2014 chevrolet equinox.consumer writes in regards to airbag non-deployment and seat belt shoulder harness failure during front end collision.gm informed the consumer the air bag performed as designed. Updated 11/15/2017
I hit a deer on sept. 1, 2018 and my airbags didn't deploy.
After shopping and on my way home the chime that sounds when your seatbelt is off started chiming. As i looked at the dash there was a message that stated to service the airbag. I was surprised because in all the years i have been driving i have never received anything like this with the airbag. I drove the vehicle the next day and the message goes on and off constantly along with the chime noise. It's extremely irritating. Should this be a recall issue?
I was involved in a car accident on november 16, 2020 and neither of my airbags deployed.
Vehicle was in motion traveling straight going approximately 50mph when it struck another vehicle that failed to yield the right of way.the equinox suffered extensive front end damage on the drivers side but no airbags deployed.
Was traveling on interstate at approx 15 miles and hour when i was rear ended.the air bags did not deploy however, smoke filled the cab of the vehicle.due to the amount of damage on the vehicle, the vehicle was totaled..
Air bag light comes on. Sometimes it doesn't come on and sometimes it does. It's been doing this for close to 2 years. Passenger seat belt has been sticking often. Sometimes i can barley get it to unclick. This has been happening for about 3 years.
The front passenger seat caught fire sometime between 3 p.m. On 8/10/14 and 8 a.m. On 8/11/14 when the vehicle was unoccupied, parked, and locked. The fire burned a large hole in the seat. Charred debris from the burned seat was found on the front passenger side floor mat. The vehicle was taken to a chevrolet dealer for diagnosis as soon as the burned seat was discovered. The dealer diagnosed the problem as a "seat fire caused by an internal heat source" and offered to replace the front passenger side air bag sensor and seat cushion.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled and jerked without warning, while driving at various speeds. The contact also stated that the vehicle experienced issues with oil consumption and that the vehicle had to be taken to have the oil changed every 1,000 miles. Additionally, the passenger's side air bag warning light was illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact took the vehicle to jack phelan chevrolet, inc (4000 s. Harlem ave, stickney, il 60402) where they diagnosed the vehicle with a defective fuel pump and air bag warning light that needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 25,000.
The contact owns a 2014chevrolet equinox. The contact stated while driving at 20 mph, the contactedhad a glare on the front windshield froman oncoming vehicle headlights which caused the contact to crash into a mailbox and a safety street sign causing the damage to front passenger side of the vehicle and a crack into his oil pan. The contact stated the air bags did not deployed. No warning light illuminated from the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The local dealer and the manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 140,000.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. The contact stated that when a passenger was seated in the front passenger seat, the air bag system failed to function. The front passenger also was seated with a cushion and the light continued to fail to illuminate indicating a passenger was in the seat. The dealer was notified of the failure several times and was unable to provide a specific diagnosis and repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 12,000. Updated 08/17/16*ljthis consumer has since passed away. (7-31-16).it was listed on the report, no further action is required. Updated 08/22/16.
Air bag warning chime came on and told me to get service done. Took it in to dealer said it could be anything they are looking into problem.told me its notcovered under warranty, after lookinginto this , g.m. Has had this problem for quite awhile. I was driving at the time on a highway, maybe its time to get the news media involved, to get results !!!!!
I looked away from my driving for perhaps 2 seconds, when my car drifted to the edge of the road-- it was raining and the grass was very slick and pulled me on into the ditch. While trying to get out of my slide, i hit a road sign with my front bumper. Immediately, i was told "airbag deployed"... However, it did not deploy.i could smell something, like electrical burning, but the airbags stayed inside their compartment, or whatever.
Takata, service light has come on tht passengers airbag needs service.
Air bag service light came on my 2014 chevrolet equinox with only 23,000 miles on in
In my 2014 chevrolet equinox, noontime, sunday, sitting at red light pointed west, three lane road, waiting to cross 7 lane road, got the green light, proceeded forward up to maybe 10mph and got to about 2nd lane of 7 to cross intersection, then wham, i am hit in the intersection, left side just in front of front wheel, by car that ran red light at full speed going north, basically took front of my car off, spun me 1 3/4 times to now face south, the air bags did not deploy, my body left side head, shoulder and hip hit the left side interior even though my seat beat was on (was dazed and had help getting belt off) and received concussion, neck injury, hearing difficulty, accelerated memory loss issues, damaged shoulder, hip troubles, bouts of unexplained outbursts from little anxiety stimulus, heightened startle response, nightmares, andsevere trouble controlling anxiety that were all not present prior to the crash. The car was totaled immediately by the insurance company, and even though witnesses saw that i had the green and that the car that hit me at a 90 degree and estimated to be doing 35-50mph while running the red light, the attorney was unable to block the quick disappear of the vehicle and the police investigators crash site notes and report was very incomplete and wrongly documented the accident. My concern is that i have lingering pains, hip trouble, still low pain left side head, neck tensions, new memory issues, severe anxiety attacks that cause over 220 bp and panic breathing issues, and new struggles with mobility i did not have before the crash, and that with horrific impact that spun me nearly 2 times around, took the front of car, declared total loss -- why did none of air bags go off in this 2014 chevrolet equinox this accident crash june 24, 2018 ??? attached 5 pics my vehicle next day +crash sketch +florida dhsmv crash report me&my car. J.f.a.
Front crankshaft seal has a leak that sprays onto serpentine belt causing belt failure and major oil leak. The seal has been replaced and the problem is occurring again. I have gone through 5 belts in less than a year and too much oil to track. Also unknown airbag and stabilitrac warning lights are on and cause cannot be identified.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. While driving 40-45 mph in inclement weather, the vehicle crashed into a pole. The air bags failed to deploy during the crash. A half mile from the crash site, the side curtain air bags and driver's seat air bag inadvertently deployed. A police report was filed and there were no injuries. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 24,000.
Was involved in accident 9/8/2016. It was a total loss. Front end heavily damaged. Airbags did not work or the passenger side seatbelt. Driving straight at intersection and other party ran red light striking the left front and causing frame to crack.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. The contact stated that the air bag warning light flickered. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the air bag failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 40,000.

The contact sustained chest, right knee, shoulder and spine injuries that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
My car was broadsided by a truck that did not stop at a red light.the truck struck my car in the driver's door.the side air bag did not deploy and therfore the driver was injured unecssarily.
Hit a bear in a 2 lane rural roadway between 30-40 mph after braking hard. Airbags fired but none ever came out. Could smell the burning charge. Service airbag lights came on along with interior lights and hazard lights.
While driving 55 mph on flat 2 lane rural highway hit a large coyote or wolf the air bag fired but did not deploy seat belts cinched up, interior lights came on, emergency flasher came on and onstar came on line and advised of a air bag deployment and asked if i was ok.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. While driving at various speeds, the vehicle would suddenly shut off. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the battery was faulty. The battery was replaced, but the failure continued to occur. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who indicated that the failure was due to a faulty on-star system. The on-star system was repaired, but the failure continued. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 4,000.
Was driving home from work in a terrible rain storm and the wipers just quit working while i was driving home from work.this happened less than a block from pulling out of the driveway from the work parking lot.very scary incident. Had to replace the entire motor for the windshield.it appears that the 2013 models had a recall; whereas, the 2014 models have not had a recall.the 2014 models use the same parts as the 2013 models.not sure why there is no recall on the 2014 model. Cost to replace was ~$400+.
While driving check engine light, traction control, and stabilatrak all came on. I pulled over and shut it off. A few minutes later restarted with check engine light staying on. Before i made it to work 1 mile down the road the car shut off. No power at all!!! this was on a city street going about 40 mph. My car went down to 15mph within seconds. Very dangerous!this was the 5th time! the dealer replaced body control panel and this problem continues! the dealer still has it and has no real answers!
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. While driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle stalled after the reduce engine power warning light illuminated. The vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the ecm fuse was blown and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 4,500.updated 1/13/15updated 01/15/15
Several times recently, while driving, a warning bell sounds yet there is no light on the dash to tell me what is wrong. I checked the manual, nothing. It sounds like the ding you hear when your seatbelt isn't fastened. I thought perhaps i hadn't properly fastened my seatbelt, that wasn't it. So if my car thinks my seatbelt isn't fastened, then if i have collision would it think i was driving and protect me with my airbag.- or not?
The key becomes very hot in the ignition switch, after driving a while. When, the key is removed it is hot to the touch.
Battery leakage causing excessive corrosion to battery cables. Daughter did not realize voltage loss until vehicle would not crank.possible issue with cables vibrating while driving and thus causing the battery to leak acid where cables attached.

I own a 2014 equinox it has 103,000. The code was for a position actuator sensor ( timing variable solenoid). I replaced it, simple fix. Engine light still on.within the next couple months i realize my vehicle idles on the lower side.my vehicle almost stalled out while in a drive thru one day. Once you put some gas to it seems ok. Problem goes away for a while. Then finally one day i go to leave work and my stabilitrak message pops up and takes many times to start. My lights act weird. Car get stuck turning over and went to limp mode. I finally get it to come out of this somehow and make my long commute home, but i can tell the power in my car is lacking.no messages just a engine light with the same codes. Next day my car starts fine and like nothing is wrong. Car stalls out 3 times while driving out of a parking lot. Barely get it home. Then acts like nothing happens. Stalls out while in mcdonald drive thru with my kids. Will not start, had to push it to a parking spot. After 20 minutes i get it to start, but i have no rpms and it feels like the electrical system in my car is not running properly. I make it to my moms, which is very close to mcdonald. Park it, pick it up that night. Starts up like nothing is wrong. I decide to take it to a mechanic. First visit was a $33 part that cost me $400 worth of labor. They diagnosed my car with their computer, none of my sensors are bad. Engine light states other wise. Car does all the symptoms again along with loud engine noise. Turns out my timing chain is bad (1,614 repair). 24 hrs later. Won't start for me, finally get it on. Engine light on, idle issues so on. As of 2 days after that. Engine light goes off like nothing happened. Mechanic stated i had no damage to motor and all looks good. I believe there is a electrical issues and timing chain issues with this 2.4l engine.a safety hazard and need recalled.
I put my phone charger to charge and a fire ignited i quickly pull the plug out. It is the 6 charge i have damaged. And the ignition key at time get over heated. Anything that get plugged into the usb also eventually get over heated. My phone get mess up from it. Help please. Thanks
The stabili track is messed up. When u give it gas it just boggs the stabili track lighycheck engine light and traction control light came on.this all happen driving down the highway at high speed which made the car just about uncontrollable. Needs to be addressed.it has been on other models
May 2016, had issue with my 2014 equinox involving the accelerometer pedal & sensor due to faulty wiring. My vehicle was just less than 2 years old with 62k miles at the time. We were driving down the highway, when the malfunction occurred and sent the vehicle into reduced engine power mode. When this happened the vehicle started to quickly lose speed down as it happened just prior to going up a hill. Had to try and get vehicle off to shoulder of highway, acceleration pedal was completely inoperable during this time.call was placed to gm regarding this issue and my concerns that it could have lead to a crash, injury or worse.gm had no interest in covering this problem under any warranty and did not seem concerned at all with the issue or my concerns that the problem could have lead to a crash, injury or worse. In the end i was left with a $475 repair charge to replace an $80 part by the gm dealership.
2 days after purchase, heard a strange noise in car but unsure where it came from. Returned to dealer, problem couldn't be duplicated. I hear a strange thumping/beating sound periodically; heat exits vents while fan is off; several electrical? incidents, including; heater fan went off while driving on 29 degree winter day. It went back 1/2 hour later. (a few days prior, sounded like fan was losing power); digital speedometer on driver information center went off/blank for a minute while driving; phone charger (lighter & usb) outlet blew 2 fuses after using outlet for a few months with same charger & phone. Inconsistent depends which phone is being charged & charger used; ignition key got very hot after 45 min drive; dashboard lights (instrument cluster?) go dim when driving under a dark viaduct or tunnel, shouldn't they get brighter? manual doesn't explain how dic & instrument panel lights should operate.); interior dome lights went on 2x on their own; infotainment system screen has a delay. Does not consistently display current song title & artist that is playing; digital temperature not consistently displayed on infotainment screen (new problem); oil life not reset after 1st oil change (caused confusion as to when to do next oil change.); excessive water exiting tail pipe (told is normal). Service center where car was purchased checked car out on 4 different dates.no repairs done (except resetting oil life & replacing 2 fuses on charger), problems couldn't be duplicated. Went to another chevy service center, noted on paperwork "no problems found at this time", no other explanation given. Afterwards, i chatted with a rep @ chevy.com, who filed a case & was told a service mgr will call in few days. It's been a few days, no call yet. I have 8200 miles & continue to feel unsafe, especially when driving with my 4 grandsons. They are reason i bought a new car!
This car cuts off while driving without warning!
My 14 equinox attempted to start on it's own while vehicle off but key in ignition.i was waiting for a friend to come out of store vehicle was off and stationary.solenoids nd modules keep needing replaced
Car runs fine and parked in garage overnight. Wale up in morning to go about my business, car won't start - produces the infamous clicking sound. Battery tested good and so did the alternator; had them both checked where i bought the battery. (picture attached of alternator test). Now, my wife is afraid of getting stranded somewhere - and isn't comfortable driving the car.
Bad oil consumption and oil warning light does not come on. While driving with my kids the suv started to idle very rough and would just shut off once i got into slower traffic. After the 4th time in less then 2 miles of traffic the check engine light came on and i took it to a mechanic. I was told that the code that was displayed was for the vvt solenoid and so i had it replaced along with an oil change. The mechanic said that oil can effect the vvt solenoid so i should change the oil frequently for the next year. Each time i did an oil change i started noticing that less oil was draining out then what was put in. After the year i went back to full synthetic oil changes at 6000 miles apart but then had the same issue with the vehicle driving rough and making weird noises 8 months later. Along with missing oil on the change between. Not long after this my wife was driving in boston traffic when the vehicle stalled several times and was nearly hit before she could get to a safe place where i was able to tow it back home. The check engine light was on and gave the same code for the vvt. I replaced this for a second time and while replacing i noticed that the engine oil was extremely low (less then a quart came out). I took it to a mechanic for further testing and he said that at no point during his test period did the oil pressure light ever illuminate. I have been adding almost 2 quarts every 5-8 hundred miles just to keep up with it. I found several other equinox owners with the same issue so i called the local chevy center and was told that there are a few complaints that they see from equinox owners with the 2.4l engines burning oil however, there is nothing they can do and that it is not covered under warranty. I mentioned the service bulletins that i found about these issues and he just said that they don't mean anything and that there are no recalls.
Bought the car in dec 2018. Just got the oil changed and mechanic said the seals were leaking really bad. Oil was all underneath my car. Also my drivers side brake light kept going out and melting the wiring. Then my power seats stopped working. Bottom line is i was driving down the interstate with my grandkids and my air went out battery light came on and all other lights abs, etc. I could hardly steer the car off the road.
On 275 in tampa going 75 mph suddenly the dash reads loss of power as you feel the car drastically slow to a crawl , me shouting to my stunned husband "pull over pull over" thank god we were in the left lane as that's where the breakdown lane was. We pulled over the car coasted and died. We barely missed getting rear ended by a semi. After two days the repair was done and stated as "ecm shorted" found ecm shorted internally off pin 73 1 shorted out under hood fuse block..this is a 2014 chevy equinox with17k miles.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. While driving in reverse at approximately 5 mph, the instrument cluster information center illuminated intermittently. The manufacturer issued a customer satisfaction program where the radio was replaced; however, the failure persisted. The failure recurred sporadically seventy times within a year. The vehicle was taken to the dealer numerous times, but was unable to locate the cause of the failure. In addition, the rear windshield exhibited a permanent film on the inner glass surface and, when exposed to direct sunlight, it distorted the contact's visibility. On separate occasions, when the brake pedal was depressed, the vehicle unintentionally accelerated. The dealer was unable to locate the cause of the failures. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 12. The vin was unavailable.
I have replaced the battery. Car runs good but every few weeks the car will not start even after i have been driving it daily. Something draws on the battery. Always afraid to go somewhere and it will all of a sudden not start. Everything else on car checks out. There is something wrong with it electrically drawing. I see many people have the same problem
I purchased a new replacement battery from chevrolet in november 2018.on may 21. 2019, with only 3,670 miles on the new battery, the car would not start.the car was towed to the dealer, and was charged.the dealer explained that if i do not drive the car 30 miles a day, the battery will not maintain a charge after three or four days.for the last two years, i have driven this vehicle less than 30 miles a day and never had this problem.the dealer suggested that i buy a battery tender for the car but i have no access to a 110 volt plug.in december 2019, i am going to texas and my car will be parked at the airport for five days and i am afraid that the battery will be dead when i return.i searched the internet and saw that this is a problem amongst 2014 equinox owners.general motors confirmed that this is an issue.general motors should inform owners of this issue and recommend a solution.
When going in reverse, or coming off a red light or stop sign, the vehicle will suddenly stall out. While it starts up right away, this is a safety issue, especially if you have to get out of the way. My vehicle has done this about 4-6 times over the past year. Chevy says there is nothing wrong, and there are no warning lights on the vehicle. All the electrical components work, however the vehicle just turns off.
My husband and i bought brand new 2014 chevrolet equinox. Thinking that this would be an investment as a reliable and safe family car, it has been nothing but a headache. It currently has less than 60kmiles and it has engine failure problems and isn't drive-able... The engine unexpectedlylost power while my husband was driving down the 91 freeway from irvine to riverside around 70 mph. The engine literally slowed to about 10-15 mph. My husband is a decorated marine corps war veteran who has survive three tours in afghanistan, who would have thought that a humdrum commute to work almost cost him his life.and now the check engine light is on and i am too afraid to drive it. This life threatening situation is only the most significant sometimes the car get stuck in back up cam mode orthe radio shut offrandomly and refuses to come back on.if i am going up a hill or a mountain the car won't go over 40 mph, and i can't trade it in cause i owe more than what the car is worth.
2014 chevrolet equinox. Consumer states the ignition lock is heating up to unsafe levels.*klthe consumer stated while driving an hour or more, with the headlights, air, or heater on, the key would be very hot when it was removed from the ignition switch.
Engine light came on followed by small lurching evrytime vehicle came to a stop.lurching progressed to large movement.car to mechanic computer indicated a sensor issue. Had this replaced. 1 week later everything repeated mechanic changes other sensor.car fine for 2 months although engine light continues to turn off and on, computer continues to say sensor.engine light goes off again immediately followed by significant return to lurching and then car stalls out . New terrible engine noise.waiting for mechanic to have availability
When turning the steering wheel left or right at low speed or stopped, groaning or rubbing noise is emitted from front tires. Car is 1 month old, has approx. 5000 miles on it now and problem still continues after 2 attempts for dealer to repair it.during fill ups, the gas pump would click/stop and fuel would splash back out of tank and down side of car. This happened whether you set the automatic fill up switch on the fuel pump, or if manually filling the car myself. 2 complaints later, the whole gas tank had to be replaced. 2 days in a row, on 2 separate occasions, the smell of burning plastic and/or electrical wires has been noticed inside vehicle, and is more defined when outside of vehicle and smelling engine area.
Car shut off 3 times while idling at a stop light. It appears this is a known issue based on a quick internet search so it seems absurd there wouldn't be an open recall to fix it
The vehicle will stall whenever stopped at a red light or stop sign and in drive. Have to put it in neutral to keep rpm at normal level, otherwise it will go down to 500 rpm or shut off. Vehicle rattles and shakes when driving. Cleaned the throttle body, replaced o2 sensor, had the engine rebuilt 6 months ago because of a recall. This is highly unsafe, unreliable and absolutely not ok for a car with 87,000 miles. There needs to be a recall because it is obvious from reading through different forums on the internet that a lot of other people have the same exact issue at different mileages.
As i was driving my engine just quit working and my emergency light were nit functioning. I took it to the mechanic and was advised it could be my fuel pump. They mention this specific type of cars are know for these issue. Fuel pump fails causing the vehicle to just stop in the middle of the road.
2014 chevy equinox will stall when accelerating. This happens at anytime while driving you go to accelerate and the car turns off, this could potentially cause an accident. I have taken my vehicle in numerous times and spent over 2k on repairs. Currently my vehicle does not have a check engine light on, no codes. It appears that everything is operating normally. It is not, i will not let my daughter drive this car because i am worried that she could be involved in an accident. I recently found that gm had identified that this vehicle consumes a large amount of oil and it causing issues similar to what i am reporting. Only issue is they are requiring a oil consumption test requiring multiple visits to the dealership over an extended period of time. Which i have done and they still say its not their problem. In the mean time i am going to continue to stall pulling into traffic, putting my life and others life at risk. There needs to be a mandatory recall and correct this issue. My last two oil changes i had less than 2.5 quarts left. There is no leak on my vehicle, and i change my oil about every 5k miles per manufacturer suggestions.
Air stopped blowing out of defroster vents only blowing out of front vents and floor. Could not control this by switches. Possible safety issue had defroster been needed while driving. Out of warranty, happened at approximenty 66000 miles.was told actuator failed.
This is the 4th incident. While driving a warning "service power steering" and "service stability track". Engine reduced power to below 25mph while on an interstate. After pulling over and turning off the vehicle it would not restart. Had it towed home. It restarted a few hours later with no codes even though i did nothing to fix it.
Collision alert system flashes red and the equinox brakes on it on . It seem that the system taps the brakes and then releases . This has happened three times .
The vehicle burns oil at a very fast pace, the vehicle also goes into power reduced morning with a vehicle can only go to 20 mph, when cutting the vehicle off it hesitates to turn off and shakes wants the engine fully shut down.
A few times i have noticed that when i turn the suv off, the ignition switch and the metal part of the keyare very hot.is this problem similar to other recalls?
I was driving my 2014 chevrolet equinox, purchased approximately 2 1/2 months ago brand new (now with approximately 2500 miles).as i was driving down a very busy road at 50-55 mph, several warning lights came on - abs, stabilitrak warning, service engine - and the car began to lose power.luckily, i was able to get the car off the road.eventually, the lights went off and the car began to drive "normal".however, had this occurred on the interstate or if i hadn't been able to pull off the road, i feel the situation could have been much worse.
First two days of having vehicle with 36k miles and i'm at a red light and the the car just shuts off. All the light were on and the gas needle never moved. I had to cut car off and then turn it back on. At this point it would continue to shut of if i had to come to a complete stop. I googled my issue and was able to get home safely by putting car in neutral every time i had to stop. A chip was replaced. Now i'm almost at 75k miles and the stabilitrak and check engine light comes on simultaneously and sometimes with a loss of power. This has happened to me 5 times in one week. Took to chevy dealer and they have no clue. Waited four hours for them to tell me that they cannot duplicate the problem and all lights are off and to drive until something happens. This occurs if i'm turning or backing out of a parking space. Sometimes even after waiting 15 seconds to restart car, it has trouble turning over. I let sit for another 15 seconds and it's fine with no problems but the check engine remains on but will be off in the morning. Losing power on a congested 6 lane highway would not be good business for chevrolet.

The the service traction control service stabilitrak lights with the engine light came on and i lost engine power and was "reduced power." this was while driving slowly getting up to speed. Happened again a few days later when going about 40 mph and i could not go any faster, i had to pull over and stop driving. Parked the car for 3 hours then it was fine. Still not clear as to what caused this. Engine light is still on.
Driving down highway and reduced engine power light comes on, electric stability control comes on check engine light. Car slows from 70mph to 20mph.starts smelling very hot.
Front crankshaft seal has a leak that sprays onto serpentine belt causing belt failure and major oil leak. The seal has been replaced and the problem is occurring again. I turned my vehicle off to get gas and when i started my vehicle back up, the heating, air conditioning, defrost, radio controls and the center instrument panel lights had all become inoperative. Everything stayed inoperative for 2 days. On the third day, i was getting ready to leave and started my vehicle up but then realized i forgot something and turned my car off. I returned to my vehicle to restart it but the vehicle would not start. The center instrument panel lights and radio controls suddenly returned working but everything else that had been inoperative (the defrost, a/c and heating), stayed inoperative and my vehicle now showed the message "service power steering" under the gas gauge.i attempted to start the vehicle a day later but nothing had changed and it would not start. The vehicle was stationary when anything had become inoperative on the vehicle.
My vehilcle just shut off while i was stopped at a red light and it does it on a constant basis like when im backing up or low acceleration. I got a diagnostics done and i got error code p0011 and p0010 which is intake camshaft positioning timing is over advanced. Ive only owned this car since march 2017 and it is oct. 2017 and ive had the issue for about 2 weeks. I dont understand why this issie occured but i would like to know if this is a recurring issue for this vehicle.
Purchased my pre-driven suv 88 days ago. After pumping gas, i attempted to start my car & it wouldn't start. I turned off the radio, tried again because it was cold out it started but simultaneously the 'check engine light' canmr on.while idling at a traffic light less than a min later, it cut-off again! another car was right behind me. I turned on my flashers & started up again.when attempting to pulling out of the parking lot at my next stop, it cut-off again! i restarted my car, kept my flashers on and prayed while driving down the street trying to arrive home to beat the expected 'icestorm' i called the service dept but they were closed but would call back. The next morning i had my car towed back to the dealer - 13 miles away.the service dept. Has hadhad my car for more than 2 days & couldn't identify the problem. They eventually said the error code was p0010. The part needed was:cam shaft position acuator.the extended warranty that the dealer suggested & i paid for, refused to cover parts, labor or rental reimbursement even after arguing with the service mgr. Judging by the comments/complaints this is a serious problem with the equinox, i'm not the only one. I am a widow, on disability & need a reliable vehicle but this defect has placed me in a very serious situation.i could have been rear-ended or much worse seriously injured. This is dangerous! this needs to be recalled and remedied once-and-for-all. I had no prior knowledge or i wouldn't have purchased this car! ( i was asked to verify the type of gas - regular unleaded not diesel & i have my receipt of purchase.)
Stabilitrak light, power steering light come on and all the gauges start to go up and downwhile driving on highway.
Stability service track light on and power steering goes off and on out of no where
On 275 in tampa going 75 mph suddenly the dash reads loss of power as you feel the car drastically slow to a crawl , me shouting to my stunned husband "pull over pull over" thank god we were in the left lane as that's where the breakdown lane was. We pulled over the car coasted and died. We barely missed getting rear ended by a semi. After two days the repair was done and stated as "ecm shorted" found ecm shorted internally off pin 73 1 shorted out under hood fuse block..this is a 2014 chevy equinox with17k miles.
Spudders multiple times when trying to go then dies as soon as i give it gas. Dies multiple times a day but turns right back on. Died trying to cross a highway. Very dangerous.
Excessive oil consumption. Car runs out of oil before oil change is due.
While driving down a rural road in cold temps my engine started to leak oil after hearing a pop and causing my engine to leak all the oil out of it
Bought the car in dec 2018.

The car stutters and cuts off while driving, this is unexpected and happens often.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. Also, the instrument cluster indicators were flashing and the check engine, seat belt, and tire system indicators were illuminated. Furthermore, the vehicle made an abnormal clicking noise while attempting to start. The vehicle was towed to scranton chevrolet of norwich (774 w thames st, norwich, ct 06360) where it was diagnosed that the negative terminal wire needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and referred the contact to nhtsa. The failure mileage was approximately 63,000.
Takata recall.engine light is on says its the flex fuel sensor recalls on 2013 models so i believe its an on going problem and believe it still needs to be recalled it also has a rough idle when first started dk if thats caused by the flex fuel but the remote start wont work with engine light on
Excessive oil consumption between oil changes and no warning signal of low oil burns 1 quart of oil every 2 weeks
I keep putting oil in my car like it's gas. I'm using 1 quart for every fill up. Which is a lot and it's a known problem with this vehicle and should be recalled.
While driving on the highway, the rear engine seal blew out and within a few minutes (unknowingly my engine drained completely of oil) and by the time i was able to get over 2 lanes the damage had been done snapping connecting rod and damaging an entire cylinder.there was no warning of this issue and i fear that if my wife had been driving with my two children under 4 that it could have been a huge safety concern.i was able to recognize the slight noise at first that progressively got louder, but could see my wife ignoring it long enough to cause an issue.this is extremely scary to me and at 111k this should not happen.gm offered financial assistance for the repair at less than a 1/3 of the cost and could not get any explanation why it is different from bulletin 14882 that describes the exact issue that my car had.
2014 model year chevy equinox.my car was produced in 9-2013, and has had continuous high oil consumption since purchase.every few weeks it is making a loud noise after start up, and i am having to add oil (3 qts yesterday of the 5w-30 dexron oil as listed on the cap).
While driving at ordinary highway speeds during cold weather operations my 2014 chevrolet equinox with a 2.4l ecotec engine experienced a rear main seal failure. The failure caused a majority of the engine oil to be pushed out through the rear main seal destroying the engine. This failure was consistent with the service bulletin no. 14882 (see attached), a plugged pcv orifice. Icing of the pcv orifice is a known issue that chevrolet has failed to address.i called chevrolet and requested them to cover the cost of repairing the engine with the design defect but they refused to extend the special coverage of 10 years or 120,000 miles. This problem occurs under normal operating conditions but the design defect has not been addressed by chevrolet. I have been damaged by chevrolet's design defect and refusal to reimburse me for the amount it cost to repair my vehicle.
While driving engine stalls. I notice low power torque while trying to accelerate. If i force it to accelerate, it stalls, and turns off. Almost cause 3 or 4 colisions because people driving behind me do not know that my car is goannamake sudden stop when shuts off. This is happening on daily basis after car worms up. I have taken it to the dealer and they pulled codes p0010 and p0011. I replaced both selinoids (intake and exhaust) $42.58 each but that did not solve the issue. I was also told to replace sparkplugs and i did coosing original brand at napa parts store. This also did not solve the issue. I am thinking to replace the coils as well, but they are expensive and non returnable. Local dealer advised me that my power train warranty expired on 12/05/2018. Almost exact date when car started acting up. I contacted gm on 01/08/2019 and 01/15/2019 and was told the same. S.o.l. Wehicle power train expired on 12/05/18. I contacted them on january 8th 2019 and they did not even wanted to talk. I wastold that there is no recals and to piss off. I did however, notice the oil consumption. Walmart associate called me and asked when was last time i replaced oil, and i pointed out the date on the sticker and told him that he wasthe one doing it last time i was at walmart replacing the oil. He laughed and stated that oil level was too low and light is not on. He advised full car troubleshooting and test. I tracked the milage since that date and noticed that car was consuming 1 qt of oil every 1,850 miles. This was not acceptable. Not sure what to do. Car has 37,000 miles and i still owe 10k loan on it. Gm, if you read this shame on you!
Due to it happening to me and from what i have seen researching now my cars engine was blown due to the lack of oil and this particular engine is prone to have an excessive consumption of oil. I was driving the car and started hearing a knocking sound i parked the car. Took the plastic stuff off the top and found no oil in my engine after having a oil change not to long ago. So i had to get my car towed and i still owe on the car
My 2014 equinox uses 1.5 to 2.0 ots. Of oil every 1500 - 2000 miles. The engine oil sensor does not indicate any problems or low oil capicaty.my 2014 equinox makes a loud roaring noise from the rear end on both sides and now will start to shake sometimes when driving, when i apply the brakes it makes a bumping sound
Vehicle shakes when driving, especially on highway, sluggish to accelerate, making highway driving fearful. Vehicle also is rough at idle, with possible dying of engine at stop lights.8 repairs since july, 2017 - all relative to same issue - camshaft/exhaust.this current repairs has been for the balancing shaft/water pump chain, tensioner and gaskets, seals, etc. I have done a timeline of issues/repairs to try to take on gm. Good luck i realize. From the 7 dealership trips in the last year they appear to all have been related to the initial damage to the exhaust/camshaft repairs as each and every time since then, either the exhaust of the camshaft has been repaired in one way or another. The initial issue was sluggish acceleration, engine light on. Repaired exhaust and intake camshaft actuators.then the alternator/belt went out (not counted in the 7 - had repaired elsewhere). I didn't know they failed from oil all over them until they started to fail again and looked under hood and saw oil all over the thing. Took to dealership where they replaced r+r seal, pulley, belt and balancer. Since then we have had the balancer 2x, timing chain 3x, tensioner 3x.
Chevrolet equinox has an abnormal amount of oil consumption. Every 1,500 miles or lower it has to be replaced with more oil, at least a 1 quart to 2 because it gets so low so fast.
My car has begun stalling at red lights and generally whenever i need to stop, i don't get any warning lights check engine light has never gone on and it starts back up but this is extremely frustrating and i'm afraid to drive my car for fear that i'm going to be stranded.i have doneall my oil changes on time and take good care of my vehicle very sad that a 4 year old vehicle has this going on.
Chevy equinox 2014 blew a rear main seal at 88,610 miles after being told is excessively consumes oil. I heard a pop and the low pressure indicator appeared. No indicator was present to show i had low oil at the time of the vehicle leak starting, so i was left stranded on the side of a highway for about 3 hours in -10 degree weather. This was a "common issue" in these models and i was told i must pay 1,800$ to repair it as there are no recalls out on this particular model. The engine completely ate my oil and neglected to inform that it was doing so and it was low, resulting in me being stuck in my car with no heat.
When at stops car would stall. Now being told camshaft position actuator issue. I noticed many others have the same issue.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. The contact stated that while reversing from a residential garage, he noticed that there was an oil leak. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the front engine seal was leaking and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure and current mileage was 640.
Purchased a 2014 chevrolet equinox 2.4l engine back in late 2013 prior to a deployment. After years of no major issues the car began consuming more oil considerably after 115,000 miles. Shortly after this issue began there was rough idling with the service engine light coming on. After taking the car in for inspection it was found that a common issue regarding the timing chain was affecting the car. The timing chain came loose shortly after the service engine light and had rendered the engine unusable. On the drive to the mechanic there was also multiple stalls of the engine which posed a serious safety concern. After hearing from multiple others this is a common issue with the 2.4l ecotec engine.
My car has the same problem as bulletin 14882 states. On a day it was 0 degrees my car started smoking and the engine started rattling. I pulled off the highway and saw oil coming out between the motor and transmission. Bulletin 14882 states that 2010 thru 2014 equinox cars with the 2.4 ecotec have this problem due to frozen pcv valve and the motor building up pressure blowing out the rear main seal. My car has 80,000 miles on it. The bulletin states that cars under 10 yers old or under 120,000 miles is to be covered. Cheverolet says my vin is not in this recall. I was on the highway 10 minutes after leaving my house when this happened. The car is not able to be driven and had to be towed.
Started vehicle and rpms were bouncing and car was idling very rough. I took the car the dealership and was told there was nothing wrong, they could not duplicate anything. I also asked about the hard downshifting and brake fade and was told they were unable to duplicate any issues with car. I picked the car up 4 days later from the "service" and the greasy handprints all over the hood and sides of the car were tell tale signs i would not be returning. I waited approximately 1 month and the start up idle was getting worse so i took the car to another dealer and was told it was normal for this engine to idle rough and emit black smoke on initial start and was given a bulletin that said this was a normal condition for this vehicle. Then on 12/5/14 i received a letter stating that if the car is driven straight for a long period of time the steering could not operate properly and be difficult to turn and you should use force to turn the wheel. This is a new car with less than 7500 miles on it and no one is willing to help? thanks for nothing gm.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. The contact stated while driving 45 mph, the vehicle inadvertently down shifted with a loud sound. The vehicle would not accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer - coad chevrolet (517 s kings highway, cape girardeau, mo 63703, 573-335-5581) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure however, no assistance was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 57,000.
I was driving on the interstate and the low oil pressure light flashed, followed by the oil light and then it started alarming, i pulled over immediately and had my vehicle towed. This happened on one of the frigid chicago days. It was diagnosed pvc valve froze which caused vacuum pressure that caused rear main seal to have major oil leak. My engine was ruined.
Car was running fine, check engine light came on, called dealership, scheduled appt, drove in to have them look at it. Called me and said that my timing belt was loose and that there was shredded metal throughout, not advised to rebuild or drive as it was very unsafe that i even drove it there in the first place. Needed whole new engine which cost more than what vehicle is worth. Vehicle had just crossed 100,000, no other warning signs. Serviced regularly, no issues noted with engine prior to this occasion.
The catalytic converter in the car had to be replaced; the check engine light came on while driving and when taken to the shop, they discovered the catalytic converter was worn out (eroded?) and needed to be replaced.
Same problem as bulletin 14882 driving on the freeway no warning light engine started rattling car smoke lost power car died oil everywherepcv valve frozedue to excession engine oil burning and blew the engine $2300 dollars later supposedly fixed my car has not been rt since filed complaint with chevy i was told my vin not not part of the service bulletin i have read the same isssue over and over i car is back in the shop today 3.24.21 still having issues will never buy chevy again
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. While driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the oil consumption was low and the solenoids were replaced. The failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to jerry's chevrolet(1940 e joppa rd, baltimore, md 21234) where the contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 72,109.
2014 equinox. Left trail and puddle of oil up to and into my customer's driveway. I had the vehicle towed and per the repair facility and then local chevy dealer "this is a know problem".the pcv valve stuck due to moisture in the engine which caused the engine rear oil seal to blow out. 112k miles and perfect up to this point. My vin # per dealership is not covered under warranty (as many online have also complained).
Greetings,we purchased a used chevy eq. A few months ago at 59000 miles for my wife, currently 60000. Since i bought it the engine has rattling/clicking noise. I bought the vehicle with a rebuilt title from an individual and the noise wasn't that bad. I thought it was because of old oil and hadn't suspected such an engine problem. I am a mechanical engineer myself and couldn't think that an engine would have a defect which affects all of these chevy vehicles so i purchased it.today i contacted chevy customer service and explained the problem. I was told that they receive too many same complaints. However, there is no recall related to 2014 year models and since it went to salvage condition that it is now out warranty.my car had a front bumper accident, and no radiator or engine issue after the accident. So it is definitely related to a defected engine. Although the powertrain is protected up to 100k miles, due to the title status the owner has to pay for all the expenses. I was told that, if it had a recall, regardless of title status they would repair it. They used a very bad defected engine in their vehicles and did not issue a recall. There are too many similar complaints posted on websites by upset owners, but they still do not issue a recall in order not to cover this problem. I am very regret that i purchased a gm vehicle. I will never again.can nhtsa do something about it, because these engines are really dangerous on the roads. People posted the same problem about their car which have only 8 to 20k miles in them. The vehicle makes this rattling noise on idle, on reverse gear very much and loses so much power between 20-55 mph, does not accelerate properly and the noise is increased during acceleration.it was addressed as timing chain issue. The engine burns oil. Thank you.
I won a 2014 chevy equinox and i started to smell exhaust but my car passed emissions.found out later this engine is known for cracking in the exhaust manifold.now my vehicles engine is really loud, the smell of exhaust is really bad when idling and driving, also now my kids and myself are have breathing problems.i would like to get this fixed as soon as possible for my families safety.
Vehicle has 55000 miles and check engine light is on. In scanning the car i was told that p0010the intake positions actuatorcircuitand p0013exhaustcamshaft positionactuator circuit needed to be serviced to the tune of between 1200.00 and 1500.00 dollars which is normal for these cars i. Think this is bs i have oil changed every 2000 miles or 3 months with castrol dexos 5w30 and lucas oil stabilizer.sounds like this should be coveredby yhe manufacturer.
Engine is experiencing high oil consumption (1 qt every 500 miles or less).same problem as described in service bulletin 14882 although they say there is no recall on my engine.service bulletin also states 2010-2014 chevrolet equinox which my vehicle is a 2014 equinox.
Traveling on the highway the car made a clanging sound, then i looked at my dash and it said the motor was slowing down. So ii got to the side of the highway and stopped. Called the wrecker and when it was being put on the truck was when i saw the oil under it. While waiting for help i contacted the onstar system they ran a dio for my trouble, but it only came back as "have it services soon". The dealer said the pvc had stuck and blew the motor, it would cost 7000.00+ to replace the motor. And would not buy it against a new car purchase.
While driving on the interstate during a rainstorm and using the wipers at high speed the wiper transmission linkage disengaged and operation immediately ceased. Visibility was completely zero and very nerve racking when you are driving at a higher rate of speed. While on the highway the vehicle went into limp home mode and the check engine light came on. The call shaft actuators had failed and were subsequently replaced. The 2.4l ecotec engine consumes an abnormal amount of oil. More than 1 quart per thousand miles. Milage is approximately 75,000 miles. Also has intermittent hesitation when accelerating with a distinct "jerk". Accelerator position sensor failed at 35k miles.
Engine stalled out while idling in gear, accelerating from a stop or when deaccelerating to a complete stop. Needed one foot on brake one foot on gas to keep running. Lost all power assist controls in traffic when vehicle stalled.
2.4l 4cyl. Motor ran out of oil, no oil on dip stick. No low oil light or pressure notification and under recommended mileage for oil change. Pcv tube to air intake filled with milky oil. Reflects issue for 2010-2013 models. The issue was found after stalling at stop light on busy state road.
Your gm bulletin 14882 should be a complete recall for all equinox's.this part is hazardous, and has cost way too many people alot of money.i have maintained my vehicle that i have only had 1 year and now because of your "special" bulletin and bullcrap that it wasn't built in a special plant i have to spend more then what the truck is worth to put a brand new motor in my suv.as i was driving down a busy highway my vehicle died in the middle of the road in -55 degree weather.in conditions that the pcv rear seal system cannot handle and you all know this, but refuse to take action.how can you be ok with this, and allow people to continue purchase these vehicles?no at chevy, gm, nor at the dealership seem willing to help in any sense and it is really sad, we have been buying chevy since as long as i can remember, and it looks like i may have to start looking at nissan or even ford because at least they care about their customers.1 year i owned the vehicle, and i either have to use it as a lawn ornament - or pay $8,100.00 to fix it - unreal.
Have had ongoing oil consumption issues. Replaced solenoids, cam shaft acuators, added oil all the time. Carburns over 4 quarts of oil every 5000 miles. Took today to dealer for oil consumption test, car burned 3-4 quarts in last 1300 miles. Car literally died there after they did test and put oil in (would not restart) was told timing chain and pistons (at least) would need replaced at a cost of over $3400 at least. If engine needs complete redo over $5000. This issue was prevalent on all chevy equinox model years 2010-2-13 with this issue. There was a service bulletin about them and special considerations ere given to these owners with this issue. I am being told 2014 (wit exactly same motor and same issues ) is not covered by gm. A simple online search yields signifcant data describing exact same issue on this vehicle (2014 chevy equinox) with the 2.4 liter 4 cylinder motot. This issue has been ongoing in my car for over 2-3 years. It fionally killed my motor.
No oil in vehicle. No oil light warning. Did not start. Towed to chevy dealer they replaced timing chain and oil loss issue never solved. Was recommended to speak to senior advisors. But all they ever say is that this vehicle had no recalls. When checking different websites i find this is a big issue with equinox's from 2014-2017. Would like to know how they draw the line on what gets recalled and what doesn't. This vehicle falls within the parameters and years that gm had this problem. Can't get any answers from them. I'm very disappointed. Grew up and always had a gm auto. This will be our last.
While driving 55 mph, the check engine indicator illuminated without warning. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was 106,000.
While driving down the road the engine started making strange sounds and then the engine warning lights came on and the engine quit operating. After pulling out the engine oil dip stick, no oil was indicated. On the rear deck lid there was a oily film.
I have my oil changed regularly and this last time i wasn'tinto the oil change more then 1000 miles and it started making a noise and stalling out took it in and there was no oil in it so they changed it for me but it continues to stall then my engine light came on had it tested and it doesn't show any issues. The stalling happens when i'm at a stop or just slowing down and also backing up.
I star hearing as quick noise in the engine and after a day the engeen is no longer good ,i i'm paying a mechanic to replace engine
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle started to decelerate independently, the oil pressure warning indicator illuminated, and the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the pcv valve was obstructed. The blockage caused significant pressure in the engine, which caused the rear main seal between the engine and transmission to allow oil to pour from the seal. The vehicle was not repaired. Tim lally chevrolet (located at 24999 miles rd, bedford heights, oh 44128,(440) 232-2000) was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 9-5027280547. The approximate failure mileage was 107,000.
While driving the car on icy road conditions the engine seized and the car came to an abrupt halt.we were unable to move the car and it needed to be towed.my young daughter was driving and was quite unprepared for this. This engine seizing is apparently a common problem with this year equinox when temperatures drop below freezing. Something happens in the oil pan or gasket which causes it to explode (for lack of a better word) and all of the oil spews from the engine. Had she been in a busier intersection or sharper curve, wecould have experienced a much different outcome. As brakes and steering would not have been functioning.
Check engine light came on after flushing fluids by dealer, car now stalls at when ideling
High oil consumption and timing chain. Putting in 1-2 quarts an oil each week to oil burning. Which led to the timing chain needing to be replaced. The timing chain needed replaced a second time when the timing chain went out again due to the high oil consumption. Each time this has happened we have been in motion both in town and on the highway.
My wife was driving to work when her car broke down on a very very busy highway. Just before the broadway bridge crossing the missouri river entering downtown kansas city mo literally right before the bridge on the southbound side of 169 highway. The temperature outside was in the negatives. She called me and i picked her up. Mind you i work nights so i was in bed. She had to wait in a freezer basically until i got there. Which was about 35 mins. Hypothermia can take affect in that amount of time. Luckily she had a blanket and an extra coat to cover up with. I dropped her off and went back to the car to wait on the tow truck. There is very little room to pull off the road where it broke down at. Another 10 yards and it would've been blocking a lane of traffic on the bridge. The tow truck gets there and is almost immediately rear ended by a distracted driver. He gets backed up starts to get out and is almost sideswiped by another driver. He calls another tow truck to the scene to block traffic so he dosen't get hit. Finally at the shop. The mechanic looks it over and tells me that the rear main seal has blew out of the engine due to a frozen pcv valve. And the engine is toast because there's a lot of metal shavings on the dipstick. And due to the knocking that the engine is making. $7000 for a remanufactured engine installed is the quote he gave me. A used engine would be cheaper but we'd run the risk of getting one that consumes too much oil. So that's out of the question. Then come to find out they know this a problem?! but are only covering certain vehicles. I'm beyond irritated at this point. Not only have they endangered my wife. Not only have they endangered myself. But they have also endangered the tow truck driver. All because they don't want to fix their faulty design. This type of stuff has gone on for far too long with automotive manufacturers.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. Two months after the contact had the oil checked, the vehicle made an abnormal noise without warning. The contact called on-star who informed her that the diagnostic on the vehicle was well and the oil life was thirty one percent. The contact was advised to have the oil changed after the vehicle was taken on a long trip. The contact attempted to start the vehicle and noticed an abnormal knocking noise coming from the engine. The contact had the vehicle towed to the local dealer (barry's automotive inc located on m 62 w, dowagiac, mi, 49047) where it was diagnosed that the engine failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer stated that there were no open recalls on the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. The contact stated that while driving up hill at 55 mph, there was a load humming sound and there was also a hesitation in the vehicle accelerating. The vehicle was taken to the dealer west-herr chevrolet of orchard park (3575 southwestern blvd, orchard park, ny 14127, (716) 662-9775) however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The mechanic was unable to retrieve a fault code. The dealer escalated the case to the manufacturer who had the case sent to a senior representative. The contact also sent a video of the failure to the manufacturer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer suggested that the technician and service manager perform a road test to try to duplicate the issue. The dealer refused to cooperate and the manufacturer closed out the case. The failure mileage was 30,000.
Ignition key difficult to get in and difficult to turn engine over; ignition key sticks both off and on???i know of similar problems with the same vehicle.ongoing problem with gm???
As i was driving my engine just quit working and my emergency light were nit functioning. I took it to the mechanic and was advised it could be my fuel pump. They mention this specific type of cars are know for these issue. Fuel pump fails causing the vehicle to just stop in the middle of the road.
Engine oil consumption. Vehicle is consuming 4 quarts of oil per week. This results in a loud vehicle, and shaking during a stop. There is no leak in the oil canister, for i have spent $1100 on it recently. The engine is burning the oil at an unreasonable rate.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. The contact noticed that the engine was burning excessive oil when driving. While driving at a low rate of speed, the serpentine belt fractured without warning. The contact took the vehicle to dan cummins chevrolet buick (1020 m.l.k. Jr blvd, paris, ky 40361, 859-987-4345) where the contact was informed that the engine was leaking oil. The contact paid $4,750.51 for the repairs. The contact was charged a diagnostic fee and had the front and rear crank seal, pcv port, exhaust valve, converter, and several other parts replaced. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 146,012. *pmconsumer stated dealer has recommended a second repair but consumer would not be obligated to pay for it.
My 2014 chevy equinox began to stall whenever i stopped at traffic lights or stop signs mostly when i was driving on a busy 45-50 mph road. It would sound like it was having trouble getting air so to speak, and to stay idle.it would sputter and then the engine shut off.it would start back up when i put it into park and turn the key in the ignition.this began to happen with more frequency.upon reading many forums where people reported the same issue, i learned that the camshaft position actuator solenoid valve caused the problem on equinox suvs produced from 2011 to 2014.the part was recalled for the 2011 models but not the 2014.the vehicle issue was resolved when my my son replace the solenoid valve. I think that gm should have recalled this part for the 2014 equinox as it is the same part.
I was told my pcv system had busted and caused a oil leak from the rear of engine and caused my engine to blow.i was told that cold temperatures will make the pcv freeze and bust and cause all your oil to leak out
I was parking my car and it lurched forward about 2 inches. I turned the car off and went into work. When i came back outside 5 hours later, all the engine oil had leaked out and the car would not start. It has been towed to my house and has been sitting in the driveway ever since. I take good care of my car. I do oil changes and any other maintenance issues all in a timely manner.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. The contact stated that while driving at 50 mph, there was an abnormal noise coming from the engine. There was no warning lights illuminated. After the vehicle was parked, the contact became aware of an oil leak underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to (hwy 34 auto sales, 619 1st st e, park rapids, mn 56470 (218) 536-0771) where it was diagnosed and determined the rear main seal blew which caused the timing chain to fracture. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and the contact was informed that the vin was not subjected to a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.
Engines are burning to much oil causing the engine to need to be replaced
Pcv froze up, causing a fail in my rear main seal. Happened twice in 1 year 1 month timeframe. Chevy warranty covered full repair first time, second time was partial chevy pay, the rest out of my pocket.
The contact owned a 2014 chevrolet equinox. The contact stated that while driving and turning into her driveway, the check engine warning light illuminated an abnormal sound was heard coming from the vehicle. The contact turned off the vehicle. The following day, the contactā€™s mother inspected the vehicle and noticed that there was no oil in the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the timing chain had a fracture and the engine needed to be replaced. The local dealer was contacted and informed the contact that the vin was not under recall. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The vehicle was not drivable. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 169,000.
Excessive oil consumption resulting in car stalling and rattling of engine.oil change required more frequently than the recommended 3 months/3,000 miles.engine stalled when switching from reverse to drive.engine rattled when idle until oil is added.
Gm had a lawsuit filed against them for the 2010 - 2013 chevy equinox for excessively burning oil in 2.4 engine.this is still a problem with equinox.i have called customer service at gm and all they did was refer me to the dealer which i do not have a problem with.i took my car in for the regular oil change on 11/6/20 - milage on vehicle is 111144.i reported hearing a rattle sound.it was determine that the timing chains were loose and the tensioner for the chain is maxed out.they checked the oil level and found there is no oil on the stick.filled with 3 quarts of oil before oil would show on the stick.they determined engine is excessively burning oil and will need the piston rings and engine chains replaced to address the problem.i have been checking the oil levels weekly.i just went on vacation and oil level was fine when we left.before returning home, i had to put a quart of oil in the car -- this is only after driving 1441 from the last oil change.also, since i bought the car used, there has been a rattle on start up.i previously located a technical service bulletin that stated it was because of the gasket around the oil pan until the oil starts flowing.the other thing that i have found is when i am stopped, the car will act that it is going to accelerate so i must go into neutral until it is time to drive again.
While driving on 1-30-19, my equinox started rattling and the check engine light came on.i check the oil and it was almost empty.there was oil dripping from the main rear oil seal so i had the vehicle towed to an auto mechanic.after he inspected the vehicle he explained that i blew out the rear main seal due to a plugged pvc valve and there was a service bulletin for this problem, (14882).i contacted a local dealer an he said my vinwas not listed under this bulletin.however they were unable to answer what criteria was needed to be covered under this service bulletin.
Intermittent vibration felt when engine idling.then engine would stall when coming to a stop.happened maybe 6-8 times.got an oil change (wasn't overdue),and problem stopped.
Low pressure warning, car stalls out while moving, left stranded.car was taken to dealer and said pvc plug was clogged causing engine rear seal failure.this is a recall on this model but my vin was not covered, enough though the model year was.i think this recall needs to be expanded.
Rear main seal failed resulting in loss of power of vehicle while in motion rush hour traffic cold winter day city street approximately ogden and ramen city of chicago going into the downtown area
I have an equinox with a blown motor that gm refuses to acknowledge is a problem. There is no low oil light on these cars, not to mention excessive oil burn.i have been complaining about the amount of oil it uses and that its always black - to no avail.a small social media inquiry tells me that 2 out of every 3 of these vehciles have this problem.the dealer milked it until the warranty was up, and now the ag is telling me i'm up a creek because i didn't take it to a different dealer.gm tells me the car is too old to fix - its a 2014!!!! still paying on it!!!chevy needs to be held accountable for this poorly designed motor.i did see an attorney and i was the second person that week with this complaint. How many more are out there?
The contact owned a 2014 chevrolet equinox. After stopping the vehicle, smoke appeared from the front end of the vehicle. Moments later, flames appeared under the hood. The local fire department was called to the scene and extinguished the flames. The vehicle was destroyed and towed. A fire report was filed, but the cause of the fire was not determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 42,000. Photos attached
While driving engine light comes on and a lot of noise. Stoped check engine, oil was leaking from headers. Now need new engine, maintenance shop thinks it was caused by timing chain.
Pcv valve failed; allowed pressure build up in crank case which then blew the rear main seal.$1,600 bill for this.a look online shows this happens repeatedly on this vehicle, but no recall issued by manufacturer and no compensation for the repairs
The motor is consuming a lot of oil and it's not giving a warning when oil is low
On 2/26/20 in the morning, the car was parked when i turned the car on and the engine rattle loudly. I turned off immediately. My husband was with me and asked me to turn it on again. This time it only made loud noises but it did not turn on. It was towed 2 days later to a mechanic in finksburg, md. He said the engine was destroyed and needed to be replaced. The mechanic and us had observed that when the car reached 125k miles, the oil consumption increased and had to be refilled on a weekly basis. Before the engine broke, the car was worth about $4k. The mechanic says it will be $8k to $8,500 to replace the engine. I, of course don't have the money and now i don't have a car. There should be an engine recall on the gm 2014 chevy equinox. It's unconscionable that gm has so many problems with their equinox engines and they keep selling them. I hope i can join a class action lawsuit even if it takes years to force gm to accept responsibility for their fraudulent practices that cause such hardship and emotional distress to us trusting consumers.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. While driving 45 mph and approaching an intersection, the steering seized and the vehicle lost power without warning. The vehicle was towed to ourisman chevrolet of baltimore (6633 security blvd, baltimore, md 21207, (410) 265-7777) where it was diagnosed that the positive crankcase ventilation valve was collecting moisture, which froze and blew out the main seal. Also, the timing chain needed to be replaced. The dealer stated that the vehicle was not covered under any warranties. The manufacturer was not notified. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where they stated that the timing chain was fractured and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 130,000.
Oil consumption issue:my car keeps losing oil shortly after i get an oil change.i don't even know its low until i hear my engine rattling.the last time it was checked by jiffy lube, i had to pay to have oil added and i'm not due for another oil change (aug 8, 2019) until the end of august 2019.no light or indicator comes on to let me know my oil is low. I reported this to my dealer (jeff wyler- ohio) on several occasions and they said there is no recall on my year and they would have to give me a price on inserting piston rings or something to that nature. How am i responsible for this issue when gm knew about the issue and the lawsuit covers equinox for 2012-2017?however, it is low each time they service my call and even when i just went to have a light bulb replaced, i was down 2 quarts and not due for another oil change for 2 months.i purchased this vehicle brand new in 2014 and there is no way i should ever be short on oil - my oil is changed as required to be covered under my warranty.if i would of known it was a recall, i would have been contacted gm.dont' worry i'll never purchase another gm vehicle again.only evidence i have is my receipt from jimmy lube and each print out i get when jeff wyler's service center performs my oil change
Was out of town for the weekend.i was driving it and when i would press on the gas pedal the engine seemed to "sputter" now and again.as i pulled into my destination (thankfully i was not on the highway or a bridge) my car just shut off and was able to glide into the parking lot.i got out i looked underneath and all of the oil was just dumping out of the car like a faucet.with my son being with me and being out of town i figured i would get it towed to the nearest mechanic to asses the situation.they believed the issue was the pcv issue in bulletin #14882.i went without the car for 2 weeks.they did the best they could and i was able to drive it back home.there is still an engine lead however.i called the number on the bulletin and the person there said that my vin is not covered under the bulletin.i was surprised.only 80,000 on the car too.she said i should of taken it to the nearest dealer - however on a saturday night most of them are not open - nor was i familiar with the area.
Goes through oil like no tomorrow. I just got an oil change last month. It's at 73% oil life and my engine is starting to make noise from no oil. I am completely out of oil. My engine is loud when you turn it on and you can hear the gears hitting each other from no oil. I feel like one of these days i'll turn on my car and my engine blows up. I also did some research and i see they've been sued for this problem and nothing was ever done. I got my car looked at and there is no oil leaks. It's also damage my engine from going through so much oil in such a short period of time.
A week after an oil change and tire rotation on 6/12/2018 chevrolet equinox, the check engine light came on and my vehicle shuts off automatically at traffic lights and when i'm parking. I took it to autozone for a free diagnostic reading but nothing comes up except a suggestion to change the solenoid. The tech suggested i add stp gas treatment. After the first bottom and driving 200 plus miles out of state, the light went off briefly. I've added 2 more bottles of gas treatment and drove back home but my vehicles is still shutting off and the engine light is back on. I was in baltimore on 7/12, and my vehicle shut off at 3 traffic lights. I was fortunate that the people behind me didn't resend me. I was in nj this weekend and it shut off at multiple traffic lights and stop signs. I'm taking it to autozone tomorrow to get a printout of the diagnostics then taking it to the dealership. However, my fear is they will charge me for work that won't fix the issue. Why hasn't m don't a recall for the 2014 model? this is very dangerous andnone of us should get rear ended and hurt for them to formally do a recall.
My 14 equinox attempted to start on it's own while vehicle off but key in ignition.i was waiting for a friend to come out of store vehicle was off and stationary.solenoids nd modules keep needing replaced
This morning as i was attempting to leave a parking lot and put my vehicle from park to drive the engine stalled. My vehicle motor just stopped. It did this multiple times as i attempted to put my vehicle into drive. When i arrived at work i attempted to restart my vehicle and it did this again when i pulled into a parking spot at my place of employment. I was unable to put my car in reverse without it stalling.after some research it appears that chevy is aware of an issue with excessive oil consumption in makes 2010-2017.
The engine has been burning oil. I got regular oil changes at the appropriate time. The engine burned more than 4 qts of oil every 5000 miles. I added oil as i went, 4 or more qts between oil changes. This problem caused the engine to always be running hot. After being turned away by chevy, my mechanic was able to get approval through chevy corporate to do an engine oil consumption test after its next oil change which was supposed to be this past monday, 10/14/2019. After the test, chevy had agreed to cover the repair.however, on sunday 10/13/2019, my car wouldn't start. I had it towed to my mechanic who diagnosed that due to the engine burning oil, causing it to run hot, this caused the timing chain guide (plastic part) to break, which caused enough damage and debris to where the whole engine now needs to be replaced. Though the reason the engine needs to be replaced is due to a known flaw that this vehicles engine burns oil, chevy won't cover it.
Was driving the vehicle, started hearing knocking sound and within minutes a loud bang and the car came to a halt. Got out and checked under the hood and all the oil in the vehicle drained onto the ground.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. The contact stated while driving from a complete stop, the vehicle loss motive power with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the fuel injector sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 67,000.
The vehicle burns oil at a very fast pace, the vehicle also goes into power reduced morning with a vehicle can only go to 20 mph, when cutting the vehicle off it hesitates to turn off and shakes wants the engine fully shut down.
The 2014 chevy equinox will stall when accelerating. This happens when the vehicle is first started, this could potentially causean accident. I have taken my vehicle in numerous times and spent over 2k on repairs. Currently my vehicle does not have a check engine light on, no codes. It appears that everything is operating normally. It is not, i will not let my wife drive this car because i am worried that she could be involved in an accident. My most recent i had less than 2.5 quarts left. There is no leak on my vehicle, and i change my oil about every 5k miles per manufacturer suggestions.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. While driving 55 mph, the engine revved and the vehicle stalled. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who stated that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 107,000. The vin was not available.
My engine light has come on twice. The car feel like it wants to shut off. When i turn the car off it shakes.
In the winter of 2018 after about a year of owning this vehicle, i started having issues with the engine. These ecotec engines are affected by oil consumption problems, gm knew about this and didn't decide to do a recall or anything like that. The engine started to make this growling or grinding noise in the engine, it would stall on me when i came to a stop at a stop sign or stoplight. The engine seized on me when i was beginning to make a left turn at night during a snowstorm. Thankfully there weren't really any others driving on the road during that time. I had to get a new engine dropped in the following month of february in 2019. As time went on and i drove the vehicle with the new engine, as of recently i'm beginning to experience the same symptoms of which i was having before when it first went out. It would jerk when i came to a stop, the engine wound stall out but cut right back on, and it idled/idles roughly. In order to stop the stalling and jerking issue i would have to shift the car into neutral then back into drive so i won't hold up the traffic behind me. This is very unsafe, i never know when the engine could go out as i'm driving. Gm knew about these issues and failed to do proper protocol. This is absolutely unacceptable. And i've noticed i'm not the only affected by these issues.
Vehicle rpm surges when stopped at a red light. Vehicle stalled today and shut off but was able to restart immediately. Vehicle has unexplained oil usage.
The engine in my 2014 equinox blew up violently at only 67,937 miles.it occurred at freeway speed on i-94 in detroit and left me totally without power in heavy traffic, including many large, commercial trucks.luckily, i was able to keep my cool and navigate off the nearest ramp, coasting to relative safety. Two connecting rods were broken in half and the block itself completely ruined. I bought this suv from my brother who bought it new and it has always had proper maintenance. I hoped that it was under warranty because it's under 100k miles, but when i contacted my local gm dealer they informed me that it was out of warranty due to the in-service date (fall 2013).therefore, i had the engine professionally rebuilt at the most reputable local shop.at a cost of approximately $5,500. I understand that a special coverage adjustment could be available from gm if there is a recall, but currently none is available. It is my contention that a well-maintained, low-mileage motor like this shouldn't blow up and therefore, it should be recalled.a quick internet search shows that this is not an isolated incident. I asked chevrolet for a partial reimbursement, but they refused.
My car has been having problems starting.the roadside asst person told me i needed a new battery.i got the battery.i got the new battery it was ok after a week.so i took it to my machanic and he told me that the motor was no good.i need my car cause i go to chemo.the next day it happened again i was hearing a knocking sound.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. While driving in a blizzard with the windshield wipers activated, the windshield wipers detached from the vehicle. In addition, the engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to zeigler buick of lincolnwood (located at 6900 mccormick blvd, lincolnwood, il 60712, (847) 674-9000), but was not diagnosed or repaired due to the diagnostic and repair fees. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 76,000. The vin was not available.
The first year i owned this vehicle, the oil consumption was normal. After the first year, it went through oil like crazy. I get oil changes every 3,000 miles, and it was near dry when i would bring it back in. My mechanic began telling me to stop in after about 1000-1500 miles to get it topped off. Which was done, but then i began having chugging happen. I was told this happened because of the engine's oil consumption and would continue to get worse. It definitely got worse until the motor died. Now i have to rebuild a motor or scrap the car. The engine recall should have included my car.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the contact noticed a trail of oil in her rearview mirror. Additionally, there was oil on the driveway pavement of her residence. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to shakopee chevrolet inc (1206 1st ave e, shakopee, mn 55379, (952) 955-6285) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the pcv manifold failed and needed to be replaced. The repair was still pending. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vin was not under recall. The contact mentioned manufacturer communication number: 14882 (engine) as a possible solution to the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 83,000.
January 21, 2019 i was driving home from work. The car started to shake, no engine or warning lights came on. While driving i called my dealer service dept and explained the problem and that i would bring the car directly there to drop off to be checked. On the way, all of a sudden every light came on and told me to immediately turn the engine off. I did and had the car towed to the dealer. The engine blew up and has to be replaced. It was very cold and apparently there was some type of oil build up and frozen water in the air filter which caused the engine to blow out the rear. I service my car regularly and maintain them well. I was shocked this happened as i really liked the car. The car has about 95,000 miles on it. I typically get 250-300,000 miles from my vehicles. I have heard this can be a problem with the engines. I am now replacing the engine with a used one.
It was a very cold morning and i was dropping my daughter off at school on my way to work on a state rt. My engine started making a weird noise and the low oil pressure light came on and instructed me to turn the car off. I pulled over and when i got out of the car i noticed that all of the oil had leaked out of my car onto the ground. Luckily, my husband was off work that morning and able to come and pick me up before i froze to death. A tow truck took my vehicle to the shop that works on our cars. They wanted nothing to due with it due to the fact that this was a known problem for the year make a model of my vehicle. They gave us a copy of a bulletin that was sent out by gm, ref # 14882, stating the exact situation that occurred with my vehicle. We had it towed to a dealership and they informed us that my vin # was not covered. How could this be ok? if there is a faulty part installed into a vehicle, how can the customer be responsible for paying for the repairs? if you search this exact situation on the internet, you will find several complaints similar to mine. On top of being responsible for over 2000.00 in repairs, they also charged me for an oil change and alignment. How is this good business?
I have a 2.4 lt ecotec engine. My car is experiencing oil consumption issue. Every week to two weeks oil is almost completely gone from engine. Oil light does not come on. O ly warning sign there is an issue is the car starts knock and hesitating this usually happens on start up and when in idle. I just bought this car and now found this is a lawsuit regarding these engines that does not include my year but i am having the exact same issues.
My car runs rough and shuts off when slowing down or stopping at stop signs and red lights. My car has 112,000 miles and warranty ran out at 100,000. Check engine light code is p0010.this seems to be a very big problem for the equinox and there are no recalls.the older models have recalls for the same issue. I feel this is a very dangerous issue that cheverlet should take responsibility for.
Vehicle dies intermittently throughout all driving ranges. From idling to driving at road speeds. Multiple times in a trip or randomly.
My vehicle is leaking oil,all over the top of the engine and large oil spots below..i have been unable to drive my car for fear we will blow the rear main oil seal.the issue is thought to be the pcv valve. I looked up my complaint that i was having on the internet and came across similar complaints from numerous(a heck of a lot) of people and found gm bulletin number 14882 that specifies the same complaint that i had. I brought this up to the manufacturing company and they explain to me that this bulletin is vin specific and it would not be covered. Can not understand why not when it's the same engine, year.. Etc.all the other people (who i have read complaints online about it) who have the same issue are being told the same thing....vin not covered.if all these vehicles are having the same issue why are they saying not covered?i guess i will have to do what the others did and file a complaint with the bbb.i can not upload a photo, my vehicle still sits at the gm repair shop.
Purchased vehicle in august of 2018 and about a month later car began to feel different while driving. Problem began when i would come to a complete stop and car would jump when accelerating. Then whilegoing in reverse car would shut off without warning. I had no check engine light on at this point.no check engine light until about march 2018.the with accelerating went from a 'juml',to car stalling and having to be restarted. Began as an every now and then problem to having to be put in the shop because it would stall almost every time i would stop. When it stalled in a major highway with my children in the car was my final point of frustration. It is now april 2019 and is currently being diagnosed. Have had a few different opinions on what the problem could be, but no fix yet. All are costly! after reading reviews this seems to be a problem with 2014 chevrolet equinox and should have been recalled!
Engine was burning oil at an alarming rate, was starting to stall whenever the vehicle came to a stop while in drive, and was louder than normal. Sent vehicle to the dealership and was informed the pvc manifold needed to be replaced. Was also told this is a common problem with this vehicle. The total cost was $812.00 with parts and labor to replace. The car has under 100k miles and apparently gm will not cover the cost in anyway. Was also told this issue could have caused my engine to blow if not caught in enough time.
On january 21, 2019 my 2014 chevy equinox's engine froze. I live in michigan. It was cold. The pressure built up in the engine and forced the rear main oil seal out. I ended up also having to replace my timing chain, manifold and several sensors. My truck has not been the same. Gm only issues bulletins for certain vehicle numbers but they are aware that the issue is effecting many more equinox than originally thought. In fact, they switched the engine in 2015 due to the design flaw. Gm should be held responsible and they should be required to notify all owners of a 2010-2014 chevy equinox. Recall14882 states many of theissues concerning the 2010-2014 chevy equinox with the ecotec 2. 4l engine. Something need to be done about this. I travel over 25 miles to work. When my engine shut down and everything locked up, i was forced to wait for several hours for aaa to get a tow truck to me. My husband rescued me before i froze as nothing worked in my truck. Shame on gm as i know this truck is popular for women and mothers. Thank god my daughter was not with me during the incident. How dare gm allow us to drive around in a known faulty vehicle!
Windshield wipers failed twice in the last six months, most recent repair was june 20, 2020, both during a rain event. Replaced plastic ball joints twice, failed today july 8, 2020. Second complaint, excessive oil consumption, 3 quarts low and never set a check engine light, this has happened 3 times, vehicle has 98k miles
My vehicle was running horrible for a few weeks , then noticed real bad oil leak . Dropped vehicle off at dealer where i was told that i had a blocked pcv valve causing my rear main oil seal to push out . Had all the work done , plus other work dealer recommended. After the fact i looked up my complaint that i was having on the internet and came across similar complaints and found gm bulletin number 14882 that specifies the same complaint that i had. I brought this up to the manufacturing company and they explain to me that this bulletin is vin specific and it would not be covered . Can't understand why not when it's the same engine , year .. Etc
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. The contact stated that the pcv valve was collecting moisture, which froze and blew out the main seal. The dealer (bookwalter chevrolet buick, 335 s sheridan rd, stanton, mi 48888) stated that the vehicle was not covered under any warranties. The manufacturer was notified. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where they stated that the pcv valve and main seal needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 138,000. The vin was unavailable.
The contact owned a 2014 chevrolet equinox. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at approximately 70 mph, the vehicle stalled.the dealer diagnosed the cause to be an over pressurized pcv crank case which caused the seals to blowout and destroy the engine.the contact's wife was left stranded.the contact explained that the check engine warning light illuminated before the vehicle stalled. The contact was concerned that the manufacturer failed to offer a resolution for the failure. The vehicle was taken to apple chevrolet buick northfield (1600 cannon ln, northfield, mn 55057, (507) 645-5619), to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 61,844.
Collision alert system flashes red and the equinox brakes grab on and off, sometimes once and sometimes several times for no apparent reason - distance from other vehicles ahead is more than adequate, speed is moderate, no approaching cars. It seem that the system taps the brakes and then releases . This has happened 5 to 6 times even when no vehicles are in front and the driving conditions are normal - roads clear and dry, some overcast, no cars approaching from the other lane.the dealer is at a loss as to what is causing this.
I bought my2014 chevy equinox new. I was in crash which i hit a full size chevy truck in the driver door and it totaled my car and not one air bag came. I was crossing east and west the truck was going north to south
While driving at day light and then turns to dust the dash board lights go down by approx. 75% brightness and takes from a few minutes to over five plus to come back to bright. This is alarming while driving, chevroletsays that is normal. If anything the dash lights should stay the same or go brighter
I star hearing as quick noise in the engine and after a day the engeen is no longer good ,i i'm paying a mechanic to replace engine
Chevy equinox 2014 engine died when idling or at a stop.happened frequently while in slow traffic.happened when making left turn across two lanes of oncoming traffic.error code p0010 and p0011.problem was caused bycamshaft actuator solenoid valve.
As i was driving my engine just quit working and my emergency light were nit functioning. I took it to the mechanic and was advised it could be my fuel pump. They mention this specific type of cars are know for these issue. Fuel pump fails causing the vehicle to just stop in the middle of the road.
On jan 13 my check engine light came on i didn't have any problems with the car before this and i went to school when starting the car at 5pm with no problems. I was driving home and it smelled really bad so i stopped the car and oil was leaking out everywhere. I had auto zone pull the codes and when i tried to start it it wouldn't start. The codes p0014, p2280, p0089, p0366, p0017, p0011 all came on. I brought it to the dealer and they had to fix the crankshaft rear oil seal, plugged pcv that cause excess pressure, rxr intake, camshaft position actuator solenoid valve, exhaust manifold was replaced but said the fuel pump didn't go bad from all these issues and told me i need to replace it. I never had a proble with anything tell this day and want to know why that wasn't replaced since it was connected to the engine. Now my car wouldn't start when i turn it over cause of this issue.
I was involved in a car accident on november 16, 2020 and neither of my airbags deployed.
The fuel system doesn't accurately reflect the amount of gas in this vehicle.it says is has a full tank when it is almost empty. This is dangerous because owners do not know when the car is running low on gas. Running out gas on highways or in the mountains can be a deadly result.
Car stalls moving from reverse to drive.car stalls when slowing down at a stop light, or when slowing down to make a turn.
Takata recall.engine light is on says its the flex fuel sensor recalls on 2013 models so i believe its an on going problem and believe it still needs to be recalled it also has a rough idle when first started dk if thats caused by the flex fuel but the remote start wont work with engine light on
While driving 52 mph, suddenly the car started accelerating on it's own, quickly. It did stop when i hit brakes.
Lose power/shut down in traffic.danger to drive on expressway
Intermittent vibration felt when engine idling.then engine would stall when coming to a stop.happened maybe 6-8 times.got an oil change (wasn't overdue),and problem stopped.
Car shut off 3 times while idling at a stop light. It appears this is a known issue based on a quick internet search so it seems absurd there wouldn't be an open recall to fix it
Check engine light came on after flushing fluids by dealer, car now stalls at when ideling
Driving on the interstate and received the reduced engine power message which caused the loss of acceleration power.
I recently found that gm had identified that this vehicle consumes a large amount of oil and it causing issues similar to what i am reporting. Only issue is they are requiring a oil consumption test requiring multiple visits to the dealership over an extended period of time. In the mean time i am going to continue to stall pulling into traffic, putting my life and others life at risk.there needs to be a mandatory recall and correct this issue.the attached picture shows the last two oil changes and the amount of oil retrieved. My most recent i had less than 2.5 quarts left. There is no leak on my vehicle, and i change my oil about every 5k miles per manufacturer suggestions.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. The contact stated that while at stop, the vehicle vibrated abnormally without warning. While entering the driveway of his residence, the vehicle stalled with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact inspected the vehicle and became aware of an oil and gasoline leak underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to bryden motors 548 broad st, beloit, wi 53511 where the vehicle was initially diagnosed with a defective rear main seal. Upon further investigation, the mechanic informed the contact that the engine needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified and informed of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 92.000.

The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. The contact stated that while driving home, the vehicle stalled, loss power steering and brakes without warning. The vehicle was restarted and hesitated when the vehicle was slowed down and felt like the vehicle was about to shut-off again.the contact called todd wenzel chevrolet inc. Located at 3156 highland dr, hudsonville, mi 49426, and scheduled an appointment. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 90,000.
The stabili track is messed up. When u give it gas it just boggs the stabili track lighycheck engine light and traction control light came on.this all happen driving down the highway at high speed which made the car just about uncontrollable. Needs to be addressed.it has been on other models
Vehicle has 66,000 miles on it and is a 2014. Bought the vehicle used. Always had oil changed on time and took very good care of vehicle. While driving on a morning it was -5 degrees outside the check engine and the oil light came on. A minute later, the motor shut off. The car started back up but was towed to our mechanics garage. Our mechanic completed a diagnostic and ruled the problem to be the pcv/rear seal. I called gm motors because i saw a gm bulletin stating that this has been an ongoing issue with this year, make and model of vehicle. They informed me that our vin was not covered because the car's parts were not manufactured in a specific factory. I requested an explanation as to why that matters if it is still happening to our vehicle. Gm refused to give me an answer. They suggested that i tow my vehicle to a gm dealership to get the diagnostics from them. I did so. It cost $95. Gm escalated my issue within the company. I waited 3 days for an answer as to if they would help pay for the cost to fix this problem-which the dealership stated would cost $1800.00. Gm called me back and said they cannot help and there is nothing they can do. I will continue to look further into this issue and file more complaints. The customer service was poor and the representative that my case was pushed up to was extremely rude and not helpful. I asked them to help pay for a rental vehicle while our car gets fixed and they refused.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. The contact stated while driving at 20 mph, the vehicle suddenly lost all power and started rolling backwards while in drive. The failure occurred several times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate mileage was 100,000. The vin was not available.
Vehicle dies intermittently throughout all driving ranges. From idling to driving at road speeds. Multiple times in a trip or randomly.
The engine died when stopped at a light.this happened after driving a few minutes.within a week, it started happening more and more often, the engine would just die when stopped at a light or just starting after being stopped.the check engine light came on after a few days. Also, a couple times last winter on cold days the engine ran really rough for the first few seconds after starting. I took it to a dealer and they replaced the cam shaft actuator solenoid valve.i googled and found the 2011 equinox was recalled (11195a) for what sounds like the same problem. The vehicle has less than 30,000 miles and had regular oil changes.

Thank you.

My 2014 equinox uses 1.5 to 2.0 ots. Of oil every 1500 - 2000 miles. The engine oil sensor does not indicate any problems or low oil capicaty.my 2014 equinox makes a loud roaring noise from the rear end on both sides and now will start to shake sometimes when driving, when i apply the brakes it makes a bumping sound
On thursday, 31 january i was driving my 2014 chevy equinox home from work on the highway doing about 60-62 mph and heard a popping noise followed up with my car making a loud noise and the display stating the car was low on oil and the engine was powering down, to stop the car immediately.luckily i was able to pull into a local muffler shop before my car died.they were able to diagnose the problem after some diagnostics and stated that they had seen this same issue recently with multiple chevy equinox's.they also informed me of a tsb dated jan 22, 2016.the ref # is pip5093b.they were unable to repair my vehicle and recommended that i contact chevy about a possible recall and to have the vehicle towed to a dealership.as soon as i called the dealership, i told the gentleman i had a chevy equinox with a major oil leak.he immediately told me it was the rear main seal.i asked him how he knew that and he statedthat with the cold weather we have been having that he had a few others in the shop currently that were getting repaired for the same issue.i asked if there was any type of recall or anything and was told it was not.i contacted chevy and asked about the issue.i tried to stress my concern with the fact that this has been happening so much recently with the hopes that this would be looked into by chevy.a case was immediately created, and i was told that i would have to have the vehicle officially diagnosed by a chevy dealership before anything could be done.so i had my vehicle towed to a chevy dealership since it was not drivable.while the tow truck operator was loading my car for transport, he informed me that he had recently towed multiple equinox's recently due to the same massive oil leak.the dealership contacted me and confirmed the issue was the rear main seal.i was told that the cost of repairs would be $2,184.00 + tax.
Was driving the vehicle, started hearing knocking sound and within minutes a loud bang and the car came to a halt. Got out and checked under the hood and all the oil in the vehicle drained onto the ground.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. When the contact attempted to drive the vehicle, the transmission failed. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000. The vin was not available.
Driving down highway and reduced engine power light comes on, electric stability control comes on check engine light. Car slows from 70mph to 20mph.starts smelling very hot.
Was involved in accident 9/8/2016. It was a total loss. Front end heavily damaged. Airbags did not work or the passenger side seatbelt. Driving straight at intersection and other party ran red light striking the left front and causing frame to crack.
Air bag light comes on. Sometimes it doesn't come on and sometimes it does. It's been doing this for close to 2 years. Passenger seat belt has been sticking often. Sometimes i can barley get it to unclick. This has been happening for about 3 years.

The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. While driving, the brake pedal was depressed and the seat belt pre-tensioner seized. The contact stated that the seat belt failed to retract. The vehicle was taken to north star chevrolet (5854 university blvd, moon, pa 15108, (412) 294-0308) and was informed that the vehicle was unsafe and should not be driven. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 43,000.

The collison avoidence has been activatived 4-5 times.the red collison light and alarm have gone off when there has not been another vehicle in front or to the side.it feels like the either the brake is activated or as if somthing is falling out under the car.i have taken it in to the dealer and they cannot find anything.
This is an addendum that i posted on 3/3/2015 ( see complete report) regarding the crash alert system activating without reason.a week ago on a clear, sunny day, in the middle of the afternoon, without any obstacles or cars around, the red alert light went on and, instead of the brakes pulsating like in past incidences, the brakes applied themselves almost stopping the car before releasing.if a car had been behind us, there would have been a rear-end collision.i am waiting for a call from a gm representative regarding this matter.they and the dealership were alerted about the past incidences that have occurred.a customer service representative asked me what i would like done.my response was fix the problem before someone gets seriously hurt!or, post a recall, since my vehicle isn't the only one having this problem ( see report on 2/16/2015.).
Collision alert system flashes red and the equinox brakes on it on . It seem that the system taps the brakes and then releases . This has happened three times .
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. The contact stated while driving approximately 70-75 mph, the steering wheel failed to respond, without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the power steering control module was faulty. The contact called malloy chevrolet (2700 valley ave, winchester, va 22601, (540) 931-0514) however, the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. Anti steering fluid leaking
"service power steering" warning repeatedly occurs when car is driving.although it usually occurs on the highway, it has occurred in town as well.dealer can't seem to find out cause.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. The contact stated that the check power steering fluid warning indicator illuminated as the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for a diagnostic. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 861.
When i purchased this car this car new i noticed that the steering was very easy to turn. I had a discussion with a management person at the dealership and was not satisfied.i then wrote a letter to your president and i don't remember getting a reply. The problem with the steering is that it turns way too easily and does so at all speeds.i have on several occasions run off the road because of the light steering.i did so again today and was able to get back on the road without hitting anything, but i did have a problem with a bubble in my right rear tire which will take me time and money to have fixed.i have had a number of cars but none have had this type of steering problem.now i am aware that most chevrolet/s had this type of steering in 2014 and although it may not be a direct design problem, it certainly makes the car more difficult to drive, especially at high speeds .i wish that the care wouldn't do this, and i know it is a little late to ask you to make the ca as easy to drive as the other 59 vehicles that i have owned.
While driving approximately 63 mph, the steering wheel turned to the right and seized without warning. The contact pulled the steering wheel forcibly to the left, causing the wheel to unlock itself and almost flip the vehicle over. The vehicle was taken to bradley hubler chevrolet (317-736-5141, located at 1550 n morton st, franklin, in 46131) where thecomputer system was reprogrammed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered the contact a $100 rebate. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 77,922.
Motorhome monaco executive 45' tag axle coach 525hp cumminstoad chevrolet equinox 2014 subject vehicle purchased new 2014nsa tow bar, 6000# limit in excellent condition surge brakesblueox baseplate, professionally installed in excellent shape.while towing four down behind my motorhome, i encountered road construction. Turning slowly on a very bumpy site, the front wheels of the car refused to follow the track of the moho and began a violent shaking motion. I had to stop in a traffic lane on the interstate then proceed forward again slowly in order to correct the wobble.it appears the issue is insufficient caster on the front end while being towed. It also appears to only occur with the 4cyl model with electric steering. The 6cyl model has hydraulic steering. I have been able to recreate the wobble in a safe location. If it occurs on the highway it's very dangerous as the vehicle could separate from the towing vehicle. Two possible solutions are not removing the fuse recommended in my manual which would allow the electric steering to be energized. I'm not sure of any other issues that might result from this practice. The other solution would be to bungee cord the steering wheel to increase pressure on the front end. Again, not sure of consequences. I'm looking for a permanent solution such as a wiring harness/jumper which would still allow the fuse to be pulled yet keep the steering energized. Chrysler had a similar issue with the jeep cherokee. I am hoping the equinox is similar in construction and this is a solution. I've been towing for over 40 years with 85,000 miles on this coach. I look forward to hearing from you. Together perhaps we can solve this dangerous condition. I'm not alone with this issue as i have documentation from others who've experienced the same issue.
Car would not start lights flashing ,making ticking number , once car started then service note on screen said have car service power steering, would not go into drive

August 14, 2014: turn vehicle on, "service power steering" warning came on, then turned off. Turned vehicle off. Waited a couple of seconds, turned vehicle back on, didn't show. Started driving. Parked, the warning went back on. Turned off vehicle. Turned vehicle on, no warning. Drove more. While turning, the steering while locked and "service power steering" came on. Put on park, still on. Waited a couple of minutes, warning turned off. And started driving. Turned vehicle to chevrolet service department, and didn't find anything. Returned vehicle back to owner.august 23, 2014: while making a reverse park, turning into the parking; the steering wheel locked and warning came back on.

I purchased a 2014 chevrolet equinox in september 2015. It had 10 miles on it when i bought it right off the showroom floor. The car currently has less than 1700 miles on it because it's parked in the garage 90% of the time. In november 2017 i opened the vent part of the sun roof and heard a loud crack sound. When i tried to close it, it wouldn't close. The dealership stated that it broke because there was dirt in it. It cost me $1,000 to replace the whole mechanism including the window because they don't make parts for it. My question to the dealer and chevy was 'how does dirt get into a sunroof that is closed all the time?the response has been i don't know. No one can even tell me how to maintain it so this doesn't happen again. I believe that it is either a defect with the sun roof or improper installation at the factory. The new sun roof is made to be more heavy duty but i am concerned that in two years i'll have to replace this also. The customer service person asked if i drive it in areas that there is a lot of dust. The answer was no, but shouldn't it be made to keep dust out?after all, it is on the exterior of the car.
Due to the bumper beinv so low it constantly hangs up oncuon curbs. 2 weeks after owning my 2014 equinox i parked and eent ti to a store. I heard nothing when i parked but as i backed up i heard a scrapping sound. Upon inspection i found the bumper had been stuck on the concrete parking block. Because the whole front is one piece it had pulled away from the light on the passenger side. This piece is attached mainly by little plastic teeth that fit into little plastic squares. The dealership said it would cost $400 to replace the bumper because the little "teeth" had broken off. I could push it together with very little effort. It reminded me of the plastic model cars i used to build.
Began hearing noise from the sunroof two months ago. Shortly after that, we took the car through a car wash and it leaked all around the frame and by the seatbelts.upon checking, there was a space where it was not closing completely.we followed the directions to calibrate the sunroof and it still doesn't work.you can close it, but after you drive for a short period of time it will lift somewhat on its own.the sunroof has not been used during the 4 years that we have had the car.12
The catalytic converter in the car had to be replaced; the check engine light came on while driving and when taken to the shop, they discovered the catalytic converter was worn out (eroded?) and needed to be replaced.

When i turn my car off and before i can take key out without trying to start it tries to start and turn over on its own then stops
We have been having problems as have a few morewith our 2014 chev equinox lt 4 cyclinder motor when we drive on uneven, frost heaves, pot holes roads, any roads.the vehicle when flat towed behind a motorhome will start the "death wobble"i violently shakes the motorhome until we come to a complete stop and then we can start out again.it will do this at any speed. We are following the owners manual and proper hitch adjustments, the 4 cyclinder equinox has electronic steering as opposed to the 6 cyclinder equinox, that does not experience this problem, has hydraulic steering.jeep had the same problem with the cherokee but the developed a wiring fix that powers the electronic power steering wien under tow, gm has yet to admit to the problem. The video i am sending is of a jeep cherokee, but this is exactly what our 4 cyclinder 2014 equinox does, as do many more owners say their 4 cyclinder equinox's does. I had to include a date when this has happened, it has happened many more times than the one i had to put down, this was just the last time it happened. I have tried to send a video, cannot get it done, but if you go to youtube and type in seach, death wobble in jeep cherokee towed behind motorhome and look at 2014 jeep cherokee shaking violently while being towed you will see what is happening to our 4 cyclinder 2014 chevrolet equinox. This happens at any speed 10-60mph and it does not make a difference at what mileage it is. We bought the vehicle with 21184 miles on it, it now has 42555 miles on it.
Squirrels nest inside dash and squirrels inside car.got five out.they kept coming out as i was driving down the road.insulation chewed inside dash from behind steering column across to the glove box.took to dealer they said they shouldn't be able to get into the car.they kept my car for a few days and said that they found a nest and put mesh over a hole where the windshield wiper fluid drains?in the engine compartment area?they said that is where they were getting inside the car.i could have gotten into an accident multiple times.this all happened over a course of a couple of weeks.we would get one out and more would show up.two were sitting on the passenger floor next to me as i was driving down the road,a squirrel was seen on my dashboard inside the car when i was in a store.one was in a bag on the passenger seat next to me.got two in traps that i set on the floor inside the car, etc.this shouldn't happen!!i am tramatized by this and do not want anyone else going through it.
Exhaust manifold cracked in 2 places causing life threatening co conditions inside idling car.seems to be a common complaint on the vehicles with 2.4 liter ecotec engine.roughly a $1000 expense to fix with a new manifold.not warrantied or recalled item.it should be a recall issue.
During heavy rain, windshield wipers flew past straight up, and stopped working without warning. This caused a very dangerous situation because we were driving on an expressway after dark and could not see enough to continue moving. We had to inch along the shoulder for a mile to the nearest exit.
Engine oil consumption. Vehicle is consuming 4 quarts of oil per week. This results in a loud vehicle, and shaking during a stop. There is no leak in the oil canister, for i have spent $1100 on it recently. The engine is burning the oil at an unreasonable rate.
Vehicle engine accelerated to 130 mph on speedometer with engine reving to that speed sound . Vehicle did not accelerate. This happened 4 times on the highway . I pulled off road on each occasion turned of engine and restarted as i was hundreds of miles from home. Had car towed to chevy dealership at destination.as they cannot duplicate issue they will not repair even though i have a extended warranty. My vehicle now remains in 5 hrs away. I am afraid to drive itnot knowing what is wrong. This puts myself and other drivers at risk on the highway.
Fixed my flex pipe last year now its acting up and making the loud noise again makes the nosie while getting up to speed and while in stationary.
Anti steering fluid leaking
This issue, the equinox wobble has happened 5 times for us. This time we were entering the interstate going about 50 mph and the wobble again began and as i tried to slow down, pull over and stop. I noticed in the back view camera that something was very wrong. The equinox was off to the right side and as i attempted to slow down the left (drivers) front side of of the equinox hit the right (passenger) side of the mh causing considerable damage to both vehicles. Fortunately there were no other vehicles on either side of me or the equinox would have collided with them. After pulling off the highway and making a complete stop, i looked to see what had happened and discovered that this wobble had broken the 7000 lb hitch receiver completely from its mounting on the mh and damaged both the tow bar and the safety cables. The safety cables had kept this incident from being much more serious than it was and possibly causing considerably more damage and personal injury.
Driving on the interstate and received the reduced engine power message which caused the loss of acceleration power.
Driving down highway and reduced engine power light comes on, electric stability control comes on check engine light. Car slows from 70mph to 20mph.starts smelling very hot.
The vehicle burns oil at a very fast pace, the vehicle also goes into power reduced morning with a vehicle can only go to 20 mph, when cutting the vehicle off it hesitates to turn off and shakes wants the engine fully shut down.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. While driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle accelerated independently without warning. The contact stated that the engine needed to be turned off in order for the vehicle to decelerate. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 73,974.
Stopped with my foot on the brake waiting to pull out on the hwy.i had been there already about 1 minute, when all of a sudden the car accelerated which caused me to hit the vehicle in front of me (18 wheeler). It was as if your car is in park and you rev your engine. It wouldn't stop with the brakes. It seemed i had no control of my vehicle and it took off on its own.i have since read others having similar experiences of "taking off" or going from 2 rpm to 4 without their foot being on the gas. I also requested the dealership to check for any reason this may have happened besides fixing the damage to the vehicle.
"takata recall"my 2014 chevy eqx only has approximately 30,000 miles on it.while driving on a highway at approximately 50mph the vehicle accelerates on its own.the vehicle goes from 2rpm to 4 rpm with my foot of the gas.this has occurred numerous times on different dates, different speeds.
The stabili track is messed up. When u give it gas it just boggs the stabili track lighycheck engine light and traction control light came on.this all happen driving down the highway at high speed which made the car just about uncontrollable. Needs to be addressed.it has been on other models
There is a about 3 miles where i use cruise control when going to store . When engaging crusie control at around 30 mph motor would rev. Up , transmissionwould not engage .went to dealer , they said with out codes they could not do anything .no engine light but don't know if codes may be there , dealer did not check .
2014 chevrolet equinox.consumer writes in regards to broken ball joint in wiper transmission causes windshield visibility problems.consumer states paid for a repair that should be under recall.the consumer stated a recall had been issued. However, it did not include his model year.
Driving in moderate rain 45 mph with windshield wipers on intermittent. Blades stopped abruptly, stayed in middle of windshield. Motor clicks but blades obviously not engaged at base, which is covered by black plastic and inaccessible. Dangerous!
Driving down highway at 55 mph with windshield wipers on fast, during significant rainfall.windshield wipers stopped in middle of windshieldand did work again.very dangerous as i could not see at all after blades stopped working.stuck my head out window while driving on highway to try and see safe place to get off road.very dangerous.looked up online and see this has happened to many equinox owners.mechanic states that the plastic that holds the linkage broke.this is a repetitive problem.please investigate i could have been killed.
The airflow from my defroster vents stopped working. The heat and air conditioning still work but the air flows only through the front facing vents. I cannot defrost or defog my front windshield when necessary. I have to keep a towel in the car in case i need to wipe it off. It must be a broken directional switch/damper but it creates a dangerous situation. Haven't had time to get it fixed yet.
While driving on the highway in the rain my wipers suddenly stopped working and remained stuck in the upright position. It was raining very hard at the time and my visibility was significantly impaired. I had to pull onto the shoulder and wait for rain to stop before proceeding to the nearest exit. The wiper motor is running (you can hear it) but wipers do not work. In researching this issue i discovered a recall in canada for this issue in my make and model, however the recall in the usa is only for the 2013 model, my car was built in january 2014 in canada. After speaking to the dealer and chevy they will not cover the repair cost. My 2014 equinox only has 30,000 miles on it, and many other chevy owners are having a similar issue.
Driving on the highway and the car was in motion at 55mph. The windshield wipers swiped left and stopped on the left side of the windshield. It was raining heavily and i almost wrecked in order to move over to a side street to stop driving. I had no visibility resulting in a major safety issue. The wipers do not function and will need repairs. I cannot drive the car until it is repaired due to safety on the road!
Mid november 2018, my windshield wipers stopped working. I am a nurse in a cardiac catheterization lab, my pager had gone off, so i actually was driving on my way to the hospital for someone having a heartattack when this happened. It was pouring down rain, i was on a highway bridge with no shoulder, when my windshield wipers just stopped working. They were working when i left my house. The rain was coming down hard, so when my wipers suddenly stopped working, i panicked. I nearly hit a nearby car because i could not see through the downpour. Once i got off the bridge, there was a shoulder to pull off to. I turned my car off, got out to see if something had got caught in the wipers, nothing. I restarted my care to see if the wipers would work, they wouldn't. Luckily, i have a coworker who lives a little further than me who would be coming down the same route who was able to pick me up to get to the hospital. It was no longer raining when i later that night, was dropped back off at my car. The wipers still did not work. I thought, maybe a fuse or something blew. That didn't seem to actually be the problem after further research and assessment. I replaced the fuse, they still didn't work. I could move the windshield wipers with them off, which seems to suggest that the linkage is broken or the motor is not working.
The first time, my vehicle was stationary when i tried to operate my wipers and they did not work. I had the entire wiper transmission replaced and within 5 months, they stopped working again, mid wipe, driving down a city street, in the rain.
Wipers stopped working during rainstorm while car was moving. Luckily i was in a parking lot when i happened. Sounds like motor is working, however wipers have not moved since, and remain useless.
I was driving out of town it started piyring down raib and my wibdshield wiper transmission stopped working!!! i had to pull over because i couldnt see!! this has been an recalll item in prior years and is still dysfunctional in my 2014!!! they want to charge me 300 to fux it i cant afford it! it is still a recall item!!!! i wad in motion on the highway when they stopped working!!! i could've had a bad accident!!!!
The wiper transmission bushing failed.... The failed bushing attaches the wiper motor to the transmission. The incident occurred while traveling home from work on a highway ( i-380) ...the wipers stopped working during a winter storm creating poor visibility and a dangerous situation.
Wipers failed while driving on an interstate freeway. Heavy rain, wipers were on at highest speed setting when something audibly snapped and wipers extended off the windshield on the drivers side of vehicle. Visibility was greatly reduced to the point that the vehicle was unable to be driven.
Driving home from work at 2 am in the rain and my windshield wipers suddenly stopped causing complete loss of visibility on the highway. Almost lost control and had to pull over. Apparently this is a known issue but gm will not cover the repair on my 4 year old, 38,000 mile suv.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. The contact stated that while driving at 70 mph, without warning the windshield wipers became inoperable. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was determined that the plastic bushing that connected both wipers to the windshield wiper motor no longer operated as intended. The contact was provided an estimate of $200 for the repair. Doxon toyota of auburn (3405 auburn way n, auburn, wa 98002, (253) 833-4555) and awesome chevrolet buick (2580 n national ave, chehalis, wa 98532, (360) 245-2265) were contacted by phone, but were unable to assist because the vehicle was not included in a recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and stated that the vehicle was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was 78,000.
Driving home tonight on a highway in a major ice sleet snow storm my driver side windshield wiper suddenly stopped moving as a semi truck was passing.i could not see anything for 30 seconds. Luckily i was able to slow down just avoiding a major accident which could of killed my entire family and involved other vehicles.
The windshield wiper transmission failed. The wipers stopped completely. My daughter was driving in a heavy thunderstorm and couldn't see anything. She was on i-95 in heavy traffic in the middle lane and was lucky to avoid an accident. I'm aware that there was a recall for the same thing in 2013 models and that there is a current investigation into the same problem for other years. This could have been tragic! i see numerous repair videos online for the same exact problem! chevy knows this!
I was riding down a highway through a sever thunderstorm when my front windshield wipers stopped working. My rear wipers remained intact. I pulled over, checked the fuse and found that the fuse was not blown. Therefore, i believe it's the motor. I looked up the issue to discover many people have had the same issue with this make and model.
The wipers failed, stopped wiping in the middle of a heavy rain storm while driving on the expressway. Thankfully able to slow down enough to pull off to the side, very scary! called dealer and was informed that my warranty expired in january of 2017. In researching the repair i discovered that equinox 2013 and i think other years had a recall for the exact failure on my vehicle.the repair mechanic call gm verified the recall on 2013's, the failure on my vehicle 2014 and gm unwillingness to pay for this vehicle repair.the unbelievable irony of this safety issue is that when the repair part arrived it clearly stated "recall" on the label. It was like giving me the middle finger along with the bill.gm should add 2014 and any other vehicles using this component to their wiper recall due to safety concerns before someone gets seriously injured.
I was driving at 45 mph on a 4 lane road during at night during a bad rain storm when the windshield wipers stopped suddenly with no warning at all. Had to pull off the road and put the emergency blinkers on. This was very scary and an extremely dangerous situation. Waited on the shoulder of the road until a police officer arrived and escorted me to a parking lot; she said it was too dangerous to stay on the shoulder on such a busy road. The car has about 75,000 miles and has been regularly serviced at the dealers since its purchase.the dealer replaced the front wiper assembly at a cost of about $400. I assumed that this was a manufacturers defect, since the car is only 4 years old but the service manager said it wasn't, and there was no recall for this problem. If it wasn't a defective part, is this something i can expect to recur every 4 years??i have received no good answers from the service manager.but i went to the web and found a couple dozen pf reports for this exact problem with this car (http://www.carproblemzoo.com/chevrolet/equinox/2014/wiper-problems.php). I've never had the wipers just stop working like this on any car i have ever owned in my 50 years of owning cars. This defective front wiper assembly needs to be addressed as a safety issue and other motorists warned of the danger.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. Without warning, the windshield wipers failed to function. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the wiper transmission failed and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer and the dealer indicated that the oem part was the same as the oem part concerning a manufacturer recall for which the vehicle was excluded. The contact was uncertain if the vehicle would be repaired by the dealer (ourisman chevrolet of marlow heights, 4400 branch ave, marlow heights, md 20748,(240) 455-3386) or an independent mechanic. The approximate failure mileage was 72,000.
Ball joints on the wiper mechanism corroded and broke, making the wipers inoperable during a monsoon on the interstate traveling at 70 miles an hour which was very dangerous at night.but the gm corporation will not recall it but they recalled 3680000 equinoxes with the exact same problem from the year before. But not mine thanks gm for nothing!! i wonder if ford or dodge will back up thier product ???
Front windshield wipers stopped working in the middle of a heavy rain storm.
Driving on e way , wipers just stopped working in the middle of snow storm. Got off at closest exit, went in to auto parts got diagnosis that wiper transmission had went out. Without any warning at all.
Windshield wipers stopped working during rainstorm from hurricane zeta.wiper motor still runs but wipers do not move.wiper transmission linkage has broken. If this hasn't happened to you yet it's only a matter of time before it does.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. The contact stated that while driving at 35 mph, the front windshield wipers failed without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and informed the contact that the windshield wiper linkage bushings were defective and needed to be repaired or replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred 3 more times and the windshield wiper motors were replaced each time. Bob hook chevrolet service (4144 bardstown rd, louisville, ky 40218, (502) 499-0800) was contacted and informed of the failure. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 16v582000 (visibility) as a possible solution to the failure however, the vin was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.
Driving in rainstorm down the highway traveling around 70 mph windshield wipers failed and stopped in place causing dangerous driving conditions.after inspection wiper linkage had snapped.replacement linkage, only able to be run under low speed.
While operating 2014 chevy equinox owned by my wife's deceased father and now owned by his widow and my wife's mother, while approaching a stop light in the rain with the wipers on high do to the rain volume, the wipers suddenly stopped functioning and never started again. Fortunately my spouse was able to get it of the road safely and remained stranded for about an hour until the rain subsided. She was traveling with her 75 year old mother ( owner of the vehicle mentioned) whom isn't in the greatest of health and two small children. Had she been traveling on the interstate even at a reduced speed to match the condition, all could have been catastrophic and we would be talking at this point through my lawyer.after researchingseveral forums, this seems to be a systemic issue and yet there still is not a recall to hold the auto manufacture accountable for this problem. Although they have recognized it in the 2013 models. How many people have to die before action is taken?
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. While driving approximately 50 mph in the rain, the windshield wipers suddenly stopped operating. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Serra chevrolet (1170 center point pkwy, birmingham, al) was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 43,000.
On 12/30/19 the windshield wipers would not work.the vehicle had been parked over night.linkage was repaired.gm refunded the cost.on 7/1/20, the wipers stopped again during a sudden downpour while traveling on a rural highway.
My wife was driving my 2 young sons to daycare in the morning while it was raining when she was almost there the windshield wipers just stoped working. She drove to a friends house close by after dropping my children off and had to get an uber home. Upon inspection i found the wiper transmission arm became disconnected fromthe wiper linkage. After looking online i discovered this was a common problem and it was suggested to replace the bushing that connects them. I replaced it with the correct bushing and reinstalled it. The wipers worked fine for a few days and this morning the same thing happened again while she was driving my sons to daycare and she attempted to use the wipers to spray and clean the windows they disconnected. I have seen this same complaint from many people and am now very concerned that after it gets fixed again if it happens at the wrong time or on the interstate we could lose visibility and it could cause an accident.
Car was in motion and wipers were in use during rain and wiper just stopped!while driving one evening in the rain, driver's side wiper abruptly stopped mid-wipe and stuck upright on the windshield. I was forced to pull over and inch along to a service center as visibility was severely limited.chevy dealer determined that the wiper motor and transmission had failed and that part recall had not yet been expanded to 2014 year in the us. I am furious to learn that the recall was expanded only to canada!besides the $350 i am out for the repair i am disappointed that gm is not doing the right thing. Safety was the biggest factor in my decision to buy an equinox and with a teen driver in the house, a failure like this could have been catastrophic!!
Wipers failed as in the 2013 equinox's recall.i was traveling in traffic on us 85 south in heavy rainfall.only by slowing down and carefully moving to the right hand lane where i could see the white line, was i able to keep control and not be in an accident.had i not been an experienced driver, it could have been a multi car incident.
My windshield wiper blades stopped working while i was driving on the highway in the middle of a thunderstorm. It was raining extremely hard, i had to pull over to avoid hitting someone because i could not see out of my windshield.
Wipers failed during a rainstorm causing very serious safety issue on major highway.lost complete visibility.
While driving during a rain/snow event, the driver side windshield wiper stopped working. The driver side wiper was suspended while the passenger side continued to move.as visibility decreased my 17-year-old daughter had to pull over and call for assistance.she could no longer see out the driver side windshield.
I was driving on the highway and the windshield wipers stopped working in the middle of heavy rain and traffic. We had to pull off the highway with hazards and by sticking our heads out of the window.
Have a 2014 equinox lt. Is just over 2 years old, with just over 65k miles on it. Just recently had the windshield wipers stop working while on the highway. Called gm dealer regarding the 2010-2013 model year wiper ball joints in wipers recall.service specialist tells me my 2014 is not affected and is not included in the recall and "would only be covered if gm see fit to issue one including 2014 model year including your vin". Well guess what the problem is the same common broken ball joint in the wiper transmission that these vehicles were recalled for.however in my case because my model year is not included i have to foot a $180 repair bill. The vehicle was in motion on the highway when the problem happened.
As i was driving down the street the wiper blades stopped working. I tried to turn the wipers back off and then back on and the motor seems to work however the blades were not moving. It was raining out and i was driving when this happened. This is a big safety issue. Luckily i did not get in an accident.
Went out to start my car,i started it up my wipers took 2 swipes over the front windshield,. I didn't even hit the switch ?then they returned back down by base of windshield & never came back up to swipe my windshield again ? checked the fuse, it was fine ! i have yet to be able to use my car,do to this safety issue ?? what do i do ? was told that there is a recall investigation on the frontwindshield motor & arms ? i was setting idling in my driveway & warming up my car ? i am still unable to leave my driveway ?do to the wet, slushy weather &possibility of splashback on my windshield, that i couldn't clean off ?to allow me to see where i was going ? so, what do i do now ??n
While driving on the highway, the windshield wipers stopped working while it was pouring. When the drivers side wiper stopped it was completely off the windshield and the passenger wiper was in front of the drivers side.this caused very poor visibility and was very dangerous. I had to go across multiple lanes to pull over.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph in the rain with the front windshield wipers activated, the driverā€™s and passengerā€™s side wipers suddenly stopped operating causing a visibility hazard to the driver. After stopping to examine the vehicle, the windshield wiper motor could be heard operating although the wiper blades were inoperable. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer werenotified of the failure. The failure mileage was 117,000. The vin was not available.consumer stated dealer covered the linkage arm break under their warranty coverage.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. While driving in heavy rain, the windshield wiper blades failed to operate. The contact stated that this was the second time the wipers failed in six months. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed with an inoperable wiper transmission that needed replacement. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and filed case number: 8-2937851979. The failure mileage was 44,165.
On 1/18/2020, while driving during heavy rain, the wipers swung to the left during a cycle and stayed in the far left position. They did not cycle anymore and became loose and could be moved by hand in any direction. Pulled off and got under hood and changed the fuse #29, with no avail. The wiper motor could be heard but would not cycle the wipers. Very dangerous conditions in which to lose function of wipers.
Windshield wipers stopped during a really bad storm!!!! could've resulted in fatalities!!!! not understanding why there hasn't been a recall for all years affected by this as i see they recalled year 2013. The worse part is that there will have to be a fatality before they recall a part that is obviously problematic for so many others!!!!!
You have the equinox listed as having zero recalls. That is not correct. I was contacted by mail about a recall for the front wiper transmission assembly (canada only). If some of these canadian parts have made it on to us models then the same failure will happen. From the complaints i just read on this site that has obviously happened. I would feel terrible if someones wipers quit working during a storm and they or their children were hurt or even killed in an accident due to wiper failure and i knew about it. I am uploading photos of the notification i received in the mail in the hopes that gm acknowledges the fact that the wiper failure can and is happening to us models as well.
Wiper blades stop working in mid stream
At the end of february 2019 the transmission in my windshei6wipers went out.gm refused to fix the problem.i only had my car for 2 years.i was driving in the middle of a rain storm.
Windshield wipers quit functioningcar was bought used w/ approx 65k miles. Currently has 78k miles. In a heavy downpour, the windshield wipers quit functioning due to linkage bushing falling off the motor ball joint connection. Luckily was close to home. Can not order just the bushing from the dealer, entire linkage must be replaced. Dealer would not cover cost of replacement.
I was driving on the highway in the middle of a thunderstorm.wipers had been working just fine, then all of a sudden they went completely off the driver side of the windshield, i had no visibility, and was almost rear ended when they stopped working.i had to pull over on the shoulder of a 3 lane highway and wait until the rain stopped.i took it to chevy dealer and they wanted $150 to just look at the car. Took it to a local shop and it was diagnosed as a common issue with chevy equinox's.the wiper transmission link stopped working. The motor on the wipers still works just fine.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. The contact stated that while driving in inclement weather, the windshield wipers became inoperable. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the windshield wiper transmission linkage was fractured. The contact was also informed that the windshield wiper arm was fractured. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. The contact stated that the windshield wipers failed to function properly so the function was not available due to the failure when there was inclement weather. The dealer daniels chevrolet (365 e main st, swainsboro, ga 30401, (478) 268-4052) indicated that the vehicle would need to be diagnosed to repair the vehicle and they also stated that there was no recall to cover the replacement part for the repair which was unacceptable to the contact. The vehicle was not repaired yet. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was not available.
My windshield wipers quit working during a severe thunderstorm. I navigated to a repair shop. The part replaced was my windshield wiper transmission. The part id is 84241847. This part id was included in a 2013 recall on the chevy equinox. Mine is a 2014 with the same part. Consumers should be aware that 2014 models also carry this risk. It was a terrifying situation to be in. There should be a recall on any model with this same part id.
While driving down the highway in a rain storm the driver side windshield wiper suddenly stopped working forcing me to find a safe path off the road and pull over until the storm stopped.upon inspection it seems the ball joint popped off the plastic bushing causing the driver side wiper to not move.
Windshleld wiper jumps off windshield on driver side. I've replaced the entire mechanism several times and it only lasts about six months or so before doing it again. Terrible design. Plastic parts.someone needs to do something about this. I put down october 30, 2020 as the date this happened but it's not the first time.
Windshield wipers stopped working in the middle of using them at night in the rain on the florida turnpike. Windshield wipers went down and never came back up. You can hear the motor working but wipers do not move.
When driving with the wipers on low, the wipers worked as expected.when the wipers were switched to high, the plastic connector points under the hood became disconnected and stopped working completely.this was at 65 mph with the visibility going from adequate to zero instantly. This has now happened three times, even with new connection points and then a new assembly.
My wipers quit working driving home from work yesterday. It was raining pretty hard! thankfully no one was hurt. Upon further inspection the transmission bushing has rusted away completely causing my wipers to quit working altogether
My windshield wipers stopped working while driving out of town.i could still hear the wiper motor but there was no movement of the wipers themselves.luckily, this occurred as i was pulling into our hotel otherwise it would have been an extremely dangerous situation. This happened on a saturday night 4/14/18.my wife and i were stranded in toronto, ontario for an extra day (we live in michigan) since a dealership wasn't open.on monday (4/16/18) we went to eastside chevrolet in markham, ontario.they indicated that the problem was internal failure of wiper transmission.they replaced the wiper transmission and i had to pay $560.99 (canadian), approximately $447 us dollars. I understand that there is a safety recall for the 2013 equinox but not for 2014.however, the recall for canada goes thru 2017.the rationale for the extended canadian recall appears to be due to the climate yet the climate in michigan is very similar to ontario, canada.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. The contact stated that while driving 75 mph in heavy rain, the windshield wipers ceased operating. The contact safely exited the roadway onto the shoulder and called for roadside assistance. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the windshield wiper motor was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 57,000.
Driving in very heavy rain around 5:30am, so also very dark out. Windshield wipers on auto, medium-high speed. Going around 30mph and hear a moderately loud "clunk" come from area in front of dashboard and steering wheel. Suddenly my wipers no longer worked, and within seconds it was impossible to see out of my windshield. I had to litterally stick my head out of my driver side window and look for a side road/driveway to pull over at, not easy in the dark with heavy rain. Turns out the sound came from just under my wiper arms, which became disconnected from the wiper motor, as the linkage arm popped off at one of the plastic bushing ball joints. I was driving on a well-paved city street, with no harsh bumps or pot-holes, linkage arm disconnected just from use of the wipers. Thankfully i wasn't going 75mph on a highway or this could have been far worse. I had to sit on the side of the road and wait for a friend to come pick me up, car was left there until that afternoon when it was daylight out and had stopped raining. After inspection, i was able to manually move my wiper arms, my first sign that they were no longer connected to anything. I've tried a couple different plastic bushing replacements, none of which lasted longer than a day before the linkage arm fell off again. I am currently being "forced" into buying a whole new wiper transmission. Not pleased, this massive safety issue is costing me money to fix, and not even permanently as a new wiper transmission will likely have the exact same issue. And, the only time this linkage issue will occur and cause a failure, is when i need the use the wiper to actually see.
Driving in heavy rain, wipers on high, stopped functioning. Was driving 40mph on a highway.. Rt 19, pittsburgh, pa.unable to see.stopped vehicle,as safely as possible with no visibility.was able to manually move wipers. Unable to use wipers at this time. Unable to find a recall. Do see multi complaints with this issue.
While driving home from work in a torrential rain storm, my wipers quit working and i had to pull well off the road (us23) and wait out the storm.the storm finally abated and i was able to continue home.
I was coming home from running errands when it began to rain heavily. All of the sudden, my windshield wipers quit working in the upright position and i had zero visibility. It was one of the scariest moments of my life. I quickly put on my hazard lights and pulled to the side, however, if i had been on the highway or moving and a faster speed i hate to think of what would have happened. After researching the problem online, i am reading countless stories of equinox owners who have had exactly the same situation happen - this is horrible and chevy needs to stand by its product and recall the wiper transmissions on all of the vehicles in question.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. The contact stated that the windshield wipers failed to function properly during inclement weather with no warning and had almost potentially caused a crash which meant that the contact had to drive extremely cautious without the function of the windshield wipers while on a major highway. The emergency blinkers had to be applied when the failure occurred .the dealer autonation chevrolet (highway 6, 8100 s texas 6, houston, tx 77083,(281) 406-3559) was contacted however, the vehicle was unable to be driven to the dealership due to the fact that it was a rainy downpour so the vehicle was parked at the contact's residence. The vin was not available. The dealership and the manufacturer indicated that the vehicle was excluded from any recall campaigns and that the warranty had expired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was not available.
My wife was driving my 2014 equinox during a heavy rain storm when the wipers suddenly stopped. She was on i90 heading back to new york from a conference in massachusetts. She is lucky she did not get in an accident traveling at highways speeds in a heavy down pour. The vehicle was brought home on a flatbed as it continued to rain. Once the car was home i removed the wiper transmission cover and found that the ball joint that connects the motor to the transmission fell apart. Since i need the car i purchased a replacement wiper transmission from a local auto parts store. I called gm to report the problem and they said itis not covered and that there is no recall...
Windshield wiper stopped working while driving on rainy night on the freeway. Had to pull off the freeway and wait for rain to stop
I was driving in the highway during a ice/rain storm when my windshield wipers stoped working causing a serious hazard situation. Gm has to start fixing this problem before someone causes an accident and someone dies beacuse of this. Hope something gets done quick .
I was traveling on the interstate after dark in the rain at approximately 65 mph. I had my wipers set on high when they suddenly stopped working mid cycle. I could hear the wiper motor cycling but the wiper arms were not moving. I knew something was wrong with the linkage ( or transmission) from the motor to the wiper arms. The wiper transmission required replacing due to faulty bushings on the transmission links. The connecting arm fell off leaving the wipers inoperable.
Wipers were running and then suddenly they stopped during rain storm.when i turn the wipers on now, they just make a clicking noise but they do not move
Vehicle: 2014 chevy equinoxnote:3 incidents, all from windshield wiper transmission failingincident #1: 5/19/2019,driving @55mph on highway(with my family in the car!) pouring rain, windshield wipers on high & the wipers stopped working! no visibility at that point! truck behind me had to veer off almost hitting us because i had to slow so quickly!! had to stop,my husband was able to pop the ball joint on the wiper transmission back in place. Extreme safety issue!!!! incident #2: november 15,2019, driving 35 mph close to home, using wipers due to rain.windshield wipers on constant low.they stopped working.(3 year old grandson in car.) replaced the windshield wiper transmission the next day. (have receipt but it wont download.)incident #3: february 13, 2020, it had snowed, car was parked, started the car to warm it up, wiped all the snow from windshield and below wipers so there wasnt an unforeseen issue with the wipers again.went back in the house with heater on defrost, about 10 minutes later returned to the car (with 3 year old grandson), got in the car, turned on the wipers and the 3rd swipe, the windshield wipers stoppped working again!! same issue.my husband replaced the ball joints two times since feb.13th and they keep doing the same thing, swipe 2 or 3 times and stop working. Today is february 18, 2020 and ive still no use of wipers.husband's gone for work all week and home on weekends. I am now using rain-x and a squeegee to keep my windshield clear due to having to take my grandson to preschool & back daily & 1 vehicle. My vehicle wasnt included in the prior recalls.someone needs to change this because it's apparent that its a huge safety issue! this needs addressed asap with some changes! this has gone on far too long and too many complaints not to put out a recall! why wait for deaths to occur to recall this serious malfunction!
I was driving at about 60 mph on the highway in a severe thunderstorm when my wipers stopped working.the motor was still running.i had to pull over because i had no visibility immediately.thankfully, i was in the right lane and could get to the shoulder immediately or there would have been an accident.had my car towed home.
The wind shield wipers stop working entirely.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. The contact stated that the windshield wipers ceased operating while driving in a rainstorm. The contact pulled over to wait out the storm. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed nor repaired. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 123,580.
On june 8, 2019 my family and i were driving on a busy highway when it started to rain very heavily.about three minutes into the rain storm the front windshield wipers abruptly stopped working and stuck in the middle of the windshield.i had zero visibility and came very close to crashing into another vehicle.i was able to pull over and wait for the rain to pass. It took me two hours to get home because i had to constantly find places to pull over and wait for the rain to subside.usually it only takes about 25 minutes to drive home from this destination.it was a horrible experience and we came close to seriously being hurt or killed directly because of the wiper failure and the zero visibility due to the heavy rain.i did some investigation and found where gm had to recall the 2013 equinox and gmc terrain models due to windshield-wiper failure.i took our equinox to our local certified gm dealer for inspection and repair of the wiper on june 11, 2019.the service technician showed me that the wiper transmission arm had broken off of the wiper motor.this is the exact same cause of failure that led to the recall of the 2013 equinox model.our gm dealer told us that no official recall had been issued for our 2014 equinox.gm needs to recall the 2014 equinox model for the same wiper failure of the 2013 equinox model!!! the 2014 equinox models were released in the year of 2013.they have the same wiper model on them as the 2013 models.i have the official repair invoice with the description of the wiper failure diagnosed by our gm service dealer.i also have in my possession the failed wiper motor assembly that was removed from my equinox.my family and i beg you to please investigate these faulty windshield wipers on the 2014 equinox and require gm to recall this model.
My wipers just stop working in the middle.of wiping!!!!
The ball bearing on the wipers broke while i was driving in heavy rain. They immediately stopped working and nearly caused me to crash because i couldn't see. There is a recall for 2013 models. Mine is a 2014 that i bought in december 2013 brand new from the dealer.
On july 14, 2019, i was traveling on the interstate from out of town when a heavy rainstorm came out of nowhere.i had my two children and dog in the car with me. I immediately turned my windshield wipers on and they were working fine.not even five minutes went by and they stopped in the middle of my window and while on a busy interstate.i had no clue what caused it as i had no issues leading up to it.i attempted to pull on the side of the road and almost hit a motorcyclist under a bridge due to lack of visibility.chevy needs to issue a recall immediately.the 2013 model was recalled and from what i have read alot of people with my same vehicle is having the same issues.i pray no one looses their life over this issue.i am not understanding what chevy is waiting on as this is very dangerous and costly to have repaired.
Ii was driving in a moderate to heavy rain storm on the interstate with heavy traffic with my wipers on ,when they just failed in middle of windshield ..now not only do i have to navigate to the shoulder in heavy traffic and pouring rain i also have to do it with limited visibility with wipers in my middle field of view 'finally made it to shoulder of road .,where i stopped waited for the rain to stop and moved the wipers from middle of windshield ..thankfullyi was not rear endedbeing stopped on a major interstate in the pouring down rain
My wife was driving on interstate 40 during a heavy rain when the windshield wipers suddenly stopped working.because of this she was nearly in an accident.we had to have the vehicle towed back to our home as it was unsafe to drive in the current weather conditions.
My windshield wipers quit working and froze in a slanted upright position during a severe thunderstorm on the toll in central florida on 8-29-18 driving at 60mph. After narrowly avoiding 3 accidents and death because i couldnt see,i navigated to 2 seperate repair shops who pretended to not know of this defect and demanded i pay for "diagnosing" this seriously life threatening known vehicle defect.i believe this part was included in a 2013 recall on the chevy equinox. Mine is a 2014 with the same scenario. All consumers should be aware that 2014 models carry this potentially fatal risk. It was an extremly terrifying ordeal to be in. I made a police report after one shop threatened me and refused to release my car for telling me what needed to be fixed and forcing me to pay a diagnostic charge of $117.70 while doing nothing to help the issue. I went to the dealership the warranty company told me to. Only later for them to claim no record of the calls i made exists and that this was not covered and it was to be paid for by me because my coverage expired in 2017 admittedly by them without any warning or notifications being made to me.there really should be a recall on any model with this same part id or situation.
My husband was ⁵driving south on wisconsin highway 43 on september 22, 2019 in heavy rain when both wipers suddenly whipped over to the left and stopped working. The driver's wiper stuck out to the left of the car window and the passenger wiper stayed on the windshield on the driver'sside. We turned knobs and tried everything we could think of to start the wipers, to no avail. This was a dangerous situation with very limited visibility in fast moving, heavytraffic.we exited as soon as we could to reposition the wipers and attempt to turn them on again. They would not move. We were fortunate that the rain let up some as we continued home in this unsafe manner. This is a safety issue that should be addressed by general motors with a recall and repair.
While driving down the interstate at 70 mph in a heavy rainstorm my windshield whipers just stopped working. They stopped in the upright position. This is very dangerous and luckly i was able to pull over but could not see out the front window because the rain was so hard. Looked it up and found this is a common thing and has even been recalled in other places. With 2 kids under the age of 3 in the car with me this was really scary.
Driving home on the turnpike during the pouring rain, windshield wipers were inoperable.visibility was compromised.very scary, almost had an accident.gmac says that there is no recall for my 2014 equinox.
While traveling on an expressway with heavy traffic in a rainstorm with my children in the car the wipers stopped working forcing us to immediately get to the shoulder. We almost crashed and spent over an hour stranded and hoping no one would crash into us until the rain let up so we could drive to the nearest exit. At 54k miles gm's wiper transmission with plastic used in the moving parts failed. Ntsha id16v582000 has been issued & needs to be expanded beyond the limited vehicles. Obviously, this is still a very dangerous problem!
Takata recall. On 5/9/2019 i was driving 4 1/2 hours from my home to a cabin for a mini trip. It was sunny up until about an hour into my trip then sudden rain started pouring. I turned my windshield wipers on and within a matter of seconds they malfunctioned and stopped to the left side of my vehicle, hanging almost off of my vehicle. I was going approx 70 miles an hour on the interstate in the pouring rain when they malfunctioned and i couldn't see anything in front of me. I had to try to get to the side of the interstate before i hit something but that was hard to do because i had no visibility of what was in front of me.
Driving in a heavy rain at night on the highway and wipers suddenly stopped creating a hazzard not only for me but all drivers nearby. Chevrolet won't accept responsibilityfor repair of this known issue on my 4 year old, 38,000 mile car.
We were driving on the highway in the pouring rain when all of a sudden the wipers flew off the drivers side and got stuck. We nearly died and caused a large accident over thanksgiving. Why has gm not recalled this?
Second occurance -- both stationary and in motion the windshield wipers either do not move, move very slow and stop mid-windshield. This part was replaced with and oem part just over 1 year ago and is doing the same thing again.
I was driving down the expressway during a thunderstorm when all of a sudden my wipers stopped. I proceeded to the median to try to see fix the problem. Then i drove cautiously to the next exit. I could hear the wiper motor going but the wipers it self would not work. It was a very dangerous situation an as i see this is a huge problem with equinoxes.
The windshield wipers froze in the upright position during a severely heavy rainstorm while driving west bound on the colin kelly highway at 3:25 pm on august 16, 2019. Traffic was moving at 55 mph. My grandsons and i were lucky and despite zero visibility we were able get off the road before the cars behind us hit us.we waited out the storm and returned home where we checked the fuse.the fuse was ok, and you could hear the wiper motor working.we took the car to a local repair shop in madison florida.they diagnosed the problem as the windshield wiper transmission. An estimate for a repair is $300.an internet search shows this is a common problem for 2010 through 2017 equinox due to a poor design that uses plastic bushings.
While driving in the pouring down rain, aprox (45 mph) i had my wipers on high because it was raining really hard, all of a sudden they just stopped working. The arm on the drivers side kind of wrapped around the driver side of the car.i was able, by the grace of god to inch my way over on the shoulder from the fast lane.the wipers never would work again. I could hear the motor for them but they wouldn't move.next day(when luckily it was not raining and was dry) i was able to get it to weber chev. Creve coeur and they worked me in their busy schedule.i was told it was the wiper transmission.there has already been a recall for this exact item for 367,800 terrains and equinoxes from 2013.there is an investigation for 2010-2016 recalls.this was a very dangerous situation i was in and luckily i was able to stick my head out the window in the pouring rain to inch my car a mile and a half home by way of the shoulder. Please consider a recall for all from 2010-2016
Driving 45 mph down a street in a downpour at night.no streetlights on the road.my wiper arms both stopped moving.immediately lost ability to see the road while traveling at a good speed.was able to veer toward the middle of the road and slow down to 5 mph, where i was then able to see the road again.had to drive 6 miles at 5 mph to get home.took car to dealership next day and droped it off.told them the problem.wiper transmission broke.extended warrentee took care of the replacement.but this car only had 50k miles on it and its not been driven hard.very unnerving to have something break that isn't used so often.seems like a lot of these wiper transmissions break. Recall soon??
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. While driving 40 mph in the rain, the windshield wipers failed without warning. The contact's husband diagnosed that the wiper transmission linkage failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v582000 (visibility). The approximate failure mileage was 42,000.
The plastic cap that connects the wiper ball joint to the wiper control linkage on my 2014 chevrolet equinox broke during a rain while driving out of state. I was able to finish the last 10 or 12 miles of the trip by stopping every mile or two and operating the wipers by hand. Ridiculous and dangerous. Upon returning home i repaired the defect only to have it break again almost right away. I repaired it again, checking to be certain the repair parts were correct, they were, and this time it worked correctly for aprx a month, then a different cap and ball joint on the same mechanical part suffered the same failure. Once again i repaired the damage, which this time worked for a couple of months, until this morning, 11/01/2019, when it again malfunctioned before i left my driveway. I see there have been a number of other people reporting this same issue, and there was a recall for this problem on the 2013 model; i feel this is a manufacturing issue as i have only ever had to address this malfunction one other time in my life on a 20+ year old vehicle. But even that time it may have been my fault as i was working in this area of that vehicle and i believe i inadvertently stressed that mechanical connection. I'm an auto manufacturer retiree and have worked around cars, including a few years doing final line repair at the manufacturer, and feel quite convinced this is a manufacturer defect that needs to be addressed. As of now i'm left with little recourse except to replace the entire wiper assembly; something i am highly unsatisfied with bearing the expense and responsibility of doing.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. The contact stated while driving in inclement weather at approximately 50-55 mph, the windshield wipers failed to perform as designed. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic to have a diagnostic test performed. The contact was informed that the windshield wiper motor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 129,000.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. While driving 40 mph, the windshield wipers seized without warning. The vehicle was taken to tom kelley buick gmc (633 ave of autos, fort wayne, in, (260) 434-4600) where it was diagnosed that the wiper transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. The failure mileage was 72,000. *as
Windshield wipers stopped working on 3 year old car in the middle of a terrible down pour during rush hour traffic while in motion.ability to see was immediately impossible and an extremely unsafe move to the shoulder of 3 way traffic took place.a new windshield wiper motor and transmission kit was required.a quick google search indicates this is an ongoing problem with the 2014 equinox.
Driving on a four lane interstate at 65 mph when my wipers just stopped in an upright position.
During a torrential rain storm friday night april 19 2019 apx 11:15pm on 295 near exit 29 off ramp wipers stopped working had to be towed and now having repaired thru warranty company and in a rental because the motor is defective
Driving home from work, in heavy rain and the wipers stopped working. Stopped in the up position
The windshield wiper transmission arm has become disconnected from the wiper arms. There is a recall on 2013 models. Obviously there's a problem with this year also. The vehicle was in the driveway, my wife put the wipers on, heard a bang noise and the wipers stopped moving.
Wipers stopped working suddenly on my way home from a local mall with 3 children in the car, in a snow squall. It was pretty scary i had to pull over on the highway for 45 minutes until it stopped snowing.i could hear the motor still working but nothing was moving. Took to my mechanic to find out it need a new wiper transmission beacuse it had failed $370 bucks later their working again. Clearly this is a problem that gm has not been able to correct and these vehicles should have been recalled as well.
While driving home in a rain storm, i heard a noise from my wipers and then they stopped working.the motor can be heard running, but the blades do not move.this was extremely dangerous as i was on the highway and could not see.after researching, the linkage has broken off and the wiper blades will not move.i cannot operate the vehicle safely in rain/snow and i live in new england.this created a very dangerous situation as i had both my children in the car as well.
On10/09/2017 as i was driving on route 3 heading to cape girardeau missouri on a very raining day well my wipers in the front broke and i was unable to continue to drive so i had to hurry up and and pull off the road. So i had to replace wipers bushing. That was a very dangerous experience for me and the dealership stated the recall on them stopped on the 2013's
I was driving on a four lane highway during a major down pour, suddenly the windshield wipers stopped (standing straight up). It happened on a bridge so i couldn't pullover, couldn't see! i was very fortunate to have got off of road at end of bridge. Car only has 48,000 miles. Never had problems with lot higher mileage vehicles i have had, this is seriously dangerous, someone with lesser reflex and vision would have had an accident and maybe killed someone or them selves.
I had my wipers on because it was a rainy stormy night. When suddenly the driver side wiper flung completely to the left and stayed in an upright position and stopped working. I had thought something had hit my windshield then realized it didn't that my wiper had just stopped. The passenger side windshield wiper works just fine but the driver side one does not. I could not see. I was inches away from an accident had to pull to the side of the road
Wiper transmission has broken 3 times in the last 12 monthscost of $500 so far and i have appointment at garage againi was driving out of the parking lot, wipers were working, then a clunk and wipers quit
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. While driving approximately 65 mph in the rain, the windshield wipers became completely inoperable. The contact pulled the vehicle over and waited for the rain to stop. The contact drove the vehicle to lima auto mall (2200 north cable road, lima, ohio 45807, (419) 993-6000), but it was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact and the dealer referenced an unknown part as a potential cause of the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 81,000.
Was traveling at 55 miles an hour in pouring rain, windshield wipers stopped working.was unable to see.took vehicle to chevrolet dealership who found that the wiper motor needed to be replaced.they charged me $328.00 to replace it.
While driving at highway speeds on a rainy afternoon, the windshield wiper arms went entirely to the left off the windshield. I pulled over, placed the windshield wipers at the resting position and attempted to get the wipers working again. I could hear the motor running but the wipers would not move from the resting position.

15789:windshield wiper motor failure.my windshield wipers stopped working in track while it was raining.it stopped in the up position on high and i could not drive or move because i could not see.turned the ignition off and on and replaced a fuse and the wipers still do not work.this happened after i picked my kids up from school in rush hour traffic.after researching i see that this has happened to lots of people. I called the chevy hotline for bulletin #15789 and was informed that even though this recall is relating to the same issue i am having my car was not included in the recall.this after i just spent over 850 in maintenance on a car that is only 4 years old and just over 50k miles.if its the same issue its an issue and my vehicle needs to be covered.
I have a 2014 equinox. Our wiper transmission failed when we were driving in town at dusk in the rain 2 days ago.i see that this was an issue with the 2013model year, and there is a recall to address it. I am skeptical that substantial changes were made, and hope you will investigate my concern to see if it's a widespread problem. It's clearly a safety concern, and not an inexpensive fix. Of note, although i live in a coastal area so the salt air can cause premature corrosion, i have never had this issue with a previous vehicle.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. While driving the vehicle, the windshield wipers failed to operate. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was 116,544.
While driving with windshield wipers on wipers stopped working. The first occurrence happened november 2019. It happened again august 2021.
I was driving on the highway when the wipers quit with the left wiper right in my line of vision.i tried turning them off and on and had to stop at a gas station because it was pouring rain at the time.i turned off the engine and restarted the wipers with no luck. I had to continue to my destination in pouring rain with no wipers.i was very fortunate to make it without a crash taking place.i had to take the vehicle in for repair of the wipers at champion chevrolet in the amount of $385.45.now i have learned this should have been part of a recall. Can you help me with reimbursement? thank you very much.
Windshield wiper stopped working during a rain storm while driving on interstate.linkage came apart.
Was driving in the rain. Wipers slung to the left side of windshield and stopped working. Had to pull off highway till it quit raining.
The windshield wipers stopped working while i was driving on the turnpike in the rain.the bushing on the linkage at the wiper motor broke apart.
Wipers stopped working while driving on the highway in heavy rain. Wiper motor could be heard still working. Replacing the fuse had no effect. Big safety issue, with plenty of complaints on record for the same thing.
While i was driving on the thruway there was a rain storm and my wipers were working, then all of a sudden, the wipers stopped working and i couldn't see a thing in front of me. I had to determine where i could pull off to the side and hoped the spot was safe enough. I put on my four way flashers so i could be seen by other drivers. It was the scariest thing i ever experienced in all my years of driving. Why would the wipers just stop working!!
Purchased our 2014 chevy equinox in october 2013. In november 2016 while my teenage daughter was driving during a rain storm the front windshield wipers stopped working. She had to quickly pull over to the side of the road since she had no visibility at the time. She sat in the car in a dangerous spot until i could get there and drive her home. We left the car until it stopped raining and then went back to get the car. I understand that this is a known issue with the chevy equinox 2013 model. I took my car to the dealership where i bought it and they said the wiper transmission had failed due to corrosion. They replaced the part for me at a cost of $473 dollars.
Wipers suddenly stopped working in a snow/sleet storm while driving, wiper motor still running, wiper transmission broken.lucky no one was seriously hurt. Wiper transmission should be recalled as this is a very serious defect.
I was driving down a highway in the pouring rain.all of a sudden my wipers stopped working and put me in a very bad situation. Luckily i was able to get off the road and into a parking lot.i began checking the fuses to see if it was that.after confirming they were fine, i began looking up the issue online.i have found that there was a recall for the 2013 model for the wiper transmission.i also found that several people have had the same issue with the 2014 model.sure enough, when i got the car to the shop, they confirmed the issue.$240 dollars to fix the issue that several other owners have had.i feel this issue needs to be looked into before somebody gets hurt.
While driving in the rain on a 2 lane local road, while the wipers were in use, they stopped working in mid-swipe. I heard a sound when this happened. Both wipers were stuck and inoperable in the middle of the windshield. After stopping, i was able to move the wipers to the full down position, but only with some effort. The rear wiper works fine. There is no function at all on the front wipers. The fluid spray is still functioning, but the wipers will not move. I am dismayed to see that chevrolet is very aware of this problem, and has a multi-year recall for this very issue in canada, but only has a recall on model year 2013 in the us.mine is a 2014 with 79,000 miles. Even my local auto service shop is familiar with the issue of the rod corroding and breaking, thus rendering the wipers inoperable and leaving drivers in a life-threatening situation, as this problem only occurs as we are using the wipers inclement weather. Every driver on the road should be concerned.
Windshield wipers stop working in a heavy downpour while at normal wiper speed. Dealer is wanting to charge 400 for as they stated is common problem with the vehicle because the plastic housing on the wiper transmission arm just breaks
I was driving home during a rainstorm and my windshield wipers just randomly stopped and i could not see i have zero visibility i put my hazard lights on and attempted to drive home at 9 pm at night in the dark with no working wipers
Bought the car in april 2017 63000 miles, windshield whipers motor went out feb 2018. I was driving in the rain and they stopped while driving the highway. Had to pull over and wait till it stopped. Went to the dealer ship service center was informed the motor went out.
My wipers stopped working in the middle of a downpour.i took my car to be fixed and was told that the ball bearing in the wipers was completely worn out.i got that fixed.now 1 month later the exact same thing happened.i read that there was a recall on 2013 and older.i think there needs to be a wider recall to fix this problem.
Wipers stopped working during rainstorm in construction zone on i-76 westbound east of akron. My wife got in a near accident because she could not see and had to pull off the side of the highway waiting for the rain to stop. Went on-line to see this is a constant problem. Had to buy the linkage at the dealer and the parts guy said that this part is in stock because it is common to be replaced.
Driving in inclement weather on a major us highway(rt.93) at 65mph my wipers suddenly stopped working forcing me to navigate to the breakdown lane .my vision was practically zero due to the lack of wipers
It was pouring down rain and i was driving 70 mph on the 4 lane & the next thing i knew the windshield wiper blades went all the way over on the driver's side. Freaked me out. Finally got pulled over on a safe area.my husband got out & checked the windshield wipers they will move manually but not if you turn them on from in the car. This is terrible and actually can be deadly.
Driving on freeway in pouring rain in the dark. When wipers stoped mid stroke. This happened today 12/16/2020. I pulled the vehicle over to the side of the freeway and had to be towed. I will diagnose later. Luckily no accident. Not good to have wipers stop working
Wipers were in operation during a heavy thunderstorm and they just stopped. Visibility was zero and traffic was heavy. Fuses were checked and that was not the issue.
2014 chevy equinox 2lt sunday afternoon: driving down rd w heavy traffic and construction zone with my 11yr old and her bff. All of a sudden tropical storm unleashed heavy rain. I turn on wipers and within a few minutes boom...wipers hyperextend and stop working. I cannot see 2 ft in front of me w 2 children in car. Long story short, i was lucky and did not kill or injure anyone. I pull over and can hear wiper motor is running so i turn off and reposition wipers on windshield (my driver side wiper was extended beyond windshield and passenger was half across driver side). Turn on wipers and nothing...no wipers but continueto hear wiper motor. I begin searching online and see this is a known safety issue and i had not been notified. I contacted the dealership monday morning as soon as they open. 4 dealerships cannot service known safety issue for 7 calendar days and im told not a recall on my vin. I contact gm and was informed this is a known safety issue. Chevy equinox owners should have been notified by mail december 2019!!!! i asked why i had not been notified and gm rep states its the dmv responsibility and i needed to update my info w dmv. I informed rep same address since 2006 and received all registrations via mail at the address since i purchased vehicle. I am mortified i and all others are not being notified.i was lucky and everyone safe. However, what if we were not so lucky?please any/all search : n192266180 front wiper transmission arm linkage failure. This is pdf that i received via live chat w gm. Please read in its entirety. Problem must be confirmed by diagnostic testing or else will not be covered. Just left dealership with repairs made free of charge.however, thats another hassle as they attempted to blow me off. Per attorney, i had taken my vehicle to 2 private owned mechanics and had diagnostic reports in hand. Gm delayed my repairs for 10 days knowing it is a confirmed safety hazard. Memo is marked urgent distribute immediately on 12/17/19
I was driving in a heavy rainstorm when my wipers stopped working abruptly. I was driving down a steep winding mountain road when this occurred. I could hear the wiper motor still running so i knew it was not a bad fuse. My husband checked when i got home and he said it looked as if the wiper had come off of the mechanism it was supposed to be attached to. I am taking it to my mechanic tomorrow, as i see there is no recall for this issue yet.
Driving west on i-40 near knoxville, tn during a heavy rain shower & windshield wipers stopped working. I was in the left lane, no shoulder to pull into. I put on my hazard lights & was able to get across the two lanes of traffic, visibility lousy, & pull onto the right shoulder to wait out the shower. Onstar provided the location & directions to the nearest advanced auto. Wipers couldn't be fixed, fuse & relay were good. Luckily the store manages suggested rainx & helped apply it. I continued my trip home to chesapeake, virginia & ran into rain again around yorktown. Tense driving from then on. Took car to repair shop appointment on thursday, 8/5, & they said the transmission of the wiper assembly was bad. $466.53 to fix. There is a recall for wipers on the 2013 & 2015 equinox, why not expand it to include 2014? original gm dealership where i bought the car is no longer in business so had to go to an independent repair shop. Unable to resize receipt & attach.
During heavy rain with poor visibility windshield wipers stopped at top of stroke and did not move any further. I had to stop at a busy intersection no longer able to safety perform a left hand turn onto a divided highway across two lanes of traffic, i had to put on hazard lights and turn right from a left hand only turn lane due to being unable to see out of front windshield but only able to see traffic from door window. Wiper motor made noises but blades did not move. Was forced to wait approximately 30 minutes until rain stopped to proceed to mechanics shop. This occurred at the intersection of topside drive and alcoa highway in knoxville, tennessee. I had my wife, 19 year old son, 12 year old niece, and 7 year old nephew in the vehicle. The failure of the wiper system occurred suddenly and without warning with no prior issues with wiper system. The vehicle is a 2014 chevrolet equinox with 104,000 miles.

Tire pressure sensor shows low pressure in tires , but when checked with several different hand gages and add air to desired pressure listed on door recommendation sticker sensor still shows the tire pressure is listing low by several lbs.in motion on road - highway - city st. / standing still / running or just with key on motor off. I asked mechanic to rotate my tires. They reported that a majority of lug nuts had deep cracks and metal was separating on the lug nuts. One lug nut on front passenger wheel was frozen on and sheared in half when attempted to remove. I had to take vehicle to chevrolet dealership. The dealer advised me that if i drove the car in that condition it would be impossible to change tire if i got a flat. On 12/18/2018 i returned to dealership and they recommended that i change all the lug nuts due to cracks. They also advised me that the wrench that came with the car would not fit the broken lug nut and it would have been impossible to change the tire on the road. The broke the stud in drilling out the lug nut. The total bill came to 6 hours labor $720,20 lug nuts $179.80, one stud $5.99 plus tax for $937 total. I believe their is safety issue with these lug nuts. They are made from two types of metal that with use appear to start to separate with large cracks in the chrome metal on the axis where the two metals appear to join.in my situation it would have posed a definite road hazard if i had attempted to remove the tire and the bolt sheared in half along the axis of where the metals joined.i would have been left in a situation where is was impossible to change the tire along the side of the road. The car would have had to be towed as a tow truck operator would have found it impossible to change the tire.
