Windshield wipers have failed several intermitant times.first time in 1998 at 70 miles per hour in a rain storm, wipers stopped, took car off cruise then the resumed.several intermitent times afterward.dealer wanted $400 + to "fix" moter.i was sceptical becuase this is not the only gm car i have driven with wiper trouble.last big incident was last fall 1999 when the wipers stopped on the interstate with my pregnant wife and child in car -200 miles from home.i could not get them to resume.checked fuse etc.waited out storm under bridge, proceded to truck stop and bought rain-x to continue journey.when i got to destination i pulled the wiper motor and it checked out fine and the switch-ok.intermitent troubles are hard to get fixed!i took wiper motor apart, cleaned brushes, and noticed some build-up on the communicator disc, and contacts for the parking mechanism.cleaned this with light abrasive -reasembled and have had no problem since, although with the wiper's history i now use rain-x all the time.i am afraid to travel in snow with kids in vehicle.i would like to sell it but with the wiper system troubles, and the cooling system that keeps leaking -new radiator, water pump, and head gasket -mechanics say pink coolant is corrosive.i can't sell it to another, and i can't afford to keep throwing money at this van.thank you.vincent walter.

With under 50,000 miles on our van the engine had to be replaced.we had the dealer was unable to determine what caused the engine to throw a rod.no parts beside a new engine were replaced.

Both ball joints went bad around 30,000 miles,one under warranty,one just after 36.000 miles.the power steering pumpstarted leaking at the pump shaft and made a real mess of the engine compartment before it was replaced. And i didn't reportyet that the intake manifold started leaking oil recently and is under repair right now. This vehicle has needed alot of repairs that a quality product wouldn't havehad.
Due to the design of the gas tank the consumer hit something on the road,causing a hole in the gas tank.consumer feels some type of shield should be installed to protect the gas tank from being punctured or damaged from road debris.

Front passenger door latch has broken twice in same day, garage was not able to make it function from outside the vehicle, only the inside.today the driver's door latch also broke when opening in parking lot and now will only open from inside vehicle, leaving me access only through the side door.the electric wipers and windows have refused on several occasions to operate when raining, making it either impossible to travel in the rain or very dangerous when there was no choice but to continue on.

Passenger's door does not open from the outside due to poor designof the internal door latch which is too short. It will happen againeven if replaced with a new rod/stick.

Automatic transmission failure, erratic operation of the transmission.
Consumer experiencing ongoing problem with transmissiom; transmssion would jump out of gaer while driving, and intermittently whenever vehicle would come to a stop. Consumer would have to take vehicle out of gear and then put back into gear before taking off. Dealer notified and reduced repair bill for repair.

A private mechanic examined vehicle and determined that transmission oil cooler line was loose and separated from coupler.consumer contacted manufacturer, and was told this vehicle was not affected by recall 96v015001.

I have a 1995 chevy lumina van and the steel frame under the drivers seat keeps breaking. I welded the first seat 3 times until it was so bad i had top buy another one. The second seat i got was the same and i am about to weld it a second time also. I know of another person with a 1992 lumina van who had the same problem. I can't believe it hasn't been recalled yet. Manually operated driver's seat mechanism broke twice. The broken part resulted in detaching of the seat from the frame on the right front corner, and caused the seat to rock back ward.the broken parts were welded twice.

The defective design of the headrest, causing the padding in the headrest to move rearward. Consumerfeels the metal part of the headrest which will not protect the occupant in event of an accident, but might cause more injuries to the head.dealer replaced the headrest, but the problem is reoccurring.
1995 chevrolet lumina apv drivers side seat track/frame breaks, causing the back of the seat to recline suddenly. I had a 1994 chevrolet lumina apv which was involved in an accident in febuary of 2001, in which the seat track/frame broke. Mine just broke while i was driving. Luckily i was it at a time when there wasn't much traffic, and i got stopped without anaccident. I have talked to an upholestry shop and a dealer and have been told this is common on these vans.

In rainy conditions or driving over water puddles, the power steering wheels come loose when driving. The water comes on the power steering belt and causes it to slip,resulting in loss of steering controlwhich can cause an accident.*a

Vehicle has a remote sliding door. When the door is opened it closes without the remote being pushed. When the vehicle is on a slight hill it closes. Sometimes when no hill at all, it also closes.the dealer has been notified about the vehicle's door. The dealer repalced the motor on the door. After the replacement of the motor, the door still closes on it's own. Child was closed up in the door while on a hill. (she was pressed between the door and where the vehicle and the door meets.

When i bought my van in may of 2004 i began having problems with my windshield wipers only working sporadically, i thoughti would check into it and see ifmight be a recall regarding my vehicle. When i went online to search i found the exact problem i was having and checked to seeif i was covered, i discovered multiple gm recalls that covered the problem i was having, and online it seemed as though my van qualified. When i phoned a dealer with my vin #, i was told i was not covered under the recall. I believe that my vehicle is experiencing the same problem covered by the recall of thousands of other gm vehicles. Also, i have replaced the wind shield wiper motor and still have the same problem.

Failure of windshield wipers. First they would only work if it wasn't raining (cleaning windshield), now they have stopped all together. This has caused incidence of being stranded and near crashes even on christmas day with my two children and having to get rides to and from work. There is a recall on this for all other 1995 chevrolets but not the apv seems as though since this problem is occurring on this vehicle the recall should be on it also. I could hear the motor trying to work and would sometimes be able to manually push the wipers back and forth to get them working again, but now they are locked up.

The wipers quit working at highway speed in heavy rain and heavy traffic.it was very dangerous, and we were fortunate that no one was injured.when i went to buy the replacement, the dealer's parts guys were very familiar with the problem.they said that if i had a pickup instead of a minivan, the part would be free, as they were made so badly that they were under recall.however, since we had a minivan, they would charge us for the same problem part.the failed part number is 22101636.the new part number is 12463017.failing ckt board number: 22122142 rev. C.replacement ckt board number: 24013536 rev. C.you need to do everything you can to get gm to recall these time-bombs-for-accidents as soon as possible.they are accidents waiting to happen.if you can get me a refund at the same time, that's fine with me.i wrote gm about this several weeks ago, and they have not bothered to respond.i can mail/fax a copy of that letter to you if you like.

I have a 1995 chevrolet lumina apv minivan.i have had windshield wiper problems for years but refused to pay $300-400 to have them repaired because i felt it to be a product defect.now, gm has a massive recall on many models but mine is excluded even though i was told by a few service people over the years that it was a chronic problem in gm minivans.i want them to include my vehicle in the recall. *nlm
The front windshield wipers don't work sporadically.this has happened since january 2000.i have taken it to a small service station, a goodyear station, and heiser chevrolet.none of them can find the problem because it doesn't happen the day they have it.i just want to know the cause so i can get it fixed.it happens during rain, snow, sleet and dry days.it only affects the front wipers.the back wiper works fine even when the front wipers will not work.the front washer fluid also does not work when the wipers do not work.i turn them on and absolutely nothing happens, no attempt to work, no noise, nothing.it's as if i never turned them on.i just keep trying them, and eventually they work as if nothing was ever wrong.this can take anywhere from 5 minutes after i start driving, to the next time i drive the vehicle.i am an accident waiting to happen.i want to know if anyone has experienced this problem, and what the solution is.thank you.
Ref: nhtsa recall no. 97v017000some of these vehicles have a strained or separated windshield washer/wiper switch wire.this can cause the windshield washer/wiper to work intermittently and could ultimately result in inoperative wipers.this has occurred twice during operation of my vehicle while driving on interstate highways and needing the wipers during a sudden rain storm.five minutes later the wipers would be working again.i have contacted both the dealer i bought the new car from, and chevrolet (1-800-222-1020) and neither knew anything about this type of problem. *la
Windshield wipers only work when they want to. On going problem since i bought van. Chevy says no recall was issued and it's not their problem. I have replaced the motor and still have the same problem. I can not drive if it is raining due to wipers may work but they could stop working again at any time. Also wiper fluid does not work when wipers do not work. I can not tell you how many failures due to it happens everytime it rains/snows/sleets. Meaning they may work or may not but if they do work they always stop.

Visibility: windshield wipers, fail to work when you need them to work, damp weather , rainy weather, they are getting worse failing to work when your driving in bad weather, working when they want too!!! this happened right after i purchased the lumina van, new,24 miles on it, took it back to the dealer, they said they couldnt fine anything wrong because they were working then ( the wipers ) 8 years later i still have the same problem.
I purchased the used 1995 chevy minivan in november 1997.exactly 30 days to the date of the sale my wife was driving the minivan on a parkway which had no breakdown lane.she heard a very loud strange noise coming from the vehicle.she got off the parkway at the next exit and pulled to the side of the road.by the time she was able to get to a safe place to park the noise had stopped.she walked around the vehicle looking for anything out of order and saw nothing.she got back in the van and began driving, the noise still had not returned.as she was about to get back on the parkway the right front wheel of the vehicle suddenly flew off of the vehicle.she watched the tire go straight up into the air, "very high" and came down bouncing on the street in front of the van and then going to the side of a road and rolling up an embankment before it stopped.when the tire flew off the van slammed down into the street with great force.the impact of the wheel flying off as well as the van slamming into the street caused the entire side panel of the right front side of the van from the door to the headlight to shatter all over the street.the van was towed to the dealer which is was purchased from 30 days earlier and we were told by the service department that there was a "defect in the lug nuts" which caused the wheel to fly off.each lug nut had made a clean break causing the wheel to fly off.please let us know if you have received any other complaints for this type of incident.
