to the floor.my son happened to be standing next to the truck and saidthere was fluid coming out by the front tire on the driver's side.shut the engine off.he checked where the fluid was coming from and saw that all the brake lines were rusted.

Traffic stopped quickly ahead right after light had changed to green. Slammed on my brakes, abs went on and my pedal went to the floor, pulled over and found brake fluid flowing under drivers side door. Truck is at the dealers.......... Rusted brake lines.

The rear brake lines rusted through causing all the fluid to leak out limiting the braking power ..this was a very bad situation that needs to be addressed to gm..

Rear brake lines have rusted through causing brake fluid to leak.front brake lines are also rusted and look to also fail.

Driving 40 mph and approached a traffic light. As i began to brake, i noticed the brake pedal felt mushy and with subsequent pressure the brake pedal went to the floor. I pulled off the road to a nearby parking lot and looked under the truck. Brake fluid had gushed out from the brake line approximately under the driver seat. The brake line was heavily corroded and appeared to be in a very fragile state. Vehicle was towed to a nearby gm dealer for service.

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the brakes failed. The contact stated that the driver of the vehicle depressed the brake pedal into the floorboard however, the vehicle would not decelerate. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for inspection where they stated that the brake lines were rusted and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 200,000. The vin was unavailable.

Brake line failure due to corrosion (rust).brake line to rear wheels sprung leak and stopping was difficult.had this been at higher speed, could have fatality.the material the brake lines are made of should not be used to make brake lines.checked brake lines and they are all heavily corroded. All will have to be replaced. Similarly the fuel line is heavily corroded between tank and engine.it is apparent that saving a few pennies on cost of brake lines alloy, is more important to gm than the lives of the occupants of the vehicles.

Was towing a 4200 lb load when the brake pedal went to the floor. No warning light. Pulled safely off of the highway (barely!) and into ocean performance marine - at the end of the i-95 offramp. Left the boat there and had the silverado towed. A brake line ruptured and was leaking brake fluid badly. Still no warning light.

The abs system engages at low speeds causing a pulsation in the brake pedal. I had the wheel speed sensors replaced at dealership and it solved the problem.i did find a recall for this item but they said it doesn't affect my vin #. A few months later i had a brake line break while coming home.took it to chevy dealership and they said all the lines needed replaced, because they were severely rusted.

Severe corrosion of the brake lines leading from the abs unit to all four wheels resulted complete failure of the brakes.the left rear brake line developed a rupture roughly 2 inches long above the fuel tank that made it impossible to develop any brake system pressure.the failed line was replaced by a local chevrolet dealership and the rest of the brake lines were "inspected."the right front brake line ruptured where it passes around the left front wheel well, roughly 2 months later again due to severe corrosion, and again resulting in complete brake system pressure loss.this line was completely deteriorated as well and should have been replaced at the time of the first failure.the size of the ruptures in both cases made it impossible to develop and supply any brake system pressure to the 3 remaining wheels.in both cases, the failure occured when the truck was moving at under 10 mph and approaching a stop sign.the first time i stopped the vehicle by running into the ditch, and the second time i stopped it by stomping on the e-brake and skidding to a stop.had the failure occured on the highway, it would have resulted in an accident involving a heavy truck.this is a truck with a +9,000 lb gross vehicle weight and +10,000 lb max trailer weight rating.it sounds like this is a frequent problem with gm trucks and suvs from this time period.it is also important to note that the truck was located in south carolina from 2002 until 2007 and was only in the northeast for five winter seasons or approx. 65,000 miles.the truck has no cosmetic body rust and no significant rust on the frame or undercarriage.this was a premature failure resulting in a very dangerous condition.i have already replaced my remaining lines, but this is way more worthy of a recall then a rusted tailgate support cable.

Here i am 2016 and the third time i have to replace rusted corrosive brake lines and fuel lines. This time i only put 3500 miles on the truck since the last time. They are on the verge or blowing out, the first two times they did and lucky was able to stop. The fuel line is gone again also. Why??

Brake lines from engine to abs corroded and burst causing loss of brakes.

Going down the highway at approx 60 miles per hour. Truck turned off. This has happened several times. All electrical appears to be working. Other trucks with same model year had a recall under gm recall no. 06083. I have the same engine but they say mine is not subject to the recall.

While driving the brake line ruptured causing pedal to sink to the floor. Upon inspection, all the brake lines were completely rusted and degraded to the point of needing to be replaced.

One of the brake lines has rusted clear through and ruptured when i pressed on the brake pedal.looking at the other lines, it appears that they are about to rust through as well.i have other vehicles that are much older and more miles that the brake lines are like new.there is a flaw in the lines installed on my truck.

When slowing down to stop, while at low speed, using the brakes engages the abs system and steering becomes suddenly difficult.

Loaded truck with lumber at local lumber store, went to move truck to leave. As soon as i started to move the red brake light came on. Got out opened the hood saw almost of my brake fluid gone-thought it was just needing fluid-drovefew blocks to lube service dealer wand together inspected the brake lines under the driver seat where you could see brake fluid all over the line-that has rotted through-had vehicle towed to repair/replace all brake lines. See invoice 166644. Had brake lines replaced cost was $1163.59 and truck was out of my use for 3 days.

I was leaving my property going up the driveway, i pressed on the brake pedal and it went to the floor and no brakes at all. I had my wife pump the pedal and could see brake fluid shooting from a rusted line. I'm glad i didn't get out on the highway. I have never heard of brake lines rusting out! i have cars from the 60's with original lines. People need to know about this issue before some one gets hurt or worse.

While driving on a rural country road i soundly and without warnong lost my power brakes and steering. . steering was very difficult and brakes were almost not functional.i took a great effort to turn the steering wheel and apply the brakes to safely stop the vehicle.if i was traveling in traffic at highway speeds i could not control and safely stop the vehicle..i immediately parked the vehicle and had it towed to a nearby dealership.the power steering pump was replaced. So the power steering pump malfunctioned (broken shaft) while the vehicle was underway..the power steering malfunctionaffected both the power steering and brakes and there was no warning. I feel this is a poor design. Minimally there should be some sort of warning when the power steering and or power brakes are compromised.as i understand it this same issue occurs when the serpentine belt fails.the belt will fail when the belt tensionerdoes.again no warning when this occurs.

Brake line corroded and blew under driver side leaking all fluid out and no brakes. Wasnt driving fast luckily and no accident.

My truck only has 61,000 miles on it and the brake pedal went all the way to the floor one day on my way to work. I called the dealer and the price to fix was $2,130.00 , i watched a news report and even a single owner of similar truck who had it washed every week had the same problem. The truck should have been designed with a guard protecting the brakes.

I just bought a 2001 silverado 2500 truck.the abs warning light came on at low speeds.used car dealership did not know what the problem was.now driving this unsafe heavy truck. Worried i might crash and kill someone if the abs fail

The abs recall when i called gm they told me my truck was not part of the recall but it does the same thing the recall was for at about 10 mph when brakingthe abs kicks in which makesittake longer to stop( i don't know when it started i am guessing with the date).

I was traveling at 40mph and another vehicle pulled out in front of me, i slammed on the brakes and avoided an accident. I went to use my brakes a few hundred feet down the road and the pedal went to the floor. Upon inspection after i got home a brake line had blown out, after further investigation i noticed that all of my brake line are rusted very bad to the point of all of them needing to be replaces asap. This vehicle is only 9 years old, i have a car that was built in 1980 and the brake lines look much better. The frame of the truck looks pretty rusted as well i think there is a serious problem with the brake lines of chevy trucks in the early 2000 years.

I was driving about 25 mph approaching a red light.i hit brakes to slow down as i approached the rear of the vehicle ahead of me (already stopped).the brakes were functioning properly, then when i slowed to about 5 mph the brake pedal suddenly went to the floor and the brakes stopped working and i hit the vehicle ahead of me at about 5 mph.the air bags did not go off.after the accident my brakes worked and i drove home.my mechanic and my insurance adjuster were both familiar with the problem.they said my wheel bearing had corrosion and it caused the abs sensor in the wheel bearing to not work properly and to disable my abs braking system.

Low speed unwanted antilock brake system activation.

I was slowing down, coming to a 4 way stop. That was when the brakes went to the floor board, and i went through the 4 way without stopping!!!! i was very lucky because there was nobody going through that 4 way at that time!!! the brake line under the driver side door had leak do to rusting!!!! also i had just drop off my travel trailer before this happened. Couldn't imagine what would have happen trying to stop 9500lbs!!!!!!!!!

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. The contact stated that the brake line was rusted and corroded, causing a brake line failure while driving 30 mph. The brake was depressed into the floorboard, causing fuel to leak. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic after inspecting the failure and the contact was informed that the brake lines would need replacing. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vin was unavailable. The failure mileage was 80,000.

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. The contact stated that when trying to decelerate there was a pulsating feeling in the brakes which took longer for him to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic whoadvised him that the wheel sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.updated 05/03/11*ljupdated 05/11/11

The brake lines on my 2001 chevrolet 2500hd have completely rusted out.i was backing out of my drive way in reverse and went to step on the brake an the pedal went to the floor.i rolled to the end of my driveway, across the street and through my neighbor's fence.my emergency brake only slowed my speed in reverse and did not stop me.the brake line on the driver side rear is rusted through and broken off at the flange at the rear wheel.inspection shows all of the brake lines are severely corroded and will need to be replaced.i am lucky this failure did not happen at a major intersection or in an emergency stop situation on the highway.

Brake failure.i have a 2001 chevy 2500hd (original owner).i experienced a sudden loss of braking ability.brake line burst near the gas tank due to corrosion.had that area of the lines repaired only to have another burst in the brake line in different part of the lines (just behind front well well) just two days later.this is a vehicle designed for towing.i was towing a large, heavy boat at the time.i was lucky that i still had front brakes and a trailer with brakes.the auto repair place told me they are seeing this same problem with this make and model.

Brake line ruptured while pulling trailer resulting in an accident. Brake line that failed was between the master cylinder and the abs box.

Abs system activates while stopping at slow speeds, makes brake pedal shutter, abs makes noise. This causes the vehicle to not make a complete stop immediately. Vehicle has brand new brakes and rotors.also all brake lines are badly corroded.contacted chevrolet in regards to the service brakes, hydraulic: antilock recall of 8/29/2005 for salt states #49552 - they indicate my vehicle is not in the recall???

Brake line failure due to rust through on 2001 chevy silverado 2500hd led to loss of braking and nearly an accident.the resulting loss of the vehicle for several days while the brake lines had to be completely replaced at a cost of approximately $2000.

Anti-lock on brakes fail going at slow speed and brakes do not work. The dealer said to sand the rust off the sensors, and would not correct the problem.

I want to register a safety complaint with regard to the oem brake pads that were installed by an independent shop on my 2001 chevy silverado hd 2500. The pads were purchased by the shop (levine's garage) in new windsor ny from barton birks chevy in newburgh ny and installed on my truck in feb 2009 in addition to new rotors. I recently smelled brake burning and disassembled the brakes to discover the pads on the drivers side were pitted and scored. The rotors showed no damage. I replaced the pads and returned the damaged pads to the shop and was told they had a one year warranty and it was passed the warranty period. The pads on the passenger side are fine. Both sets of pads have about 90% material still on them. I believe these pads are defective and would like your intervention.

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet silverado 2500hd. The contact stated that he was performing some routine maintenance and noticed that front brake lines had severely rusted. The vehicle had not been inspected or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and advised him that there were no current recalls. The failure mileage was approximately 119,400. The vin was unavailable.updated 3/21/11

My brake lines failed twice.once in 2008 and today 8/8/11.failure due to lines rusting (cheap metal tubing) and bursting when brakes applied.mechanic even stated he couldn't believe that gm was using inferior metal tubing.he showed me a piece of the line and it snapped into two pieces, i mean it didn't even bend it just snapped.

Corroded steel brake lines rusted, caused catastrophic loss of braking.

Two failures of hydraulic pump for brakes and steering.pump has been replaced twice at no charge.total loss of steering and braking.

Problem with2001 silverado 2500hd abs brakes pulsating in low speed stops causing prolonged stopping distance. Refered to local gm dealer, which stated truck was not on the recall list. I am having certified mechanic repair the problem(not gm)asap.

The brake lines on my 2001 chevy silverado 2500 crew cab have all rusted through brake rushed out and i was left without any brakes. Stopped truck with emergency brake and had it towed. What if i had killed someone is that worth the extra 40 dollars for stainless steel lines. Come on you are responsible for the publics safety. This problem is widespread. It's a crap shoot every time you drive.

Failure of brakes on 2001 chevy silverado 2500hd. Ruptured hydraulic brake line to rear left. Lots of rust on line that is visible. Cost of repair 300.00 plus.

Vehicle pulls to right when applying brakes at slow speed.

Service brakes, hydraulic, anti-lock - front wheel speed sensor defect.there is an open recall and nhtsa # 05v379000, this however does not apply to my (and any other vehicles) although the problem is identical and the repair is identical.the above nhtsa# does not cover 2500hd and 3500 series trucks although they are still silverado models.this is the second time my vehicle has gone into service for this issue once in 11/2005 and now 11/2008.

The contact owned a 2001 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd pickup.the contact stated while braking from speeds of 5 mph, a vehicle crashed into the rear of his vehicle, causing his vehicle to crash into the vehicle ahead of him. The brake pedal was depressed but did not engage and the front and rear of his vehicle sustained substantial body damage. The dealer would not provide any assistance. The failure mileage was 130,000 and the current mileage was 134,000.

2001 chevy silverado k2500 brake failure. Driving home on a country blacktop road, road wet from rain but visibility good. Approaching a 45 mph curve i applied the brakes. The pedal was soft and went to the floor quickly. The truck front tires had no brakes and the rears locked up. The truck went into a 360 spin and off the road at approx. 50 mph. The truck went down an embankment and into a swampy area. Upon inspection the brake lines to the front wheels had blown out and were extremely corroded. The gm dealer said there was nothing they could do.the truck was totaled. Approx. $12,000 loss.

The metal line running from the abs/proportioning valve to the rear brakes is completely rusted and failed while driving home. There is almost no braking left on the truck. A stop from ~50mph including downshifting to l1 and using the emergency brake resulted in stopping more than 10 feet over the line. The brake pedal travels most of the way to the floor even after several pumps. This is the second failure. Two of the brake lines running towards the front of the vehicle failed several years ago and were replaced.

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet silverado. The contact was driving approximately 35 mph coming to a complete stop. The brakes were engaged, followed by a humming noise and a no power response. The brake pedal began to fade and then responded normally. The contact stated that there was a failure within the brake system sensor. The failure occurred whenever attempting to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and repaired in 2006. The dealer was notified on a separate occasion for the identical failure and refused to correct the failure. The failure mileage was 113,000. The current mileage was 118,000.

We were just heading down our drive on vacation towing our travel trailer when my husband could not stop the truck. The brakes had stopped working. We found out the brake line had corroded and was leaking brake fluid. We took the vehicle to a local repair shop who fixed the brake line and we continued on our trip. We returned yesterday and my husband moved the truck this morning and another corroded brake line blew! i thank god this did not happen as we were driving our trailer through the mountains or our family would not be here to talk about it.looks like we will be replacing all the brake lines today out of concern for our safety.

The brake line ruptured under the driver's seat due to rust.this happened with the truck unloaded and in my driveway.i simply pressed the break peddle to put the truck in reverse.all of the lines are extremely corroded.

Brakes failed went to floor on 2001 chevrolet hd 2500 4x4. Had whole family in vehicle and brakeline burst on rear. All brake lines rotted out.

Driving along and attempted to stop, when the brakes suddenly failed. Pedal went to floor. Upon checking the truck, the front brake lines from themaster cylinder are completely rusted as they turn and route over the frame to the abs unit which is mounted under the driver seat floor. Upon inspection, all of the lines are severely corroded and will require replacement. One let loose due to the rust and corrosion, and caused a large leak, resulting in the pedal going to the floor and the brakes failing.this is a one owner truck and has not had any modifications to it. The placement of the abs unit and the way the lines are routed exposes the brake lines to all of the road spray and therefore road salt, which corrodes the lines prematurely. If investigators would like to come out and inspect this vehicle, contact me- it has not been touched and is as it came from the factory. This needs to be handled by gm asap. This is a crash waiting to happen.this has already proved to be very dangerous, as the loss of the brakes was sudden and without warning. The pedal goes to the floor with little, make that very little braking ability left intact. If i were to be towing anything or going faster, it would have resulted in a crash for sure. Please keep in mind this is a 2500hd, which is used by most to tow large, heavy items, as it was designed to do. Brakes should not fail in this fashion. This is a universal problem in the snow belt and the owners should be at least warned to check their lines before a crash occurs. Please issue a recall and warn others as these trucks are starting to age and will be failing at an alarming rate. This is a safety nightmare. This is a real threat for those who live in the salt belt-please upgrade this investigation asap before someone gets killed as a result of this sudden brake loss.

While pulling in the driveway, i stepped on the brake pedal and had very little braking.i had to apply emergency brake to keep from hitting garage.inspection revealed the front brake line had rusted through and was leaking.

Driving when a deer crossed in front of my vehicle. Brake hard and brakes went to the floor. Found the brake lines under the driver side rusted out. Requires replacing all brake lines in the vehicle. Severe rust on all lines.

2001 chevrolet silverado2500hd brake line rupture.steel brake line ruptured @ mount point on frame rail under drivers seat upon backing out of driveway on may 14, 2011.all brake lines are very rusted.

Rear disc brakerotors on 2001 chevrolet silverado 2500 hdare rusting to the point where they will have to be replaced for a second time at 68,000 miles.the first occurrence was 7/28/2005 at 38,000 miles, now at 68,000 miles, the vehicle braking performance has severely degraded to the point where it feels like it's braking only with the front disc brakes.i was told by the service personal that the rear rotors and pads will need to be replaced, not because of wear, but because of rust.

Low speed unwanted antilock brake system activation.

I have just experienced my second brake failure due to corroded/ rusted brake lines in my 2001 chevy 2500hd. Both incidents involved normal braking situations approaching intersections. Personal inspection of brake lines shows a leak this time above the gas tank the remainder of the lines in the vehicle show significant amount of rust.

Chevy 2001 2500hd - i have just over 25,000 miles on it.at 16,000 miles i had to replace all the rotors, etc. Because of rust and pitting.this past saturday, i returned from a short errand and i noticed something dripping from the undercarriage in my driveway.i crawled under and notice how pitted and corroded the brake lines were.it appeared that brake fluid was oozing from the lines.later, i pushed on the brake pedal to see how bad the lines would bleed again and the pedal went to the floor - i could feel the pressure release - like something ruptured in the brake system.fortunately, i was in my driveway and not driving at the time.

I purchased a new 2001 chevy hd on august 10,2001. The truck is serviced every 3,000 miles and ithas approximately 57,000 miles on the truck. It still looks new both inside and out. At approximately 22,000 miles the back rotors and brakes were replaced then at about 32,000 miles the front rotors and brakes had to be replaced, and then last summer the back brakes had to be replacedand the rotors were turned. Also sometime within 30,000 - 45,000 miles all the brake lines had to be replaced as well as two different alternators and a window motor. Today (april 20,2012) my wife and i were going to town to get something to eat, when an emergency vehicle pulled onto a street that we were on but was going in the opposite direction. I applied the brakes to slow down and pull over and when i did the brakes went to the floor. Luckily i had room to move the truck to get out of the way and after some distance we got stopped. We nursed the truck home and its sitting in my driveway again with some type of a brake problem.i think that i have reported this before but a truck that is babied and treated like mine with only 57,000 miles on it that has to have three sets of brakes (not counting the original), all the brake lines completely replaced because they were completely rusted away. Rotors replaced front and rear and rotors replaced and turned a second time, and now something brake related broken again should get someone's attention. These trucks aren't safe, and no one buys into the environment or lack of driving excuses. I also have a 1997 chevy truck with approximately 126,000 miles with no problems at all, a truck with 57,000 miles that requires two alternators (not counting the original), wheel sensors, brake lines / rotors / brakes that you had better not trust and a whole lot of money to keep the thing on the road is not a quality product.

Brakes went all the way to the floor. Found out that brake line from master cylinder to proportional valve had rusted and a hole had formed allowing brake fluid to leak out. Second brake line rusted but intact. Am currently looking to have brake lines replaced.

I started the truck, put it into driveand proceeded to the end of my alley. I stepped on the brake pedal which went down more then normal and the truck did not stop until i applied more pressure to the brake pedal which caused the rear wheels to skid and stop the truck, i carefully and slowly reversed the truck back into the drive way and parked it. There was a wet spot in the alley that upon inspection was brake fluid. Looking under the truck there was brake fluid dripping from a rusted thru brake line on the left side of the truck under about where your left foot would be while sitting in the truck. The truck was towed to the chevy dealer to be repaired. The service advisor told me brake line failure is not uncommon in the vintage truck. The tow truck driver told me mine was the 3rd tuck he towed today with the same condition. I do not want this incident report to reflect badly on the dealership who has always been there for me and my family. Bursting brake lines on the highway causes me great concern. I was told the replacement brake line is of the same steel material as the failed part and not stainless steel.

I own a 2001 chevrolet 2500 hd truck.i have had brake failure 4 times within the past 3 years due to rusted brake lines.once while pulling a horse trailer going up and down hills.luckily there was no traffic in front able to coast safely to the side of the road.another time while driving into the city.same thing.luckily no one in front.and recently while driving the trailer again loaded with horses the line had rusted thru again in another place. The truck has been into midas in frankfort kentucky 2 times to repair rusted brake lines.the other two times have taken to a local mechanic.every mechanic comments about the rust on the undercarriage.also the face place for the rear axel that holds the oil for the rear drive has rusted thru and been replaced once because the lubricant was leaking out of it.this was done thru a chevrolet dealer two years ago.the plate is again very rusted and who knows when it will have to be replaced.the truck is not driven very much anymore since it is not reliable.the only other alternative that i have is to replace every single brake line which is too costly for me at this time.i believe with all that i have read that this is a recurring problem that chevy had with their trucks.the truck is sitting in the drive right now with the most recent brake line failure.the most recent one goes from the drivers front wheel side to the passenger side front wheel. Too much rust and you never know when the brakes will fail when riding in this vehicle.thank you

Loss of steering and braking!cause power steering pump failure. The power steering shaft broke internally.

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. While driving less than 5 mph, the contact engaged the brake pedal and the anti-lock brake system activated independently. The failure would occur whenever the brakes were applied at less than 5 mph. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the failure was contributed to the speed sensor. There was a recall associated with the nhtsa campaign id number 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic: antilock). The contacts vin was excluded from the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 92,000.

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. The contact stated that the antilock braking system would independently engage when driving at low speeds. The contact stated that nhtsa recall campaign id number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock) was for the exact same failure as the contact experienced but pertained to the 2001 chevrolet silverado and not the silverado 2500 heavy duty. The contact was concerned because the antilock braking system would force the vehicle to shake violently. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 60,000.

When coming to a stop, i loose my braking at about 2 or 3 miles an hour.it doesn't happen all the time.i know that gm is having a recall on my truck in other states, but does not include wisconsin.

Anti lock brakes are activating under low stopping speed causing an increase in stopping distance. Brought vehicle to ron currier chevrolet in somerworth nh. Was told the anti lock brake sensor is out of calibration. Tried to resolve the problem with cheverolet as vehicle had only 25,400 miles when incident first occurred. Was told of other vehicles covered under a recall, but my vehicle was not included. Currently the vehicle has not been repaired.

Under low braking my anti-lock brakes activated causing my vehicle to have low braking ability and causing the vehicle to take longer to come to a complete stop.

Corroded brake lines caused fluid leak. Lines replaced at my expense. Anti-lock unit now faulty and likely due to contamination from corroded brake lines. Anti-lock wheel sensors failed numerous times, once replaced under warranty, twice at my expense.

Unwanted anti-lock brake system (abs) during low speed braking applications. Which could result in a crash. Recall number:05v379000.

I have a 2001 chevrolet silverado 2500hd.the anti-lock brakes on the truck pulse at low speeds as i come to a stop and it seems to take longer to stop in many instances.in investigating this issue on the internet, i found that there was a recall (gm recall 05068, nhtsa campaign id number:05v379000) that addressed this issue.upon calling chevrolet, i was informed first that there was no such recall.upon challenging that information, i was then told that the recall stopped several thousand units before my vehicle and thus did not apply.

Wheel speed sensor failure - salt contamination - abs engages erroneously- low speed increases stopping distance - my neighbor has the same issue and was just repaired at a dealer at his cost.

My chev truck 2500hd vin [xxx] abs system will activate at slow speeds it works fine at higher speeds. I called about the recall 05v37900 and was told this truck was not one of the recalls. It seems to be doing the same thing as the recall states. Updated 07/18/2012 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

Both antilock speed sensors went faulty after 3.5 years and were replaced by mfg. Now 7 years and 70k miles both are faulty again and gm says your problem. Even though a recall is in place my vin # is not included??? $900.00 i will need to pay.

Safety recall for low speed abs activation 2001 chevy silverado 2500hd.

Chevrolet has issued a recall for low speed anti-lock brake failure for 2001 model silverados.the recall includes all rust belt states.i have been having failure of the anti-lock braking system in speeds of 5 mph or below.they claim that my vehicle is not included in this recall, but they admit they are having problems with the same equipment that is on my truck.how can they issue a recall and not include all models that have this faulty equipment.gm has agreed with me that my problem is the same as what the recall was issued for, but they refuse to pay for the repair, because "your vin is not included in the recall group."they state that i have not had regular service done on my vehicle at a dealership, and they will not cover it for that reason.my truck is in excellent shape, and well cared for, just not a dealership.there is nowhere in the owners manual that states that you must have your vehicle serviced at a dealership in order to receive the proper repairs which have been deemed not safe.

While taking my pick up in for its 18000 mile maintenance checkup, the dealership told me that all 4 rotors had to be replaced due to delamination of metal from the surface of the rotor. After inspecting the rotors myself, it was obvious this was the case.prior to this visual inspection, there was no sign of any brake problems.talking to various mechanics, as well as the head of the maintenance department, i could not get a believable answer as to why this occurred.the dealership stated that gm was having this sort of problem, but that it was my responsibility to have the repairs made.several days and $1200 later, i received my truck back with working brakes.however, had this problem not been found at this time, i'm concerned that the brakes could have failed without warning, with obvious consequences.

Started cold vehicle.backing out of garage i had no power brakes nor power steering.removed power-steering pump resivoir cap and air and fluid belched out.after that it performed normally.

My power steering pump failed, resulting in significant reduction in braking and steering function. This is of special concern to me as i frequently tow a 10,000 pound fifth-wheel trailer. The failure occurred in october of 2003 and the pump was replaced by the dealer under warranty.

Found fluid on floor underneath motor area. Checked power steering reservoir and found it to be full. I found i had lost power steering, when i put vehicle in gear to move out of garage area, i found that i had also lost my brakes. (pedal went to the floor)i was thankful that i was not on the highway pulling a trailer at this time. No power steering and no brakes. I contacted power chevrolet in valencia and they told me not to drive the vehicle but to have it towed to their location. When the vehicle arrived at the dealership and was removed from the tow truck, a service representative was able to move the vehicle. He stated that it had both power steering and brakes. The service representative drove the truck around the lot several times to demonstrate that everything was working fine. At the conclusion of his last trip around the lot, the brake pedal went to the floor. I received a call from the service departmentsuggesting that i change the power steering pump. I was not comfortable about this suggestion since i had also lost my brakes. The one component part that affects both power steering and brakes is the hydro-booster. I had them replace the power steering pump and hyro-booster. They claim there have not been any recalls on either of these parts.

2001 chevrolet 2500hd pickup had a complete power brake and power steering failure almost resulting in a crash as i was almost not able to bring the vehicle to a stop.luckily no one was in front of me.mechanic states that pump shaft had a break in it.i've still got the part if that would help with your investigation.luckily i was not towing my 10,000 pound rv trailer at the time of the failure or i may not have been able to control the vehicle.

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd.the contact stated that a rubbing sound emitted from the steering column whenever making a turn. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for a diagnostic testing. The technician diagnosed that a new steering column was needed.the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure.the approximate failure mileage was 215,000.

When slowing down to stop, while at low speed, using the brakes engages the abs system and steering becomes suddenly difficult.

Going down the highway at approx 60 miles per hour. Truck turned off. This has happened several times. All electrical appears to be working. Other trucks with same model year had a recall under gm recall no. 06083. I have the same engine but they say mine is not subject to the recall.

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet 2500 hd. While driving at 40 mph, the vehicle stalled and the steering wheel seized.

Weld attaching right upper control arm mounts to frame cracked completely through. I am original owner. Vehicle never in crash or modified in any way. Discovered while searching for cause of sudden play in steering. Not yet repaired. This defect could lead to complete failure of right front suspension and steering.

When loading equipment in the back of the vehicle both tailgate cables failed. This caused the consumer to fall off the back of the vehicle. Consumersustained minor injuries.

Tailgate cable rusted and snapped.

My tailgate straps have ripped apart while opening the tailgate.

Tailgate cable failure, both cables broke in the middle when i sat on the tailgate. I have replaced them with new from chevy dealer and told them it should be a recall item.*la

Went to stop and brake line blew. All brake lines, fuel lines and undercarriage rotted.

Upper a-frame/ control arm rotted away, perforating around ball joint, allowing ball joint to break off vehicle. Extensive rot all over vehicle underside for last 10 years.

The vehicle often times vibrates in the speed range from 10 mph to 70 mph.within the times the vehicle is vibrating in the speed range of 50-70, occasionally the vehicle will jump within the lane, on the order of quarter or halves of a foot.towing generally minimizes the vibration; however now, steering gets more emphasized and sloppy, with a less in control feeling.i have brought the vehicle to a chevrolet dealership and they have done their best to minimize the vibration by making minor/scheduled maintenance adjustments to the vehicle, yet the problem still persists.i have suspected the rear differential, front springs, tires, and suspension, but i am not sure what component or combination of components are the root cause of the problem.

After hitting a bump in the road the right rear leaf spring mounting bracket broke. After further investigation at a local chevy dealership it was discovered that the leaf spring itself was also cracked. Further investigation revealed the same to be true on the left side of the truck as well. It was also discovered that the right rear shock, where it attaches to the frame, was completely corroded off. It was while under the truck investigating the suspension issues that it was discovered that the entire brake line system was severely corroded. I felt fortunate that this was discovered before a catastrophic failure occurred. It was also noticed that the entire under carriage/frame was severely corroded. When asked if this was normal, the chevy mechanic stated that they see this all the time on the gm trucks they service. Although this survey is for the brake lines i feel that the corrosion issues associated with the frame is just as severe an issue and should be investigated.

I own a 2001 chevrolet 2500 hd crew cab 4x4 with a 6.0 litre.on february 14, 2004, i noticed that the gas pedal was sticking when i first started the truck.it has continued to do this everytime i start the truck.back in november of 2003, i was having my oil changed when the manager asked if i was having any trouble with the gas pedal sticking.i stated that i had not had any trouble with the gas pedal.at that point, he stated that almost every newer model chevrolet truck he had seen has had that very problem when the mileage was around 75,000 miles.i now have around 75,000 miles on my truck now.it has become a safety issue.when i pick up my child from school, the gas pedal sticks when i am starting the truck up, and i have to press quite hard on the pedal.in an environment where children are walking all around, i cannot afford to have to punch on the gas pedal to get my truck to move.i would appreciate an investigation into this problem.

Engine idle increases to 2000- 5300 rpm when stopped or slowing with foot on brake pedal. Idle sometimes returns to normal by its self or may require shutting off and restarting engine. *nlm

The cruise control kicked in causing rapid acceleration on icy road.the use of brakesto turn off cruise control caused the vehicle to go into a skid into left lane and towards highway median strip.i tried to steer out of the skid while tapping brakes.vehicle went into a spin and then crossed right lane and into snow filled ditch heading towards trees.i steered away from trees, causing vehicle to slide sideways into trees and then into a chain link fence.airbag did not deploy.i took the vehicle to the shop where they said they could not diagnose the problem unless it was happening at the time they were evaluating it.one week later the cruise kicked in by itself when i was driving at 45 mph.no rapid acceleration this time.

The driver and passenger side rear view window developed streaks that were very distracting. The driver said the streaks were letting off false images. Please describe further. *nlm
