Driver's side air bag dash warning light illuminated. *itr

Starting on or around august 2011 my air bag light comes on. It has come on and off intermittently since then. The fix is to jiggle the connector under the seat and then zip tie it.that normally last about 6 months or more but it always comes back. I am concerned that my air bag will not deploy in a severe frontal impact. The dealer is well aware of this problem and says it is something i am going live with. The problem i have with that is i am afraid it might be something i am going to have to die with.

The air bag readiness light stays on intermittently with the frequency increasing. As of today, 08/15/14 it is on constantly.i have no idea if this is just a warning failure or if there is really a problem with the air bag system.

Wiring harness for drivers seat failed causing airbag system to be disabled.fails at start-up.strong fuel smell from driver's side.vehicle stationary.not cured by replacing gas gap and fuel pump.

Airbag sign stays on for no reason. When the car is in motion .

Airbag readiness red warning light on dash stays lit.cause appears to be faulty or loose wiring/connector underneath seat.

The contact owned a 2008 chevrolet corvette. While driving at approximately 63 mph, the contact's vehicle crashed into another vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy and the vehicle caught fire. The contact sustained a broken ankle, and internal and external injuries to the face and head that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.

The air bag light has gone on.....and off for many miles.

Air bag readiness light comes on intermittently on dash. Just purchased vehicle. Car is very low miles showroom condition. This issue happened when turning vehicle on. After further research this has been an issue with these cars for at least 10 years and gm chooses not to rectify problem. It can make car unsafe to drive.

The airbag readiness light comes on.this problem has previously been repaired by the dealer.a search of the corvette forum indicates this is a common problem with the 2005 to 2013 corvette.

Airbag light comes on due to faulty electrical connector underneath driver power seat. This is an extremely common issue that gm is aware of. There should be a recall by gm due to being a life safety system.

The air bag comes on at some higher speeds or hard acceleration.

After filling tank with gasoline there is a leak.the fumes from the leak are very strong in my garage, requiring me to ventilate the area to prevent an explosion. I do not overfill. The auto-turnoff at the pump won't allow that.apparently the leak is where the two tanks are connected.

Airbag light is on. Connector under drivers seat wiring is too short and wire bundle pulled with seat movement. Bundle frayed and one wire pulled out. The seat moves in and out every time i get into and out of the car. Owned the car since new and dealer had removed the seat for service several years ago, possibly reinstalled incorrectly.

Air bag warning light comes on intermittently.

Started my car after getting off work. Looked at my gauges before pulling out only to notice that my airbag indicator light staying lit. Turned the car on and off but the light continued to stay lit. Drove home with airbag light on. Upon further investigation on the internet.... There are a multitude of people with the same issues. The airbag light staying on appears to be caused via a faulty harness connection located under the seat. Seems that buick's (a gm built model car) have had the same issues but were recalled for the exact same thing. The fact that the airbag light is on means that the airbags will not deploy in an accident causing them to be useless and may lead to severe/fatal injury. Chevy is well aware regarding this issue because they have other model vehicles with the same seat harness configuration where recalls have been performed but has not done a recall on this safety feature on the corvette. This issue poses a sever safety hazard that requires immediate attention.

Driving along at 45mph and the airbag indicator light came on. It has been coming on intermediately for a while now...

I keep getting a red light on the dash saying the air bag is not active.i have found that by wiggling the connector under the driver's seat the light goes out. I suspect there is a bad connector and it never fails while i am at the dealership. The chevy dealership says their is no recall and they want at least $125 to strait checking.the chevy dealership says their is no recall and they want at least $125 to strait checking but they don't know of a fix.

The driver owned a 2008 chevrolet corvette. While driving at approximately 65 mph, the driver crashed into the rear of another vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. During the crash, the driver was ejected from the vehicle and suffered trauma to the head, a fractured right ankle, and various traumas to the body that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was unknown.

Air bag warning light came on. Fixed under warranty. Problem recurred on 10-2-12. Fixed by dealer.now coming on intermittently. Could be very serious issue if it not just an errant code problem.

Air bag light on instrument panel goes on and off . Came on yesterday then went off again . Seems like this may be caused by the seat moving to different positions. I contacted other people with this same style vehicle and they are having the same problem. All the dealer wants to do is change parts for a lot of money. With as many complaints they are getting this should be corrected. Light came on when car was started. The car has a memory seat that moves back when the driver exits the vehicle..

Smell gasoline from driver's side .change gas cap didn't help

When you drive for about 20 minutes, lights get hot and go off. They say it is the fusebox. Dealer will not cover by warranty. This is a dangerous safety issue.

Like many of the other complaints that have been filed the low beam head lights go out for no apparent reason.it appears that they go out when the car heats up but we don't know.this is a huge safety issue and it should be taken care of by the manufacturer.we have contacted the manufacturer and they won't do anything unless nhtsa tells them to.

The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet corvette. While driving low speeds, the brakes felt as if they applied automatically. The service anti-lock brakes, service active handling, and service traction control warning indicators illuminated. The dealer diagnosed that the rear passenger hub assembly sensor was defective and the entire assembly needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.

2008 new corvette had fuse block short, headlights would not go out and had no low beams. Had to pull fuse to get lights off. Sound related to current recall of 05-07 and some 08's. Issue would come and go and was fixed as soon as dealer could see problem.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

C6 corvettes have electrically operated doors so it is impossible to open a door when the battery is dead.having a dead battery, i placed the car in my driveway to jump start it. As i went to my truck to start it and connect the jumper cables the corvette began to slowly roll backwards - apparently the hand brake was not quite set enough (manual transmission).i was unable to open the door to apply the brakes or handbrake because of the lack of battery power.the car continued to roll backwards, accelerating, with me unable to hold or stop it.it rolled across the street, down my neighbor's driveway, and through his closed garage door coming to a stop at the rear of his garage with a heavy impact (over $11 thousand in damages). My neighbor's 2 small girls often play in that garage with the doors closed or in the driveway.if they had been playing or anyone or any vehicle had been in the street at that time there would likely have been one or more fatalities due to the runaway driver-less vehicle. Only luck prevented a serious accident with possible fatalities or serious injuries. This is obviously an unacceptable and unnecessary design defect for c6 corvettes (and possibly other vehicles with key-less entry and electrically operated doors).i believe that chevrolet should recall these vehicles and add a mechanical way to quickly open the door from the outside in event of a runaway situation (there is a mechanical backup if one is in the car or if one has the time to manually open the trunk - a slow procedure).

2008 c6 corvette with very low miles operates on keyless entry configuration. Today the doors unlocked and got into vehicle the normal way. The keyless start would not work, the doors would not unlock and open and it was over 125 degrees in the car. Kept trying until car started. Did not panic cause i new there is a way out . Can you imagine if i let somebody else drive and they don't know what to do? gm should fix this problem cause after looking it up on the web it look like this has been happening for a long time! there is an emergency release knob but this does not solve the car not starting or opening the hood! cant imagine what happens with electric top convertible. Lawsuit waiting to happen!

Brake issue: brakes would stay on until pressed. Cruise control would also not function while the brake lights were engaged. Pressing the brakes would cause the brake lights to turn off. Taking foot off brakes would cause brake lights to turn on.repaired by chevrolet for $450.electrical:starter has been replaced 11 times by firestone & chevrolet. Starter repeatedly stops working after 6 months of use (using original oem parts installed at full price by chevrolet).

I was driving my car on the street at night when the low-beam headlights suddenly went out.i pulled over and tried to turn them on again but they wouldn't work.i shut off the car and turned it on again and they still didn't work.i put on my high beams which worked and drove home.the next day i tested the headlights and they worked fine when the car was cool, but they stopped working when the car heated up.i checked the fuses and the relays and they were both fine.after some internet research on this issue, i traced the problem to a broken copper wire inside the fuse box.i replaced this wire and the low-beam headlights now operate the way they should.i think this is a potentially dangerous situation for anyone who is driving their corvette at night.

Electrical system fails, short circuits requiring bleed down of battery before relays reset themselvesnoted as an example, when using the accessory function while washing vehicle or maintenance after 1 to no more than 2 cycles the electrical system short circuits. When this occurs nothing works, transmission is frozen , hazards/headlights everything becomes inoperative, start/accessory switch become extremely hot to touch. Nothing electrical in the car is operational. Even have to use the emergency manual releases to exit vehiclemultiple (4) batteries have been replacedstranded at least 6 times where aaa or gm tow service had to come out. When tow services arrived attempted to boost start failed, nothing would work. The system bleeds down by the tow service sensors used. The tow services all noted that the system was bleeding down internally and apparently relays or other devices had shorted circuitedwhen the voltage reached approximately 5.4 volts remaining in battery, the electrical system reset itself ? and a cable boost was able to start the carwhen this occurs as noted even the transmission is locked out so the tow services could not place the vehicle in neutral to place on tow vehiclegm id's that when they moved electrical and battery to the engine compartment the heat buildup might be the culprit stressing electrical components and relaysgm also stated the corvette system demands heavy electrical loads. Don't use accessories or other draining devices standard in the car was their advicethis is an extreme safety hazard for when it occurs you become very vulnerable, even to the point where hazard warning lights don't operate. One time system shutdown occurred in joshua tree national forest drive. Over two hours in remote location, abandoned, no contact before the system would shunt itself and a boost start could occur

I was driving on the freeway at night on my way home around 11pmwhen my low beam lights went dark and would not turn back on.i've checked all the forums about this problem and it is happening a lot, but apparently gm wont include the 2008 vehicles even though ones like mine have the same equipment as earlier models with the same problems. A few days prior, my girlfriend was driving the car, and complained about the same problem, but i just thought it was because she didn't know how to operate the car. Once i get it fixed, how do i know the lights wont mysteriously go off again?! i'm very disappointed in all the electrical problems with this vehicle, and this is the last straw. (after only 38k miles the fuel tank gauge stopped working. At 60k miles the car was having issues with overheating because the fans wouldn't turn on. At 75k miles a clunking noise started coming from the differential. It's a stock car mind you. And now at 85k miles 2008, the headlights wont turn on. Gm simply won't stand behind the car, and so i've been left to figure it out on my own. So much for buying my dream car. It seems more like a nightmare.)

When car gets hot, the low beam lights will not turn on.there is an existing recall for corvette c6 models from 08-13.but there are none for corvette c6 z06 models from 08-13 even though the fusebox, headlight wiring is identical.

I understand that the nhtsa previously opened an investigation in 2013 regarding c6 corvette headlight (low beam) failures for years 2005-07. I file this claim because the production years are not limited to the years referenced. Hence, my 2008 is experiencing the same exact problem - low beam failures on roadways at night. I understand now from new research of my own that latter years are also impacted by the same issue. Although the daytime running lights are unaffected, they do not provide appropriate nighttime illumination. Using high beams are an undesirable alternative. Considering gm's long and pervasive history of shunning serious vehicular issues and complaints only until they reach a national scale (via national media or act of congress), and after contacting a local dealer last week, they have not accepted any responsibility to remedied whether it be under safety, technical bulletin, or recall. Having no trust whatsoever of gm or others like nissan, being too big to care, i am placing my trust in the nhtsa. Thank you.

The vehicles headlights would not come on or would come on and off intermittently while driving and/or parked.the vehicle was taken in for service and i was advised that their had been a fuse block short and the fuse block was replaced.

Low lights shut off and would not turn on manually. The high beams andfog lights would work but not the low beam lights. After setting all night the low beam lights work again. This is the second time this has happened in the last 30 days.

I've had repeated failures that have required multiple repairs1. Engine knocking- repeated repairs, upper end replaced knocking and engine roughness still there2. Transmission- failure of clutch plates, replaced problem not resolved, transmission slipping is increasing3. Electrical system failure: the electrical system completely shuts down, nothing operates even the hazard warning lights- this has occurred a minimum of 8 times. Relays, switches wiring battery get extremely hot until battery bleeds down. High potential for electrical fires and car cessation of operations have left us in perilous conditions on multiple occasions.

No high beam head lights.fuse did not blow, bulbs checked and are good, but will not light.had checked, and found short in wiring harness and fuse box.dealer will not repair.

An instance occurred where the battery leaked acid down past the battery tray and onto the wiring harnesses below. Subsequent corrosion of wirings within the harness (of which contain approximately forty individual wires), causing breaks and shorts in several creating a hazardous situation. A no start condition occurred resulting from the affected wires leading to the ecm as well as others contained in the harness. Either the battery tray should be modified to contain or route possible acid from leaking down past it or the fabrication of a liquid tight compartment be installed to contain the wiring harness itself.since the harness is no longer available from gm the chevrolet service technician spliced in numerous lengths of new wires to bypass the affected areas within the harness. Labor cost of approximately $3000 for the repair. There is currently no solution to prevent future occurrences of this issue. Thus making the vehicle unsafe to drive or house in proximity to people and their property.

My new (to me - second owner) 2008 corvette was stuck in park in a grocery store parking lot.i finally had to force it out and this damaged the shift assembly that had to be replaced at my expense.the problem is with the electronic module that is part of the shift assembly that controls the hold brake before starting. I found out after the fact that a number of corvette owners have had the same problem.

The list goes on and on. I get a check engine coolant error that the dealership can't diagnose. My car smells like fuel. Sometimes it smells foul coming from the ac. I get a tire flat warning when my tires are just fine. My brakes won't stop squeeling even after buying new rotars and pads. My headlights suffered from something called mazing in which the lights have tiny little cracks in them all over causing no way to drive at night due to poor visibility and the lights cost $1200 for just one meaning it would cost $2500 to get new lights put on a used car. This is just ridiculous. Gm knows what they did but didn't care to help me on the headlights.

Then headlights when on will completely go out as will the dash lights. After a minute or two the lights will come back on. It appears something under the hood is not and burning but i have never been unable to locate anything. About a year ago i took the vehicle to dealership and reported the problem. The service writer turned my lights off and on several times and advised he saw nothing wrong. Last week on a trip back from oklahoma i lost lighting once again. While i was traveling at 75mph i pulled off the road and after a few minutes the lights came back on. It was daylight so i could resume driving. This morning i called the dealership to discuss this issue with him since i had heard thru the lone star corvette club this was a recall problem. The service manager checked his computer and advised there was nothing about such an issue and he could therefore not do anything until a recall was made. He advised i should park the car and not drive it. I found his answer unacceptable.if this occurs with me at 75mph at night while in heavy traffic this could be a serious issue.

My 08 corvette has left me stranded 3 times, once on the freeway. The car quits pulling, service brakes and fuel sys. Lights come on. Thankfully i had time to get to the side of the road, but,it could be very dangerous.

I was driving on the highway when the low beam head lights suddenly went out. The car will continue to lose function of them after about 15-30 minutes of use. Once the car is parked over night they will regain use in the morning but then lose function again once the engine bay is warm.

There is a very strong gas smell inside the car but no obvious leaks. The car does not appear to be using gas faster than anticipated. It smells strongest on the drivers side. Research has shown many owners had a problem like this with the fuel tank or fuel line. There was no obvious moment this started or event that caused this problem. The car just started smelling like gas.

Vehicle may remain locked in park or not shift out of driving gears back to park. Very wide spread issue on this model.

We recently purchased the car and it is a convertible and we cant get the top working at all.we took it where we purchased it and they don't have a clue how to fix it.this is the second thing that was wrong. We got the fuel pump leak repaired.we cant enjoy the car if the top doesn't work.it doesn't make sense to pay for something if you cant enjoy it.

The battery on my corvette physically exploded when i tried to start it and literally blew part of the battery away and started a fire.it would have definitely killed me if i had the hood open and was inspecting the engine.the incident was reported to gm and today i received the acdelco generic form letter dated 25 september 2020 making the assumption that the battery was being charged for 8-years, make the assumption it was over charged and instruct me to go and buy an air freshener to get the acid smell out of my vehicle.as a proud and loyal gm vehicle owner for the past 50 years, i find your arrogant response to our complaint nothing less than disgusting and is not associated with a professional corporation like general motors.furthermore, making false claims and outright lying does not help the image of your company.one gets the impression that you are reading a general response from a q-card without any feeling or any intention to try and address the issue, never mind resolving the issue.provide us with the contact details of your department director to take it up directly with him.during our call today, 18 november 2020 your office was adamant that there is a very clear warning in the owners manual that states that a trickle charger should not be used and that you will send us a copy of the warning.we reviewed the gm email dated 18 november 2020 and it does not have any warning against using a trickle charger.in fact, the email received recommend using a trickle charger ' see below:----------------------------------------------------------------------------extended storage: remove the black, negative (−) cable from the battery or use a battery tricklecharger.---------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have actually been having this problem for a few months now and can not drive the car at night because of it. The low beams quit working after the car gets hot. When you first start the car they will work but after the car has ran for about 20 minutes or so the lights will not work. High beams and fog lamps work, but not the low beams. This is a safety issue that should be addressed and there should be a recall. Fuse blocks under the hood are not something that should break, they are not subject to regular wear and tear like other parts of the vehicle.

On this day, i was driving on the highway going about 100 mph (german autobahn) when the vehicle for no apparent reason decided to lock up the brakes. I also lost power steering. Luckily there were no cars around me. The "service active handling" sensor has been on and off since then and i am looking at getting it looked at tomorrow. I have just read forums of other 2005-2008 corvettes having this similar problem. Is there anything i can do about getting this car serviced? i am in germany and i have yet to find a corvette mechanic. Would appreciate any advice. Thank you

The key less entry and ignition sometimes will not let the car start it has happened several times a week they have replaced the keys , and reprogrammed it three times and the last time replaced the sensor in the dash board.

The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet corvette.the vehicle failed to start.the contact attempted to exit the vehicle, but the electronic keyless entry would not work.the contact and passengers were locked inside of the vehicle.he attempted to activate the onstar feature, but it also would not work.several dealers were notified, but none could provide assistance with exiting the vehicle.the contact and passengers were locked in the vehicle for 15 minutes.the failure and current mileages were less than 1,200. Updated 1/6/09 updated 01/14/09.

Gear shift release button locks and operator is unable to shift vehicle back into park or even reverse at times. Vehicle may also get stuck in reverse and not be able to go back into park nor drive. Issue has happened several times and makes vehicle undriveable due to this malfunction

Took car in for a diagnose gentleman said there was a recall for low beams so i said it was fine took car home 3 weeks later while i was on the highwaycars low beams went out after engine heats up went back to dealer and let them know the the situation and the went and checked the car turns out that now i have a faulty fuse box keep in mind i had car for 3 years and never had a low beam problem till the recall was preformed

Using accessories function, shorts electrical system out: with the car engine off, i turn on accessories, play the radio, etc. When the accessories ends its cycle and shuts-off the car will not start. The entire system shunts/shorts out, nothing operates until the battery is bled down. This has been a continuing problem

The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet corvette. When the vehicle was started, the air conditioning vents began to release a thick fog. The contact touched the stop button and exited the vehicle. The contact noticed that the passenger compartment was filled with a thick fog, which impaired visibility within the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who informed the contact that a battery cable was routed tightly under the air conditioning line, causing friction that rubbed through the air conditioning line. The tubing attached to the assembly and the protective sleeve were replaced to prevent future friction. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there was no recall involving the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 45,000.

Does someone have to die? our brand new 2008 base model corvette has lost power in the middle of the road, 5 times drivingto our home. The 4th time my husband was almost rear ended by a truck! first time we had the car a week.2nd time thedealer said it was the gas. We use chevron texaco. 4th time the liaison from chevy said that oil was getting into our gas from a bad ignition switch. Doesn't make since. 5th time was same day as 4th time.it drops from 45 to 10 and goes all the way down to 1st gear. The rpm goes up and down. It back fires! we have been taking it to the local chevy dealer in kingman az. The 4th time it happened my husband pulled over but didn't turn off the car, and waited forsomeone from the dealership to drive up and get in the car for a drive. It was idling up and down for about 15 min then idled fine. After hooking up a computer scanner to the car they started up the hill. They drove 2 miles 45 miles per hour, then it just dropped to 5 miles per hour surging back and forth. Making this the 5th time! foot was steady on the throttle. Husband was told to hold it to the floor, and then it back fired real loud and stopped completely in the middle of the road! turned off key opened and closed door to reset computer. Check engine light was on now. Drove down to dealer. It's been there 9 days so far this time. 7/23/08 the liaison from chevy called and said that our car does not meet the criteria for a buy back! we are fearful of being rear ended at a high speed! we've had to cancel trips we had planned to take in the car. We still don't have our car fixed, as they don't know what is wrong.no corvette tech has been on site to check out our car. Only buy phone! each time they have sent the car home stating that the problem was fixed, to go ahead and drive it. Someone is going to get killed if this car isn't fixed, as there is no warning that the car is going to jerk to a stop in the middle of the road!

The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet corvette.while driving 40 mph, the computer delayed the acceleration of the vehicle.the computer was not getting the messages at the right time.the dealer acknowledged the failure, but, according to specifications, stated that the failure was normal.the current mileage was 5,200 and failure mileage was 1,500.

I have a 2008 corvette coupe, base model with approximately 21,000 miles that i purchased new in april 2008. Recently on five different occasions i have had the following issues: 1) twice while going slow and turning, the "traction system active" message came on and the car / brakes stuttered. 2) this also happened twice while going slow and not turning. 3) once while going slow, the "active handling system" message came on with the same results as above. At all times the roads were dry, flat and normal paved roads. The car has now been brought to the dealer twice with no resolution. They said the car gave off no codes and they could not duplicate the problem. It is an intermittent problem so they cannot duplicate at will. My concern is that this will activate when i am driving faster, putting me in a dangerous situation.

Traveling at 45mph,right rear brake applied. Car veered to right and stability control light came on dic. Returned car to dealer, who had car for 20 days. Replaced ebcm, steering sensor, traction control switch, cleaned grounds and checked all connections. Car was delivered 100 miles to me with no problems. Car sat in garage for 7 days.on 12/27/2013 drove car approximately 7 miles. At 70 mph on interstate left rear brake applied jerking car to left. This is a 2008 corvette with 7500 miles. This sounds like a common problem that gm should find a cure for before lawsuits begin. Very dangerous at highway speeds.

My service active handling system warning came on abruptly. This the second time this happened in the last 2 years. The first incident was handled by my local dealer. Supposedly, it was a tsb which required replacing a clip at an electrical coupling. This was reportedly the solution to this problem. This most recent incident occurred 500 miles from home and has me worried that a serious malfunction of my braking system may occur. I do have an appointment for service on june 4 2012 for this recurring issue. There have been reports of abrupt and inadvertant braking occurring at highway speeds with loss of vehicle control.help would be appreciated.thank youinformation redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

Steering jerked, brakes applied for a second, cruise control turned off, no brake lights, and service active handling message appeared. Happend more than once.

At various speeds, the computer display panel reads, "service active handling system" accompanied by a swerving car icon and an alerting ding sound. The message comes on periodically, lasting up to 15 or 20 minutes at a time, then shutting off.sometimes upon starting the engine the message will appear and other times the message will be off for days at a time.it always reappears.over the years the brake light switch and brake sensors have been replaced (4/18/11; 10/8/11; 12/4/12) as well as replacement of the fob (12/18/12).although this display message has appeared numerous times over the years, the most recent occurrences are as follows: 5/1/13; 4/30/13; 4/25/13; 3/28/13; 10/30/12.two chevrolet dealerships have been unable to resolve this malfunction to date (5/2/13).since 10/30/12, this car has been seen six times for the same problem at two different chevrolet dealerships.there was a recall in 2005 for this problem: "steering recall 2005-2006""... In rare cases, repeated movement of the steering column may cause a signal interruption within the column.if this occurs, the message, "service active handling system" will appear... And one or more of the brakes may apply...".there have also been display messages on my car reading, "press brake to start engine", so this problem, in my mind, is related to the "active handling system" issue.

Service active handling system flashed on display and the active handling was automatically disengaged.this has now happened multiple times.

After filling tank with gasoline there is a leak.the fumes from the leak are very strong in my garage, requiring me to ventilate the area to prevent an explosion. I do not overfill. The auto-turnoff at the pump won't allow that.apparently the leak is where the two tanks are connected.

Service active handling system light comes on randomly, usually at low speeds (35mph or less) often or always preceded by abs triggering for no reason (just normal driving or braking without traction loss).it looks like this exact issue was recalled on older (but same generation, c6 corvette) vehicles, but not a covered issue on newer models.

Left rear brake was applied when driving over 60 mph causing car to slow down and slide to the left. Active handling on showed on dash of my 2008 corvette.

No high beam head lights.fuse did not blow, bulbs checked and are good, but will not light.had checked, and found short in wiring harness and fuse box.dealer will not repair.

Electronic stability control (traction control / active handling) system warning lights on.ref: nhtsa action number: pe08056

My 2008 chevrolet corvette just started a new issue that your dept is currently investigating. The "service active handling" came up on the display and the front right brake locked up for a few seconds at highway speed. After pulling over, a concerned driver behind me said that my brake lights had been and still are illuminated the whole time she was behind me (at least 5 miles) and do not go off until i turn the car off. I bought this car the end of march at mall chevrolet in cherry hill nj, and my primary local chevrolet dealer is reedman-toll in langhorne pa. There is nothing listed in the carfax or autocheck history for any recall work done or even any open recalls. This is obviously a quite common issue with serious safety repercussions. I am an active member of the corvette forums and this is a topic that has been talked about in numerous threads:http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-tech-performance/2336065-service-active-handling-consumer-action.htmlhttp://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-tech-performance/3234567-service-active-handling-system.htmlhttp://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-corvette-general-discussion/3270586-service-active-handling-and-wheel-lockup.htmlhttp://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-z06-discussion/3109818-08-z-brake-lights-stay-on.htmlhttp://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-tech-performance/3190509-2008-c6-having-rear-brake-light-issues.htmlif you do a search of the forums you will find many more of the same issues with the same cars.please feel free to contact me at your earliest convienance.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Car did not respond to steering on a turn at moderate speed ( 15-20 mph) on slippery road surface. The turn was tight and nearly a reverse in direction. I approached the turn in rainy conditions traveling at 25 mph anticipating the turn, lifted my foot off of the accelerator. The car went straight. I informed state farm insurance, volunteering approval to examine the on board computer. I also contacted gm corporation. State farm claim no. [xxx]. I am writing you regarding a serious safety concern regarding my 2008 chevrolet corvette.for many months now i have had a "service traction control light? appear on the driver information center (dic) screen.while the warning is displayed, my traction control system becomes disabled as is evidenced by the icon showing the vehicle skidding.i have been returning my vehicle to two separate chevrolet dealers for service, but no matter what they do, the problem keeps returning.right now i can't drive my vehicle for more than a few miles before the problem occurs.this is a serious safety concern, because i'm afraid that i am going to lose control of the car.i have a full general motors warranty on the vehicle, so this is not a matter of my not being covered for the necessary repairs.please help.

I and other corvette owners are having the same issue as the most recent recall of other gm models.my brake lights will constantly be on.the active handling warning light will continue to show on dash and cruise control will disengaged and reengage on its own.the fix seems to be replacing the body control module.i have replaced the brake sensor and that did not fix the issue.after reading blogs i located other corvette owners experiencing the same issues as i.http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-corvette-general-discussion/3016191-service-active-handling-brake-light-issues.html------http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-corvette-general-discussion/3458738-brake-lights-stay-on-while-driving.html------i recently contacted gm and expressed my concern as i believe the c6 corvette should have been included in the recall.my car has spent weeks at autonation chevrolet in alpharetta, ga until i took it back from them and brought it to a corvette dealer in atlanta, ga to replace the bcm and hope to fix the issue for now.

On october 10, 2020. I was drag racing my 2008 corvette (that i drive daily on the public roads) at the local track as i have been all this season and part of last year's too after acquiring the car mid 2019. I have been drag racing for the better part of 40 years. I am saying this to alleviate any possible thoughts of rookie moves on my part on the track, etc. The local track is an nhra sanctioned track that takes safety very seriously and their track prep is second to none, especially at this particular event, that is attended by hundreds of racers from many states.i staged my car in the right lane of the track with "competition mode" engaged, as i have every time in the past. The car launched straight and true as it normally does. The run was completely normal and straight until after crossing the quarter mile finish line, when i let off the gas, the car made an immediate hook to the right, directly into the concrete retaining wall. I bounced off that wall, crossing the path of my opponent in the left lane, in a near collision, bouncing off the left wall, and then back over again into the right wall. I was able to get out of the car on my own.i was completely stunned, because at the time i had absolutely no idea what caused any of this. Nothing made sense. By the time you cross the finish line, unless there's something on the track, loss of traction is highly unlikely. In my own investigation i ran across muliple events of this particular make and model that has had active handling issues the only thing that makes sense to me that could have caused this type of action would probably have been a heavy braking of the right rear wheel. My son recorded this pass and accident on his phone and it shows the car turning right before any brake lights come on. Any help or information you can supply would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Engine started making noise, feeling there could be a failure i drove to my servicing chevrolet dealer.they listened to the engine and said, that's normal.not trusting that judgment, i had an independent shop inspect the engine, and had the valve issue resolved at my expense.i was still under extended warranty, which made me angry. But if the dealer says there is noting wrong, what am i supposed to do?after the repair was performed at my expense, i took the failing parts back to the dealer for them to inspect.they admitted they were wrong, but what good did that do me?keep in mind my vehiclehad less than 10k miles on it.this is where i feel safety comes into play; had my engine failed and locked up on todays crowed interstates, i could have caused a major accident.the failures i have read about, gave no warning, when the engine let-go.

All exhaust valves out of specification at 9,500 miles; 6 of 8 intake valve guides out of specification; spent $1,200 for cylinder head removal and reinstall; valve job, new valve guides and assembly.

The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet corvette. The contact stated while driving 30 mph, when "disable ride service control" message was displayed as the steering wheel seized. The contact stated she lost control of the vehicle, spun around and colliding with a parked vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle left the ground as there was no visible skid marks on the roadway. The air bags did deployed. The contact mention that previously the 'service ride control' message displayed as well as 'ignition switch' as vehicle last all power. The contact sustained lower back, whole left side and right knee was injured which required medical attention.a police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The contact stated that the vehicle was a total loss. The vehicle has not been inspected by a dealer or an independent mechanic as of yet. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 59,902.

The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet corvette. The contact stated that while driving at 50 mph smoke emitted from the exhaust of the vehicle. The vehicle lost power and stalled. The vehicle was towed to watson chevrolet located at 625 west auto mall drive, tucson az, 85705, (520)329-4097 to be inspected. The contact was informed that the vehicle experienced engine failure with a connecting rod going through the side of the engine block. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced or repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 56,000.

Wear issue is with the valve guides in the cylinder heads. If the issue was not addressed, the hollow, sodium filled exhaust valve could break and destroy the engine.the repairs were made before the car had an engine failure while driving.mileage on the car was around 32,000.

The car had an oil pump failure in july (zero oil pressure in the engine), after which it was towed to an independent shop who is currently replacing the oil pump and verifying that no damage was done to the engine for a cost of about $2000. Upon investigation on my part, gm has known that oil pumps can fail on not only my car but any car with a "generation 4" v8 including a 6th generation corvettes. They have released to their dealers document pip4158g stating this. I think personally that this is a safety issue and there should be a recall, but at the very least gm should have to pay for any service work done because of this "known" issue. I refuse to take my car to a gm dealer, due to the past treatment of my car by dealers (they are careless) and so gm will do nothing as they say "it can't be diagnosed by anyone but a gm dealer."that's hogwash

Engine began to rattle and i stopped to check but saw no visual problems. Next day had it shipped to mechanic to check and found that valves, guides and stems were out of spec. Stated that this was a problem with heads from ls7 engines. Piece of junk he called them but i chose to disagree thats why im writing this complaint because i believe in gm. 50 years loyal gm owner and my dad was and still drives gms (70 years).

I just had my mandated 08 c6 emissions recall done. Now while in drive at a stop light, the steering wheel vibrates, along with parts of the drivers door and the center console. It is the new resonance from the mid cats and rpm idle change. Plus i drove it 60 miles, then took temp readings with a laser temp gun...my right pant leg was at 95 degrees, and the seat belt plastic attachment was at 115 degrees. I then measured the temp inside the center console...140 degrees. Also on average, the engine is running 10 to 15 degrees hotter(due to more back pressure and the leaning of the air fuel mixture) when i parked it in the garage and got out...you could feel a strong wave of heat coming from under the car. The dealership that i took it to agrees with my conclusions. However, gm corporate is not helping me to resolve these issues.

I was concerned about excessive valve train noise and after reading several corvette forum threads about improperly machined heads by gm's supplier linamar, and that numerous vehicles have had valves drop and ruin the engines, loosing a valve while driving will result in loss of power assist for steering and breaking while on the road .i took my car with 13500 miles on it to a corvette specialty shop to have my valve guide clearance tested. I had (8) exhaust valve guide and(3) intake valve guides outside of service specifications, and a combination of (5) other intake valve guides at or near the maximum outside of service specifications. The car is being repaired with proper re-machining of the heads to make the valve guides concentric, new intake and exhaust valve guides installed, as well as new seals, valves, springs, etc.i can provide data on the failed guides for documentation88% of the corvette forum members who have had their cylinder heads tested for excessive valve guide wear, were out of service specifications. Source: http://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/...-registry.htmlgm needs to issue a recall on this issue, there have been numerous engine failures as a result of a dropped valve into a cylinder which can cause accidents and fires. Gm is very aware of this issue, but refuses to do anything about this huge safety risk to drivers, passengers, and nearby vehicles if the engine fails going down the road.

The vehicle dropped a cylinder head valve and was fixed under original factory warranty in 2012. It was fixed by the dealer using factory parts. It was on the freeway and the motor lost almost all power. I had to get towed. It happened again in 2016 after 20,000 miles and religious oil changes. This car was maintained meticulously. They cylinders were found to be at fault of destroying an exhaust valve both times.additionally, the number 8 cylinder was found to be consuming oil, which destroyed my catalytic converter. This is all with a vehicle which had under 40,000 miles (within powertrain mileage warranty, but expired duration warranty)

While driving on highway in 5th gear #5 exhaust valve dropped into the cylinder going through the piston and causing connecting rod to go through side of the block. Engine seized and caused the car to go into a 65 mph spin. Luckily this occurred late at night on a open 4 lane highway with little traffic. I nearly clipped an oncoming pickup truck but squeaked by him. The car had 32,000 miles on it but out of warranty because of the years. Total cost for this ls7 replacement cost me 18,000 out of pocket. I hardly even drive the car because i'm afraid of it happening again. I'm reluctant to sell it because of the valve issue happening to potential buyer and them coming after me for the failure. Gm needs to correct this problem before someone gets killed like i could have been that night.

Engine knock on 6.2 liter engine. When the vehicle sits a knocking occurs in the engine upon startup. It is not a lifter knock, but a knock deeper in the enginegm has noted the problem and made multiple repairs (6+)cam shaft changed but no lifters. Thought this was odd as the wearing surfaces are now dissimilar .gm said this is all they authorized. Knock still presentgm then removed upper end of engine. Noted extreme carbon build up on multiple pistons. One piston had so much building apparently close to valves hitting.gm tech advised engine replacement, gm authorized cleaning of pistons: guess what, knock still presentthe knocking is apiston or lower end knock. Similar to wrist pins or rod bearing caps or bearings. When knocking occurs engine is rough and pulsates. Time ranges from 30 seconds to couple of minutesafter multiple gm repairs knock is still present, noticed engine performance is not the same and with lack of stability fuel economy has dropped

That night i was driving on the highway at 70 mph when the engine blew up because the valve dropped though the 8th cylinder and the car shook all the equipment stopped working and the brake not working well ,i was so scared that the road was very busy , thankfully i drove the car to a safe place, the car make 2008 only 34 k mile ,my car had been repair at chevrolet dealership cost over 16 thousand dollars.

This is the second time the engine has stalled while she was driving.the first time the vehicle was only going about 5 mph.the second time it was gong 35 mph.the car will restart.no malfunction were detected by an obd 2 tester.no computer malf. Indications no ck eng lights.the car now is completely dead in the garage.requires towing.battery is only 2 to 3 months old.

Corvette 2008 has approximately 15,000 miles.the ignition coil on cylinder 6 failed.after repairs and approximately 500 miles thereafter, ignition coil on cylinder 8 failed.

Driving normal citystreets 25mph when engine noise started, went another 2 blocks, engine stopped running, towed to chevy dealer. If this had happened on major highway, possible catastrophic effects.no power steering ,brakes, engine oil on roadway, steering wheel lock, wrecks ,injuries or possible fatalities. Engine head poor workmanship in these ls7 engines.

2008 corvette with 119000 has a strong odor of gas after filling up over a half of tank, but is showing no leaks. The gas cap is firmly in place and works correctly. I read that i should fill this out because it is a common issue with this model corvette and could be a safety issue. I thought i had bought cheap gas but this has happened again in the last couple of days. I did see a recall letter from chevy but the car is over 10 years old but is under 120,000 miles. I have had it since june of 2018. The vehicle is parked in a garage and the odor is very strong. When the vehicle's gas supply drops below a half a tank, the odor goes away. I first noticed this in the fall of 2019, but have not driven the car very much until this past week. I have had a pot hole issue in dec where a claim was filed but this has nothing to do with that. I was wondering if my vehicle would still be covered at no charge to me by the dealer or another chevy dealership closer to my home? i read where this is a very dangerous issue. I did guess at the sept date i first noticed it but it was on wednesday march 25 that i filled up and smelled it again. Thank you for your assistance.

Brake lights remain on while driving then go off when brake pedal is depressed.happens stopped or moving. Have heard a faulty bcm (body control module) causes this.

I went to the store when i was done shopping i started my car and the low beam head lights didn't come one. I had to use the high beams to get home.my husband used the car at night a few nights later and when he started the car they came on. A few minutes later when he was driving they went out he also had to use the high beams to get home. It seams they work some times. Maybe they turn off when the car gets warm. I have to drive the car at night and i have to use the high beams and other drivers flash there lights at me. This can cause a accident. This happens every time we drive the car at night.

3rd time now the low beams just shut off. You have to leave the car cool down before they will work. I was going around a corner on a dark road when the failed and i went off the road. Had to drive home with high beams on which was very unsafe for other drivers.updated 09/02/15

Low beam headlights go out and won't go back on either manually or automatically until the car cools down.this just started happeningrecently.my dealer said that for slightly older corvette years, there was a recall to replace the fuse block itself.apparently there were enough complaints about low beam headlights going out for no reason.i had the fuse block replaced and it apparently has solved the problem - but at a cost of over $500.after reading other similar complaints about 2008 corvettes, it would seem that the recall should also cover that model year as well.simi valley, ca.

This is my second complaint about the low beams on my car. They turn off when i am drive at night which makes me drive with the high beams on. This is my only vehicle so i have to drive it at night.tonight i was on the freeway drive with my high beams on when another driver slowed down and swerved towards my car trying to run me off road because my high beams were on. This isn't the first incident, some one got into my lane then got back into the other lane slowed for me to pass them then got very close to the back of my car and put there high beams on they were in a truck and there lights were blinding. Which made it very hard for me to see. I know that is how it is for car that are in front of me.i am afraid someone is going to take there rage farther then just a swerve. Does this have to become deadly before chevy recalls this problem.

The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet corvette. The contact stated that the headlights were activated while driving various speeds and then failed to operate unexpectedly. The fog lights were then activated in order to continue driving. The failure recurred whenever the headlights were in operation. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 58,000. Updated 08/06/13*ljupdated 08/05/2013

Thank you.

Documents attached detailing problem and gm's response - this is not a typical lens fogging with age that can be cleaned with a store bought product. I put 1/15/16 as the date below as that is the date i first contacted gm but this has formed over the last number of months.

Recently i was driving home and my automatic low beam headlights did not come on. Tried to turn them on manually, nothing. Had one working fog light to get home. People flashing me to turn my lights on. Very dangerous.

The vehicles headlights would not come on or would come on and off intermittently while driving and/or parked.the vehicle was taken in for service and i was advised that their had been a fuse block short and the fuse block was replaced.

I notice a strong fuel odor inside the car when tank is filled..once i get to like half a tank it goes away.also the headlight lens has to be polished frequently.they are cheap plastic.

The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet corvette. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the headlights failed causing the contact to utilize the fog lights to illuminate the roadway. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where it was stated that the fuse box needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 33,000.

Low lights shut off and would not turn on manually. The high beams andfog lights would work but not the low beam lights. After setting all night the low beam lights work again. This is the second time this has happened in the last 30 days.

The head-lamp lenses havedeveloped cracks. A technician from the dealer stated that the previous owner installed a clear adhesive over the lamps to reduce the cracking.he then added that any repairs made would be at the owners expense. The failure mileage was 7,102.updated 01/1410 updated 01/20/10.

Low beam headlight not working. Fuse and lamp replaced. Headlight low beam still not fixed. Headlight low beam went out while driving at night.

Llow beam lights completely stopped working on way home on a busy highway in the dark. High beams work, parking lights work. After cool down relay allows low beam to come back on. This is a major safety issue.

The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet corvette. While driving at night with the headlights activated, the low beam lights failed. The dealer stated that the ubec housing failed and caused the low beam relay control circuit to fail. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 61,200. Updated 12/2/14

The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet corvette. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the low beam headlights malfunctioned decreasing the contact's visibility. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 93,000.

When car gets hot, the low beam lights will not turn on.there is an existing recall for corvette c6 models from 08-13.but there are none for corvette c6 z06 models from 08-13 even though the fusebox, headlight wiring is identical.

I was out a couple of weeks ago at night and when i started my car the low beam head lights did not come on.fortunately the high beams and fog lights worked, which i used to get home. The problem has persisted and it appears they turn off when the car heats up.this is my only means of transportation and it is impeding me from going out at night because i am scared it may cause me to have an accident.this is a serious safety hazard and needs to be taken care of by the manufacturer immediately.there should be a recall.

After cranking my daily commute corvette around 8pm, for the first time in the evening in about a month. I noticed the low beam lights did not come on. After checking the lights and fuses, i found a intermittent short in the fuse box.

Got off work at 6pm was driving home on regular roads, and out of no where my low beams went out and wouldn't turn on again. Check all the fuses andrelays and there all good.

The low beam headlights sporadically shut off while the car is being driven. It has happened numerous times since the initial incident and makes driving very dangerous.

Low lights shut off and would not turn on manually. The high beams andfog lights would work but not the low beam lights. After setting all night the low beam lights work again. This is the second time this has happened in the last 10 days...updated 09-01-15

No high beam head lights.fuse did not blow, bulbs checked and are good, but will not light.had checked, and found short in wiring harness and fuse box.dealer will not repair.

This is my 3rd complaint. I know there is a recall on the head lights for the years 2005-2007. And for the years 2008-2013 it will be covered under upcoming customer satisfaction program 14203. When i called gm they said my vin # is not covered under that program yet my corvette is a 2008 model. I would like to know why. I have had numerous incidents where people get very mad because i am driving with high beams on. One time another vehicle swerved at me trying to run me off road.

The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet corvette. The contact stated that burning fumes were emitted into the vehicle and all of a sudden the headlights failed. Also, the contact mentioned that the high beams were defective. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 14,000.

The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet corvette. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the low beam lights failed without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the underhood bussed electrical center needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 115,000.

My low beams on my headlights on my 2008 chevy corvette suddenly turn off once the car warms up after driving a few minutes. When i turn on my car, the lights turn on normally. But as i drive, they suddenly turn off.... I see that this is a problem happening alot in vehicles like mine.

I was driving on the highway when the low beam head lights suddenly went out. The car will continue to lose function of them after about 15-30 minutes of use. Once the car is parked over night they will regain use in the morning but then lose function again once the engine bay is warm.

Low beam headlights failed while driving. High beams work and all other lights. Lights resumed working later as car cooled down. Failed again the next day. Seems to start working as car warms up.

Steering jerked, brakes applied for a second, cruise control turned off, no brake lights, and service active handling message appeared. Happend more than once.

The failure mileage was 35,000.

When the car has over 1/2 a tank of gas in it gas vapors begin to fill the cabin.when this happens the smell is so powerful i have to let the car air out for a minute before i can operate it.unfortunately, i can not wait for a recall to fix this so i am sending it to my mechanic.i would strongly suggest this gets addressed before someone gets hurt. Thanks ...updated 09/22/15

Gas tank leak when i put more than a half tank of gas ini smell gas and some time not even a half tank i smell gas if i fill up today i smell gas then and the next morning i smell gas before i get in the car this is a hazardgas is evaporating i pray it does not catch a fire i just bought the car 08/07/2014.

When i put more the 1/2 of tank of gas in my car i smell gas. If i fill it ,it is very bad i park my car in the garage and in the morning i have to open the garage doors to let it air out im afraid this may lead to a fire.

I smelled gasolinein the cabin of my 2008 chevrolet corvette coupe base model. I took it to lonestar chevrolet to check out the problem. They kept it overnight and reported not to be able to smellwhat i smelled. They reported to have done a "smoke test" and check all connections but was unable to find any problem. I have not smelled it as much since but very faintly a couple of times.

Crack onfiller neck on left fuel tank which i believe is a mfg defect in the molding of the tank. Gm is of the opinion that this is a wear and tear issue. I disagree as the right tank is still performing without problems. Vehicle has only been used for commuting and never abused in its 91,000+ miles of life. I am of the belief that gm should replace tank under their 10 year 120,000 mile warranty as the tank is not a moving part. Also, when tank is more than half full, fuel odor from leak is extremely strong and possibly combustible.thank you.

The drivers side fuel tank had leak on the top causing fuel to pool and leak on to the hot exhaust. This is very dangerous as fire ordeath could result. Tank was defective. This was a $4,000 repair. ....updated 11/02/15

It is a very well documented occurrence on c6 corvettes that on many cars, when the tank is full, fuel leaks out on top of the fuel tank. This happens when the crossover pipe between the two tanks begins to leak. You will not find any fuel on the ground, because it sits on top of the tank. When you begin driving it will fall off onto the exhaust pipe and burn off. This is a huge safety hazard, at any time it could catch fire and lead to injury and/or death. There have been numerous threads on corvetteforum.com regarding the issue and nothing has been done. This affects many corvette owners, myself included. The fuel smell when i walk into the garage is extremely potent, it even begins entering my home! the vapor can cause a fire in the garage, being a water heater is present, and cause severe property damage. This is a huge ethical case for chevrolet; well documented safety defect, and nothing has been done about this! nothing the owners have done to cause the issue, a defect in the design and/or manufacturing is to blame. Someone could die from this safety issue, something must be done!

Last summer started to smell fuel in the car after it had been sitting, smell wasn't noticeable during winter. Now that summer is approaching, i get a bad fuel smell after the car had sat for a few hours. It permeates the passenger cabin. I took the car to dealer with 44k miles, tech found the driver side fuel tank has leak inplastic seam where the filler neck is attached to the main body of the tank. This is a very common problem with these cars (2005 thru 2012).search online for "c6 corvette fuel smell", you will see numerous examples reporting fuel smell whenever the tank is more than half full on the gauge.gm stated the fuel tank is not covered unless the vehicle was equipped with cal emissions (7yr/70k miles) other wise only 2yr/24k miles. The tank is the same tank used on all models. Gm is selectively covering some replacements and refusing others.with a low mileage vehicle, i wouldn't expect to need to replace a fuel tank. I bought the car with roughly 25000 miles on it last june. I believe the tank has been leaking ever since and maybe before i owned it. Since gm will not cover it, i'm now left with a $3000 repair estimate to remove and replace the tank.i have a 2007 gm 4wd pickup with 117,000 miles of rough roads, off road, etc and not a drop of fuel leaking from it. How does a vehicle only designed to drive on the street, that is one of the most expensive vehicles gm makes, not have better fuel tanks. This is a fire/explosion risk as the fuel runs down the back of the tank, then drips onto the hot exhaust running right behind the tanks. This seems very similar to the c5 corvette fuel tank problems (almost same body style). I don't know why gm hasn't designed a fix for this and recalled all the tanks to protect the public other than profit reasons. I will pay to change the old tank out this weekend to makeit safe to drive again at my own expense.

When i fill my corvette fuel tank past 1/2 tank or more, i smell and ingest fuel vapors/odor...enough to cause me and my passenger headaches and light headedness, feelings of being sick.my garage fills up with the fuel fumes/odor also...i have to air it out for a long time and even leave the garage door open to help dissapate the fuel vapor/odors.inside the vehicle gets an intense fuel vapor/odor.i exchanged the fuel cap with an oem fuel cap with no improvement.the odor outside the car seemed to be coming from directly behind the driver side/fuel cap area.i dare say that i cannot down play this faint feeling and headaches from the strong fuel odor that this vehicle gives off, especially inside the cock pit/cab of the vehicle....it's very intense.thorobred chevrolet of chandler arizona could not find the source of theodor before the car went out of warranty...go figure!the fuel fumes are even stronger when the weather is warmer.here in arizona, we have temperatures in the 110 to 120 degree range and the fumes are bluntly unbearable at that pointthis fuel defect thing is occurring daily...driving home with a car cooked in the sun and fuel infused in the cock pit bears heavy upon me...the smell never goes away...life sucks with a $740 corvette payment i don't like driving it anymore because gm won't recall or fix it.

I purchased this vehicle this fall with about 12500 miles on the odometer.starting shortly after purchase i would often notice the smell of gasoline in my garage.after inspection, none of my other vehicles are leaking fuel.after searching for a leak, i turned to corvette forum, which has a discussion on fuel leaks in the 2008 model year corvette.evidently when the gas tank is 3/4 or more filled with fuel, there is a leak which deposits raw gas on the top of the gas tank, from which it drips or evaporates.i consider this leak a fire hazard, and urge nhtsa to require a recall to fix the problem.thank you for your prompt attention to my request.

Strong gas smell after filling vehicle up.

2008 corvette has a fuel leak when the tank is 3/4 to full. The gas vapors permeatethe garage and the cockpit. This is a safety concern as it can cause fire/explosions.

Strong fuel smell and seepage from drivers side tank when more than half full. Fuel level gauge doesn't work when below half tank as well.

After fueling my 2008 corvette, i noticed the strong smell of gasoline present on the inside of the car.i didn't give it much thought as the smell went away as i drove.but, the next time i got into the car, the smell was there again.each subsequent time i got into the car, the smell was present until the tank was half empty.at that point the smell went away, until i filled the tank again and the process began anew.i have blogged with many other owners of various years corvette models who have experienced the same problem.i am afraid the fumes that create the smell could ultimately ignite and cause a serious fire.as mentioned, this is not an isolated incident.many others have experienced the same problem.

Gasoline smell after filling fuel in tank. Smell exists until tank gets to below half.exists while driving or while parked in garage.

I have a strong fuel smell after filling my tank most noticeable when sitting still or parked.

Strong fuel smell inside car and in garage whenever fuel tank is filled above half.no evidence of fuel on the ground beneath car.smell is strongest around the area above the driver's side fuel tank.new gas cap did not fix.no codes displayed for fuel system problem.

The cockpit of the car smells like fuel after filling up the tank to full

Gas tank leaking

Smell of gas coming from car

Gasoline smell inside the vehicle it sits with the windows up. Usually more noticeable after filling with fuel.

Smell of gas on the left side back of car near fuel cap fuel pump is leaking gas very powerful 2008 chevy corvette

Top of fuel tank covered with raw fuel.don't know exact source yet as car is in repair shop now. Will follow up with more later.depending on fuel level in the tank, gas fumes are heavy or light.possible fire or explosion if left in confined space.

This 2008 corvette had a defective fuel tank module flange fuel and vapor leak per gm.when attempting to sell the vehicle the new purchaser found out from the dealer fuel vapor leaks when tank is filled over 1/2 way causing unhealthy issues when driven or sitting idle.

My vehicle has been having a gas fume smell in the driver's seat that has become more and more severe within the last 12 months. I researched the symptoms and i discovered that gm identified a defect in this model of car and issues a service bulleting and special coverage for affected vehicles. Unfortunately, gm did not contact me as required by law to advise me of this special coverage within the appropriate time frames for this repair to have been covered. I have lived at the same address since 2012, and have owned this car since 2014, well within the coverage period of this manufacture defect. I have contacted gm about this, and i was led to believe there would be some cost assistance, but i would have to take it to the dealer to get diagnosed first. In doing so, i have been without a car for 10 days, and now on day 10 i am informed by the dealership that gm denied any cost assistance, and the representative from gm has not even bothered to call me so we can discuss this further. Frankly this has been an enormous waste of time and gm has misled me, and further was deceptive in willfully neglecting to notify me about my special coverage in time for me to take advantage of it. Now i am on the hook for $1500 in repairs, which is frustrating to say the least.extremely disappointed, i currently own 3 gm vehicles, just bought a new one in may 2020 and after being treated like this i can assure gm they have lost a customer for life.

Car has a condition where a fuel odor is detected, fuel droplets appear below the left-hand fuel tank with fuel gauge level above 1/2, or a malfunction indicator lamp illuminates.

The car has a strong gas smell that has a know problem that happens when tank is over half full. Gm issued a special coverage adjustment 15682 primary tank module flange fuel and vapor leak in july 2016. But many of us as second owners did not receive the letter to take car back while still under warranty, the car has smell is so strong cannot park the car in garage and can smell when it outside. I would believe there could be a risk of fire if car was in a small enclosed space and a source of ignition was present.this should have been a full recall based on a gas vapor leak not just a service adjustment. I have tried to work with gm on this but they claim its to late even though they issued a 3rd revision of the adjustment in july 2017. To me for a known fuel vapor leak problem there should be no expiration like a recall

After filling tank with gas, fuel leaks out and leads to overwhelming gasoline smell within closed structure and within cabin.problem dissipates after fuel level drops below 3/4 full.dealer estimate on 11/1/2016 says:fuel coming down on left side of left tank, needs fuel pump, internal hoses and crossover

I filled the car with gas several times and i began to smell gas in my garage and when i stand beside the car. A very high aroma even when driving you can smell it inside the vehicle.

Parking my coupe inside my attached garage, after driving her (vette) the day before. The next morning i open my entry door that leads into garage. After opening door i immediately smell the unique aroma of gasoline/fuel emmiting throughout my entire garage. I did observe droplets of gasoline on my garage floor below coming from the drivers side fuel tank.

The car has a strong smell of gasoline in the cabin and garage when the tank is about 1/2 full. I replaced gas cap with a gm oem gas cap but i can still smell the fuel. These gas fumes can be really dangerous in the garage.

When i park my 2008 corvette in my garage there is a strong gas smell without evidence of a gas leak underneath my car. According to corvette forum theres and issue with fuel leaking out the tops of the fuel tank and dripping onto the exhaust posing a fuel hazard. Is there a factory recall for this issue?

Only owner of 2008 c6 coupe.garage kept.60,000 miles.gas fumes can be smelled near back of car after car is filled with fuel.fuel system tested and cracks found in left fuel tank.tank had to be replaced at cost of $3,000.

Fuel fumes and leakage from the left fueltank. Started during the spring of 2019 without any incident or mechanical chenge/ repair in the area. Noticed fuel leakage on the left side of the left tank. First appeared after taking the car out of the garage and reparking it in the garage again.

If i put more than 5 or 6 gallons of gas in the car there is a strong odor of gas in the car and around it. If i put the car in the garage it smells like gas through the whole house.

Smell of raw fuel in and around car.

Started to experience a strong fuel smell in my garage overnight september 2018. Took my car to local mechanic made me aware of gm service campaign bulletin #15682-03 primary tank module flange fuel and vapor leaks.only covers 10 years or 120,000 miles.my exact 10 years expired the month prior (aug 2018, my mileage is approximately 58,000.gm will not honor the warranty because of the one month expiration.i contacted chevy cust assistance and gm cust service, opened three cases and each time told they would not fix the issue even if one day passed the warranty. How is gm getting away with this and not making it a recall for such a dangerous and sensitive issue.my garage and house smelled of gas fumes, the inside of my car was unbearable from the fuel smell and the potential for an explosion.and the cost to repair -- out of pocket is approx. $1500-$2000.i hope there is something you can do to help push this to save lives and get our hard owned money refunded for the repair.it's no wonder people don't buy usa cars.

After filling the gas tank there is a strong gasoline odor in the car.i first started noticing this mid-year this year (2019).after several days, the odor is less.if the car sits for a time with more than 3/4 full tank, the odor is quite noticeable when you get in the car.

My vehicle has been starting to smell like fuel from the left rear tire. When i leave the car in the garage overnight it will fill the garage up with a fuel smell and is very unbearable.

Driver side fuel tank is leaking fuel. Lifted driver side and can visually see the tank is wet from fuel leak.

I'm getting a strong odor of raw gasoline which seems to be coming from the gas tank area of my 2008 corvette.i notice it as being especailly strong when the car has been sitting in the closed garage for a period of time

There is a gas smell coming from the driver side and can be smelled from inside the cabin as well. The car can be stationary or in motion.

I get a strong gas smell after fill up

Very strong fuel odor coming out of rear driver side. Odor seems stronger when fuel tank is at 80% or more.

I filled my tank and after parking the car in my garage noticed the smell of gas. According to n150682, this is a common issue with this model/year. This creates a serious risk for a fire hazard. The fumes that enter a home from the garage are also a serious concern and threat to the safety of my family. The fact that this is limited to 10 years even if you donā€™t have 120,000 miles seems unacceptable. This should be repaired any time prior to 120k miles, independent of years. Thank you.

Parked car in the garage after a short drive. I came back into the garage about 2 hours later and there was a very strong odor of gasoline. I wheeled out my power washer and law mower but the odor remained. I left everything out of the garage but the 2008 corvette z06 for three days and the odor seemed to be worse. After inspecting the 2008 corvette z06, the fumes were coming from the rear drivers side of the car. The fumes are so strong that i cannot trust any ignition source in the garage, so i moved the car outside but pushing the car out of the garage. The 2008 corvette z06 was parked in my personal garage the entire time until i pushed it out into my driveway.

Very strong smell of gas inside and outside of the car.smell was worse when the gas tank was full and the car had sit for a while.had to drive with windows down.took in for service and the issue was a crack at the top of the driver side fuel module.the crack was at the base of the small l shaped tube that comes out of the top of the fuel module.

Car smells like gas around the driver side tire, in cockpitalso under the gas tankwhen the car is filled up, noticed a few smalldrops of gas the other day under said location. Gm as stopped fixing this, i believe this should be a full recall.

Gasoline/fuel odor with full to half full fuel tank.odor in interior and around exterior of vehicle.research via internet indicates problem is widespread.

After filling my c6 corvette and driving it, i'm smelling fuel once i park the vehicle in my garage. The next day i can still smell it.

Smell gas fumes after fill up of half tank or more.

Strong, overbearing smell of gasoline inside and outside of the car at all times. I cannot drive it because of the fumes. I cannot park it in my garage because it fills the entire area with the smell of fuel. This is dangerous. This needs to be fixed. This is my only vehicle and i cannot drive it due to the safety risks alongside the nauseating fumes, and cannot afford to fix the problem.(chevrolet dealer quoted me $1,600 just to look for the problem, then unknown costs to fix it) this many people complaining about the same issue are not wrong. Gm needs to do a safety recall before someone gets hurt or worse.

Overwhelming fuel smell when leaving the car parked in the garage or when left parked outside the smell builds in the interior. Upon inspection there is a leak from the top of the driver's side fuel tank that drips down the rear of the tank near the hot exhaust.

When tank is filled with fuel there is a tremendous strong gas smell. This smell lasts until about half the fuel is used. Gas cap is proper and unaffected. The smell is strong regardless if the vehicle is setting still or in motion. Seems to be an ongoing issue with the 2008 c6 corvettes.

Leaking fuel / or strong raw fuel smell in cockpit, filler neck or top offuel tank!!! no fuel on pavement??replaced fuel cap - did not fix strong raw fuel smell... Suspect leak on top of tank or filler neck...

Left side fuel tank still leaking after repair at chevy dealerduring summer 2018. Cracked fuel tank on top of left fuel tank. Dealer replaced sending unit which also was faulty.many other corvette owners have this issue, chevy claims wear and tear, fuel tank is plastic and not a moving part . After start up cabin reeks of fuel and so does surrounding area. I.e garage under childs bedroom. Many 2008 corvette owners have complained or have seeked help of this issue, but chevy only issued a 10 year 120k mile limited warranty. Chevy cobalts have a recall for faulty leaking fuel tanks chevy are replacing them but not chevy's flagship car. No incidents or accidents have happened, but its unsettling to know fuel is leaking on a hot exhaust and the smell of fuel in cabin while occupied and while stored in a garage after use.

Fuel pump cracked and spraying gas outside gas tank and onto car body.heavy smell of gas10

Strong fuel odor after filling car with gas, almost unbearable in closed space (like a garage).dealer readily noticed odor when car was taken in for service.odor originates near fuel fill door (driver's side, rear wheel well).dealer diagnosed fault as leaking fuel tank, possibly due to cross-over pipe connecting left and right halves of tank or fuel pump; probably high on the tank; no gas drips on garage floor, evaporates before dripping.estimated cost to repair >$1550 not including parts.fuel vapor leaks are dangerous.this type of problem has been described for corvettes as early as the 1996 model year.

Smell of gasoline in the garage.appears to be a fuel leak on left side of car.

Rhadamanthus gas smell in cab. Took to dealer and they said it was a cracked elbow on the drivers side fuel-pump. It was not covered under emissions so it cost me $2000.00 to have fixed. There are many complaints about this same problem on numerous forums. This is a serious safety issue and g.m. Will not address it. I'm pissed. A recall is needed. Please do what you can to get this recall.mthanks

Strong gas smell coming from car after fill up. Inside and out.

Strong odor of raw gas with car parked in garage. Changed fuel cap but did not fix problem. Concerned about possible explosion and/or fire as a result. Dealer cannot find any visible leaks but odor remains. There are many posts on the corvette forum with the same issue and gm just seems to ignore theproblem..

Fuel tank leaking on top when tank filled past 3/4.strong fuel smell in garage and car.leak stains on back side of tank.

Fuel smell after fill up on several occasions most recent is listed. Started about 2 months ago.

Smell gasoline from driver's side .change gas cap didn't help

After filling the car with fuel, i could smell gas instantly and i thought there was a leak. Upon parking my car in the garage the whole garage smelled of fuel. After two days the smell was gone but it does appear every time i fill the car to some degree. It comes and goes now so you never know when it will happen.

Fuel smell coming from driver's side of car near rear wheel well opening. When parked in my garage, it fills the garage with gas fumes.

Gas smell in car and garage.

When i fill the corvette with gas and park in the garage the gas fumes are extremely strong, i do not overfill, this will also happen above a half full tank. My concern is for the safety of my family. With all the issues gm has had with other failures to recall a vehicle to correct a obvious problem, the ignition switch for one and gms commitment to the consumers safety as being their main concern this shouldbe a automatic recall to fix the problem before someone has to bury a loved one. But it seems this is the protocol for the big automakers and the nhtsa before anything is done, let's for once recall a known issue before this happens.

Fuel began leaking while driving on the highway. It was just random, and was taken for diagnosis & repair immediately after the smell started. I had to buy an entire new fuel system for my 2008 corvette (topping $3600 from chevrolet). No reason was provided for the reason of requiring replacement.

Whenever the fuel tank is filled beyond 1/2 gas fumes fill the passenger cabin.i have brought law suit against previous owner for non-disclosure.

Car is smelling a strong odor of fuel which has been a problem for 2008 corvettes

Strong odor of gas in garage from an apparent gas leak. No detectable leakage, just a strong gasoline odor.

Over the past few months, i have been noticing a strong gasoline odor emanating from the left rear portion of my 2008 corvette. Without having the car on a lift, visual inspection of the driver side fuel tank reveals a "wet" look creeping down the rear side of the tank. Again, without the aid of a lift, i was able to fix a rag on the end of a device and swipe the "wet" area. The rag picked up a bit of this "wet" and a simple sniff left no doubt that the "wet" is a gasoline leak that appears to be coming out the top of the tank.

Gas fumes smell parked in garage .

Fuel leak in the driver's side fuel pump causing strong fuel smell due to accumulated fuel in panels surrounding the driver's side fuel tank.fire hazard potential for destruction of property and injury or death.

I purchased the vehicle used approximately 12 months ago.every time i fill the fuel tank there are gas fumes that come out of the top of the the driver's side fuel tank and the entire garage smells like gasoline.i am concerned my house is going to catch fire with the gas water heater in the garage and all of the gas fumes.it appears to be the connector on top off the fuel tank where the fuel pump inserts.it is my understanding gm knows about this issue.has a recall been issued for this serious safety issue?will the manufacturer repair this problem?

The crossover pipe between the two fuel tanks started leaking fuel. This caused a strong odor of fuel to happen inside the garage and inside the car itself. Fuel also splashed on various parts under the car. This resulted in a possible unsafe condition.

Terrible gas fumes smell when i fill tank over half full! fumes even inside car when windows closed and when garaged the smell is so strong i think a open flame would cause an explosion! this has gone on for several years and not gotten fixed because of reported cost and i think gm should fix. I think this is a health and danger hazard and would hope gm would do the right thing and fix this on my 2008 corvette.

After a fuel fill up and parking the 2008 corvette in the garage there is a strong gasoline smell in the garage and inside the vehicle. If i do not drive for a few days the smell starts to dissipate, but after i drive it will be strong again until the fuel level drops. My concern is the safety issue with the possibility of a fire.

Recently bought a use 2008 corvette.went to dealership to pick up and as i approached vehicle a very strong odor was emitting from the vehicle and once i opened the door the order was strongly present inside also.i originally figured that the salesman had over filled the tanksince he said he would fill the vehicle with gas as part of the sale.the odor continued for several days, even as the gas was used.i drove the vehicle and tried several refills (ensuring not to top off) but the odor is still present.no matter the volume of gas in the tank the strong odor of gasoline is present outside and inside.research on the internet revealed numerous complaints of the same problem from other owners of that model (c6) indicating a problem with a defective fuel line (elbow on the top of the drivers side gas tank coming from the fuel delivery system and associated seals/gaskets). There is even a youtube video by an owner showing the problem and his personal repair of the defect.i saw that the repair can cost an owner upwards of $4k dollars.since this defect is so prevalent and obviously not something that can be caused by owners negligence, these vehicles should be recalled by the manufacturer and repaired.this condition is a fire hazard and should be looked at immediately.

After fueling my 2008 c6 corvette and parking in the garage there is a strong fuel smell. As a test removed it from garage and smell stopped.

There is a very strong gas small that fills the inside of the car! it is happening to a lot of corvettes and i don't know what to do about it

Fuel smell inside and outside the car on drivers side

Fuel leaking from gas tank after filling with fresh fuel in addition to strong fuel order from inside of vehicle cabin. Vehicle is stationary or in motion when this problem occurs. Fuel odor is so strong vehicle must have windows rolled down prior to entering cabin.

My car smells like gas when its above a half tank.once it goes below a half tank the smell is not as strong.i took it to lakeside chevrolet in rockwall, texas and was told that it appears that seal on the fuel pump was broken causing gas to escape.i was originally told that chev would fix it at no cost to me then they called me 3 days later and told me warranty would not cover it because my cars age.wendell, in the service dept said that chev had extended the warranty to 10 years or 120,000 miles whichever came 1st because of the issues they were having with the fuel system.my car has 63,000 miles on it.i felt they should fix it but they wont unless i pay the $2500 or so.

Started noticing a strong smell of gas a few weeks ago in my garage where i park my car.i thought maybe it was lawn equipment, or my motor bike.i took all those out one at a time over night, and still noticed the smell.left my car out over night, no smell, put back in the garage, and the smell came back!fills the whole garage and house after about 12 hours!!!in searching the corvette forums, it appears that many others are having this problem.it appears to be the fuel pump where the fuel line hooks up, gets small hair line cracks. This is obviously a huge fire hazard!

When i fill the gas tank there is a strong smell of gasoline in and around the car, when parked in the garage it be comes overwhelming.i'm afraid itcould be a fire hazard.i researched the info and was advised to go to this web site.im trying to find out if there is a recall to fix this problem.

Strong fuel smell coming from car when the car was turned off. Smell started on the outside of the car, but eventually (over the course of a couple days) leaked into the cabin. By this time the car also smelled of fuel when on. Left car in garage for a few hours while hiking, came back and opened the garage and started coughing from all the fuel fumes. No visible liquid leaks, but the smell was very strong. I aired out the garage and parked the car outside and took it in the next day, was told the fuel pump cracked. This shouldn't happen after 7 years of low to moderate use. This was also during thanksgiving - if i had gone away for the holiday, the spark from my gas hot water heater may have caused an explosion while i was away. The amount of fuel vapor in my garage was enough to cause difficulty breathing. Also, while driving to the dealership, my father (following in another vehicle) said he smelt a strong scent of fuel whenever i stopped at a light. Considering how close the left fuel tank (where the fuel pump is located) is to the hot exhaust pipe, i'm lucky the fuel didn't leak onto the pipe and start a fire with me inside.as a side note, as soon as i described the problem to my service rep at the dealer they said this has actually been a common occurrence over the past few months for the 2008 vehicles. When i talked to the rep, there is a new part on the market that gm will replace my old, cracked part with - which tells me gm knows about this problem, and yet failed to disclose this could happen.

This is a follow up to a complaint i filed on dec 26 2017 complaint number 11056152.it seems i received a recall letter in june of 2016 about a gas smell problem with certain corvettes.the letter said if you are having that issue take your car to a dealer for repair.in 2016 i didn't have that issue and filed the letter. Now in 2017 i have that problem but the local chevrolet dealer informed me that my car was only covered until last aug. This repair is approximately $5000.00.how can general motors exempt themselves from a potential explosive condition from a faulty gas valve.they were aware there valves were failing and hoping they could get the effected automobiles beyond the 10 year limit.if they truly had their customers safety in mind the would have instructed all owner of the corvettes with this faulty gas valve to have their car repaired in june of 2016, before the "smell" occurred.i cannot believe they are not responsible for such a dangerous problem. I cannot park my car in my garage with out leaving a door open for fear of a fire or worse.this was not caused by any thing an owner is responsible for.not lack of proper maintenance, or vehicle abuse. I've tried calling general motors but only get some computer that screens calls. Its very frustrating.i hope some one at nhtsa can give me some advice and my issue some consideration.thank you

Strong fuel smell coming from the left rear. Also strong fuel smell in cabin when fuel tank is over 1/2 full.

Strong smell of gas around car, inside car and inside garage..vehicle confirmed by dealer to have crack in plastic on fuel pump.defect in plastic.. Gm will not cover cost to repair since no recall on this has been issued.

Strong fuel smell coming from vehicle while engine isn't running. Googled and was told it's a safety recall issue with this model car and that i should file a complaint.

Fuel tank cracking. Fuel tank cracked at the interface with the fuel module. Emits raw gasoline fumes while driving and parked. Smell so bad in garage that door must be opened. In my car, no spots on floor have been present. Chevrolet needs to issue a recall before someone is burned up or a house is destroyed, including occupants. Is that what is to be required before recall is issued?

Very strong fuel smell if the fuel tank is 3/4 to completely full.i have filled the tank up and have driven it, parked it in the garage, and then the next morning the garage smells like fuel.very strong odor.

Corvette has fuel leaking from the top of the tank due to hairline cracks on top of fuel pump elbow. Car can not be topped off sprays out under pressure. Presentsa fire hazard and should be looked in to by nhtsa for recall. So it does not hurt any one or some ones car catches on fire. Gm should have this fixed there was also an issues with the c5 corvettes previous generation that was recalled.

Strong gas smell coming from vehicle when parked.it is not an issue with gas cap - i have had it replaced and verified that it is properly fit.i can not say for certain when this began to be an issue as the car previously was parked outside and the smell was not noticeable.

After filling up my 2008 chevrolet corvette the car has a distinct gas smell when walking up to it. The smell is strong but goes away while driving it and is not that strong once parked. After sitting for a few hours i come back and the scent is back. It seems to only emit this gasoline smell when the fuel tank is filled over half full. It has done this since i took ownership of the car in december 2020, and could have been going on for a while before that.

Concern: fuel smell / leak and fuel system check engine light when car is parked.on 1/05/2016 i took my 2008 corvette to our local dealer, courtesy chevrolet in phoenix, az because of a fuel leak and fuel smell i discovered on the drivers side gas tank.after they diagnosed the problems they told me the fuel pump on the drivers side was cracked and leaking fuel down the side of the tank.additionally, the fuel sensor in the passenger side gas tank was defective causing a check engine light and causing the fuel gauge to read zero gas in the tank intermittently (tank is actually half full).the dealer also said the crossover tube that connects the left and right gas tanks needs to be replaced.the dealer said this is a significant safety issue and to not drive the car until the fuel system is repaired because the hot exhaust pipe routes right next to where the gas is leaking down the gas tank.their repair estimate is $3187. My car has 80k miles on it and is out of standard warranty so gm won't cover the repair costs.it appears that many c6 generation corvettes have this same fuel system safety issue from what i have read on the online corvette forums.gm/chevrolet needs to issue a recall on this well document fuel system issue, it is a major safety concern.

Entire car smells like fuel after sitting still in garage over night.

While the vehicle is parked, especially after filling up the gas tank, the vehicle emits the strong smell of gasoline.the smell of gasoline fills my garage when the vehicle is parked overnight.the concern is that the vehicle may catch fire if exposed to a spark or some other type of heat source such as the vehicle's exhaust.according to the dealership there is no recall for this issue.

Fuel leaks out of the fuel pump and runs down the side of the fuel tank. This can leak onto the exhaust while driving, or pool on top of the tank leaving a strong gasoline odor in the car and garage.

My 2008 chevy corvette has a bad gas smell everytime i get in and out of the vehicle. I have read that many people have this same issue and its caused by the plastic used for the gas tank. Gets a crack and leaks from the back down to the exhaust. Possible fire hazard. Let me know asap of any recalls etc. Thank you

Any time i fill up the car with gasoline, i smell a strong gasoline smell for days, in the garage and inside the car while driving. The smell subsides once the fuel level gets below half tank. The root of the problem is usually a leak in the plastic fuel pump that sprays gasoline on top of the fuel tank and runs down the side of the tank very close to the hot exhaust pipes. This is likely a fire hazard. There are hundreds of reports of this around the internet. Example: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c6-corvette-general-discussion/3563123-danger-fuel-leaks-safety-recall-9.htmlgm has extended the warranty to 10 years, but my car is at 10 years and one month, so gm does not want to cover it. Here is the gm bulletin stating the 10 year warranty: https://redirect.viglink.com/?format=go&jsonp=vglnk_151104044978215&key=5e9e33f20bf41d5a669cc4838c2690e9&libid=ja5udjf901000b28000dlg5apleoa&loc=https%3a%2f%2fwww.corvetteforum.com%2fforums%2fc6-corvette-general-discussion%2f3563123-danger-fuel-leaks-safety-recall-10.html&v=1&out=http%3a%2f%2fwww.corvetteactioncenter.com%2ftech%2fknowledgebase%2ffile.php%3fid%3d130&ref=https%3a%2f%2fwww.corvetteforum.com%2fforums%2fc6-corvette-general-discussion%2f3563123-danger-fuel-leaks-safety-recall-9.html&title=*%20*%20*%20*%20danger%20fuel%20leaks%20-%20safety%20recall%20*%20*%20*%20*%20-%20page%2010%20-%20corvetteforum%20-%20chevrolet%20corvette%20forum%20discussion&txt=http%3a%2f%2fwww.corvetteactioncenter.com%2f...ile.php%3fid%3d130 this is a serious safety issue and should be covered for the life of the vehicle. It is also an emissions issue, and it should be covered as such as well.thank you for your serious consideration.

The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet corvette. The contact stated that after refueling, fuel fumes emitted into the vehicle. The contact mentioned that once the fuel level was under the half mark, the fumes would vanish. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The approximate failure mileage was 37,000.

Upon inspection, the driver side fuel tank is leaking. The system has lean codes and was advised to drop the fuel tank to verify fuel leak location.

Filled gas tank, extreme smell of gas lingering when parked .i heard on the forum that this is probably a leaking gas tank and very dangerous

Fuel leak. Can smell fuel when car is parked in garage. Fuel smell leaks into vehicle cabin and into attached house. This problem is believed to be caused by a broken fitting on the fuel pump module, located on the top of the fuel tank. Gm did a service bulletin 17469, but this only covers vehicles less than 10 years old. This problem may present itself on vehicles that are older than ten years, it just depends on how long it takes for the plastic fuel pump fitting to deteriorate.

The car has a strong smell of gasoline in the cabin and garage when the tank is about 1/2 full. I wonder if this is a hazard?

After filling tank, there is a very strong smell of gas for over a week after filling. Seems like there is leak at the top of the tank which spills out and onto the exhaust pipes. Gas must be sitting somewhere on the chassis the smell is strong enough to fill my garage and house.

There is a very strong fuel smell in my corvette after fueling up.the cabin smells like raw fuel, and it permeates the garage for a few days.the issue seems to subside after there is less fuel in the car.

Takata recall, i noticed a fuel smell in my garage and when i check under the car i found a spot of fuel under the driver tank side.

Strong gasoline odor coming from left rear side of vehicle at fuel filling area and below.usually notice when the vehicle is turned off in the garage. Odor lingers even into overnight, next day garage has gasoline odor

2008 corvette with 34,000 miles has terrible, noxious fuel smell in cabin.the smell is so bad that i have to drive the car with the windows down and the ac on.i was informed that i had a fuel leak at the top of the car's left side fuel tank.when i'm parked in the garage the fuel smell becomes unbearable.apparently the fuel leaks down the tank onto theexhaust pipe.extreme dangerous conditions.the fuel vapors could be ignited by the water heater.was informed that the repairs would be $5000.00.there are numerous similar complaints.gm has been ignoring the complaints.i assume that they are waiting for something serious to occur before they'll take action.

Bad fuel smell coming from inside of car when i fill up the tank.

Strong fuel odor coming from car when enclosed in a garage.found fuel leaking from top of drivers side fuel tank.worse when tank is full.

Gas leaking at top of fuel tanks. Gas fumes fill cockpit and garage when parked. Evidence of gas dripping down back of drivers side fuel tank, next to exhaust. Car can not be kept in an enclosed garage due to fumes and fire hazard. Driving car also presents a fire hazards, because the fuel drips down onto hot exhaust.numerous other reports on the corvette forum of this same problem. Too many to count.

Strong smell of gasoline inside and outside of my 2008 c6 corvette with no visible fuel leaks.the overpowering vapors leak into the house when parked in the garage making a highly dangerous flamable safety issue . The local chevrolet service center quoted $1,400 to pull the fuel tank and replace a charcoal canister, and they indicated this was a known concern.in researching this issue on open forums, found numerous identical issues.my vehicle has only 48,000 miles.this should be a safety recall at a minimum before a vehicle catches fire or explodes in a closed space near gas water heater with pilot light.

When my vehicle sits i smell gas outside.

My car had a heavy gas smell. I took it to my mechanics at briggs firestone in oroville,ca and after they diagnosis they informed me about a special coverage notification from chevrolet #15682-03 ( primary tank flange fuel and vapor leak). I purchased my car in 2018, but was not aware of any problems. There was never a recall issued. I've called chevrolet and was told i'd hear from a supervisor at 2pm on monday 4/12/2021. I just called again, and again i was told that a mgr would call me back tomorrow. I've waited 50 yrs to buy my dream car, and being a viet nam vet, i'm definitely tired of getting the run around. If a gas tank leak is not a safety hazard , what is? briggs phone # is 530-533-9372 if you would like to talk to them.

I filled the car up with fuel , parked it in the garage. Next day i come out to start it, and a very very strong fuel smell was coming from the vehicle. No visible leaks on floor or vehicle from what i could see, but even in the cabin it smelt horrible. I am very concerned about it being a fire hazard and possible result in death. I know for sure there is a technical service bulletin in regards to this amongst c6 corvettes but mine has expired since my vehicle is a 2008, and it only covers 10 years or 100,000 miles. Although i only have 46k miles. I went on the corvetteforums and to my surprise there have been thousands of people with the same exact symptoms and issue.

Leaking gas pump at the rear of the car while sitting in the garage with a half tank or more of fuel.

I smell fuel inside the vehicleand can't see any leaks non in motion

On september 13,2012 my fuel gauge stop working and it was not registeringanygas level in the tank .i went to chevrolet dealership thinking that this was a repair whichwould fall under my vehicle extended warranty.i found out that there was a history code that came up in my car computer at 13,700 miles that my fuel system was falling. This is a code that you as the driver do not see nor do the tech at the dealership will see unless a diagnosis testing is done. Thedealership had to call gm , because this fall under the factory warranty and this is something that happens with corvettes. The service manager stated sometime this fuel tank failure can happen at any mileage.this failure with my vehicle consist of right fuel tank had to be replace, fuel lever sensor had to be replace, fuel sensor had to be replace, line in tank had to be replace, crossover tubing had to be replace. If i know that this al fell under the gm factory warranty this would had cst me $2,024.09. This issues had to be know, this has happen with 2007 thru 2011 corvette's this is a known issues. You as a owner must be persist with the dealership and gm they will not want to payerror that they know is going on.i had to report this to the attorney general office in illinois and the bbb in illinois before something was done. I just wanted other owner to be aware of this have your vehicle check for this failure.

Strong fuel smell when filling car up.lasts for days or until fuel tank gets below 1/2.no noticeable leak on the ground under.this is strongest in the left rear area where you fill the tank up and in the cabin.i believe this is related to chevrolet bulletin 15682.highly dangerous, near exhaust pipes.likely cause of fire.

I had noticed the faint odor of gas fumes after the car was parked for a few days but the smell was not strong enough to take action.approximately six months later on march 24, 2016, new rear tires were installed on the car at a local tire dealer and the technician noticed the gas leak near the drivers side fuel tank.i took the car to the gm dealership and they diagnosed the fuel leak was not caused by any abuse, modifications, or accidental contact such as rocks.the failure was a fit issue between the tank and fuel line caused by heat over time.

Very strong fuel vapor smell, fuel pools up on top of fuel tank and leaks onto hot exhaust.

Notice a fuel leak smell coming from left-rear of vehicle when filling gas tank up more than 1/2 of full tank.

A very strong fuel smell when the vehicle is left parked in the garage for any length of time. It also is noticed when parked in the open street as well.

The odor of fuel can be smelled while outside and inside the vehicle. The smell is coming from the drivers side rear wheel area. Research online shows that gm used faulty fuel pumps/seals. This is a very dangerous fault.

After driving my car i parked it in mygaragethe next morning my garage was filled with gas fumes called dealer and brought carin they told me it was the fuel pump module and my car was out of extended warranty it only has 18000 miles on it and they said repair was approximately 3000.00 dollars

Fuel smell coming from fuel tank, when tank is more than 1/2 full, inside of car smells of gasoline. When car sits in garage it fills the garage with fumes, very dangerous and it seems like i am 1 of many with the same problem on the c6 corvette.seems like the fuel tank seems are splitting from what everyone has said.

My 2008 corvette started smelling of fuel whenever i filled it up.it gradually got worse over the years.the garage would reek.i took it to the dealership and they said the driver's side gas tank is leaking and it would cost me about $3,000 to have it changed out.my vette only has 52,000 miles on it.i was not ready to spend that amount so i brought it home.now it has gotten so bad with the gasoline smell that i am afraid to drive it.i also am afraid to park it in our garage that has a gas water heater in it.this is a huge defect and these cars should be recalled as this is a true threat to safety.i am ready to hire an attorney for a class action lawsuit before someone's home burns down or dies.i have seen numerous online complaints just like mine about their 2008 vette.i would think gm is fully aware of this issue.therefore if they do not act there could be blood on their hands.i love my corvette but driving it is not worth my life.i have documentation from the dealership to share.

Strong gas smell when car sits overnight in garage , no fuel on the ground , smell coming from left read by rear tire.a huge safety issue . This is a gm special coverage adjustment15682 , need help in getting it fixed at gms cost.

Gas fumes after filling tank and until level is below half.

When filling the car with fuel above the half way mark a strong odor of gas can be smelled. Over night the smell is so strong in the garage you need to leave the door cracked open to vent the fumes. No visible leak is detected on the ground or near filler neck.after drive the car and gas is less than half a tank the ordor can not be detected.

Strong gasoline vapors filling the garage when car is parked over night. Noticed after a fill up.

I have been having a strong gasoline oder inside my vehicle

The car had approx 15000 miles on it when i began to notice a strong smell of gasoline in my garage and cabin of the vehicle. I could also see where fuel had been running down the inside of the drivers side fuel tank. The gasoline vapor was overwhelming in the cabin and garage. A search of the internet revealed a long history of leaks on the fuel module on top of the drivers side fuel tank. My dealer confirmed this and quoted me $2100 to replace the cracked fuel module. The leak drips very close to the exhaust pipe and would appear to be a serious safety issue. I strongly recommend an investigation and or recall of these cars based on the number of complaints on the internet.

Excessive fuel smells in and around car after filling...

Just bought this 2008 c6 corvette coupe. Only 50k miles. Severe fuel smell when gas tank is 1/2 or more full. Parked in garage without engine being on for more than a full day, and the gas smell is so overwhelming, the smell permeated through the walls and into the house. Cannot park in the garage.

When the car is parked and the engine is off, there is a strong and persistent fuel vapor/fuel odor coming from left rear quarter panel area of the car near the fuel filler door and left rear wheel well.odor does not seem to be coming from the fuel filler port or fuel filler cap.fuel filler neck hose and vapor return line behind the fuel filler port appear to be dry and connections are secure.no evidence of fuel leaking from the fuel filler neck or left fuel tank; no fuel leaking onto the ground.no previous fuel spills from refueling.fuel vapor odor fills up the garage when parked in there for several hours.

After filling the fuel tank and driving, a strong gas smell filled the passenger compartment. This continued the rest of the day. It is now parked in the garage, and the garage smells like fuel. We put about 75 miles on the car on mountain roads here in arizona.

My 2008chevrolet corvette smell of gas vapor when i fill it up i notice the smell when park it in the garage i notice the smell about 5 months ago

Strong fuel odor coming from fuel tank area.

The car was parked i goy a strong gas smell. Brought to corvette dealer was advised this problem was part of recall or bulletin. I am trying to find out if still coveredunder original recall/bulletin.

The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet corvette. The contact stated that there was an abnormal odor of fuel emerging from the vehicle. The contact also noticed fuel leaking from the fuel tank area and the check engine indicator was illuminated. The local dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 81,000.

There is a bad fuel leak that produces horrible amounts of gas vapor that fill any area the vehicle is parked in as well the fuel leaks down the driver rear quarter panel to the hot exhaust. This situation has the potential to be very devastating not only to property but also to the operator while driving the vehicle. It is a very unsafe condition. The vehicle is currently getting inspected at the dealership

Whenever the car is more than 1/2 full with fuel, a very strong fuel smell leaks into the car. The smell is potent enough to make the entire garage smell like gasoline if parked overnight with the gas tank being over 1/2 full. Significant fuel leak around gas tank noted after inspection from local mechanic.

Primary tank module flange fuel and vapor leaks...instead of gm making a recall they are calling it an extended special warranty.the problem is i just recently purchased the vehicle and noticed if the fuel tank was over half full the fumes were unbearable.its impossible to park inside my garage.the smell in the inside of the car is very strong.the recall (extended warranty) states that its only good for 10 years or 120k miles, but since my 2008 corvette was initially sold on 10/25/17 and only has 40k miles they have refused to take care of this expensive, dangerous issue.they have acknowledged the safety concern, but have capped the time it can be repaired.which makes zero sense.if its dangerous, its dangerous.i bought the car 12/2017 and immediately noticed the problem, but since i missed the deadline by less than 60 days they will not take responsibility.https://gm.oemdtc.com/6376/15682-03-special-coverage-primary-tank-module-flange-fuel-and-vapor-leaks-2007-2009-cadillac-xlr-2007-2013-chevrolet-corvettethanks,

Fuel leak / fire hazardmy 2008 corvette ls2 emits a strong gasoline smell after i add more than a couple of gallons of fuel. The odor is strongest near the fuel door area, including inside the car. Recently the gasoline has begun leaking onto my garage floor, filling both the garage and my house with fumes. Internet research reveals this is a widely reported problem with this model, and web forum posts as well as service technicians i've just spoken to instruct me not to even start the car, as the leak poses a significant fire risk. Previously, driving the car helped the smell dissipate, but it re-intensifies once stationary. Timeframe: i started experiencing the odor a couple of years ago. Mileage: odometer cited below in this form is current; i did not record the mileage at the time the issue first occurred.

When i fill the tank i get a strong smell of fuel. My garage is attached to my townhouse ans the smell of fuel and be smelled throughout the garage and house.

I noticed my fuel tank leaking fuel on the floor in my garage, my garage smelling like fuel, and increased fuel consumption. I took my car to a shop and they had to replace the fuel pump and tank (out of warranty) because the car was leaking fuel on the driver's side where the fuel pump connects to the fuel tank.

There was a recall on my vehicle's fuel system which caused the car to smell like gas every single time i filled up the tank. Last year i received a letter from gm stating to bring it into the dealership to be repaired. They kept my car for over 5 months. They said they repaired the problem but it was not fixed. I called them to tell them the car still smelled like gas. This year i got hold of gm and they sent me back to the dealership. They said they needed to replace the fuel tank. They said they would only pay for 60% and i would be responsible for 40% and the problem i have with that is the fact that it was never repaired at all to begin with. I should not be responsible for the repair and can't afford it.

Strong smell of gas once the tank is filled over the 1/2 way mark.mechanic advises me of a leak in driver side tank.numerous posting of same problem on corvette forum.com.cannot park car in garage due to high gas vapors.cannot operate car when tank is full due to strong vapors inside car.google advises many people having same issues. Estimated cost to repair is $2500-3000.this problem began early 2015 and has progressed to its current stage.note: corvette's use a saddle bag gas tank and is 2 bags connected. It appears the leak is where the 2 tanks connect.... Updated 08/23/16 the consumer stated the vehicle was repaired. Updated 3/30/2017the consumer requested iformation concerning a par submition.

I purchased this vehicle from the original owner. Starting about a month ago i would often notice the smell of gasoline in my garage. After inspection, none of my other vehicles are leaking fuel. After searching for a leak, i turned to corvette forum, which has a discussion on fuel leaks in the 2008 model year corvette. Evidently when the gas tank is 1/2 or more filled with fuel, there is a leak which deposits raw gas on the top of the gas tank, from which it drips or evaporates. I consider this leak a fire hazard, and urge nhtsa to require a recall to fix the problem. Thank you for your prompt attention to my request.

There is evidence that fuel is leaking from the top of the fuel tank, and the car smells of gasoline very strongly. Car smells while sitting and while running.

Very strong smell of fuel in the car and the surrounding area of the car.driving the car makes me sick.i get headaches and nauseous.

Started smelling gas in my garage then notice my vette is leaking fuel

Any time vehicle has over 1/2 tank of fuel i get fuel vapors filling my garage & inside the vehicle.

'takata recall' the car have strong smell of gas fumes when over a half tank of gas. Cannot park in grage or sat in car for fumes. Was told recall has expired. Don't understand if gm knows this is a safety issue that they would not cancel the recall. Need help contacting gm head office.

There is a fuel leak around the filler tube on the gas tank.i have been working with chevrolet for 2 months, but they say the part is being redesigned because of the problem and will not be available for at least 4 months.this is an old problem and chevy is just now redesigning the part.i received a letter limiting their liability to 10 years or 120,000 miles in july 2016, but i am just now experiencing the problem.neither the dealer or the chevrolet consumer department are willing to provide any financial assistance.can you help get them to cover this problem? consumer stated he would like to cancel the complaint.

On 8/20/2015 i filled my car up with gas and as soon as drove away the cockpit stared to smell like gas i thought i may have spilled some om shoe, the odor was getting overwhelming . When i got home nothing was on my shoe so i looked around the car for a leak.i didn't see or find anything but did find a bad gas smell from the driver side rear. The next morning i went out to the garage, there was a odor of raw gas it was extremely bad for i feared that my house would blow up do to the water heater having a flame. I immediately took the car out of the garage . The car is now atthe dealer and waiting for the prognosis 8/22/2015 i will report more when i find out what theyfound .

Started noticing fuel smell inside car if gas tank filled over half. When fuel level below half tank there is no fuel smell inside cabin.

When i have over half a tank of fuel in the car it wreaks of raw fuel. It's most noticeable around the gas fill opening at the left rear quarter panel. If the car sits with the windows up i have to air out the cockpit before i drive it due to accumulated gas fumes. These fumes are due to an active leak that is present at all times when the fuel tank is ~1/2 full or more.this condition seems to be prevalent as there are countless complaints registered in the various web forums and youtube. It's apparently due to fuel accumulating on the exterior of the fuel tank where the fuel line exits the tank. That fitting fatigues and cracks over time.i can't believe this hasn't been addressed as a safety and health concern and/or chevrolet has not offered to repair this condition. Not only is it an obvious fire hazard but gas fumes are a known carcinogen. It a shame that you have to risk your property and health or spend $1000+ to repair a manufacturer defect.

Small pools of fuel forming underneath vehicle when parked after driving under drivers side rear near exhaust

The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet corvette. The contact stated that strong fuel fumes emitted in and around the vehicle. The contact mentioned that the fumes were stronger immediately after refueling. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer. The technician was not able to replicate and diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.updated 4/21/15 updated 6/26/2015

9/2017. Began to smell gas in and out of our 2008 corvette, took car to a corvette specialist. I was told there is hairline crack where the neck of the tack meets the tank body. Had tank replaced with a used tank. The car had not been wrecked or raced. Has less than 35k on it.i have documentation at corvettes of houston.

Fuel pump leaking gas. The dealership has had the vehicle for over a month and cannot find a pump. This was such a bad leak that the garage and house smells of fuel. I was afraid of a fire. Why is it that gm can get away with this?i own a very expensive brick that could be the source of a fire but i cannot find the part for the dealership to fix it. Gm should be forced to do the right thing and produce the parts for a recall.

Strong gas smell inside the vehicle

After filling up my car with fuel, i parked it in the garage when i got home.the next day, my wife woke me up and told me that the garage was full of fuel vapors.suspecting that it was coming from the corvette, i looked around the vehicle but did not see any gas liquid on the garage floor.however because the smell was so strong, i took the car out of the garage and parked it in the driveway.the next day i checked and there was still strong gas smell around the vehicle.at that point i decided to take the car to the chevrolet dealership to have them evaluate the problem.after leaving the car with them, they contacted me the next day and told me that the smell of gas was coming from a crackin the fuel tank.they also told me that the car was not safe to drive because the fuel tank is located in the rear of the vehicle above the exhaust pipes.i told the dealership to replace the fuel tank and any other item in the rear of the vehicle that needed repair.the fuel tank was replace at a cost of $3056.97.i also had them to replace the fuel pump since they had the tank removed and had access to the fuel pump.fortunately i was able to use my 10% military discount or the cost would have been higher.after the car was repaired, i researched this issue on the internet and saw where other 2008 corvette owners had this very same problem with their car.it is evident that there is a defect in these fuel tanks and chevrolet should officially do a recall on the 2008 corvettes and any other year model that has the potential to develop cracks in the fuel tanks.if there is no recall, someone could seriously be injured by the fuel tank problem.i hope by documenting this problem it will bring some type of positive resolution from chevrolet/gm.

Strong gasoline fuel smell when vehicle was parked inside enclosed garage. Smell greatest after a recent fill-up.dealer did a smoke test and cursory visual check of fuel tanks without finding clear evidence of a vapor or liquid leak. Finally on the third visit to the dealership, dealer was instructed to remove both fuel tanks from the car for a detailed inspection.driver side tank fuel pump was found to have a cracked liquid fuel line fitting requiring replacement of the fuel pump.

The fuel system is leaking.it sends out gas fumes and i have a three car enclosed garage and it still fills up the garage with fumes so bad i sometimes have to leave the vehicle outside in the elements in order to be able to get to the car without holding my breath so the fumes can dissipate.i am getting the fuel pumps changed and the entire fuel system checked out in order to remedy this problem.additionally, the fuel mileage has dramatically decreased regardless of where i drive on the highway or city.

Strong fuel smell when fuel tank is at least half full.local chevrolet dealer suspects a leak in the tank from vicinity of top left of tank.invoice from dealer's service department is attached.

There is a very strong fuel smell coming from the rear driver side of the car. It can be heavily concentrated inside the car if the windows are up and the fuel tank is full. With the car parked in my closed garage you could smell fuel inside my house. No fuel leak is visible. The smell us reduced as fuel level decreases. Excessive fuel consumption rate is also observed. The fuel smell is present at all times but is even worse when the car is in motion.

Every time i'm driving the car smell fuel inside the car.

After filling tank with gasoline there is a leak.the fumes from the leak are very strong in my garage, requiring me to ventilate the area to prevent an explosion. I do not overfill. The auto-turnoff at the pump won't allow that.apparently the leak is where the two tanks are connected.

Bad fuel smellafter filling up car.

Every time a fill the gas tank to 3/4 or more i smell a strong odor of gasoline inside the car and inside the rear drivers side wheel well. This could possibly be a dangerous situation because the odor is near the exhaust pipe. Now i only fill the tank toa max of half-full to try to save myself from a deadly explosion. Cheverolet needs to have a recall on this because a friend of mines has the same problem. Further investigating this matter, i found out that there are 100'0's ofc6's on the road with this problem. I bought this car as used and did not notice the smell because the tank was only a 1/4 full

Fuel leaking from tank after filling with gas

Gasoline smell when fuel tank is above 1/2 full.fills the garage with dangerous gas fumes when car is parked inside.this is a common problem for the 2008 corvette.the plastic on top of the fuel pump cracks with age causing a fuel leak.fuel then runs down side of tank onto the exhaust.a very dangerous situation!please recall!

My independent mechanic noted some gas leaking from the drivers side fuel tank while doing maintenance. He could not see the source of the leak. I will take the car to a dealership for diagnosis and repair. Is this covered under emissions? the garage and passenger compartment now have a stronger smell of gasoline in the last week. I have noted website corvette sites which state this is a frequent defect. Please advise if it is a emissions problem. It certainly has resulted in raw fuel being dumped into the atmosphere, and is an obvious safety concern.

Fuel leaks, fuel fumes and strong gas odor due to defective oem fuel sender unit installed at the factory. This seems to be a recurring severe issue that plagues most 2008 corvettes, and ahead.

Have fuel leaking from the drivers side tank, not always just when i fill up the tank. When i walk into the garage there is a strong odor of gas and when i take a look under the car there is a stain under the left side fuel tank. I lifted the back end off the car on jack stands and i could see drops of fuel coming from the cover. When i took the cover off for a closer look the cover was soaked in gasoline. Ive had the car for a few years now but i dont drive it much.i believe it was like this with the previous owner as well.

I have written before on this problem.do you folks ever acknowledge receipt of a complaint.the car has a strong smell of gasoline until the tank is half empty.this is a large problem affecting many corvette owners and the fumes are very badinside and outside the car.there was no date of incident and it did not arise from any accident.

My 2008 c6 corvette has a problem with a fuel smell coming from car when i fill the tank.i parked the car in the garage after a refill one evening. My wife returned homefrom work a couple of hours later and when she opened the garaged she was overwhelmed by the gas fumes, afterwards i parked my car outside of thegarage.i took my car to the chevy dealership for adiagnostic test and theyinformed me that i had a leaking fuel pump and i needed to replace the pump as well as the left fuel tank (repair cost estimate $2900). The mechanic stated that he'd changed several of pumps on c6 corvettes in the past. So i asked him ifthis was such a frequent occurrence, was chevrolet aware of the this safety issue. This was the response " i cannot answer that question sir". I truly believe this a safety defect that may cause someone their life one day.either with someone parking the car in the garage in the fumes may cause the hot heater to ignite the fumes or it leaks down onto an hot exhaust when driving the vehicle.

I continue to smell a strong odor of gasoline coming from my vehicle, inside and out. It smells particularly strong just after refueling but never really goes away. I don't see any fuel leaking onto the ground beneath car when i look for it. When i park in my garage, the smell is strongest and on many occasions it has been necessary to open both my garage doors and turn on a fan to air out the odor. Of course i am concerned that the fumes will fill up the space and become ignited by an ignition source and blow up my house or other place where i park my vehicle. My corvette is never driven hard or raced on a track and has never been in an accident that may have dislodged fuel lines or otherwise damaged the fuel system. I have read in articles and other reports that many other corvette owners of my vintage are experiencing or have experienced this problem where it has become serious enough to complain about. In my opinion, this is a factory production defect and must be the subject of a vehicle recall for the make and model of this year chevrolet corvette. Lets not wait until someone is seriously injured or even dies due to this very dangerous issue.

Fuel smell on driver's side of car...when stationary and while driving. Reported to dealer during 1st year of ownership when car was new.

Strong odor of gasoline after fill-up.no trouble codes like evap, etc.turning while vehicle in motion (~20mph) increases gas odor.i stopped driving vehicle for fear of a vehiclefire.i fear this is the dreaded fuel pump fitting crack/failurethat other c-6's have experienced. Does someone have to die before corrective action is taken?

Strong smell of gas.at first it was not very strong but has been getting worse.now the whole garage smells like gas and every time that i get in or out of the car even in open air i smell it.

Strong fuel smell, fuel leaks back in shop for massive fuel leak. Was in shop a couple weeks ago and the evap valve was replaced, new gas cap installed.

The vehicle smells very strongly of gas and has bad lingering odor of gas when parked in garage. Less noticeable when parked outdoors, likely due to ventilation. It is a constant and ongoing problem.

Stron fuel odor coming from the car when it is running or parked. Overnight, it will fill the garage with the smell of fuel which i believe is becoming a safety hazard. No noticeable leak, which leads me to believe it is located somewhere within the tank or fuel pump assembly.

I have fuel smell from the fuel pump area. The dealer tells me that they are on back order. They believe that the pump may need replacing but they cannot take the car knowing that they cannot fix it. Therefore it leaks in my closed garage. It only leaks when the tank is greater than half full.

On 01/10/2016 my 2008 corvette was parked in my garage overnight with a full to 3/4 full gas tank. The next morning there was strong smell of gasoline in my garage.the smell was coming from my corvette. The smell continued for 2 more nights. On or about 01/15/2016 i took my corvette to the local dealership, glendora chev. It was determined there that fuel leak was at the top of the gas tank. This would cost $2300-$2500 to repair. Due to a lack of parts by the gm supplier due to an excessive number of fuel tank failures similar to mine. I have not had my car nearly a month and parts that have been sent have failed or defective. I feel this is a gm's failure to use quality part suppliers and maintain a high level of oversight to prevent these problems from happening in the first place. Seems like gm has not learned from their past mistakes.

Takata recall gas smell when tank has been filled inside car and outside car is not running or running

A strong fuel odor is emanating from the car from the driver's side rear wheel well area where a tank is located.the odor is particularly strong when driving for a couple of hours in 100+ degree heat in the desert southwest.

The gas tank on the drivers side is leaking from the top around fuel pump. Very strong fuel odor.

When the gas tank is filled to halfway or more, the car smells from gasoline while driving and while parked in the garage. The smell remains as long as the car is in the garage.

Received recall notice for leak path in left hand fuel pump module flange.when i took it into the dealership, after smelling gas during fill ups, they said my problem was a leak in the fuel tank and the right hand side transfer module was leaking not the left side. Had to pay for repairs due to the right side versus the left side when they are both made from the same materials.contacted gm and they would not honor this. The right side fuel take needs to be recalled as well this is a design issue and a safety issue for health and parking next to a gas water heater.

"tamara recall" my corvette has a strong smell of gas when being on and parked.

Strong gas smell inside the car and outside the rear of the car.

After filling gas tank full, very strong odor of gasoline.checked by mechanic and no visible gas leak.odor continues while stationary or moving.when the tank is only half full the smell is not noticeable. Just began in september of 2017 and vehicle has 29,000 miles.does someone have to be blown up or involved in a fire before gm takes responsibility for the defect in the fuel system?in researching this there have been numerous complaints and this should be recalled and fixed by gm.

After filling the gas tank, gas and/or vapor is leaking from the tank. If i park the car in the garage it soon fills completely with a strong gas smell. I believe this is a fire hazzard.

On sunday afternoon i filled my 2008 corvette with gas. I only filled it until the pump clicked off.i was already aware overfilling is not good for the car nor is it a safe practice. I drove about 25-30 miles before returning home. Everything seemed fine until the following morning when i went out to my garage. The smell of gas was overpowering. I immediately opened both doors in the garage to allow it to air out. I then checked the gas cap. I checked for any leaks but couldn't find any. I called my mechanic and reluctantly drove 2 blocks to have it looked at. He spent about 2 hours looking the car over but couldn't find any leaks. He then called his contacts at the local chevrolet dealer. He was told that this was a common problem with the car. He asked if chevrolet had issued any safety recalls and we were both very shocked that although chevrolet is very aware of the problem they don't think there customers safety is worth taking away from the bottom line. This repair is going to cost $2700. That's bad enough but can you imagine if i had been rear ended or t- boned after filling up ? i'm thinking there could have been an explosion resulting in serious injury or even death. To think that chevrolet is fully aware of this problem and refuses to fix the problem isinfuriating. I couldn't smell the fuel when i was driving, only after i had parked in the garage. I also could only detect a very slight odor when it was parked outside at the mechanics shop the following day. After the mechanic dropped the tank and shield you could clearly see fluid marks were the gas was leaking. At the very least chevrolet could inform their customers. Perhaps like me they would choose to repair it,assuming they could afford it, rather than being trapped in a burning car. Customers like me rely on organizations like you to force companies like chevrolet to do the right thing

Https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9e3md122mg2008 corvette coupe developed a strong smell of gas which is strongest on drivers side of cabin. There are no visible leaks, no gas pooling and there was no accident. There appear to be hundreds to thousands of other owners who are experiencing this exact issue due to a faulty part on the gas tank (see video). It is not due to a number of miles driven but appears to be a part that is defective over time due to brittle plastic. The gas smell is incredibly strong and makes the car undrivable unless the windows are always fully down. Also generally unsure if the car is going to explode due to the continuing pooling of fuel over time.

I notice a strong fuel odor inside the car when tank is filled..once i get to like half a tank it goes away.also the headlight lens has to be polished frequently.they are cheap plastic.

Very strong fuel smell, after filling up with fuel. Fuel smell while driving vehicle. After vehicle is turned off, i can hear a sizzling sound on rear exhaust , as well as smelling fuel. There are gas leak marks on left rear fuel tank, as if fuel is leaking somewhere on left fuel tank. I am worried about possible fire or explosion with driving this vehicle.

When fuel tanks are full there is a strong fuel smell that fills the garage and leaks into my house.if the fuel vapors get high enough they could create a fire hazard as well as an inhalation and respiratory issues.

After filling the fuel tank on my 2008 chevy corvette a strong smell of gasoline filled the garage after parking it.i took it to a auto repair shop and they told me the fuel tank was leaking.i've read where other corvette owners have had this problem. Very dangerous situation.

Started noticing an emitting of gasoline odors on the drivers side by the rear wheel well. Replaced the gas cap, odor still therenoticed odor after filling gas tank. Odor remains until gas tank falls at below1/2 tank.advised possibly fuel cross over line between two tanksthis seems to be a more typical occurrence on c5 and c6 corvettes.

Gasoline smell if parked over night in my garage.

Strong fuel smell coming from vehicle

My 2008 corvette has a strong odor of gas fumes that fills my garage.. I have to leave my garage door up about 2' and the side door open to get the fumes out.. This started a week ago when i filled the tank up..

During the july time frame i parked my car in my garage.the next morning i went into the garage and smelled an overwhelming odor of gas fumes.i immediately removed the car from the garage and parked on the street.i went to work that day and while driving i smell gas fumes in the cockpit.i parked my car and opened the trunk.i smelled gas fumes there as well.it has come to the point i will not park my vette in the garage for fear of the house burning down.i do not drive my car to work for fear of the car exploding and killing me.i took the car to the dealership.they could not find anything wrong with the car.they did not detect the smell of gas fumes either. I fear parking the car in the garage because i do need a place to live.the car will remained parked outside until this dangerous situation is resolved.lets be proactive not reactive.thank you.....[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Strong smell of fuel inside vehicle all the time, especially when tank is full.visible fuel on top of left fuel tank, and stains of fuel running down sides of left fuel tank and into sheetmetal pan that supports tank.

Fuel smell coming from driver side rear wheel area. Very strong fuel smell inside the car. Garage smells like fuel from car sitting after being parked. Took it to a shop and had it looked at. The tech said the fuel pump is leaking on driver side were the fuel line is cracked on the fuel pump module.

I began to notice a was smelling fuel in my car. As it got worse i went to grapevine chevy in grapevine, tx. They did a smoke test and found a leak in the drivers side fuel tank. Initially they believed the tank was cracked but they would not cover the repairs citing a non-warranty issue. Well after the leaking getting progressively worse to the point you could smell it inside the car while driving so i decided to fix it myself. When i removed the tank i found the fuel pump seals ruptured. I replace the thing and problem solved. Gm never did anything at all to correct the issue.

Gas fumes gather in garage when car is parked. I've seen hundreds of the same complaint on the c6 corvette model on web sites etc. No gas is dripping as many have reported it gathers on top of tank and then evaporates when driving. This is a potentially dangerous situation that gm should be correcting.

The vehicle emits a strong odor of gasoline when it is parked in my garage. Regardless of fuel level the smell of gasoline is present, but the odor is moresubstantial when the vehicle has been filled full fuel. The odor is so overwhelming that i can no longer park my car indoors for fear of the gas fumes may be ignited by a spark.

Driver's side fuel tank cracked and leaking. Drive train had to be dropped to allow tank to be removed. Tank is $900 + and is not covered by any warranty. New tank is on backorder with edt of 2-3 weeks. Chevrolet will not cover cost of the tank under the extended warranty. There are literally hundreds of 2008 corvettes with this serious problem. Loaner car is covered for only 5 days. This tank should be recalled as it is a serious, dangerous recurring problem. Leaks inside garages and could burn down home with car. Someone needs to address this problem immediately. Chevrolet should not only be required to cover cost of the replacement tank and inconvenience caused by backorder of replacement parts that may be defective also.

The car reeks of fuel, particularly noticeable after parking in the garage overnight, and after filling it with gas. It can also be smelled inside the cabin while driving. The smell is emanating from the drivers side tank area. It's been widely reported this is caused by inferior plastic used in a nipple at the top of the fuel pump. The plastic cracks and allows fuel to be sprayed all over the top of the tank and on the exhaust system. Since my car has an automatic transmission, the driveline has to be removed to access the fuel pump. The cost of repair will be in the $2500 to $3000 range, just to replace the pump with a new one that will eventually fail again since gm hasn't done anything to fix the problem. Gm should step up and recall these cars before somebody's house burns down or somebody is killed.the fuel pump and bladder/gas tank were replace in 2013.it is happening again august 2016.

I began to notice a strong gasoline smell next to my rear driver's side of my 2008 chevy corvette coupe. I just did a search online and found numerous others with the same complaint for the same model. Seems the fuel tank leaks after cracks develop.

2008 corvette with strong smell of gas fumes near gas tankwhen gas tank is more than half full. Seems to be a leak at the in tank fuel pump

Gas is leaking when the tank is over 3/4 full and has a stronger odor of gas in my garage. It's on the drivers side. And there's a little puddle of gas on the pan under the tank.

The vehicle has a strong fuel odor coming from the driver side rear wheel well. Dealer tells me gm is aware of the safety issue but my car is 10 years and 1 month old. Repair through gm is only up to 10 years. The vehicle can't be parked in garage and i am fearfully when driving it. Gm special coverage # for this issue is 15682.. Refersnce # n150682.

Strong smell of gas when the car was sitting.smell both inside and outside of car.took in for service and found cracks in the driver side fuel tank at the seems of the plastic gas tank.

While driving, the car's gas gauge will drop to zero and the service fuel system light will come on.after a while, it would go back tand normal.to add to this issue, when the car is parked in the garage, there is a strong gas smell that fills the garage. This has been on going since last year.

So recently bought a 2008 corvette c6 from rick hendricks chevrolet, and have been smelling the gas smell since i got it, i can smell it outside the car, in the cockpit all the time if it's over half a tank, i look under the car and there's gas all under it. Seems like it's coming from the top of the fuel tank, my fuel mileage isn't that great because of it. Smell is constant, until it's below half a tank.

When i fill the gas tank i get a strong gas smell especially when it's parked in my garage.

Fuel smell emanating from gas filler area. Has gradually increased over the past few months so that it is prominent when entering the garage where it is stored.

When i fill up my corvette at times is smells like gas in the car.also, my fuel gauge will at time go to zero even though fuel is in the tank.this corrects at times, but is getting worse.

Only 36,000 miles on this car and there is a very strong gas smell coming from the exterior of the car when it's parked.i am afraid to drive this car.the gas smell started about a week ago. I did not overfill the tank, and the gas cap is secure.taking it to the dealer this week to find out what's wrong, this is an extreme fire hazard.

Wiring harness for drivers seat failed causing airbag system to be disabled.fails at start-up.strong fuel smell from driver's side.vehicle stationary.not cured by replacing gas gap and fuel pump.

Gasoline smell after filling fuel in tank. Smell exists until tank gets to below half.exists while driving or while parked in garage.

Cracked cross-over pipe connecting the fuel tanks.noticed a strong fuel odor after car was parked in my garage, took vehicle to yates gmc where car was purchased. Tanks were dropped and a gm tech diagnosed the problem as a cracked cross-over pipe that would have to be replaced. This is an extreme hazard and i was fortunate that the issue did not result in an explosion, i have a gas water heater in my garage which was filled (to the extreme) with gas fumes while parked overnightcontact yates gmc auto sales (goodyear az) for details of the issue and repair

Following refueling, the cabin of the car fills with gasoline fumes. In most cases, the car most be allowed to air-out for hours prior to driving or storing in the garage. The quantity and concentration of fumes seems to be a significant fire risk. As it is transient, the dealer is not able to pinpoint, thus fix, the problem. This is a significant safety issue that warrants regulatory involvement!

After i park my 2008 corvette inside, there is a strong smell of gasoline.i understand it is probably from a fuel leak at the top of the fuel tank on the driver's side. I thought it was because i might have over filled the tank, but i do not "top off" the tank.most recently, i filled the tank, then drove over 100 miles.the smell is still there.this could potentially be a major health/fire hazard.

Recall received for left side gas leak but my car has right side gas tank leak this is going to cost$3k to fix a gas leak is a gas leak and very dangerous.

The driver's side fuel tank started leaking at the top of the tank.anything over 1/2 tank (the corvette uses two fuel tanks, a driver and passenger side) will result in extremely strong fuel odors and gas leaking from the top of the tank.the gas puddled on top of the tank, from leaking, could potentially drain or fall onto the hot exhaust while driving creating an enormous fire hazard.the fuel odor is overwhelming if the vehicle is parked in an enclosed space, say a garage, creating another fire hazard with the gas fumes.i am fearful to even drive the vehicle in the event that the worst could happen and the car catch on fire.

"takata recall" for some reason i have noticed when i go in my garage where my corvette is parked there is a strong smell of gasoline and there are times when it's in a closed area i get the smell i have read that it's a common problems in these c 6s

Upon filling the fuel tank, there is a very strong odor of gasoline while parked.this odor does not dissipate quickly.the odor is present outside the vehicle and inside the vehicle as well.i fear that this will cause a fire or an inhalation issue for the occupants.i purchased this vehicle recently from the original owner.it has 49,000 miles.i cannot locate the source of the odor.the fuel cap was tested a few days ago during dmv inspection and was not defective.

The last two times that i filled up the car with fuel, there has been a strong odor of gasoline in the car that diminished as the gas tank emptied . The mechanic said there is gasoline leaking from the tank onto the under carriage of the car and that it a problem (defective parts) that gm is aware of.this clearly is a safety issue but no recall was ever issued, instead in july of 2016, i received a letter from gm stating that if i detected a fuel odor i should take the car in for repair at no charge.at that time there was no odor. The car is now over ten years old and only has 27,000 miles on it, but gm says that they have no responsibility to fix the problem. I am not sure how gm could get away with this, but in my opinion there should have been and there still should be a recall.someone really dropped the ball on this.

The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet corvette. After refueling the vehicle, the contact noticed strong fuel fumes inside and outside the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 75,000.

When parked in my garage there is a strong smell of gasoline. I am afraid of a fire or explosion. Purchased this car used from the previous original owner.

After filling up my car with gas, i noticed a strong fuel smell when it was parked in my garage. When i looked under the car, i noticed a small puddle of gas on the floor. I continued to drive the car and noticed the smell and leak went away when the fuel gauge red under half-full. I then added more gas, but did not completely fill up. The smell and leak returned. When taken to the dealership for diagnosis, they indicated a known problem with the tank fill neck and the fuel pump, but no recall issued. The vehicle has not been repaired.

Overwhelming fuel smell in cockpit after driving

After filling up with gas there is an extremely strong smell of gasoline in the car itself. Only after half a tank is gone is the smell finally gone.

A continued heavy smell of fuel after filling the gas tank when sitting and not running.

Takata recall fuel tank smell when full

Tamara recallmy 2008 corvette smells like gas after you park it into the garage after driving it. And when the fuel tanks or more than half full.

Fuel smell inside the vehicle. Shop inspected and found a fuel leak from the top of left fuel tank. Tested and found elbow out of fuel pump cracked. Removed and replaced left fuel pump assembly.

I entered garage after car being in garage all night, garage was filled with gasoline fumes.

Just noticed the smell of gasoline after fill up in my garage. Checked the corvette fourm and this is a known issue in this vehicle and gm has been fixing the issue if the car is under 10 years old as a warranty sadly my car is now over 10 years old and only has 75,000 miles on it. I really think this should be a recall issue. I did schedule a service check to test the system and was quoted 900.00 to do a smoke test on the fuel system. It looks like gm has changed the plastic part that is cracking with a better plastic several time. I'm really worried about the car burning my home down and i'm keeping the fuel at half a tank.

When the fuel tanks are more than half full, there is a strong smell of gasoline in the passenger compartment. This is apparently an ongoing problem with the c6 fuel tanks, as it has been raised by many people in various online forums.this problem also occurred in the c fuel, and i was told was fixed via a recall.has this problem prompted any recall activities for the c6. The dealer wants over $3000 to fix the problem.

Fuel odor in the garage right side gas tank has fuel leaking down the tank after fill up there is a gas water heater in the garage if this is not a safety issue what is? after doing some research this is a very common problem why no recall by gm? noticed odor for over a year took it to dealer and found the leak.

I have a fuel smell/odor coming from my 2008 corvette coupe when i fill the tank to full. I took it to a local mechanic and it cost me over $1400 to repair. The mechanic informed me that it was a small plastic part on top of the drivers side tank that was faulty. I would notice the strong smell when the car was parked in my garage.

Every time i fill the gas tank and the i start the corvette, the dash starts beeping, the gas gauge goes to zero, the "service fuel system" warning comes on and the engine light symbol shows in instrument panel.this remains for approx 10 - 12 starts on car and then it returns to normal and gas gauge shows present level of fuel.i have tried filling close to full and stopping, filling last part of tank very slow, but no matter what, every time i fill gas tank the fuel system indicators malfunction.forums online say to use techron from chevron to clean fuel system and have tried others for several years and still have problem.

Fuel fumes/leakage after fill up and while vehicle sits in a garage for a few dayson several occasions

The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet corvette. The contact stated that that fuel was leaking into the vehicle. The contact mentioned that after refueling, fuel fumes emitted in and around the vehicle and garage. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 48,000.

Fuel leak in tank area.extreme fumes most noticed after filling

The car reeks of fuel, particularly noticeable after parking in the garage overnight, and after filling it with gas.it can also be smelled inside the cabin while driving. The smell is emanating from the drivers side tank area.it's been widely reported this is caused by inferior plastic used in a nipple at the top of the fuel pump.the plastic cracks and allows fuel to be sprayed all over the top of the tank and on the exhaust system.since my car has an automatic transmission, the driveline has to be removed to access the fuel pump.the cost of repair will be in the $2500 to $3000 range, just to replace the pump with a new one that will eventually fail again since gm hasn't done anything to fix the problem.gm should step up and recall these cars before somebody's house burns down or somebody is killed.

Fuel fumes gas tank fills the garage and seeps into the home. I have to leave the vehicle out side and was a advised it was the fuel pump and not to drive until replaced. Told there was a recall and trying to find out how to get it repaired?

The gas fumes leak into the cockpit and smell up the car so bad it makes you dizzy and smell up the entire garage, worse is the fact that 2 dealers in my area still have not figured out how to correct it, this is dangerous and needs a class act filed against manufacture.

Due to a cracked fitting on top of the drivers side fuel pump, fuel is sprayed out and some pools on top of the tank. In the morning there is a strong smell of fuel inside and outside of the car. This would not normally be an issue on most cars, but because the fuel tanks are so hard to remove and expensive to repair the fuel pump is a $2,000 or more repair because transmission must be removed from the car to get to the fuel pump.on a related note gm has a really bad problem with the fuel level sensors going bad at low mileage. This sends an error code and a owner cannot pass a bi annual smog check until they pay the large sum of money to get the fuel level sensors replaced, once again having to drop the transmission to drop the fuel tank to replace a fifty dollar part cost around two thousand dollars. So my complaint is that the epa or federal and state smog laws and the error code, make the owner do the repair, to the fuel level sensor although it really does not affect the emissions of the engine, while it is perfectly fine to drive around with gas spilling out while driving.this is a serious environmental issue on top of the obvious safety issue that gm does not want to be accountable for...this needs to be fixed for all corvette with the low mileage leaking fuel pump and the owners should not be the ones at fault...

I have a strong gas odor coming from left rear side of the car when i fill the tank more than half full , the car only has 6000 miles, i purchased new in november 2007

My car for several months had been emitting a very strong gas smell that i noticed when it was parked in the garage. When i took in my car for a regular oil, lube and filter they detected that the smell was coming from the driver side fuel tank that was wet on the top and leaking all down the side. When the dealership called me they said they would need to replace both fuel tanks and both fuel pumps with level sensors a gave me a quote of 3,468.89. I inquired if there was a recall on this safety issue with this particular model or covered under an emissions warranty. They told me that it was not a recall or under an emissions warranty. I incurred the cost of the replacement of both fuel tanks and both fuel pumps. Last week a friend of mine had mentioned that this issue should be covered under some safety/emissions warranty or recall. Upon further research found that this has been a problem for several c6 corvette owners and people were able to get reimbursed for the costs incurred due to manufacturing issue. Thank you for taking the time to read my complaint and considering reimbursement through gm for the gas tank and fuel pump leaks. Thank you.

After refilling with gas there is a strong gasoline odor in interior of vehicle.

Very strong fuel smell in garage, this happens after filling tank. Smell goes away after some fuel is used up. I have owned the car since august 2011. This problem started approximately two months ago.another problem that started a while ago is that sometimes the transmission won't come out of park, the brake pedal needs to be tapped repeatedly while trying to shift out of park

Purchased my 2008 corvette new and after 50k miles the the cab filled with raw gas fumes, the drivers side fuel tank leak from the top. The tank and pump were replaced.8,000 mile later the sending units went out. Tanks were dropped and sending units replaced at my expense. Less than 30,000 miles later same tank leak. Now gm doesn't have replacement tanks and the manufacture is saying maybe in 4 months. My vet has already been at the dealer for over 3 months. Ridiculous! manufacture defect for sure on a item thar should last forever. Very dangerous.

When the gas tank is filled half way or more the odor of gas is overwhelming out side the vehicle driver side and the smell of gas permiates throughout the garage which is attached to my home.

I am writing this in regards to my 2008 chevy corvette.there is an issue of gas fumes coming from the car whenever the car is over half full. It vey bad and starts when the car gets over 30k-40k miles on them.i have been on forums and this seems to be an issue with 2008-2009 corvettes having faulty parts around the gas tank which start to leak. Gm isn't doing anything about this issue and if not fixed can lead to gas mixing with hotexhaust and resulting in a fire or explosion of the cars fuel cell. I hope this helps get this issue resolved before someone gets seriously injured or killed.

After fueling over 1/2 tank fumes are now noticeable in the rear of the vehicle and inside while parked.

The car has a overwhelming gasoline vapor odor after filling the tank.

Gaz smell - odor- even after car sitting without being used for 10 hours

Getting a strong smell of gasoline in the cabin and in the garage when parked.cannot see any fuel on the ground, but the area under the fuel tank near the filler area is discolored and may be wicking to that area.

A few months ago, i filled my 2008 corvette c6 with gas. I only filled it until the pump clicked off. I was already aware overfilling is not good for the car nor is it a safe practice. I drove about 25-30 miles before returning home. Everything seemed fine until the following morning when i went out to my garage. The smell of gas was overpowering. I immediately opened both doors in the garage to allow it to air out. I then checked the gas cap. The smell was coming strongly from the driver's side rear.i checked under the fuel tank and felt gas. I parked the car for a few weeks until i could get it into a gm dealership.after they checked it out, i was told that this was a common problem with the car. I asked if chevrolet had issued any safety recalls and i was shocked that although chevrolet is very aware of the problem, they don't think their customers safety is worth taking away from the bottom line. To reiterate, the fuel system is leaking, gm is aware of the fault, and it's felt that they should recall this.if someone hasn't been killed yet, someone will soon.

Strong fuel vapor smell inside cabin specially on driver side of car.

Leaking fuel tank, while setting in my garage

There is a gasoline leak somewhere on the car that is filling the garage with a very strong gasoline smell.there is no gas on the garage floor.i suspect a vapor leak at the top of the gas tank at the fuel pump/gage sender location.car is now parked outside for fear of fire in the garage.have an appointment with the chevrolet dealer on monday 5-4-15 to find leak and repair.currently believe this could be a very serious safety problem!

When i fill the car up it stinks of gas for the next few days when parked.

There is a strong smell of gas inside the car.there is also a strong smell of gas in the garage after the car has been parked for awhile.

There is a gas leak, probably from the fuel pump. I can smell gas odor. I'm worried that the gas fumes is close to the water heater and don't want an explosion to happen. I can smell it when i'm inside of the car and driving.

Strong fuel smell coming from car after fillup, seems like fuel leak.it fills up garage with very very very strong smell of fuel.does not appear to be coming from the gas cap, but smell is strong.worried that the leak onto exhaust will cause a fire

After refueling, there is a strong gasoline odor in the passenger cabin.

I bought this car in july 2016. It only has 21000 miles on it. It stays parked inside the garage and every time i feel the tank i get a strong gasoline smell. This smell is strong and feels the garage. I checked and found a recall for this. I need to know what to do.

When i fill the gas tank more than halfway and drive it around i notice a gas smell entering the cabin. After parking it overnight the fuel smell in the cabin is overwhelming.

While parked in the garage after driving there is a strong gas odor emanating from the vehicle.

Very strong fuel smell when gas tank over half full explosion hazard

Fuel leak from fuel pump on left side of car behind driver seat. Well known problem with general motors and there has been recalls. Itā€™s a safety issue that needs to be taken care of and all vehicles with this problem. I was told by a chevy dealer to file a complaint with the nhtsa and this problem could be covered under recall warranty.

Only owner of 2008 c6 coupe.garage kept.gas fumes can be smelled near back of car after car is filled with fuel.smell disappears when gas tank is less than half full.i can't keep my car in the garage.i was told that there was a crack in the gas tank.$3,000 repair!

Cracked/leaking drivers side fuel tank

My car reeks of gas if tank is filled more than half tank full.fuel sprays from high pressure line at the top of the left tank, runs down sides and collects in sheetmetal pan that holds tank up.this car has only 20,000 miles and was out of service from 2015 to 2019 with a massive electrical meltdown of the abs system that completely destroyed the ecbm and the harness plug.after fixing the abs system in 2019, and driving the car again, i noticed strong fuel smell inside the car.i understand gm had a recall on the fuel tank problem but it ended in 2018, before i started having the fuel odor problem.

When i fill my gas tank up over over half a tank the smell of gas inside the car is so bad. I also can smell the gas fumes inside my garage when parked. It also is using also of gas.

My car is not able to be parked within the garage, the fuel smell is blatant and overwhelming, making me dizzy at times. This must be fixed. It is evident at all times, and is very toxic.

The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet corvette. The contact stated that after refueling, strong fuel fumes emitted into the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but it was no diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 13,000.

Gas leak fumes that progressively became stronger until it is now in the cabin. I have taken it to a mechanic for a diagnoses and it is the fuel pump or pumps in the saddle bag gas tanks. Order is stronger after fill-up and i never top off. The fumes are stronger on the driver's side.

Strong odor of gasoline around the car when the tank is full.fuel cap replaced with new one.odor disappears when less than half a tank is left and appears again when the tank is full.

Fuel smell coming from the car after fueling. Having strong fuel smell in garage where my 2008 c6 corvette is parked.

When the car is completely fueled, there's an extremely strong gas smell and fuel leaks under the left fuel tank. This happens until the fuel level is below half tank.

Takata recall my vehicle has had a strong odor of fuel coming from it once the tank is filled up and while the vehicle sits. This odor has become so strong that it fills up my whole garage and slightly the interior of my house. It also gets into the vehicle therefore forcing me to open my windows to air my vehicle out before driving away. I experience being light headed when i drive the vehicle which is extremely unsafe. I have changed out my gas cap and i do not overfill my tank therefore i have eliminated those factors.

The gas tank is leaking through the top and moisture can be seen on the side. There is the smell of gas inside the car. The mechanic alerted me to a recall of the gas tanks for this model vehicle. I have pictures to show how the top of the gas tank is constantly wet. The first time we noticed the smell of gas was in a stationary position while in the garage. The picture is taken from underneath the car looking upwards.

When gas tank is full it smells. Gas. Odor really bad. Inside my garage

The car has a very strong gasoline smell when the gas tank is full.the smell is so strong in the garage that i fear it may cause a fire.

There is a strong smell of fuel coming from the vehicle. Particularly the rear drivers side. When the car is parked in a garage, the smell of fuel is pretty abundant.it is most noticable when the fuel tank is full or near full and while the smell is less intense when the tank is at lower levels, it is still present.this smell can be noticed while driving with the windows down as well, i think the air from around the vehicle gets pulled into the cockpit, during periods of driving and the only way to not have the fuel smell is to close the windows and run the climate system.i'd assume the climate control draws air in from the front if the vehicle which isn't where the smell is emitting from.i've tried cleaning everything i know how to and can safely reach, the smell of fuel doesn't go away. I also do not overfill when refueling my vehicle.some research indicates several other owners of the same 2008 model year vehicles have had similar issues stemming from brittle plastic on the fuel pump cracking and spraying/ vaporizing fuel through these small cracks while the vehicle is running. Apparently, fuel can pool on top of the gas tank and drip down the side of the tank potentially dripping onto the hot exhaust.obvious safety hazard.

The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet corvette. The contact stated that a strong fuel odor emitted around the driver side of the vehicle. The contact was a certified mechanic and noticed that there was a fuel leak on the top driver side fuel tank that needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000.

When filling the car with fuel about the half way mark a srrong ogor of gas can be smelled

Fuel spilled on auto fill shut off.the c6 is rally full when the pump shut off and have minor spills on fill ups.

I received a letter which requested me to take my corvette to get it repaired if i smell gas when the tank was over half full.at the time i received the letter i did not have this problem.about five or six months later the problem occured.when i took itto the chevrolet dealer i was told thatthis was a timed letter andthat the time for a repair had passed and it would cost me about $2,500 to repair by taking off the gas tank and replacing the fuel pump and line wherethe crack occured.this caused me great concern and i shallnever again have a chevrolet or gm car in garage.

After fill up there has been a continuous gas smell, the gas smell fills up the cabin

Fuel pump forms leak on top of tank creating heavy fuel smell that fills garage and enters home. Fuel believed to also leak downward onto exhaust pipes. Occurs while running and fumes occur as parked with motor off.

Consistent fuel smell coming from vehicle.can no longer park the car in the garage in fear of starting a fire and burning the house down and potentially killing my family as it sits next to water heater.gas smell comes from when vehicle is stationary in the garage and there are no visible leaks (spots or puddles underneath the car)

The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet corvette. The contact stated that the gear shift button failed to release. As a result, the vehicle failed to shift gears without warning. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, where it was diagnosed that the gear shift assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 26,000.

Automatic transmission slipping and sluggish shifting between 2nd/3rd/4th gears.when shifting between the referenced gears the transmission slides into the next gear. Gm has looked at it on multiple occasions and repairs were made yet condition remained. Gm then noted the problem but says its within factory tolerancesafter gm's indifference i took the vehicle to multiple private transmission shops. All concluded the same condition. The gm "valve body" is malfunctioning

The 2008 corvette with auto transmission , fails to accelerate after slowing down to a stop light or turn. There is quite a lag b4 the car gets going. Had it to the dealer 7 times. Will go after the florida lemon law, since gm says it is normal to expect lag and hesitation from a corvette. This is not only bad for the top american sports car but a safety issue as well. Hopefully gm will do the right thing and refund me my money at the lemon law hearing and trash the car b4 someone gets killed in it. This has happened since i bought the car and it now has 21000 miles that have not been enjoyable. Stay away from 2008 corvettes with auto transmissions.

Gear shift release button locks and operator is unable to shift vehicle back into park or even reverse at times. Vehicle may also get stuck in reverse and not be able to go back into park nor drive. Issue has happened several times and makes vehicle undriveable due to this malfunction

The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet corvette. After starting the engine, the shifter could not be removed from the park position. The contact indicated that the failure was intermittent. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 15,000.

Engine was misfiring with cel code showing.mechanic decided it was a mechanical issue, while checking valves and valve guides on cylinder 6, removed springs and exhaust valve was loose in valve guide, easily moved side to side in valve guide.in cases where the valve head has broken off, engine seizes and loss of power brakes and steering results as well as loss of coolant and oil onto road. Very dangerous combination of events at highway speed.after removing heads to have them repaired, found that the case hardening on the lifters had become compromised and damaged the camshaft. Engine replaced

I stopped the car for about 1 minute at a drive-thru and put the shift lever in park with the engine on.when attempting to shift back into drive, while pressing on the brake and shift lever, i could not get the lever out of park.after trying several times i turned the engine off and then restarted the car. After several more tries it finally shifted out of park.in reviewing this and other web sites i found that this is a common corvette problem.my car only has 17,728 miles!!i believe that this is a potentially very dangerous situation and could leave one stranded either in poor weather conditions, poor neighborhoods, or in a perilous situation. Due to the extent of the problem involving so many corvettes, i believe that a recall should be made for this problem.

Will not come out of park after being started, this is an interment problem.this corvette has only 75,000 miles on it.

I drove from gadsden al. To chattanooga tn. For a car show at coker tire. I had never had any issues with my 2008 corvette z06 before.i parked the car and it sat for approx 5 hrs. As the group of people i was with began leaving. I entered the corvette sat down buckled up push the clutch pedal down to the floor and attempted to start the car.when i pressed the start button the car lunged forward. I slammed my foot on the brake and shut the ignition off. I almost ran thru a crowd of people. When i settled down i realized the clutch pedal was stuck on the floor. The clutch master cylinder had failed.(but still allowed the car to be started in gear a major design flaw) it did not release the clutch pressure plateas was designed to do.the car was pushed down by hand to the coker garage. I came back monday .with my trailer and hauled it back to gadsden al.( i called gm and opened a case #[xxx]. I explained what happened they seem very concerned about the incident and wanted to know if anyone was hurt. I told the gm rep that was a real safety issue with the design of the corvette clutch system they did not acknowledge that this was an issue was very evasive did not answer my questions. I dropped the corvette off at chevrolet of gadsden and discussed the incident with the service manager. He said he would wait for a reply from gm.i was informed the next day that gm would not participate in the repair or admit there was a safety concerni was told the clutch master cylinder and labor were $900. I will have it repaired elsewherei searched the internet and there are hundreds of case of clutch master cylinder failure on all types of gm vehicles but the corvette z06 is the worst . It is only a matter of time before some one will die ( or probably has already) because of gm refusal to admit and recall the vehicles to be fixed.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

This vehicle in particular and the c6 corvette in general is experiencing a reoccurring problem with the transmission becoming locked in the "park" position of the automatic transmission.this problem intermittently occurs when stop the vehicle and place it in park often times it will not come out of the park position.i was stopped behind a stalled vehicle and assisted that vehicle in getting out of a moving lane of traffic.when i re-entered my vehicle i could not move it because it was locked in the park position.my vehicle then created another potential life threatening situation for me and other drivers approaching from the rear.

After starting the automatic will often not shift out of park. After turning off the engine and/or waiting 2-3 min. Sometimes it will allow shifting and sometimes this may take several tries. When away from home this could become a major safety problem if someone needed medical attention etc. So far, i have always been able to get it work after time, but as i have checked on the web, others have been stuck. Also, a lot of people disable the safety "lockout" (which seems to be the problem) which is there to make sure the car is started in park. The dealers know about this problem on c-6 corvettes but want $$$ to replace the entire shift assembly. Without a mandated recall a lot of people will use the instructions on the web to defeat the lockout creating safety issues for current and future owners when cars are sold. This happens almost 50% of the time i start the car and seems to be getting more frequent and take longer to function.

While parked, after starting the engine, even with my foot on the brake, the car won't shift out of park.

Automatic transmission having issues shifting out of and into park. Vehicle was stationary in a parking lot.

Upon stopping my vehicle, i placed it in park.when i took my foot off the brake, the car went forward.when i placed the car in reverse and took my foot off the brake, the car went forward again.i nearly pinned an individual between my car and the one parked in front of me.the car was towed to a chevrolet dealer who diagnosed the problem as a broken cable between the transmission lever and the transmission.the dealer indicated this was not an uncommon problem.my concern is this mechanical failure could result invery serious injury.

Vehicle won'tshift out of park intermittantly. Dealer states this is common the shifter needs replaced for $700. Safety concern for being stranded in dangerous situation.

At first i couldnā€™t get it out of park sometimes. Then it became more frequent & finally it wouldnā€™t go into reverse or park from drive. The only available gears were neutral & drive. My son had to come & disconnect the battery because it wouldnā€™t turn off all lights & accessories. Since it wouldnā€™t start in neutral i had to have it towed to my chevrolet dealership. This car only has 34469 miles on it so iā€™m not understanding how this could be happening! as it has now sat in the repair yard since july 29, 2021 waiting on parts to fix the problem to the tune of $1300 i think gm should cover that cost. I have kept this car in excellent shape & am proud of it, i get many remarks on its beauty! there is no reason this should happen on a car with 34468 miles on it. I have since seen many forums where a lot of other corvette owners have had the same issue!$1300 is just the cost to repair the car to get it started so they can perform the maintenance i had an appointment for in the first place!

The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet corvette. While driving 40 mph, the clutch pedal was depressed and traveled to the floorboard. The contact stated that the vehicle remained engaged in gear. The vehicle was towed to paso robles chevrolet (2485 theatre dr, paso robles, ca 93446, (805) 238-7800) where it was diagnosed that the clutch master cylinder failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 10,500.

Vehicle continually is stuck in park.vehicle has 26k miles.it has been going on for months, since april of 2018. Research from corvette forum shows this is a continual issue with c6 corvettes (2005-2013), and there are hundreds of complaints.i contacted chevrolet and they will do nothing...they should issue a voluntary recall or a technical service bulletin as this is a safety issue

Just as i got home and parked my car in the garage, i moved the automatic shifter to park and felt something break.i discovered that the shifter cable to the transmission case broke, which left the car in neutral.this would be very dangerous if it happened to someone who parked on a hill, since the emergency brake isn't strong enough to hold the car.the car had to be towed to the dealer, which surprisingly had the part in stock (a sign that this happens often enough that they keep the part on hand?).six hundred dollars later, the dealer replaced the cable, i have to cross my fingers that this part doesn't break again.

Ocassionally, the car will not shift out of park. The engine will start as normalbut it's hung in park. After we turn the car off, get out wait a few minuteswehave been able to restart the car and drive home. So farwe have been lucky and not stranded, but realize it's just a matter of time before we are stranded in a parking lot or remote location away from home or help.

Could not get my car out of park.

The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet corvette. While driving 40 mph, the clutch pedal failed to disengage and became stuck to the floorboard. The vehicle was coasted to the side of the road. The contact turned the engine off and restarted the vehicle, but was unable to drive. The contact also stated that when the vehicle was restarted, it accelerated due to the clutch being in gear. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing of the clutch failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer informed the contact that the vin was not included in a recall and did not offer any further assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet corvette. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the brakes engaged without manual force and also failed to stop with the illumination of the service active handling light. In addition, the cruise control failed to function. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis but they were unable to duplicate the problem. The manufacturer was not notified. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 59,000.

Catastrophic abs system failure.while traveling about 30 mph on dry pavement, the tail end of the car suddenly fishtailed left then right, turning around 180 degrees, totally out of control.the right rear wheel struck the curb of the median, severely bending the right rear wheel, and damaging the right rear wheel bearing too.upon examination of the electronic brake control module and main engine harness plug that connects to it, i found massive electrical damage with a hole burned completely through the plug and receptacle, and printed circuit board of the electronic brake control module.the entire abs pump assembly and ebcm had to be replaced and a new plug spliced into the main engine harness.i notified gm but they refused to stand behind the product or help with the repair.

Traveling at 65 mph with the cruise control on driving on a straight 4 lane divided highway, i brake and pressed the clutch pedal to down shift to make an exit.i exited, made the turn and started accelerating.i notice a loss of power and the steering wheel shook.there was no message that the active handling was engaged.i stopped and turned off the engine.all was fine when i drove again.however, it keeps happening sporadically without any cause.once the service active handling system lit on the control panel but after turning off the engine it has not appeared again. Yet, the active handling system(or something) keep tapping the brakes making the car lose power and the steering shake.

Driving normal citystreets 25mph when engine noise started, went another 2 blocks, engine stopped running, towed to chevy dealer. If this had happened on major highway, possible catastrophic effects.no power steering ,brakes, engine oil on roadway, steering wheel lock, wrecks ,injuries or possible fatalities. Engine head poor workmanship in these ls7 engines.

Steering jerked, brakes applied for a second, cruise control turned off, no brake lights, and service active handling message appeared. Happend more than once.

Service active handlibg system light came on after having new brakes installed. Had the brake pedal sensor replaced. After about 1 month the light started coming back on and shifter started locking up in park.after 1 month had shifter assyembly replaced, started to lock up again, they replaced shifter assembly saying it was a bad part. After about another month the shifter started locking up again. Going to have them check the braking sensor again as they forgot to check the other day forgeting they replaced it. I am 60, going to radiation appointments and this is very unacceptable for the calliber of a corvette.this needs to be a recall.

Thank you

Left rear brake was applied when driving over 60 mph causing car to slow down and slide to the left. Active handling on showed on dash of my 2008 corvette.

The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet corvette. While driving 50 mph, the traction control and abs indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the passenger side hub speed sensor failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. It was diagnosed that the electronic brake control module failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 7,135....updated 12/06/16

I own a 2008 chevrolet corvette c6 base model with currently about 62,000 miles.it has now had 11 steering rack failures since i bought it used in august 2013 at 18,000 miles.it has been in the shop almost continuously since august 14, 2017 ' as of this week that's 6 months in the shop without normal use of the car.to have this many major safety-related parts failures over 4 years at normal use (@ 10,000 miles / year) is inexcusable, frustrating, and potentially dangerous.i am writing this letter to document steps i have taken to diagnose this issue, the attempts to inform gm of the issue to prevent future risks and aggravation to other customers, to reduce cost and risk to gm, and to be compensated for the aggravation and extraordinary effort and time i have had to invest in this issue.the 'oem' rack from gm parts for my '08 corvette is part #19330457 and is approximately $1200.there are several hours of labor to remove and replace the rack and realign the front wheels each time it is replaced.thus each replacement job costs $2000 in total.had i not bought a 3rd party extended warranty i would have been out of pocket over $10,000! in repairs on just the steering of this car.in sum, over 4 years my warranty company has paid over $10,000, i have paid over $2000 out of pocket, and it has been in the shop for a total of 8 months so far on its steering-rack related issues.

[xxx]. Gm contact [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Brake-automatic transmission interlock often fails to allow shifting out of park.brake light fuse & switch are operational. Transmission shift lever solenoid does not click/release when brake pedal is depressed. This results in a car that cannot be moved.

Driver's door release not working again after being repaired years ago. Cannot leave car without using the emergency release lever.

Car is smelling a strong odor of fuel which has been a problem for 2008 corvettes

Gear shift release button locks and operator is unable to shift vehicle back into park or even reverse at times. Vehicle may also get stuck in reverse and not be able to go back into park nor drive. Issue has happened several times and makes vehicle undriveable due to this malfunction

The car has a very strong gasoline smell when the gas tank is full.the smell is so strong in the garage that i fear it may cause a fire.

Fuel guage goes hay wire after filling up,service fuel system lite comes on,after few miles goes back to readinig correct, til half tank then goes crazy agian,on going proplem with all c6 corvettes with around 50000 miles on them

Automatic shifter assembly intermittently gets stuck in park.the condition continues to deteriorate. The problem occurs when the car is in park.the problem is occurring more often now than in the past.

Cant get into car with fob when 45 degrees or colder outside, car wont start, shows no fob deceted, once it warms up outside everything is normal, during summernever a proplem, once it starts getting cold ouside wont start, big proplem

2008 chevrolet corvette with unintended acceleration. Consumer states that his vehicle accelerated from 45 mph to 95 mph.
