I was reading information on the following: nhtsa action number : pe95062 nhtsa recall campaign number : n/a make : chevrolet model: lumina apv manufacturer : general motors corp.year : 1994 component : electrical system:wiring my 1994 lumina apv started to smoke in the steering column on 2 occasions. I turned off the ignition key and it stopped. I turned it back forward to the on position without starting the vehicle and it did not smoke then, but when i went ahead and started the van is began to smoke again. Being the only vehicle i own and cant go without it, i carefully removed the 4 screws on the center wheel that holds the airbag, and found that the large yellow plug that conects the airbag was blackened by heat. Have you received any other notifications of this in the past? thank you in advance.

I would like the chance to speak with someone regarding this matter. No safety defect listed.
Vehicle wire harness located underneath dashboard has worn down from normal vehicle movement. Wire harness has no shield or protection, and made contact with body frame. This shorted vehicle electrical system out while attempting to start vehicle, and caused a fire in the fuseable link, ignition and destroyed other assorted wires. Filed a claim with my insurance agency (allstate), and claim was denied because they felt it was a factory defect. Attempted to contact gmc customer assistance center (file claim # 990102910.) the representative stated they would not be able to process a claim or report due to the vehicle being out of warranty and over 36,000 miles. They refused my request for additional consideration soley because the vehicle was out of warranty. This electrical problem may be a serious defect. I bring this to your attention that in the hope you might bring this to the attention to gmc. Either this is a factory flaw or assembly line error. I don't know. However i know that this should not have occurred. Luckly, i was not driving or this vehicle was parked somewhere unattended in my garage. Please help me.thank you!

I had been traveling aproximately 180 miles at a speed of 70 mph when the engine suddenly died for no reason at all. This had happened before a year prior. I took it in to the chevrolet service provider i have been using for all my maintenance. I have to keep a regular approved maintenance schedule. The service people told reported that they ran an engine diagnostic scan. Ck codes. None stored. Test drive for 47 miles. Did not die, miss or act up.i explained to them again that it didn't happen within that mileage and they told they could not do anything about it. I told them that i would pay for everything. I explained to them that they were putting my family in danger. Still no results. I got in touch with the chevroletconsumer complaint office. They gave me a file number(9903 433 48). They said that since it was over 3 years old and 36,000 miles there was nothing they could do. When the episode occurred i was in the middle lane of an eight lane highway. I was within 20 feet of being ran over by a semi-truck before i made it to the side of the road. I don't know what to do. Please help with any information possible. Thank you chester rainwaters.
Front row shoulder belts get twisted in clasp and will not retract; also, rear hatch door does not lock properly due being installed improperly/intermittent stalling.
Spare wheel is suspended below car by a small cable.this cable fractured at the joint with the block which clamps the wheel.there is no locking mechanism for the wheel.this failure could have occurred on the highway, the wheel would have dropped to the pavement and would have caused grave danger to any following motorist.
While driving about 45 mph vehicle suddenly went down infront, up in the back. Consumerpulled over,and sawcable that heldspare tire in place had snapped. Spare tire turned up sideways, and jacked vehicle up in back.

Front seat passenger's door latch keeps breaking,this is the third incident.there are indications of prohibiting occupants from exiting the vehicle.
Door will not open from the outside or inside. First occurrence was with the driver's door and repairs were made at owner's expense. Currently, passenger door has the same problem. Dealer contacted and will remedy problem at owner's expense.

Vehicle came to a abrupt stop. It would not move in any gear. In drive gear, with enough acceration, the car lunged forward and stopped again with loud sound accompanied. Dealer claims transmission failure, new transmission needed. 48000 mi.
When driving the vehicle, it made loud noises and theengine check light came on. Dealer had transmission replaced.

Recall related, 96v015001, power train transmission, never received notication letter, vehicle partiallyburned.
Dt:the contact states transmission still acts like it wants to overheat. The transmission was replaced on jan 5th the lines are leaking.the contactfeels this is related to recall 96v015000.the contacthas never received a recall letter. The vehicle has 202,000 miles on it. Also, the front and middle seat belts are not retracting. The webbing is coming off. This problem is in related to recalls 93v212000 and 94v100000.the contact has notreceived a recall letter concerningthe seat belts. Updated 11/29/2005 - the engine overheated, the intake manifold gasket was replaced.updated 01/11/06. The consumer is still waiting on a response from the manufacturer.updated 05/24/06
Contacted two different dealerships and manufacturers in april of 1996 no parts.on october 19, 1996 the van caught fire because of the defect. Recall 96v01001.

Seat belt: middle row driver side seat belt is broken. Belt buckle will not lock in place,and when it does lock it is difficult to unlock.

The driver's side seat belt does not retract at all times. The passenger's side belt will not retract at all, it is fully extended in the out position. Female part of the buckle was replaced on the driver's side seat belt at 35,000 miles.
Vehicles safety belt has a poor design due to extension play and give causing belt to twist up and being unable to retract.in accident seatbelt will not hold.

The two metal brackets that hold the driver's seat to the frame broke, causing the seat be insecure.dealer states a $500.00 expense to remedy the problem.please give any further details.

The anti-lock brake system failed and the brakes "locked up".consumer collided with a tree.
Whenbrakes are applied to stop, the anti-skid system lock releases and lock upagain. If they only lock once, then they will go out, making it seem that the vehicle has no brakes. To stop, the pedal has to be stood on. Dealer has been contacted.
Brakes seem to give out when coming to a stop sign or traffic light.
When applying the abs brakes in a sudden stop situation, the pedal went to the floor and the brakes failed to stop the vehicle, causing an accident.

Catastrophic sub frame failure.after 16 years of salted ne ohio roads the van's front sub frame collapsed and made the vehicle unsafe to drive.it would jolt from lane to lane while shifting, and had lost most steering control.mechanics replaced over $700 of parts trying to fix the issue until a friend found the real culprit of the clunking and lost steering. Please be very wary of gm products in the rust belt.replacement of sub frame solved all issues procured from initial problem however, and it is fairly inexpensive to have a sub frame shipped up here from arizona especially considering the engines/trans in these vehicles were just about bullet proof and it just didn't make sense to junk such a reliable running vehicle.good vehicle otherwise and the unibody is galvanized, so the rest of the vehicle is sound.

The rod that is on the inside of the door handle broke on the passenger's side door, causing outside door handles not to operate properly,having to get it on the opposite side.currently,the driver's side handles have done the same thing.
When opening the door on the driver's side door handle fell down into the door frame, making it impossible to open the door from the inside or the outside.door handle was replaced by personal mechanicat owner's expense.

Consumer states that the spare tire rack and cable have broken from underneath the vehicle while driving. Dealer and the manufacturer has beennotified . Feel free to provide any further information.

I own a 1994 chevrolet lumina van and the windshield wipers work only when they "feel like it".in speaking to an independent mechanic (not a chevy dealership), he mentioned that this is the same windshield wiper assembly that is on your recall 98v150001, however, this vehical is not listed as part of that recall.upon contacting chevy, they used that same reasoning as not covering replacement.if, in fact, this is the same windshield wiper motor as what's in the other chevrolet models listed in the recall, it would seem to me that replacement of that part would also be covered on the lumina van.
I have a 1994 chevrolet lumina apv.back in 2000 i had the windshield washer motor/assembly replaced because of failure to operate on numerous occasions.in the past two years gm has issued a repair/refund for same motor for all other vehicles with problems but not for the lumina/lumina apv.this was a costly repair and would like to know what gm is going to do about it.i have called gm's customer service and reported/ inquired about this problem at least a dozen times. I know of many lumina owners who have had this problem and repaired them.when is this going to be resolved???
Windshield wipers sometimes work and sometimes don't work. Problem is intermittent. Dealer and manufacturer contacted and cannot duplicate the problem, problem still exists, no warranty, repairs at owners expense.
