From the time we bought this car in june 2014 to now, the car has periodically shut off while the car is in motion. Usually it has occurred at very low speed fortunately. It is difficult to get the key to thetrue off position despite this. The recall only calls for a plastic insert to be installed on the key, which was done on 10/30/14. The car stills has the shut off issue, it has gotten worse, and the dealership says it needs the ignition switch and the lock cylinder replaced. The insert on the key is insufficient to fix the ignition switch issue. One still has to keep nothing else on the key ring, yet gm insists the problem is truly fixed by putting an insert on the key. Sounds like the ignition switch is faulty, too sensitive and they have an insufficient fix.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet malibu classic. The contact stated that while parked, the vehicle was unable to start and the anti-theft system warning light illuminated. The failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the anti-theft system prevented the vehicle from starting and needed to be reprogrammed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 150,700.
Ignition switch prooblems
Dt*:the contact stated while driving 70 mph the entire lighting system failed.the vehicle was pulled off the road without incident.the headlights were manually switched on and the vehicle was driven to the dealer.this was the third time this same problem has happened.on the first and second occasions the electrical computer system was replaced.the manufacturer has been alerted.
All the door locks unlock and lock with in driving position followed by a beep it does this constantly. I believe is very unsafe with children in the back seat. Issue with the gas gauge going crazy, goes from full to empty so you never know when the gas is going to run out. Also issues with the headlights and other bulbs being blown. All seems like some electrical issues but not sure.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet malibu classic. The contact indicated that the anti theft sensor light had illuminated and stayed in the on position causing the ignition switch to become disabled which prevented the engine from starting. The contact indicated that failure had occurred on multiple occasions. The cause of the failure had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 118,000. The vin was not available.
2005 chevy malibu. Every few weeks the car will not start until ten minutes have passed after leaving the key in the on position. The theft control module is faulty and this is a known problem with gm cars. Dangerous to leave a key in an unlocked car. Dealers offer no help unless you pay $400.
After taking my chevrolet malibu classic 2005 into the dealership for the recall in which they put inserts on my key and a king ring, ridiculous if you ask me, my car has now done the same thing three more times i thought the recall was suppose to fix. While driving at different speeds ( 60 mph., 45 mph., 20 mph) my cars shuts off as if i turned the key off. My power steering, brakes all electrical components are effected. I have to then turn my key to the off position and again start my car to continue driving. It does this with no warning, while driving down a highway, while turning, while driving down a hill which are all very much safety issues. Driving 60 on a highway and the car shuts down leaving you with no power steering no power brakes no warning lights etc. Very scary.while turning a corner all of a sudden no power steering seems to me could cause a major wreck, and while driving down a hill loosing your power brakes could also. This happen to me numerous times before the recall also. I do believe it was a cheap way of chevy to try to get out of the responsibility for this problem.when i explained to the dealer mechanic what was happening he informed me that the recall that fixed the key would not help the problem of my car randomly shutting off while driving it so what was it for then?
The ignition cylinder on my 2005 chevrolet malibu classic failed, and the key comes out of the ignition in the accessory position. The general motors recall to make the key hole smaller on the key itself to fix ignition problems is an incomplete repair. Upon contacting gm about the ignition problem, they immediately told me not to drive the vehicle, and they had the vehicle towed to gillman chevrolet harlingen at their expense, but so far gm has refused to make a complete repair to the ignition. Gm maintains that the recall to the ignition problem is only to fix the key hole, and does not want to authorize a complete repair for the ignition failure.also, the shifter selenoid has failed, and the key won't return to the off position. The theft system also failed on this vehicle and won't allow the car to turn on.when the theft system fails, the only way to turn on the vehicle is to leave the key in the ignition for 10 minutes which then resets the theft system.gm is building substandard vehicles and won't make complete repairs on the faulty ignitions.this is a safety issue for gm customers and after a week of trying to get gm assistance to repair my ignition problem, the gm customer service representative has not returned my calls.
Upon attempting to start my vehicle as always i was surprised to find my vehicle would not start. I had an anti theft light come on as well. I waited, tried again no luck. To help things out my cell phone was dead and i could not call anyone. I was eventually able to get back into my work which has high security, and i was able to contact my husband who eventually was able to tell me how to bypass this issue. So i went back out and tried it and after 10 min of sitting in my cold car in a dark parking lot alone i was able to start my vehicle. This really needs to be fixed. I finally made it home an hour and a half after i was off work but what a scary and could have been expensive issue to have.
We bought a 2005 chevy malibu classic base model from a reputable dealer. Everything was working fine until my son flipped the switch on the turn signal indicator for the lights from "auto" to full lights at night. The dash cluster illumination went out along with the radio back lighting, hvac back lighting, door lock and window switch lighting. The dome light stopped working. The dome light had burned wires and the plastic fixture was burned. Replaced it back to the harness. Fuses kept blowing. Have since tried replacing the turn indicator/lights/wiper module, the dimmer switch, and dash cluster, upon inspecting the body control module i found corroded module connectors that were corroded and burned. Now the car won't start and the suspect is the anti-theft system. This is clearly an electrical malfunction from the assembly line and thousands of dollars in waste by myself my son and others reporting across the internet with the same problems as ourselves.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet malibu classic. The contact stated that the key became lodged in the ignition switch and failed to turn into the on position. Car wont start at times because of ignition switch a real problem getting to work been waiting for my recall haven't received yet its not just a problem while driving its a problem getting the car to start also please let gm know this.
My chevrolet malibu classic 2005 randomly does not start.in most vehicles when you start a vehicle all you need to do is turn the key, that is not the case with this car, you first have to turn the key and listen for the fuel pump to engage then and only if you hear that can you turn the key the rest of the way to start your vehicle. If you do not hear the fuel pump and go ahead and try to start the vehicle you trigger the anti-theft system which does not allow the car to start for another 15 minutes.while this is not much of a safety issue it is still a huge issue, leaving me stranded, sometimes stuck in a hot car just trying to get it to start, made me late for work and other functions numerous times.after waiting your 15 minutes your vehicle still may not start.if you have enough patients you can set there and turn the key off and on until you hear the fuel pump engage.everything else in the vehicle works radio, lights etc. It just does not start.leaving me to believe the ignition is to blame, and here recently i will turn the key and absolutely nothing happens.i then try again and it starts like a charm until about two weeks ago and i could not get it to do anything, my boyfriend informed me to turn the key and put the car in the neutral position and try to start it again this worked.all i know is this car has given me many problems that my gm certified mechanic father is short of figuring out.i believe it is due to faulty parts or just a bad make of car.the only thing i could dispute that is when it is actually starting, not shutting down on me it is a reasonably good vehicle. It gets me from point a to point b not always safely or reliably but at least i have a vehicle i just which gm would take responsibility for their part in this cars issues. Or at least inform the public in how to fix them.
Car would not start.thought the battery was dead due to the cold weather, thought the carburetor was flooded.got a jump, car wouldn't start.went back out the next day, tried de-icer, tried to jump it, still wouldn't start.went back 2 days later, tried to jump it, tried using quickstart, still wouldn't start.got it towed the next day, they told me the passlock sensor needed to be replaced because the anti-theft system was enabled.paid $453 for a new passlock sensor and tow.went online and found hundreds of complaints from other people w/ chevy malibus with the same problem.all you have to do apparently is turn the key to on, hold it there for 10 minutes or until theft light goes off, turn the key to off for a few seconds.then they car will start.i had to get rides to work, missed several appointments this weekend, all because i did not have a vehicle.paid $453 for a problem that could have been corrected for free and should not have occurred in the first place.

I purchased this vehicle very used at 143xxx miles, from a "reputable" dealer. I got a tune up as well as an oil change, standard used car purchase procedure. My dad initially brought to my attention that while driving my fuel gauge dropped down to e, the low gas light lit up and the check engine light came on. A local auto parts store said i should use a fuel injection kit for the check engine light. Now i have 146xxx miles and it happens every single time i get gas. It's nerve racking because i do drive frequently and my main concern is how much gas do i have? i came across a guy that works at a different auto store and he said it's probably my sender unit for my gas tank, which should cost about $300 to fix depending on where i take it. My next set of issues is my horn, i was unaware that it didn't work upon purchasing until i went to honk it and nothing happened. I took it to midas and they replaced the fuse. After driving it home the horn stopped working again. I heard it's just some wires touching but nobody does electrical work. Today, a friend asked if my turn signals were working. I said they did and he said they were burnt up, plastic and all. I looked and sure enough they were melted and the light itself was black on the inside and it looked like it's on the verge of shattering. He asked if there were recalls on anything with this car, i told him i called a local chevy dealer and the guy insisted otherwise. Now, i checked this website and both the gas and lights are on a list of recalls. Apparently, not all dealers know half the information they should for concerned drivers.
I have a 2005 malibu - that is a money pit- thier is a wiring ignition problem - my car is an intermittent starter - i've changed fuses- alternator - fuel pump- been told this and that -i'm a single female - and can't drive this car anywhere - it stops when ever it wants to - in order he middle of the road - or going to the grocery storeaaa has retired my towing - i'm online reading and everybody has went through my he same -i called last week before having my car towed again - to see if thier has been a recall and i heard no- i had it towed - spent 320 dollars being told it was the alternator after going through 2 batteries - for the same thing - i just got my car back - went out to get some coffee - come out and the car won't start again -would someone call me about this - 214 755 -3606
My windshield wipers will work sometimes and not others, i replaced the fuse.in the rain wipers will be working fine, then quit all of a sudden.my mechanic could find nothing wrong.if you do not take the fuse out now, the wipers will stay on constantly.if you want to use them now you have to put the fuse back in to make them work.you have to hope you can pull over safely once the rain starts.i am constantly using rain x when it looks like rain.this is the 2nd electrical problem i have had with my 2005 chevy malibu.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet malibu classic. The contact stated that nhtsa campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system) had exceeded a reasonable amount of time. While checking out my daughters 2005 malibu classic for complaints about intermittent airbag light i happened to slightly tug on her keychain while driving about 50 mph on the highway. The engine shut off. I lost power steering. I lost power brakes. I could not restart the car while it was moving. Luckily i was able to pull it over to the side of the road. It would not restart until i put the shift lever into park. I investigated this on the internet and found other gm vehicles being recalled but not this one. I called gm's recall line. They said to contact my dealer. I asked the dealer to make some keys with a center hole rather than a slot (at my expense) to prevent the ignition switch from rotating to engine off when a keychain is attached. They said they could not do it without gm authorization. I am concerned about my family members using this vehicle. Luckily no one was hurt.

My car has been stalling out randomly usually at highway speeds has done this about 5 times in two weeks i just had my recall done but the problem still exists very dangerous mechanic seem to think its my ignition switch not just the keys and cover gm did on recall i'm wondering if other complaints have come in and what should i do. I thought this is why they recalled the cars for stalling out, no steering, brakes etc.

The electrical system l will not always work correctly sometimes a widow will not roll up or the automatic lock will not work on one or two doors.the anti-theft sensor has had to be replaced and re-programmed 3 times since june of 2010.the first time it was re programmed and the senor malfunctioned again and the sensor was replaced and now on july 30 the sensor malfunctioned again and needed re programming.
1)ignition switch failed. I was told by a service employee at the chevy dealer to make sure my extended service contract covered electrical parts because the switch would fail and it would cost 500.00 to fix.sure enough, 6 months later, it did. Warranty covered part replacement.2) transmission shifts very hard.this happened 4 days in a row.after driving for approx 2 hours, the transmission started shifting extremely hard.i turned the car off and restarted it and the problem was gone.after the 4th day, it has not happened again for approx 5 months now.3) electrical problems. Window motor went out. Replaced part.high/low beam (combination switch) went out, replaced part. Now horn honks at will.had to pull the relay to stop it.
Wiring harness under carpet corroded and burning. One wire burned all the way back.

In the past week, both of my sons' cars developed the same problem.the theft security system (gm passlock system) failed with a resulting cost of $500.00 each to repair.on e was a 2002 oldsmobile alero and the other a 2005 chevrolet classic. This is a bit tooooo coincidental for me.i looked at forums online and have found that many people with gm vehicles have the same problem with the same part number....this is a recall item, and gm needs to make it right if they want to sell cars to americans.the cars just refuse to recognize the ignition key.this goes for backup ignition keys too.help us.

Every week i have problems getting the vehicle to start because the anti theft system comes as the operator turns theignition on.this is a very serious and dangerous problem. I strongly feel that this cars should and needs to be recalled.

The steering wheel lock broke that in turn made the ignition switch go out and not recognize that it was supposed to turn, causing the lock and tumbler to need to be replaced. Then, after being replaced it neededto be taken to a dealer to have a flash done to it, for the car to recognize the new ignition. You can't get old parts for this, and the parts have to be purchased from the dealer.

The power steering keeps going out while i'm driving. The brakes fell when all of the brake lights come on.. When i try to pump gas the gas comes back out at me.
Ignition key issuein my 2005 chevy classic malibu when the car is on in the run position when the car is in drive and park the key can come out by taking it out and the car is still running. The key is also loose it tends to fall out of the ignition and the car is still running.the car shift gear for park and drive and neutral when you pull it back it gets stuck all the time sometimes i able to move it forward and backwards without having to press the button. The car also shakes during high winds it goes left and right from high winds.
The theft system keeps going off for no reason leaving me stranded for 10-15 minutes. It happened to turn off while driving on the highway 3 times in the past the whole dash board lit up and the theft system light was blinking. It also happens while i initially start the car up.
On going problem. When i take my foot off the gas it maintains the speed and the cruise control is off. I have to brake several times to get it to slow down and when i'm fully braked the engine seems to be racing. By the time i get to repair service it has straighten out and since it isn't doing it they can't find the problem.
I can't use power steering fluid in my car because i've been told it's electrical. I was pulling out of my apartment building and i came up to a red light up the road to turn left. I stopped at the light for a minute, as the light turned green i continued an thats when the problem occurred. I couldn't barely turn my steering wheel and its hard an thats when "power steering" popped up on my dash. My steering wheel shakes uncontrollably and i'm scared to drive it and its my only transportation to and from my job.

We bought a 2005 chevy malibu classic base model from a reputable dealer. My daughter was driving her car and for no reason the car just shuts off. This has happened 3 times in the last weeks. The car also on 6 occasions wouldnot start(has brand new battery) won't turn over, my daughter has been stranded several times. After a $400. 00 fuel pump replacement , which after it was replaced the car , other cars which are just shutting off while they are being driven.this is very dangerous to lose all power while driving!. And as wellthere have been numerous car owners who have replaced fuel pumps, which did not solve the problem. The car now has had the ignition replace as the mechanics "think:"its the security system!.to date the repairs are hitting $1,000. Also the turning signals, radio and a/c all work intermittently. I am no mechanic but seems there is electrical/security systems issues with these cars. The forums are loaded with car owners having the same issues! but of course they are so varied that most not reported to you!and we all know the garages don't report all issues! thanks for your help!

Dt*: the consumer stated the engine stalled without prior warning.when this occurred there was a loss of all power and no warning lights illuminated.the consumer was driving around a sharp curve when the engine stalled and lost control of the vehicle.although there was a crash, there were no injuries or damage to the vehicle.the police were not contacted.the vehicle was seen by a dealer, but the service department was unable to duplicate the problem.in addition to the stalling problem, the trunk lid leaked allowing rain to enter the trunk compartment.the trunk carpeting was replaced, but the trunk lid continues to leak.prior to the problems, the vehicle was exposed to a hurricane but did not have any flood damage.
Fuel gauge fluctuationand engine lights comes on. I did not have this problem until after the last recallcar is in good shape and i feel that something went wrong and they failed to tell me at the dealership. I need help.
While driving home in my 2005 chevy malibu classic i heard a load popping sound and smoke came rolling from under the hood. I thought at first that i had blown the tire off the rim since i could smell like burnt rubber and see the smoke but this was not the case. I looked down and saw all the gauges lit up and the engine had died. I coasted to the side of the road and called the fire department because the car would not stop smoking at first. By the time they arrived it had stopped because the oil had burned off of the motor. After having the car towed home and then to a repair shop the next day it was discovered that the cap came off of the end of a rod while the piston was in the up position the fuel inside forced the piston down causing it to blow a hole in the side of the motor. How or what caused that cap to come off causing this issue? i now have to try and locate a motor to replace the one currently destroyed.

I have a 2005 malibu classic where the turn signals will stop working then all of a sudden start working again. The fuses are good, no loose wires that i can see, bulbs are good.i have read other complaints from 2000 when a recall was issued for the hazard switch. This is a issue and can result in a potential accident one day if the driver behind or around you does not see which direction you may be turning. The problem comes and goes. Any suggestions, advice, ideas?
I have a 2005 chevy malibu classic and the signal keeps failing you don't know when it will happen youjust signal and notice it doesn't come on..very dangerous when driving..it starts back up again when it feel like it..i feel like this is very unsafe and scary..it has happen to me on several occasions and in fed up with this problem..its has happen 3 times in a 3 week period and that doesn't seem normal. I was told that the problem cant be checked until it happens again but how am i to know when it will occur it just happens when it wants to.
I have a 2005 malibu classic where the turn signals will stop working then all of a sudden start working again. The fuses are good, no loose wires that i can see, bulbs appear okay. The problem comes and goes. Any suggestions, advice, ideas?
Driving along, all of a sudden no power. Then i had power and then i didn't.the fuel pump went out. This car has only 58,000 miles on it. The fuel pump is in the gas tank. There is two different types of fuel pumps. One cost $263. And the other $448. Mine was the $263, but i all so had to pay $200. For installation.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet malibu classic. The contact stated that the anti-theft system warning indicator flashed and the vehicle could not be started. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the fuel pump was defective. The fuel pump was replaced, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 36,000.
May be fuel pump. Car will turn over but won't start.
Fuel shows incorrect amounts.fill it and sometimes is says empty.

Fuel gauge fluctuationand engine lights comes on. I did not have this problem until after the last recallcar is in good shape and i feel that something went wrong and they failed to tell me at the dealership. I need help.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet malibu classic. The contact stated that it was difficult to remove the key from the ignition due to the gear shifter not being in the park position, although the shift indicator displayed park. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. Magee autoplex chevrolet (2127 washington st, franklinton, la 70438, (866) 551-5128) was contacted and an appointment was made to have the vehicle repaired. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v224000 (power train). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 123,596.
Front driver seat weld broken. Seat leans to side. Uncomfortable driving and unsafe.
This car has had the calipers replaced 2 times now. The first is recorded here and the second occurred on jan. 15, 2014. Both times the car lost fluid due to caliper leakage. Had difficulty stopping the car the second time around but was able to bring it to a stop without incident. I have a licensed mechanic telling me this is not normal wear and tear. The first incident paid for was $285 and the second was in excess $600. This is not part of a recall but am certain that this should not be occurring.should this result in a determination of factory error, it would be good to get reimbursed for the heavy out of pocket expense.
I have a 2005 chevy malibu classic. I purchased this car in december of 2006.i have had to have the brakes replaced every six months since i purchased the car. My mechanic advised me to purchase life time brakes from auto zone and swap them out every six months...i am a single mother who does a lot of driving and cannot afford to change my brakes ever six months. Please advise.
The bracket holding the brake manifold to the frame lost its bolts causing the front right brake line to rub the engine and cause a hole in the line. My wife lost all her brake fluid and also her brakes.
- the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet malibu classic.the contact stated that the popping sound in the steering wheel has occurred since he purchased the vehicle. The contact has a problem with his brakes. The calipers have been replaced three times since he purchased the vehicle.the contact stated that they worked for a few days and began to squeak excessively again.also, therewasan egg smell in his car and began a few months after purchasing the vehicle.the contact would like to know what couldbe done to correct the ongoing vehicle incidents/failures.
I purchased the 2005 chevrolet malibu classic from a nearby town dealership and was pleased until about 1 month laterwhen i kept hearing a loud screeching sounds coming from the front end. Thinking it was the brakes going bad, i had a friend who worked on cars, check it out and he found the brake caliper had gone bad. The car had only 32,000 miles on it, and it was fairly new he couldn't understand why this new car would have a caliper goingbad that fast. It was prior owned as a company programcar. He replaced the brakes and caliper and now everything was fine.
The problem started with the power steering note in the dashboard(radio display) y went to my mechanic and he said me, the power steering is ok, i keep driving the car and the sign for power steering continued on the dashboard and i went to another expert mechanic and he saidto me if it continue and the driving and control the car became so hard, the procedure to fix is just stop the engine for a while and start again, thisconduct i followed for a long time but reciently became so hard and very dangerousto drive because the problemnow is random, some time every few seconds or every hour or a few time, some time at the moment i turned very i was very close to crash against other vehicles and driving in the express way i-95 for fort lauderdale heading south, i needed to brake abruptly because a landscaping trailer leave garden tool and tress, my vehicle turned wild and out control between the other vehicule, only god saved me.i went to the other mechanic and said me that is a recall for gm and i went to local roger dean gm in west palm beachand they said me that fix it matter i need to pay, after a friend of mine sent to me a website where i found the recall for power steering in my chevy malibu 2005. Really i apreciate if you help because roger dean the local gm dealer in west palm beach rejected my case.
Stearing makes a clunking noise when turning and i was told it was my rac n pinion and several complaint were reported to highway safety about this matter,
I can't use power steering fluid in my car because i've been told it's electrical.
Power steering problems.

I bought a 2005 chevrolet malibu new in 2005. Since then, we repeatedly lost steering with the car. I was only recently made aware that there were issues with the power steering motor on these vehicles. They do not have the conventional power steering pump, but have an electrical power steering motor. No recall was issued. Gm knew. I visited my local junkyard the other day. There are many of these cars with front end damage. I can only surmise how many accidents/injuries/fatalities were the result of this steering flaw. Gm never informed me of the potential risks. (i did not move or change address.) i found out via the internet.i now see where gm is involved in yet another safety issue, ignition switches. Is there an investigation ongoing on these steering issues?someone is going to get killed.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet malibu classic. The contact stated that the power steering failed whenever he made a turn while driving 10 mph. The contact stated that the wheel locked completely and the vehicle could not be turned in any direction. The failure mileage was 45,000. The current mileage was 50,000.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet malibu classic. The contact did not receive a recall notification. While driving approximately 5 mph the steering ability seized. No warning lights illuminated. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 160,000.

2 years ago i received a recall letter regarding steering wheel malfunction i took the car to the dealership and it was replaced, less than a year later the issues continued to occur. I've called camelback chevrolet multiple times and left messages for the general manager with no response. The vehicle is not driveable due to this recall.
The power steering keeps going out while i'm driving. The brakes fell when all of the brake lights come on.. When i try to pump gas the gas comes back out at me.
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet malibu. The contact stated when driving at least 60-70 mph, the vehicle would abnormally vibrate excessively. The failure did not occur when driving less than 60 mph. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 63,000 and the current mileage was 77,000.
My wife was driving to work at about 8:00 in the morning when the steering wheel "stiffened" up on a turnaround by our house.then she made the first left turn at a stop sign in our neighborhood..that's when the steering wheel completely locked up and she crashed into a parked car.the police arrived and filed a report.she hit a big truck that fortunately wasn't damaged but our car was left undrivable and completely totaled in the front!!we were going to just pay to get the car fixed but i looked into it further and found a large number of incidents with the steering wheel locking up on people who owned a chevy malibu each with various types of consequences.my wife could have been easily killed or killed someone else!!!this issue really needs to be dealt with before any further harm is done to more innocent victims!!!!!
The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet malibu classic. Whiledriving 30 mph and turning the steering wheel to the left, the vehicle failed to turn. The contact stated that the steering wheel had to be turned several times in order for the vehicle to turn. There were no warning indicators illuminated. While driving to an independent mechanic, the power steering completely failed. The independent mechanic discovered that the rack and pinion was rusted and detached from the frame. The contact stated that the frame was replaced by the independent mechanic. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa since the vehicle was out of warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 153,000. Updated 9/12/18
Lost power steering without any notice or indicator error lights.previously when turning would make some squealing noise like low on power steering fluid, but is electronic power assisted turning.car is chevy malibu classic 2005 with 76,000 miles on it.safety issue as i could have been driving 55 - 65 mph on highway when the power steering quit!
Steering wheel locks up while driving.
2005 chevy malibu steering is a problem after 47,000 miles travel.steering wheel makes noise as it turns to right or left.maybe steering mechanism problem.
When making a left turn, there was no ability to turn the car. The car drove onto a sidewalk. The car would not steer. Turning the steering wheel did not turn the wheels. There was a clunking noise when turning the steering wheel. The car had to be towed. I'm afraid of what could have happened if i was on the freeway or if there were people on the sidewalk.
On 4-28-06 i was backing out of my drive way and turned the steering wheel and heard a clicking and a popping noise.as i proceeded to drive getting up speed to about 45 mph, our road has slight bumps in it, i heard the same noise.this problem has continued but is now louder, it is in the front end.i have only had the car three months as of today 6-24-06.so the first week of may '06 i took the car back to the dealership where i got it they kept the car for three days and said there is nothing wrong i drove the mechanic in my car and he heard the same noise said keep driving it. I am a mechanic myself and know something is wrong i thought cv joints so i left.so i called the chevrolet dealer in my town and ask if they would look at it and they have and said they didn't think anything major was going on and one mechanic said he thought it was a steering problem and he would have to take the steering wheel out and grease something, but they will look to ease my mind.now yesterday i ran into a man who bought a '05 for his wife and i ask if he has had problems with his car clicking and popping in the front end and he said yes and took his to the same places i have and told him the same thing and if i find any thing wrong out to let him know and he will also complain. I don't feel safe at all and especially with my family in there also.
Metal on metal rattling sounds coming from the front end of the car. The noise is loud. Sounds unsafe like something is going to fall off or freeze up.took the car to my repair guy and they could not find anything wrong. We the(repair) guy and i took it for a test drive. They said it's sounds bad but, didn't find anything wrong. He said they could start replacing parts but will not guarantee until the actual part (s) are found if any.
Since 2010, with car only being 5 years old, the key began hardly working in the ignition. We had to keep jiggling and re-trying until would work.the recall only covered notifying owners not to put extra keys on their key chain but would not cover the fact that the ignition lock cylinder was faulty.continued to live with this problem, then the theft deterrant light started going on because of the necessary jiggling -- where the car won't start and you have to turn to acc and wait 10 minutes. Once again, dealer refused to cover.stationary problem, but for my elderly father, not good for the key not to work for a while, or will not start for at least 10 minutes due to theft system being activiated
Purchased car 12/26/05- in february, heard a strange rattling sound in car on right hand (passenger) side of car.spoke to dealership once about it, my husband took rep on drive so he could hear it. He said he could hear it... Take it to service.husband took the car into service.they could not recreate the sound, could find nothing wrong.may 26, 2006 - driving along at 8:00 a.m. On a friday morning - while driving along curve, car lost control, about to go into ditch on right hand side, swerved to the left to avoid.felt like car was out of control, almost hit oncoming traffic, swerved to the right to avoid, consequently ran into ditch.could not slow car down.hit driveway ahead of me and car went airborne landing in ditch on the opposite side of the residential driveway.i survived, no injuries.car totaled.purchased another chevy malibu lt but new year 2006.figured any kinks would be worked out in the new model.
I'd just entered onto the freeway and was going about 55 mph when my car began to accelerate at which time i attempted to brake but the brake pedal would not move.i thought that maybe there was a malfunction with the cruise control so i turned it on then off again several times and each time attempted to brake but the pedal still would not move and while at the same maneuver with cars on the freeway.i ended up exiting about 4 miles down the road using an exit with a long exit ramp. As soon as i exited i put the car into neutral and it began to jerk but slow down some but not fast enough as there were cars stopped at traffic light at the end of the ramp and there was not much time left, so at that point i put the car into park which caused my passenger and i to be thrown forward and the seat belts tightened around us.after a few minutes i restarted the car and it began to rev up faster and faster so i immediately called for chevy roadside assistance and the car was towed to a nearby dealership.this occurred on yesterday afternoon and i am awaiting a call from the dealership to inform me of why this happened and to repair my car.
Dt:the contact states next to the accelerator there is no protection betweenfoot and a cable.he is unable to determine whether the contact'sfoot is on the pedal or on the cable.this could cause sudden acceleration.he feels there should be a shield to keepfoot from hanging.the dealership found that all of the malibus were like this, and were not able to offer a remedy.
I put down the back windows and now they won't go back up.i have an '05 malibu and rarely use the windows.the motor should not have went (if that is in fact the problem).i will not be able to put my infant in the car in the winter if this problem isn't fixed?
