I just purchased the vehicle 11-04-2019. The trunk pops open when i get in the car and sit down.there is also a problem when backing up to pull off and turning to the left or right, the car will start jerking and there's a popping sound.
8-speed automatic transmission 'bucks' and 'clunks' during acceleration or during up shifting.it does this either in full automatic or manual shifting mode.
Two brake rotors on 2018 corvette grand sport have permanent rust bands that do not wear off under braking.they are scoring and grooving the brake pads instead. Gm blames the dealer for poor maintenance but neither will replace because they say it's only 'cosmetic' according to them. They did advise me to replace the rotors myself at a cost of $4000 on a brand new car! it has had the band since day 1! when the car is washed or the rotor gets wet it fuses to the pads and locks the wheel.you have to rock the car get it to break loose.they keep referencing a gm service bulletin that prohibits dealers from replacing or resurfacing rusted rotors.this is not normal surface rust.it is permanent and is compromising the brake pads! this is definitely a safety concern.
The brakes have now four times failed to stop the vehicle. When pressed they get hard, then go down to the floor and there's a pulsating feeling. The vehicle just continues to go to the floor. On the third occasion that it happened, the vehicle in a non-emergency situation, would not stop in traffic and rear-ended another vehicle. It is dangerous and gm is no help.
I attended a two-day ncm track event at vir in june 2019. During the second session on day two my 2018 z06 had a power steering issue. Without any warning, i felt and heard a loud thump through the steering wheel as i approached turn 3 from no-name, i had very little steering ability that required heavy handed input on the steering wheel causing me to lift and brake to keep the car from running off the track. Then i received a dic message on the dash to 'service power steering gear.' i come in to let the car cool down and went back out later with no issues but was not running has hard as before. This power steering overheating issue is very concerning when on the track approaching a turn going 70 to 80 mph. The outside temp was 90 degrees and the cooling system was running around 240 degrees. There is a gm preliminary information about reduction in steering assist while driving on the track during hot days. Bulletin no.: pi1535b date: nov-2017 that requires to install a new power steering gear cooling duct for 2014-2018 chevrolet corvette.
Wheels cracked and bent at less than 3500 miles. Known problem within corvette community. Gm wont do anything about it.front bumper paint peeling off, where the bumper meets fenders. This is a known factory defect.
9-23-19 was told by discount tires that my rear wheel is bent, and there is crack on one of the front wheel.car is only 9200 miles.and gm won't cover it under their bumper to bumper warranty.

While traveling along 240 in memphis,tn i hit an unlevel piece of pavement. My speed was maybe 45 mph. While the car was at the dealer they said that i had 4 bend rims. Upon inspection of the wheels each wheel had been bent on the inside of the rims. This was causing the car to drive poorly and cause the steering wheel to vibrate.
At approximately 5700 miles on october 10, 2019, inflate tire alert came on indicating there was only 17 lbs of air in driver's rear tire. This was a drop of 13lbs pressure in 2 days. Upon inspection at local tire shop, it was revealed that the left (driver's) rear wheelhad two cracks near he tire bead sealing area on the inner side of the wheel, allowing air to slowly leak out of the tire.

My father ([xxx]) drove his 2018 corvette z06 (18k miles and still under chevrolet/gm manufacturer's factory warranty) to a doctor's appointment on april 11, 2019. Upon concluding his appointment and returning to his car, he noticed his tire pressure senor instrumentation indicated that one of his rear tires had low pressure. He immediately drove to the dealer (jn chevrolet - honolulu, hawaii) as he suspected he had a leak. Upon arriving at the dealership and having their service team looking at the tire, they discovered small cracks in the rear rim. There were/are no other signs of damage or impact. They also discovered that the other rear rim had similar cracks. The dealer said it was probably due to hitting potholes and it would not be covered under the warranty. We requested the warranty claim be escalated to gm. Gm responded (reference attached pdf) that it was not covered under the warranty. They failed to provide any reasons as to why it was not covered. I also personally elevated to gm and the verbally responded that it was considered normal wear and tear'not a warranty item. This seemed an odd response especially since there was no visible signs of damage and nothing to indicated there was impact to cause a crack.in reviewing other complaints, this seems to be a common safety issue and my sense is gm is not willing to address due to the scope of the problem. Hoping this report can be used to inform any ongoing discussions.thank you.[xxx]registered owner:[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
After only 15683mi the car has 2 bent and one cracked aluminum wheel.this was noticed today when after already having to put new tires on the car (15399 miles)theright rear was at 10psi.after taking the car to the shop to look at the issue an approx 3cm crack was noted on the innermost portion of the rim on the bead.
Rear oem wheels of have lip cracks and chevrolet will not honor new rims under the full factory warranty.they have stated that the rims have developed cracks from hitting pot holes.this is not correct because i have not hit any "potholes" or any other road imperfections that would cause all of these lip cracks.there are hundreds of the same complaints.this seems to be an ongoing issue with the wheels that are on the grand sport model.three dealerships have told me that i need to buy new rims at thousands of dollars.i paid $55,000 for a car that should not need new rims.the issue is that if i buy new oem rims, many other corvette owners have done this and the same cracks appear on the new replacement wheels.this is just wrong and chevrolet knows they have a problem yet fail to take ownership.very disappointing and frustrating to say the least.both wheels lost air pressure and one went completely flat.very dangerous to drive of defective wheels are expressway speeds.i went to many shops to get them repaired and no-one will even touch them!
My 2018 corvette zo6 upon inspection of the tire losing air, dealership found both right side wheels to be bent..theses are chrome aluminum wheels with 6,513 miles on the car.date of service was jun 4, 2019. I payed to have them repaired..next time, on sept. 17, 2019, tire was losing air.this time the dealership found the rim to be cracked..i then had to pay for a new rim.dealership doesn't stand behind there customers and neither does gm.absolutely a problem in the manufacturing..that happened with only 8716 miles on my car..
Corvette grand sport wheels have bent several times in normal driving conditions. Two wheels -1 front, 1-rear have been replaced by owner. The wheels seem to be not structurally strong enough for normal driving conditions
Drove approx 800 mi on interstate roads.parked car for 2 days, started car lo tire pressure light 23#.did not drive it, waiting to take to chevy dealer next morning as we were planning our return 800 mi trip back home.low tire pressure warning now at 20#,right rear passenger tire.go to hendrick chevy, charleston sc, approx 1 mi from hotel.they come back and tell us nothing wrong w/ tire, the inside of the rim is cracked.less than 5500 miles on 2018 gs; black rims.ordered new rim to be shipped in.bringing damaged rim back to in to show to dealer where we purchased car from, ed martin chevrolet, anderson, in. To the best of our knowledge we did not hit any potholes or road debris on the drive down.low tire pressure light did not come on at any time during the 2 days of driving the 800 mile trip from in to sc.the car was parked at the hotel on the evening of 5/19 and was not moved or started until the evening of 5/14 when we were packing up in anticipation of heading home on 5/15. That is the first time the light came on dash and onstar sent a message to our phones & emails. Car is in shop now, expected to be replaced late today; will take pics of the rim w/ crack.
At 21,000 miles, i have now replaced 3 rear wheels due to cracking. These are the stock wheels. I am a frequent freeway and surface road driver.
I started feeling vibrations in dec 2018, took it to a local dealership and the dealership told me that one of my rims is bent...took it to another dealership june 2019 and that dealership confirmed that the rims were cracked...finally july 2020 i purchased four new tires and that's when it was discovered that my two front rims are bent and the two rear rims have cracks in them. Gm will not replace the defective rims, so i ended up purchasing new rims.
Bought the car april 7th 2018 within 500 miles noticed a bad vibration, returned to the dealer and they kept it for a month discovering the left rear wheel was out of round /bent with no visible damage. They replaced it at no charge because it was within a week of delivery. A couple of months later the car at around 4000 miles developed another bad vibration. I took it to tire discounters which was much closer than the dealership and they told me both left side wheels were out of round with no visible damage. The dealership will not replace these due to the miles on the car. I know people with these grand sport and z06 corvettes that have had these same issues with the wheels. The corvette forums are full of similar stories. These wheels are too weak for these cars and need to be replaced
I had my tires changed out at less than 16,000 miles!!about 2 weeks ago and 4,000 miles later my tps let me know i was losing tire pressure in my rear passenger side.i monitored it and realized i was losing about 5 psi per week.i have the road hazard warranty so i took it back to my tire guy.after pulling the wheel and tire off, they sprayed some soapy water on it.they found two cracks on the inner lip of the rim.the cracks are about 3 inches in length going from the inner lip heading out.the cracks are about 10 inches apart from each other.
While driving at highway speeds, noticed vibration that appeared to be coming from wheels.scheduled appointment with classic chevrolet grapevine tx.was advised by service department that all four wheels were bent.wheels has no visible damage however, the wheels are bent.vehicle only had around 8500 miles when i noticed the issue.made contact with chevrolet consumer affairs regarding issue.was advised issue not covered under warranty.chevrolet offered 750.00 voucher for the purchase of accessories.i am aware of the class action lawsuit being filed in california regarding the same issues on the corvette grand sport (which i have) and the corvette zo6.
After driving on normal road conditions city and highway i noticed my tire pressure to be dropping after taking it to the dealership they informed me that the wheel/rim was cracked.
After driving the vehicle from kentucky to florida the following day i recieved an alert on my phone saying my right front tire was flat. After examining the tire and wheel i discovered a significant crack on the inboard side of the rim. I took the vehicle to dale earnhardt jr chevrolet in tallahassee fl. After inspecting the wheel they would not cover the damage as a defective wheel. I've owned this vehicle almost 2 years and has 15,000 miles. This will be the 2nd wheel that has cracked and and 3 that has bent. Gm refused to cover any of them. The first wheel bent within 500 miles of purchase, the dealer bought that replacement wheel. I purchased an extra wheel and tire warranty after that and they paid for 2 bent and i cracked wheel. I believe they too now know these z06/grand sport wheels are defective and are refusing to pay for this currently cracked wheel. This rim was cracked during my drive from kentucky to florida causing the flat tire. One day this issue is going to cause someone to have an accident and gm won't do anything about it.
Failure was the right rear wheel cracked in two places causing tire to go flat on highway . A flat tire could cause the vehicle to go out of control in traffic resultion in a serious accident causing injury or death dealer bob huff chevolet of wrythville va diagnosed and confirmed the problem and initially walmart tire and service attempted to diagnose and fix the tire thinking a nail had beenj picked up causing a air leak but discovered the cracked wheel in two places causing air loss wrs . A new wheel was ordered by bob huff chevy and installed by them. Gm is well aware of the cracked wheels and refuse to do anything about it calling the bad wheels a result of road hazards and potholes etc. When the tire loses air the low tire warning light comes on and more air must be installed but as i was stranded on easter saturday and sunday waiting too order a new wheel making it impossible to travel as i could only get about 25 miles after putting additional air in the tire.
Deiver rear wheel began loaing air pressure suddenly 1 week ago. Tire pressure would drop around 1 psi/hour. Took to tire shop and no tire problems were identified but the wheel had 3 cracks in the inner wheel lip. Inspection of passenger rear wheel revealed a single crack that had not yet caused tire pressure loss. The wheel cracking issue is well known and a class action lawsuit has been filed but no recall yet. I fear that my safety could have been in jeopardy with a wheel cracking at speed. Problem first identified when starting a stationary vehicle as the tpms notified of a low pressure. Problem continued until i section of wheels identified cracks.
Vehicle was at highway speed when dash indicator showed that the passenger rear tire was rapidly losing air pressure.car was taken to the local chevrolet dealership where their technician discovered that the passenger rear wheel was cracked.the crack was not due to striking road debris or a pothole.the vehicle has not been in an accident.the dealer refused to acknowledge that the cost of a replacement wheel should have been covered as part of the vehicle warranty because of a manufacturer's defect.
While getting new tires installed, the technician noticed one of my wheels was cracked.i had not hit any potholes or anything that would cause major stress to the wheel.if i had not needed new tires, the crack likely wouldn't have been found until it catastrophically failed.
4 cracks in rear wheel.2nd occurance
Hi, i have a 2018 corvette (grand sport). I have aprox 8000 miles and brought in for service to a local gm dealer(bill buck chevrolet). They told me one of my rear wheels is bent. They also told me they can't get me a replacement (they don't know why) and my car has been there for two weeks. I have a case open with gm, but so far have not received any help from them. I am shocked that my wheel is bent as there are no pot holes around and i only drive around town and do not race or ever ran over anything, etc. I have heard a lot of other corvette owners complain about their wheels bent or cracked as well, so feel this is a major safety issue. I felt the need to make sure you are aware of this. Thank you.
Moving at 55 mph on highway and hit a slight bump in the road causing the rear passenger side rim to crack.
07/08/19 ' i took the vehicle to coggin chevrolet at 10,053 miles for a problem right rear tire going flat. They could find no problem.09/17/19 ' took vehicle to tires plus in ponte vedra fl to analyze why passenger side rear tire is losing air at a rapid pace. It lost 34 lbs. Of air in 10 days. They advised that the wheel was cracked.09/19/19 - i just received a call at 3:18 p.m. From melanie vergotz, service advisor, coggin chevrolet. She says gm refuses to fix the wheels (there are now 2 with cracks and are bent, (the right front and rear). Gm claims the damage is a result of impact. That's what i figured they would say. I told the service advisor that she should inform the service manager that they are telling me i must drive an unsafe vehicle. I have never, never, hit a pothole or any road condition that would cause these wheels to be damaged.
I have owned the car since new when it was purchased in the spring of 2019. Since this time, i have driven the car approximately 11000 issue free miles. As of 2 weeks ago, i had all four tires replaced at a chevy dealership. A few days after, i noted that there was a slow tire pressure leak in the rear passenger side tire. Upon taking it to the dealership today to have it looked at, it was discovered that there were 2 large cracks in that wheel, causing the leak. Because of this, we inspected the remaining 3 wheels to find that the other rear wheel also had a crack. There has never been any impact to the wheels (potholes, debris impact, etc.), that would have ever indicated to me to check for damage. This appears to be a workmanship issue from chevrolet that could have severe safety implications if it were to tail catastrophically at speed.
Two separate wheels have now cracked or warped on the vehicle at no fault of my own. This is happening in normal driving conditions (commuting) without any accident, severe pot-holes, or impact damage. It appears that gm has known about this for some time, as the technician at the dealership informed me that "that's just the way these cars are, expect to replace a lot of rims". When it happens, you can either gradually or suddenly lose complete air pressure in your wheel. That is dangerous. My vehicle has less than 10k miles with two cracked rims. Cost $800 each, and gm refuses to cover it under warranty.
Rear wheel bent/cracked. Dealer/chevy blames the roads and won't cover under warranty.
The rim cracked several months after purchasing it. It's well known this model has been identified with this problem. The replacement was costly. 2018 grand sport, while traveling on the interstate my tire loss pressure and i had to make and emergency exit after being alerted by the vehicle.
While on a road trip noticed a vibration through steering wheel. Took into dealer for diagnosis. All 4 wheels were bent. 2018 corvette grand sport 4,450 miles.
Noticed that rear tire was leaking air. Checked for nail or other object in tire. The dealership found that the rear wheels were cracked and losing air. Pics sent to gm who refused to repair. I then had them welded in an effort to fix the problem. Still losing air. I have the repair invoice.
Cracked left rear inside rim noticed after tire pressure monitor system indicated low tire.
The contact owns a 2018 chevrolet corvette equipped with satin black wheels w/ colored stripe - 19x8.5/20x10. The contact stated that when he was driving at various speed the vehicle felt that the passenger tire was flat. The contact got out the vehicle looked at the passenger tire and seen the rim cracked. The vehicle was taken to the dealer horne auto center 651 w deuce of clubs, show low, az 85901. Was contacted and confirmed that no recalls was under the vin. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle then was taken to an independent mechanic where the rim was replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The mileage was approximately 25,000.
Both rear rims (wheels) cracked, resulting in repeated loss of tire pressure.discovered at 13,500 miles, still under bumper to bumper warranty, gm declines warranty coverage stating it must have occurred from a road hazard.corvette forums discuss multiple 2018 grand sports with similar cracked rims.documentation from dealer available on request.
4 bent and cracked rims under normal driving conditions. Gm refused to replace under warranty.
I purchased my 20018 corvette z06 in december of 2020 and because this was a very expensive vehicle i also purchased an extended 6 year bumper to bumper warranty.i drove car off the lot and drove it for a very brief period of time and discovered that there was a slow leak in the driver rear tire and took it to be repaid and the discount tire company said that it was cracked with a failing repair.i then looked took it back to the dealership to report this unsafe situation and they informed they couldn't cover under any of my warranties and that it was a manufacturer issue not theirs i also took off all 4 wheels to see if others were cracked and 1 additional front passenger tire was cracked and repaired so i have 2 that are unsafe to drive on.i also contacted chevrolet consumer affairs who after a month finally got back to me to say that it is the roads not the wheels so they are not covering this issue unless and until a lawsuit is successful in creating a recall campaign. With that said am looking to join a lawsuit because i have an unsafe vehicle to drive with that gm knowingly is continuing to deny and someone may lose their life by crashing after a blowout that most likely could have been prevented by gm stepping up and taking accountability for selling us faulty cast wheels.
