Vehicle was parked for the day while i worked. Entered and started vehicle, the vehicle message center indicated "service airbags" message. The message would come and go which made it difficult for the dealer to determine the problem. In november of 2013 the service airbag message stayed on, took vehicle in and had the front passanger side airbag sensor replaced. This resolved the problem.one month later (december 2013) the same thing happened and it turned out to be the front drivers side airbag sensor. Had the sensor replaced, resolved the problem.

The dashboard immediately surrounding the case holding the passenger side airbag in my 2009 chevy silverado is cracked and broken in three (3) different places, including two (2) corners.i was advised this is a common issue in gm trucks, and that it is a structural integrity issue that could cause airbag deployment without accident.i was advised that since our truck is part of the takata recall to have our airbags turned off, especially since the dash holding the airbag is broken and damaged.three-way chevrolet in bakersfield, ca refuses to turn the airbag off, even after agreeing the cracked and broken dashboard poses an inherent safety risk by compromising the already defective airbags.

We have a dash crack from driver side to passenger side not all the way just cracks in different areas; however what worries us the most is the 2" crack at the left hand corner of where the passenger airbag is. Takata recall, i am still waiting for the recall to replace the airbags on my truck. As you probably know it has been at least two years that we received the notice of the recall. I was just at airbag recall.com and it tells me only thepassigner airbag is to be replaced because of the propellant will degrade over time and could rupture and cause body harm and even fatal injury. So why does not the drivers airbag need to be changed as well? i know this isn't the only complaint that you folks have received on this matter, and as days go by we the public are in danger each time we use the vehicle, tis a sad situation. The dash on the passenger side is cracked and could hurt someone if the airbags were to deploy. This is a very common issue with the 2009 silverado. Also, the lifters are very bad and will stop working if the afm isn't turned off. I thought my engie was dead when going 70 and the lifter go out. Lost all power and had to tow it to a shop.this has happened twice.

This is a complaint about the cracks on my dash around the air bag. Over the past month they have grown and gotten worse, one is huge (about 7 inches long) and there's two more pieces in the corner about to fall out and one near the radio. I would just like gm to put a new dash in for free so i can cover it with a carpet dash and not have to worry about it. Thanks

I got out of work and the service airbag light came on so immediately i turned it off and started my truck again thinking it was just something weird that didn't register right. It has sence been 3 day so i looked up recalls on my truck and the recalls were for my 09 truck but my vin didn't quite match the "affected" vehicles. I was stationary and it was snowing outside. The recall said there was an acoustic pad that prevented the sensor from working correctly.

The sdm (airbag module) has water intrusion and caused corrosion inside the sdm and caused the circuit board to burn out no fuses were blown which is a concern as well because the board had burn components from the water intrusion.gm had a previous recall on this problem it appears this vehicle had the recall as it had the jute from the carpet removed from this area above the sdm this recall was purposively a canada recall 09270c - material over sensing and diagnostic modulei talked to gm about this they will do nothing for this even though they know of a problemthis is a real safety concern not only for the airbag but for the module burning up the circuit board as well potential fire in the vehicle i would like it fixed by the manufacture

Takata recall, gm still has no recall action on this they have no fix available for the replacement of these air bags. The gm recall number is 2049151. Gm is contesting this recall because they do not have enough evidence to justify the replacement of these defective airbags. I have not been involved in an accident with this vehicle i just want the airbags replaced as recommended by takata and in the nhtsa recall number 16v381. Received a notice of recall from gm on may 27, 2016 advising me of the recall stating that gm considers the vehicle safe to drive and the status of the recall is "incomplete, remedy not yet available" gm is still protesting this recall and has not received a final ruling from the nhtsa on its position that the gm vehicles are safe to drive. I believe that gm is stalling and should be required to replace these defective airbags.

Takata recall- dash is cracking in several places surrounding the passenger airbag. Started when the truck had less than 70,000 miles. (truck now has ~109,000) aside from the dash cracking on a fairly low mileage and very well kept and maintained vehicle, the safety fears stem from the possibility of pieces of dash flying apart and striking passengers if the airbags are ever to deploy. Or in a sudden stop, etc... I have seen several complaints about this issue. I can upload photos if necessary.

Since submitting my previous safety complaint, my "service airbag system" message is now displayed continuously and longer intermittently displayed. I have also received written correspondence from takata announcing their chapter 11 filing and confirmation that my vehicle may have a defective airbag. The notice also advised me to schedule an appointment with a local car dealer to get the defect repaired at no cost to me. I scheduled anappointment on 10-30-2017 for the repair work but was told by the dealership that they could not complete the repairs as "gm has not issued a fix yet". What is taking gm so long to address this clear, well documented safety threat? it has been at least a year since my vehicle was added to the recall. Should i not drive the vehicle? can the airbag be disabled? gm is not offering any timeframe for resolution nor are they providing guidance on what car owners should do while they finalize a solution. I do not have the money to pay for this out of pocket and do not have an alternative form of transportation.

I have various cracks in my dash. There is a large one in the middle of the dash. This one occurred just this year (2016). But the other is more concerning, especially since it is up against the passenger airbag. This one has existed for several years (2014 or earlier). I didn't think about this being a problem until the takata airbag recall came up. I am worried that should i get into an accident, that the cracked plastic will become loose debris, and cause additional harm to any passengers. An interesting thing i've noticed is a popping noise coming from the dash. This occurs after i have been driving with the air conditioner on for a while.when i perform a google search, this seems to be a fairly common problem. The image ending in 27, is the center crack. You'll notice that it is split completely for the full depth of that piece. Vehicle caught fire after being parked for 2.5 or so hours in driveway.determined by fire marshall to have started from a ecm in right front dash area.fire department responded and extinguished fire with water instead of foam because "foam tank was not operational at that time".no repairs have yet been made to the vehicle due to outstanding insurance investigation.

At 75mph on toll road at night, suddenly the lights (all external & internal) went dark. Hazard light would not work, engine quit, bell went off (door-key in ignition bell), rpm surged. Was able to get off road and waited 10 minutes and truck started. Drove off, got to 60 and same thing happened. Waited 30 minutes and truck was ok except when brakes applied -door/key bell went off. Dealer had truck for three days and could not duplicate. Went to utube and typed in electrical problems-2009 silverado and several pages of the exact same problem appeared.called dealer told them to replace the battery ground cable and to check the mega fuse. So far the truck is running ok (incident happened in july 2017) seems like the back yard mechanics know more about how to fix this problem. This is serious, driving at night at 75 and losing all electrics is an accident waiting to happen. The manufacture needs to be held accountable for the poor quality ground cables; this should be a recall!!!

Service air bag when the vehicle was in motion

Frequently when driving truck will do some or all of the following things, door locks locking and unlocking, dash lights flashing, stereo coming on and off, electronic stability control turns off, all lights, exterior and interior, turn off and on sometimes staying off long enough at night will scare you, truck speeds up but then sometimes losing power. All of those things happen when the truck is in motion. I drive on the highway every day which is bad when truck does these things. Not a safe situation for me.then sometimes when you turn it off you hear a loud clicking noise. If you do nothing battery will be dead when you try to start it next time. I can get it to stop the clicking by raising hood i and tapping on positive battery can i let or the mega fuse that is on the firewall. Chevrolet has recalled the 2008 trucks for something similar to this. I

My 2009 chevrolet silverado was parked for two days. It was running perfectly up until it was parked..after two days of being parked in the rain,the rear tail light suddenly went on by itself. After picking it up today,they charged me $1555 to repair,yet could not provide a logical reason why this happened! they said"corrosion" in the fuse panel. Per my research,there is a technical service bulletin that explains the problem. Pit-5090. There is an issue with water being allowed to enter the fuse panel box due to poor design and the poor installation from the factory of a rubber seal. I have had to replace the fuse block twice in this truck the most recent time was 04/04/2016 the first cost was 600.00 and the most recent cost was 474.90

So about 4 months ago i replaced the battery truck was running fine till about month three. I was driving my truck and all of a sudden all the electrical started freaking out on me. I popped the hood and pushed the negative wire for the battery down and it stopped for a good two months so today (june 7th, 2016)i was on my way to autozone to have them check the battery for me and on my way over to them truck thre a temper tantrum and started with the freaking out then i was almost there and it just completely shut off on me in the middle of traffic i was luckly in the turning lane to turn into the autozone. It also fid it when i was coming over the mountain freaking out with the electrical. Then just completly came to a stop at the intersection as i was turning left almost got hit by another silverado 2500 that was right behind me. But every once in a while it'll be okay then all of a sudden just start up again.

Atabout 90,000 miles the cruise control stopped working and when it is warm outside the passenger's side door electrical lock will not work. It tries to push lock to unlock position, but only pushes it half way. I have read a lot about these concerns on this model vehicle. Is this 2 recalls? it should be. This is not a cheap fix.

I purchased this vehicle new from classic chevrolet in grapevine, tx in january 2010. The first few months i had the vehicle, i had no problems. Starting in march 2010 i noticed that my radio(navigation system) would sound like it would short out intermittently. I didn't really think anything of it. I thought that it had to be the radio station or interference with other wireless signals. I never really thought it would become a problem until recently. On 5/5/2012, i was traveling 70mph at night down the highway when, all of a sudden, my entire electrical system seemed like it was "resetting" itself multiple times. From door locks to instrument cluster, to navigation system, to even headlights, everything cycled more than 3 or 4 times in rapid succession. I was merely driving down the road, i hadn't just touched anything, i was just cruising along. After doing some research online, it is apparent that this is a common issue among this design of the silverado. Forum after forum has owners describing this same issue and more problems with the electrical system. It is a major safety concern that could end up killing someone. Headlights and running lights that turn off without cause? what if the airbag system is affected and it causes a premature airbag deployment while someone is traveling at a high rate of speed? this is not and isolated issue and the government needs to step in to force general motors to recall this vehicle along with any other vehicles with the same issue. It is my understanding that general motors may be aware of the issue because the 2011 and 2012 silverados have had design changes made to their electrical systems.(i read this in forums as well.)

While driving the stabilitrak light came on and then the abs light.it stayed on, so i took it to a mechanic who determined it was the brake switch and he replaced it.it has been fine until recently, when it came on again and my brake lights were sticking on, so i replaced the brake switch again. So, far it's stayed off.my concern is that my truck my start having the same issues as our other gm vehicle, which also involves the stabilitrak/traction control/reduced power lights coming on.reduced power is dangerous while driving, especially on the interstate in heavy traffic.i have read gm forums and have found that this problem has been happening as far back as 6 years, and gm still has not figured out how to fix it.

I was at 60 to 65 mph on an interstate and the truck powered the motor down. The electronic stability control module lightcame on and the service engine light. I was able to get off at the last safe exit for quite a way. Onstar recommended not driving it to the dealer. The dealer did the diagnostic and at 28000 miles told me it was the throttle body assembly. It took 5 days to get a "new" one.( aprox 1/26/11)on aprox 12/15/11 an almost identical thing happened, mileage 50,000. Out of warranty i took it to a local shop. Their computer test concluded a throttle body assembly malfunction. $450.00 to repair. Call the dealer " no that is under warranty" dealer concluded that it "just needed cleaned". Prior to service (i rely on this truck for work, i can not get a ride, i can not ride a bus) i was able to "reset " the stabilitrack ( the button would not turn it off) by pulling 4 fuses under the hood fuse block. But boy when it hadenough the truck would power the motor down and within 15 seconds the truck would die right where it was. 5 mph, or 15 mph no power nothing, brakes ,steering gone.

The check engine light came on while driving and when the codes were ran two codes popped up, p2534 (ignition 1 switch circuit low voltage 2. Ignition on/start switch low voltage.) and code p069e fuel pump control module requested mil illumination. When i had the dealer check this they said that the fuel pump control module needs to be replaced, however the vin number of my vehicle did not match that of the recall that is currently in place (bulletin no. 14515b from january 2015).

I talked to the chevrolet dealer in tempe, freeway chevrolet, and they stated my truck was not part of the safety recall bulletin 14515 even though other 2009 chevroletr silverado 1500s were part of the recall. I would think that chevrolet would be glad to fix it before a crash, sort of like toyota should of fixed their braking and acceleration problem before so many crashes. Is it true that even if the truck is having the same problem as the recall, which is a safety recall, it may not be covered for it is not listed?

The vehicle was being driven by my son when service engine light came on and i then used my actron scan tool and pulled 3x codes from the computer (ecu) codes related to the fuel pump control module , and trailer brake warning light appeared on the instrument cluster cleared these codes. 2 days later codes reappeared all were fuel pump circuit low, fuel pump module and trailer brake codes. Cleared codes then inspected the fpsm visually removed rear cover and the fpsm was full ofwateri them dried it out for 2x days in the sun truck ran after reassembly. But 3x days later the truck failed to start this time with computer scan tool in hand i checked the fuel pump pressure, the truck had no fuel pump pressure. I then went to my local chevrolet dealer and gave them the v.i.n. # to check the vehicle for recalls. Only recall was for safety belt recall which was done in 2009. I found out there was a potential recall for the fpsm on this website. So ii inquired to the parts department for this part,it was in stock and 183.00. I then purchased a new ac delco module on-line for 85.00 put it on and then found my local shop in town to have a tech come out to re-flash the fpsm so the (ecu) would recognize the new part. I am saving my copies of the bills so that when someone dies from this part failing when it stops the vehicle hopefully i can be reimbursed for another planned gm part failure... Sincerely mr. The warning screen shows: engine hot/ ac turned off, i have been replaced 4 times the temperature sensor. It was the test detected. It worked about 3 months. Later a tech. Toll me, just reset the system by disconnecting a battery pole, works for a while. 2 weeks ago i replaced again the temperature sensor, and and the thermostat. I worked for 12 days , and now i have the same problem, but, even when i reset the it it works for not more than 10 minutes, and the " engine hot/ ac off shows again.

Engine doesn't start.rare and intermittent. No clicks or attempt to start, lights are on and go off when key turned to start.nothing appears to help ie moving drive selector, engaging/releasing e-brake, stepping on brake pedal, opening/closing hood etcwait some unknown period of time, more than 10 minutes and it starts as though nothing ever happened.i've looked into it online enough to know others have similar problems but haven't found a solution.maybe not be as safety related as is needed but i can think of a few scenarios that could be dangerous.thanks

The first incident was in january 2014 while traveling on the highway at 55 mph the door locks started to cycle rapidly, the gauges all went to zero, the airbag rediness light came on and a service stabilitrac message appeared.the next day the vehicle would not start, after moving the positive battery terminal cover to try and jump the battery all the lights came on and the vehicle started without needing to be jumped. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they checked everything and found nothing wrong. No codes were stored. They inspected the under hood fuse block and the battery pin tension, both were good. The vehicle has run fine with no problems until november 2014, now it has started doing the exact same thing as it was doing in january.i will be contacting my local chevrolet dealer and the chevrolet regional manager again. Also it seems very unusual that the dealer and the regional manager have never heard of this problem.the chevrolet forums are full of people having the same issues,also there is a technical service bulletin addressing the problem.

While traveling 70 mph on the interstate everything goes crazy at once: doors lock and unlock, engine cuts and goes back on, stabilitrak light comes on and goes off, transmission kicks out of gear and then downshifts sending the engine to over 5,000 rpm, radio goes off and on off and on.this event lasts for about 5 to 7 seconds then everything goes back to normal.the problem has occurred intermittently and may not happen again for several months.this problem sounds very similar to nhtsa id #10871399.it is an extremely scary event and when in traffic going 70 and the vehicle downshifts and the speed drops to 50 like you slammed on the brakes, but the brakes have not been touched.it almost caused me to be hit this morning.i purchased the vehicle in february 2014 with 114,000 miles, this first happened in 2014 with approx. 118,000 miles.the vehicle currently has 171,500.

The vehicle first started having electrical troubles when we were traveling down the interstate.the door locks were cycling rapidly, the gauges were bouncing all over the dials, we lost power, the lights on the dash were flashing, and the transmission stopped working, and we were coasting - on an interstate.we pulled over and shut it off for a few moments, started it up and took off again, with no trouble.got home and i looked it up on the internet, and found many similar/identical stories.we took it to the dealership and they said they could find nothing wrong.they charged us $200, and the problem seemed fixed, for a whole two months, just like everyone else said in their posts.it has done it at least 7 times over the past year, and we have resorted to pushing in the fuses, which wiggle loose - and it seems to fix it, albeit temporarily.until today.it started happening on the interstate again, and we pulled over, opened the hood, took off the cover, and pushed down the fuses, but none were loose.it acted up about 3 more times on the way back home, and we had to turn around to get the truck in the driveway before it just died altogether.we missed an appointment with a customer (we do construction) because of it.it's not safe to drive - we're worried about getting into an accident because of the loss of power.gm says they're sympathetic, but that doesn't fix it.we don't need sympathy, we need results!they also say they've not heard of the problem - bull----.they know of the problem, they just don't want to do anything about it.thus far, i don't think anyone has been killed, so the bean counters aren't rattled yet.so far, no lawsuits that i know of - they get to ride off into the sunset with our money and all we get is a junk truck that you can't rely upon even though it only has 58,000 miles.

When driving on the highway the door locks will suddenly go on and off several times and the truck loses power transmission shifts out of gear seat belt light comes on instrument panel needles go erratic. Dealers say if we can't make it do it when we're there they don't know what to fix need help soon.

The truck was sitting parked in the driveway and my neighbor noticed that the lights and wipers came on (truck was not on, no keys were in it, nobody was in it or near it!). Smoke then began to billow out from under the hood and a fire started. My neighbor was able to disconnect the battery and put out the fire. I had the truck towed to a garage where they told me that the fuse panel caught on fire. They called gm and was told there was no recall for the part. Dealing with insurance now.

After parking my truck in driveway. I came out the next morning to find my windshield wipers up and the truck dead. The only light that would come on was the engine light. After further inspection, the fuse box had melted and caught on fire. I feel this is a serious issue that needs to be addressed. I do not see a recall on general motors website.

I have had the tire pressure indicator that tells the tire pressure of all four tire replaced several times. John l sullivan chevrolet in roseville california keeps telling me that they are wearing out do to use. But the truck only has 70k in mileage and i they malfunction all the time. I get readings of 99 lbs of air pressure. Then the same tire will say 0 lbs of pressure. And it will say 7, then 29 then 18 lbs of air pressure in a distance of 2 blocks traveled. This is a malfunction due to faulty parts in the gm tire pressure reading system and they need to fix it. If i take it to the chevy dealer, they want to charge me $209 to per tire to replace them and then they still do not work after they replace them still get crazy tire pressure readings and it warnings flashing on my instrument panel that are distracting and dangerous.it does not flashes every 5 seconds that i have a tire pressure issue and it needs to get resolved. But chevrolet will not do anything but charge money of there problem with their truck part that is malfunctioning.

I was driving my 2009 chevrolet silverado one morning on my way to school(luckily i wasn't to far from home when the incident occurred) when the vehicle lost power and the dash showed the check engine light, service stabilititrak, and service traction control. When the incident occurred i was in the middle of the road when my vehicle began to decelerate and eventually was not able to go past 45 mph. I pulled over and my vehicle and parked, shut off the engine, and then started it back up only to show the same icons on the dash. After turning around and slowly returning to my house i shut the vehicle off and had to take my wife's car to work. Under other circumstances this could have gone extremely bad and an accident may have occurred. This seems to be a common trend on the internet and forums and needs to be addressed by gm!

While driving at highway speeds, truck had massive electrical issues which caused the transmission to downshift to 2nd gear.i almost lost control.while this was happening, the door locks cycled on and off over and over as well as the door chimes coming on constantly.hvac defaulted to full heat from air conditioning mode.stabilitrack systems showed inoperative as well as abs system.the rapid downshift from cruise to 2nd gear caused tires to lock up.i almost lost control.if it would have been wet or slippery, i would not have been able to maintain control.the vehicle engine revved to 4-5 thousand rpm, as it downshifted and my speed dropped like i was locking the brakes.i could have been rear ended and the deceleration came on with no brake lights, as it was happening with the transmission rapid downshift.i contacted gm via their chat line, reference [xxx].they told me it was 8 years old and bought over-seas so i was out of luck for help with repairs.it is presumably caused by faulty battery cables.this condition is reported repeatedly on the internet i.e. Youtube amazon etc.these parts are not normal wear and tear components and since they cause massive safety related control issues their manufacturing quality is in question.i want to report this issue to help prevent someone else possibly having an injury to their loved ones because of a known condition that could be repaired with a 125.00 part. I have had this problem occasionally since i bought the truck new, but recently it started to do the same thing on a regular basis. Start the truck and it's fine, but go to shift into gear and the service engine, service traction control, and service abs lights and messages come on the dash. Today, i pressed the brakes while driving it and heard a click when i did so, so i pulled over and checked and found that if i push my brake pedal very far, my brake lights went out. I have complainted of excessive oil consumption numerous times to my dealership since day 1.50k miles they replace the oil pump and rebuilt the lower part of the motor.97k miles i have p0300 code which is a rapid misfire.the truck immediately lost power and began vibrating. The #4 cylinder has no compression.no warranty, not sure what's next. Not sure what the problem is.

On march 21, 2018, at or close to 1:45 pm, while driving my 2009 chevrolet silverado 1500 the instrument cluster began illuminating and producing auditable alarms. The message center indicated to 'check oil pressure.'during this failure, i lost all motive power and had to maneuver the vehicle off of the highway's traffic as other vehicles were following me, one of which came very close to rear-ending me.i had the vehicle towed to a repair facility in which they had indicated that this was something they had replaced, on separate occasions with this type of vehicle on at least four previous occasions.the repair facility has indicated that it was due to an 'oil pump failure' that is located inside the engine.the mileage is 112,651; i sure would not expect such a catastrophic failure that endangered other motorists and myself.there was not any warning of this failure; the check engine light had not been illuminated before this failure.

Truck had been sitting overnight. Woke up to 3rd brake light on. Opened cab door, smelled like smoke and check engine light on, would not turn over. Pop hood and the fuse box and wiring harness had been on fire, were completely melted. Insurance company won't cover because there was not substantial proof of fire, and could not find source. Filed a formal complaint with gm after the dealership told us the wiring harness had been discontinued (on a 7 year old truck). Gm won't do anything because they cannot find the source, and they have yet to acknowledge that they discontinued a part. We have no way of fixing this truck.

Engine oil consumptionwithout warning driving down the road my truck starts dinging for my engine oil pressure is low and to shut off engine immediately.i pull over and check oil and it is not even on the dipstick. I am 1600 miles into my oil change so as recommended by chevy i shouldn't have to change my oil but every 5000 miles, but i have always changed it every 3000. So i should have another 1400 miles to go before changing but instead in about 3 quarts low. This is not the first time but i watch it very carefully since the last time. Now i am worried it will total my engine after seeing how much oil is being burned. Never a drop on the ground just going somewhere in the engine.

It is a 5.3 eng. It use 2 at of oil a week if you idle the eng. It has done that ever sense i got the truck it had 40,000 when i got it

Oil relieve valve stuck shut not letting pressure crank valve to operate and fouling number one cylinder in motion on a city street causing stability trac and the trac control lights came on cel is flashing and vehicle is running rough.happened all at once.only 61181 miles on vehicle.

My silverado is not covered under any recall, i was driving my two children back home from school, all of a sudden i lost power in the pedal, the check engine came on, and flashed reduced engine power came on, at this time i had a log truck behind me, i had no place to pull off the road, since the snow banks here in maine are huge, this was extremely unsafe, the truck almost rear ended me, there should me a recall on my type of pickup, with my bob number. I ask a gm dealer and they said that similar models are covered but not mine. I had the dealer check the code and it came back as a p2135 code, tsp sensor

High oil consumption.

The lifters in the 5.3 engines are completely trash. Everyone who has a silver with the 5.3 has to change lifters often.my lifters has went out 2 times in the last 5 months.this is a big flaw in the silverado. I was driving down the highway at about 70 an all of the sudden my engine light starts flashing and my truck starts ticking and missing really bad.

The afm (lifters) and camshaft all needed to be replaced due to oil consumption issues.the truck started to make a knocking sound so i stopped and checked the oil and didn't have any showing on dip stick.changed oil that day and two weeks later the vehicle went into reduce power mode.i took to dealership for repair and they told be it was lifters and camshaft.after doing research on internet it seems that from 2007-2013 5.3 engines are having oil consumption issues due to afm active fuel management system on truck

My fuel pump control module pn20759945 shorted.recall bulletin 14515 covers my model year and part number. However, gm claims my vin is not covered by this.this is the same part and same failure listed in the recall bulletin, and imo it should be covered by gm.fcpm's are poorly designed and poorly placed and fail on many many gm models over a number of years.this is an item that should be expanded to include all vehicles with that part number, especially if they are mounted externally and exposed to the environment such as on all chevy sliverados and related trucks. The fault in my case was a check engine light, and not a crank no start.i took the truck to gm for diagnosis.they said the fcpm needs replaced as it shows and internal fault. This is an expensive part and service,which should be covered by gm under the bulletin imo.

2009 chevrolet silverado complete engine failure at less than 20,000 miles due to a burnt bearing on cam shaft.defective engine replaced with new replacement engine which also suffered complete failure with less than 150 miles.this second failure was in the coolant port due to a casting defect-excessive flashin water port.

I hear a high pitched whining noise under the hood. Varies with engine rpm, vehicle can be parked and you'll still hear it. Only happens in extreme cold situations, usually sub zero. I live in fairbanks. Other than the noise, vehicle operates just fine. It can be quite loud. This problem is intermittent. Haven't been able to make it to the dealership while it's happening. Dealership suggested changing the heat setting from floor/dash to just floor. That fixes it. Apparently this isn't enough info for them as they don't know what to fix. I wanted this on record in the event something broke just after it went out of warranty. Currently approaching 25k miles on the truck.

Consumer states vehicle burns oil at a rapid rate *tgwthe consumer stated after numerous attempts to correct the problem, he has not been able to stop the engine from burning excessive amounts of oil within a short period of time.the consumer believed the rings or piston walls were defective and believed the engine should be replaced under warranty.

I own a '09 chevrolet silverado 2500 pickup with an integrated trailer brake controller. My driver information center gave me a warning "service trailer brake system". I took the truck to the dealer and was told that the abs/stability control module was defective and needed to be replaced. They said it was on backorder from gm.it turns out that gm has no abs control modules (part#25802684) in the entire country!with this module being bad it cuts power to the trailer brakes.you end up with no brakes on any trailer you tow that has electric brakes.this is an extremely dangerous situation. I was lucky that my trailer was not connected at the time of the fault. If i had been towing my camper and lost braking power to it, the result could have been catastrophic.gm has no fix for this. I and every other owner (a lot) are stuck with no parts to fix this problem.please investigate why gm let their stock in the entire country go to zero on such a critical safety related part.thank you

The brakes on this silverado do not release. You have to press the gas about half way down then they will "pop" and become free all at once lunging the vehicle forward. You then have to press the brake again due to the amount of throttle applied. Once applied again the brakes will lock up and the process repeats itself. This is what happens when in traffic. If the vehicle is traveling 20 mph or under when foot is not on the accelerator the truck will apply the brakes on its own pulsing and surging. This is a very dangerous situation when in traffic and trying to navigate through parking lots and roads with pedestrians.

I am a retired master mechanic with over 30 years experience specializing in brakes.i took my vehicle to the dealer 4 times with this complaint. The dealer could not duplicate the complaint because of not test driving downa hill.test drive was on a flat surface.problem only occurs while driving down a hill. I was worried about safety after so many service visits, i finally called general motors in detroit to file a complaint. General motors replaced the rotors as a goodwill gesture. The problem has not re-occurred after rotor replacement.

The brake pedal back pressure is weak, spongy or soft when applied.the brake pedal goes to floor board further than normal/ traditional of all manufacturer vehicle models through out past decades of production.have to pump this vehicles brake pedal more than twice in order to obtain sufficient brake pedal pressure necessary to achieve control of vehicle's brakes. For unexpected braking, the current braking system on 1500 silverado chevrolets is inadequate for the average driver which possibly will result with harm to others and vehicle.

Not much for brakes on the initial push of the pedal but if you pump them up they are good. Really bad in a emergency stop or when you have a light trailer on that doesn't require separate brakes on trailer.i had it both on 1500 4x4 08gmc and on the same 09 chevy i have now.

While exiting a parking lot to turn north, the steering failed causing my vehicle to go across onto the median before i stopped the vehicle.the motor shaft of the electrical power steering snapped.

Took truck in for vehicle inspection. Truck failed inspection due to leaking steering gear. The dealer said i would have to replace the steering gear $800 and then the truck would pass inspection . This truck has 14000 miles on it . A search online reported a recall because of the tie rod going into the steering box was not tight enough causing damage to gear box . Dealer was suppose to fix at no charge this problem.

Vehicle was struck by a motorcycle traveling around 50mph in the drivers side front tire. This is a 4 wheel drive vehicle.the motorcycle was only a 50cc model small motorcycle.this resulted in the spindle breaking in two at the point just behind where the tie rod end connects resulting in a loss of steering on that wheel. Luckily the silverado was only traveling approximately 25 mph at the time of the accident and was safely stopped in a short distance.this is a heavy duty part and should not have broken. The tie rod should have broken first.

2009 chevrolet silverado with 15000 miles. Two cracks on dash one by passenger side airbag, and one right above gauge cluster(speedometer). Very common on these trucks.

I noticed that the that the console under the steering column started to crack. Nothing happened to cause the issue at all. Then about a year later i noticed that the dashboard near the airbag on the passenger side also began to crack. Of course at this time the vehicle was out of warranty, and i would have to repair out of pocket if i wanted fixed. There are several other things like the automatic lock actuator malfunctioned. I am really disappointed in this particular year workmanship. For this reason, i have recently purchased another vehicle, and did not consider chevy at all. They need to step up and fix this issue. It obviously is adefect that is a vendor issue.

I currently own a 2009 chevrolet silverado ltz crew cab with approximately 96k miles i have owned this car for about a year now since purchasing a noticed a crack on the driver side dashboard under the instrument cluster and on the passenger side next to the passenger air bag.also the two door handles one being the driver front and the other being passenger front the chrome finish seems to be defective and not staying adhered o the handle and come off in sharp edges making it easy to cut you hand.as the dealership knows this is a defect in the manufacture they used on these trucks the 2 issues on here are not just on 1 vehicle but numerous silverado tahoes and trucks with the same dash and handles.it seems like they pose a safety issue because the handle may cut you and the dash may project sharp pieces if jagged plastic if involved in a collision.myself and many others feel that the general motors knows about the safety issues and as the vehicle manufactures should do the right thing and fix a defective and dangerous product they put out with the form of a recall.i've seen this issue range from trucks between 2008-2012 with 1- 10000000 miles.

A few days ago while detailing the interior of my truck, l noticed several cracks in the dash where the takata airbags deploy. I only have69,000 miles on this vehicle.it has been garage kept. I took it to our local delership & the advised it was out of warranty & nothing could be done. I would like to add, l just received my recall notice of the deteriorating airbag recall for this vehicle. I'm fearful to drive this truck for fear of dash pieces & early airbag deployment.dealership was contacted yesterday & l was advised by paul, a service writer,the parts to repair this recall are not available. I asked about what would happen if the takata inflators airbags deployed & l or passenger was killed or hurt? my response was there is nothing that could be done at this time.

Dashboard crack in several places/including around air bags/there is a recall on air bags but a permanent fix has not been found. When a fix is found my vehicle can not be work on as is because the cracks around the air bag compartment. Cannot ride any one on the passenger side of my vehicle because of the fear of air bag deployment.

This is an airbag concern, there is cracking in the dash board near the pasenger airbag. This started two months ago, but the crack keeps devolping. I have also heard other cases of 2007-2013 gm vehicles. I don't know if this affects the airbag. This is a concern because i have heard other complaints. The vehicle was stationary when it started. I think it's because of the weak plastic.

Walked out to my truck today to find the dash was cracked right by the passenger airbag.while this does not bother me the fact that it could be a safety issue if the airbag deploys does.shards of sharp plastic could easily fly about the cabin if an accident occurred.gm needs to fix this and recall for this issue.the plastic is cheap and thin and from what i have researched it would include just about every gm truck made since 2007.

My dash was replaced at 63000 miles because it cracked on the passenger side by the airbag. Now it's cracked again by the airbag in 2 places this time. I took it back to hendrick chevrolet and they said there was nothing they could do because it's out of the 12 months 12000 mile warranty. I would have to call chevrolet. I called chevrolet and talked to a nice lady who transferred me to a senior advisor who l explained my situation and concern over safety if the airbag deployed. She took a second and they have done testing and there is no safety issue is what i was told. Then she checked to see if there was any customer assistance and came back with the customer has to pay 100 % to fix because it's cosmetic. I've looked online and it looks like a huge problem everywhere. For mine to crack for the 2nd time within 28000 miles is uncalled for. What's it going to take someone getting seriously injured before they do something or fix the problem. Looks like there going cheap and take a chance.we the customers need any help we can get for chevrolet to own up to this flaw in design and take responsibility.

The locking mechanism broke on all passenger doors causing passengers unable to open the door. The key-less entry only opens driver and release on door does same. Dealership stated required to replace door lock actuator on all doors. This appears to be big problem with silverado trucks

Dash board is cracked and continues to crack. It rattles horribly and the major concern is that if the air bags are deployed, sharp hard pieces of plastic will be shot throughout the truck interior or the cracked dash could puncture the air bag making the air bag useless.

The dash is cracked. There was a lawsuit against gm about this issue, and im filling a complaint also.this can cause a safety issue by the broken dash could possibly puncture the airbag.

I have a 2009 chevrolet silverado 1500.the cruise control does not slow down the vehicle on grades or ever small slopes.the vehicle free rolls as fast as you will let it in over drive, 3rd gear, 1st or 2nd.there is no engine breaking at all.gm says this is proper operation for the vehicle, and there is no software or mechanical fix for this problem.i have a 2004of the same model and it works perfectly, with very effective speed control.this is very unsafe, and actually in my opinion cannot be considered to be cruise control at all.my dealership told me this is an ongoing complaint, that gm will not acknowledge as a definite defect in design.the same day my vehicle was being examined, the local police had one of their trucks of the same model year in the shop with the same complaint.i have not had an accident, but cannot use this option on the vehicle, i can only ride my breaks down slopes to slow the vehicle down.
