Vehicle's air bags did not deploy during an accident in which the driver was injured in the facial area. Yh

Vehicle was involved in an accident, the air bags experienced no deployment, the driver and passenger sustained minor injuries.

Consumer was driving about 45 mph when he was rear ended by another vehicle. Applied brakes and the brakes went straight to the floorboard. Consumer hit the curb, and the vehicle came to a stop. Driver's air bag failed to deploy.contacted the dealer for repair service.

While driving at about 25mphvehicle shutdown, causing the driver to lose control and the brakes to be inoperable. Vehicle collided into a pole. Upon impact, the airbag did not deploy.the dealerand manufacturer have beennotified.

The event was a crash of my 1998 chevrolet silverado p/u. The crash was a forward moving impact to the side of another vehicle with a speed of 40 mph. And the air bags didn't deploy. The results was the driver impacted the steering wheel as of today only minor pain and bruises are evident. The is the first failure of this system i know of. I have tried to deploy the air bag form a 1995 buick and it didn't fire also, what is the problem with this system.this incident could have resulted in the death of the driver.

The contact owns a 1998 chevrolet k1500.the contact stated that the passenger side air bag deployed without warning.the vehicle was stationary and was not involved in a crash at the time.the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure.the purchase date was unknown.the failure mileage was 121,200 and current mileage was 122,713.

While traveling about 75mph on the highway she took off the cruise control.and without prior warning the consumer lost control of the vehicle and hit an embankment.thedual airbags didn't deploy at all.please fill in additional information dealer is aware of the problem. Ts

1998 chevrolet, k1500,4x4, 5.7 vortec at about 40,000 miles had to have intake manifold gasket replaced, windshield wiper motor works and then doesn't,master cylinder has failed twice,d/s electric window works and then doesn't and rear turn signal housing and connection on right side keeps failing, not bulb! also leak resulting in loss of coolant from reservoir, in the middle of underneath vehicle. Bought new!

On two separate occasions the vehicle stalledwhile driving at highway speed of 50 mph or more. Vehicle was towed to the dealer on the second incident which occurred on february 9, 2005. The dealer believed that the problem maybe a faulty safety cut off switch. Consumer had buddy-booster removed and problem has not reoccurred.

My wife and i were driving down a city street at about 30mph when we smelled smoke, i pulled over and saw flames shooting from the interior of the driver door panel.i tore open the door panel and saw that the electric outside mirror control was on fire.i beat the fire out with a towel, after the smoked cleared i started the engine again and the control burst into flames again, at this point i severed the wiring harness.

This is an ongoing problem for several years.my battery has side mounted terminals. Each time the temperature goes up or down the positive post becomes loose. Most times it is a problem as i start the vehicle. When i turn the key the engine begins to start, then it shuts down due to lack of electrical power.twice in the past week it has shut down while traveling down the road, once in the middle of i-83, during rush hour in downtown harrisburg, pa. Over the last few years it has, on several occasions, "hiccupped" several times while i was driving.i have tightened the screw-in post down (twice) to the point where i have rounded the hex head off and the wrench jumped off the head but, it continues to come loose.i spoke with an auto parts store and they recommended an adhesive, which i tried. It still came loose. I have even changed out the battery but, still the problem exists.this was a very popular year for chevy w/t pick up trucks.i cannot imagine these problems have not been involved in recalls before now. The obvious fix is to replace the battery with one that has top mount posts. I would also have to replace the cables. Why should i have to pay that when this is obviously a design flaw?

Consumer has been experiencing static electric shock.took ownership of vehicle from the dealer;. Dealer notified and he refused to inspect the vehicle.condition still occurs. Also manufacturer notified.

The heater blower on the high setting that defrosts the windshield for visibility stopped working. The cab of the truck filled with smoke and smelled like plastic burning. The electrical harness for the blower motor was burning. The dealership said it was a design defect but the year of my truck didn't qualify for the recall.if i didn't can't the burning wires when i did my truck would have burned to the ground. This is a life threatening defect. I had it verified that the load for the wire and the type of connector used for the wiring harness is not adequate for the electrical load of blower motor and blower speed relay.i owned this truck for years without being in a hot or extreme cold environment. When i used the high speed blower to defrost the windshield it could have killed me.the truck still has not been repaired, the mfr refuses to accept that this truck falls under the same defect as other years.

1998 chevorlet silverado c1500 pickup failedto start intermittently. Problem is related to the gm pass lockii system. Problem started 1.5 years ago and has become more frequent. I talked withthelocal gm repair facility , and they said it would cost between $200 - $6ooto troubleshoot. Replacement parts would be an additional cost.also, they stated that gm was aware of an occasional malfunction with the pass lock ii system, but gm didn't think there was a widespread problem. This problem has left me stranded on several occasions. This malfunction happened without notice, and sometimes it took anywhere from a few minutes to several hours for the malfunction to correct itself to the point where i could start the truck. I have replaced several partsrelated to the pass lock ii system, but the problem still persisted. Gm offeredno help.

My 1998 chevy w/t 4x4 has a dangerous and unsatisfactory braking problem. Brakes are very weak and spongy. They are undependable and unsafe. There is complaints about this problem dating back to 2009. I have replaced pads, shoes, rotors, drums, wheel cylinders, all brake springs and hardware, brake lines and hoses, master cylinder and brake booster, and wheel speed sensors. Clearly there is a problem in the anti lock computer control system. There are recalls for 1999 models for same problems.why aren't 1998 models included. There is obviously safety issues with my, and many other truck owners as well. Next safety issue, the windshield wipers only work on one speed, high. Or they stop working while driving. It is a safety issue that has continued to be reported many times. Third is fuel gauge only works from 3/4 to full, doesn't move until you run out (empty). These issues should be addressed to the proper manufacturer . All these complaints from myselfand hundreds of other tax paying americans , we deserve to be safe and protect other drivers .

Transmission failure in a 1998 chevrolet c1500 pickup truck .ses light comes on and harsh shift 1to 2 and no overdriveall the shops i talked to say it is a engineering desgn flaw in the transmission and gm knows about it. But after talking to gm customer service they have no idea of that the transmissions are failing . Cottman transmission has contacted them about the large number of failures.

Transmission failed. Yh

Reaction sunshell or sun gear shell had a clean break while being driven in traffic which interacted the reverse mode of the automatic transmission.the truck had to be towed in and the failure took several days before repaired.gm has sent information to the dealership about this which the consumer was able to obtain a copy from the service manual.please describe details. Auto transmission fail to go into reverse or 2nd or 4th gear making vehicle unmovable.

I own a 1998 cevrolet k-1500 4wd silverado pickup truck.i've been having a problem with the slip yoke on the transmission and driveshaft not performing properly for the last two years.it makes a "squaking"sound and feels like it is taking out the slackin the driveshaft when you push on the gas pedal.it does the same when you are coming to a stop.i wrote to chevrolet 2 years ago and they told me i should get a hold of my dealer to have the problem investigated.i did that at bergey's chevrolet in hatfield, pa 19440 on 02/20/2002-02/21/2002 at a cost of $103.67.they thought there was a replacement slip yoke for my truck, but when i showed up they said the new part was actually for a 1999 or newer truck so it wouldn't fit my truck.they said they could probably replace it with the same part exactly as i already had, but would experience the same problems down the road.they insted took my truck into the shop to give it a "fix" by disassembling the slip yoke, filing the splines on it, grease it with "magic grease" and then reassembled it.the problem reappeared two days later.i called them back.they said they'd call me when a new part was designed to fit my truck because until then they could do nothing to help me.i followed up with them over the next few months, but nothing ever came out of it.it's now two years later and the problem still exists.i hope you might be able to help me because noone else seems to be able to.thank you for your time and help. While shifting gear to reverse consumer noticegear engaging .

Transmission failed due to a valve modulator which regulates transmission fluid to the torque convertor and pump. The transmission failed first starting with the valve, pump, torque convertor, and burned the fluid. The replacement transmission sent is not the same one that came out the vehicle it been modified with a larger oil pan and differnt valve modulator.that in turn helps keep the transmission cooler and more fluid.

Transmission code 1870 slippage failure, shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. Transmission bangs into 2nd gear. After reading web sites, it appears that this is a prolific problem with any gm transmission in a light duty truck. I've talked to other people in the area, they also experience same problem. Indications from web responses indicate could be electrical oriented by not confirmed. Rebuilding may not provide cure. Gm needs to own up and recall.

Steering defect will end up causing accidents and death if caught by surprise, it makes you jerk the steering wheel at speed while making a a turn. Transmission problem is wide spred, every shop i contacted could tell me the error code(1870) and the solution, and that this part always fails just outside of warranty. Gm kows this, and yet does not help. This defect is causing consumers from 400-2800 in repairs for a part with a known failure rate.

Seatbelt failed.

Front lap belt on passenger side tightens on passenger so much that you have to remove belt every now and then and rebuckle to relieve the tension.chevy dealer ordered 2 different belts, then said it is designed that way and charged us $141 and we still have the very same problem.dealer is not able to fix problem.

Front/rear seat belt retractor are plastic. This causes the plastic retractor casing to split, cutting into the seat beltswhen pulling back and forth. The dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

The passenger side seat belt had to be replaced.the belt was being replaced because it would not come out from the bottom mechanism.my mechanic told me that this is a common problem with chevys.

Driver's side seat belt retractor housing has plastic opening. Friction from seat belt motion has caused the belt to wear through the opening's edge and cut a slot into the housing, and the belt itself has become frayed and catches in the opening.contact me for a digital photo of belt and housing.

1998 chevy silverado k1500 brake issue:while braking at low speeds (20-10 mph) the abs will engage, increasing stopping distance.on some occasions the pedal will become very firm and will require pumping to disengage the abs.on other occasions the pedal will be soft, going to the floor, while abs is engaged.a clear safty issue.a recall should be considered since many of these vehicles exist on the road today.

Brake pedal goes sponges and all the way to the floor. The truck had over 120,000 miles before rear brakes were replaced. In that time i went through 8 sets of brakes and rotors. In 2005 i rear ended a car at about 30 mph. The brakes went to the floor. Local chevy dealership replaced a defective brake booster assemble. This was the second brake booster/ master cylinder assembly replace on my truck since 2005. Since then. I have lost brakes on the truck 4 more times. Failed brake lines (leak and break) blown brake caliper and rubber hose. I am an ase certified mechanic. The rear brakes of the truck did not provide any braking assistance when inspected. Suspected fault was a defective design on the 1500 series truck brakes. When 2500 brake parts are used ( master cylinder assy, proportioning valve, and rear brakes change to 11" drums the brake pedal feels firm and the braking power of the truck is drastically improved.i've owned the truck for over 11 years as the second owner i bought it with very low miles. The brakes on the vehicle have always been terrible. I initiall spent over $2,000 at the dealership string to bet the brakes correct. In the end the dealer said that "this is how they all are".

When trying to leave a parking garage, i depressed the pedal and the brake light came on and the pedal almost went to the floor. Got it home without incident. Took a look under the truck and the entire brake line was rusted. The place where the brake line broke was in a place where you could not physically reach it. The other lines running across the axle were also horribly rusted. Now i have to take all of them off, measure, bend, and refit. I refuse to pay gm to fix their shoddy work. I owned a 1991 gmc sonoma with over 300,000 miles on it and never had this problem.

Brake line split due to rust/corrosion.this has occurred 2 times since , i have replaced most of the brake lines.very dangerous !

We were going to a friends house in our 1998 chevy truck.the pedal went down to the ground.we brought the truck in and there was a leak in the brake line for the rear brakes.we replaced the brake lines.subsequently, i put the car up to see how the front brake lines look.they are almost rotted through.we now need to replace the front brake lines.chevy should find out why the truck looks so bad; the doors are all rotting away also.

Brake pedal suddenly went to floor without warning while driving.i was lucky to avoid a collision.

I started my truck and the pedal went to the floor.the brakelines were rusted and all the fluid leaked out.i paid $200.00 to get the line repaired and the mechanic said it,s a matter of time before i would have to have the other line replaced.he also stated that the fuel lines would need to be replaced before long.

Pulling into driveway to park into garage, pressed on the brake and it went all the way to the floor. Pushed down on emergency brake to stop the truck before it hit the garage wall.after placing the truck in park i opened the hood to see one of the badly rusted lines connecting to the front driver side wheel leaking fluid. Inspected all the rest of the brake lines personally all of the lines are severely rusted leading to abs & master cylinder.only line not affected was the rear break line i had replaced 2 years ago due to the same issue.

Abs malfunction.

I am having the same problem with mybrakes on my 1998 chevrolet silverado! i am also getting the same growling sound when you apply the brakes. The problem doesn't occur every time you apply the brakes. This problem started this spring, i think that it is a corrosion problem that is occuring in years 1999-2002.thank you

When coming to a stop in my 1998 chevy truck, my brakes sometimes go to the floor with a pulsating feeling when episode is happening. The truck will not stop, and i've bumped my garage on several occasions. Im afraidthere will be a accident someday when im in traffic.

My 1998 chevrolet silverado k1500 had a total front brake rotor failure in which the hub of the rotor detached from the rotor itself, resulting in a total loss of braking on the front right side.this was the factory rotor.any stops resulted in pulling to the left, heavy braking caused extreme moving of the vehicle to the left.i repaired by replacing the rotors and brake pads on the front.

Brakes on my 1998 k1500 pulsate and then go to the floor when coming to a stop. Dealership supposedly replaced abs module once for free then charged me two hundred dollars to replace it again. Replaced pads, shoes, calipers etc. Brakes still do this, have came close to hitting things in front of me due to this. From reading other articles on the net i am told by unhooking the abs it will stop doing this but then i will have no abs. Whats the point in having a new truck when the rear end will lock up just like it does in my 1982 ford truck with no abs.

I had read numerous peoples complaint on this issue. There apparently should be a recall on this problem. I have a 98 chevy silverado ext. Cab 4x4 and i'm having a problem with low speed(5-10mph) where the abs comes on and slowly and dangerously stops the vehicle. I realize that the wheel speed sensors are the problem, but if there isrecall for 99-up with the same problem, why doesn't anyone fix this? this is a constant problem and gets worse when cold or rainy out, winter is coming and do not want to have this same problem, please advise.

Noted difficulty in distance needed to stop about 1 year ago.also braking jerkiness.took to gm dealer repairs (new brakes) about 400.00 after a few weeks problem returned another gm dealer bill of 300.00 (for brakes) (believed first set may be faulty)then after a few weeks problem returned took to a different dealer and the wheel speed sensors cleaned then the problem returned a few weeks later.vehicle is very unstable, unsafe to drive.

While driving, applied brakes. Pedal went almost to floor and required a significant distance to stop. Noticed fluid leaking through the frame on drivers side of the truck. Found a pin hole leak in the steel brake line at the 45 degree bend at rear of truck where it offsets up to clear the frame and then back down to its connection by drivers rear shock. The leak was hidden behind the plastic bracket that holds the steel line to the frame. The entire brake line running along the inside of the frame has excessive corrosion. Very dangerous situation. Fortunately this didn't occur in a panic stop.

The contact owns a 1998 chevrolet silverado 1500. The contact stated that the brakes repeatedly failed. The hubs, calipers, rotors, and the master cylinder were repaired three separate occasions. Whenever the brakes were depressed, they would vibrate violently and seize. The vehicle was taken to two different mechanic shops for the repairs, but they could not diagnose the failure. The dealer was not notified. The manufacturer was notified and stated that there were no recalls or warranties available. No further assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 105,000.

Antilock brake sensor activated the brakes at less than 5mph just as listed in the recall which includes 1999 and beyond.it was a serious issue so i had it in for service on several occasions.they finally found the issue was the corrosion on the ab sensor and cleaned them.this resolved the issue.it has now started again as of december 2011 with 84,000 miles.it is exactly the same issue as before and as listed in the recall for 1999 and newer versions.

At 5 mph consumer applied brakes abs activated then released, resulting in a front crash. No injuries, damage to vehicle was $ 7000.00.

While driving 25 mph consumer heard a loud noise coming from the front. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to a body shopfor inspection. Have 1998 chevrolet silverado club cab pickup truck.when slowing to stop, the abs braking system malfunctions and the brakes prohibit the truck from coming to a stop in time.have read of investigation with abs brakes on other years.the 1998 is no different.i've had many close calls and much difficulty in getting some answers as to why were other years recalled and not the 1998.it is doing the same thing other models have a history of doing.

While driving woud step onbrake pedal and could heard air coming from the brakes.problem had been with the master cylinder .

Abs speed sensor has corroded. Gm did not warn me of potential corrosion or that the vehicle may have problems with uncontrolled stopping. Gm also did not plan a maintenance check up on the abs sensor, which could have prevented problems. During the short life of the vehicle this part was gradually becoming defective. This part under normal circumstances should last the life of the vehicle, since it is in a protected and sealed area that requires major mechanical work. I took my vehicle to the point of purchase, don mccue chevrolet where i have majority of all work done. They fail to understand that they are not the only mechanics in town. They are using this fact for the purpose of denial of any responsibility. I spoke with dennis briner the service manager at don mccue about this problem, and he stated after some arguing that this area of the vehicle is not considered regular maintenance with brake jobs or any other maintenance check up. They offered $130.00 to clean the corrosion but later refused, due too the fact they may break the sensor. My feeling is, is that this was a developing problem over the short life of the vehicle and should be covered by gm. I spoke with gm corporate directly and they responded that i failed to keep regular maintenance records. But when i asked where in their records do they show a regular maintenance schedule for abs speed sensors they said there isn't one. Gm hasn't been able to provide me with an owner's manual that proves them right. The solution was to pull the abs fuse by direction of a don mccue service tech. And gm offered to give me a gm loyalty certificate once i get the work done.

I own a 1998 chevy silverado pickup truck.recently my windshield wipers have become intermittent in working.very dangerous when driving down the road in the rain.also my anti-lock brakes are kicking on at low speeds.

The abs brakes feels spongy. Have no pressure. The pedal goes close to floor when applied. Vehicle would fail to stop. Has been to dealer at least 8 times for abs brakes. Had the pads changed about every 3,000-5,000 miles. The problem with abs brakes has not been fixed.

With only 20000 miles of light driving (no pulling conditions), the front pads were worn to the point needing replacement.the dealer admitted that they have seen pads wear out on my vehicle at 15000 miles in some cases.this, to me and every mechanic i've spoken to, seems extremely excessive.

Brake failure. Anti-lock brakes engage at low speeds (5-10 mph) when slowing to approach stop signs or when parking.

Abs activation at slow speeds in traffic and at frequent stops, activation of abs started around 07/2005. Serviced parts included new rotors and pads, rear drums and pad shoes, abs modulator, and master cylinder. Vehicle still has same noted problem.

Dt:numerous times, usually when it is snowing or wet pavement applies brake pressureand the brake goes all the way to the floor, engaging the abs, and the vehicle does not stop.also, thishappens on dry pavement.this occurs at low speeds with brake pressure and hits bumps.took vehicleto the dealer, who could not duplicate the problem.no repairs were made.

Dt: the brakes on the rear end just locked for no reason. If it is raining the braking is worse. The back end locks and the vehicle will slide. This occurs on different occasions with out warning. The vehicle has been seen bydealerseveral times, too many to list. The dealer has never been able to determine the root of the problem. The vehicle was purchased new. No rear braking parts have ever been replaced. On several occasions the vehicle owner has lost control and nearly had an accident.

The contact owns a 1998 chevrolet k1500. While driving 10 mph when the brakes engaged, the contact stated the brake pedal was resistant and failed to engage. He had to apply extreme force to the brake pedal in order for them to engage, increasing stopping distance and time. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 82,000.updated 06/17/10.*ljthe consumer stated the anti-lock brake were working against the brake pedal, not allowing the brakes to be applied. Vehicle has abs brakes.when towing extra loadsbrake pedal goes to the floor. Cause of problem unknown.

When coming to complete stop brake pedal jumps up and down and abs motor runs, happens almost regular now.

For the last week the abs is kicking in when stopping on dry pavement.abs increases stopping distance, kicks in at speeds of 12 mph down to 5 mph.lately the abs light is on.when abs light is on, abs does not kick in.i do not feel that i should pay the repair facility $70.00 to diagnose a problem that i know to already exist.i am going to disable the abs in my vehicle.

Appears braking system isn't functioning properly at a higher rate of speed.

Brakes failedwhen driving up hill on wet pavement resulting in vehicle accident.

When road conditions are wet, the rear brakes on my truck lock-up as the vehicle is coming to a stop.this is a dangerous condition, as it interferes with my ability to control the vehicle during wet conditions.additionally, when i accelarate from the stop, the rear breaks release with a loud clunking sound.the problem has occurred in the past after going through a car wash, however, the problem did not persist since the wheather conditions at those times were dry.in the last incident, however, the problem persisted since the wheather was rainy and the roads were wet. I am very concerned regarding this problem.

When applying brakes there is a clicking sound, pedal goes almost to floor, there is braking action, and increased braking distance.dealer cannot remedy problem.

My anti-lock brakes on my 1998 chevrolet silverado start to go into the anti-lock mode on dry pavement at slow speeds.this started on its own last january.i thought it was because of driving on winter roads in wisconsin, being snow covered and sometimes icy.however, this condition has continued through the spring, summer, and now fall.in fact, it is getting worse.it makes me feel like i won't be able to stop in time and maybe cause an accident.i'm waiting to see what gm is going to do regarding a recall that is in effect for this very problem in 14 states.wisconsin is not included in this recall, but they should be.we are certainly in the "salt-belt."and the recall should go back to 1996 because the anti-lock braking mechanism is similar from 1996-2002.

When driving at speed below 40 mph the abs system is kicking in and locking the brakes up.front brakerotors sometimes haung up/overheated and the consumer smelled the brakes burning.whenconsumer turned the key off, front brakes unlocked. Vehicle has been in repairshop five times for the brakes and the abs system.dealer couln't determine thecause.

Dt: on the driver's side the front tire, rim, brakes, and hub fell off the car. The police said they had seen other vehicles where the same thing happened.

Vehicle vibrates intermittently while driving, vibration is more severe under braking conditions but noticeable when just cruising, this vibration causes the rear end to bounce thus resulting in the abs to activate and extended stopping distance. *et

Brakes do not work correctly each time brake pedal is applied.

Braking power isinsufficient, resulting in excessive rotor wear, andextended stopping distance. Also;when the brakes are appliedrear wheels lock up, causing the abs system to activate prematurely. Dealer has inspectedvehicle, and has not been able to duplicate the problem.

The contact owns a 1998 chevrolet silverado 1500. While replacing the engine oil, the contact noticed a large, unusual oil leak from the front drivers side. The vehicle was taken to a local repair facility where the abs module as found to be defective and the brake lines were corroded. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The failure and the current mileages were 67,000.

Anti-lock brakes- they are activating at low speeds making stopping distance much longer, they also activate when hitting bumps in the road. During ran and snowy time they are activating almost constantly. Can't afford the cost to replace.

While braking vehicle pulsated, and the abs brakes engaged. Dealership repaired the problem four times, but problem recurred. When applying the brakes at low speeds on dry pavement the abs kicked in.the dealer has replaced the front speed sensor four times but the problem recurs.

Consumer states upon depressing the brake pedal the rear brakes locked up, causing thevehicle to go into a skid.also, problem is bad when traveling on pavement.

My 1998 chevrolet truck is having the symtoms described in the recall for the 1999 thru 2002 recall due to corrosion affecting the antilock brakes.recently my wife attempted to stop at a stop sign at a slow rate of speed (under 10 mph) and the brakes pulsed and groaned and she was unable to stop before the intersection.i am concerned that gm did not include 1998 as the braking system is virtually the same as the years recalled.

Dt*:the contact stated while pulling into a parking lot or when stopping for a stop sign/light at less than 5 mph the abs activated.the activation occurred gradually and continued to become worse.when the vehicle was taken in for routine maintenance at an independent repair shop the wheel speed sensor was determined to cause the unwanted activation.there were no repairs made.updated 3/9/2006 -

Abs activation at speed of less than 10mph on dry pavement when there is no wheel skid. I am concerned that this may be the same problem as is being investigated on 1999-2002 gm pick ups.

Brake pedal would go to the floor when the abs brakes are applied. This would cause an extended stopping distance. An intermittent problem. Sometimes there are no brakes. Has been to dealer numerous times for the problem, but each time the mechanic could not locate problem.

Braking problems.

Abs activation at slow speeds in traffic and at frequent stops, activation of abs started around 07/2005. Serviced parts included new rotors and pads, rear drums and pad shoes, abs modulator, and master cylinder. Vehicle still has same noted problem.

Battery acid ate through the brake line, causing the consumer not to have any brakes.the acid traveled downward to a plastic pan.the design of the pan allowed acid to drip directly onto the brake line.

There is no direct cable to the carburetor system. Also, without the computer inputpedal doesn't release uintil consumer turnsvehicle off. Dealership is aware of the problem.

Brakes stop at random. Sometimes they go half way to the floor, other times the pedal goes all the way to the floor.dealer was contacted and the vehicle has been repaired eight times .

When traveling about 30-35 mph and upon making a sudden stop on dry pavementthe brake pedal went to the floorboard, causing extended stopping distance, andresulting in an accident. Consumer has contacted the dealer, dealer has yet to replace any parts, unable to determine the cause. Please provide any further details.

Anti-lock brakes activate on dry pavement at a slow, gradual stop... 75% of time.

My anti-lock brakes began activating occasionally, then it became nearly everytime i use the brakes.i have had the brakes inspected and cleaned by mechanics who say they have fixed the problem.it always returns within minutes of leaving the shop.this began to happen in feb. Of 2004.i have a 1998 silverado 1500 4x4 with front ant-ilock brakes. After seeing multiple recalls on chevy 1500 trucks, i wonder if mine has a 1999 system on it and it has been overlooked by the dealership?

While driving at low speed on dry pavement anti lock brakes will kick in,as if vehicle is driven on icy or snowy roads. Had to pump on brake pad.had vehicle serviced, but problem reoccurred.

I noticed in an edition of the minneapolis star-tribune and noticed the recall of the 1999-2002 model years of the chevrolet silverado pick-ups with the anti-lock brake system with the abs engaging at speeds of 4 to 11 mph and have been experiencing the same problem with my 1998 chevrolet silverado pick-up truck.would my truck be eligible for this recall or not??

The anti-lock brakes engage often when braking.i saw an article in our mpls. Star tribune newspaper which someone wrote in with a similar problem, same year vehicle, and said we should contact you for investigation.the brakes basically engage even on dry pavement, moving at slow speeds.we think that these brakes should only be engaging when you are having to stop suddenly and are concerned this may be more of a problem later on.we do have approx 120,000 miles on the vehicle but this has been a problem for a long time now.we were told by a mechanic that his pickup does the same thing and this year is noted for that problem.no need to fix it.i just wanted you to be aware of something we are seeing that we feel is not quite right.

While driving vehicle about 55 mph consumer front brakes do not release, and the component on the abs kelsey heyes gets too hot and consumer cannot hold on. When brakes get hot they make noise like grinding metal to metal.manufacturer and dealer were contacted.

Brakes had felt spongy for several months. Had the problem checked out three months ago, nothing found - brakes failed completely while driving, pedal went to floor , and vehicle slowed eventually. So there was no accident. Dealer replaced master cylinder at no cost (still under warranty).

There was not incident yet, but the front abs cycles when the vehicle is slowing below 5 mph and is sometimes difficult to stop.

Abs brakes on my truck engage at low speeds, making stopping difficult. Gm has issued a recall for this problem for 1999-2002 trucks, but mine is a 1998. I called gm to verify the recall and was told that i did not qualify because my truck was a '98 and not a '99problem has been happening for several months and almost every time i am at a slow speed. The recall needs to be expanded.

While driving at any speed and applying the brakes, they went to the floorboard and vehicle kept going. Then traveling for a short distance the vehicle came to a stop. Contacted the dealer for repairs, and dealer said there wasn't anything wrong with the vehicle. But consumer stated that dealer took the vehicle in for repairs three times beore, and the promblem still exists.

While driving consumer stepped on brakes and without warning brake pedal went to the floor, resulting in vehicle not stopping. The cause for the brake to go to the floor was determined to be a faulty master cylinder, also the front brake rotors were out of round, and the rear brakes were not hitting drums all the way.

Dt: the consumer stated that onhis 1998 chevrolet 1500the brake booster failed.this was the second time that this happened. The first time the vehicle was under warranty at 46,000 miles. The second time the mileage was 75,621 miles.the second time the consumer had to pay for the booster. The consumer has taken the problem to the dealership both times for repairs. The dealership did trouble shooting and found the booster failed. The consumer has not contacted gm about the problem.

Intermittently vehicle would jerk at various speeds.consumer stated that the steering wheel jerks at intermittent intervals. This causes consumer to over steer or over correct. Dealer installed e.v.o sensor and this sensor also failed causing the same problem over again.

Loss of steering ability.

Steering wheel feels slippery & would jerk or pull to the right or left onits own. Took to dealer & had replaced the old sensor with a new evo sensor in the steering column.problem is intermittent & could not be duplicated.

1998 chevy 4x4 silverado-- steering problem--- best described as running over marbles, as steering disappears for a second. It happens frequently in all positions and speeds. When this sudden loss of steering happens, you loose control for that split second. Was told by a certified gm mechanic that it is a common problem for that truck and a very costly repair. It just a matter of time before someone is hurt or killed by this problem.

Ea99011; the steering system malfunctioned while driving which may cause a loss of vehicle control and result ina crash.please provide further information.

Intermittent problems. After a turn/acceleration, steering wheel seemed like some one was holding it.

Steering feels loose when consumer is making a turn, dealer told him thatproblem is the evo sensor. Consumer states the steering tension is tight except when going intoturns at 25mph, the steering goes loose and has a feeling of less tension and there is a possibility of over steering, consumer feels that since chevrolet is aware of this problem that this problem should be replaced with new updated equipment.

Steering bumps to left or the right due to a sensor going bad in the steering column.

Steering wheel would on any unexpected time, suddenly and abruptly, pull to the left or right when going into a curve in the road. Consumertook vehicle to the dealership, and the mechanic told him that they replaced the power steering pressure sensor, and he needs to have it doneagain.

Faulty evo sensors caused the wheel to jerk to one side while driving 60 mph.thedealer has been notified. *nlm

One can be driving perfectly straight or turning a curve.the speed does not matter.failure of the evo sensor causes the wheel to be jerked to one side with no warning.this is a very dangerous condition which could result in injury or death for someone not expecting the sudden movement or for a individual lacking sufficient strength/response time.

When drivingunder normal road conditions, the vehicle dangerously wanders either way when driver takes eyes off the road momentarily. The vehicle does not maintain the position on the road, unless driver's total focus is on the road. Dealer notifiedand informed the consumer that a special speed control module on the steering is suppose to be a new improvement, but endangers all those who drive this vehicle without taking their eyes off the road. This condition needs to be investtigated.

While making a turn, it is more diffculty on left turns becausesteering becomes too hard.dealer replaced parts on the steering system, however, problem still exists.please provide further information.

I continue to experience an intermittent loss of power steering when turning which feels like hitting a patch of ice while going around a turn. I have researched this problem and know that gm has issued a recall on other models but not mine.i have not yet replaced any of the steering components but will soon due to the severity of the situation.it's unfortunate that an obvious defect is not currently under recall.

Vehicle veers suddenly right or left during turns. Owner relpaced evo sensor andcorrected the problem. I have been having power steering problems with my 1998 chevrolet silverado c1500 pickup since 2001.it will suddenly oversteer with the slightest movement of the steering wheel, and has nearly caused me serious problems at speed.it does not do it constantly, but occurs more or less several times a day down to once every two or three days.when i asked the service department at the chevy dealership in alamogordo, nm about it i was told "they all do that - don't worry about it."when i was concerned about an increase in the phenomenon i contacted the service department at jones chevrolet in sumter, sc, and was told that "they all do it," but there was a manufacturer's recall or notice of some sort, and to bring it in.when i brought it in, the service advisor said that the individual i spoke with was mistaken but refused to elaborate, and that it was not a safety issue.i disagree, and i believe it is a problem across the gm spectrum, as eveidenced by the recall regarding power steering issues identical to mine earlier this year.i have emailed gm's customer site without response, and i am now of the opinion that it will not be acknowledged by gm without some sort of stimulus.as i stated, the problems began in 2001, and continue to the present.

The steering momentarily "locks up" then releases while completing slow speed right turns.

While driving at most any speed and making a slight right hand turn, the power steering will hesitate then jerk to the right, requiring the driver to sometimes over compensate the steering to to left.at this time the problem hasn't been bad enough to cause an accident, but is getting worse.this has happened hundreds of times over the past year.i haven't fixed the problem since i can't afford the repair cost.

I own a 98 chevy pick up, as well as a 96 gmc suburban, and have had numerous problems with the power steering on both vehicles.the pick up has been exceptionally bad with the "harder" left turns, and the "overly" easy right turns, or jerks.travelling on the highway with either vehicle, if you adjust the steering for a crosswind, they will fight going left (this is not constant, which makes it worse as it is unexpected) and launch to the right with the slightest touch (also not constant).i believe that these vehicles could easily be included in the recall.i had spoken with a local dealer after hearing of a power steering related recall pending (in october 2003) and was assured no such thing was going on, and my vehicles would not be involved anyway.i have shown jan. 10th 2004 as an incident date, as the form could not be completed without that information.this has however been a problem on and off since purchasing the truck (new in july 98) and the suburban (used in jan. 99)also, since purchasing the 96 suburban, i have had to replace the lower (mounted on bottom of pump) power steering line twice, due to breakage and leaks, and i now have another (replaced same hose on pick-up) leak somewhere in the pick-ups power steering system (it has been too cold to wash the vehicle properly under the hood, so i can inspect hoses, but am fairly certain it is once again the same hose)

I think tsb 86-32-06 should be in the form of a safety recall. No safety defect mentioned in summary.

Power steering is very erratic (over steering, stiff, and veers) at times when speeds are 50-60 mph. Mjs

Steering is difficult then normal causing over steering.while no accident has occurred over steering can result in a serious situation especially in poor driving conditions.

When making a left hand turn at low speeds vehicle temporarilylost power steering.dealerships mechanicwas notified, but did not resolve the problem.

We are a used auto dealer in north carolina. We sell several chevrolet trucks; mainly 4wd pick-ups, tahoes and suburbans we have in the last three years replacedsteering speed control units, not sure of exact part name. The problem we have noticed is at between 20 to 40 mph in a curve usually to the left the and keeping constant and consistant pressure on the steering wheel the vehicle will abruptly turn deeper into the curve. We have replaced several of these units at our expense both for vehicles in inventory and previously sold vehicles. When the steering input pressure changes that rapidly an unsuspecting driver is forced from his lane of traffic. The dealers in our area are very aware of this problem and have plenty of replacement parts in stock. To my knowledge this is affecting 1997 and 1998 models.

Dealer contacted on vibration around 42 mph. Told problem was frame beaming and that gm was aware of problem but do not plan to engineer a fix. Causes truck to bounce in the 42 - 44 mph range.

Problem with steering, feels like loose wheel, like hitting ice on roadway, but no ice . Replaced idler arm assembly. Better for awhile but still jerks.

Misadjustment of the idler arm causing vehicle to pull.

Left front tie rod broke, causing collision/ damage.

3rd door on all 1998 chevrolet extended cabs klunks every now and again, even ehen going over little bumps in the road and around corners at normal driving speeds. Also plastic housing on the driver's side b-pillar around rear-side pop out window constantly makes noise/rattles because of platic shrinking and expanding due toheat/cold.

Vehicle was brought and requested dealer to put on a flat bed on vehicle. The flat bed dealer installed it,causing the weight of the vehicle to hit the top of rear tire. Consumer notified dealer, and was informed that consumer would have to payadditional money to correct the problem.

When driving vehicle at various speeds, vehicle would shake. Driving at 60mph or above vehicle shakes/vibrates uncontrollably. Driver still had control. Took to dealership & informed it's a manufacturer's defect. Was advised to put sand bags in rear of vehicle to prevent uncontrollable shaking.

During bbb abritration hearing a chevrolet representative sdmitted that there is a known vibration problem with these vehicles and was unwilling to repair since the vehicle was opperating with in "specs" asked to see specs. None available.

Vehicle vibrates intermittently while driving, vibration is more severe under braking conditions but noticeable when just cruising, this vibration causes the rear end to bounce thus resulting in the abs to activate and extended stopping distance. *et

The vehicle was taken to the dealer on 11/18/02 who determined that the front driver's side hub was bad, and replaced the hub at no cost. The vehicle was taken back to dealership on 06/26/06 because the abs in the front began having problems again. The dealer determined that both hubs were defective and declined to repair the problem at no charge.the vehicle was instead taken to another independent auto shop who decided to replace both front hubs with better quality parts.

In february of 2002 the right front tire was replaced for radial pull. On sunday 6/2 the left front tire was replace for tire separation. On wednesday 6/5 both rear tires failed due to tire separation at different times. The milage for four failures was approximately 18,000 plus or minus 250 miles. I am the original owner of the van and the tires were original equipment. I believe that four different tire failures on the same vehicle indicates a serious quality control issue with all the tires from that manufacturing lot.

Vehicle was parked in driveway and noticed markings on the lower a frame.also, noticed rubbed marks on the inner tire.contacted the dealer to have it serviced. If turning right, left tire would be coming inwards. But instead of stopping at a certain point it keeps rubbing the frame.

When you let up on the accelerator it takes 3-4 seconds before the vehicle starts to slow down from engine compression.

While traveling in vehicle at 50-60mph,the engine had revved up from 1600 to 2200 rpms. This has happened 3 different times. Took vehicle to dealer. Was test driven & nothing found. Vehicle put on diagnostic machine & nothing showed up.

The engine does not slow down when the drivers foot is removed from the gas pedal. The engine actually speeds up slightly, stays at about 2000 rpm and after about 8 to 10 seconds, it goes back to normal idle speed. The only way to slow the truck is to push in the clutch and apply the brake, this is very irritating and dangerous, especially in city type traffic. This was reported when the truck was new. It has been back to the dealer 3 times with no improvement. The dealer says we have to contact gm to get a new computer program written. Gm says we have to go back to the dealer. We are getting nowhere. The dealer agrees there is a problem that could be a safety hazard and that other customers have reported the same problem. Last service report from dealer says "owner reports that when foot off gas vehicle doesn't slow down. Test drive confirmed concern. Cause to be normal iac (idle air control) throttle follow routine. This is normal operation and no fix is available". I find it hard to believe that the dealer cannot get gm to issue a computer reprogram for this problem. The dealer wants us to go to gm to get them to assign an engineer to write a new computer program. We called gm but no help yet. I think others must have the same problem and this problem should be a recall.

When letting foot off the gas pedal at any speed the truck continues to keep the speed for an excessive amount of time as if on cruise control, and won't slow down until the brakes are applied. Dealer says it's normal.

While driving up a hill engine hesitated. Consumer depressed gas pedal to gain speed andengine stalled.

While driving vehicle about 20 mphbrake pads did not work properly. When applied brake pedal the vehicle started pulling to either side (left of right). The other safety probleminvolved the throttle sticking when traveling between speeds 10-25 mphresulting in the vehicle operating as if the cruise control was engaged.
