I was going through a green light at an intersection, when another vehicle ran the red light at a high speed. The vehicle hit the front center of my bumper and the airbags did not deploy and the seat belts did not hold. I was headed south, and the other vehicle was headed west, when it hit me. It turned me into the westward direction. When i came to, my head was hanging out the window and my son(who was in the passengers seat )was on top of me. He was thrown across the console, our seat belts did not hold. I was transported to the er by ambulance. If need be i have photos of the accident scene...updated 09-03-14 updated 09/10/2014
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet s10. While driving approximately 45 mph, the contact reached down to access an item and crashed into the preceding vehicle. None of the air bags deployed. A police report was filed. The officers also wondered why the air bags had not deployed due to the extensive damage to the front end of the vehicle. The contact sustained whiplash and minor bruising, which required medical attention. The seat belt managed to restrain the driver securely. The insurance company towed the vehicle to a yard. It was unknown if the vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer had not issued any air bag recalls for the year, make, and model vehicle; however, there was one air bag technical service bulletin. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The dealer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 100,048.
At 37000 miles my s-10 pickup started displaying a airbag warning light on the dash. The light is not constant and appears more on warm days. Being concerned i researched this problem om the internet. I found that this is a very common problem with this model of gm vehicle. I contacted gm to see if this was a warranty or recall issue and they stated no. With the air bag light on it is my understanding that the airbags will not deploy as long as the warning light is being displayed. This is a safety issue that needs to be corrected. Another problem gm just ignores.
Light for air bags reads the air bags are not working.mechanic says he has to go into the computer to see what the problems is.it is a lot of work involved to see what the problems is.the light constantly on while vehicle running.
Truck was purchased 7/7/20. Seemed to work fine, but started noticing engine trouble on 9/10/20. Had only driven it ~150 miles since purchase, never any strenuous driving. Took it in to get serviced on 9/21/20, where several problems were spotted, one of which is traceable to the dealer:1) the distributor cap was being held on only by two zipties. This is why it seemed to run fine on the date of purchase, but caused engine misfires within a few months of light use. The dealership notified me the day before i purchased it that the distributor was being fixed, but they failed to notify me that it wasn't fixed properly. Truck now misfires, has an arcing wire, and is unsafe to drive.2)truck was sold with no parking brake, and no warning that it was not installed. This information has omitted when i asked about safety issues before purchasing. Never noticed because phx is so flat. Had i needed to use the parking brake, not having one installed is a significant safety issue.3) an impact sensor was left hanging from the rear of the vehicle. A large enough bump or a rock could set off airbags while driving, putting my passengers, myself, and other drivers and pedestrians at serious risk. This truck is very unsafe to drive, and i was not responsible for any of the issues that made it unsafe. The first issue was caused by a bad repair made by the dealership, and the other two noted issues were not noted in the carfax or by the salesperson when i asked about safety issues.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet s10. The contact stated that the driver side air bag warning indicator illuminated intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer (hometown chevrolet buick gmc inc, 2009 barnes st, reidsville, nc, 27320) where it was diagnosed that it could be one out of two failures: an air bag warning sensor or something behind the steering wheel. The diagnosis was incomplete until the vehicle could be serviced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer confirmed that there was no recall on the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.

My son was driving my chevrolet s-10 pickup truck on interstate highway 75 going south around exit for 9 mile road. He met with an accident with the vehicle in front of it a jeep cherokee. The truck was towed by michigan state police. My insurance company inspected the vehicle and totaled it. The front end of the truck was very badly damaged. My complaint is that both the airbags of the truck did not engage. According to the police officer and my insurance inspector said the airbags should have engaged. I called gm and filed a complaint on 07-14-2003. Complaint number 1-118887130. Was called by mike dimare of the gm customer complaints center. He requested me to fax the repair estimate and the photos to him which was done on 07-17-2003.just wanted to let your offices know that this incidence has scared my 16 year son so much that he does not want to get in a gm vehicle at all.
My husband was involved in a car accident in the brooklyn battery tunnel on 8/23/05.the front of his vehicle hit into the rear of another car.his airbag never deployed.my husband died at the scene of the accident.although he did have his seat belt on, his head did break the windshield.geico car insurance totaled the vehicle.i want to be sure that this does not happen to anyone else.

I have a 2003 s-10 with 28,000 miles. I have had to replace both co2 sensors and now it won't start. It just started jerking and the fuel pump and filter work fine. Its getting gas and has a new battery. The check engine light is on. It wants to start but it doesn't. Also the radio comes on when i turn it off. What gives? this is my 3rd s-10....

The truck was occasionally not turning over. Tried things like turning fan on, radio, etc and it would start. Security light comes on or will blink. Truck now is not turning over at all. Dash lights blink and or come on when door opens. This is a problem i've seen all over internet, but nothing has worked. I think it should have a recall. I am paying for a dead truck now. Truck was stationary-won't start.
Parked truck, turned ignition off , noticed fuel gauge, temp gauge and volt gauge were still on. I then put the key back in the ignition switch but did not turn it- before key was fully inserted gauges went off. Wiggled key in slot and gauges were back on.

I am have the same problems everyone else is with gm's pass locksystem. I have a 2003 chevy s10 pick up. Security light comes on and wont start leaving me stranded. I have taken it to the dealership once and they reprogrammed the computer and that worked for 8 months. Now it wont start again at all.
2003 chevy s10 zr-2 window stops working randomly is there a safety recall?
Interior lights flicker and go off and on for periods of time. The shift indicator and odometer milage gights are effected the most and it happens on a daily basis.
The vehicle's wire harnessmelted against the exhaust manifold. As a result, the fuses blew out and the check engine sensor light stayed on.

When trying to use the wipers the switch refuses to operate correctly. Been replaced twice ( this happens under all three switches). When you turn it on it will not respond and does not wipe. When you use the single wipe will wipe continual and not shut off at times.some times when you use the fluid will not turn off unless you turn the engine off and restart the vehicle. When in the first two notches for wiping will start to wipe and stop about 1/4 of the way up the windshield. In high position operates as if normal, must set it above high to get it to operate in high. Sometimes it only operates at one speed no matter the position except when in high mode. Many times will not turn on when you turn it on and when you turn it off will not turn of if working. This is the third switch that has done this to me. ? is there a recall on gm switches as i can find none and many people say they have experienced same results on other gm vehicles or heard of it occurring update 9/15/15*cwthe consumer was informed the wiper control module failed. It was replaced and there were no more problems.the consumer stated the engine control module failed, previously. Updated 10/13/15
I was parked idling when the engine went out. Cooled down and started.got on 10 at 60 mph and the abs brake light came on and the speed dropped instantly to about 30 mph. Twice on the way home did the same, then conked out. Tried to drive to shop and had to be towed. They replaced the cam sensor and acts mostly okay. But every so often the abs light comes on and the speed drops dramatically then recurs. There is not a code being put in the system telling them the issue why but there was a code one abs sensor is turning on. It is like the abs is engaging without me hitting the brakes and then cutting off. Again this only happens sporadically will be taking it into the dealer asap. Note again no indicator the cam sensor was bad or anything else. Updated 08-20-14 the dealer stated there was a code in the system, for the speed sensor, and they were able to clear it. 2003 chevy s10 has been maintained and taking care of. Brakes in rear were sticking due to factory defective abs control module. Rear wheel bearing gave out and started leaking axle fluid cause of a sticking drivers side brake from abs control module malfunctioning. After much cost of replacing calipers and brake pads the culprit from a defectively abs control module making the brake caliper stick to the rotor.. Next the coolant leaks from the intake manifold gasket and now the heater core leaksā€¦ this truck has only 146k miles on it and i always taking care of it keeping up before itā€™s schedule maintenance. But what i see is poor defective parts from gm. So i have to make sure i get this work done and keep the coolant filled or there be a motor issue from overheating. This is a safety concern and if the heater core leaks then breathing the toxic coolants isnā€™t safe at all when the ac is on or no heat in winter!. Now gm discontinued making the s10 in north america but redesigned a front wheel drive diesel version in south america.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet s10. While driving approximately 50 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated. After exiting the vehicle, the contact observed an unknown fluid leaking under the front of the vehicle. The contact also observed corrosion around the heating coil. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 130,000. Engine lower intake manifold gasket is leaking coolant.very expensive repair is needed, costing more than $500.i have driven this vehicle very gently and always maintained it, replacing the engine oil when needed.
While driving 65 mph vehicle stalled. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
I bought a new chevrolet s-10 in 2003.from the very first time i drove it i noticed the a/c compressor made a grinding noise which was much nosier than any other compressor i've ever heard on any vehicle.i took it back to the dealer and they supposedly "checked it out", on a couple of different occasions and claimed there was nothing wrong with the a/c.all i know is two months after the warranty expired, my a/c compressor started smoking, blowing heavy clouds of white smoke into the passenger compartment, and the air coming into the passenger compartment was hot.the clutch had went out on the compressor.now i have a fairly nice truck that i have to bake in when i drive it.this is the first car i've ever owned in my 52 years that ever had this to happen.i certainly feel cheated in that i was at the time still making payments on the vehicle, which i bought brand new and took good care of.do i have any avenue of recourse?i feel my a/c compressor was defective from day one, as does my brother, who owns a large professional hvac company here in town.please help me.thank you.
At approximately 83,456 miles the heater core broke. I first noticed smell ethylene glycol,it caused (somewhat greasy) fogging of the windshield above the windshield heater vent. Glycol leak directly into the car, causing wet upholstery or carpeting.coolantsprayeddirectly into the passenger compartment followed with white colored smoke.

I accelerated to merge onto interstate 95 and the vehicle would not decelerate.i had to keep the brake depressed as hard as i could to keep the truck under control before i got off the highway.i feel lucky to be alive.the truck was towed to a chevy dealer, but i don't think they took it very seriously.
When vehicle is at a complete stop acceleration hesitates sometimes. *mrthe transmission was delayed when shifting, at times when hot, the gear failed to shift to over drive.the oxygen sensor was replaced. *scc

A/c blower does not work correctly after several hours on the highway. When set to high it blows about the same as if set on low. After stopping for awhile it will work correctly again. Since it is impossible to recreate on demand i have not taken to dealership.
My vehicle, a 2003 chevy s10 truck, like many vehicles, has daytime running lights that automatically go on when the truck is running; the regular headlights and taillights come on automatically when outdoor light fades. As a result i never touch the headlight switch.recently my friend was following me in her car on a highway trip when we encountered surprisingly dense daylight fog; sensible speed on the highway dropped to 25 or 30 mph.happily every car i saw had its lights on (not to see but to be seen). At one point my friend flashed her lights at me repeatedly and i pulled over to find out what was wrong. "your taillights aren't on," she said. "i know you're there, but if i'm as far back as feels safe, ireally can't see you!" it had never occurred to me that there was ever a time when safety required me to actually turn on the headlights. It seems entirely possible to me that the non-automatic lighting of taillights on vehicles with this lighting arrangement might contribute to pileups in daytime fog or blowing snow.i'm going to rig my lights so the taillights come on in daytime running too. This situation might not rise to the level of a recall, but i wonder whether standards for future vehicles should require that daytime running lights include taillights.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet s10. The contact stated that the brake light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the brake light module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 54,000.
Headlights dim without warning. On 2 occasions the headlights dimmed and failed.this reduces driver's visibility. As a result, the consumer drove off the road and went into a ditch.also, upon depressing accelerator pedal automatic transmission dropped into first gear abruptly.
The consumers vehicle is equipped with a 2 headlamp system.after aligning the drivers side lower beam headlamp, the upper beam headlamp (which does not contain a separate aiming mechanism) appears to be aimed lower than the lower beam.the consumer states that this condition significantly limits the drivers visibility when using upper beam.the consumer has taken the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the headlamp was not repairable.the dealer also demonstrated a similar anamoly in the drivers side headlamp on another 2003 s10 that it had on the dealer lot.
2003 chevrolet s-10. Truck didn't start, dealer replace fuel pump (close to $400 ) for pump. Truck doesn't have 90,000. Last time i buy chevrolet.

2003 chevrolet s-10. Truck didn't start, dealer replace fuel pump (close to $400 ) for pump. Truck doesn't have 90,000. Last time i buy chevrolet.
Dt:contact stateshe tried to startvehicle and it would not start. He had it towed and found that he needed to replace the fuel pump. Dealer replaced the fuel pump at manufacturer's expense ,and charged contact for labor. Manufacturer said they have no problems with the fuel pump, and offered to pay for fuel pump.
Problems with the new purchase of 2004 chevrolet s10.*mrwhile driving something hit the bottom of the vehicle, possibly a stone.this contact entirely damaged the vehicle's gas tank.the consumer was advised by a mechanic that the vehicle's fuel tank wasn't an inch off the ground and was even below the frame of the car with no protection.the consumer is consumer about the safety issue of the tank being so low to the ground and not being protected by the frame.the consumer had to ride an hour and a half to obtain a new tank and was told that the one she purchased was the last one in the country.
Gas tank overfill protection. When you fill the gas tank on my 2003 chevy s-10 crew cab it will not auto shut off the pump lever before the tank is too full and gas sprays out and down the side of the truck. Happens on every fill up that is not manually controlled.
This has just started in the last two months. I have had the truck since it was new. When i try to put gas in my 2003 chevrolet s-10 the gas pump nozzle will keep clicking off no matter how slow i pump the gas in. The last two times i put gas in it, it will overflow even if the tank is empty. I take the nozzle out of the tank and the gas will continue to bubble out.i took it to our mechanic and he looked it over and could find nothing wrong.
I purchased a model 2003 chevrolet s10 crew cab in december of 2002.sometimes when i fill the tank it overflows, runs down the side of the truck and makes a spot of gasoline on the ground.it has overflowed many times since i bought the truck, using both the highest and lowest fill settings on the fuel pump nozzle.the dealership replaced the fuel tank, vent lines, charcoal canister, and other parts.the chevrolet regional service manager said that chevrolet will not do any more work on the truck.i try to fill the tank with the lowest fill setting on the gas nozzle, but sometimes it still overflows.i am concerned it will ruin my paint and/or become a fire hazard.i was told that the cause of the problem is that chevrolet redesigned the fuel tank for this truck, which removed the vent line that goes from the tank to the top of the fill pipe. *ph
Evap hose on fuel tank chewed up by rodent , when 1st had truck in shop was toldhat service engine light came on because fuel cap was not tight, have a friend that works at another car dealer and have had them clear code for gas cap, whenbrought to chevrolet dealer last time they do a smoke test and tell me the evap hosewas chewed up by some kind of rodent and thet it would cost me $1500.00 to fix or my truck would never pass emisions this is not covered by warranty.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet s-10.when the fuel gauge reached 1/4 of a tank, it failed to go any higher and caused a miscalculation of the amount of gas in the vehicle.while driving 35 mph, the contact ran out of gas once because of the incorrect reading on the fuel gauge.the vehicle was taken to a dealer on four different occasions and the contact was informed that the failure could not be repaired.the sensors were changed, but the failure recurred.the purchase date was unknown.the current mileage was 45,593 and failure mileage was approximately 20,000.
Gasoline spit-back"while refueling.gasoline will spit-back from the filler neck before the pump stops or just after the pump stops.gasoline spills down the side of the vehicle to the ground ,and gets on the operators hands and shoes.the fuel tank and associated assemblies were replaced under warranty in spring 2004.problem was diagnosed to be anti spill valve malfunction.?split-back recurred, and not related to a specific gas station.
Fuel tank leaking-no impact.noted the fuel tank is separating from the fuel filler neck.plastic fuel tank is cracking without any impact to the tank.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet s-10. The contact stated that the plastic interior rear driver side door handle fractured numerous times. The contact has taken the vehicle to the dealer eight times to have the handle replaced yet the failure would recur immediately after repairs.the contact stated there were numerous complaints online regarding the failure for the year, make and model. The failure mileage was 90,000.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet s10. The contact statedthat the lower hinge pin on the passenger side door continued working its way upward which caused the door to rattle abnormally. The vehicle had not been taken to the dealer in regards to the issue. In addition, the contact stated that the plastic rear door handle continued to fracture from the vehicle. The door handle was replaced with the same type of plastic door handle. The contact was concerned because there was not a metal replacement handle available and believed the plastic would only continue to fracture. The failure mileage was 64,720 and the current mileage was 84,780.
Dt:the door latch keeps breaking off of the 3rd door.
Door bushings are worn-out, door pins do not rotate in them and have elongated and cut through the side of the bushings, making it hard to open and close doors.
Opening third door at food store. The third door handle broke.unable to open door. Replaced handle and it broke also.broken part is available. Plastic squeeze handle broke.
Third door handle broke again 3 times so far and the dealer said i need to push the door in while i pull the latch. I did a search on the internet and found two companies that are offering replacements but i feel that i should not have to purchase not factory parts for a factory part.
2003 chevrolet s10 third door extended cab door latch breaks routinely, the current case makes the 4th such case, made of cheap plastic, unsafe, cannot access door.
The 3rd door handle/latch on our extended cab 2003 chevy s-10 recently broke for the fourth time.this occurs approximately every 8-10 months.the vehicle is used for personal use only.the 3rd door is opened/closed approximately 10 times a week.the dealer has worked with us on this and we do not believe that it is a service department issue.we believe that the part is either designed improperly or manufactured from substandard material. We are deeply concerned that this is a safety issue.if a person or animal was being transported in the extended cab area and the handle/latch failed in an emergency where a speedy exit from the vehicle was critical, loss of life could occur. We believe this problem is important and requires an immediate solution.*updated 12/12/07 updated 12/12/07

I have a 2003 s-10 that when it is damp out due to rain or melting snow my rear brakes will lock up. I have taken it to 2 different mechanics and they both say the rear brakes are out of adjustment. After a few days it happens again. Again the mechanics claim the brakes are out of adjustment. It has been in the shop a total of 4 times between the two mechanics each saying the same thing. It is slowly getting worse and has caused me to skid and at times "get sideways" in the road. I have since parked the truck and am driving a different vehicle.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet s10. The contact stated that while attempting to apply the parking brake, it failed to engage. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for repair or inspection. The four wheel drive actuator on top of the transfer case failed- actuator i when it failed it allowed transfer case fluid to be drawn into the vacuum system of the vehicle causing problems with four wheel drive engagement and disengagement. The four wheel drive attempted to engage at 65mph on the expressway. It also causedthe heater controlsnot to work properly.the truck needs to have the actuators (5), the vacuum tank, the vacuum lines and the heater control. A 1400.00 repair bill i will have to cover.

While driving at 60 mph vehicle lostpower.then, consumer lost control ofvehicle, hit a guard rail, and landed in a ditch. Consumer sustained no injuries.vehicle was towed to a dealer, who informed the consumer that the pcm needed replacement. Dealer tried to reprogram the system, but was unable to do so.
Vehicle vibrates badly between the speeds of 45-55 mph have taken vehicle back five times dealer has worked on it twice replacing the tires, with same brand once still no improvement same problem still exists.gm advises me to call dealer, dealer advises me to call gm. Please help
If the vehicle is placed in 4-wheel drive on a high traction surface and you attempt to turn, left or right, the drivetrain locks up and the vehicle will not move. I have taken it to the dealer and had many conversations with gm customer service and they tell me i should not be driving in 4-wheel drive on a high traction surface. The service manager did agree that the vehicle will not turn in this situation and that there was nothing he could do. I have owned numerous 4-wheel drive trucks and never have i had one that would not turn will in 4-wheel drive on a high traction surface. They may skip or hop a little but they always turned. If you happen to turn left and the vehicle stops you would be placing yourself and the passengers in harms way with on-coming traffic. I have a safety issue with my vehicle and it may be a generic issue. Gm says it is caused by driving in 4-wheel drive on a high traction surface but when asked where it states in the owners manual that i can't drive in this situation they say it does not specifically state it. If this is a generic issue then there may be alot of owners that may not be aware of an extreme saftey concern. If your organization has a local office i would be happy to demostrate this safety issue.
Consumer tookvehiclethree timesback to dealer due tonoiseand vibrationat freeway speed.the u-joints were replaced.
Had driveline howl/vibration since vehicle has been new between 45-70mph.dealer has put in 2 new rear axle assemblies and have not been able to fix problem.third time i brought vehicle into dealer for same problem the said noise was normal for the 03 model year s-10 pickups.i put on new rims and tires to see if that could be the cause, problem still there.i now have 18,000 miles and noise and vibration is getting worse and worse and vehicle is currently at another dealer to whom i did not purchase the vehicle from to fix the problem but they can't find anything wrong.
The vehicle'sdriveshaft fell off while the vehicle was stopped.the vehicle was inoperable and had to be towed to the dealer.the dealer told the consumer that the failure was due to poor driving.please provide any further information. *nlm
-the contactownsa 2003 chevrolet s10 that was taken to dealerfor service on 08/02/03witha speedometer reading of 3,271 miles at the time of service.the contact explained to dealership that the vehiclecontinuously vibrated.the dealership serviced the vehicle and stated that there wasn't anything wrong with the vehicle.the vehicle continued to have the same vibration, but every time the contact brought vehicle to dealerfor service theyinsistedthat there wasn't anything wrong with the vehicle.on 10/20/06 while driving on the expressway at f 60-65 mph the driveshaft became loose, going underneath an 18th wheeler and across the other side of the expressway.at the time of the incident the vehicle had 36,000 miles.the vehicle was towed to woody fulson automotive, and theystated that the driveshaft and u ring came loose from the rack and pinion steering system.the dealer replaced the driveshaft,as well as serviced the vehicle.on 12/26/06 contact 's vehiclevibrated whenever the vehicle went over 30 mph, which caused the hood to pop open and the windshield to shatter.the contact brought the vehicle to dealership ,and they statedthat the vibration was due to the banding of the driveshaft.
Driving on highway in stop and go slow traffic for an hour, the clutch stopped operating properly, then 2nd and 3rd gear would not work. Dealer service manager says these clutches get hot and i should just pull off the road for 10 minutes! i also had a/c on. Dealer can't recreate the problem, and denies it exist.
Tailgate fell off while driving. One side stayed attatched causing tailgate to drag. Also, engine makes high pitch squealing noise between 4000-4500 rpms. Also 5th gear went out while driving down the freeway. Have had several friends that own the same vehicle have transmission problems like this. Also, molding around front windshield likes to melt.
Was driving to work noticed when depressed clutch to put into gear. It wasn't allowing me to do so. Was stuck on side of road had tow truck take vehicle back to dealer for service. Bought used veh. Under warranty 1week and a day ago.
4-wheel drive system has failed repeatedly.the vehicle has been at the dealer 4 times with-in 35 days.the 4-wheel drive system would not engage on several occassions.currently the system will not dis-engage and the vehicle is stuck in 4-wheel drive low.the dealer continues to repair the problem, but it doesn't solve it.the dealer has had to replace the encoder actuator motor and the modular 2-3 times already and once again the vehicle is back in the shop, needing another modular.
The four wheel drive actuator on top of the transfer case failed- actuator is vacuum actuated and when it failed it allowedtransfer case fluid to be drawn into the vacuum system of the vehicle causing problems with four wheel drive engagement and disengagement. But the worst problem is that the fluid caused the heater controls, also vacuum activated, not to work properly so that the vehicle windshield could not bedefogged or defrosted, which is a safety problem because of the lack of visibility. It is a known defect with this vehicle but g.m. Refuses to acknowledge the manufacturing problems. The dealer had to replace all the actuators (5), the vacuum tank, the vacuum lines and the heater control.

2003 chevrolet s-10 zr2's four wheel drive automatically engaged causing accidents. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but they were unable to find a problem.the transmission slipped.the engine would also miss.the vehicle also exhibited problem with the driver's side window, headlights, taillights, windshield wipers, cruise control and trim. The vehicle cruise control activated once while driving.the tailgate had to be adjusted.
I bought a 2003 chevrolet s-10 p.u at a used car dealer on 11-13-09, drove it home on 11-14-09 that evening. On 11-19-09, driving it home from the repair shop for not wanting to start, i pulled out onto the highway and the seat slid back on its tracks. On 11-29-09 leaving church, i pulled onto the highway and the seat slid back on its tracks again. I got it locked in place at the next stop light, and when i accelerated, it happened again.when i step on the gas pedal to accelerate, the seat rocks back, which appears todisengage the locking mechanism from the tracks, and the seat slides back.i drove it home on 11-14-09 that evening. It sat in the driveway until 11-17-09 that afternoon, when it got towed to the repair shop because it didn't start on 11-15-09. Picked it up on 11-19-09 around 5:30 pm sat in the driveway that evening. Drove it to work the next morning 11-20-09. Got done with work at 3:30 pm where the truck didn't start. Had it towed to repair shop. Being the weekend, and they're closed on weekends, it sat there through the weekend until 11-24-09 that afternoon got it back on 11-24-09.so for the short time i did have the truck, it happened on the three occurrences i described.i'm 5'-6" tall, so when i accelerate, and the seat rocks and slides back on its tracks, my feet are moved away from the accelerator and the brake pedals very quickly rendering them useless, until i can pull myself forward using the steering wheel and sliding up on the seat.just double checking that the latch is down. Rocking back to check if it's locked. I have an appointment to take it back to the dealer on thursday to check why it's not starting. I could probably have them check the seat also.
The contact stated that while attempting to apply the parking brake, it failed to engage. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for repair or inspection. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 90000.updated 11/15/13
Brake line corroded through and brake pressure was lost.
Driving back home from the grocery store. Brake pedal went to the floor. Nursed the truck to the house. Reservoir almost empty. Refilled reservoir with brake fluid. Checked under truck and found that the left rear wheel was coated with brake fluid. Pulled the rear wheel to find the leak. Brake lines coated with fluid. I had my wife come out to pump the brake pedal while i was under the truck. Leak found in the hard line about 2 inches from the flexible line to the hard line connection.
Severe "from the outside in" corrosion to all "hard" brake lines, causing hydraulic failures on two dates (within) two months, result being all the hard brake lines requiring replacement.cost in excess of $1200, only viable option would have been to scrap vehicle.during hydraulic failures, service rear brakes totally unavailable.fluid squirting into space.front brakes partially effective.not real safe.
[xxx] s-10 extended bedi am the second owner of this truck and a month after i purchased it i noticed what ever speed you were going if you pressed on your brakes the truck would slip under nether you. I was alarmed the first time and than it happened again and then again. I brought the car to the mechanic, and new brakes and calipers were changed on the rear,$$$. I was feeling much safer until soon after the problem resurfaced. I brought it back to the mechanic -nothing . Then again and again . He did replace my front brakes $$.still the problem remained. I changed mechanic and he stated it is abs, it happens a lot in this vehicle and he see it all the time. This is a very dangerous situation where the truck does not have the ability to stop...please help!information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Total suddenbrake failure i had to leave the road to avoid other cars.40mphfront right steal line failed and right rear line failed at the same timelines are rusty but the rest of the truck is okthere was no warning signs ( like drips or low level in the booster)
My wife was picking up our 2 year old and 6 year old granddaughters from their home and bringing them to our house to babysit them. Traveling at 35-45 mph she depressed the brake pedal to stop and the pedalslowly went to the floorboard. She finally made it home and she told me about it.i looked under the vehicle and noticed something leaking from the under carriage. I jacked the vehicle up and inspected the brake lines and discovered that the brake lines were rusted and one had cracked. I am a retired vehicle technician with over 50 years of experience on all types of automotive repair. I have never seen this much rust on a vehicle (2003 chevrolet s10 with only 55,000 miles) in all my years of service. We inherited this truck from my father-in-law who passed away. He lived in kentucky, so it was subject to unpavedroads, snow, salt, etc.we live in florida, and decided to keep the truck for sentimental reasons. I had to replace the entire brake system, brake pads ,rotors calipers, backing plates, abs sensors, and nowa brake line. I undercoated the vehicle and got as much rust off the frame as i possibly could. The front wheel hubs probably are next because the abs brake system doesn't work properly. I spent a lot of time and money on this vehicle. Gm should be madeaccountable for this problem before somebody gets hurt or killed. In my opinion it is apriority safety issue that needs attention and general motors should be responsible for it.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet s10. The contact was approaching a traffic stop when he applied the brakes and the vehicle failed to respond. The brake pedal became stuck to the floorboard, causing the contact to become involved in a crash that involved four additional vehicles. There were no injuries. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the contact was advised that the brake lines were corroded. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 136,000. The vin was not available. Updated 04/29/14*lj
On august 14, 2014 the rear brake line rusted through and fluid was spilled onto the road.fortunately i was leaving my home and only going about 10 mph and there were no injuries.the s-10 has 65500 miles on it.it cost $700 to repair at the gm dealer.in november 2013 the front brake line rusted through as i was leaving work and had to stop attraffic light.once again i was fortunate that i was traveling in a school zone and only going 15 mph when they gave out. It cost $1600 for the repairs.it has 58000 miles on it at the time.i can only image the danger associated with these brake failures as i travel in the nys thruway and long island expressway regularly at speeds of 65-70 mph.i am fearful of the next rust through as the rear brakes lines were repaired not replaced.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet s10 pickup ls. The vehicle did not pass inspection due to the rust on the rotors. The rotors have been replaced by the dealer on several occasions. The dealer acknowledged that this is a common problem for this year, make, and model. The dealer also stated that this is a manufacturers defect because of the material that is applied to the rotors. They also stated that if he were to stop suddenly, there is a great possibility that the brakes would not catch due to the rust on the rotors which could result in a crash. The current mileage was 35,000 and the failure mileage was approximately 32,000. An appointment is scheduled for january 2008. General motors has not offered any assistance with the cost or repair.
My 2003 chevrolet s-10 pickup has a dangerous abs system in that it locks up under routine stops and actually appears to pull vehicle to an abrupt stop.i took it into a mechanic who said that he had another owner of the s-10 with same problem.he advised me to remove the fuse #22 which would turn off the abs and return my vehicle to standard braking. The mechanic said he was looking up information on how to fix the problem, but had not success.
2003 chevrolet s-10.brake lights stay on.replaced the switch and it fixed it only a short time.many complaints on the internet and i know of one other owner, of an s-10 truck with the same problem.
Bought 2003 s-10 v6 one year ago.(11/2009) truck has less than 45000k on it brakes on the vehicle squeal and lock up all the time.i have had my brakes worked on 4x's by a gm certified mechanic, the problem still is not fixed.i have turned rotors, changed brake pads, loosened back brakes, etc. Nothing works! if it is raining outside vehicle is unsafe to drive due to skidding into car in front of you.as a matter of fact it is unsafe to drive all the time due to skidding/brakes locking up/increased stopping distance. Mechanic has looked online to see if anything is mentioned about what to do next.i have looked and looks like more people are having the same problem.i have spent already close to $700 on this brake problem.one diagnosis is to replace rotors but i feel this should be something gm does since more people are having this problem and the severity of this issue.someone could be hurt or even killed.
While applying the brake pedal, the vehicle failed to stop completely.theconsumer applied the emergency brakes and the vehicle stopped completely. This caused the passenger to move forward and sustain major injuries. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection numerous times. The mechanic was unable to duplicate the problem. Please provide further details.
Four days prior to incident date, i had applied brakes very hard, could be described as a "panic stop".on the days following, i had noticed a small amount of fluid under left front of vehicle when approaching vehicle.then, after four days, i noticed at a stop light the vehicle began to creep forward and required more pressure on the brake peddle to remain stopped.brake peddle also went further towards floor. Upon returning home i opened hood and confirmed brake fluid level was low.took vehicle to shop and was told all brake lines needed replacing because of corrosion. The brake fittings on the lines and bleed screws on calipers were almost nonexistent, nothing but rust.the line itself had split, which had caused the leak. I feel this could have caused a catastrophic incident had i not hastened discovery by having to apply heavy brakes at a slow speed.replaced all lines and calipers because of corrosion.first time i have had any problem like this in thirty seven years of owning a vehicle of one sort or another.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet s-10.in inclement weather conditions, the windshield wipers fail to return to their proper position.as a result, the windshield remains partially covered with debris.the contact, who is a certified mechanic, stated that the failure was due to improper spring tension in cold weather conditions.he heard grinding metal when the brake pedal was depressed.eventually, the brake pads completely failed and needed to be replaced.he called the dealer and the manufacturer, but was not provided any assistance.the failure mileage was 3,000 and current mileage was 62,000.updated 2/9/09 updated 02/13/09.

Year 2003 chevrolet s-10 pickuphas a defect in the brake tubing. Very dangerous as brakes fail. For the last 3 years i have experienced brakes failing 3 times. The first 2 times the shop replaced a full tube from the master cylinder to the wheel. Now i have a new failure..i suggest a recall to assist me and others with this very dangerous and expensive problem. The brake lines must have been manufactured with inferior material that tends to rust out in eastern areas where salt is used on the roads.
I applied the brakes on entering my driveway.the pedal went nearly to the floor.a pool of brake fluid formed on the driveway under the driver's side about the middle of the truck.investigation showed a corroded and burst brake pipe just in front of the fuel tank.

2003 s-10 pick-up truck.abs brakes engage when brakes applied at 10mph causing vehicle to swerve to the right and wheels locking.this caused increased stopping distance and almost being rear ended by the vehicle behind me.was unable to drive the vehicle in traffic conditions to the engagment of the abs.
The antilock brakes on my chevrolet s-10 pick-up fails while trying to stop in bumper to bumper traffic of between 15 to 20 miles an hourfortunately i ran into the back of a full size chevrolet truck and there were no injuries, only damage to the vehicles. Prior to this incident for about a month the brakes would pulsate after driving a a while and stopping at low speed or during light pedal pressure. The brakes were check for warped or defective rotors and possible worn pad.the rotors and pads were found to be ok and so were the rotors which are smooth. The brake pads and rotors are the factory originals and the vehicle has under 36,000 miles.the truck is use as an occasional local commute vehicle and for pleasure, and not for work, or to carry heavy loads. After i found two 020525006a and 02052500 which describes the problem of low speed abs activation. I think this is a very serious issues that people should be made aware of.just as i couldn't stop and i hit a truck, i could easily have hit a person or a child that may have ran into the street chasing a ball.this accident happened just two blocks from my home. I think is negligent that car companies are not made to report to consumers such serious life safety issues, which can cause the lost of life for both drivers and pedestrians, which could be any of us or any of our relatives. When i got home and realized the implication of consumers not being notified of such bulletins i felt sick to my stomach. I hope that general motors is made to bear the responsibility of not only informing consumers of such a vital safety equipment failure, but also for paying for the repairs of something which could have been corrected while my vehicle was still under warranty.
Intermittently brake light illuminated on the dashboard. As a result, the brakes appliedby themselves, resulting in extended stopping distance.
When i hit a small bump my abs kicked in and i lost alot of braking power, almost caused accident.brake pedal went to the floor. (earlier date).brake pads completely warn down to squelers after 10,000 milescost of $160 to replace pads.

They concluded that the brake pedal assembly was incorrectly installed ,and the bushing was defective from the factory installation.two years later the contact hadthe same problems with the bushing.the dealership did notwant to make the repairs since itwas out of warranty. At 7200 miles the rotors on our 2003 chevy xtreme needed to be resurfaced, they resurfaced.at 12,000 mile our vehicle was back infor rotor problems again this time they stated that they would not repair we were accused of doing brake stands (back tires were over inflated wearing in the center).rotors and brakes needed to be replaced, too it to another chevy dealer we again were told that this was damage because of braking after a talk with the service mgr they went ahead and replaced the front and rear brakes, resurfaced the rotors.at 3000 miles i would bring back for inspection. Tires replaced.took my vehicle to have tires rotated then made appt. With chevy to inspect brakes at approx. 30,000 mile the rotorsagain were warped, i had to wait for the area service mgr to make our onoct. 26,2006 we had an appt with chevy to inspect the brakes and rotors with the area service mfr by this time our mileage was up to 38,000.they statedthat the lug nuts were torqued at 140 and should of been at 100(this dealer was the last one to take the tires off the vehicle so they torqued the tires too tight. Torque for s-10 is 100 and torque for a 1500 is 140) this caused the rotors to warp, the brakes were gone because of excessive brakingthey wanted to take no responsibility for their product.they would not repair the brakes or the rotors because 1. Lug nuts torqued to much 2. Braking excessive 3. Vehicle out of the 3yr/36000 mile warranty.several people that own a chevy. Xtreme have had the same problem with the brakes on their vehicle too.i feel that this is an issue that general motors needs to address immediately this is not the consumers error but a gm product defective. These dealerships have no right to make judgment calls on consumers on how they feel they drive when it is their product that is defective.

Upon personal inspection of my vehicle i discovered my spare tire was missing and the cable had snapped due to cable fraying or corrosion. The exact time and speed of this failure is unknown but the danger could be potentially hazardous for the following reasonsa: the tire could pose a hazard to traffic behind the vehicle.b: the tire could roll into lanes of traffic or pedestrians. C: the tire could fall at such an angle to lift and deflect the rear end of the vehicle causing damage and unexpected loss of control.d: the operator could find themselves stranded without a spare tire.

I have an 2003 chevy s10 that doesn't even have 30,000 miles on it yet. The third door handle has broke and been replaced twice already. The incident date was the around the last time i put one on. It currently needs another handle put on it now. I haven't done it yet cause at $30 each time it has to be replaced is getting expensive for a piece of plastic. Without this piece it is hard to open the door and i usethe door to get my daughter in and out of my truck. I feel this part needs to be recalled and changed to a better handle.

On the 2003 chevy s-10 pick up truck, the door handle for the third door which leads to the rear compartment is poorly made. This handle has broken at least three times since i purchased the vehicle. Now i can not open the third door. It seems whatever part of the mechanism is used to open the door, it is made of plastic and it breaks after little use.

Upper front door hinge on the chevrolet. S-10 crew has worn out where the pin anchors the door hinge bracket to the frame's hinge bracket, welded to frame.the failure of the pin's bushing has causedtheframe' hinge bracket to wear outin such a way that the driver's side front door hangs, and must be slammed shut to insure full closure. Due to this defect that chevroletmechanics stated they were aware off.the remedy to correct this dangerous hazard wasfor the owner to incur the costs of repair. The truckwas just a little over 4 years old from date of manufacturing with 77,000 miles. The dealer stated that the defect wascaused by normal use of opening / shutting door. This problem should be immediately addressed as vehicles displaying this defect werea safety hazard for the door(s) opening unexpectedly, possibly while the vehiclewas in transit. I am currently a police supervisor in command ofthedepartment'straffic safety division and was awareof this site for redress of problems.
On my 2003 chev s10, the pins and bushings on the drivers door hinge wore out with only about 30,000 miles on the vehicle.the door would sag and became difficult to close.i currently have an appointment to replace the pins and bushings at a cost of about $150.00 (w/tax).upon speaking to other late model (since 2000) gm product owners and repairmen at gm dealerships, it is evidentially common for these pins and bushings to wear out.i feel doors sagging and being difficult to close could potentially be a safety problem.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet s10. The galvanized steel tailgate support cables that retain the tailgate in the full open (horizontal) position corroded, and then fractured. He contacted the dealer in reference to nhtsa action number rq04012(structure:body:hatchback/liftgate:support device ). He has been informed that the vehicle was not eligible for a free remedy because the sonoma and s-10 vehicles differ from c/k models in several ways: the vehicle height is lower; the tailgate displacement (drop) when not supported by the cables is smaller and the tailgate comes to rest at a less severe tip angle when not supported by the cables; the tailgate mass is smaller; and the size, payload, and usage characteristics are less demanding than c/k model vehicles.he was in the process of having the vehicle repaired. Despite the contrary, the differences have not been substantiated because the failure of this component with the s10 model has been commonly reported to gm. The failure and current mileages were 96000.
Went to open the tailgate of my 2003 chevrolet s-10 pick-up, and both tailgate support cables broke. No injuries and no damage. Cost $10.00 each for the cables, but they need to be riveted to the bracket on the tailgate guide. I previously owned a 1994 chevrolet s-10 pick-up with the same problem. I replaced the cables twice on that truck by welding the rivet.

2003 s-10 pickup, vin [xxx] . When i took this vehicle to fletcher chevrolet for an oil change on oct 28, 2003, at 1,866 miles, i mentioned that there was a squeak coming from the front right suspension.they checked and heard the squeak.the vehicle was scheduled for repair on nov 17, 2003.on dec 3, 2003, 2weeks later, i picked up the vehicle and was told that the coil spring insulators were replaced.on dec 11, 2003, i went to fletcher chevrolet for an oil change and again mentioned having a squeak in the front.the front end was lubricated.this did not fix the problem but i procrastinated until june 7, 2004 before taking the vehicle back for service.fletcher chevrolet checked the vehicle and said that they needed to order upper control arm bushings.the vehicle was scheduled for repair on june 17, 2004.on july 1, 2004, 2 weeks later, i was informed that the vehicle was ready.this time they lubed joints and bushings, removed the stabilizer bar to grease bushings and replaced the stabilizer link bushings and upper bushings.this did not fix the problem.the noise still existed.the nice folks at the fletcher chevrolets service department explained that they had done all they could but since gm told them that my defect was not a problem stemming from drivability part of normal operation, additional work would not be performed under warranty to fix this defect. I called this number and spoke with sara hartmann.after checking she informed me that chevrolet knew that some s-10s were experiencing a suspension noise problem but it was characteristic of the vehicle and there was no known fix.in essence she is saying, to make me feel better, that i am not alone.i told her that this was my 4th s-10 and i did not have this problem with the others.she did offer me a smart care package consisting of free oil changes for 12 months or 12,000 miles.i would rather have the defect fixed. While driving down the road (luckily not fast and without traffic!!) . I felt a slight bump. First thought was i hit a pothole or ran over something in the road in spite of the fact i did not see anything. Naturally, i checked the rearview mirror and to my surprise, saw a wheel in the middle of the street which i know i did not run over- next thought was "its from my truck! thank god i was not on the highway !!".upon further inspection, i found that the spare tire retaining cable had rusted thru and allowed the wheel to drop off from under the bed of the truck. I called chevy to complain but was met with the anticipated resistance to warranty repair.i suggested to my wife that it would not be wise to drive behind any chevy s10 trucks!

I was pulling out from an intersection when something "jolted" the vehicle and made a noise like something hit the truck. Looking back in the rear view mirror, it was noticed that the spare tire was lying in the road and the car behind me almost hit it. I went back and picked up the tire. After returning home my father inspected the truck and said the cable had broken where the spare tire mount holds the tire up under the truck bed. The tire is cut in a couple places on the sidewalls and the bracket that should be on the end of the cable is missing. I didn't notice it lying in the road as i just grabbed my tire in a hurry because more traffic was coming.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet s-10. The contact stated that the spare tire cable fractured from the rear of the vehicle and caused the tire to detach. As a laid off automotive supplier, i have a keen interest in where my automobiles are made. A year ago, i purchased a new chevrolet s-10.nowhere on the paper work did i see nafta information, country of origin information, or percentage of foreign content listed, as required by law. In reviewing your laws on cafe (recent information in the news and political campaigns), i noticed the country of origin information, and the fact that they are still current.aala, i assume, still applies.my truck did not have that information listed.as a laid of automotive supplier, who collected this information, i know for a fact, that with all of the automotive cost cutting, the amount of us content is no longer high.at the auto show in january, i noticed all manufactures (foreign and domestic) except gm had this information promenantly posted on their sticker.please provide information on law changes (and why if changed) or gm's listing of content and how they are going to comply.
Cable holding the spare tire under the truck bed broke and the tire fell onto the road.
The vehicle experienced inadequate acceleration when pulling onto the highway. The engine revved but the vehicle wouldn't accelerate. The cause is undetermined.*nlm
Headlights dim without warning. On 2 occasions the headlights dimmed and failed.this reduces driver's visibility. As a result, the consumer drove off the road and went into a ditch.also, upon depressing accelerator pedal automatic transmission dropped into first gear abruptly.
I am the original owner of a 2003 chevy s-10 pickup purchased in june 2003 that has less than 35,000 miles.in february 2008 when driving in local traffic and perfect weather conditions i suddenly heard a roar that sounded like a diesel truck and lasted only few seconds.i had never heard such a noise from my truck.about one quarter of a mile later the roar returned and the accelerator spontaneously depressed.i had to stand on the brake with all my strength to try to slow the truck.i stood on the brake for a distance of about 30 feet.i ultimately hit the car in front of me.i had to continue to stand on the brake to keep it from moving forward even after the impact.the person that was driving the car in front of me walked back to me and suggested that i turn off the engine.this stopped the roar (or "revved up") engine.the truck was towed to the dealership, but no problems could be detected by the computer diagnostics or the chevy dealers mechanic to explain the acceleration.
Consumer complained about gas pedalproblems.the vehicle would accelerate by itself without consumer stepping on the gas pedal.dealer and manufacturer were contacted, and stated that was a normal function, and that consumer needed to step harder onthe brakes.

Windshield wipers stopped working.checked all the fuses and found no problems.windshield wipers well at times and stopped at very bad times; heavy rain times.after several days of chasing wires i found the micro soldering on the wipers computer board cracked in several places.the wire harness vibrated on it and the engine overheated it.the entire system needs a better attachment for the wire harness and some form of insulation from the engine.
This is second vehicle of previous complaint. We have two 2003 chevrolet s-10s where the wipers stop working during rain. In most cases during heavy rains while driving on highways and interstates. Vehicle has to be pulled over and the hood has to be raised to tap the motor to be able to continue.
We own 2-2003 s-10s same year models and color. The only thing different are the motors. Both have been having the windshield wipers go out while in a heavy rainstorms and on busy interstates.

105 to110 degree temperature air blowing onto feet with all heater controls shut off and in the coolest temperature setting. Dealer said this is normal, and provided a service bulletin from gm stating that on these trucks this situation is because of the pressure created by the wind blowing over the windshield, forcing the air into the passenger compartment. Very uncomfortable to drive.

Both wiper blades chatter on windshield of 2003 s-10. They do not wipe water off of windshield making it very difficult to see in rain or snow. This happens while driving or standing still but moving makes it worse. This vehicle was bought new in july of 03. Also owned a 98 s-10 that did the same thing. Dealers say that is just the way it is. I work for a tier 1 wiper systems manufacturer and test these things. That is not how they are supposed to work. This is a big safety issue. Very unhappy with the dealer's reaction.ng, indiana.
