Seat belt on drivers side stuck in retracted positionwhile parked in locked garage
I have a 1984 chevy corvette that has the passenger seat belt retractor jammed.i found the recall in your database (91v143campaign #91c26).i spoke with my dealer and he told me that they don't service recalls over 10 years old and can't get the part anyway.i called the 1-800-222-1020 gm number and was told that they don't have info for cars over 10 years old, so they have no way to verify if this is open for me.my vin number is clearly within the breakpoints and i am having this issue.i thought that gm had to honor safety recalls and they didn't expire ever.now my passenger has no working seatbelt.
The contact owns a 1984 chevrolet corvette. The contact stated that the seat belts were stuck in the mechanism. When locking the seat belts into the latch, they would lock and fail to unloosen. The vehicle was taken to dyer chevrolet (1000 us highway 1, vero beach, fl 32960, 772-208-9152), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 172,000. The vin was unknown.
No summary listed for above vehicle.

This is regarding a recall issued by chevrolet - 91c25 and 91c26 - for the failure of the seat belt/retractor mechanism. The recall was issued in 1991, and i have been trying to get my car fixed since the date of failure which was in 92 or 93. The recall is in your archives as nhtsa campaign 91v143000. Each time i try to have this corrected by a chevrolet dealer, i am told they will have to order the parts and will contact me when they arrive, then i never hear from them again. Upon the most recent occurance of this cycle, i called chevrolet customer assistance. I was eventually told by a supervisor that chevrolet would not correct this problem, even though the recall notice says "if either safety belt in your corvette is currently locked-up - or ever locks-up in the future - we will replace the safety belts at no charge". This is recorded by chevrolet customer assistance as case number 990326932. I am astonished that chevrolet can claim that they do not have to repair a known safety defect when their recall notice states that they will "currently ... Or ever ... In the future".
