I am a former state law enforcement officer with extensive safe driving techniques for over twenty years. I now work with ups and have extensive safe habits with this corporation.today was a clear, cool and crisp day with no water or oil spots on the highway.my 15 month old was in her child restraint seat in the rear and i was in the driver seat.while coming to a stop my brakes locked up and the abs did not work.the seat belt i was wearing did not work properly causing me to break my glasses as my head hit the steering wheel.the airbags failed to work also. There was extensive damage to my vehicle which was caused by the impact of running into the rear of a dump truck.had the abs and seat belt worked properly the accident could have been avoided by maneuvering my vehicle around the dump truck.

Air bags did not deploy in a 2004 chevorlet malibu in 2 accidents. The first accident was on 8/29/05 in which i was t-boned by an suv that ran a stop sign in which in court the suv was found guilty. The second accident was on 1/8/09 in which my daughter gabrielle threadgill slid into the back of a huge van due to weather conditions and slid into the van going at least 30 miles per hour,no citation was given due to the ice. My daughter and i were both injured in both accidents due to the air bags not deploying.

After starting the car there was no power to windows radio or ac also gauges for temperature and fuel did not work.

Problems started over 3 years ago.electrical problem involving interior electronics, sometimes radio and climate electronics will turn off and automatic headlights and dash light will turn off, usually right after starting, but sometimes in the middle of driving.recently the car engine stalled on the interstate in addition to the above issues and the security light came on. Then the next week the car stalled on a street without lighting the security light and wouldn't restart, after being towed the car did restart.

Intermittent turn signal failure. There is no cause or effect. Some days they work some days not. Sometimes they work or not in the same day. We have found no shorts in the system and everything else works fine on the selector switch without fail. We took it to a mechanic twice who could not duplicate the problem. We have had several near accidents due to this malfunction.

My car suddenly wouldn't start this morning while trying to get to work.after researching a little bit on the internet i came to realize that this has to do with that annoying anti-theft light that is always lit up in the corner.so i go back out to my car, hoping that the 10 minute procedure will work for me as well.but as i am sitting there with my car in the "on" position my battery dies on me.so now i am stuck here with a car that wont turn on, and no way to get to work! i'm not sure if this is as well related but about 2 months prior my power steering had gone out.mechanics thought it was a bad fuel pump and had to have that fixed.

The 2004 chevy malibu classic is experiencing the same brake apply sensor (bas) circuit malfunction as other 2004 gm vehicles listed in gm recall 13036. The brake lights do not come on when the brake pedal is pushed, even though the light bulbs are brand new. I am asking gm to investigate and consider adding the 2004 chevy malibu classic to the list of vehicles to be recalled in recall 13036. The conditions that the 2004 malibu classic are experiencing are identical to the conditions stated in the recall.

My theft system warning light keeps coming on. When i turn the key off and try to restart the car it will not start back.i have to turn it to the on position and wait until the theft light quits flashing which is usually 10 minutes and then restart the car.i was told by a chevrolet dealership mechanic that the problem was the ignition cylinder which cost around $180.why is there not a recall for this.

I have a 2004 chevy malibu & im having problem with the anti theft system. This causes my car not to start & to shut off on me while driving. I had this happenwhile going down a mountain with my 7 year old daughter in the backseat!!! i can not believe chevy has not done a recall on this yet!!! everyday my car doesn't want to start & i have to turn the ignition on & sit and wait for the anti theft system to reset! by the way its almost 100 degrees this summer!!!

I had my key stuck in accessory the ignition so my car battery would run dead.i was told i might need a ignition cylinder for my vehicle but looking on the internet i see this is a known issue for this make, model, and year. This should be recalled a fix that the manufacture to pay for a known problem. To get this replaced is almost $900.00.

I turn my key yo turn off my car in it want go pass the acc.

Theft system light came on for 2004 chevy malibu for one day. Car would not start the next day. Had to have it towed. Google search revealed over 33,000 complaints for theft search. On chevy cars.for $616 plus tax, tim lally chevrolet is charging me for: ignition cylinder, wiring and connector.

Since at about 110,000 miles (car now has 160,000) the theft system prevents me from starting my car by disabling the injectors intermittently. I find this to be a safety hazard as do many others that have posted comments online.it has stranded me at 1:30 in the morning in front of convenience stores. Not a safe place to be stuck. Chevy says its a $300-$1000 fix but i have read that it still does not fix the problem in some instances.i'm surprised that there has not been a class action lawsuit against gm for this.any assistance would be greatly appreciated.thank you.

In march my starter went out in my car. After replacing it i had no problems for about a week. Then i found out that my ignition switch had gone out as well. I replaced that and had no problem for about 5 days. Then for no reason my car would not start. We googled it and found out that i just needed to reset my anti theft system. Now ever since that every 1-5 days i get stuck wherever i happen to be because my anti theft system kicks in and thinks that my car is stolen when it is not. 9 times outta 10 after a 10 or 15 minute reset my car starts just fine. But now for the 3rd time it has been sitting for 2 days and will not start. In order to fix this problem mechanics are telling me that i have to pay well over a hundred dollar for them to hook it up to a computer and reset the system. If it is a system error and i did nothing wrong but fix the problem with my car then why is the dealership asking so much money simply to plug it in and hit some buttons???????

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet malibu classic.within the past year, the vehicle has been experiencing electrical failure with the windows.the windows work at random and, occasionally, rise very slowly as if the motor is not working properly.the vehicle is also experiencing issues with the turn signals.most of the time they do not work at all, but other times the signals work for a brief period of time.the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was out of warranty and they were not responsible for the failure.the contact believes the issue is due to a manufacturer defect and should be their responsibility to repair.the dealer would not assist.the vin was unknown.the failure mileage was 70,000 and current mileage was 82,000.updated 5/7/09 updated 05/12/09

The passlock security system malfunctions disabling the vehicle. You have to reset the system which can take up to 30 minutes.this can be a safety issue when it happens while the vehicle is in motion.i have seen thousands of complaints for this issue.this is a common problem that needs to be recalled.

The passlock system and fuel rail combined created a injury to pedestrians that is unbelievable the car took off after left turn into a parking lot

The anti theft gas cut off feature has rendered my vehicle unable to start. I have tried many methods but the problem persists. It starts when it wants too, but not when i do.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet malibu classic. When the ignition was turned to the on position, the vehicle did not start. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet malibu classic. The contact stated that the anti-theft sensor and the service engine sensor kept randomly illuminating and the vehicle stalled several times. The contact also experienced difficulty removing the key and getting the key to turn over into an on position to start the vehicle. The contact heard a clicking noise coming from the steering wheel, which occurred frequently and the noise continued while driving. The vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system) and indicated that the dealer was not able to determine when the part would become available to schedule the recall repair. The contact called for months and was not able to schedule an appointment. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

Theft system light comes on for no reason and car won't start. Have to put key in ignition for 10-15 min before it will start. Recurs at least once a week now. Should be a recall!

Due to the passlock sensor inside the ignition lock cylinder case failure, the vehicle will stall at any moment and anywhere, which makes more likely to be involved in a wreck because of this. Gm stated that the problem with the vehicle stalling was due to the key coming out from the ignition cylinder. Gm added weight to the plastic portion of the key as a solution to the problem but the real problem for the vehicle to stall is not that, it is due to the failure of the passlock sensor.

Rec'd recall on ignition switch. Took vehicle to dealer and service rep took 1of my vehicle keys, brought key back and said repair completes. Never did he touch my car. Immediately after this, vehicle wouldn't start. Whatever was done to my key threw off my alarm system and locked up vehicle .dealer refused to take responsibility. Contacted gm and was contacted back. They made note of complaint. Now watching c cnbc and the ignition recall. I am concerned as only 1key was touched by dealer and that was it.

I was in the process of slowing down for a red light on a busy highway when my car just died. I had two kids in the car with me. Something bad could have happened. Good thing it the car died at a red light. I waited a few minutes and the car started up. I had the car tested for any codes and nothing showed for a reason why the car did this.this has happened several times. The first time it happened was about 3 years ago.

I have a 2004 chevy malibu with the factory theft system.this theft system has caused the car to not start and thus making me late for many appointments.the system will reset after 10 minutes, but i feel that this is something general motors needs to look at and maybe issue a recall.thank you

Car wouldn't start so took it to a local mechanic and removed battery and then replaced it and car started. Informed us he has worked on others that had same problem and it was a problem with the anti-theft device that had to be taken to the dealer to be taken care of. The car started and ran for 3 days then it won't start again. So had it towed to the chevy dealer. Mechanic talked to on the phone instantly knew the problem. They have had to repair it on many cars. Told us it was the anti-theft device and the only way around it was to replace the ignition switch. The car is still currently at the dealers so cant give a total account yet of what was done to correct the problem. I've had to miss days at work because of this and wondering if it is such a common problem why something isn't being done about it. Had a problem with the anti-theft device before but caused a different problem. It went off while i was driving and didn't let me use cruise control, and the power steering went out. It also was very difficult to stop. I had to pull over on the side of the road and turn the car off and wait a few minutes. Then it started back up and had no problems till now.

Turn signals working intermittent and inoperativecould result in a crashwhen turn signals not working this is a big safety concerngm knows of this problem and has a recall no. 03043my vehicle is a 2004 and gm said no recall on this vehiclethis car has the same problem as the recalled vehiclesturn signals stop working could cause a fatal crashi want gm to pay for repairs they know of this big problem.

Well my ignition switch went out i replace that.now it's shortages in wiring and lights heat on an off sometimes shocks

I own a 2004 chevy malibu. My anti-theft device keeps me from starting car. Uncertain why this was happening at first, kept having it go for service. They could never find anything wrong. Now i find it's the anti-theft system. So i have to wait 10-15 minutes with ignition to the on position before theft light turns off & can start car. I end up leaving car running now to go into stores, anyplace i expect to be less than 5 minutes. This is happening 1-3 x's a week for over 6 months. Gm dealer states will fix for $400. Hundreds of same complaints i've found on-line, even face-book page, dozens of y-tube video's showing how to turn off system-but this is something that requires some mechanical expertise which i don't have. Safety concern-may have emergency and need my car to start, not wait patiently for 10 minutes then hope it will start.

The theft system comes on in my car about every 3 times i use it.when this happens i need to wait ten minutes before starting me car.it can be very dangerous at night in my parking deck.

After radio was replaced i experienced my blinkers do not work consistently. I had a warranty at that time took it to dealer they could not duplicate problem told me come back when it started again, however the dealer said that if i jiggled the hazard button the blinkers would work that they had seen this problem many times and that they thought it would be a recall matter.of course the situation continued my warranty ran out and i'm stuck with this dangerous electrical issue that should be a recall.the a/c is also affected, it comes on and off and it seems the hazard button somehow helps to reset the problem sometimes so it comes back on just like the blinkers will stay on if i hold the left corner of the hazard button.if anyone out there has had this problem please let me know how it was corrected.help!

At first, the service engine soon light would illuminate at random intervals.then engine shut off while car was moving.the problem happened more frequently as time progressed.then the car would not start intermittently.finally it would not start at all.the shop found the bad part was the ignition switch.total cost to replace the switch and do the associated work was $900.

Car went completely dead, and was diagnosed with a defective ignition switch.cost to repair was $542.85is this going to be covered in the current gm recall?

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet malibu classic. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. The contact had to leave the key in the "on" position for approximately ten minutes before attempting to start the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure occurred twice and the theft warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 190,000.

Sometimes my 2004 chevy malibu classic will not start, due to the anti-theft system, i think it's not reconizing my key. It occurs like 4 times in a week if i'm lucky, i feel like im playing a game of chance everytime i start my car. So now i pray to the car gods everytime i get in my car, right before i start my car, it seems to work most of the time(praying may not work for most people).

I purchased my car in 2005 and this problem didn't start until 2012.my car will not start at times and the first time it happened i had no idea that it was the ignition switch/antitheft system kicking in.for some reason my car thought i was trying to steal it.i had the fuel system looked into and changed a couple of parts thinking that was the problem, but obviously now i know it wasn't. I have had it plugged in and no diagnosis was found.i did bring it to a man that works on chevrolets and he told me i probably need a new ignition switch. So for two years now, i have to reset my ignition switch/anti theft system on many occasions, which takes 10 minutes while your sitting where ever you may be. I do strongly believe that this needs to be a recall as i see sooo many complaints about this.unfair that we all have to fix this issue ourselves when the gm should be fixing the issue!!!!

The key caused the ignition switch to separate and become loose. Now the ignition switch is out of position and start out of place and is very dangerous. I asked told them about it when they were replacing the recall keys. They refuse to fix or look into it because it was not included in the law suit.which it shouldhave because they bothgo together to solve the problem. The problem is still there and not resolve.the ignition switch was the main problem along with the keys.

Upon shutting car off my car key would not come outignition after dangling the keyicame out but the ignition wasn't in the off position. Lm attempt to put the key back in to turn it to off position it didn't budge. The next morning the car wouldn't start i had to get a jump and then the following morning the car wouldn't start i had to get a jump. I went advance auto parts and was told that because the car is not in offposition completely its draining my battery, i also was informed of a recall for my vehicle that i wasn't aware of. Iwill take to dealership on monday. The other problems i have is the driver's side window after letting down wont come back up. Turn signals not working one minute pop on other minute. I check thefuse box it was fine.

Theft system did not allow the car to start. Theft system light appears intermittently. Following the "wait 10 minutes" procedure described in other complaints results in start on some occasions but does not work on others. Considering the gm ignition problem recalls, i do not understand why this has not been the subject of one.

The auto theft light comes on when iunlock my doors and headlights flashes and the radio clock light flash until i start the car, sometime i have to shut the car off and restart it to get it to stop.then the car doors unlock and lock when i am driving down the street.when i put my car in drive there is a horn sound. What is wrong with my car?

My car has now failed to start several times. I had the fuel relay switch replaced which seemed to solve the problem for about a week. Now it is doing it again, i called chevrolet after researching the issue (seems to be a big issue) and they just recommended me to take it to the dealership. Not good, and worried that the vehicle will shut off while driving. Please help.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet malibu classic. While driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled unexpectedly. The contact was able to coast over to side of the road and restart the vehicle. The dealer diagnosed that the ignition needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 210,000.

Intermittent problems w/ signal light. No signal (from stopped or waiting position) signal, then no signal (any speed). No signal, then suddenly signal (any speed or driving condition) i've had it in to the dealership multiple times but they have never been able to replicate, so they say there isn't a problem.

Security system went haywire. I got in my car tried to start it, it will start, but dies in seconds, no dash lights, if i leave the ignition turn to on after so long 10 minutes or longer sometimes the dash lights will turn on again. And then i am able to start my car and drive it, however sometimes the car even after waiting a half hr will not reset the passlock security system. It costs over $500.00 to fix and this is the second one i have had to replace in my car. The dealer should be fixing this issue as it is a known issue and has had multiple complaints all over the internet. This is ridiculous how can the charge such an outrageous amount and yet it go bad again and not recall this.

I tried to start the car and, while the starter motor operated, the car would not start. Eventually i had to have the car towed, and the ignition switch replaced. If had know, i could have left the key on for 10 minutes and perhaps it would have started. But this info was buried in the owner?s manual under the heading passlock and not found until after the car was repaired. I would have been afraid to sit in an unlocked car for 10 minutes in any event.

The passlock system and fuel rail combined created a injury to pedestrians that is unbelievable the car took off after left turn into a parking lot

2004 chevrolet malibu timing chain falling apart due to rotating collars on the chain which go between gear teeth falling off.mechanic said i probably have 30 - 40 pieces in my oil pan.this were made with a slit instead of solid with just a hole to slide a pin through for attachment.gm had a recall of the saturn with the same engine for the same problem but gm claims that all recalls are vin specific and my car didn't fall under the recall.i've read of other incidents where this has caused breakage, resulting in accidents due to the engine stopping and being destroyed.

Engine failure and intermittent starting problems. While driving a 2004 chevrolet malibu, its engine cut out without warning, causing the vehicle to lose all power controls ie. Steering and braking. The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet malibu classic. After turning the air conditioner on it was heating the vehicle instead of cooling it. A mechanic added two cans of free-on in the unit; however, the air conditioner is not operating normally. The failure mileage was 72,000.

For some reason the entire interior trim on the door panels have come unglued and detached from the doors.it looks terrible.i recently received a recall notice regarding a knocking noise in the steering.of course, this has been going on for years and now the notice says my car must have less than 150k miles on it.i dare say there are not many 2004 vehicles with less than 150k miles?mine is around 164k.we use to spray grease on the joint where it hits when the steering wheel is turned.i had been told a dealer would want to replace the entire rack n pinion on the vehicle, but that would not correct the problem.guess i am just out of luck.

Hazard/turn signal works intermittently.does not appear on the indicator panel when not working.will work for part of a trip and then stop or not work at all when the vehicle is first started and then work 20 mins. Later. The speed/weather conditions do not seem to have an effect as to when it works.consequence could be a ticket.the town of amherst has made the news for how much they ticket and a plea down to a parking ticket would cost a person $200+. I have hesitated to replace it as i have read that this is a common problem of chevy malibu's.these cars need so many repairs that i hate to put more money (yet again) into something that will not work.

My husband travels 200 miles a day, mostly interstate travel. At least .once a day his turn signals fail to work. Most of the time if he messes around with the hazard light button for a few seconds the turn signals will function again, but not always. This is definitely a safety issue. One mechanic said it is more than likely a short in the wiring but will e expensive to find let alone fix. I feel there is also a possibility of a fire.

Well my ignition switch went out i replace that.now it's shortages in wiring and lights heat on an off sometimes shocks

I am experiencing problems with both of my turn signals.they are currently not working at 100%.sometimes they come on and sometimes they do not.also, they have turned on and immediately stopped working.this has caused great concern because i am not always able to signal to change lanes which may cause an accident.nothing happened directly before the failure occurred.one night when a friend was following me she noticed that i had "stopped" using my turn signals when in fact i noticed later that they were no longer working.the next day, they worked on and off throughout the day.when i called the dealer and reported that problem and asked about the recall, the dealer stated that my 2004 malibu was not included in the recall though it was having the same problems as previous models.

Intermittent problems w/ signal light. No signal (from stopped or waiting position) signal, then no signal (any speed). No signal, then suddenly signal (any speed or driving condition) i've had it in to the dealership multiple times but they have never been able to replicate, so they say there isn't a problem.

My vehicle drivers side light has gone out various times. The daytime running lights on that side have stopped working as well. Turn signals will stop working while merging in traffic. The power windows will stop working as well.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet malibu classic. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled when the fuel pump exploded without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who confirmed that the fuel pump exploded. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.

The passlock system and fuel rail combined created a injury to pedestrians that is unbelievable the car took off after left turn into a parking lot

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet malibu classic. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning and was unable to be restarted. The security pass lock and anti-lock warning indicators randomly flashed intermittently. The vehicle began to stall at random. The vehicle was diagnosed by a mechanic who stated that the fuel pump regulator failed. The vehicle was repaired, but continued to stall. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

Vehicle is unable to smoothly shift into park position to allow the key to be turned off. Certified mechanic stated the shifter cable is most likely the defect. Many models have already been recalled.the car in not able to shift into park to allow turning of thekey ignition switch to the off position so that the car battery turns off. Sifter cable could possibly malfunction during normal driving/operation, starting/stopping.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet malibu classic. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel independently turned to the left without warning. The vehicle was turned off and back on but failed to fix the issue. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the rack and pinion detached from the subframe and needed to be replaced. The contact stated that only the bushing was replaced and not the rack and pinion. In addition, the contact stated on another occasion the vehicle failed to shift to reverse or go into forward gear while in the middle of the road. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and was diagnosed that the shift cable was fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 157,000.

I was driving along the road, and the yellow wrench popped up,the wheel was difficult to control. Also, while turning the car the wheel was difficult to turn. This problem occurs at least 3-4 times a year. My brake peddle acts up in the snowy months. When i press the brake peddle-the peddle jumps pushes up and down into my feet. When it snows, i worry about running into a car.

I turn my car on drive go to get out the key won't come out sometimes it does and most time is doesn't.i try turn the car back on putting the car in drive then park and turning the key to off position and the car still doesn't go into the park position so the key doesn't go into off position to take key out.the car stays on without the ignition being on. The car is stationary but the car won't go into park to turn the car completely off. Spoke to gm problem with transmission shift cable but they won't help me.the keep saying there is no recall for my car.there was a recall for this gm's recall 14152.please help.thank you!

When in reverse, but not moving, the whole front of the car shimmies and makes noises. The affected part was just replaced (supposedly) in feb. 2012. Now they say that the parts again must be replaced because they are just finding it now, a couple of months after the warranty has expired.

Driver's seat broke at welds on two support bars.seat leaned to the right.became very dangerous since seat belt is attached to the seat near the breaks.in the event of a collision seat probably would have broken loose and caused serious injury or death.contacted gm about the problem and were advised to fix seat ourselves since it was not a recall item. (we did have the seat replaced.)we do have the broken seat in case someone from the nhtsa would like to inspect it.i noticed that there are numerous other drivers who have complained of the same problem.seat replacements run about $1000.00 at a dealership.

Sever vibration when brakes are applied.one rotor was changed while vehicle was under warranty. Now there is 50,000 miles on the car and no warranty and the problem is back.this was a problem the dealer was aware of and should have replaced the other rotor also.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet malibu classic.the contact stated that the steering wheel would fail intermittently.in april 2011, the vehicle was taken to a private mechanic who replaced the rack and pinon however, the failure persisted. Steering wheel would shimmy while in motion, often accompanied by knockingthat is heard and also felt through the steeringwheel while applying brakes, and would stop only when the vehicle came to an near or complete stop. Othernotable events include a rough vibrationwith an audible repetitive thumping that was felt from the left front wheel that would slip on regular intervals while applying brakes.the failure happened suddenly while driving my 2 special needs boys to school. The failure started with little warning in front of the school which is located right off the boulevard.i was able to bring the car safely to a stop due to the 25mph school zone rule.the maximum speed limit is 35 during non school hours and 40 mph further down the boulevard. The power steering became extremely difficult to steer with in seconds before the service (wrench) light came on. I parked my vehicle, and called my insurance company to have my car towed to an reputable care repair shop because the car wasn't safe for me to drive. After 50 minutes the tow truck arrived and when the driver started my car, the car was again steer-able and the maintenance light was no longer on. The mechanics were unsuccessful in reproducing the steering malfunction. September 9th, 2009 , the same failure repeated itself, same location same time as before, the maintenance light turned on and then unlike the first event on september 8th, the radio displayed an powersteering failure message on its' screen. The mechanic at the auto shop took a look at my car immediately after he saw the maintenance light, and the powersteering failure message. After the powersteering part from bob stall chevrolet was delivered, the part was then installed. I paid out of pocket, and didn't find out until after service was rendered, that a discovery was made by the shop while searching for information about my car, that there had been a recall. I never received gm's notice. I have the old part. Part installed is new.

1st time:driving in the drop off area of son's school and power steering went out on my wife. We had to signal the other cars around our car (2004 chevy malibu). My wife could not move the steering wheel so i had to back the car up out of the children' drop off area with no power steering into a parking space after all the children were dropped off. Second time:per the message on service indicator power steering went out on a main road in our town after repairs by certified chevrolet mechanics at don hewlett chevrolet was a year later rightafter the warranty went out. I was told i would have to pay for the repairs since the warranty was up. There have been 46 complaints on a website called www.carcomplaints.com regarding this same issue and the 2005 chevrolet malibu was recalled for this same issue of the power steering failure.

The power steering constantly goes out on this car.i can be driving at any speed and it will go out without warning.i have been informed that there was no recall, yet this is a very common issue with these vehicles.the quote i've been given to repair is over $500 and several people had to get the repair done more than once.chevy should do a recall and compensate the consumers.

I was driving on highway and my car chimed and lost all power steering for approximately 3-4 seconds and then the power came back. This type of power loss has happened to me twice since i have owned my vehicle which i purchased in 2008.

I was driving on the highway and totally lost power steering. I pulled my car into a parking lot and let the car sit for a couple of hours. I was able to drive the car home where i lost power steering again while pulling into my driveway. I was able to drive my car to the repair shop a couple of days later where i had to have the entire steering system replaced.

Power steering goes out while driving, twice in the last two days.

Dt*: the contact stated the steering on the vehicle locks momentarily. This happens without warning.the vehicle has been to the dealership were the vehicle was test driven.the dealership was unable to duplicate the problem. The manufacturer has not been alerted.

While driving in the middle of the rode, steering wheel will lock up causing me to have to restart ignition- as if the car is resetting, in order for the steering wheel to turn properly. This has happened at least 1-2x/month since the first incident. I often drive on the highway and its happened while other cars are driving around me. The steering wheel will not turn or it takes a good amount of force to make the wheel turn. Its quite dangerous and very scary. I contacted the dealer and was told there are no warranty's or recalls. Checked online and discovered that others are having a similar issue. Now i have to pay mechanic to fix the part.

I kept hearing a rattling in my car coming from the front tires area.i took it to my local gm dealership and it was diagnosed as needing a "steering gear".my car is only 2 years old, though it has relatively high mileage.after consulting with others more knowledgeable about cars, i found out that gm has had problems with steering gears in the past, and that my car is definitely too "young" to have that part needing replacement.it's a 2004 chevy malibu with 64k+ miles on it.

Steering wheel was hard to control felt my car moving in outside lanes, the next morning i began to pull my car out steering wheel was so hard to turn it just broke and started spinning around. I was in total shock and happy to be alive.

2004 chevy malibu at 30,000. Miles the steering went out clunking noise when i turn at 42k it did it again at 68k it did it again this time chevy would not pay for repairs no more warranty it happened again in 2009 and now it's in the shop for another steering problem cost 1622.00 to repair plus rental ar for three days.chevy says my fault the problems are not related. I am not the only one to have this problem and it's not one two or even three times it many times..

While coming off the highway, i noticed i no longer have power steering.the entire rest of the way home, no power steering.i searched on line to see if there was a reservoir to put more power steering fluid in, and there appears to be none and i will have to fork out over $500 for a new steering column.i was never informed of any problem with the 2004 chevrolet malibu and a power steering problem.

The steering has gone out twice on me now. So i did some research and it shows there is a recall for steering parts but not for my vin # of my malibu? what is the deal?

While driving down the expressway,my power steering went out. I pulled over to the side of the road and shut my car off and started it up again and it started working again.gm has recalled other models for doing the same thing, but not the 2004 malibu. This is very dangerous and somebody is going to get killed unless gm takes care of this problem. The 2004 chevy. Malibu has electric assisted power steering. The thing is that gm,the dealers and nhtsa all know about the problem, but are not doing anything until people are hurt and killed. I bought the car new and have taken very good care of it.

Driving down the road to drop off the kids at my mothers house and power steering failed.

2004 malibu classic with power steering problems. **ccthe consumer was involved in an accident where the power steering went completely out.

A/c hoses rub the frame and create a hole in the line that causes freon 134a to be released in to the air and the expense is over 500. To repair on the 2004 chevy malibu.

Ends of hollow sway bar broke off affecting control. Mechanic said it was a common problem and should have had a recall.

The car won't start. Dealer said some problem with the passlock system.a new passlock sensor is needed. I did a search online and found many chevy/gm cars owners reported the same problem. Some even reported that the car stopped during driving in the highway, which is soooooo dangerous. Gm needs to start a recall on this.

On 01/14/2012 i was driving a 2004 malibu classic in which i ended up in a crash involving 3 vehicles, i was driving on a street about30 miles per hour when my malibu had suddenly turned off without power steering and breaks i hit the car in front of me, then that car hit the car in front of him, my 2004 malibu was totaled, the insurance company, was a total loss, at the time i was ticketed for following too closely, however i knew that this malibu had loss power causing the accident

I own a 2004 chevy malibu. The anti-theft device continually causes my car to have a delayed start. I have had to put so much money into this vehicle that fixing it to the tune of $500 is out of the question. My dealer told me that even fixing the vehicle does not guarantee the replacement parts will not be defective. My car recently stalled in a dark parking lot and i had my two year old baby with me. Does chevy have no shame for selling products that they know are dangerous? if i would have been attacked and my little girl hurt it would have been their fault. It really doesn't make much sense to have a defective anti-theft device does it? will it take a wrongful death suit to make them be more responsible? i know they are aware of the problem because a co-worker of mine has a 2002 chevy malibu and she had the same problem, two years later they are still selling the same crap. If i can afford to buy anothercar again it will definitely be a foreign car. The following information is general because this happens all the time, not just on one date!!!!

Chevy malibu classic 2004. Anti-theft light is staying on and the car will not turn over at all. I have owned the car for several months now and this is the first time that i have had any problem with it. The car will sit in the "on" position and the power will be on, but once it is turned to "start" everything goes off and there is no power for several minutes.

There is a problem with the rear brake lights. I had the circuit boards changed and all fuses checked and changed and i still don't had brake lights. There is a recall listed concerning this issue it is recall number 13036. I have researched is situation and found out that the chevy malibu models from 1997 to 2012 all seem to have problems with the brake lights failing to operate. So when a recall be issued or do people have to continue taking chances that while they are driving that the brake lights may or may not be working. I was driving when someone informed me that my rear brake lights were not working thankfully i arrived home, parked my car and have not driven it since. I discussed the situation with my mechanic and he advised me about the failed rear brake assembly of the chevy malibu and to contact the dealership. I spoke with a representative who basically told me there was nothing i could do that i could had it serviced pay out of pocket and if and when a recall for the brake system is issued i could be reimbursed. Because of this huge issue i can't and don't feel safe driving. Therefore, it is an extra cost on me to take public transportation to travel and i'm on a fixed income so who is going to reimburse me for my inconvenience.

The theft system light has been an issue with this car for some time. The theft system light comes on and stays on by itself as well the systems makes the horn honk when opening or closing the car door. The theft system has made it so that i cannot start my car & this has been an on going problem with my car.

I was driving my 2004malibu classic , when all the vehicle , turned off ,causing me to hit the vehicle in front of me and that vehicle hitting another car , there where 3 vehicle involved with injury's, my vehicle was tolled and was sent to a tow yard , at the time of the incident i was working as a maintenance worker and would carry my work keys with my vehicle keys , never would have thought it would have turned the ignition

My theft light came on a month after the ignition was repaired due to recall. It is always on now. I have replaced the fuel pump, spark plugs, and timing chain. My car still wont start after all of that and the theft light is still on. I have been without a car for 2 months now due to it not starting. It will roll over but nothing more happens.when all of this happened it was stationary and it was parked in a parking lot where i work.
