Dt*:the contact stated the passenger compartment intermittently fills with fumes after the engine has been running for 30 minutes.the vehicle was taken to the service dealer on three occasions, but the dealer was unable to duplicate the problem because the fumes were never present at the time of inspection.during the last inspection the dealer determined a plastic grocery bag was trapped over the catalytic converter.the bag was almost completely disintegrated from the heat of the converter.the dealer determined this could be a possible cause of the fumes and the bag was removed.apparently this was not the cause of the problem as the fumes returned again yesterday, but the vehicle was not returned to the dealer for inspection while the fumes were present.

While driving, my car will just suddenly cut off and this occurs whether stopped at the light or while pressing the accelerator.the volt light comes on and the car just cuts off and the steering wheel locks up.my local chevrolet dealer (youman's chevrolet, macon, ga) tried to find out what was the problem by running diagnostics, but could never determine the cause.since the problem continued to occur, and wondering if the problem could be due to the age of the car, i parked the car and purchased another car in may, 2013.the car is still parked in my yard. I decided to report this because this seems to be the same thing that is happening to the other gm cars but my model is not part of the recall.i know that there are many 1999 luminas still being driven and you need to know that this has happened.

1999 chevrolet lumina ls. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle shutting off while driving. *ldthe consumer stated the pass-key 11 security system activated while driving causing the vehicle to lose steering and braking functions while being driven.

Vehicle will die in middle of the freeway with no prior warning. This makesit very easy to have a terrible accident. Took to dealer, and they replaced alternator.consumer listed that there was a crash and property damage, however did not give any specifics about the accident, there was one person that was injured in the accident.

I was driving the car home and it shut off , now it won't turn back on

The vehicle is leaking coolant out the intake manifold, which is causing the vehiclenot to have any heat, it also caused theengine to over heat. Owner will contact manufacturer....cost of intake manifold replacement $689.15 plus tax. Customer declined repairs.

I have a 1999 chevy lumina - the intake gasket, started leaking, gradually, now it has a bad leak. I read gm has or had a recall on intake gaskets.

Gm safety recall complaint: i backed out of my driveway drove about half a block and smelled smoke; returned home, parked and saw smoke coming from under the hood. Raised hood and found engine own fire in small flames. I proceeded to pour a small bucket of water on the fire and it went out. Coincidentally, i had just received safety recall notice 09047 from gm the same day, stating that the car could catch fire starting with the spark plug wires channel and beyond. I contacted the closest dealer robbins chevrolet and who told me to call gm because the car had already caught on fire. I proceeded to contact gm where i received claim number 71-100-902-8310 and was then told it would take 7 to 10 business days before they could get back to me and let me know if they would even pay for serving or even authorize a dealer to check the vehicle for cause. This is my only mode of transportation and i do not understand the lack of concern for me as a customer or why getting the vehicle checked based on the recall would be in question. My complaint is the lack of concern and extremely long time frame involved in getting authorization to get my vehicle fixed based on the safety recall. The recall letter states "if you notice a burning odor, you should have your gm dealer inspect your vehicle immediately."i followed the procedure only to be told policy dictates they have 7 to 10 business days before letting me know if they are even willing to have the dealer check the vehicle. And while this may be policy, 7 to 10 business days is a long time when you have go to work and this is your only mode of transportation. I am disappointed in gm's handling of this situation and i feel theinvestigation and resolution are being handled poorly.

While driving, the head gasket blew out due tobad antifreeze. Consumer managed to pull over, and had the vehicle towed. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.*sc

The contact owns a 1999 chevrolet lumina. The contact stated that the vehicle was leaking oil. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the valve cover gasket failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v701000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 102,000.updated 08/16/16*ljupdated 08/17/16

We own a 1999 chevrolet lumina ltz with the naturally aspirated l36 3.8l v6. The vehicle has the problem that it leaks both oil and engine coolant internally. It has been checked out by professionals and has been proven true. The professional discovered the engine is leaking along about three seals, two on the front and one on the rear of the motor. We must pour coolant into the reservoir once every couple weeks or even sooner. The oil is burned off and usually needs filled by the time it needs an oil change (about once every 3000 miles). All systems are working properly in the vehicle. After driving, one can smell the fumes from burning oil and coolant. General motors did recall this engine recently for engine fires to only prevent the spread by removing a spark plug channel and replacing two spark plugs. Gm needs to address what's causing them in the first place. General motors corp. Has also placed a recall for the l67, which is the "supercharged" version of the l36, for similar issues such as engine seals leaking. This makes for a very aggravating situation. We have been told that repair of this issue could cost at least $1600. From listening to others with the same motor, they are having the same problems, so it's not just our vehicle. Gm must take responsibility and action to help owners or completely pay to replace their motor seals.

1999 chevy lumina is leaking oil from the valve cover gasket as confirmed by two separate mechanics. Gm has issued a recall due to fire hazard for this issue but only authorizes dealers to replace the spark plug channel to prevent the spread of fire. Oil can still leak into the manifold, which due to temperature, yet posing a fire hazard. Also, the oil begins leaking externally posing the initial fire hazard but as the problem progresses, the leakage becomes internal and seepage into the coolant nullifies coolant function causing the engine to overheat. This poses an additional fire hazard and even if no fire occurs the engine will still seize due to overheating causing accident risk.when contacting gm, customer service stated that they could not provide technical answers but would contact the local dealership and placed a conference call.the service department confirmed that a leaking valve cover gasket was the source of the problem and could still pose a threat but they were not authorized to correct the problem but would be 'happy to check it out and fix the problem at our expense' even though it's a defective part. They could not confirm why the actual problem is not being corrected, only the channel cover in a token effort to appease consumers but not truly correct the problem and referred me back to gm customer service. Gm customer service can offer no reasoning other than they don't think it's necessary to correct the problem, just minimize possible risk of fire spreading.i am personally aware of four other individuals under this safety recall, #09047, that have had the same problem to the degree the engine has overheated and will need replacement but still gm refuses to correct the actual safety issue.these people have been stranded, narrowly avoided an accident, and even had to put a small fire out them self.minimizing a significant fire threat is not nearly sufficient when it can be prevented.

1999 chevrolet lumina stalled without warning. Consumer states that the vehicle stalled a second time and was restarted. Dealer has stated they could not find anything wrong with the vehicle. He states he can only drive it short distances.

(1)our '99 lumina had an intake gasket failure and a water pump failure which i was told is due to a design failure of the gasket (2) thankfully we found the problem soon and the engine wasn't effected (3) the shop replaced the intake gasket set, water pump, replaced coolant and seals at a cost of $795.13.

Fumes of evaporated coolant from faulty gasket were sucked into vehicles ventilation system. Gm needs to take responsibility.

Coolant leak off of bottom side of motor.i own a 3.1 liter v6 and the cost of replacement is outrageous considering that i have been researching this problem on the internet and have several posts that have had the same problem. I have a 1999 chevy lumina, my coolant leak started over 2 years ago. I have not fixed it cause i don't drive the car that much, my car only has 90000 original miles on it. The leak of coolant is due to poor manufacturing of manifold gasket seal. Please refer to this website for more complaints: http://www.arfc.org/complaints/1999/chevrolet/lumina

My lumina suddenly began to loose refrigerant causing the car to overheat. Took the car to several shops including a dealership and the diagnosis was a lower manifold gasket. Each and every repair facility said this is very common in the lumina. With 56000 miles i am now faced with a very expensive repair.if this is so common why has nothing been done about this.? i have had an air conditioner replaced as well as many other expensive items. I am paying twice for this vehicle in repairs. The position of the battery makes it impossible for a person to replace themselves. The lumina is turning into a money pit.

I have a 1999 chevrolet lumina. A couple of weeks ago my car started to over heat. It became increasingly worst. The car was leaking coolant severely. I took the car in to the shop and was told it was the intake manifest gasket. I never knew how much this was a problem until i started to research this. It will cost be about 350.00 dollars to have it fixed. I have also had to replace my water pump.

I began having problems with my car overheating.i changed the thermostat and all the radiator hoses in order to fix the problem. Thinking that this corrected the problem because my mechanic could not find a leak i continued to drive the car.it was not until i had to start using the heater in oct 09 when the problem recurred.i then used radiator flush and cleaner and still my mechanic was unable to find the leak.i was having to put antifreeze in the car several times in order to make it to work (usually a 15 min drive).one cold morning i noticed the car was smoking from under the hood and was able to make it to the mechanic shop. It was at this time that he showed me the leak at the intake manifold.he was able to fix the problem, but informed me that this is a recurring problem with this car.the fix is only temporary.it cost me several hundred dollars to fix the intake manifold gasket (650.00).this does not include all the other work and repairs that were made prior to replacing the intake manifold gaskets.i changed the thermostat twice and all the radiator hoses before finding the leak in the intake manifold and getting it fixed.i would also go through a gallon of dex-cool antifreeze every other day; at a cost of $14.00 plus tax.the old part is no longer available.my mechanic showed it to me and it was eaten up.he told me he has fixed hundreds of cars with this same engine and problem...

Only by observing a slight but lesser coolant level in the overflow jug of my 1999 lumina l/s passenger car, were we made aware of this costly defect at such an early stage. A subsequent and closer look at the applicable areas, resulted in confirmation of a leak at the intake manifold. At a cost of $850.00 to replace gaskets and vital fluids, i was very surprised to encounter such a heavy duty repair for this low mileage and vigilantly looked after chevy product. Fortunately for me the discovery was made prior to an engine overheat, which would certainly have resulted in more sever and expensive repairs. Much thanks to my husband for his meticulous care of our chevy vehicles.

There was coolant leaking from underneath the vehicle, causingvehicle to overheat.dealership is aware ofproblem.

My 1999 lumnia, at 28,000 miles developed a coolant leak around the intake gasket and head gasket. Was small but dealer replaced the battery, then a week later the alternator, at 38,000 the coolant leak was very noticeble. $$$ to replacegaskets when i was told the manufactuer knew of the bad gaskets used in its manufactureing.

Car was purchased on 4/23/01, up until todays date 5/21, i have had these problems occur: 4/25 upon braking car would shake, it was determined the rotors were warped. 4/28, driving out of town front tire blew out, had to replace both front tires within two daysof each other along with noise and vibration from braking.while driving on interstate loud roar and vibration noise coming from rear tires, car pulling all over highway at speed of 60mph.5/11 complained to dealership, they perform alignment.cleaning ashtray, upon replacing back piece broke. Noise coming from ac, when i accelerate, it became louder, turn off ac, noise went away. Called chevrolet dealership, fan motor needed to be replaced.roar coming from tires, he stated tires needed to be replaced, not to sure, tread wear still in good shape.windshield washer does not work on passenger side.while sitting at traffic light or stop position, car seems as if it wants to shut off. This past weekend 5/19, i smell gas fumes.also, after having brake inspection performed, it was determined that brake pads were needed, honda said they were not, but til this day, when braking i hearing scrubbing or rubbing noise when braking, and turning either right or left. Please note, i was not able to record all this information in the "failed component parts" section..

Leaking intake manifold gasket on 3.1 v-6, 1999 chevrolet lumina, 54k mileage. Dealer estimates $1000 to repair. Internet sites list many cars with same problem. Gm needs to address this problem. Complete engine failure will be the result if i don't fix it - but why should i pay when chevrolet didn't do their engineering correct on the gasket and coolant.ts

Leaking gasket on 1999 chevrolet lumina with about 55000 miles. Internet lists many cars with this same problem. It seems that gm uses bad gasket material. It costs owner $650 to repair. Gm should bear the cost because they used bad gaskets.*la

While driving, the head gasket failed, which caused fluid to leak.

The contact owns a 1999 chevrolet lumina.when the contact took the vehicle to the dealer for scheduled maintenance, she was informed that the intake gasket needed to be replaced.the repair will cost $1,000.the current and failure mileages were 51,000.

The contact owns a 1999 chevrolet lumina.while driving 25 mph, the contact noticed smoke coming out of the vents in the passenger compartment.she stopped the vehicle, opened the hood, and noticed flames coming from the engine.the fire occurred without warning.the fire department was called and they extinguished the fire and filed a report.the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence.there were no injuries.the failure mileage was 180,375.

Engine with 60,000 miles is basically dead, chevy wants $500. To "look" inside and see what the problem is. Private mechanic said it's something to do with the pistons not properly fitting into cylinders. (i think he called it "piston slam") have heard of others with same 3.1 engine dying anywhere between 60 and 80 thousand miles. Why should i have to pay $500 for them to look at it, and then another $3500 for a new engine?yes, the car went out of warranty in dec. But this is obviously a pre-existing problem that should be under recall. *nlm

1999 chevrolet lumina, only 70,000 miles, have had the injectors flushed x3, now need manifold replaced and head gasket replaced, costing approximately $1000.problem related to defective gaskets on chevrolet's part should be paid for by chevrolet, not the auto owner.chevrolet has been aware of this problem and there are numerous persons having to replace parts due to their failure to make a correction or a recall.i want chevrolet held responsible and to reimburse myself and others that have had to have this done to their vehicles.*la

Intake manifold cracked...gaskets leaking.coolant wont stay in engine.i have researched and many 1999 luminas (3.1v-6 are having the identical problem)approximately cost of repairs $1,000.00gm is definitely aware of this huge problem. A total recall of this vehicle and correct this problem must be made immediately.*la

My car was parked in my garage and i notice anti freeze leaking. I had the car looked at and was told it is the intake vavle that needs to be replaced. I am going to have the repair done and yes the replaced part is available. My vehicle is a 1999 chevy lumina and i only have 60,000 mile on it. I have maintained my car according to the manual and have had several major problems with it. I have had to replace 2 fuel enjectors. I replaced the altenator at 41,900. I am very good at keeping my car maintained and it has never been driven rough. I am the only owner and the car had less than 100 miles on it when i bought it.

I have a 1999 chevy lumina purchase new in 1999.the intake gasket has ben serviced on 3/14/03 at $216, on 12/15/03 car smoking and fluid leaking again and this was $737.now i have been faced with the same problems.for several weeks i was adding coolant on a weekly basis until it started to be every 2-3 days.then the car started smoking and i panic and took it to the nearest shop on my way to work.the manager told me that it was a intake gasket manifold problem.when they were done it had cost me $763 dollars.i was told that there were other vehicles in their shop with similar problems.however, after leaving that same day, the car begun hesitating when accelerating as though it was not getting any gas.that made no since because i had 3/4 of a tank of gas.why are these problems happening at this point because i have consistently serviced this vehicle on a regular basis since purchasing in 1999.i am told that there are recalls on these particular problems.please help me because i value and take good care of my cars, but i feel that everything is defective.i have also had issues with having to have brake jobs every 6 mos. On this same vehicle.what is the problems.will you help.

My starter recently went on my 1999 chevrolet, lumina, upon repair it was found the failure was due to a short created by a seal failure in my engine.the antifreeze is leaking out my engine block from the manifold/seal and onto my starter.this was saidd to be due to the plastic seal used on the aluminum engine. It is said to not be "chemically compatible" causing "inevitable warping of the seal". The cost for repair is be $600 just for a new seal.but at 54,000 miles they suggest to due the standard maintainance while the engine is out like tune up, transmission flush, etc. Looking at a cost of $950.this has been told to me by several mechanics to be a "manufactures defect" but it has been overlooked due to the overwhelming numbers of lumina's that have beeen sold.i find this unexceptable as a buyer who trusted gm and cheverolet consumer reports and its overall reputation of quality.now i feel like i am driving a time bomb which can't be sold without my loss due to its faulty seal and the required repair.i had to replace my battery first because i was loosing power ($65) and thenhad to try process of elimination by the suggestion of auto zone and their computer read out.my car was still not starting so then after having my car towed, due to the short in the starte.i had to have my starter replaced due to the leak from my engine and the cost then (for a lifetime warranty) was $182 plus the antifreeze flush i paid for to try and stop the leak.i am very disappointed. How can such a defect be accepted by such a prominent manufacturer.

Manifold leak developed at 62,840. Miles, resulting in loss of coolant and a $500. Repair bill. Now i see from this site that many, many others have same problems with gm 3.1 liter v6 engines! n.a.h.

I have 3 different complaints. 1.the rotors on my car had to be replaced 3 times before i had driven 36,000 miles.they would wear unevenly, and cause noise and vibrations whenever the brake was applied.2. And the brakes need fixing again, but the warranty expired at 36,000 miles.3.whenever the engine is under accerlation,my air conditioner does not cool. Turn signal switch causes rear brake lights not to work. I didn't find out about it until a police officer pulled me over for the brake lights not coming on. I was let off with a warning. I did a search online and found that there is a lot of people with the same problem as me with the same model vehicle. This can cause a serious accident due to the fact that the people behind you on the road will not see that you are stopping.

Brake lights do not work.third brake light in back dash works.the brake lights work sometimes when the turn signal switch is used.bulbs and fuses are o.k.

Brake lights not working or working on/off. Found the cause to be the turn signal switch after replacing the stop light switch several times.this problem is very dangerous and should be repaired by the manufacturer at no cost to the owners of the cars.

Car caught fire in my driveway 10 minutes after i returned home. Luckily no one was injured and fire dept. Was able to put out fire before it spread to my home. Fire inspector said it looked like it was caused by the fuel injectors.

Vehicle is experiencing a problem with the gas tank. The seam where the top of the tank and the bottom come together are rusted, causing the vehicle to lose a lot of gasoline. Consumer had to have the fuel tank replaced by an independent repair shop.

The gas gaugereads incorrectly. Sometimes it reads more than what is in the tank, and sometimes it reads less than what's in the tank. Dealer has seen vehicle 3 times and still cant find solution.

Bought 99 chevy lumina used 5-6 months ago checked everything out, found nothing serious with car just minor tune up needed and new tires. Gave car to my son as a good firstcar, last night took him to fill up gas tank and smelled gas, looked under the car and saw a dripcoming from what appears the gas tank. Parked car at home and looked under car, no leak thought maybe i spilled gas, this morning he left for school and there is a visable puddle from wherehe was parked.

This can cause a serious accident due to the fact that the people behind you on the road will not see that you are stopping.

While driving at 30 mph, the consumer heard a clanking and grinding sound coming from the brakes.the sounds could be heard when ever the brakes were depressed.the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who informed the consumer the rivets from the brakes shoes rusted off.the manufacturer was aware of the problem.*mr

When applying brakes after 35mph on wet roads, brakes failed.felt like not having brakes when applied, and extended stopping distance.brakes were getting wet and a few seconds later, would dry out before catching. Had been in contact with dealer and informed no recall.

When driving in rainy weather conditions with wet pavement brakes get wet. Vehicle is very hard to stop, brake pedal gets very hard which causes delay in braking, resulting in extended stopping distance.consumer has contacteddealer, dealer unable to determine the cause of the problem.

Consumer states that the braking performance in wet weather or wet condition is reduced more then expected. A recall has been issued on similar problem. Feel free to provide amny further information.

Ongoing severe braking problems upon applying brakes on wet roads.it causes extended stopping distances.the vehicle has been to two separate dealers and one repair shop, no one is able t0 locate the cause of the problem.the consumer states that thae characteristics of the problem are the same as those described for the 95-99 monte carlo's-nhtsa sic #011014000;are built on, (the same chasis and use the same components).*scc

Concern: 1999 low mileage chevrolet lumina. Problems with the abs and traction control systems. Corrosion or defective wheel sensors can cause total loss of braking at slow speeds. My customer explained that his abs light was on for several months. He had driven threw his fence after turning into his driveway. He mentioned that he would lose all braking if the traction control and abs light came on at the same time, the abs and traction control unit was actuating. It was my understanding that if the abs light was on in all vehicles the abs would drop out of the braking system rendering the vehicle with conventional brakes. I guess this is not true with some late model gms. I have learned that diagnosing intermittent wheel sensors and wiring is a daunting task. The vehicle we worked on had a defective right front wheel sensor. We scoped the signal from the sensor and it showed perfect amplitude, voltage and wave form. Further testing showed it read open with an ohmmeter. Unless the circuit is completely open or shorted testing the wheel sensors and wiring with an ohmmeter or a scope is useless at times. In the past following a gm trouble code flow chart was useless, the fix was to rewire and replace the suspect parts. . i feel that gm should recall these vehicles. Or at least offer the replacement parts including a reprogrammed traction control/abs controller at a reasonable price.searching the archives i found one other late model gm with the same type of problems and loss of low speed braking. 1997 pontiac grand amengine:2.4 l / 146 cid / 4 cyl / gas / dohcfuel:fuel injectionignition:distributorlesstrans: 4-speed automatic transaxle (electronic)mileage: 95,000 mivin: [xxx]time. Today customer comes in with a complaint of clicking, loss of pedal, and no stop. Customer was in today we gotthe abs to actuate and he said thats what it was doing. While driving in the rain, the brake pedal gets soft with 1" - 2" of free travel, the brakes fade out and the brake pedal get real hard. The dealer said that's the way lumina brakes are. Upon my insisting, the dealer replaced the front pads and turned the rotors which improved braking in the rain. The dealer would not replace the rear pads or turn the rear rotor even though the rear rotor is stained and pitted. A chevy dealer mechanic told me that to correct the problems that my lumina is having the brake pads have to be replaced and the rotors turned or replaced.

Brakes fail to engage properly when wet (from rain or car wash). Same problem as nhtsa campaignim01i014000. Not a recall but looking at the complaints for lumina and monte carlo i think it should be. Feel free to drive mine and see what you think.

Brakes scrubbing/rubbing when backing up or turning to the right.nlm

While driving in the rain and when brakes are applied they don't hold, as a result the driver had an accident, the dealer was contacted and stated that the extremely glazed brakes made it difficult for the vehicle to stop in rainy or wet condition, the vehicles vin falls within the range for a service bulletin which references this problem but the dealer stated that this recall has nothing to do with his car. *nlm

While backing up or turning to the right brakes make noise.

This vehicle seems to have a defect with the brakes in wet weather braking.the braking effectiveness is significantly reduced in wet weather.sometimes it is almost like you have no brakes at all!i think this is a design flaw and should be corrected.i moved this year to ny so the vehicle is no longer being serviced at the dealer listed which is where i originally purchased.dt

When applyingbrakespedal would go tofloor before stopping.dealer replaced pads, and problem still exists.

Sitting overnite vehicle front rotors for oxides and causes substantial increase in stop distances for first 4 to 5 miles.

I have 3 different complaints. 1.the rotors on my car had to be replaced 3 times before i had driven 36,000 miles.they would wear unevenly, and cause noise and vibrations whenever the brake was applied.2. The transmission leaked from the pan, and the gasket had to be replaced 2 or 3 times.the transmission still leaks. And the brakes need fixing again, but the warranty expired at 36,000 miles.3.whenever the engine is under accerlation,my air conditioner does not cool. The vents close off preventing cold air from coming through.how many other owners have reported problems similar to these?

At 42000 miles i feel that the rear wheel cylinders should not leak.

The abs system had broken and had failed to stop vehicle when brake pedal was pressed. Also, when its raining and pressing on brake pedal and turning steering wheel, brakes would lock up completely. Would also make loud grinding noises. Mr

I wasdriving my husband's 1999 lumina. I stopped at an intersection to wait to make a left turn. The light changed i proceeded into the intersection, i turned the steering wheel, however the car proceeded straight. The tires would not turn, however the steering wheel turned freely but the tires would not turn. I had to have the car towed to a mechanic. After he examined the car it was determined that the welds that hold the support structure to the frame had failed. I had to have the original welds redone costing me $ 400.00 then another $ 300.00 to have the engine re-aligned. If this had occurred on a highway that we often travel we would have died as that road has sharp curves and no shoulders only deep canyons to fall into.

1999 chevrolet lumina.consumer writes in regards to several mechanical problems and recall issues.the consumer stated the vehicle cut off, while driving on the highway. It was determined, the ignition needed to be replaced.also, the wiring harness in the steering column went out, the egr valve was replaced twice, the consumer had shifting problems and the heat and a/c were inoperative.

My steering wheel has been locking up while driving and i have almost crashed into other vehicles and buildings.

I took my car for a service repair. (tune up)only to discover on the waya awkward smell and misfire. Upon arriving i was notified that the internal hood insulation broke free and crumbled in chunks on top of my fuel injector and created a heat that melted four of the fuel injector wires covers and all.

The vehicle does not seem safe, the tires have a loud roar, and the car is hard to keep in the road. Someone from another dealership told us it seemed like the wheel bearings. Coles knows there is a problem with the tires but says there is nothing they can do. It has been checked several times. I feel that this car needs to be fixed.lt is starting to shake and shimmy on speeds of 40 and higher.( dot number: )

Vehicle kills while accelerating froma stop. Not every time but i've been stuck in the middle of an intersection trying to restart it from a stop light.

This is a leased car i have had since november 1998. I drive with an accelerator adapter that allows me to use my left foot.this is the third car in which i have used such an adapter and have never had any problems.neither did i have trouble with this car until may 1999.in may i had three incidents of sudden and unexpected accleration while slowly backing out of a driveway or a parking space in a lot.with each incident it was increasingly more difficult to stop.the first time firm pressure on the brake finally stopped it and i could shift into drive and stop. In the second the car finally stalled out after bucking and roaring as i literally stood on the brake while pulling on the steering wheel for more pressure.this was after backing almost the length of a 200 foot driveway which ends in a busy street.in the third incident the car finally stopped after ramming a van and moving its back end 2 feet from where it was parked and bouncing off a second van after which my car spun around full circle and finally stalled out.after the first incident i had checked the adapter and everything was ok.i intended to take the car in for service the following week and thought i'd tell them what happened at that time.but the second incident happened the following saturday and the third the tuesday after that. I was told by the shop that fixed the car that there is nothing wrong with it but they did not get a gm engineer to check it as my insurance company suggested.harold chevrolet now has the car and are trying to replicate the problem.i do not want the car back and i want to get out of the lease before the car kills someone. Not only was the result worse each time this happened but the time between decreased with each incident.

Vehicle accelerated on its own at 35-40 mph, increasing speed to 60 mph. Consumer had to apply brakes hard to stop vehicle. Mechanic statedthrottle plate housing needed to be replaced.

I went to our garage, entered the lumina, fastened my seat belt, started the car, put my foot on the brake, and put it in reverse.the engine roared and the car took off in reverse while my foot was still on the brake.the car proceeded across an alley and into the driveway of the residence there;it then crashed through the 18 foot garage door (my foot still on the brake), through the garage and through the back wall into another neighbor's back yard where the engine stalled.a witness who was driving his truck in the alley said he saw the brake lights on during the incident.the chevrolet dealer doing the repairs could find nothing mechanically wrong with the car.i am afraid this sudden acceleration might happen again or to other 1999 lumina owners with even more disastrous results.

Without warning accelerator pedal got stuck to the floor while driving driving 22 mph, causing the consumer to lose control of the vehicle and hit a light pole. Upon impact, both frontal airbags did not deploy.
