Driver/owner travelled into a parking lot, parked without incident and turned the ignition completely off. Within seconds, the driver stepped out of the vehicle, then leaned over to retrieve the key which was still in the ignition. As the driver removed key from ignition, without warning, the driver's side airbag deployed, striking him in the left cheek. The driver sustained facial burns. Paramedics and fire responded. Later, he was taken to an emergency room. Prior to this incident, the vehicle operated properly and received routine maintenance with dealer.
Airbag light is continually on. When running, driving, at all times.
I put key into on position and airbag deployed and hit me in face. My face was red & swollen on right sidewhere i was hit by bag.my truck not moving was parked my seatbelt was out side i was getting it on when bag deployed.gm is giving me a hard time!i keep getting 1800customer service numbers they gave me a pac # but they have not followed up with me or dealer. I bought the truck it had 101,000 on ithas 176,000 on it now.gm only agreed to take care of it after i told them i was in vehicle when the bag deployed. Still waiting for my truck to be fixed. Dealer told me thecomputer is fried so it needs bag and computer then maybe they can find out why it blew.cost is $1500-2000 to fix they said it may do it again. So i left waiting and wondering what next? luckily i had stopped for work supplies on my way home, and did not drive straight home! otherwise, i would have been in a wreck! after it happened, i wondered why cab filled with powder. I called dealer! they could not believe this, so i drove the truck to them. They cut bag off wheel and taped horn cover on.i returned it to them to fix.the used car dealer turned it over to a gm dealer by them and there it sits? waiting for gm to call and give gm dealership the go ahead to fix!, and for gm to call me and give me a reason for all of this!
I was in a car accident a vehicle had ran out of gas, i was traveling about 45mph and rear ended the stopped vehicle. Then a truck hit me. My air bag did not deploy.
Several months ago i received a safety recall for this vehicle. I took the truck to my chevy dealership, they told me they could not perform the repair because the odometer had over 120,000 miles on it. My question is this, do all safety recalls no longer become safety problems when the odometer reaches a certain number ?if this is the case there must be thousands of safe unsafe vehicles on our highways due to this type of enforcement. Please tell me this is a joke.
Truck left road hit embankment then rolled. Air bag did not deploy.
Wires in the harness which pass from cab to left rear door break.the break disables the seat belt lock up mechanism.a broken wire causes the air bag readiness light to illuminate. The door open and close switch is inoperable. The left rear stereo speaker does not work.
Airbag warning light came on i feel this needs to be a recall as other colorado owners have had the same problem.
Wires to the airbag wiring harness are broken in rear drive rside passenger door. Resulting in airbag light to come on.
My air bag light stays on. I think it is a broken wire in the rear door.
The air bag light would not go off. The power window on the drivers side rear would not operate from the drivers door master switch panel.the passenger side mirror stopped working. The airbag light remains on, the inoperative power rear window continues to be operational but only from the rear door switch and continues to be non responsive to the drivers door master panel. The all the power windows ceased to function and i found a blown fuse which when replaced allowed the three working windows to resume operation. I had a certified mechanic troubleshoot the airbag system with a computer program. He told me the airbag system would not reset due to a fault with the drivers side door airbag located in the "a"pillar.as there are already recalls on gm pickup truck driver side master window, mirror switch and these above stated failures the risk of safety may have to be investigated and a recall expanded.
In october 2015, i received a notice from gm indicating a fault with the airbags. The letter indicated that they would cover the repairs if the years had not exceeded 10 past manufacture, which, on a 2004 model this was already a disqualifier. They also indicated not in excess of 120k miles, again a disqualifier on my vehicle with 150k miles. Additionally, when i showed the letter to the local dealer, and they ran a vehicle report, the recall was not shown.for all intent then, gm is disregarding the faulty airbags on my vehicle.it is my understanding that when the indicator is on, the airbags are not functioning.i would think that an airbag issue, with a known cause by the manufacturer, should be a lifetime recall.i am the original owner of the truck.originally, this was an intermittent problem when using the left rear door, but it is no longer so.i am submitting this report today, as i am concerned that this long standing issue will never be satisfied by gm.
The airbags were deactivated due to the wires being damaged through normal use of the extended cab rear door.a normal mechanic shop wouldn't fix it, because it was a safety issue, so took the truck to the chevrolet dealer, who confirmed the problem, and had to replace the wiring harness in that door.
The consumer crashed into a tree head on at 35 mph. The front air bags failed to deploy upon impact. The driver sustained injuries to his head, shoulder and neck.
A/c heater resistor and plastic connector for both resistor and blower motor arced and melted. Also air bag light is on.
The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet colorado. The contact stated that while driving approximately 10 mph, the air bag light illuminated. The air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the mechanic diagnosed that the broken wire in the extended cab front driver's side door needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 98,000.
Airbag light is on. My truck has never been in an accident. Through research i have found that the wiring in the door breaks.
While in parked or in motion, the air bag indicator lamp stays lit. I took it to two separate repair shops and they were unable to correct the problem. One shop removed the front passenger seat to check for faulty wires or connections and found none. I was advised to take my 2004 chevrolet colorado double cab truck back to the dealership where i purchased it, to have diagnosed & repaired. The problem still exist as of today.
Airbag indicator light required dealer repair to replace a wiring harness at a cost of $91.
Air bag warning light was lit on my 2004 chevrolet colorado extended cab which i assume would make the air bags inoperable during an accident.problem determined to be a broken wire in the harness between the cab and the back door.
The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet colorado. The contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
2004 chevy colorado turned on partially to the on position to start the vehicle and the drivers airbag popped out in my face and hit me very hard .this vehicle was not hit or anything, it was in a standard parking lot and when it popped out my hearing when blank or deaf like. The vehicle was not running at the time of the explosion. Chevy thought maybe a malfunction but then advised me to go down the road to a nearby abra auto body which that guy thought chevy may be hiding a type of airbag malfunction recall, anyways chevy wouldn't estimate the price to be fixed and abra said i was looking around 1300.00 for repair.
On 10/15/2004, i began to turn the ignition key of my 2004 chevrolet colorado automobile.the vehicle was parked.just as i turned the ignition, the steering wheel airbag inflated.the steering wheel airbag inflated for no reason.the vehicle is still under warranty since i have only owned the vehicle several weeks.the manufacturer will be replacing the airbag under warranty.the airbag inflation did not result in serious injury.the only injury was a rug burn like feeling to the face and a sore left eye and a sore left hand.neither appear to be serious.
I have a 2004 chevrolet colorado extended cab that continues to experience intermittent electrical problems.the airbag sensor light comes on unexpectedly, the fan blower intermittently stops working on settings 1-3, and the front turn signal bulbs go out every 5000-6000 miles. I can usually brush the components under the glove compartment to get the blower working, and the airbag sensor usual goes out after a week or so.
The driver's side air bag deployed inadvertently when the key was turned in the ignition to start vehicle.it is currently at dealership.*sc
While driving the air bag light warning light turned on, taken to dealership to be fixed, problem persisted even after the dealership said air bag connectors were cleaned and/or replaced, currently unaware if air bags will deploy in the event of an accident.vehicle rpm's fluctuate down to 500while vehicle is slowing to a stop during cold weather. Dealership was issued service bulletin and problem was addressed but returned within driving approximately 50 miles, during severely cold weather vehicle is able to stall the engine while in motion.
Dt: the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet colorado extended cab. The child safety seat will not fit into rear extended cab fold down portion seat. The dealer talked to gm, and gm did not agree thatthis was a problem. Gm came and took pictures of the seat inside the car, and said it did comply. The consumerhad the seat inspected by three car safety seat inspectors ,and they told him that it did not pass , and it was not safe for the child. The infant seat will fit, but a larger seat will not. For a bigger seat to even come close to fitting in the back seat, the seat would have to be pushed up so much that it would endanger the person sitting in the front passenger seat because they would be so close to the air bag. There was nocut off switch for the air bag in this car.
Vehiclewas involved in a frontal collision at 40 mph impact.driver's side seat belt failed to hold the driver in place , and the driver's side air bag failed to deploy. Driver sustained injuries, and was transported to the local hospital by an ambulance.dealer was contacted, and the vehicle is at the body shop.

The switch which controls the fan speed for the heat and a/c quit working. The fan only works when the it is set on high.
Blower motor resistor connector overheats, whereas a terminal burns, creating a poor connection and no power.
Had blower problems with a/c, would not work on 1 - 3, only on 4.now bower has stopped working completely.and, approx. 5 days after blower went out completely, electrical system will not cut off on it's own even after key is removed from ignition.i am resorting to disconnecting battery source every time.i am a chassis specialist with international trucks assembly plant in texas so i know the all too familiar signs of a defective chassis harness.the issue with the brake light recall is gm's attempt to repair an electrical jumper off the rear harness, solving nothing.
The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet colorado. The contact stated her vehiclewould stall intermittently after it was turned on. The failure was diagnosed, both the dealer and manufacturer were aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 117,000.
Blower fan works intermittently. Ocassional smell of burnt wires. Finally stopped working on settings 1,2 and 3, will only work on setting 4. This seems to be a common problem on the chevy colorados that gm will not acknowledge.
The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet colorado. The contact stated that the interior lighting, door chime, and radio did not turn off. The vehicle was taken to mayse automotive group (2032 s elliott ave, aurora, mo 65605) where it was determined that the wires running from the rear driver's side door had to be replaced; however, the parts for the repair were no longer being manufactured. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 190,000.
My 2004 chevy colorado ls 4x4 has an issue with the passlock system that shuts my truck off while driving down the road when this event happens i loose my power steering. This is a well known problem that has no fix. The chevy dealer says it's a common problem with no real definitive solution.
The vehicle fan control fails to function on settings 1, 2, or 3. Setting 4 functions properly. The connector plug at the fan housing and wiring harness shows signs of charring.
Sometimes, especially in winter months when it is cold outside the door locks will stop working. For example, using the remote to lock the doors, they won't lock and the security alarm (horns) will go off if you open the closed door because the computer system thinks the door is locked sending security system into tamper mode. Also when shifting to drive, the doors will not lock as they normally do when vehicle is shifted out of park. Also some lights may not illuminate such as the left front side marker lamp/turn signal. Eventually the electrical system will reset and the door locks will work normally. It isn't just during cold weather that this happens but it seems to happen more often during colder weather. Gm dealer replaced a couple of switches when i brought my truck in while under warranty but haven't brought it in since the expiration of my warranty and it still does it on certain occasions.
For the past year my 2004 colorado has intermittently failed to start when ignition key is first turned to start position. By turning the key off and than on again it will start. It does this once in while, but always seems to start the second or third turn of the key to the start position. Twice over the last two years it wouldn't start at all and i had to let it sit for ten minutes or so, than try again, at which time it started. I believe the problem is caused by the pass lock security system. Because its out of warranty i haven't done anything about it.
Blower fan works intermittently. Finally stopped working on settings 1,2 and 3, will only work on setting 4. Replaced resister 1stfrom dealer, the climate switch panel. Finally the fan wouldn't run @ all, took to local mechanic replaced wiring harness & fan motor. Took about a year to get truck fully repaired.
The ignition will not start at first.it takes multiple times in order to get the engine to turn over.once the ignition does cause the engine to turn over, the vehicle will suddenly lose power while driving as the vehicle shuts itself off (as if the ignition has been turned off although it has not been).this has happened on multiple occasions in the course of normal driving activities, several times while crossing busy intersections which luckily has not resulted in any crashes to date, but may very well result in a potentially fatal one should it continue to occur.engine has been tested and all systems check out, except for the ignition switch which -will- have to be replaced.
Vehicles bcm-body control module is defective or the system in its self is defective. Vehicles will not start or may shut off at random from time to time. Scan tools will not be able to recognize the problem as the bcm. So repairs made may make it seem like it fixed the problem but a couple hours/days/weeks later the problem will disguise it self as something else or even come back as the same problem. I myself was told it was the starter and hey it worked, until 3 hours later. Then told the ignition passlock was defective, got it fixed until 1 hour later. Now i have narrowed it down to what controls the whole system, the bcm. Many people have complaints about this same issue all over the web forums, i dont know if any has been reported to nhtsa. So i figured i would start. I have this system effects 2004-2012 models of chevy colorado, gmc canyon and hummer h3.
Dashboard lights randomly go off or flicker.the a/c and heater/defroster blower stops working randomly or for an entire day at a time only to work the next day and then quit again.the a/c heating fan blower does not work on speeds 1,2, or 3, only on speed 4. I have had the wiring harness replaced numerous times only to have the problem continue again. The mechanics never can seem to find the problem until we get to the harness where there is always a burned wire. They replace it and just like this last replacement, within the week the problems returned.
Cruise control still not working had it in to have it checked they replaced the recall than i took it and still did not work than took it back than they replaced another switch than they said the cruise was commanding onthan i took it and tried it and nothing worked.
Vehicle sometimes will not start. Once it happens, let sit for 10 minutes and it will then start.taken to dealer and was told it is the passlock (security) system.checked internet, seems to be a common problem with newer gm vehicles.
Abs kick in when vehicle is cold in the morning, then disable along with an abs fault light on the instrument panel, then goes away in the afternoon. The abs kicks in and the brake pedal will not go down.
I was making a leftturn and i let the clutch out a little too fast which stalled the engine. I went to restart and engine just craned over and overwould not start. That is where i almost got hit. Had to push trk thru intersection .i have had this problem with it not restarting for a few years now.i have to wait 10 minutes before restarting. It happens intermittently when i go to start it does not start. It just cranks over.the book says its an anti-theft switch.i have to wait 10 minutes before restarting.i have seen on chevy colorado trk sites that it is a common problem with the ignition switch.
Recurring incidence of failure of driver side window and lock/unlock buttons on both drivers side and passenger side door pad inoperable at indeterminate periods of time. 2004 chevy colorado zq8hvac blower harness and resistor.part was replaced at approximately 15,000 miles under mfg warranty with identical parts.again out of warranty with no new revised parts at 45,000 and now again at 77,000 miles.harness and resistor failure had gotten so hot each time that it had melted the harness to the resistor.possible fire hazard, with severely burnt wires.looking it up on forums this is common on all gm model colorado and canyon trucks, gm knows of the problem, but refuses to offer a revised part or real solution.
6 months after purchasing a brand new 2004 chevrolet colorado zq8 3.5l extended cab i noticed while driving on the highway wind noise coming from the passenger door as if the door was not completely closed. 2 months later and it was so loud i had to turn my radio over half volume just to listen to my radio. I had the truck seen by the dealership which i bought it and they said that the cause was misaligned. The b4000 door assembly front right align 9635 w5 0.30.they adjusted the door and for 2 months there was no wind noise. The problem keeps occurring needing alignment. I also have a problem with the screws coming loose on the driver side door causing a metal binding sound everytime i open and close the door. Each time i open and close the door the screws are loose enough to were i can hand tighten them. I also had a computer problem in this vehicle as well. A year after having my vehicle out of nowhere and no warning my truck would not start. It would crank over but would not start. I had it towed to the dealership and the invoice states: scan computer codes p2610 stored in pcm. Mandy codes stored in bcm. Ran bulletin search. Found pcm failure replace pcm. Reprograms and clear codes recheck ok. However since the new computer was placed in the truck the alarm light will come on and stay on every once in a while.
The electric system isknocking out the brake light and cruise control on all 2004 and up chevrolet colorados. I was driving home from work just to be pulled over because the brake lights weren't working he told me the guy behind me almost nailed me because of it. I didn't know! but i did know of the colorados having a big problem with the electric system knocking out the brake lights and cruise control. So i got on line to see just how bad it was and found out it's no laughing matter all most every chevrolet colorado truck has this problem. Just thank of coming to a stop from 65 miles an hour and not having brake lights, i and some people on the road with me got lucky today. I called two of my closest gm dealers to try to get it fixed today and asked did they know of a problem like this and they did but gm has no recall it's at the owners exspense to get it fixed, while i told them both what i found out online. The answer from them was no one has died yet. **** that's what it takes to get some things fixed now days for some one to die before the companies fix a defective vehicle.please can someoneforce gm to fix the problems with the colorado trucks please help outus owners of these trucks we can't keep spending money like this i also have spent hundreds on other problems through out the seven years i owned the truck. Times are tight can't just go out and buy another vehicle. Look online these trucks are prone for trouble and people don't know it until they have bought the truck.
Todays date is 04/20/2013 #1-wheel alignment front to back, where rear passenger side tire sticks out from body. #2- this is my forth set of tires because of alignment problems.#3-rear tail lights seem to be burned out, they are not it a poor socket problem, i lube with electrical grease.i can't believe that they are introducing the market withmaking more of the problems for the new line 2014 and beyond.this is the worst chevrolet i ever owned the 2004 colorado. I have owned 14 chevys, will chevys be in my future?
Throughout the course of ownership, i've had several complaints to the dealership concerning the faulty electrical wiring in my vehicle.since 2004, all repairs have been electrical problems.i have reason to believe that the faulty wiring in my vehicle was the cause of fire to my vehicle which resulted in a total loss.i was also made aware by local firemen at the scene that they've had the same type of fires with the same make and model vehicle just in my area alone.here is a summary of service history since taking ownership in 2004:brake switch replacement: 11/19/2004, 1/23/2006, 1/26/2007, and 5/26/2008r&r blower resistor replacement: 8/28/2007rear window regulator replacement: 5/1/2006speaker replacement: 5/1/2006complained about various electrical wiring issues on 1-24-05, 9-1-05, and 1-26-07.
Everyday now when i try to start the truck it turns over but will not start, wait 15 minutes then it will start.today when i tried it the first time it turned over but would not start so when i turned it off at the key it stopped then tried to start again on its own for about 8 to 10 secs.the starter turned the engine over without touching the ignition switch it then stopped for about 3 or 4 secs then tried to start on its own again without touching the key, it did this start sequence 3 times in a row.the gm passlock system is terribly defective as reported by all the reports online and i believe my problems are a result of this system.
Vehicle was repaired at bacon chevrolet in milledgeville, ga.i am still getting letters to the effect that it was not repaired.i personally saw new part on vehicle.
Heater fan does not work.it is wintertime and i have two children ages 4 1/2 years and 9 months.faulty wiring for the fan.
The dashboard lights will stop working if your driving at night and turn the car off and then turn it back on.they will not work until the car sits for a long period of time.this started soon after buying the car brand new, but the dealership couldn't find anything wrong.second complaint, the heater/air conditioner fan had an electrical fire at where the harness plugs into the fan motor.the fan will only work on high.when i looked online at other complaints about the same problem, i unplugged the fan and noticed the plug was burnt.i have photos that i can send.it appeared the electrical fire continued down the plastic plug to where the wires are exposed.this could have been a major incident if i didn't notice it.there are a lot of complaints about this with colorado trucks online.also when driving at night, my dash lights and instrument lights flicker as if there is another electrical short somewhere in the wiring harness.
Some times, the car will not start if the ignition key lock light blinks. I have to wait ten minutes so that it startsi have taking it to the dealer and they have said that it has a faulty ignition housing, of course they want to charge me a lot to fix it. I believe is a factory defect.my truck has a salvage title, so the warranty on it was voided. I have heard of other chevy colorado trucks with same problem.
My check engine light has been coming off and on continuously for the past six months, however it was diagnosed and it wasn't a big problem. Recently, i have been able to unlock my truck using the keyless entry and when i am in the vehicle the doors will not lock with the lock/unlock button on the door.when driving, after accelerating over 20 mph, the doors use to lock themselves, but now they do not.normally when i put my truck in park, all the doors will automatically unlock.this has not been happening.i am scared to keep anything in my truck and fear that this might cause more serious problems and expenses.i would like to know if this has been happening with other colorado's? it seems like since i have gotten this vehicle it has been one problem after another and i am very disappointed in chevrolet.
Driver's side electrical button control pad inoperable at irregular and inconsistent instances. Upon pushing driver's side window electrical button, driver side window will not roll down. However, the driver's back, passenger front side, and passenger back side electrical keypad window buttons remain operable.both the driver and front passenger lock/unlock electrical keypad buttons are inoperable. Upon turning off engine, removing key, exiting vehicle, closing all doors, and pushing the keyless entry lock and/or unlock buttons result in response from keyless locking mechanism. When key is left in ignition and engine running, upon pressing either the lock/unlock electrical buttons on the driver's door or pressing the keyless entry lock/unlock buttons result in a double "dinging" sound from the dashboard display but no other indication is produced from dashboard.dealer response; customer copy invoice: operate window, check connector on switch. Window operates normally, cannot duplicate customer complaint.abs light will come on and stay for an indeterminate amount of time. Normal and correct operation of abs dashboard display light indeterminate. Results in customer concern for safety of driver and all passengers relying on correctfunctioning of abs brake system.dealer customer copy invoice: scan computer code c0040. Run flow chart, found right front hub and sensor had intermittent open circuit. Replaced right front hub and speed sensor.upon starting vehicle to warm up engine in 40-50 degree fahrenheit environmental conditions, inside manual heat-directional knob will not turn unless extreme pressure is applied.dealer customer copy invoice: compare knob operation with another colorado tension knob is the same. The vehicle was parked and started up due to the snow/ice to melt the windshield. The fan would only work on the high setting which is "4". I replaced the resistor as it was burnt. It worked ok for a week and then burnt out again. If i jiggle the wires it will sometimes work on 1, 2 or 3 setting but not for very long. I have replaced 3-4 resistors and i'm tired of replacing them. Seems to me that this should be a recall as tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of chevrolet colorados have had this problem. Just do an internet search and find the thousands of reports yet gm is not doing anything about it. Also, one time while driving the fan quit and the entire dash lights went out including the speedometer, rpm gauge and fuel/battery gauges.
2004 chevrolet colorado.consumer writes in regards toengine and ignition switch problems.the consumer stated on april 12, 2014, the vehicle shut off while driving 30 mph. The brake pedal was hard to push and the dashboard read reduced power. After waiting three minutes, the consumer was able to re-start the vehicle. The vehicle stalled again, after driving two miles. According to the service invoice, the pcm computer was bad.
Dashboard lights not always coming on at night only odometer lights up.
The first and ongoing problem grinding in front left, driver, side wheel area.many attempts have been made to fix this problem, they started out changing the whole front end, along with alignments, after some adjusting the problem will seem to go away only to return with in 2 monthssecond, tires worn from inside outalignment, new tires, i was told one reason was the truck was dirty. I do not feel this is a reason for tire wear. New tires same problem.third, truck not engaging when shifted into gear. This is on going, we have taken it in many times, the modular for the 2-4h-4ldrive was changed, still have problem, they claim can not fix if it does not happen with them,, i video taped it, they will not look at video.problem is intermittently, and have been asked to do different things to the truck when it happens, the problem is happening more often now, the problem seems to be growing. And still no answer to this or other problems, the dealer should have took back the truck and replaced it, if they can not be fixed.
Vehicle keeps stalling at idle or as you are slowing to stop at traffic lights, drive thru's...acts as if it isn't charging properly. Have replaced battery, plugs, belt tensioner, drive belts.this is dangerous!!!i almost got hit again in morgantown! brake lights, head & tail lights keep going out as well!!!my husband recently diagnosed with cancer. I am having to drive him back & forth to wvu hospital in the colorado. It is dangerous having to drive this thing like this! talking to other colorado ownersexperiencing same/similar problems!truck does great on highway, except for lights going off & on. Please help!!! truck now has about 119,000 miles.
A/c heater resistor and plastic connector for both resistor and blower motor arced and melted. Also air bag light is on.

I have a 2004 chevy colorado.the problem i am having with my vehicle is the a/c switch will not work on setting 1 through 3.although 4 works all the time.i have had it fixed 3 times since i bought the truck by a chevy dealer yet the problem keeps happening, and once again it has stopped working.i have read many automobile forums and it seems many people are having the same problem yet chevy has yet to issue a recall.
Front turn signal lights don't work fixed twice now saying the fuse box is the problem.blower motor does not work after 3 blower motor resistors a new blower motors and connectors. Sometimes the radio does not work. The truck has stalled driving on the highway 3 times all loss of power.
Idle control via electronic throttle body raises rpm very high when the accelerator pedal is not depressed, causing uncontrolled acceleration of vehicle during coasting or when brake pedal is applied. Turning the vehicle off with the key is the only action that has resulted in a cessation of extremely high idle. After restarting the vehicle, the symptom is gone and the vehicle operates normally. This behavior is erratic and inconsistent, the problem has been difficult to duplicate during diagnosis. All testing and inspection of the electronic throttle body, wiring harness, connectors, and functions within the engine computer has shown no defect or indication that a wiring fault, dirty throttle body, or other "wear and tear" item is the cause of this intermittent revving at idle. The most recent event occurred on august 9th 2017. This has been occuring for at least 6 months, on average once a month in frequency.
Could cause fire!!!ac speed regulator of my 2004 crew-cab colorado overheated so much that the adapter burnt in the inside and cables overheated to the point that it couldn't be touched and started to smoke. This is located underneath the glovebox compartment. If this is left unattended could cause a fire inside the vehicle!
With the revelation of the gm ignition recall problem, there are much more ignition problems that were not included in the recall. The problem is in the ignition cylinder and alignment with the passlock or passkey sensor. My problem started shortly after the vehicle went out of warranty and i was told by the dealer that it was a $1000.00 repair. I can not afford $1000. So i have lived with it. Because of the misalignment it causes the ignition to think that the vehicle is stolen and disables the fuel injectors, it has left me stranded quite a few times along the road waiting for the computer to manually reset after 10 minutes, it has also cost me several towing bills until i did an internet search and found out how widespread this issue is. If the misalignment is causing this to happen what will it affect as the problem worsens. This issue is not covered by the current recall but deserves investigating .[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Airbag light is on. My truck has never been in an accident. Through research i have found that the wiring in the door breaks.
Blower fan works intermittently. Does not work on settings 1,2 and 3, will only work on setting 4. Fan will resume working on all speeds if fan motor tapped with foot or hand..
I replaced a second brake light switch.first one was replaced under recall.dealer said no open recalls for my vehicle.i had to pay out of pocket.since this is only a $10 part, it's not the price but the safety issue.i have filed a complaint with you on this same issue on 12/16/2005 - (please refer to odi number 10145757).again i don't know how long this switch was defective, but i have noticed other vehicles tailgating more frequently in the last couple of weeks. This could have been out a day, or months.i am very concerned with a future accident, or an accident involving other 2004 chevy colorado owners, since the part i just purchased from the dealer has the identical part # - 25796381 - as the one i replaced.without going into major detail, i again ask you to refer to the above odi # as this complaint has the identical basis.since i only have 44,900 miles on my truck, i would like to see a permanent fix for this part since it is a dangerous situation to drive without brake lights.thanks for your time.
I bought this vehicle in 2014 with only 86000 miles on it.i had to have brand new key cut and programmed when i purchased it.starting in july of 2016 i started having issues with it not starting and cutting out.now it won't start at all.it is the theft system not allowing it to start.i have read thousands of complaint about this issue over many different gm vehicles.some nearly causing wrecks, stranding people with kids , etc.why has this issue been let go for so long.does gm not care about their customers. I bought another chevy right after i bought this truck.we got rid of it because it was doing the same thing.
I've had to replace 2 heater blower resistors due to a meltdown, this is a potential fire hazard and should be put on a recall notice. I was driving around 40 mph at the time .
The brake light switch has failed multiple times.it was covered twice under a recall.switches only last 1.5-2 years.there is no warning or dash light when they go out.i have almost been rear ended twice.happened again april 13, 2015.i drove it straight to the dealer when i found out in traffic.i knew it was the brake switch again and the dealer confirmed.the dealer called gm to see if they would cover the replacement.they refused.the dealer gave me a discount as they know it is an issue and charged me $87 to change.this is the second time i have had to pay. He gave me this number to call but that was no use as they refused last time.800-222-1020.most concerning to me is the lack of concern by gm to fix a know safety issue in the brake and light system.someone probably has or will be seriously injured or killed.they need to come up with a comprehensive fix and at a minimum continue covering failures under warranty.not fixing the design problem then making money charging people is not right.the dealer who did the work last time is five star chevy in dallas, tx.craig greene was the representative who tried to help me with gm if you need to contact him.dealer tried but gm did not take ownership for their product.
Electrical, heater blower only operates on high,1 2 and 3 does not,new circuit board installed, failed again, hat to stick a paperclip in harness to get it to run correctly.
I too have experienced problems with the hvac system of this truck. I have had to replace no less than 4 resistors and connectors due to melting and burned connections. I have not had to replace a single fuse. My hvac is once again inoperable and i have opened and inspected each connection point to locate the problem. I have found multiple connectors to be burned or melted. This problem has been flagged by the nhsta in the hummer h3 vehicles which use the same hvac system. The chevrolet/gmc/isuzu colorado/canyon (gmt355) should be included in this recall.there is no reason these connections should get hot enough to bubble and burn plastic before burning out a fuse. I can provide images upon request. I can also provide an example of a failed connector in the hvac speed control switch for physical inspection. I have set the "fire" flag on this report as there has been evidence of multiple electrical fires on multiple occasions in several locations in the hvac system of this vehicle.
Abs fault light went on. Turned off engine, restart, light off. Goes on and off randomly.
Multiple failure of blower resistor3 occurrences in 6 month periodeach time the resistorhad to be replaceda new plug assy was installed after the 1st occurrence.
This incident occurred twice.it involves the heater blower motor resistor assembly.8 years ago my daughter used put her back pack on the passenger floor where it repeatedly made impacted the connection to the blower motor relay assembly.this eventually caused thepin and socket on the orange wire to separate to the point where it arced and burnt.i found and repaired the socket when the heater would only work on high. On the 16th of dec 2013, a passenger size 12 shoes accidentally, and unwittingly kicked the same spot and caused the same fault.i repaired the socket again.my complaintis the resistor connection is in a spot to easily service, but it is in a vulnerable spot for accidental contact.i believe it needs a robust protective cover, either metal or plastic.for people that cannot repair their own vehicles, this situation could cost them a couple of hundred dollars.my other electrical fault is the right side window motor.it quit working couple of years ago, and i was able to take it apart and clean the brushes.it worked for a couple of years until it stopped a couple of weeks ago.i replaced the motor because i could not find brushes to replace.i am convinced that the brushes failed because they were made brittle from slamming the doors too hard by the passengers.the doors are light and it is common for them to slammed.the brushes or the motor need to be more robust.
The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet colorado crew-cab. The contact stated that when the battery died and a new battery was installed, the automatic key fob entry became inoperable. In addition, the driver's side window would become inoperable and could not be opened or closed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised the contact that the driver's side door control switch needed to be replaced. The switch was not replaced and the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure who advised the contact that there were no recalls and offered no further assistance. The failure mileage was 77,000.
Intermittent non working power door locks wipers headlights and windows!there are hundreds of these incidents posted online. There looks to be thousands of dollars in repairs with no solution!
The hvac blower motor resistor assembly melted on the vehicle. The current passing through the unit is sufficient to melt the connector and degrade the wires to brittle.i believe this is a possible fire hazard.a number of co-owners have found the same defect.the connection in questionterminal (c) goes to a ground distribution block that might not be sufficient.
I noticed that when using the remove only the driver's door would lock and unlock. I go into the truck and used the panel and again only the driver's door would lock and unlock. I paid out of pocket to replace the switch inside the truck on the driver's door that controls the windows and the locking system. It worked for about 8 months and it has gone out again.
Turn ignition to off position and park indicator light and radio stays on. Have to jiggle key to get to go off. Come out several hours later and park indicator light and radio are back on./ also, heat and air control fan only works on high speed. I was told it was a resistor ,i replaced resistor and it still continues to do this. I can reach down and jiggle the resistor and it works on all speeds for a short while only. Have a friend with gmc canyon that has had this problem since his was new also.
Colorado 2004--the driver's window stops working and battery goes dead.the body control module is replaced.then the fuse block has scorchmarks.possible fire.this is a common problem with a chev. Colorado.repairs are being done by a local repair garage.chevrolet has moved out of our area. There is some problem with the fuse block just waiting for a major fire or property damage to happen.
For being mechanically inclined this is definitely one problem i cant fix. I did the pads and rotors on my 2004 chevy colorado, all went well, nice and easy. Later that week my abs light came on. I had my breaks checked and the mechanic said it wash showing wheel speed sensor. I bought the part and replaced it nice and easy again. The light turned off for about 2 min then came back on. The next time i went to drive my truck i turned it on, the sensor was off then the abs system started engaging on and off making a weird pump sound and making my brakes engage and disengage. This happens for about 20 sec then goes away and the abs light comes back on. I thought nothing worse could happen after having the computer replaced twice on the truck. This is worse.
My air bag light stays on. I think it is a broken wire in the rear door.
2004 chevrolet colorado.consumer writes in regards to a defective ignition switch.the consumer stated, he paid to have his ignition switch replaced, and is seeking reimbursement.he stated there were times, when the vehicle would not start, and it would take anywhere from 20-30 minutes. Over several years, he took the vehicle to the dealer, explaining the problems, with trying to start the vehicle. Each time he was told by the service manager, the problem could not be diagnose. Eventually, he took the vehicle to a repair shop, and the problem was finally diagnosed and the ignition switch was replaced. He no longer experienced starting problems. However, in september 2013, he decided to trade the vehicle.
I have replaced the master switch that controls the locks and windows once already. Got a new switch and it still doesn't work. I called gm and they said that there were no recalls on my truck for that issue. I can only lock and unlock the driver's side door with the interior panel or the remote- the rest of the doors do not lock/unlock.
Chevrolet has a known ignition system defect since march 2009. My 2004 chevrolet colorado intermittently does not start and then starts on the second try.chevrolet'sdocument: "#pip4575b: intermittent click no crank or brief crank no crank with dtcs - possible crank sensor - keywords bqmi - (mar 11, 2009)" explains the defect.i took my colorado in for service on 04-05-12 because it was not starting at all.they advised me the ignition cylinder was "not reading the key" properly. They replaced the ignition cylinder and reprogrammed a new key.this repair did not correct the intermittent no crank problem but did bring the problem back to the state where it would start on the second attempt following a no crank occurrence. I am convinced the initial ignition defect was the eventual cause of the complete failure of the ignition to start the vehicle.i believe this could be a safety issue on the vehicles affected by the intermittent no crank problem.if one of these vehicles stalled out, the possibility the vehicle could fail to start immediately, could cause an accident.even though chevrolet claimed the problem was under investigation, there has been no notification of any fix for the problem that i know of. I would also note that chevrolet is charging customers for diagnostic testing and ignition cylinder replacement even though they have know of this defect since 2009.however, replacing the ignition cylinder and reprogramming a new key is not correcting the original "no crank" ignition defect.
In very cold windy weather the battery light in drivers information center will come on and warning chime will ding twice. Light goes off. Problem does not repeat, unless the vehicle is turned off. Vehicle taken into the dealership for repair four (4) times. All repair attempts have failed, and dealership cannot duplicate problem due to the warmer weather conditions by the time an appointment is obtained at the dealership. Problem continues to happen, in cold weather.
Chevy colorado trucks risk of fire!this truck is on its 3rd a/c & heat fan speed control resister and corresponding connecting plug.the first two were covered under the factory warranty, this last one was not.each resister and plug in connector has been on the verge of catching on fire. At times you can smell smoke in the truck. If the fan speed control is on 1,2,or 3. Off & 4/high work ok.each plug has melted and is a charred black and the contacts are no longer supported by the plug.the intense heat has charred the resistors corresponding connection socket. I have photos of the resister and plug for your inspection. Upon request. And the old units for you.if you do a web search for chevy fan or blower speed control stops working you will find this is a common problem. This connection needs to be redesigned before it burns down someone?s house because they parked their car in the garage.updated 10/20/2017
Problem # 1: had to replace the hvac resistor and its wiring harness. Resistor plug and the harness plug was burned and melted...fire hazard! this safety hazard could have burned up my vehicle.problem #2: the abs warning light keeps coming on and when this happens (every day or so) the brakes do not work properly. This seems to happen when the vehicle is not parked on a level surface. The fault occurs once the vehicle moves forward from the parked position.
Dt:chevrolet colorad 2004.the cruise control picks up several miles going upa hill, going down hill it jumps.it will kick in real fast sometimes.the vehicle revvedin park position approximately 75 mph.when it did it would slow down it started to miss very badly.it was like the whole truckwas shaking.the dealer said it had something to do with the computer and with the crank. The cruise control was inoperative.*sc
The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet colorado ls. The contact was driving 5 mph when every warning light on the dashboard continuously illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer numerous times but the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was repaired several times but to no avail. The manufacturer was contacted but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not further repaired yet the failure persisted. The failure mileage was 70,600.
The ignition key has twice needed to be replaced as the key itself seems to lose the ability to turn in the ignition. I assume that the key wears out over a period of time, but i have never had this issue with any other vehicle that i have owned. I have had to call a locksmith both times and have a new key made in order to start the vehicle. Both times i was in a parking lot.
I have a 2004 chevy colorado, and this past week the brake light switch went out and caused my brake lights and cruise control to not function.my mechanic informed me that there was recall 09v310000 to address this issue.when i called my local dealer, they said that the recall was already filled in 2007 by the previous owner, and they could not help me.when i called gm corporate office, they said that due to the high miles (125,000) on my truck and the recall already being filled that they could not help me.the woman on the phone said that if the miles were not so high they would help me out.also, she then went on to say that even with high miles they would have fixed it if the recall wasn't taken care of in 2007.she said that gm will not take care of a recall a second time even if it is the same problem recurring.it is ridiculous to think that there is a known problem with this switch, has been recalled, has been fixed, still not functioning correctly, and gm will not address the issue when it continues to fail.if it is such a problem that gm will do a recall for the part, why is it not a big enough problem to fix correctly or another time with the faulty part fails again?the consumer should not be stuck with fixing a part out of their own pocket for something that continues to fail and is under recall currently!
The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet colorado. The contact stated that the resister for the wiring harness was defective and smoke would emit from the glove compartment. The dealer and manufacturer were made aware of the failure, but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 96,000 and the current mileage was 103,000. The vin was unavailable.
Their seems to be a short in the electrical system.shortly after purchasing the vehicle the clock in the stereo would not keep time. No matter how often you set it you canleave the vehicle parked for an hour or so come back and the clock has the wrong time in hours. I have recently had to replace all the bulbs on the passenger side "front and rear". Now the driver side park-signal light will not work when the vehicle is in gear. After you put the vehicle in park the light will come on. Also the electric windows do not always work. The tires on the front end have excessive wear on the in side.
Soon after new vehicle purchase in 1/04, cruise control periodically became inoperative.i do know if the brake lights were also inoperative.dealer could not duplicate the malfunction and did not diagnose a problem.this problem occurred approximately 5 times over the next 2.5 years.recently, the cruise control became inoperative again, as well as the rear brake lights.i took the vehicle to the dealer and informed them that a recall had been issued, though i had not received a recall notice from gm.i presented the dealer with a printout of the nhtsa recall information.dealer stated that there was no recall for my vehicle, and since my warranty had expired, i would have to pay for repairs.repair consisted of replacement of the brake light switch.the total cost of the repair was $175.04.i'm not sure if this has any connection, but the vehicle was inspected just prior to expiration of the warranty.one week later, and after expiration of the warranty, the battery died and required replacement.
Air is seeping out of the passenger side glass because it may not have been properly sealed at the factory. Also, the battery warning lights comes on upon starting the vehicle. The light dims then brightens as the vehicle is driven. This indicates a failure in the battery. Although the battery is fine. This maybe due to an electrical short. Dealership is not being helpful with resolving any of the problems.
Battery on colorado keeps going dead. 4 trips to the dealer for solution to this problem.replaced body control module and battery.
Driving from dealer to my house after buying truck the brake lights, wipers, horn, cruise control all stopped working at same time.
The anti-theft system in my truck (and in many other chevy's, apparently) will prevent the car from starting.it happens randomly, but frequently.
Dt: the contact states whentryingto startvehicle it starts shaking.the service dealer states that this is an intermittent problem, and there is a technical service bulletin.the consumer states when the vehicle does this after approximately 35 minutes the vehicle will start back.the service dealerreplaced the relay switch.but after a week the problem recurred. The manufacturer referred the consumer to the better business bureau.
The chevy colorado extended cab model has a history of the wire breaking in the same location causing the air bag (srs) light to remain on. I believe this manufacturing defect may not activate the srs in the event of a side impact. The wire in question is located inside a rubber boot between the rear doors and the main cab body. It seems if you use the rear doors it will develop a broken wire.
While driving50 mph driver was informed that the vehicle was on fire. Was able to pull over, and noticed fire coming from underneath the vehicle. The fireextinguished on its own. Vehicle was towed to the dealer f or inspection.
Abs triggered unexpectedly, abs and traction warning lights came on.no loss of control.repaired at dealership 10/14/11 replacing rf wheel bearing hub and speed sensor.subsequently incident repeated on two occasions, ca. 11/15/11 and ca. 12/16/11after starting into a turn at low speed, perhaps with slight braking.no loss of control.checked at dealership 2/14/2012 with no cause determined.later same day, failure occurred again, with same symptoms: low speed with turn and perhaps slight braking.no loss of control.diagnosis suggested faulty hubs again.resolution pending.
The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet colorado. While depressing the brake pedal or attempting to drive, the abs, stability control, and traction control warning indicators intermittently illuminated and flashed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed, but a failure code could not be found. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer and dealer were not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 62,000.
Truck has 25,000 miles.i do not drive it often because fuel economy has never been as advertised, no better than 15 mpg.when it worked, it was fun to drive.now fails inspection because the frame is severely rusted, my truck is now unsafe. Not cost effective to repair, i have to sell as scrap.radio replaced once.blower works but very noisy.abs sensors were replaced after 10,000 miles and need replacement again.i have replaced inner and outer tie rods after 21k miles.i have replaced gas tank gasket and exterior cab brake light.also replaced transmission shifter cable due to rust. Tube on rack and pinion rusted and replaced.tiny coolant leak that i cant find.all i can remember.most faulty vehicle i have ever owned. Never buy a first year model of any vehicle.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet colorado. The contact stated that the catalytic converter weld became fractured and separated. The failure recurred on multiple occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed the exhaust manifold and catalytic converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired.
The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet colorado. The contact stated when driving at a speed of at least 50 mph, the engine would idle roughly and the check engine light would illuminate on the warning panel. The dealer advised the engine intake valves were straining and all five cylinders were leaky due to the defective intake valves.the vin was not available. The failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 110,000.
The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet colorado. The contact stated that the check engine light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and they advised him that the 02 sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 82,000.
I recently took my chevrolet colorado in to a chevrolet dealership because my "check engine" lightwas on.it was diagnosed that a sensor on the gas tank was rusted and needed to be replaced. The service manager admitted this was common for a colorado. Parts were ordered and i was told it would cost about $800 to fix.i brought my truck in a few days later to have the work done.later that day i was called and asked to come in because they found another problem with my truck that i needed to see.upon arrival, i was taken out to see my truck on a lift and shown a frame that was completely rusted out.the service manager poked a screwdriver into the frame causing pieces of rust to fall to the floor exposing a hole in the frame.i was also shown where the frame was cracked right under the gas tank.they offered no explanation when i asked why they had not found this problem when they diagnosed the problem with the gas tank.all in this past year a the same dealership, i have had my truck in for new tires and shocks with no mention about my rusted frame. They blamed the rusted frame on the salt brine used on maine roads during the winter months.i was told my truck was pretty much worthless.when i asked why chevrolet didn't built frames to better resist the salt brine they offered no answer.i have taken my truck to multiple car shops where they reported they see this frequently and the only thing i can do is either sell my truck for parts or replace the frame which would cost in excess of $15,000. I can't imagine that my truck is an anomaly and wonder how many other people might be driving a vehicle that looks almost new like my truck does but has a rotted frame.toyota recalled their tokoma trucks due to this same problem.i am hopeful something can be done.other than the rotted frame on my truck the rest of the under carriage is pretty much pristine.
The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet colorado. The contact was driving approximately 45-65 mph when a total loss of engine power occurred with the illumination of the engine warning indicator. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after waiting a few moments and resetting the codes. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and repaired. The failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer four times with no resolution. In addition, the battery was replaced. The vehicle was not further repaired. The vin was unavailable.the failure mileage was 12.
Vehicles check engine light came on then went off after a couple of days.vehicle idle dropped to 500 rpms.the truck started to act sluggish and acted as if it would shut off at idle.during acceleration the vehicle was again sluggish.took the truck to a local shop and had the codes run.it came back as an engine low rpm code.i don't recall the actual code number.had them do a motor vacuum to clean the fuel system and reset code.the check engine light has gone away and has not come back on.vehicle does from time to time act as it is going to bog down.i thought that i should submit this complaint because it seems there are several others with the same problem.
While driving the vech. Once it goes under 10mph it will stall out. I then have to put it in n and restart. This has been going on for a while. Ever since it about 40-45,000 miles...i have not been able to afford to pay to have it fixed. I was told by a chevy dealer service manager that it has a faulty coil system and chevy does know about it but when they choose to issue a recall notice is there choice.

Engine & cooling systems, check engine light stays on while vehicle in use.engine misses or vibrates slightly.valves springs are bad @ 15,000 miles.
My 2004 chevrolet colorado has had repeated a recurring problem where it will not respond to the throttle at all while driving. In all cases this has happened when the engine is warming up from a complete cold start in the morning. While driving at 45-50 miles per hour the engine will drop to idle speed and there is no response to throttle input. The dealer has had the vehicle in for service on this issue 5 times now and can nothing wrong. There are no codes set in the computer andthe check engine light never comes on. The problem will clear itself after 20 to 30 seconds and may not occur again for weeks.
The check engine light comes on accompanied by an engine misfire due to weak exhaust valve springs which must be replaced. Recently gmc issued a bulletin to their service departments advising mechanics on the issue, and recognizing the problem with the valve springs and how to fix it, but will not acknowledge a manufacturer'sdefect.according to the bulletin this problem occurs in all chevrolet colorados 2004-2006, gmc canyons 2004-2006, and the hummer h3.the estimated cost of repair is about $2000, quoted by the dealer mechanic.not only does the check engine light come on and stay on, it also causes the vehicle to stall while in operation.the truck shut down in the middle of the intersection while driving.additionally you will have difficulty when you start your car, it will misfire and you may have to restart again.this will begin to happen regularly until you diagnose the problem.i went to different dealers to diagnose the problems because different mechanics could not find the problemwith the check engine light.the last step was a dealer mechanic that had just received the above mentioned bulletin.they did not fix the problem with the valve springs, instead they reset the computer to stop the check engine light from occurring.the misfiringand stalling continued to happen.

Dt*: the contact stated that while waiting at the traffic light, the engine raced andaccelerated as if it was engaging to 50 mph.in an attempt to prohibit the vehicle from accelerating, the clutch was engaged while depressing the brake pedal.there was also a sulphur smell inside the vehicle.the vehicle was taken to a service dealer who was unwilling to repair the vehicle without a fee.the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic shop who discovered two trouble codeson the diagnostic computer system.the first was a po300 random misfire code. The second was a p1133 front oxygen sensor slow and switching code.the check engine light from the panel was also constantly illuminated.the issues have gradually worsened since the vehicle was purchased.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet colorado.the vehicle misfired and the service engine warning light illuminated intermittently.there was a safety recall for the engine intake valve, however; no nhtsa campaign id was found. The dealer wanted to charge him $75.00 for the repair.the current and failure mileages were 65,000.the consumer provided documentation from gm corp stating no cost for the defect. Updated 09/12/07
Dt*:the contact stated while driving 65mph up an incline the vehicle began to loose power.the next day the check engine light illuminated.after inspecting the vehicle the independent repair shop reset the check engine light.the problem has not returned.

Dealership was issued service bulletin and problem was addressed but returned within driving approximately 50 miles, during severely cold weather vehicle is able to stall the engine while in motion.

Blower motor on a/c quit working on truck on speeds 1,2,3 still works on 4, checked on the internet and the problem is with the resistor module that controls the speed of the blower. Spoke to gm dealer, and he advised that the problem was with the module overheating and causing the plug to melt and cause the resistor pack to become inoperable. No warranty on part according to gm dealer, wants $76 to fix problem, i am not paying for part due to obvious manufacturer defect that is a possible safety hazard that can and will cause risk of fire, injury or death.
Front turn signal lights don't work fixed twice now saying the fuse box is the problem.blower motor does not work after 3 blower motor resistors a new blower motors and connectors. Sometimes the radio does not work. The truck has stalled driving on the highway 3 times all loss of power.

My cruise control and my rear driver's side top tail light went out a week or so ago. Today, my stop lights stopped working completely, including the 3rd brake light. I was almost rear ended and another driver informed me that my brake lights didn't work. After researching the issue, i discovered that the problems i'm experiencing are related to 2 switches above my brake pedal-the stop lamp switch and the brake cruise release switch.i called the chevy recall hotline and provided my vin #. The girl lacy informed me there wasn't a recall for my vehicle and that they would do nothing to help me get the problem resolved. I've seen numerous reports online of other people with the same issue being denied as well. The reference # to my call is [xxx]. I believe this to be an extreme safety hazard and would like chevy to cover the cost of the repair and any accidents i may get into as a result of this problem.thank you. The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet colorado. The contact stated that the recall remedy was performed two years ago under nhtsa campaign id number: 09v310000 (exterior lighting:brake lights:switch). The contact stated that for the first time since the remedy was performed, the brake warning light illuminated upon starting the engine. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was contacted and they stated that the recall expired. The failure mileage was 140,000 and the current mileage was 143,000.
Brake lamp switch assembly was recalled in 2006 and replaced.28,000 miles later the brake light switch assembly has again failed.this has caused the brake lights and cruise control to again malfunction.additionally, the reverse lights have failed and the fuse continues to fail.
As i was driving i noticed my speed control wasn't working. Once i arrived at my destination i researched this issue online and found that others also had problems with the brake lights when this happened. So, i went out to check my brake lights and they are non responsive.
Driving from dealer to my house after buying truck the brake lights, wipers, horn, cruise control all stopped working at same time.
Brake lights and cruise control will not work.
The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet colorado. While operating the vehicle, it was discovered that the brake lights would not illuminate when the brake pedal was depressed. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 76,000.
The brake light switch has failed after owning car for two weeks.
Dt*: the contact stated the brake lights and cruise control quit working suddenly without warning.there was a nhtsa recall, # 06v139000, regarding the exterior lighting: brake lights: switch. The vehicle was not included in the recall due to the vin.
- the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet colorado.the contact was driving 35 to 4o mphwhile attempting to stop the vehicleand the brakes made a soundlikemetal grinding on metal.while coming to a stop in 2006 she had to pump the brakes.as a result ,there was no grinding ,but the dealer said the antilock brake system was defective.the dealer said that if she purchased a warranty they would repair the brakes at no cost to the contact. Once the contact realized how unsafe the vehicle was she stopped using the vehicle, andwas currently driving a rental vehicle. There were no recalls listed on nhtsa website related to thisincident.the contactattempted to call the manufacturer, and was unsuccessful with her current request to gain financial assistance in the repair of the vehicle. The contact stated shereceived recall number 06v139000 onhapril26, 2006concerningexterior lighting:brake lights:switch.
The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet colorado. The contact stated that the brake light switch was replaced numerous times for a recurring failure. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number: 09v310000 (exterior lighting: brake lights: switch). The dealer replaced the switch under the recall but every 20,000 miles, the switch would fail again. The ac resistor wires were melted, causing the air conditioner to only operate on low. The dealer replaced the wiring harness and the resistor but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 20,000 and the current mileage was 130,000.
Was driving and was told by a passing vehicle that my brake lights were out, and when i asked which one , they replied all of them. Cruise control also would not work. Dealer fixed it saying the brake light switch was the cause.
The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet colorado. The contact stated the brake lights were inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the dealership where the contact was informed that the brake light switch would need to be replaced. There were no prior warnings and the vehicle was not serviced. The current and failure mileages were 84,000.
I was pulled over by a police officer telling me that i had no brake lights.i had just previously changed the bulbs, so i searched for alternate problems and located the recall no. 06v139000.i contacted my dealer and they told me that my vin # does not match the recall order.i contacted chevy owner support and they told me the same thing, that they could not find a recall for my vin # and there was nothing in the database showing a recall existed.
Chevy coloradoi had my truck for about 1 year.i had actually almost got killed on the highway due to the lights being out. *brake lights* .this is happening to many people i talk to.i think chevy needs to get there stuff together before people get killed and hurt over a relay switch not working properly.
Brake lights & cruise control quit working as described in nhtsa recall 06v139000 and gm recall 06030. Dealer did not repair under recall because the vin # did not match recall database. I think gm needs to expand recall to all who experience this problem.
Dt*: the contact stated the brake light on the vehicle is defective. The contact expressed there is a recall that addresses the defect. However, the chevrolet manufacturer determined the recall did not exist.
Brake lights have failed four times in 18 months. All dealer does is replace switch. The first time they failed i noticed 2 vehicles nearly rear ending me. Then someone told me i had no brake lights. Now i know brake lights are out when cruise control quits working. Gm wants to give $2,500 to trade vehicle but shouldn't they be required to fix problem. I can't trade without discussing this problem reducing my trade in value.
Dt*: the contact stated although there were no previous problems with the brake lights, there was a nhtsa recall, #06v139000 on the vehicle regarding the exterior lighting:brake lights:switch.the parts needed to repair the vehicle were not available at two local dealerships.the manufacturer was not alerted.

2004 colorado cruise control switch and brake lights was inoperable. Mechanic replaced the faulty brake switch which took care of the problem at the time. ***nar***after the above repair the consumer was notified that the brake lights had failed again.he also noticed that the cruise control has also ceased to function.the vehicle was taken back tot he dealer to be inspected.again the problem was diagnosed as a faulty brake switch.the consumer was told by one of the dealer's staff that corrosion had built up between the connector and socket for the brake switch until an electrical current failed to exist between the two.the problem recurred two more times.
The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet colorado. While driving 35 mph, the contact was informed by another driver that the rear brake lights were inoperable. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the brake light switch was replaced. He checked the fuses and the bulbs which seemed to be fully functional. He read related recalls (06v139000 & 09v310000) since they were related to his failure. The dealer confirmed that his vin was not included.he called the manufacturer and was also told that there was no related recall. The brake switch was repaired by the dealer.
I was almost rear ended today and the driver behind me came up to my window and told me that i had no brake lights, not even the center light. I have also noticed that i have no cruise control. The bulbs are new. I called the dealership and asked them if they have seen this problem and they said they haven't seen it on the colorado. I checked the internet and found several other owners who have experienced the same problem, they directed me to the nhtsa website where i found the other complaints. I told them that there is an internal investigation on the matter and they told me they would look at the truck for $95 but they would only fix the problem for free is there is a recall. The vehicle is a 2004 chevrolet colorado.
A friend who happened to be driving behind me made me aware of the fact that i had absolutely no brake lights.i have no idea as to the length of time that i have been driving around in this unsafe condition.i have had other vehicles tailgate me on several occasions, now i know why.although i am entering dec 16 05 as the incident date, this is the date it was first brought to my attention.i have no idea as to how long it was like this.i took it to the dealer on 12-19-05 and i left it there until they replaced my brake light switch on 12-20-05 (because they had to get one from another dealer).they said they have not received any information on this problem as to a recall, etc.this is a serious safety issue!!!i have read that others have this problem repeat and i pray that i don't get rear-ended or end up dead because of a faulty switch.i now will not let my wife drive it until a permanent fix is released, which i hope is very soon.thanks for your consideration.
Intermittent non working power door locks wipers headlights and windows!there are hundreds of these incidents posted online. There looks to be thousands of dollars in repairs with no solution!

I have a 2004 chevy colorado crew cab 4x4 with the z71 off road package. I ran over a stick about 3/4" to 1-1/2" in dia. And it broke the fuel line (that is pvc not metal). I think gm should look at this more closely as it is a major hazard on the road. I notified gm on monday 12-01-2008 and they said that, could not have happened. Well it did happen and if it happened to me i am sure it has before and will happen again. Please let me know how i should proceed with this major road safety hazard. Thank you, randy schmidt

1.with 860 miles on the odometer, an unknown object flipped up by the tires. Engine died with gasoline trailing behind the truck.the plastic piece connecting the plastic gas line to the plastic gas tank was cracked.3.it couldn't be fixed, as chevrolet and general motors did not have the part available anywhere.after 3 days traded it in for a nissan xterra to complete our thip.
When filling fuel tank, about a half cup of fuel comes spewing from filler neck due to improper venting. This is not only detrimental to our ecological system, it is a fire hazard waiting to happen.
After driving home i discovered that there was no key entry available from the passenger's side, no way to get in to help someone, rescue someone, and no way to escape some by getting into the truck.no one has been hurt yet.there were no warnings about the removal of the key lock from the pasengers door on the vehicle and no notification provided by the dealer.
Intermittent non working power door locks wipers headlights and windows!there are hundreds of these incidents posted online. There looks to be thousands of dollars in repairs with no solution!
The consumer's 2004 chevrolet colorado was not equipped with a key lock on the passenger side door.if the vehicle was locked and the driver's side door was blocked, it would become impossible to get into the pick-up.there was a key entry on the tail gate which was opened at all times. *sc

Gm is making all their vehicles with manual locks inaccessible from the outside on the passenger side.dealers are not telling consumers about this.if, as i did, you purchase a two door vehicle with manual locks, you must climb through the driver side to unlock the passenger side.this poses a great safety risk for women and children.the infant must be set down unattended (perhaps on hot pavement) while the mother climbs through to open the passenger door to place the infant in its child seat.the same can be said of a toddler who may wander into traffic during this activity.also police routinely tell women that if the vehicle is next to a suspect van in a parking lot, that they should enter on the passenger side.this is no longer possible.this also applies is someone just parks too close, you will not have access to your vehicle until the other vehicle is moved.i feel that these are viable safety concerns and the dealers (when questioned) state that they didn't realize you can't get in on the passenger side with a key.their only solution is to pay for electronic locks and the key fobs to operate them to the tune of nearly $800 for a 2-door vehicle.

When you slow to about 20 miles anhour and start to turn on a street it locks up some times. Have to rev it up and jerk on the wheel to free it up. On sat oct 1st 2011 i was traveling east on the interstate at about 75 mph when all of a sudden it felt like i had blown a tire. The steering became rather sluggish and i pulled over to the side of the road. I got out checked all the tires and they all looked ok, so i got back in the vehicle. My grandson and his friend were in the back seat it was a crew cab. I noticed that the 4wd indicator on the dash was onbut i had not switched it from 2wd it had done it on it's own . I tried to switch it back into 2wd but upon moving the vehicle it still felt like it was in 4wd. I decided to get the vehicle off the freeway so i could go slower and get the vehicle home, so i exited the fwy about a mile later and got on the old hwy where i could go 35 mph. My daughter was behind me in her car. About 5 miles down the road my daughter starts flashing her lights so i pulled over and she came running up and told me my vehicle was on fire , i ordered my grandson and his friend out of the truck we left immediately , and backed off about 200 feet, you could see smoke coming from under the vehicle and fire dripping from just above the transfer case below the front passengers floorboard area. Thefire spread and the vehicle became fully engulfed the tire melted the leather interior was completely vaporized needless to say it was a total loss. My theory is that the switching mechanism for the transfer case is defective it should not have switched on it's own at 75mph. I almost lost control of the vehicle when it did. That caused some kind of damage internally in the transfer case. When i drove the vehicle it heated up until it was red hot and caught the fuel filter on fire which eventually ruptured spread the fire and destroyed the vehicle.

2004 chevrolet colorado, new purchase, drove 568 miles engine idle eratically, engine light appeared and then engine stalled. Took to dealer and they reprogrammed computer, since that i lost 1.6 mpg and engine will not idle until vehicle came to complete stop.engine rpms do not drop between shifts like it did before reprogramming and vehicle lungeswhen clutch is released if not carefull orgive it extra time for the rpms to drop for a smooth engagement. And when you need to let off the gas pedal the car keeps going like you are still accelerating, especially in fourth gear, which can throw off timing and cause you to hit brakes to slow down or push clutch in to keep from going ahead at same speed until rpms fall, when i bought the vehicle, it did no of this , the dealer has made several attempts to correct but says the problem is with the gm program. And they can not do anything else for me.

As i was driving my 2004 chevrolet colorado, my transmission would not shift into over-drive.the check engine light flashed, but no message was shown on the message center.i took my truck to the local dealer.after talking to the service department yesterday, they informed me that there was a "small recall" for this type of problem (which from what they told me, involves some gaskets and pinsof some type).my truck is being repaired at no cost.but in checking your recall list, i found no colorado.is this something that everyone with this type of drive train should be made aware of?or is this such a minor issue, that a major notification is not warranted?

Immediately after purchasing a 2004 chevy colorado reg cab 5 cyl, i have experienced a noticeable vibration and rough ride. Dealership balanced my tires and tried temporarily swapping tires but the problem still exist. I also test drove another truck at the dealership that had the same vibration problem. It is verynoticeable on rough pavement regardless of speed, and at speeds around 45-55 intermittently on the highway. Feels like the rear end is not balanced. Back end shimmy's from side to side sending vibrations thriugh the truckmy dealership told me it is just the way the truck is designed and has been delaying fixing the problem now for two months. The rear end of my 2004 chevrolet colorado jammed while i was backing out of my driveway, causing the gears to shatter, the rear axle to crack, and the driveshaft to drop out of my truck. Since i bought the truck, i noticed vibrations and instability in the back of my truck, and sometimes the engine stays in 4wd when i shift out of it. The entire rear end of my truck has to be replaced, and gm is refusing to cover the repairs, even though the truck is under warranty. This was a very dangerousincident, and would have been worse if it had happened on the highway.
I have a 2004 chevrolet colorado 4wd extended cab truck that constantly vibrates at speeds of 30mph and 55-60mph.the truck shakes as if it is out of alignment or tires are unbalanced.i had the truck to the dealer a total of four times - twice for re-balancing the tires and once for a set of new tires.the dealership said that the tires were recalled because of cupping.but, the problem of vibrating or oscillating still exists.the dealership has been actually very helpful, but frustrated.i was told that this may be a defective driveshaft, which tells me this could be a dangerous situation.

Sometimes when braking the abs will come on till the vehicle stops, and the abs warning light comes on till you turn the car off.when the car is restarted the warning light is off till the abs comes on again mostly when coming to a slow rolling stop,ie.red light ,stop sign. I have talked to other owners of this vehicle who are having the same problem.
I have had to have the emergency brake cable replaced twice due to poor engineering.the cable has a klew that transfers from one cable to two cables and that is located directly underneath the driver's side door, in the direct line of fire from road debris that comes off of the front tire.i have already had it replaced twice.the poorly designed cable easily seizes up from excessive dirt and corrosion getting inside the cableand it becomes no longer safe to operate.it is a manual transmission vehicle, so not having an operating cable brake is not a small problem.
For several years i had problems with my engine light, abs light, and brake light intermittently coming on. When these lights would come on, the antilock brakes would sometimes prematurely engage, dangerously vastly increasing the stopping distance. The vehicle was reacting as if the wheels were locking up, so it was prematurely engaging the antilock. This happened mostly on dry pavement during light breaking. I could feel and hear the antilock pulsing the petal releasing the brake pressure. I couldn't get good braking, even when i pushed the brake pedal to the floor.i took my car to a gm authorized service center/dealership to have it diagnosed and repaired. Despite several trips to the service center, replacing many parts and spending about $2000, the problems continued. It wasn't until after i wrote an angry letter to the dealership management that they replaced a vehicle speed sensor which solved the problem. It was aggravating because i had to pay extra for antilock features when i bought the vehicle. The antilock feature was supposed to improve safety, but ended up being very dangerous. If i would've had a wreck because of the bad brakes, the government would have likely held me liable, for an expensive and dangerous problem that they had created. The government had pressured the automotive industry to include expensive antilock brakes that were complicated, unreliable and dangerous. Intermittently, it would take 3 to 5 times more stopping distance than legacy brakes without antilock. Conventional legacy brakes i could have fixed myself. With antilock brakes; propriety diagnostic equipment was required, so i was dependent on gm authorized service; which was very expensive and did a lousy job.
I bought the truck new in 2004. It has no mechanical problems or rust. The issue is that about 5-6 inches of the frame in front of the drivers side rear spring shackle has been rusted away and the shackle has been pushed up toward the bed. The abs fault light and brake lights come on periodically because of the shifting of the rear axle. Chevrolet said they can't do anything because the truck is too old and too many miles. Only 10 years old and less than 100,000 miles. It has been garaged and i don't see why there is so much rust on the frame. I have had trucks with way more miles and a decade older with less rust than this one. I would like to see chevrolet stand behind this vehicle and do something about it. I can't drive it safely anymore. It has been a great truck and i would hate to lose it. Is there anything that can be done to make chevrolet do something? i would certainly hope so.
After taking my 2004 colorado to a mechanic for a brake repair he informed me i had rust so bad on the frame it created hole and he recommended i no longer drive my truck also he cannot repair the brakes and the abs sensor because of the rust. I purchase the truck 2 1/2 years ago from a chevy dealer and still owe money on a vehicle i can't drive.only 135428 miles.
Abs kick in when vehicle is cold in the morning, then disable along with an abs fault light on the instrument panel, then goes away in the afternoon. The abs kicks in and the brake pedal will not go down.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet colorado. The contact stated that the anti-lock braking system was not working properly and would exhibit an abnormal grinding noise. The noise was heard when the vehicle was first started and would remain for several minutes afterward. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that no failures were found and offered no assistance. The manufacturer was notified who stated that there were no recalls for the failure and offered no additional assistance. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 60,000.updated 01/02/2013*ljupdated 1/4/2013
Periodic abs system failure occurring while driving and applying the brakes. Has been afailure for four yearsmade efforts to remedy the problem by calling them and no satisfaction.i've asked other colorado owners and they said they have this problem in the 05, 06..i hit into a school bus.
Abs fault light went on. Turned off engine, restart, light off. Goes on and off randomly.
My abs fault light is coming on and the brakes are grinding as though i am sliding across an icy road. I just put on new brake pads at a dealership in march and no one mentioned that i had a problem. From what i heard the problem can be pulling the abs plug or spending thousands at a dishonest dealership. It is very dangerous and i have read on forums that this abs fault issue is a wide spread serious one. I love my truck and it has lot of mileage but this was going to be a problem on my chevy colorado no matter what so it seems to me this should have been a recall.

Abs brake failure.abs activates during normal operation of vehicle breaking, pedal gets hard and or vibrates, brakes still work but you must apply very hard force to pedal.vehicle is a 2004 chevy colorado with only 30,000 miles.this has been occurring on and off for about three to four months. It appears that it becomes worst during wet humid weather, and when turning and braking at the same time. Occurrences have increased in frequency from a couple of time a week to several times a week.i had not taken the vehicle into mechanic to be checked yet, but will soon.also abs fault light came on a couple times and stayed on until vehicle was shut off, and restarted much later, at which time the light reset. This has occurred a couple of different times during the last two months.
Speed sensor in the wheel hub assembly goes bad. This causes the abs to stop working properly.

Purchased 2004 chevy colorado sport with lowered suspension in may 2004. The brake system has never been 100%. It will vary in degrees of pressure required to adequately slow down, or even stop the vehicle. It has been in to the dealer three times and each time they state nothing is wrong. The brakes also squeal with less than 9,800 miles on it and they state this normal. There have been several times we were driving and i attempted to stop the truck and it would either jerk very harshly or would require excessive peddle pressure to stop. I have driven two other exact same models and years and they do not have the problem, there for this vehicle is faulty. Last attempt to solve issue resulted in very rude service manager giving me gm phone # and basically telling me off and to leave dealership to contact them. I will never purchase a gm vehicle again and will be claiming a lemon law right on this one.
After driving vehilce a short distance from the house, the abs system activated as if on a slick surface as i braked to stop at stop sign.i eventually had to press extremely hard on brake pedal to stop my vehicle before stop sign.the trucks abs fault light immediately showed up on the dash along with the abs light.during short drive to work, the abs fault message continued to show.after restarting the truck after work, the same process of abs activating as if on slick surface and warning message showed.
The abs on my '04 colorado is activating at low or medium speeds without applying the brake. If traveling at slow speed, as in a parking lot, abs will be activated almost constantly. This is very annoying and can actually be a safety hazard when attempting to come to a normal stop.
I have not had an accident as of yet with this problem.the problem is wheel lockup when applying the brakes. It throws the passengers forward violently.i've had the brakes checked and the rotors and liningsare fine.but in use they are not.the fear of lockup makes you overcautious and late in braking.the problem is worst when first driving the car but continues on and is a serious hazard.it is related to moisture but is more severe than anything i've experienced in my driving history.this needs to be corrected by a forced recall.my auto is 2004 chevy colorado pickup
No crashes or injuries yet. My complaint is about the abs wheel sensor on my 2004 chevrolet colorado 4x4 ls z71. It is not functioning correctly. After i start the truck the abs light will come on with a tone plus a message in the d.i.c. "abs fault". I have discussed this problem with my local chevrolet dealer. They have informed me that my abs wheel sensor is not working properly. As far as i can tell that means that my abs brakes (safety feature) is not working. My truck is up for inspection in february 2009. I'm pretty sure that it will not pass because of this problem. My truck has less then 44,000 miles as of today. I asked my local dealer on a rough estimate on fixing the problem. They informed me that it would be in the $700-$800 range. Yes, my warranty is up. But i feel that this problem is more of a safety issue. The abs is a safety feature on all newer vehicles today. I could not purchase this truck without this feature. Therefore sense i did not have the option to purchase the truck without abs. I feel that general motors should take responsibility to fix the problem.

Brake and gas pedal are to close together for people with larger feet.i wear a size 13 shoe and when i wear my hiking boots, i have about 1/4" clearance between the right side wall and the brake pedal,my foot continually catches on the brake pedal.i am looking into moving the brake pedal to the left or putting on a new pad to give more room in between the brake and the side wall.
The brake pedal in this vehicle is too close to the accelerator, creating a limited space for your foot.on more than one occasion my foot was impinged under the edge of the brake pedal when i attempted to remove my foot from the accelerator to brake.i feel that one may not be able to access the brake quickly in a panic stop situation.

I had new tires installed on my truck.the original tires seemed to wear unevenly on the inside tread.i had my alignment checked and it was good.i have my tires rotated every 6000 miles.the technician that inspected my vehicle said that the tie rods were worn out. He said that was the third colorado that he had seen in the last week with worn tie rods.he said that this seemed unusual to him that they would wear so fast.i have been contemplating whether to pay for the repair or see if a recall is issued on this vehicle.tie rods should not wear out at 40000 miles.
The wind noise is absolutely unbearable. After you get up to 40 mph and close the windows it souinds like a tornadp inside the truck, and this should not be. Called the reginal rep and was told that is the way it is and there is nothing they can do about it.

I took this colorado 4 door vehicle to the dealership yesterday for scheduled "detail" work, and they discovered the cabin carpeting to be saturated with liquid and mold growing on the underside of the carpeting with free flowing "water" under the carpet throughout the entire floor front to back of the cabin. I have not driven the vehicle for several months because i currently am healing froma knee injury, but i noticed yesterday that there was condensation on the inside of the windshield when i drove it to the dealership. Only two dealerships owned the vehicle prior to my purchase of the vehicle from the second dealership owner in 2005, and it has been under good care by me. I was not aware of the wet carpet when i took it for the detail work yesterday; i had a rubber mat under my feet. The vehicle has always had rubber matting front and back. When the dealership reported to me yesterday the wet conditions described above, i researched the internet and discovered that there is documentation related to this issue that has beendetermined to be a structural defect in the colorado. Other than this problem, the vehicle is in outstanding condition.

I currently own a 2004 chevrolet colorado miles are 107,650.my truck is in very good to excellent shape, i take pride in my vehicles.the issue i have is my frame is rotten and cracked at the leaf spring hangers, much to my surprise when i jacked my truck up to change over tires and the rear axle stayed on the ground. Im very grateful we caught this before the right side broke away like the left side did. I do live in maine and they use products on the roads for ice, but my fuel and brake lines are in very good serviceable condition, as is most everything under the truck including the bed. I have been looking for guidance and stumbled onto some "forums" that state first gen colorado this is common. I am not a forum member, nor do i believe in "internet shaming" i amloyal gm customer, but i it is very disappointing that i have a relatively low mileage truck with a great drive train, and no exterior rust that is completely unsafe and unusable.it sounds like a similar issue that toyota hadive had and do currently have older gm vehicles with more miles and the frames are in excellent shape.is gm/chevrolet doing anything to help consumers?
Entire frame of truck rusted and cracked through. When looking on the internet this has happened to multiple 2004 colorados. Vehicle was parked when i noticed the frame hanging in the back.

I want to know how chevy could allow such a tragic mistake on the metal used for this vehicle? i am not the only person who has had this issue with the frames on these vehicle?. It is all i have to drive and i am putting chevy under warning!, this is a defect in the metal you have used. If anything happens to me or anyone else they are to sue chevy. This is not a problem not caused by buyer. This is caused by cheap metals for vehicle. This is my first supposedly made in usa vehicle and now it has left a bad taste in my mouth. I am not going to be held responsible for your defect. I am not the only one with this problem. It needs to be taken care of asap.
The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet colorado. While having the tires changed, the mechanic stated that the frame was rusted out. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000. The vin was not available. Updated 11/02/17*ljconsumer stated car cannot be driven updated 7/19/18
I have a 2004 chevy colorado with 132,000 miles on it. I was driving my truck doing about 25 mph when i couldn't drive it anymore. Upon inspection the truck had a hole in the frame. I had to have the truck towed by to my home. This truck shouldn't have this problem yet. I hear this is a problem with several colorado owners.
The frame has rust holes through it that suddenly appeared the last three months.the dealer that have always gone to says the car cannot be worked on. Everything looks like perfect condition except the frame has rusted away.
I have water leaking into the cab onto my drivers side floorboard right next to the kick panel.i have tried to fix it using tsb bulletin no: 04-08-57-004a from august 2006.the problem has not been resolved and the problem is still the same.
The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet colorado. While driving 15 mph, the vehicle shook excessively without warning. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and noticed that the entire frame was fractured. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 53,000.
The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet colorado. The contact discovered that the undercarriage of the vehicle was severely corroded. The contact expressed concern that the corrosion centered around the suspension and subframe spring mounts. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed by a dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 134,000.
Frame has rusted out to the point that it is unrepairable, vehicle has 92000 miles good condition everywhere else. This is quite a common problem with colorados. It will not pass safety standards, quite honestly it is a very dangerous situation that many people are experiencing with these vehicles. It seems odd that toyota was forced to replace frames due to poor quality and rust issues yet these colorados are just as bad.
The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet colorado. While driving various speeds, the frame of the vehicle fractured. The contact heard a loud popping noise on more than one occasion, which indicated that the frame had come apart. Mid-state chevrolet buick of sutton west virginia (1947 sutton lane, 26601) was made aware of the failure and stated that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and referred the contact to nhtsa. The failure mileage was 167,000. *ln
The frame is rotting out--i've had to have it repaired--welded--each of the last three years after failing inspection or being told it would. Suspension attachment areas, under and around shackles, cab mounts, long sections of primary frame from front to rear.
Vehicle has 96,800 miles, and the frame has completely rusted through causing the rear suspension to detach from the frame, as well as the bed to detach from the frame.vehicle is no longer able to be put on lift to have tires rotated as the frame disintegrates upon contact.this is a very well known problem, and i am curious why the federal government has not forced gm to recall these vehicles like toyota was forced to do with their identical situation.do your jobs, and hold these corporations accountable for cheap workmanship.
Water leaking into cab of 2004 chevrolet colorado, per dealer this would not be covered, talked to local gmc dealer they stated this was a problem with this same model but (gmc) and have fixed numberes pickups. They fixed the pickup and charged me $780.00 for this repair
Vehicle is in great condition. Frame is rotted through where the cab meets the bed. So much that the frame bent and the bed is up against the cab
The frame has alot of rust plus the frame is cracked and the back, the engine light is on you can not get a response from thepluging unit. Whe you to check the problem.
During a visit to the mechanic for a routine brake job on may 17, 2017, the mechanic refused to work on my 2004 chevrolet colorado due to safety issues involving the rust on the frame. I was turned away and given a receipt with the following in the "notes" section: "-vehicle is completely unsafe to drive - frame is rusted throughout truck, and where the driver side leaf spring is welded to the frame, it has fractured off. Any small bump / accident / shutter could break what is left off, and the rear axle will come detached from the vehicle at the point - customer has been informed." this truck has spentonly 12 years on the east coast of the us and the mechanic blamed the road salt for the rust. The body and interior of this truck are very clean and i have always taken great care of it. This frame rust is not my fault and have seen many more complaints and similar examples of this same year / make and model of this vehicle's frame rusting problem doing a simple google search.
The frame under the cab is rusted out
I went to install brakes when the mechanic noticed the jounce bumber missing, but when he looked closer he noticed it was rotted. The jounce buper bracket is part of the frame and it completely rotted out. I called gm and they inspected it and they said there is nothing they could do. I said toyota replaced all the chasis rotting out in the state of massachusetts, this would be the same the salt brine is rooting out frames and this vehicle is no longer safe. They will not even buy it back. I need your help.
My 2004 colorado frame is rust through near the drive side leaf spring causing the spring to roll inward toward the center of the truck.
The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet colorado. While the gear shifter was placed in reverse, the shift linkage failed and the shift cable snapped. The vehicle was taken to west chevrolet at (865) 970-9378 (3450 alcoa hwy, alcoa, tn 37701) where the shift cable was replaced. Upon further inspection, the dealer noticed that the frame was rusted and corroded. The contact was informed that the vehicle was unsafe to drive and that the frame needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. The failure mileage was 115,440.
The frame cracked between the cab and the bed on the passenger side. The top of bed is now hitting against the cab at the top. I called gm twice, and they will do nothing about it. They told me to take it in to a dealer for inspection. I told them i don't feel it's safe to drive. They said to tow it in at my cost. I'm not paying for something that is obvious. The truck needs a new frame and they know it. I'm not the only one with this same problem, just read all the blogs on the internet.
A 2004 chevy colorado z71 off-road package extended cab with 76000 miles and the underneath of the truck is is completely rotted out my frame broke rate at the back of the extended cab in the other side has a gaping hole in it the bodies in excellent shape no rust on it.

In 2016, i purchased a used 2004 chevy colorado. This year (2017) my daughter noticed excessive rust on the underside of the vehicle. Upon the next oil change, we were told that the frame was completely rotted and cracked in several places. We were then referred to a welding company, who said that it could be repaired for $4,000. We got a second opinion, who said that this repair was not worth it. We were then referred to a place that would completely replace the frame, but are waiting on a price.
The frame of the vehicle has cracked on both sides of the vehicle at the joint between the cab and the bed. I noticed this break after going under the vehicle to change a parking break cable. The truck did not undergo any off-road terrain nor serious bumps since being purchased. (used only on highway and typically paved roads) the truck has minimum rust on the body and has been well maintained since being purchased new in 2004.
I have a 2004 colorado, with a very clean body, but my frame is totally rusted with holes near the rear leaf spring mounts.chevrolet should be responsible for this!! i have read many complaints about these truck frames rotting!!
Water leak from driver's side door.
Problems with door locks on 2004 chevrolet colorado.*mrseveral hours after the truck was delivered the consumer discovered that there was only one key access to the vehicle on the driver's side.there was no key lock on the passenger side.someone has to unlock the driver's side door then crawl over to unlock the passenger side door from the inside.the dealer was informed and told the customer that the vehicle was delivered from the factor that way.
Drivers door hitting bottom rear of door jam, repaired and painted under warrntya.pasengers door not closing without slamming. Rear door rehung and front door rehung and close ok but there is a 3/32 inch gap at the bottom in between the doors and a 3/8 inch gap at the top. The dealer says that is ok and i should accept it since the doors work of. I do not agree and feel that if that is as good as it gets that the vehicle was bent, racked, torqued during manufacture or transport.
The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet colorado.the contact stated that when he opened the tailgate, the cable failed and the tailgate would not remain open.the dealer did not inspect the vehicle, however, they stated that there was a recall for the cable.there was no recall listed on the nhtsa website.as of august 3, 2007, the vehicle has not been repaired.the current and failure mileages were 75,000.updated 02-01-08.the consumer stated both cables were failed at the same time and dealer replaced both cablesat 8/10/07 at n/c. Bed is against the cab dealer has told me unsafe to drive and will not do anything about this because it passed maryland safety inspection in may before i bought truck. Still making payments on truck i cannot drive.

Vehicle causing excessive tread wear on inside of tire, exists on multiple sets of tires.tread worn completely through, exposing inner layers of tire.if not noticed when it was there was a risk of complete failure for all 4 tires.manufacturer refused to make adjustments to vehicle after first 4 tires failed (30k miles), continues to refuse service after next 4 showing same problem (15k miles).

The frame of the truck rotted and is no longer driveable without a chance of an accident. The pa inspection is about to run out also and will not pass inpection. I bought this truck used and just paid it off and was hoping i was clear of any vehicle payments. At this point there is no way i will even get close to what i paid for it as it is only good for scrap. I agree with another post i saw on here that said if toyota had to recall their vehicles for the same reason then why does gm not have to do the same thing? it only seems right. I know they have heard of this issue but are just trying to brush it under the rug hoping it doesn't come up. Hoping you have our back on this with trying to protect the consumer.
Frame is broken on both rails between cab and box, also cracked above rear leaf spring purch, wherever welds are present frame rusted into
Severe rust / rot on the frame both on the main frame as well as the front frame work to the point that a salvage yard declared it unsafe to drive. Discovered when i had to replace the rear differential which also snapped due to rust.

Todays date is 04/20/2013 #1-wheel alignment front to back, where rear passenger side tire sticks out from body. #2- this is my forth set of tires because of alignment problems.#3-rear tail lights seem to be burned out, they are not it a poor socket problem, i lube with electrical grease.i can't believe that they are introducing the market withmaking more of the problems for the new line 2014 and beyond.this is the worst chevrolet i ever owned the 2004 colorado. I have owned 14 chevys, will chevys be in my future?

The truck has a very rotted frame on it. Seems to be of poor quality and with only120,000 miles and the body is in super condition this should not be happening..is there any thing to be done, will chevrolet do anything at all to help?are we all stuck with this problem as others on line have complained of this.thanks.
The frame has alot of rust plus the frame is cracked and the back, the engine light is on you can not get a response from thepluging unit. Whe you to check the problem.
2004 colorado 2wd have had to replace front tires for wear on inside treads 2 or 3 times since the truck has been purchased. Was told this was a chevrolet problem, as a result of the incorrect front sum toe. Tires on back last 4 times as long as ones on front. Have had front end looked at several times. Now it is very noticeable in the driving of the truck. Truck has not been off the highway since purchase. Strictly pavement use. No wrecks or hits to cause front end damage.
I have a 2004 colorado, 4 wheel drive, 4 door. 32,000 miles. Dec 2005 i noticed that the inside of my front tires were worn. I checked the back and they were worn too. I had just had the truck inspected in sept. I took it to the dealer and he gave me a speech on how to drive my truck. I replaced all 4 tires in may 2006. Then again in sept 2007 and i need new again jan 2009. Same problem and the front end won't stay in alignment. They keep telling me there's nothing wrong. When your front end goes out of alignment a month after it's put in there's a problem!
Dt: the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet colorado. The contact states that gm specifies a front end alignment can go on a camber from 0.5 negative to .5 positive. He took the vehicle to a dealership one side was .2 negative the other side .3 negative. The tires on the vehicle where to a pointwhere this could blow out a tire. The dealership was telling him that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. The problem began a few weeks ago.gm refused to replacetire under warranty. He took the vehicle to a goodyear service center, and the technicianput the vehicle onalignment machine and they set up all the diagonals. The techniciantold him it should not have damaged his tires, but he had a load on his vehicle. The load and the vehicle resulting inpoor handling of the vehicle. They kept telling him that this occurred because of lack of tire rotation.the contact maintainedthis had nothing to do with problem.damagejust occurred to the two front tires on the vehicle. He said that there waspoor front end specification with a load on the vehicle. He was a certified mechanic.

Dt: contact states the tireshave no traction, causing the vehicle to slide.
Dt: contact statedvehicle came off of the assembly line misaligned. Shehad to replace one tire at her expense. The first tire to blow out was the rear driver's side tire on 6-11-05 whiledriving20 mph, goinguphill.the second time tire blew out while drivingon the highway at 65 mph. She said the car felt as if it was floating. Consumertook vehicle to the garage and they told her the car came off of the assembly line misaligned. They replaced another tire at their expense. The dealership told consumerthey would reimburse her for the first tire. The manufacturer offered her an extended warranty. She is stillwas concerned withsafety. They told her they may have to replace the other two tires at the dealership's expense. Also on 6-6-05 the check engine light kept coming on. The dealership replaced valve springs, per bulletin.the front axle seals andfront shocks were defective, and they replaced the front and rear shocks. This service was performed on 6-23 and 6-24-05. On 6-29-05 the check engine light came back on. She says the car felt like it was floating. She took it back in 7-7-05 and they had to replace a bracket for the squealing belt. On 7-13-05 she took it for a six mile round trip and the check engine light came on and the truck smelled like it was burning. She took it back on 7-14-05. They said they did not know what was wrong, and they would have to consult with thegm engineers.

Some mornings my 04 colorado stalls out and bogs down. Push the gas bogs down and goes nowhere. It doesn't matter the temp outside. It does it. Its not an everyday event. Just some mornings, and when the truck has been sitting more than 8 hours. I've changed the fuel filter, put lucas fuel treatment. Every small repair i've done. Dealer said when it acts up they will try and fix it. But of course you cant replicate the problem for them to see. Want to know what can be causing this. I've seen there has been alot of incidents of engine problems. From what i've read. Some of these problems with other peoples colorado's, are happening too. Is there anything that can be done about this threw y'all? i have 60,000 miles on my truck i shouldn't be having problems. Any cost free maintenance from gm?
Noticed severely rusted frame on 2004 chevy colorado just in front of leaf springs both sides of vehicle. Driver side more severe as part has rolled into frame. Pictures attached.
I have recently realized that my 2004 chevrolet colorado with under 140,000 miles has a severely rotted out frame. The body on my truck is in great condtion and has been kept in fantastic condition. The frame has multiple fist sized holes in the frame and i am learning that i am not the first person to be faced with this problem. With that being said repairs for this issue which would include replacing the frame have been quoted between $9,000-$15,000. I truly believe this should be a safety recall to protect the traveling public especially because i am sure there are other colorado owners out there who are not aware of their problem. Thank you.
The frame is rotted needs replaced or its gonna get me killed it the only truck i have i still owe $9000 on it please help me thanks
Noticed the frame is rotting out and needs to get fixed before it causes a serious accident and possibly death .it was sitting still when notice
We took the truck out for a ride and noticed some noises that were unusual, put the truck on the lift and found that the frame has rotted out. Talked with gm, they requested we take it to gm service to have it checked out, which we did and it has been noted that the truck is unsafe to drive, due to the rotted frame. Placed a call back to gm and all we heard was that we did not purchase the extended warranty and without that there was nothing they could do. This vehicle has 71k for miles and has been well maintained, one owner.
Rear doors locks continue to lock and unlock while in motion. Safety hazzard to both children personal sitting in rear seats. Child could open door during traveling and fall out. This serious problem may cause the death an individual child or person if the door handle is pulled and the rear door opens while in motion?this is happening all of the time while in motion? it has happened every time the vehicle is in motion. Day or night.
The frame on the passenger side just under the extended can is cracked, and the frame just behind extended can driver side is completely rotted out to the point the leaf spring mount is collapsing into the frame.
The frame has alot of rust plus the frame is cracked and the back, the engine light is on you can not get a response from thepluging unit. Whe you to check the problem.
The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet colorado.the contact cannot place a rear facing child safety seat in the vehicle and cannot turn off the front passenger side air bag.the owner's manual states that there is a key to turn off the air bag, which does not exist in his vehicle.he was informed off the record that he should either cut the wire or disable the fuse.he believes the vehicle should be recalled and repaired.the current mileage was 98,863 and the failure mileage was 98,833. I sold this truck last spring with 243,829 on the odometer, it is now for sale with 155,000 on it
The frame is rotting out--i've had to have it repaired--welded--each of the last three years after failing inspection or being told it would. Suspension attachment areas, under and around shackles, cab mounts, long sections of primary frame from front to rear.
I bought a 2004 chevy colorado feb. 11, 2006 with 47,262 miles on it from the local chevy dealer.it is now july 21, 2006 and i will be taking it in to the shop for the 10th time.so far this is what has gone wrong:head light seal leaking, front grill missing factory clips, ac fan housing has bad factory mold so there is a "ticking" when running the ac, ac switch resister went out and replaced three weeks ago has now gone bad again, roof bows were bent enough that caused the roof sheet metal to pop up and down when windows were down at highway speed, rear fold down seats have jammed and will not release from rear cab wall, b-pilar trim will not stay on, i had to replace the fuel filter and o2 (oxygen) sensor two months ago, and now as of this date, july 21, 2006, the rear right passenger window will not go down.
Heater blower mortor stoped working 3 times resistor 2 times and still don't word dealer charge me 280.00 and want to just change parts hope you can help.
I own a 2004 chevy colorado extended cab. This truck has 110,xxx miles on it. The problem is the frame on the vehicle, it broke in 2 pieces where the cab meets the bed. The frame is completely rusted and ruined. There are a lot of forums online with people with the same issue in the same spot of the frame. It is very unsettling knowing even if i dont drive this truck again another chevy colorado on the highway could rip in 2 peices causing an accident due to the faulty frame on these trucks. This is an obvious issue that chevy will not address. When my frame broke into 2 pieces inward driving down the road. The bed came free on the driver side and smashed in the back corner of my cab. Luckily i was not on the high way because if i was it would have caused an accident. I hope chevy makes right by this.
The main frame formed cracks on both the driver and passenger side of the truck. Causing the bed to hit the cab. The truck could break in half if a bump is hit.
Brake lamp switch assembly was recalled in 2006 and replaced.28,000 miles later the brake light switch assembly has again failed.this has caused the brake lights and cruise control to again malfunction.additionally, the reverse lights have failed and the fuse continues to fail.
I bought a 2004 chevrolet colorado, which has a problem with the engine revving up in park to about 2500 rpms when at a normal temperature. It will then come down to a normal rpms, and start idling very rough. This problem has caused my truck to be in the shop 4 times already and nothing has been done to solve it. The second time it went in they, the chevrolet dealership, changed out the manifold and catalytic convertor, but since then nothing else can be done and now the problem is happening while the vehicle is in drive and it causes the vehicle to lunge forward.
While pulling into a parking space my foot was on the brake pedal. As i was putting the gear shift into park the truck lunged forward hitting a concrete post and building. Air bags deployed causing injury to driver on both arms and stomach. Truck is to be repairedas there is front end damage from crash.
As i was driving i noticed my speed control wasn't working. Once i arrived at my destination i researched this issue online and found that others also had problems with the brake lights when this happened. So, i went out to check my brake lights and they are non responsive.
Dt*: the contact stated the brake lights and cruise control quit working suddenly without warning.there was a nhtsa recall, # 06v139000, regarding the exterior lighting: brake lights: switch. The vehicle was not included in the recall due to the vin.
The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet colorado. The brake lights and cruise control have both failed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and repaired according to recall #06v139000 (exterior lighting:brake lights:switch). The failure resurfaced, but she was ineligible for a free remedy. She was awaiting a response from the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 63,200.
Driving from dealer to my house after buying truck the brake lights, wipers, horn, cruise control all stopped working at same time.
Owned this 2004 colorado ext.cab 4x4 since new. * again * blower motor controller on a/c quit workingon speeds 1,2,3 still works on "high" 4. This is the 3rd failure since new, and i've had to pay for repairs twice already. According to reports on internet problem is with resistor module that controls the speed of the blower. Spoke to two difference gm dealers, and he advised that the problem was with the module overheating and causing the plug to melt and cause the resistor pack to become inoperable. No warranty on part according to gm dealer.this is a manufacturer defect and safety hazard that could cause risk of fire, injury or death.this issue needs to be covered under a recall or some program to protect consumers from paying to repair the same defective part or system over and over again !
Blower fan works intermittently. Ocassional smell of burnt wires. Finally stopped working on settings 1,2 and 3, will only work on setting 4. This seems to be a common problem on the chevy colorados that gm will not acknowledge.
I noticed my floor was soaking wet after a long rain...i checked the windows and doors to make sure they were not left open...my truck leaks somewhere from within. My buddy said it is probably the firewall...now my truck smells like mildew and continues to leak,im afraid it might mold and cause me or my family to get sick.the windows always fog up as a result of the dampness, making it harder to see at night.
The switch which controls the fan speed for the heat and a/c quit working. The fan only works when the it is set on high.
Consumer complained about adefroster problem.when the temperature reached 20 degrees or lower the defroster will not clear the windshield, making visibility very difficult. Consumer contacted the manufacturer, who stated that this was the way vehiclewas designed, and there was nothing else they could do.
Driver's side defroster does not operate properly. This causes poor visibility when drivingin inclement conditions. Vehicle has been to the dealer, anddealer was unable to correct the problem.
On a 2004 colorado pu, the hvac blower control has failed twice since end of warranty requiring expensive out of pocket payments.one dealer even explained the problem was related to "overheating a resistor" or some such technical blather.in any case, when the failure occurs the hvac fan only blows high or not at all.a total of over $500 was paid on two failures.
Blower motor speed control for ac heater lost 3 of 4 speeds. Only high speed works. New part #15238515 is $400.00 plus labor. Will try to replace with a used part. Vehicle has 39,500 miles. 2004 chevy colorado 5 cyl. Auto.
A/c heater resistor and plastic conector arc and catches fire.
Rear glass started letting water leak inside of truck cab, molding on roof started to peel up
Driver's side window makes loud squealing and window skips when moving up and down (electric windows). Drivers door panel buldges when window is at top of it's travel. Have had at chevrolet dealer 4 times for repair, problem still there. With the window being on a bind (door buldging) there is a danger on the window breaking when rolling window up to top of travel.told by chevrolet they would not warranty this problem any longer and that i would have to live with it.

Noticed an 'off' odor from vehicle after it sat overnight throughout the fall. As vehicle is typically operated with windows down during the temparate months i thought nothing of it. Once the weather changed and vehicle was being operated with the windows up i started to feel ill with respiratory distress / tighness in the chest and throat each time i operated the vehicle. When retreiving an item from the floor i noticed a very distinct strong odor of mildew. I felt the carpets and they were damp to the touch. Feeling under the carpet i found the padding saturated from the firewall to the rear of the cab. Dealer found that the seam between the cowl and cab was never sealed at the factory causing water to drain into the cab's floorpan.dealer had specialist come and locate/repair the leaks in the front and rear of the cab. Dealer's invoice states that the interior was removed and carpets de-odorized. Upon picking up the vehicle the distinct odor of mildew contamination remained. Dealer stated that it is not manufacturer's policy to replace the damaged carpeting/interior materials except for the padding. Shampooing of the remaining materials does not remove mildew contamination from the rest of the interior. Have petitioned manufacturer and dealer to please address concerns due to the severe health consequences. Response has still been that they can only shampoo it when i smell something.manufacturer is unwilling to readily/completely repair consequential damages caused by a covered and acknowledge manufacturing defect. For sensitive individuals the resulting mold/mildew contamination can have serious heath consequences. Injuries: respiratory distress / tighness in the chest and throat(al
