The contact owns a 1991 chevrolet s10 pickup. While driving approximately 60 mph with a boat in tow, the vehicle began to fish tail. The contact was able to steer the vehicle to the shoulder of the road and crashed into the railing. A police report was filed. The contact noticed a cable from the spare tire hoist had fractured and caused the failure. The boat and vehicle were damaged, as well as the spare tire, rim and rear axle of the trailer. The trailer springs welding was also damaged. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer for diagnostics. The manufacturer also advised that the spare tire hoist was not covered under warranty. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician confirmed that the spare tire hoist wire was fractured. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 199,000.
