The contact owns a 1996 chevrolet monte carlo. The contact stated that while making a left turn, the vehicle crashed into another vehicle and the front air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed. The driver and the rear passenger sustained unknown injuries that required medical attention. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. The vin was unavailable.
No deployment of driver's/passenger's air bags during rear end collision, driver sustained injuries. Also driver's seat collapsed, throwing driver into the rear of the vehicle.
Another vehicle ran into the consumer's vehicle at a high rate of speed,and driver's side/ passenger's side air bags didn't deploy.
Lost control of the steering which caused the car to end up in a side rollover and the air bags did not deploy. Please give more detailed information.
Air bags: was driving approximately 35mph, when a vehicle came along and didn't stop, i hit her head on, neither air bag deployed.cause unknown ,have not taken in for repairs.
When vehicle was involved in a inter-sectional crash; traveling about 40 mph, there was no deployment of air bags. The whole front end of vehicle was destroyed. Damages totalled over $5,000 dollars.

Vehicle supposedly has 100,000 mile spark plugs installed, but spark plug cables failed below 60,000 miles.contacted chevrolet and they told me it was because how i had them routed, and i had never moved or touched them since i had bought the car new. I was really upset with their explanation, or "excuse". And to have an alternator go bad at 76,000 miles, i don't think so.
Vehicle has trouble starting.
Premature altenator failure, caused by altenator being positioned under car , which causes it to be out of a "cooling air flow" and to overheat/burn up,internally. Plus, due to it's location, the rightfront axle, and sub frame have to be removed to replace the altenator.altenators should not fail at this mileage. I have spoken with several other 96-z-34 owners who have had the same problems. Clearly a bad design by gm, and it passes an unneeded/unwanted burden on to people who buy their products and hope them to be trouble free,. Modern technology should allow them to build a system that is more durable.i have two other vehicles, that are much older than this car that are much more reliable and less costly to maintain. Thispoorest / and most unreliable of monte carlo now has a reputation in the market place and the resale value has plummmented. There should be some liability on gm's part.

Ball joint and tie rod + front brakes replaced at 1st alternator - parts corroded and fused together 75k on orignial tires
This car has had electrical problems since it was new. It has been in for repeat repairs since under warranty. Now that the warranty is over, gm has taken the position that they will not help in the repairs of this car. What happen to applied warranties on repairs to cars. They are refusing to take responsibilits with this cars failures. I was informed by a dealers service manager, that gm knows about the placement of the car's alternator on the engine and it caused so many problems that gm has since relocated the alternator on later models and that seems to correct the problem with having to replace the alternator. In november 1999, i paid to have a pcm replaced and the technician forgot to replace the no knock module in the pcm. This caused the cars service engine soon light to come on and the car had to be taken back for repair again. This mistake caused me to go out and buy another car. (toyota).
Because there is a driver side air bag the horn will not work it's the design .tt

Engine checklight has came on 5 times.2 times the dealer claimed that theycould not duplicate.2 times they have replaced numerous spark plugs, and 2 fuel pressure regulators have been put on the car.thegas guage unit has been replaced because of failure to register how much gas was in the car.vehicle has sputtered when first started and when going down the road.the dealer has fixed these problems.the program unit in the car has been replaced because of the sputtering and idling problem.the car is now experiencing hard starts when the ignition has to be turned for about 5-6 seconds before the car will crank.dealership has been notified of this, but has been unable to fix the problem.brake system failed when roads are wet an d brake pedal has to be pushed to the floor for the car to stop.on the occasions when the vehicle's check engine light came on and the vehicle was sputtering, the code po300 appeared the 5 times that the car has been taken to the dealership for this.numerous spark plugs and wires have been replaced possibly due to sputtering of vehicle.

"phantom hesitation occurs @ any speed,for the last 3 years. It has been "fixed" twice and still occurs. At a low speed, engine may stop.that is dangerous in an intersection.

Brakes do not work during inclimate weather.loses a quart of oil per 500 miles.blows by smoke through exhaust when starting.
Due to intake manifold gasket leak (this is the fourth time for this problem on this vehicle) i had to stop to add coolant in order to safely drive the vehicle.had i not noticed the problem this potentially could have left me stranded on the side of the highway.after getting to a safe location i had the vehicle towed to a dealer for repair.also, as i stated above this is my fourth time dealing with this issue; in addition, i know of personally 3 other vehicles with the same engine that have had the same problem and they too have changed the intake gasket several times.

The problem described below has occurred on 3 previous occasions.(1) events leading up to the failure- "dex cool" coolant leak from intake manifold gasket. 2) failure and its consequences - loss of coolant leading to engine overheating or failure.(3) what was done to correct the failure; i.e, parts repaired or replaced (and if old part is available)- gm started using "dex-cool" extended life coolant in 1996 it didn't test the long term affects on it's existing gasket technology. One article i read stated "it appears that on some engines, the use of conventional plastic-and-rubber gaskets in combination with more aggressive oat (organic acid technology) engine coolants has caused a significant number of sealing related issues for consumers and automotive service providers", said fel-pro chief engineer jerry rosenquist -- perp://www.theautochannel.com/news/2004/10/14/252583.html. Dex-cool is an oat coolant manufactured by texaco for gm. Over the past few days i've read many complaints about gm intake gasket leaks and it seems more likely that the coolant, rather than the gasket itself, is causing the problem.

The radiator looked dirty and slimy after having it flushed.since then the engine started running hot and leaking antifreeze.took it to mechanic and he stated the "head gasket was blown."

Anti-lock brakes fail in wet conditions.brake must be applied almost to the floor. They are very spongy feeling. Dealer has checked system and finds no problem. There is a problem !!!!engine: fails to start or has a rough start. When the engine is having these problems it will smoke and sputter. Dealer has repalced the main computer, spark plugs, gaskets, fuel injectors...problem still occurs.

Air pump failure - second in 2 years - informed by dealer of problems "due to design defect, location allows water into air pump, this vehicle is known for this problem" but cost to consumer still $313 part coverage 12000 miles and have 14000 miles since last replacement .dealer said they would contact chevrolet, never heard from them, i called chevrolet and have to mail all information to them but i have already had the repair they only waive prior to repair.

When i purchased this car, it was the car of my dreams. I had it for less than 2 weeks, when i noticed sludge in the oil and around the cap. I was told that it was condensation! it wasn't. It was the intake manifold gasket. When i first complained to sunshine ford, where i bought the car, it was still under warranty. When it finally blew, thank god 10 feet from my driveway, it was 300 miles over the warranty. I had nothing but problems trying to get them to fix it. They diagnosed it wrong to begin with! it ended up costing me around 250.00. Two weeks after i got the car back i was doing 65 on the highway, when something big dropped out from under my car. It was the computer and the front guard! they charged me for that too. Now, i started up the car the other day and heard a muffler noise in the front down in the engine. My drivers side manifold is cracked all the way around! needless to say, this is another $6-700.00 i have to put in this car! also, my steering column, turn signals shorted out, were replaced, but i still get surging in my lights. I am not at all happy with this car, or chevy. Oh! and let's not forget the snapped frame on the front driver seat!

The fuel injection system is programmed to let up progressively instead of instantaneously when letting up on the accelerator, this causes one to put added pressure on brakes to stop the vehicle and causes consumer to under estimate stopping distance.

The fuel pressure regulator in the engine compartment developed a severe leak.the leak caused fuel to be released in large quantities directly into the upper intake manifold and out the throttle body.fuel continued to flow out into the air cleaner housing and eventually the engine compartment and onto the ground.several gallons of fuel were discharged in this fashion.the vehicle was running poorly but gave no indication that there was a leak until the air clean was opened.the part that failed was a standard motor products part number pr216t purchased from rockauto.com on 5/15/2013 and installed shortly thereafter.vehicle mileage at installation was approximately 131000.the part failed on 10/20/2014 at vehicle mileage148243 miles.the part was installed to correct a similar situation involving a much less severe leak in an older part.the fuel leakage with the older part did not escape the upper intake manifold.age and origin of the older part are not known.the older part may have been original to the vehicle.given the significant quantity of fuel discharged and the repeated nature of the failure, i feel an investigation is warranted.

I was recently driving my 1996 chevrolet monte carlo ls (vin # [xxx]) on the highway during a heavy rainstorm. I keep noticing that the brakes felt like they were not working when i applied brake pressure. After a short while the brakes would begin to feel as though they were functioning and the car would slow down. After noticing this problem, i searched for recalls on my vehicle and contacted my dealer. The dealer's records showed that there were no recalls on my vehicle. However, the nhtsa web site indicated two problems. One was a recall, which applies only to vehicles manufactured during a specific time period. The other notice was for a safety improvement campaign (apparently different from a recall). The nhtsa number for this campaign is 011014000. The nhtsa website states that this campaign only applies to the z34 version of the 1996 monte carlo. The problem that is described is exactly what i have experienced when driving my ls monte carlo in wet conditions. It appears to me that the z34 and the ls versions of the 1996 monte carlo have identical fender wells and liners and would experience identical wet braking problems, thereby requiring the same fender liner modification. Thus, this safety problem is not limited to the only z34 model and this campaign should be extended to all 1995-1999 chevrolet monte carlo vehicles. The belts on the two front tires started coming apart to where i lost control on the highway.i had to buy two tires to rplace them in nashville tenn.these tires were noisy from the day i bought them .they were mounted on the rear wheels. I noticed the problem on a trip to canada and had them checked in detroit, mi.i also had the tires rotatd and the mechanic said they were badly cupped and i should check the rear struts.with the tires on the front wheels, they became worse by the time i got to nashville and i had very poor front end control.i had the tires repalced then.when i returned to tx, i had the rear struts replaced and the mechanic said they were not bad enough to change though they did show some slight wear.( dot number: y7yt tire size: p205/70r15 )

Upon cold start, idle raced at 2800 rpm and wouldn't drop to normal 800 rpm even after braking and brief steps on gas pedal. Racing even continued when car shifted into neutral from drive. Problem continues even after dealer servicing on 11/24/2000where service bulletins checked, finding nothing ($46.41 charge) and throttle body cleaned and linkages lubed. Dangerous condition continues. Only solution i have found--turn on ignition, let car idle race a few minutes, then turn off ignition. When ignition is then turn on again, idle appears to function normally at around 800 rpm.others, including senior citizens, may not discover this fix and confront an out of control, none breakable car resulting in serious collision. Suspect some other problem, possibly defective computer chip--whatever allows idle speed to drop after warm up under cold condition.
