I was driving home from work when a woman using her cell phone changed lanes into my lane without looking. Causing me to have to jam on my brakes and swerve to miss her. Upon doing this action my vehicle shut off and i rear ended her. I believe there is a defect in the ignition system as i have also had my ignition lock up and couldn't get the key out. When my air bag deployed it also quick deflated. I believe this should have been caught a long time ago and this accident would not have happened.

Abs braking in my 2003 chevy monte carlo i was 2 cars lengths away from a ford bronka for whom i rearended, i was looking to turn in qt parkinglot then i looked back and the cars ahead had stopped. I hit the breaks expecting to be able to avoid the contact but the breaks just locked up and the air bag did not deploy thank god for seatbelts. As the movement of the car was sliding forward and i had my foot pumping to slow but every time i touch the pedal it would just lock up. I tried this twice and them i just braced for the hit when we hit my foot was jammed back on the break now i have a broken foot.

I took my 2003 chevy monte carlo into circle chevrolet in shrewsbury, n.j. Because my car's air bag symbol had came on on my dash board.it had initially came on saturday july 2 in the late afternoon. I immediately came home and did not drive my car until july 6, 2016 for service.... Becausethe cars owner manual says on page 3-30 " if the air bag readiness light stays on after you start the vehicle or comes on when you are driving, your air bag system may not work properly.have your car serviced right away. "service told me it would take about 1 1/2 hours to look at it. I was there 4 hours instead !then they charged me $ 123.05. Told me they could not check the car unless the light was on. They never told me till the end.but they managed to give me a laundry list of other things, that had nothing to do with the air bag !i had told them i am disabled. My neck is fused and the last thing i need is for the air bag to inflate or not inflate at all.evidently, this company has no heart and took my money. There has to be something wrong with the air bag, to cause the light to be intermittent !!!!!!!in closing .... I only wanted them to check the air bag problem.only for them to tell me, the light has to be on for them to check the car ?????!!!!!they never told me that until they took my money ! i have never seen the air bag light since i took ownership of the car in 2003.

My car is a 2003 monte carlo,if i try to use the directional signals they make a buzzing sound and then thebrake light and the air bag light comes on along with the battery light,no signal works, the hazard lights work , i replaced the hazard switch but that didnt solve it .batter isfine and the alternatori had them checked there is no relay for the directionals its all in one .something isstrange going on i also noticedsometimeswhen your drivingthe those threelights will start comingonas well .ihadput upthe windowsand they all went on too, sometimes just when driving it or even stoppedhad this car since it was brand newnever had a problem till a few weeks ago

Heater/ac blower motor operation is intermittent. May be covered under tsb #030603 nhtsa id 10001884. Was informed by 2 chevy dealers that this is not a problem with this vehicle. Got your service #'s from an auto question and answer article in my local paper. The writer has the same vehicle as the mine. And reports the same problems.

The ignition causes the car heater and air lights on dash to goout while driving.

Security light on the dash comes on and vehicle will not start. This continued to happen during the past year and seems to be increasing in frequency. Seems as though there are many many gm owners that are having the same problem and in talking to gm they know about the problem but state it is the owners expense to fix the problem which ranges from $500.00-$750.00. With the multitude of complaints i feel gm should be issuing recall. I have been stranded numerous times late at night alone and safety is an issue. You never know where or when your car won't start!

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet monte carlo. The contact received a recall notice for the air bags and took the vehicle to the dealer for repairs. The failure recurred after the repair. While operating my vehicle at various speeds my vehicle appeared to lose power at the dash. Certain dash instrumentation and the ac blower motor would just stop operating, for no apparent reason. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where their first diagnosis was a bad ac blower motor that was causing the issues as mentioned. The dealer charged $365 for a new ac blower motor to be installed. After the new ac blower motor was installed and within the first 5 miles after leaving the dealership, the brand new ac blower motor stopped working. Vehicle was taken back to the dealership, where they now determined that it was a faulty ignition switch that needed to be replaced and that it was not the blower motor as previously diagnosed. I asked about the recent recall on ignition switches and i was informed that only the ignition key is covered under the recall and not the ignition switch. A new ignition switch was installed and now everything appears to be ok. I contacted the dealership in an attempt to get my money back for the cost of installing an ac blower motor that didn't need to get replaced. The dealer refuses to reimburse me the $365 for what i had paid for the ac blower motor. They claim that the ignition switch is not covered under any recall.i am claiming that the ignition key switch was damaged and ultimately failed as a direct result of the current recall key issues for my model and year vehicle. I should be reimbursed the $365 that i paid for an ac blower motor that i really didn't need. The recall should not just cover the ignition key, it should also include the ignition switch if it proves to be defective and/or has been compromised in any way by the ignition key itself.

The security light started flashing along with the head lights and dome light. Now the light stays on,the doors wont lock or unlock, the trunk button don't work, and it only starts when it wants to. I have not done anything to fix it yet, but i heard gm has not either and i think this is crazy considering all of the people with the same kind of issue. 2003 monte carlo ssthey say it is around 500 to fix their mess that they pawned off on me. This is my first gm car and probably the last.

Vehicle continuously experienced an electrical system failure. As a result, there'was an electrical shut downwhich resulted in the engine dying/ steering wheel locking up, and loss of brake power.

The light that comes on when you open the passenger door (under the dash) stayed on with the door shut.the light bulb, burned the plastc around the wires and started the carpet on fire under the dashboard.my husband removed the light bulb and burned his fingers to put the glowing carpet out.then, my turn signals worked sometimes and then at other times did not.they eventually stopped working all together.i took the car for repairs and was told that a relay switch had gone out.next, some of the lights on the temperature control panel went out.not all of them.they replaced my radio because the buttons were peeling.the next day, half of the lights on the radio went out and then came back on.the dealer actually told me that sometimes a new radio's lights will not all kick on right away.this may take some time and if they go out again, i should bring the car back.are they kidding me?i can't believe they are telling me this.there is obviously a problem here.

A.c. Clicks on and off, lights blink while driving, sometimes don't want to start unless it disconnect battery. Lights on dash cluster don't worland security light on

Tail light failed. Dealer stated there was an electrical problem.

My 2003 monte ss had been smoking and having problems accelerating & shiftingand put on testers and read code andi needed a air flow sensor so i had that put on, was recommended i get tune up so i got that, and had just put new battery in the car. The following day after putting gas in the car i was leaving gas station and lost acceleration again and the car smoked again. I soon lost all power including gas & breaks and windows. People passing by were honking and said the underneath of car and under hood had flames in front of car. I had to throw it in park and jump out because the peddles quit working and the car exploded in flames and had i not had my window down i would have been locked inside and could have lost my life. The engine and whole electrical wire harness had caught fire and the car burned up with 3-5 minutes. This was our only car and the only means of getting disabled child to the appointments he needed and to work and has put hardship on our family.

Once my car peaked at 100,000 miles the security light came on and never shut off. Sometimes the car startand sometimes it wont. Once i was in the middle of traffic when it cut off on me. While driving all the lights on the car would start flashing uncontrollably. Their is loud clicking noise coming from the whole panel. Now the car is sitting in my driveway unable to start. I have been reading tons and tons of forums about several hundreds of people that has experienced this exact same problem. Why hasn't gm recalled this problem?

Chevrolet monte carlo z-34 1997, electrical problems and idling high.the alternator was replaced, however the noise is still there.

2003 chevy monte carlo. "security" displayed in message center. While driving at night my headlights flash on and off,my doors will not lock or unlock and trunk will not open using inside buttons or wireless remote. I have contacted severalother people with same problem who have spent hundreds at chevy garages to fix this, with no resolve. I talked to a chevy mechanic who said they are seeing alot of these "manufacture security defects"and eventually my car will lock down and not run, so where is the recall to correct their issue.

When i get in the car at times and pout key in ignition, there is absolutely nothing. The electrical system is dead. I have to disconnect the negative on the battery for about 2 minutes to get it to work again. I also experience flashing dome light, brake light on, ignition bell ringing with nothing in it, also indicators on dash panel, security, battery, door open, low fuel, change oil soon, and they will not stop showing until i disconnect the battery again and set system. I put a compete new ignition in it, both the key part and the ignition block and i still have this problem. I was told by chevrolet dealer that there is no way to bypass the security in this car because there is a chip in the starter that prevents this. When i get out of the car and press the lock on the key fob remote, the horn blows as an indicator that the car is locked, but i can walk over and open the doors every time. The lock system for the doors is not working electrically either. I am at odds as to what to do with this problem because before i spend money to fix it, i would like to know what is causing it first. All the dealers want at least $119.00 just to diagnose the problem. And, i feel that if they want my service they could give me a break and then fix my problem. That would bring e back again and again. If you can, please help me here. The chevy dealer said gm doesn't even have a fix for this issue each and every time this has happened, the vehicle was stationary and not running initially.ingersol chevrolet says there are no recalls on the ignition system for my 2003 monte carlo ss 3800, 3.8 vehicle.

I have a 2003 montecarlo ss with a 3.8 engine. Recently within the last couple of months my security light has come on. Have been told it is the pass lock. In order to shut it off i stop the car shut off lock and unlock doors and the light goes out. I have also been told this could either shut the car off or not start. Big problem. It could come on while driving or stationary.

The drivers side of the car suddenly started blowing only hot air, while the passenger side was cold. The air-conditioning was set on maximum cool with both temperature sliders set to their maximum coldest setting. After checking on the internet, i found numerous message boards with thousands of gm owners complaining of the same issue.

While driving at any speed the ignition system would reset lighting up the display cluster just as if the key was turned off and back on.this would cause a momentary shutdown of the engine.the problem seemed to be more prevalent while turning the wheel for a curve or turn off the road.the turn signal unit was first suspect since it seemed to correlate with applying the turn signal and turning the wheel. The condition worsened to the ignition shutdown for longer periods shutting down the engine causing steering and braking to be shut down and finally difficulty starting the car.after 2 visits to a gm service center the problem was found to be a faulty ignition that was replaced and the problem has not recurred.

This car has a problem with the security system.it will either crank up, then quit running and not crank back, or it will shut off even while it is being driven.this is what happened on 12/14/12.i was on my way home after picking my daughter up from her grandmother's house when the car just shut off.i was approx. 15 minutes from home and called my wife to pick up the baby while i tried to get the car started back.after trying for another 15 minutes, for a total of 30 minutes trying to get the car to crank back up, the car finally cranked up and i was able to get it home.i was lucky that time, it was not during the busier times of the day, but what if i hadmy daughter with me and this happened on a major highway?i would not be able to replace the life of my little girl if it had happened on a major highway and resulted in a fatal collision.

My car randomly flashes the security light on the dashboard. I've made some research on the internet and it seems like alot of cars of the same make and model experience the same problem. Sometimes my car does not turn on until about 10min of letting it just sit there. Please fix this problem as i believe it should be a recall.

I was driving home from work and was involved in a car accident, where i rear ended another vehicle. I was shaken and unaware of what happened as it happen extremly fast. As i hit the vehicle in front of me i had no control of my vehicle. My air bags deployed but it was seconds after the impact which i though was very odd. When i treid to move my vehicle off to the side of the road i noticed the ignition switch wouldn't turn. After playing with it for several minutes i was able to move the vehicle. I just thought is was because of the accident. Since then my ignition switch has locked up 2 different times, making me connect all the dots back to my accident. I belive this ignition switch caused my accident.

The remedy in part says "the engine's plastic 'beauty' cover and plastic oil fill tube extension will be removed, if they haven't been already, also free of charge." if they do not replace this part it detracts from the appearance, and also devalues the car! the repairs should be required not to affect the value of the car!!thanks

2003 chevrolet monte carlo.consumer writes in regards to removal of engine plastic "beauty" cover and plastic oil-fill-tube extension recall notice.

Since september of 2013 this is around the 5th time this happens. When you turn the ignition to start the car the engine just won't turn over. Then after a while it starts. All the other electrical things happen like lights, radio but the engine just won't turn and it's not the battery. A couple months ago it happened again in the morning and in the afternoon after work i took it to dealership and they could not find the problem as it did not happen with them. They could not mimic the problem so they could not figure what was wrong.

I had to replace my cat converter at approx. 65,000 miles, have intermittent headlight failure when switching from high to low beams, certain lights on the stereo and climate controls have gone out, and security/key lock cylinder issues, where the car won't start for an hour or so. Car now has 86,000miles, issues still exist. This is the jeff gordon edition

I have had to repair/replace my cooling system twice, at my own expense. I own a 2003 chevy monte carlo. Dexcool coolant which is the only coolant recommended for gm cars is all that i have used since i have owned the car (bought new). There is a recall on dexcool that is under litigation, however, my manifold is now cracked from the dexcool gunking my engine. Once again, i am stuck with the bill. Gm is denying there is a problem, but there are other owners who have had this problem. Please help- i am out of money, and a car.

I purchased a 2003 chevy monte carlo in april 2011 from a used car dealer pmm auto sales whom i trusted and dealt with for years, with less than 115,000 miles andwithin less then 30 days there was signs of minor problems. When i attempted to have the vehicle checked by the car dealership. I was pushed to the side mainly bc im a female. I did notice a white film when i check the low oil pressure light but i didn't think anything of it bc of my lack of knowledge. Come to find out the intake valve gasket was gone andneeded to be replaced. The warranty co. Also swindled me only paying for a small percentage of the repair. Leaving me with a major repair bill on a car purchased less than 30 days ago. The mechanic knew the prob b4 i explained it to him in detail and/or any significantresearch. He std that it is a common flaw on these car models. Sad to say but i got beat in more than one way.

I have a 2003 chevrolet monte carlo. Beginning in august of 2006, my check engine light came on one day so i took the car to the dealer to have it checked. The diagnosis was an exhaust rocker stud had pulled out of the cylinder head. They heli coiled it ,and it was fine for a while. Then in sept. 2006, the same thing happened again, this time the opposite cylinder head. This time they fixed 3 of the studs. Now march 2007,the first cylinder head has the same problem. The dealer was unable to repair the head so it was replaced. While the car was there, the technician removed the cover from the opposite and found one rocker was loose again,so they removed that head and sent to a machine shop. I have an extended warranty on the car but still ended up paying close to $300 on my deductible and rental car. In seven months i have the same problem, there's got to be something wrong. Is the some way i can get the manufacturer to do something?8jb

I have an 2003 monte carlo ss 3.8 . I have had loss of power . It wont go past 4 grand on the tac. I have replaced the plugs and plug wires, coils, fuel filter, idle sensor, tps sensor, egr, i have had the fuel pump pressure check it is 55 psi. I think it may be the catalytic converter. I noticed they were recalled on the 01 & 02 models why not the 03 models?

Purchased the option called "driver info" center which gives you gal of fuel used, range you can drive on the remaining fuel in tank, mile per gallon, temperature features.the unit was off by 4 gal with a 17 gal tank.gm admits it is 18% off and refuses to fix the unit because not enough people know it doesn't work the way it should yet they continue to sell it.

I own a pristine 2003 monte ss, stored every winter and maintained by my mechanic husband.i have 2 issues with the car.first, i never use my bright lights because my headlights go out if i do.second i am having brake issues.i have had the same thing with a silverado truck before.abs would come on a slow speeds when not needed, dry pavement or gravel.really scares me because i had an accident in my silverado truck from this same problem.now my abs light and service traction control are always on and not working.i have been a die hard chevy owner but i am so unhappy with the break systems in them.i have another foreign car that i drive in the winter and love the brakes.

Low beam headlight failure, both low beams and daytime running lights do not work. Taillights work, parking lights work.

Driving at night, with high beams turned on, all lights go off! not good at 55-60 mph!

Headlights go off while driving at night switching from high beams to low beams!

Tail light failed. Dealer stated there was an electrical problem.

I have a 2003 chevy monte carlo ss.on july 31, 2009 the vehicle stalled while on an entry ramp onto the garden state parkway.i lost power steering and braking but was able to pull over to the shoulder and restart the vehicle.over the course of the next several weeks the vehicle would stall intermittently either at stop lights, approaching stop lights/signs, while turning in the middle of intersections or while highway driving.i initially took it upon myself to pop the hood and see if there were any obvious issues.i noted a leaking fuel fitting that would spew fuel when moved around in the slightest.i brought this to the attention of my local chevy dealer.they replaced the whole fuel line (i was told they cannot just replace the little plastic fitting), the fuel injection system was 'serviced' and i was told my steering column had to be replaced because the knuckle joint was about to snap because it was almost fused.several days later the stalling issue arose again.i brought the car back to the dealership and they had it for 2 days (i even let their mechanic take the vehicle home in the hopes of reproducing the issue).they were unable to offer a solution because they couldn't have the vehicle stall while in their possession.several days later it again stalled.i contacted gm corp. And they said that i need to bring it back to the dealership again to look at.this stalling issue does not happen frequently enough to be able to diagnose while in their possession and i am being told that there is nothing that can be done.i have no confidence in driving the car because i lose all power functions (i.e. Steering/braking).the vehicle only has about 65,000 miles on it and has been maintained properly.the dealership even told me the car is 'in good shape'.this is a serious safety issue and a potential threat for accidents.

Very common problem with transmissions in the 2000-2005 impala and monte carlo models. Transmission makes going in motion from a stop delayed. Transmission has been serviced on/replaced twice. Has caused a minor accident only because both parties were going slow.

Transmission delayed first gear engagement (slips).defective pressure valve replaced by dealership " per service bulletin".

Constant hard up-shift / downshift action unless continual power applied. Possibly a torque converter lock-up.mr

Just purchased 2003 chevrolet monte carlo ls 2d today, vehicle has1st gear engagement (slips),when pulling off from stationary position vehicle will lose power then jerk/clunk forward like being hit from behind only occurs when pulling off from stand still position or making turns, also noticed dash board panel is separating from airbag compartment and glue/foam showing.

While driving the car to work, heard a clunk-grind sound on a right turn. Drove to work anyway on the freeway - about 15 minutes. When pulling into my parking spot, turning right, the clunk-grind sound appeared again and then just made a grinding sound. After having the car towed to a chevy dealer, was told it was a broken right-front axle.the dealer is currently repairing, but the car is less than two full years old and has only 41,500 miles. I called chevorlet customer service and they are picking up almost 50% of the $600 repair bill.thank goodness this didn't break while i was driving 75 mph. On the freeway!

2003 monte carlo ss.new problem, but occurs every time this sequence of events is followed.traction control light on dash comes on after backing up with steering wheel turned, then shifting to drive and moving forward.light is accompanied by growling sound from front end.pavement is dry, so there is no valid traction issue.light turns off after 5 - 10 seconds and growling sound disappears.have not had vehicle checked out by chevrolet yet, but i see a huge expense coming.appears to be a common problem on the monte carlo / impala based on various website reports.seems chevrolet should have some responsibility here.

Driver's side seatbelt retractor does not retract the seatbelt properly.once i park the car and release the seatbelt,i manually have to pull the seatbelt up to the retractor. Otherwise, the seatbelt will just hang there.

Within 3 weeks after purchase of vehicle, front brakes began squealing erratically, causing abnormal dusting and premature wear of brakes.problem is continuous.*nlm

The rotors of my 2003 chevrolet monte carlo ls need to resurfaced or replace every 6000 miles, otherwise i will feel the shaking/vibrating of the brakes when i try to slow down or stop at high speed.

Having the common traction control and abs problems with my 2003 monte ss.cant believe this isn't part of a recall and only a tsb.at this point there doesn't seem to be an exact answer on what to have replaced to fix the problem.just spend alot of money and hope you had the correct repair.traction active comes on at slow speed and dry roads.usually after backing up and then turning sharply.anti locks have even engaged when they shouldn't. Again at slow speeds and dry roads.i'm appalled because i had the same problem with my chevy truck that caused me an accident.i'm very fearful of another accident. Gm had an investigator check my truck and they took responsibility for that brake failure.going to try the wiring harness first and go from there i guess.

2 complaints. When starting off from a stop position and making a hard left the service traction system light comes on and the trac off light comes on and the abs light comes on and the car makes a grinding noise. Only does this at this time. The second complaint is the overhead driver control panel will not come on and then after driving a ways it will come on. When off the air or heat or defrost will not work. I have replaced it once and now it is doing it again. I have not done anything about the lights for the traction.

- the contact stated that while driving the2004 chevrolet monte carlo with 46000 failure mileage at 40 mph on a snowy day he noticed a vehicle stopped in the fast lane of the highway.the contact applied the brakes, but could not stop in time and struck the vehicle.there was damage to the front end of the vehicle, butthe airbag did not deploy. The vehicle had to be towed.

Bought new 2003 monte carlo ss.brakes have gone out, abs kicks in prematurely, traction light comes on.body throttle has cracked.bought december 17, 2002, as of date been in shop six times. *nlm

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet monte carlo. While driving various speeds, the check engine, service traction, and abs warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the front wheel hub with the abs sensor needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the front driver and passenger side wheel hubs were replaced; however, the failure recurred. Neither the manufacturer nor the dealer were contacted or notified. The approximate failure mileage was 127,856.

Dt: the contact stated when attempting to pass another vehicle thecontact's vehicle lurched forward.she pressed the brake pedal to the floor but the vehicle would not stop.she then placed the vehicle in neutral, which slowed the speed. The vehicle eventually stopped. When she took the vehicle to an independent repair shop, the mechanic determinedthat the throttle was stuck.the mechanic cleaned the throttle system, and replaced the brake pads.the brakes appeared to be damaged as a result of her attempts to stop the vehicle.this was not covered by warranty.there have been no further problems.

Brake rotors were turned twice and then finally replaced after repeated grabbing/vibration while braking occurred.dealer finally replaced front brake rotors when i brought the vehicle in for the third time.there was no charge to me (warranty covered it).

Dt:the contact stated the steering wheel vibrated excessively when applying the brakes.the first time he took the vehicle to the dealership they turned the rotors.this remedied the problem for approximately 30-60 days.the second time the vehicle was taken to the dealership they replaced the rotors.the rotors have to be turned approximately every 10,000 miles.this procedure has not remedied the problem at this time.

Brake/rotor problems.the car has had continuous problems with the brakes vibrating/grinding.i have had two sets of front brakes put on the car, one at 32,000 miles and again at 65,000 miles. At 32,000 miles the car had warped rotors that they said was causing the vibrating.within a year, they are vibrating again.i am 46 years old and never had car to have warped rotors.the car makes a lot of noise when braking at higher speeds - around 55 - 60.i love the car otherwise, just can't seem to get the brake problems corrected.

During inspection, the consumer was informed that the front and rear rotors were coming apart. The dealership replaced the rotors. Consumer replaced front rotors and pads at her expense and was reimbursed by the manufacturer.mechanic said the rotors were made of pressed metal that flaked apart which made the brakes wear out.

2 problems with brake system - (1) brakes squeaked until at least 8,000 miles.(2) front brake rotors required turning after 9,500 miles.had massive vibration from steering wheel which prompted rotor turning.

Failure of rotors (front) continue to require turning after normal driving at 6,500 miles.

Brake problems, rotors turned before 8,000 miles due to vibration.brakes now ssqueal and pull to the right. Involved in accident hit another car and when i tryed to get it stoped the brakes pulled hard to the right causing me to hit a elect.pole.seat belt did not lock air bags did not deploy.

I have taken my 2003 monte carlo in three different times for rotor vibration.i have been in talks with gmac and they are now telling me the dealership says it is due to driver habits.this is so unfair, seeing as they decided to replace a calipher on my last service call saying this is what caused the whole problem.now i have to hear the brakes "scrubbing" as i stop, it sounds like a 4-wheel drive truck!they say this is due to the brakes "wearing into" the new shape of the rotor.sigh, so much for being exicited over your $378.00 a month vehicle.all that has been done so far is the rotors have been turned three different times and right side calipher replaced.(they tried to charge me but then they "found"the calipher has stuck).

Rotors required to be turned four times and ready to be turnesd again for a fifth time

While driving and upon pressing the brake pedal vehicle vibrated. Took vehicle to the dealer, and was toldvehicle needed new brakes and rotors. Had the repairs done. However, problem recurred.

Brakes were changed @ 32,000 milesstill was having vibration when i pressed the pedal took to the dealer for them to check 4 times and they said nothing was wrong.recently i had to take back for oil change, rotation of tires i told them to check again and my rotors had to be turned but, they did not change the brake pads said they still had 75% wear.the rotors cost me over $100.00.i am still having vibrationwhen i drive and rubbing when i press my brake pedal.i had my car aligned @ the dealer when the rotors were turned.now i am going to get them to check my brakes again.

2003 chevrolet monte carlo has brake and fuel lines that have rusted out. Consumer states that the dealership said this is normal.*nj

January 11, 20152003 chevrolet monte carlo - vin: [xxx], mileage:approx 120,000since october 2014, the car shuts off while driving.i loose the power steering and it's very scary if you are on the freeway.it's hard to bring to a stop and sometimes when i shift to park it makes a horrible grinding noise.it always restarts after i sit awhile and drives like nothing has happened..it has happened numerous times and now it's happening more often. It could cause a bad accident. It's to the point i am very scared to drive it, because i never know when it's going to happen.last wee it happened three times.i took it in for the recall where they modify the key.it did not help.my excellent mechanic said he has never had a situation like this where he can't figure out what's wrong. (incident information will not let me enter dates).information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Owned since 2007, no recalls active, older recall replaced intermediate steering shaft, have same problem again! also abs/traction control/speed sensors issue: humming, grinding, trac off lights, abs lights. Common issue with these cars yet no fix by g.m ??

When the car is being put into reverse, the gear shifter sticks and is very hard to shift. I have to put force on it to shift gears.

Dash panel pulling away from air bag compartment on passenger side glue and foam is showing.

The body ground effects molding in the rear of vehicle is separating from the rest of body. Looked underneath vehicle, and the latch broke that holds the molding into place, and looked like one other was cracking.

The whole front end of the car is making anoise and it is wobbling all over. I replaced the struts and it did not help it has been well maintained something is just not safe up there in the front suspension.i think they used as cheap of parts as they could get.it feels as if there are zero shocks on the car.

Problems with the suspension, ignition switch, turn signals not working, security system not resetting.had to replace the ecm.

Consumer noticed while traveling 40 mph on wet pavement that front tires were flat due to stabilizer bar beingbent.

Axle broke sudently on the highwaythus provocing the car to stop outside in the field..gmnor the dealership refuse any responsability. Car is under 36000 miles warranty.car has only 23000 miles and was regularly serviced at the dealership.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet monte carlo. After the vehicle received an oil change, oil was seen leaking from the engine. In addition, the vehicle overheated, the check engine warning indicator illuminated, and smoke emerged from the hood. The contact stated that, after replacing the radiator, there was a coolant leak. The contact also stated that the key fob failed to work. Furthermore, the tires were replaced and rotated, but the tire pressure warning indicator remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the oil leak was due to a faulty catalytic converter. The vehicle was not repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was informed and did not assist. The failure mileage was 174,034.

Problems with the suspension, ignition switch, turn signals not working, security system not resetting.had to replace the ecm.

We bought this car in july 2003, my wife is the main driver and when she first drove the car her foot slipped underneath the brake pedal after further research i found that the brake pedal in the 2003 chevrolet monte carlo is 1" higher off the floor than other cars and trucks made by gm's her foot has slipped under it again and now she is afraid of driving it in fear of not being able to stop the car when it is really needed. The brake pedal is a safety issue and needs to be fixed it is a manufactures defect and can cause an auto accident or even hitting someone and hurting or killing them as a pedestrian.

2003 chevrolet monte carlo.consumer requests vehicle recall information.

Torque converter failure

The heater fan kept turning on and off and i hadto have a new ignition switch put in . At times the fan would quit working while going down the road.other times the fan would not turn on.the cruise light would blink when the heater fan was turned on and the cruise would quit while driving down the road.. I saw on the news last night where there was a recall. I've not recivedany info.

The ignition causes the car heater and air lights on dash to goout while driving.

Consumer stateswhile vehicle is stopped at a light or stop sign the consumer wouldpress on the gas pedal . The vehicle would not accelerate, and suddenly it would accelerate. Dealer notified. *ph

I was traveling at 40 mph, had my rear defroster on, had static on my radio and i turned off the defroster and then boom my rear window blew out and crackled and popped. I thought maybe i blew a tire and was going to pull off the road and i looked in my rear view mirror and it was cracked in a million pieces. I have a glass service coming to repair tomorrow, as i can't wait due to possible rain.

Inside rearview mirror doesnt dim when button is mashed you have to flip the button off and on many, many times to get the light to come on and start working (dimming).

The sun roof in my 2003 chevrolet monte carlo cracked and then little cracks spread out throughout the entire sunroof. This happened while i was driving.
