While driving at 40 mph, was hit from the side and knocked into a telephone pole. Upon impact, driver's side and passenger's side air bags didn't deploy.

The instrument lights and parking lights(all of the rear running lights)stopped working due to faulty connection in the fuse box. My 1995 monte carlo with the 3100 v6had numerous problems since we bought it.we have replaced the egr valve twice in a year, the water pump, the thermostat, the radiator, the radiator cap, and it still over heats to the point that the car shuts down and the hot light comes on in the car.i am at my wits end and i have paid so much money to get this figured out and no one seems to know why.i have had it tested for a head gasket leak and it shows nothing.there is air getting into the system from somewhere because it can be bled off.i really like the way this car drives and i do not want to get rid of it.i just want it to be fixed and i have had 7 different mechanics to work on it and they are stumped!

1995 chevrolet monte carlo z34 with 3.4 liter engine.has significant issue with oil leakage due to manufacturing defect.the engine block contains a hole which was originally intended to utilize a distributor cap.this model does not use a distributor cap.the hole was plugged by gm and is inaccessible for repair without removing both timing chains, the entire top of the engine and cyclinders.i have contacted gm to request assistance with the repairs which have been estimated at $1500- 2000.their only response is to offer a certificate which could be used toward the purchase of a new gm product.i have spoken with several repair outlets and was informed this is a relatively common problem but the engine in my vehicle makes it much more difficult and costly to repair.vin:[xxx] current milage 95212.updated 07/30/2012 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)
Oil pump drive failure caused oil pump shaft leaks.yh
Faulty timing belt pulleys caused timing belt tobreak during driving on the road.this damaged valves, causing repairs to total 2400.there is no way to check on this problem and catch it before it happens.
Internal loss of coolant started shortly after purchase.when i determined that it was an abnormal amount, the warranty was done.car is presently down until i can afford the head gaskets replacement and possibly replacement of a cracked head.upon state inspection, leaking rear wheel cylinders were discovered on both wheels. Also, both rear struts were determined to be faulty.whenever it is very cold, the accelerator linkage sticks and i must shift to neutral to stop without sliding. Occasionally the engine has raced at over 3000 rpm for several minutes after the accelerator pedal has been released.the head gasket problem has happened to several other persons i know with the 3.1 engine.four different mechanics have told me that this is a very common problem with these engines after 30000 miles.

While changing the oil in my car, my husband noticed an oil leak.took the car to a dealership, morris pontiac, and was informed that there was not specific area of leak, they stated that the engine itself is leaking and the engine will need to be sealed.they stated that to do that, they would have to totally tear down the engine and seal it completely.i feel with the small amount of miles on my car/engine this problem should not be.it seems since i have owned the vehicle i have had many major problems with the car, including replacing a transmission.we live in an area without hills/mountains so there is very little if no strain on transmission or engine.

Then, at 127892 the park neutral switch out/ anti lock light stays on ,turn signal switch doesn't work , air conditioner doesn't work, front rotors on car have to be special ordered because hubs machined short, and chevrolet has no recalls on any of it. Lots of people have problems with transmission,and some of the others to guess we will never buy another genral motors vehicle, and recomend that they wouldn't neither.

I understand this is a common problem in this model car. If this is such a big issue with this part why has gm not made a recall? this is a bad design by manufactures engineering. To replacement or fix this problem is very expensive to do. It would be nice for the manufacture to own up to a bad design.
The reverse reaction shaft failed while accelerating to highway speed.the vehicle was no longer under warranty.i've been told by a number of mechanics that this is an extremely common problem in this vehicle, though i was not aware of it at the time of purchase.i think this defect needs to be investigated, and those that paid for costly repairs should be completely reimbursed.

Got in the vehicle one morning and it wouldn't go over 25 mph.vehicle had no warranty and was not yet paid for.dealer wanted an extreme amount to fix transmission.took car to aamco, technician said they found a bunch of metal shavings and everything had to be rebuilt.my friend and i bought the same vehicle from the same dealer at the same time.a month after i had my transmission fixed, he was going down the highway and lost speed.found he could not go over 25mph.he drove straight to johnny londoff and traded it in on a blazer.my neighbor started having trouble with his 95 monte carlo later that same year.none of us had received a recall notice yet all three transmissions went out.no explanation for the metal shaving except for similar instances i've read on the internet from chevrolet's survey results.i recently bought new tires and was complaining to the mechanic about the problems i've had with the car, mainly the transmission, he said he had several complaints on the same thing and thought it was recalled.he pulled up a recall campaign # 94068 for the hydra-matic 4t60-e transaxle for 1995 chevy luminas and monte carlos.the recall came out in october of 1994.he also gave me a list of technical service bulletins that describe the same behavior with metal shavings.i contacted gm and they found the campaign but told me i would have to call the dealer to see if my vin# qualified for the recall.i got home that evening and had a message on the machine to call gm customer service regarding my earlier call.i returned their call and they contacted the dealer for me.the dealer ran my vin# on the viss system and said my vehicle had no active recalls on it.so my vehicle wasn't manufactured at the same place that the others that were recalled were, but two other people encountered the same problem as i had without being part of the recall.i don't know where my vin says my transmission was made but i think they all should be checked out

While driving at 15-20 mph and without warningfront left wheel came off of the axle, was able to prevent an accident. Dealer has been notified.
While driving 25mph and making a right turnball joint broke, and the axle fell offvehicle. Dealer saidball joint and axle have to be replaced.

Driver's side seat broke away from the bracket part, and the seat is unstablefor the consumer to drive the vehicle. Driver's seat broke within the three year warranty, and the dealer won't fix the seat.
The problem is with the outer seat riser on the diver seat.i went to get in my car and the seat riser snapped and the seat rocked all the way to the backseat.i removed the seat to inspect it and found that the outer track that the seat rides on was broken and this is what caused the seat riser to break.with the track broken it was placing too much pressure on the seat riser when i would sit down in the seat. This is obviously a flaw in the part and a recall should be made.i had to drive 25 miles to the dealership with the seat rocking back.i have contacted chevrolet about the problem because the price to replace the part is outrageous.$658 for the replacement seat riser.thank you for your time.i hope that the appropriate measures will be taken to resolve this problem.

Front seatback fails to lock in place. Would have to pull or push back of seat forward or back to let someone in or out when pressure is applied. When seatback is returned to normal position,seatback fails to lock up. This also happens when brakes are applied. Seatback will not support driver or passenger at time.

I have had to replace the master clynindal, rotor and brakes 4 times since purchase. The most recent, 12/30/98, was 1 month after the 3rd time.the brakes fade, grind and disappear altogether.i have just missed many accidents.the car is currantly in the shop after loosing the brakes completely. The repair manager has told me it is now the air hose for the antilock brakes and that my rear brakes were completely gone.i have had to pay for 3 of these brakes jobs for a total of $900.i am scared to drive this car.i seen on the complaint listing for my carnumerous complaints for this exact problem, some with injuries.the parts used to repair must also be defective.chevy must be waiting for people to die before there is action taken.the manager at the dealership is also is stumped.they have tried everything.they appear to be sincere and helpful.i am at wits end.i can not continue to pay for what must be a defect in the car design.i must wonder how many people may have died from this problem and have not been reconized? please assist me in resolving this.i am not getting anywhere and fear for my life.trading in the car is not a good option for me at this time.thank you, joyce kaman.

Repeated brake repairs,and abs brake failure is a ongoing problem that has not been resolved.
Since new brakes work inconsistently. Taken to 2 dealers and independent garage several times. The only answer they found was to adjust rear shoes. However this does not fix problem. Sometimes you step on the brakes and the car just won't slow down. Usually right before you run into something the brakes seem to grab. Whenever i have a friend drive my car they comment on how scary the brakes are. This car has a lot of basic flaws i can live with but i would like brakes. Thank you.

While coming off a ramp and attemping to make a right turn applied brakesautomobiledid not stop. Consumer hit a curb. No injuries were sustained. Consumer states she messed up the right side of her automobile.

I have had to replace the pads and rotors on this braking system 3 times within the past year that i have had the car.i can't afford to keep spending $200-$300, this often for brakes going bad.
Consumer experiencing excessive wear of the front pads and shoes.also stateshoes and pads need replacing every three months. Dealer cannot determine the cause.

Failure on the steering wheel and column,when making a left and right turn the steering column makes a popping sound. Door gaskets stick to door when opening, door on passenger side does not close properly, dealer has put shims behind door latch and it was a sloppy job, wind is heard around door area.rotors were turned with less than 6000 miles.
Transmission failled at 119461 reverse reaction drum out like alot of these models this year cost1945 to repair. Then, at 127892 the park neutral switch out/ anti lock light stays on ,turn signal switch doesn't work , air conditioner doesn't work, front rotors on car have to be special ordered because hubs machined short, and chevrolet has no recalls on any of it. Lots of people have problems with transmission,and some of the others to guess we will never buy another genral motors vehicle, and recomend that they wouldn't neither.

Replaced rotors and pads several times in a year rear brakes are allways out of adjustment.
Internal loss of coolant started shortly after purchase.when i determined that it was an abnormal amount, the warranty was done.car is presently down until i can afford the head gaskets replacement and possibly replacement of a cracked head.upon state inspection, leaking rear wheel cylinders were discovered on both wheels. Also, both rear struts were determined to be faulty.whenever it is very cold, the accelerator linkage sticks and i must shift to neutral to stop without sliding. Occasionally the engine has raced at over 3000 rpm for several minutes after the accelerator pedal has been released.the head gasket problem has happened to several other persons i know with the 3.1 engine.four different mechanics have told me that this is a very common problem with these engines after 30000 miles.

Whinning type noise comes from the engine compartment because vaccum hose failure. Yh
Driving at approximately 30 mph consumer had to make a sudden stop, but brakes did not work, resulting in an accident. Brake specialist stated that brake vacuum hose was defective, but does not know if it caused the accident.

An eye wittness said that the vehicle looked like the driver had no control ofsteering. Vehicle hit a 24" utility pole on the driver's side. Driver was killed andpassenger critically injured.consumer purchased vehicle second hand, and never received a recall notice or notified of any outstanding recalls.

On april 10, 1999 i was driving on sunrise highway when i suddenly lost control of my steering.trying to center my car in the left lane where i was driving, the car would swing to the left at a subtle tilt of the steering wheel in that direction; and would likewise, swing to the right with a tilt of the steering wheel to the right.breaking did not seem to slow the car down at this point.i continued to successively attempt to control the car, swinging to the right and to the left until i road along the guardrail in the right lane, at which point the rear end of the car swung around to hit the rail, bringing me to a complete stop.a witness who came to my aid at the scene of the accident indicated that the sequence of events seemed to come out of nowhere, and recommended that i investigate a manufacturer's defect.both my insurance company, progressive, and my auto body representative said that these things are difficult to prove and that i should just repair it.i did.however, $8,000 and a one nys insurance claim later, i have brought my car back to the body shop (5/14/99)because my steering feels very 'loosy-goosy'.there seems to be a delay between my instruction with the steering wheel and the response of the actual tires of the car.when i described this to the auto body representatives they investigated telling me that it's probably the rack and pinion and that they would order me a new part, and "eat" the cost of the additional repair which would take several additional days.to my surprise they called me back the same day to say that the rack and pinion repair was complete.the first two days after this additional "repair" seemed to provide me with a healthy feeling about driving the car, however it has since been getting progressively looser in the control of the steering again.i am suspect about this most recent repair, and have sincere feelings that the cause of the accident was a structural failure.your investigative support.

The contact owns a 1995 chevrolet monte carlo.while driving 40 mph, the contact heard a loud clunking noise coming from the passenger side wheel when making a right turn.the vehicle was taken to a local repair shop and the technician stated that the front ball joints on both sides of the vehicle were failing.the repair would cost $250.upon further research, the contact discovered nhtsa campaign id number 94v230000 (suspension:front:control arm:lower ball joint).the manufacturer stated that the vin was unknown; therefore, no compensation would be provided.the failure mileage was 120,000 and current mileage was 125,000.

The car was sent to a local garage and the defect was found. The serial # of the car is [xxx]is the same problem that the same model car had under recall#94v23000 ball joint mount defect. Chevrolet says they will not fix the car. This was found before any accidents or failure happened. The car is unable to pass inspection due to defect. Throttle would stick when floored.it wouldn't return when i let off the throttle. It did this 4 or 5 times in the 1st 2 years i owned the care. It cause me to go into a guardrail, but my abs did slow me down so i was only going about 25 mph when i hit. I have pictures of the throttle linkage and my mechanic will back me up about the linkage.

Twice under normal driving conditions the rear window has exploded.this happens when i run the rear defroster.i contacted my gm dealer about the problem and they faulted the window installation.the window installers fault the defroster, which is what i believe is at fault also.both time i have been lucky enough to not have any kids in the back seat.had there been any kids back there they would have been showered in glass.

Wheneverwindshield wipers are in use they would stop on their own & then would restart on their own. An intermittent problem. Would have no warning when it would happen. This would causedriver to have poor visibility in hazardous driving conditions. Been to dealership for repairs & contacted manufacturer.
