The air bag light illuminated.the vehicle has been taken to the dealer twice for this problem.the dealer has also replaced the air bags three times.*nlm

I was driving on the highway and a driver traveling well under the posted speed limit cut in front of me. I stepped on the brakes and the car started sliding and when i attempted turn the wheel to avoid collision, the wheel was locked and would not turn causing me to hit the car square in the rear. Upon impact, both airbags deployed. Airbags never touched me, but the driver's side cover shattered the windshield and the passenger side cover shattered the passenger window.

Was driving a 2002 chevrolet cavalier ls sport at 40 mph. When another vehicle pulled out in front of me,i ended up t-boning the 2nd vehicle at 40mph no time to hit brakes, all fontal damage and air bags never deployed.

Consumer was traveling 55mph on highway, there was vibration and pulsationondriver's side tire. Vehicle slid and the axle broke.wheel and rim came off, vehicle hit median, air bags failed to deploy, one person was injured in accident.

Defective air bags. Dealer was contacted, andvehicle has been at repair shop twice, air bags have been replaced . *nlm.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet cavalier.while driving 17 mph, the accelerator pedal extended to the floor when it was depressed.she depressed the brake pedal, but the vehicle failed to stop.the contact drove into a ditch to avoid being hit by a tractor trailer that was traveling 95 mph.the entire passenger side of the vehicle was destroyed from the rear to the front end.the air bags failed to deploy.five passengers sustained injuries.a police report was filed.the current mileage was 129,000 and failure mileage was 100,000.

At a speed of 35-40 mph hitting a firebird in the rear,my airbag failed to deploy causing me to hit my head.either my bumper is designed to low for a straight on impact causing the hit to slide up over the sensor and crush the hood or the sensor is positioned poorly or malfunctioned entirely. My radiator was pushed into the engine,if the bumper was not hit how could the radiator go into the engine.

I was involved in a major accident which resulted in the totaling of my 2002 chevrolet cavalier. Although there was considerable front-end damage the airbags did not deploy.

My airbag system has been worked on 6 different times and is now flashing the air bag lights again.this is a serious safety issue and should be looked into.

During first snow in dec 02, the abs in my 2mo old car activated for the first time. The normal pedal vibs occured, but there was a patterned pinging of a spring at the pedals location.all braking power was lost during this, and i had to run a red light because i could not stop, even after pressing the brake again, with the same effect (this also occured while pulling into my garage on a dry surface, so i had to use emergency brake to keep from running into the back wall).i took the vehicle to the dealership, where they checked it twice on the road, and once with the sensor checks (no codes were found, they said).of course i had them document this.on jan 21 '03, i was forced to slam on my brakes because the vehicle in front of me stopped too fast.although the pedal felt pressurized as it should be, there was again no braking power, although the abs did not activate.no decelleration was felt until i slammed into the back of the vehicle in front of me (at approx. 30mph).noone was injured although there is $4000 worth of damage to my car (and the airbags did not deploy although the front censor was impacted hard).there is definately something wrong, but the dealership could not duplicate the problem.

While traveling 35 mph and as a result of being cut off by an suv, passenger's side air bag deployed, but driver's side air bag didn't deploy. Manufacturer has been contacted.the driver of the vehicle suffered injuries.the injuries included unconsiousness, broken sternum, seat belt abrasions, contusions, concussion to name a few.the crash was considered a full frontal impact to the side of the suv involved.*jg

I was broadsided while makinga left turn into a shopping center on july 8, 2005.my passenger side doors were completely pushed in.the car was considered a total loss by the insurance company.driver's air bag and passenger air bag did not deploy.i suffered serious damage to my stomach area, resulting in 3 days of non-stop vomiting.

My airbag system has been worked on 6 different times and is now flashing the air bag lights again.this is a serious safety issue and should be looked into.

Vehicle shut down on highway, other vehicle on highway exceeding speed of 50 mph.the consumer is suing turnerville auto complex for repairs made to an unsafe vehicle.the vehicle defect in the enhanced traction system or ets system. The vehicle had to be towed to the nearest dealership. *tc

Both rear tail lights do not function properly.when using the left turn signal it will blink for a short time then go stationary.new bulbs are put in regularly but the socket is loose and will not hold the bulb securely resulting in the blinkers not working most of the time.my husband is a mechanic so i had him replace the bulbs when it first happened, he did this in the evening, the next day i used the blinker if worked fine for my first turn then the second turn it was a fast blink which indicates that one or more bulbs are burned out which was not the case when he looked at the bulbs again later that evening.i can't tell you how many times we have changed these bulbs and still nothing is working.i am afraid of having an accident due to the fact that most people don't recognize hand signals for left and right turns.i have called the dealership but they want over $100.00 for a new socket.i don't feel like i should have to replace them at my cost when this has to be some sort of manufacturers defect.

The consumer experienced problems with the vehicle's enhanced traction system (ets).when the traction light would come on the vehicle would completely shut down, which occurred on numerous occasions. *sc

Going to the bank to use an atm machine...rolled window down, but the window would not roll up...earlier i had my car worked on due to cracked dash...when i first bought the car spoiler was replaced, but it is starting to crack again...when i drive it in the rain and go to use the brakes it slide to the right and seems to lock up on the front passager side...nothing was done to fix the brake, because the dealer looks at me as if i am crazy...the dash was replaced...

According to the overland park police department an electrical fire started near the passenger floor board on my sons 2002 chevrolet cavalier z model. The car was totally engulfed before fire/rescue could arrive. I want to make sure that this is not a problem with the vehicle that can injure others.

While driving the electrical system shuts down, making the vehicle inoperative. Dealer notified, the first time dealer stated it was a fuel sensor problem. The second time they said the problem would be unable to duplicate. The third time dealer stated that they were still working on repairing the problem. Please provide more information. Ph

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet cavalier. The contact stated the vehicle had been parked for approximately 4 hours when a fire started under the dashboard. The contact stated the vehicle was removed by his insurance company and he could not confirm if the vehicle was destroyed or what started the fire. The vin was not available.the failure and current mileages were 80,000. Updated evoq 06/08/10.

Key get stuck in ignition in the on position. Cannot shut the car off or remove the key. Must pull ignition fuse to shut off engine and then disconnect the battery. Gm acknowledge this as a problem in 2014 but never issued a recall.

My 2002 cavalier had the fuel pump go. When the garage fixed it they said the cluster doesn't work. They kept trying to imply that it was already broke but it wasn't. I had 2 light bulbs gone but that's it. They replaced it and within a week the same 2 light bulbs are burnt out and the odometer numbers now flicker constantly. There must be a wiring problem. Seeing fires starting in a couple cavaliars makes me really concerned. For a few years now, the radio changes everytime i turn the car on and the light by the heater control doesn't work unless you tap on it. Somethings not right and i'm trying to find a solution. I can't afford to pay a garage to tear my car apart.

Power windows fail - this is the third time that i am returning my car to the dealer, nessinger chevorlet, medford, ny for the same issue within a timeframe of less than a year.this time it's for the drivers side window, for the second time.the first time they told me it was the motor that failed, can't wait to see what they tell me the problem is this time, i'm sure it will be something else for them to charge me with.this window is open and will not close. This car is only three years old, i don't understand why this keeps happening.i find this totally unacceptable not to mention a major inconveinence.

When the cd player have been on for a few minutes it will stop playing because it have got over heated.an i cannot used it for a long time.

Compressor never worked when the car was bought.left rear turn signal continually shorted out, a wire needed to be replaced.driver side front window motor had to be replaced.

Dt*: the contact stated the displays on the instrument cluster intermittently go off while driving. The display that goes off most frequent is the electronic odometer. The vehicle was taken to the dealership however they have been unable to duplicate the problem.the manufacturer was alerted. Updated 8/16/2006 -

Car would just not turn over.can not hear fuel pump running.

Consumer noticed while driving on wet pavements enhanced tracking system came on. This causedthe driver to lose control of the vehicle.

Trac off warning light ets (electronic traction system) came on. Repairs did not correct the problem with the ets.nar*jls this caused the vehicle to completely shut down while in motion.the consumer was informed that the fuel injection system had to be replaced an cleaned but could not guarantee that this would correct the problem in which it did not.the consumer requested reimbursement for the repairs. *sc

Purchased vehicle from dealer 7/12/13 with the following issues:non-working odometer, blinkers, brake lights that frequently "short" out & a non-working windshield fluid function.i was informed by the dealer to take vehicle home & return it the following day for the repairs of all the above notations that were discovered during a test drive.upon the time of return, i was sadly & rudely approached by the dealer.he stated that he did not claim to fix these issues?on 7/17/13, i filed a "complaint" with the better business bureau regarding this poor business transaction.all of which, i have proof. Despite my endless efforts to correct this issue, nothing significant has been done on my behalf.i have been pulled over a number of times, because of my failing brake lights - which have been replaced on multiple occasions.i have had close encounters of potential dangerous situations, where my blinkers have failed & being stuck "not" knowing how much mileage i have on my car.this is a major safety issue i cannot get resolved & am hopeful that you may assist.

The traction off warning light illuminated which caused the vehicle to shut down.the vehicle was taken to the dealer who replaced the fuel pump and fuel injection system but the repairs made did not correct the problem with the enhanced traction system.the consumer feels that since the repairs did not correct the problem he should be reimbursed the full amount.*sc

While accelerating on an on-ramp onto an interstate, i was using my multi-function device (signaling my merge into traffic, then once at 65mph setting cruise control) when the car lost power.i was able to turn the steering wheel slightly to the right before the wheel locked.i turned my emergency flashers on and coasted/braked my way to the shoulder of the road.the car was towed to a mechanic who tried to find the source of the problem.the incident was on a saturday.on monday when the shop was open for business, they tried the car and it started/ran just fine.they couldn't duplicate the problem so they charged me for the tow only.previously, the car would fail to start.similarly dead.i have been told it was the ignition - replaced that twice.i was told it was the fuel pump - replaced that.i was told it was the multi-function switch-replaced that three times.winter 2013 the car started fine and then a block from home all power went out and engine failed to start up again.towed car to electrical specialist.they ran diagnostics and found that there was a rusted out wire. Replaced the wire. It happened again six months later.they replaced another wire.i've notice the car will think a blinker is out before the whole electrical system just fails.

There were enhanced traction system problems which were continuous.the fuel pump was replaced and did not resolve the problem with the ets. The trac off warning light had come on and caused the vehicle to completely shut down.the battery warninglighthad also come on. *sc

2nd cavalier where could not get horn to sound in emergency situation.

Bought my 2002 chevrolet ls sport cavailer on 5/27/02. Since then the rack and pinion went in march 2003--which they did not discover until may, and when driving i get a loud grinding noise still which is metal on metal. I asked another mechanic not affiliated w/ the authorized dealership (that told me after 5 attempts this can not be fixed-and that they have a pi out on it), if this could pose a problem. He said the continuous grinding w/ metal on metal when steering, can cause too much friction and heat up and potentially cause a fire, etc. I am having my husband drive this vehicle that only has 13,300 miles now. I am scared to drive it, and the dealership, nor gm can tell me or sign off in in writing that this won't cause a problem. They (gm) believe steering problems, and noises you hear when steering like metal on metal are not dangerous. I was told that gm knows this is a defect by the dealership and gm now itself called me and told me, but they won't do anything about it. Why doesn't the regional mgr for gm drive my car then, and tell me that--since she makes all decisions that this is not a problem that could be dangerous, and hence won't do a thing about it. Seems like the dealership and gm says it's a problem, but i have to keep paying on a car that i won't drive. Besides the continual grinding in my steering, and the failure of the rack and pinion that they fixed, the horn died 2 times as well.

I got the car brand new and i have always had problems starting the car.it is not everytime but sometimes i have to try 4 or 5 times just to get it to start.my seat belts no longer retract.i'm not a fat person , and i don't know anyone big enough to ruin my seat belt retractors.my rear defroster barely works, and my passenger side powerwindow motor already went bad.i am very dissatisfied with this car.

Hard start/no crank regarding ignition.burning smell.......from engine..2002 chevy cavalier.

My car has a tendancy to not start.i sat in a prking lot once for 10 minutes trying to start my cavalier.it started when the car only had 100 miles on it.i have complained to the dealership on at least 4 different occasions, only to be told they do not find any problems.i want this resolved!!

This car has had many electrical problems, windows, sunroof and ignition.mr

I have a 2002 chevrolet cavalier and i almost had a bad accident with this car. The ignition switch and wheels locked up on me and i was still in one place and a eighteen wheeler ran into me. I have been having trouble with this car everytime i look up.

Transmission noise/idle problem. I have two major complaints about my cavalierfirst: the 5sp manual transmission. I've complained about the transmission 5 times, and the idel 4 times. When i bought the car it had a high pitched noise in 1st and 2nd gear. I took the car back the first weekend i owned it to have it checked. Dealer couldn't diagnose. I took the car back a couple of months later. They heard the noise and said it was the exhaust. They put a new exhaust system on it. Needless to say it did not fix it. I took the car back again a few months later, they said it was synchronizers. Tsb 02-07-29-001 serviced. Again, the car was not fixed. But this time chevy told me it was supposed to do that. (why on earth would they replace parts, and do the tsb if it was supposed to do that) they told me i could get a second opinion, but i would have to pay the servicing dealership out of pocket.second: i've complained about this 4 times. When driving in bumper to bumper traffic. I have to slightly rev the gas to let the clutch out to make the car move. The idle will stick. I've had it stick anywhere from 2500rpm - 4000rpm. (the linkage/pedel dosen't stick but something within the computer, or fi is not right. Dealers diagnosis "computer controls the idle" "no codes" "no problem". Nothing further was done. This problem has caused me to almost rear end other cars on multiple occassionsnow other than these problems i've also had to complain about the starter. It works 99% of the time correctly. Other times it grinds, sometimes disengages, turns off, and sounds like a dead battery. The dealer also can't find this problem either.

Bought a 2002 chevy cavalier oct.2007, have had the car in for repairs to the transmission a total of 7 weeks. The problem seems to be electrical and cannot be fixed. Each time i get it back it works for some time then fails and is taken back. It is currently at the henna chevy olds dealership in aiken, sc.

While driving reverse bulb exploded, causing back up lightsto catch on fire.

2002 cavalier- rear right turn signal and stop light become inactive- i thought that the bulb burned out. When i replaced the bulb, it stopped working again after a while. I put electrical grease into the socket as advised by my dealer, but it stopped working nonetheless. When i pulled out the bulb and re-inserted it, it worked again for short time.i have to pull out the bulb to break the circuit, and then insert the bulb back again every few blocks. The turn signal will work for a little bit, but it will stop, especially when i turn on my dashboard ventilation on high. I have had many near-misses of being rear-ended when making a turn.apparently, the defective bulb housing has been a recall issue for the 2001 and 2003 cavalier due to accidents. The bulb housing is the same design and produced by the same manufacturer from 2001 to 2003, but my dealership refuses to acknowledge that there are any issues with it.

Dt:the consumer complained that the 2002, chevrolet cavalier had a dash cluster problem.the dash cluster had to be repaired, and the consumer could not tell them how much gas she had.the consumer wanted satisfaction and the truth about the vehicle. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer and had it repaired.the consumer said that the individual changing the oil told her that the car was too new to have these problems. Also, there was anoxygen sensor problem.the consumer had a new one put in.the consumer noticed that there was something wrong before the car was diagnosed and the gas lever was working.she didn't know if she contacted gm or not.she contacted a dealer.the dash cluster was inoperative along with the gauges not working since the #2 sensor was replaced and the engine and the traction light had illuminated.*sc

Dt: contact states the lights on the dashboardkept going out, eventually the vehicle stalled. Dealership stated there was bad gasoline in the fuel system.the contact states the parts were taken to a different mechanic, he stated the fuel lines were fine.

Due to electrical problems in the vehicle, the dealership informed the consumer that the wires under the dashboard had melted. The problem has been repaired. Please provide more information.

While drivingat any speed, the traction control warning light would illuminate. The consumer pulled over and restarted the vehicle.please provide more information.

Dt*:the contact stated without warning, the vehicle looses power while driving.after a few minutes, the vehicle restarts.the vehicle is driven a short distance and it looses power again.this continues until the vehicle reaches the dealership.the dealership has replaced the fuel pump on three separate occasions.no other repairs have been attempted.updated 02/21/06.

Consumer purchased a vehicle for daughter, and vehicle exhibitedseveral major problems.vehicle overheated, and had a new thermostat and fuel filter replaced.when trying to start the vehicle it acted as if didnot want to start. Vehicle was just not firing correctly because it wasvery difficult to start. Consumer wanted to know if there were anyrecalls on this vehicle.the vehicle became even more difficult to start and the coolant and temperature gauges were illuminated.when the coolant was checked it was at a normal level but looked like something other than coolant was in the tank.the oil was checked and looked like brown merky liquid.

The driver was driving vehicle stalled.the driver tried to restart, but was unable to.the consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection.the mechanic informed the driver that the problem can not be duplicated.please fill in additional information.

While driving consumer heard a knocking noise comingfrom underneath the vehicle.consumer was able to drive the vehicle to sears mechanic shop, andmechanic determined that motor mount broke and cracked in half, causing theengine to drop down half shaft.consumer contacted manufacturer about the problem, and manufacturerinsisted thatconsumerwas responsible to pay forparts and labor because warranty expired.

Timing chain broke on 2002 chevrolet cavalier ls causing catastrophic engine failure.automobile only has 70,000 miles on a well maintained motor.gm installed faulty oil nozzle as well as timing chain tensioner in motor originally but refuses responsibility even though checked at gm certified service center 4 months prior complaining of timing symptoms.no repair has been done at this time.after much research it seems that this is a common problem in all vehicles from 2002 and 2003 that have 2.2l ecotec motors.

I bought this car a 2002 chevy cavalier in 2005, and at the time there was 25k original miles so i was told. Since then i have found out there has been 5 recalls on this car for various safety hazards, none of which i was ever told about prior or during my purchase of this vehicle. The signals have failed, i had to pay for them to be replaced, the bearings on the tires caused dry rot and i had to pay to replace those, both were on the recall list. The engine would over heat in the idle position, and they replaced an air filter sitting that as the problem and it wasn't. The pedal sticks when i accelerate and sometimes gets stuck, the rockerarms have started to go bad and it has caused the valve stems to bend, thus causing the oilpump to seize up and now my cars engine has a blown gasket, this is under the engine component system recall, which was reported in 2007. I was never notified. And now im paying 350 per month for a car that is not running.

Compressor never worked when the car was bought.left rear turn signal continually shorted out, a wire needed to be replaced.driver side front window motor had to be replaced.

Nar 9-10-03. Safety defect in 2002 chevy cavalier.engine coolant leak.

I started my car in the am and noticed my trac light was on(knowing it is not suppose to be on unless i am in 1st or 2nd gear. Then i smelled burning electrical. Took it to the chevy garage and found out my engine coolant fan internally shorted, they replaced the fan motor, a sensor an element and a fuse kit.at a substantial cost. I was without my car for 3 days and had to rent a vehicle to get back and forth to my job and home.

While driving 60 mph, the service engine light came on and the engine stalled. The dealership serviced thevehicle, and replaced several components, but the problem still continued.. The fuel filter and oxygen senor was replaced however the problem continued. The consumer believed the problem was electrical.

Engine check light stayed on. When driving lights turned off then flickered. Also, windshield wipers and automatic locksoperated poorly.vehicle was takento dealership on several occasions for the same problems.on for occasions consumer was driving when vehicle headlights went out.another problem consumer is experiencing is the windshield wipers come to a complete stop while in use.there is also a problem with the door locks.vehicle has been serviced on various occasions for electrical problems.during one service visit the body control module was replaced and the theft deterrent system was programmed.even after several service visits vehicle still experiencing problems with windshield wipers, door locks, turn signals, and hazard lights.*mr

Consumer engine makes a popping sound as if it is going to exploded. The consuemr replaced the timing gear, chain, tensioner, and pulley on 2/22/2005.the vehicle continues to make loud noises.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet cavalier.the engine light illuminated intermittently.the dealer was informed that the oxygen sensor needed to be replaced.the contact was charged $600 for the repair.she took a long trip and the light did not illuminate.on a shorter trip, the engine light began illuminating intermittently again and the vehicle overheated.when the vehicle was turned off and restarted, it operated normally.while driving 10 mph to the dealer, the engine failed and the dealer stated that the repair would cost $5,000 and could not guarantee that the vehicle would actually be repaired.the contact learned that the head failed before at 28,000 miles.she believes that her vehicle was mis-diagnosed the first time. The current and failure mileages were 54,000.updated 01-10-08. 12/31/07.

Engine and vehicle speed sometimes, but intermittently, do not respond to driver control - vehicle accelerates on its own.when that happens, had to ride brakes to control speed.this happened five times with increasing severity over a period of time - on the sixth time the vehicle reached 60mph without the accelerator being touched.review of odi compliants shows an increasing number of similar related complaints on this model with age.had purchased car to give to my newly licensed daughter, who, due to lack of experience, was initially unsure if the problem was with her or the car.the last time scared her, and the dealer's rep said "it was an accident waiting to happen".dealer did a good job in persisting with the problem, which was finally (after two days) traced to the accelerator control cable dust cover coming loose and wedging itself between the cable an actuator in a difficult to detect location.

We were told the car was inspected before we bought it!head light out of adjustmentbrake and tail lights not workingengine stared running rough few hours after we drove offa cd was found stuck in the playerdoor needed alignmentparking brakes not working right.

Vehicle stalls without warning. Dealer is aware of problem.

There was a lot of popping and cracking noise, thatwas how this was noticed.

Timing chain broke at about 45 mph, causingengine to fail.results determined by the dealer showed that timing chainshattered, tearing up the engine.

When entering car, there was a very strong mold smell, consumertook vehicle to dealer, and they resealed the seals, replaced padding, and cleaned carpeting. Odor was present, and consumer was alergic to mold..

The wire that connects to the air conditioner is too short and will intermittently cause the ac to kick in.when the ac kicks in this will cause the vehicle to surge forward.there is a technical service bulletin about this problem, but the manufacturer will not do any thing about it.*ph

When the cd player have been on for a few minutes it will stop playing because it have got over heated.an i cannot used it for a long time.

Cd player stops working when it gets hot.replaced cd player/radio-same problem.

2002 chevy cavalier ls the tag on the drivers side door frame with the recommended tire size and psi information has worn off .... My calls to gm have resulted with them saying 5 psi below max pressure on the tire that would put the tire pressure at 45 psi which seems insane... As a person who has had a tire blow out on the interstate i am concerned with this answer. It seems to me this is a safety issue for every one who owns these cars and the tag has worn off ... Inside the owners manual it says to follow the recommended psi on the tag to avoid excessive tire wear and possible road hazards. Shouldn't the tag still be intact after 3 years.

Just purchased a 2002 chevy cavalier for our daughter and have been trying to find out if any of the 5 recalls were performed on this vehicle or not. The nhtsa recall page isn't working at this time and the chevy local dealership isn't willing to help. Can someone please provide some assistance??

I was never notified. And now im paying 350 per month for a car that is not running.

Problem with electrical system that operates rear blinkers and brake lights. I have changed bulb which are not the problem. I have changed the electrical connectors. Works fine for short period of time when either of these are changed but still not fixed. Started with passenger side but now having issues with driver's side. Online forums suggest many others are having this issue as well. Cant find a permanent fix. Please help. Is not blowing the bulbs, just stops working for no apparent reason.

My 2002 chevy looks like it needs a fuel pump. 3years ago i had this same problem and the tow said it was the fuel pumpand i had the fuel filter changed now since then it ran ok. I still experienced hesitation but after hearing the complains. I want to add my concern.

The engine quits running while driving at highway speeds without any warning. After pulling off to the side of the road, the engine may restart immediately or after a few minutes. A technician diagnosed this as a faulty fuel pump.

My car is two and a half years old and has a lot of highway miles. I had 80,000 miles on the car (i have been able to log well over 220,000 miles on past cars over 5-6 years due to highway mileage). One night while driving home the "trac-off" light would come on and the car would occasionally lose speed. Eventually the trac off light stayed on the car began to die out along the side of the role. As a result i had my car towed in and the fuel pump was replaced. Total costs were well over $800.00. I wrote to gm but was rejected on reimbursement. The fuel pump problem seems to be a common problem as i've looked at complaints the firestone auto repair center said the design/placement of the fuel pump has caused them to burn out.

We bought this cavalier in july of 2002, at about 3500 miles we started having transmission problems.it has been in the shop 5 times for the same problem.in the meantime the computer crashed on it twice.they had to fix it twice.they finally got the transmission fixed and then at the end of april 2003 the transmission started leaking fluid.i took it in and they got it fix.makes 6 times this car has been in for transmission problems.

Vehicle currently has 37,000 well maintained miles on it. At about 25,000 miles a faint noise began tocome from the transmission.it was only noticed atlow speeds while decelerating. Now it is faint at highway speeds and very noisy at low speeds. It sounds like a turbo-charger spinning up and down. Mr. Goodwrench has never heard it before and gm powertrain engineers say it is normal.i say it isn't.if it were normal, it should have been there when i bought the car new with 200 miles on it. This is the 4th j-body car i have owned and the second with this transmission and i have never heard this noise.this is a well documented complaint and no one is listening.i have been a very loyal gm owner who may well have just purchased his last gm.

There were enhanced traction system problems which were continuous.the fuel pump was replaced and did not resolve the problem with the ets. The trac off warning light had come on and caused the vehicle to completely shut down.the battery warninglighthad also come on. *sc

On above time and date, i was traveling down a street at 25 mph when i heard a loud popping sound come from my driver seat.it caused me to shift towards the passenger seat, causing me to briefly swerve on the road. Fortunately, there were no other cars on the road at that time.since i was near my home, i then parked my car and inspected the seat.apparently, the backing of the seat (upper portion) and the spring assembly has snapped. Visually, you can see the springs pushing out of the back.this is a brand new car with 575 miles, seats shouldn't just break like this. What would of happened if i were in an accident? i thought the nhtsa should be made aware of this problem before someone does get hurt.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet cavalier. The contact was sitting idle at a traffic stop when a vehicle crashed into the rear of his vechile. The failure and the current mileages were approximately 57,000.

I was rear ended. I was at a full stop. My seat broke. I ended up in a reclining position. The accident scene investigator-police officer told me this was a defective part and that should not have happened.the emergency room doctor said i sustained more injury because the seat broke and if i was hit any harded, i could have been thrown out the back window even though i was wearing my seatbelt. I fear that others may end up injured even more seriously.

This vehicle was involved in a collisin in which another vehicle hydroplaned head-on and then onto the rear driver side of this 4 door chevrolet cavalier.my daughter was inher booster seat that was anchored in the middle of the back seat.the upright part of the back seat was detached from the bracket which allowed all the luggage in the trunk to come forward.this then pushed the booster seat to the side with all the luggage up against her.

Brake lines are corroded way too early. Began leaking. I'm trying to replace them myself, because i don't have 1500-2000 dollars for parts and labor. Luckily the brakes pedals went to the floor in the driveway when i found the leaks.

Car shakes when applying brakes, took the car to repair shop to have the brakes checked out. He stated that he rotors used are too thin ,and there is nothing that he can do to fix this problem. Rotating them will be only a temporay solution. His advise was that i should take it to the dealer and complain.

My rotors were first checked approximately march 2003 when i complained of them car shaking when i applied the brakes.the car had approximately30,000 miles at the time.the dealer where i bought the car stated that they needed to be turned which i agreed but said it was only a temporary fix and i would probably be back.so in july 2003, at approximately 35,000 miles, i returned complaining about the same thing.at this time, they were two thin to be "turned" and i need new ones.which i had to complain in order to get new ones because they were going to charge me for them.(september 2003)a friend of mine bought a 2003 cavalier which they have had approximately 5 months with 20,000 miles and they had to have their rotors turned already.they complained to the dealer because they didn't get them fixed at the dealer and the same dealer as mine said they couldn't do nothing about it because she took it to another place but they would have replaced them.she told them that as soon as they were shaking again that they would bring it in fornew rotors.plus i have heard other complaints about rotors on cavaliers after i bought mine concerning brakes.they need to do something about this - recall!!!

Front rotors warped prematurely, about every 10000 miles.grinding noise heard at low speeds, whether in gear or coasting & not brake related.premature fuel pump failure, causing engine to shut off.

The brake rotors had to be replaced five times in the last three years due to defect.

Since purchasing my 2002 cavalier i have had to have my rotors turned (2) times and they are in need of it again (third time). I have only put 39450 miles on my car and after the second time i began to be very careful about braking for any length of time. I have been downshifting when going down hills instead of applying my brakes. I would like to know why this is occurring so frequently. I have only had to replace my disc brakes one time. I have never had a vehicle in which i had to have the rotors turned so frequently. Especially since approx 10000 miles are highway miles where very little braking occurs.

At approximately 30000 miles my car would shake or bounce, sometimes violently, when the brakes were applied.the brake pads and rotors were checked and it was determined that the rotors were warped, though the pads were ok.the rotors were turned and everything seemed fine for a couple of months until the problem returned.again the rotors were turned, and this time the pads replaced.but a few months later the problem returned yet again.now the rotors have to be replaced, as well as the pads.a co-worker said he had the same problem on his 2002 cavalier.he was told at a chevy dealership that the rotors were too small on the car and warped easily due to this defect.this seems to me to be a major safety issue since rotors that are too small may cause a brake failure.

At 13,000 miles my car would shake violently when applying the brakes.the dealer said the rotors were warped, the dealer turned them and the shaking stopped.the dealer said this component was only warranted for 12,000 miles, but repaired the car at no cost.at about 26,000 miles the car began to shake again when the brakes were applied.an independent mechanic said the rotors were again warped, but they could not be turned because this would make them too thin.he recommended replacing the rotors with an after market set due to the fact the gm rotors seem to warp prematurely.

When braking consumer heard a grinding noise coming from the rear brakes. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

I own a 2002 chevrolet cavalier and was driving down the road the road bends to the left (slightly) the speed limit was 30 mph i proceeded to negotiate the turn at 20-25 mph which i have done thousands of times the car came out of the turn and would not recover the steering went out and the car went out of control striking a tree and injuring myself the car was a total loss. *nlm

Bought the car on 5/27/02. Since then the rack and pinion failed in march 2003, the dealership realized it was a problem only in may 2003. The steering grinds metal on metal when driving----the horn died 2 times, their was and still is a pulsation in the brakes--a rattling in the suspension. Gm put out a pi (product investigation out on it)--said their is no fix, but steering problems are not dangerous, and they will not do anything, i have filed complaints here, w/ the bbb auto-line, and nhtsa as well as hired my own personal lawyer as i heard gm fights people tooth and nail.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet cavalier.while driving approximately 50 mph on normal road conditions; the steering column and wheel exhibited severe looseness.immediately, the vehicle speed rate was reduced and continued operation with caution.there were no prior warnings of the failures. The driver experienced extreme difficulty steering the vehicle.the vehicle has not been repaired for the malfunction at this time. The contact had concern of the safety risk involved. The failure and current mileages were 100,000.

When turning steering wheel could hear grinding noise.dealer greased the problem which went away for awhile.when the noise came back the dealer said the steering gear needed to be replaced.this car has 58000 miles .the steering has become extremely dangerousand saftey hazard.

Had a problem with steering, noticed it before i purchased the car, the dealer said they would fix it. What they did was install rack and reset alignment.the car was fine after this for about a month and then started having the same problem again. The dealer is saying now it is a different problem, but i am still having the same kind of steering problem.and so they want me to pay for the repair, even though they haven\\'t fixed the original problem.

Just purchased a 2002 chevy cavalier for our daughter and have been trying to find out if any of the 5 recalls were performed on this vehicle or not. The nhtsa recall page isn't working at this time and the chevy local dealership isn't willing to help. Can someone please provide some assistance??

Driver was heading south on i684, on the exit ramp to 287 west, in heavy traffic. Vehicle suddenly appeared to shut off, making it impossible to steer and brake. Driver ran off the road and went nose first into a ditch, damaging the frame, radiator, airco and nose of vehicle. The vehicle was totaled as a result.

Dt: the contact owns a 2002 chevrolet caviler. On the steering column where the contacttilted the steering wheel there was a pin that held the steering column and thisfell out, and the steering column was moving around inside the dashboard. The manufacturer stated that the part was irreplaceable. The dealership and the manufacturer did not want to fix the vehicle because it had too many miles.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet cavalier.while driving in reverse at 15 mph, the contact could not control the vehicle's steering wheel.the steering wheel moved from side to side.the contact was able to move it by lifting up the wheel.the dealer was notified, but only stated how much it would cost to repair the failure.the engine size and transmission type were unavailable.the current and failure mileages were 72,810.

Car went out of control and could not steer it back onto highway, car hit telephone pole and i was taken to the hospital and the carwas totaled.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 30 mph the vehicle caught on fire without warning. The fire department extinguished the fire and filed a report. Upon inspection, the fire marshal determined there was a leak in the power steering pump. The power steering fluid leaked onto the engine causing the fire. The vehicle was determined totaled by the fire marshal.

My 2002 chevy cavalier was in for front brakes....mechanic phoned and told me that my car's subframe was cracked.mechanic told me that it was common with this model car.called gm and they told me that because of the age of the car (2002) and mileage (64,500) that there was nothing that they could do.i told gm that my mechanic said that this is a common problem with this particular car.still they told me nothing could be done.i called consumer affairs and they told me to contact the attorney general's office which i did.i was told that the only way i could make other folks aware of this problem was to contact nhtsa.i believe this to be a safety hazard for other folks that have this type of car.i would not have known if not for the replacement of my brakes.

Engine cradle subframe has rusted through on right side.low mileage, car is parked in a garage, so it does not sit outside all day and night.my mechanic tells me he has seen this a lot with chevys.he says it is especially true with gm cars driven in the north because of the weather...so much for being imported from detroit; isn't that in the north?he says he can order a used replacement from the southern us.i know a cavalier is not a top-of-the-line car, but isn't the frame supposed to be the strogest part?come on gm, fix this issue before somebody dies!i was going to let my 16 year old kid drive the car, now i have to tell him that he can't because an affordable car made by the biggest us automaker is cheaply made and unsafe!?

With only 13000 miles on the vehicle, the goodyear tires that came with the vehicle blewout when the inside of the tires wore to such a degree that the steel threads from the belts punctured a hole in the tire. Consumer also states that the vehicle came from the factory without aligning the wheels. *jg

While drving at any speed over bumps or potholes vehicle would make a cracking noise, andwould move left and right, causing driver to lose control.

Consumer stated that the right front suspension bounces excessively and is making a rattling noise.vehicle was checked by dealer who advised operation is normal, but not able to determine cause of noise.consumer very concerned about safety while driving vehicle.ts

Front end bounces and makes noise.took to service center with approx 8000 miles and had struts replaced.happened 3000 miles later, had struts replaced again!this has happened 4 times which i have paid for out of my pocket.this is a defective car!!!

On nov 12, 2004, my fiance was driving to work on a highway and our 02 chevy cavalier ls sport coupe went out of control causing a bad crash inside of a tunnel.the tires were in good condition, the car has traction control and the weather was fine.after just getting our car back from being in the shop for repairs to the front end for three months (due to excessive damage), we took the car to get inspected and it failed because hey found that the rear wheel bearing is damaged and will cost almost $500 to be replaced/repaired. There was no indication or warning prior to the accident that this bearing had been going bad. We had a wheel bearing replaced about a year or so ago but it was the front wheel bearing.we do not understand how two bearings could have went bad so quickly, as the car was only about a year old when the first one went.this second one went a year later, making the car about 2 1/2 yrs old.we believe now that this could have been the cause of the accident...if "spalling" or "brinelling" occurred, this could have been the reason for the loss of control of the vehicle.he said it was almost like hydroplaning-he felt the rear of the car kind of slide or wiggle to the side and that's when control was lost.we would like to have this problem looked at as soon as possible before repairing in order to see if this was the possible cause of the accident.we would also like to know why they went bad in the first place and see if the other two are going to next.

Hello. I have a 2002 chevy cavalier.i have owned the car since 2003.i have around 75,500 miles on the car.since owning the car my 'trac off" light has come on from time to time.when this happens my car jerks everytime the car shifts gears.in the past months it has been happening more and more frequently and it now is a daily occurrence.on two recent occasions, when the light has come on, when i was making a turn my car shut off completely and my steering wheel and brakes locked up.on both occasions there was heavy traffic but luckily it did not cause an accident.i am concerned because i have gone online and read about hundreds of others who have had to deal with this issue.i have called chevrolet but they did not seem that concerned with the issue.i have not had any work on the car done to fix the problem.i am a student trying to pay my way through graduate school so i can't exactly afford to take it to the dealership to have it fixed.i would not have a problem paying to get it fixed but i feel that since hundreds of people are effected by this that it is chevrolet's responsibility to get the defective cars fixed so that our roads are safer.i appreciate your time.hopefully we can get this issue resolved soon.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet cavalier.the contact purchased the vehicle as is without a warranty.the vehicle has been emitting strong fumes regardless if the engine is running or not.she stated that the fumes make her ill.she notified the dealer about the fumes and they stated that the smell would go away, but it still persists.the powertrain was unknown.the current mileage was 100,788 and failure mileage was 100,545.

The ignition switch locked and would not operate.first there was a problem with the ignition turning on and shutting off.then after the vehicle was parked, the ignition would not switch on.just like the information disseminated about the chevy cobalt, but a year before the announced recall. I contacted gm but they indicated that my make, model and year was not part of the recall.however, i had to install a ignition cylinder and key kit according to my repair invoice.i believe that should a total review of gm vehicles of the ignition part as a defective product.

I drove my 02 chevy cavalier on thursday back from tahoe,ca and my gas pedal got stuck down and kept increasing in speed, so i prayed and then started to mess with my cruise control and finally came back up, this morning same thing happened, so i called chevrolet customer service and the rep-eric told me that i need to pay for a diagnoses before i can get any answers, he called up the closest dealer and they could not give him a quote, i would rather buy a new car if i have to pay money for a diagnoses. This incident is a mechanical problem which occurs on its own. I cant afford another car as of right now and am still using my car for work. What would you say i should do??

While reversing accelerator became stuck and the rear end of the vehicle hit a light pole.the plastic cover at the anchorage point of the seat belt struck the front passenger in the back of the head.the passenger had to get 14 stitches.

Cruise control stayed on after hitting breaks even tried swtiching it off and that did not work only when i pressed in on the clutch did it disengage. But not befor the engine reved up to over 5000 rpm. This could damage the engine

While traveling on interstate i-75 at approx 75-78 mph with my car's cruise control set, i changed lanes to go around a slower vehicle at which time i was also coming up to a vehicle in the lane i switched to so when i tapped my brake pedal to release the cruise control it did not disengage, so i rapidly starting pushing the button on the end of the cruise control mechanism which did not slow me down either-i turned the button of on the cruise control it did not shut off! i got over into the slow lane to prepare to exit the x-way by literally standing on my brake pedal and i could only get it down to about 58 mph with my rpm's still at over 3000 when i exited i got the front end of the car to the shoulder i was going to fast still to properly place the car and i decided i needed to put it into neutral and shut it off, i missed neutral and went into reverse at 58-60 mph it jolted us backwards i quick reached down and put it back into drive and we flew forward and at that point i crammed the gear shift into park at 60 mph- my engine was roaring and you could smell nothing but burning. My father drove to where we were and since he is retired g.m. Repair person he knew how to disconnect the cruise control cable and he had me follow him and said everything seemed ok- i now have gotten the car to team hodges chevrolet where it was purchased for them to inspect and a report has been made to chevrolet.

Multiple times, the windshield wiper fluid would not flow onto the windshield.i would fill the windshield wiper fluid tank several times a month.finally, i noticed that the design of the windshield wiper fluids tubing into the windshield wipers was flawed.the tubing is routed so that it passes the windshield wiper tank and seats up against the hot car battery.at this juncture, the tubing apparently had rotted and melted, and it created a huge hole in the tubing.i do not know why general motors decided to pass the windshield wiper tank, and seat this tubing up against the battery, and then go down again, and finally fit into the bottom valve of the windshield wiper tank, but it seems pointless and stupid and a definite design flaw!!! now, i have to pay to have this tubing repaired and probably rerouted the simpler route, which would allow it to bypass the battery, completely, instead of practically wrapping it around the battery!!!

The window motors have burned out on both of my automatic windows at alow mileage.the passenger side motor had to be replaced at 35,000 miles and now the driver's side must be replaced at 60,000.i rarely use the automatic windows, so i don't know why they have both failed.

The motor in the drivers side window is not working.although my vehicle has 60,000 miles on it, i do not feel that after 2 years the motor should be bad.

Power windows fail-this is the second time with one year that the power window has failed, originally the left driver's side window failed, had the motor replaced, now the right front passenger has failed and at times the left driver's window stops working.

"c/s window inop left rear, 60005 lr power window motor internal problem 1.0 remove & replace lr power window motor" $356.95. (repaired: 01/13/07). Now 3.) (02/12/07) the flt window is starting to stop again, just as the last two repairs started....i'm not the only one with this problem... Go on line see others with the same problems yet chevrolet says there is nothing wrong.... Why can't manufacturer's stand behind their product.if this was an isolated problem, i would understand but something is wrong so that i can not take the chance of rolling down my window since i can not afford, as a single parent with a disabled child to repair another window. Please, do something.

Purchased car in march 2003. In nov. 2003, fuel pump and head gaskets went out and needed replacing. In sept. 2004 replaced driver side window regulator.in dec. 2004 replaced both rear window regulators.now, in june 2005, front passenger window regulator gone bad and needs replacing.sure have put a lot of work in a car that is not very old.4 bad window regulators is just ridiculous!!!
