Cylinder head cracked.

Timing belt failed.

Frontengine mountssheared off, causing the engine to drop and steering column to snap, resulting inloss ofcontrol.please give any further details.

Exhaust valves are sticking, causing the timing belt to slip. We have replaced the belt and the problem immediately recurred. Gm has been aware of the problem for years, but has been fairly quiet about resolving it. They produced a number of 3.4 engines without chrome plated exhaust valves, and the softer valves distorting and stick, causing the engine to jump timing. This is a sophisticated dual overhead cam v-6 and tolerances are critical. Gm issued a directive to replace the cylinder heads on the affected engines, however ours was not included in the recall, even though it was built in the plant that produced the engines and is in line with the sequence of id numbers. General motors is disavowing the problem, even though it is a known defect. They have replaced a number of cylinder heads and exhaust valves, and i believe they should acknowlege their error in our car and repair our engine. Because of the soft exhaust valves, there is no alternative but to make major repairs, all due to improper manufacturing.

The vehicle lunges forward at standstill and/or shifting, along with numerous other problems.

Engine oil leak.

Engine checklight comes on & off.whentakingfoot off the gas pedal when coasting or making a turn, car shuts off.

Shifter bumped while tuning radio-car shifted into neutral at 70 mph. Several incidents.

Transmission slips, does not lock in overdrive.

I would like to say i know of other owners of the chevorlet/lumina make and model that has had similar problems.it is my concern as a buyer when safety is of concern.if it were not for the information provided to me by credible resources i would not be doing this.safety is a factor.the transmission problem is that 1st gear slips.you have to put it in neutral and then into drive when you stop to get first gear to deploy.currently my vehicle is in a dealership at this moment and hope that they will work with me on this.if there is additional resources that i can retrieve...can you please send me the information?i...as a consumer...would like to be compensated for this safety defects.

On various occasions (not all the time), upon coming to a stop (i.e., waiting at traffic and or waiting for traffic light to turn green) the transmission will not, again respond to "d" position, even upon pressing the gas pedal (it just revs up).then suddenly, the transmission will engage to the "d" position thus enabling the car to move in a very quickand or snap motion.i believe this could result in an accident situation, especially if there is a car in front of me.some time ago, i had this problem checked out by a car repair shop and the attendent indicated that this was normal.i strongly believe this situation is not normal and may require further review.i will greatly appreciate any assistance you can provide.

When driving sometimes the transmission would lock up .tt

The shoulder belt retractors on the driver and passenger side of the car have failed. Chevrolet has refused to help fix them, as they say their belts are only good for 36,000 miles, but they are required by law. I have replaced the passenger belt at an out of pocket cost of $160. These belts were subjected to normal use and wear, and i feel the retractor is defective. The belts are useless without a retractor as they hang limp during driving. The failure occured gradually over about 2 weeks and then the retractor stopped working all together. I cannot understand how a law required safety device can be made so badly that chevrolet only guarantees it for 36,000 miles or 3 years. A car lasts a lot longer than 3 years, and its seat belts should also. I have contacted chevrolet and i have a file #990294288 for this case with them. They refused to help in any way. They simply gave me a run around and then said we will not help. I do not want to have to pay another $160 to replace the driver side belt. I was lucky in that my belts failed when i was just getting in the car, but what if it had been a crash. I do not have air bags and am driving a friend's car until i can get this matter resolved. My car is not safe to drive right now because of the faulty belt retractors. Thank you for time and i hope that you can help me.
