Read complaints for CHEVROLET CORVETTE (2006)

The check airbag light randomly turns on and off. This is a common occurrence with c6 corvettes

Air bag light on dashboard comes on intermittently.

Air bag light illuminates on dash for no reason. It comes on and goes off periodically for no reason.

Red airbag warning light on dashboard comes on and off intermittently.i have learned that when the red light is on, the srs (supplemental restraint system, i.e. Airbag) is not active. This is a clear safety issue.

Air bag light is on.common problem with corvettes that gm will not recall

Airbag light comes on and only goes off after restarting in the car

Drivers airbag red light on instrument panel stays on frequently. Most of the time it stays lit after starting the car. I have had it pop on after hitting a bump a couple times.

Drivers side airbag warning light on and off intermittently.

Instrument panel airbag warning light stays on. Problem seems to be related to a yellow wiring harness connector under the passenger seat.

On wednesday 7 nov 2012, i was driving home from work at approx 4:30pm and while changing lanes (from the rh lane to the lh lane, to make a left turn in approx half a mile) when the front driver's side tires popped and i spun, crossed the median, cross two southbound lanes, struck an electricity pole, spun again and finally came to rest on the sidewalk & grass. Neither stability control nor traction control activated once the car began to spin (counter clockwise) which created an uncontrollable and unrecoverable spin. The failure of these systems activate and operate properly could have killed me and destroyed the car. Both systems were fully operational and on. Also, the side airbag did not deploy when the impacted the pole on the driver's side door.

Air bag light comes on frequently during normal driving. Car has never been in an accident and is in excellent condition otherwise. Air bag light will turn off intermittently during normal driving with no explanation.

The red airbag / srs indicator will intermittently display on the dash (this began approximately 2 years ago). Initial displays would reset upon cycling the ignition. The display has now been on for three days and has not reset. The dealer only speculates as to the problem and it has not been resolved. Automotive forums indicate that this is a chronic and ongoing problem with this particular make, model, and year vehicle. The concern is that the srs system is non-functional during these intermittent times and presents a significant driver safety concern.

Active handling system appeared and my brakes felt different. The car idled differently too. Felt like it was missing a cylinder.i believe this is an ongoing problem and is dangerous.

My automatic shifter gets stuck in park.i already had the dealership replace the shifter a few years ago but the problem still remains.once i start the car, the system does not tell the shifter to unlock and therefore i can not get it in gear.i have to play with it several time.it may take less than 1 minute to engage while at other times it may take 5 minutes. I have read in the corvette forum that it is happening to quite a few corvette owners.this is happening much more frequently than before.

First the roof blew off.the communication message center gives mis information.the car has always made a grinding sound under hood at start up.problemsmactivating eelectrical stability system.also after roof repair roof rattles and always sound loose.

Owned 2006 corvette convertible 3/15/06, has been in the dealer service shop for total of 26 days for same reason every two days system goes dead.

Driving at night on my way home, my low beams headlights when out. High beams still worked, so when i got home started checking the fuses and relays but they were all good, after 2 hours i restarted the car and low beams were working fine, left the car running for 20 minutes and headlights when out again. Appears to be a heating problem at the fuse box.i believe this is a safety issue that gm needs to fix.

Headlamps intermittent dues to what is reportedly a faulty circuitboard within the fuse-box... So far only the headlamps are affected (as well as the driver's door opening system)... Repair-shop and online forums indicate it a common-problem with many c6 corvettes and expensive: $600+.

While driving, thecheck charging system light come on, voltage on the gage went to 11.5 volt. I change the alternator, after installing the new rebuild on the gage when up to 14.5. I took it for a test drive. That onlylasted 20 minutes. Within 2 saturday, i have added 6 alternator to this car, they only last 20 minute after in stalling.had the car check out. I was told that it was a bad alternator. I have never changed so many alternator in my life on one car. Taking it into a shop this weekend again and let them install there $800.00 alternator and see what happen.

Low beam headlights just turn off by themselves and would not turn back on.

While driving on dark road my low beam lights shut off. This was very dangerous and it could have easily cost me my life. This should be a recall. How many people will die before chevrolet decides to do a recall?!!!

Driving at night on my way home, my low beam headlights when out. High beams still worked, so when i got home i started checking the fuses and relays but they were all good.after 2 hours when the car cooled down i restarted the car and low beams were working fine, left the car running for 20 minutes and headlights when out again. Appears to be a heating problem at the fuse box. I believe this is a safety issue that can result in fatalities if gm doesn't fix.

My situation is unique, but it happens hundreds of times every.in nov and dec of 2013 and in jan 2014 my low-beam headlights would go out periodically and i took my car to a chevrolet dealership who could not determine the specific problem. And i was not told there had been hundreds of complaints about this same issue from other corvette owners. Why do you think i was not told about hundreds of other complaints?did gm keep it a secret from all the dealers all over the world? when there are hundreds of complaints and problems on one single issue, is that not something that is passed to the dealerships as something to be aware of, to look for, as well as a clue as to how to find and fix the problem?the chevrolet dealer in jan they said they could fix the problem by replacing my electrical box at a cost of just over $1,000.00.i declined, that shotgun approach. They did not find the exact problem as per their invoice. Their shotgun fix would have never made its way to become a gm recall issue.i was told yesterday by the gm dealer they found some wires that was causing my problem.when there is a recall & a gm customer has that recall problem & it's a known potentially serious safety issue and the recall has been announced, it seems the prudent, the reasonable, the common sense, the most cost effective way to solve yet another problem with the recall is for gm to authorize a fix when the the customer is in the dealership with the specific recall problem as in my case yesterday. That is the most common sense safe and cost effective way to handle a situation like mine. I am very disappointed that gm would not authorize a fix right then (yesterday) it would have in the long run saved money for everyone and it would have been cost and safety effective, it's a common sense approach that the best minds at gm overlooked.

While driving at night on the interstate, the low beam headlights shut off. All other lights wored fine. I was able to switch to hi beams and continue home.car was purchased used less than 1 month ago. Search of corvette forums online reveals that this is a fairly common problem and is related to the fuse block under the hood. Chevrolet knows about the problem but has done nothing about it. The cost of replacing the fuse block (approx. 600.00) should not be borne by the consumer due to a safety issue.

Engine stalling.

Car would not shift out of park.

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette. The contact stated that when the vehicle reached normal operating temperatures, the low beam lights became inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. However, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact received a notification for recall nhtsa campaign number: 14v251000 (electrical system, exterior lighting) but the part needed to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 119,000.

While driving the verhicle on i-55 the warning light on the dash blinked and the lights went out. I was on an elevated section of i-55 north of laplace, la. And there was no place to pull off. I turned the emergency flashers on and continue to drive off of the elevated portion of i-55 to the first exit and pulled into a service station. I turned the ignition off and let the car sit for about ten minutes and the lights worked, however the check engine light is on. Drove to my daughters house approx 15 miles and the lights went out again.the lights worked this morning.i went online and found out that there is a recall specifically for that problem but my car is not included. This is a very dangerous problem.

Car will not shift out of park. Many owners have the same problem. The shift lock solenoid fails and you cannot get car into gear.

2006 chevy convertible corvette (my birthday present to myself) has failed to crank on three different occasions from may 06 through oct 06. The first and second time within a month. Vehicle had to be towed to closet dealership on each occasion. Dealership has been unable to determine cause ofproblem.feel uncomfortable in going out of town - don't trust vehicle not to crank.

My low beam lights stopped working. Got had driven to a location in daylight. 2 hours later (dark) i started the car and the low-beams didn't come on. I got home (on fog lamps) and inspects the fuse box. Thought the low beam relay was faulty so went in another vehicle to purchase one. Replacing the relay, the lights came back on. I thought the problem was fixed until the next day, the same thing happened. This is when i did some research and found my car is part of a gm recall; gm recall #: n130146nhtsa recall #:14v-251date issued:may 28, 2014this same symptom has happened every day since.i booked my car into lonestar chevrolet, houston, to have this taken care of. The technician, manager and chevrolet contact center all told me the same thing. "the parts to repair this aren't ready yet (4 months!!). You are perfectly safe to drive on high-beams." in my opinion, it is irresponsible to tell your customer that there is nothing that can be done and to drive illegally at night in the mean-time.

I was driving down the road and the headlights just quit. This time i had high beams but no low beams.the next time i drove the car i had no low or high beams. The last time i drove the car both lights worked as i started the car but stopped working within about 2 minutes.

2006 chevrolet corvette. Consumer states loss of headlamps when engine heats up. *tgw

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette. When the engine was started, a "service active handling" message appeared on the instrument panel. The error message was cleared by the contact. While driving at any speed, the brakes activated independently. The vehicle was pulled over. The vehicle was not taken to a mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 10v172000 (steering). The failure mileage was unknown.

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette. While attempting to drive the vehicle at night, the contact became aware that the headlights failed to illuminate. The vehicle was serviced under nhtsa campaign number: 14v251000 (electrical system, exterior lighting), but the remedy failed to repair the vehicle. The evening of the recall repair, the headlights failed to illuminate. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 133,900.

Car would not start after setting 4 days in my garage.charged the battery and car would not start after two days setting in my garage.charged the battery again and car would not start after setting two days in my garage.gm had installed a new battery just 400 miles ago.appears to be excessive battery drain.took it in to dealer and they replaced a module in the driver side door.went to pick up the car and when i tried to start the car, the battery was dead again.dealer installed another new battery.have not had a chance to use the car (2006 z06) since the dealership visit january 18, 2007, due to winter weather conditions.

While driving, at night, both low-beam headlights went out simultaneously and could not be switched back on.i used the fog lights to drive home on surface streets.i later determined that the problem was an intermittent connection in circuit no. 1970, within the main fuse/relay backplane itself.the circuit opens at operating temperatures, but works when the car fuse box is cold, making diagnosis more difficult.the backplane cannot be serviced and must be replaced.

We had a 2006 corvette on our car lot. It had a dead battery when we got it. We put in a new battery and took it to the local gm dealer to have the door locks reprogrammed. It sat there for months, and the battery would often go dead, because as i understand it, the electronics drain the batteries in those cars while they sit, shut off. One day we went to jump the battery, and i crawled into the trunk with the only key to the car, which fit under the trunk, because the doors wouldn't open with the remote. After the jump i moved the car into another parking spot, and found that i couldn't get out. I happened to know about the cable for the door located in the back of the trunk, so i dove into the trunk and pulled it, but it didn't work. I then tried the sunroof switch, or what i thought was the sunroof switch to no avail. I went back to the trunk and found a trunk release that popped the back hatch. It worked. I did not test every system in the car. The car was running, so it's possible that the low voltage problem might have cleared up on it's own. But i wonder, what if i would have shut off the car? what if nobody knew i was there? what if the car was on fire or in water?what if i was sick, disabled, or injured, and couldn't get to the lever in the back seat? what if it was an extremely hot day? what if i didn't have anything available to break out a window? the key to the trunk and the remote were locked in the car with me. The person on the outside stood there helpless. So, i googled "trapped in a corvette with electronic door locks", and found that it has happened to others, including a six year old. I hope you will investigate this problem further.

When the ambient air temperature is over 95 degrees the following electrical gremlins occur on my 2006 corvette convertible.1.when the memory button on the door is pressed, the steering wheel will go to its preset position.the seat does not move.this happens about 85% of the time.does not happen when the outside temperature is below 80 degrees.2.with the car running, ac and radio on, if the memory button on the door is pressed, the radio will turn off along with the air conditioning system.most times the radio will come back on within a minute.the ac must be turned on with the ac control buttons.

I have a 2006 chevrolet corvette and it has a part that is in the process of failing. The dash control unit (part # 25938052) is flashing, which my chevrolet dealer tells me it is going to fail. This is an important safety issue, as i could loose my defroster capability, front and back while driving. I have visited 5 different gm dealers and they all say the part is either back ordered or discontinued. I can't get a straight answer. Since this part was installed in corvettes up to 2012 model year, i find chevrolets indifference to this safety issue disturbing. I have attempted to contact chevrolet online several times and they recently cut me off and have failed to respond to e-mails. I have heard anecdotally, that chevrolet has many parts "back-ordered" wink, wink. They keep trying to sell me a new car, but why would i buy another car from them with this behavior? the part still works for now, but it blinks constantly and i never know when it is going to fail. Isn't gm required by law to sell replacement parts for a reasonable time?

My automatic shifter jammed in the d location and would only go to neutral and would not go into reverse or park, and the doors would not open with the button, this shifter has jammed in park in the past. This car only has 26k miles on it. And is not driven in bad weather. Not a good feeling to be traped in your car.

Own a 2006 chevy corvette.electrical problems started after 5 months of owning it and have continued to date.it has been at the dealership more then at our home.it has been towed in 8 times for electrical problems.vehicle goes completely dead.dealership has replaced the battery 3 times and the vehicle still is dead.drove to work within 4 hours the vehicle couldn't return home.dealer swore it was fix on 5/29/2008 at 3:30 but by 4pm the dealership called the vehicle was dead.they have replaced computer modules, brakes switches and batteries.car went into the shop on 5/5/2008 and still is in the shop on 5/30/08.problem started within 5 months of buying the vehicle. Now we own a vehicle the has been towed in dead 8 times, in the shop for over 45 days total and still dead and still no resolution.

Drivingi95 temp about 80 fnorain dry very light traffic at about 70 mph no moon lightselectorset on autofront lights both low beam went out flipped to high beam still in auto no lights braking turn off to side of road stop move selector to manual from auto no low beams but have high beamsshut car off let it sit while checking fusesall fuse ck ok so changed them anywayclose coversset light selector to auto light lowand start the car light came on both high and low in 20 sec. Light s go outplace light selector in manualno lows again then flipped to high beam drive homewith high beamsso now it is not light or relay it may very well be a temperature issueunder the hood get warm lights go off.

Car sticks in park. Will not go in gear.

About 3 months ago my 2006 corvette's dic said please service the traction control system and the traction control off indication light came on. Later that day i went to take the car to be serviced. On the way the check engine light came on but the other lights had gone away. At the dealership it was plugged up to a computer i was told it said there was a leak from the gas cap, which doesn't close properly at times.i was also told the computer said nothing about the traction control system and just to watch it and come back another time if i kept having problems with it. The warning message or light didn't come on again for about 4-5 weeks. When it did i was driving the car and after hitting a bump the light and warning came on. When the car was turn off and restarted it would go away.i had not been driving it often because i had another car. The past week i had to drive it every day to work due to it now being my only car. The light and warning now comes on almost every time it is driven. The car is telling me the traction control system is off, but when you are driving it sometimes pulls the car to the left without me moving the wheel.when this happens the break makes a grinding noise and if you place your foot on top of the break it feels as though it is being pumping up and down. Two times now while driving down the interstate to work the car has pulled itself off the road causing me to almost wreck and causing others wreck behind me. I have set up an appointment for tomorrow 11/17/2009 before going to work but was told they are unsure (even though this is major and i have an extended warranty) if they will have a rental car so i can go to work. If they don't i will be force to drive my car until they do and i can get off work. I can't lose my professional job over transportation. This really upsets me because i have no other choice of transportation and it puts not only me but others at risk because this car with 33,000 miles is faulting.

Re: gm recall #13146underhood bussed electrical center (ubec) housing will expand causing failure of low-beam headlights.i received recall notice in july 2014 but the problem has yet to be remedied.called chevrolet customer assistance center in early october, they advised that problem is "..being worked on." .3+ months seems to be an excessive time to wait for a remedy.

4/2015 car was at dealership for body work, while it was there, recall work was supposed to be done, gm recall 123146, i was told that this was done and it was reported to gm as "work done" fast forward to 8/2018 car was driven at night and loss of low beam headlights was experienced, same thing happened next day. These are the symptoms of the recall before "the fix" upon further investigation it was found that the recall was not done. I have pictures of the fuse box and i have pictures of what its supposed to look like when the fix is done.

2006 corvette dead battery syndrome. Car after sitting in the driveway for more than 7 days will not start in the cold weather(under 45 degree). Bring it to the dealer they charged the battery and cannot reproduce the issue. It happens more than 3 times already. Sometime i have the car towed to the dealership.

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette. The contact stated that while traveling 55 mph, the head lights abruptly shut off without warning. The contact utilized the fog nights in order to view the road. The failure occurred on seven different occasions. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was diagnosed that the fuse housing needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure.the failure mileage was 93,200 and the current mileage 93,500.

I got a service active handling light that came on the dash two days ago, and went after restarting the car a few times. While i was drive yesterday and doing about 70 mph, the car pulled violently to the left and i had to make a rapid correction to avoid hitting the truck next to me. As that happened i instinctively glanced at my instrument cluster and the service active handling, seems to have lit up the instance the car made to sudden leftswing. I've read on the corvette forums, that this seems to be a problem that has been plaguing the c6 z06. This also happened a couple of years while i was approaching a stop light and was going about 25 to 30 mph. I don't use the car that often, only while i'm on vacation, which is about 3 to 4 times per year.the light will come on from time to time but the sudden left swing only happened twice.

I have owned a 2006 corvette for about 4 years now. The "service active handling system" light comes on in the dic. It used to come on once in a while. It now occurs every time i drive the car. About 10% of the time one of the brakes will instantaneously come on hard then releases in addition to the "service active handling system" light coming on. I live in wisconsin so i don't drive it all year, but in the summer i drive it every day (its my primary summer vehicle). I have been working on corporate type aircraft for 37+ years so i am accustomed to inspecting complex systems. I checked under the steering column and found an orange "wedge" installed into the steering wheel position sensor and noticed the electrical lead going to the sensor appears to be too short with the tilt / telescopic column adjusted full aft and up. I called a chevrolet dealership to "fix the fix" but they told me my car isn't covered by recall "n100118" by vin #. They informed me that they show a record of a dealership working on this system back in 2012? i can only assume that the dealership installed the orange wedge (recall # n100118) at that time. I contacted the chevrolet owners center and they told me the same thing, no coverage due to vin #. They did document my complaint with case # [xxx]. At the end of last season i was driving with my wife in the car at night, on a busy interstate, in a pouring rain. I was in the center lane when the stability system slammed on my left front brake. It happened for just an instant but that was long enough to send me partially into the lane to left of me. Because of the rain the car lost traction and got a little "squirrelly" during recovery. It was a very scary ride that could easily have ended up as a multi-car crash.i could use some assistance.parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).*cc

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette. The contact stated the vehicle had a recurring failure with the stability control immediately after 6,500 miles. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for the failure, numerous times but the dealer stated the vehicle was normal; however, the failure became severe. The vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was 48,000 and the current mileage was 47,750.

I drive a 2006 chevy corvette.i was driving out of a gas station when i applied some extra gas, giving the car some unwanted acceleration as i turned.the "active handling" sign lit up and the car bucked from left to right, and back again.thankfully i was on a wide road and was able to come to a stop without injury to myself or others (or the car).afterwards, a message popped up reading "service active handling system" and did not go away until i had shut the car off for a while.the problem has not happened since, but it did worry me enough to share the story here.hope it helps.

The service active handling light appeared and almost lost control of the car because of a rf brake locking up. The car was going about 40 mph in a city street.

I have a 2006 corvette, the service active handling message came on while driving . I carried it to my dealer and they installed a clip in the steering column and charged $130.

2006 chevrolet corvette 79,000 miles, service active handling light comes on the display and also the traction control light at same time, once the rear wheel seized at 5mph, i was told by other corvette owners that this was a problem with 2005-2009 corvettes with tilt and telescopic steering column , however my car only has tilt steering and the problem seems to be the same as the recall that general motors applied to the cars with tilt and telescopic steering column.

Message of "service active handling" comes up in display while driving.usually during or after making turn.message does not appear when car is restarted.it will appear at odd times without warning or noise.

The service active handling warning light came on while i was driveing.i looked up the vin number and according to chevrolet my vehicle is not part of the recall.this is odd due to the fact that the same model and year built in january 2006 has the same issue.chevrolet has refused to fix this issue which only takes a small clip installed to repair.according to blogs it could cause the cars brakes to make the care vear to the left or right while driving.this is dangerous that it may happen.

My son owns a 2006 corvette c6. He was driving for 2 years when his car went out of control and suffered a traumatic brain injury, in a coma for 6 months.his car had a "service traction stability control" indication on the dic twice within a 30 day period. He was quick to service this warning immediately with the chevrolet dealership as the car was under warranty. Now i understand there is a real problem with the traction stability control for 2006 corvette and gm has now issued a recall. To late my son has brain damage.

Frequently service active handling indicator comes on and stability control is disabled.has been taken in for service several times overthe past 5 years, but problem has never been fixed by dealer.the last 2 times this happened a front wheel locked up for a few seconds causing car to abruptly swerve.

Driving back from lunch to the office i was changing lanes on a heavily traffic area. Was going about 30mph when the car started to fish tail out of control going sideways into the side of the road and slamming into a electrical post. Both myself and my passenger were in awe. I could not control the car and it seems eventhough i took my foot off the gas it kept increasing. The hit was so hard it damaged the post and the car severely. I still do not know what happened since it has traction control it should have never fishtailed and at that low speed. No tire marks or any sign of acceleration were found. I am trying to find answers to what happened. Its scary.

"service active handling system" and "service vehicle soon" light both came on today. Researched on-line and determined that this is a very dangerous issue, potentially fatal.

When driving the service active handling system warning light appears on the dash. I have had the original recall fix performed on my car (orange/red clip) and had the steering wheel positioning sensor replaced. The problem is now back again.

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette. The contact stated that the service active handling system light would illuminate on the instrumental panel while stopped. The vehicle had not been inspected by a dealer nor had it been repaired. The manufacturer had not been notified. The failure mileage was approximately 17,000. Updated 08/01/11*ljthe consumer reported the problem to the dealer and they claimed they fixed the problem, but the problem continued. Updated 08/11/11

My 2006 corvette has problems with the"active handling system".the car has been taken back to the dealer 3 times when the "service active handling system" message appears on the dic.the dealer fix is only short term before the problem reappears.i feel that this could be a major safety issue and needs immediate attention. Thank-you.

While driving my 2006 corvette with 15,000 miles it suddenly veered to the rightpulling the car off the road. The "check stability control system" came on the in dash computer.

My electronic stability control comes on regularly especially when i hit sand in driveway and tire spins which i expect but at other times the warning light comes on without any tire spin or condition that would warrant this.turning from a stand still is another time the lights will come on without any tire spin. My wife drives this car now and i got a newer one. I am worried about her safety as she is an older lady [xxx] and if brakes locked up or steering she would not know how to handle the situation.

I own a 2006 corvette and while driving on highway 270 in germantown, md the right front wheel of the car locked up for no reason. I was not braking turning or changing speed. I was cruising at a constant 60 mph when it all of a sudden locked up the front right wheel. It caused the car to run off the road into the shoulder! i was very lucky to be exactly where i was at the time or someone may have been killed! i looked into gm recall info and found there has been 3 different fixes for this problem. I also found that 2 of the 3 fixes have been done to this car by the previous owner and neither fix has worked. I am bringing the car into the dealer tomorrow after some quick research i found this problem to be very common to the 2005-2008 corvettes. I can't believe gm has done nothing about this!

2006 corvette without telescoping wheel.service active handling and service traction control lights show on dash display.random pop up when driving, sitting at stop lights, idling.car has gone into limp mode. Car has an electronic malfunction history dating back to 10/08 and is now beginning to do the same thing.

From time to time i receive a driver information center (dic) message "service active handling system".i have researched this message and have found there is a technical service bulletin issued by gm covering this issue.i have reseated the connector on the steering column outlined by the tsb eliminating the dic message for a few months when the message then returns.while this problem has not resulted in catastrophic failure, it has the potential to do so.i am concerned about this dic message and the potential that active handling could be compromised in such a way that the driver of our vehicle could loose control resulting in an accident.odi investigation # ea09-002.

When i move the sterring wheel completely to the left the car have and interruption and pull to the left or right and theservice active handling system message appears

I was driving on interstate 40 going around 75mph when my car jumped to the right about 4 feet and then my brakes went crazy.it felt like i had 4 flat tires.i managed to pull to the shoulder and when i was stopped i noticed my service active handling warning was on.i had to disable the active handling to finish my trip.it was a good thing it was early in the morning or i would have wreck if there were other cars on the road.i took the car to the dealership and they replaced the active handling brake module.i have never had any problems with the car until this happened.this really scared me and i believed it should be checked out.

Brakes locked up while driving down busy road. Pulled to side of road and turned of active handling system. Drove short distance to home

In 2010, there was a recall on my vehicle for "steering wheel position sensor." the issue was the "service active handling" warning notice was intermittently appearing in the driver information center.the remedy was to install a plastic clip.this remedy did not fix the issue and i was told i needed a new "steering wheel position sensor" and that it was not covered by the recall and it would be at my expense.i did not have the repair done at that time because i rarely drive the car, and the problem was intermittent.the dealership advised me to have a front end alignment and that seemed to fix the problem for awhile.the "service active handling" warning has returned, and i'm scheduled to have the sensor replaced for about $800.this seems to be a widely known problem in the 2005-2006 corvettes, and the plastic clip did not fix the issue.i'm extremely concerned as there have been many bad accidents due to the active handling system engaging at random times and causing crashes.why didn't gm acknowledge that the plastic clip did not remedy the issue and why am i having to pay for a repair that is wide spread and that the recall repair is known to not have worked.

Attention needed!!active handling system very dangerous failure mode!!!driving at 50mph the active handling system suddenly (and very violently) locks up both front and rear passenger wheels, bringing the car to a halt while throwing the vehicle to the left lane. The dealership said since they couldn't duplicate the event or find a computer code to verify, then can do nothing to help me.this is a very dangerous failure mode!!very easily i could have killed a pedestrian / motorcyclist in the lane to my left!!!

Approximately one year ago, my 2006 corvette started showing three messages: service active handling/service traction control/service abs.i was going to have the dealer take a look at the vehicle, but then the messages went away.they would come on and off, but it was not a very frequent occurrence.yesterday, 07/28/2013, not only did the messages appear, but my abs kicked in while going around a corner and i almost lost control of my vehicle.i shut down the vehicle and restarted it, but all three messages came back on within 30 seconds of driving it.i no longer feel safe driving my 2006 corvette with only 40,000 miles on it.

Began to notice a sensed vehicle self steering sensation on 7/12/17. The vehicle feels like the rear wheels are sliding around with no traction or as if the rear wheels are steering themselves. It is occurring at all speeds, even while driving up an inclined driveway.

Back in 2007 i took my 2006 corvette in to have it serviced because i had a message come up that said to service active handling system. There ended up being a recall on this and it was fixed. This lasted for just over a year and the message came up again, i went by the dealer who did the work and they said they would have to charge me for fixing it again because it had been over a year. My question is; has chevrolet got a fix for this or just a bandaid? i have read that this can be a dangerous situation.

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette.while attempting to make a small u-turn at 5 mph, the contact heard a loud banging noise near the rear of the vehicle.he noticed that the electronic control warning indicator was illuminated on the instrument panel.at anytime while driving, unwarranted brake activation could occur and increase the risk of a crash.the contact is in the process of taking the vehicle to the dealer to have it properly diagnosed and remedied. The failure and current mileages were 18,000.updated 5/14/09 updated 05/14/09.

Service active handling error message on 2006 corvette.

I own a 2006 corvette manufactured in february of 2006.from early 2009 (just prior to the vehicle going out of warranty) i began experiencing problems with the service active handling system (sahs) warning light coming on.initially this occurred when the vehicle was making a turn or when it hit a bump on the highway and the warning would clear itself periodically.i took the vehicle in to two separate chevrolet dealerships (groth bros. Chevrolet, livermore, ca and dublin chevrolet cadillac, dublin, ca).neither facility was able to definitively diagnose or correct the problem.dublin chevrolet cadillac did perform the recall service in which they added a retention clip to the wiring harness in the tilt/telescopic steering column.they performed this repair at my insistence and at a cost to me because my vehicle was manufactured the month after the last manufacturing month of the recall.the addition of the retention clip remedied the problem temporarily but it did return.the sahs warning now comes on and stays on nearly all the time.i have significant concerns over the fact that gm has been unable to definitively determine the cause of the problem especially now that i have learned that many owners of 2005/2006 corvettes have had a related issue with the front brakes locking up.i have not experienced this phenomenon yet but believe that it probably will eventually occur.i brought all of this to the attention of gm?s corporate service complaint department, asking that they find a way to repair the vehicle once and for all, at their expense, in light of the fact that it began at the time the warranty was ending.the request was denied.

The "service active handling system" warning activates on my dash and car drives erratic. If i pull of the road and turn car off and then turn the car back on, the system will reset itself.unfortunately the warning re-activates a day or so later.the car only has 16,500 miles on it.

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette. While reversing the vehicle at approximately 5 mph, the service ride control warning indicator illuminated. The contact also observed that the steering wheel pulled in the opposite direction occasionally. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 10v172000 (steering). The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

I have a 2006 corvette and the "service active handling" message is displayed on my dic.when this message is diplayed it also turns off my traction control. This message displays about once every three times i drive the car.i have about 28k miles on the vehicle.i have noticed the message since about 22k.the message would go off so i didn't worry about it. Now that i have done some research, i can tell this is a serious problem.i have also noticed that i have a lite clicking noise in the rear when i 'm driving slow.i have no idea if this is related to this "service active handling" issue that everyone is experiencing.and after doing research i'm one of the lucky one that have not felt the repercusions of this defect.i refer to repercussions as wrecking my vehicle, hurting someone else, or hurting myself.based on the seriousness of this problem gm should conduct a recall of the corvettes that are affected by this issue. On behalf of the all corvette owners please look into this issue, before anyone gets seriously injuried or killed.

This is not about a specific car, rather there have been six reports this week in the corvette forum of owners who had their active handling system lock up all four wheels, pulsing violently and making their car uncontrollable. Two of these owners reported this happening at about 40+ mph and had no control of the car as it entered oncoming traffic before coming to a stop. This is a very, very dangerous situation that could very easily take the lives of drivers and pedestrians.

When driving the vehicle, i can hear, as it seems to me, excessive valve train noise.

The exhaust valve broke and destroyed the motor

When driving the vehicle the motor locked up and caused a massive oil spill due to the engine exploding.. Root cause was due to a dropped valve which caused the whole engine to break into pieces. This is a well documented problem with the ls7 motor from gm.

Cylinder head valve guides worn requiring replacement before warranty expiration. If not repaired catastrophic motor failure can occur. If this happens car becomes uncontrollable with oil and coolant flooding out of motor. New heads were ordered from the factory and they were out of specification and needed modification before installed.previous 2008 corvette (unknown vin but can be found at dealership where serviced had this same problem leading to the above mentioned failure and uncontrolled vehicle condition. This happened on an offload venue so there was no accident report.i don not know the exact dates but entered a date as required below.

I started the car when it was cold, it began to squeal from the belts. I gave it a small rev and it squealed intensely, i mean very loudly! i opened the hood and belts were not moving. I could not move the car. The harmonic balancer had lost it's bond. I am just glad i was sitting still. At speed, the steering would have been lost, it could have killed me! i had the car towed to the shop, and it cost me $1000.00. Not good! i read that this happens alot. Bad design for sure. I should be reimbursed. What can i do? chevy won't even talk to me about it. It's a shame because i love my car, but now i am afraid to drive it!

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette. While driving at any speed, the engine shook and the harmonic balancer wobbled. The failure recurred several times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the harmonic balancer needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 6,100.

Engine was found to have valve guide clearances extremely out of allowable specs. Problem was detected by american heritage performance, a company that specializes in these types of engines. If the problem had not been corrected and a failure had occurred, it could have locked up the engine causing the rear wheel to lock up and send the car out of control.

According to corvette forum, this is another widespread problem- the harmonic-balancer becomes warped and requires replacement... If not done timely, other "parts" could be negatively impacted as well...

Valve guides pre-mature wear causing engine failure.

Any quick search of the web will show thatthis car engine, the ls2 or 6.2 l engine has had a defect that gm has denied over the years and fails to stand behind after warranty; crank shaft pulley wobble and worn rubber gaskets on the harmonic balancer of the 2006 model year.tech bulletins have been issued and this topic of pulley wobble and rubber gasket failure and is quite the talk on various corvette forums. Since i am well behind warranty, i had to have this diagnosed through my licensed certifiedauto mechanic. This repair requires extensive labor time to repair.scared to see the bill tomorrow.gm's response is i should of taken it to an authorized chevy dealer.that is hog wash because should i had done that, i would probably still had to pay their exorbitant labor costs and still not be coveredon this serious engine defect.in fact, i believe gm has re-designed the part so what does that tell you. Failure to fix will just harm the engine for the future and replace belt after belt when the true problem is ignored by gm

Chevrolet corvette. Consumer writes in regards to a defective crankshaft pully. *ldthe consumer requested to have the vehicle's repair cost covered in full by the manufacturer.

I was driving in s 35 mph zone and it changed to 45 mph.i was in 2 or 3rd gear and has just started up a slight incline and i was increasing speedwhen the car made a sudden jerk and loud almost a bang.i depressed the clutch and it stayed on the floor.i though that the clutch had came apart and i pulled the pedal up to see what was going on.the engine at that point was running very rough and would not hold speed or accelerate.i pulled into a parking lot and got my wife to pick me up.i then got my pickup and trailer and took the car to classic chevrolet.they found where the valve had dropped into the cylinder and caused damage to the piston and rod.i looked at the engine while tore down and noticed what appeared to me to be a crack in the cylinder wall and pointed it out, the forman said the had checked it and didn't feel that it was a crack.they advised me to get a new head and have the other head worked on as well as a piston, etc.i did that and had the car repaired. When the car jerked it also affected the pressure plate so i had that replaced.after i got the car back i noticed it was smoking white vapor whenever i started it.i took it back to the dealership and the tested it and sure enough it was a crack in the cylinder.i then had the motor replaced and the dealership was very fair and credited the earlier work against the motor.when the motor let loose, the car locked the back wheels and the car behind me had to make a rather quick stop and dodge me so as not to have a wreck.

The cylinder heads have valves that are out of spec with 23,000 miles. The car is out of warranty due to age, and i was forced to purchase aftermarket cylinders heads to fix the worn valve issue to insure i don't drop a valve and have a catastrophic engine failure.

The harmonic damper on 2006 corvette with ls2 engine failed resulting in power steering drive belt coming off pulley causing loss of power steering. The high effort required to steer vehicle almost resulted in crash.this harmonic damper issue is documented in numerous internet forums and is believed to be a widespread issue that should be recalled and corrected by the manufacturer.

Excessive valve train noise, engine noise, knocking.

I was concerned about excessive valve train noise and after reading several accounts of improperly machined heads by gm's supplier linamar, and that numerous vehicles have had valves drop, resulting in engine failure. As a result, after having been rebuffed by chevrolet, i took my car with 36,000 miles on it to a corvette specialty shop to have my valve guide clearance tested. I had several exhaust valve guides outside the maximum service specifications, indicating that a catastrophic engine failure was imminent. The car was repaired with proper re-machining of the heads to make the valve guides concentric, new intake and exhaust valve guides installed, as well as new seals, valves, springs, etc.88% of the corvette forum members who have had their cylinder heads tested for excessive valve guide wear, were out of service specifications. Source: http://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/...-registry.htmlgm needs to issue a recall on this issue, there have been numerous engine failures as a result of a dropped valve into a cylinder which can cause loss of steering, braking capability, and which can result accidents and fires. Gm is very aware of this issue, but refuses to do anything about this huge safety risk to drivers, passengers, and nearby vehicles if the engine fails while the vehicle is underway on public roadways.

Started hearing squealing sounds a few weeks ago. Noticed the crankshaft pulley had a noticeable wobble. Did a google search & found multiple reports on forums, youtube and such of of others with the same problem. Also my friend with the same car but a newer year just had it replaced under warranty. My car is off warranty but a harmonic balancer should not wear out in six years with just 7,500 miles (yes, seven thousand five hundred). My 2000 ford expedition has 151k. Chevrolet wants about $1,000 to replace it.

Ls7 engine makes loud "ticking" sound at idle to ~ 2,000 rpm caused by defective cylinder heads which were improperly machined by gm's subcontractor. Local chevrolet dealers said the noise is "normal"... But when heads opened and valve and valve guides measured, excessive valve and valve guide wear documented.local gm dealer & $4,350 gm protection plan (extended warranty that i had to buy to cover this $5,000 repair) refused to repair so i had to drive it 5 hours to another gm dealer to get it repaired under my gmpp extended warranty.many other 2006 to 2015 corvette owners have experienced this same excessive valve wear including some owners valves breaking and destroying their $16,000 ls7 motors while spewing oil and metal everywhere.this also resulted in a fear of driving this car, a significant "diminishment of value" of this vehicle, and complicated its resale (buyers had heard about these catastrophic ls7 motor failures.

Z06 7.0l engine valve guides out of spec after 12k miles.this is due to a manufacturer defect in machining and or materials. Failure of the guides results in dropping a valve and catastrophic engine damage.as a catastrophic failure often causes the rear wheels to lock and/or the engine to oil down the road and possibly the rear tires which could lead to an accident or injury to others. This is an extreme safety concern.

2006 chevrolet corvette z06oil line related engine fire customer states that this seems to be a known problem**ccthe consumer stated on june 8, 2007 his new car sustained a 3 point engine fire related to an engine oil line defect. The consumer he stated was accompanied by experienced gm certified mechanic who assessed for unrelated repairs and warranty work. The consumer stated the mechanic made an analysis as to what caused the fire. Analysis revealed a defective oil line at the crimped- on rubber hose to metal interface which conducts oil to an external cooler.

I have 2006chevy corvette what a joke this car has been. I have had a new engine i have spent 40,000 on repairs to this car its never ending.i have replaced everything on it twice. I just got it out of the shop yesterday again for the thousands time and now the tractioncontrol light the brake light the tire light on the dash is on. This car is a nightmare. I have paid so much money to never ending drama. Help i beg you. The car has caught on fire due to the clutch fluid leaking everything you can think has has been replaced.talk about a lemon. No lemon law will help.

Car starts bucking, check engine light comes on, white smoke blowing out exhaust, eventually car dies.dealer states, 02 sensor in bank one failed.car has been backto dealer for same failure 5 times in a 4 month period.p0131, p1133, p0300 and p0171.purchased vehicle june 20, 2008 fist issue was july 15, 2008.vehicle was purchased as a gm certified used vehicle with less then 25000 miles on it.gm case # 10447543.car was last in the shop 11/2008 and has been put in my garage for the winter.will not know if problem has been resolved until spring.

Low beam headlights would not turn off in 2012.even with the key off the low beams would not turn off.replaced the fuse box.in may 2013 low beam headlights turned off while driving and would come back on later.drove with high beams to get the vehicle home.fuse box including low beam relay gets very hot.

Low beam headlights turned off while driving.this has happened several times after driving for 20+ minutes.

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette. The contact stated while driving 45 mph at the night the low beam headlights malfunctioned and decreased the contacts vision. The contact had to engage the high-beam headlights in order to reach his destination. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer for a diagnostic test. The dealer stated that the wires were connected to the headlight switch were loose and needed to be replaced. The dealer replaced the headlight wires. The contact stated the repair did not remedy the failure. The contact stated the low beam headlights malfunctioned after it was repaired. The contact took the vehicle back to the dealer who stated the fuse box caused the low beam headlights to malfunction. The dealer replaced the fuse box. The failure mileage was 103,000.

It was sunday night and as i was driving home a car flashed it lights at me.i got home and put the car in the garage.shortly after, i went to leave again and noticed when leaving, sitting in my driveway, that my headlights were not on.i had them set on automatic.i tried to force them to come on and they would not come on.i already was taking my car into the dealership (lone star chevrolet in cypress texas) and added this to my list of problems on monday when i took it in.on monday when i drove the car to the dealership, the lights were working again.when they went to test the car, they once again had the problem with the lights and could not turn them on.when they called with the repair costs, they said they were going to replace the intermittent switch on the lights.they had the car for 3 days.they said other than on that initial inspection they were unable to duplicate the problem again so in good faith they could not justify that replacing the switch would fix the problem so they did nothing to the car to fix the light problem.the evening i got the car back, wednesday 5/15, the lights once again would not work.this morning, thursday 5/16 they worked again.i was searching on the internet to see if others had experienced the problem and to see what the fix was, and i noticed that the nhtsb was researching the problem currently.i wanted to make sure you were aware of my car as well.i also noticed that several people on the corvette forum are having the same problem as well.i will let them know to come to this website to file a complaint as well.this is a major safety issue.thanks you.

My low beams turned off when i was driving.

The car was sitting in a parking lot while we were shopping.when we got back in the car it was dark. I began to move and realized that the automatic headlights were not on.i could not turn them on manually, both low and high beams would not turn on. The only headlights i could use were high beams when using the "flash to pass" by pulling the left hand stalk toward me.i drove home in heavy traffic with my running lights and fog lights on and used my flash to pass high beams when i could not see forward.the next morning the lights operated normally.

Low beam headlights wouldn't come on after driving. I parked the car and when i went to drive that evening the low beams wouldn't go on.

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette. The contact stated that the low bean headlights shut off independently.the vehicle was taken to a dealer, who stated that the fuse block needed to be replaced.the manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that there was no notification schedule available for nhtsa campaign id number: 14v251000 (electrical system, exterior lighting). The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

Low beams suddenly went out while driving at night..almost causing a crash when i was unaware that they were out and another vehicle was marking left hand turn and did not see me...

I was traveling at 55 miles per hour when the low beams suddenly turned off. I had to pull over to emergenc y lane to figure out the problem. I had been driving for about 20 minutes. I had to use high beam to get home. Lights resumed next morning. This is an ongoing issue.

Low beam headlights just turn off by themselves and would not turn back on.

I rarely drive my corvette at night, but on at least two occasions one of my low beam headlight bulbs has failed to operate. The high beam bulbs will operate. After the first incident i replaced the low beam bulbs. After the second failure i checked the low beam bulbs the following morning and they both worked.

The headlight covers are crazing over which is materially reducing the light output.1. The covers cannot be polished.not only does that destroy the outer coating, the crazing is through-and-through.2. The covers are glued on and cannot be replaced by any official means, although some inventive people have managed to succeed (usually after multiple failed attempts) by sticking the entire assembly in their kitchen oven.however, [see next point]3. The covers themselves are not available for sale.4. The headlight assemblies themselves, which cost around $1,000 per side, are specific to the color of the car, and are now discontinued.in other words, there is no legit pathway to fixing this problem.gm made a throwaway headlamp assembly that cost a fortune to replace when it was produced, and now it's not available at all.this is not an old car.these cars were produced until 2013.three and a half years later, you can't get essential parts to make the headlights safe.thousands of c6 headlamp covers are starting to fail now.the nhtsa did a recall for the low-beam wiring malfunction on this car.this is a similar problem in its effect.

Some times the low beam comes on some tomes it doesn't just started to happen a mth ago. Also active handling still gives problem from prior recall goin in again.

Headlights low beam failed causing me to not see standing water and car hydro planed causing it to hit a concrete barrier wall, lights has been going on and off ,i just thought after a dealer visit that they would be fixed,

In mid february of 2014 my right low beam headlamp on my 2006 chevrolet corvette starting turning off within 5-10 minutes of the headlamps turning on and staying off. Daily, each time the headlamps came on the low beam would work then go out.i took my car to the local chevrolet dealership explaining the right low beam goes out minutes after it comes on daily at dawn or duskbelow is what the local chevrolet invoice c46040 dated february 25, 2014 states:concern: customer states the right low beam head light is inop advisecause:rf low beam bulb inopcorrection:replace rf low beam bulb, all lights operating at this timeparts: 000 025735604bulbtech:xxxi paid $441.36 to replace alow beam headlamp that gmc/chevrolet knew was causing issues since may2013 gmc/chevrolet has done nothing to this date about announcing a recall but admits to the government that the intermittent headlight failure was due to an electrical short in the engine bay.at this same time my low jack tracking device started having issues and low jack repaired the issue at no cost but chevrolet charged me for their evaluation of the issue and said it was not the fault of the car.i disagree.i feel very strongly that the electrical short in the engine bay is also the culprit in this situation.i drive commute three times a week round trip 112 miles, the first 30are before dawn and the last 56 are at night.i was driving with a faulty low beam headlight that could stop working at any time and presented a safety risk to me and other cars.i have called gmc multiple times asking for verification of this particular recall and have been told there is no recall. I feel that gmc/chevrolet must provide a recall to prevent more corvette drivers from experiencing situations like mine.

Low beam headlights shut off and will not turn back on. The high beams will come on, the fog lights work. Low beams will not work in auto mode, or manual. Tested dash board sensor, works correctly, changed low beam mini relay and fuses, twice, problem remains unresolved. Can sometimes leave car parked overnight, come out and low beams are working again. Never know when they will work and when they won't. Was driving on interstate the other day and low beam headlights shut off while i was driving, was unable to see. Had to drive with high beams, other drivers on roadway were not happy about it. This is a huge safety concern. Took to dealer, low beams were working at the time and they were unable to diagnose because problem was not present when the vehicle was there.

I was driving my 2006 corvette at night and all of the sudden my headlights turned off, i was surprised and confused but was able to turn my high beams on, i pulled over and tested all the lights, only the low beams did not work, from there i used the fog lights instead of the high beams so not to blind other drivers and got home. I live in a suburban area of my county where there isn't much street lighting, when this happened it was very scary, luckily i didn't crash into anyone or anything.the next night i tested the lights and they came on fine, but after driving about 20-25 minutes they shut off again, used the fog lights so i could see some of the road, but visibility is low. I work at night so now i just turn the fog lights on when i start the car so when the low beams turn off i'll have some type of light. The low beams turn off every time i use the car, about 20-25 minutes into driving the car.the only night this didn't happen was when the weather was cool, i live in south florida but one night in the middle of december, the outside temperature was 59 degrees fahrenheit, i was able to drive the car about 45 minutes without the low beams turning off. I've read some cases that say the low beams turn off because of something in the fuse box overheating, i'm assuming this is why they worked on a cold night.thanks in advance.

I was on the interstate traveling approximately 60mph when my lights went out. I had to pull over, and their was a good deal of traffic. I discovered that my bright lights were working. I had this problem off and on for awhile. I took my car in to have it repaired. I got it back and continued having the problem. I have avoided driving at night which limits the use of your car. Most people would consider this to be dangerous and definitely a safety issue-driving and having your lights go out in traffic.

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette. While driving approximately 35 mph in the dark, the low beam headlights dimmed. The contact had to use the high beam lights in order to continue driving. The following day, the headlights resumed normal operation, but the failure recurred. The dealer informed the contact of nhtsa campaign number: 14v251000 (electrical system, exterior lighting); however, the part was unavailable to perform the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 79,000.

Low beam head lights went out without warning in a corner on a mountain road at 70 mph!the low beam lights will fail at will without warningcontacted chevrolet about the recall #13146 on the head lights and was told theirs a recall but we don't know what to fix?chevrolet trouble ticket [xxx] i have been trying to resolve this for 3 weeks now with no solution or even contact from chevrolet. While driving early morning low beam headlamps suddenly turned off without warning.i still had high beams, but blinded oncoming drivers.after pulling off road, cycling ignition and headlamp switch low beams still inoperable.searching nhtsa website lists potential problem with engine bay fuse box.could have caused a serious accident.

The headlights of the car turn off after a period of time. The high beam has no issue but the low beam turns off. I have to not use the car for a period of time after which the low beam starts working again. This is on and off and i continue to have this problem. Most of the time if the car has been sitting idle they work for a short period of time and then they stop working. The lights turn back on if i stop using the car for a few hours.

Low beams suddenly cut out. Since then, low beams are ok when car is cold (in morning or after sitting for several hours) but then cut out again at random time after car warms up, and stay off until next time car is cold. High beams & fog lights work fine, all other lighting and functions work fine. Suspect failed connection at punch-down board inside fuse box for circuit that supplies power to low-beam relay, requiring fuse box replacement, as has been diagnosed with several other reported identical incidents in c6 model corvettes (first introduced in 2005) that i discovered during online research. Dealer will diagnose during emergency appointment in 2 days. Could cause serious accident if lights suddenly cut out while driving at night on unlit road.

My low beam headlights stopped working driving home at night very dangerious the next morning they worked for a while. Later that day they were not working couldnt drive home after work.

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette. The contact stated that the head lights failed. The failure was recurring. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for inspection but they could not determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 63,500. The vin was unavailable.

Headlights suddenly cut off at night while driving.

I was driving to work at around 8:45 pm and while driving through windy roads my head lights simultaneously turned off which caused me to drive straight into a k-rail, being that there were no street lights so it was pitch black out.

I was driving down the road and the headlights just quit. This time i had high beams but no low beams.the next time i drove the car i had no low or high beams. The last time i drove the car both lights worked as i started the car but stopped working within about 2 minutes.

While driving home from work, the lights on the car went out.after pulling off the road to a service station, i notice all the light were working except for the drive light.after attempting to turn the light on and off, checking the fuses and finding out the high beam were working.i drove home with high beams.the next day i took it to a repair shop and they said the light were working.then that evening, again the low beam when out while driving, i realized that they work for about 30 to 45 minutes before the cut out every time.i took it back to the repair shop and spoke with them.they have said that this is on going issue and the dealership is aware of.for they keep fuse boxes for corvettes in stock, making a comment that they don't keep fuse boxes in stock for his truck.i have check out a few forum and found out that his has been a consistent issues for this model of corvettes.this is a very serious safety issue, as you depend on the dependability of having lights while driving.if someone is unprepared when this happens, there could be a serious accident that can cause serious injury or death.i believe that it is a responsibility of individuals to ensure that the vehicle is safe and it is the responsibility when there a multiple related issues about the same complaint.the manufacture is responsible for ensuring that the product a safe and reliable product for the consumer.again, this need to be address before something seriously happens to someone, if it hasn't already happen..updated 05-09-14.

The low beam headlights do not come on and if you are somewhere after dark, you are forced to drive with high beams only which is distracting and dangerous to other drivers.i am taking the car in to the chevrolet dealership armed with information on this issue with the corvette low beam lights and that there are numerous complaints to the nhtsa and the problem is under review.there is additional information on sites like corvette forum.

Low beam headlights do not go on at night. (in the dark)

Driving on the freeway, my low beam driving headlights will simply turn off and i would have to resort to the high beams to continue driving.at other times, the headlights will work and after arriving at my destination, i would turn the engine off and upon my return the low beam driving headlights will not turn on. This has been a daily occurrence since the first incident. I read in one of the car magazines that the nhtsa was in the process of approving a recall for the incident so i felt it was best to register my complaint in order to maintain the integrity of the data being collected by the agency.

I was leaving my friends home this evening and my headlights wouldn't come on. My high beams and fog light work but i have no headlights. I was an hour from home and had to drive the entire way with my high beams on.

While driving on dark road my low beam lights shut off. This was very dangerous and it could have easily cost me my life. This should be a recall. How many people will die before chevrolet decides to do a recall?!!!

Was driving on the highway when my driving lights stopped working without warning, could have lead to an accident. I then tried my high beams and those worked so i continued driving with my high beams only to get my self home.

Started car one night back in july and noticed low beam headlights did not work, drove with high beams on. Over several weeks noticed they only worked intermittently.after several visits to dealer, about 12 hours of diagnosing, it was determined it was the fuse box and that it was likely over heating. I paid a total of $886.83 (parts & labor) for repair.

While driving at night my low beams suddenly go out leaving the road in darkness.this has happened on several occasions.i am told the under hood fuse box is defective.this seems to be a problem on many 2006 corvettes.gm should issue a recall.

Low beam headlights intermittently fail to illuminate. Attempting to toggle between the available positions on the headlight stalk will not cause the lights to turn on. Dash indicates that lights are on, but they are not. This is unsafe at any speed, but terrifying on the freeway at 70 mph.

Headlamps intermittent dues to what is reportedly a faulty circuitboard within the fuse-box... So far only the headlamps are affected (as well as the driver's door opening system)... Repair-shop and online forums indicate it a common-problem with many c6 corvettes and expensive: $600+.

I have the same problem you are investigating when the car warms up i have no low beam headlamps.

Driving down the highway and my lowbeam lights went off my highbeams and fog lights continued to work. The next day i cut my lights on they worked for a short time but went out again. This may have been over a period of time but i just noticed recently i have rode down the highway and everything looked dark and i turned my fog lights on to compensate for the darkness.

I have a 2006 chevrolet corvette, while driving along at night all of a sudden the headlights went off.i was lucky enough to be able to pull over without hitting anyone or being hit. I found the problem to be the low beam headlights only. The high beam still work and i was able to get it home .i found out on pc that i was not alone with this problem and like others they will work again when car is cooled down. They will go off again when engine is warm or hot at any given moment.

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v251000 (electrical system, exterior lighting) however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The vin was not available. The contact had not experienced a failure.

One evening i noticed my low beam head headlamps were not working. Fortunately, the high beams and fog lights did work. The next morning the lights did work until the car warmed up. That evening, again i had no lo beam headlamps. I searched the internet and found other corvette owners were having this same problem. This pattern continued for about a week until i was able to stop by the dealership. The car was diagnosed and the internal fuse block had to be replaced. My service technician said this is the second corvette he has recently seen with this problem. My incident did not result in an accident. However, losing headlamps is dangerous and if other owners are having the same issue, i hope chevrolet will issue a recall.

Low beam operation is intermittent, has been occurring for some time over the past years, never resolved cause as low beams always worked when vehicle was at dealership, did not relate to car being hot or cold.

My headlights i thought was done under dealership then they stop working 2 mths later .

After driving home approximately 30 miles from work with the low beam headlights working, they quit working after parking for a few minutes then returning to the vehicle to drive. All other lamps work including high beams fog lights and parking lamps. The low beams will not turn on with the control switch turned on or on the auto on setting.

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette. The contact stated that the headlights failed. The contact received a recall notification for nhtsa campaign number: 14v251000 (electrical system, exterior lighting). The dealer informed the contact that the remedy was not available.

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette. While driving 70 mph, the headlights failed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 66,000.

Overwhelming fuel odor after shutting car off and housing it in the garage or outside. Especially noticeable in summer when ethanol is added to fuel - heavy smell of nail polish remover inside and outside the car. Fuel vapor leak from gas tank requires $2,678.87 repair. Fuel vapor buildup inside the vehicle and/or garage and house are a fire hazard as well as a health hazard. Other owners have complained of similar problem on the corvette forum. Chevrolet needs to recall and replace this component on all c6 corvettes.

Gas vapors rise from the rear wheels following a fill up.does not happen if you only fill it half way.fumes are really bad when vehicle is in the garage.nothing dripped on the ground.

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette. The contact stated that with the fuel tank at half full, there was an abnormal exhaust fumes odor in the vehicle. Stokes automotive located at 86 peach tower rd, clanton, al 35045 (205) 755-3700, was contacted and informed of the issue. The contact was informed that the vehicle warranty period was exceeded. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was concerned that the leak was due to the failure of a plastic fitting on the primary fuel tank. The manufacturer was not contacted or informed of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 44,750.

Smell gas fumes while driving over 1/2 tank

There is a strong smell of gasoline coming from the car.it is difficult to pinpoint the source, but i believe there is a leak from the gas tank area.

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette. The contact noticed that the vehicle was leaking fuel from the fuel pump. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 36,000.

I smell gas coming from my gas tank, especially after a fillup. The cap has been replaced. No spillage occurs when filling up but yet the smell persists until i get below a half a tank. Others in the corvette world who own a c6 corvette have complained of the same thing and have discovered it is due to a faulty seal in between the tank and filler, perhaps the whole assembly. Very dangerous fire hazard.

Strong gas fuel odor coupe interior and outside left rear wheel well

With fuel at 3/4 or full, after going over pot holes or speed bumps etc. I get a raw gas smell that engufs the whole inside of the car,and lasts 5 to ten mins. This has been going on for about the last 6 months. Just came off 6500 mile road trip. Happened about eevery other day.

Smell of gas coming from the car, noticed "wet" surfaces under the car at the rear. Can smell gas when getting in the car, have noticed this for a few months but i don't drive the vehicle much.

Fuel started to leak from passenger side gas tank and fuel smell in cabin

Strong gas smell when parked in garage especially after running.lasts for days.

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette. The contact stated that the vehicle emitted a strong fuel odor and while driven the fuel odor penetrated the vehicle interior. In addition, while the vehicle was parked the fuel odor was strong. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic whom performed a diagnostic testing, which located a fuel leak at the driver side fuel tank. The contact stated that the mechanic advised that parts located at the top of the fuel tank needed to be replaced. However, the contact did not know the name of the parts that were replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 55,500.

Strong gas fumes from the driver's side rear quarter panel. So strong that i need to keep my garage door partially open.

I smell gas after filling up. Goes away after the tank is below half full. Spoke with other c6 corvette owners with the same problem and it has to do with a faulty gas tank filler cause by plastic parts of the neck filler cracking.

I am smelling a strong gasoline odor from the car as it is parked in the garage. It just started at random a few days ago.no visible signs of gas are on the pavement, but the smell is very strong.i am worried about a fire hazard since the exhaust is close by.there are a lot of complaints on the internet of this being a huge problem, but to my knowledge gm is not doing anything about if, my corvette is 9'yrs old but only has 17,000 mile (a garage queen). This problem occurred out of the blue, my gas gauge reads about 5/8 of a tank so it did not happen after a fill up.,,please help.

Smell of gas consistently fills the cabin. I fear it is a crack in the gas tank like multiple others have reported.

I bought this car the other day and on the way home i stopped at the gas station and filled my car up to 3/4 of a tank. When i got home there was a very strong smell of gas coming into the car. I parked in the garage and when i woke up the next morning the smell was unbearable. I have it at the chevy dealership right now having it looked at. I just saw a forum with someone having the same problem and sent me to this link. Is this a recall? also the smell is strong at all times driving/parked/idoling

Smell of gas fumes in gararage after sitting overnight. No visible gas leaks

Car smells of fuel while sitting with the engine off. From doing research it is a common problem where there is a crack in the top of the fuel pump.

Strong fuel smell when gas tank is more than half full

There is an overpowering smell of gasoline coming from the left rear of the car. Gasoline smell from the trunk and cabin.

Fuel gas fumes from left rear wheel opening and inside when vehicle is stationary. Had fuel sending unit in gas tank replaced and new gas cap but did not solve the problem. Dangerous gas fumes !! fumes stronger when weather is hot.

Gas smell in car and garage after filling car up. Didn't notice smell until car filled with gas. Also noticed small gas spot near passenger side back tire

Has crack on top of fuel pump spraying gas , smells in cab

Fuel leaking from driver side fuel tank running down the side and dripping off safety shield

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette. The contact stated that after refueling the vehicle, there was an odor of fuel present inside and outside of the vehicle. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer autonation chevrolet located at (2118 s padre island dr corpus christie, tx) was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 23,600.

Fuel system leak from tank and or fuelpump. Car cranks, wont start, strong odor of fuel coming from tank. Mostly happens after filling tank and at times while car is in motion.

Constant gasoline smell in the garage when parked especially when the tank is nearly full. Just recently purchased the car and never had a problem like this before. Must leave the garage door open or leave the car outside.

Gas tank is leaking a lot

I'm noticing a gas smell inside my car and near the rear wheel well. I notice this smell when the car is stationary.

Strong fuel smell

Fuel leak bad smell when left i garage2006 corvett

I recently (jan 6, 2018), noticed a very distinct gasoline smell in my garage and around my 2006 corvette.there is no spotting beneath the car.the odor has its strongest concentration in the area near the filler door (driver's side rear wheel well area).i have owned the car for exactly three years and this is the first time this smell has been present.it is very pervasive and definitely gasoline.the fumes are a major safety hazard and this condition is very disconcerting.there are numerous postings on corvette forums and on you tube, that highlight this ongoing problem with early c6 corvettes (2005-2008).i have called chevrolet dealer service departments and they acknowledge that this has been a problem, but that no recall has been issued.the problem is that gasoline is spraying out of the seals and certain plastic hose connections related to the fuel tank, and, or, around the fuel pump and possibly the crossover tube.gasoline "puddles" on top of the gas tank or is caught by the tank shield beneath the tank...thus no spotting under the car.the fumes and the liquid are a major fire danger...both in a stationary garage setting or when the car is in motion, where gasoline would have the potential to ignite on a hot surface such as the exhaust.

After filling the gas tank and driving home there is a very strong smell of gasoline in my garage. I think the fuel is leaking out when the fuel tank is full.

On august 13, 2015, my 2006 corvette would not shift out of reverse. The car was stuck in that reverse gear and the shift lever was not enabling the selection of another gear. The shifter mechanism on this automatic equipped vehicle was operational, but the linkage to the transmission was no longer engaged. The car was being pulled into the garage when this happened, so fortunately i was not in a busy intersection, in a parking lot, or in some other location where i, or someone else, might have been in harm's way due to a vehicle that i could no longer control. Since the car could not be put in neutral or park, i had to turn off the vehicle with it in reverse and use the parking brake to keep the car from moving. Since the shifter mechanism could still move, the switch activating the "ok to start" would have allowed the car to start when put in the park or neutral positions - while the transmission was still stuck in reverse; a real safety issue. The cause of the problem was a 50 cent bushing that attaches to the shift lever. This bushing allows the ball end connector of the shifter to engage a shifter cable that actuates the linkage to the transmission. So when that bushing breaks, you can no longer shift the car. This has happened to many, many people owning the generations of c5 (1997-2004) and c6 (2005-2013) corvettes. You can read a sample thread with pictures here:http://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c6-corvette-general-discussion/3482107-c6-automatic-shifter-broken-need-help-replacing-transmission-shifter-module.htmlor here (and there are many more!)http://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c5-general/2684621-broken-shifter-linkage-fix-with-pics.htmlthe part replaced (the bushing) failed because of plastic deterioration, the pictures in the above links show the broken part and the part obtained to repair the problem. This problem needs serious attention!

My vehicle with 85,000 miles began emmiting a continuous raw gas smell when i refill the fuel tank.smell is coming from the left side, rear, wheel well.smell is intense to the point i cannot store inside the garage as i fear a fire hazard and a toxic smell is coming into my house interior.smell seems to end once fuel level goes below 1/2 full.

Bought car on a friday 12/4/2015 fuel leak under drivers side under fuel fill door. Strong fumes as well. Took back to dealer monday. Was told it will be this coming week before a technician can drop the rear suspension to get to the fuel tank. This is why i have only bought asian cars in the past. Lexus etc.

After driving my car for a sufficient length of time to get the engine hot (normal driving) and then park it in the garage, a very strong smell of fuel vapor is emitted from the rear area of the car which fills the garage and permeates the house.the odor also invades the car's interior cabin. This dangerous condition was reported to the watson chevrolet dealership in tucson, august, 2015, mileage 67289. After lengthy inspection and communication with gm, certain components were replaced - an expensive repair.the car operated satisfactorily and i observed no more fuel vapors until march 4, 2016, mileage 71448.following a trip of 40 miles, normal city driving, i parked the car in the garage and the same very strong fuel vapors filled the garage.once again, the house was permeated with the odor, which we found necessary to purge, and to remove the car from the garage until the vapor dissipated.i consider this to be a dangerous safety hazard.i've also noted from various corvette forums that many other c6 corvettes have experienced this condition and it maybe a common problem.i believe cars like mine should be recalled for an appropriate fix before an explosion or other unfortunate event occurs.it won't be an accident!

3 days ago i filled up my c6 at the gas station and ever since then it has been i very strong smell of gas and it has yet to go away even when the car has not been driven it still smells like gas

Every time i put fuel in the car there is a strong gas smell by the car that lingers for a long time.

I filled up my gas tank and when getting back into the car i noticed a strong gas odor, so strong that i had to roll the windows down in the rain. The smell was especially bad when i came to a stop. I just looked online to see if others are having this problem and it seems this is a major issue with the c6 corvette. This is extremely unsettling, considering many of us park our cars in garages with pilot lights and other sources of spark/flame. I'll be contacting gm.

Smell fuel after filllup

Vehicle would not shift in park or reverse and drive. Malfunction car was in traffic

1st the plastic bushing that holds the shift cable to the transmission shift linkage broke and left the car inoperable ( unable to shift ) parked in my carport about 4 moths ago, 2nd the plastic bushing that holds the shift cable to the center console shifter broke and left my car in reverse and took off and rolled back intocarport with both doors open , needless to say what happened i've only seen in the movies until now , both doors are totaled, and chevrolet knows this to be a problem but does not fix cheap plastic bushings , only offers whole cable with same cheap plastic bushings ...

Has crack on top of fuel pump spraying gas , smells in cab

The support bearings in the torque tube for the drive shaft failed. This causes a vibration noise of variable intensity.a simple investigation of the problem revealed that this is a problem with the c6 models.

First incident 15000 miles, second incident 38000 miles.automatic transmission does not go into park.locked in neutral or drive only.transmission cable or reverse lock out solenoid goes bad.will not start in neutral.car cannot be placed into park and must be left in a neutral mode until car is transported to service center for repairs.

After initial start, and while holding brake pedal down, the automatic shift lever stays locked in "park," and cannot be shifted to other gears.the solenoid seems not to be engaging.this is an annoying occurrence, which happens too often.i can see safety issues arising from this problem.problem began @ 2,500 miles.vehicle now has only 3,100 miles, and still occurring.vehicle is always stationary, and mostly occurs during initial start, when operation of vehicle begins.also occurs after a few hours of vehicle operation, when parked, ignition turned off, then restarted minutes or hours later.vehicle is always garaged, and this problem is not weather related.

Have excessive noise coming from valve train.called chevrolet customer service to inquire about cause andinformation about repair.was told no known problems and vehicle was no longer under warrantyi took car to katech in michigan to have the motor checked and repaired if needed.the clearance on the valve guides were way beyond gm spec and had deformed my valves weakening them to the point of certain failure.i payed thousands of dollars to repair.i do not feel that a car with so liitle miles should need such an expensive repair.chevrolet has refused to acknowledge this problem that if left unchecked would lead to engine failure resulting in an unsafe condition for driver passenger and other motorists. .

Car will refuse to shift out of park during normal start.car will refuse to shift out of park when in acc mode.problem is non deterministic and may be related to voltages and/or resistances and/or faulty parts in system.car is rendered non-operable and requires towing or repeated attempts to release gear train over a variable period of time. This seems to be a well known manufacturing defect not addressed by the manufacturer

Waiting in traffic due to accidentahead. Shift auto trans. Into park.the trans. Would not shift out of park to resume normal operation. Problem described in owner operations manual. Finally able to shift to drive. Now will not shift out of drive creating potential for car to roll without break applied. Research shows this is happening in years 2005 to 2016.

When i start my corvette and attempt to shift my automatic transmission from park to drive, the shifter will not move out of the park position.

Automatic transmission shifter stuck in park. In the 2006 model both of these issues will eventually lead to being "stuck in park" and you cannot control when or where. It is a known issue with gm and they have failed to issue a recall because of the cars age. It is starting to effect newer models and likely the same or similar part. The safety locking solenoid goes bad, and the part is not replaceable on its own. You have to buy an entire shifter assembly. It will cost upwards of 700.00 or more. If you force it into gear you can also break the shifter cable at a higher cost.

Automatic shifter will not return to park or reverse position from neutral. Essentially vehicle is stuck in neutral.the failure is in the shifter mechanism and notthe linkage or transmission.there is no way to safely park the vehicle in this condition or restart the car once it has been turned off.once in this bad state, the vehicle remains in accessory mode therefore killing the battery.

Automatic transmission shift lock solenoid fails, preventing trans. To lock into park and or can't place transmission in park. Gm corrected this condition starting with vin number 75405780, vin numbers before that still continue to have this safety condition

When driving the vehicle, i can hear, as it seems to me, excessive valve train noise.

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette. While approaching a stop, the gear shifter was not able to shift out of the drive position. The contact mentioned that the brakes were applied to stop the vehicle's movement before attempting to shift the gear shifter. The contact mentioned that the gear shifter became loose after changing position to park. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing where it was confirmed that the gear shift cable was fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 12,211.

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to shift into the park or reverse position without warning. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact had to disconnect the battery in order to shut off the vehicle. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 51,000.

After starting car, it had trouble shifting in gear. After pulling on gear selector, it went in drive, but wouldn't goin reverse or park. The car wouldn't come out of accessory power mode, and i wasn't able to park the car on a hill as it had to stay in neutral or drive. There is no way to secure the car when this happens. The repair shop tells me this is a common issue on these cars.

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette. While attempting to drive out of the driveway, the clutch pedal traveled to the floorboard. The vehicle was taken to williams chevrolet (2 automotive blvd, elkton, md 21921) where it was diagnosed that the clutch plate, pressure plate, and slave cylinder failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that they would not assist. The failure recurred while driving 55 mph. The vehicle was towed to a storage facility. The contact did not contact or take the vehicle to a dealer or mechanic. The manufacturer was made aware of thefailure and stated that the contact should take the vehicle to a dealer and have it diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 21,229 for the first failure and 24,000 for the second failure.

Car would not shift out of park.

Car sticks in park. Will not go in gear.

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette. After the vehicle was started, it failed to shift from the park position without warning. The shifter cable was replaced, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 74,000.

My automatic shifter jammed in the d location and would only go to neutral and would not go into reverse or park, and the doors would not open with the button, this shifter has jammed in park in the past. This car only has 26k miles on it. And is not driven in bad weather. Not a good feeling to be traped in your car.

The shift level on my automatic transmission locks in nuetral.been reading that this is a safety concern.it starts when the car is in park and then won't let the shifter move

Shifter stiff and is very hard to shift into gear on automatic transmission

Vehicle will not shift to park after starting engine and engaging the brake.tried restarting and shifting the car into reverse several times and it finally went into reverse after approximately 10 minutes of trying.the vehicle was on a flat surface.after reading news and forum articles, this seems to be a commonly known problem, with the only fix being to replace the shifter assembly.gm does not however want to address this.this should be a recall item.

The shifter is connected to the transmission with a 4 foot cable, this cable is housed in the drive shaft tunnel, the cable has a plastic bushing on both ends, the heat in the tunnel bakes the plastic bushing that connects the shifter to the transmission cable, my bushing broke into pieces and the car could not shift into or out of gear. Many corvettes in the c5,c6 & c7 modes have this same issue and are failing everyday. My car was in the garage in park, i had driven it earlier in the day, i stared the car and the shifter would move, but the plastic bushing had broken into pieces due to the heat failure. I know of the happening to 4 other corvettes and the shop i took my car to was receiving other calls on the same issue.

I noticed that there's a recall on a number of gm cars due to a shift cable problem. I've known a number of fellow corvette owners, with the year model 2005 thru 2009, that have had the cable break. I just wanted to make the nhtsa aware of the problem in case you've seen more complaints regarding it and a recall might be warranted.

Took the car in for an oil change and when i picked it up, they added 2 quarts of transmission fluid to the car. Didn't think much of it and left. 5000 miles later, while entering the freeway, the engine light came on and the car stalled. Went from 45 mph down to 5-10 mph, the steering wheel locked and i was about 3 seconds away from being rear ended by an 18 wheeler. The car was towed to the dealer and i advised them to call me with the diagnosis. They called and said my transmission solenoid was defective and needed to be change. I thought about the 2 quarts of fluid and thought to myself, why was it low and did this cause the breakdown? i called and told them not to touch the car until i was present. Went to dealer, the 32 year experienced transmission specialist checked the level of fluid and "oh my god, it is very low again". I had their service manager come and told him i wanted a gm rep to inspect my car before any repairs where done to it and that he did not have my consent to repair the vehicle. 8 days later the service manager calls and says "i fixed your car, the fluid was never low and come pick up your car or i will charge you storage and rental if you don't". I called gm and them talk to this guy and beg him to leave the car at the dealership until a rep was available, and he said " no way, i want this car out of here. So i go to pick up the car and noticed the repair invoice did not indicate the fluid was low and i asked him to fix it and he refused and said the 32 year gm transmission specialist made a mistake and needed to check the manual on how to check the fluid level.he then offered me and extended warranty and agreed to say on the invoice that the fluid level was low. To date no one can tell me why the fluid was low the first time or the second time. The dealers only explanation is that the car came from the manufacturer missing 2 quarts of transmission fluid. Contacted gm and bbb and just went to arbitration and waiting for verdict.

Dt*:the contact stated the passenger side rear axel failed multiple times.the first failure occurred on november 26, 2005 at 357 miles.while driving over a pothole the rear axel fractured.the second occurrence was on december 13, 2005 at 1,305 miles.the third was on january 11, 2006 at 2,316 miles.after each failure the rear axel was replaced by a dealership and the part number of the replacement axel was different.the contact felt the change of part numbers could have reflected a different axel manufacturer.while driving at 35mph on march 7, 2006 the rear axel broke again.the vehicle is awaiting repairs at an independent repair shop.

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette.while driving 15-20 mph, the contact was unable to shift into second gear.the failure forced him to shift into fourth gear.the dealer stated that the vehicle was designed in that manner for caf reasons.the manufacturer stated that they would be unable to make any repairs.they advised the contact that he could install an aftermarket part to remedy the failure, but the contact refused.the failure mileage was 50 and current mileage was 1,300. Updated 09/05/07

-the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette, and stated that the seat belts were retracting without applying the brakes.on one occasion, the seat belts retracted until the shoulder part of the belt was on the contact's neck and he felt as if he wasbeing choked.the dealer replaced the seat belts, and added a seat belt extender, but the driver continued to experience the failure. The current mileage was 13,000 and the failure mileage was 1,500.updated 05/21/07.

The driver's side metal seat frame was shattered into 3 places.the seat would not recline properly, and as i was told by the dealer when i took it in to be fixed:the seat was floating loosely in the car when it arrived at his shop.the corvette had only 29,900 miles on it, was not a daily driver, and had only seen recreational weekend use.the corvette was never in an accident, always garaged, and well taken care of.as an aerospace engineer, i strongly believe there was a manufacturing defect in the seat frame that led to this failure.the seat had only seen 29,900 miles or less of regular, every day use before the failure occurred.that leads me to believe there were hairline fractures in the metal seat frame before it was installed in my corvette at the assembly plant.failures in both the supplier's manufacturing process and chevrolet's quality inspection process occurred in this instance.had i been in an accident with a seat that was not secured to the corvette, the injuries i would have sustained would have been significant.i filed a complaint with chevrolet about this, and believe the complaint did not receive the attention that it should have received.there was no acknowledgement of an investigation into the failed part, and i was only partially reimbursed for the cost of repair.as a result, i am filing a separate complaint with the government so they can provide the proper oversight in this matter.repairs were made to the vehicle, and i was charged because the repairs were deemed by chevrolet to be out of both the 3 year/36,000 mile warranty due to time (the corvette was 4 years old), and theand the extended (gmpp) 5 year/60,0000 mile bumper to bumper no deductible warranty that i had purchased for $1700 due to the fact that, as chevrolet said, being "not covered under the extended bumper to bumper warranty" i had purchased for extra.

Service active handling.

Hello my name is [xxx] i am 64 years old. On sunday 9/18/2016 while driving my 2006 corvette with my wife in the passenger seat we nearly had an accident. I was going around 70 when the car all of a sudden brake and pulledto the left. We were both shook up by this. We right away pressed our on-star button. We had them run a diagnostic test.on-starwas unable to get a reading on the car. We told on-star that the dash boarddisplayed the following message "service active handling system".as soon as we got home my wife looked up this issues and noticed there was a recall for this problem in 2010 #[xxx]. My car is a 2006 corvette vin# [xxx]. I called the dealership that monday 9/19.the dealership is ancira winton 6111 bandera rd sat 78238. I was informed that the previous owner had brought the car into the dealership to have this recall fixed. So basically i was out of lucky because it had been fixed. Well i say no it has not been fixed i have a picture of what appeared on my dash board which i have attached. My wife then called the nhtsa to file a compliant as to the fact the dealership will not repair this .i have only 22,700 mile on this car. I have not driven it since this incident which can be confirmed by on-star. My wife was given a compliant case # 10908378. She was informed to sign onto www.safetycar.gov. As of today we can not locate this complaint.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I have a potential ah/tc (active handling) system problem. Today the ā€œservice active handling systemā€¯ light came on and upon search of the fix within my corvette community i discovered that it is potentially a deadly issue where brakes may lock up on the freeway! please send me information on a fix with gm or where this is at in the process in regards to a recall. Thank you for your attention to this apparently deadly issue.

On numerous occasions the past two years the active handling system in the vehicle will take control for no reason and brake on one side causing the car to swerve out of its lane and other times applies the brakes on its own.very dangerous.

"service active handling system" and "service vehicle soon" light both came on today. Researched on-line and determined that this is a very dangerous issue, potentially fatal.

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette. While driving 30 mph, the active handling system engaged and the front end of the vehicle began to shake. While the accelerator pedal was depressed, the brakes engaged independently. The vehicle was taken to michaels toyota of fresno, california (50 west bullards ave, (559) 431-7576 93704), but the source of the failure could not be determined. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact indicated that nhtsa campaign number: 10v172000 (steering) was a possible explanation for the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette. While driving 40 mph, the brake pedal was depressed but the vehicle veered to the left and the right before coming to a halt. In addition, while in park, the gear shifter failed to shift out of park and "service active handling system" displayed across the message board. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 32,461.

Brakes came on car swerved.

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the front brakes seized as the service active handling indicator illuminated. The vehicle spun out of control as the contact turned the steering wheel to the right. The vehicle resumed and functioned normally. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was diagnosed that the brake control module needed to be replaced.the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 93,400 and the current mileage was 93,500.

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette. While driving at approximately 60 mph, the passenger side brake caliper engaged and the contact lost control of the vehicle. The contact mentioned that unknown warning indicators illuminated immediately after the failure occurred. The failure recurred several times. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

Recently when i made a turn in front of on coming trafficthe corvette steering did not return to center i almost hit he vehicle at the stop sign !!!!!!i also notice the abslight on

My brakes locked up and i could have been killed.

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette. While driving at various speeds down a hill the brakes and service active handling system spontaneously engaged. In addition, while in reverse the brakes activated independently without warning. The tpms warning light was illuminated. The local dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The failure mileage was 78,000. *dt

For the past year my 2006 corvette has periodically displayed a warning on the driver information screen which reads "service vehicle soon"followed nearly immediately by "service active handling system."when the problem first occurred the vehicle was under warranty with approximately 12,000 miles.the vehicle now has roughly 20,000 miles and is out of warranty.the vehicle has been into our local chevrolet dealer in livermore, ca five times for this issue (jan 09, mar 09, mar 09, dec 09, jan 10)the dealer tried a number of repairs but the warning continued.the dealer and gm are now stating that the problem is related to defective bpmv and ebcm units which control the antilock braking system and the stabilitrack system.they are refusing to correct the problem.my concern is that this is apparently a chronic problem for these vehicles which could potentially result in a serious injury or death if the brakes were to lock up at the wrong time.

I was pulling out of a driveway onto a main road making a left turn. Suddenly my front brakes grabbed with full force and stopped the car. The active handling light came on. I stepped on the gas hard and over powered the brakes to move the car to the side of the road. I turned off the car waited a minute and restarted the vehicle. The active handling light went off and i was able to drive normally again. It was raining and about 60 degrees at the time. I am the second owner of the car and this is the only time it has happened in the year i have owned it. I saw a bulletin about this problem for many 2006 chevrolet corvettes and decided to send this letter about it. I never brought the car in for service because i thought it was a temporary malfunction.

Active handling warning light came on and the car suddenly pulled to the right with no warning and put the right front brake on.

Ea09-002 my car suddenly pulls to the right or left and brakes really hard sometimes during normal driving, and a service active handling light comes on. Very dangerous!! after restarting everything seems fine until out of the blue it happens again.

6 months ago my service active handling system light came on went to dealer they said it was no big deal and shut the light off, a month later back on ,same thingfrom thedealer now sunday 7/19/2009 with my son in the car at 55mph light came on car darted right lucky i saved it shut the car off when we started back home it was off but soon came back on since then this has happened four times. Calling the dealer today 2006 corvette coupe manual trans w/27k on it.

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette. While driving at 25 mph, the service active handling system warning light illuminated. The failure occurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the signal interruption within the steering column needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 10v172000 (steering). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 61,000.

[xxx] 2006 corvettes have recall for service active handling apply brakes or one side of brake ... The car i own and drive has this problem happened more than once ..why would my car not be on a recall too.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I have a 2006 corvette, the service active handling message came on while driving . I carried it to my dealer and they installed a clip in the steering column and charged $130.

Steering wheel locked while driving

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette. While driving approximately 70 mph, the service active handling system warning message displayed. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 10v172000 (steering). The failure mileage was 110,000.

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette. The service active handling warning light illuminated on the dashboard. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who replaced the steering wheel position sensor. The failure recurred within 10,000 miles. The dealer installed an unknown clip in the steering wheel position sensor to maintain its stability. The contact also inquired about nhtsa campaign id number: 10v172000 (steering column) and the dealer advised the recall repair had previously been performed on the vehicle. The vehicle was not serviced. The dealer was advised that the wire connector and not the sensor was defective. The contact believed the dealer to be misleading and contacted the manufacturer who would not provide any assistance. The failure mileage was 33,000 and the current mileage was 66,000.

2006 corvette coupe- front left tire locked up @ 35 mph. The recall clip had already been installed before i purchased the car. The tech at the local gm dealer called gm.and was told to replace the steering wheel position sensor.

The power steering high pressure line leaks in multiple places through a short canvas reinforced rubber segment on my 2006 corvette, not through any crimped fittings, o-rings, etc. The higher the rpm, the faster it leaks. It sprays on the engine and exhaust. The source of the leak was difficult to find shortly after purchase (used), being the hose itself is hard to see, the leak was smaller then, and it had a corrugated plastic tubing wrapped around it for abrasion protection, diverting the leaks. Now it's leaking badly. The hose is bent in a curve, and the leaks are all along the outer perimeter (stretched) side of the hose. I discovered the replacement steel line has been redesigned to a longer unit with two straight rubber sections that must be rerouted, which told me the original had a design flaw that led to failures. I checked to see if there was a recall for this, and there is, but oddly my vin seems to 'not be included'. Recall #05v455000 is dated 10/5/2005, and the date my car was built is 09/05 according to the door decal. The recall states: 'consequence: if this were to occur, power steering assist would be lost and increased steering effort would be required. On vehicles equipped with hydro-boost power brakes, it could also result in loss of power brake assist and increased braking effort would be required. If the power steering fluid spray were to spray onto hot engine parts, an engine compartment fire could occur.'the dealership insists my vin is not effected, but yet i clearly have this problem now on a hose that is nothing like the newly-designed ones. I think gm must include my vin and all additional ones with this old style hose installed, i think it 'slipped through the cracks'. It's spraying fluid on hot exhaust beneath, and it loses lots of fluid quickly which can lead to steering/brake failure. I can't drive the car in the state it's in.

Re: current investigation number ea09-002.multiple incidents of "service active handling" message about once a month.took to dealer in 2012, replaced steering angle sensor - chevy supposedly paid part, charged me $400.problem is starting to occur again.this vehicle was made in march 2006 and was outside the recall vin range.luckily no handling issues.

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the brakes engaged independently as the front passenger's side tire seized. A recall on 2005/2006 corvettes for the 'service active handling system" exists.my car is not listed on that recall.my car has had this problem for over a year and i have noticed a difference.the light for "service" of the active handling systemis now on all of the time.

My roof delamintated on my 2006 chevrolet corvette while driving. I had taken it to the dealership and they will not honor the recall.

First the roof blew off.the communication message center gives mis information.the car has always made a grinding sound under hood at start up.problemsmactivating eelectrical stability system.also after roof repair roof rattles and always sound loose.

My issue is an apparent design flaw with the power convertible top on my 2006 corvette.during the normal operation of the top, the corner of the plastic side rails on each side of the each (driver's & passenger's side) contacts the inner liner of the convertible.this has caused a hole in my liner which, my local dealership refused to repair under the original manufacturers warranty.they stated that the reason they won't fix it is because gm hasn't issued a tsb (technical service bulletin) for this issue.i know of several other owners who are experiencing the same issue.thank you in advance for assisting me.

While driving my 2006 corvette with 15,000 miles it suddenly veered to the rightpulling the car off the road. The "check stability control system" came on the in dash computer.

I own a 2006 corvette c6 as described in chevrolet's recall notice on "defective removable tops.i am experiencing the described problems with the removable top and my vin number is in the range chevrolet has defined.i have called chevrolet and they stated i would have to pay the dealer to determine if i had the specified recall defect.if they determined it was not within the recall criteria i would be billed by the dealer for diagnostics.i do not believe that the consumer should have to pay to determine if an identified problem, in the vin number range specified is dangerous or not.it is not dangerous to me but could definitely affect any vehicles behind me if the roof fails.this is a recognized problem but chevy seems to say "let it fail, then we will handle it".my top creaks, started about 9 months ago and has recently developed a wind noise in the right passenger side.these are symptoms/precursors to failure as stated in the recall.

2006 corvette coupe top defect report.the bonding of the shell skin to the frame of my corvettes portable painted top came loose and nearly caused an accident on the highway.i was able to grab the shell and bring the car to a controlled stop.the dealer told me my car was not on the recall list, but they will fix the problem.i also have a clear tented top that may have the same defect, but they have not responded to my request to determine if the defect exists in the clear tented top.i do not want to cause an accident or a death on the highway, soi will drive the car only on low speed roads until the chevy dealer gets me an answer on the condition of this clear top.gm should go on report since gm failed to realize the top assembly bonding defect extends into their later built cars.date of purchase 2/2006.

Concerning nhtsa recall #s 09v49100 or 06v181000 roof panel failure on 2006 corvette coup.i inquired with local chevy dealers on this recall because my roof was producing symptoms as indicated in the above recalls, specifically wind noise in the cabin cockpit.was told by local chevy dealer that my car was not eligible for recall as it was sold with a transparent top and not the solid roof top which is on it now.(i bought the car used)however local chevy dealers say that they don't know of any after market roofs, but the only way to tell is to take off the headliner and then they can see if it was manufactured by gm/chevy.i indicated to chevy customer service that i would be willing to pay to remove and replace the headliner, however chevy says they won't honor the recall even if it is a gm roof.i then wrote a letter to the chairman of gm and his assistant says basically the same thing and won't put it in writing, so they seem to be reluctant to fix the roof if it is a gm product.my question to nhtsa is "if the roof is a gm product, why wouldn't it be covered under the recall?"

This complaint is about a 2006 chevrolet corvette coupe with a painted roof. My roof had started making noises about 3 weeks prior to my complaint. Shortly after i had noticed that the rear part of the plastic roof had completely separated from the metal frame to which it was glued. I took the car in to the dealer for action and they informed me that they would order a new roof, but that it would take 4-5 weeks to get the new top and that it would take another week or so to get it painted to match my car. I informed them that there was a danger of the roof possibly flying off to which they replied "just go ahead and drive it, we haven't heard of anything like that and we've see much worse than yours"reluctantly and without choice i left the dealership and took the car home where it would sit unless there was zero chance of rain. Due to the separation, any rain would get right into the passenger cabin of the vehicle. This past friday, june 2, 2006, i brought the car back to the dealer because i received a letter stating my top was in stock. They told me it was in stock, but was being painted and that i would be called when it was ready. Since it was a good day with no chance of rain, i decided to drive the car to work. Leaving my office that evening around 6, my roof completely separated and flew off the car.i had just accelerated onto the main road at a normal pace. I was just reaching around 35-40 mph when i heard a whoosh and suddenly i could see the sky. I saw the panel land in the road behind me, and was able to make a u-turn and retrieve the panel.i was in contact with gm customer service about this and all they could do was offer more excuses as to why i still have no roof for my car and how sorry they were. My car has been sitting useless in my garage now for around 5 weeks. If desired, i have detailed pictures of the roof and the panel that flew off, thankfully no one was behind me when it happened.

I purchased a 2006 chevrolet corvette in january of this year and have been hearing there was going to be a safety recall on the removable tops. There have been some instances of the tops flying off of the cars at highway speeds. My cars top has come completely off and is undrivable. I am currently working with gm and my local dealership to get this resolved but all i am getting is back talk from the gm representative. All i did to get my top to come off was shut the drivers side door one day and it popped up and almost fell off. I understand these tops are only held on by some kind of urethane glue that is coming loose. The top on my car now has completely come off . Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the hard top detached from the vehicle along with an abnormal noise that was heard. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was advised that the glue failed to hold the hard top into place. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 93,000 and the current mileage was 95,550.

I was driving my 2006 chevrolet corvette at around 50 mph, and the painted roof separated from the frame. I immediately pulled over and took the roof off, and went to the chevy dealership. They informed me there was a recall, but it was usually a voluntary recall for you to go in and have it inspected, and if it checked out to be bad, they would fix it. The dealership informed me that they couldn't get a roof panel for this car for 20-30 days and that they would give me loaner and i could leave the car there. I am out of town on business, and will not be here for 20- 30 days, and my opinion would be that if the dealers know there is a recall, there should be plenty of panels available if the roof is under recall. I also believe they should replace all these panels on all vin numbers affected. The roof panel coming loose and flying off and either damaging my vehicle, or even worse, causing a loss of life to someone in the vehicle behind me would be tragic. Chevrolet should own up to their errors and fix the problem properly, not by repairing the panels that were defective. They should be replaced.

2006 corvette top has delaminated

Roof delamination on 2006 corvette z06. It happened on the freeway and almost hit another vehicle. Gm must recall all corvettes and fix the problem!!

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette.while driving at a moderate speed, the roof panel detached from the vehicle.the outer shell was separated from the inside.the contact has taken the vehicle to the dealer and they keep replacing the roof panel.he stated that he would like to replace his rooftop with a different model that gm manufactures, but the dealer stated that they could only replace it with an identical rooftop.the current mileage is 16,000 and failure mileage was 3,000.

The painted roof of my car flew off on the highway this morning. There is a recall on some 2006 corvette's but, not on all and mine isn't under recall. We contacted gmac the person we spoke with said yes this car wasn't recalled but, your still under warranty so you won't have to pay anything. We said we understand this but, this car should have been recalled and wasn't and advised we are concerned for the other cars that were produced right before and after mine could have the same condition. She didn't seem too concerned.

Dt*: the contact stated the roof panel detached from the vehicle.there is an nhtsa recall, # 06v181000, regarding the structure: body: roof and pillars.the vehicle vin was not included in the recall.

2006 chevrolet corvetterecall problem customer states after talking to dealership he is still not satisfied with the recall**ccthe consumer has tried to have the recall fixed by calling different dealerships to no avail.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 80 mph, the roof separated from the vehicle without warning.it was taken to the dealer who replaced the roof.

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette.while driving 30 mph the removable roof disengaged and crashed into another vehicle.there was no police report filed.the current mileage was 15,442 and the failure mileage was unavailable.

For weeks prior to failure, i had heard popping sounds around the painted removable roof that i thought were due to the frame creaking.on the date the roof flew off, i had parked the car at work and it was over 100 degrees outside.i left the parking lot, turned onto a short street, and stopped at a light.when the light turned green, i turned left and the roof flew off at about 25 mph.it landed in the left-turn lane of opposite traffic.i was able to make a u-turn and retrieve the top without anyone hitting it.i've talked to the dealer and gm customer assistance and get different stories.the dealer initially said they could not order a new part because they were back-logged.then gm customer assistance said that the couldn't provide a replacement because a new roof was being designed and wouldn't be ready for 4-6 weeks, around sometime in august.today, the dealer said that they were going to order a new roof, have it painted, and use that as a replacement.i told them that i was concerned because i had read on a corvette forum where some repaired roofs have also separated/de-laminated in addition to the repair often leaving ugly glue residue on the tops.but mostly, i am hesitant to accept a current roof due to liability concerns should another roof separate from the car and injure another driver...especially a motorcycle rider. Since i am getting different resolutions from the dealer and customer service, i have no idea what is going to happen.however, i did tell the dealer of my concerns of a new roof separating and that i may not be able to accept anything but a redesigned roof.they indicated that at least i would have a roof in place and be able to drive the car. They weren't sure if they could actually order one or not, but felt that they could and that customer service was wrong is saying that only redesigned roofs could be ordered.

Roof panels on 2005 & 2006 chevrolet coupes come loose from the roof frame and may fly off the vehicle at highway speed. My panel came loose but did not fly off. Gm / chevrolet has parts back ordered 90 days and is only able to provide a temporary fix with no guarantee of adequacy.

Roof panel separated from metal frame.

I own a new 2006 corvette, vin [xxx], purchased from maroone chevrolet, pembroke pines. The painted (silver) roof panel began to separate last week with no warning. There were no popping, creaking or other sounds. The only indication of the impending separation was increased wind noise at highway speed. The noise began one day while at 70 mph, and would stop if speed was reduced to 60 mph. By the time i arrived home from my 30-minute drive, however, speeds of 55-60 mph were causing the noise, and obvious continued separation. I must use my car, and from an online forum, corvetteforum, i knew that those taking cars for repair by gm dealers are waiting up to several weeks for the repair, with no car, so i purchased a $1600 clear replacement panel from my own funds to use for now.i feel this is a serious safety issue, and extends far beyond the vehicles chevrolet will admit are affected.it seems obvious that someone will eventually be seriously injured, or if the circumstances are right there could even be death as an immediate or secondary result of roof separation while at speed. We owners deserve a prompt and effective fix. The attempt by gm at filling the voids with foam glue clearly does not work, as seen from those returning the reworked tops having subsequent failure.i don't know if prescribing a specific remedy is within your jurisdiction, but since gm has transparent panels, and those are not separating, owners should receive these in the interim. Those of us who purchased them on our own due to the defect in our original top should be reimbursed as well, to encourage prompt and complete replacement of all affected parts from use on the public roadways. Updated 07/16/2012 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

I heard cracking and popping of the painted roof of my 2006 corvette about 2 weeks prior to the whole roof ripping off at only 50 mph. In between that time the car was only driven 3 times and the time before it actually ripped off.i turned around and brought it home halfway to my destination because i did not feel safe. The morning it did come off i was taking it to the dealer to have it checked. It came off on the road i live on thankfully no one was behind me.

I own a new 2006 corvette coupe. On july 5th i began to develop a creaking sound near the roof frame and i began to notice wind noise at 60 mph. On july 7th, my painted (victory red) roof panel separated from it's frame. Fortunately it did not blow off while driving and no one was hurt.the fact that gm is/has been aware of the problem and has not issued a recall for all '05/'06 coupes is unbelievable.my dealer has been great to work with but his hands are tied by gm. The painted roofs are backordered until late august and no alternative was offered by gm.in order to be able to use my $50k car, it was necessary for me to purchase a transparent roof.that is not the way to treat loyal customers (this is my 4th vette). Is gm waiting for a motorcylce rider to be decapitated before they issue a recall?

While driving about 45 mph i heard a popping sound and then wind noise. I then saw light coming through between the windshield and top. The top had delaminated from the driver side across the front and about 3/4th of the passenger side.i have both tops for this car ( the painted top and the clear top )it was the painted top that delaminated. I removed the painted top and put on the clear top.i took the car to the dealer and they have ordered a new top for the car.if i had been on the interstate highway and driving at the 65 mph speed limit the top would probably have blown off the car and possibly hit another car or caused an accident.the dealer has been very helpful and is trying to get the latest, improved top for me.

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, there was an abnormal noise coming from the roof of the vehicle. The contact mentioned that the glass roof top was moving out of position. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 09v491000 (structure). The approximate failure mileage was 89,000.

I had separation on my original top and received the "fix" as described in the recall memo by gm, however, the new top with the "fix" is separating also.i don't know how long before gm stops trying to patch the problem.they need to make the top one piece.

Roof panel separated on 2006 chevrolet corvette.vehicle has 1800 miles, damage occurred at 1650 miles.panel is loose from frame 80% around.if this panel had come off in traffic it could have caused serious damage to others.gm is aware of problem.

While driving at moderate speed, roof panel separated and flew off.roof panel damaged. Fortunately, it (barely) missed missed hitting the car behind me. Panel had separated from frame (roof frame is removable but the frame itself remained properly attached to vehicle). Vehicle is currently at dealer who has agreed to replace the roof. When vehicle brought in, i was told it was the second 2006 corvette coupe seen with identical problem that week!

2006 corvette, vin is [xxx]approximately 10 times while driving anywhere from 5 mph to 75 mph the steering wheel jerks the vehicle the left.......almost causing an accident many times by pulling me into the median.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Changing lanes on a busy avenue at lunch time going about 30mpg car lost control from the back and ended hitting a electrical post. After taking to shop and being repaired which took over 6 months i returned to the shop due to a noise in the right rear where the accident occurred and found that the rear axle was broken. It was decided that this was the cause of the accident.

I own a 2006 chevy corvette. I first got the service active handling light when i bought my car used at 31k mi. I took it in for service and the dealer fixed the issue by putting the plastic clip in the swps plug, as listed in the tsb. Approx 10 months later the service active handling came back on. It comes on sometimes and not others. Fortunately none of my wheels have locked up but i am worried for my safety and my families safety. Of course my car is out of warranty( 900 miles out) and i have to pay to solve this problem on my own dollar and worry that the wheels could lock up.

I purchased a 2006 corvette in june of 2010.since then i have had various electrical problems including, high and low tire pressure warnings, flat tire warning (tires were fine), service active handling system (has happened twice while driving, front tires locked up.. Almost got rear ended.i was sitting at a light, when to turn left and front tires locked up.pushed the clutch in several times but tires still locked up.turned off the active handling .. Chose comp drive mode, problem went away.several times lately the push button start does not start the engine, everything else comes on but nothing from the engine.change to a different gear, push clutch back in, nothing.. After several attempts, it finally 'catches" and starts.the tires have locked up twice since june of 2010.the push button start began malfunctioning on a daily bases about 3 weeks ago.i do not wish to fly off the highway into a ditch before this can be fixed. (active handling).

My active handling comes on for no apparent reason in my corvette causing immediate uncontrollable braking. It results in swerving and dangerous conditions.

2006 corvette coupe- front left tire locked up @ 35 mph. The recall clip had already been installed before i purchased the car. The tech at the local gm dealer called gm.and was told to replace the steering wheel position sensor.

When driving the service active handling system warning light appears on the dash. I have had the original recall fix performed on my car (orange/red clip) and had the steering wheel positioning sensor replaced. The problem is now back again.

Auto shifter gets stuck in park.shifter lock will not disengage when depressing the brake pedal.

My automatic shifter jammed in the d location and would only go to neutral and would not go into reverse or park, and the doors would not open with the button, this shifter has jammed in park in the past. This car only has 26k miles on it. And is not driven in bad weather. Not a good feeling to be traped in your car.

As of december 2018, all cars with navigation systems that have an incorporated clock, clocks stopped working, the reason is supposably due to a change in the government satellite technology.so there is no way to correct this without a software fix, this problem is not only on the 2006 corvette, but many other cars as well

2006 corvette coupe, roof delaminating, dealer took car and is holding indefinitely, gm won't act any faster, won't issue a glass roof until new roofs come in. I was told i can't have my car until new roof arrives and they don't know when that is.

Shifter assembly does not operate properly. The shifter locks and will not move from park to reverse or neutral or drive. Therefore, the car is inoperable. Many suggestions are to override such lockout mechanism however this creates a major safety issue.the car was at dealership, and they could not resolve problem, nor could they locate a replacement shifter assembly.i believe gmā€™s lack of providing parts, tsb or other remediations for this well-known issue will result in owners creating an unsafe vehicle and overriding the safety lockout that is not working. Therefore, i strongly would like nhtsa to launch an investigation.

Car will not shift out of park. Many owners have the same problem. The shift lock solenoid fails and you cannot get car into gear.

After car purchase ,on multiple occasionswhile turning right at very slow speeds the steering wheel would almost lock-up and the brakes would applyand kind of pump themselves andthe the service "traction control system " lightwould come on .once during art. Turn on a green arrowit happenedand the car behind me almost hit me because the car almost stopped during the turn .i had the same problem with an 05corvetteonly not as bad . The problem has happened 5 or 6 times since ibought the car, in varying degrees . I bought the car used as is or i would have returned it to the dealersince i'm sure they knew about the problem . I took it and had thecar fixed. It cost me$371.the repair shop found theabs & traction control sensor and steering angle sensor not working right and replaced them. Only 30000 miles !!

2006 chevrolet corvette. Consumer states that while driving 30 mph the active handling system engaged and the front end of vehicle began to shake. *ldthe consumer stated the dealer could not duplicate the failure.

Bought used 06 corvette.brought car in to gm dealer for repair of rear window since my tint installer said window was defective.i also noticed the images through the window are blurred badly.the tint appears to clarify the images. Dealer said must see gm rep for replacement.noticed another 06 corvette had same blurred rear window, however the 09 corvette rear window is improved but still creates blurred vision.

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette.the visibility in the rearview mirror was distorted and blurred.the dealer stated that every other corvette was affected and there was nothing that they could do about it.they did not specify that this was related to any recalls.the failure mileage was 15,and the current mileage is 2,085. Updated 05/23/07.

I was driving down the road and hit a small pot hole.the alloy rim of my new c6 corvette split in half around the circumference causing partial loss of control in traffic.speed was approximately 40 to 50 mph.it appears the wheel induction welding is flawed.i fear other wheels have the same flaw.at speed, this could be the cause of a fatal accident.i am a mechanical engineer and it appears flawed to me.i have the wheel in my position and i have pictures i can email.

When the vehicle be in 1st gear , it makes a weird noise, i took it to the dealership, they replaced a screw on the rear end but it did no solve the problem. The car only has 16000 miles on it now. I called the car manufacture she said it wasnt nothing they can do. Im afraid the rear end might fall off.
