Traveling at 40+ mph on a major highway, the driver either became unconsius for unknown reasons and went off the road. I went over an enbankment and into a ditch head on totaling the car. The airbag did not deploy but the car was totaled. The collision was a front impact into a hard ditch due to the drought status at the time. The front end was wrecked beyond repair and the airbag did not deploy. I feel that it malfunctiioned and want it reported before someone gets killed. I have reported to the insurance co and to gm.

While driving 30 mph had frontal impact with a mazda miata in which the front end was crushed, and the driver's air bag did not deploy. It did not protect the occupant in this accident.

The accident was almost head on mainly on the passenger side. The impact was hard the air bags went off in the other car but neither one of ours went off. For about a year prior to the accident the truck would stall at random times.

Dt: the consumer stated1996 chevrolet s-10 was involved in a crash. Upon impact,airbags did not deploy.the truck was hit by a tractor trailer. Driver sustainedsevereinjuries, including whiplash, a swollen head, cut and scraps, facial abrasions, and injuries to the chest/legs/stomach and a black eye. The seat belts did contain the driver to the seat. The driver had marks on the stomach left from the seat belt. But, the seat belts on the driver saved him from falling out of the vehicle. The driverhit the steering wheel with his face on the left side. The back window was shattered and front windowbusted, and the door came open. . the consumer was taken to an urgent care facility. The security and safety for consumer'scompany took care of the accident, and did not call the police. The company prepaireda report and hadpictures.

I was driving a chevy s-10 when a lady pulled in front of me.i was doing the speed limit of about 55-60 mph.i ended up hitting her car and in turn my truck rolled over several (6-10) times.the whole truck from bumper to bumper and side to side and topto bottom was destroyed.the truck was totaled.the seatbelt did its job but no airbag came out.i bought the truck used from a local car dealer here in concord 2 years ago.i am very bruised and cut and very upset that just maybe if that airbag had worked i would not have gotten all that glass along with everything else flying my way.i know that an airbag works when it is hit just right, but as i stated there is no part on that truck that was not hit including the front bumper as it is almost off the truck.the insurance company is taking control of the truck as we speak but there are numerous pictures and witnesses to this.i just want to know if something was wrong and that i did not put all my safety assurances into this airbag.thank-you for your time.christine floro

Four batteries and three alternators replaced in 4 years.*mjs

This battery has failed twice in 2 yrs. The battery terminals pull out leaking acid on cables and surrounding components and has also caused the alternator to fail. I saw a news brief in an auto publication that you had began looking into the problem on suburbans and tahoes. I have talked to other people who have had the same problem on other gm cars. I personally seen this happen on many gm cars with ac-delco batteries, i was an employee in a gm dealer for 21 years. I have contacted gm but have not received any assistance and this had happened over 2 months ago

There was a battery leak.fluid leaked onto the wiring harness cover and ate through toseveral wires. Also, defective brakes caused brake pads to wear out and rotors to corrode. Dealer has been contacted.

Turn signals malfunctioned.the a/c stopped working due to a faulty evaporator.the stabilizer bar broke on right side which caused drift/pull.engine coolant/antifreeze leaked.the ball joint for the right-front tire gave out.the alternator had to be fixed and replaced the battery. Speedometer seemed to be off by 5 mph.the windshield wipers would not work properly and stopped in the middle of a down-pour. The device to lower the spare tire had to be replaced.

I have been in heavy traffic once when this happened lucky no accident.most of the time it will start back up after ya let it set but there have been times where had to have truck towed to shop.they are working on the problem and the same dealer has another s-10 same year same motor doing the same thing.

Engine speed will increase from idle to 2400 rpm without throttle input.this condition has occurred both when the vehicle is in motion and when the vehicle is stopped.when in motion, this condition creates a sudden acceleration problem.the only way for the driver to get engine control back from the computer (?) is to shut off engine and restart.this is an ongoing problem - for a year now - and occurs several times a week.i have taken the vehicle to the local chevrolet dealership, but was told that they were unable to diagnose the problem because theengine check lightlight hadn't come on.i have also e-mailed chevrolet about this problem several months ago, but have received no reply or acknowledgement.aside from being an inconvieniance, this problem with the engine speed control is contributing to excessive brake and clutch wear, and has the possibility of putting the vehicle out of control with possible associated loss of life.please help.i have read of similar problems with other 1996 s-10's that seem to be related to a bad computer program in the pcm computer.chevy don't seem too interested in helping out, so you're my last hope in getting this problem addressed.thank-you.

Wiring harness failure.causes truck to shut down when moving.will not start.had repaired ( rigged ) because the cost to replace this is in excess of 400 dollars, now is acting up again. Had to replace fan clutch as well.

Trailer harness shorted causing dash light fuse to blow (no dash lights while driving at night). Additional failure was vehicle would not start. Short was caused by harness rubbing against the rear bumper.

Started having problems with the hazard/brake light fuse blowing occasionally about 2.5 yr ago... Recently the fuse blows almost as soon as you turn the vehicle on. Bulbs are good and lights work until the fuse blows. I've replaced the electrical system in the steering column twice in that same period of time. The most recent time had no effect on the fuses blowing.

Speedometer sticks, almost every trip after a short duration (5-10 min). Also, tachometer occasionally sticks during extended drives 3hrs or more. In addition,instrument cluster replaced under warranty after first failure. Speedometer up to 15 mph off. Forcefull tapping on instrument cluster will cause speedometer/tachometer needles to indicate current speed/rpm. Problem is independent of climate control temperature.

The bolt on the drivers seatback sheared causing the back of the seat to fall to a horizontal position./coolant became rusty causing the radiator to become cloged which caused the water pump to fail.

Have had problems with the windshield wipers from the beginning.i would be driving in pouring-down rain and the wipers would go out causing me to have to pull over.right now they do not work at all.i had to work on my brakes the first year and a couple of times thereafter. I recently had to have my air-conditioner done.the latest was my water pump that i fixed myself.the worse was my motor.i had been stalled a number of times till finally it wouldn't go at all.i had it towed to michael holley chevrolet in lakeland (the town i worked in).they refused to honor my smartcare saying i had not changed the oil.that was not true since i had changed it myself and had it changed also.they wanted over 3000 for a new motor.i am and was still paying on my truck and did not have that much cash.i had to tow it at my mothers and park it.i was able to change the oil and noticed that the chevrolet dealers had removed the alternator belt and had left it loose.that did not give me any confidence in them.4 months later my mother's car was totalled and she paid for me to get a motor from an amoco dealer.in september of 1999 my mother was surfing the net and found out that there had been recalls on this vehicle almost from the first and i have never been notified at all.i wrote to the home office in early september but received no answer.i still owe 2 years payments.if i had been traveling on the highway when my motor went out on me something bad could have very well happened.i feel sure that i will never trust in chevy's products again.

Mechanics evaluation is that possible failure could be from dex-cool coolant eroding gaskets.

On may 23 2000 the vehical was brought in for an over heating problem.the radiator was diagnosned as the problem and replaced. Then on oct 17 the vehicle was brought in for a heating problem. The problem was diagnosed as a blown head gasket. The gasket was replaced and the engine was flushed. The work was done per bulletin 99-06-012-012. I just discovered today that the engine has a rattling sound. It sounds like a bucket of bolts.

Timing chain noise conditions.inspector from ge capital inspected the vehicle based on the extended warranty contract.inspector indicated that oil change maintenance had not been maintained on vehicle and indicated oil was very black.oil changes were done on this vehicle every 3,000 miles.self-maintained vehicle for oil changes.last oil change: 35,718. Oil used was western auto oil, 10w30 advan. Technical service bulletin 87-61-21a, april 1998, subj: timing chain noise condition (replace timing chain).condition:vehicle may exhibit a clattering noise at idle speed originating from the timing chain and front cover area.chain wear in excess of the maximum travel of the timing chain tensioner may create noise that may be objectional to some customers.cause:lack of regular maintenance, as ref in owner's manual and the resultant lack of lubrication and buildup of deposits inside the engine may accelerate wear of the timing chain.in addition, there is a small lubrication hole in the front oil passage plug that could become blocked with debris if proper engine maintenance is not followed.correction:if the owner of the vehicle indicates a noise concern, inspect the timing chain and tension.in addition, confirm oil flow from the front oil passage plug and replace the timing chain, timing chain tensioner, and both the camshaft and the crankshaft sprocket if necessary to correct the noise.

They say my transmission is not one that seizes but it is locking up and bucking for some reason.i have to disengage, then speed up to get it to stop bucking.any ideas? this has occurred since i bought it used w/limited warranty.i can't afford $65. Everytime i need an estimate (down time) and this might be related to the recall.how can they tell which ones (not just vin) regarding special torque tool.. About 1 month ago i brought our 1996 chevrolet s10 pick up in to roundtree chevrolet for what i thought was an exhaust leak.it turns out that it needs a whole new engine.the mechanic said that a lot of 2.2 litre engines (as well as some big blocks)were doing the same thing because the factory made the pistons tapered which wears out the skirting.theis problem seems clear cut enough (a factory defect), but as soon as roundtree saw that we had an extended warranty on the vehicle they immediately turned to the extended warranty company.they want our service records before they authorize roundtree to continue.wal-mart supposedly keeps your oil change records so that you don't have to.well, we took the truck there every 3000 miles, but they can't locate any!they have given roundtree a verbal confirmation, but apparently that's not good enough.we don't feel we should make payments when there is no end in sight, and we told g.m.a.c. That they could just keep it!now what do we do?

While driving, at approx. 60mph, experienced sudden engine shutdown,rendering inoperative power assist/brakes and steering.on 4different occasions, dealer contacted tech. Asst. Network, was instructed to replace crankshaft position sensor.

Pull to side of road. Vehicle will not start, call tow truck. Tow truck driver arrives, vehicle starts. Take to mechanic, no problem found on system. Take vehicle home park it. Try to go some place else the next day. Vehicle will not start, try in 20 mim. Vehicle starts. Checked battery, good. Checked ground wire, good. Computer check good. Don't know, can you help? this is the second computer in vehicle. The orignal computer would not let the abs work. Chevrolet changed computer at 60-65000 miles. At a lose, in gilroy.

When driving in damp weather truck will just stop running, engine will not run it will turn over but will not start, if vehicle is left for a few hours it may start, after restart motor will race, speedometer will go from 0 to 80 mph heater motor will race up and down , vehicle has been taken in on numerous occasions to have electrical system checked out, but dealer was unable to find problem with electrical system, possibily engine related.

I recently had to have my air-conditioner done.the latest was my water pump that i fixed myself.the worse was my motor.i had been stalled a number of times till finally it wouldn't go at all.i had it towed to michael holley chevrolet in lakeland (the town i worked in).they refused to honor my smartcare saying i had not changed the oil.that was not true since i had changed it myself and had it changed also.they wanted over 3000 for a new motor.i am and was still paying on my truck and did not have that much cash.i had to tow it at my mothers and park it.i was able to change the oil and noticed that the chevrolet dealers had removed the alternator belt and had left it loose.that did not give me any confidence in them.4 months later my mother's car was totalled and she paid for me to get a motor from an amoco dealer.in september of 1999 my mother was surfing the net and found out that there had been recalls on this vehicle almost from the first and i have never been notified at all.i wrote to the home office in early september but received no answer.i still owe 2 years payments.if i had been traveling on the highway when my motor went out on me something bad could have very well happened.i feel sure that i will never trust in chevy's products again.

At the time there was no recall for this item.i called the dealer and was informed that this repair would be over $900.with no choice at hand, i did the repair myself.i completed the job in about 14 hours, plus the expenses of the parts. I didn't save my receipts because i didn't have any reason to believe i would need them. However, i did save the head gasket.some months later, i received a letter from chevrolet stating this was a factory defect and would be reimbursed for the work. I proceed to contacted the dealer and the chevrolet customer assistance center who issued me a case # of 06762207.they informed me that i would receive nothing without a receipt. Any assistance in this matter that you may be able to provide will be greatly appreciated.

Speedometer sticks, almost every trip after a short duration (5-10 min). Also, tachometer occasionally sticks during extended drives 3hrs or more. In addition,instrument cluster replaced under warranty after first failure. Speedometer up to 15 mph off. Bill states reprogram pcm for new antilock program ...called chevrolet customer assistance center today, because brakes failed today the same way they did before repair in 2000....i explained the s10 had been brought into dealership on 03/28/2000, as soon as i received recall notice, and that it appeared replacement was defective. ...i was advised that campaign ended 12/2002. When i reiterated that i had work done within parameters of campaign,but now same problem had reoccurred, i was advised it didn't matter, the campaign ended 12/2002. ...when i sarcastically said, so if i kill someone on way to dealership tomorrow because of abs failure, you're not responsible? the response was: only ifit happened before 12/2002.

Spare tire fell off the truck on driveway. Contacted dealer and informed them of the problem, i was informed that this had happened to 3 or 4 other truck's. I was told to hang on the phone while they checked for availability of the tire winch, and told that the part would cost me around $48,00 and that it was available.i contacted the area service rep.i informed him of my concern, as i stated to him what would have happen if the tire had fallen of the truck when or if i was on the highway doing 73 miles per hr. ? could it have cought the rear bumper and flip my truck. Or if it had missed me how about some one following at the same speed. I also told him that i was very concerned about being on the highway following bihind a chevy s-10. I think this is a very legitemate concern due to the poor manufacture / design of of this item. This item supports a full size tire on this truck's.the weight, i would venture to say is a good 50 lbs.and is only about 1/4 of an inch. Steel cable, that has to be winched tight so that the tire doesn't rattle in the back. It makes me wonder if this design hasn't allready cused some accidents on the highways.... Spare tire hoist cable fatigued near wheel retainer and tire fell from vehicle; theft deterrent cable kept tire from falling completely away and caused tire to lift the rear end of my truck.there is no apparent damage other than a bent rear license plate.i fear that this may happen to someone at highway speeds causing loss of control or if theft deterrent cable is not in place the tire may fall from underneath the vehicle and strike another vehicle or cause a road hazard.i was fortunate to be a few hundred feet from my home when this happened.the cable appeared to be fatigued at the point where the break occured.please contact me to assure that this information is processed.thank you.

The spare tire on our truck is loaded and unloaded by the use of a wrench which when inserted in a slot by the rear license plate and turned lowers and raises the spare tire. When fully raised, the tire rests against the bottom of the truck bed held there by the pressure of the cable which is used when lowering and raising the tire. The tire on our truck fell out onto the street bouncing off of the bottom of our truck and bending the rear license plate frame and breaking the spare tire cable assembly. Upon inspection i found that the cable had worn through and broke from friction and excessive movement because the tire was not pressed up against the truck bed firmly enough. I myself, a 50 year old male who has worked around automobiles most of my life had raised that tire into the spare well myself about 4 months ago. After inspecting the damage i discovered that the spare tire itself was down to only 10 lbs of pressure which i assume caused the accident.the tire when fully inflated and raised firmly into the spare tire well as it was poses noproblems that i can see. In fact i believe that it is a simple and practical way to access the spare tire. The problem arises when the spare tire loses it's air. In our case it was down to 10lbs that the tire loses it's exterior diameter or original thickness there by loosening it's friction hold on the bottom of the truck bed. This i believe is what caused the cable to break and drop the tire onto the street.excessive movement of the spare tire in my opinion caused the cable to break. I couldn't imagine something like this happening on the highway. We were lucky that it happened on a city street. Thankyou for taking the time to read this as i believe it is an important issue.

First dealer refused to repair under warranty and chevrolet was contacted. They also refused to repair stating they were following dealer's advice. Went to second dealer (continental chevrolet in countryside, illinois) and spare tire carrier was replaced at no charge. I never received any paperwork concerning repair of this carrier. I have no idea of the cost to repair. I did not press the issue of paperwork as it did get repaired. The damage included replacement of the tailgate as i dragged the spare tire behind the truck for a short distance, it was banging against the tailgate. It felt like the brakes were grabbing. Luckily i only had to travel a short distance to pull off the road. The cable lock, much like a bicycle chain and lock, is the only thing that kept a bad accident from happening. The vehicle behind me would have hit the tire at speed. Examination of the cable holding the tire revealed that it had worn out and snapped. Chevrolet shouldhave a record of my call to them concerning the warranty repair denial by arrow chevrolet. I should have contacted the nhtsa when it happened but i was more concerned about the repair. The repair consisted of replacing the assembly with a new one of the same type. I will be moving the spare tire to the bed as i can see there is cause for concern about the tire dropping again.

When entering my driveway at a very slow speed the cable supporting the spare tire broke and the tire dropped and wedged itself between the bottom of the truck, the rear bumper and the road causing the rear ties of my truck to be lifted from the road.the cable was sheared in such fashon as to indicate vibration caused it to break.has this happened at any normal driving speed the tire and wheel would have become potentially deadly projectiles and the i am sure the truck would have turned over.i want a better mousetrap under my truck and will not put this back without a lock and chain as a second line of security.

I have been having this problem off and on for the last 40000 miles, the dealer claims not to be able to locate anything wrong with the vehicle.

1) the head lights on my 1996 chevrolet s10 have never worked right.at first, when i turned on the igh beams, they would stay on for less than a minute, then i would lose the dashboard lights and the daytime running lights would come on.this situation is getting steadily worse.now the low beams are exhibiting the same problem.2) the headlights don't work, meaning that i can't drive it at night or when it rains.state law requires that the headlights be on when you use the windshield wipers.3) i have spent thousands trying to get this problem corrected, but the service personnel just take the money and never solve the problem.

While drivingheadlights will spontaneously cut off and stay off fof a couple of seconds to a couple of minutes. When light switch gets warm contact is open and lights fail until switch cools slighty.

Headlight effectiveness is extremely poor on both high and low beams. Checked voltage to lamps: solid 14.2v under all conditions. Contacted dealer and reviewed problem w. Service manager. Unable to recommend a solution and there is no factory recall on record.(have checked back several time since; still nothing from gm). Replaced both headlamps with napa after-market units at about10,000 miles; this change resulting in minor improvement, due mostly, i think, to wider beam spread, but over all performance is still the worst i have ever had on a vehicle (including my 6-volt 1934 plymouthwith no voltage regulator), and i have owned a lot of old vehicles with marginal lights.

Transmission went out at 61,000 while driving on highway @65 miles per hour, just quit on the highway, gmc wouldn't stand behind it, transmission shop rebuilt it and found a crack in the case due to it not cooling properly, had to put a larger cooler unit in the truck to handle the transmission for this truck. Timing belt went while going down the highway @65 miles per hour, everything locked up on the truck power steering, brakes and just died in the middle of the highway. Both situations very dangerous.

The ses light appeared and stayed on after approximately 1-2 hours driving at freeway speed.this happened on several occasions.after turning engine off overnight or for several hours, the light would go off.then after continued driving, comes back on again. While on, the transmission shifts extremely hard, jolting passengers.this occurred several times.took car to dealer for service but light was not on.service advised could not get ses code with light off.when ses problem happened again, took to dealer.service advised that ses problem coded to the transmission.manager advised that nothing was wrong with transmission, but problem was electical. Transmission man may be able to fix by placing a wire to bypass solenoid problem.when the transmission man tried to do so, he found that a wire was already in place.service advised that my blazer was a later model that already had the wire.he advised that nothing was wrong with the transmission, and to continue to drive until it failed to shift completely.a solenoid which controlled the shifting was sticking and causing the problem.when this happened i could shut off the engine completely, and the computer/ solenoid would reset and i could continue driving.otherwise the assembly body would have to be replaced.my problem is that this seems to be a problem chevrolet determined early on and tried to fix with the wire bypassing the solenoid.i'm expected to wait until it goes out completely, drive my car in 2d gear from wherever it is to the dealer, and pay to have the assembly body replaced, at my expense.what's wrong with this picture ?i would expect a known problem with the ses light/ solenoid to have been remedied prior to sale of a new vehicle.i would appreciate any guidance or assistance you can provide regarding this matter. In august of 1996 i purchased a 1996 s-10 pickup from reliable chevrolet in albuquerque. It was sold as a vehicle with 26 miles on it instead of the actual 7064 miles it really had. I had never bought a new car and they saw me coming. The legal part of that contract is being reviewed by the attorney general of new mexico and senator domenici. I notified chevrolet in michigan immediately, telling them about the fraudulent contract and the slippage in the transmission. I rarely drove other than to my two jobs. On the first extended trip outside city limits, the transmission suddenly refused to shift into thirdgear while i was passing. It blew a large amount of transmission fluid out the vent tube on the rear of the transmission. I have spent over $300.00 and a great deal of time and missed work trying to get reliable fix the problem. I found out recently that chevrolet installed a defective pump in the transmisson that cannot handle the pressure, forcing it out the vent tube and overheating the system while causing shift failure. Do you consider losing power suddenly when on a highway where the speed limit is 75 dangerous? i have nearly lost my life three times now because of my inability to go faster than 44 mph when the transmission locks like this. Only my skill as a driver has prevented you from seeing me in the fatality section. Chevrolet sent me 5 letters concerning their faulty windshield wipers, but no notice about a really dangerous and expensive condition they willingly keep quiet about. I am unable to drive my vehicle more than 25 miles in any direction before the transmission stops shifting properly and starts spewing fluid out the vent tube. This is a serious defect, it almost cost me my life 3 times now. At least 7 drivers had to swerve to avoid me as the truck lost power suddenly. Transmission shifts, especially when coming out of a turn, also slips on occasion.

There is a recurring problem with the ses indicator on my dash and transmission shifting that causes the light to come on during interstate driving.when exiting the interstate onto local roads the transmission shifts extemely hard jolting the car.after driving this way for a while the hard shift stops but the light remains on.i can get the light to go off by disconnecting the battery ground for a short time and reconnecting.this resets the car computer.i have taken the car twice to the dealer who was unable to draw a code from the diagnostic machine.i was charged for both attempts.i was told to just drive the car until the transmission went out and then bring it back in.this is ludicrous.i reported the problem to the chevrolet headquarters.i also took my car to a very reputable transmission shop where a code 1870 was pulled.there were five other chevy trucks there with the same code problem.my transmission man does some transmission work for the chevy dealer across the street and when he mentioned the code to their service dealer, he was told that they did not have a fix for the problem as they couldn't diagnose the cause.this is obviously a common problem, a production defect, that they wish would go away. This is a dangerous situation in so far that you cannot know when it will happen or if the transmission will work when it does happen.a real potential for an accident exists, yet mums the word from chevrolet.they would rather replace the transmission and let the consumer pay for it.the transmission is not the problem but the sensor is, since it controls the shifting of the transmission.my problem continues every time i drive for more than 30 minutes a high speeds.so far i haven't heard anything from chevrolet.i guess they would rather pay later.

On highway, billows of smoke appeared from underneath truck; engine stalled.when started up again, would not go over 35mph.mike at gerry lane chevy in baton rouge, la(repairing dealer) stated 'major internal failure' that at his best guess was from a loose part from the factory, which finally freed itself and caused failure.he described the underside of my truck as 'black' from the incident.i paid 1890.00 for a new transmission...mike sd failure was not due to driving habits or any neglect.

The transmission went out about a year and a half ago, i had it fixed under warranty, and now it is leaking fluid again. I am in the military in germany, and the geraman opel dealarship said the transmission had a one year warranty, so now i have pay for it myself. The truck has very low miles for 4 years, and it's already had two transmissions go on it. I'm not very happy with the way this has all turned out, because i really do like the truck, but now i will never buy a chevrolet again, and i have warned all my friends not to as well.

While driving at 45 mph heard a noise and had no reverse when trying to back up into garage. Dealer contacted, and stated that transmission was defective. Ealer replaced transmission. No recalls were established . Problem was remedied.

The day the transmission failed.we were traveling on the interstate going 70 mph when the truck made a funny sound and then it just locked up . The truck almost swerved off the road before i got control of it. Luckily no one was hurt but it could have been much worse. We would like to know why we were never made aware of the recall on this problem so we could of had this fixed. This problem would of been remied a long time ago and we wouldn't be in this position. We should of been told about this problem so we could of had an opportunity to get this fixed. This could of caused serious injury or possibledeath. I find this totally disbelievable and now we can't seem to get this matter cleared up. We seem to be getting doors closed in our faces.

We do not believe that the power train automatic transmission should have failed at 58788 miles.the vehicle is not used for off road, heavy hauling, or for any other purpose than normal city/highway driving.we paid $1987.74 for a new automatic transmission and want to know if other chevrolet s10 blazer owners have had similar problems at low mileage.we would also like to know if any factory/dealer recalls were out there that as an owner we were not notified.we have learned that other s10 blazer owners have experienced auto transmission failure but have no specifics on mileage or circumstances surrounding failure.please reply at earliest opportunity.thank you for any help/information you can provide.

Oil cooler line:the metal tubing in the lower oil cooled line rest on top of the steering gear assembly.a hole wore through the tubing due to being in direct contact with the gear box causing complete loss of engine oil while driving, loss of braking on driver side (due to oil spray on brake rotor) and near seizure of engine. I stopped on the side of the road to prevent major damage to the engine and possible fire in engine compartment. As of this writing i am still not aware if any occurred (engine damage).

In 1996 model s-10's and s-15's cheverolet tried a new slave cylinder and had alot of problems with them so they returned to the old style cylinder but left customers responsible to pay for them when they go out.gmc mechanic told me this.

A pin retaining the hydraulic hose from the slave to master cylinder worked its way out, allowing the hose to separate from the master cylinder.this resulted in a loss of fluid and loss of clutch movement. We operate a fleet of these s-10 and sonoma vehicles.the rear mounting studs for the bench seat are breaking out the sheet metal(due to metal fatigue?)the left side mount is right above the left frame rail.the brake and fuel lines are on top of this frame.we first noticed this condition 10/30/2000, and have found the same condition on at least 12 more vehicle, 1996 and 1997.i think the newer ones will also fatigue in time.i have digital photo's avail if requested.

I was involved in a traffic collision in which my brakes failed to stop my vehicle. When i pressed the brakes during a sudden stop, the brakes started to slow down my truck but then the pedal went all the way down to the floor with a rubbing noise and my truck kept traveling until i hit the vehicle in front of me.

The contact owns a 1996 chevrolet s10. While driving 35 mph, the abs malfunctioned. The contact stated that the abs engaged independently, and pulled the vehicle to the left. Furthermore, the vehicle lost brake functionality completely. Gilcrest chevrolet buick gmc in tacoma, washington was made aware of the failure and stated that the vehicle needed to be towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The contact stated that the brakes had been serviced by the dealer prior to this failure, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and stated that there was no recall on the vehicle. The contact cited nhtsa campaign number: 99v193000 (service brakes, hydraulic) as a possible cause of the failure. The failure mileage was 64,160.

Have had problems with the windshield wipers from the beginning.i would be driving in pouring-down rain and the wipers would go out causing me to have to pull over.right now they do not work at all.i had to work on my brakes the first year and a couple of times thereafter. I recently had to have my air-conditioner done.the latest was my water pump that i fixed myself.the worse was my motor.i had been stalled a number of times till finally it wouldn't go at all.i had it towed to michael holley chevrolet in lakeland (the town i worked in).they refused to honor my smartcare saying i had not changed the oil.that was not true since i had changed it myself and had it changed also.they wanted over 3000 for a new motor.i am and was still paying on my truck and did not have that much cash.i had to tow it at my mothers and park it.i was able to change the oil and noticed that the chevrolet dealers had removed the alternator belt and had left it loose.that did not give me any confidence in them.4 months later my mother's car was totalled and she paid for me to get a motor from an amoco dealer.in september of 1999 my mother was surfing the net and found out that there had been recalls on this vehicle almost from the first and i have never been notified at all.i wrote to the home office in early september but received no answer.i still owe 2 years payments.if i had been traveling on the highway when my motor went out on me something bad could have very well happened.i feel sure that i will never trust in chevy's products again.

When coming upon a stopped vehicle ( approx10 carl length ahead of my car ) i was traveling at about 25to 30 mph when i applied my brakes to gradually slow down but all i got was a vibration from the brake pedal but no braking.i continued a firm push on the brakes but rolled into the stopped vehicle without any slowing of my vehicle.i held the pedal down solid with no pumping. The truck in front of me sustained little if any noticeable damage. I had to be towed.

The truck itself is great , however the abs engaging at inappropriate times is a harrowing experience . When trying to break suddenly(someone in front or someone pulling out in front of me) when road is wet from rain the steering wheel shakes violently and brakes seem to pause before breaking.

When i reiterated that i had work done within parameters of campaign,but now same problem had reoccurred, i was advised it didn't matter, the campaign ended 12/2002. ...when i sarcastically said, so if i kill someone on way to dealership tomorrow because of abs failure, you're not responsible? the response was: only ifit happened before 12/2002.

Consumer received a recall notification in the mail regarding abs system, consumer dropped vehicle off at dealership and was advised that the vcm was reprogrammed, after proceeding to take the vehcile home the abs light came on after numerous attempts to fix problem consumer was advised that the vcm would have to be replaced and the consumer would be responsibile for the cahrges, after some deliberation on both sides gm customer service decided to apply goodwill to consumer's claim and cover the repairs, consumer was assured that the replacement of the vcm would fix the problem, however the abs light came back on, consumer tok vehicle to another dealership and diagnosed problem as being the ebcm needed to be replaced, but was advised they needed to go back to dealership that performed the original recall repair, consumer was advised again that she would be responsibile for repairs and again it was being disputed, finally the approval for repairs were given at no charge to the consumer, however the abs light did continue to come on after the repairs, consumer took vehicle back to dealership and it was discovered that a shorted pump needed to be replaced and the abs unit was replaced again, after all the numerous attempts to try and remedy problem the abs light still continues to come on.

Brake pads needed to be replaced too soon. Dealer says its normal.

I am the owner of a 1996 chevrolet s10, and read some of the complaints about spare tire separation from vehicle due to steel cable rubbing against the spare tire.i checked my truck and 3 strands of the cable had separated, and it looked like the cable was nearly at the half way point. When foot is released from accelerator pedal vehicle resumes speed and does not slow, creating longer stopping distances.

Ever since i have had my truck the windshield wipers have been very inconsistant.sometimes they turn on when i want them to, and sometimes they do not turn on.even when they do turn on they turn off in the middle of use.this has become a great hassle for me, because when they do not turn on when it is raining my visibility is very restricted.this has been very dangerous, for example, one time i was driving on the freeway and it was pouring down rain and my windshield wipers stopped working, and i could hardly see the road in front of me.

Have had problems with the windshield wipers from the beginning.i would be driving in pouring-down rain and the wipers would go out causing me to have to pull over.right now they do not work at all.i had to work on my brakes the first year and a couple of times thereafter. I recently had to have my air-conditioner done.the latest was my water pump that i fixed myself.the worse was my motor.i had been stalled a number of times till finally it wouldn't go at all.i had it towed to michael holley chevrolet in lakeland (the town i worked in).they refused to honor my smartcare saying i had not changed the oil.that was not true since i had changed it myself and had it changed also.they wanted over 3000 for a new motor.i am and was still paying on my truck and did not have that much cash.i had to tow it at my mothers and park it.i was able to change the oil and noticed that the chevrolet dealers had removed the alternator belt and had left it loose.that did not give me any confidence in them.4 months later my mother's car was totalled and she paid for me to get a motor from an amoco dealer.in september of 1999 my mother was surfing the net and found out that there had been recalls on this vehicle almost from the first and i have never been notified at all.i wrote to the home office in early september but received no answer.i still owe 2 years payments.if i had been traveling on the highway when my motor went out on me something bad could have very well happened.i feel sure that i will never trust in chevy's products again.

The part is appx $50.00 it appears that to replace the part all you have to do is remove the cover and swap out the part .looks to me that it should not take more than a few mintues. Checked with my dealer after my wipers began working intermittently, and i read about the recall but was told my vin # was not one of the affected units. The problem i am having is the windshield wipers stop without warning, sometimes they restart and sometimes you must stop the vehicle and pull on them. Aluminum alloy wheels are oxidizing under the clear coast and flake which weakens the metal.
