The consumer request that the air bags in her 2005 chevrolet cavalier be disconnected.the consumer received a doctor not to have the air bag removed.the consumer presented the note to the dealer who in turn faxed the note to the manufacturer.the manufacturer still refused to allow the dealer to disconnect the air bag.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier. While driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle crashed and the passenger side air bag failed to deploy. It was unknown if there were any injuries or if a police report was filed. The air bag warning indicators illuminated continuously. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the air bags needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The failure mileage was 112,000.

Daughter was driving to go to another location when stopped for light. Light turned green had some one in front of her and since it is a stick shift she just let the car roll. She panicked i think and hit clutch instead of brake. She rolled into the back of the suv ahead of her and the airbags exploded in the car. She was only going 4 miles an hour. No damage to the carin front of her no front damage to our car except the air bags and breakage of front window. Daughter was hit in face by airbag and the fingers cut withwith the windowbreaking. She has received 2 black eyes and said she was very disoriented when the airbag hit her. We are very concerned about this. We have had the car for 3 years and have not been in any accidents fontal wise. I went through to see if we had a carfax on this car. The company told that there had not been in any accidents. My concern is that if i was driving the car i am short and with it being a clutch i have to sit close. So i really would have been hurt. Why would the airbags explode at only 4 miles an hour? please respond soon as thishas to be taken care of for the insurance. Thank you.

Please call about these problems with these cars, [xxx] is how i think anything will get done, just called today 02-20-15. Gas gauge went out 02-07-15 ( mileage 40000) and is hitting against my temp gauge so i don't know how hit my car is getting. I replaced my temp gauge back in 01-07-12 mileage(29111) cause it was hitting against my speedometer<--- this was not replaced but i dont think till this day it shows the right speed. Air bags did not work back in 2006 crash no fault of the car then, someone hit me, so dont even know if they will. Called gm about that in 2012 and told me there was nothing that could be done. Forgot to tell kimmy about this problem today. Good luck getting these problems fixed. I have to drive my kids and family around only car i have so i hope something is fixed before we get hurt. And i hope for the ones that fixed these repairs get there money back if they find it to be a issue..information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

My daughter was involved in an accident. She rear ended another vehicle on a rain slick road.there were no injuries although she is now in the process of having her sore neck evaluated by a doctor.she was the only occupant in her vehicle (2005 chevy cavalier).the passenger airbag deployed with enough force to break the windshield.the driver side airbag deployed but did not inflate properly.upon inspection, it is apparent that a hole in the airbag (about the size of a quarter) is the reason the airbag did not work properly.obviously, the failure of the driver side airbag is the reason for this complaint.

Takata recall air bags did not deploy in a rear end collision that totalled car. Also passengers seat broke causing neck and rib injury.vehicle was stationary waiting for construction flagman.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier. The contact owns a 2009 chicco keyfit 30 child restraint seat, model number 05-07903-7200070, manufactured 10/01/2009. The child was secured in a rearfacing infant child restraint seat equipped with a sun visor. The plastic tubing within the sun visor fabric slipped out and the child inserted the long plastic tubing inside of the mouth. The child sustained scratches to the face during the handling of the plastic tubing. The child restraint seat was installed with the latch system. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The vin and failure mileage were unknown.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier. While driving at an unknown speed, the speedometer displayed an incorrect reading. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The technician diagnosed that the stepper motor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that four years later, while driving at an unknown speed, the fuel gauge malfunctioned showing an incorrect reading. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 29,111.

Speedometer and rpm controls stop working when car is hot. Can't drive but about three miles before they stop working.

My 2005 chevrolet cavalier fuel and temperature gauges quit working.i ran out of gas in a remote location while the gauge said i had half a tank.i consider this to be a safety issue for me and my family.

A few years ago the speedometer stopped working randomly, but would start working again. This past summer my rpm gauge started saying my engine was rotating at 7000 rpm when the car was off. The rpm gauge has not worked since and the speedometer picks and chooses when it wants to work. Those are 2 very important pieces of equipment in a car. When i talked to chevy about it in 2008 (i think), they stated that there were no recalls on the part and that no one else had filed any complaints about the same issues. They said it would cost up to a few thousand dollars to fix due to having to take the dash apart to replace the gauge cluster (which is $800 on its own). I have been watching forums etc since then and they are full of the exact same complaints and still chevy is not doing anything about it.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier. The contact stated that the speedometer malfunctioned and was providing erroneous readings. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop, who diagnosed that the instrument panel was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 270,000.

I purchased a 2005 chevy cavalier in october 2005. My car was purchased with bad or no shocks andwithin the first 1 to 2 years my trunk interior light blew off the wire sounding like a bomb.then my driver rear door was not able to open (due to the linkages).shortly after that the passenger rear door would not shut because the latch stuck (had to bungy strap it)then got it fixed to shut then it would not open (due to linkages)both front doors are messed up as well. ( drvier side difficult to open and poassenger side does not always catch when you shut it).my radio does not shut off when driver door is open like it should.my interior bulb had to be taken out due to never shutting off after doors were closed.my driver window makes noise when opening it.(manual window crank).my guages do not work properly either.i contacted gm and they said to take my car in to have it checked out and repaired but i can not afford the work to be done, the price for a rental, or to miss work.i had the car for 6.5 years (almost) but the age of the car should have ntohing to do with everything going wrong with the linkages and electrical.passengers have to crawl over the front seat to get into the back.any information is appreciated. Best way to contact me is email and i will respond if a number is left.i need answers to what can be donefinancially i can not afford anything. I believe that i may have been sold a lemon. I had to replace my trunk latch due to it not wanting to close.

The speedometer began to intermittently provide erratic indication of speed.the symptoms eventually got worse to the point that the speedometer doesn't indicate properly at all.the problem occurred at the same time the engine temperature gauge wouldn't work properly.reviewed various websites and found that this is a well know defect for chevrolet instrument panels.the speedometer will read low causing a safety hazard when the driver tried to maintain speed.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier. While the contact was driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle suddenly accelerated without warning. The contact also noticed that the windshield wipers suddenly stopped working intermittently. The vehicle had not been inspected when the complaint was filed. The current and failure mileages were approximately 82,000.

This is a problem i inherited from the previous owner. I bought the car with approximately 50000 miles on it. The fuel gauge is never accurate. Most of the time it reads past full and into the adjacent temperature gauge. Twice i have been forced to walk to a gas station because i ran out of gas when i didn't know i was low. This is a major safety issue because i could be hit by a car walking along a highway trying to get gas. I'm also concerned that the faulty gauge will interfere with my temperature gauge causing my car to overheat without me knowing.

I have a 2005 chevy cavalier that i have been having trouble with the temperature gauge reading hot when the motor is not.i've been told that the instrument panel most likely needs replaced and it's very expensive.the car has only 75,000 miles.i have been reading a lot of complaints about the panels going out of this model.not being able to know whether the car is performing properly could pose a safety hazard driving.if the temperature gauge is reading incorrectly, i have no way of knowing whether to turn the car off or keep driving it.

When my gauges won't work i punch the dash right behind the steering wheel & voila, they jump to attention. My speedometer does hang up slightly < & the car overheats slightly in heavy traffic.2 coolant changes in 100,000 miles have had no effect. Dexcool is not good, as it will gel. Recommend draining immediately for all.

There needs to be a recall for the chevy cavalier 2005 vehicles for speedometer defect. It no longer works in my vehicle and i have read a lot of complaints about this.

One by one, the gauges in the instrument cluster failed.as a result, the speedometer, fuel gauge, and tachometer no longer function.repairs are pending while i determine if my extended warranty will cover it.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier. The contact was driving 50 mph when the speedometer failed to provide accurate readings and the vehicle experienced abnormally high engine rpms. The contact also stated that the temperature gauge failed to provide accurate temperature readings, displaying that the vehicle was overheating when it was not. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop where the contact was advised that the temperature gauge would possibly need to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted but the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 126,000 and the current mileage was 130,000. Updated 01/10/12*lj

The speedometer in the 2003-2005 chevrolet cavalier is likely defective among many cars. Recently, when my speedometer in my 2005 chevrolet cavalier stopped working at 93000 miles, it prompted me to do a search on google to see if anyone else had a similar problem. I bought the car with 72000 miles on it out of warranty and i soon realized (maybe in 2000-3000 miles) that the speedometer was around 5mph fast. I was able to test this using speed check signs posted by police and by using my gps unit. At the moment, my particular speedometer works when the weather is warm (not too cold, not too hot), but many other's don't work at all, or this happened before theirs stopped working completely.it appears that many others with many different years of the car have experienced the same problem. (by many others, i found at least 30-40 complaints among the years the cavalier new style of cavalier has been built (2002-2005) the average cost to fix this problem is $800, according to http://carcomplaints.com, which is more than 20% of the assessed value of my car. As i am sure you are aware, the speedometer is an integral part of a car's suite of safety features. Not only does it contribute to the safety of the drive and his or her passengers, it also contributes to the safety of the highway system as a whole.please consider investigating this issue as many others have experienced it.

This vehicle has lost the speedometer sveral times over the last 20,000 miles and now it has quit completely, i went to an on line forum and they say this has been happening a lot with no recall from general motors. Usually before it would bounce up to 35 or 40 and then start working again, but it is dead now. No movement at all.

At highway speeds, the speedometer needle on our 2005 chevrolet cavalier fluctuates wildly and is unreadable. Reducing speed greatly or changing rate of acceleration/deceleration will correct the problem temporarily, but it recurs every time the car passes 55 miles per hour.

2005 chevy cavalier. About a year ago my temperature gauge started malfunctioning. The indicator needle would go off it's gauge and interfere with the speedometer needle. I took it in and had the temp sensor replaced and it seem ed to fix it till a week later the same thing happened. My mechanic thought it might be a faulty sensor so he replaced that. Same thing happened.. I was then told that the instrument cluster would have to be replaced for about $500-$700. I've done research on this problem and it seems to be a wide spread problem with this vehicle. Now the speedometer is malfunctioning. It was indicating 110 mph while i was doing about 45mph. Other times it has read 45 when i was doing about 60 mph. ( i timed myself by mile markers...1 mile in 1 minute= 60 mph. Not only has this raised my chance of speeding tickets but i feel it is a real safety issue. People will be going much faster than their speedometer indicates. Gm has recalled truck models with the same problem but not the cavalier. My guess is that gm does not make that model anymore but they still make the trucks. I am very uncomfortable driving this car now and to get it fixed would be a gamble in itself. They would probably put the same poorly designed and manufactured panel back in. This is just not right. I would appreciate some feedback on this matter. My vehicle is not safe to drive due to poor gm quality. Please help.thank you.

I have had some of the issues others have mentioned. Twice all the gauges went dead-stayed in the positions they were in when the ignition is off. Twice the horn didn't work- had to roll down the window and yell! when the gauges went the first time, i stumbled on the fix. I'd removed the fuse to test it-tested ok. Put it back in, now all gauges worked fine. I realized that the two problems are related-both get power through the fuse panel. The dash vibrates so much that these two in particular work loose. Now i remove the fuse panel cover every couple of months and push down on all fuses and relays. Problem solved. To the people with the "[xxx]" temperature gauge, good luck on that one. I hope this info helps.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The instrument panel of my 2005 chevy cavalier has gone crazy. It started with my gas gauge staying all the way to the right which prevents my temp gauge from reading. Now in the past week the rpm gauge is doing the same thing. I have noticed the speedometer will stick as i accelerate. I am just waiting for it to go out. I have to judge my miles to make sure i don't run out of gas. Why hasn't chevy recalled this problem? i also have had to replace both driver and passenger side window motors....now i believe it's an electrical problem that should be recalled!

2005 cavalier, approx 45,500 miles, cluster panel on dash went haywire. Cannot tell if you need gas or what your rpms are in general you cannot trust your panel.then check engine light comes on. Don't know if that is a separate issue. Dealer says there are numerous complaints but we must pay for our own repairs,

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier. The contact was driving approximately 30 mph when the vehicle speedometer and tachometer failed. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnosis of the failure. The vin was unavailable. The failure mileage was 71,000 and the current mileage was 71,050.

I want to know is there a recall on my gauges on my 05 cavalier because what happens if i run out of gas and i have a wreck because my gas gauge don't work and don't know how fast i am going or what the rpms of my engine or the temp of the engine.

We bought our '05 cavalier used in the fall of 2008, thinking it was a solid, reliable vehicle for our young family.it didn't take long (date i posted was approximate, based on when i know for sure it was doing it's thing) for the gauges to start acting up.from then on, it reads like it's overheating on a regular basis (going all the way to the red sometimes), despite the cooling system, thermostat, etc. Being fine.also, the gas and odometer gauges act up, typically when the temp gauge does.they move around all crazy and stick sometimes.i find i often have to remove the fuse to the gauges to reset them, though this tends to require sitting for as much as 5 minutes.all this just to be able to discern how fast your going is ridiculous.with all the complaints i've read on the '05 cavs doing this, you think chevy would fix the issue...it's a potential safety hazard to have your gauges mess up that bad.

While driving both the speedometer and the temperature gauge failed, temperature gauge is now stuck showing vehicle is overheating (it is not), speedometer moves all over and registers either a speed over 100 mph when on the road or registers either 20mph or 60mph while sitting still at start-up. Due to this issue i have no idea what speed i am going and must gauge speed by what other drivers are doing around me.

I have two problems that may be safety related. One more so than the other. The instruments, none of them work, but most important is the speedometer. It started hanging up, then finally hung all the way at 120 mph. I have to use a gps to make sure of my speed.gm is replacing other vehicles clusters for the same issue, but i have an idea they're skipping the cavalier for the other reason of my complaint. The dashboard is literally falling apart. I don't know when it may try to fall on my lap, its cracked up so bad and rattles terribly. It seems like it could bust all to pieces in a collision. I can't even touch the cluster bezel without it cracking. It scares me. Could you at least investigate this and let me know what you find? thank you!

I have a 2005 , cavalier and i have the same complaint as every one else my gauges are going hay wire.1st started at 62,000 miles the rpm started messing up 2nd the speed gauge was next acting as if it didn't wont to move. 3rd now at 89,000 miles the temp gauge is saying its hot when its not look under hood i see no heat coming from engine, check the coolant not steam .i am pissed and tired of this car.all three gauges that i mention are taking turns going up and down. From the start when i brought this car it had electrical problems when i brought this car it had 8 miles and mine you this is my 2nd chevrolet cavalier of the last model and it had electrical problems. So gm swallow ur pride and fix these cars i don't have 500~800 to fix some thing that should be recalled on your behalf. This is an issue.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier. While driving 20 mph, the speedometer fractured along with the horn and the front passenger door latch. The vehicle was repaired by the contact. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was 56,000.

Chevrolet has used this instrument cluster on a variety of models and it goes bad in just about every case.it needs a recall to fix all models affected.chevrolet knows about the problem but will not voluntarily fix it.there are companys that make their living repairing this instrument cluster from chevrolet.

My gauges in my car are messing up. The fuel gauge is below the e and runs into the temp gauge. The speedometer reads i am going 110 when i am not the odometer reads error. All my emergency lights are lighting up. This is happening to alot of people who own these year of cavaliers. Chevy needs to own up and issue a recall because this is unsafe not knowing what speed i am going and if i have enough gas to get to where i am going. I am a chevy fan and this is upsetting that all these people are having these issues and they are not doing recalls.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier.the contact stated that the horn sounds intermittently while the vehicle is parked or while opening the trunk.the key must be placed in the ignition in order for the horn to shut off.she stated that the vehicle feels as if it will shut off while driving.in addition, one battery has already been replaced and the passenger side rear window will not roll up once it is down.the vehicle has been to the dealer five times, but the failures persist.the contact filed case number 71-530-566-719 with general motors.the current mileage was 34,000 and failure mileage was 29,000.updated 02/01/08.*lj

Fuel gauge defect.goes all the way past full and holds down temperature gauge. Can't tellhow much fuel is in vehicle.

I own a 2005 chevrolet cavalier and bought it from a dealer in 2008.since then all of the gauges are now inoperable.this is a great inconvenience, as well as a safety issue.not knowing how fast you are going, how much gas you have, or what the temperature is can become a huge issue, not to mention costly.now, i know this is not the first complaint on these issues and i feel that something should be done about them.if all of these complaints are out, there must be a problem with these cars from the factory.i hope this matter is being investigated and not just put to the side to claim that it must be something that the drivers are causing.please let us know what the intentions are of gm or whomever is responsible.we paid for these vehicles, which are fairly good ones, can someone please make the decision to take care of this problem. [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Instrument panel speedometer and fuel gauge are inaccurate, gauges stick, flutter and become inoperative and often report false speeds and fuel level.the problem started with occasional erratic behavior, but with each passing week the problem is persistent.

Speedometer inop.

Gauges on dashboard have failed.all lights come on and gauges fail.speedometer says i'm going 60 mph when the car is stopped.water temp gauge is not functioning and the indicator gets in the way off the speedometer indicator.

I was on my way home today and think god my husband was driving..my gauges are not working on the car which is does from time to time. We merge on a major highway and the gas pedal accelerated and would not stop it just keep getting faster,, my brakes would not even stop it or the emergency brake either..we had to run some red lights because we could not stop it so we could try to get home without crashing the car to stop it but we could slow it down putting it in neutral but it was burning up the brakes and transmission. Finally we got in front myhouse and had to put it in park fast just to stop it. The gas pedal only accelerates and the brakes don't even work on it...we could of died today!!! i'm so glad i was not driving it..i would of had to call 911 and have the cops box me in to stop. I messed up my brakes and transmission on it just to stop it today. I went online to check for any recalls and i see that people had problems but no recalls...i saw my life flash for my eyes today and put my trust in my car everyday thinking that they made it right..???

I have a 2005 chevy cavalier with 66k miles on it. The speedometer, fuel gauge, temp gauge will at times have a mind of their own. I know i'm not really going 30 mph when stopped at a light. And how can everyone be passing me on the freeway when i'm doing 110?

Speedometer is no longer working correctly,it now comes to rest anywhere from 30-60 when car is not moving, it does increase as speed increases but does not decrease at the same rate, causing the speedometer to register above the limit of the dial.horn does not work via the steering wheel, the horn does sound with locking and panic buttons.dealer informed me that this is not covered under warranty and that there are no recalls for speedometer, and that the cost would be $650 he was able to tell me this without looking up any information, sounds to me like they have replaced quite a few instrument panels recently.

The speedometer quits working. As im sitting still its saying 85 mph as im driving says 110mph. Then it will start working again and the next time i drive it stops again and says a high speed as im sitting still and a very high speed when im driving!

Already complained here once. Now my car fuel gage is broke gos all the way over and hits on my temp gauge every so offen. Dont really know how much gas i have in it, but least can go 300-365 miles. Depending on how much i drive. I dont think that it should break after only 41000 miles. Last time i wrote on here it was my temp gauge that hit on my speedometer.. Think before long all will go out. Wish someone would do something for these cars, kind exp to keep fixing. Paid cash for the other one to be fixed. Only drive the car once in awhile. Its not an old car so. Not very safe car as far as i am concerned, dont have the money to go buy a new one........

I have a 2005 chevy cavalier that has never been modified in any way and about a year and a half ago, i noticed that the instrument panel was acting faulty.i checked the sensors and lines in the engine, towards the steering wheel and everything seems intact. After that, it would act up sometimes and when the engine was turned off, the gauges would stay stuck and when you restart the engine, they would rotate even more further pass their normal idled position. It just got worst and worst.now it's not even working.i can't really tell when i am low on gas until my gas checklight comes on nor can i tell how fast i am driving.that's my worst concern.my temp gauge sometimes works and sometimes not.speedometer and rpm don't work at all.this is faulty and think thatchevy should either have it recalled or replace for free.it was bought in having faith in reliability that the car and parts would last a little longer than 4 years, especially interior parts/instruments.

1st issue was the speedometer started malfunctioning off & on.it shows going much faster than car really is going.doesn't happen all the time.2nd issue was warning light which a station told me that the code is for a malfunction in the fuel line, it shows a major leak, but repairmen could find no real leak.warning light does go off & on, so not on all the time.3rd issue was off & on the front driver & passenger windows start rolling down or up and then just quit, but start working again after shutting off engine a couple times.4th issue was the rpm meter started doing what the speedometer had been doing.5th issue is the passenger side wiper stopped working.that's the only one that hasn't "fixed" itself.all the others are off & on working or not working.the wiper was the latest incident with all of them starting in the past 6 months.

The vehicle dash board gauges started to rapidly fluctuate from minimum to maximum values as i was traveling down the road at 60 miles/hour. The tachometer was the first gauge to malfunction and does not work 95% of the time. The second gauge to malfunction, later on in the week, was the fuel gauge. The needle will display a full tank of gas at one moment and a near empty tank minutes later, proving to be unreliable to estimate the fuel level. Shortly after, the temperature gauge malfunctioned and moved from left to right never settling at a stationary temperature. I fear, through personal research, that the speedometer will be the next gauge to malfunction, making it unsafe to determine speed since the tachometer is already not working.

The tach in the instrument cluster is not displaying the correct engine speed.the engine can be turning 800-900 rpm at idle and the tachometer is showing 0 rpm or below.as engine speed increases, the tach needle does increase normally but the reading is still invalid.this problem seems to be intermittent in frequency which makes the tachometer a very unreliable source of information for the driver.

The speedometer in my 2005 chevy cavalier has stopped working.it won't register the correct speed at all, at any speed.

My cavalier has over 97,000 miles on it.last winter the speedometer started sticking at 0 randomly.during the warmer months, it seemed to work fine.now that it is cold that speedometer is sticking again and doing it more often than last winter.i was sitting still at a traffic light the other day and it jumped to 110 mph and stayed there.i had no idea how fast i was going and what if something had happened.i can not afford the $300 to $800 that i have been told it would take to fix this.also, i highly suspect that this might be connected, the car would refuse to start last winter also.all of the lights would come on along with the heater and fan.the starter wouldn't even act like it was trying... No clicking or any other noises typically associated with that.please investigate these problems and issue a recall.i really like chevrolet but, these problems are scary.

I have a 2005 chevy cavalier ls the instrument cluster has gone wacky all the gauges are to the right and you cannot tell what speed you are going, how much gas you have, what the temp is.only have 19,000 miles on the thing and the list of complaints i see regarding this problem , i think gm should issue a recall. *ln

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier. The contact stated the speedometer and tachometer failed. The contact stated he does not know how fast he was driving when the failure occurred. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing nor was the manufacturer notified. The failure mileage was 33,254.

I just bought a 2005 cavalier from a private party and a couple days after i had it i noticed that my speedometer said i was going 110 mph while i was on freeway my heart dropped i immediately let off the accelerator to reduce speed. I began to observe that others were passing me so i got off on the next exit. When i came to a complete stop the speedometer read 55 mph. I turned the car off and restarted it hoping that would fix the problem but it didn't. Since then my gas gauge and temp gauge has been reading improperly. I tried to turn off the car and restart it a few times to try to get it back to normal but seems to make it worse. What cab i do to fix this since its a very common problem and chevy won't fix it even though it could cause an accident. I'm a parent and i am supposed to put trust in this car and company to keep my children safe?!?! please recall and fix this problem. Thank you

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier. The contact stated that after driving the vehicle off of the lot she noticed that the speedometer displayed the incorrect speed. The gasoline gauge had also failed and the odometer had also malfunctioned. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer who informed the contact that they could not assist her. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 188,000. The vin was unavailable.

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet caviler. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the entire instrument panel failed and became dark. The contact stated that she restarted the vehicle and the failure recurred. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and stated that the vehicle was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was 63,100.

The weather was in the 10s and single digits. I was traveling in pair, we did not exceed 35 miles an hour as visibility was very poor due to snow and winds. I noticed my speedometer was accelerating, believed my tires were spinning on ice. I come to a stop and realized my speedometer was still going 60 miles an hour. Drove the rest of the way home following my friend who was previously following me. The mph needle made its way to point straight down. I wouldn't have expressed concern if other chevy cavalier owners had told me to, because it has happened to them too. I am a new owner of this car, bought it from a dealership so i don't know that how well taken care of this car was.i pride myself in taking extra car of my vehicles. I do not think the speedometer should have failed unless it was because of operator misuse, and i have not misused my vehicle.

Temperature gauge stopped working and is stuck over 260 degrees, initially moved back but now remains totally turned to the right. Speedometer also stopped working, would turn on ignition and the speedometer would read 30 mph in idle and i would begin driving. To calculate speed i would have totake the speedometer speed-30mph and it would equal the actual speed. Then stopped at a red light, speedometer only decreased to 50 mph, by the time i reached home the speedometer read 95 mph in idle. Additionally cd player also stopped working.it occurs all the time and the consequences are not knowing true temperature or speed of the vehicle posing a danger to all on the road and myselfvehicle not yet repaired.

All gauges don't work. Speedometer,fuel,temperature.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier. The contact stated that the fuel gauge did not provide accurate readings. The contact also stated that the speedometer would get stuck on various speeds and display inaccurate readings as well. The speedometer would get stuck displaying a speed of 20 mph, 60 mph, 80 mph and 110 mph. In addition, the fuel gauge failure would occur during cold weather and display readings of empty when fuel was present in the fuel tank. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 58,000.

The 2005 chevy cavalier instrument cluster works erratically(speedometer/tachometer).

Temperature gauge stopped working, reads sometimes, and sometimes does not.replaced sensor and had no effect on gauge function.fuel gauge is intermittent after the temperature gauge stopped functioning as well.door on heating underneath the dash clacks constantly unless you set the heat in recirculation mode.needles of the two gauges hit each other as they wander aimlessly through their orbits.horn stopped working at 98000 miles.this vehicle is plagued by bad wiring and parts.however, it is a fine running vehicle and should ast another 100000 miles if you're willing to drive it without gauges, horn and only run through the heat and ac in recirculation mode. Chevrolet knows this has happened constantly with these vehicles and should recall and correct them.if i can't trust the original gauge cluster, how can i trust a new set if i take the vehicle to the dealer for repair and pay an exorbitant price to have them replaced and repaired?i would expect this from a chrysler product but never a chevrolet!!!

I have a 2005 cavalier which i purchased with 17,000 miles on it.i am currently at 28,500 approximately.my car is currently experiencing problems with the temperature gauge, gas gauge and check engine light.it also appears to be accelerating on it's own.i have checked several websites and find that this problem seems to in addition to the other issues, i am experiencing problems with my horn (i am not familiar with the relationship they components of a car have with each other).my understanding is that chevy did a recall do to defects with steering problems in the 2005 cavaliers.could the problems that i and other are experiencing be a part of that recall, since it is all apart of the dashboard be common for the year, make and model of my car?

I drive a 2005 chevy cavalier and on very hot or cold days, or when i drive longer than usual distances (over 30 miles), the speedometer often malfunctions, either by getting stuck reading over 110 mph, even when stopped, or by reading under zero, even when i'm moving.and lately the temp gauge has started doing this as well, alerting to me overheating on cold days even though the engine is not overheating and the check engine light never comes on. It's frustrating and frightening and unsafe.

I have a 2005 chevy cavalier that has never been modified in any way and about a year and a half ago, i noticed that the instrument panel was acting faulty. It would act up sometimes and when the engine was turned off, the gauges would stay stuck and when you restart the engine, they would rotate even more further pass their normal idled position. It just got worst and worst. Now it's not even working. I can't really tell when i am low on gas until my gas checklight comes on nor can i tell how fast i am driving. That's my worst concern. My temp gauge sometimes works and sometimes not. Speedometer and rpm don't work at all. This is faulty and think that chevy should either have it recalled or replace for free. It was bought in having faith in reliability that the car and parts would last a little longer than 4 years, especially interior parts/instruments.

Fuel gauge, temp gauge, tach, and speedometer are not working properly. These are common problems on these cars as you are surely aware of. Gm should be forced to recall these vehicles and repair them. These are serious safety issues. Thanks

I purchased a 2005 chevy cavalier new in december of 2004 and in march of 2013 the gauges stopped working. They would randomly work one or the other now all my gauges have stopped working all together. I have no clue how fast i'm going or how many rpms i'm using or if the car is overheating or not!

Gadge cluster doesn't display any correct information. At first the tach started reading incorrectly, ex. 4200 rpm with engine off/ reading does not change with engine speed (rpm). Next the temp gadge , ex. 200+ degrees when starting after 12+ hours engine still cold to the touch. Later the fuel gadge, reading changes and fluctuates moment to moment. Also the interior lights and security system seem to be involved. Alarm goes off spontaneously regardless if it has been enabled or not. Interior lights sometimes function sometimes not. Seems to be a major defect in the computer or electrical harness as individual components test ok. With some online research this seems to be a very common problem with this specific vehicle,

Speedometer cluster broke and cost $400.00 to be rebuilt.a service report was issued to the dealership that this is a common problem.after searching the web for complaints, i found there has been thousands of complaints on the same issue on all gm vehicles.why is there no recall?

1. The speedometer on my 2005 chevy cavalier ls does not work.started in february when needle stuck at 10mph when stopped... It was an extremely cold day, which led me to believe it was weather related, but not the case.2.speedometer has gotten worse; sometimes doesn't budge at all and sometimes reads way too high. It is quite unpredictable, and occurs every time i drive.i do not feel safe, and would like to replace asap, but as a single mom it is not easy to come up with the amount of $$ needed.3. I've researched problem and see that several other chevy owners have had problems with the speedometer; seems a recall should be in order.

The speedometer has failed to register any speed and is stuck in a position past the highest speed on the gage face. The tachometer needle jumps around also leaving you no way to judge your speed. I just bought the car. The previous owner said it failed some time ago while he was driving it. I am pacing other cars while i am waiting for repair parts to get here.

As i was driving in a residential area near my residence, i noticed the speedometerstuck @ 30mph even after i stopped for a traffic light. My son removed the fuse & then re-inserted it. Speedometer then went back to zero so i thought it was a loose fuse. Same thing happened several days later and speedometer stuck @ 50mph. My son removed &re-inserted the fuse and speedometer went back to zero. But a few days ago while driving in a 30mph zone, the speedometer eventually stuck @ 110mph. This appears to be a very common problem with this make & model of vehicle. I'm surprised that a recall has not occurred because this is definitely a safety issue.

Rear directional turn signalshave stopped operating ( left rear signal lamp)front left signal lamp operates at a rapid rate, left rear signal lamp will not flash, but both rear lamp bulbs are illuminated.

Last december my 2005 cavalier experienced a speedometer malfunction while i was traveling on the highway.i was in an area where the speed zone changed from 50 mph to 65 mph.the speedometer registered my increase in speed fine.when i slowed down, the speedometer stayed in place.over the past 7 months my dashboard gauges (fuel, temp, speed, rpm) all malfunction.sometimes they reset themselves.most of the time i'm never sure how fast i'm going or how much gas i have.my engine temp will read off the charts even on a cool morning after it has sat still all night.although this started last december, the problems continue to this day. I have poured so much money into other electrical issues with this car already, i'm convinced it is not worth one more dime to fix the instrument cluster.i've spent hundreds on power window motors that continuously malfunction.the rear right blinker has consistently gone haywire as well.i had resigned myself to the fact that i was one in a thousand who happened to get an electrical lemon.after reading all the complaints from other cavalier owners, however, i realize that chevrolet in 2005 played a sick joke on the whole lot of us.i have owned several imported cars, mostly honda's and toyota, and have never been as displeased.gm should be ashamed.the car drives great.i was very excited about it when i bought it as i liked the look and feel of it on the road.i'll never buy another chevrolet.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier. The contact stated that the fuel gauge was providing incorrect fuel level readings and caused the temperature gauge to malfunction. The failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer and was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vin was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 65,000.

A short while after i bought this car i noticed all of my gauges went out. I was nervous to even drive the car because i didn't know how much gas i had or how fast i was going. Now i'm constantly having trouble when iget gas. Even when i know for sure that i need gas after pumping for a few seconds, it never fails that the pump will stop as if my tank is full. This morning my check engine light came on. I take very good care of this car and all of these malfunctions seemingly one right after the other make me question the safety of this vehicle.

When cold outside the temperature gauge will read inaccurate temperatures and gauge is stuck to far left and does not budge. A week later the gas gauge also gave out. Do not know how much gas in tank! was driving across the state on a vacation trip and was using cruise control. Once taken off cruise control the speedometer is stuck at 65mph and will not change. Very dangerous. Going on long distance trips and not knowing how much gas, my speed or the temperature of the internal system is scary indeed.

All the gauges on my 2005 chevrolet cavalier have stopped working. The fuel gage was the first to stop working, followed by the rest of the gauges. The speedometer no longer works and it is a safety issue because i have no idea what speed i am going, how much fuel i have, if the engine is overheating, etc. I have searched online and have found multiple reports of the same problem. Chevrolet has recalled other vehicles for this exact problem, so obviously it is an issue they can correct. I have waited to hear about a recall, but now that my speedometer has failed i can not wait any longer.

2005 caalier fuel and speedometer guages stopped working

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier. The contact stated the instrumental cluster electrical system failed and caused the speedometer to provide incorrect reading when contact drove 55mph the speedometer read 30mph. The speedometer was not replaced. The contact also wanted to stated that the fuel gauge failed but was replaced. The approximate failure mileage was 83,000 and the current mileage was 99,211. Li

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier. The contact stated that he noticed the temperature gauge seemed to move sporadically. The gauge indicated that the vehicle was hot but it was not. The gauge also became "hang up with the speedometer",according to the contact. The contact disconnected the temperature gauge. The contact planned to perform repairs himself; he purchased a motor that would be installed behind the instrument panel. The contact called the dealership who advisedhim to take the vehicle in for a diagnostics test. The current and failure mileages were approximately 122,000.

Temp gauge tends to stick in the middle and will not go down after i shut off my car when i drive more than 30miles. After a few hours i can usually get it back down but one time it went all the way over to mph area and then that needle got stuck under which i had no clue how fast i was going because the other needle. Needles to say i barely drive anywhere outside of town because of the issue.

I own a 2005 chevy cavalier i am the first owner. The car had 50,000 miles on it when all the gauges on the dash board stopped working. The problem started with the gas gauge then finally all gauges stopped working.

I loved my 2005 chevy cavalier when i first bought it back in 2006. After a year of driving my speedometer, as well as all the other gauges. Now my window on the passenger side will not go back up. Chevrolet has really put a bad taste in my mouth and i plan to never purchase any vehicle from chevrolet again.

As many of other have already reported. Out of no where, my instrument cluster started going hay-wire. All the needles read inaccurate information by shaking, bouncing or saying in king 110 mph in park.

At approximately 30,000 miles, our 2005 chevrolet cavalier's gas gage, speedometer, and instrument cluster started malfunctioning.after researching the problem, and cost to fix, we decided against repairs, as we don't have $500+ to fix the problem.after researching this on the internet, we have found that many people have complained about the same problem with their 2005 chevrolet cavaliers.our car is a one owner vehicle, so we know the maintenance and care of the car.chevrolet, to this point, has done nothing for the other owners, who have paid for this repair.regardless of the fact that our car is no longer under warranty, we should not have to pay for this obvious malfunction.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier.the contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the speedometer failed and would only provide a reading of zero. In addition, the temperature gauge increased abnormally. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic and a diagnostic was performed, which located the failure at the instrument cluster. The instrument cluster was replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 67,710 and the approximate current mileage was 73,000. ...updated 04/25/13

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier. While driving various speeds, the speedometer, temperature, and rpm guages became inoperable. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the instrument cluster wire connector was tightened; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not reapired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

The front passenger side electric window does not work will not roll down will not roll up. The rear-driver-side electric window does not work will not roll down will not roll up, the rear passenger side electric window does not work will not roll down will not roll up.

The instrument gauges in our 05 cavalier are not working properly.the speedometer will sometimes fall from the car speed of 65 down to 0 and swing back up to 65 again.the other instrument gauges have started doing the same.we have had many safety issues with the power windows from the first day we bought this car.the drivers side window has no power at all.there is a 5 inch gap at the top, and sometimes the window will fall down even further when driving on the highway.i have done research on the web and found that this is a very common problem with the 05 chevy cavaliers.i previously asked gm to help me fix this drivers side window hazard, but they wanted me to be the one to take action.others that i have spoken with on the web have had the motors replaced by an authorized dealer at no cost.all of my web browsing & researching of this matter was consistent.the motors are defective.and the cost of the window motor plus labor was over $500.00 per window.that doesn't include fixing any electrical problems that may be wrong. I asked for our drivers side window to be repaired by chevrolet so that we could drive in safety with no sudden distractions or hazards.recently, the rear drivers side window has started moving up & down very slowly and we are afraid it is also going to need repair.

I have a 2005 chevrolet cavalier and my speedometer and gas gauge have gone crazy, this repair is upwards of about $600 and i just went online to figure out what i could do and found a website called carcomplaints.com where 30 other people had the same if not similar issue with the 2004-2005 cavalier, there was rumor of a recall after the car stimulus event, but now i need to get my car inspected and cannot because of this issue. I have used a gps to monitor my speed, thank god for those and so have several other people, but i believe this is a major safety issue that needs to be addressed.

Gauges go out or get stuck sometimes.

All gauges going haywire.the most important one being the speedometer registering various speeds when i am not moving and registering over 110 miles per hour when it is impossible that i am going over 20 mph.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier. The contact stated that the speedometer and both turn signal lights failed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

The gauges have stopped working the, fuel gauge, the speedometer, the temp gauges all stop working. I have a 2005 chevy cavalier.

My 2005 chevrolet cavalier has been failing on me since i bought it in 2005.first the gas gauge stopped working.i learned to live with that using the trip odometer.next, in the middle of a cross-country drive, my speedometer stopped working!it would do so occasionally, but now it never works at all, and the other gauges have now quit as well.i have run out of gas in the middle of a snow storm, and this incident blocked traffic and risked my life from being hit by another car or freezing to death. I've gotten countless tickets because of these defects.this is a common problem among 2005 cavaliers, very common, and i am appalled that gm has not issued a recall.i've had the gauges replaced but before long the problem starts all over again.it has cost me hundreds, and i'm sure it's just a matter of time before i or someone else with this problem end up injured from being out of fuel, speed, etc.the gauges in my car now do not work at all, i have to rely on a gps for speed and just fill up my car every other day to ensure i don't run out of gas again.i have seen hundreds of stories just like mine with the very same vehicle.something must be done!

Having several problems with cluster. First had problems with the temperature gauge. Sometimes would not budge from cold even after driving 30 miles. Then speedometer completely messed up. Sometimes it would work, but usually it would show that i was driving 110 mph. Finally i just replaced the entire cluster board. Worked properly for one day, but broke again next day. At least the temperature is accurate. But i have to depend on my gps daily to know how fast i'm driving. Occasionally it works properly, but only for a short period of time. And here recently my odometer is going crazy. Actual mileage is accurate, but trip mileage continually resets itself and often appears on its own, without me pushing the button. Sometimes flashes on and off for no reason, even after car has been turned off.

The temperature gauge has stopped working as well as the speedometer and rpm gauge. The gas gauge is the only one still working reliably.

Tl-the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier. The contact stated the vehicle speedometer failed causing the contact not to know the speed driven. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The manufacturer took report 71-982299746 but denied assistance with the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage 150,000. Li

2005 chevy cavalier 2.2l, 33k miles, shortly after purchasing my car the speedometer stopped working.my mechanic told me the gauge cluster was faulty after replacing the speed sensor.i of course called the dealer and they forwarded me to chevy customer support.i told them about the problem and they denied any help with the issue and told me to take it to a shop.i was not pleased with this but i came to accept it and scheduled time and tried to set aside around 400$ for the repair.before i could get paid and take my car into the shop i exited an off ramp or exit ramp that was 30mph limit.i had been following a car to work so i'm not speeding hoping that they are not, and i began to slow down for the turn and began to exit but at this point i really didn't know how fast i was going but i thought i had slowed to what i thought was 30mph but i ended up taking the turn too fast and slammed into and up over a curve and into a wall which deployed the air bags and shattered the windows out on my passenger side.i unfortunately got cut up pretty bad by the glass on the left side of my face leaving me scarred.i feel lucky to be alive.i have read online about the speedometer problem and i've read over 100 out of the 1000s of complaints/reports of people loosing the speedometer shortly after purchasing their 2005 chevy cavalier and many of them report feeling scared or uneasy about driving their cars and i don't blame them.i feel the car is dangerous with out a speedometer or any vehicle for that matter and i feel truly sorry for people who simply can't afford the 400$ - 600$ repair to fix this and are forced to drive with the fear and anxiety of not knowing how fast they are going.i could have died and believe people probably have died as a result of this but i doubt there have been any investigations regarding the functionality of the speedometer or gauge cluster before the wrecks.please help.

My speedometer and temp guage are spun all the way around showing that my car is always going 150 mph and its running at 500 degrees.

2005 chevy cavalier, re: erratic speedometer. Local dealer healey chevy says throw away entire cluster, cost of part @ $300.00 local vinjo oil change express says, test sensors by tranny for @ 1 hour and change individual ones, as needed. 180 degrees apart !! makes sense since gauges are getting false pulse. Speedo does stick too, otherwise rest of cluster functions, odometer and all other gauges(they can't spell at chevy) ok.

Instrument cluster failure on 2005 chevrolet cavaliers.i own two of this year models and both have failed.i have read reports that it is a known failure and gm refuses to recall.this is very hazardous as the failure includes failure of speedometer and temp gauges.

Speedometer quit working.

I have had my 2005 chevrolet cavalier 3 years and the speedometer stopped working a year ago.just yesterday my dashboard lights came on, the tachometer stopped working and i couldn't tell how much gas was in my tank.i thought my airbags were going to deploy for no reason as the light on my dash was lit.i am very concerned about driving this vehicle. Please!!! this is a safety issue!!!

Speedometer stops working and stays on 100 car only has 35,000 miles, also the power steering line broke open and the emergency brake at times pops onto my tire causing my car to slam forward and then it releases.i replaced the brake line and the power steering line but the main problem is the speedometer /cluster

The gauges are failing to operate. This started with the gas gauge and is now affecting the temp gauge. I took it to a dealer for testing and it reset itself when plugged into the computer for diagnosis and it also does this if you disconnect the battery for a few minutes but very quickly stops working again.

One day the temperature gauge started reading high.took it in for a test and the mechanic the car was not overheating.must be the gauge.when we went to pick it up the speedometer wasn't working properly.this morning taking it to the shop to be repaired the fuel gauge stopped working.

My 2004 chevrolet cavalier instrument panel is not working right. So far the gas and the temp gauges have been affected and i am sure the others will soon follow. I have 48000 miles on my car and the five year warranty just ran out. This is a problem that needs to be addressed by gm. From my internet research i have learned that this a common problem on this make of car. Also gm has recalled other car models for the same problem. So why not this one?

In dec 2008, temperature gauge starting reading hot but read normal a few days later.it became erratic for about a week then started pointing to the right of hot and kept moving further clockwise until it was in the 6 o'clock position and stayed that way for a couple months.now (mar 2009) it is in the 4 o'clock position and prevents the speedometer needle from moving past it.within a few moments driving, the speedometer needle then drops back to 0 until the car slows below the speed where the temperature needle stopped it.upon re-accelerating the speedometer needle attempts to operate somewhat normally until it is stopped again by the temperature needle.then it drops back to 0 after a few moments. Many other people say they eventually experience failure of all gauges in the cluster.a recall needs to be issued before someone gets killed because a driver loses control after loss of power due to a condition that could have been prevented if the gauges worked properly (out of gas, excessive temperature etc.) everyone is encouraged to submit their own complaint at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/ and sign up with mycarstats.com to track this issue.

Speedometer, gas gauge and horn don't function or give incorrect readings.

The speedometer on my 2005 chevy cavalier stopped working.the mileage is just over 125,000 miles.the speedometer would indicate a speed of 25 mph when i was stopped.on the interstate it would show i was over 110 mph when i was with the flow of traffic.it finally went so high off the scale that it stayed stuck.i took the car to a goodyear service center and they charged me $220 to "fix" the problem.the speedometer was reading 5 miles per hour when i parked the car in my driveway after driving 3 miles home from the repair shop.it will be next week before i can get back to the shop and try to get some of my money refunded.now i have to find a reputable repair shop that can actually handle the job and replace the defective parts in the instrument panel cluster.

First the tachometer redlined about 2 years ago. Mechanic said it's not really an important instrument so ignore it (it sticks constantly now). However, beginning of 2009, the temperature gauge started reading hot and sticking. About november the speedometer joined in and is sticking.

Last night i was driving home in the dark and the speedometer was not correctly working. (this has happened many times since i bought the car several months ago) the speedometer will work sometimes, then will read erratic, fluctuates from 10 mph to 120 mph whether the car is parked or driving. This has been happening a lot over the past few months. I just bought the car a few months ago. The dealership recommends a new gauge cluster @ $500+. This is a common problem with the 2005 chevy cavalier and other year models as well. I got on the internet and saw many entries about the same problem, same brand, same model. Gm should recall this and fix it. I and others are forced to drive in an unsafe condition. I am retired and cannot afford the part nor afford to trade the car in. Please help me and others who have noplace to turn, thanks.

While driving home one evening in approximately 30 degree weather my 2005 chevrolet cavalier temp gauge began to soar far past the 260 degree mark on the dial and came to rest pointing at the 15 mph mark on the speedometer. This prohibited the speedometer from coming to rest at 0 when the car was not moving. This is causing me to have to use my gps to accurately determine the rate of speed i am traveling at. I have pulled overmany times to check whether or not my car is truly overheating and at no time has it been the case.

I have had my car since 2004 and i loved it when i first drove it off the car lot. Then i have had problem after problem! my gauges mess up all the time. I can get into my car and start it up and it will say i'm doing 70 mph and i'm not moving. I have had to replace my clutch twice in a year. It would be really nice if chevrolet would do a recall on the gauges with all of the problems that people are having!!

Almost the entire gauge cluster (speedometer, fuel, tach, etc) has gone haywire.i am uncertain as i drive of speed, fuel, etc.other chevrolet cavalier indicate the same safety concern and the fact that gm refuses to correct the safety problem. Al ferry

While on congested expressway, passing vehicular traffic began with sounding horns, hand signs of displeasure and rage. At this time an observation of speedometer had a reading of 55 mph, the posted speed limit. Upon exiting expressway and stopping another observation of speedometer revealed vehicle was still moving at 55 mph. During this time a motorist had followed from expressway, approached and offered to violently place my cranium into my anus thereby improving my driving skills. After fleeing this hazardous situation a closer inspection of speedometer informed me of a unpredictable, erratic readings which bordered on not working to showing 100 mph when not in motion. This has clearly caused a life threatening situation on the public way which maybe rectified by a recall notice from gm on this vehicle (instrument cluster) part which is faulty. An investigation of reported complaints, revealed an overwhelming problem with this vehicle part, calling for immediate government oversight and action.

Have 2005 cavalier with 59,000.started having problems with speedometer at about 51,000 miles.speedometer wouldcome to rest anywhere from 30 to 110 when care is not moving.then it would show 80 or so mph when i was only going around 20 to 25. It is now stopped at pegged all the way over .then the tack started acting up, it would move all over the gauge.it too is now holding at 1000 rpm even when i am going around 70 mph. Now the fuel gauge is all over the place too.all this within about 10,000 miles.what next, is the temp gauge going to go hay wire??????i have talked with repair shop and they have told me that chevrolet has been having this problem with their gauges for around three years , since 2002 model.if this is such a wide spread problem, why hasn't chevrolet done a recall on the replace of the gauge cluster.or are they only looking to make a profit from the innocent customers who have the misfortune to have bought a cavalier.the chevy dealer told me that they have replace quite a few of these problems.this repair is not cheap, dealership wanted around $600 dollars to fix the problem.i tried putting of the repair since i could almost judge how fast i was going.that was till i got a ticket.now that the gas gauge is going hay wire, looks like i will have to fork out the money to fix this problem before i run out of gas some where on the highway, or my wife runs out of gas in some bad neighbor.sure don't want any problems like that.why doesn't chevy do a recall since they know about this problem and have know about it for a longlong time.chevrolet is starting to leave a bad taste in my mouth.i am a sixty one year old male and have always drove a chevy.but maybe, just maybe i might have to change my way of thinkingaboutthe chevy build tuff.???????get chevrolet off their rears and lets fix this problem and make your customers happy.

My mom was driving the car as normal down the road one day and all the guages in the entire dash suddenly stopped working. Some came back on and off a couple weeks. Some never did. But after a couple months all stopped working and now nothing works. No heat guage, no fuel guage, no temp guage, no speedometer, and no fuel guage.

Started vehicle all gauges except rpm stopped working read online and saw how common this issue is with this car and was advised to file a complaint about it here in hopes of a recall.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier. While driving 25 mph, all the instrument panel gauges illuminated without warning. It was diagnosed that the electronic instrument cluster failed and needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

My daughter owns a 2005 chevy cavalier and about 2 years ago the temperature gauge stopped working on it it just stays in one place and then about 3 or 4 months ago the speedometer started acting up and now it just does not work at all and now just recently the tachometer just stopped working now how is someone suppose to drive their vehicle safely with all these problems with their car acting like this!

Problem with cluster panel.can't tell how fast i am going, what the temperature of the engine is, how much gas i have.nothing works!i have had to live with this problem for months and am tired of it.i can't afford to get a new cluster, this is a problem it seems with a lot of 2005 cavaliers and something needs to be done!

Speedometer fails to indicate correct speed at unpredictable variances.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier. While the vehicle was parked or while driving, the fuel and temperature gauges failed to display the correct information. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000.

First the gas gauge went hay-wire, when it's full the gauge could say empty or it could be at about half a tank past full.then the speedometer went.usually hangs down at the bottom of the dial.now the rpm gauge is starting to go. Some times it just keeps going higher and higher, other times it will hardly register anything.

The speedometer on my 2005 chevrolet cavalier does not work. While driving slowly through my apartment complex, i noticed that the speedometer read 60 mph which is impossible. At a complete stop the gauge read 10 mph. The amount it's incorrect varies every time i drive. I'm worried that i'll get a speeding ticket or get into an accident because i have no idea how fast i'm driving.

I have a 2005 cavalier with a faulty gauge instrument panel (cluster), faulty speedo and temp gauge. I hear this is a very common problem with gm clusters. Where is the recall??its only 5 yrs old. The speedo needle goes all the way past the #s and rests at my mileage #s. My temp gauge goes pastall the #s.

Speedometer failed, as well asrpm gauge.

2005 chevy cavalier, gauges started going haywire around 50k miles.temp gauge soared and i thought the car was overheating.we were out of town and in heavy traffic, but had to immediately pull over and stop the car "to let it cool off."my son was violently ill at the time and we had gone to pick him up on his job because he could not drive home and we needed to get him to a doctor asap.what a nightmare!we considered getting a rental and calling a tow truck to tow the cavalier home, but when we could find no signs of overheating, we proceeded with caution. This continued to occur over and over again.then several months later, the gas gauge stopped working properly. Seems the needles have a mind of their own.there are multitudes of online compaints about this defect.i wish everyone had filed a formal complaint.but since it is a safety issue, a recall should be issued by chevrolet.the dealership says the only fix is to replace the parts (which only they can do) at a cost to the consumer of $500.

I have a 2005 chevrolet cavalier. The car's speedometer, temperature gauge, rpm gauge and fuel gauge do not work.when i made this complaint to the chevrolet dealer where the vehicle was purchased they said that it wasn't a warranty issue because it didn't deal with any safety issue. I disagree because how could it not be a safety problem, if you can't tell how fast you are going or if your out of gas or if your car is overheating. The dealer acted like it was not a common problem, but all you have to do is go on the internet and there are hundreds of thousands of these same complaints, and not just in the 2005 models it goes back to 1998. The dealer did say that the could replace the cluster but that it would cost me over $500.00. Well, i cannot afford it. Also if you look through some of the complaints online there are people on there that have had their clusters replaced by the dealer and they still are not working properly.so what are we supposed to do? i also found out that chevrolet did recall the same complaints in the silverado trucks. So why not do the same for the cavaliers? please help.

I own a 2005 chevy cavalier with a faulty cluster that controls instrument panel. I now can smell what seems to be electrical burning. Many other owners have this problem also. Gm needs to do a recall on this problem. My gas & temp gauages never work & speedometer is only working part time.i bought this car brand new in 2004 & within 3 months the motor had to be replaced due to factory defect.6 months later, the clutch.this vehicle has major problems!i was completely surprised to find that there are many others with the exact same problem with their gauage & it is my understanding costs between 600 to 800 dollars to fix! my car only has 46,000 miles on it.yes, it is a headache to deal with trying to keep up with your gas mileage but now i fear that something is always burning in my car! gm, as i understand, fixed a similar problem with some pick up trucks but won't touch the cavalier.this needs to be addressed! i am afraid to drive my car for fear it could burst into flames!! i implore you to please make gm accountable for their products.this is obviously a common problem that is truly a factory defect on their part.consumers should not have to pay for their mistakes!!*tw

Around october of 2009, the temperature gauge in my 2005 chevy cavalier started acting funny. My car was not overheating i had it checked. Over the course of the next couple of months the gauge needle started going all the way to the right into the speedometer thus effecting the speedometer's accuracy in telling me how fast i am going. The needle now rests below the 0 mph mark on the speedometer. At the time i did not have the funds to get it fixed. Now just yesterday august 1, 2010 the gas gauge started acting funny, which i started noticing about a month ago. Now the needle is resting in the temp gauge area so i have no idea how much gas i have. To me all these sound like safety issues to me.. Not knowing how hot your car is running! not knowing how fast you are going! and not knowing how much gas you have. I did some research and turns out i am not the first chevrolet cavalier consumer with this problem. Their have been recalls for tahoes, silverados, ect but not for cavalier which has the same thing happening that these vehicles have had. I am taking it tomorrow to have the whole instrument panel cluster replaced at the gm dealership and it will cost me $500 approximately. This is unacceptable for something that is clearly not my fault if multiple vehicles are having the same problem. And what happens if the same thing happens again because chevrolet puts faulty equipment in their vehicles and doesn't take responsibility for it and tries to call it normal wear and tear?? i will have to pay 500 again to have it repaired again.i want to know what kind of wear and tear causes this problem to occur.

Horn contact behind airbag was recently crazy glued, to restore horn, and speedo & cluster requires replacement of entire cluster by chevy, or removal & rebuild of gauge stepper motors through ebay motors. Use froogle.com and enter"repair cavalier speedometer" to search. My speedo only on my cluster erratic for 20k miles. I use my tachometer to guestimate highway speeds,2,500 rpm is 55.i have 120k now on the car, otherwise bulletproof. Just tossing out brake rotors now, that's it. I used synthetic oil from the start, very smooth car, @ normal speeds.needs intake and wheels for speeding, over 65. Engine has plenty of go over that, but base brakes, wheels and intake aren't speedworthy, but it is a base model so ok. Keep the tie rods greased, air filters changed after winteras they are easily serviceable unlike most that aren't.

My daughter was driving the car when all of the gauges on the instrument panel started moving up and down, over and over.this included the temperature gauge, gas gauge, and the speedometer.my daughter could not determine how fast she was driving and it was a distraction that could have resulted in an accident.same thing happened about 2-3 years ago, and it cost me about $500 to replace step motors.

The vehicles gauges are not working properly and the vehicle is not safe to drive.the temperature gauge goes past hot, even though the car is not driving hot, and goes into the speedometer.when this happens, the need from the temperature gauge stops the speedometer needle from moving past the 15 mph location.this is very dangerous because you are driving faster then 15 mph, but only showing 15 mph.the rpm gauge also does not work properly.there are many complaints on this web site about the same problem with the gauges, and the vehicle should be recalled and gm should fix the problem.

Gauges for temperaturedo not work, sometimes reads below zero, sometimes slightly above there is no change in reading whether cold, or running for several hours - at any speed speed gauge works intermittently, sometimes recording 100 mph, when the car is doing no more that 20-30 mph. At other times, it seems to be running about the speed limit, when compared with other traffic, then record 100+mph.at other times, when going with traffic, the gauge reads 0mphthere is no way to know if the car is overheating, or what speed the car is going. This has been the case for about two months, and i was told it was the 'setter', and would cost me $900. Which i did not have. It is very upsetting .

Chevy cavalier 2005 malfunctioning dash instrumentsspeedometer no longer workinggas gauge no longer working.

There is a known issue with the gauges in the 2005 chevrolet cavalier causing them to malfunction or not function at all intermittently. This is a safety hazard because you do not know how much fuel you have, the temperature of your engine, or your speed when the gauges fail.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier. The contact stated that the speedometer and fuel gauge failed. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure mileage. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 45,000 and the current mileage was 59,000.

The speedometer in my 2005 chevrolet cavalier started to stick in random positions. The tachometer had demonstrated similar behavior for several months prior to the speedometer failure. The gas gage also demonstrated unusual behavior prior to the speedometer failure.

Speedometer and fuel guage were erratic.the problem has escalated to the point neither works.in researching this, i have learned this is not an isolated problem and feels it warrants investigating.

Malfunctioning speedometer!!!! i have a 2005 chevrolet cavalier purchased brand new from gm.the spedometer is often putting out faulty readings and sometimes getting stuck where it will not read at all. Several people are out there with malfunctioning spedometers put out by gm between 05 and 07 and gm will not do anything about it.

The speedometer has gone haywire. It gets stuck at the far right end showing over 110 mph when i'm driving only 20 mph.when completely stopped, it will show 60 to 70 mph as the speed.once in a great while, it will work for a few minutes or so.i do not know how fast i am actually going and this is a very real safety hazard.i've been told i might have to replace my dash and this could be very costly- i have only 26,000 miles on my 2005 cavalier, have owned for less than 4 years, and have 2 years yet to pay on my loan.

In aug of last year while driving approx 45 mph, the rpm gauge began jumping up into the red. It took about two weeks worth of driving for it to fail completely. Since the car is an automatic, failure of the rpm gauge was not serious concern. In mid january of this year, i noticed the gas gauge would only show 3/4 a tank after a complete, topped off fill up. Then the temp gauge showed the vehicle was beginning torun hot (195 deg). The garage replaced the thermostat ($230). After a couple of days, the temp started running hot again. I took it back for service. Then they replaced the thermostat sensor ($170) hours after picking the vehicle up the temperature gauge shot well into the red. I then took the vehicle to another service station. Who informed me that the temp is actually fine, but the abs sensors needed replaced ($285)(with no warning light indication from the panel). I have also been informed that the whole instrument panel is bad and needs replaced of which i can not afford to do. The vehicle has now failed state inspection due to the faulty instrument panel. The chevrolet dealer service dept, claims that the panel failing, is very common, and gm refuses to do anything about it.

I have a used 2005 chevy cavalier and the cluster panel is not working properly. The gas gauge doesn't give me an accurate gas amount in the car and the mph works sometime, but often than not, it isn't accurate. I checked with gmc and they say there is no recall to replace it and the cost is $700, which i cannot afford on a fixed income. Can something be done. I know there have been problems with cluster panels in other gmc vehicles.

The speedometer has stopped functioning on my 2005 chevy cavalier.it occasionally will work, but only sporadically, if ever.

I purchased a new 2005 chevy cavalier, and around 60,000 miles i started having problems with the speedometer sticking going down the highway, i would look down and speedometer is reading over 110 mph, when i turned the car off the speedometer would read 70 mph, this happened every once in a while. This is dangerous as you never know what your actual speed is.it would go back to zero after a few days. After dealing with this for a few months, i noticed the other day that my fuel gauge is doing the same thing, when the fuel needle went clear to the right of full, it had my temp gauge needle hung up. Knowing that none of my gauges now appear to be working correctly i took it to our local dealership yesterday to be put on the computer to see what the problem was(told to do so by gm, to see if there was anything they could do to help with the repair cost). They told me that it was the programming in the dash cluster had been knocked out of whack, and that they had reprogrammed the dash cluster and everything was fine, said a high voltage surge had caused the disruption. I drove the car out of town today and when i parked the car in the driveway my speedometer is reading 70mph and my fuel gauge is stuck at 3/4 of a tank. Cost me $113 for nothing yesterday. It is a wonder that no one has been in a wreck or injured from having to pull to the side of a highway because they ran out of fuel or realized something is wrong with their gauges. General motors has known about this issue for along time and refuses to do a recall on these bad cluster panels. I am being told to replace the cluster panel will cost me at least $550. I will call gm tomorrow and tell them reprogramming did not fix the problem, but they already know this, because the representative from gm called today to see what the problem was and my husband told him, he said that reprogramming doesn't fix the cluster problem. Gm needs to fix this problem, it is defective parts.

I have a safety issue with my 2005 chevrolet cavalier.my speedometer quit working and i cannot tell how fast i'm going.i was in another state when i encountered this problem and had to rely on a gpsto monitor speed while driving on the interstate.i have read many on-line complaints from other owner and gm, for some unknown reasons, haven't issued a recall to fix the instrument cluster problem.i have also read that the cost to fix this problem is $800 or more.i find this unacceptable for an american car company to charge for this repair.this is a serious manufacture safety issue and should be fixed free of charge.my car has only 55,000 miles on it and it's not safe to drive.

The speedometer was the first gauge to not work. It is now stuck at 45mph at all times. Now my gas gauge does not work. It even interferes with the temperature gauge. Now the rpm gauge is starting not to work. Some days it works fine and other days it sits at 5 thousand. The temperature gauge is the only gauge that works.

2005 chevrolet cavalier speedometer is sticking, does not read proper, at a complete stop the speedometer reads 35 miles per hour, and will not read correct speed on the highway. The car only has 30,000 miles on it.

I purchased a 2005 cavalier used with 19,000 miles one it.within a couple of months the speedometer, gas gauge, and the thermostat gauges all started to go crazy.i took the vehicle in for repair and was told it would cost about $300 to $500 to fix.i asked if there were any recalls on this defect and was told no.i can never tell how fast i am going, how much fuel i have, or the temperature of my engine.there should be a massive recall and themanufacturer should fix this free of charge.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier. While driving approximately 45 mph, the entire instrument cluster stopped working. The failure began july 2010 when the speedometer would stop functioning.the contact called both the dealer and the manufacturer who offered no assistance. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000 and the current mileage was approximately 94,000.

I recently purchased a used 2005 chevy cavalier. The speedometer does not work. The needle will move clockwise but does not go back down when i slow down--thus, by the time i park my car at my destination, the speedometer needle is basically pointing straight down. The problem gets worse the longer i drive (in one trip). I think it also gets worse the faster i go. Because of this problem, the speedometer is essentially useless. I haven't driven the car much because i recently bought it, so i am not sure how often this problem will occur.

I drive a 2005 chevy cavalier and recently the speedometer and fuel gauge have stopped working. The speedometer continued to climb while i was driving on the highway this weekend, passed 110 mph and ended up pointing straight down. Today when i got in my car to go to work, not only was the speedometer broken, but the fuel gauge was pointing about 40 degrees passed the full mark. This is an extremely unsafe condition. I don't have the $500+ to spend to fix this, but cannot imagine driving without knowing my speed or whether i'm about to run out of gas. I've done some research on this, and it appears that many other cavalier owners have experienced this same exact problem.

The gauge cluster went out. Started with the temp though my car was over heating then after i took in and looked like an idiot they told me my car was over heating.then a week later it did it again then the gas gauge messed then the rpm, 2005 chevy cavalier.

2005 chevrolet cavalier. About a month ago my fuel and odometer gauges started to fail. I have read other complaints from owners of the similar make and model. I feel that this is a safety issue and it must be addressed. I know this is costly to repair and i do not think it is due to the age or wear and tear of the vehicle.

Speedometer and tach inaccurate.

2005 cavalier speedometer started displaying incorrect speed and will not reset to 0.this is a dangerous problem which requires immediate attention.research on the internet reveals this to be a common problem and should be recalled by the manufacturer (there is even an online petition for recall).

Speedometer is inoperative. Started by being intermittent with a random zero speed (50 mph when car stopped). Would go up from there when car moved. Intermittently it would work ok. Now it is completely inoperative. Been out of order for several months. Apparently if this is fixed by a dealer it is $500-800.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier. While driving 60 mph the instrumental panel suddenly failed not allowing the contact to see the speed he was driving. The dealer was contacted and informed the contact that there were no recalls related to his vin and that the vehicle could be repaired at his expense. No repairs were made when the complaint was filed. The failure mileage was 51000 and the current mileage was 54300.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier. On several occasions, while driving, the instrument panel failed to operate as intended. The contact stated that the fuel gauge, engine temperature gauge, and tachometer were inoperable. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. The dealer was not notified. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 170,000.

Speedometer, and fuel gauge stopped working. I was told the entire instrument cluster needs to be replaced.

My speedometer on my 2005 chevy cavalier sticks whenever it is cold. It'll be stuck on 40mph when im parked. It will eventually go back down only to stick again a few days later. Seems like a lot of people are having the same problem. Safety recall?? or can i just send chevy the speeding ticket because i have no idea how fast i'm going??

I own a 2005 chevy cavalier.within a year of my purchasing the car, used, the speedometer has stopped functioning.a mechanic not affiliated with any dealership repaired the item and again it has stopped working.there are several complaints of a similar nature on my.car.stats.shouldn't something be done about this?

Speedometer stopped working.

Over the winter i noticed my rpm gauge was not work properly then two months ago my temp gauge started acting up, then yesturday my speedometer started doing the same thing. Checked online today to look into fixing the problem and found out this is a recurring problem in other 2005 cavaliers. Dont understand why if so many peolpe are having the same problem why there hasnt been a recall on the make.

The instrument panel gauges started going out of whack. The temperature gauge needle moved all the way over to the right interfering with the speedometer needle, so that the speed does not show correctly. At first the needle went back down, but kept getting worse as time went on. The problem began about 2 weeks ago.yesterday, i had a diagnostic test run on it and the mechanics told me the whole instrument cluster panel needed to be replaced and would cost over $500, an amount i do not have at this time.

I have a 2005 chev. Cavalier and the speedometer has gone wack.it reads fine sometimes then out of nowhere it jumps or sticks.this problem is common and i have heard about this problem from probably 80% of cavalier owners.

The speedometer on my 2005 cavalier has been broken for about a month now. It usually stays around 0, but will sometimes get stuck at various incorrect speeds. I had the output sensor changed, and it made no difference. My mechanic hooked his computer up to the car and it says that nothing is wrong with it. I was told that changing the input sensor, which is inside the transmission will cost about $750 and take 11 hours to do. I have 2 mechanics looking for solutions, but they have found none so far.

Instrument cluster failure.

I own a 2005 chevy cavalier, it has approximately 53,752 miles and the speedometer quit working. It is stuck on 80 mph and when i drive it goes up to 110 mph. This is very dangerous because i don't know exactly how fast i am driving. This should be recalled because i have done a bit of research and have found there are many people experiencing this same problem. If there wasn't something wrong with the way the car is made then why would just about everyone have the same problem at approximately the same mileage on this make and model of car.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier. The contact stated that she had issues with speedometer getting stuck on an intermittent basis. It would reset itself and randomly become stuck again. Most recently, the temperature gauge was also failing and becoming stuck. It would indicate that the vehicle was too hot but when the contact turned off the vehicle and let it sit, it would continue indicating that the vehicle was overheating. The vehicle had not been inspected or repaired. The manufacturer had not been notified. The current mileage was approximately 153,000. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.

My gauges on my 2005 cavalier don't work at all and want to see if be fixed for free.

I just bought a 2005 chevy cavalier with 60k miles on it, one owner, and never missed a maintenance appointment. The car is immaculate. A few days after i purchased it the speedometer got stuck at 18mph and then dropped to 0 when parked. All other gauges work except the rpm's ... Neither the speedometer or tachometer has moved an inch since they dropped to 0. It is a serious safety concern. I went online to try to look up what the problem may be, and instead found blogs where 1000's of people are complaining of the same issue, same story on their 05 cavaliers. This definitely should be considered a recall! i am not sure how much this is going to cost, but it obviously is a continuous problem for most 2005 chevy cavalier owners, and chevy should take responsibility!

2005 chevy cavalier - most of the gauges on the instrument panel are wacky and don't work.this is a very common problem with chevy instrument panels.they have yet to recall any of them.instead we have people driving around not knowing how fast they are going and when they will run out of gas.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier. While driving approximately 35 to 55 mph on normal road conditions; pressure was applied to the accelerator pedal and there was an unintended increase in the acceleration. The engine revved extremely high which caused the abs, engine, and traction control warning light indicators to illuminate on the instrument control panel intermittently. Immediately after applying pressure to the brake pedal, the vehicle began driving normally. An independent mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The front driver and passenger power window mechanism also failed without warning. The window motor was replaced; however, when the window was activated the response time was slow which may have caused the window shield wipers to malfunction. The speed odometer and rpm gauges displayed inaccurate readings which could be related to the vehicle intermittently exhibiting reduce engine power. The contact had concerns of the safety risk involved. The vehicle has not been repaired. The contact had concerns of the safety risk involved. The vin was unavailable. The failure mileage was49,000 and the current mileage was 74,400.

2005 chevrolet cavalier speedometer inaccurate and does not function properly after 60,000 miles. Sometimes it does not work at all and other times its saying you're going 110mph when you are going at a snails pace. Still researching how to fix it and affordable. Search 2005 cavalier and numerous complaints with the same issue pop up. It failed on me while driving down the highway and had no ideal how fast i was going.

2005 chevy cavalier speedometer stopped working. On-line research from owners of this car shows that repair of the speedometer is not possible and the part alone is averaging $300. Again complaints are on the fact that the speedometer is not repairable.

My 2005 chevy cavalier speedometer (not digital) and rpm gauge doesn't work at all from time to time.it either shows i'm doing 0 m.p.h. Or it goes past 110 m.p.h and stays there even when the car is shut off.it hasn't shown the correct speed in which i'm traveling at anytime in the past 6 months or so.i've had to download a speedometer gauge app on my smart phone to get an idea of how fast i am going and even that is untrustworthiness.i've looked online for similar complaints and apparently there are multiple sources for the years between 2003 and 2006 experiencing the exact same problem.i've called multiple chevrolet dealerships about this problem and was told that it's a known problem and chevrolet most likely will never recall this defective equipment and was quoted a price that ranges from $700 to $1200 because the whole instrument cluster would need to be replaced.i for one do not think the consumer should bear the brunt of this cost as it is the manufacturer's (chevrolet in this case) problem who is responsible for installing faulty equipment from the assembly line.from all the online posts and others complaints about this problem i've seen that date back to 2007, i cannot imagine why this problem hasn't been addressed at all. If this isn't considered a safety issue as no one can really know for sure how fast they are going, i don't know what is.

Speedometer quit working, now i have no idea how fast i'm going, can never tell if i'm speeding or going too slow.that isn't safe is it.... Gm needs to issue a recall to their cavalier speedometers before someone gets hurt seriously!they also need to quit selling junk!!!!

The temperature gauge needle has gone so far to the right (and not registering correct temperature) that it interferes with the needle on the speedometer gauge therefore, the speedometer needle can only register up to 15 mph when you are actually going at least 45 to 55 mph. I have read the other complaints on your site and i would like to know how many you have to receive regarding this same problem before a recall will be issued? is everyone at nhtsa and chevrolet/gm just waiting in hopes that soon all of these cars will be off the road therefore, they will no longer be an issue? itruly believe this to be a safety issue, not knowing how fast or slow you are traveling and/or whether your car is burning up or not. This issue really needs to be addressed as soon as possible as i don't see these cars going away anytime soon, people are just continuing to drive them as they are, with the gauge problems. How many people will have to be injured or die in an accident because of this problem that everyone chooses to ignore before something will be done about it?? they cost too much to repair and it usually does not fix the problem. We own two of these cars, the other one is a 2004 and in addition to the speedometer not working properly the gas gauge is not working either!

Just purchased 2005 chevrolet cavalier....2 weeks as an owner...i have pictures of my car parked and the speedometer is reading 40-60mph..how is that possible? general motors should offer to fix this problem or give every owner of this type of vehicle a better car..i have no inclination as to how fast i am going on the expressway period..i feel that i am doing 55 but the speedometer is at 100 or better..this is ridiculous...i'm extremely upset because i am paying a note on this vehicle and am at risk, unwillingly and unpredictably for a ticket and accident because i have unsettling comfort driving due to an unreadable speedometer...someone has to make general motors do something about this..oh my goodness...i am a single mother of special needs kids who has to get around and this is an issue that i did not foresee when i put down for this car!!

Cluster that controls the gauges on the dash like gas, speedometer, and rpmgauges stopped working## vin passed ## 2005 chevrolet cavalier ##.

My 2005 chevrolet cavalier fuel and temperature gauges quit workingnow the tech is going haywire. I use a gps so i know my speed. This is a major problem. Cost is over $500. To replace all the gauges. Lost gauges one at a time.

Defective speedometer instrument cluster, speedometer malfunctioningwhen vehicle is in operation , speedometer will indicate various speeds like 110, 100.70, mphor stuck in a mphposition when vehicle is not in operation with engine off.

I own a 2005 chevrolet cavalier and the speedometer has not worked for quite some time now.now the gas gauge and the tachometer is malfunctioning, only to return to normal sporadically.the car is 5 years old and i don't believe i should be experiencing these problems.there are no recalls on the car, but i googled the problem and it seems that there are a handful of folks that are having the same problem with their cavaliers (between 2004 and 2005 models).this safety feature on the car should not malfunction.chevrolet should have a recall on these cars.

Speedometer needle is showing wrong speed, randomly shows all over the dial.

On the 26th of august my 17 year daughter was returning home from school when the speedometer quit working. I have to replace the cluster panel and have found out that this is a very common defect with my 2005 cavalier. I feel a recall needs to be made on this and those who have repaired this issue should be reimbursed their money and time for non-use of their vehicles. This is a very serious issue that could cause an accident, even deaths.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier. When attempting to drive the vehicle, the fuel, temperature, and speedometer gauges failed to work. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the instrument cluster gauges failed and needed to replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 53,000. The vin was not available.

I own a 2005 chevy cavalier and the speedo and temp. Gauge stopped working.this problem is always. No repairs had been made do to the cost of the part being $300+.

We have a 2005 chevrolet cavalier and the speedometer has completely quit working. Nothing has been done to the vehicle that would cause this to happen. Everything is just as it was when my husband purchased it new. We have not had anything don e to correct the problem.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier. The contact stated that the instrument cluster was defective. The temperature, fuel gauge, tachometer gave incorrect readings and the needles moved back and forth. The vehicle had not been inspected or repaired. The manufacturer had not been notified. The speedometer would not move from 50 mph.later in the day, the speedometer was moving up and down erratically.

I drive a 2005 chevy cavalier and all gauges have stopped working completely. It first started with the rpm's gauge about 10 months ago, then the speedometer about 6 months ago, now with the gas gauge just a few days ago. I can not longer tell how fast i am going, nor how much gas is actually in my tank. I propose a recall as i have seen many complaints of the same issues. I like to buy american and i feel if american auto makers want to keep their customers they need to step up the quality of products and service!

The entire gauge cluster no longer works and the speedometer was the first item to start failing while the car was still under warranty. The mechanics at the location where i bought the vehicleclaimed restarting the car multiple times would reset the needle back to where it belongs. This worked for a while, but i have since had to replace the item on my own for the same issue twice.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier.the speedometer became erratic and then failed.the contact was informed that the failure and repair were her responsibility.she paid $346.00 for the repair.the current mileage was 67,900 and failure mileage was 60,000.updated 01/17/08updated 01/17/08

2005 chevrolet cavalier ls sport coupe, speedometer does not work (does not show correct m.p.h.). I don't know how fast i'm going and based off of what i have been reading onlineabout this model vehicle the rest of the instrument panel might also fail. There are thousands of other cavaliers that have this safety issue and needs to be recalled as soon as possible.

The speedometer is not working it is all over the gauge, it freezes sometimes and other times it is pass the 120mph mark.

Speedometer defective, needle sticking at various speeds when vehicle is moving. ( 100 , 70, 64, 59 mph)really don't know what the actual speed of vehicle is when vehicle is begin driven.needle moves at anythingandsticks in position even after vehicle engine is turned off. Vehicle was taken to general motors repair shop on 10/06/09 , the diagnosis was a defective speedometer cluster.checked with general mirrors corporation , they have not issued a safety recall on this vehicle.

The odometer and speedometer don't reset when deceleration occurs. Has been going occurring on and off for the past few months with only the odometer. Today was the first incident when the speedometer malfunctioned. I was able to reset the meters by turning the ignition key on and off several times. After doing research, i have discovered that this seems to be a common problem with the 2005 chevy cavaliers.

I have a 2005 chevrolet cavalier. For the past few weeks the speedometer has been not working correctly. It will get stuck at 20 mph or it will just sputter up and so i am now constantly having to guess what speed i am going. I have read many forums of people with a2005 cavalier having the same problem. If this is happening on a lot of cars, it should not be the responsibility of the owner to fix it. This is very much a safety hazard and should not be happening to so many people, it obviously means it is a faulty part. Please consider looking into this problem since many people are having the same issue that i am.

2005 chevrolet cavalier instrument panel has serious problems temperature gauge shows the car is over heating and interferes with the speedometer also the speedometer will show 110mph while sitting in park or while doing 65mph drop and show no speed.also the front of the dash cracks out and can produce sharp pieces that can cut through the skin easily. Also the steering has the same problem as the 2005 cobalts at low speeds sometimes the car is very hard to turn.

Instrument cluster failure. Initially the temperature gauge only failed, now the fuel gauge has failed also, the only gauges remaining functional are the speedometer and tachometer. Local dealer says instrument failure is common problem.2005 chevy cavalier.

After only approximately 60,000 miles, the speedometer on my 2005 chevrolet cavalier is not reading correctly. Sometimes is sticks on any given speed, while other times it will just read about 10 miles an hour faster or slower than i am actually going. I researched the issue online and found that this is a very very common problem with cavalier owners. While the problem has not been the cause of an accident for me, it certainly has the potential to cause accidents for other owners of this vehicle. To view other complaints of the same issue for the chevrolet cavalier please visit the following link. Http://www.carcomplaints.com/chevrolet/cavalier/2005/electrical/speedometer_is_not_accurate.shtmlfortunately for me, my instrument panel will be covered under my extended warranty at a cost of only $100 to me. Others will be charged up to about $300 to correct the problem...or they will continue to drive their vehicles with a broken speedometer. Thank you for taking the time to look into this issue.

Speedometer gauge does not work.only way it works is to take out the fuse and reinsert the fuse. Fuse box is located on inside left driver side dash.i take out the fourth fuse on the bottom (10a )i have to do this everytime i stop the engine. This is a safety issue since one does not know how fast/slowone is driving.sometimes the speedometer shows 0 mph sometimes it will show 120+ mph. Based upon my internet research this is a very common problem. It is unfortunate that someone will have to be injured before a recall.i brought the automobile to a car mechanic who indicated i needed a new cluster.however, he could not promise me that it would fix the problem.

There are numerous complaints online concerning the 2005 chevrolet cavalier. Specifically, the gauges (tach, speedometer, temperature and gas) often quit working, either all at once or one-by-one. The loss of the gauges is a danger not only to the motorists, but also to everyone else on the road. I bought my 2005 cavalier brand new. At approximately 60,000 miles, my temp, tach and speedometer stopped working. Often, the temp gauge will swing in the wrong direction and interfere with the speedometer. Many days, my speedometer will not work at all; on other days, it will show a reading of 80 mph - even though the car is not moving. I do not feel this problem is a matter of normal wear and tear, which is what the dealerships tell those of us with these problems. Too many of us have these issues, which happen on both low mileage and high-mileage cars.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier. While driving 20 mph, the speedometer fractured along with the horn and the front passenger door latch. The vehicle was repaired by the contact. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was 56,000.

Speedometer, gas gauge and horn don't function or give incorrect readings.

I had test drove my vehicle and it was perfect, the seat didn't move and the seats weren't electric. I went home returnedto pickup vehicle and on the way the seats moved and became hot as though there was a heater in them.i mentioned it to the dealer a few days later and all he said, "we did not add anything to your vehicle". Someone did, and i would like that which was installed removed whatever it is.

I saw that my reverse tail lights were not lighting up when i put the car in reverse.i took it to the dealer where i bought the car michael automotive in fresno ca and they told me i would have to pay them $110 to have it diagnosed even though my car has less then 30,000 miles on it and bought it brand new less then 2 years ago. Due to the fact that it was in a minor fender bender. I told them it was not even rear-ended and it could not be the cause of the problem and they insisted it might be and to pay them. I took it to an independent electrical shop and they concluded that it was a switch board under the dash and in no way could have been hurt due to a minor wreck. I told the dealer this and he still refuse to fix it under my warranty. I had the repair done at an independent shop, and now chev. Will not reimburse me for the work, because they told me not having those lights "is not a safety concern" i think very much otherwise and every light on a car that tells other drivers my intentions is very important!

None of the gages work don't know how fast i'm going

I was driving on the highway at about 65 mph when my car unexpectedly increased it's speed to about 80-90 mph. I initially thought the caraccidentally some kind of way made cruise control come on. I am not a fan of cruise control so i wouldn't have turned it on. After the acceleration, i quickly attempted to get my car back down to normal driving speed because i was on the highway and did not want to crash with anyone by accident. I quickly stomped my foot on the brake. This did not help at all. Matter of fact, my brakes locked up too. I couldn't control the brakes nor the gas. The gas continued to accelerate. At this point, i am doing about 100 mph. I thought quickly and maneuvered my way out of traffic. I almost hit several cars but there was some type of protection around me because i didn't even have a single scratch on me or the car. The car continued to accelerate despite my several attempts to slow down. I was able to gain a little control of the car by putting the emergency brake up and placing the car in neutral. This only slowed the car down to about 80 mph. I had to turn the switch off the stop the car.i attempted to crank the car but the engine only revved up and made my car smoke. This was a very dangerous situation that was out of my control. I almost lost my life and may have been the cause of death for innocent families on the road. I know i am not the only person that has unexpectedly had this to happen.

On my 2005 chevrolet cavalier, the engine repeatedly cuts out, stalls, while idling or turning, especially in hot weather. It stalled out 5 times in 2 miles the other day and i had to leave it at the auto repair shop. It has been there a week and they cannot figure out why it is stalling. After going online and reading about many other people having the same problem with this car, 2004 and 2005 at least, i felt i should report it.

Speedometer stopped working at 32200 miles, went to dealer, said approximate cost is $500.00, talked with mechanic and he said it is very common problem on all gm mid 2000's cars and trucks. Checked online, found numerous complaints and a couple places that said gm is taking care of the problems on the trucks under 70,000 miles but not the cars.i consider the speedometer to be safety related on a car as well as on a truck and do not understand why gm will not take care of a problem that they have been aware of for a couple years.

The contact stated that the speedometer and both turn signal lights failed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. I purchased a 2005 chevy cavalier november 2004. I am the original owner. As of dec. 2009 my cars odometer has stopped working and the gas gauge is not accurate. Also my dashboard signals abs, trac off, and the service sign come on simultaneously. These signs come on when i am reversing the car and occasionally while driving the speed limit. These are all issues that are not normal wear and tear on a car but rather a defect. Therefore, i hope someone will look into this issue further.

Fuel gauge doesn't work all the timefuel gauge causes the temp gauge to hang up.

The gauges have stopped working the, fuel gauge, the speedometer, the temp gauges all stop working. I have a 2005 chevy cavalier.

I have a 2005 chevrolet cavalier and the fuel pump went out.i was on the freeway going about 60 mph and the car sputtered and died.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier. The contact observed that whenever fuel was dispensed into the fuel tank, the fuel gauge displayed inaccurate readings at any given fuel level capacity.the failure occurred intermittently.the vehicle has not been repaired at this time.the contact had concern of the safety risk involved.the failure mileage was 50,000.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier. While driving 45 mph, the vehicle stalled and the fuel gauge displayed the incorrect fuel level. While the vehicle was parked, a family member noticed fuel leaking onto the ground. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The dealer was not contacted. The failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 45,000.

Car would not start. Later car would stall out, not getting fuel. Car has same engine as my former 05 cobalt. I believe problem is in ignition wires, always had lights on in interior after starting engine. Now car must be sold for parts.

Thank you

I currently have a 2005 chevy cavalier that i purchased in 2005.within 6 months of having the car my back doors do not operate, do not open.my front doors recently have been having issues in not wanting to shut.there is something with the linkages.i have also had issues with the trunk, it blew off the wires and sounded like a bomb. And my dome light got to where it would not shut off so we removed the bulb.my radio does not shut off when door opens, it plays for 10 minutes afterwards. My car did not have shocks when purchased it, it is becoming one big headache. I drive only chevrolet vehicles but this car is making me want to drive something other then a chevy.is there any recalls on 2005 cavaliers?or what can i do. I can not afford a new car with working part time and this is not very safe.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier. While driving 20 mph, the speedometer fractured along with the horn and the front passenger door latch. The vehicle was repaired by the contact. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was 56,000.

I have a 2005 chevy cavalier and around the 70,000 mileage mark when my transmission shifter cable broke and i have noticed that there is a default with this cable, because there is a significant bend in the cable and over the time this cable will wear out and broke...causing me to purchase a new one...so im making a complaint to whom it my concern that there needs to be a recall on this cable and to be fix with out the bend in the cable....thank you

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the clutch dropped to the floor board and could not be disengaged. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed a hole in the hydraulic clutch hose. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

The clutch pedal stuck to the ground and failed, the car would not come out of gear.finally turned off the key and got the engine to stop.had just come off a major highway and was in a school speed zone so there was no accident, but a few minutes earlier the consequences could have been deadly.the clutch line snapped because there is a sharp piece of metal that lies next to it and rubs it.this car has a history of this happening at about 40k that i was not aware of.gm has not done a recall, but it is a common problem.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier.the contact attempted to stop the vehicle, but it failed to stop.he noticed that the hydraulic brake hose between the master cylinder failed.the risk of serious injury and crashed was increased.the contact is in the process of notifying the dealer.the failure and current mileages were 58,000.updated 05/06/09 the consumer stated there was no clutch tubing and it rubbed in two places. The consumer wife had no clutchand the pedal went to the floor. Updated 05/08/09.

Was in a parking lotwent to back up..clutch pedal went to floor and wouldn't move,, clutch line was cut by a small piece of metal ridingon the line..all the fluid leaked out disabling the car,, if going at high speed would have caused an accident,,no warning or warning lights..haven't had car fixed yet,,just happened,, will have old part.

The hydraulic line/hose that runs between the clutch master cylinder and the slave cylinder (transmission) chaffed on the brake lines and main electrical plug causing clutch failure while driving.

Clutch pedal failed to return and caused driver to loose control of vehicle. No injuryclutch hose line to slave cylinderwas positioned to close to brake line causing wear and eventual leak of fluidline is available for inspection.the previous week the car was inspected by handy chevrolet, the local dealer, and i was told it needed a new clutch and leak was not detected.other owners have reported similar problems on the internet.

Manual hydraulic clutch in 2005 chevy cavalier.rubber hose gets worn through by metal bracket resulting in loss of clutch. I brought this to the attention of chevrolet and they were of no assistance. I brought the vehicle in to a chevy dealer yesterday, 10-13-08 and showed the service manager and he said that he could not fix it because there was no recall on this item. It would have to be at my cost. I drove the car home and when i attempted to start it about an hour later the hose burst causing loss of clutch and the car jumping forward about 4 feet. There needs to be a recall!

Dt: the contactowns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier.the contact stated that by 3,300 miles the transmission had been repairedtwice and replaced once.by the current mileage of 19,000 it has had two additional transmissions replaced.the replacements and repairs have been done at no cost to the consumer.the car has been at the dealership since february 28, 2005, when the last replacement transmission was installed because the consumer was afraid to drive the vehicle.the consumer reported this problem to the nhtsa because she didnot want any one else to experience the same problems that she has encountered with this type of vehicle.the consumer wanted the dealership or manufacturer to provide a replacement vehicle at no additional chargeor to provide reimbursement for the cost of the vehicle.the dealershipoffered for the consumer to buy another vehicle and use this one as a trade in, but the consumer refused.the consumer states that the dealership informed her that she would still have to pay for the 2005 chevrolet cavalier as well asfor a new vehicle if she purchased one.

2005 chevrolet cavalier - (manual transmission) when clutch pedal was pressed to change gears while driving, pedal went to floor and stayed there. Could no longer use clutch to change gears. Car stayed in gear.problem was caused by the clutch master cylinder hydraulic line (hose) failing due to rubbing against a sharp metal electrical case. Gm dealer replaced the part (#24233064), but has not modified the routing of the part. Since the new part is routed against the same sharp metal part and is rubbing against it, the failure will occur again in the future.since the failure occurred suddenly and without warning, there failure could have caused an accident under different traffic conditions. (it is my opinion that the problem could be lessened, if the hydraulic hose routing was routed differently, or the sharp metal edge was slightly modified.)this car had 66261 miles on it, however, the part had previously been replaced at 31786 miles.please note that this compliant is related to the following previously filed complaints: odi id numbers 10237572, 10312149, 10163590, 10199524, 10200511, 10201764, 10231112, 10238456, 10239176,10245402, 10253573, 10260772, 10263228, 10276088, 10280611. (odi numbers 10237572, 10312149 involved crashes.)odi numbers 10150782, 10143646 may also be related.

Clutch failed in heavy traffic, cause was a rubber hydraulic hose was installed next to a sharp edge of chassis and hose eventually ruptured causing pedal to remain down and vehicle was not controllable i have reported this before and i have the part for inspection.

Clutch pedal fell to the floor without any warning while i was in heavy traffic almost causing a collision. The cause of the failure was that due to the poor design of the car the hydraulic clutch line was severed by a sharp piece of metal that holds an electrical housing. The line runs right a long the sharp edge of the metal and rubs against it until eventually it gets cut and all the fluid leaks out and the pedal has no pressure to engage and disengage the clutch, causing the vehicle to stay in gear and make it very hard to control.

My '05 cavalier, the hydraulic clutch hose got a hole in it from rubbing on the wiring harness that is next to it.this is something that i would assume be re-routed or better put in an area where this would not happen.

When pressing the clutch consumer tachometer goes to 3500 rpm and comes back down.. When in neutral at a traffic light the tachometer runs to 5500 rpm.when this occurred the consumer had to turn off the vehicle and turn it back on.the vehicle was taken to the dealer but they claimed the carpet had become entangled in the accelerator pedal.the dealer ran diagnostic test but found not problems.the consumer is still experiencing problems.

Cavalier coupe ls sport 2005:the driver's seat reclining system is unstable.you can feel it move and acting loose while driving.it was not like this when first purchased.the car was taken to the dealership and they could not do anything to make it stable again.their only response was, that this was normal, with time it becomes loose.it is unacceptable to make seats that feel fine at first, and a year later, become in that condition.you drive with your back rest unsteady and erratic.this can cause back/neck problem in the long-run.(also, the front seats are very uncomfortable, unpleasant especially if you have a long commute, it absolutely has no head-rest since they are leaned back too much, making it impossible to drive normally with your head rested against it.plus, the front seats reclining system won't allow you tilt it forward much, consequently driving rather leaned back more than usual, on your seat.)

The front seats move, they aren't electric, however they move ever so slightly and a few time they had moved to the rear taking my foot away from the brake pedal.

On october 1st 2015 we were stopped for road construction on the highway.at that time we were rear ended by a hit and run driver. Impact was on the bumper, passenger side. On impact the passenger seat broke and slammed me forward then back into a reclining position.i was taken to hospital by ambulance.i was in pt for 6 weeks. Also airbag did not deploy.

On two separate occasions the driver door would open without warning while driving 45-50 mph.the vehicle has been to the dealer.the dealer made some adjustments to the door.the mechanic informed the consumer that the vehicle had been hit before and the problem may continue due to the damages the vehicle had sustained. The driver door did not close after adjustments as well as the passenger door.the driver door would open while i the vehicle was in motion, material was coming out from under the dashboard, interior passenger door was damaged when purchased, and the back seat was discolored. *sc

Speedometer stops working and stays on 100 car only has 35,000 miles, also the power steering line broke open and the emergency brake at times pops onto my tire causing my car to slam forward and then it releases.i replaced the brake line and the power steering line but the main problem is the speedometer /cluster

Rear shoes only 50% worn after 153,000.handbrake starting grabbing uneven so had to have rear drums torched off.drums would not remove through normal means. Condition of hardware was found to be reusable. Drums warped/failed before shoes wore out.

I own a 2005 chevy cavalier. I have also experienced premature brake and rotor failure. At 39,000 km both had to be replaced. The dealer said the cause was road conditions etc,,and offered no help whatsoever complained to gmseveral times, but have not got any satisfaction yet!

Dt*: the contact stated since purchase the brakes have been replaced two times due to the rotors warping and a noise was heard coming from the rear brakes.the first brake replacement was at 3,000 miles on the vehicle.on may 23, 2006 while making turns at 20 mph, the steering wheel froze.in an attempt to free the steering, the contact pulled the wheel so hard that something broke within the steering column.the vehicle is currently at the dealership therefore, it is uncertain as to what repairs are necessary to correct the problem. There was a noise coming from the front of the vehicle. The dealer replaced the sway bar insulator. Updated 06/16/06.

I too experienced premature brake and rotor failure and had to replace both beforethe car was 2 years old.the dealership did nothing to satisfy me.i had to have them replaced right away and could not wait for an appointment with the dealership so i did just that.later, when discussing it with a service advisor, i was told it was the traffic in my area.yeah, sure.just because i am a woman he expected me to buy into that?i had 20,000 +/- miles on the car at the time!i don't at this moment have exact mileage and date information on me.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving various speeds a noise was heard and when depressing the brake pedal, excessive pressure was needed to stop.the vehicle jerked before stopping.it was driven to the dealer who determined the front rotors were rusted.the dealer machined the rotors to remove the rust.

I have a 2005 chevy cavalier.it had 49,000 miles.i noticed a squealing sound from by brakes.i immediately took it in thinking it was the brake pads.well, my whole brake system was leaking.my brakes system was also wearing unevenly causing half of the parts to be destroyed.one side of the brake pad was normal and the other side was thin as a wire.the guy told me that the car was completely unsafe and probably a result of a defect in my brake system.i knew of a friend of mine that had a similar problem at 20,000 miles.i contacted chevy and they told me that they could have done something but i traded it in.(i traded it in for a toyota because at this point regardless if the brake system got fixed, i was scared for my life to drive a car that almost the whole brake system went out after 2 years.)the car received all proper maintenance and i still have the receipt from the brake place.

Brake failure on my new 2005 cavalier.created a very terrifying ride home for my son, who was driving homewhen the failure occurred. Dealership service department informed me that the master brake cylinder was the source of the failure. They have corrected the problem, but have not returned my car to operable condition for me to drive, as of11-01-05/1:32 p.m.

Both my husband and i drive 2005 chevy cavaliers, his car as roughly 95,000 miles on it his problems started first. First the gauges have started to go. The speed-o-meter and gas gauge are never right. Next his steering wheel column has started to come loose. My car having no more than 60,000miles on ithas recently followed trend first my gas gauge went all the way around to being stuck in the middle, and then my gas gauge would get stuck and bump into the temp needle. This week i've noticed that my steering wheel column is coming loose too, my dashboard rattles and makes a noise like something is clunking around in there and i am worried this could lead to an accident i have looked online and noticed others have had issues with their cavaliers as well. Also, i saw that there was a recall# 08e063000 dealing with steering issues in the 2007 models. I have not however noticed a recall for the 2005 models.

2005 chevy cavalier is leaking and was repaired three times since my first report filed in nov. Of 2005. The carpeting was replaced duringthe second repair because of mildew smell. The car is now leaking again for the forth time and the carpeting is saturated under the front seats. It's been leaking since i first bought it brand new. I wanted to return the car the first time but the dealership wouldn't take it back, saying they could repair it. There was a service bulletin out on this model because of leaking problems. Three tries and it's still not fixed.

Could you at least investigate this and let me know what you find? thank you!

I bought a 2005 chevy cavalier in may of 2009 and the speedometer is now acting up. It really only acts up when it gets hot inside my car and/or when its hot outside. The speedometer gets stuck on various speeds and next thing i know its not working at all it stays on one constant speed even when i stop, now its below zero and is stuck there, when it cools down it works okay. I took it to the dealer i bought it from and the "answer" was the oil behind the needle gets "gummy" when it gets warm. What?

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier. While driving 40 mph, the vehicle began to shake and it suddenly accelerated. The contact applied the brakes; however, they failed to stop the vehicle from accelerating fifteen times. The contact called an authorized dealer who stated that they would diagnose the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired when the complaint was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 52,000. The current mileage was 83,002.

Faulty gauges cluster. The gas, temperature, speedometer, and rpm gauges stop working in a weekly basis for several days.

The speedometer doesn't register the actual speed of the car. I was driving at about 45 mph but the speedometer was reading 65 mph and up.

Car was at a red light speedometer indicated 85 mph. Upon start up speed indicated 110 and at next stop went down to 90. After letting the car sit for a couple days the indicated speed was 45. Driving in a 25mph zone and speed indicated 85.

At highway speeds, the speedometer needle on our 2005 chevrolet cavalier fluctuates wildly and is unreadable. Reducing speed greatly or changing rate of acceleration/deceleration will correct the problem temporarily, but it recurs every time the car passes 55 miles per hour.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cavalier. The contact stated that while parked, the speedometer read 90 mph erroneously. Later, the vehicle accelerated to 100 mph without warning. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by a dealer or independent mechanic. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 48,500.

I purchased a 2005 chevy cavalier new in december of 2004 and in march of 2013 the gauges stopped working. They would randomly work one or the other now all my gauges have stopped working all together. I have no clue how fast i'm going or how many rpms i'm using or if the car is overheating or not!

Dt*:the contact stated the location of the accelerator pedal caused the position of the seat to be too close to the steering wheel.the dealership determined this was how the vehicle was manufactured.

The windows has a default. The passenger back door glass shattered for no reason. The front windows was down and it shattered. And went allover my car.

Three of the four power windows have stopped working at the same time, and the fourth window barely works.

2005 chevrolet cavalier ls coupe, power window failure, sometimes will not operate, will not open or close .at this time, the right window is open in the down position cannot close, electric motor will not operate.

2005 chevrolet cavalier/power windows malfunction....owned for 4 months, let the window down one day at a drive-thru restaurant as usual and the window just stopped and never started again...still to this day it is still stuck in the down position..so now everywhere my family and i go we're at risk of our being burglarized because the car's interior is easily accessible..the window was an issue when i first purchased the used car thru cars and trucks in morrow, ga and they agreed to fix it and never did..so called chevrolet and was told that can be repaired for $120..which i don't have..it's just ridiculous..riding on the expressway and weather conditions both pose safety problems to my family and i..this car needs to be recalled, it's just got too many problems that seem to me as a consumer to be safety violations that are just being swept under the rug..

The front passenger side electric window does not work will not roll down will not roll up. The rear-driver-side electric window does not work will not roll down will not roll up, the rear passenger side electric window does not work will not roll down will not roll up.

Inside of the vehicle smelled mildew from water leaking insideof the windshield.dealership was aware of the problem, but did not resolve it.
