1998-2004 corvette would get the infamous "reduced engine power", "traction control failure" and a host of random failure codes. Still getting the random dtc failure codes. Directional signals and hazard lights stopped working intermittently while driving which is very dangerous.i have read so many articles on the internet and it seems thata lot of owners are experienced similar failures. This car is dangerous and not wrote worthy because of all the electrical problems.at one point while driving the car almost stopped because of some electrical failure. The government should look into this situation with chevrolet corvette's from 1998 through 2004 because after doing a lot of research on the internet i see a lot of complaints. Why hasn't this been a major recall for general motors? also found out thefactory wheels are cracking on the inside which is very unsafe to drive.i found this out when i had new original style tires put on the car. General motors should recall and repair all these issues that many corvette owners are experiencing.

Numerous problems with computer readout message: service abs, service active handling and service traction control. Dealer has found that communication is being lost between the steering sensor and computer.no reason why. Possible loose pin connection?all other equipment checks out ok.had loss of control and loss of braking temporarily.

Service column lock error message was displayed and the steering column was locked and i was able to drive the car about 1 car length before i realized that i had no steering ability.contacted gm customer service and they said that the car was recalled and serviced for this condition and that they are only responsible for one repair of this problem.

The blinkers stop working sometimes while driving. The abs lights comes on stability control. Headlights turn off and on while automatic twilight is on. The electrical system seems to have problems. The battery will drain after 5 days after being parked.i have been told by john hall chevrolet that this is normal due to the excessive power drain that the corvette computers put on the battery.this despite 3 "charge system fault" messages that have come up on the display screen.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet corvette. The contact stated that the service column lock warning indicator illuminated. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number:04v060000 (steering); however, the contact experienced a failure related to the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure to determine if a dealer could repair the vehicle. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000. I own a 2002 chevrolet corvette and have an issue with the electrical system that appears to be an issue that was investigated several years back on another vehicle.however, in doing internet research, it appears many corvette owners have experienced the same problem whereby the turn signals work intermittently and sometimes not at all or just stop working after they have blinked for a few times.i see this as a very dangerous issue as the drivers around you determine their braking and driving skills on what they see and they may get a false sense of warning when the blinker goes out and i stop anyway to make the turn.i would think that i would be cited by law enforcement and this problem appears to be a defect in the design or the manufacturer of the part.

Dealer said that it needed further diagnosis. Manufacturer has not been contacted yet.

This vehicle has been to the dealership numerous times for the following problems. The steering column system locked up 3 times. The dealership service the traction master, and active handling system several times. This failure has resulted in an accident.there's a recall for the electronic column lock 04v06000 but the vin number isn't included. Charged system once. The car is currently setting in my garage with all four of the above listed problems.

Horn is difficult to locate in an emergency situation since it is only a very small indentation onsteering wheel.

2002 chevy corvette active handling problems. Customer states that the vehicle brakes really hard when this happened while traveling 70 mph. He states he has seen other cases like this be fixed by replacing the steering sensor in the column.updated 01-15-08.the consumer stated the dealership test drove the vehicle and the mechanic found moisture in the right wheel sensor and put grease in the connector.updated 12/12/07.

The "active handling" annunciator warning occurs sporadically during driving at 60 - 65 mph. When this condition occurs, the car swerves right or left and yaws causing some loss of control. The control loss varies per each occurrence, some being more violent than others. I have had a gm trained technician troubleshoot the car with a scan tool and the result was a"steering wheel position sensor" (swps) failure indication on the scan tool.with the engine running and the scan tool connected, the indication of steering wheel angle was zero irrespective of actual steering wheel position.regardless of actual steering wheel position the indicator showed zero.i have researched your website and have found various service bulletins reflecting this problem.this is a clear safety hazard with respect to this car.it is also clear that the fault is either an engineering or manufacturing defect as there is nothing that a driver could do or input to cause this fault. I am also aware of gm's current publicity regarding their covering up of safety conditions in their vehicles with respect to ignition systems and would like this problem to be addressed and repaired and not covered up.repeat, this is a definite safely hazard and gm should repair this defect.it is also clear that gm has been put on notice of this safety hazard.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet corvette. While the contact was driving approximately 60 mph, the "engine" warning light illuminated. The warning indicator remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the technician stated that the failure was contributed to the secondary air injection system. The vehicle was repaired for the malfunction. The failure mileage was approximately 52,000.

Valve spring failures corvette 2002 to 2004

I was driving down the highway at normal posted speeds (65 mph) and my engine all the sudden cut out. It stumbled and died. I had it towed by l&a wrecking company to the shop. Turns out it was the valve springs the failed (apparently very common with corvettes) and almost caused a huge wreck due to me having no power.

While driving at 50 mph all the dashboard warning lights started flashing and then the vehicle died. The dealership cannot duplicate problem, cause unknown.

I have a 2002 chevrolet corvette that is in for repair for abs and other.the parta abs module does not seem to be available and may not be for another 2 to three weeks.this car has been in since 5/5 and i have no idea when i may get the vehicle back.i do not think it is reasonable to have a vehicle in for such a long time. The vehicle uses a lot of oil also, and engine noise is a problem. *nlm

As i was driving, coasting my car down a hill in buffalo, ny my 2002 chevrolet z06's motor shut down completely.i was making a right-hand turn when the vehicle lost all power-assisted steering and the vehicle could not be re-started.i later found out from the dealer where i had my car towed that my z06 had broken a valve spring in its engine.after some research, this appears to be a common problem with 2001 and 2002 corvette z06 models made by chevrolet.there are many examples nearly identical to mine where the vehicle's valve springs will snap and prevent the valves in the motor from operating successfully and thus preventing the car from moving under its own power.i believe this frequent problem is a safety hazard as many of these failures occur while the vehicles are being driven on public roads and are rendered inoperable by the failure. Moreover, after one of these valve springs breaks, the car loses its power steering function (that most drivers are accustomed to having in assisting their steering at low speeds); the function a driver would need most in an emergency situation where their car cannot maintain speed on a public roadway.

The engine emits a bird like churping noise irregardless if the vehicle is moving or idle. Possible getting louder over time. Chevrolet has known about this since 2/1/02. Still no fix. I call every 2-4 wks & receive the same story the engineers are working on it. Is this dangerous? totally frustrated.

I was driving my 2002 chevrolet corvette coupe about 30 mph and the right front wheel locked up.the display on the instrument cluster read "active handling".this has actually happened 4 times now.luckily i was only moving at a steady speed at about 30-35 mph.had i been driving down the freeway at 70 mph, i may have wrecked the car injuring or killing myself as well as possibly anyone else involved.for now i have to turn off the active handling to prevent this from happening.

Driving to work (in the dark) the low beam headlights shut off. Pulled the car over and turned the headlamp switch to on and they started working (was in auto sensor mode). Next day when i was leaving the house i turned the headlamp switch on, headlights popped up but did not come on. I could turn them to high beam and they worked but not on low. After driving the car and switching back and forth from high to low beam several times, the low beams started working again.

The plastic piece attaching the headlight vertical adjusting mechanism to the heaqdlight frame broke and fell off, causing large shifts in the headlight aim due to road irrregularities. Chevrolet does not make available detail parts of this rather complicated mechanism, making it necessary to buy a complete retractable headlight assembly for $1,000+. This discourages proper repair of this safety related issue.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet corvette. The turn signals failed intermittently.when the turn signals are inoperative, the driver cannot use them to signal intent to turn ,this condition could result in a crash. For two years, he concluded that the component was temperature sensitive . The dealership concluded that the hazard flasher switch was the cause of the failure. His model type was excluded from recall #03v327000 ( exterior lighting:hazard flashing warning lights:switch). The manufacturer was notified, but because of the age of the vehicle he was not provided with any assistance. The current mileage was approximately 70,000. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

1.each time the fuel tank is filled up there is a strong fuel odor smell.2.recently there is fuel leakage on my garage floor directly in front of theright rear tire & fuel on the side and bottom of the fuel tank.3.gm said car was out of warranty for this issue.

I have a 2002 corvette convertible. Each time the fuel tank is filled there is a strong fuel odor smell in the passenger compartment of the car. Even with the top down the smell causes headaches and nausea! all it will require is a single spark to cause death! it is time to force a recall on all 1997 to 2004 c5 corvettes!

July 19th 2014 i purchased a 2002 chevrolet corvette z06 from autonation ford in littleton colorado.july 26th after returning home i parked the car in my garage. When i came out to move the car later that afternoon the steering column would not unlock.there was a message on the driver information center that said "service column lock". I immediately called autonation chevrolet, since the vehicle is chevrolet, to see if i could get some advice on how to resolve the issue. The service manager checked with a technician and i was told that the car would need service.autonation chevrolet referred me to autonation buick gmc. The car was towed to autonation buick gmc on the morning of july 27th 2014. After determining that their dealership was incapable of doing the repair autonation buick gmc had the car towed to ed bozarth chevrolet park meadows for repair. I researched the issue & found out that the "service column lock" issue was a recall issue in 2004 for corvettes. The "service column lock issue also effects the fuel system and limits the car to 2 mph. First notification of the recall went out to owners on august 2nd 2004.i contacted gm on aug. 1st 2014, 1 day short of the 10 year limit on recall work. Ed bozarth informed me that the repair would not be covered under the recall.i then contacted gm corporate to inquire about the recall.gm corporate informed me that the recall work had been done on my corvette in 2006. Since the same "service column lock" issue arose, the recall work failed.i asked gm corporate if they would cover the failed recall repair and i was told that they wouldn't. I would ask that since gm's recall work did not solve the "service column lock" issue that they cover the approximately $1500 repair that i had to pay for to get my car back in a drivable state.

2002 chevrolet corvettefuel leak/smell near left side of fuel tank.fuel is visible and accumulates near fuel neck hose. Occurs frequently through daily driving.

At about 15000 miles the fuel tank began leaking/smelling of gas after a fill up. Dealer did replace tank under the extended warranty.dealer description:25565 leaking fuel tank line l1280 2.1 (gmpp) inspected the fuel system for a leak and found the hard line to the top of the fuel tank is leaking at the connection to the tank. Removed the fuel tank and drained the tank. Swapped the sending unit and installed the new tank. Repairs were done on the right side tank. Tech 2310.

Fuel tank just filled, gauge went to empty & check gauges light on. Seems to return to normal after 1/2 tank of fuel used.

Fuel tank leak due to a split in non metal tank.

I own a 2002 chevrolet corvette that has recently developed a serious fuel leak when refueling car. Not only is this a fire hazard but also the leak allows raw gas to be released into the atmosphere, a pollution problem. I did a search on this problem on a corvette web site( corvetteforum.com ) and found this to be a wide spread problem in the c5 versions of the corvette. The car was built on 4-3-02, and first delivered on 7-19-02. I am the second owner, car has 51,156 miles, has had all required maintenance performed and is kept in like new condition. Since this is a wide spread problem with this particular vehicle, and the safety and pollution hazards it presents i feel gm should be required to repair at no cost to the consumer these blatant design errors. If nothing else, the repair should be covered under pollution laws. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

Fuel tank leaks when fueling car. This seems to be a common issue with the chevrolet corvette in the years 2000-2004. On all public forums this defect is reported by many corvette owners. Why isn't the epa or the nhtsa investigating all of the years instead of just the 2004 models? the recall should be expanded. What is the delay? should someone die in a fire first? or should we band together and file a class action suit against all parties, including the nhtsa.

Steering column lock-up on 2 corvettes ( 97 & 02 ) locked up 3 times on the 2002 corvette & 1 time on 1997. Both mirrors broke on 97 & had to be replaced. Fuel gauge would go from half to empty & later back to half on 2002 & passenger door would not unlock w / remote & sometimespassenger windowwould not go down when convertible was put down . Read-out on heater / temp. Gauge & radio display would fade in and out.

Dt*:the contact stated cracks were discovered in the spokes on both rear wheels of the vehicle.although the vehicle was taken to the dealership for inspection, no repairs were made.updated 3/9/2006 - the wheels were inspected by factory representative who authorized the dealer to replace both rear wheels at no cost to the consumer. The electric fuel pump was also replaced.

1. When the fuel gauge reads just below half, sometimes the gauge will suddenly jump to empty. Note that i normally refill the tank (completely full) when the fuel gauge reads about one eighth of a tank remaining.2. When this failure occurs, the vehicle can only be driven a few miles before running out of fuel. This has happened four times, all in the last four months. 3. I took it to the dealership that i purchased it from and they said they could not duplicate the problem and therefore they would do nothing about it. I called the gm service complaint number and they stated they would do nothing to assist me in getting this problem fixed.

The gas gauge on my 2002 corvette goes to empty while driving, the dic flashes " low fuel" & the check gauges light comes on. Just as suddenly, it will start working again several days later. I paid a local dealer ~$700 to replace the fuel tank sensor unit about a year ago. Since then the problem has recurred several times. Now the dealership is telling me to add a gas additive, only available from chevrolet at $25 a treatment, to fix the problem. After adding a bottle of the gas treatment, my gas gauge went to empty & stayed there for 3 days.i understand nhtsa investigated a similar problem for the 2000 malibu (ea02028), but no recall was ordered. Surfing the web, this looks like a common problem on chevy autos & trucks.have contacted chevy owner assistance who contacted the local dealer & parroted their "old" gasoline explanation for fouling the sensor. Why do you use a sensor that is not compatible with the fuel available to your customers? i only use fuel from brand name suppliers. This is clearly a defect in the gas sensor & needs to be treated as such by chevrolet.

While driving 85 mph vehicle stalled. Vehicle has been serviced seven times due to stalling once the fuel gauge reached 3/8. The dealership was going to replace thefuel gauge again.

Car has fuel leak. Once i turn on the car it starts leaking gas. I could be stationary or in motion, it still leaks gas. It also smells terrible inside my car. I am worried about my health and other corvette owners. Some corvette owners may not even notice and next thing you know there car is on fire. Worse case scenario they could be injured or even death. This is a safety issue and gm should recall this. Im lucky to be even writing this i could've blown up while driving the car.

Fuel tank leaked gasoline into garage of my home. Was afraid of the house catching on fire from the fumes and afraid to drive car because of fuel leaking onto exhaust system. This seems to be a common problem with corvettes. It would be nice if gm was made to reimburse customers for this rather expensive repair.

After fueling vehicle and parking in garage the vehicle for days will smell very strongly of gasoline until gallons are consumed via driving to approx. 3/4 of tank.vehicle is not over filled !no visual indications of fuel leaking on ground. This also happened since on july 12, 2016 last time vehicle was fueled.

Filled vehicle with gas on march 22nd.drove car home and parked it in garage.the next day, i smelled a strong odor of gas.when i backed it out of the garage, there was a small puddle of gas on the floor.

My complaint is with the local dealership who refused to allow me to bring the car in so a new seatbelt could be ordered.

Driver side power seat moves during moderate accerleration and braking. I attempted to get it corrected under chevy techanical bulletin no. 02-08-50-002 dated 3/13/02 because i was unaware until a friend mentioned to me that he had to get his seat fixed on his vette under the same bulletin no. When i tried to get it fixed the dealership told me that my vehicle was not "covered" under that bulletin no. And that i would need to contact chevrolet. My friend ownes the exact same car as i do, his can get fixed but mine can't? i have never owned a car that the seat moves under these conditions. What happens when the thing breaks one day if i have to break hard? i end up thru the window? i'm more curious why the dealer would not fix it? they admitted that my seat moves but said it does not move enough to warrant falling in the bulletin repair. How much does it need to move?

Electronic brake control module (ebcm) controls the anti-lock braking system, traction control system, & stability control system.my ebcm module has failed, as with the vast majority of most all corvettes made from 1997 through 2004.the module requires electronic re-soldering of the printed circuit board. The display reads "service column lock" and the steering wheel locks.with multiple resets by unhooking battery negative cable finally the column lock released.gm issued several recalls regarding this but at this point they refuse to back that up with the documented repair on this vehicle.i have contacted the local dealer coad chevrolet in cape girardeau, mo.we will find out how committed to customer satisfaction they are.gm does not seem to be very concerned about the safety issue that this poses to a driver.

The steering column lock appeared on the dash screen, telling me to pull key and wait 10 seconds... It doesn't allow me to drive the vehicle at all... Apparently it has been fixed but, i am not satisfied with the result of my car shutting down on me when i need it at most.. I hope this issue is taken into consideration to get resolved...

Steering wheel is locked after parking it after work. The recall on all other vehicles my year that has been fixed by the factory has a wire ran to the pcm are computer not sure what they are calling it. But the fix will not let the steering wheel lock. And i have watched a lot of youtube videos on this in all of the factory fixed recallsthe steering wheel doesn't lock. From what i see it tells me that the fix is complete. It is a 2002 with only 68000 miles. Any help please?

I took my car in for a steering colum lock recall, the car was running fine before i took it in. Once i got the car back to my house, two days later the steering wheel locked while in gear and has not unlocked to this day. I called the dealership (which was penske chevrolet) and spoke to john who told me "well we already did the recall so it must've been a part or something else". I was furious and explained that i'm not going to pay for some part for the same thing that should've been fixed. I could see if maybe they found some part unrelatable that needed to be replaced, but not the exact same thing that was for the recall!! what if the wheel locked up on me with my son in the car on the freeway or something? i don't know if the dealership is just trying to get money out of customers like this or what, but the car only has 6 miles on it since i took it home from the dealership that day. So within that six miles it has been locked and hasn't unlocked. I just simply want my car to be safe to drive. Any help you guys could give me i would greatly appreciate it. I don't know what else to do. Thank you.

Backing up from a private parking place i almost crashed due to the steering column locked on me. I tried to free it but it wouldn't release. The car computer indicated i should remove key for 10 seconds and reinsert to free the locked steering wheel, no success. Had car towed to the chevy dealer for a fix. Dealer said their was a recall on this defect back in 2004. Dealer records indicate that i took the vehicle in for a recall but i don't remember what the recall was for. Nonetheless, i have no records explaining what was specifically done at that time on the recall. The dealer also has no specific records on that recall. I am the original owner. The dealer here in pahrump nv fixed the problem and said that the problem was a computer defect causing the anti theft plate to lock the steering plate. They remove the steering plate and install a harness kit and lock plate eliminator and charged me $199.60 . I understand that recall don't expired, whether they haven't been performed or improperly repaired. I object to being charged for a defect that gmc interduce. This defect is dangerious. Clearly gmc did not think out the comparative risk of a computer failure causing the locking plate to disengage causing the car to be stolen; or causing the plate to lock while driving the car into a deadly event.

On june 10, 2010, my 2002 corvette, 'manual" transmissions," was at brandon auto in roanoke va., where they were replacing the original tires with 4 news tires. The car has just over 29,100 miles. Brandon stated that when they attempted to drive the car out of the garage, a warning light appeared stating, "service steering column." the car would shut off, and could not be driving. It was towed by aaa to pinkerton chevrolet in salem, va. Pinkerton was the gm dealership that in oct of 2006 corrected the "steering column locking device" under the nhtsa action number: ea02031and gm recall no. 04006.on june 16th pinkerton diagnosed and replaced the steering column lock, and i was billed $624.80.when i questioned them about the above recall/defect of the steering column lock, the pinkerton service manager stated that the car was no longer under warranty. I picked the car up on the 16th after paying them in full. That same day i called gm's customer service and filed a complaint, #71-839793121.on june18th i was informed by gm customer service that "gm" was not responsible for any additional problems with the steering column recall/defects. When i asked for a supervisor, they put me on "hold" for over 30 minutes and then "hung up" on me. Had i been driving the car when the steering column defect occurred, it could have cause a crash resulting in possible serious injuries and property damage.i would appreciate "nhtsa odi" investigation of this serious vehicle defect. Also,gm should be responsible: a). For notifying all corvettes owners of this continuing problem with the steering column lock; b). Recalling all vehicles and effecting corrective repairs at "no cost" to the owners; c). And ensure the corvette owners that gm's corrective action 'is a permanent fix to the problem."

Warning light occurred once i tried what was said, remove key & wait 10 seconds, did this numerous times to no avail. Tried to move car once it hit 1 mile per car stalls.

Dt: no problems leading up to the failure, and then while backing car out of garage, steering column locked, removed key, waited 10 seconds as shown on dashboard and the vehicle started.wentfor a few feet and the fuel lineshut car off.had to push car into the garage and then had it towed to the dealer the next day. They replaced the locking parts, rack/ sector/ lock bolt that locked the steering column, which had been recalled 04v06000 in 2004. The dealer wanted to charge a deductible because the recall had already been done, but gm authorized the repair with no deductible charged.

I started my 2002 chevy corvette z06, but the steering column locked and would not unlock.a warning light indicated to "remove key and wait 10 seconds"i did this, but it did not allow the steering column to unlock.per advice from the local chevy dealership, i disconnected/reconnected the battery, but again the steering lock would not unlock when the car was started.it currently cannot be driven and is stranded in my garage.i am the original owner and understand that recall:04v060000 was issued for this type of problem.after contacting my local chevy dealership, they said because the car is ten (10) years old, they may not have to honor the towing and repairs at no cost. Because i have moved several times in the past three (3) years i have not received a recall notice.

Steering column lock safety recall has not been resolved after 6 attempts!this morning the service column lock error occurred while on the highway at 65 mph!!!!the engine was disabled and was not able to be restarted!the car was towed to my house where it now sits dead for the 7th time!chevrolet and general motors have decided not to continue to fix this problem any more because now they are claiming i am out of warranty and the vehicle has now a branded title from light flood damage.the vehicle has supposedly passed ct dmv inspection and was sold to us with a branded title from a local licensed dealership in my area.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet corvette. The service active handling system light illuminated intermittently on the instrument panel. Whenever the light illuminated the vehicle began pulling to the right and the brakes responded as if she were driving on ice. She had the option to cancel the service active handling system or turn the vehicle off and restart it so that the vehicle would function normally. Occasionally all of the warning lights on the instrument panel would illuminate which caused the active handling light to malfunction. The failure was identical to recall 10v172000, steering column which was specific to the 2005 chevrolet corvette.in august 2009, a customer service engineer stated that it must be an anomaly or a bad sensor that caused the failure to occur. The dealer had not diagnosed the failure; however, during a routine oil change in june 2010, she was advised that the service active light had illuminated. The contact can provide a copy of her invoice. The contact was also concerned that canceling the service active handling option was a safety risk. The failure mileage was 55,000. The current mileage was 62,000. The vin was unavailable.

Steering column will not unlock.try to move car and fuel shuts off. Problem well documented. Dealer claims vin# not on recall list however is under warrenty. As this happens randomly the dealer will do nothing unless it is locked when brought in.

I had the same column-lock issue that has been widely reported on the c5 corvette.i received my recall notice for my 2002 manual-transmission vette and had the recall performed.i had had no previous problem with the steering column locking.the dealer told me that they checked the column-lock mechanism and then reprogrammed the computer.however, several weeks later, my steering column locked upon startup.

The contact inquired with the manufacturer in regards to nhtsa campaign id number: 04v060000 (steering: column locking: antitheft device) but was informed that his vin was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 71,000 and the current mileage was approximately 73,000.

Steering wheel interlock problems (again after recall).

Steering column lockup on 2002 corvette with manual transmission.scenario is as follows: when starting the vehicle the steering column does not release the steering wheel.the steering wheel remains locked in position.this can be extremely hazardous if it occurs at stop sign or stop light after the driver has accidentally killed the vehicle and needs to restart.when it occurs the only course of action is to call a tow service and get the vehicle off the road.gm states that the vehicle is fine.the event does not log an error code so when they plug their computer into the car they find no problems.its seems over time the steering column will release when restarted.i had waited 30 minutes on one occasion and the column released.for today's incident, after four hours the column would not release.many corvette owners have opted to disable the steering column lock "feature" with an aftermarket device.i will be doing the same shortly.

Regarding a 2002 c5 corvette.steering randomly locks up.the car can only be towed then fixed by a dealer.this can even happen while the car is in motion.any corvette only from the year 97 to present can be affected. Gm knows this is a problem and will happen to almost every vette owner.this is extremely unsafe and gm is not to doing there job to fix this problem even after 8 year from the original date to which this first occurred.this is unacceptable.

This vehicle has been to the dealership numerous times for the following problems. The steering column system locked up 3 times. This failure has resulted in an accident.there's a recall for the electronic column lock 04v06000 but the vin number isn't included. Charged system once. The car is currently setting in my garage with all four of the above listed problems.

Dt*:the contact stated recall letter # 04060000 was received. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the steering wheel could not be removed to perform the required repair.to perform the remedy repair, the dealer manager determined the steering wheel would have to be broken and the cost of new steering wheel would not be covered under the recall. The dealer contacted the manufacturer who agreed with the dealer's decision.the manufacturer was pending for resolution and provided a reference ref#1-423750902.the vehicle remained at the dealer for more than a week and the contact continues to wait for the manufacturer's resolution.updated 09/15/06.

Steering column lockup on 2002 chevrolet corvette, a model year not covered under current tsb/recall campaign.

Driving in a parking lot the steering column locked up. The recall for this problem had been completed but theproblem was not fixed.

2002 corvette convertible has rear wheel with 2 stress cracks leading to total loss of air.

The window seal on the driver side molded and cracked, which caused water to leak inside the vehicle.

A few months ago i noticed my driver's door was hitting the guide whenever i closed the door. Thinking the hinge needed some adjustment, i took the car to the dealer a couple weeks ago to find out how to adjust it or to have it done if it is covered under the warranty. The evaluation concluded that the door (fibreglass) was cracked and an entirely new door has to be installed (including painting it and repainting adjacent areas of the body.) my concern is not the immediate fix, since it is covered by the warranty, but if this continues to occur in the future, not only will the repair cost be very high, but there would be a danger of the door falling off while driving. The dealer told me that they have already replaced three doors at their facility, so i presume the issue might be much larger nationally. I am awaiting the repair at this time. *la

There is a clicking noise at the rear wheels during low speed forward and reverse travel.the dealer has twice (july 2008 and march 2009) tightened the rear axle nuts to temporarily solve the problem.i'm sure about the consequences of this complaint, but if the axle nuts were to fall off there probably would be damage to the vehicle and/or other vehicles because of a car accident.

The government should look into this situation with chevrolet corvette's from 1998 through 2004 because after doing a lot of research on the internet i see a lot of complaints. Why hasn't this been a major recall for general motors?ongoing problem and the dealer has no answers for a resolution.also found out thefactory wheels are cracking on the inside which is very unsafe to drive.i found this out when i had new original style tires put on the car. General motors should recall and repair all these issues that many corvette owners are experiencing.

Run flat tire went flat, could not find leak in tire. Found the problem was cracked rim.since car has never been abused, this is a factory defect. Gm needs to issue a recall tofix this liability, it seems to be a widespread problem involving thousands of c5 corvettes.proactive recall may save lives !!

I have a 2002 chevy corvette. Both of the 18" rear wheels have cracks at the corners of the five spokes. These are factory wheels with original tires, no abusive driving since the car was new.

2002 corvette right rear wheel cracked.rpo code qf5 style wheels.is a big safety issue.is a known problem with these style wheels.car has approx 75,000 miles on it with no other damage or abuse to car or wheel.discovered via tire pressure sensor indicating tire was flat.on inspection the wheel was cracked through rim which resulted in the flat tire.

This car has had a prior cracked rim that was replaced out of pocket. Now a second rim cracked. There are multiple reports of the rims on the 2000-2004 corvettes made that have not for what ever reason seem to not be addressed by this agency because there are no related deaths or injuries. There is large amount of information on the corvette forums and the following information available from an email which the poster claims was sent out by nhtsa "currently there are 9 reports of wheels cracking involving model years 2001 and 2002 chevrolet corvette vehicles in our database. However, available data indicates that the cracks are minor and that there no reports of a driver losing control of the vehicle due to crack wheels. Thus, there does not appear to be a safety-related consequence associated with this problem. Under these circumstances, there is insufficient evidence to warrant opening a safety defect investigation at this time. The information you have provided has been entered into our database. We will continue to monitor this issue and will take farther action as necessary."i myself now have a second rim that is cracked and gm is refusing to cover the replacement due to non warranty. Despite the tsb 070310003 from nhtsa item number : 10021451. Is it the position of nhtsaand gm that a cracked rim is not a safety issue and it is ok to operate the vehicle at posted speeds in texas up to 80 miles per hour with cracked rims? is it the position of nhtsa that until there is a loss of life or serious bodily injury that there is not a safety hazard or it is not worth the time to investigate and recall these rims?

Noticed a slight vibration coming from rear of car when driving on a paved smooth road at 65 mph. Upon later inspection, i discovered a 2" long cracked lr wheel the crack is located at the base of one of 5 slender spokes where it connects to the barrel of the wheel. Any retailer who lists this 18" forged aluminum wheel is out of stock as this upgraded wheel was under-designed for the loading that happens to a high performance vehicle. This is a common problem with the c5 corvettes and could result in a catastrophic accident at high interstate speeds.

Aluminum wheels of speedline manufacture as supplied on gm corvettes exhibit cracks in parts of the structure seriously compromising the safety of the vehicles.predominant model years affected are the 2002-2004 series. The wheels are identified as the thin-spoke design. The tip of the iceberg can be found in complaints on the "corvette forum". Sometimes failure is referenced by a loss of air pressure dumb luck inspection. Must there be deaths before action is taken?

The driver side rear wheel on my 2002 corvette coupe has a crack in 2 of the spokes. I took it in to my chevy dealer (crest chevrolet), they took pictures and submitted a claim to gm. The gm rep. Had the dealer take the tire off the wheel and see if the cracks go through to the inside and get the factory number off the inside & verify it was a gm wheel. The dealer service rep called me and said gm agreed to pay for half the cost of the wheel. I told the service manager that gm's offer was not satisfactory and i would proceed in filing formal complaints.they fact that these wheels are a problem that gm is aware of has been discussed and documented on the corvetteforum.com website.http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=1461736.

I have a 2002 c5 corvette, the rear rim has a crack in the spoke. I went on corvette forum to see if others have had this problem. There where several other people that had the same issue. Several had taken there cars to the dealers, some under warranty some not and gm would not replace the rims. This link was actually on thecorvette forum asking people to write to you and possibly get a safety recall started. I only have 39000 miles 0n the car. I feel this is a big safety issue, i didn't notice it until i had new tires put on and the mechanic told me. This could be a very dangerous issue should the rims come apart on the highway. Can you please see if others have reported similar issues, i don't know what it takes for a recall to be issued, but i feel obligated to report it.

Lr tire began loosing air (overnight while sitting in my garage), i filled the tire only to find it low again the next day.i took the car to the tire shop expecting to find a nail in the tread, no holes were found in the tire so the technician sprayed his solution on the rim only to find air leaking from a crack in the chrome rim.further investigation uncovered multiple cracks on the rims at the rear of the car where the spokes attached to the rim.i thought if these rims are in this condition there must be more. This car is in brand new condition 27,000 miles garage kept and well cared for.the manager at palmen's chevrolet sent pictures to chevrolet with an explanation no bruises on the rim no idea of how it happened.i am guessing bad heat treatment, chevrolet told me i am on my own.

I have a 2002 corvette i recently purchased from a friend of mine.while cleaning the car recently i noticed a small crack at the base of one of the spokes on my left rear rim.this crack had not been there previously.worried about the structure i went to a local tire shop to order a replacement.while there i noticed a 2000 corvette on the rack for tires.i went over to look at it's rims and saw that the left rear had 3 spokes cracked.i ordered a new aftermarket rim, mine are gm and went home.when i got home i rechecked the vehicle and now saw that the left had more fractures coming from the original crack, and now the right rear also had a crack at the base of the spoke.the car has 46,000 miles.the wheels have never been curbed and only one new set of tires has been put on at a reputable tire company.i checked on a corvette web site and got many responses of additional corvettes with the same problem.
