Driving on snow and ice truck downshifted slid into rock and back wheel broke off we rolled 4 times air bags never deployed.

Air bag light comes on making it unclear if occupants are protected or if air bag will just go off on its own. Problem is wires in back door jamb become fatigued and break causing failure of air bags. Vehicle is also considered an inspection failure as well in massachusetts.

Air bag light is on.3 wires broke in extend cab rear door.

At different times turn signals, brights, brake lights will quit working and dash light indicator that air bag is not working will illuminate. This can happen while driving or when first starting up. At times you can push stalk up for a right hand turn and left turn signal indicator will light up and blink. If you push the stalk down for a left turn signal nothing will happen.

Airbag light remains on after starting engine bought vehicle used

Quiet morning no traffic. I was driving east on 28th street in grand rapids, mi. Between 15-20 miles i was approaching a traffic light.no potholes, small dents on the road when suddenly out of no where the air bags exploited and deployed out. The air bag hit my right hand and also block my visibility. This incident cause to hit the car in front of me, it took me by surprise.

I was hit from behind in my new chev.colorado 2005 pickup. I washitby a vehicle at 40 miles per hour and no air bags deployed.my dealer said there are no air bag sensors on the back of thisvehicle.is this true? i was badly traumatizedphysically, emotionally, and mentally. I am under a doctor's treatment

Sept of 2014 our chevrolet colorado had issues with not starting. The dealer diagnosed it as "code issues" and replaced a safety sensor. The issue was never resolved as check engine light stayed on. Oct of 2015 while driving, the airbag light came on and never went off. Also oct 2015, about the time the airbag light came on, we received a letter stating that a wire harness in this make, model and year of vehicle could cause code problems and or the airbag light to illuminate, and that gm would fix it at no cost to us, if the vehicle was within 10 yrs old or had 120,000 or less miles. Last year when this started our vehicle was 9 yrs old, yet gm will not pay for it saying it's not a safety hazard. I completely disagree as the light stays on all the time, how am i suppose to know if it's really not airbag failure as opposed to the faulty wire and harness? this letter was dated oct 2015 yet gm is saying the offer on this expired oct 29 2014 yet we didn't receive a letter until 2015

Was drivingmy 2005 chevy colorado and very tired veered off the county road, hit a utility pole on left side front andtruck rolled over air bags never deployed

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. The contact noticed the air bag lightilluminated on the instrument panel. I was traveling on spruce road in exeter, ca at approx 55 mph when i rear-ended a car that was stopped.i did not have time to hit my brakes or swerve at all.i hit the back of the car very square and hard.the chp officer said that my air bag sensors were hit and the bags did not go off.

Front end collision on freeway at about 20-30 miles per hour when driver ahead stopped suddenly.applied brakes and they failed to work... Truck did not stop.truck is totaled (happened on 9-26-07 - preliminary estimate of insurance adjuster).in addition, the driver air bag did not deploy, even though front end damage was extensive.seat belt protected the driver from serious injury.the brake light recall notice i received was acted on and a dealer did fix it recently.

Air bag not functioning properly. The light blinks upon start up and then turns off, about 30 seconds to 1 min later it comes back on and stays on. Chevy will not look at it because im over 36k miles.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado.while driving at an unknown speed, the contact suffered a seizure and passed out.she crashed into a tree and the air bags failed to deploy.she sustained knee, chest, head, and facial injuries.a police report was filed.the chevrolet dealer referred the contact to gm, where she filed a claim.the failure mileage was 31,000.

Iown a 2005 chevrolet colorado with less than 50,000 miles.when i started the truck the airbag light typically will turn and blink.thiswa san indication of the airbag system testing itself to determine that the sensorswere working properly.however, the airbag light wason.if you read the owners manual for the colorado, it stated that if this occurredthe vehicle should be immediately returned to the dealership service center for repair.also, the manualstated caution and was followed with notifications which stated that the airbag sensor system may not be operating properly and the airbags may not deploy if a crash occurred or that the airbags may deploy at any time while operating the vehicle.i have already taken the truck to the dealership in march 2007,where they charged me over $1,200, and stated that the parts were not covered by the extended warranty.after repeated phone conversations with the delearship service center and gm customer services the dealer finally repaired the vehicle at no expense to me.this was great, except these disputes over the costs took over 2 weeks withthe truck in the shop, and problem came back july 11,2007.it seemed that this was a very serious problem with chevroletcolorados, and the consequences of having this type of part failure could be very dangerous and deadly if the airbag were to deploy at a any time, perhaps while drivingon the highway at 65 mph.it seemed that colorado's had many electrical issues which needed to beinvestigated, and gm should take a more aggressive approach to identiifying theseproblemswhichweredangerous for their customers and correcting them.itwa svery hard to feel safe and comfortable driving a chevroletwhen the airbag coulddeploy at any time because of a faulty airbag electrical system.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving at 45 mph the vehicle was in a frontal accident. Upon impact, the driver's side nor passenger's side air bags deployed. The driver's seat belt was in use. However, minor injuries were sustained. There was no indicator lights on prior to the accident, and pre braking did occur. The vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop and the condition of the vehicle was unknown. The manufacturer has not been contacted. T a police reportwas taken .

The brake light switch installed by chevrolet to replace the brake light switch that they had recalled, had also failed to work.it stopped working shortly after they had installed the new one, but i hadn't realized because i thought my brake lights just kept going out. I wasn't even aware that there was a recall on the brake light switch and that they had replaced it when i had taken it in for another recall issue. I even told my mechanic and he just replaced the brake lights.it wasn't until much later that i realized my lights were actually fine but that the brake light switch was not activating them.i reported this to gmc and they said that they would not fix it unless i paid for it out of pocket ($137 for a diagnostic test, $64 for the actual replacement).

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. While the vehicle was stationary, burning fumes emitted inside the vehicle. After an inspection, it was confirmed that there were burned wires in the vehicle. The contact replaced the wire harness and a temperature control regulator. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 170,000.

2005 chevrolet colorado 102,000 miles.vehicle flashes "reduced power" on information display then shuts down engine.luckily i was able to coast in to a parking lot out of traffic.engine refuses to start for a couple of minutes then fires up.has done this a number of times since.engine code given is p0601 "check sum error", ie computer glitch.this is an unsafe condition, instead of reducing the engine so that one might get out of thraffic, the fact that it kills the engine is a major safeyt risk.poor programming to say the least.

Fire fire firean air conditioning resistor pack overheats and catches fire in the air conditioning plenum. This is the fan speed control resistor. I found mine to be melted down and the socket that it plugs into was also severely damaged. The only recommendation that the dealership offered was that i pay them to replace those components. I purchased those components and installed them myself. The same thing happened again. I determined that the ground used for several components in the cabin was insufficient and poorly connected. I replaced the factory installed ground with a heavier gauge wire and attached it to the tubular framing behind the stereo . This was a sufficient fix and i believe it is in gm's best interest to remedy this issue before a gm vehicle catches on fire in a carport or with children on board.

2005 chevy colorado wiring harness on fan control burnt up at motor plug. Wires in harness started smoking and melted plastic. Harness and resistor had to be replaced.

This has been going on for about 3 years off and on.on average, about twice a week, when i try to start my car using my original factory keys (i've tried both with same results) the security icon lights up and the truck fails to start.i then have to wait 10 minutes for it to reset.i've contacted gm about this problem and they have told me to take it to the dealership after that happens.when i was finally able to stop by a dealership, they told me that they needed the problem to happen there for them to diagnose and that scanning it would do no good.when i have to be somewhere, i have to now plan to leave at least 10 minutes early in case my truck doesn't start.sometimes it happens 2 or three time in a row and i'm waiting 20-30 minutes for the system to reset.i've discovered online that a lot of other people have problems with the passlock system.

The conduit or wire cover from the cab of the truck to the extended cabs rear driver side door cuts wires in half after repeated door use. This prevents speaker from working and makes an airbag problem light display on the vehicle control panel.

The passlock anti theft system on my 05 chevy colorado failed this winter leaving me stranded out in the cold for a half hour or more on multiple occasions. To reset it you must turn the key forward and wait ten minutes, then repeat that two more times before it will reset and then the vehicle will start. However it takes a special type of scanner that a dealership must plug into the internet to reset the code so unless you pay a dealership to do that you have to keep trying to start your car (up to a half hour of trying) for the next 100 ignition cycles. I had to do this in january and february this year in -10 to -30 degree weather and no chevy dealership would reset the code for less than $90.

I've tried to have a garage repair/fix my heater/fan motor three times to no avail. Heater works on high only...and not on any other speeds.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. The contact stated that the vehicle would intermittently stall without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis, who advised that the ignition switch would need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacture was alerted of the failure. The failure mileage was 35,000.

Loss control of vehicle on black ice; car spun and rolled at least one time.air bags did not deploy; person had to be cut out of vehicle due to the doors not being able to unlock.

When i slow down my vehicle begins to spudder and sometimes turns off. At first i thought it might be the fuel filter which was changed but problem persists. The vehicle has shut down on the highway when i slowed down for traffic. I place it in neutral while still in motion and turn it on again then immediately put the vehicle in drive to avoid getting hit. I first thought it was just my vehicle until i came on her today and found other people with similar problems.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. The contact stated that the ignition module failed, causing the vehicle to stall sporadically and without warning on multiple occasions over a period of years.the contact stated that he had to put the vehicle in neutral and then restart the vehicle constantly. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer multiple times who was not able to neither replicate nor diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 60000. Updated 06/05/14*ljthe consumer stated a mechanic stated the battery was the cause of the failure. The battery was replaced but, the failure continued. Updated 06/09/2014

The ac fan only works on high (4).the ac fan switch has a known defect in the resistor switch for the fan.this can cause the wiring to overheat and start a fire.gm has already recalled the hummer h3 for the same problem.the recall should be extended to the 1st generation chevy colorado because it has the same fan switch resistor.

A/c & heater controls not working. 1st time took pick-up in and was fixed under warranty at hudiburg cheverolet in oklahoma city, ok. The same thing was happening again around 1 1/2 years later took back to hudiburgs again and they refused to fix it because it was out of warranty. A couple of weeks later it began to work for a little while then stopped working altogether.

The wiring harness and the resistor pack for the hvac burns and is melted and could possibly cause a fire. This is not just an electrical hvac problem. It is a grounding problem, and causes all kinds of problems. The hazard lights, blinkers, and stop lights all stopped working on my truck. Most of the dash would go out intermitly. The aux plugs stopped working. I had replaced the battery, wiring harness and resistor pack twice. General motors knows about this problem. It also affects the gmc canyon, and the isuzu i-280 pick-up trucks. There should be a recall to correct this problem before someone is killed. No brake lights, no turn signals, fire/smoke in the cab, etc.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. The contact stated that the air bag warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnose that the extended cab driver side rear door wiring harness that included the radio speaker, seat belt, and air bag wires was broken. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 79,300 and the current mileage was 79,400.

Faulty wiring harness that burns under the dashboard/glovebox on the passenger side (feet area).the harness controls the blower motor fan speeds 1,2,3 setting and has a resistor.the wiring harness/loop begins to melt and subsequently burn.my passenger brought it to my attention after it singed his shin; i unplugged the wiring loop prior to catching on fire.there are many online complaints at chevy colorado forums i.e. Edmunds etc.thank you.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the dealer advised that they were unable to perform a diagnostic on the information that the contact provided. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer advised that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number 14v047000 (air bags, electrical system) the failure mileage was 72,000 and the current mileage was 82,000.

Driver information center on a 2005 chevy colorado z71 extend cab p/u switches from english to spanish. Miles change to km. All without touching anything. Truck has 36,500 miles on it. Dealership says the dic is bad and needs replaced. Of course they first told me that it will be covered under the speedometer settlement for other gh dic's. Not! this is a four hundred plus dollar repair. Problem started about 32k miles.

Hello, i just purchased a used vehicle and it has the same passcode problem that my 2000 express van has. This is a substantial problem and gm is not owning up to the problem and should have a fix for it. How long are you going to ignore that ''tis is a serious problem and in an emergency situation having to wait 10 min. Could be life threatening. All i want is the 05 colorado to work, i'll be selling the van and passing the problem to someone else. Time to stand behind your vehicles, this will be my last gm vehicle if you won't fix it.after 30 years of loyalty you should have my back

Poor gas mileage, rough idling. Poor gas delivery and bad electrical switch, engine light stays on,had engine analyzed come s up with numerous error codes, problems are on going......

2005 chevrolet colorado 5 cylinder 4 wheel drive automatic 68,000 mi engine misfire 7 times taken to garage $1,300 paid and no one could fix problem. Finally took vehicle to dealer who charged $325 to change spark plugs and then admitted that there was a problem with this engine. Intake valve seals are defective. Nowvehicle needs a $500 repair of front transaxle seal. All electrical connectors on this vehicle are of inferior quality, i have experienced 3 failures of stoplamp wiring,4 failures of signal light wiring, and 2 failures of a/c blower motor, all due to poor electrical connectors. My concern is that in case of an accident the air bags would not deploy because of a similar problem. This is a potential safety issue, and should be evaluated.

The contact owned a 2005 chevrolet colorado. While driving approximately 35 mph the contact noticed thick smoke escaping from the dashboard. The contact pulled the vehicle to the side of the road and exit the vehicle. The contact also noticed flames underneath the hood. The fire department extinguished the fire. A fire report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The cause of the fire was undetermined. The contact did not state if there were any injuries. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 52,000.

While driving out of the blue car says "power reduced. Traction fault." then the car rolled to a stop. Power steering was gone. All electrical systems shut down. Car would not start unless sitting for several minutes. Then it runs for about a minute then shuts down again. This repeatedly happen several times on the way home.

No speed required. The a/c & heater not working. It was fixed while under warranty and it worked for a series of months and then it began acting up again took the vehicle in and it had just gone out of warranty. It was obvious that the issue was exactly the same problem and they refused to complete their work. In the winter or during damp weather it's impossible to drive due to windshield fogging up. It presents a very unsafe condition.

2005 chevrolet colorado 2wd pickup with 3.5 litre engine and manual transmission. Regular cab. This vehicle is poorly designed and supported. There has been a hesitation and backfire since it was new in may 2005. Numerous attempts to have gm fix it have met with stoney indifference and total non suport of their (gm) suposed warrranty. It also has a foot operated parking brake and this on a manual transmissioned vehicle is in my opinion an accident waiting to happen.

Ac blower fan works in high only. Upon checking the wiring i notices the resistor and the wire harness were burnt which caused the problem. I replaced the wire harness and resistor which fixed the problem. Upon further searching i found many others with the same problem and some that ended up in fires under the dash.

On saturday morning my truck would not start.i went to jump it, and with no keys in the ignition and not jumped yet the windshield wipers and interior light went on.this went on for over an hour.i replaced basically a new battery.the radio did not work and dash lights did not either.on tuesday, april 17 after i picked up my son from school, the car started to make a loud scrunch noise and started to stall off and on.when i pulled into my drive way and shut off the engine i smelled something burning.i went to open the door and it would not open.i tried to open the windows and they would not go down.it was smelling really bad like something was on fire.about 25 seconds later, with no key in the ignition the interior lights went on.i put the key in the ignition but did not start it and tried the windows again and my drivers side went down and i got my son out through the window.it had to be towed to the dealership.they said it was my alternator which is getting fixed.reading all the complaints i agree, why has this not been recalled.it's around 50k miles and the electrical goes. Luckily me and my son got out.

I have a 05 colorado. Extended cab 4x4 w/ 14,200 miles. I am the original owner.more than once i have had trouble with the driver side window won't go down and the door locks do not work.this problem is very annoying, frustrating and time consuming. It is not an uncommon problem, check out the on line forms related to colorado's. My dealer checked for recalls and tsbs with out help. I am very disappointed in gm as they know this is an issue, but they don't want to or seem to have an answer. Four years ago i had the option to by foreign but bought american instead.

1. Normal driving.2. Brake light switch failure. Brake lights inoperable along with inoperable cruise control. There were no consequences, however having no brake lights could result in sever consequences. One has to wonder if a wreck had occurred would it be considered my fault since my brake lights not functioning was the cause of the wreck?3. I replaced the brake light switch with a new gm part purchased at a gm dealer. I have 3 of the last 4 failed brake light switches. The first failed switch was thrown away. The p/n of the most recent failure is 25796381. That is also the p/n of the part purchased by me today. The p/n for the other 2 switches is: 15912229 & 1518647. The last time my brake light switch failed was 03/2008. I have owned my truck since 3/2005 i believe.

The abs light comes on and brakes go to the floor with minimum to no stopping power. When this happens the brakes wine. After this happens brakes return to normal but the abs light comes on and stays on until the vehicle is cycled on/off. Once the computer sees that there is no issues with the abs, the light goes off. This leaves you to believe that there was a "bug" in the electronics. Then without warning or a duration of time the problem comes back. And then this process starts all over again. Whats happens when i need the brakes to prevent a accident? after researching online this is a very common issue with this vehicle.

I have an 05 four door colorado.in my years of owning it, i have s had several episodes in which the driverside window won't go down and the door locks do not work.this problem has taken up to a month or so for the truck's computer or what ever to work out the problem and start working normally. I have been to the dealer and they say they can't help except for a new switch which costs $200.00.i have also checked out various automotive forums and found multiple people having the same issue and having it multiple times.i have checked for recalls and tsbs with out help.gm knows this is an issue, but they don't want to or seem to have an answer.i paid good money for this truck and did not expect a four year old to have multiple electric episodes like this.

About 1 yr. And 1 month after i bought a chevy colorado, the thing shut off on me. The first time it left me on the side of i-55 and did not want to start. It did though, but the engine light was on, it soon went off. The dealer reprogrammed the computer. It has shut off on me 4 more times. The dealer will not fix the truck b/c it is not storing "codes". Also, the traction control on the truck seems to engadge itself at the oddest of times when there is really no tire slippage and this has me sputtering and jumping while i'm trying to drive in traffic. At first start up, the truck has always made this rattling ping noise out of the muffler. Every time i step out of the truck, i shocks me, i beleive due to the nylon in the fabric seats. The turn signal will only "tick tock" when it wants to. The hood on the truck will "bow" or "bubble" in and out while driving, usually on the inerstate when there is some little wind blowing outside. The alarm on the truck has gone crazy on me a few times. I can unlock the door, it will go off but the radio inside the truck will be playing. If i were to cranck the truck up, turn the engine off, get out, and lock the door, the alarm will be going off about five minutes later. This cycle will keep going on until i reset the computer by pushing the gas pedal three times. All the dealer and gm wants to offer me is an extended warrenty, which the warrenty i have now is doing me absolutely no justice, i refused it. They told me that they cannot work on the truck b/c they cannot duplicate the problems at which they drove it twice, and the computer is not storing codes. This problem seems to be compleately spurratic and unpredictable. I have invested alot of money into this truck and still owe on it. I refuse to be forced to pay for and drive a hazzard.

While driving, the radio will lose power, then the a/c will stop working, then the entire dash will lose power (no speed, tac or gas gauges).then all warning/ failure lights come on.will reset after you turn car off.been to dealer 7 times for same problem.

I am experiencing an intermittent issue where the passlock system fails when attempting to start the vehicle and i have to wait 15 minutes for it to time out.there areforums with this model of truck that state this is a common problem but i have found no recall on it.i have found that the ignition and body control modules were to blame and currently dealers are charging upward of $1100 to repair.this should be a recall issue due to the widespread problem and that it is a known defect specific to this model of truck.

The relay for the brake lights under the dash has failed 4 times on my chevy colorado.the last two failures occurred after the part was replaced with the supposedly redesigned part from the recall.when this happens the brake lights fail to operate and no indication is given to the driver.

2005 chevy colorado hvac fan/diode connector for blower motor. The blower motor has been malfunctioning for the past 12 months. The a/c fan speed finally has stopped working in all speeds except high(4). After searching on line i have found many consumers reporting the same issue. I have searched for listed recalls and have not found any and i feel this issues should be addressed because of the fire risk it poses.

On 23 june 2010 i was driving my 2005 chevy colorado to work when i began to smell burning wires.i shut off my vent fan switch and the smell went away. I turned it back on and the smell returned. Later after work i found a charred wire connector and resistor next to the fan motor.the resistor had been previously replaced in 2006 when the vehicle was under warranty. There are alot of posts on-line from owners of the same vehicle complaining about the same issue.i can tell the short started in the resistor where the connector hooks into it. The part number of the resistor is 015218254, and the connector is 015306069. The resistor is made in slovenia.i feel this needs to be a recalled item because of the fire hazard.

Truck has push button 4wd controls. Three times it has switched to 4wd from 2wd i was at slow speed once in reverse and each time i was turning the steering wheel to the right. Had the truck into the dealer for a defective power steering pump and reported that to the dealer, they said they could not duplicate the situation.

Driving down the road, all the sudden started to get a burn smell. Had to pull overand have the truck being towed to the shop. The problem is the harness connector to the a/c- heatingblower was burning. Luckily i had discover the problem on time. This problem could be a dangerous fire. We need this problem to be addressed and fixed since all the owners of this vehicle have been having the same issue.

Left power window, power door locks, clock radio, dome light quit working randomly.dealer cannot duplicate problem.onstar doesn't work sometimes.battery seems to go dead if it sits more than 5 days, remote for door locks range is horrible but they say it's normal to have to stand right next to the truck to unlock / lock it.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. While driving various speeds, the contact noticed that the abs and traction controls would illuminate without applying pressure to the brakes. The air conditioner switch would shut on and off while driving over a pot hole.the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure and advised the contact that there were no recalls.the contact did not inform the manufacturer nor was the vehicle repaired. A local mechanic inspected the vehicle and advised the contact that the electrical system needed to be repaired; however, it was non repairable. The current mileage was approximately 96,000 and the failure mileage was 95,000.

The hvac fan motor resistor & connector melted around oneof the prong connections and wire. The resistor and wire harness are located just under and behind the glovebox on the passenger side. The result of the burning of these parts is that the blower speeds of 1-3 do not work but 4 still functions normally. This problem is more than an annoyance of the fan setting because the cause is melting wires and burning connections near the passenger's feet. Hopefully this connection can be recalled and redesigned before something serious happens. This appears to be a very common issue as evidence from this blog. Http://coloradofans.com/forums/67-technical-questions-tips-how/112853-hvac-fan-motor-resistor-connector-replacement-mmp.html.

Changed the battery. Causes the door switch to go out. The driver's side window, the door locks and keyless entry will not work. You need to hope the window is not down if you change batteries or have a dead battery needing a jump start. The dealer charged me $400 for a new switch. A check of the internet shows many many people have had the same problem.

My 2005 chevrolet colorado will activate the abs system during braking on warm dry pavement and the vehicle will not stop. During these events the abs failure warning light was not illuminated. The brakes have failed at 4 mph and at 25 mph. Other times, the abs failure warning light is illuminated and the brakes work fine. No consistency and will not repeat for mechanic.

The blower motor resistor and the wiring is broken for the third time. This time there were burn marks on the wires which worries me about a possible fire in my dashboard. This occurs while the vehicle is on. This overheating/burning of the resistor and wires causes the blower motor to not blow air which in phoenix, az is a must due to severe hot weather.

My truck wont start do alarm or anti-theft system it crank but wont start.

Ignitinion switch triggers anti-theft secure on truck so it would not start i wait for 10 minutes then it starts, dealership could not tell me a few years ago when i took it, and mechanics tell me its a defected ignition switch but only dealer can fix it, its a recall thing from what mechanics are telling me. Its a shame mechanics outside the dealership know more then dealership on what it is been recall.

Several times over the past six months i have been left stranded temporarily by my colorado not cranking. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it. Some days it cranks fine. Others, it may take as long as 45 minutes and several attempts to get it to start. I have found many fellow colorado owners have had this same issue and it seems to be caused by a faulty pass code switch/sensor in the ignition. I believe that this should be a recall issue due to numerous owners having the same problem.

The third pin in a plug that controls the heat/ac shorts and causes burns marks in the inside of the plug and almost through the plug. Had to replace the harness. There are also complaints on coloradofans.com of the same problem.the part number is a featured part on gmpartsdirec.com. Part # pk15218254http://gmpartsdirect.com/results.cfm?singlepart=1&partnumber=pk15218254coloradofans.com link is: http://coloradofans.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=48293this has potential to be a fire hazard and people should probably be getting a recall or refund on the parts they are having to replace.

The nhtsa item number for this problem is 10013546 my 05 chevrolet colorado truck has a fan speed setting of 0-4 with 0 being off and 4 being high. About a week ago speeds 1-3 stopped working leaving only off or high. This told me it was the fan resistor. Once i found the resistor i noticed the pigtail connector and the resistor terminals were melted. I assume this is from excessive heat. After a quick search online i noticed there were others having the same issue. The only replacement parts for the problem are the same parts and have not been re-engineered. Which will eventually lead to the same problem down the road.. This is defiantly a fire hazard and malting is only 1 step away from the flash point of plastics. To this moment gm has not issued a voluntary recall on the vehicle. Chevy refused to pay for the repairs but did offer to send me a service certificate worth$200. That great but it doesn't fix the fire hazard, nor the recurring problems.

My cruise control stopped working and then my break lights. Put in new break bulbs and they still do not work! i was dri ing when cruise control went out and my husband noticed my breaks while i was driving.

The a/c blower control switch doesn't work in positions 2 or 3, but functions properly in positions 1 and 4.

Air bag light comes on making it unclear if occupants are protected or if air bag will just go off on its own. Problem is wires in back door jamb become fatigued and break causing failure of air bags. Vehicle is also considered an inspection failure as well in massachusetts.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. The contact stated that the instrument panel was flickering. The contact had a safety concern because the speedometer was not visible. In addition, the vehicle failed to accelerate after a complete stop. The failure occurred on several occasions. The dealer stated that the body control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vin was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 68,000.

Vehicle stalled while driving.was able to restart but would only stay running for a few seconds.after several attempts it restarted and stayed running.since that time the vehicle intermittently stalls immediately after starting and requires several attempts to restart and keep running.security system light is on.dealer said it could be the key, or the key switch, or the body control module (bcm), or all three.research online indicates that numerous chevy colorado owners have the exact same problem and have been told similar things by dealers.in fact numerous owners of chevys with the passlock security system have the same problem.it feels unsafe to drive a vehicle that stalls and won't restart.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. While parked, the contact started that the vehicle and noticed the starter kept running once the vehicle had started. The contact shut the vehicle off and after restarting it did not experience the failure. The failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnostic test. The technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The contact replaced the starter. The failure continued after the replacement of the starter. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 24,000.

The cooling/heating blower fan speed resistor and wiring harness on the 2004-2009 chevy colorado has a shorting problem which causes the truck to have a smoke smell and may lead to a fire if not checked on. I found mine after smelling smoke for a few months and started checking where it was coming from. I found the fan speed resistor connector and associated wiring harness burnt and slightly melted. I would have taken to the dealer but it was out of warranty and did not want to pay there high labor costs. This is the second time changing this out in the last year and i found that there is a common grounding point on the passenger side fender wall which over time becomes corroded and makes a bad ground most likely causing the shorting problem. If this is not worthy of a recall then i would like to at least have a warning notice sent to owners so they would know what to look for if this happens to them.

2005 chevy colorado.blower motor failure on lowest 3 of 4 fan settings.did online research, learned common failure was resistor / connector (melting of wires and connector).checked mine.it showed signs of overheating (grey plastic turned brown on one of the four pins.bought new resistor and connector from gm dealer and self-installed.blower now works on lowest and highest settings only.called gm hq.they said take it to dealer; no recall or service bulletin out yet.seems to be a pretty common failure based on web searches.i'm saving receipts in hopes gm issues a recall before someone has an electrical fire.i do have pictures of my failed components i can email to you if you want and i have links to the online information i found related to this issue.the actual failure date was probably several months ago, it has been working intermittently on lower settings; it finally stopped all together on lower three settings at the end of november and it was dec 5th when i bought a new resistor and connector.

Wiring for turnsignals melts down. There is a wire harness with a connector at the turn front signals, the wire gauge is in adeqaute and causea excessive heat build-up this causes the wires and connectors to the front turn signals to melt down and the turn signals become inoperable. I have replaced these components twice due to thia issue.the resistor pack for air conditioning blower fan speed control melts and catches fire. I have replaced this part twice and ultimately have bypassed the resistor pack leaving the ac blower with only the choice of high speed or off.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. The contact was driving 35 mph when the vehicle stalled. The anti-theft warning light illuminated prior to the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer twice. The manufacturer was contacted but the vehicle was not repaired. The vin was unavailable. The failure and current mileages were 89,000.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to restart the vehicle which resumed normally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the ignition switch was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 12,300 and the current mileage was 112,000.remailed 06/23/14. *lj updated 07/15/14 maupdated 07/17/2014

Blower motor fan speeds work intermittently.fault was found in blower motor wiring harness where harness runs adjacent to glove box.jostle the harness manually below the glove box and the blower motor speeds will go from off to only a few speeds to normal.this could definitely be a fire hazard.

While driving at any speed or sitting idle reduce power light comes on and vehicle slows down. This is very dangerous and frustrating. I've been to three dealers, and the dealer is there to deal in other words make money even if they don't fix the problems. Not to mention trying there best to get you to trade your problem car in and buy a new car.

Multi cylinder compression failure

I have a 2005 chevy colorado standard cab 2.8 liter after 3 years i noticed engine internal noise start it up now it sounds like a diesel a lot of stuff is knocking around inside the motor i heard it was some type of recall on that but i'm not sure i do remember i had problems with throttle body have been replaced twice after this replacement from a certified technician that's when the problem of reduced power failure emitting from my dash could not go over 40 miles an hour check engine light would come on so i was told to disconnect battery for about an hour to let computer reboot and the problem would go away just for a little while when the motor is cold there's no noise it sounds like it's new but when it heats up that's when all the noises begin i always change my oil out every 3000 miles or 3 months i used castles 70,000 mi plus because i have 110000 mi on the vehicle i don't know if anyone who's had the same problem as far as the knocking in the motor but i do know that people have had problems with their throttle bodies malfunctioning and causing the truck to run rough and slow and sluggish now i don't drive it very far because i'm afraid that power reduction light will come on in my dash therefore i can't go over 40 miles an hour which i've mentioned this before all i can say is after this with the throttle body motor has been giving me problems vehicle was in motion

The cam actuator first failed at 57,000 miles in 2009. It now has failed again at 94,000 miles in march 2013,the cost to repair this is approx $900.00 each time. I can get milage from my tires at a lower cost.this is an item that should not a normal maintenance item.this truck has been a lemon from day one.

In february 2015 my check engine light came on.after several repairs with my local mechanic he was unable to find the problem.i went to greenwood chevrolet in hubbard, oh, and they reset my computer.however, before i got out of the auto lot, the check engine light reappeared.i returned to the service department and they then diagnosed a bad cylinder head and valves.the service manager reported this has been a problem with this particular engine and my online research revealed that chevrolet recognized this problem and extended the warranty coverage to 7 years and 100,000 miles. My vehicle only had 87335 miles, but had been in service for 9 years, 7 months.i felt chevrolet should have covered my repairs under the 100,000 miles extension even though i was over the 7 years.my reasoning is that chevrolet was aware of this problem with this particular engine as evidenced by chevrolet's service bulletin #07123a.i contacted the president and ceo of general motors and provided them with all my service records to offer proof of maintenance during my ownership.i heard nothing from them.i am filing this complaint because i felt gm should have covered the repairs because of the mileage of my vehicle and the care i had done to it.it cost me over $2000 to have this vehicle repaired.

Motorcompression,

There are several forum online each pretty much expressing the same problem.at the 100,000 mile mark the check engine light comes one indicating the #2 coil is bad.this doesn't seem to be the problem nor is it in the injectors.it seems with the online forums that are out there indicates there was a problem with the head on the 2005 colorado but chevrolet or gm is not investigating or talking about it.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. The contact stated the vehicle was leaking oil. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who replaced a valve cover rocker and gasket hose. The dealer confirmed that there was excessive oil consumption in the engine. The manufacturer was contacted, but the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 45,000 and the current mileage was 60,000.

Dt*:the contact stated while traveling at various speeds the vehicle stalled.the vehicle was taken to the dealer however the problem could not be duplicated. Updated 05/10/06.

Faulty cam actuator solenoid causes loss of power and rough idling. Common to 2005-2006 chevy colorado/gmc canyons. This fault also releases debris into the engine that causes potential for further damage.occurred at 70k miles on my vehicle without prior warning and all regularly scheduled maintenance has been performed. Replacement of the solenoid and an oil change is necessary to correct the issue (that gm is aware of since they've redesigned the solenoid since this edition).

The sales person promissed mea lot of things and now they do not want to fix the truck . I am having a lot of engineproblems with this truck and i wouldlike to give it back to the dealer.

Engine idle speed.when decelerating to stop, the engine idles so low that it quits and has to be restarted.

Check engine light came on in 90 day old vehicle - chevrolet was fully aware of the problem when i took it to the dealer and fixed it. I had to pull over on the expressway to read my owners manual to determine if i could proceed - very dangerous. Chevrolet should be made to fix all colorados before someone gets killed on the highway.

I have had problems with my truck and the check engine light, when serviced i found that it was the cylinder head that needed to be replaced. The service department at the chevy dealer said that it is a known and common occurrence in the 2005 5 cylinder colorado. After doing research i found that many others had the same problem, some saying that ever 15000 miles they have had to replace the cylinder head, and one guy explained changing it for the 3rd time within the 2 years that he has owned his colorado.

Colorado, 5-cylinder engine problems, stalling and rough idling. Stalls and runs poorly. Why has dealer not issued recall for all of these for cylinder head work? dealer wants me to pay for it.

As my 2005 colorado reached approximately49,000 miles i noticed that it became more difficult to start and didn't run as smoothly as it had previously.a couple of weeks later, after the check engine light came on i had the truck serviced, and was told that the cylinder head and related components needed to be replaced at a cost of $3500 to $4000.like many others, i have now learned that thiswas a common occurrence . And even worse, it seemedthat it may be a recurring problem.i was told by the dealer that although gm has issued a technical service advisory and theywere very aware of the problem chevrolet will not issue a recall or take care of the problem when it occurred.

I was driving and my truck was shaking and spitting and sputtering and wasn't wanting to run right. When it was idling it was choppy the check engine light came on it was almost like the truck was possessed.i got to my friend's house and i checked to make sure that it was getting enough voltage from the battery like maybe the cables were loose but they weren't. I cranked the truck back up and it wasn't shaking and going crazy but when it ideals it doesn't sound right/isn't like it should be.

Heater fan quit working on 1 2 and 3.but sometimes would come back on, when on 1 2 or 3.and when it was on you could smell plastic burning.and when checked the into it found the plug on the wiring harness that plugged into the resister on the fan was loose and causing the wires to melt.this loose plug was loose from the factory, no way could have got too small over the years.new plug and new resister placed concern if fire results could cause death injuries, garage fire or house fire if vehicle placed in garage at night.

My sister has a 2005 chevy colorado she bought new.the cam sensor keeps going out on it.my brother-in-law is recovering from stage 4 cancer and this is their only vehicle and it needs to be fixed and at no cost to them.the part is poorly designed in regards to the condensation that builds up.some people don't have garages or car ports and if the sensor gets wet it burns out.i will never buy a chevy product, they don't stand behind their vehicles.

Poor gas mileage, rough idling. Poor gas delivery and bad electrical switch, engine light stays on,had engine analyzed come s up with numerous error codes, problems are on going......

Ac blower fan works in high only. Upon checking the wiring i notices the resistor and the wire harness were burnt which caused the problem. I replaced the wire harness and resistor which fixed the problem. Upon further searching i found many others with the same problem and some that ended up in fires under the dash.

2005 chevy colorado with around 84,000 miles (blown engine)!!! broken piston connecting rod; putting two holes on each side of the cylinder with the piston rod sticking completely through the opposite side of the cylinder. Oil and smoke that came from the vehicle could have caused a terrible accident, especially if there had been a motorcycle behind me. Replaced engine myself due to gm doing nothing. Filed a case with them and it was denied.

Attempted o to start vehicle and it will not start.took vehicle to dealer 5 times, and could not find anything wrong with it.waited about 10-15 minutes then will start.no matter what thetemperature was outside had the same problem.

I own a 2005 chevy colorado. It has only 86,000 miles and the head and intake valves and cylinders need to be replaced. I did some research and many people are complaining of the same thing from 2004-2005 models. The total cost for me to fix this is 1,600. Gm knows they messed up with the 2004-2005 inlive 5 engines, that why in 2006 they had different intake valves installed. My dealer said that gm told them to fix the valves and seals and springs, but that is not helping the status. So then they were told to replace the head which cost around $800. Could some one please help me with this? i don't see how a company can noticed they did something wrong but not help to fix the problem. I have also heard several stories that the intake manifold cracks on some trucks, who has ever heard of that? i asked 2 people who have worked on cars for over 30 years, they have never heard of that happening. Please advise...........

Car has 93,000 miles.vehicle would shut off while at a stop light occasionally.recently, about 2 months ago the truck would not start.took me about 20 minutes of cranking until it did.it ran fine, i took it to chevy dealer grand prize chevrolet here in miami and they changed the fuel pump.in 3 weeks after the fuel pump was changed the car has left me stranded 3 additional times.i just took off again and told them the fuel pump change did not help, it left me stranded 3 times, same problem, car does not start, after about 5 to 10 minutes of cranking it starts as of nothing happened.they can't figure out what the problem is. I am frustrated that one pays 20,000 plus for a car that does not function properly and the chevy mechanics can't fix. This is not right.

I purchased a new 2005 chevy colorado in november, 2004. I did my first oil change at about 500 miles. My second oil change was done about 2,000 miles. At that time i noticed oil dripping from the rear portion of the engine. I pulled off a rubber cover on the bottom of the transmission and noticed drips coming from the rear main seal area.i called the deal and they told me to bring it in, which i did. A couple of days later i received call telling me the rear main seal was leaking and they would need to replace it, saying it was a factory assembly error. About 2 weeks later i changed the oil again at about 3,500 miles and noticed oil leaking again from the same area. I called the dealer again and was told doubtful it is the seal again, but to bring it in. Again i got a call saying the seal was in fact leaking again and they would again need to replace it. Now a few weeks later, i went to change the oil at about 4,800 miles on it ( i do change my oil frequently) and sure enough, there was oil dripping from the same area. This time i called the dealer and they said they need to contact chevy technical support for possible answerss. I still have an oil leak at the rear main seal...

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado.the contact stated that his vehicle has failed emissions twice.in addition, the driver side front door makes a loud cracking noise when opening and closing.the dealer will inspect the vehicle on august 3, 2007 in regards to the emissions.the current mileage was 56,000 and failure mileage was 38,000.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. The vehicle failed to accelerate and stalled when the accelerator pedal was depressed. In addition, the check engine light illuminated. The vehicle was able to restart. The dealer diagnosed that the intake manifold valve needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 67,000.

Fan motor on climate control on an 05 chevrolet colorado. Problem has occurred 2 times and general motors will not assist with the problem.

Own a 2005 chevrolet colorado and am having repeated events with the abs warning light.the light came on recently and then disappeared; followed by returning again yesterday along with brake light warning.this is a safety issue for anyone owning and driving one of these.after investigating other complaints with this issue it looks like gm needs to step up and do a recall.

I would like to report a recurring 'stuck throttle' problem i have experienced with my 2005 chevrolet colorado ls crew cab z71 4x4 with a 3.5 liter i5 engine and automatic transmission.on 6/28/06 while slowing and turning into a parking spot, my engine raced to full throttle.i nearly crashed into the car in front of me, but was barely able to apply enough brake pressure while turning off the key.the dealership towed it in, could not find any problems, and blamed the floormats.on 8/28/06, while stopped at a traffic light, i felt my truck lurching and observed the tachometer at about 1300 rpm. I checked to see that my foot and floormats weren't touching the throttle in any way.i shifted into neutral, where the rpms jumped to 3,000, and back to drive where they dropped down to the normal 700 rpm idle speed.i carefully drove to a different dealership.their paperwork indicates that no engine fault codes were found, the throttle control module was responding properly to commands, and there was a software update available for idle control problems -- which they installed.for the next year and a half, i did not experience any other instances of this problem.then, on 3/3/08 the engine suddenly raced again while parking.on 3/31/08, i was slowing in a straight line at a traffic light and experienced the throttle racing up on its own.i was able to force the truck to a complete stop, shifted into neutral, and the revs dropped back to normal idle.i am writing to nhtsa to report the problem, inquire if others have experienced similar issues, and ask for direction on my next course of action.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado.while driving approximately 20 mph on normal road conditions, the air conditioner system was activated; however, without warning it failed to operate normally. The driver observed underneath the front passenger dashboard that the air conditioner wiring melted. The vehicle has not been repaired. The contact is aware of thesafety risk involved. The failure and current mileages were 48,000.

Dt:the consumer stated the vehicle has push buttons to change to 4-wheel drive. Without warning the vehicle changed from 2-wheel drive to 4-wheel drive without touching the controls. The dealer changed the computer and said they could not find the cause of theproblem. Caller said loaner vehicle did the same thing.manufacturer said they could not find thecause of the problem either.had vehicle7 times at dealerfor this problem.the air condition was not cooling properly, therefore the dealer replaced the ac condenser.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado.on three separate occasions, the brake lights failed to illuminate when the brake pedal was depressed.the brake switch was replaced twice and currently needs to be replaced again.the current mileage was 44,000 and failure mileage was 16,000. Phone interview update (10/2/2008): mr. Hernandez said that he replaced the brake lamp switch three times. He bought the vehicle used and he did not receive a recall notice from gm for brake lamp switch. After each failure, he bought a replacement switch from a gm dealer and did the repair himself. Mr. Hernandez said that the first failure occurred in 2006, the second in 8/08, and the most recentfailure occurred in 9/15/08.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. The contact was traveling 50 mph when the brakes were depressed and the brake lights failed to illuminate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The dealer confirmed that the brakelight switch needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 181,244 and the current mileage was 181,258.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. While driving approximately 20 mph, the contact approached a stop sign and immediately engaged the brake pedal. A driver in another vehicle alerted the contact that the rear brake lights were inoperative. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the brake light switch was replaced under the service warranty. In 2009, the failure recurred and the vehicle was repaired under a recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 09v310000 (exterior lighting:brake lights:switch). The remedy repair was insufficient and most recently, the failure recurred for a third time. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 2,000.

Currently i own a 2005 chevrolet colorado crew cab 4wd purchased in october 2004.the colorado was a new body style for chevrolet in 2005 and replaced the chevy s-10 pick-up.approximately 1 year ago, i began noticing condensation inside my front headlamp assemblies.moss began accumulating and the moisture inside has began to affect the projection capability of my headlamps.the headlamp assemblies are constructed of all plastic parts.it is unfortunate, to say the least, that i will have to spend several hundred dollars to replace my headlamp system after the truck is only 4 years old.for individuals who do not pay attention to this, it may become a safety hazard.my vehicle has never been wrecked from the front and has all original manufactures equipment.the seals are failing on my headlamps system.

As per nhtsa campaign id number: 06v139000 and nhtsa campaign id number: 09v310000 brake lamp switch assembly was replaced. Since replacement (approx. 10,000 miles) brake lights and cruise malfunctioned. This left driver without operable brake lights. Driver was not involved in an accident. However, safety was compromised. Manufacturer refused to replace brake lamp assembly at cost, because the safety recall was already performed once.

The relay for the brake lights under the dash has failed 4 times on my chevy colorado.the last two failures occurred after the part was replaced with the supposedly redesigned part from the recall.when this happens the brake lights fail to operate and no indication is given to the driver.

My cruise control stopped working and then my break lights. Put in new break bulbs and they still do not work! i was dri ing when cruise control went out and my husband noticed my breaks while i was driving.

Brake lights intermittently didnot work.i personally checked the bulbs and they were operative.i checked the brake light switch and noted that the plunger remained "in" although the brake pedal was depressed.i had to push on the plunger several times to get the plunger to push out.the brake lights then worked when the pedal was depressed.i took the vehicle to ferman chevrolet, tampa fl, after discovering the recall notice on the nhtsa site on 09/17/08.i was informed that this recall (pe05065) had been performed on this vehicle in the past.i had the part replaced and kept the replaced part which is available to you.the part is labeled with the number 257963816318b.this is a definite safety hazard and may indicate the "fix" that gm did in this case may need to be fixed again. This was on a 2005 chevrolet colorado 5 cylinder. Email update (10/2/2008): my daughter was stopped several times by law enforcement and told that the brake lights were not working.i personally checked the lights and they were not illuminating when the brake pedal was depressed. When i reached up to check the switch with the brake pedal depressed i noted that there were plungers that were not extending when the brake pedal was depressed.i then pushed on the plungers with my fingertips and was able to dislodge the plunger and low and behold the brake lights started working when the brake pedal was depressed.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado.in december of 2006, the vehicle was repaired according to nhtsa campaign id number 06v139000 (exterior lighting:brake lights:switch).most recently, the contact noticed that the cruise control did not turn off after several attempts.on october 31, 2008, he was informed by another motorist that the brake lights also were not working.the vehicle has not been taken to the dealer.the manufacturer stated that they did not repair vehicles for the same recall more than once.the current mileage was 40,008 and failure mileage was 39,990.

I looked up my vin and have had an active recall since 2006

At different times turn signals, brights, brake lights will quit working and dash light indicator that air bag is not working will illuminate. This can happen while driving or when first starting up. At times you can push stalk up for a right hand turn and left turn signal indicator will light up and blink. If you push the stalk down for a left turn signal nothing will happen.

The brake and taillights quit and i cant figure out why. I replaced the bulbs.

Complete failure of all brake lights due to brake light switch. Was warned by another motorist following a near collision. I noticed several weeks prior to incident that the cruise control failed to engage. Dealership that performed the repairs stated that my vin number was not included in the recall.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. The contact stated that she was made aware that the brake lights were inoperable while driving 30 mph. The brake lights were serviced in august 2012 under nhtsa campaign id number 09v310000 (exterior lighting).the vehicle was not been repaired.the manufacturer was not notified. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.

Left turn signal indicator on when headlights are on.activation of left turn signal causes both front turn lights to blink, and all fourrear tail/turn lights to blink.this might be due to turn signal switch, or multifunction switch failure.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. The contact stated that when the brake pedal was depressed, the contact observed that the brake lamps did not illuminate. The failure recurred continuously. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vehicle was already repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 09v310000 (exterior lighting). The approximate failure mileage was 164,000.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. The passenger observed that the driver and passenger side rear brake lights were inoperable. The vehicle has not been repaired. The vehicle was previously repaired per nhtsa campaign id06v139000 (exterior lighting:brake lights;switch); however, the the recall remedy was insufficient and failed to address the defect. The contact has concerns of the significant safety hazard. The failure and current mileages were unavailable.

I have a complete failure of my brake lights on my 2005 chevrolet colorado.i have checked the fuse box...everything is ok.i have had the truck a total of 8 months.

1- the cruise control stopped working.drove the vehicle several day without it working.2- scheduled it into joe johnson chevrolet aug. 18th.repair person reported to me that the brake lights were also not working.so i was driving the vehicle around for several days without brake lights ( very unsafe ).3- the repair shop replaced stop lamp switch.4- next day i spoke with my father who also has the same vehicle.i told him what had happened with my vehicle.he said his cruise control had not been working for a while.we check his brake lights and they are not working.5-obviously this is a huge safety issue that needs to be investigated.

2005 chevrolet colorado- cruise control stopped working.- my son has the same vehicle as me and had the same problem.he said the service person at dealership told him his brake lights were out as well.- we checked my brake lights and they were not working as well.- there were no lights on the dash to indicate the brake lights were out.

All brake lights failed, they are no longer working.

-the contact took vehicle to dealerfor recall 06030 repairs.the contact made an appointment ,and when she went to the dealer, the part had not come in. Thedealer told her he would call her when the part arrived, which should have been within seven days. The recalled partwas the brake lamp switch.the vehicle currently has25,000.the contact did not know if the brake light was presently functioning correctly.

-the contact has a 2005 chevrolet colorado that he took into adealership to replace the brake light switch which had failed.two weeks after repair was done the contact received a recall notice ( nhtsa campaign id number : 06v139000 ) concerning the brake lights switch.therefore contact called manufacturer to getreimbursement and the manufacture stated it would take 2 weeks in order for contact to received reimbursement form.the contact called back on 01/11/07 since he never received thereimbursement form and they stated it would take another 4 weeks because the system that sends the reimbursement form wasn't working during the holidays.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign id number: 09v310000 (exterior lighting: brake lights: switch) in july, 2010. The contact stated the dealer refused to repair the vehicle under the recall. The dealer advised that the vehicle was not in need of the recall remedy. The manufacturer was contacted and confirmed that the recall repairs would only be performed if the vehicle was in need of the repair. The contact had not experienced a failure. The current mileage was 31,000.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. The contact was driving approximately 35 mph and approaching a stop when he was advised that the rear brake lights were inoperable. In addition, the cruise control failed during activation. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis. The technician informed the contact that the failure was contributed to the brake light switch. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available.the failure mileage was 98,000.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. The contactstated his vehicle had previously been serviced for the recallassociated with nhtsa campaign id number: 06v139000 (exteriorlighting: brake lights: switch). The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. The contact stated that he received recall nhtsa campaign id number 06v139000exterior lighting, brake lights switch. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to have the recall performed. The contact noticed that the brake light switch, thebrakes lights and turn signals also failed. The dealer stated that nhtsa campaign id number 09v310000 exterior lighting, and the brake lamp switchmay not work as designed due to contamination in the switch. The part was on back order and the dealer refused to repair the brake lights. The failure mileage was 77000. The current mileage was 89842.

My brake light switch failed. No telling how many days i was driving around like this. I don't use cruise control so i didn't notice anything wrong like other people mentioned. West side chevrolet in katy, tx did the repairs. Not sure of the exact date though. The bad thing is that i drive in stop and go traffic to and from work. There was no way for me to know they were not working other than someone on the highway yelling at me that my brake lights are not working! how am i to tell in the future that they are not working? maybe next time i will get rear ended???:-0.

Dt*: the contact stated the brake light switch failed suddenly without warning.there was a nhtsa recall # 06v139000, regarding the exterior lighting; brake lights switch. The manufacturer appeared to be unaware of the recall and informed the contact to notify the dealership who also was not aware of this recall.

I was driving and someone told me that my brake lights were not working, i got home and checked all the bulbs and fuses, they were all ok. Then searching in the internet at a chevy colorado site, i found out that there is a problem with the brake light switch.i had notice that the cruise control has not been working for at least 3 months, i had taken the truck in for a check up since, but i see that they failed to notice that the brake lights are not working.

As per nhtsa campaign id number: 06v139000 and nhtsa campaign id number: 09v310000 brake lamp switch assembly was replaced. The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. The contact stated that in 2005 his vehicle was repaired according to recall# 06v139000 (exterior lighting:brake lights:switch). After the repair he experienced a permanent loss of brake lamp function. Failure to warn others of the driver's intentionscould lead to a vehicle crash. He notified the dealer again in reference to recall # 09v310000, and was advised that because his vin number was excluded from the vin range, he was ineligible for a free remedy.he is in the process of repairing the vehicle.the failure mileage was unknown. The current mileage was 70,000.

Re: nhtsa action number : pe05065brake light switch was replaced on my 2005 chevy colorado after i reported, to the dealership, that none of the brake lights worked and the cruise control would not activate.

I was driving home on a busy highway after work when someone pulled up next to me and said my brake lights weren't working.i brought it to the dealership, and they said that there was a faulty brake lamp switch, so they replaced it, and fixed the problem.in addition, my abs light repeatedly came on for no apparent reason.luckily there were no accidents from this failure.

I have owned my 2005 colorado since march 2005.since then, my brake light switch has failed 8 times, the last occurring august 2007.even after having repairs done per the recall, the brake light switch failed only 3 months after.i have made my complaint known to gm as to the dangers of my vehicle and they do not want to do anything to help.it is a shame that someone will get hurt and/or killed due to this safety hazard.email update (10/7/08): i will retrieve all invoices i can find and fax to you.also, the brake light switch has failed on 2 more occasions since i filed this latest complaint.it is constant every 2-6 months.i usually find out that the brakes are out by another driver alerting me. On one occasion i actually got hit from behind at a stop light.luckily, we were moving less than 10mph and no significant damage, or injury occurred.i really believe i am driving a dangerous vehicle, especially with my 2 year old in the back seat.someone, at some point will get seriously hurt...thanks again for your research and work on this matter...

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 30 mph on a rural road, the contact smelled gas and noticed there were flames between the cab and the bed.the fire department was called and determined the fire originated underneath the cab of the vehicle where the fuel filter was located.the vehicle was towed to the dealership where the dealership contacted the manufacturer.the manufacturer sent an independent inspector to inspect the vehicle and determined the problem was a defective fuel filter.

Purchased new 2005 colorado.terrible gas mileage.took into dealer and was told to allow engine time to break in. Also, the dealer also mentioned by accident that they have had several complaints about this.the truck now has 3000 miles and still getting 12 mile per gallon. I was also told to try different gas stations fuels.still nothing has changed.i do not have a heavy foot nor do i have the cash needed to keep filling my tank.

This vehicle got 25 mile to the gallon on the road and 20 in town but since the pcm went out it gets about 18 on the road and 13 in town. They hook it up to a computer and it says everything is fine but that doesn't explain the poor fuel performance and chevy will not do anything to correct since the computer says it runs fine.

I have the same complaint as #10244065.my 05 colorado at times will not start i'll try it over and over, after about 20 minutes. It will start and run as if there were no problem.i have had the fuel pump and fuel vilter changed. No help.now it is happening at least twice a week.no one seems to have an answer.*tw

Leaking fuel line. Woke up this a.m. Found puddle of fuel in my driveway. After further inspection the ele. Line for rear tail lights has been rubbing against nylon part of fuel line. I used two zip ties to secure ele. Line out the way,to prevent this damage in the future. Sent chevy e-mail but no response, my chevy dealer agreed that this shows poor quality control and poor customer service. I believe chevy should reimburse my for the cost of repair!

I started tp smell gas in my garage and thought maybe i just overfilled the tank but as the days went on the smell increased.about 2 weeks later, the check engine light went on and i took the car to my mechanic .he told me the fuel tank was ruptured on the top where the metal coupling met the plastic.i was very surprised because i never saw any gas on my garage floor.then i realized that i not only could have had a fire in my car but also in my garage which is attached to my house.the mechanic said that the problem was the plastic fuel tank but i don't care what type of material it was i only know i could have easily killed both myself and my wife.i have the $2,000 repair bill from the mechanic as evidence but not the fuel tank.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the fuel tank straps fractured and caused the fuel tank to drop abnormally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the fuel tank, filler neck, fuel lines and fuel tank straps needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vin was not available. The failure and current mileage was 85,000.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. The contact attempted to lock the vehicle using the keyless remote when the anti-theft alarm began sounding abnormally. He was able to enter the vehicle and when starting, the alarm ceased. He then attempted to manually lock the front driver door but to no avail. He stated that the failure would recur whenever he would attempt to operate the front drivers side door.the vehicle was not taken for examination or repaired.the failure and current mileage was 45,000.

The handlewasset into the door.when the handle was lifted to exit the door, the door lock button was barely grazed which engaged the door locks.the ownerhad several spare keys made but was concerned if involved in a panic situation.the door lock buttons were too close to door handle.the owner was informed that there were other chevroletmodels with same design.the door locked up over 20 times, 7 times from the inside and the remainder as the consumer opened the door.the passenger door had no outside entry and or no key entry. *sc

I bought a colorado in july of 2006 and really love the truck, but i have had a problem with the rear door not latching on the passenger side of the truck and also the seals around both sides of the doors on the truck. I have taken the truck to todd wenzel in hudsonville, mi at least 4 different times and once to kool chevrolet in grand rapids and they have never been able to fix the problem. This is my first gm vehicle i have bought brand new and probably my last because of the customer service i have received from the dealer ship in hudsonville and with the vpac. I have been trying to get this problem fixed since i have bought the truck and no one wants to help me. They never return calls or emails. When i go there they tell me there is nothing they can do about it and basically i have to live with it. I have been even in contact with one of your national vpac and he could not get my problem resolved with the dealer ship fixing the problem. The only next step is to claim the lemon law here in michigan, which i really do not want to do. I like everything else about this truck, but if the problem is not resolved i am going to be forced into claiming this lemon law. If someone could please help me get this problem resolved asap that would be gratefully appreciated.thank you

2005 colorado pickup can not be unlocked from theoutside on the passenger side, consumer feels this can be a safety issue.

Cannot open the right door on my 2005 regular cab chevrolet colorado from the outside. The only way to open the right door is to first open the driver's door, than lay across the front seat, reach around the baby car seat and manually push open the door lock! in case of an emergency where the driver's door cannot be opened in an accident, frozen lock, etc. There would be no way for emergency crews to open the right door!

Upon delivery of my vehicle, when i got home i noticed that there was no keyhole on the passenger side of my truck.i do not have keyless entry.i consider this a safety issue for a number of reasons (e.g., a possible assailant near the driver side door), not to mention having to wait until the person who parked six inches off my driver door moved, because i couldn't get in the passenger side.what really irks me, though (along with the ny attorney general's office), is the fact that gm shows a picture of the passenger side of my truck, a 2005chevy colorado, on the first page of their brochure, right through the middle of 2006, with a keyhole in the passenger door handle.when i contacted them, they said they were not responsible for mid-year equipment changes that differ from the brochure.however, i found that there were no 2005 models produced with passenger side keyholes.the attorney general's office says that is misrepresentation.i have not yet pursued that avenue.thanks for your attention.

2005 chevy colorado, emergency brake cable is hanging 3 inches, below the frame rail, a clearance of 11 inches. I caught a piece of rebar steel sticking up from a cattle quard on a dirt road, and my vehicles slammed to a stop, throwing me out of the drivers seat, and against the door on the passenger side, dislocating my shoulder, a putting my vehicle in the ditch, with damage, to the wind=deflector, fog lamp, dent in bumper. My phd. Major is in construction equipment engineering, this routing of the emergency brake cable, in such a manner is an extremely poor design, a bad idea, and consistent with the use of intern level engineers that gm uses on lower priced production vehicles. I want my routing redesigned, and repaired, so that this does not happen again, just march your fat [xxx] out and take a look, at one of your colorado's for yourself, and you will see the emergency brake cable hanging down, below the frame rails, and measure the clearance for yourself, unloaded vehicles 11 in. Loaded vehicle 7 in. Tell me the name of the engineer, who is so [xxx] stupid. So, i know who's [xxx] to kick.

Emergency brake hangs down below

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. The contact stated that the parking brake would not disengaged after it was released. The emergency brake cable froze the emergency brake unit during the cold weather. The contact had to manually release the emergency brake.the contact took the vehicle to a dealer who stated that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle.the contact did not repair the emergency brake cable. The contact stated that this wasa manufacturers defect that could cause a crash.the failure mileage was 54,000.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado.on july 5, 2006, while applying the brakes, the vehicle began grinding, stalling, and driving as if it were towing heavy equipment.the contact stated that the grinding has worsened over time and an indicator illuminated stating that the parking brake was in use, when it was not.at 33,000 miles, the engine temporarily seized.after a diagnosis was performed, the contact was informed that the passenger side rear cable was frozen, the rear brakes were glazed and squealing, the passenger side rear drum was egg-shaped and blue, the passenger side rear brake cable needed to be replaced, and the front cable was stuck.the passenger side rear brake drums and parking brake actuator were replaced and the rear brakes were adjusted.the contact stated that the failures have recurred.the speed was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 57,000.

Rubber brake lines going to rear of vehicle is run and connected to bottom of frame with slack in line hanging down.this is an off road vehicle and if it was not it still does not make common sense.ntsb and epa should have interest in this matter. This is a chevrolet colorado and to my knowledge all are like this.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. While driving approximately 40 mph, the contact noticed smoke emitting from the rear end of the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the contact's home. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that the transmission line had detached from the transmission fitting, causing the transmission fluid to leak. The contact replaced the fitting and a clip in order to attach the transmission line back to the transmission. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 124,000.

On or around march 21, i was driving my 05 colorado to work. When i almost arrived i noticed that my truck was driving very forceful and jumpy. When i got back into my truck, it was having trouble starting, but eventually did. That night i was driving home and when i got about 2 miles from my house a message came up on my dashboard that said power failure and it stalled out. The next day, it started ok enough for me to take it to a nearby chevy dealership. They told me that it was the solenoid valve and the camshaft position actuator was replaced. It drove fine until a few weeks later on april 11th when my truck would not start at all. I had to be towed to the same dealership, where they found that the ignition switch needed to be replaced. I was without my truck for 4 days.

Input housing shaft splines in torque converter was worn out after 44,000 miles, was replaced and was worn out again at 79,000 miles. After 35,000 mile, i believe this is a manufacturer defect or they are using a metal that should not be used for tension.

The initial condition that caused concern: hard shifting.to move the shifter between any two positions required higher than normal force.this condition alleviated instantly after approximately one month.the force required to move the shifter became normal again.no sounds or other unusual things were observed.the only differences from before the condition until the current condition is the transmission will not go into park, and will only start in neutral.current condition: the truck will not shift into park.when attempting to put the vehicle into park, the shifter will move enough to allow removal of the key, however, the transmission will not engage park.because of this, the vehicle is always free to roll. The only way to keep the vehicle from moving while attempting to park is to use the emergency brake.this vehicle is currently both highly inconvenient to drive and highly unsafe. Items: - i have found blogs referencing this issue back to 2004.i know this experience is not unique to this vehicle.- i have found an article that says a recall was issued in 2011 for exactly this issue: http://trucks.about.com/od/carsafety/a/gm-recalling-colorado-and-canyon-trucks.htm but i cannot find any documentation for this item on your website.please provide feedback on what i am missing.- this serious safety issue appears clearly to be a manufacturers defect.can you facilitate discussion with the oem to fix this issue promptly at the manufacturers cost.

Four wheel drive will not engage. The lights on the dash just flash and eventually return to 2hi. Nothing works - shifting to neutral, slow roll, dead stop. Nothing.i cycle the 4wd once a week. Worked last week and not this week. Last time 4wd was actually used was in january 2009.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. The contact stated while driving 40 mph, the vehicle hesitated whenever the accelerator pedal was depressed. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with the chassis needing to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure and referred the contact to a local dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 169,000.

Two times the front differential locked into 4x4 by itself. The truck appeared to slip into neutral and engage into 4x4.the 2 h light was on, not 4 hi. I stopped, pushed 4hi, heard actuator engage, pushed 2hi and 4hi disengaged. This is a serious shock to the whole front running gear, universal s, ring and pinion, and transmission.

I have had the vehicle into the dealer 7 times because it suddenly and on its own shifts into 4h from 2h.once, this happened at 45 mph and the vehicle's sudden shifting into 4 wheel drive threw me onto a rocky shoulder.dealer repeatedly says he cannot do anything about it,because chevrolet doesn't know what to do about it.incidents are becoming more frequent.computers have been reprogrammed, which does not solve the problem.latest incident delineated below.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. The contactstated that the vehicle hesitated while attempting to reverse. She applied extreme pressure to the accelerator before the vehicle would engage. In addition, the vehicle would independently switch to low four wheel drive gear while the vehicle was in motion at various speeds. This would cause the rear driver's side wheel to feel as if it was dragging and the steering wheel would become extremely tight. The manufacturer advised there were no similar complaints to the contact's and did not provide any assistance. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. A diagnostic test was performed but did not generate any failure codes. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were approximately 27,000.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 65 mph, the vehicle shifted from 2 wheel drive to 4 wheel drive low on its own.the vehicle had an automatic transmission and due to the gear shift, the vehicle broke down on three separate occasions.the service dealer could not duplicate the problem. Updated 01/19/07.

While driving down the road at approximately 35mph i struck a piece of road debris ( approx 6" piece of a muffler).the debris must have hit the connection between the gear shifter and the transmission and the vehicle automatically down shifted to 2nd gear from drive.the piece that broke was a plastic conection device that connected the cables of the gear shifter to the levers of the transmission.what concerns me is two issues:the tow truck driver said stated that he sees this all the time on chevy's and had i been driving faster (highway speeds) and the vehicle did such a sudden down shift there could have been a serious acciident.my final comment/question, why would such an important component be placed in such a vulnerable position and why would is be made of plastic and not shielded in some manner.

2005 colorado ls 4x4on making left turns truck has sraping /popping noise that gets worse the longer you drive.also at dead stop when standing on either side of truck bed pushing the truck siode to side by hand a bad popping noise comes from the left rear wheel, taking to dealer 3-21-05.

2005 colorado pickup w/ sport suspension (zq8) erratic ride height in rear of vehicle causes rear axle misalignment. In the rear, one side of vehicle sits closer to the ground than the opposite side causing rear axle to protrude from wheel well on higher side of vehicle, this causes wheel alignment problems (a dog/crab walking condition) where rear axle steers/leads vehicle , i.e. Left rear ride height is lower than right rear ride height and axle is shiftedso as right rear wheel protrudes from wheel well of vehicle causing dog/crab walking condition-front wheels are not followed in line by rear wheels t. It appears a simple correction of the ride height by replacement of rear springs/shocks may correct the problem, adjusting rear of vehicle to level ride height is required for proper wheel alignment. Dog walking condition is not caused by crooked bed alignment as per dealer/technician. Dog walking condition causes property damage to wheel when turning into curve with rear leading side of vehicle near curb and can cause pedestrian injury if dog walking vehicle jumps curb due to the dog tracking condition during turning.

Purchased new 2005 colorado lscrew4x4 in november 2005. I have noticed lately that whenbackingup or drivingforward at an angle over a curb or on a slight grade heard a knocking/popping sound from the rear axle. If you take the side of the bed and force it side to side you can hear this knocking/popping soun severly. I called community cherovelt in burbank, and was told by service department this was normal sound. It does not make sense that this severe of a sound is normal. I called another dealer, and was told to bring it in to check it. I have yet to do this.

Rear drive shaft broke off at universal joint while traveling 60 mph. I purchased my vehicle on 5/31/05

2005 chevrolet colorado i4 engine 5 speed manual transmission. Cannot engage reverse 70% of the time. I understand others have experienced the problem but chevrolet has a tsb (#611) saying condition is normal. I believe this is a safety issue if reverse cannot be engaged. Problem has not been resolved.

There are 2 major safety problems associated with my manual transmission.1. When cold, it is pretty much impossible to downshift into 1st or 2nd gear unless i come to almost a complete stop. What this means is i cannot get into these gears to speed up quickly if i need to avoid an accident. Chevrolet said this is normal!2. It is difficult to shift into reverse some times. Chevrolet even has a bulletin, but they said this is normal as well! what if i need to go in reverse real quick to avoid an accident or a train?

Manual transmission has grinding noise when shifting into 1st, 2nd, or 3rd gears.

2005 chevrolet colorado 4 wdshifts into 4wd low all by itself.

During normal driving my truck will shift into 4wd-high.i cannot determine if it occurs at highway speeds or low speeds (<30 mph), i only notice it when i go to turn.the occurance is intermitten since i bought the truck new in september 2005.it has almost cause me to have a head-on collision with an oncoming car and a building because the turning radius is affected when it shifts into 4 wd.since the truck has push butten control to change to 4 wd, for several months i thought i bumped or pushed the button by accident, but that is not the case.i have been to the dealer 4 times, the 4wd control head has been changed (fault indicated), transfer case control modulehas been changed (internal fault indicated), all electical wire harnesses to the transfer case module-control head were checked for shorts.problem not identified or solved and gm service told dealer to quit trying different things since the problem could not be identified.the vehicial is still under new car warrantry. In another drive train issue that may or may not be related to the automatic shifting into 4wd is a complete rebuild of the automatic transmission at 4200 miles. The transmission had to be rebuilt because no new transmission was available in n. Dakota.i have had no other problems with this truck.

Lumbar support knob has broken three times and replaced by the dealer.however, when the knob breaks, sharp pieces are created and have sharp edges.the part is not readily available and will be unprotected until part is replaced.i have been scratched several times while exiting the vehicle.at least one time, deep enough to draw some blood.

The consumer noticed that the rear seat head rests were too tall and blocked his vision while backing up his driveway. The headrest are not adjustable because they are built in as a part of the seat.the manufacturer was contacted but the consumer felt that they didn't provide a reasonable solution to the problem.

The abs brakes fault will occur on occasions. This has been happening for over a month.it appears out of no where. The brakes became soft and noisy.i can pull over and shut the truck off, wait a few minutes then restart and the problem self corrects. This is happening more often now. I am getting a little scared this may happen when i need the brakes.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. The contact stated that the abs warning light flashed intermittently. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, who replaced all of the brake sensors on four occasions but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the front passenger side sensor needed to be replaced. The technician did not disclose any further information. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.

The abs is a constant issue on this model. If it fails while driving, which it has for me as well as a lot of others, it is hard to stop the truck. While you try to push the brake pedal the abs is active and fights against you making it hard to stop in time. This is an issue gm is aware of and should be forced to do a recall before there is a serious injury or fatality.

The abs light comes on at very low speeds.the abs activates when driving on dry roads.when braking, the pedal vibrates and pushes back on my foot, while making a springing noise.i have come close to crashing numerous times because of the abs activating and the lack of braking when the abs activates.the cost of the repair is upward of $1000 per wheel and the code is indicating both front wheels.i was told by a mechanic that the issue is common, but gm refuses to issue recall.i have read hundreds of complaints online of other owners having the same issue.

The cruise control stopped working. I paid little attention to this as it did not impair the operation of my truck. Little did i know that my brake lights were not working either. This was due to a brake lamp switch failure. A recall was issued by chevrolet in 2006, and my vehicle was repaired. In 2010 my cruise control went out again. I knew from the first time that this was a severe safety issue and checked my brake lights. They were not working. It was the very same problem. The brake lamp switch had went bad again. I contacted chevrolet and they refused to pay for the repair, siting "normal wear and tear". The local dealer did pay half of the repair as a courtesy. Now, in 2012 the brake lamp switch has went out again and my local dealer is talking with chevrolet to try and get them to pay for the repair. We will see if they stand behind their product and treat a loyal customer right.

The abs and parking brake signal comes onthe dash and will remain on for 2 to 3 days. The brakes also lock up and make a horrible sound. I'm not able to push the brake peddle down because itgets harder to push and it agitates. I have owned my colorado for 6 years and it happens quite frequently. This concerns me because my 16 year old daughter drives my truck often.

This truck has a recurring problem where the rear brakes freeze into position when the emergency (parking) brake is applied. Has been happening for 10 years since i bought the truck new. If the emergency brake is set, the rear brakes will not release when the lever is released by the driver. I am stuck where i parked with a set of frozen rear brakes. In order to get home i am forced to drive with the rear brakes engaged causing a severe overheating condition in the rear wheels and potential for a brake fire near the gas tank.gm said there was not a problem and refused to fix this problem under warranty. It is still a problem and gm still refuses to fix this prolem even though there are thousands of drivers with this "freezing rear brakes" issue. My work around? i don't use the parking brake. I have a stick shift and the engine compression alone will not hold the truck in place on a sloped driveway, so i have to carry a block of wood to place behind the wheels as my "parking brake". Gm needs to recall chevy colorado trucks for this systemic failure in the rear brake systems.

On multiple occasions, the abs fault light comes on.this is just one of many problems focused around the brakes. Abs fault light is still on, my brake pedal action is soft. Brakes have been replaced. The right front outer brake pad was stuck and wore down to the metal. All the other front brake pads had good wear on them except for the front outer pad. Something isnot right with the brake system on these trucks. I've checked a number of web sites and this brake problem is occurring with many trucks and many owners in many stated. I've even read the same complaints posted through the nhtsa .for the same brake problemsplease do something before someone is killed.

My truck started grinding everytime i used the brakes and the brakes would not stop you.i took it to a gm dealer ([xxx]).the hooked it up to a computer and it showed both abs sensors were bad in the front hubs.they said it would be around &1200 to fix them since it will take up to 8 hours for the type of sensor inside the hub.i feel this is a safety issue since you are unable to stop, and there are lots of other people on edmunds.com complaining to gm about the exact same problem with the chevy colorado.please take a look at all the complaints.thanks!information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Upon starting the vehicle and driving at low speeds the abs starts grinding for about five minutes, after five minutes the brakes stop and an abs fault appears disengaging the abs system. The system restarts after the car is restarted and then the same issue will occur. Sometime when the truck needs to make a quick stop this will begin to activate the fault issue. Some times the issue is serious enough to engage a total failure of the system and the parking brake light will also come on.

Rear brakes "freeze" after the emergency brake is released. Have to drive several days with the rear brakes shoes applying friction to the rear drums. This has been a problem since i purchased the truck new in 2004.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado.the contact stated that the vehicle would not come to a complete stop once the brake pedal was depressed.the failure persisted even when the brake pedal was depressed to the floorboard.the vehicle was taken to a mechanic, who stated that there was a possible failure in the abs and brake pump.the vehicle was not repaired.the manufacturer was not notified.the failure mileage was 175,000...updated 08/11/14 the consumer stated antilock brakes were not operational and that sunroof leaked. Updated 08/19/2014

Rear brakes noise sometimes lock up.

Abs fault- locked up brakes- common problem with this vehicle- need a recall but knowing gm we will never see one (until someone dies) .... This is crazy the electrical problems with this vehicle and the lack of response from the federal government or gm.

Abs brake light onpedal pulsates.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. While driving various speeds, the air bag indicator illuminated and the brakes were difficult to engage. The failure has occurred for the past three weeks. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was unknown.

Pulled into parking lot and went to stop and the abs system came on. Dry roads at 5mph.

Display says abs fault.the abs pulses when applying the brake.

Abs braking system not working and locking up brakes.

2005 chevy colorado abs brakes .absfault light comes on and brakes start pulse then get hand to push down on an the truck is hard to stop very fast. There seem to be a lot of chevy colorados and gmc canyons that have this going on in years 2004 through 2007 this is a veryserious problem and some one is going to get killed if it has not already happened . Gm needs to recall allthese pickupand fix them . Also the wheel hub that the abs sensor connects to also has to be replace . It dos not matter what the miles are 1 to 100,00 miles on the autoit happens andthis needs fixed now.

Was driving out of my parking lot earlier this summer, when the abs started kicking on by itself. With or without the brake pedal on the abs was still going.after a few days of this i was getting a little worried about the safety of driving this thing and unplugged an abs sensor.it was getting to be a daily thing, every time i drove the truck the abs would kick on at random times.still have yet to properly fix the sensors.

Abs fault problem 2005 chevy colorado.

Brake lights are not working when the brakes are engaged.

Brake problems, grinding, pedal to floor, rubbing and grinding noise, squealing, had accidents 2 6 08 and 2/15/08 rear end collisions due to brake seizing up , non stoppage while coming to a rolling stop. Also, the parking brake line hangs below the frame, when i asked dealer if this is a problem, they stated no. My parking brake sometimes does not hold or engage.

Abs fault light comes on.the abs sensor seems to malfunction causing the abs brakes to pulsate and then fault.this is a known problem on the edmonds forum, but the manufacture has not been any help.i have had both rotors and theabs sensors replaced twice.the error does not occur all the time.to stop the error, you must pull over, turn the car off and restart the car.the vehicle has had the problem for the last 15,000 miles.i have been told that this is not a safety problem.i have seen reports on the edmonds site of the back brakes freezing and causing accidents.however, it has been reported the chevorlet does not believe it is a big enough problem for a recall.i think that given their is a bulletin board with many chevorlet colorado owners looking for help that shows it is a problem.

2005 chevrolet colorado 4dr crew cab 2wd .33,000 miles.abs errors, trac errors and brake errors for no apparent reason. Today all three errors at same time, one after the other. Happened after driving down street to child's school and back, never going over 25 mph.trac grinds first, and then abs engages at low speeds thus far.known problem for other colorado owners on edmunds.com site.chevrolet needs to recall these trucks before someone is hurt.also heat sensors only allow heat and air to work on high.this happened around the same time we had the initial abs problem during summer of 2010, although the first time we received no errors for abs and were clueless as it is intermittent.

Vehicle for no apparent reason will engage abs where brakes will pulsate and a temporary reduction in brakes will occur. This will occur when there is no rain, streets are dry and sunny. Immediately after this occurrence the abs fault light will come on and stay on until car is stopped, turned off, and restarted. Took vehicle in to gm dealership and they said brakes were fine. When abs engages, for no apparent reason, one will feel brake pedal pulsating and a loss of braking which causes some immediate alarm for fear of running into somebody or possibly allowing car to go too far into an intersection when trying to stop. Many web sites, forums and blogs, such as edmonds are loaded with these complaints on 2004 - 2006 colorado's, as this is not just a single occurrence in a couple of vehicles. Contacted chevrolet but they always point me to dealership for them to read computer code for error at a cost of $100 and then will price out the cost for repair. This is a safety hazard that gm is very aware of and selects not to address.

Abs alarms at various times, which disables the abs system. There is a technical service bulletin for this problem. So far no recall. The left front wheel is the source of this problem. It appears that chevy colorados have this condition.

Abs fault warning and brake light came on. Dealer fixed left side wheel assembly and sensor for $600 . Later same thing happened. Brake light and abs fault warning stay on constantly. Brakes failed once momentarily without warning. This has happened once, but could happen again at anytime.

I own a 2005 chevy colarado i am having problems with my e.h.c.u eletro hdy. Control unit, it comes on every 1 to 3 days only when i am making a left or right turn. I've had a a.b.s test done by advance auto parts for free and the test shows problem with motor malfunction/ right front antilock brake system channel in pulses too long/ loss of class 2 communication with body control module driver informationmodule.

2005chevy colorado abs brakesnot working right. When on dry pavement the abs brakes come on and it is hard to stop the truckchevycolorado owners have had a lot of trouble with the abs brakes on these trucks and someone is going to diebecause of these abs brakesome day chevy needs to fix this problem soon .there should be a recall made on allcolorado and canon this brake problem is not cheap for owners to fix help!

2005 chevy coloradobrake locks up on front driver side leading to hard left pull on vehicle trajectory and severe over heating and smoke emitting from wheel well. I have been forced numerous times to pull over to allow the wheel to cool down so it doesn't start a fire. Usually after a cool down the brake system responds for a while. I have had the chevrolet dealer repair the brakes and was charged for the service. Chevrolet doesn't consider this a warranty issue and will do nothing about it even though there have been many complaints abouttheirbrake systems on the colorado. I have owned the vehicle since2005 and have had continual problems with the brake system and the abs failure warning lights and audible alerts. I recently had the brakes inspected and cleaned and new pads installed by monroe and was informed that this is common problem with this type of chevrolet abs braking systems.

I have had numerous braking problems sine the third year of ownership. Abs lightand stopping problems to many to mention! was told by dealership after $500.00 that calipers were frozen from rust! also i have been getting abs failures also. Please have gm make this dangerous situation right. Does someone need to die before action is taken?

Own a 2005 chevrolet colorado and am having repeated events with the abs warning light.the light came on recently and then disappeared; followed by returning again yesterday along with brake light warning.this is a safety issue for anyone owning and driving one of these.after investigating other complaints with this issue it looks like gm needs to step up and do a recall.

Abs fault light stays on. Brakes don't work well. Researching this problem it appears that there are many 2005 chevrolet colorados with similar issues. I no longer feel safe driving my truck. Gm should be held accountable for this.

After re-lining rear brakes they lock up and grab afterabout 1000 miles.relining has been done two times by repair shop, same conditions after noted mileage.brakes are even worse when it rains or during high humidity conditions.lock up and/or grabbing tends to cause temporary loss of control on wet surfaces.repair shop has inquired to manufacturer regarding this condition, manufacturer is aware that this condition exists, but states that they have not issued any tsb's or recalls.i spoke with several other owners of the same make and model, they too are experiencing the same conditions.incidents with this problem have been prevalent for about 6 months.

Problem with my chevy colorado. There is a grinding sound every time i brake. It even does it when i go five miles an hour. It does it every time that i take a turn in the streets even if i do not use the brakes. This fault in the abs system worries me a lot, because i think it's a serious safety issue.

I have a 2005 chevy colorado 2wd. I have a abs problem, the abs fault comes on while driving down the road. Checked codes getting c0035 c0040 c0220. I found bad wheel hub on left side. Replaced hub and abs sensor. Still had problem checked codes again, told me the right side abs sensor bad. I had replaced hub and sensor on the right side. The problem still there, spoke with a gm rep. Told me there was nothing they could for me except bring it in and check the problem. I am a ase certified mechanic so i do all my own work. With this problem i have abs stops while driving on dry normal surface roads at low speeds the truck will dart across the road and not stop until you pump the brakes . The problem has been happening everyday for a month. I have 75,550 miles on the truck, when i first bought the truck it only did it when the roads where wet.not sure what to doabout the issue except gm needs to recall and repair the issue. I have over $650.00 tied up in the brake system on this truck only because i do my own work, if i went to the dealer who knows what it would cost me.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. While driving 40 mph he attempted to slow down while making a slight turn and the brakes locked as soon as they were engaged. Due to the locking of the brakes the contact was forced to crash into a ditch when the brakes locked; however, he was not injured. The contact has experienced the same failure on 5 different occasions. The vehicle had been diagnosed by the dealer. The current and failure mileages were 33000.updated 11/17/09the air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was totaled.

Intermittent abs failure.causes brakes to apply unevenly and sometimes without warning.problem comes and goes.

Dt*:the contact stated while braking at various speeds in the rain, the brake pedal has to be pumped to stop the vehicle.the dealership sent a service man to the contact's residence, who determined the brakes are locked.the vehicle has not been inspected at the dealership.

Abs fault light constantly comes on/goes off, and it is apparent that the system is failing.

Dt*:the contact stated after the vehicle had 2,000 miles the brakes began to grab and would not stop at the intended stopping point.the vehicle has been to the dealership multiple times, the rear drums, cylinder pistons, pads, and shoes have been replaced, but the problem persists.the manufacturer suggested the vehicle be taken back to the dealership for further repairs.

My 2005 colorado brakes will lock up when cold.especially after some moisture.this is very annoying and a safety concern since, i have gooten close to gettijng rear-ended when they lock up. This problem seems to invalidate my abs.the truck started doing it at about 30,000 miles.i have had the brakes checked, and they are fine.my 1993 s-10 did the same exact thing.i eventually got rid of the s-10, but now i have the very same problem with this colorado.as far as i am concerned this is a very serious safety issue. Help.helop.help.help.

The abs light comes on and off frequently. I brought to dealership and was told that its because the hub bearing and wheel sensors are rubbing against abs light wire to cause it to turn on. And there is a bulletin for this problem but not recall so i have to pay for it. Not my problem that gm knows of problem with hub bearing rubbing my abs light wire. When abs light is on my abs brakes do not work. This cant be safe the abs coming on and off as you drive. Needs to be recalled. The bulletin number is #pit3460n abs light on with ebcm dtcs c0035 c0040 c0220 and or c0221. Abs and or brake light may illuminate at times.

I own a 2005 chevy colarado i am having problems with my e.h.c.u eletro hdy. Control unit, it comes on every 1 to 3 days only when i am making a left or right turn. I've had a abs test done by advance auto parts for free and the test shows problem with motor malfunction/ right front antilock brake system channel in pulses too long/ loss of class 2 communication with body control module driver informationmodule.

This failure started without cause nor warning.abs problem.when truck starts and is driven on dry pavement, the first or second time the brake pedal is pressed, the abs will engage, limiting my braking ability.a minute later "abs fault" will appear on my dash. The brakes will work fine for the rest of my drive, except no abs will be available.this event can happen several times daily, but usually during the first morning start.nothing has been done yet, still researching.

I have a z71 crew cab 4x4 model.the abs system engages at low speed on dry pavement with zero wheel slippage.this is usually followed by the abs failure light illuminating.the system resets when the vehicle is turned off and the problem recurs the next day in an endless cycle.there are numerous complaints of exactly the same problem on several web forums.abs brakes have been around a long time and other manufacturers do not have the recurring problems that have been experienced with this vehicle.the time is long past to makechevy do a recall.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. The contact started the vehicle and the abs and brake warning indicators were illuminated. The contact proceeded to drive approximately 15 mph when the brake pedal was applied with a delayed response. The brake pedal also extended to the floorboard. After engaging the brakes numerous times, the vehicle came to a stop yet the warning lights remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to diagnose or duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired and the failure persisted. The failure mileage was 140,000.

Abs warning light will come on in dry weather and abs will engage diminishing braking. This is a known problem with chevrolet and gmc 2004 - 2006 colorado and canyons. Gmc will refuse to do anything about it. My personal case is that they told me that they closed my complaint until i spend $100. To have diagnostics run for the error codes. All one has to do is go to edmunds.com and look at the hundreds of complaints out there for this very problem, or any other vehicle forum for that matter. Even the error codes are shown. I finally relinquished and took vehicle to dealer to have codes read. Just like the forums state the error codes came back, c0035, left front sensor and c00220, left front in release too long. Sensor and new hub is estimated by dealer to be $762.00!!!!dealer also stated gm is aware of this problem and it is due to poor/flawed design. My vehicle, even though it is a 2005, is in showroom condition. I severely baby this truck, even to the point i paint the undercarriage 3 - 4 time a year.this is a true safety hazard and will cause an accident due to the abs engaging unexpectedly in completely dry weather and the brake pedal begins to thump and braking is severely reduced.

Excessive wear rear brakes, and glazed front rotor and pads.

I have a 2005 colorado crew cab 4x4.on several different occasions the brake pedal had to be pumped to stop the vehicle.on wet roads it is like driving in the snow, it will slide in what ever direction you are traveling.i took it to the chevrolet dealer and they had to replace the right hub and right sensor and put on new brake pads and shoes and it cost me $1,181.80 and i still have no idea what caused the problem.when the brakes work they are very good but when they don't work it presents a big problem for me and my family.the brakes have always squeaked since the first day i drove it off the dealers lot and they are still squeaking today.i would take it back and have it looked at again, but i can't afford it !!!!!!!

I own a 2005 chevy colarado i am having problems with my e.h.c.u eletro hdy. Control unit, it comes on every 1 to 3 days only when i am making a left or right turn. Before this happens too somebody else i would like to report -it.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado.the contact noticed that the front driver side anti lock brake sensor was faulty, causing the abs system to deactivate.the dealer advised the contact that the failure was not covered under warranty and offered no further assistance.the manufacturer was not notified of the failure.no repairs were performed.the current mileage was 46,000.the approximate failure mileage was 30,000.the vin was unavailable.updated 10/07/2011 *ln

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. The contact stated that while having the oil changed by an authorized dealer, he was informed that all of the brake fluid needed to be replaced. The contact was also informed that the failure was due to brake line corrosion. The failure recurred once. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 62,000.

Abs braking system. When it is sandy, wet, slippery out i go to apply my brakes it makesa errnnoise and the truck does not stop for 8-10 ft after that i have been in 3minorfender benders. I have broughtthis to the dealer 3 times to look at it and they tell me that this is how it works(not stopping ? ) is there a place i can go to get this checked out.

Purchased 2005 colorado with 33,000 vehicle may 2008. Less than a year later the abs light came on with the abs light flashing on dic. There are other complaints on file with nhtsa about this very same problem but still no recall, some resulting in crashes. Spoke with chevrolet yesterday but they are not willing to do anything about it. I guess there has to be more crashes or some deaths to get a recall on this dangerous situation! there is now 49,000 miles on it.

Noticed after driving on freeway for a while that small vibration in steering wheel occurred with low cabin rumble.first time the vibration was enough to make me think i had a tire coming apart. What was actually happening is my front brakes had applied themselves slightly and were getting very hot.upon braking steering wheel shook back and forth very hard.has been going on since vehicle was new.is 13 months old now.dealer has replaced master cylinder, power brake booster, both rotors, brake shoes.has made no difference, everytime i drive any distance on the freeway the brakes get very hot.i cannot hold my hand on either front wheel but a few seconds.rotors steam and hiss if i squirt water on them.is currently in the dealer the fourth time and they don't know what is going on.i get lots of black powder on my wheels after driving on freeway 60 miles.

Dt*: the contact stated the brakes felt soft, and there was a metal-on-metal squealing while braking normally.the vehicle was taken to a service dealer and the brakes were replaced 17 times.the dealer determined there was premature wear on brakes.the most recent time the vehicle was repaired, the brakes were worn after 2 weeks.the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the wear.

Front left abs sensor on a 2005 cheverolet colorado. The truck only has 88,000 miles on it and the abs fault signal comes on everytime i drive causing my brakes to become stiff which stops them from working causing me to almost hit someone everytime i go to a red light or stop sign.

I am stationed overseas in england and road get very slippery. There are dealerships over here, but they don't mess with american trucks. Everytime i get going, my abs keeps faulting out and there is no error code popping up, but yet my brakes keep going out and i am wondering what's going to happen when all the brakes go out and i can't stop or even injure someone else or even worse my kids.

I own a 2005 chevy colarado i am having problems with my e.h.c.u eletro hydro.. Control unit, it comes on every 1 to 3 days only when i am making a left or right turn. Contact states:stepped on brakes and they failed, never slowed down ,and crashed into another vehicle.speed was approximately 30-35 mph in stop and go traffic.this was the first incident of this sort with the vehicle.it had extensive damage to front end with no repairs, is currently in shop awaiting an inspection from gmc within the next 14 days.

Brakes lock and grind when the truck is stopped at slow speeds. Steering wheel turns somewhat to one side when this happens. Happens mostly in wet weather but also happens in dry weather. Have taken it to the chevrolet dealership numerous times and they say nothing is wrong.

The brakes (with abs) lock up, mostly when it's wet out, but will also do it when dry. The dealer replaced the abs computer, and has made adjustments, but it still does it.

Rattling noise that appears to be coming from the bed or the frame.noise is mostly heard in cooler temps/lightly heard when temp reach above 85 degrees//when putting foot on brake; it feels like the brake has some resistance and truck doesn't want to stop.

The braking system in colorado try to stop and the brakes grab and seem to let go and grab again to stop speed about 30 to 35mph there is problem with the brakes i hit someone.

2005 chevrolet colorado truck has been experiencing the same problems as the gm trucks recalled for brake defects. The brakes on the consumers vehicle grab, lock up and grind.

A.b.s. Failure at 450 miles.

When we would start the truck in the morning the abs fault light would come on and when you pushed on the brake it felt like the rotors were warped then the brakes would lock up. In slick conditions the truck would lose control.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. The contact stated that the abs brake sensor for the front wheels failed intermittently; the brakes made a grinding noise when the failure occurred. The contact turned the vehicle off and restarted it; the light would turn off for a few days. The dealer replaced a part (name of the part was not given) in 2008 and august 2010. The failure mileage was approximately 18,000 and the current mileage was approximately 26,000. Updated 01/31/11updated 02/03/11

When installing new brake pads i noticed the drivers side slider bolt hangs up and was actually frozen. Bought a new pin and wheel bracket. This unit was still too tight and had to ream it alittle to get it to function properly.

16000 miles on vehicle rotors are warped and dealership will not replace. Brake pads are in excellent condition hardly no ware. Dealer wants to turn and i feel not a good sign with a vehicle that only has 16000 miles. The warranty is 36k miles bumper to bumper, dealer states only 12k miles allowed on rotors. Vehicle has hesitation when brakes are being applied.

Front rotors has gouges at approimately . 28000 miles.dealer turned rotors.why weretherotors getting gouged? turning them didnot solve theproblem.one time rear brakes locked. Dealer fixed them. Rear brakes rubb ed all times when stopping. Dealer turned thedrums. On 6/28/07 rear brakes locke d again. Dealer statedvechicle in 4h, may be a switch, to keep an eye on it if it happenedagain they will replace. All thistook place in approximately one month period. As of yet problemwa snot corrected. Note: owner did not put vehicle in 4h.

Back brakes were gone. Replaced on this day.on june 19 2005 brakes were leaking fluid, cylinder was gone and entire back brakes was replaced. July 2005 back brakes were gone again, replaced again. October 2005 both back and front brakes were gone and replaced again. Jan. 16th 2006 back brakes are gone again.

On october 18th in the morning i was driving by chevrolet colorado 2005, and the brake fluid light came on during driving.within minutes, i lost all ability to break.the vehicle had around 50k miles on it at the time.upon inspection at the nearest place of repair, my entire right rear break drum (the piston) had burst and leaked all of the fluid from the break lines into the drum.the resulting metal fragments had ground into the drum and caused massive failure of the entire system.this all resulted in my being unable to brake while driving, and i almost wrecked the vehicle into another vehicle at 50 miles per hour.i had to roll my vehicle into a nearby shop and have it fixed.there is no way this should have happened.i am a mechanic and failures like this at such low miles are unheard of.chevrolet didn't even have the parts (at any dealership in sc) to deal with the repair, and the gentleman at the dealership couldn't believe it had happened because they haven't even replaced any brake pads for these vehicles yet.please help.thank you, [xxx].information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Front brakes showed wear at 7000 miles oil change, parts had to be special ordered , told to drive vehicle til they arrived,, on 1/4/2005 part installed and mechanic test drove, and rear drum drum brakes failed,(pistons "blew out" of cylinders)i have never seen a brake system that was designed so if the shoes wore outand "scored" the drums the pistons would leave the cylinders ,, causing the loss of brake fluid and even with antilock braking system , cause very poor braking, (think if this happened at high speed on an expressway,, with a family in the vehicle),.,.suddenly no rear brakes,,,,,,,,and in my opionon,, just a couple of milimeters more length on the cylinders and pistion could solve the problem,.. But chevy although replacing the parts , says it was due to wear. (i am a us postal rural carrier) i say it is a design fault, mine just happened sooner , and maybe in time to save some lives if they "fix" the problem.

Dt:the contact stated the brake pedal and accelerator pedal are too close together.when he movesfoot from the accelerator pedal to the brake pedal the soul of his shoe hangs on the brake pedal. There is not enough room between the two pedals. The manufacturer stated the vehicle is designed for someone with smaller feet.the brake pedal has a curved arm and this needs to be moved about one inch.this happens 25 to 50 percent of the time.updated 11/29/05.

Applied brakes at stop sign, brake pedal went to floor, truck failed to stop, truck went out onto busy state route, had to throw truck into reverse, in order to prevent hitting another car. Sure glad our son who just got his permit decided not to drive.had towed to local dealership for inspection, they said the right front brake hose had burst, truck only has 10,446 miles on it.

The power steering rack in this vehicle has failed 3 times in a little over 2 years and over a period of less than 6k miles.each time, the steering suffers severe grinding noise, severe lack of performance and eventually fails.the 3 failures have occurred over less than 6k miles (this vehicle currently onlyhas 63k miles in total).i consider this to be a safety hazard across the original and gm certified replacement parts which havebeen provided and installed at a gm dealership service department.note: this vehicle was purchased as 'new' off showroom floor in 2006.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. The contact stated that when turning left or right, the rear end of the vehicle would swerve out of control. The vehicle was taken to two independent dealers for inspection. The dealers inspected the vehicle and were unable to duplicate the failure. The tires were replaced as a precaution however, the failure was not corrected. The vehicle was not repaired.the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 101,000. The vin was not available.

I have had several problems with my steering and power steering pump. I have had the intermediate steering column replaced twice and the power steering pump replaced once. There was a loud popping when i turned and a squealing also. The popping is gone for now but the squealing is still there, the dealership said that was normal. Also i had to have the body mounts tightened because they were loose. My truck has only 17k on it, i had to have my truck at the dealership 4 times within 4 months. Currently there are no problems except the squealing.

I have a 2005 chevrolet colorado 4x4 truck. I was getting over in left hand lane to avoid a truck and trailer that had stopped about 4 car lengths ahead of me when the front passenger tire snapped off the spindle and sent the truck down into the road. The hole tire snapped off and flew by the window taking the mirror and door handle with it. The tire was not flat and still had lugnuts fully locked on it when i picked it up off the other side of the road. My auto body guy said it looked like the metal , spindle, and axel just broke in half .

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. The contact stated that the power steering fluid was leaking. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who noticed that the frame was corroded through and was fractured between the bed and cab. The vehicle was repaired. The contact called spritzer chevrolet amherst (200 n leavitt rd, amherst, oh 44001, (440) 703-6350) and was referred to the manufacturer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. The failure mileage was approximately 91,000.

Frame is rotted through, and now unable to pass inspection.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. The contact stated that the cowl panel failed and caused a water leak inside the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to a glass specialist for a diagnostic test and was advised that there was a defect in the design. The glass specialist sealed the leaking seam. The failure mileage was 11,200.

Driving on expressway at 65 mph. Truck seemed to lock up parking brake and began to swerve. Car behind me tried to avoid hitting me and swerved into other lane, barely missing a collision himself. Nursed truck home. Took to my mechanic and explained what happened. In the parking lot of service center he crawled under to check parking brake cable and immediately noticed my frame had broken on both sides! this truck, seriously, is in show room condition. Mechanic checked rocker panels, fenders, under bed and floorboards and said there is no rust anywhere except on your frame. I baby this truck as i am 71, retired, on pension and social security and vet. This car is washed at least once a week and in the winter it gets washed twice a week. It has been waxed eleven time in the past year, august of 2017 thru september of 2018. Manufactures recommended services are all up to date or even exceeded. Internet shows this as a complaint with many 2004 - 2006 colorado having rusted out frames and gmc is not willing to do anything about it. They should learn from toyota how they took care of their customers with rusted out frames. This is a serious safety hazard. When these frames break as min did it slows down quickly and will swerve. I think the slow down is caused probably with the twisting of the body or the bed and possible strain on the differential or axle. Just a guess. Luckily, the car behind me was able to swerve out of my way, but just about hit a person in the lane he swerved into.this truck is garage kept and i only average about 4000 to 5,000 mile a year. And seriously this truck looks like it came off the show room floor.

Paint on front bumper is bubbling. It will probably need to be repainted. My guess is the bumper was not primed properly before painting.

There is an undiscovered leak that is coming through the right side of the vehicle, which is soaking up the seat belt and seat due to corrosion. This could prevent the seat belt or seat fromworkingand providing proper safety to the passenger.manufacturer has been contacted by consumer.

My vehicle failedstate inspection due to excessive rust resulting in holes in the frame cross member.the rust and holes compromised the vehicle so badly that it could have easily broken apart and cause catastrophic loss of control.i think that the frames for some colorado were manufactured with steel that was not up to specification, more precisely the steels chemical content was incorrect.this caused the frame to deteriorate to the point of catastrophic failure. From what i gleaned from the internet model years 2004 ,2005, and 2006 were affected by this defect.

Air bag light comes on making it unclear if occupants are protected or if air bag will just go off on its own. Problem is wires in back door jamb become fatigued and break causing failure of air bags. Vehicle is also considered an inspection failure as well in massachusetts.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado.several days after purchasing the vehicle the contact noticed that there was no option available to insert the key on the passenger door.in case of an emergency, the contact stated this is a safety risk.the current mileage was 16,900. Updated 04/05/07

Dt*:the contact stated while taking the vehicle through a car wash, the roof of the vehicle collapsed.the vehicle was inspected by the insurance agency who determined the structure was very weak.a local repairman inspected the vehicle and recommended adding bracing to the roof area.the dealer also inspected the vehicle and determined the roof may have collapsed because of previous damage caused by a baseball that hit the roof. The vehicle has four doors.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado. While driving 5 mph and making a left turn, there was an abnormal bumping noise coming from the steering wheel. The contact coasted the vehicle into a parking lot and noticed that the front driver's side tire was leaning out. The contact removed the tire and noticed the entire frame was corroded through the front driver and passenger sides. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 141,000. The vin was not available.

Dt:the contact stated while driving at various speeds the vehicle vibrated.in an attempt to correct the problem the dealer replaced and balanced the tires several times with no success.the dealer has determined the vehicle performs as designed.updated 7/25/2006 -

Takata recallmy frame rails are rotted thur making truck not driveable, dealer also agreededand sent papers to gm, in witch they said they would do nothing, i lost a truck with only 89.000 miles and no body rot witch i had planed on keeping for years to come

I'm on disability, hard of hearing, and bad spine,,,but i boughtthis truck at fieldmans in lansing mich,,the dealer or carfax did not mention that the frame was rusted and broke on driver side rear leafspings,,now what do i do

Dt*:the contact stated that while the vehicle was being serviced, the private repair shop mechanic determined that the insides of both front tires were worn down to the cords.the mechanic determined that the wear was due to improper alignment.

Had vehicle on lift for safety inspection found the frame of the vehicle rotted out behind the cab near the left leaf spring mount. The spring mount has since collapsed into the frame making the vehicle inoperable and a safety hazard. No parts are available from the manufacturer to repair. There are many documented instances of a problem with these frames rotting out in the same area or worse.

Bad vibration at highway speeds of 47-65,tires were balanced, aligned and replaced. Vibration still very noticeable but dealer says its normal. Still waiting for a call back from gm engineers.

Dt*:the contact stated the front end wobbled at any speed.the vehicle was taken to the dealership and it was determined the vehicle needed new tires and the front end should be aligned. Updated 9/13/2006 -the consumer also noticed that the inside of the front tires were bald.the dealer made corrections based on a service bulletin and replaced the front tires at no charge.

All four tires have worn and cupped from being on front at different times as i rotate them. Align done regularly but still cupping. Dealer says there is nothing wrong with front suspension/alignment. I don't agree but can't prove. 2005 colorado pickup.

1. Improper front end alignment, repaired at dealer under warranty.2. Five flat tires, resulting from puncture and improper wheel/tire seal-repaired free by local tire dealers.

Took vehicle to dealership for excessive wear of inside of the front tires. Since vehicle was at 13000 miles the factory warranty was no longer covered for any repair. Dealership was not going to cover anything. They were going to charge a $40 fee just to evaluate the problem. Since the front end was out of alignment the fee was waived and was charged $59.95 for the alignment. Took vehicle to a tire store and paid for a new set of tires for a total repair of over $200. Research shows that this is a common problem but manufacturer denies any problem. Complaint was filed with manufacturer same day.

I had been noticing mild vibration at highway speeds and mild pull during braking. I accidentally discovered i had severe inside edge tire wear after only 30,000 miles on the vehicle. I went online and found a tsb relating to the tire wear. I brought this to the attention of my dealer, who replaced the front tires and adjusted the "z" height of the front suspension. 5,000 miles later, i again found severe inside edge wear on my front tires, which the dealership claimed was due to a misalignment which they adjusted. Recent inspection of my tires again showed continued, severe, inside tire wear, at 46000 miles. Obviously, the dealership and manufacturer have not acted strongly enough to correct the problem. Had i not accidentally discovered the tire wear when i did, i might of had a front end blowout at highway speeds

Abnormal tire wear and suspension noises on chevrolet colorado 4 x4 2005 model. With less that 20,000 miles both front tires were worn into the steel belts. I replace both tire and had the front end aligned by a local tire store. 5000 miles later the insides were wearing again. This time i took the truck to the local chevrolet dealer in anderson,sc. I had several items to be addressed before my original warranty expired. One of these items was the front end assemby- squeaks and rattles plus the tire wear. The local dealer kept my truck overnight and reported that i probably neededto get the front-end aligned and i would have to pay for this service because the original tires were not on the truck. The original tires were not on the truck because they were worn out. I had visited my car stats.com to read problems associated with 2005 colorado. One complaint number 10156778 told of a gm service bulletin concerning torsion bar setup on the colorado. I asked the chevrolet dealer to check service bulletin 1686447.they reset the entire front end. I will not know whether or not this fixed the situation untilenough miles have been placed on the truck to check for wear. I really appreciate the " mycarstats.com "website. Without this information my local dealer would have done nothing to fix this problem.

I took my 2005 chevrolet colorado (purchased in late june 2005) in for a pennsylvania required vehicle inspection.the inspection station refused to inspect the vehicle due to tire ware and improper front alignment.i made an appointment at the dealership to check the problem and vehicle inspection.the dealer informed me my vehicle had to many miles on it for thewarranty to cover it. I have not had the vehicle for a year yet and the alignment is already out and tires are worn.looking at you site i can see problems with these vehicles for the front end alignment.the dealer rotated my tires and inspected my vehicle.he informed me that i should as soon as possible have the vehicle in for an alignment.

Excessive front tire wear on inside edge of tire - both tire.my problem with the front end on my 2005 4x4according to the gm, the cause: 4wd models z-height trim incorrect, result is toe out. This mentions in gm reference: id # 1686447 or # 04-03-07-004b july 22, 2005it's not an alignment problem, it's the torsion bar. The bars are not adjusted correctly in the factory. These trucks were coming out of the factory screwed up. Tsb's address this problem by adjusting the z-height (torsion bar adjustment)

I have a 2005 chevrolet colorado z71 4x4 crew cab.i've had the truck since the end of february and now have the tire vibration problem.i've had it to the dealership 4 times for this problem and it hasn't been fixed yet.they've rotated and balanced the original tires, they've replaced the tires with new general tires, and still now it has a bad vibration problem that is worse now.the dealership can't seem to get it fixed.

Dt contact stated the front tires wore out. This was the third set of tires on the vehicle. He contacted the dealer, they stated it was due to the poor quality tires.the tireswere serviced on a regular basis. When the tires wore out to a certain point onefeltvibration in the steering wheel.

I have a 2005 chevy colorado and i cannot get the spare tire to release from under the vehicle. I have followed all manufacturer instructions and several other people have tried to remove the spare as well.this is absolutely ridiculous as i live in a cold climate and could be in an emergency situation and unable to change a flat tire because the spare will not release.definitely poor engineering.

2005 chevy colorado rt. Front brake sensor going bad due to rust. This seems to be a design issue.

I'm on disability, hard of hearing, and bad spine,,,but i boughtthis truck at fieldmans in lansing mich,,the dealer or carfax did not mention that the frame was rusted and broke on driver side rear leafspings,,now what do i do

Both the right and left side frame rails are seriously deteriorated with large amounts of the steel missing. The remaining frame is heavily rusted. The front of the truck bed is beginning to sink due to the missing frame steel. There is a real possibility of catastrophic failure of the frame which will result in loss of control of the vehicle.

I've tried to have a garage repair/fix my heater/fan motor three times to no avail. Heater works on high only...and not on any other speeds.

Truck frame failure at the weld point of the rear leaf spring (front frame mount), due to corrosion.

My truck has stopped while driving.everything seems to shut down and i have no control of the vehicle.then the check engine symbol comes on.after a minute or two, it starts but does the same thing again.

Was driving to work in the morning and heard a loud pop as i was moving through my rural town, the truck started to handle funny. Once i got to work i noticed the bed didnt look right. The frame was cracked. Bad steel made it rust out before the body. I dont think the frame was designed correctly or maybe the steel was poor quality.

Takata recallmy 2005 chevy colorado the frame on passager side frame has a hole in it and due to rustif not fixed soon the frame will be into be very unsafe to drive on any roadframe. Sould not be bad in 11 years i can send pics tojust saw this last oil change.

Travelling i-270 in dublin, ohio around 2pm at approximately 70mph when truck engine died. The emergency flashers and radio were still operational. Pulled to right side of highway and attempted to stop. The brakes were losing power, but there was enough to slow and then stop. Dash indicated 'reduced power'. Upon pulling off road, wife contacted aaa, while i looked under hood for anything obvious such as battery terminals loose or any plugs being unplugged. Nothing appeared out of order, i got back into truck and it started. I told wife to tell aaa we would attempt to make it home, approximately 2 hours away. Through this all, the truck had stopped running 6 more times before we got home. It restarted after sitting a few minutes each time.truck was towed to local chevy dealership. After a few days, received call truck was repaired. The pcm (power control module) was replaced. When i got into vehicle there was a sheet of paper on transmission hump explaining what a refurbished part is (nhtsa doc#2). I glanced at it and thought it was mistake since i was charged $500 for the part alone. Total cost was $772.36 (nhtsa doc#1).when i got home i reviewed the paperwork, saw they had installed a used part and immediately called. They said a new part was not available. I contacted general motors (nhtsa doc#4 & nhtsa doc#5) and they were no help. I also contacted ac delco and they confirmed the part was not available as new. I thought manufacturers were required to make parts available for vehicles 10 years after production stopped. The truck is 10 years old, but production of that generation stopped in 2012.

Dt*:the contact stated while traveling at various speeds the vehicle stalled.the vehicle was taken to the dealer however the problem could not be duplicated. Updated 05/10/06.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet colorado.while driving 60 mph, the accelerator pedal became stuck all the way to the floor.he had to kick the accelerator pedal in order for it to return to its normal position.the current and failure mileages were 42,000.

Complete failure of all brake lights due to brake light switch. Was warned by another motorist following a near collision. I noticed several weeks prior to incident that the cruise control failed to engage. Dealership that performed the repairs stated that my vin number was not included in the recall.

Front left abs sensor on a 2005 cheverolet colorado. The truck only has 88,000 miles on it and the abs fault signal comes on everytime i drive causing my brakes to become stiff which stops them from working causing me to almost hit someone everytime i go to a red light or stop sign.

My cruise control stopped working and then my break lights. Put in new break bulbs and they still do not work! i was dri ing when cruise control went out and my husband noticed my breaks while i was driving.

Re: nhtsa action number : pe05065brake light switch was replaced on my 2005 chevy colorado after i reported, to the dealership, that none of the brake lights worked and the cruise control would not activate.

Dt*:the contact stated when cresting a hill the cruise control will over accelerate by 3 to 4 mph.the momentum causes the accelerator to disengage, when it re -engages the vehicle accelerates as much as 15 mph more than the set speed.the hill does not have to have a decline for the acceleration.the owner's manual states this could happen and the brake should be applied after cresting the hill.the dealership was able to duplicate the problem and determined it is an anomaly in the programming of the computer.other model year vehicles were driven and the dealership determined it happened with those vehicles.the brakes slow the vehicle sometimes, but the cruise control must be deactivated to completely remedy the problem.updated 02/07/06.

My windshield wipers started working intermittently, working, not working, and only working on the high setting.this would happen while i was driving in the rain, almost forcing me to pull over.finally, my wipers stopped working all together on all speeds accept for the highest speed.at the same time, my ac/heater fan stopped working on all speeds accept for the highest speed.i searched online to find out what the problem was, and i came across a lot of complaints on the same issue.it seems that these trucks have a defective brain that causes this potentially dangerous problem.i was quite surprised to find that this systemic problem has not already been recalled.that is why i decided to file this complaint.thank you

The a/c blower control switch doesn't work in positions 2 or 3, but functions properly in positions 1 and 4.
