I have had a dangerous situation occur with a failure in the fuel injection system, involving the wiring harness and vehicle control module (vcm) of my 1997 chevrolet k1500. The vehicle was towed into a chevrolet dealer, for service due to a crank but no-start issue on january 29, 2004.upon diagnosis by the mechanics, they determined that the fuel injection system had somehow developed a leak, which caused fuel pressure to build-up where the wiring-harness entered the unit.then, fuel was forced at high pressure between the wires and insulation until it pooled up inside the vcm. The dealer's mechanic, per diagnostic testing, stated that the installation of a new vcm, wiring harness, and injector system is necessary to fix the problem.i consulted with a different gm mechanic from another dealership about this problem and he said i was lucky it did not explode, and recommended that i contact gm owners assistance about this matter, however they were of no help and would not recognize the danger of this situation.this is an extreme safety hazard that could have caused a damaging engine fire and possible injury or worse.therefore, i am requesting that a recall would be placed on this problem to prevent possible injury to others.

Windshield wiper defect:windshield wipers fail to operate correctly, or at all, during adverse weather conditions.this equipment failure puts a driver and all passengers at risk of harm due to inhibited visibility.have had to suddenly change lanes on highway during heavy rain, pull off, stand on edge of door trim with traffic driving by, and push the wipers manually up and down to get them working again.sometimes i will have to open the hood of the truck, push the fuse tight, push the wipers to start them, and then go.our 1996 chevy suburban was recalled due to a windshield wiper defect, they have worked fine since the windshield wiper component was replaced..i have contacted our local chevy dealership twice to have the windshield wiper defect repaired on the 1997 c1500 truck.since the previous owner did not do it while it was under warranty, and the vin number on the truck does not fall under the recall ( the service manager pulled up the recall and checked the vin number of our truck against the numbers on their list on 08/06/2011 at 12:20 p.m.), they will not replace it.this is because, as it is now not under warranty, they would not be reimbursed by gm, regardless of my reminding them that not replacing it remains a safety risk to the owner of the vehicle.this has began in 2001.since our son is going to get his license, and would like to have the truck, i would like to ensure his vehicle is a safe one.if i had known where to file a complaint regarding this matter, i would have done this 8 years ago.the dealer told me there was nothing they could do, except replace the part.

We are currently having our 4th fuel pump placed in our truck, this time after it died on the interstate. I got the truck in 2011 and when the title came in the mail it had a note that the truck had been a dealer lemon law buyback. My problem now is the check engine light is on. I called chevrolet for some assistance and was told to have a chevrolet dealer diagnose the problem. The dealer wanted to replace most of the check engine related parts and sensors at a cost to me of about $4000.00. I think that i am being over sold. I paid the $85.00 and had 2 othertest and 2 different diagnose cost from $1500 to change injectors. Another.gm recall but mileage problem. Chevrolet declined any help. I think if it was a lemon there must have had a big problem. I would like to keep the truck it still looks good. Also the wipers don't work at times there was a recall on them but age and miles may be a problem. I could use some help. Thank you.

Coolant leak coming from under the intake manifold.
The contact owns a 1997 chevrolet silverado 1500. The contact stated that the radiator, transmission, water pump and intake manifold gasket were replaced because of the dexcol anti-freeze the dealer used in the vehicle. The contact was told by the manufacturer that the anti-freeze was not compatible with the vehicle and that there had been issues with using the dexcol anti-freeze with their vehicles in the past. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage was 75,900.
Rusty plugged cooling system.
The contact owns a 1997 chevrolet k1500 which was obtained in 2005. He stated that the coolant continued to leak excessively from the vehicle. The dealer replaced the water pump; however, the coolant continued to leak. The dealer replaced the pressure nipple which did not correct the failure. No repairs were made to correct the failure. The current and failure mileages were under 117,100.

The hose from the engine to the engine oil cooler sprung a leak or burst, spraying oil all over under the hood and under the pick-up.this is the 4th time that these hoses have leaked or burst.this time it resulted in a seized engine which required a great deal of effort to turn the steering wheel and required a great deal of force to get the brakes to work at all.these hoses were supposed to have been both replaced 2 months ago.they then leaked and before i could get the vehicle back to the dealer, one hose broke, spraying oil all over.the hose was supposed to have been replaced again, but broke again resulting in a fire hazard with the amount of engine oil that sprayed all over under the hood.the hose was replaced again.i picked up the vehicle on may 13 and the hose broke again on may 20, resulting in the loss of braking and steering and causing the motor to seize.another person with the same type of vehicle in a neighboring town reported that his chevrolet pick-up had the same problem with the hose breaking the first time and then breaking again which caused the motor to seize.the tow truck operator told me mine was the second pick-up like mine that he had to haul from my town to get repaired for the same problem.he said he hauled that pick-up to the same dealer that i had mine hauled to.when my pick-up was hauled in last week, the shop foreman, troy, pointed out another pick-up like mine and said that one had the same problem.

I have owned the vehicle 3 weeks.on monday august 6th, the vehicle stalled on a street in a commercial area.i was able to coast to a parking space.the engine restarted and i drove the vehicle ca. 50 yards before another failure, when i coasted to a stop sign.the vehicle did not restart, and i was towed to my home.on wednesday augus 8th, the vehicle stalled 3x at a discount store parking lot, and finally stalled at work on the same day.the mechanic said that this was the pmd on the chevy 6.5l diesel engine, and was a common failure.this is a real hazard, as the vehicle does not always restart, and were i going down the hiway (expecially with a trailer), i would have lost accelleration power steering and power brakes.this could easily cost someone their lives.
My 1997 z71 kept dying while i was driving down the road. I talkedto a mechanic and he said it sounded like the fuel pump. So i go to change the fuel pump and the fuel pump sending unit had shorted. The power wire and connections were melted. I had to replace the pump and assembly in the tank. Cost me over $700.00 plus labor.i was told i was lucky it didn't explode.
My 16 yr. Old son purchased a 1997 chevy k1500/silverado w/ 5.7liter gas engine; 160k+ miles.previous owner explained the truck was on its third fuel pump.sure enough, the fuel pump failed on us also at 163,000 miles.fortunately it failed only 100 feet from home as he drove down our residential street.imagine the hazard potential had it died at highway speeds.towing and repairs totaled $800.a remanufactured pump (with 1 yr warranty) was installed plus a new fuel filter.the dying fuel pump shed debris that clogged the filter which starved the engine.a google search details how people have experienced problems with chevy fuel pumps in trucks ranging from 1991s to 2002s; perhaps newer if i searched longer.i can ill afford to replace a fuel pump like that again.with the history of fuel pump failures well documented (ref: google search), why hasn't chevy engineered a fix years ago??
Vehicle stalled at highway speed.found defective fuel pump.upon removal of pump from fuel tank, found wiring on fuel pump sending unit burnt with insulation melted back approximately two inches from the switch.had this event occurred with a tank close to empty it may have resulted in an explosion and fire.
While replacing fuel pump, consumer noticed that three wires that went into gas tank melted down half way. Contacted dealer and the dealer was not willing to do anything. Pump, sender, strainer, fuel filter, fuel cam and dampener were replaced.
This truck was bought new in 1997 and i have owned it and maintained it in good running order since then. I was stopped at a light when the truck suddenly stopped running. After having it towed to my home and doing some trouble shooting i determined the fuel pump was not working. I removed the gas tank and after removing the fuel pump discovered the grey wire to the pump had the insulation burned off for approximatelyone and a half inches. This damage was on the inside of the gas tank. The plug that the wire goes through was charred and melted away. I have taken pictures of the assembly and damage and have notified gm of the incident. Iam amazed that this did not result in an explosion or a fire. Theheat generated to melt the wire and plug is extensive. The plug was melted to the point it exposed it internal wiring. I understand that most cars and trucks have this type of assembly installed. The assembly that holds the fuel pump is original equipment. I would be more than willing to share the photos or the assembly for failure analysis.
Intake manifold gasket failed. Searched web and found this is very common problem, yet no recall. I'm out $700 and gm says it is not a design flaw?

The feul pump went out, first time at 61013 miles, was relaced with 200 dollar deductable. Then went out again at75860 miles, but this time they said also the sending unit.that holds the pumpwent out. They showed me burnt wires on this part, so sence it wasntonly the pump ,cost me another 200 deducted instead of getting replaced at no charge.i've read others have had same problems as i,and feel that something needs to be done about this before it does cause a fire and fatalitys.dt
Excessive fuel pump noise, audible from closed cab location
The pickup's idle would vary from full throttle to barely stay running while in park. Would also go into full throttle while driving, then attempt to die. Took to a mechanic, changed the full filter, still didn't correct the problem; he put it on the computer for analysis showed it was the throttle sensor, that was replaced and it still does it.

Wire plug-in on top of fuel pump overheated and melted plug-in and coating off wire going down in fuel tank 3" or 4", and didn't blow a fuse. Could cause an explosion or fire.
Truck was running fine with no indication of trouble when parked, upon reentry truck did not even attempt to start, engine would turn spin freely.towed to shop. Fuel pump supposedly failed according to independent repair shop and was replaced with 46,000 miles on truck. Truck drove less than 500 miles and failed to start with seemingly the same problem. Towed to cheverolet dealership for repairs. Fuel pump sending unit connection inside the tank was burned out. Service manager said this was a common failure for all cheverolet trucks with vortec engines. He returned the defective sending unit to me and i could plainly see the burned electrical connection at the top of the unit.under the right conditions an explosion would be possible if sufficient oxygen was in the tank. Fuel pump and component parts should last longer than 46,000 miles.
Vehcile kept stalling onhighway.electrical wiring in fuel pumpcausedpump to go bad. If ignited, it could have caused a fire. Fuel pump was replaced.
Intermitent operation of fuel pump located in fuel tank. Removal of fuel level sending unit and fuel pump assembly revealed a burnt connector and melted wire insulation, resulting in poor continuity to fuel pump. Vehicle would crank but not always start. Vehicle would also stall while driving with no warning.
The power supply connector to fuel pump inside the fuel tank at upper end of pickup/fuel pump support tubes burned hot enough to soften the copper connector causing it to open up and shut off fuel pump causing engine to stop running. Approximately 2 inches of wire insulation was melted off at the top connector end. This is inside the fuel tank surrounded by fumes and fuel. If air was introduced there would have been an explosion. This is the factory installed fuel pump and fuse did not blow even though the wire was exposed and near metal components. I've owned the truck since new. Richardson brothers chevrolet in floresville, texas and other auto part dealers informed me that this is very common and have seen worse damage to wiring. The dealer wanted over $400.00 for the parts which include new pickuptubes with fuel level float and fuel pump. I'm a quality control inspector for aircraft and this would have grounded the entire series of that particular aircraft. (twa flight 800).
Wires in fuel pump inside gas tank overheated to the point that plastic parts melted.we feel that this could be a major fire risk because the whole assembly is inside the tank.
While driving 20 mph engine stalled. Vehicle towed to dealer and they thereplaced fuel pump module assembly.*yd
Over the past 5 years and 80,000 miles of owning this vehicle the fuel pump has died on me 5 times.all 5 times the pump was replaced with ac delco parts from gm.the last two times it went out i had it replaced by a chevy dealer in tampa.the second to the last failure caused a domino effect that ended up being very costly to me.fragments from the pump traveled to the filter, somehow made it past the filter and ruined the fuel pressure regulator.fragments from that traveled further along and destroyed the throttle body metering valve and all 8 fuel injectors.after having all this work done, the last fuel pump only worked for about 6 months before it went out again.this time it luckily did not ruin the above mentioned items.there is obviously a problem with the gm part being defective, and it's not something the consumer should have to put up with as routine maintenance.i've never let the tank get below 1/3 full because i know it can damage the pump below 1/4 full.the pump fails without warning and has caused a danger to myself as well as other drivers on the road.

Shortly aftet warranty had expired fuel pump went out.service personnel mentiond problems with fuel pumps that if tank was ran empty pump would overheat andfail.suggested that we not let fuel tank get below 1/4 tank as to keep pump cooled.
On 7/9/02the truck would not start. Had it towed to the shop. It was found that the wires that attatch to the fuel pump, which is inside the gas tank, were shorted out. There is visible melting and corroding of the connectors. Considering that the whole device, plus the wiring is inside the fuel tank, and since there was a short in the wiring, there could have been a serious fire or explosion. This truck was a bomb waiting to blow up. Upon searching the internet, i have found many, many complaints regarding the gm fuel pumps failing and the wiring shorting out. No one has had any luck getting gm to recall the pumps, and since we just spent almost $500 for the repair, i thought i would inform you of this serious risk of injury. Gm should be concerned with this flaw, and i was told that they are aware of the problem.
The wire inside the fuel pump shorted out, leaving an exposed wire inside the fuel tank.dealer is inspecting the vehicle.
While driving engine stopped and would not start. Had to be towed, mechanic said it was the fuel pump filter sending unit. Fuel pump was notrunning, and wires in the tank were getting hot and melting whick could cause an explosion.
The contact owns a 1997 chevrolet silverado 1500.the contact attempted to start his vehicle, but was unsuccessful.the vehicle was towed to a mechanic and the contact was informed that the fuel pump failed and burned off the wires inside the gas tank.the current mileage was 53,462 and failure mileage was 53,445.updated 06/03/08.*ljupdated 05/30/08
Reported to the dealer that the fuel pump was excessively noisy at 8957 miles.notified that this was normal.at 46395 the fuel pump died.dealer should have replaced when first reported.
Defective fuel pump malfunctioned, causing vehicle to stall which could have caused a crash.dealer replaced the fuel pump at consumer's cost.please provide further information.
I would like to make this complaint very clear and to the point.i have been viewing the complaints located on your website and feel that there is a significant pupose for recalling these vehicles.i purchased a 1997 chevy k20 approx 1 1/2 years ago.everything seemed to work fine until a few months later.i started to experience some steering problems.it does not matter if i am driving around a corner or straight but the steering will become very loose and veer into one direction all on its own.that is just one of the significant problems i have experienced with owning this vehicle.i now have come to find that there is even a greater threat to my safety and that of my family because i have now been informed that my fuel gauge and fuel pump wires, inside the gas tank, melted insulation and burnt the connector.this could have been a deadly experience for myself and that of anyone that could have been in the vehicle with me if it would have caught fire prior to my knowledge of this information.i feel that the first sign of this problem is that the gas gauge will start to malfunction, which leaves you guessing at the amount of gas in the tank.i feel this matter needs immediate attention due to the fact that owners/drivers of vehicles are required to carry auto insurance, however, this is something that none of us has any controll over.if we wait until someone becomes involved in an accident, that would seem senseless that possibly someones life would have to end before this situation be taken seriously.i have to demand that some action be taken before it is too late for someone.
Reporting seal around fuel pump fail and causing a fuel leakages; dealer / mfr's notified and informed that part was not cover under a recalls and any repairs would be at consumer cost. Please provide any further details:
The steering causes the truck to swerve out of driving lane. The fuel pump shut off in the middle of the hwy. With no warning. The windshield wiper motor would work intermitantly when ever it felt like, this same wiper motor is used on gmc trucks and has been recalled why hasn't it be rcalled on chevrolet trucks, it's the exact same part #. Engine cooling lines leaked at oil cooler, dealer banner chevrolet changed oil pan gasket , rear oil crank seal and then oil pan gasket again to no avail, brought to bryan chevrolet which is another dealer and they fixed the leak turned out to be o ring on oil cooler housing.
Main engine harness shorted out on ignition coil vehicle stalled inj stock open then melted and allowd gasoline to enter shorted wiring harness while under 50psi and enter engine controller p.c.m.
Truck has had continual problems with major components other than wear and tear.it is not used for normal driving conditions.no safety defect listed.
Fuel line is leaking from fuel injection, causing fuel to go through wire harness, and eat away at harness and then computer.
Fuel injectors failed. Mjs
Engine misses/hesitates due to bad injector.
Fuel line is leaking from fuel injection causing fuel go throught the wore harness and eat away harness then into the computer.then the engine died while driving down the road causing it to be hard to steer and control.possible engine fire and stall hazard.
Fuel injectors failed causing leakage onto engine wiring harness and engine components resulting in several component failures and replacements. Mjs

Fuel pump broke again on my 1997 chevy diesel pick up this will be the 4th pump on this vehicle since new.i had to pay for this one because i was told that it was not covered even though gm has had a known problem and covered the previous 3.so i don't understand why i had to pay$2400.00 to get this fixed.

1997 chevrolet ck1500, vehicle caught fire.the consumer stated he started to have problems with the transmission slipping and the engine revved high. As he was pulling over to the shoulder, smoke started coming from under the hood. Soon after, fire erupted under the hood. The consumer stated the transmission was re-built one week prior. I have same problem as the rest , only thing is ,there all at the same time, which is right now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Vehicle never been in a crash, never pulled a load, no tow hith on it, was driving down the highway, heard a weird vibration sound when it happenned, there are other reports of this year transmission failing around 50,000 miles. There is no reason that a transmission should fail on a truck that is not used for heavy use and when chevy says they are built like a rock, as long as you keep it for 36,000 miles when the factory warranty is up?i have the old part, i purchased th vehicle at 41,000 miles, low milleage as far as i am concerned, the gear sheared off , under normal driving conditions and i think it is a faulty part that the manufacturer is making and when replacing it with the same part it is just going to happen again. Totally senseless ! obviously there is a problem with this main gear assembly and something needs to be done about it. I have never had a problem with a transmission before and they should certainly last longer than 50,000 miles and g.m. Chevrolet should do something to resolve the problem and stand behind their advertising!!!
Transmission failed. *mjs
Consumer was traveling onhighway andtransmission went out without prior notice, and the vehicle had to be towed to the dealership. Transmisiion blew.
Transmission failed, had to be replaced at 20,000miles.
When parking, consumer put vehicle into reverse gear.the vehicle didn'treverse, the engine just accelerated. Consumer put vehicle into drive gear which resulted in vehicle making a clanking noise and hesitated to move forward.consumer had vehicle towed to the dealership who indicated that the automatic transmission had blown as a result of the reaction shell brusting. The dealership also indicated that this is a common problem with these model vehcile.please provide more details. Ts
Transmission went out onconsumer while they were driving.bearing splintered, causing metal pieces into transmission oil, the reaction carrier, overrunning clutch, clutch support, over clutch race, and torque converter all failed.left rear door panel bad, rattle in side door, rear side door repaired, right side doors trim panels become loose, door panles replaced, side door panel rattles.vehicle having electrical problems, rear tail lights not at same height, left window switch replaced, doors locked with keys in vehicle, interior lights come on while driving, battery failed five times, antitheft light on radio causing it not to work.air conditioner was blowing hot air and vent would not adjust from side to side.windows kept getting stuck.air bag light illuminated.power steering was noisy, dealer repaired power steering, power steering became noisy again.rear shoes were replaced.service engine soon light illuminated.
Transmission failure at 87,671 miles lost second gear, reverse gear and overdriveduedefective part installed that was not hardened steel as per specialty transmission that did the rebuild of my transmission.
The transmission failed. Yh
When driving at 60 mph to 65 mph, tranmissionslips and there is a loud knocking noise coming from the vehicle. Dealer can't determine the problem.
Traveling approximately 25 mph i began for an upcoming stop sign, two school buses were already stopped as i applied the brakes the peddle went quickly to the floor with little results, i was able to put the truck in low gear, turned onto the shoulder and with the emer. Brake and what little brake that was left i was able to get stopped safely. I would learn the welding on the upper shock bracket had failed allowing movement which allowed metal to rub against the brake line which runs past that area. The line failed with the lose of fluidand the brakes.repairs included replacing of the upper frt.susp control arm assy misc brackets and shelds and rewelding upper shock bracket. It also included replacement of the brake line.
I have had numerous problems with my chevrolet truck.at 31,000, miles the rear leaf springs went bad.at 41,000 miles the brake master cylender and pittman arm and idler arm assemblies needed to be replaced.being that it was over the warranty period, i did not take it to a cheverolet dealer incurring the cost myself.at 49,000 miles the rear u joint needed repair.at this point, i started to believe that there was more to this problem with the truck as these parts do not usually need repair at such low milage.to top it off, at 51,000 the transmission has failed.
1997 chevrolet c-1500 p/u auto transhas hard shift from 1st to 2nd gear. I have researched this and found a large number of g/m owners have experinced this defect and g/m has not or will notrecall or repair this problem.
Transmission failed @ 63k miles - very little towing - mostly city and highway driving. Replacement transmission had several problems and resulted in a 3rd transmission being installed. Concern is that 63k miles is not much for a transmission. Replacement transmission failed and according to multiple dealerships, this is a common problem. In addition to the failed transmissions, when the 1st replacement transmission was installed, 2 bolts that secure the crankshaft were not secured. They came loose while driving, and part of the crankshaft got bent and a zerk broke off. I'm trying to find out if this is a known problem and what recourse i have if it is. Seems to me that if it's a real problem with gm trucks, then i may be inline for some compensation.
The third door on the vehicle did not open, there was a tear in the seats, and the transmission was shifting late and hard, the transmission was eventually replaced at 56,000, consumer stated the transmission failed on the second vehicle at 126,000 miles.
Vehicle makes a clunking noise when shifting transmission from 2nd to 3rd gear. Replaced transmission and locking differential. However, noise continued. A new steel driveshaft was installed to replace the composite one. However, noise continued.was advised by dealer that this was a normal condition.
Automatic transmission failed on my 1997 chevy k1500 pickup.planetary sungear carrier broke.$2,000 to repair.this is a common failure for this model and design of transmission.
After coming to a stop after driving on freeway with transmission hot vehicle will slam hard into 2nd gear upon acceleration from initial stop.dealers are recommending transmission replacements and or expensive repairs. Numerous web sites show owners complaining about this as early as 40k miles. I have contacted gm but fail to acknowledge any problem even though they have a service bulletin out that states quote: "the condition may be caused by a slip-stick condition between the propeller shaft slip yoke and transfer case output shaft" corporate bulletin # 99-04-21-001 and i believe this to be the case with my and many others vehicles.
While driving 50 mph there was a loud screeching noise, lost transmission.had vehicle towed to aamco. Found a part inside transmissionwas faulty, sungear reaction shell. Consumer found out throughatra organization.
Truck was taken in many times to complain about transmission problems.only once out of first 3 times did they find the problem.transmission was replaced with a remanufactured transmission. On or about july 22 of 1998.now as vehilce is approaching 60,000 mile we are experiancing the same exact problem as we had first encountered with clunking and rough shifting.
Transmission failed due to no reverse gear.
I have a 1997 chevrolet silverado 1500 p/u with 115k miles.the transmission started to make a low roaring noise in low gear and would quiet down as it shifted to a higher gear.over time the noise got progressively louder and eventually made a clanging sound as i took off from a stop.the noise was louder than i've ever heard, so i drove the truck back home a parked it.i've told friends that i needed another transmission and the more i told the more i realized that there was of the same problems in other chevrolet trucks.this may be coincidence but it's to large of a scale that's costing many people lots of money. *nlm

Dealership very helpful with this and several other problems.seems to be a major problem with this transmission.look at the following web sitehttp://www.thecomplaintstation.com/g/gm_toc.htm.
Transmissionwent out while consumer was driving. Has not contacted dealer.
Consumer would stop vehicle and start again and transmsission would shift hard to second gear, consumer states it kicked, dealer stated that the problem was the shift actuator in the valve body assembly that's made of an alloy that does not expand/contract correctly within the assembly when hot.
When drivingwithoverdrive on consumer noticed that the overdrive switched to drive. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealership for inspection, andmechanicdetermined thattransmissionfailed.
The sun shell on my transmission broke taking out reverse 2nd and 4th gears. This is a common problem with gm transmissions. Its a 97 chevy 1500 z71 4x4.
Transmission began shifting very hard(jerking) from first to second gears and from second to third gear. When this occured the check enging light came on. Dealership told me theyiwould have to rebuild or replace the transmission. I had it replace at a cost of $2000.00 out of my pocket. I showed the dealership my maintenance records to verify the truck had been taken care of and asked for assistance and they refused. I contacted gm customer service and i was told by them "we help only those people who have their vehicles regular service done at dealerships". Meaning that since i did not have my oil changed at the dealership at a cost of approx $30.00 a pop verses half that cost for myself they refuse to help me. The purchase cost of $28,000.00 obvisouslynot enogh for gm. How "stupid" is this?look at the complaints on "the complaint station". Gm needs to recall & reinburse us. How do we know the replacement tranny(same as original equipment)won't fail again. Can't afford $2k every 61k miles.
A mark viii, while driving and pulling a trailer, transmission cooling unit line cracked, causing a transmission leak, spraying transmission fluid onto the exhaust manifold, resulting ina fire on the driver's side of the vehiclewhich burned the wiring harness.dealer repaired the wiring harness and replaced the transmission system.please provide further information.
Transmission is overheating, and the fluidleaksall overthe engine.when driving at any speedvehicle is shifting very hard.
Four wheel drive sticks, will not engage or disengage at times.
Steering speed sensor replaced to fix oversteer problem;abs regularly fail to keep wheels from locking up during emergency braking; electronic 4wd transfer case continues to stick in 4high for several minutes after disengaged with button.
I had a torque converter put in my 97 chevy z71.while the repaires were done, the repair shop broke my shift cable and i was charged for that.a $70 cable cost me $140.00.they broke it, not me.they should be respondsible for the cost or at least split the bill on that cable.

The dealership's service advisor at molle chevrolet (816) 229-8800, mark potter, said it would be 7-8 days to have my front differential repaired because they had 7 in line (for the same problem) ahead of mine!!!by the way, i have only had my 4-wd engaged on six or 7 occasions since i purchased it (new) in november of 1996.i have never "4-wheeled" it.i have only engaged 4-wd once in the mud.the other 5-6 times the 4-wd was engaged was in light snow (central missouri).gm needs to do a recall on this issue.

I was stopped for not wearing a seat belt. Seat belt stops are illegal. I am exempt because of a disability. Watch my video here, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qb2vetmmzt0.
The rear safety belt comfort guides are made of thin plastic and breaks very easily.
Ck1500 the seat belt sticks, you can not get it to release sometimes we have taken it in twice for this problem and will have to do so again this coming week. This is a serious safety hazard.
Seat belt does not come out all the way to snap shut as is required.dealer was contacted.
Seat belt retractor failed causing sticking and lock up.
The design of the passenger's seatbelt tightened too hard which caused small injuries to the passenger . The passenger cannot wear the seatbelt.
Front passenger seat belt will fully lock up when retracted from time to time--rendering seat belt inoperative.dealer will not fix unless a service technician sees the problem (sales person has seen the problem).gm will not authorize repair unless problem is consistent and readily duplicatable.this is a very serious concern for me--passengers are often not able to buckle-up without 5-10 minutes of fiddling with the restraint system before it will release.
There was and has been no accident or crash the driver's seat is loose just from day to day use.we bought this vehicle brand new and are the only owners it has ever had, and we need it repaired as it is a safety hazard to drive with the loose seat.

Front seats torn from lever.
Reclining mechanism on both front seats had suddenly broke loose and reclined backwards. Had lost visibility and control of vehicle whiendealer repaired the seats under warranty recall 99v130000.
On my 1997 chevrolet c1500 truck ,the passenger front seat is a slider in which it will slide forward to allow back seat entry. Many times after a slide forward it doesn't relatch to the aft locked position properly. So during braking the seat flys forward sending passenger into dashboard. This has happened many times and could possibly injure a passenger. Both seat rails on that seat have been replaced twice by the dealer, but continues to be a problem? *ln
Seat track failed due to wire being bent.
Seat track will not slide due to cable fasteners falling off.
The base of the driver's seat separated where the bolt screws into the seat frame, which caused the left front corner of the seat to break from the frame when customer sat down.
My truck has a 6 way power seat.when i reclined it while parked, it didn't lock in position when put back in the upright position.my wife says it did the same thing about a year ago, but she finally got it to lock; i could not.the mechanic at the dealership said he had never seen a failure like this until my truck, but that same day a 1997 gmc two wheel drive extended cab, made in arlington tx as was my truck, came in with the same failure.i had to put a wash basket between the driver's seat back and the rear seat or the seat back would drop all the way back against the rear seat.needless to say, you can't drive a vehicle like that.chevrolet refused to acknowledge a problem, but the deal did help by paying half the cost.the repair cost me $59.25 which is not the issue; a seat back failure should never occur during the lifetime of the vehicle, and on the driver's side, is a safety issue.
When applying brakes the driver's side seat moves backwards, and when driving over a bump, driver's seat moves forward.please provide further details.
My son [xxx] purchase this vehicle new from [xxx] in brandon ms in 1997 and i purchased it when he traded it in to danny berry chev. The reclining part of the seat on the drivers side will not adjust properly.i work for a body shop in hazlehurst ms and we have repaired and replaced several of these on chevrolet pickups. So i assume there should be a recall on this component since so many are breaking.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 1997 chevrolet silverado 1500. While driving at unknown speeds, the brake pedal was depressed, but the vehicle did not slow down or stop. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer and dealer were not contacted. The failure mileage was 351,000. The vin was unknown.
Main brake line that feeds the rear brakes failed on my truck while i was at a gm dealer parking lot. The brake line rotted away. Had the brake line broke a few minutes earlier i could have been killed while getting off of the interstate and not being able to stop! when this brake line burst i lost all stopping ability.
Noticed the brake light on the dash was on and flickering at times. Checked the fluid and notice it was very low. Topped off the fluid and notice spots under the truck. Checked closer and saw that fluid was leaking near the abs controller further investigation showed that the brake lines all had moderate to sever rust on them and this was causing the loss of fluid.
Abs malfunction.
While driving abs brake will engage without cause. The dealership indicated that their is a service bulletin for this problem but that would not fix the problem as a result of vehicle mileage.please provide more details.ts

Vehicle is a 1997 chevy k1500 pickupthe problem is that the abs brakes sometimes activate at low speeds, which definately causes it to take a couple extra feet to stop, which could be a problem since it typically happens when in stop and go traffic and you're already close to the car in front.the dealer gave me a tsb which describes the problem and says it is due to corrosion of the wheel hub.my mechanic tried to fix the problem, but the sensor on the passenger side was siezed in the hub, which likely means the entire hub will need to be replaced to fix the problem.for the time being, the abs system has been disabled, and the brakes are now functioning normally (but obviously without the anti-lock function).based on news reports, this is a very common problem which gm appears to be downplaying.this has prompted me to file this report so that my vehicle could be counted in the statistics.note that this was not a single event, so the "incident date" is approximately when the abs system was disabled.
When driving on completely dry pavement in summer weather, i applied brakes to stop at a stop sign. The abs engaged and extended my stopping distance greatly where i proceeded past the stop sign. This continued to happened when going 5-10 mph or less under dry pavement conditions. I inquired with a mechanic whom disengaged the abs connection at the wheel.

At speeds less than 5 mph, each time i apply the brakes to stop, the abs systems engages and the vehicle does not brake to an immediate halt.numerous times i barely avoided collisions with other vehicles and buildings.i understand that gm is aware of this or a similar problem on 1999 and later trucks and has issued a recall for a repair on some of these vehicles, but not all.after researching this problem i discovered that by removing the abs system fuse the abs does not engage and the vehicle will come to a stop upon application of the brakes.i have now removed the abs system fuse to disable the system.i now know that this is a very widespread problem that gm should stand behind or at least offer to disable the abs system (and the abs light) so the conventional brakes will function.
I have a 1997 chevy truck that continues to have brake failure. I see the recall is from 1999-2003 but am horrified that the problem is identical. I have replaced every part of my braking system and it still has the same problem. I can't stop!! my brakes are going to fail and i hope no one gets killed in the process. Gm needs to be held responsible for this problem. Thousands of complaints are on the web from the 1997 year truck!
1997 chevy silverado brake problem. At slow speeds the brake pedal travels to the floor during a sudden stop with greatly increased stopping distance required. This is a very dangerous and is apparently very common problem with owners of this vehicle.the following is copied from a post to this site which describes exactly the problem:"i have a 1997 chevrolet silverado truck. Over the last several months i have been experiencing random failure in the anti-lock brakes, they engage in situations where there is no reason to. Recently i viewed a report that your organization is investigating the same problem with 1999 - 2002 models, but the problem in that investigation exactly describes my problem. Since the problem is random, you cannot be prepared when you don't quite stop as fast as expected. My truck is in excellent condition and i cannot expect my son to be able to handle this situation as he is an in-experienced driver. I was going to schedule soon to have it fixed when i viewed the article about a potential recall. I am awaiting to hear your decision and hoping you include earlier models (1997) such as mine if there is a recall."i concur with the above statement entirely. If you search the internet for this same complaint, you will find a disturbing number of consumers who are facing this dangerous and potentially deadly flaw. The problem is far to common to be dismissed as anything other than a design flaw in the braking system of faulty components.the next person injured or killed by this vehicle may be someone you know and love.
The consumer had to apply the brake several times before getting the vehicleto stop.the dealer replaced the drums, rotors, pads, master cylinder and the brake line.

When the consumer attempted to apply the brakes, the pedal went to the floor and the vehicle pulled to the right on its own without warning.the consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle and drove it to the dealer.the mechanic informed the consumer that the brake pads needed replacement.please provided additional information.
An unnecessary activation of the abs, the same as described in nhtsa recall #05v379000, has occurred numerous times with my 1997 chevrolet k1500.i was unaware that this was a common problem, until recently.according to the majority of on-line, chevy owner forums i've read, this is not unusual in pre-1999 chevy trucks, yet recall #05v379000 doesn't cover them.in order to avoid a crash, i've disconnected the abs on my truck.this is clearly a safety issue that should be addressed.
When applying the abs brakes in any type of weather or speed, the pedal goes to the floor and the brakes fail to stop the vehicle. Ak

Had vehicle in for repairs, and dealer couldn't find any problem with the vehicle. Had new brakes and a master cylinder replaced, and the vehicle still does not stop whenapplying the brakes.
Abs brakes system engages at low speeds making it difficult to stop the vehicle. This was an ongoing problem that started in 2001 when i lived on east coast. It has been repaired but at my expense. The recall that is being issued should include vehicles in a broader range than only 1999-2002 as this 1997 has the same problem as the newer vehicles.

Abs brake problem:when applying the brakes under normal braking condtions the abs kicks, which makes the truck travel an additional 20 feet before stopping.this happens while traveling on a dry/ smooth road surface. Truck has been serviced 5 or 6 times for brake problems. Consumer still continues to experience brake problems.
While exiting a ramp in lexington, ky, the antilock braking system on my pick-up failed, resulting in my truck not being able to stop.this resulted in my truck entering on-coming traffic and caused an non-injury accident.my family was present in the vehicle, including my 3 year old son.the truck was able to make it home, and is preparing to be repaired.the braking system continues to mal-function without warning, reducing or eliminating the ability to stop the vehicle.the anti-lock system kicks in constantly, and when this happens, the truck will not immediately stop.
Abs brakes, when brakes where applied, pedal went nearly to the floor, abs grabbed for a second, vehicle continued to roll, pumped brakes, impact 12:00 position speed , 5mph.
Abs braking system comes on at all stops.this causes stops to be extremely long, and almost running into things.incident date is approximate, since issue began slow (~1 in 20 stops).number of failures is currently every stop.currently i have unplugged the abs drive motor to make it stop.mechanic says that this is common for my truck, and must remove the abs sensors and wipe the face clean of debris.

Problem was reported to the dealership.dealer could not duplicate the problem. Please provide any further information.
1997 chevy silverado k1500 z71. The anti-lock brake was preventing me from stopping at low speeds. They have recalled all the newer models to fix the defect, but not the older models. The only way to disable the anti-lock brake is to cut the anti-lock speed sensor for it. Anti-brake light comes on after.at least, i have brakes. I was involved in many accidents, fortunately, with no major injuries other than many bumper scratches and dents. To avoid hitting a car at stop, i had to run off the road intentionally many times. This truck could get people killed if they are not recalled.

The anti-lock brakes come on at 6 mph regardless of road conditions. This makes the truck harder to stop at low speeds because the brake pedal automatically pumps.
Antilock brakes engage at slow speeds needing further stopping distances. This problem has been happening for at least three years. I have called the dealer several times and checked for recalls on this defect. When i did find out they were recalling in other states i again called the dealer to complain. Now that there is a recall i find that my vehicle is not included.
In the past year i have noticed a hard braking situation at low speeds in which it felt like the anti- lock was kicking in even though it would be uncalled for. Today, i pulled up to a stop sign and i pushed on the pedal with all my might and still drifted into on coming traffic who luckily was able to maneuver around me since i ended up in their lane. My pads, fluid and rotors are all good. I will be taking it to a gm dealer tomorrow for this problem since it has been occurring regularly and now nearly caused an accident.

From everything i've read and researched, my 1997 chevrolet k1500 from minnesota has the corroded abs speed sensors.at low speeds when stopping the abs comes on even on dry pavement.this has cause me roll out into intersections unable to stop. The possible consequences of this defect could be catastrophic. 1997 k1500 chevrolet silverado kelsey hayes abs activates on dry pavement (no wheel slip) between 5-10 mph when brakes applied hard or softly. This leads to increased stopping distance unless brakes released and reapplied quickly. This has caused several near miss collisions with parked vehicles (no collision has yet occurred.) one front wheel speed sensor replaced by dealer on 9/2005 (part not available) this temporarily fixed the problem, but ~4 months later the problem began recurring. A second dealer stated this was a known problem (nhtsa campaign #05v379000) due to rust accumulating around front wheel speed sensors but no recall has been issued for 1997 model year. Vehicle has been owned and operated primarily in mn, sd, and ny.

No crash or damage or injury.just abs on a 1997 tahoe that have never worked properly.they engage at low speed braking, the vehicle slides and when they engage you can hear what sounds like a big spring engaging, weird sound.we had never driven a vehicle with abs so didn't know it was abnormal sounding and feeling but didn't like it and felt uncomfortable.i kept talking to people and they suggested i check out service notices/recalls.was glad to see a similar situation with the 1999 to 2002 but of course that doesn't cover my 1997.

Gmc still has a brake problem, the front brakes. They last about 6000 miles. I tried after market and now the dealer. The front rotors cost $350 ea plus labor and parts. This is ridiculous everty 6000 miles. The master cylinder rubber parts slowly leak and the anti lock system either makes the usual noise when the brakes lock up or other times the wheels skid. There is an obvious problem with the brakes. There is no posting atthe dealer and no notice by gm, but the dealers are aware of the problems. The rotors have a tendency to warp easy.
Uponapplying brakesleft rear wheels locked up on wet pavement. Also, front brakes overheated and there was a smell.

The master cylinders on 1997 chevrolet pickups leak brake fluid continuously at the top seal.the dealership called this "sweating".sweating is what humans do.master cylinders leak.every 1997 chevy truck i've looked at has this problem.gm needs to issue a recall notice to replace the defective seal or replace the entire master cylinder.how many people must die from brake failure before gm issues a recall notice?
I have had numerous problems with my chevrolet truck.at 31,000, miles the rear leaf springs went bad.at 41,000 miles the brake master cylender and pittman arm and idler arm assemblies needed to be replaced.being that it was over the warranty period, i did not take it to a cheverolet dealer incurring the cost myself.at 49,000 miles the rear u joint needed repair.at this point, i started to believe that there was more to this problem with the truck as these parts do not usually need repair at such low milage.to top it off, at 51,000 the transmission has failed.

How many people must die before gm issues a recall on defective steering speed sensors?this is a well-know problem in 1997 and 1998 chevrolet pickup trucks.the dealer calls this a 6.624 steering sensor failure; part number 26064468.this failure causes the vehicle to abruptly change lanes when cornering.i think it is deplorable for gm to ignore this problem as it is truely a life-threatening component failure.
Speed sensor insteering column is causingdirectional control ofvehicle to operate erratically at any given speed.
My steering in my 1997 chevrolet silverado is erratic. It is ultra easy at times and ultra difficult at others. There is no pattern to when it will suddenly jerk out of my hand. I have had to disconnect my steering sensor located on my steering column. There are multiple service bulletins out for this issue. The warranty period under which chevrolet would investigate the issue expired before i could take my vehicle to the local dealership, while i was in aghanistan. My vehicle no longer falls under the warranty period. My dealership where i purchased the vehicle did not notify my at any time of a recall/concern. I was unaware of any concerns until just recently.

At just about any speed, when steering to left or right, steering jerks.so far, hasn't caused an accident but have had a few close calls.will not let my wife drive this vehicle in fear of her safety and our son!problem started intermittently about 2 years ago and has progressively gotten worse.can't count the number of failures.it happens at least 2-3 times a day while driving.after talking with many other owners, i realized my situation was not unique. *nlm
When turning steering wheel it jumped, causing driver to lose control temporarily. Took vehicle to dealer and they put a pinion rod on, but that was not the problem.
When driving and entering a curve the power steering jerks to the direction of steer. This is said to be a problem with the steering position sensor causing the variable assist steering to over-compensate and causing the vehicle to veer dangerously.the forums are full of people with this problem that has plagued this system.

My 1997 chevy 1500 pickup has a steering problem that is very dangerous. The wheel will jerk to the right or left as your entering a turn causing the truck to cross the center line of the road. To date i have not been able to fix this problem. Mechanics offer suggestions ranging from the steering box to steering sensors. I have since found that this is not an isolated problem to this truck, many other owners of this same year model are reporting the same problem. I guess gm will wait until someone gets killed before they decide recall this year model and fix the problem.

The contact owns a 1997 chevrolet k1500. While driving only 35 to 45 mph the steering wheel acts asif it is going to lock and it only happens at those speeds. He was forcedto pull the steering wheel to the left and right; however, it the vehicle failed to drive in the desired direction. The dealer told him that they have repaired the ecm in the steering column for several chevrolet k1500 vehicles. The dealer gave the contact an estimate of $70 to replace the ecm; however, do not have the part since the vehicle is 12 years old. The vehicle will be repaired. The failure mileage was 36,000 and current mileage was 38,400. Updated 12/17/09 the consumer was told to unplug the connection to the steering pump to determine if the cause of the hard spot in the steering. The consumer did so and the condition stopped. The problem happened while making a turn at about 35-45 mph. The consumer would experience a hard spot and extra force was needed to turn the steering wheel. The dealership stated it was either the sending unit in the steering column or the power steering pump. Updated 12/21/09

I own a 1997 chevy pickup truck and have had several problems with my steering. The problem has been really hard to fix because it comes and goes and it does several different things. The first problem started about 1 1/2 to 2 years ago and i have not been able to resolve to problem yet. The problem is that when you go into a turn to the left, you can actually let go of the steering wheel and the wheel will not return to center. The truck will actually go around the turn by itself if you let go of the wheel. The second problem is that when you go into a turn it feels like the steering wheel has been pulled by something. The second problem is the one that has me concerned because at times it will over steer without you actually turning the steering wheel. I have two friends with the same year model and make of truck and all three trucks have the same problem. There has not been an accident at this time and i have talked with gm about the problem with no help from them what's so ever. I am not sure what it would take to get help with this problem other than a accident, possibly with a fatality. Really what i would like is for someone to just help with finding a fix without changing out part and hoping for a fix with no telling how many $$$$ later. At this time i have changed my steering box and the power steering pump without fixing the problem. I did change these out from a wrecked truck hoping to find the problem before going and buying a new part that i could not return. Up untill this point every thing that has been changed on this truck was factory gm parts. That includes normal wear parts such as brake pads, oil filters, brake rotors, altenators (3), windsheild wiper motors (before the recall), radiator tank, door pins and bushings, door handle, intake manifold leaking. I know all of that is not normal wear part but once i started i just could not hardly quit.

Going through a left hand curve at speeds between 30mph to 60mph i get a feeling of the steering wheel wanting to dive & a brief loss of control when going around a long sweeping curve.it happens on every long sweeping left hand curve. If you aren't ready for it you could lose control & hit an oncoming car head on. To correct the failure i will have to replace the sensor & i will keep the old part. From what i have read on the internet about these sensors is there have been many people that have had these issues & some that had them replaced up to 3 times in a couple of years. All agreed that it was a dangerous situation. The part involved is called the "power steering speed sensor" (variable assist power steering) & is located on the steering column. I understand that there are going to be parts that fail but there are no warnings that would let you know that this part is failing until it happens & it is a strange feeling. You don't actually lose control but it makes you feel like you do which could lead you to losing control. If the parts are failing as often as i have read about then something should be done to make them better & to keep the people safely on the road.
While driving vehicle unknown pressure builds up in steering wheel. Problem seems to occur at low drivingspeeds.
The steering of the 1997 chevy suburban gives an almost ticking, or pulsating movement as it goes through a steady wide sweeping curve.other times it feels that the steering wheel gets locked into a position.it's turning straight and it does not matter when it happens and it has to be pulled harder in the direction desired; in addition, it gives a slight whipping motion when it breaks free.*la
While driving along a curve, the steering wheel will jerk and cause the vehicle to swerve.this happens with slight to moderate curves, as well as severe curves.the problem began to occur within the first couple of years after we purchased the vehicle when it was new.the problem seems to worsen during cold weather.we have tried to correct the problem in several ways, but nothing has been effective.

'97 chevrolet c1500 pickup steering "slips" and then grabs again.this sometimes causes slight to moderate lane changes unexpectedly.this has been ongoing since i purchased the vehicle, but dealership is at a loss as to how to repair it.why doesn't gm recall these vehicles?
Vehicle has erratic steering.the steering wheel unexpectedly twitches or jerksgoing down the road.it is more prevalentwith just normal driving (steering down a road).
When changing lanes or turning, steering pulls with a quick motion.
Steering - at times when stopped, there is no power assist; at times while moving at any speed, there will be way too much power assist causing vehicles to change lanes/run off road rapidly. (this is dangerous) --- heater blower motor makes intermitent ticking noise ---neither problem has been fixed by dealer; dealer says all like models do it; dealer says they have contacted manufacturer and there is no fix.

While driving at any speedandwhen changing lanes or turning a corner, steering seems to get very loose. Owner has tried to report this problem to the dealership. Please provide any further information.
The variable effort power steering assist changes steering forces at all speeds. This causes erratic steering which causes unexpected swerving and lane changes. I have had the truck to the dealer 6 times for the same problem, the same part , the steering wheel position sensor has been replaced 3 times ,and the valve on the power steering pump has been replaced once. I consider this a very dangerous condition that chevrolet has apparently failed to address.

1997 chevrolet 1500 extended cab pickup 2wd when turning slightly towards the right the power assist boost increases causing the truck to quickly turn towards the right. I have noticed for many years and haven't known who to report this to. It happens quickly and i have to grab the steering wheel to keep the truck under control. I noticed the recall notice on the 1996 and 1997 cars but have had this identical over assist problem on my truck.*la
Power steering continually over corrects/assists. The steering will suddenly jump during turns.i have experienced this numerous times.the steering feels as though it is trying to over assist during turns (both gradual and tight turns).
Truck steers erractically when taking (navigating curves) a mild right turn at moderate speeds (20-50mph). This does not occur on left turns and seems to manifest itself by giving more "assist" to steering effort than needed. When steering into a curve, with a static, steady grip and force on the steering wheel, the power assist mechanism suddenly "makes it easier" to steer, hence causing oversteer. One dealer claims that a steering position sensor has gone defective. This is definitely a safety issue and it was brought to the forefront when today, driving at 30mph, i nearly oversteered into a young woman and her baby on the sidewalk when negotiating a very mild right curve. I'm getting this fixed at the next oil change ...
While driving at 5mphpower steering went out without prior warning.
The power steering "grabs", sort of like it over assists when making turns and then "lets go" suddenly causing a person to over steer trying to correct what seems like the vehicle is going to turn too far. This happens with both left & right turns. The turns can be gradual and if long, like freeway exits, it does this phenomenon repeatedly during the turn. It has been doing this since i bought it used in aug. 2000 and i heard on a local radio station that gm was going to notify owners in feb, 2004 of this problem and fix it for free. I have not been notified as yet.
When turning left vehicle lost power steering.

The contact owns a 1997 chevrolet silverado. He stated that while driving at 65 mphthe steering wheel started to steer on its own, moving right to leftand become very hard to steer. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that it was the electronic module on the power steering pump. They also stated that they knew that this was a common problem. The repair was done at the owners expense. The failure mileage was 89800 and current mileage was 90000.

Upon coming around a slow turn at about 25-35 mph, the steering all of a sudden gives and slips further then you initialize it, which seems to me not safe. Also a friend with the same truck and year but a 4x4 does this exact same thing.
My son was turning into a driveway when the power assist was lost. This made the truck almost undriveable and very difficult to maneuver. I have removed the pump and found the internal shaft had broken. I am an automotive technician with over 20 years experience as well as a manager for a local government fleet. I network with a large group of experienced technicians including independent repair shops. This appears to be a common failure on these trucks.

It's sad i've owned this truck for 8years and take very good care of itstill has all of its original body panels in rust/rot free and floors are mint just the frame is junk.
Vehicle experiences vibration and pulling continually.
At 25 mph and above the vehicles steering wheel will jerk when rounding a corner or making a turn. It will jerk the steering wheel when turning right and left. Higher speeds tend to make the jerking worse. I have had several certified mechanics evaluate the problem from the power steering pump, gear housing or even the sensor. After reasearching this issue on the local and nationally level, i would like a definate solution before i sink hundreds of dollars into this vehicle.

Driving at any speed vehicle will pull to the right. Also, when driving at 55 mph or highervehicle vibrates, causing the consumer to slow down. Vehicle is in the shop for repairs, and dealer can't determine the problem. This is the second timevehicle has been in for service.
While driving steering will jerk in both directions without warning. Sending you towards traffic or off the road
My 1997 c-1500 pickup has the problem of veering at high speed. My response is due to a article that i read in the newspaper that there was an investigation of this problem. My truck does this more often if there has been a sudden change in the weather or if it is cold weather. The problem is most noticed when negotiating curves at high speed.
Tire rubs fender well and steering wheel, causing rubbing noise when turning.
When driving at any speedvehicle is drifting from lane to lane due a frontalignmentproblem that needs to be serviced.when going around a corner, the consumer has to hold onto the steering wheel tight with both hands because the vehicle was pulling and jerking.
Due to a suspension problem, the vehicle's front end pulls to the right when driving the vehicle.please describe further details.
While driving at any speed the vehicle pulls to the right. Vehicle has been to dealer (3) times in (6) months. Dealer cannot state the problem. Problem still exists.
All 1991 and later full size chevy trucks have "knock outs" that prevent front end alignment by the owner of the vehicle.many trucks are brought back to the dealer with worn tires and the owners are unable to correct the alignment.a service bulletin has been issued describing how to correct the problem.chevrolet should recall and remove all knock outs free of charge.
The vehicle steers as if it were traveling on a rough road (although it is actually traveling on a smooth surface) unexpectedly jerking in one direction or another. I have had the tires replaced and front end realigned, but the problem persists. To drive this vehicle the driver must keep an abnormally firm grip on the steering wheel.
Steering wheel will jerk to the right/straight away and turning curves. Dealer contacted about ten times for the front end repair work, problem still occurs intermittently, dealer cannot duplicate the problem.
While driving on dry pavementvehicle severely pulls to the right or the left. Cause unknown. Please give any further details.
Repeat concerns ofvehiclewandering. Feels loose and constantly pulls to the right.gm has a tsb (76-30-01), addressing this concern. Both dealer and chevrolet division refused coverage under warranty, regardless of revised alignment specs detailed in tsb(chevrolet case # 990279369).
While driving at speeds of over 40 mph the truck will suddenly veer to the right or left without warning. Bearings and alignment have been checked and are okay. Dealer has not yet seen the vehicle, but has been notified by phone of the problem.
While driving the the vehicle will violently pull to the left, and could make the driver lose control of truck.
Steering wheel jerks the wheel the opposite direction than you are turning.
Vehicle pulls badly to the left due to bent frame.this is a design flaw from the mfg.
New design if the front end caused the truck to have 'knock outs' the prevent the front end from being aligned properly this problem results in prematurely worn tires.nlm
When driving over a potholefront end shakes violently to the point thatconsumer is unable to steer.
While making a fully left or right hand turn the tires hit the control arm and sway bars, preventing the vehicle from completing the turn. Consumer has contacted the dealer, dealer states normal operations. Please provide any further details.

The contact owns a 1997 chevrolet silverado 1500.the contact stated that the windshield wiper motor did not function properly on her vehicle.she would have to exit the vehicle, open the hood, strike the wiper motor with a hammer or place something under it for it to function at all.both the dealer and manufacturer offered no assistance.the current mileage was approximately 152,000 and failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

Thank you.
I have same problem as the rest , only thing is ,there all at the same time, which is right now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The wipers just stopped working in the middle of a storm and i had to pull to the side of the road and i tried everything i could to get the wipers to work i called a friend and he said to tap the wiper motor and it did get the wipers to work until i got home and the next day i called and got a new wiper motor and installed it on my truck and i have not had a problem since. The wiper motor was not cheap and i'm on a fixed income. I would like to be reimbursed for the cost of the wiper motor i'm not worried about the time it took me to replace it. I hope that you can help me out with this matter. Thank you
Steering - at times when stopped, there is no power assist; at times while moving at any speed, there will be way too much power assist causing vehicles to change lanes/run off road rapidly. (this is dangerous) --- heater blower motor makes intermitent ticking noise ---neither problem has been fixed by dealer; dealer says all like models do it; dealer says they have contacted manufacturer and there is no fix.

It was raining,i turned on my windshield wipers, they all of a sudden stopped working, then started working again. After the rain stopped i turned off the wipers but they would not turn off at all. I had to stop my truck and turn off the engine for my wipers to stop. I check for a recall and to my surprise there was a recall for the controller circuit board for the same year of my truck. I called the dealer and they said to bring my vehicle in. When i took the truck for a service recall, they checked the vin# then advised me that there was no recall on my truck. I said there was a recall and i was having the same problems as the recall. The service dept. Said there was nothing they could do. I called general motors they said that my truck although it is the same year and having the same problems as the recall,my truck is not involved in the recall.

My 1997 chevrolet silverado has a problem with the windshield wipers. This problem has been identified as being a manufacturers problem and a recall was recommended by nhtsa. The windshield wipers work, don't work, or work intermittently when ever they are turned on. Chevrolet has not issued a recall to date.
While driving in wet weather, vehicles' windshield wipers either hesitates to work or quit working, or don't work at all. This results indriver having poor visibility, which almost caused anaccident. The dealership indicated that they have to replace the wiper module, and also this is a very common problem with this make/model vehicle. Please provide more details. Ts

On oct 6, 2005, i was driving my 1997 chevrolet k1500 ext cab truck in a rain storm when the wipers just stopped.i found that there was a safety recall issued # 03v159000for this same problem in 2003.when i contacted the chevrolet dealership they requested my vin number and then told me my vehicle was not effected by this safety recall.i then contacted chevrolet and they told me my vehicle was not effected by this safety recall even though it might have the same wiper motor part number.they then went on to say that they sent out a bulletin that included my vehicle which stated something to the effect if failure occurs before 7 years or 70,000 miles we will replace it.since my vehicle is a 1997 and it currently has 73,000 miles on it and no longer qualifies as a candidate for this repair.please keep in mind the hazard still exists!chevrolet is also still replacing/repair this particular problem on other vehicles which might exceed the 7 year or 70,000 mile cutoff.this makes no sense to me since my vehicle has the exact same issue as these other vehicles.

Vehicle started experiencing this problem about six months ago with 32,000 miles on it. Consumer bought vehicle on 10-14 1997, vehicle was never in awreck, nor had any body work been done on it. Consumer first noticed problem when he was washing vehicle in driveway and went to turn on the windshield wipers to find that they would not work. Consumer contacted manufactureronjuly 20, 2005. Manufacturer stated that they could not find that this problem was covered by anything due to age of vehicle. Consumer said that he had heard that this was a problem on these vehicles with windshield wipers not working due to circuit board. He heard that vehicle could be fixed for free iffitted in a certain time frame. His vehicle did not fit in this time frame because it did not showwhen manufacturer was fixing this problem . Consumer just wanted this to be on record. He stated that manufacturer had a problem ,and he would hate for someone to loose his/her life because of it.
Windshield wipers stoppedmid-cycle; motor stops working; will not restart immediately.
Intermittent windshield wiper operation, wipers fail to operate or stop operation while driving.this series/year/make/model should be added to the existing recall 03v-159.
In rain storms or in good weather go to put the windshield wipers on and they just make a noise (like it is shorting out).it is not repeatable all the time.one minute they don't work, then the next minute they do! this condition happens once every so often.but when it is raining, it creates a hazardous condition.
While driving in the rain, thewindshield wipers failed to turn on when engaged.this resulted in poor visibility.there was a windshield wiper recall 03v159000, but this vehicle was not involved due to vin.*sc
While driving in rainy weather front windshield wipers failed.recall 03v159000 was issued. However, this vehicle was not included in the recall due to vin.
The windshield wipers on my 1997 chevrolet c-1500 pick-up truck function intermittently. At the first rain of the season, the wipers would not work. Thirty minutes later, the wipers began working again. The wipers have failed to function on six separate occasions now. For an unexplainable reason, they resume working after waiting a period of time ranging from ten to thirty minutes. The truck cannot be driven when the wipers are not working. (safety issue and vehicle code violation) no repairs yet taken. Rumor circulating that gm may recall the wipercircuitry board.
The windshield wipers on the chevrolet silverado i own will suddenly quit working leading to very poor visibility.they will work fine for the first 15-20 minutes while it is raining and then suddenly quit making it very dangerous to drive.i have noticed other recalls for vehicles very similar to mine regarding a "cracked solder joints on the controller circuit board" for the windshield wipers.i called chevrolet and they said there was no recall.
1997 silverado z71 windshield wipers will stop & start on own.
The windshield wipers fail intermittently, sometimes while driving in the rain. Mr *nlm*dt
