The last 2 days when i drive at night the headlights (low beams) shut off.i switch to the high beams and they work.this has happened in the dark and is dangerous because it happens about 30 or 40 minutes after driving the car.i let the car sit for 4 or 5 hours and then come back and they start working.it is the underhood bussed electrical center (ubec) housing i suspect.

2007 chevrolet corvette z06." service active handling" message appears on instrument cluster at random intervals. Sometimes message precedes an application of one or both front brakes while vehicle is in motion causing a very dangerous driving scenario. The vehicle has only 3800 miles and has been returned to the dealership (lone star chevrolet..houston, texas) one before for a fix. A sleeve was installed in the steering column as per a gm directive. The problem returned within 500 miles of driving. I have asked the service department to remove the active handling from the cars computer and they say they cannot. The vehicle is unsafe to operate with this issue if the brakes are applied. I have discussed this issue with numerous other corvette owners (online at the corvette forum) who have also experienced this same issue and only a few have had the problem finally corrected. Others, like myself, must continue to take the vehicles back for another fix.

Front left brake lockup - service active handing system error.

As i was driving on the highway my car started to swerve left then right, resulting a total wipeout. I was driving at safe speed and with control. The "service active handling' warning came up after i took control of the car on the side of the hightway.

There is a serious an deadly problem with the design of the michelin tires specified for the 2007 (an other)corvette z06. The side wall of the tire completely collapses while executing a sharp turn either going forward or backing up. Detailed discussion with supplier discount tire and second hand communication with the michelin leads me to believe that michelin and discount tire are both aware of the problem. The absolute fact is the tires do collapse when making a sharp turn. If one makes a sharp turn with any speed or acceleration will cause the tire's sidewall to collapse.danger danger danger!!!the home link system also does not work and i got the run around for years with no action taken.

At only 21,179 miles, my dealer inspected both cylinder head banks and found valve guide clearance to be well out of maximum allowed specification.this defect puts undue stress on the hollow, sodium-filled exhaust valves.if an exhaust valve breaks, the exhaust valve will drop into the combustion chamber, and cause a complete, catastrophic failure of the engine.this causes hazardous conditions for the driver, passenger, and surrounding traffic: the drive wheels may become locked as the engine seizes and the engine block may become windowed by a rod, causing a large spill of oil and coolant immediately under the vehicle on the roadway.these conditions could lead to a severe accident from a sudden spin and/or a fire.i have little confidence that the cylinder heads replaced on my car are free from the valve guide clearance defect.as more owners have become aware of the problem, replacement cylinder heads have been measured before installation on the engine and have been found to have defects in valve guide clearance and valve guide to seat concentricity, such as what could lead to a dropped exhaust valve and an accident.the vehicles should be recalled and fixed before any more serious accidents occur.although my vehicle did not fail despite having the defect, i have seen a video of a spin caused by the failure, i have seen pictures of a vehicle after a fire caused by the failure, and i have seen reports of approximately 35 failures; all from corvetteforum.com.therefore i am concerned about my safety when driving the vehicle and i believe the nhtsa should investigate the matter.

I've read several different posts about people with 2007 corvettes having problems with valves and dropping valves and losing control when this because of the power steering and brakes not working when this happens. I bought my 2007 corvette z06 new back in 2007 and i've always noticed valve noise and lately it seems a little louder. I hear the valve noise mostly driving it in town. I'm not sure if i should just wait for the valves to fail and take my chances or pay to have someone to pull the heads and check all the valves and repair any ones that are out of specification. So i think it's gm's responsibility to do a recall for this because in my opinion this is a defect and it would be very dangerous to drop a valve and lose control of my car. I spent a lot of money on this car and i just don't feel i should need to pay anymore money to diagnose and fix this problem. My headlights stopped working tonight and luckily there is a recall for that problem.

My 10,000 mile 2007 heads are at ahp for rebuilding. They reported back that 1 exhaust and 3 intake guides were worn past the service limit. Several others were close or at the limit.

Dangerous conditions.exhaust valve design causes ear that eventually breaks exhaust valve and destroys engine.exhaust valve loose enough to break and cause engine damage, possible fire and/or flammable fluid leakage.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtoa3vlgoes

The head issue valve guide on the heads was completely out of spec....have repaired car twice because of this issue '.

At 65mph, driving down the highway, the car made a horrendous loud clattering sound and the motor locked up. Pulled to the side of the road to see oil pouring out the side of the engine block, where the valve was spit out - causing a huge hole in the side of the motor

After months of reading about the exhaust valve issue with corvette z06s i took my car and had the heads checked. The shop found the valve guide clearance to be outside the specified acceptable range. The defect puts undue stress on the sodium filled valves and if the valve fails it can cause catastrophic engine damage and potentially deadly situation if this occurs at speed on the roadway as the driver will lose ability to control the vehicle potentially causing a deadly accident. I paid several thousand dollars out of pocket to fix this issue despite gm acknowledging there is an issue with these vehicles.

Abnormal valve guide wear in cylinder heads considering age and mileage of vehicle.potential catastrophic engine failure from dropped valve if not addressed.chevrolet should fix whether vehicle still in warranty or not as is believed to be poor quality control resulting in machining errors.

It is stock and no tune verified by ( reliable chevrolet in springfield mo. And show-me speed in nixa mo.) at 49562 mile it drop the #6 exhaust valve which in turn destroyed the motor i have had this carto 3 different shops and they are all saying the same thing excessive wear on all the exhaust valve guides 2 of the shops determined this wear caused the exhaust valve to break other shop couldn't say.

This model corvette can suddenly drop an engine valve (exhaust or intake) and unexpectedly develop a hole in the block accompanied with oil spilled on the roadway, smoke billowing with risk for vehicles behind and in front, and the risk for total loss of power steering, braking and control of the vehicle.the outcome if this happened on a freeway with cars traveling at a high rate of speed is potentially fatal.all of this is due to machining errors and supplier defects for the associated parts (valves, guides, etc.) on all 2006-2013 corvette c6 z06's made by gm.

Submission from constituent re repairs on his 2007 chevrolet corvette (the engine "dropped a valve")the consumer was informed, the entire engine needed to be replaced at a cost of $18,722. Instead of replacing the engine, at no cost to the consumer, general motors offered to pick up 45% of the cost, leaving the consumer to pay the balance of $10,630. The consumer stated gm issued an internal bulletin as far back as february 2008, that showed they were aware of the z06 engine failures and short life expectancy.

My cylinder head intake and exhaust valves were severely out of gm's .0037" maximum wiggle tolerance. The valves were tested by yuma auto and trans as well as american heritage performance (harbor city, ca).not addressing the issue may have caused a dropped cylinder valve and blown engine.

Exhaust valve guides are excessively worn beyond service limit.approximately 4 times service limit.this is a definite safety hazard to me and to those around me.the worn valve guide causes the exhaust valve to stretch, and eventually break.when the valve head breaks, it beats its way out of the engine, causing potentially:engine lockup, oil spill on highway, large smoke cloud and debris out the rear of the vehicle.loss of control of the vehicleimminent danger to those around me due to loss of vision and slippery roadway.this issue affects all 2006 to 2013 chevrolet corvette z06.

Valve broke and locked up engine. Car skidded off highway and was destroyed. I was driving on interstate and it was raining. No indication of problem before event

I took my car to american heritage performance in california and had the heads checked and they were all out of speck, at 16000 miles, and this car was only street driven, and had to have all this work done on a low mileage car was very upsetting, and in the end finding out that many cars have this problem. Having to get all this work done on a virtually new car is ridiculous..

I am extremely concerned about excessive valve train noise and after reading several corvette forum threads about improperly machined heads by gm's supplier linamar, and that numerous vehicles have had valves drop and ruin the engines causing a loss of control of the vehicle due to the engine stopping abruptly. 88% of the corvette forum members who have had their cylinder heads tested for excessive valve guide wear, were out of service specifications. Source: http://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c6-z06-discussion/3386141-the-out-of-spec-guide-wear-registry.htmlgm needs to issue a recall on this issue, there have been numerous engine failures as a result of a dropped valve into a cylinder which can cause severe accidents and fires. Gm is very aware of this issue, but refuses to do anything about this huge safety risk to drivers, passengers, and nearby vehicles if the engine fails going down the road. It has been noted on the forum that gm is very aware of the issues and i assume they think no one will report them for not handling it correctly. The issue is this is a critical safety issue for anyone driving a 06-13 z06 model on the road. I am to the point i don't feel safe to drive my vehicle anymore due to the loud 'ticking' valve-train as it is (symptom) meaning it is likely to fail at any moment seizing the engine while on the road. I have waited on gm for 6 years to do the correct thing on their own but i am now reporting it due to their gross negligence and disregard of their customers safety.

When i purchased the 2007 corvette z06, i was instructed to have the heads checked for excessive valve guide wear.i had the heads pulled and the valves examined by a local expert.he indicated that the valve guides were out of specification and needed replacement.i replaced these at my own expense of over $2000.00.had the engine blown up as a result of this defective condition, the breaks and power steering would fail causing an accident.i would like gm to issue a recall on this model corvette.

Exhaust valve broke due to valve guides being out of spec.engine seized. Immediate loss of power steering and brakes due to seized engine.

'takata recall' just bought a 2007 z06 corvette and lately i've been seeing a lot of complaints about the valve stems breaking and causing catastrophic engine failture causing the power steering and breaks to fail so now i have to pay 5000.00 + to get it serviced and every 10k miles do the same thing because the valve stem and guides get hot and start to wiggle

The exhaust valve broke off, and engine blew up. I was driving on highway.

I was concerned about excessive valve train noise and after reading several corvette forum threads about improperly machined heads by gm's supplier linamar, and that numerous vehicles have had valves drop and ruin the engines, i took my car with 27000 miles on it to a corvette specialty shop to have my valve guide clearance tested. I had (2) intake valve guides outside of service specifications, (4) exhaust valve guides outside of service specifications, and a combination of (10) other intake and exhaust valve guides at or near the maximum outside of service specifications. The car is being repaired with proper re-machining of the heads to make the valve guides concentric, new intake and exhaust valve guides installed, as well as new seals, valves, springs, etc.88% of the corvette forum members who have had their cylinder heads tested for excessive valve guide wear, were out of service specifications. My 2007 chevrolet corvette z06 droped a valve while i was driving home. I was on a regular 45mph speed limit road in traffic when i realized the car was losing power and quickly pulled on the side of the road because there were cars in front and behind me. Luckily nobody was hurt but if i had been on a highway in the middle lane someone could have lost their life including me. From the second i realized the car was losing power to the point the engine shut off was a matter of 5 seconds maybe. After doing much research online i found out there is a very common problem with valve guides being out of spec in this model corvette.

Valve train rocker arms broken leaving needle bearings in the oil, and all valve guides were out of tolerance.

While driving on the road at aprox. 45mph, my car exhaust valve dropped in the motor causing immediate engine failure also creating power steering and power brakes to stop working immediately.this same exhaust valve issues occurred with many other gm corvettes with the 7.0liter z06 motor.

Wiggle test on all valves showed all exhaust valves with excessive guid where....safety issue....!!!this can and has led to catastrophic engine failure at freeway speeds.......

On 09/03/08i brought my car to a chevy dealer for noisy lifters , they replaced the rocker arms at the #8 cylinder which made the lifter noise not as loud. On 11/07/08 as i got onto the thruway , i accelerated in second gear to get into the flow of traffic ,i pushed in the clutch to shift into third gear . As i released the clutch with no throttle applied , the car began to shake very badly . I then pushed the clutch pedal in looked at my gauges which were all dead. Then i looked into the rear view mirror and there was a large cloud of white smoke behind me . Then ihad the car towed to the chevy dealership and they called and informed me the next day that there was a hole in the engine block at the #8 cylinder . The dealership and gm refuse to repair the car under warranty stating that the car is used competitively of which it is not . I have found out that there have been many major engine failureswith the z06 corvette . Gm has a program for 2007 and 2008 z06 cars that have major engine failures where they send the car back to the factory where they repair or replace the engine . The document id #2067130 and #pip4132b of which i havea copy of . If there was not a problem with these engines they would not have the program in place .

While driving approximately 45 mph at night, sudden loss of both low beam headlights without warning.almost went off the road.i had to stop suddenly.nearly missed getting rear ended in the process.this is not safe!

Low beam headlights go out while driving? happens daily then lights come back on after hours? stranded 5 hrs on interstate at rest stop!

The low beams randomly stop working, after the engine heats up to operating temperature, and almost caused an accident. The behavior then repeats every time the car is used (not a one-time event). I, and other owners have identified a common circuit issue in the headlamp controls, which is only fixable by replacing the whole board.

In may 2009 i made a road trip from my home in ny to tampa fl, when i left ny my 2007 zo6 corvette had 1500 miles during thetrip i was not involved in any accidents, when i arrived in fl the next day (drove straight through)i noticed that both front headlamp lenses had numerous tiny cracks in them, i called a local gm dealer, i explained the situation, they stated " i must have hit something" i was livid i then called my dealer in ny they said not to worry and would look at the vehicle when i returned. I arrived home on a saturday night 1st thing monday i called beck chevrolet and spoke to the service manager, he said bring it over ,i drove car over immediately, only the service manager looked at car, no 1 else saw my vehicle the service manager stated there was no chemical on my headlights, he said there was a bulletin from gm and they could do nothing, it was a mysterious chemical that caused this problem, i then called gm and asked for a review, when i called gm back several days later they said they spoke to a mechanic @ beck chevy who stated " that he inspected my car and there was a chemical on my head lights, this is no way true i was present during the entire time 20 min car was @ dealer and only the service manager looked at vehicle. I then called gm again and wrote a few letter explaining what happen, they said chemicals used by auto detailers causes headlights to crack, i brought up the point that beck chevy had an outside person detailing my vehicle when i picked it up, but they couldn't tell me why and what chemicals he used ( i personally saw this person detail my vehicle), i gotten no other response from gm. I believe that the lenses cracked because of heat from the long drive to fl from ny with the daytimerunning lights and have the lights on throughout the night, lights were on for approximately 20 hours straight. On the way home i turned the daytime lights off but turned them on at night, as of today my corvette ( baby ) has 4,013 miles.

2007 cehvrolet corvette. Consumer writes in regards to a gas tank leak. *ldthe consumer requested the manufacturer's to cover the repair cost.

Vehicle has a really intense smell of gasoline inside cabin when cars parked or in drive.

There is a leak at the top of my fuel tank. Whenever the tank is 3/4 fill or greater, fuel sloshes out of the top of the tank and pools on top of the tank and sometimes drips down onto the exhaust.. Parking the car overnight in the garage is filling my garage with fuel vapors and i am concerned the dripping fuel may be a fire risk.

When i had the motor checked proactively the exhaust valve guides were outside of gm specifications. This defect can cause the head of a valve to snap off and destroy the engine. The engine will stop working immediately, causing the power steering and power brakes systems to fail. The valve failure can cause an oil spill onto the road if the engine is compromised. There have been numerous documented cases of engine failure as a result of a dropped valve into a cylinder. This can cause a catastrophic accident or fire. Gm is very aware of this issue, but refuses to do anything about this huge safety risk to drivers, passengers, and nearby vehicles if the engine fails going down the road. I was forced to spend in excess of $3k to insure i did not harm anyone or myself. Best regards

Vehicle is always stationary when it gets stuck in park, and unable to shift into gear. I let it set for a few minutes then push start again. Sometimes it will shift into gear and other times it will not. 50/50 chance one way or the other.this has happened several times since i inherited this vehicle from my father in early 2017 with 48,000 miles on it.fast forward to today 03/09/2018vehicle does not go into park but is "stuck"in neutral, does not go into park or any other gear.

My vehicle is a 2007 corvette zo6 with approx 5000 miles. I noticed loud noises from the rear differential. I thought i had a flat or someone had tampered with my vehicle. There was no visible sign of the cause of the problem. The noise stoppedafter a short time. I called the dealer who indicated the rear differential fluid was the source of the problem and needed to be changed. I had that done but found that a friend of mine had the same problem (2006 zo6) in which the fluid has been changed twice in less than 10000 miles. I believe this could be a major problem and could result in failure of the gearbox especially at high speed. Chevrolet has not satisfactorily addressed this potentially serious problem over 2 model years.

There is a serious an deadly problem with the design of the michelin tires specified for the 2007 (an other)corvette z06.

I noticed my steering column was loose.i pulled the lower column cover off and the left steering column tilt pivot pin fell on the floor of the vehicle.i looked at the other side of the column, and the right pivot pin was halfway out.i tapped them back into place, and they went back into place easily.i have discovered another driver of the make and model who has told me that his pivot pins have fallen out more than once.

The right front oem wheel on the vehicle had several spokes that were busted completely in half. There was no abuse to the wheel, no impact or curb rash of any kind. The vehicle has never been raced or operated on any kind of track environment. There have been several reports of the same failure on the www.corvetteform discussion boards. Gm has ignored the problem and denied any type of compensation or ownership of the problem. I have since replaced the wheel with another oem wheel. This type of catastrophic failure could result in a life and death situation.
