I hit another vehicle in the side, it was traveling approx. 55 mph.i was pulling into a walmart and crossing 2 lanes of traffic.upon impact i pushed the other vehicle off the road from her inside lane.the airbag on my vehicle never deployed.i was told by the repair shop that the impact wasn't hard enough to cause the airbag to deploy.that is why i never reported the accident until now.just recently the airbag light came on and when i took it to the dealer they said it needed a new front bumper impact sensor for $549.00.i had contacted gm about and they said since there was over 100,000 mi. They could not do anything.i have since learned there have been myriad complaints on this vehicle for the same thing.it seems to me that there are ample enough complaints for the nhtsb to order a recall.i plan on doing the repair myself.the part costs $90.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. The contact stated that the service airbags warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The dealer stated that the contact would have to replace the air bag sensor. The contact previously had the sensor replaced in june 2010 when the air bag light illuminated for the first time. The contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The current mileage was approximately 64,000. The failure mileage was 57,111.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. The contact stated that the service air bag warning indicator illuminated, which was a safety concern. The contact called the local dealer (rosner chevrolet, 800 s harbor city blvd, melbourne, fl 32901, (321) 345-9660) and was informed to schedule a service appointment. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 169,000.

I bought a 2005 silverado from my mother, and she bought the truck off of a used dealer lot purchasing for 12,500 four years ago. Since then the truck has had an air bag sensor replaced and it once again showing the air bag needs serviced, which can be very dangerous to truck owners in situations of a crash. Was told they go out commonly. The truck has also had an abs issue since it was purchased on the lot, we sent it back to be fixed, and the issue was never solved, it has been looked at by three technicians. This is also a public safety hazard if the abs causes the brakes to fail. The truck also has numerous electrical issues, such as the gear selector does not illuminate, in which case someone may not be able to determine what gear they are in and cause an incident, the headlight, tail light, brake light, and marker lights are always blowing bulbs, the dash cluster doesn't always want to illuminate either, this could cause a crash especially at dark when you cannot see the rpm, speedo, oil press, temp, or any other gage present.

The contact owned a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. While the driver was traveling at an unknown rate of speed on an on ramp, the driver crashed into another vehicle. The vehicle swayed back and forth on the road and then crashed into the rear of an 18 wheeler truck. The driver's bumper attached to the 18 wheeler truck and the driver's vehicle was dragged for a few miles until the state highway patrol assisted. The contact indicated that none of the air bags deployed. A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The driver sustained massive head injuries and abdominal bleeding. The contact received extensive medical attention and had to be sent to a trauma unit in another hospital. The driver sustained fatal injuries due to the air bags not deploying. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but was not able to diagnose the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

Front to rear 5 car collision, causing me to hit a vehicle and then a high curb and drainage grate, front damage to my truck is severe and my truck will require over $8,000, my insurance company will probably call the truck a total loss...my airbags did not deploy.

Air bags did not deploy on a front end crash.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. While driving approximately 50 mph, the contact suddenly lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a cement barrier. The contact suffered a broken jaw and the front end of the vehicle was severely damaged. The vehicle was towed from the scene and a police report was filed. In addition, the airbags failed to deploy. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000. The vin was not available.

Low mileage 2005 truck. At just under 50,000 miles passenger airbag dash light came on (nov. 2018).performed protocol according to manual and it turned off.came back on same day after moving passenger seat to clean.dealership in missoula montana claimed needed passenger airbag replacement, cost over $800.00.admitted not a problem mechanically that would affect the truck if did not replace. After reading on this site the reliability of the air bags in this truck, not worth it to me.mileage today march 2019 little under 51,000.

Giving me a message that says service air bag.also having problems with instrument panel lights fading out.

Light comes on which reads "check passenger air bag". This light comes on when vehicle is started and then remains illuminated until the engine is shut off. Various dealerships and vehicle repair shops have indicated that parts for the air bags are faulty and need to be replaced. These same repair locations have indicated that the air bags will not activate in case of a accident.

One day after sitting in a parking lot the "check air bag" message came on with air bag light.the past winter had been particularly wet and cold for ohio.after research online, i found that the front driver side air bag sensor was deformed and causing the problem.apparently the design can allow water into the sensor, but not drain out.hence, the water froze inside the sensor, expanded and damaged the sensor, rendering the air bag system inoperable.part number 15103522.further research revealed that the part has been replaced by another part number - 10370149.unsure if this new part corrects the lack of drainage or not but according to the online research, it just might.contacted chevy authorized service and they are not willing to replace the part at their cost since there has not been an official recall.i was put on hold for 5 minutes waiting to learn of the part price, at which point i hung up.there are numerous online reports of this problem and being that it is a life safety issue, one might think that chevy would be interested in not incurring more lawsuits than they already have against them.

I have had a "service air bag" light on for several years now. I have owned the truck since new and it has never been in an accident. From what i have heard it is a driver's side airbag connection issue and if there is an accident the airbag won't activate. After reading about the recall on the 2007 models on up i was surprised and disappointed that my year is not involved in that recall as it sounds like the same safety defect. Mileage on my truck is only 81,000 miles. The truck was stationary and just started when the light first came on and it's been on ever since.

The airbag warning light stays on. Anytime the engine is running.

Vehicle was sold which was believed to be an illegal california safety inspections had for three months driveshaft flew off of vehicle a week after purchasing dealer ship fix but but a driveshaft that was to short for the vehicle which was the reason for the incident second incident cause collision into brick wall because vehicle lost steering believed to be cause by safety issues dealership retired to pass off as an "as is " vehicle air bags did not deploy

The service airbag light came on and stays on the milage was about 65000 miles its looks to me like this is a common problem with this truck it is a 2005 chevy silverado 1500 ls, you would think chevrolet would fix this problem.

When i purchased my truck the dealership promised to have it fixed,i then went to the nc dmv who handles vehicle. I had beenreceiving the runaroundfrom everyone. I am sure it has been in a flood that i was not informed about due to all the rust underneath the vehicle. When i purchased itwas stationary at a private dealership in a city next to a highway.

Service airbag light comes on when vehicle is started and comes and goes throughout the drive.after discussing with friends found out there are approx. 5-10 other vehicles of the same model and around the same mileage in my area with the problem.if you search the web, there are a lot of trucks with the same problem.not an isolated incident!!!the problem is expensive to fix and sounds like a money maker for the dealerships!!

Vehicle has service airbag light and message on the dic indicating a faulty air bag safety system.upon further diagnostic it has been determined that the driver side front airbag impact sensor is faulty disabling the airbag safety system.this part is $250 from the dealer and as a safety item is known to be faulty too soon.

I was on my way to work and i stopped at a stop sign and happened to look down at my speedometer and it was showing that i was going 10mph while i was sitting still. Then while i was driving the speedometer jumped to 85mph. This was the first time i have noticed this problem.

Takata inflators stationary and in motion.

The front right air bag sensor in my 2005 chevy silverado failed for no apparent reason causing the air bag system to be de-activated until the sensor was replaced.the vehicle is 4 years old and has 35,000 miles on it and was not involved in any accidents to my knowledge.the issue is that when a sensor fails, the entire air bag system is de-activated until repairs are completed, causing owners to drive the vehicle without the safety feature.general motors made it very clear that they had no intention of correcting the problem for free.replacement of the sensor cost $275 for labor and parts.a service request was filed with general motors asking for them to pay for the repair and the request was denied.i could afford the repair, however many people may not be able to and will end driving their vehicle without an important safety feature.

Service airbag lightcame on. Took it to dealer said impact sensor was badand airbags would not work if in a frontend crash. Truck has only 73000 miles on it. Cost $350.00 to $400.00 to fix. Dealer said they had a lot of this problem. Why have there been a recall.

Air bag light just came on an had it see a dealer told me i had both sensors in the front of the truck bad and wanted to charge me around $850.00 to replace them i didn't have that kind on money to spend they told me it wouldn't effect the running of my truck but if i get in a wreck my air bags probably will not work is this not a safety problem gm should take care of they thousands of trucks like mine with the air bag light on an not air bag want work if they wreck i can only hope that they are a recall on this before anymore people get hurt or kill that could be prevented if gm would do what's right and fix the problem.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. While driving approximately 45 mph, the brake pedal was depressed but the brakes failed to operate. The contact crashed into a ditch. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was not filed and there were no injuries. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

I have had a problem with the safety airbags being non operational in my truck for a while now..dealership is wanting to charge in excess of $300 for the repair. I have been reading on multiple forums that this is a common problem with the chevrolet suv/trucks model year 2003-2011. Due to the front impact sensors going out on the vehicle and yet chevrolet/gm has not done a safety recall on these. I was told by a dealer that if one of these sensors goes out that the airbag system will not deploy is in a crash.

The contact owned a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. While driving approximately 55 mph during rainy weather conditions, the contact lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a cement barrier. The air bags did not deploy. Three passengers were injuries. A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The contact filed a complaint with the manufacturer. The air bag light illuminated a month before the crash and was repaired by the dealer. The failure mileage was 45,147.

The air bag warning came on disabling drivers air bag. After checking this out i found this was a real common problem in this age silverados. Problem is a sensor that cost 400$ to repair at dealer. If this is a common problem shouldn't gm fix the defect at their cost? how many owners of this age truck opt not to have this defect fixed due to cost? this endangers owners and passengers and gm should be liable. Thank you, [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The vehicle's read "check air bag" for at least 3 months. No incident but the check light has been on since august 2014. Please advise.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving, he heard a noise under the dash board and the air bag light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and they stated that the censor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and they stated that he needed to take the vehicle in to get it repaired at his expense. The failure mileage was 42,500.

Theservice airbag light came on,and i had it checked, was told the front sensor was bad. Called the chevy dealer and was told they only have to be replaced if in a crash. I've had wiring problems and a recall on the blower wiring. I think chevrolet should have to check into the problem, because on the internet there are a number of owners with the same airbag problem. Sounds like a safety issue to me. Chevrolet said for a price they will check it. They make it sound like it's the owner's fault, and the more money they can get the better. Sounds like their motto is (money before safety) something needs to be done to help the consumers.

The service air bag soon light came on months before the national recall was announced. It is still on, yet my 2005 is not included in the recall. How am i supposed to get my truck through state inspection with that light on? it should be included in the recall.

Shift indicator , does not light up, various panel lights flash off/on when driving at night, transmission with only 97,000 miles. Google searched alot of same type vehicles have this problem.do not know what gear its in.....transmission went out going down highway had to pull off.....also service airbag light came on......too many things going wrong for anewer vehicle, truck is taken care of very well...

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. While the vehicle was idling at a stop sign, the service air bag warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The vin was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 82,400.

This truck has been garaged since new. Never been in an accident. A few weeks ago the service airbag message came on. I don't believe i should have to fork out money for something that should last the life of the truck.

My 2005 crew cab 4x4 chevy silverado air bag light has come on at 75000 miles.from my short one hour online research there are numerous gm suvs and trucks from 2003 - 2011 with this same issue.most gm certified repair faculties are not able to correct this ***major safety issue*** without significant cost to their auto owners (average cost $400-$3000). Common malfunctioning part - impact sensor 15103522 (average cost of part $100; average analysis cost $200; average labor cost $87 a hour).i did call gm customer service department with no resolve. Case number 71-999598205.i should not have to pay additional cost for a common manufacture safety issue that will result in a cause of death or serious injury.please use our tax dollars wisely in having gm repair this issue at no cost to the owners. (who we, including you, are the taxpayers that bailed out gm...why??? thought that is what chapter 13 bankruptcy is for?) sincerely

Red check airbag light is on constantly.all repair shops indicate that there have been many more, and the expense for repair would run from $450.00 to $1,000.00.it seems that gm already knows about this malfunction, since there are many other reports.since the light is on, the airbag will not work in the event of a crash.it would seem that gm would repair these immediately unless they want another ignition switch catastrophe.it shouldn't take someone dying as a result of this malfunction to get gm to act.as of now, my airbag will not inflate in the event of a crash.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500.while driving approximately 55 mph the service air bag light illuminated on the dashboard. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where he was informed that the air bag connection failed and it was repaired.the failure has since recurred twice.after the second occurrence the vehicle was taken back to an authorized dealer where it was repaired.it was not repaired after the third occurrence.the failure mileage was 12,000 and the current mileage was 65,000.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. While driving at an unknown speed, the air bag warning light intermittently illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 194,000.

Air bag light has come on due to a faulty impact sensor, a part which will cost approximately $200 to replace. Even though i would consider this a major safety issue, i cannot afford repairs.

Light comes on which reads "check passenger air bag". This light comes on when vehicle is started and then remains illuminated until the engine is shut off. Various dealerships and vehicle repair shops have indicated that parts for the air bags are faulty and need to be replaced. Takata recall. The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. The contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated and remained lit. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer was not notified. The vehicle was not included in a recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

Upon starting the truck, everything was fine. I let idle for about 2 to 3 minutes to warm up. After it was warmed up, i looked down onto the dash and noticed the warning text "service air bag". Also the airbag light on the left side of the dash was illuminated, to this date i have yet to fix the issue. After research online, it seems that i am not the only one with this problem. This does not affect the function of the truck however if i do get into an accident, the air bags will not deploy. I guess i am willing to take that risk as a trip to the dealer to fix the air bag issue will result in a bill of over $200.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. While starting the vehicle, the driver and passenger side air bags deployed without warning or impact. There were no injuries. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle. While driving, the radio, air conditioner, and instrument panel gauges stopped operating. The contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road and checked the vehicle. While driving, the service air bag warning indicator illuminated. The contact called price kia (1390 richmond rd, charlottesville, va 22911, (833) 394-8325) and was informed that the vin was not included in a recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 20,000.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. The contact stated that the service air bag light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who replaced the air bag sensor. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and offered no assistance. The current and failure mileages were approximately 30,000.updated 06/01/11*lj

One morning it just didn't work. Now it works sometimes. It doesn't work when the truck starts up, then starts working after i stop about 40 miles down the road. Sometimes works, sometimes it says im doing 120 mph or 0 mph. It has a mind of its own. I have to use my gps so i know how fast im going. I think chevrolet should step up and correct this problem. I took it to the dealer and they said there is no recall so i have to pay to fix this problem.

I went to a guys house who was selling a 2005 chevy silverado with 114,000 miles on the cluster. He didn't have the title under his name. He was title skipping. Gave him 5,000.00 that he was asking for on 11/02/2020 then went to find the owner with his name on title. Had him sign the title over to me. Went to dmv and changed the title under my name. Then 11/28/2020 i ran a carfax report to see what maintenance has been done on my truck and it says that my truck had more than 250,000 miles on it. I confront the man that same day. And asked him if he changed the mileage he said yes. I then asked him to give 2,000.00 because the truck is not worth 5,000.00 he said he was not going to give me a penny. So i made a police report that same day on 11/28/2020

Wiring harness caught on fire under dash.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. The contact stated that the instrument panel fractured. The contact was unable to read the gear positions. The manufacturer was notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 81,000. ....updated 08/29/16

The heater blower would not turn off which drained the battery.now both parts need to be replaced. According to chevrolet, this part was a recall item if made from a certain manufacture. Apparently, our part was a different manufacturer which is why we didn't get the recall notice. Since our part failed, perhaps, it is a design defect or the other manufacturers were delinquent during the assembly process as well.please investigate to see if we may qualify for a recall on this part.

The electrical connector for the hvac blower motor resistor caught fire and melted onmy 2005 chevrolet silverado k1500 w/t.

I started my truck and turned the air conditioner on its highest setting while i loaded my two children into their car seats.i had one of my children in their car seats and was putting the second one in his when i smelled smoke and quickly realized there was smoke blowing out of the vents.i got my boys out of their seats and shut the vehicle off.i opened the doors and searched for something to extinguish flames.after grabbing the garden hose and returning to the truck i noticed that there was smoke coming from under the dash but i didn't see any flames.i waited to see it the smoke was getting worse but it wasn't.i opened the hood and nothing was smoking in the engine compartment.i felt around the console and noticed that there were a number of areas that were extremely hot.a day later i tried to see if i could find the location of the fire.i discovered that anytime i had the air conditioner on and the blower on above level "3" something would begin to smoke.before this problem with the air conditioner occurred all of the lights on my instrument panel would periodically turn off while i was driving.there are definitely some major problems with the electrical wiring on this vehicle.i hate to think what could have happened if i didn't catch the problem in time.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. While driving approximately 45 mph with the heater activated, the contact noticed that smoke emitted from the air vents. The vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road where the engine was turned off. The contact inspected under the dashboard and observed that the wiring harness was melted. There were no flames visible. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

2005 silverado truck, interior of truck caught fire in the middle of the night when family is sleeping.believed to have started in power seat motor only days after a new battery replaced.wiring problems versus defective instrument that drew power off the battery to begin fire?

Drove into the garage and parked. A loud explosive noise came from the truck and fumes began funneling throughthe hood of truck.quickly turned off ignition and got out of vehicle.in a few minutes garage was full of intense flames.the heat was so intense itblew open the door into the house and burned/melted the laundry equipment and three rooms, and the second car in the garage, sending smoke damage throughout the entire house.vehicles melted and everything in them and in the garage- mower, snow blower, small equipment and more, was totally destroyed. The firefighters were able to contain the fire to areas identified above. There was extreme smoke damage throughout the entire house.

Just purchased a gsa pickup june 26. June 27 was highway driving it and thought i was going about 60 mph and the speedometer said i was going 30 mph. Went through town at approximately 30 mph and the speedometer read less than 0.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. The contact stated that the dual climate control on the air conditioning/ heating system failed on an intermittent basis; when he had the heat on, one side would blow hot air and the other side cold air and the same failure occurred when the air conditioner was on. He had to drive onto the emergency lane, turn off the engine, and re-start the vehicle. The dealer refuse to inspect the vehicle since thewarranty was no longer valid. The electrical connector on the floorboard would also fail causing the fan to stop working; the heating system/air conditioning system would not function without the fan. He replaced the connectors at his expense twice and the connector failed again. He called the manufacturer and a representative told him that they could not assist him. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The current mileage was approximately 61,000. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving the speedometer displayed an inaccurate speed on the instrumental panel. The vehicle had not been inspected by a dealer or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000. The vin was unavailable.

When turning my a/c, defroster, or heater on between setting 3, 4, and 5 a clicking noise would occur. This happened every time until it finally quit working. When i found out the problem it was found that the wire harness and the blower motor resistor to the heater/a/c was burned up. Seeing the melted plastic surprises me and makes me wonder if it was close to catching on fire. Now i have no a/c, heater, or defrost. I am currently in the process of having the wire harness changed and the blower motor resistor. I will have the old parts available.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. The contact stated that the instrument cluster failed. And he was unable to read the fuel gauge, speedometer or any other gauge on the instrument panel. The contact spoke with the manufacturer and was told that the instrument cluster would only last for 80,000 miles. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage was 85,000. Updated 04/07/11*lj

Speedometer was working fine then started to speed up when i wasn't. It happen everyday. I try to get my cruise set before it starts so not to get a ticket for speeding. Dealer told me to call gm, who in so many words said i would have to pay for the repair, i don't think that a part like this is not like a battery or tires that wear out over a giving amount of time. Gm should fix the problem at no cost to the owner. I have about 46,000 miles on the truck. Just got the prices last week,$400 to $500 to fix. Lets say it's not fixed yet.

He hvac blower and resister went out causing a wiring harness to melt- a burning plastic smell and smoke filled the cabin. The wiring harness melted. Vehicle was in motion with occupants when this occurred.

The speedometer shows a lower speed than what i am actually traveling. I was ticketed for going 31 mph over the speed limit when the gauge showed i was going the speed limit.

Battery went dead and i exchange with a new one. The air conditioner is blowing hot air. The air conditioner and all the electrical was working fine when the pickup was last driven which was about 3 weeks ago. I have been told that parts and labor will be in the $500.00.

1.my father in law hit the exposed heating/cooling fan motor wiring with his foot when entering the passenger side of the vehicle.the wiring or harness is not covered to prevent entanglement or other objects from contacting the wiring.this dislodged the wiring in the connector to the fan motor resistor.2.a consequence is the wiring shorted in the connector and the fuse did not fail.the connector overheated and melted together.the fan motor was shut down at the sign of smoke ( both visual and by smell).fan motor would not operate from this point forward.3. I went to the dealer and was amazed that they stocked this particular harness pn 15862656 as a replacement kit complete with the splice connectors ($95.00).i also purchased the resistor (pn 89019088, cost $54.97), which although probably functioned was melted to the harness of the connector rendering it useless.i installed the kit and rerouted the wiring to eliminate contact by a passengers foot or a tool bucket.

Oil pressure gauge would work sometimes, and sometimes it didn't. Eventually the gauge completely quit working.

The speedometer in my 2005 silverado acts erratically. Reads incorrect speed. Will stop on 80mph when vehicle is standing still. I can no longer rely on the speedometer to accurately display current speed. From online research i found that this is an ongoing problem, since 2003. My truck has approximately 66,000 miles on it currently. The problem first started at around 60,000 miles. It creates an unsafe condition, since i can not determine the correct vehicle speed.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. When the vehicle was started, the heater fan activated and an odor of burnt plastic emerged from the vents. The vehicle was shut off and then restarted. The vehicle was driven to the contact's house. In addition, the digital climate control system reflected the entire time and the area around the vents became really hot on the dashboard. The vehicle was not diagnosed by a dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 152,000.

When taking off from being stopped at a red light i noticed my tachometer & speedometer both bouncing erratically. Tachometer still stays in between 4 and 5 thousand except when engine is off. Speedometer is any where from 30 above to 30 below actual speed. I have been stopped twice for speeding while trying to maintain a constant speed with the flow of traffic since gauges do not work properly. One of the officers who stopped me did not write a ticket because he owns a silverado as well and his speedometer had been out for over 2 months also. Vehicle has less than 80,000 miles on it.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500.while driving 45 mph, the speedometer stopped working properly.the contact crashed the vehicle into a ditch.the dealer has not diagnosed the vehicle.there were no warnings prior to the failure.the current and failure mileages were 54,000.

Was going 55 mph and came to a stop light. The speedometer stayed at 55 mph. When i sped back up the speedometer went up to 150 mph and stayed there. Sometimes it drops back down to 90 mph and the goes back up to 150 mph when i speed back up. It normally stays stuck at 150 mph no matter what speed i'm at.

Noticed upper brake light on while parked in driveway.truck wouldn't start.truck wouldn't accept an extended jump.truck towed.mechanic found the under dash fuse box melted in two different places.truck needed new fuse box. Plugs and interior wiring harness.no modifications to the electrical system had been made to this vehicle. Parts have been saved.$1,745.00 to fix. I see many reports of electrical fires in gm, chevy products on the web with no apparent action to force a fix.vehicles are being destroyed, severely damaged, people and property endangered because they are apparently using cheap, inferior grade products. People would not mind paying a few dollars more to ensure they won't die in a fire or have their house burn down.i'm not a fan of government regulations but if these company's won't voluntarily do the right thing perhaps the government has to mandate specific gauge wiring and contacts.thanks

Intermittent loss of 1st gear/truck starts in 2 or 3rd gear/intermittent trouble codes p0758 and p0740 then codes clear/extremely dangerous when moving into traffic from a stop/ don't know when truck will stall or fail to pick up speed/transmission shops say can't help until codes are set/emailed chevrolet regarding problem/ vehicle has 45000 miles and is not due for service on the transmission until 50000 miles/trucks transmission should not start failing at only 45000 miles/ chevy's response is vehicle past warranty period not responsible for repairs

I have a 2005 chevy silverado driving down the road i noticed a burning smell coming from my heater vents so i shut the truck off and jump out well in a nut shell my blower fan motor wiring harness had caught on fire i have heard that this is a problem in just about every gm truck so i ask what will it take for gm to recall this problem will it take someone to die for it to happen you be the judge.

In june 2012while driving the speedometer went back to 0 when going 65 mph. Since that incident it happens periodically. Additionally the tachometer doesn't register rpms accurately for over two years, also sometimes goes to 0. I was never notified of a recall and have owned truck since 2006. The speedometer is a major safety issue.

Wiring harness to the heater motor got very hot at connection and melted the connector plug.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving various speeds, the contact noticed that both the fuel gauge and speed odometer readings fluctuated. The failure occurred sporadically. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The vehicle had not been repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

2005 chevy silverado with 46,000 miles speedometer stuck at 60 mph and won't move.

2005 chevy silverado 1500 approx 92,000 tack and fuel gauge failed. Prior to 92,000 tack would intermittently jump between 0 and 2,000 rpm but return to normal shortly afterward. This started around 85,000. Now it stays at 6,000 rpm and doesn't move. Fuel gauge is a complete failure and not accurate at all.

Speedometer failure.

Speedometer does not read correctly, ie. When it says i'm going the speed limit, i am flying past other cars, it reads about 20mph lower than i am really cruising at.car is just out of warranty 38k miles, gm is aware and won't replace free of charge.as i understand, it is a common problem on 2005's as well as 04 an 03 models.gm will replace 03 and 04's (same instrument cluster) why not the 05's??

I presently own a 2005 chevy silverado crew cab, present mileage is 55,000.as i was driving, i noticed my speedometer needle shot up to 100 and then proceeded to move past 120 mph line.it is currently stuck past the 120mph limit.this is a safety issue that's needs to be corrected.there are other consumers with the similar problem and yet there is no factory recall on this.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500.the contact attempted to start the vehicle, but was unsuccessful.there were no warning indicators illuminated and no power.she had the vehicle towed to the dealer and they stated that the starter motor failed.the vehicle was repaired at the contact's expense.she noted that she previously experienced electrical failures with the vehicle.the stereo system had to be replaced three times as well as wires within the engine and heating system.the manufacturer offered her no assistance.the current mileage was 65,873 and failure mileage was 65,870.

Heater resistor, and wiring connector both melted to point that they had to be replace. This is on going problem that could cause afire or worst. I talk to gm service people and could not get answer. I check internet for part because gm wanted to much for their. That when i read about alot more people having the same problem and gm wont help fix the problem.

Driving down the road and the cab filled up with smoke.it smelled like burning rubber.i had to evacuate my youngest son and found that the wires on the blower/resistor where on fire.there seems to be a known issue with this and i am surprised that nobody had been killed so far.looks like the recall was done in canada?http://www.arfc.org/complaints/2005/chevrolet/silverado/electrical_system/problem.aspx.

I have a 2005 chevrolet silverado that has 2 main issues with truck. The first on is dealing with the air condition system. The relay for the fan motor directly under the dash burnt, and after doing research on the computer i found that this was common with this year model chevy. I called the chevrolet hot line number and there were no recalls on this part. I then went to the dealership and found out that they had replacement parts in stock due to the frequency of the part being purchased. This part was replaced and 2 months afterwards the air conditioning and heat went out again, but was not the same part. This time the fan motor was diagnosed as the problem. I have not fixed this part due to myself not feeling it is my obligation to spend several hundred dollars fixing stuff that is common throughout truck of the same year and make. This part that was replaced got very hot and smoked when going out. There is definitely a safety issue with this part catching on fire and my child not able to ride in my vehicle during hot summer months due to parts messing up constantly. By the way no fuse every burn up in this process until after fan motor went out. The second issue i have is the instrument cluster on my truck. The engine hours meter has reset twice now which wasn't a big deal, but the gear selection on the dash is now starting to not work properly.i recently went to leave from work and went putting the truck in drive the indication on the dash stayed in park. The truck was in gear though because i didn't realize that this had happened until after getting on the road. I pulled over and went back to park with the shifter. After doing so the indication worked. I am afraid that this will start happening more frequent along with the engine hours clearing. I am sure something else is to follow that could be major to the drive train due to the excessive electronic technologies on vehicles now. Thank you for looking into these problems.

Giving me a message that says service air bag.also having problems with instrument panel lights fading out.

Fan motor resistor melted causing plastic to burn and smoke badly part cost $100 for the wiring $80 for the resistor$160 labor.with all the tax dollars given to gm they were not willing to help with this known problem.they said they change these everyday.there was actually two of them sitting on the parts counter ready to be replaced for someone else when i walked in. This is a true safety problem and we would like some help.

The speedometer and tach gauges have been messed up for nearly a year now and i can not get gm to fix the problem. It is on an 05 silverado and they refuse to do anything to any truck after 04.

The contact owns 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500.the contact stated that the gear shifter was not illuminating. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 77,500 and the current mileage was 78,000.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500.the contact stated that the heater fan resistor melted.the dealer diagnosed that the wiring harness needed to be replaced.the manufacturer was not notified of the failure.the failure was not remedied.the failure mileage was 100,000. The current mileage was 105,000. Updated 09/28/11*ljthe consumer stated there was no fire, but the insulation had melted off of the wiring going into the resistor on the hvac fan. Updated 12/30/11

Used aux port to charge cell phone. With in seconds smoke starts coming from dash. After containing fire i removed dash cover to find that the power wire that controls aux port and obd2 port had over loaded and caught fire with caused internal damage to all electrical and internal dash. After doing complete walk through i noticed in fuse box under the hood that the fuse that controls 2 auxs had melted down. Right fuse was installed before electrical fire. During time of incident vehicle was mobile in town on public roads. After cab of pick up started filling with smoke i pulled over and used chemical fire extinguisher to smother flames.

Electrical fire hazard that affects the heater, air conditioner, cruise control, abs, and brakes on 2005 chevrolet silverado model trucks.a short in the electrical system is common on these vehicles and know by the dealerships to effect multiple points as a direct result of a short in the electrical system which could lead to an electrical fire or serious injury from system failures.items that are affected include but are not limited to fuse box, wire harness, wire connectors, the heater/ac blower motor, fuses, relays, and many other parts.the system short that occurred in this vehicle was identified by the dealership without even seeing the burned parts.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500.while driving approximately 35 mph, the speedometer displayed 75 mph.when the vehicle came to a complete stop, the speedometer displayed 45 mph.the vehicle was driven to the dealer and they stated that there was a recall on the 2003 and 2004 silverado's pertaining to the speedometer, but there were no recalls on his 2005 vehicle.there were no repairs performed on the vehicle and the speedometer began operating properly a couple of days later.approximately one year later, while driving 35 mph, the speedometer displayed 80 mph.the dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure.the current mileage was 58,000 and failure mileage was 50,000.

The wires leading to a/c blower are shorting out one at a time. It started with the climate control set on hi stopped working then went on down to 4. Could possible short out and cause a fire. I have not yet purchased the new parts to replace looked online first to see if there had been a recall for this problem.

Speedometer not displaying correctly. Gauge sits at 30mph while at stop and while driving goes to 70+mph. Turning the truck off and on does not fix problem. Contacted chevrolet to see if there was a recall on this. There was no recall although i am seeing that there are other chevy silverado owners that have made complaints. Local chevrolet dealer states approximately $600.00 to fix. Have not fixed as of today. I feel this is a a safety issue that gm/chevrolet needs to fix.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500.while driving approximately 55 mph, the contact noticed that the speedometer displayed 120 mph.since this first incident, the speedometer registers the vehicle's speed at 100 mph, even while at a complete stop.the vehicle was driven to the dealer and they stated that his vin was not included in the recall.the manufacturer agreed and stated that they were not liable for the repairs.the vehicle has not been repaired and there has been no definitive diagnosis.the current mileage was 69,032 and failure mileage was 68,500.

My 2005 chevrolet silverado has a defective speedometer. It started around 45,000 miles and only happened a few times. Now it happens about every other day and the only way to reset it is to stop the vehicle and turn it off and start it back up. This only resets it about 5mph each time i restart the vehicle so i will have to do it as many as 10 to 15 times to get it back to zero.

I am the owner of 2005 chevy silverado 1500 truck. About a month or less ago my speedometer quit working stays on 120 or 0 whether it is parked or while driving it. We called the dealer that we bought this truck new from and the maintenance man said it was under warr up to 70,000 miles which my mileage is 46711. The next day we recv a call saying it is not under warr because of our vin # is not covered. The dealer gave me a # to call gm motors and i have talked with several people there and all are saying the vin# is not good only some vin#'s are under the 7 year or 70,000. I drive my truck to workonly,do monthly maint on it through walmart, i feel this is a safety concern for me since i feel ita defect on the truck and either gm or the dealer needs to replace this part@ their cost not mine. They can not give me a reason why only some vin#s are covered. I have checked on the internet and it shows alot of people with the same problem as mine. Hope you can help me with thisthank you.

Rust corrosion has worn through to affect electrical lines - rear lights no longer work. Have already replaced the dashboard console electrical. Gas fuel light stays on which is related to the circuitry electrical system and affects "smog" system. Main problem is, right now, the safety and driveability of this truck due to rusting through underbody to the drive shaft and axel/brake system (nevermind the rear lights not working) will this truck fail on the road when driving?

Speedometer on my 2005 chevrolet silverado quit working. It is pegged on over 120 mph when not moving. Sometimes moves but on the average it displays 60-70 mph faster than actual speed.

1. Speedometer stopped working creating unsafe driving condition.2. Appears to be permanent breakage.3. Gm agreed to replace faulty part, but i still had to pay for labor.they agreed that the part is faulty yet still hold the customer financially accountable for their unsafe mistake.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving 75 mph, he noticed in the rear view mirror that the vehicle was on fire. He pulled over and noticed that wires on top of the gas tank were the source of the fire. The fire department was called and extinguished the fire. The contact had plans to have the vehicle towed to a dealer. The manufacturer was notified but offered no assistance. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure and current mileage was 93,000.

The ignition lock has not worked on this vehicle for close to 5 years. After starting the vehicle, the key may be removed at any time while the engine is running or being driven.

I had just driven to the local walmart to get supplies before the freezing rain and ice got here. It was 15:50, about an house before the friday night after work christmas rush would be rushing home. After starting my truck, and letting it warm a little so the heat from defroster would melt the ice and clear the fog on the windows which enables me to drive safely. It is also against state law to drive with unclear windows. Well, to make a long story short, my 5 speed manual select blower switch does nothing. When i bought the truck, i told them speeds 4 and 5 don't work. I know from past experience that the resistors can go out. They would not fix. Well now, all are out. I managed to get a little hot air on windshield but decided it was unsafe to drive and returned to get truck the next day. After googling "blower motor fan relay switch" i was amazed at how many people have had this problem for decades. Before i retired, i worked for at&t as a technician. We deal with corroded wires and electronic equipment damaged by water on a daily basis. After removing the resister module, it was very obvious it was damaged by water. Not only that, it was designed to be protected from water by having two seals, one foam, one rubber built into it. Of course these were probably placed into the module by a machine because you could they didn't fit properly into the slots they were designed to fit it. Not only that, the wires that were suppose to be sodered (sp) to the resistors must have been done by a machine as well, you could see the two components were pressed together by something not done by a worker, and no soder (sp) was visible. On top of that, after testing one of the resistors, which tested good., the wire that was suppose to be making contact with the resister was testing open, meaning bad connection. Whoever made this module for gm is at fault. This is a fire hazard.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. The contact stated that the speedometer gauge fluctuated at initial start up and whenever driving over an extended period of time. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.

It seems i have the same issue as most the blower works randomly. I have also smelled smoke. The blower stays on after the car has been shut off and i have exited the vehicle. Second time i have had issues first time was covered by warranty.

My blower motor wiring melted and almost caught fire.i had it replaced under warranty once.15 months later the same thing happened.i am smart enough to disconnect it before it caused a fire but it is no longer under warranty.the second time it happened it would not shut off after i turned the engine off and pulled the key. Had i not known how to disconnect it my truck surely would have been damaged.

2005 chevrolet silverado gauge cluster is defective and is malfunctioning at 75,000 miles on the vehicle. Creates an inability to determine speed or operation accuracy of the vehicle. No notice from gm concerning recall. My research indicates multiples of this defect occurring nationwide.

Blower motor speed controller resistor and relay wiring melted smell of smoke and electrical arcing damaged wiring and connectors causing danger to occupants from possible fire. Blower runs with key off and fuse pulled out. Battery dead, standing driver. Economic ham from cost to repair by ripoff gm dealer refused to cover under the special offer warranty.

Defective cd players. Will not eject cd and this is a problem for almost all cd players in the 03-06 models. I personally know 4 people with this problem, and there are thousands of reports in forums on the internet.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500.while driving approximately 20 mph on normal road conditions, smoke expelled from the instrument panel without warning.immediately, the driver pulled over to inspect underneath the hood and disconnected the battery.suddenly, flames erupted from the instrument panel.the fire department was called to the scene and extinguished the fire.a report was filed.there were no personal injuries or property damage.the vehicle was completely destroyed and towed to a collision center.the cause of the failure has not been determined.the manufacturer was notified of the failure.the vin was unknown.the failure and current mileages were 55,000.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. The contact stated that the speedometer would read inaccurately while the vehicle was shut off and while driving on the highway. Both the dealer and manufacturer were notified, but denied any assistance with repairs of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximately failure and current mileages were 57,000.

2005 ls 2wd chevy silverado speedometer sticks at one speed or shows incorrect speed. This is a daily issue.

The odometer read 47,000 then a week later read 7,000 a week after read error and is error now.

The speedometer would stick anywhere above 60 whether i was at a complete stop or not.this went on over a year because chevrolet said not enough complaints were issued.i almost got a ticket just going with the flow of traffic so i paid almost $500.00 to have it fixed.not safe at all in school zones.

I was driving to the store and when i looker at my speedometer i was doing 110mph and when i came to a stopit displayed 60mph that happened 12/31/08 at 70,000 miles. So far my problems with my 2005 silverado at 20,000 miles i had the steering wheel clump fixed by packing it with grease now the problem is back,at 60,000 miles my fuel pump failed on a road trip after i started to fill hesitation like starving for gas- cost$ 700.00, at 65,000 miles the catalytic converter was plugged up the engine light came on and would blink and would hesitate really bad when you would punch it into passing gear. It didn't cost me anything because of the emission law 70,000 or 7yrs,and it just turned over 70,000. But i still love my truck and i always drive a chevy. That fuel pump could be fixed easy if they would put a access door in the truck bed because gm fuel pumps are junk, same thing happened to my chevy astro.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500.while driving approximately 50 mph, the contact smelled burning wire underneath the dashboard.he looked under the dashboard and discovered a red, glowing, burning wiring harness, which he then unplugged.the blower motor resistor and the wiring harness failed.the current mileage was 68,357 and failure mileage was 66,000.

This is not a rare complaint. Factually, several retailers on ebay sell discussed replacement parts; and they reveal the burnt, burning, and or melted parts in the parts auctions descriptions! this should be a recalled item! 1. While operating vehicle, driver & three passengers smelled something burning or fire within the passenger/cab compartment of our 2005 silverado, followed shortly, within 2 minutes of air conditioning blower assembly failure. That is, we smelled something burning and the air conditioning quit working. Upon further investigation, removal of the air conditioning "resistor" (p/n "52408586, 42/04 slovania") revealed a severely burnt and melted [male] "resistor" connector and [female] wiring harness connector (refer to (3) for resistor and harness replacement part numbers). (2) the failure occurred once, catastrophically; consequently, a vehicle fire ensues; and, at a minimum, vehicle components remain damaged beyond repair. It is important to note, however, fuses fail to prevent said fire or damage. (3) replaced air conditioning blower "resistor gm# 8901-9088 [and] connectorres-blo #1586-2656; note: replacement parts do not appear to be updated or revised; situation likely to reoccur.

2005 chevy silverado.speedometer stopped working at 92,000 miles.

The headlamps , exterior lamps , all lights on dash , window and door lock switches , radio , a/c switches and gauges flicker. The gauges , ie.. Fuel , water temp , tach , voltage meter and oil pressure gauge fluctuate. Im afraid they will permanently go out while driving at night. I've tried dimming the headlamps , adjusting the rheostat and other things with no change. My truck is now past warranty on the mileage. I noticed a service bulletin on my insurance website. The bulletin is 1001986 . According to this service bulletin gm has been having this problem for quite some time as the bulletin was sent jan. 2001 and still has 2005 models [what i have] included in that bulletin. I went to my dealer and requested info on the specific bulletin so that i could make repairs and was first told by the serv. Writer that she did not have access to serv. Bulletins. I told her that i had been a service manager for a toyota dealer and knew that if she was a service writer then she did indeed have access to bulletins she admitted she did . I then asked again for a copy of the bulletin and she then said she wasn't authorized to give that info. I paid almost 40k for this truck and that's the service you get from gm. It seems that if so many vehicles having the same problem at least 6 consecutive years you guys should investigate and mandate a recall as your driving lamps are a vital part of the safety with the vehicle.

Last week i smelled something burning in my truck. Investigated and found insulation was melting off heater blower wires at plug under dash. Three of the wires had a half inch of exposed conductor showing at pigtail. At same time, my heater fan switch quit working at the two highest speed settings. After researching this problem on internet, i had to replace blower resistor and wire pigtail. Fan switch works now, but vent selector switch doesn't work now. Melted wires could have caused truck to catch on fire. I have old resistor and melted pigtail.

2005 chevy silverado 1500 pick-up. Odometer failure. Dealer wants $475.00.warranty per dealer not available as mileage too high.

With the heater on high (setting 5), the fan stopped blowing heat. I then set the blower to setting 4, and the fan worked fine. As soon as i then put the fan back to 5, i would hear a click but the fan would not work at all. I then began to fiddle around with the connector that is under the passenger side dash which powers the fan. If i move the one wire around, the fan would intermittently work while on setting 5. I unplugged this connector from the blower motor, noticed that the one wire seems as if it was causing a short (the wire was somewhat black from over current). I removed the pin from the connector, recrimped and soldered it. Worked fine until a few weeks ago when the fan once again began to stop only on setting 5. I am assuming that the problem is once again the connector that goes to the blower motor powering the fan resistor. I saw a few reports of this on here about vehicle fires all of which point to this connection being bad. So i thought i would submit this as well due to the vast amount of issues i have had with this truck.

2005 chevy silverado 1500.after my vehicle was towed the speedometer stopped working.it reads 16 mph while stopped and stays 16 mph over whatever speed i'm traveling.chevy needs to do something about this.too many people are have the same issue.

My truck as dual ac controls, while driving the driver side air blows hot air while air conditioner is on. If you turn the truck off and then back on it fixes the problem for sometime 2min and sometimes 30 min.i know multiple people that have the same problem as me, i have seen hundreds of people on forums that have the same problem with the same truck and others such as the tahoe, avalanche, suburban of same year and different years. Some forums that i have read stated that the truck could catch fire, i am very concerned about the situation, most people say that the parts to fix the problem are around $500 - $700, but this is occurring in hundreds if not thousands of gm vehicles.

While using a 12v air pump plugged into the cigarette lighter outlet with the vehicle off and no key in ignition, it shortly stopped working. Soon after smoke starting coming from behind the dash trim. I quickly disconnected the battery and pulled off the front trim housing the cigarette lighter to find the wire's insulation melted. I then looked for the fuse for that and found it to be melted as well. The fuse was rated at 15a, and the correct fuse recommend by gm. After pulling the fuse, i reconnected the battery and had no more smoke. Using a continuity tester, i checked both wires for, and confirmed, short to ground on both. The entire line of wires going back to the fuse box may be just as melted and thus still shorting to ground.

Noticed electrical burning odor while on long trip on interstate. Occasionally operated the air conditioning, with blower on high. One week later, blower motor failed to operate on highest (5) setting. Pulled 7 pin connector from blower resistor, found red wire and connector for high speed, burned/melted.

I own a chevy silverado 1500 z71 extended cab and the speedometer sticks and says im going 100mph when im barely even rolling it seems to happen when the outside temp got below 30 degrees f that my speedometer would stop working. When it warmed up 10-15 degrees it would start working again. Gm needs to recall this due to it can result in a accident and can be fatal if i don't know how fast i am going as well as it is illegal! if it does result in a ticket gm will be paying for it- gm claims they stand by their product and so be it they need to fix it!this is a safety problem. And needs to be covered 100% free of charge!

There is a safety recall on the shift lever indicator but my truck was not included and i have that exact sam issue. I cannot tell what gear my truck is in why isnt my vehicle included? my vehicle was stationary and gradually started to fade at start up.

Chevy 05 silverado speedometer quit working. Apparently this is not uncommon with this truck and needs to be repaired by gmc. I am not good at judging speed and will be prone to being ticketed.

While parked the blower motor for the climate system continued to run.the keys were removed, engine off.upon discovery i could not turn off the blower.i decided to take it to a shop.before i could leave the parking lot the cab was full of a thick white smoke.i was able to shut the engine off and disconnect the battery before a fire started.the dealership said it was a common problem.there is no recall on it though as the dealer is not reporting the occurrences to gm so nobody is aware of the frequency.an easy internet search returns many occurrences of similar problems.

Speedometer stopped working after it ran at 120 mph for awhile.

The wiring harness to the blower motor resistor in my 2005 chevrolet started smoking, from excess heat within the wiring to the harness or resistor.i have since replaced the harness and resistor, but it still does the same thing.hopefully this faulty wiring harness is the only one in these models.

2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. Operated ac and started to smell something burning coming out of vents. Researched online and identified several other complaints with same issue. Contacted chevrolet and they stated there is nothing they can do to assist.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500.the contact stated that the speedometer would malfunction intermittently.while driving 20 mph, the speedometer would indicate that she was driving 60 mph.when the vehicle would be parked, the speedometer would indicate that the vehicle was being driven at 120 mph.the failure would usually correct itself or reset after a couple of hours; however, it recently became stuck and failed to reset.the dealer could not assist because the vehicle was outside of the warranty.the manufacturer has not been notified.the current mileage was approximately 64,000 and failure mileage was approximately 63,800.

While slowing down and letting off the gas while making a turn the truck started speeding back up, braking did stop the truck and no revving occurred. After breaking to a complete stop and letting of the gas the truck would start moving forward as if the gas is being applied-speeding up gradually. Put the truck in reverse and same thing happened. Turned truck off and back on the problem did not persist.

I own a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. I smelled burned plastic and my fan stopped working on #4 and #5 settings.i removed the resistor and saw the connections had overheated and melted.

I was driving to work, had lower and heat on. First i smelled something burning, then i noticed smoke coming from behind glove box and through the passenger dash vents.i had my truck towed to the dealer.i started the truck again while there and noted same problem.i turned my truck off and the blower and took my keys out of the ignition, but the blower continued to smoke.i had to call the fire department who came out, disconnected the battery and found burned wires behind the glove box.the dealer blamed it on a resistor and a wiring harness connected to the blower motor which burned out.they replaced the blower connector and resistor.i asked twice for the defective parts to be returned to me but the dealer did not comply with my request.the truck has a strong smell of smoke in it upon its return to me.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. While having the vehicle repaired by an independent repair shop for an unrelated issue she noticed that the speedometer was not functioning. She was advised that the failure occurred within the instrument cluster.the vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 90,347.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. The contact stated that the instrument panel lighting system failed; therefore, the contact was unable to know how fast he was driving and unable to see or read any of the gauges. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. The dealer stated that the instrument cluster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 143,000 and the current mileage was 147,000.

Speedometer failure on 2005 chevy silverado speedometerregisters wrongspeed at 60mphreads 20mph.

Instrument cluster panel (shift indicator) stopped illuminating. All other items work in cluster. Its so dim you cant tell which gear your in. (there is a recall but we were told we were not covered). The entire cluster must be replaced.and you can only get the part at the dealer because they need to the vin and mileage on the vehicle.2. One of the main brake lines burst..yesterday 10-16-2013 while my wife was driving with my son. I am told all the lines must be replaced because they are all corroded.

Speedometer not working properly.have 65,000 miles and it is registering 120 mph and at stop signs 60 mph.dealer said notice was only good for 2003-2004 models - dealer said the 2005 models were fixed--that is not so and i'm proof.very disappointed that chevrolet does not accept responsiblity for their malfunction.this could create a serious crash as well as tickets.

I have a silverado 2005 pickup.my speedometer goes to 120 mph just driving down my driveway.

The inside and outsides lights started going off by themselves. There was no smoke or burning smell. My husband was going too have it checked out on presidents day, but the truck burnt the day before.our insurance would not cover it due to normal wear and tear. So here we are out vehicle.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500.while driving at an unknown speed, the driver noticed that the speedometer was stuck on 128 mph.the following day, she noticed that the speedometer was still registering 128 mph and the vehicle was not running.the contact has an appointment at her local dealer for the vehicle to be inspected.the contact called the manufacturer and was advised to take the vehicle to the dealer for inspection.the manufacturer stated that no compensation would be made because there were no current recalls for the vehicle.the failure mileage was 35,000 and current mileage was 35,200.

I have a 2005 chevy silverado and the resistor caught fire and now i dont have ac or heat in my truck. This happens to everybody i have know that has an 05 chevy silverado at 50,000 miles.

As we were driving down the street black smoke started to come out of the air conditioning vents. Then i noticed flames and melted plastic coming out of the bottom of the glove box area. We pulled our child from the burning truck and called 911. Fire trucks were there in less than 4 minutes but by that time the entire passenger cab was engulfed in flames and there were at least two separate explosions that blew out all the windows, my husband thinks that the airbags exploded. The truck is a complete loss and we are lucky to have escaped with only minor injuries. We could have been killed or seriously injured.

I own a 2005 chevy silverado 1500 pkup [xxx] and have been experiencing speedometer inaccuracy readings.when the problem started, i was traveling 70 mph and the speedometer dropped to 0.then when traveling 40-50 mph the speedometer would not exceed 20 mph.after noting the problem, i have contacted 2 local auto repairs that referred me to the gm dealer to address the problem as i was advised gm was aware of the issue (instrument cluster failure) and had issued a special coverage adjust.after contacting the local gm dealership, i was advised that i should contact gm cust svc as they were aware of the problem and unfortunately my vehicle had exceeded the mileage qualification.the dealership confirmed that they did not agree with gm's policy to only repair vehicles with 70k or less and said the issue should have been a "recall" but that gm would have had to repair all vehicles and instead they chose the course of least resistance.after dealing with 2 repair shops, dealership and gm cust svc, i was advised by gm that the repair would be my responsibility unless the dealership would agree to cover the charges of approx $700 and 2-3 days repair time.while trying to get this resolved, i was stopped by the local sheriff's dept and issued a tkt for 66 mph in a 55 mph zone at a cost of $175.i told the officer that i was only traveling 55-60 and made no attempt to slow down as i had no reason to assume that i was speeding.the long and short of the issue is this is exactly what i tld the gm customer service rep could happen and i considered it a safety issue as it appears the speedometer continues to provide inaccurate reading until i can get the matter resolved.the dealership supports my position as they are aware of my efforts to resolve the issue.i am appalled that gm is taking the same approach as toyota in trying to minimize the problem instead of fixing the problem.based on pending action...no more gm. The speedometer stopped working on a highway trip. It just gradually goes to 0 mph. After restarting it works for a while than fails again.

Whether vehicle is in motion or at idle, the "climate (duel) control on driver's side suddenly stops blowing cold air and blows pure hot air. This beyond the operator's control.however, when the ignition is turned off and restarted, air conditioner starts blowing cold again but sooner or later will begin blowing hot.there is nothing that the operator does to cause this to happen, but it is very frustrating and embarrassing when it happens while driving.by the way i had a 2004chevrolet silverado that done the same thing.this is happens any time the control is set to cool.

I have a 2005 chevy silverado. The speedometer is defective and the cause is due to a bad stepper motor.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. After starting the engine, the speedometer would erroneously increase to 75 mph. Once the vehicle began to accelerate, the speedometer would increase to and remain at 100 mph until the engine was turned off. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 61,300.

The speedometer stopped started registering about 20 miles an hour below what i estimated i was driving at the time.the speedometer then started working properly 2 days later and then all of a sudden it just stopped working all together.the consequences are that i can't tell how fast i am driving and could lead to speeding tickets or accidents.

Stopped at stop sign and speedometer reads over 120 mph. Only have 52,000miles 2005 chevy silverado. Stays maxed all the time.

My speedometer don't give correct reading while driving or parked. Actually don't work right at all!

Was driving normally when i came to a stop light. Instead of the speedometer dropping down to zero it stayed a 60 mph. The speedometer bounced up and down for awhile and now it just stays stuck on 150 mph. Every once in awhile it will drop down to 90 mph, but then gets stuck back on 150 mph when i start driving again.

2005 chevrolet silverado speedometer stops working and/or sticks between 40 and 60mph at rest.this appears to be a common gm truck issueand it's a common topic on the gm message boards as well.gm apparently knows of the problem but no recall has been issued.this needs to be recalled as it is a very common defect.your immediate help is requested.because we are unable to gauge speed accurately this has created a dangerous safety concern that could place others (the public) at risk.

My speedometer stopped working.

2005 chevy crew cab. Speedometer problem. Incorrect speed reading. 17 year old son now drives truck and concerned about safety and tickets. Is gm going to recall this obvious safety hazard. Concerned parent.

Our 2005 chevy silverado's speedometer broke at 57, 218 miles.we called a dealership in the area and were told that there are no current recalls for this and told me that they wouldn't be able to do anything for me.i told them that i do not think a speedometer should break when the vehicle has less than 60,000 miles on it.i found a recall online, but evidently it doesn't cover my vehicle...only certain 2005 silverado models....i don't feel i should have to pay for yet another thing to break on this vehicle (hub assembly twice, actuator broke 3 times before the dealership would actually listen to us and fix it correctly).i want to file a complaint to be pro active and report the problem in the hope that gm will do something about it and start making their vehicles better.

I have a 2005 chevy silverado.last winter my speedometer began to malfunction (stick).now it is stuck at 120 mph all the time.this is unsafe and appears to be a problem among a lot of the 05 silverado's. There is a recall on the 03 model and 04 model.i've done research online and there is a lot of people at the moment waiting on a recall.

I was operating the vehicle on the interstate. The speedometer showed 70 mph; however, everyone was passing me. I pulled over to investigate but the speedometer would not go lower than 30 at a complete stop. It did go back to 0 within a few a days; however, it is again showing 20 mph at a dead stop. Dealers/mechanics have given me three different stories as to how to fix the problem. Per a lot of other similar reports, this appears to be a defect with the vehicle and should not be at my expense. It is a severe safety factor. I've always been a chevy silverado man but i'm feeling disappointed in gm by not backing their product like they used to do.

At about 60,000 miles my 2005 gm chevy s1500 silverado truck's speedometer began to act erratically in posting the speed of the truck. At about 70,000 miles this problem became permenant and the only solution was to repair the problem at an estimated cost of $450. The problem was whether the car was stopped, even with the engine off, the speedometer would register different speeds at anywhere from 20 to 90 mph. On the highway it would even go past the max speed of 120 mph. The obvious danger here is that the driver has no idea exactly how fast the truck is traveling. While getting cost estimates to repair the problem. The mechanic phoned to get the part or parts needed to repair the problem. The person supplying the part knew immediately what the part cost and other details related to repairing it. Obviously, this is an ongoing problem with these gm chevy silverado trucks and should be corrected by the manufacturer as the truck has less than 100,000 miles on it.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500.while driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle would not shift into third gear and the instrument panel was blank.the dealer stated that the transmission and instrument panel failed.the dealer was willing to replace the instrument panel for free, but the transmission would be the contact's responsibility.the contact referenced technical service bulletin number 10025462 (power train:automatic transmission).the current and failure mileages were 74,000. Speedometer works intermittently.

The speedometer is erratic, displaying 40, 50, 80 mph running, sitting still in park.then will peg to 130 mph when driven.later, it will eventually correct itself after cranking 4, 5, 8 times and work properly temporarily.then repeat.this is a common, known problem with these gauge clusters and chevrolet div. Refuses to fix at no cost because the truck is outside the timeframe stated in "special policy # 07187", but it meets the mileage and vin criteria.to the best of my knowledge, the truck did not fail during the stated timeframe.cost of the repair is $560 and i believe chevrolet should fix it at no cost to the owner.

Speedometer failure on 2005 chevroletpickupwhich could lead to ticket for speeding or eventually accident.dealership said this was a common occurrence on these vehicles.found outthatthere is a recall for 2003 and 2004 models. This is an expensive item for me to pay out of my pocket.why is there not a vehicle recallfor 2005 models when this occurs all the time?my vehicle currently has 69,000 miles.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500.while the vehicle was in park with the engine on, the instrument panel caught fire.the inside of the vehicle was damaged.the dealer asked the contact to call back the following day to speak with a manager.the failure and current mileages were 50,000. Speedometer works intermittently and does not indicate the correct speed.when working, it may indicate speeds up to 30 mph less than the actual vehicle speed.it does not indicate higher speeds, only lower or not at all.

While driving speedometer reads wrong but odometer is ok? stop and turn off it works ok for a time.try to start sometimes it will crank other time it don't gm extended the warranty to cover the dash panel but did not notify me or anyone that i know of i found it online after time had expired (speedometer) and will also control engine cranking .

Speedometer failure at 70,000 miles. Stuck on 120mph.

I have a 2005 chevy silverado 1500 the speedometer shows it is going 120 mph sitting at a stop sign.from online research i found that this is an ongoing problem, since 2003. My truck has 38,720miles on it currently.it creates an unsafe condition, since i can not determine the correct vehicle speed.

Driving on the highway at about 65 miles per hour, speedometer suddenly started fluctuating wildly and now will not work.the needle sits anywhere from 0 mph to 120 mph but is never accurate.i could be going down the highway at 65 mph and the speedometer reads 120 mph, or completely stopped and the speedometer reads 90 mph.

2005 chevy silverado 1500 instrument panel acting up, speedometer in particular does not work anymore. But seeing tach and oil pressure gage acting up also. I have 134,000 miles on it but the speedometer has been acting uparound 80,000 and recently just quit. I have read that gm is willing to fix but has to be under certain requirements. They know they have a problem they should fix all under a recall which i have not seen.

Speedometer began to act erratically then ceased to function.

Purchased a 2005 chevrolet k1500 silverado used in 10/2009.in 01/2010 the speedometer stopped working at approximately 72k miles.dealership advised us that this is a known problem in several gm full size trucks and suvs 2003-2007 model years.gm will not fully cover the cost to replace the defective part.we argue that a speedometer is not a wear and tear item, that the presence of multiple complaints by thousands of consumers prove that this part is consistently failing.we argue that proper operation of a speedometer has a direct impact on the safe operation of a vehicle.we believe that gm should be required to fully cover the cost of the replacement at no expense to the owner of all affected vehicles.if a speed related crash resulted and the liable party was driving an affected vehicle, gm would share in the liability of that loss.this again points that this is a safety component that is consistently failing in thousands of these vehicles.

I have a 2005 chevy silverado and all the dashboard gauges stopped working. When i called gm they said they knew about this problem, but never sent out any notices.they would cover parts and labor for mileage of 80,000 and below. My truck has 102,200 miles. I feel gm should stand up for their products no matter the mileage.it is nothing that i did to cause the gauges to stop working.

The speedometer reading is very erratic and does not display the correct speed any more.speedometer reads 30mph + while sitting still.gm dealer claimed that the vehicle is outside the 70,000 mile replacement period since the vehicle has 80,000 miles on it.

Speedometer is erratic.started at approximately 65,000 miles.speedometer maxes out, does not work or reads improperly.dealer informed me that the 03 and 04 models have a recall on the stepper motor but the 05 model does not have a recall.the speedometer does not function properly 90% of the time.do not know exactly how fast the vehicle is going.vehicle has approximately 72,000 miles now and the problem still exists.dealer said that a replacement would cost approximately $500 to fix.who can afford this after paying for a $35,000 vehicle.especially after having the steering shaft replaced numerous times, new intake gaskets, catalytic converters, blower motor wires smoked and melted.just a junky truck for the high price.

Around december 2009 i noticed that my tachometer was working intermittently.the problem has now moved over to my speedometer which is registering my speed +/- 25 mph off the actual speed.this is worse than me texting while driving as i am always having to pace my speed with over vehicles or trying to mentally gauge my actual speed.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500.when the contact attempted to drive the vehicle, the speedometer stopped working.the dealer stated that the speedometer module needed to be replaced.the contact did not notice any differences beforehand.the current and failure mileages were 37,000. The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. The contact stated that the instrument panel failed along with the heat in the vehicle. She cited it as an electrical problem; none of the gauges were functioning. She noticed that the speedometer seemed to have been replaced previously. She took the vehicle to the dealer and she was told that the entire instrument panel needed to be replaced. She called the manufacturer and was informed that they could not assist her. The vehicle had not been repaired to-date. The current mileage was 31,015. The failure mileage was approximately 29,000. Updated 01/1410 updated 01/20/10.

Driving to work on i-80. Speedometer just went to zero. Stopped at rest stop and called my mechanic to ask if possible blown fuse. Was told that this was controlled by computer. Needed to get to work and started again and speedometer was now working again. I now have a gps system that shows my speed because i cannot go 30 miles before my speedometer ether goes to zero or now indicates that i'm going 120 mph. I have a 2005 chevy silverado and was told that there was no recall for this problem but from what i have found on the web it seems to be a major problem.

In the 2nd year i owned my truck it noticed that when the outside temp got below 50 degrees f that my speedometer would stop working. When it warmed up 10-15 degrees it would start working again. After about a year of this it just became completely unreliable all the time regardless of temp. Now it just sits between 50-120 mph whether you are moving are not moving. This last year the gas gauge also became completely unreliable. I've heard chevy sent out letters saying that if your vehicle has less than 7 yrs or less than 70,000 they would fix it free, mine has over a hundred but i never got a letter and still live at same address. I've heard there is a class action suit but haven't seen it. I would take my truck to the chevy dealership but this would cost me a diagnostic fee of $110 and they still would fix it free, they would charge me $600. This is a safety issue. A driver must know the speed of their vehicle and they must know how much fuel is in the vehicle.

The speedometer in my 2005 chevrolet silverado quit working, or will register inaccurate speeds. My truck only has 54000 miles on it and i know that they are "extending" the coverage on the 03-04 models but not the 2005's.this failure could easily cause speeding tickets or worse, accidents. Gm is fully aware of this problem and they need to correct it. I am trying to get mine fixed through gm but they will likely only pay a percentage of the very expensive repair.

2005 chevrolet k1500 pickup speedometer reads between 90-120mph when moving even at slow speeds.at a stop it reads 80mph.67,000 miles while looking online it looks like there are many other 2003-2005 chevrolet owner with this same safety issue and no recall has been made.

Speedometer failure. At around 55k, my speedometer failed. Before it completely failed, the needle looked like it was struggling to keep up with speed, then it completely failed. When i noticed the failure, i looked down and it said i was going 120mph, which i was not.i've called the original dealership where i purchased the vehicle, they said the 03's and 04's were recalled, but the 05's weren't. I was also told that the 05 suburban was under recall? and that mine should be too because of the same cluster panel. I've heard nothing yet on a recall, and i don't want to be ticketed because i don't know how fast i am going.

Speedometer stopped working on my 2005 chevy silverado.

My vehicle is 2005 chevy silverado 1500 purchased in 2007 with mileage of approximately 47,000 miles at the time of purchase. Upon driving thevehicle for three months, my speedometer started sticking intermittently, but would reset. Since, my speedometer sticks on a daily basis, sometimes all day. The only remedy has been to turn my vehicle off and back on, where as my speedometer goes down at five mile per hour increments until back at zero. In the last three weeks, my tachometer has also malfunctioned and does not read at times, therefore making it impossible to know how fast i am going nor how high my engine is idling or increasing/decreasing in speed. There is no apparent event leading up to the failure and my conclusion is that the instrument cluster is defective in its entirety. In march of this year i was traveling in oklahoma during a sudden snow storm in which traffic was traveling at an estimated 20-30 miles per hour. I accelerated to an unknown speed, however not excessively. I lost control and my vehicle slide across two lanes of traffic opposite the lane i was in and i slide into a ditch in which my bottom air dam was torn off. I was able to repair the damage however i only accelerated because i thought i was traveling at ten miles per hour. When my vehicle came to a rest in the ditch, my speedometer was still at ten miles per hour. A state trooper did assist me by getting a tow truck, however no report was filed by me. I believe that if i had know how fast i was going, this may not have happened. It is inconclusive, however i do believe the malfunction is a safety concern. I have priced the replacement, which is the only remedy, at or about $450-700 and this is not an isolated malfunction. I have researched and found that there are many, many cases of this very defect in the same model truck from the same manufacturer and believe that it should be a recall, not a "special provision" du to the manufacturers knowing since 2003 about this particular defect.

While traveling at a speed of 60mph the speedometer would increase to around 100mph.after coming to a complete stop the speedometer still registered 35mph.i was able to reset the speedometer by cycling the key on and off 5 times.i've had the same issue at least 3 times now. This should be a recall issue before someone gets hurt or killed, not to mention all the speeding tickets being issued for this defect.

Speedometersticks and i have to kill and start my truck over and over so it will go back to zero.

Vehicle's gauges were not accurate. The speedometer would be working fine then it would gradually go to 0 when i was driving. Rpm would be at 6 and then gas gauge would quit working. Cluster had to be replaced. Chevrolet manufacturer gave me a discount of $75 to replace. This item should be classified as a recall as it was a matter to safety and there were other chevrolet vehicles that had the same problem at dealership.

Speedometer not working properly. Does not read accurate speed. When needle starts to rise, the motion is not constant. The needle instead "ticks" up upon acceleration.

The speedometer on my 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500 z71 with the 5.3 liter v8 stopped working at about 93k.the speedometer in now stuck at 120mph and does not give me a correct reading.

Oil gage reads 0, speedometer sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.

2005 chevy silverado speedometer stopped working. I was driving and the speedometer showed 20mph less than actual speed. When i stopped it showed 120mph. Gm had recall for this for 2004 and some 2005 models, gm says my vin number is not covered.

Instrument cluster on 2005 chevy silveradofailed estimated cost to repair 650 chevy intentionally installed defective motors on the instrument cluster that had been recalled on the 2003 silverado causing the speedometer, gas gauge, tach, to stop workingmaking an unsafe situation as you cant tell your speed or how much fuel you have in your tank potentially leaving you stranded on bad roads out of gas or taking a corner faster than the posted speed because of not knowing how fast you are driving. Chevy knows this instrument cluster is defective and refuses to repair it. Just like toyota.

2005 chevy silverado truck with 79,000 miles started experiencing problems with the speedometer jumping and sticking.we brought it to the dealership and was told $538 to fix it.however, after searching the internet to fix myself, i discovered that many people have experienced the same problem and there is a lawsuit pending because of this problem.

2005 chevy silverado 1500. Bought brand new at the end of march 2005. Speedometer reads incorrectly. Sometimes reads 120, sometimes reads 90, etc.etc.etc. My truck has just over 72,000 miles on it and is less than 7 years old, but misses the vin recall by 9570. This speedometer problem seems to be a popular complaint from what i see on the internet. Shouldn't this recall be extended to higher vin numbers with the same exact problem???

The evaporated canister went bad. The mechanic said normally this should never go bad. 1 week later the speedometer fails. The cost to repair the canister was 290.00.

Speedometer failed, locked on 60 mph will not move, caused receive speeding ticket 78 in 65 zone from police. Also the company i work for has a 2005 like this one,the speedometer failed last week in that truck. This should be a recall. If i had been driving in the mountains, this could have caused a crash. Had to pay to replace instrument cluster.50,400 miles.

At 57,055 my 2005 chevy silverado speedometer quit working and since i had received a letter about a class action suit i referred to this letter however it only covered the 2003 and 2004 models. I feel that the speedometer is an essential part in the safety of a vehicle and therefore am paying my $200 deductible to have the speedometer fixed under my extended warranty plan, but i also feel that gm is aware of that this problem extends beyond the 2004 models and is failing in their customer service by not extending the warranty to cover all affected vehicles.

Truck used for travel to and from work. Speedometer worked fine until about 54,000 miles then worked intermittently. Speedometer gave out about 63,000 miles and is stuck at 84 miles per hour, even when parked. Took vehicle to dealership and they indicated it would cost approx. $400-$550 to fix. I have owned 2 chevy trucks prior to this one. I once had to replace the speedometer cable on my 1979 chevyafter it went out after normal wear and tear of 15 years. I know that they don't make them like they used too, but the speedometer out at 63,000 miles, with routine maintenance. I am sad to say i am very disappointed with the quality of my chevy truck.

Dt*: the contact stated in the early morning of 8/19/2006, police and witness reports suggested the vehicle veered off the right lane onto the breakdown lane, and then swerved across and off the left side of the road, flipped upside down, impacting a tree on the right side of the vehicle. The road was clear and dry. A witness stopped to render assistance, ran to the vehicle, viewed the situation and returned to another vehicle to call in the emergency. The witness felt and heard two explosions and was unable to get within 10 feet of the wreck due to the extreme heat of the fire. The driver was wearing a seatbelt when death occurred due to the fire. Police and fire department reports were taken.photos were taken at the impound lot by the contact.

Ignition switch is getting harder and harder to get the key to turn.

No prior warnings that anything was wrong with the truck, truck suddenly lost power and died. Transported to dealership was determined mouse nest under ubec, wires chewed and full of mouse urine which caused a short. Box that contains this part is very accessible to rodents. Fortunately, this happened in the driveway, on the road i would have had no steering or brakes, and possible fire.

1) just happened. 2) the resister in the blower motor circuit shorts out. Which causes the wiring harness to burn up melting the plastic at the connector to the resister and the black wire leading to the resister.3) i had to replace the resister to the circuit and splice in a new wiring harness for the resister.

Smoke filled cab , sparks and flames from under passenger dash.

Chevy 05 silverado speedometer quit working. Apparently this is not uncommon with this truck and needs to be repaired by gmc. I am not good at judging speed and will be prone to being ticketed.

I went to start my truck in morning to get to work and this loud ticking noise from under the hood, i shut engine off panicking and opened the hood.went back and started truck again and looked around, i didn't see anything but heard it.checked oil since it sounded like the lifters but had plenty of oil.stopped on way to work and got some slick50 supercharge engine treatment.at breaktime checked oil again and added the slick50, started engine and had lifter noise again but quieted down within 30 secs.at the end of my work day started it up and again lifter noise but quieted down again within 30 sec.broken exhaust manifold bolts were found.

Exhaust manifold bolts breaking off. One next to a plastic sensor which melted. ( cant that cause a fire )?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yg6wlbnzgiseriously this needs to be addressed.thanks!

Cracked cylinder head and engine. This allows antifreeze coolant to mix in with the oil in the engine and goes through the exhaust, this also gums up the oil parts in the engine and requires new cylinder heads to be installed or engine replaced. I just recently was made aware that the general motors is aware of this problem with there engines. And also was made aware that the general motors has since fixed this problem after 2007, because this is not a problem that could cause death it is not listed as a recall. This problem is not made aware to the consumer but is published in technical service bulletins. This is known problem by general motors.it is going to cost between $2500 to $5000 to repair.

Takata recall: reduced engine power come on and truck will only run at 20-40 mi/hr,this is 3th time it happened.took twice to dealer charge 6 to $800.00 never fix. Well i have been noticing a loss of coolant have added dye to coolant to detect leak nothing was found. This has been going on for months now adding coolant i have performed 2 oil changes since noticing issue. I just changed my oil today and noticed alot of gunk(first time ever) i knew about castech head issue removed my valve covers and found what was almost like caramel orange in color. Checked for casting mark and the heads are indeed castech. This is a known issuewhat are my course of actions to take?

My 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500 suddenly would not start. I took it to the dealer. The starter and the relay were bad.it cost me over $700.my vehicle only had 53,000 miles on it.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. When the vehicle was started, the heater fan activated and an odor of burnt plastic emerged from the vents. The vehicle was shut off and then restarted. The vehicle was driven to the contact's house. The vehicle was not diagnosed by a dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 152,000.

Exhaust manifold bolts coming off heads are falling off pause an exhaust leak and giving me headaches. From the looks of it has been off for quite some time i'm just now noticing it

I have a broken exhaust manifold bolt.it is a known problem and is impacting my smog certification and safety.

Truck has an exhaust leak at manifolds.4 bolts have broken off of the manifold.my mechanic said this is very common with this truck and could cost up to and over $1,000.00 to fix.check engine light is on so unless i fix it i can't go to state inspection.also the brake lines are corroded and also need to be replaced.these are all defects not maintenance issues.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yg6wlbnzgi it explains the problem better.

Like so many others, i started to hear a ticking at startup and sometime an exhaust smell in the cab. I found 2 exhaust manifold bolts broken on each side. It can get bad enough to open a window at times. Dealer said it's a common problem. There should be a recall on a emissions and safety issue. I take very good care of my truck and this should not happen. I see it has been a problem since 1999.what can we do to get reimbursed for the cost of repair? if i have an independent repair would gm ever cover it or does it have to be done by a high cost dealership? they got vw for emissions what about gm?

- - the contact has a 2005 chevrolet silverado.the consumer experienced difficulty in steering and, gettinginto gear once it was at a complete stop.these symptoms began after the vehicle's odometer reached 5000 miles. The contact purchased the vehicle in 7/2005 and is the original owner.the contact has taken the vehicle to 3 separate dealerships in regards to these issues.after test driving the vehicle the mechanic agreed that there were failures with the transmission and steering that were noticeable while driving the vehicle.however, once they ran diagnostic tests thereport showed that no errors existed.

Exhaust manifold bolts breaking off leaving studs in the headsthis is very common problem. Gm not standing behind it. Heats up the engine compartment and releases carbon monoxide into the driver. Potentially a safety hazard. It also affects the o2 sensor and the catalytic converter. Some statesyou cannot pass emissions because of this tragedy. Please check all vehicles from 1999-2008 for this safety issue.

The vehicle was taken to a dealer who diagnosed it and advised the contact that both heads were fractured in the valves. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 67,000.

Exhaust manifold bolts breaking off in to the headthis is causing exhaust leaks in the engine compartment, noise, carbon monoxide in the engine and cabareas, added heat in the engine compartment, and will not meet the emission standards of some states.very expensive to repair and gm is not standing behind this issue in the truck with v-8 engines years 1999-2008. Almost all have this issue. Safety hazard. Please look at this. Also, causing problems with the catalytic converter and o2 sensor. Make them step up to the plate.

Vehicle burns oil. Goes through about a quart every 2,000 miles. Also sometimes when the vehicle is started it blows a lot of blue smoke out of the exhaust pipes.

Thermostat defective and replaced at 5-6,000 miles.waterpump went at 40,000 miles.parts were replaced by dealer. Water pump replaced by my mechanic at my cost. 40,000 miles seems like a low amount for a waterpump.

Lifter valve defect resulting in $3700 engine repair.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500.when the vehicle was started in cold temperatures, the vehicle would not warm up.the antifreeze was low and refilled by the contact, but the failure continued.the dealer stated that the antifreeze was leaking due to a cracked head gasket.the repair cost was estimated at $4,200.the manufacturer could not assist with repairs.although there was an extended warranty on the vehicle, she was unable to have repairs performed under warranty because the company was under liquidation.the warranty company also stated that they would not cover the repairs since the failures were recurring issues.no repairs have been performed.the failure and current mileages were less than 90,000. Continuing problem with loss of acceleration/power but only when it is not raining or when the humidity is below 95%. This results in poor fuel economy. I also witnessed the evap purge solenoid making unusual/loud knocking sounds. Been to dealer 6 times for this performance issue. The only code found was for defective evap canister. It ran better but did not fix it. With my scanner, it takes almost a week to finish system testing on the evap circuit where it only takes one warm-up and cool-down to finish testing on all the other circuits. My suspicion is that the evap purge solenoid needs to be replaced. I'm tired of paying $100 diagnostic fees to be told "there's nothing wrong with the truck". I know better since i've driven and worked on my own trucks for more than 20 years now.

Evap emission failure.

Speedometer not working properly. Does not read accurate speed. When needle starts to rise, the motion is not constant. The needle instead "ticks" up upon acceleration.

Chevy silverado and chevy suburban with same problem. Check engine light comes on. This could either mean to check engine or that the gas cap is loose. Engine was checked and so was gas cap. Nothing wrong. Servicer turned off the check engine light. Next time truck was started up the light came on again.

2005 chevy silverado 1500 pick-up. Odometer failure. Dealer wants $475.00.warranty per dealer not available as mileage too high.

Strange smell in a/c unit when turned on.fan blower wasn't blowing high enough, then eventually stopped working. Tookvehicle to mechanic. Stated the fan and resister had burned up.there was a recall on manual a/c but not on auto.the same problem happened in my auto a/c as happened in manual a/c why is my vehicle not covered under the recall when it is the same problem.

Defective cd players. Will not eject cd and this is a problem for almost all cd players in the 03-06 models. I personally know 4 people with this problem, and there are thousands of reports in forums on the internet.

My 2005 general motors product (purchased new) now has 15,600 miles on the odometer, and has had (5) five front end alignments. Each time the toe/camber/and caster , have changed.

Tail light housing leaks water into tail light area which causes tail and brake light bulb bases to corrode , lose contact and fail to operate. I replace tail lamps every 3 to 6 months.instrument panel failed at 65000 miles and despite extended warranty gm would not repair. I was never contacted about gm settlement concerning this factory defect.

Brake lights will not come on when brake is applied all bulbs and fuses are checked to be ok recall on similar chevy trucks near crash twice when the person could not tell i was stopping.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500.when the contact lightly releases the brake pedal, the brake lights automatically dim.the failure was noticed while driving 10 mph.the failure occurs even though his foot is still on the brake pedal.he stated that a vehicle driving behind him will not realize that he is attempting to stop the vehicle; therefore, it could cause a rear end crash with another vehicle.the vehicle was taken to the dealer a total of five times and they acknowledged the failure, but could not repair it because it is an unadjustable shift.the contact believes that if the rear brake lights are not working, it could increase the risk of an crash with the vehicles in the rear.the failure mileage was 24,000 and current mileage was 29,500.update 09/10/08 *cwupdated 09/15/08.

There is a safety recall on the shift lever indicator but my truck was not included and i have that exact sam issue. I cannot tell what gear my truck is in why isnt my vehicle included? my vehicle was stationary and gradually started to fade at start up.

Vechicle gear shift meconisim doesn't light up too show gear shift.

No brake lamp illuminates when the brake pedal is depressed, all other lights work.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle started to leak fuel and the brake line would leak causing the brakes to lose power whenever the brake pedal was depressed. The contact also stated that the fuel tank strap fractured due to rust causing the fuel tank to detach from the vehicle. The contact stated that the rear leaf spring fractured due to rust as well. The contact also stated that the entire sub-frame of the vehicle was rusted causing pieces of metal to fall off from the frame while driving. The brake warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the brake lines, fuel lines, the rear leaf shackle, and the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 58,000.

I have 2005 chevy 1500 ext cab and when i go to fill the gas the pump just stops on me. I tried holding it half way everything it just keeps stopping. I have heard of others with this problem with the same truck so i just wanted to let you know.

I had to replace the cannistor evaporation solenoid because of repeated check engine sensor. This cost me $330.the mechanic told me this is a retrofit part that chevy has come up with which tells me that chevy is fully aware of this very common problem with this truck.i know of 4 other people who have the same truck and the same problem.i want chevy to reimburse me for this repair.

4/19/08 at 4:30 a.m. Est.i was awakened by a loud explosion and went outside to find my 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500 completely engulfed in flames.

The contact owns a 2005 silverado 1500. The contact stated that when the fuel gauge displayed a quarter of a tank of fuel, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was a certified mechanic who discovered that the fuel tank was empty and used a fuel cleaner treatment. However, the failure recurred. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

The rear brake line burst while driving in a parking lot resulting in a loss of braking. The mechanic showed me where it broke and it appeared to be due to corrosion of the line. It also looked like the fuel linewas showing similar corrosion.

2005 chevy silverado 1500 experiencing erratic fuel gauge readings.vehicle has approx. 25k miles and has been acting erratically for about 2 weeks.fuel gauge, fuel light, and text display seem to be in sync, so it may be that the problem is originating from the tank or the computer.either way, it's nearly impossible to tell how much fuel i have at any given time...even after a fill-up.in fact, i just filled up yesterday and the gauge showed empty with the fuel light on by the time i got home.once in the driveway, the gauge rose to half-full.this is a serious problem.living in alaska, knowing the vehicle's fuel status is critical, especially in winter when the safety of a warm vehicle may be the only protection from the elements.

I have a 2005 chevy silverado with 38,000 miles on it. The solenoid evap vent went an it cost me171.00 dollars to replace. Turns out that they modified this part because the enginelight came on. I did a search on the internet an it turns out that this is a common problem with these trucks. I think chevy should replace this for free.

Evap emission failure.

The evaporated canister went bad. The mechanic said normally this should never go bad. 1 week later the speedometer fails. The cost to repair the canister was 290.00.

The brake lines ,fuel lines and the frame crossmembers are all severely rusted. It just is a matter of time before i loose my brakes, go up in flames or drop my gas tank onto the highway. The body on this truck is not too bad. It has 92,000 miles on it, and it is cleaned quite often. The undercarriage is rusted very badly.i expected more from something that costs so much. Cant afford a new one and if i could it wouldn't be a gm. Have always owned gm in the past.

The rear gas tank strap has rusted through and broke free while driving down the highway causing risk of dragging which may result in fire/explosion.this caused the gas tank to hang down almost making contact with the highway.the broken strap is also banging against the lowered tank causing risk of puncture.

I have a 2005 chevy silverado crew cab 4 door with 48000 milesand i have noticed the transmission hesitating on take off .i have a keyless entry and sometimes my rear doors will not unlock with remote or door switches an i have to manually un lock them .i also notices last night in traffic with a/c off the temp got above 210 deg. The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked when he noticed that the parking brake cable was wearing a hole into the fuel tank. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and the contact was informed that the failure was due to normal wear and tear. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 69,000. Updated 10/27/11 updated 3/30/12

This vehicle is 4wd. While traveling at highway speed, the electric shift transfer case shifted into neutral without warning.

Heard a noise from front of vehicle followed by an abs warning indication, drove to nearest dealer. Failure of left front hub bearing, replaced part number 15863441.

$ wheel drive autotrac system malfunctioned . Bounces between 2 wheel and 4 wheel drive. This happened on a city street. It happened twice before 2013 and 2015 .had dealer diagnose and fix problem. Did not fix.there arehundreds of people on the internet with the same problem all looking for help and most cannot get problem resolved by g.m.

There is a bad seal where the right front axle connects to the shaft from the transfer case. This is a common part that happens to large number of vehicles.

I was driving my 2005 chevrolet silverado on the highway with the cruise control set at 65.as i approached a stretch with a lower speed limit i depressed the set/decrease button four times to slow down.the engine rpm began to decrease on the first three pushes but on the fourth push the engine immediately went to full throttle.i quickly pressed on the brake peddle with disengaged the cruise control.i drive this stretch of road almost daily and use the same routine.this is the first time this has happened.i tried to recreate the problem but the next time it worked as it should.

I purchased this vehicle new.a few days after using the four wheel drive i received a "service 4wd" message.returned the vehicle to the dealer.dealer said they needed to update the flash.a few weeks later same warning.returned it to the dealer and they performed the same action.shortly thereafter the vehicle began to periodically self-engage into 4wd low when stopped (traffic signal or stop and go traffic).returned the vehicle to the dealership a total of 9 times in the first 72,000 miles (extended warranty).shortly after the warranty expired, the 4wd began malfunctioning again self engaging then not functioning at all.returned to dealership and they said it would cost $125 for them to look at the vehicle but since this was a recurring problem they would take care of it for free.dealer updated the flash again and said the problem was fixed.less than 1 week later at a 2-way stop the problem returned.when i was stopped the vehicle put itself into 4wd low without me knowing.as i entered the intersection i realized the problem and pressed the accelerator to the floor to avoid getting hit by cross traffic.i managed to get the vehicle off the road; however, when i attempted to disengage the 4wd i was unable.after returning home in 4wd low i parked the truck and did some research.turns out this was a pretty common problem and chevy still doesn't have a solution.when i started the vehicle so i could take it to the dealership it somehow put the transfercase in neutral and gave me a "service 4wd" message which prevented me from selecting any drivetrain setting.after turning the vehicle off and waiting 15 minutes i started the vehicle while holding the 2h selector.it engaged into 2h and at that point i figured i had enough.i disconnected the wire harness from the transfer case actuator. I have been driving around without 4wd ever since.

I am filing this complaint for my father. He have a 2005 chevy silverado. My father was driving straight down a street at about 35 mph when the drivers side rear axle and tire came off the vehicle. The result was body damage to the vehicle. Luckily no bodily injury or proper damageoccurred other than that done on my father vehicle. As it turns out the retainer button on the end of the axle shaft was broken off allowing the axle to come out of the axle housing. A police report was filed and an insurance claim was made. The vehicle has apprx. 90,000 miles and was purchased from a dealer 1450 miles prior to the accident. (approximately 2 months after the purchase) the vehicle is currently being repaired by the dealer desantis chevy in brockton ma. They will not cover the cost of the damage. Purchased a 2005 silverado.noticed from the beginning that it drove odd at times. . spoke with a mechanic and he told us that when it broke in it would drive smoother. It was just shifting hard.it seemed like it was in 4wd at times.this went on for some time.we live out a ways and put alot of miles on a vehicle.problem continued to get worse.took it in to the garage at 17k mechanic said he couldn't find anything.kept ignoring the problem.twice charging us for things not covered under warranty like alignment and rotation.we took the truck in 5 times for the same problem.close to the end of warranty the mechanic told us if we had any more problems they would note them so the warranty would cover them.not the case. During this time i was taking my daughters friend home and was in a really tough spot against the side of a very big hill and realized i had no 4wd.we came sliding down.fortunately no injury.on and off again 4wd until about 1mo later no 4wd at all.the truck was taken back to the garage when the service 4wd light was on and the mechanic turned it off and told us it was unrelated to the problem we were having.this was just weeks before the 4wd went altogether. During this time we contacted the garage and gm. No help for the problem.one left it up to the other to fix the problem.in the meantime we are catching rides because a truck without 4wd is useless to us here in the wintertime.we discovered from asking others that this may be a common problem in these trucks. Seems like the same.4wd engages itself for awhile and then stops working altogether. There are times when losing 4wdunexpectedly,where we live, put you in a life threatening situation.

My wife's 1999 chevrolet silverado 1500 extended cab pick-up truck was hit forcefully from behind, driving her vehicle into the vehicle in front of her. She had her seatbelt on, but she still struck the steering wheel with her face - causing a broken nose and severe bruising. It appears the seat frame bent enough to allow her move forward. The seat had to be replaced during the repair process. She is not a heavy person (5 ft 9 in tall and 125 lbs). I contend that having the seatbelt anchored to seat frame provides insufficient structural support.

Brake lines ruptured. Brake pedal went to floor.

When slowing down and coming to a stop the abs brakes kick in making it take longer than normal to stop.it started happening a couple of weeks ago pulling into my driveway and it is getting worse.it happens at slow or as i am slowing down to come to a stop, then the abs kicks in and increases the stopping distance. That normal stopping distance you think you have under normal conditions is not there.this problem is in perfectly dry conditions.it is not weather related at all.i have had to stand on the brakes to stop.it's been somewhat intermittent but it almost caused me to get into an accident today.turning while stopping usually causes the issue to happen the most, that's what happened today.coming to a straight stop doesn't always cause the issue.apparently there was this same issue with the 1999 - 2002 chevy trucks and they were recalled.apparently chevy has not fixed the issue so we are seeing it again, i wonder how many people have to get into accidents or die before something is done about this issue.is there a death toll we need to hit?i've googled this issue and a lot of people are having this problem. I suspect that because few have been killed as this is happening at lower speeds only insurance issues have arisen and the consumers wind up paying for those in the end.one would hate to dip into chevy's year end bonus money.

I was going down my driveway, pulling a 16 ft stock trailer and the brake line to the rear passenger side wheel ruptured. I was able to stop, but could not have if i'd been at highway speed. The electric brakes on the trailer helped. Took to chevy service and all brake lines were corroded and eaten through. Pistons corroded and stuck on both front calipers. All lines were replaced along with the calipers. Total cost was $1647.94 parts were $484, the rest was labor. Truck had to be towed to dealer. They wanted to replace rear pads and drums because they were exposed to brake fluid, but we can't afford that right now.

My family and i were driving home pulling our travel trailer from a weekend of camping. There was approximately 2 car lengths between my self and the vehicle in front of us.both lanes of vehicles came to a quick stop. I applied the brakes the abs started to kick in, i let of the brakes and reapplied again the abs kicked in and the peddle went to the floor. I was able to hop the curb with the truck and trail to avoid hitting the cars in front of me. It took 5 or more vehicle lengths to get completely stopped. I was able to slowly drive the 6 or so miles home using the trailer brakes only. Once the trailer was unhooked i was able to pull the truck in to my drive way to work on it. The brakes would hold the truck, the peddle was to the floor but i'm doubtful they would stop it at any speed.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. The contact stated that the brake lines were rusted and corroded. The contact replaced the brake lines, but the failure recurred. In addition, while driving approximately 50 mph, the brake lines fractured. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 112,000.

I went to move this truck in my driveway, when i put it in reverse, the brake pedal went to the floor, nearly hitting my car which was behind me. I got out and opened the hood and noticed that the brake fluid reservoir was very low, and that brake fluid had squirted all over the front of the engine and was also leaking from a second place just under the master cylinder along the frame. The brake lines were wet and are very rusty, to the point of scaling. Now, i can't use my truck, which i very much needed on 09/14/2013. This is very disgusting!

I was coming home on a state highway traveling 45 mph i turned onto my home street and i had no brakes. Luckily i was 200 feet from my driveway and i coasted and turned into my driveway and was able to stop. I had it towed to a gm dealer and found out all mybrake lines had rusted out.the mechanic could not get the bleeder screws off the calliphers because the screws were also rusted out. Wealways undercoat our vehicles when we buy them brand new so nothing would rust out under there.in 2005 we were told by our dealer that if we undercoat we would lose our warranty. The mechanic also told us that the new brake lines are all poly coated now, so they won't rust out anymore. Why weren't they poly coated to begin with . The expense was 1200.00 to replace the brake lines plus the towing fee. The mechanic told us he seen this in 2002,2003,2004,2005 and 2006 trucks.2007 hasn't come in yet.

My trucks brakes catastrophically failed for the third time two weeks ago.luckily these failures happened in a driveway or low speed with no accident results.the latest brake failure happened without warning, just a week after hauling my loaded horse trailer through the mountains.we could have been killed or killed someone if this brake failure happened a week earlier.while backing up, about 6 inches from hitching the trailer, the brake pedal went to the floor and brake fluid poured out.the same thing happened aug. 2014.i have spent thousands of dollars in the past fixing issues with the abs sensors, brake lines, et al.this truck just turned 100,000 miles.this should not happen, ever!i live in the northeast, lots of salted roads but these parts must be junk.i have never had another vehicle with problems like this.this is a major safety issue and gm has to remedy this problem asap.it has been happening for a long time and they are dragging their feet in recalling the '05 and newer trucks.

While driving approx 50mph on2-lane highway a brake line burst under hard braking (vehicle in front of me suddenly slowed to make a turn off the highway) due to rust.pedal went all the way to the floor and i lost significant braking power.this resulted in a minor accident where i dented the bumper of the truck that was turning and significantly bent the right end of my front bumper.was able to continue the trip the last 50 miles to my destination but braking distances were considerably longer than normal.took it to a local mechanic who said all the brake lines were rusted and had to be replaced.

Brake line broke in my driveway as i was putting the truck in gear. There is no rust on truck except brake lines.

Rusted brake line let go and had to use emergency brake to stop to stop. Pedal went completly to floor ,tried to pump no brakes. Replaced all brake lines.

Brake lines failed due to corrosion.

Luckily my wife was in her parking lot at work. She applied the brakes and the pedal headed for the floor. The line to the rear brakes rusted through mid point between the front and back. This is an 8 year old, well maintained truck!inferior material failure?

As i approached an intersection to make a left-hand turn, i stepped on my trucks brake pedal. I experienced a complete loss of braking power, with the trucks brake pedal going straight to the floor, after an instant of a firm, solid pedal. Pumped the pedal to try to regain brake operation to no avail.no hydraulic pressure was present. No warning lights or other indications of brake system failure occurred.truck was driven home a very short distance using e-brake. Brake fluid was seen dripping from the rear axle area in large amounts. Truck was towed to my local garage which found a burst steel brake line at the junction with the rear hydraulic flex hose. Other brake lines were heavily rusted. Rest of the undercarriage was not similarly rust like the brake lines. The garage stated this was not the first silverado they saw with this problem. All steel lines were replaced with stainless steel lines, and as a precaution we replaced all brake hoses as well. The bleeder screws on the front disk brake calipers, and on the rear wheel cylinders were also found heavily rusted and frozen, so those components were replaced as well. The shop stated this issue of severe corrosion of brake lines and bleeders is very common on this generation of silveradoā€™s . They have repaired quite a few like mine after similar brake failures. If you research the issue on-line, there certainly is a problem with these trucks. In my 45 years as a mechanic and practicing mechanical engineer, i have never seen brake system components so severely corroded as the ones removed from my truck. I was lucky i wasnā€™t towing anything, or was at highway speed when the failure occurred. The next owner may not be that lucky if it happens to them.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. While driving at 35 mph, the brake pedal was depressed to the floor in order to bring the vehicle to a complete stop. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the brake lines were corroded and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 92,000.

Rusting brake lines in hard to reach areas of the vehicle that normal washing doesn't clean. I was slowing down for traffic getting of the highway when my brake pedal went to the floor. I used the e-brake to get home and when i arrived home i crawled underneath the truck and found where the hard line goes to the flex line over the rear end it had split. I repaired that and now right next to the gas tank in split again 3 weeks later pulling into the driveway at my home.

Son was driving truck and brakes went to the floor.almost hit the car in front of him.once i was able to get the truck home, i found a leak in the brake line under the drivers side door that appears to be due to rust.

Slowing down for a stop sign and pedal went to the floor and went through the intersection could not stop. The left rear brake line went.

My wife and i were leaving home to go in to town to pick up some items with the truck. When approaching the roadway she applied the foot brake, the brake pedal went to the floor, there was no stopping. The emergency mechanical brake was used so we would not get hit. After getting out and seeing fluid drip, i opened the hood to find a cracked and rusted brake line that was leaking a large amount of brake fluid. Researching this vehicle it seems this is a common problem with this vehicle, nothing has been done about it. This truck spent many years in wisconsin before we located last fall to washington state. It seems to me that a recall needs to be done for this failure does not continue to happen. Brake failure is a very serious issue.

I was driving when the brake pedal went soft. I continued and the service brakes warning light came on. As i was less than 1 mile from home i continued carefully. When i got home i found the brake reservoir almost empty. I discovered the brake hard line to the rear brakes was corroded. This is the line that runs above the gas tank. It was corroded there and leaking fluid. Lucky i wasn't killed or stranded far from home !

Hit the brakes, line busted....no brakes.luckily nobody was hurt.very dangerous situation.

While driving on a highway at 55mph, i pressed on the brake to slow my speed as i was entering a congested area nearing a town. The pedal went to the floor. I geared it down manually with my gearshift and turned off the highway into a self-car wash. After looking under vehicle, i noticed brake fluid all around drivers side rear wheel. After further detailed inspection, the brake line that runs from the master cyl to rear of vehicle to a union mounted on frame that converts solid line to flex hose type had corroded and cracked. Truck was just inspected 6 months prior at dealer. In my 45 years of driving professionally, i have never had a brake line fail for no reason, as it was untouched and secured just as it was when it left factory. Its obvious to me and everyone i talk to that the break line is made of a lower quality steel or not as thick as ones produced in the past by gm. I have heard that thru the grapevine that a certain someone who decides faults in these cases suggested that salt put on the roads in the winter could have caused this if the trucks underside were not washed off after winter driving to remove the corrosive salt. While i would agree to that to some extent, because i am one who does take pride in my $ 32,000 vehicle, i not only power wash the underside several times a winter, but also undercoat it as well. What makes this so dangerous, is that brake fluid that leaks causes major damage to everything it comes in contact with. My fuel tank, wiring, insulation around wire, paint that peels off everything which means frame rust now. The worst and most dangerous of all is that the leaking brake fluid turns pavement made with asphalt into a oil slick on the road that is not noticed by the everyday driver. And there is no stopping whatsoever when you start to slide. I want gm to fix and install the safe and correct ones, stainless steel. Thank you

While traveling at about 5 mph, i experience a total brake failure.the petal dropped to the floor. I was unable to stop the vehicle resulting in a rear end collision with the stopped vehicle in front of me.it was determined that a brake line ruptured. I was under the impression that it was a law that vehicles of this year had a dual braking system to avoid this situation.if this vehicle does have such a system it did not function.the vehicle had to be towed from the scene since it had no brakes.

Brake lines rusted; brake line leak; truck would not brake/stop in driveway; had truck towed to repair shop to replace brake lines completely rusted.

Brake lines bursting due to faulty (cheap) material. I have owned several chevy trucks without any problems but this is the worst i have ever seen. Looks like all lines will need to be replaced. They are made from cheap material.

After i backed out of my driveway i started down the street and when i applied the brakes the brake pedal started to pulse and i had to really push hard to get the truck to slow down. Above 35 mph the brakes worked fine. This is the second time this vehicle has been for this same trouble. It happened around 20,000 miles and the dealer took care of the problem. The problem is the abs sensor. It gets dirty and either has to be cleaned or replaced. This can be very dangerous at slow speeds, under 35 mph. I was told there are no recalls. It was repaired at a chevrolet dealer.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. While driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle failed to respond when the brake pedal was depressed. The contact had to apply the emergency brake and shift into the park position in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 45,600.

Brake lines corroded thru causing acute brake failure.almost caused bad wreck.after researching the huge number of similar complaints and gms unwillingness to correct i will be sure to never purchase another gm vehicle ever.

Brake pedal goes all the way to the floor no pressure.lost all pressure during snowstorm. Lucky to pull over intodrifted snow to prevent crash. 61000 miles and well maintained. Maryland area. Upon inspection all brake supply lines are rusted and blown out. Very difficult to repair oneself. Very costly repair at dealership. This should be a sfety recall. Ridiculous!

Brakes failed. Leak from corroded brake line

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. While driving approximately 30 mph and approaching a stop light, the brakes failed and went to the floorboard. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The contact noticed that the brake lines were rusted to the point of corrosion. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.updated 10/26/17*lj

As i was leaving my home there was a complete loss of brakes in my driveway. After checking i discovered that the brake line had burst due to corrosion. I had a hard time trying to understand how there could be a complete loss as all vehicles now have a dual line master cylinder. I then remembered i had seen a oily spill and trail up the shared gravel drive several months ago. Apparently i had lost half the brake system months ago. There was no warning light or different feel to the brakes during this time. I managed to get the truck in the garage and while checking what was needed for repair i discovered that every single brake line on the vehicle needs to be replaced. I have another chevrolet pickup that i bought new in 1989 and the brake lines are in better shape than the 2005's.

Brake lines rusted and burst front and rear, pressed the pedal to shift from park to drive pedal went all the way to floor, luckily was setting in parking lot.

While traveling in traffic on the highway at less than 30 miles per hour when i went to apply my brakes the abs came on immediately shortening my safe stopping distance enough so the end result was a collision.

Rear brake line ruptured while braking for a highway exit.all the brake fluid leaked out when i attempted to pump the brakes to stop.i was able to use the emergency brake to come to a complete and safe stop.when i looked to find the problem, i found the rear brake line directly under the driver door was completely rusted and blown out.

When i applying the brakes the peddle went to the floor. Upon having it towed to cover chevrolet windber pa. 15963 i was informed that the brake lines were rotted and would need replaced.

Severely rusted brake lines throughout.line ruptured while vehicle was traveling at approximately 30 mph on a residential street. No injuries or damage but for a vehicle of this age to look like it does underneath is despicable.i've lived in new england all of my life and have owned and worked on several older vehicles than my current truck and have never seen corrosion this bad underneath.replacing all lines with stainless steel immediately.how this didn't happen sooner is difficult to believe.

I was driving down the street and went to press the brakes and the pedal went to the floor. I needed to downshift and coast to get the truck to stop. My truck is a 2005 chevy silverado 1500, ext cab, 4x4. Truck is now in shop getting fixed. $1000 to repair something that should not have failed in the first place. Stainless steel lines ($40 more for gm) would have prevented the issue. I am glad i was not in a high traffic area where other cars could have been involved.

On july 23rd i was driving on a local highway at 55 mph. When i attempted to break for a turn the peddle went all the way to the floor. I had to coast to a stop. A rusty break line blew out in the engine compartment on the drivers side. I am lucky no other vehicles were on the road with me.

The rear brake line burst while driving in a parking lot resulting in a loss of braking. The mechanic showed me where it broke and it appeared to be due to corrosion of the line. It also looked like the fuel linewas showing similar corrosion.

When coming to a stop and suddenly without warning, my brakes began pulsating rapidly, eventually stopping about 10 feet beyond where i intended to stop.fortunately there were no vehicles in front of me an none coming through the intersection.shortly afterwards, i had the vehicles brake system evaluated only to find out the root cause is the anti-lock brake sensors activating due to corrosion and rusting.i was informed that this issue has been typical with these models of vehicles for many years.in reading online posts, i seen this is a common and known issue, but the dealer does not recognize it, therefore a recall should be issued because this is a serious safety concern which could have resulted in bodily injury or death!

All brake lines rusted . Brake lines leaking fluid . Low brake fluid. Was driving on highway had pay load400 pounds.

This complaint is to document brake line failures on 3 separate occasions for my 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500.while bleeding my brakes in june of 2011, one of the rear brake lines burst and the pedal went completely to the floor.thankfully, this happened in my driveway and the burst was in a section of the line accessible for me to replace. Then, in august of 2013, my brake pedal went all the way to the floor while attempting to stop suddenly after someone pulled out in front of me.i was traveling 25 to 30 mph.with some maneuvering, i was able to avoid hitting the person but drifted well through the intersection before coming to a slow stop.thankfully no one else was there.fortunately, i could literally see my house (and my children who were waiting for me to return from work), and was able to pull into the driveway and have my truck towed to a service shop the next day.the shop replaced a section of the rear brake lines and felt the remainder of the lines were still safe.it should be noted that the break was in a different place than the first brake line failure.the third brake line failure occurred on december 5th, 2014 when my brake pedal went all the way to the floor when i attempted to come to a sudden stop when another driver came into my lane without warning.again i was traveling 25 to 30 mph and nearly ran head on into another driver after my truck drifted slowly to a stop (probably took 3 times the distance it would have normally taken to stop).at the time of the incident, my vehicle had roughly 67,100 miles on it.roughly two-thirds of the total brake line system was completely rusted and needed to be replaced.seeing the other complaints filed for chevrolet silverado?s and gmc sierra's, i sincerely hope that something is done to address this issue before someone is seriously hurt or killed by these failing brake lines.

Had just made a left turn onto my street, approximate speed about 5 mph. After the left turn was made, i proceeded about 200 feet to my driveway. Upon pulling in, i attempted to stop and the pedal went to the floor. The brakes were not hit abruptly however there was snow on the ground. Moving at 10 mph when coming to a stop, the truck did not slide but eventually stopped, without incident. After parking the truck, 20 minutes later i decided to see if it was still the same or if this was just a "fluke" (no the abs light did not come on when parking). So as i opened the drivers side door, i looked down and noticed the snow was a golden/bluish color. I looked underneath the truck and saw brake fluid dripping slowly onto the ground. The leak is coming from under the drivers side door, near where the group of brake lines is located. I checked out possible fixes online and noticed i am not the only one with this complaint. It was suggested i file this complaint, which i am glad i did so. This needs to be addressed before someone is not as lucky as i was (pulling into my driveway at a slow speed). Thank you.

Total brake failure due to a ruptured metal brake line/pipe. Failure occurred in my driveway while attempting to move the truck forward. I understand that a recall for this failure was denied for general motors trucks up to the 2003 model year but my truck is a 2005 model, and based on what i have learned, this failure continues with newer models. This recall needs to be re-opened and re-investigated by professional engineers and mechanics. I've worked on motor vehicles all my adult life, for a time as a certified new york state inspector even, and never saw a corrosion related brake failure of this nature. My truck is not a work truck. This type of brake failure can, and likely has been the result of fatal accidents. There are now well over 3.5k complaints and hundreds of accidents relating to this specific brake failure on gm trucks.

The brakes failed on my truck and i hit a parked dump trailer.upon inspection i found that the brake lines had severly rusted and failed.i was unable to stop safely and unable to pump them up.the brake line failure occured under the drivers door.

Noticed a need to top off brake reservoir due to dash warning light. Brake lines failing due to corrosion, fortunately no accident has been the result so far.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. The contact stated that the braking system was slow to respond. Also, while driving at low speeds, the abs warning lamp illuminated multiple times. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who replaced the rotors and the brake pads;however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

While coming to a stop, vehicle keeps going. Rolls about 5 feet farther than expected.seems the brakes just quit before it finally stops.abs?

I stepped on the brakes and the pedal went to the floor.i stepped on the mechanical parking brake to stop.brake fluid was on the ground..i pulled all the wheels and no brake cylinders or calipers were leaking but after tracing the oil it was from a bundled of brake lines under the door.

While slowing down at a stop light i pressed the brake pedal only to have it fall all the way to the floor.i was cruising to a stop light with crossing traffic and was completely terrified at the loss of braking power.i had the idea to put the truck into neutral and jam the emergency brake while honking my horn.the truck slowly came to a stop well within the intersection narrowly missing traffic.i looked under the truck and found brake fluid leaking from the rear near the axle.a mechanic has confirmed this was a burst brake line due to rust and that he see this brake line fail at the same spot on chevrolet/gmc trucks frequently.this vehicle has frequent car washes with undercarriage rinsing year round.

It was early in the morning ,my brother and i were backing up the truck to attach the boat for towing.he was backing up my truck while i guided him back towards the hitch of the boat.we got the boat hitch attached to the truck and i asked him if he wanted to drive .thank god he refused to drive, once i got in the truck , i applied my brakes before putting the truck in drive and noticed that the brake peddle went all the way to the ground without any resistance.i looked underneath my truck and noticed brake fluid leaking out from a rusted brake line going to the rear tire .i would hate to think of what could have happened on the highway with a boat behind me????? i have photos of the rusted brake line that broke . I also have seen some rust on the remaining brake lines now and am worried about the the condition of those lines.

Backed out of driveway brake pedal went to floor.repair shop said brake lines all rusted.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. While driving less than 5 mph, the brake pedal would unexpectedly stop working. The contact stated that the anti-lock brake system was not functioning properly. The contact had to depress the brake pedal several times to get it to work. The steering wheel would also stop functioning when the brakes experienced the failure. There were no warning indicators illuminated at the time of the failure. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or repaired. The manufacturer was called, but the contact did not speak with a live representative. The failure mileage was 220,000.

Complete and sudden brake failure while pressing on brake pedal to slow vehicle to avoid colliding with vehicle ahead-vehicle was in motion_operator pressed brake pedal-brake pedal travelled to floor and vehicle did not slowcertified mechanic diagnosed problem as burst brake line

All 5 brake lines are badly corroded, 2 were leaking. Filled the reservoir, and drove it to local shop for repair, {about 2 miles}, using what little brake i had, {pedal on the floor}, and emergency brakes. Could have been very serious and was very expensive to get fixed. Talked to local chevy dealer who told me they replace brake lines on customers cars and trucks almost every day. Gm will not do recall because problem is localized to the "salt area" of north eastern united states. But gm does state that vehicle should stop without fluid. That is not true!

Brakes got progressively "soft" on the way home, until eventually the pedal went to the floor. Made home by going slow and downshifting to decelerate without using the brakes.problem diagnosed to be the master cylinder.

Hi my name is [xxx] my email is [xxx]. I've had my 2005 chevrolet silverado ss truck with the 6.0 engine for five years. In those 5 years i have had to change the wheel hub assembly's and the front rotors 7 times. I'm pretty sick of this recurring issue i see that there was a recall on the regular silverados for my year but not on the 6.0 engine i'm not sure what gives but i need this problem to be rectified. This is a normal everyday driving vehicle to and from work nothing spectacular and there shouldn't be that much wear and tear on those parts in that little bit of time i've owned tons of other vehicles for that amount of time and longer and i've never had to change that part once i've had to change it 7 times on this vehicle i really love my vehicle and don't want to sell it so i'm trying to figure out if there is a permanent fix for it or a recall.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I bought the truck new in 2005, it has been a piece of junk from the start, i have had multiple problems with this truck, replaced both front rotors & hubs, the dealership said this was normal but i think that it is just normal for a junky chevrolet, the main power supply plug on the heater motor melted off and would no longer work, front speakers quite working, front brake lines rusted away and the reservoir was dry and the brake light on the dash never came on for a warning, had to replace all brake lines on the front end of the vehicle, brakes are very weak and most of the time the pedal is very soft and goes to the floor and scares me to death, you don't think that the truck is going to stop, this brake issue is a very big problem !!!, several people that i know have the same model truck have the save exact issues, i will never in my life time buy another chevrolet product as long as i live and i spread this info with anyone who might even think of buying a chevrolet, don't do it, they are junk !!!!!!!!!!!!

Brake pedal went all the way to the floor when applied.the pickup has about 62000 miles on it is well maintained.located in virginia and during the winter i take the pickup to the carwash several time purposely to have the undercarriage washed.when my mechanic checked it out his response was "i have never seen anything like this.the brake and fuel lines are paper thin from rust.i am fortunate in no one was hurt when this happened as i was traveling down the a country road about 45 miles per hour.

This morning on the way to work i approached a t intersection traffic light. The light changed from green to yellow as i approached it.i pressed and the brakes and the pedal went straight to the floor, "no brakes". The traffic light turned red and i had to try to maneuver through the corner at to much speed, almost rolling the truck.once i slowed to a stop.i inspected the truck, and sure enough there is a puddle under the driverside door where all the rusted brake lines run along the outside of the frame rail.this is unacceptable for gm to not honor their vehicles or respect the buyers of those vehicles enough to put stainless steel brake lines on them.how does gm expect to get people to buy gm products when we are killed in a traffic accident because of rusted, ruptured brake lines.i expect the local stealership to quote me several thousand dollars to fix the manufacturers error.i tell you one thing i have praised gm about my truck, but if this doesnt get recalled or fixed i wont buy another gm product again.

I just got home after driving 100 miles on the parkway, and i was just getting ready to pick up my fianc kids from school when i started my truck and applied the service brake to shift into drive and then the brake pedal went to the floor. I got out of the truck and saw brake fluid leaking behind the drivers side wheel. I crawled under to take a look and the leak appeared to be where the plastic bracket was holding the brake lines to the frame. The brake lines appear to be severely rusted and brittle and just by touching them the rust flakes off. Thank god this happened at home and no one got hurt or killed. I live on a mountain and the road down it is a 25% incline. Something needs to bedone about this before something fatal or serious happens. If you have a brake problem similar to this please file a complaint so this gets recalled. I don't understand why so many people complained about this same problem and nothing is being done. Is gm this powerful and will not fess up to this even though this could be fatal?? please join me and speak up...

While at a stop with foot on brakes, the pedal suddenly depressed all the way to the floor.a check revealed that the rigid brake line from the ehcu to the drivers side front wheel had failed due to corrosion.

This is 3rd time my brakes blow a line in 2 years and the first 2 times one time i was holding my brakes while backing up a hill on my property with a trailer attached, the second coming to a stop sign and this last time going down a steep hill coming to an intersection. I just changed the line that was broken the first two times. I had filed a complaint with you last year but i cannot find the info. This time i changed all of the lines as it scared me bad this time as i live in the mountains and did not wish to push my luck any further. Chevrolet wanted over $1,200 to change them out using the same materials that failed in the first place.i had them changed at napa for $680 using copper/nickel which is a superior product. Gm's excuse for the lines rusting out was the customer did not wash the lines off when salt got on them. You cannot get to most of the lines to wash them off. The amount of brake line failures is overwhelming and to say the least dangerous as hell. I am sending some photos of some of the lines and will mail pieces of the line to you if it will do any good.please let me know if i should send the pieces of line. Thanks [xxx] ps: it seems that i can only send one photo please let me know how to send more...('parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).')

Put my foot on brake to put vehicle in gear and pedal went straight to floor. The brake line burst. If i got out of the driveway and headed down the hill to the stop sign and the brakes failed, i would find myself in oncoming traffic doing 40mph+ during rush hour. There was no warning, and no brakes at all!!! this vehicle only has 51,000 miles and is always garaged, washed and very well maintained. I have no doubt that if the brakes failed on the road instead of in the driveway, i would have been involved in a very serious accident. You need to do something before multiple deaths and/or injuries. At least a letter to owners to inspect the brake lines.

When brakes are applied while driving and the anti-lock brake feature engages because of slick conditions, the brakes lock up and remain that way even when the brake pedal is released.this causes the truck to go into a slide.it happens at all speeds but only when the abs is engaging.

On 1/8/2015 at about 5mph my brakes failed. I took my truck to a car mechanic and he replaced the brake lines .i had the brake pad and rotor, drums and shoes replaced. The cost was 1200 dollars.

On 7/1/2011, my 2005 chevy silverado lost brakes. The loss of brakes was caused by a leak from a corroded section of brake line. I had that section of the line replaced and continued to drive. On 6/12/2012, the same thing happened to another section of the brake line. The corroded line split and brake fluid was gushing out. Luckily, on both occasions i was able to stop my vehicle before crashing into someone or something.when i had my vehicle towed to my mechanic, he said that the brake lines were so corroded that he would recommend replacing the entire line for safety. I also had an opportunity to look at the lines and was in complete agreement with the mechanic. My vehicle at the time of the first incident was 6 years old and had 57,751 miles on it. The second incident occurred about a year later and the mileage was 62,719.

While driving, i hit the brakes and the peddle went to the floor. Narrowly missing 2 cars in front of me. Upon review after towing home, all 4 front brake lines have considerable "flaking corrosion", with one blown line and one line seeping. I used the e-brake to get off the road as it had absolutely no brakes whatsoever. Rear brake lines are rusted as well. Got ahold of gm dealer and was quoted $1100 time and material to "fix". I chose to fix myself with stainless steel line. This is the last gm product i will ever own.

I was driving down a hill about 25 mph on a city street when a warning notice appeared " service steering system" and " service brake system". Almost immediately i could not steer or brake. I almost hit a pedestrian trying to steer and stop. I finally was able to turn a corner and stopped. I slowly drovetwo blocks to my house at about 5 mph. I am a strong man and if my wife or a less strong individual had been driving, orifi had been going more than the 25 mph or if i was driving at night, i amsure i wouldn't have been able to avoid hitting the pedestrian and / or going off the road and wrecking. This seems like a major accident waiting to happen.my vehicle has been towed to the gmc repair shop in beaverton, oregonawaiting diagnosis.

While driving i lost all brake pressure and was unable to control the speed of my truck, at the service shop i was shown that the brake lines were extremely corroded and had failed.

My 2005 chevy silverado 1500 z71 has rear drum brakes.due to shimmy when breaking in april 2008, we replaced rear brakes pads.when replacing them, it was discovered that they were originally installed wrong.they were then put together correctly and have had serious issues ever since. I have replaced brake pads and drums twice in the past year and a half. And still, it needs to be done again.i have had it to two different shops. The brakes seem to be consistently hot causing the shoes to fall apart.

Abs brake system engages at low speed when braking, pedal pulsates. Began june 2008, 22000 miles, replaced pads, rotors, speed sensors, symptom stopped. May 2009 started again 26000 miles, still looking for cure.

Abs light came on and flashed while driving.it went off when vehicle was turned off and sat for several hours.two days later, was driving and heard a noise from the driver's side front wheel.took vehicle into a mechanic and discovered wheel bearing was bad and had to be replaced.the mechanic advised me to keep the part due to the fact of the number of chevrolets he has seen with this same problem.my vehicle has approx. 44,000 miles.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. The contact stated that when driving at low speeds on dry pavement and trying to decelerate the brakes would go straight to the floor board and would slowly come to a stop. He also noticed that the anti-lock warning would illuminate on the instrument panel. The vehicle was not inspected by a dealer nor had it been repaired. The manufacturer was also contacted and advised him to take the vehicle in for diagnostic testing, since there were no recalls issued on the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 52,000. The vin was unavailable.

I read an article in the paper regarding failure of the brakes on older full size chevy trucksdue to rust. I would like to report this problem as occurred on my 2005 chevy 1500 full size pickup. The failure [rust] also included the abs system on my chevy truck. I bought the truck new in 2005 and the truck only has 35,480 miles on it. I paid $414.93 to repair the brakes on this truck on march 8,2010. I had the brakes repaired before an accident could occur.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500.when the contact applied pressure to the brake pedal, the abs failed and the pedal extended to the floor.the vehicle was unable to be stopped.the dealer replaced both slow speed abs sensors at the cost of $212 each.the manufacturer did not assist.the failure mileage was 16,000 and current mileage was 18,000.

On a 2005 truck with 20,000 miles on and it's a babied truck the brake rotors appear warped as it has a wave like braking. Even worse when braking on a surface with poor contact, sandy, sand on concrete or blackop, wet cement the anti-lock brakes completely release and the truck jumps forward like no brakes are applied 15 ft. Or so. I'd much rather have no anti-locks because at least i can use a stabbing motion if needed. These brakes don't work like normal anti-locks. It fully releases and there's too much lag time before they resume braking. I can live with the speedometer reading wrong at times, the knock in the steering column was repaired, even the warped rotors that started at 12,000 miles but these anti-lock brakes are a safety hazard. Please look into these before someone is seriously hurt. This has happened multiple times spanning several years.

Abs problem with 2005 silverado..system engages on dry pavement at speed 3 to 10 miles per hour. Extends the stopping distance.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at low speeds, the anti-lock braking system engaged without warnings. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offered any assistance since the vehicle was not included in any recalls. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 64,000 and the current mileage was 65,000.

Abs brake problem 2005 chevy truck dose not always stop. Sometimes rolls up to 15 feet past stop signs and crosswalks is very dangerous. I found out there was a recall for 1999 to 2002 trucks. This is the same problem. My tuck is now in the shop for repairs. It's going to cost big bucks. Has only 37,000 miles on it and i am unemployed. Just glad i did not hurt anyone.

2005 silverado abs engaging at low speeds . Abs system engages and vehicle fails to stop. Can cause rear end collisions in stopped traffic or allows vehicle to enter cross roads. Vehicle behaves the same way that prompted the abs recall on older model pickups.

Anti-lock brake sensor allows salty water to enter, abs activates at low speeds every stop every day.

When rolling forward to a stop, the abs activates, pedal falls, and truck rolls past stop sign. At first it was random, now it happens all the time when stopping.i won't let my wife or daughter drive it.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. While driving approximately 10 mph, the brake pedal traveled to the floor without warning. The contact had to constantly pump the brake pedal and apply extreme force to ensure that the vehicle completely stopped. The vehicle was able to be driven to the contact's residence and parked. Upon further inspection, it was noticed that a brake line may have prematurely fractured and there was a presence of leaking fluid. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 05v043000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided no solution other than to have the vehicle repaired by a dealer. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000. ..updated 11/21/16

2005 silverado- abs engages when coming to a slow stop, on dry pavement.abs will engage and pulsate when driving 5-10 mph, with out brake peddle being touched.abs engaging when stopping occurs on every stop, pulsating while in motion on rare occasion.

While braking on all pavement conditions, as vehicle slows, brakes go into abs mode and vehicle surges forward, requiring additional pedal force to stop. Occurs at 5 mph or less even on dry pavement. Occurs with all pedal pressures.

2005 chevrolet silverado 1500 had continuous problems with the brakes. The steering wheel vibrated while braking.the dealer determined that both front rotors were out by 4 thousands of an inch.the dealer resurfaced both front rotors. The brakes continued to be a problem so the dealer replaced the rotors.the consumer still experienced some brake shimmy.the dealer replaced the brake vacuum booster.

Driving home on the highway the left rear wheelbecame detached from the axle and hub assembly. The tire and wheel assembly rolled away from the vehicle to the other side of the highway, causing the vehicle to lose traction and crash into the median of the highway and skid to a halt. Completely tore apart the driver side rear suspension and brake assembly as well as considerable body damage to the rear quarter panel, rear bumper, and tow hitch. Vehicle has only light duty use, mostly commuter miles, with good tires, excellent maintenance records, and less than 39,000 , just out of warranty.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. The contact had to replace the entire braking system on his vehicle. The contact stated that both of his wheels would not turn while driving approximately 15 mph. The contact wrote the gm manufacturer in regards to the failure and they responded that the contact was responsible forreplacing the brakes.the failure mileage 30,226.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving 9 mph, the abs activated and overrode the brakes without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who ran a diagnostic test but no failure codes generated for the brakes. The dealer then lubricated and cleaned the brakes. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and offered no assistance. The vin was unavailable.the failure mileage was 62,000.

- the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500.the vehicle started having brake problems at 4,000 miles.the brakes pulsated and shook.the dealer rotated the rotors and cut them downtwice.the brake pedal shook when it was depressed.the dealer had tried several fixes, but the brake problem continued.the contact had an appointment to have the hub sensor replaced.the current mileage is 13,000.

Narrowly avoided 2 low speed rear end collisions when abs activated at low speed (less than 10 mph) when approaching other stopped vehicles at intersections.the abs has activated 6 times, intermittently for the past 3 months.luckily, there were no other cars present on the other 4 occasions.weather/road conditions were always good with dry roads.temps. Varied from cold, <32 deg. F to seasonal 40-60 deg. Fi have researched the tsb on this item and it is consistent with recalls on earlier chevrolet models, yet, gm refuses to issue a recall on this safety critical item.dealer refused to pay for repairs as i am past the warranty period for this vehicle (41,000+ miles, model year 2005).problem has not been corrected yet.

Anti-lock brake intermittent malfunction, as with other years comes on at low speed.

Noticed my brake lines coming out of the brake master cylinder are rusting ! these lines are not near the road [ chemicals/ road salts ] but are in the engine compartment. My truck is located and driven in southerncalifornia in a warm location [ not in the mountains and winter cold].i will have to check the rest of the linesand do something before they rust thru and cause an accident.this is a safety issue.

Abs engages when rolling to a stop sign at very low speeds. The brake pedal gets soft and you roll past where you think you would have stopped. The abs light does not come on when this happens. I disabled the abs by pulling the fuse and the problem does not occur. I think it is a abs sensor issue as there are no leaks or loss of brake fluid and evertything else looks fine.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500.while driving approximately 40 mph, the contact smelled smoke.she pulled into a parking lot and noticed that the front driver's side tire was smoking.in addition, the hub cap melted and fell to the ground.the vehicle was towed to the dealer and they stated that the braking system failed.the current and failure mileages were 78,000.

Purchased 2005 brand new from dealer. I am familiar with what to do to break-in a new vehicle. I occasionally cross a mountain, and when i apply the brakes lightly, they immediately start to pulsate very noticeably.to get them to stop pulsating, i must apply the brakes fairly hard. This happens all the time on hills/mountains. I was hoping that this would work itself out with time. I presently have 21,000 miles on the truck. I am the only driver since new and it has never seen winter here in pennsylvania. I rotate the tires every 5,000 miles and that hasn't made any difference. I have inspected the brakes and they look fine. The brakes are very strong on this silverado.

I am experiencing the exact symptoms of recall #05v379000 on my 2005 chevrolet silverado. At low speeds the abs activates resulting in reduction of braking ability and multiple near accidents. After experiencing the problem, i searched the internet and discovered that the defect existed on previous model year of my truck.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. The contact stated that the abs would intermittently engage while driving 25 mph and above on normal road surfaces. When the failure would occur, the vehicle would become increasingly difficult to stop. The contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The failure mileage was 29,000.

Upon having my truck inspected for 2014, it was revealed to me that all of the brake lines on the truck were severely corroded and needed replaced.i was told that this is a "common" problem on chevy trucks.the cost of repairing the brake lines has been estimated at a much higher number than the $500 that gmc quotes.on top of that i fail to see why they can create stainless steel exhaust systems, but apparently use cheap metal for their hard brake lines.i actually had the truck undercoated at the chevy dealership so that i would not have to deal with these type of issues.i'm not sure who undercoated the vehicle, but i will never get it done by chevrolet again.i have had much older vehicles (1982) that went double the amount of years before needing any hard brake repairs.i have read about the investigation into these vehicles up to the year 2003, but i think that the problem must still exist in newer vehicles such as mine.

When rotating my tires at 29,000 miles, i inspected the front disc brakes on my truck.i noticed that ton both front wheels. The disc brake pads were only touching the rotors in an area of 1/2" on the inside of the rotors.i took the truck to the dealer and they said it wasn't covered by the warranty because it had more than 25000 miles. I had to replace the rotors and brake pads at my own expense of $400.

Sudden loss of all brakes after pressing on brake pedal hard, able to use parking break only to stop. Found burst/leaking brake hydraulic line underneath vehicle in vicinity of drivers door. Line was heavily corroded.

Abs brakes on 2005 chevy silverado kicked in at low speeds without the need for them.this is exactly the same as the situation on the recall for 1999-2002 silverados.this old recall is nhtsa campaign id number: 05v379000.

I have a 2005 chevrolet silverado. I had to replace all of the brake system at 30,000 miles. I e-mailed fritz at his e-mail site. I was called by a rep and was told that they would not reimburse me.

At low speeds (from 5mph to 0mph), the abs braking system on my 2005 chevrolet silverado engages on dry pavement and the brake pedal goes to the floor.there is a well documented recall on chevy trucks built in 2000 - 2004, but gm says that they do not have an active recall on later models (mine's a 2005).this is a severe problem because the vehicle does not want to stop.http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2006/02/gm_regional_recall.html.

While braking hard for a turn i came up on quickly, and as i approached slower speeds, the anti lock braking system completely released allowing the truck to surge forward. I was just beginning my turn and i believe there was a small amount of sand on the roadway that caused a wheel to slide momentarily but all the brakes released in a manner that could have caused an accident if there was a vehicle in front of me. The truck moved forward for a full 2 seconds prior to the brakes re-engaging. The brakes did not immediately reapply as you would expect a properly working system to behave. It wasn't the rapid application you get like when your on ice. The condition has not repeated itself to date although i have not tried to recreate the same conditions either.

I am experiencing the exact symptoms of recall # 05v379000 on my 2005 chevrolet silverado. At low speeds the abs activates resulting in reduction of braking ability and multiple near accidents. After experiencing the problem, i searched the internet and discovered that the defect existed on previous model year of my truck. This a serious defect gm uses the same bearings on 1999-2009 silverados. Abs shouldn't activate on dry pavement at low speeds. Help get this fixed before someone gets hurt or killed!

Abs low speed activation. As i was stopping around 5 mph abs would start to activate causing the truck to not stop correctly. This would happen most of the time when stopping. Took truck to devoe chevy dealer ,alexandria indiana, for repair. Both front abs hub sensors needed replaced and hubs cleaned at cost of $359.10 truck has only 55900 miles.

Antilock braking system is activated at when 1) vehicle brake pedal is pressed, 2) vehicle is traveling less than 6 mph, 3) tire traction to road is excellent and antilock braking activation is not necessary. Deceleration is greatly reduced by antilock braking system activation under these conditions.

Rotors rusted, separated and chipped, destroying the rotors and brakes.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. The contact stated that when decelerating, the brakes would pulsate and exhibit an abnormal vibration. The abs light was also illuminated which the contact stated was the cause of the brake pulsation. The contact made repairs to the brake line and was later taken to the dealer for an anti-lock box.the failure mileage was approximately 15. Updated 3/1/11updated 12/14/11

I was approaching a stop sign when i applied the brake the pedal went almost to the floor. I pushed my emergency brake pedal to help me stop.`i was going about 30 to 40 miles per hour. There should be a recall.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. The anti-lock braking system has failed for approximately two years. Occasionally, when the contact approached a stop sign and depressed the brake pedal, the brakes would not engage. The dealer stated that they could repair the vehicle at the owners expense.the failure mileage was 22,000 and the current mileage was 38,000.

Anti-lock brake sensor allows salty water to enter, abs activates at low speeds every stop every day.

Refer to nhtsa campaign id number:05v379000. Which states:summary:certain pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles may experience unwanted antilock brake system (abs) activation. This condition is more likely to occur in environmentally corrosive areas. This recall will be launched in the "salt belt" states of connecticut, delaware, illinois, indiana, iowa, maryland, massachusetts, maine, michigan, minnesota, missouri, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, west virginia, wisconsin and the district of columbia only.consequence:this can cause increased stopping distances during low-speed brake applications, which could result in a crash this is acknowledged in vehicle model year 1999-2002 chevy silverados, and was issued in 2005, however, my 2005 silverado with 25000 miles has the same issue, and an investigation has determined that the issue that had forced this recall is not resolved and carries through additional model years, through at least 2006. This issue results in an unsafe condition, and chevrolet must extend this recall to include later model trucks that fall within this recall.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500.at low speeds the abs will activate without warrant. This condition causes the vehicle to lurch forward before making a complete stop. The dealer was contacted and they repaired the left side at the owners expense . One month later the right side needed to be repaired at an expense of $848.00. No repairs were made. The failure mileage was 31852. The current mileage was 35786.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. At low speeds, the vehicle did not stop when the brakes were engaged. He spoke with two dealerships and advised them that the abs doest engage when it should. The dealer stated that the abs failure was a widespread issue. The dealer also confirmed that the abs rotor and sensors would become corroded and the abs would respond as if the tires were skidding and enable it at the inappropriate time. The abs fuse was checked; however, it indicated that the brakes were functioning properly. The manufacturer advised him to take his vehicle to a dealer so that they could provide them with the findings.the current mileage was approximately 49,700 and the failure mileage was approximately 49,600.

I have two chevrolet products, a 2002 tahoe and a 2005 1500 series work truck, both which have a clunk in the steering when driving the vehicles. My wife refuses to have the dealer work on her tahoe so she puts up with the noise. I had the dealer repair the work truck and the defective part was identified as "an intermediate steering shaft". After checking this out on the internet, it seems that gm has this problem with all of the trucks/suvs from the model run 1999 to the finish of the model run 2006. We are talking about a shaft that connects the in- cab steering assembly to the steering box in the engine compartment. It starts off with an occasional annoying clunk and progressing to a full time noise that can be heard and felt in the steering wheel. I believe the problem is in the collapsible part of the shaft as gm's response has been to lubricate the splines in the shaft and / or replace it. Whether the original shaft is repaired (lubricated) or a new one is installed, within 2k to 15k miles the defect is back. For gm to continue manufacturing trucks and cars (yes, their cars have the problem too) is simply tempting fate. How long before the splines on one of these shafts fails and makes the steering wheel no longer connected to the steering gear below? when that happens there will be a crash. So far gm is quietly replacing these parts, satisfied with just getting the customer out of warranty. I realize this will probably go nowhere, i just feel that it needs to be reported as a possible threat to the vehicle operation.

My 2005 chevy silverado had a clunking noise in the steering. The dealer replaced the intermediate shaft but this didn't fix it. This went on for months. Just prior to the warranty running out i convinced the dealers mechanic that the problem was in the rack-n-pinion assembly. They replaced it under warranty and that solved the problem.

Took 05 silverado 1500to dealer for a noise in steering (clunking sound)when it was still under warranty.dealer re-packed the steering shaft.a couple of months later and after warranty the clunking sound came back.wish i had know to settle for a newintermediate steering shaft from the get go after further research .

Steering column/shaft feels as if its coming loose, taking to dealer to fix.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado. While driving various speeds, the contact heard an abnormal noise coming from the steering column. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the steering column was greased, but the issue recurred. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to another dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering shaft bolt needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 84,000.

I purchased this (currently 87,000 miles) truck new in late 2004.i have replaced the steering geartwice (at 20,227 and 86,033 miles). The power steering pump twice (at 32,379 and 86,033 miles).and the power steering shaft twice (at 31,087 and 42,169 miles).while this is on its third power steering pump, each of the first 2 pumps had to be inspected for repairs due to noises when it was in for service.while the manufacturer issued bulletins for these parts after receiving complaints from customers about failures, the manufacturer has not recalled these parts.

Chevy has a recall #05010 on the secondary steering shaft for the 2005 silverado 1500 series truck. My local chevy dealer diagnosed my truck as havingthe same problem but since the vin code did not match their recall i would have to pay for the repair. Truck has 41000 miles and has 100,000 power train warranty. I contacted chevy corp customer service and they agreed to pay for the part but not the labor.(87.50). To me this shows chevy does recognize the problem but not willing to own up for all the repair cost..this i consider to unjust and think the should pay for the total repair because the have stated this is the same problem which exits on other vehicles..

In february 2010, i started to notice a clicking noise in the front wheel of my 2005 silverado.while returning from florida the noise increased and the right fronthub bearing failed and had to be replaced at 32,000 for $500.approximately two months later, the left side failed and the dealer replaced it and i had to pay $100. During the summer the intermediate steering shaft had to be replaced at a cost of $120.

Steering column knocks very annoying sound can be felt in steering wheel.

Clunking sound in steering since about 20k miles.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500.while driving over a bump in the road, the wheel felt as if it would fall and when applying the brakes he could feel movement in the steering shaft.this failure continued to occur at various speeds. The dealer repaired the steering shaft assembly; however, approximately 8 months later the failure reoccurred. The dealer stated that they are aware of the defect and installed a current version of the steering shaft. The failure reoccurred on july 27, 2008 one hour after he drove the vehicle from the dealer.the failure mileage was 22000 and the current mileage was 25700.

Steering column making rumbling sounds. Recall by nhsta posted on internet, however, manufacture states there are no recalls of such. Truck is just out of 3 year warranty. Manufacturer needs to address this problem with all 2005 models in this class. This is a safety issue according to the nhtsa due to a possible loss of steering while driving. The manufacturer should be made to fix this problem permanently, and not just temporarily like i have heard from others having this problem. The dealers charge for a fix and the problem just comes back after a short period of time.this should definitely be a recall by chevrolet and gm and they should be made to fix it permanently.if my steering goes away, and a crash follows, they will not have to worry about fixing the problem, they will have to worry about being sued.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph, there was a loud abnormal popping noise coming from the front end of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The approximate failure mileage was 25,517 and the current mileage was 61,300.

Steering makes a "squealing" noise at low speeds while turning to the right.i have taken this problem to the dealer the sold me the truck several times before they identified the problem.they claim that it is common on this vehicle, but i am the only one who seems to have the issue.original dealer will not attempt to repair the problem even though it is still under warranty.

Steering rattle both felt and heard.returned to dealer 5/18/2006 mileage 18,310.intermediate steering shaft lube.problem returned months later.wrote to gm, they said a new shaft was available but i would have to pay to have it installed.i asked if there was chance of steering failure or extreme tire wear, they said no studies have been done and would not predict if a steering failure would/would not occur.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500.while attempting to turn the vehicle, the contact heard a loud bumping noise coming from the steering column.he took the vehicle to the dealer and they replaced the intermediate steering shaft.he is in the process of calling the manufacturer in reference to nhtsa campaign id number 05v018000 (steering:gear box:shaft sector).the failure mileage was 27,000 and current mileage was 28,400.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, she would hear a loud abnormal noise. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis where they advised her that the driver's side hub failed and needed to be replaced.the vehicle was repaired. In addition, when driving at low speeds and completing turns, the steering wheel would seize and the contact was unable to maneuver the steering wheel. There was also a loud grinding noise when the failure occurred. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where they advised her that the power steering box failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and advised her that the vehicle had no existing recalls. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000. The current mileage was approximately 100,000.

When turning steering wheel at slow speed forward and reverse loud clunking and vibration in steering.

The front end intermittently begins to "shimmy" at about 50mph. I have replaced tires, inner and outer tie rods, and brakes calipers but the problems have not resolved.the vehicle has always had problems with a "clunking" from the steering column.several owners report the same problem.

Noise in steeringclunking sound

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. While accelerating from a stop, the steering wheel became stiff. The contact pulled over and shut the vehicle off; upon restart, the vehicle functioned properly. The failure occurred intermittently while driving at low speeds. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that all of the steering mechanisms needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The current and failure mileages were approximately 80,000.

The steering wheel and column started with a slight rattling when on a road with bumps. It has now become very loud and raised a safety concern. The dealer has done an inspection and advised replacement of bearing and bushing. This is a safety concern!

I have a 2005 silverado work truck. It started as an annoying clunk' and has turned into a continuous clunk. After doing research, i found the intermediate shaft is the problem. The dealer wont touch it even though there is a bulletin for '03-'04 models. If this shaft fails at highway speed the driver is in deep trouble. Why has this not been made a full blown recall?

Vehicle was sold which was believed to be an illegal california safety inspections had for three months driveshaft flew off of vehicle a week after purchasing dealer ship fix but but a driveshaft that was to short for the vehicle which was the reason for the incident second incident cause collision into brick wall because vehicle lost steering believed to be cause by safety issues dealership retired to pass off as an "as is " vehicle air bags did not deploy

Took truck in for check up said steering worn and leaking both left and rightwas replaced with chevy partsat chevy dealer it is now 8-22-12 nowtook it in to have it check before vacation and their saying the steering box leaking mileage now is 37,778i don't understand the trouble with this part it is also very expensive.

Dt*: the contact stated the center cover of the steering wheel, where the air bag was located had fractured.the vehicle was taken to the service dealer who could not determine if the deployment of the air bag could be affected.

I have had the steering replaced 3 times on my truck. And it is still messed up.

Knocking in steering column. The dealer fixed it once under warranty, but now it's back and dealer is quoting $270 for 'temp' repair, and claims there is no permanent repair for it??

I have had the steering replaced 3 times on my truck. And it is still messed up.

Problem began with "clunking"noise and rattle in steering column which became progressively worse. Took to dealer, and they replaced the intermediate steering shaft with the note on the repair order"lack of lube in splines". Cost $204.01. This is a 2005 chevrolet silverado pick-up truck with 57,000 miles; is that the best they can build them?

Steering column knocking noise.

I have had the steering replaced 3 times on my truck. And it is still messed up.

Steering clunk.

My 2005 silverado began having a rattle in the steering at 5,000 miles. The dealer replaced the steering knuckle and showed me a pile of them and said it was a common problem. At 9,000 miles the same problem recurred and the dealer said there was a 'new campaign solution' which was a heavy grease. This worked for 2000 miles and the problem recurred. The truck has had this grease job several times and gm refuses to replace the steering knuckle again. On a slow left turn the truck rattles loudly, and 'jumps'. Several friends with new gm trucks report the same problems.

Steering problems with 2005 chevrolet c1500 truck, tie rods worn out at 20k intermediate steering shaft wore out as well dealer unable to correct safety issues under warranty.

I complained to dealer since the purchase of vehicle about a noise and feel in the steering wheel like something was loose when driving slow over a rough road. After 2 years and approaching the end of my warranty i convinced the mechanic to change out the rack-n-pinion steering unit. Problem fixed and drives like a new truck. Ak

Steering locks in left & right turns as well as u-turns.

Felt like the power steering was not working while making a left turn, which made it very hard to turn the steering wheel when making a turn at low speed. This occurred when the truck was les than 6,000 miles out of warranty. Took to dealer who said that the rack and penion was bad. They contacted the factiry rep. Who covered the part and i paid for the labor.

Rotors rusted, separated and chipped, destroying the rotors and brakes.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. The contacted stated that he attempted to replace a flat tire but discovered that the spare tire bracket would not release. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who performed a diagnostic and advised that the spare tire bracket was corroded and the assembly would need to be replaced. The manufacturer advised the failure was not recalled and that they would not assist with the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 39,000 and the current mileage was 40,471.

The contact inspected the vehicle and discovered that the frame was corroded. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the frame needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 150,000. Ma 10/1

I started seeing rust spots around the bottom the cab and had to put it in the shop because rust had eaten through, the repairman said it look as if the area had never been treated for corrosion, this vehicle should not be doing this and he said he could not guarantee that it want continue. I feel gm should pay for the repair and make sure it dose not happen again.

We took our 2005 chevy z71 silverado in for the inspection and it wouldn't pass due to rotted frame. So now we have a useless truck that looks and drives fine but won't pass inspection.now we're hearing about several same model truck are having the same issue. We have always taken the best care of all our vehicles and have been loyal gm customers.but it sure seems the quality of gm products are not what they used to be.especially for the amount of money that we invest in them.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet k1500 silverado. The contact stated that upon routine inspection, a technician concluded that the frame had fractured due to stress from the lift kit installed on the vehicle. He then added that the previous dealer( southern comfort conversions) installed the lift kit and that it would cost $11,000 for repairs.the manufacturer was contacted, but because the warranty expired they would not provide any assistance. The failure and current mileages were 103.000.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500.while driving 35 mph, the front end vibrated violently.the contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that the frame split in half.as of october 1, 2007, the dealer had not inspected the vehicle to determine the cause of failure.the current and failure mileages were 46,000.updated 10/24/07.

Drivers side rear shock absorber upper mounting cross member has corroded off the vehicle. This should cause a recall as rotting frame parts are very hazardous. This truck has 88000 miles. Recently i had to replace all the brake lines in this truck as well. Brakes were lost luckily in the driveway. Heard a loud clunking in the rear and found the shock absorber mount had rottedoff.

The front end intermittently begins to "shimmy" at about 50mph. I have replaced tires, inner and outer tie rods, and brakes calipers but the problems have not resolved.the vehicle has always had problems with a "clunking" from the steering column.several owners report the same problem.

Frame broken behind cab on both sides

Rust rust rust. Frame is so bad truck will not pass nys safety inspection next year. I have to sell it for scrap/salvage as gm won't offer anything but a "possible" credit if i buy a new chevy truck. No way i'll do that:(. Truck only has 25,500 miles as it is a second vehicle. It was never used off road or for snow plowing. Just rusted away sitting in the driveway.

My 2005 general motors product (purchased new) now has 15,600 miles on the odometer, and has had (5) five front end alignments. Each time the toe/camber/and caster , have changed. This product had (2) new front tires replaced by a g m dealer @ 2,800 milesit is still "pulling to the left" and as of two days ago the steering wheel does not lock when the key is removed from the ignition. This vehicle is also on it's(3)third battery,(3) third radio, and the sun roof has leaked water inside cab >directly on my left hand on the steering wheel @ 55 mph. The water is dripping from the sunvisor post directly above steering wheel. I have filed my complaint with then h t s a .. On oct.28,2005 reference # 10141129.

Dt*: the contact stated there was excessive tire wear due to a problem with the vehicle's front end.the tire wore down to the wear bar, from the center of the tire to the outside edge.there was a bad vibration in the front end, most noticeable at 45 mph, but was felt at all speeds, and whenever the vehicle encountered irregularities in the road.the service dealer was notified, but not the manufacturer.

Front left wheel bearing assembly failure. Heard sound coming from front end and took it in to mechanic to have repaired. Bearing assembly with abs sensor replaced. Cost $450 for replacement. Vehicle mileage 63,000 miles.

Left front tire fell out from underneath the vehicle. Wheel bearing failed causing truck to veer left drastically.

Heard a noise from front of vehicle followed by an abs warning indication, drove to nearest dealer. Failure of left front hub bearing, replaced part number 15863441.

The intermediate steering shaft is loose and make a lot of noise while driving

Fuzion tires size 265/70r/17 both back tires with only 5,000 miles developed a bulge on the tread and had to be replaced

I bought my truck, 2005 silverado z71 from a used car dealer in december 2014.i love the truck. I live in maine. We have state inspection laws that are enforced by the police. When the inspection sticker ran out in january 2015, i was unable to get a new one, due to the frame is badly rusted. I called the dealer i bought it from and he basically told me to get bent and that it wasn't his problem, even though he assured me i would have no trouble getting an inspection sticker when the time came, at the time of the sale (i could only assume he was right, because the truck looks perfect). I understand that he is just trying to make a living, like the rest of us, and do not hold it against him. I do not, however, understand how gm can get away with making vehicles that cannot last 10 years. The truck is perfect, inside and out, it runs great, yet you can take pieces of the frame off with your bare hands. I now have a $260/month payment for the next 3 1/2 years that i am stuck with. I cannot sell the truck for nearly what i bought it for 8 months ago.i went ahead and called the corporate office of chevrolet yesterday, and after 3 separate calls, i was put in contact with a higher-up and he told me there was nothing that could be done to help me, as the manufacturer's warranty has expired. He also said this is the first complaint he has heard, "i mean, come on, this is a 10 year old truck". Doubt it.anyways, this a definite safety concern, as i don't think my truck would fare too well in a collision. I will not let my 6 y/o daughter ride in it.i would also just like to say that due the amount of rust on the frame of my truck, it has been going on for several years, and i only wish someone had pointed this out sooner, and maybe then it would have been covered under the factory warranty, though i seriously doubt it after speaking with donald yesterday.

Chevy silverado and chevy suburban with same problem. Check engine light comes on. This could either mean to check engine or that the gas cap is loose. Engine was checked and so was gas cap. Nothing wrong. Servicer turned off the check engine light. Next time truck was started up the light came on again.

Myinstrument cluster has been acting erratic since may 2012.now the speedometer no longer works.the dealer found the instrument cluster and vent solenoid bad in june 2014.costing me nearly $800, which i do not have. The vehicle only has 53,000 miles on it when i took it to the dealer.i believe my vehicle should be covered under the gm speedometer recall.

A car with no lights (at night) came up and the driver of the 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500 had to hit the gas pedal to speed up to get out of his way.the driver lost control and hit the ditch.the front end was damaged, and the cab is now sitting incorrectly on the truck.the air bag did not deploy.

After stopping to pay a toll , while accelerating back up to highway speed, the vehicle suddenly and unexpectedly began to increase speed. Even while foot was off gas pedal.

2005 chevy silverado 1500 4wd.when coming to a stop, abs engages every time.this causes the vehicle to stop erratically and sometimes increases the stopping distance.abs system only engages when almost to a stop, less then 5 mph.i will be replacing both wheel hubs/abs sensors to try to fix the problem.found this article on canadian models:http://www.ebearing.com/news2005/053101.htm.

I was on my way to work and i stopped at a stop sign and happened to look down at my speedometer and it was showing that i was going 10mph while i was sitting still. Then while i was driving the speedometer jumped to 85mph. This was the first time i have noticed this problem.

The speedometer will read 110mph when i'm just doing approximately 34-40.

Speedometer on my 2005 chevy silverado is suddenly not registering correctly.can register as much as 20 mph to fast or too slow.does not always occur.first discovered when i was stopped by police going 95 mph, when i thought the vehicle cruise was set at 75 mph (legal speed).i immediately bought a gps and since have noticed the changes are gradual and can easily go unnoticed.

I was driving down the freeway at 70 mph then .the cruise controlquit working while it was in gauged my speed dropped with a big truck behind me and i almost got hit in the rear by a big truck.this is not good.

Dri-ving vehicle (2005 silverado) and noticed the speedometer rereading approx 120. Now speedometer will start anywhere on the dial and will read a variation of speeds.sitting at a stop light it may read 120 mph.

Cruise control stopped working, will not power on.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving 5 mph, he noticed that the heater/cooler had become inoperable. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed the contact that he would need to replace the heater relay and the wiring harness because the fingers were melted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.updated 2/28/11 the consumer stated the heater relay melted and part of the wiring harness as well. Updated 04/27/11

2005 chevrolet silverado 1500.smell from heater/a/c blower.first told blower motor.upon closer examination found that blower motor was ok but resistor and wiring harness had melted/burned.damage was local to harness and resistor.dealer will not cover damage.service bulletin exist but will not help pay.

A/c-heater fan stopped working on 5, then 4, then stopped working all together. Upon removing the plastic cover for the internal components, i discovered that the module going to the fan and the plug were melted together. Also, the wires on the wiring harness going to the module were melted to the point that the wires were exposed and shorting across to one another.

The wiring harness to the blower motor resistor in my 2005 chevrolet started smoking, from excess heat within the wiring to the harness or resistor.i have since replaced the harness and resistor, but it still does the same thing.hopefully this faulty wiring harness is the only one in these models.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500.the contact was driving approximately 35 mph with the heater activated when he noticed a burning odor coming from the connector for the heater blower. The vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road where the engine was turned off as the contact inspected the heater blower, which he discovered was melted. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vin was unavailable. The failure mileage was 88,000.

The wires leading to a/c blower are shorting out one at a time. It started with the climate control set on hi stopped working then went on down to 4. Could possible short out and cause a fire. I have not yet purchased the new parts to replace looked online first to see if there had been a recall for this problem.

The electrical connector for the hvac blower motor resistor caught fire and melted onmy 2005 chevrolet silverado k1500 w/t.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500.the contact stated that the heating circuits under the dashboard were heating up excessively and would crackle and sparkle.there were no recalls for this failure.the manufacturer would not assume liability for the failure.the contact was concerned that a fire could occur.he also stated that the heater and defroster were inoperable.the failure and current mileages were less than 22,588.

2005 4-door chevy silverado 4x4 defroster/heater/blower and directional indicator and temp gauge in mirror fail at altitude(about 3,000 feet) only in winter driving conditions where temp. Is around 32 degrees. Dealer is at a complete loss as to the issue which is a safety issue with no "heated" air passing over the windshield to clear and defrost.

It seems i have the same issue as most the blower works randomly. I have also smelled smoke. The blower stays on after the car has been shut off and i have exited the vehicle. Second time i have had issues first time was covered by warranty.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado. While driving approximately 8 mph, the contact "felt a crunch" on the front passenger side wheel. Immediately, the wheel slumped and the chrome wheel cover fell out. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact exited the vehicle and noticed that the fractured wheel was rusted out. With some help, the contact mounted a spare wheel, drove home, and then took the vehicle to the dealer where it was confirmed that the wheel fractured and needed to be replaced, at cost. The contact refused and drove home. The manufacturer stated that there was no recall and advised the contact to file a complaint with nhtsa. The wheel was not replaced. The failure mileage was 143,000. ...updated 08/15/16 consumer stated it is my assessment that the attached wheel cover traps water between the cover and the wheel, allowing extensive rust to occur over time.these chrome covers are factory installed. The driver side wheel bearing locked up and my truck was undrivable, it made a load clunking noisy and that was it, i just pulled off the highway to get gas, and when i started out of the station the front wheel lock up, it was good to have happen there instead of on the road, or i would not be writing this now, i had to call a tow truck and took it to a dealer, which confirmed that it did indeed lock up the left front wheel and the right one was very loose, needs tobe replace also, it buned the had burned the brakes completely up on the driver side, where it was totally lock up, the mechanic told me they replace them all the time from one year old and up so there has to be something wrong in this type of bearing, they are very expensive to be replaced, my truck has 47,450 miles and has been well maintain, so there is no reason that this should have happen.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500.the contact heard a slight rubbing noise coming from the vehicle and the abs light illuminated.the vehicle was taken to the service center and it made a metal on metal rubbing sound when a turn was made.the front passenger side wheel was loose and wobbling.the contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number 07e106000 (wheel cap/cover/hub).the cost of the repair was $330.the failure mileage was 113,000.

I had a wheel bearing go out of a chevy truck. The wheel was ready to fall of. It's a 2005 half ton.

The front end intermittently begins to "shimmy" at about 50mph. I have replaced tires, inner and outer tie rods, and brakes calipers but the problems have not resolved.the vehicle has always had problems with a "clunking" from the steering column.several owners report the same problem.

I have a 2005 chevy z-71. The wheel center caps fly off of the vehicle while driving. This has happened twice in the past month, and during the latest incident it almost caused a severe car accident. The center cap flew off of my driver's side rear wheel and hit an oncoming vehicle on the windshield. This caused the startled driver to wildly swerve back and forth into oncoming traffic behind me and almost cause a head-on collision. On a more minor note: these caps are a $70/ piece factory only item which should be covered under warranty when they fly off, but are not!

My wife (ann garlatta - with our three children in the vehicle as well) was driving home and the abs light came on, she heard noise in wheel while driving - like a squeaking & grinding, thenthe steering started to pull, and she started hearing the sound of pieces popping off, so my wife pulled over to the side of the 91 fwy, upon slowing down to the shoulder the car abruptly stopped as the front passenger side wheel fell off.

I was driving home from orange county on march 15, 2008 with my three children at around 8pm.i was traveling east on the 91 fwy when we began hearing a squeaking sound in my tires and my abs light had come on, shortly after our journey home the squeaking sound was followed by a grinding sound as well.i began getting off to the shoulder and started hearing the sound of little things dropping to the ground, followed by more things hitting the ground and my steering wheel began pulling to the right, so i pulled over just under the lincoln exit in corona.as i was coming to a stop the truck suddenly came to a hard stop, because my entire wheel came off!

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500.while driving 75 mph on a cross country trip, the abs indicator illuminated.the dealer stated that the inboard retention nut that was used to maintain the hub bearing assembly loosened, which resulted in the abs indicator illuminating, noise, and/or wheel separation.the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 07e106000 (wheels:cap/cover/hub).the manufacturer and dealer stated that the repair would cost $711.the contact will pay for the repair, but feels that his vehicle should be included in the recall since the failures are identical.the failure mileage was 61,764.updated 12/11/08.*ljupdated 12/11/08.

Rims have a engineering defect- they collect mud around a one inch gap around outside rim- this keeps front end out of line and cannot be kept in line- both wheel bearings have been replaced and i am on 3rd set of tires- i have complained since bought truck.
