Takita recall airbag may be the cause of passenger side dash expanding outwards.unsure of cause.expansion is slowing coming out of sem. Have noticed approximately two years ongoing.
Intermittently air bag light stays illuminated when driving.consumer had it checked.dealer stated it would be an expensive repair. Dealer hasn't taken it back to have it fixed.
Vehicle been experiencing ongoing / intermittent problem with air bag sensor coming on and remaining on. Dealer /manufacturer were not notified at this time. Seeking help from nhtsa in this matter.

The evenflo on my way infant car seat was not very safe once installed in any vehicle. My infant son was able to kick out the seat belt from the top thread.we were unable to use the base attached to it since it would not fit in my car.another problem that makes me very furious.everybody is so concerned in safety of the car seat itself, but did they ever install one of these things.most parents prefer the car seat to be installed in the rear center, but are unable to do that because of the design of this seatbelt.is it possible to make this seatbelt comply with the car seat installations. For instance, make all rear center seats a standardbelt and latch that conform to all car seats?

Vehicle would not turn using the key, took our vehicle to the dealership.. Had a new key made.. The key was not the issue..had a new ignition installed through dealership, the vehicle worked for a short time but starting showing the same problems. Hundreds of $$ later, the car is parked now we don't want to put any more money into it, but can't sell it unless it's fixed. This is some sort of steering/ignition problem. This car has also been known to stall while driving it. We have installed a new starter, a new alternator, battery we also had all the electrical wiring re-done.. We don't know why itstalls.
Possible electrical problems with the cruise control when engaged.when consumer made a lane change from right to left the cruise control was disengaged.the cruise control also disengaged when the left turn signal was turned on.this condition happended on several occasions. *ph
The contact owns a 1998 chevrolet lumina.while driving between 30-35 mph, the vehicle stalls and the speedometer displays inaccurate readings.when the accelerator pedal is depressed, the vehicle kicks and begins losing speed.the vehicle is either losing or not getting enough fuel.the vehicle had to be towed on more than one occasion.the dealer could not duplicate the failure.the contact believes that the cause of the failure was the catalytic converter.nhtsa campaign id number 073021000 (fuel system, other:storage:tank assembly:pressure relief devices).the failure mileage was 114,000.
Design of the placement of the battery makes it diffficult to jump start another vehicle.
Alternator just dies on highway and warning light comes on about 3 seconds before vehicle will die in middle of speeding cars.once consumer was hit andcould have been killed.took to dealer, and they put in a new alternator.
Alternator failed.yh
It's difficult to depress and sound the horn. Dealer has inspected the vehicle several times. *ml
Extreme pressure is required when applying the horn which could become dangerous in emergency traffic situations, cause unknown.please give any further details.
Horn design creates a difficulty in trying to activate during emergency situations, only one location can be hit to engage due to air bag/horn design.
Very hard to invoke sound from the horn. My family almost got into an accident because the horn failed to produce sound.
Ignition failed.yh
Loss of power / stalls/ as it is being driven down rd.
At 30,000 miles vehicle been experiencing an ongoing / intermittent problem with engine stalling while driving. Vehicle been in / out of dealer shop on five occasions, and it appearedproblem was stilloccurrinng.please feel free to provide any further details on this matter.
Loss of power / stalls/ as it is being driven down rd.
While driving the vehicle and coming to a stop, the car will cut-off without warning.also, driving down the road it will skip/pull back and keep moving while driving 55/70 mph.it's been in the shop four (4) times and they can't find the problem.nothing happens until i drive it home and the problem occurs again.has anyone else complained about this problem?
The pass-key ii theft-deterrent system prevented the starting of my vehicle with one of my initial keys.i used the spare key for a while and now the system will not allow starting of the vehicle with both keys.the cost to fix this is too excessive for a chevy 1998 lumina ltz. The car is on a government site and i don't have the vin# or accurate purchase date available until i have it towed.
Both rear brake lights have failed and only the center high mounted lights are working. I replaced the bulbs but taht did not help so i did a little troubleshooting and found that the bulbs worked as they lit up when i used the signal lights, hazard lights, and head lights. I next tried replacing the turn signal/harzard flasher but this did not resolve the problem.i checked on the internet and found that several people have had this problem and the failure was caused by a faulty turn signal lever and that if this part was wiggled the lights would work again.i checked this on the car and flipped the high beams on and off a couple of times via the turn signal stalk and the brake lights started to work again.i find this extremely dangerous that a critical piece of safety equipment relies on something as trivial as a turn signal stalk. I have also heard that general motors has issuad a recall concerning this problem but that it was very narrowly confined and did not include this vehicle despite the fact that many people seem to have had this problem.
Possible electrical wiring system failure resulting in vehicle fire. *et
The contact owns a 1998 chevrolet lumina. The contact stated that the passenger side air bag was protruding as if it were going to explode. In addition, the contact mentioned that oil was leaking onto the exhaust manifold and the engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 80,000.
The contact owns a 1998 chevrolet lumina. The contact stated that the vehicle was serviced per nhtsa campaign number: 15v701000 (engine and engine cooling); however, the remedy caused other issues with the vehicle. When the vehicle was started, smoke appeared under the hood and the contact noticed a crack in the vacuum hose. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the water pump needed replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 185,000.
Vehicle making banging noise took to shop tolda burnt valve, ( it wasdriven in/out of shops) second shop weeks of investigating, same diagnosis. Lackedfunds to repair, took home. Read about recall contacted manufacturer referred to local dealer. Dealer said parts were being ordered based onrecall, but took it in earlier than contact. Service person indicated that my vehicle is not part of recall..they coulddiagnose and repair but cost in the thousands.i couldn't afford that or continue getting tickets (not able to move it because battery needed a full charge. I am a woman know little about cars, did not want to get stuckif it defaulted.second repair shopadvised me that i could drive it until it just stopped, the dealer said it was definitely not in recall so idonated to kars for kids.on 3/8/16got a call from same lot telling me my recall parts had come in.puzzled & alarmed told caller about their service dept. She seemed apuzzled so i explained what happened.she checked &told me that there was no record of my appointment &service person had no knowledge of me. Puzzled as to what is going on?paid aaa $60.00 for tow paid $35.00 for used tire. Tow guy said i could drive car dealer and save tow fee but i'm not comfortable driving broke car so i had him tow.my question is how does a consumer know if their specific car falls under a recall?the car was my landlord's dying gift to me.i drove him and his wife to church, to the bank, to the doctor, for oil changes, etc.i never recalled taking it for a recall and my landlord was in his 90's i didn't know ifhe had overlooked recall so my motivation to check.talked to mgr. Ofdealersh 3/8/16 he said he would investigate, service personwas experienced and he was sorry about my vehicle. Now i, a senior citizen have no means of transportation.
The contact owns 1998 chevrolet lumina.the contact stated that the engine rattled and made a lot of noise until it warmed up. The contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealer. The failure mileage and current mileages were 112,000.
My report: original diagnostic codewas 3rd cylinder spark plug. Symptoms were consistent with this. Car drove fine that evening until the engine had trouble, sputtered and shut off. Mechanic looked at it and determined there was no coolant and came to the conclusion that the engine failed because this model and year is known for coolant leak internally by intake manifold gasket. There were no signs of coolant leak externally prior to this, didn't blow white smoke out the back, the low coolant light didn't go on, the oil was full, no milky stuff in radiator either, the car drove like new, and the car only had 76,000 miles on it. The car had one previous owner and was well-maintained by that owner and myself. I bought it 2 years ago with only 38,000 miles on it. I looked into why the intake manifold gasket would leak and found 2 reports. Because this was a defect, i should be compensated with and engine or money for the engine from chevy:problem reports:chevrolet lumina report: intake manifold gaskets may leak coolant or engine oilmodel years affected: 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001engines affected: 3.1l v6, 3.4l v6, 3.8l v6the intake manifold gasket may develop and external engine oil or coolant leak. In some cases, an internal coolant leak may occur causing coolant to mix with the engine oil. Our technicians tell us that operating the enginewith a coolant/oil mix can result in internal engine damage. Replacing the intake manifold gasket should correct these leaks.unfortunately the 3.1 litre engine has a manufacture flaw. The gasket is plastic and rubber. Over time the plastic cracks due the heat and the rubber seal fails.felpro has redesigned that gasket. Instead of being plastic and rubber it is steel and rubber.
The contact owns a 1998 chevrolet lumina. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the vehicle started to smoke excessively. The contact heard a loud noise then there was fire coming from the front under the hood of the vehicle. The contact also stated that the valve cover gasket failed and the upper manifold was crack. The vehicle was destroyed due to the fire. The fire department extinguished the fire. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 15v701000 (engine and engine cooling) after the fire occured. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 245,000.
My complaint is about recall # 15v701000, and also my car started leaking water into the oil so i had to park it up for a while and just been without a ride ever since any help would be appreciated.
Engine compartment caught fire.while i was driving.
The contact owns a 1998 chevrolet lumina. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 15v701000 (engine and engine cooling). The dealer scheduled an appointment and later indicated that the part was not available. The manufacturer was notified, but could not provide a date for when the vehicle would receive the recall repair. The contact had not experienced a failure. Vin tool confirms parts not available.
The contact owns a 1998 chevrolet lumina. While driving 35 mph, an unusual sound emitted from the front passenger side tire. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the engine cradle was loose. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 229,000.
When the vehicle was parked antifreeze leaked from underneath the vehicle.the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer for an inspection, and the mechanic determined that the gasket needed to be replaced.*sc
The contact owns a 1998 chevrolet lumina. The consumer stated about 1/2 mile away from her house, the vehicle started sputtering. She pulled the vehicle over and decided to walk home. When she returned with her husband the fire department was putting out a fire from her vehicle. The consumer notified the manufacturer in reference to recall # 09v116000 (engine and engine cooling); however, a representative concluded that the statue of limitations in south carolinadoes not require the manufacturer to assume responsibility after 7 months. The failure mileage was 100,000.updated 11/04/09*ljupdated 11/06/09.
The contact owns a 1998 chevrolet lumina.the contact received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign id number 09v116000 (engine and engine cooling) and immediately called the dealer.she was informed that the parts for the repair would be unavailable for another week.as a consequence, if the manifold is hot enough and the oil runs below the heat shield, it may ignite into a small flame and spread to the plastic spark plug wire channel and beyond, thus increasing the risk of an engine compartment fire.the vehicle has not been repaired.the manufacturer was not notified.the failure and current mileages were 86,000.
I bought a 1998 chevrolet lumina in 2000, and never experienced any significant problems, until recently.the engine began misfiring on cylinder 1 and i replaced the spark plugs and plug wires assuming it would correct the issue.during this time, i also did an oil change and checked all fluids and found the antifreeze to appear "rusted".i checked in the overflow resevoir and noted oil and a dirty appearance to the antifreeze.i had the antifreeze system flushed, and now the problems are back, less than 5,000 miles later.while searching for the potential problem on the internet, i found a lot of data talking about the dex-cool issues and head gasket problems.i have talked to several mechanics, and they seem to believe that the head gasket is bad, which is causing the misfire problem.this is going to be a costly repair, one of which i don't feel i should have to pay for since there seems to be a growing issue with head gaskets and the dex-cool antifreeze.
The contact owns a 1998 chevrolet lumina.in march of 2008, the vehicle was purchased with a cracked windshield.the dealer repaired the windshield.the following day, while driving 20 mph, the brakes failed and nearly caused a crash.the vehicle was taken back to the dealer and they kept it for three days.a few days later, the vehicle shut off completely.the vehicle was repaired once more, but it shut off again.the dealer refused to make any more repairs.the current mileage is 140,000 and failure mileage was 129,897. Updated 7/3/08 the consumer stated the vehicle stalled at least 10 times. The consumer was informed the engine was bad.updated 07/03/08
1998 chevrolet lumina.consumer writes in regards toreplacement parts not available to repair recall notice 15757.the consumer stated the vehicle has an oil leak, and she was advised not to park in a garage.
For weeks the vehicle loses fluid and the engine overheats.the vehicle was taken to a dealer, who stated that lower intake gasket wasblown.
1998 chevy lumina passenger carintake leaking after dealer repaired under warranty work.intake leaking again at under 69,000 miles, and we are told that this is a manufacturing defect that can be done again with a new sealant chevrolet recommends. This at a cost of $675 to us after we are told that this is a problem from the mateing of the two surfaces of aluminum and iron on the engine.same dealer has done all the prevenitive mantenance on this vehicle.we are told this is a manufacturing problem with the intake.
I have had my car (98 chevrolet lumina) fail twice in one week due to cooling system failure. Once for a water pump and another for intake manifold gasket. I am alarmed by the number of similar complaints i find. Both failures have left us stuck with no transportation.
There is a ticking noise coming fromfront of vehicle. Noise could be heard if the engine is idling or whilevehicle is in park andgas pedal is being depressed.consumer took vehicle into dealership to have it examined, and technician informed the consumer thatnoise was due to a 'normal piston slap.'
Oil pan gasket leaking in rear, dealer replaced oil pan gasket, 13 months later with 86000 miles the intake gasket was leaking oil and the dealer replaced the gaskets.
Contact states:contacthad the car for a total of six days and the first three days hada head gasket replaced.now the car is in the shop again, and they do not know what is wrong with the vehicle.it is running, and making a knocking noise from the engine. Dealer told contact to put motor honey in the vehicle to quite down the engine, and he refused to put the motor honey in the engine.
No major warning leading to engine failure.auto has 95,000+ miles on it and engine seized with no apparent warnings or problems observed.found out that type of engine in my car has a defective manufactured part in the engine that caused the problem of which chevy will not recall.if problem would have occurred while driving on a highway, fatal accident could have occurred.
While driving, the car suddenly stalled. It would not restart. I had it towed to the dealer who checked it to find that the engine had died due to a failed cam. This car only has approx 58000 miles on it and it in show room condition. I take extra care to make sure that all maintenance requirements are met. There is no way that this engine should have failed. My extended warrenty expired in may and now the dealer wants me to pay for a new engine. An engine that costs as much as the blue book value of the car in excellent condition.
Car has stalled without any reason or warning.car has experienced engine racing or surging.car has been to the shop and to the dealership (3days) no one able to locate cause.
This car broke two camshafts (the original and after instaling a new one, the first time the mechanic turn on the auto it broke the camshaft again apparently without any reason. I spent more than $3,000 to fully repair the vehicle's engine but finished buying another engine. At this moment is in the mechanic installing the engine. 4 months of paying the car, the insurance and the mechanic and parts without knowing what really happened. 3 mechanics checked the car and found it has a rare lubrication problem in the engine because it does not delivers oil to the other parts of the engine. The oilpump is in good condition and everything seems normal but when you turn on the auto it breaks the camshaft again.
While driving car engine shuts off periodically. Car starts back up and a few minutes later it shuts off again. Had car checked out by mechanic but everything seems to be fine. Can't find reason why continuously shutting off.

Car was running good ,and just had oil changed . I bought it as a program car still under warrenty. Have had no previous problems. Car was running fine one day and the next morning after trying to start it , the car's engine seemed to jump and would not start. The whole car shook. Had it towed and found out that the engine was blown . A piston rod in the engine broke or something like that is what a dealer said, after it was looked at. Dealer i bought it from has been notified. The car is there for repairs now . New engine will have to be put in going to cost $3500.
Problem with internal oil pump ... Unable to buildup enough pressure to adequately service the engine ... 3.1l v6 mfi ohv 12v. What is the company's corrective action re recall. Where do i go for "recall service?".
While driving consumer came to a stop. As consumer pulled off again, the vehicle lost all power. Itshut completely downin an intersection. Dealer has been contacted.
While sitting instopped position and havingbrakes applied brake pedal will slowly lose pressure.this will allowpedal to go tofloorboard.consumer has to pumppedal for this not to occur. Dealership informedconsumer that it was normal for pedal to go to floor if constant pressure is applied. Four b.f. Goodrich tires experienced cracking between the tread, replaced at half price by b.f. Goodrich.consumer states there is a ticking noise in the engine.
Vehicle will not pick up speed and cannot go intolower gears due to a problem withtransaxle. The vehicle stalled while the consumer was driving and it was rear ended causing injury to the driver.
When driving at any speed the dash lights are illuminated, the check engine light comes on , and the vehicle cuts off without no prior warning. Consumer has contacted the dealer.
Engine check light kept coming on. Took vehicle to dealer 12 times, and replaced one fuel injector. Did not remedy problem.dealer then replaced all fuel injectors.dealer also replaced fuel pump, fuel filter, and fuel tank, possible engine problem.

The lower intake manifold gasket.scc ph
All my anti-freeze leaked out and the low coolant light never came on but i did not have any heat.i did notice anti-freeze on the ground and took my car to a repair shop.they said i needed a water pump and the intake manifold gaskets replaced.i have also experienced a popping noise on the left front wheel when turning wheel to the right.no fatalities or injuries as yet.
I purchased my vehicle used and it still had 1000 mile warranty from the dealer. When i got the car there was a problem with the fuel pump so they replaced it. Before i even got out of the parking lot the (vibration shudder hose) went bad. Or at least that is what the guy at the service area told me the name was. They have replaced that. And for almost two years now i have been fighting with them that the power steering has been whining. Also the brakes do not stop to well in the rain. I travel a lot and we go through brakes like water. We also had the ac compressor go out last year during the summer. The car was only 4 years old. We keepour car up very well. I do not understand all these problems. I know this may not seem like big problems but when i keep my car up and have been fighting with the dealer due to whining this is frustrating.
While pulling into the driveway consumer noticed a bright glow (fire)coming from the right side rear reflector light. The fire was extinguished by the father. The dealer was notified.consumer found right rear marker lamp had overheated.
This problem exists bwhen the vehicle is sationary and in transit. It appears to be intermitten as well. My brake lights work when i am braking, but they seem to intermittenly be failing when i use my directional switch (4 way). I have been advised on 3 occassions, twice by sheriff's deputies that my brake lights are not working.but they do work except when the directionals are on. After some research we have discovered that replacing the 4 way switch will resolve the problem.may i note that i have never had this device fail in any of my vehicles ever.that regardless of the ges and makes of my vehiclces the manufacturers have had the good sense to make certain the 4 way switch was reliable.might i add linking braking with the switch might be consider irresponsible ofthe engineers. Has the 1998 chevy lumina 4way switch been recalled!?
The multi purpose switch (turn signal) on my 1998 chevy lumina doesn't work everytime a use the turn signal switch my brake lights go out and i have to wiggle the switch until my brake light come back on. I switched the lever but the problem continues.
We bought the car used. At time of purchase brake lights appeared to work.same evening, the two rear/side brake lights did not work (the third/middle light works).we did some trouble shooting, replaced bulbs, checked for shorts.in our research we found that this is in fact a common problem among gm sedans and is caused by failure of the multifunction switch in the steering column.the switch contacts commonly fail when the switch begins to loosen/disintigrate.this causes a variety of issues among the systems that pass through that switch.brake light failure is one such issue, and obviously a safety issues.yes, i know it's an old car and yes i expect to have to make repairs to it, but i do not expect our student driver to suddenly be without brake lights because of the faulty manufacture of this component.a small amount of research makes it apparent that this is a very common, very widespread problem. It's expensive to fix and beyond most people's diy abilities, besides which i would not be comfortable working with anything that affects the airbag system. There is absolutely no way gm hasn't been aware of this issue.i can't understand why there's no recall for this issue.
The two main brake lights no longer come on when brakes are applied. The 3rd brake light in rear window still works. Both bulbs were checked and even replaced to no avail. The turn signals flash at a high speed, unless the turn signal lever is manipulated with a slight pull/push. Checked several internet sites on the problem, and it seems it may be the directional signal switch. Not sure if this is a major fix with specialized tools if the problem is in the steering column.
1998 chevrolet lumina - brake light failure (center light is ok, both taillights don't work). Very common, according to web searches of the problem. Related to turn signal and/or emergency flasher switch (if these are physically 'jiggled' brake lights temporarily work).
Both rear brake lights have failed and only the center high mounted lights are working. I replaced the bulbs but taht did not help so i did a little troubleshooting and found that the bulbs worked as they lit up when i used the signal lights, hazard lights, and head lights. I do not understand all these problems. I know this may not seem like big problems but when i keep my car up and have been fighting with the dealer due to whining this is frustrating.
The consumer stated that the vehicle experienced a loss of power on numerous occasions while going uphill or passing.the vehicle was taken to a shop and the fuel filter was replaced-this didn't remedy the problem.during a 600 mile trip, the consumer heard a high pitched noise coming from the left rear underside.this only happened when the engine was running.it had become apparent to the consumer that the problem could be from the fuel pump or filter sock.the gas tank was checked for dirty gas, but the fuel tank liquid was clean.the fuel pump/filter was replaced and remedied the problem, upon inspection of the fuel pumpthe consumer noticed that the pump had a label affixed to it's side, the label had partially melted and the residue had run into the filter sock which probably caused the loss of power.*scc *nlm

Upon routine inspection i noticed a bolt was laying loose on the driver side in the engine compartment on top of the transmission housing. After realizing where it went i noticed that another bolt was missing!! the two bolts are the transmission to engine block mounting bolts. I have not found any other bolts missing or loose but it is difficult to see their locations. Would not want to be traveling down the crowded highway at 65mph and have the transmission come apart from the engine!!!.......thanks dave coryea

When i first bought my 1998 chevrolet lumina, all of the brake lights were working properly. However, a few weeks later i was driving and a man told me that my brake lights were out. The top brake light has always worked, but the two side lights and the reverse lights do not work. This has been an ongoing problem ever since i noticed it. We have tired the following: switching the light bulbs, changing the fuses, and getting a professional work done. However, nothing works. The new fuse makes the lights work for less than a day if i'm lucky, but then the fuse blows;and the experts have no idea what is wrong. I live in milwaukee, wi, and have seen over ten cars with the exact same problem! i have gotten pulled over and ticketed 3 times now, and have had to pay over $100 in fines, and at least $300 at the auto shop, just for the brake light problem. Also, the reverse lights have never been fixed, not even with a new fuse put in. Gm needs to fix this problem. I cannot afford to get any more tickets, or fix the problem myself. Seeing that many cars with the same problem has to be a manufactures problem, and i would like something done about this please. Thank you for taking the time to address my concerns.

While applying thebrake pedal andc brakes became inoperative. Consuimer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and pulled over.
I bought this car used with 32,000 mi. From the beginning brakes would not grab in the rain, the brake pedal was extremely hard. The dealer said nothing was wrong and that's the way this car is. I was told that i was not use to 4 wheel disc brakes. (i drive a 4 wheel disc car at work.) i insisted that something was wrong. Dealer turned the front rotors which did not help. I installed high performance disc pads on all four wheels which helped a lot but only for about 20000 miles. The brakes use to when they got wet. This car is unsafe in wet weather! ***dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12-12-02 cut over to artemis***762002

My brakes have always malfunctioned in my vehicle.they have been maintained and will go out when i am turning or trying to stop.i had them checked for 4 years straight- pads changed and completely serviced- my mechanic said it is some computer sensor in the brakes that goes out in this particular chevy.it is expensive and a defect.i have went through intersections- and been so close in rear ending several vehicles because of my inability to stop my car.
Vehicle was set on cruise control at 50-55mph when it started to pick up speed. Consumer appliedbrakes and tried to turn cruise off. To stop vehicle consumer put it in neutral/ applied brakes, and vehicle rolled over some gravel which helpedto slowvehicle down and into park. A mechanic disconnectedcruise control. Brakes were burned out trying to stop the vehicle. Manufacturer referred the consumer to a dealer to have a diagnostic test done.

This problem was addressed properly by the dealership, but the problem still exists.i would appreciate an opportunity to discuss the problem in depth with a nhtsa representative due to the problem dating back to a 1993 lumina, a 1995 lumina and now the 1998 lumina.i have had a lot of experience with brake systems and feel that i can possibility help to answer some of the complaints of drivers stating that their brake pedal went to the floor board.when i had my car serviced, the serviceman stated that he had compared my vehicle brakes and found them to be almost the same as on the new vehicles. I do agree that some of the new vehicles have the same bleed down problem as my vehicle and that is my concern.the service manager agreed that he was concerned about the operation of my brakes and decided to replace the master cylinder and arranged for me to have a car to keep me from driving the car home . Although the problem was only an unusually fast pedal bleed down the manager stated that he too, has a concern about the brake problem and had ordered a brake master cylinder.the new clylinder did reduce the required braking effort but there is still excessivebrake pedal bleed down under light pedal force. I think i can help to determine the problem and suggest a correction.i will discuss this with the leader service manager.i owned a 1993 lumina and experienced the brake pedal "going to the floor board" which very nearly caused me to have two major accidents.the dealership kept assuring me that my car brakes worked as good as all the new cars. With the help of the st. Louis better business bureau and a brake test off of oil change ramps, the bbb report convinced gm to buy back my 1993lumina.i feel that the only way to communicate with the nhtsa is by reviewing the mechanics of the brake system, brake fluid flow and test procedures.please contact me for further information.how many owners have had similiar problems.

My brakes pulsate when applying.i'm having brake failure much to soon for my driving and past experience with new cars.the dealer is saying that the rotors are warped and that it's not covered under warranty.however, i brake very little, since most of my 86 mi. Daily commute is intersate; i am extremely easy on a brake when braking; i've never slammed the brake; past experience with many new cars has never resulted in warped brakes, in fact, my 1992 lumina euro had 60k before front pads were needed and 90k before rear pads... Rotors were (and are) still okay.lastly, i checked the investigations database and found that the '98 monte carlo has a "degraded braking performance".i wondered if the lumina brakes were the same as the monte?
Consumeris in the process of replacingbrakes forthird time.calipers are rubbing on the tires, and the brake pads are warped.

Noticed that back rotors had deep grooves in them at apx 16,000 mi. Reported to dealer, said it was normal..i've had cars with more that never even had rotors turned down, anyway, they replaced 4 brake pads, said they were gone & turned rotors down, cost me 334.00 i feel it should be covered under warranty, this also happened to a friends car said it was covered under warranty, he told me to check my rotors, thats when i noticed the deep grooves. He has same style car (montecarlo, apx same mileage)the dealer said this is normal!!!!!!!!!! i don't think so. Got no where with gm they'll say & believe what diamond chev tells them.. Like i said, my friends dealer, knight chevy in southbridge ma , said it was under warranty!
When applying thebrakes they did not grab as quickly.he tookvehicle todealership, andmechanic toldconsumer that the leftbrake rotor was cracked with hot spots.consumer was concerned because the mechanic told him that the hot spot on the rotors were normal wear and tear.

I have been having problems with the rear brakes on my 1998 lumina. They would drag and make a metal to metal noise. I took the car into frontier chevrolet 5 times for this problem. As i said, the brakes made a metal to metal noise, the brakes would drag, sometimes even skidding the tires on dry pavement. This happened with light to moderate brake pressure on the petal. The last time i was into frontier chevrolet, the shop forman told me that he was not going to fix it because he didn't see anything wrong. I contacted gm at their customer service hotline on at least two or possibly three occasions. I was told that they couldn't reach the shop forman and they would get back to me. They never did. I live in montana where icy roads are a problem in the winter. With winter wether setting in i gave up on the dealer and took the car into an independent service center to have the brakes fixed. I didn't want to chance the brakes locking up on icy roads and sending me out of control. The independent mechanic soon discovered metal shavinge on the drums and other brake parts. He said the shoes were rubbing on the inside of the drums when the petal was depressed. This caused the shoes to bind inside of the drums, which caused the brakes to drag and possibly lock up. He measured the original shoes and the replacement shoes and found that even with 31,000 miles of rubbing on the inside of the drums, the original shoes were .007 wider than the replacements. My neighbortold me of a pontiac grand am that she owned that had the same problem. She also took the car into the dealer, who could find nothing wrong. An independent mechanic ( in another city), told her that gm had installed the wrong shoes on her car. This leads me to believe that this is a widespread problem for gm. While this didnot cause an accident, it very easily could have if i hadn't had the car fixed at my own expense, even though the parts should have been covered under warranty. I hope you will look into this pro

I was going 55 mph on beltway.i discovered that my brakes were very hard to push and could not stop.pulled off to shoulder andcould not pick up any aceleration.i had the car taken immediately to dealer for check-up.the dealer (fox)advised that the brake booster hose from the master brake cylinder became loose and was "crimped" near the hood and fire wall.this resulted in the flow of vacuum pressure being compromised and stopping.the dealer advised that the brake booster hose had to be "repositioned."this corrected both problems of failed braking and lack of accelleration.the dealer would not or could not fully explain if this was a manufacturing problem or was a result of human error when work is performed on the car.the dealer would not replace the "crimped" booster hose.lost of brakes when going highway speeds was quite upsetting.i thought i would pass this complaint on for you review and any action you deem fit.if this is a safty problem, perhaps a tech bulletin or warning should be issued by chev. Thank you. Please feel free to contact me for any other information required on your part.

I own a 1998 chevrolet lumina, which i purchased new in 1998. I had noticed a sporadic steering wheel kick-back at low speeds when turning left in this vehicle. I told a friend about my situation (he too owns same year, make, model) and he explained he received a recall letter from chevrolet and had this problem corrected on his vehicle.i called my local chevolet dealer and the service advised scheduled me an appointment to repair, but then called me back and cancelled appointment and explained to me that my vin number was not included in the recall. I called chevrolet assistance and they advised me to pay for repairs out of my pocket because my car was out of warranty.i feel this is unacceptable and discriminatory.obviously chevrolet is trying to reduce their costs by denying my claim for this campaign.i have seen quite a few other chevrolet owners with the same complaint.when is the nhtsa going to step in show the imbeciles at chevrolet that this steering problem has a broader scope than they are willing to admit too.

The fluid was correct and the belt is about 8 months old.for the recall #03v527000 in 2003 i did go to the chevrolet dealer in ft. Myers and they checked the vehicle and told me that the car was ok.

All four doors freeze in the winter. The car came with an automatic starter and when its cold in the winter all doors are stuck. I will set the heat on the max and start the car through the auto starter and let it loosen for about 20 minutes. You still have to get all the ice of around the whole door and eventually one will open after you keep pulling on it. Then you must go inside and push and kick the dorrs from the inside to get the others to open. This is a hassle having 2 toddlers and a son trying to get to school in the morning. Wondering if there was a recall on this defect as i looked trough consumer affairs and also other complaints are listed as the same. Thanks for any info.

I was forced to drive this company vehicle by new transportation manager, even though i had another company vehicle assigned to me to drive.from 11/9/2018 to 11/13/2018 i worked overtime plus my regular week of work.it was the first time using the heater in this vehicle and i was working long hours with the heater on because the weather had changed.on 11/11/2018 at about 0600, i started having a headache and my throat was irritated but i went home at 0800 and came back to work overtime plus my regular shift on the same day at 2000.my headache had intensified and i took aleve for it and drank milk for my irritated throat and wen home at the end of my shift at 0800 on 11/13/2018.i worked the rest of the week but my headaches continued and on 11/19/2018, i asked the mechanic to smell the cabin of my vehicle and after smelling it,he told me to park it and report it to my manager because it had an exhaust leak.on 11/26/2018, i went to the hospital and the doctor placed me on modified duty unless i was not provided a different vehicle to drive and then i would considered temporarily fully disabled until 12/14/2018. On 11/28/2018, my manager told me i was going to be driving the dirty vehicle after i had asked for another vehicle.i had my supervisor smell the cabin and he gave me his truck to drive and i drove it for 2 days.on 11/30/2018, my supervisor told me that our manager had cleared the dirty vehicle and i had to go back to driving it but i went home fully disabled instead.on 12/4/2018, i was forced back into work and i drove my managers truck.on 12/5/2018, i drove the dirty vehicle to the fire station and it tested positive for an exhaust leak with carbon monoxide in the cabin.i had my 2 days off and on 11/8 and 11/9/2018, i have been staying at the office because they're forcing me to drive the dirty vehicle again and i can't go out to work.
Engine check light kept coming on. Took vehicle to dealer 12 times, and replaced one fuel injector. Did not remedy problem.dealer then replaced all fuel injectors.dealer also replaced fuel pump, fuel filter, and fuel tank, possible engine problem.
