The most damage occured on the passenger door, to the front tire was pushed in...the whole steering wheel assembly was pushed forward. My wife bought a 2000 chev. Cavalier from sound mazda inrenton a year ago in 2004, the car did not passed emission test, we took it to the mechanic and he informed us that the catalityc converter was not working, the o2 censor was bad and it would be pricy, we took it to a dealership and were going to trade it in, the manager of the dealership pulled a carfax report and he asked us if the dealership had informed us that in 2002 the car was in a wreck and the airbags were deployed, we told him no, when she bought the car none of this was informed to us.we believe that it is unfair for the dealership to not inform us about this, specially because the airbags don't work in the car and they still sold it to us like that.

I am writing this letter on behalf of my mother-in-law [xxx] concerning a continuing problem she is experiencing with her 2000 chevrolet cavalier [xxx].on july 10, 2001, september 16, 2002 and june 18, 2005, the dealership replaced the e7200 ignition cylinder lock [xxx] and various other components [actuator (p/n [xxx], and hvac [xxx] relay (p/n [xxx])].the first two times under warrantee without any explanation and the last at [xxx] expense with the excuse that the weight of the keys in the cylinder caused the failure.the vehicle has less than 10,000 miles and is well cared for.the problem seems similar to to the nhtsa recall 04v036000.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)
My car begun cutting off when i was driving on or about this date.i took it to the chevy dealer on 11/27/02 and they changed the fuel line.on 12/02/02 it was still cutting of so i took it back.this time they changed the wires, plugs, and 02 sensers.to make a long story short it is now 01/25/03 and my car is still cutting off.i have been to this dealership (sir walter chevrolet - raleigh nc) seventeen times.they have changed several major parts.( crank shaft sensor, 2 catylic converters, modules, and other parts.i do not understand why it is necessary to go to the a gmc mechanic 17 times for the same problem.i am at my wits end, the next place i am going is to the newspaper and a lawyer.
Purchased used 2000 cavalier in 2006.first problem (which has continued for 5 years) is that the service light will come on when the car is cranked unless the headlights are first turned on.if you turn the headlights off while driving, the service light comes on.it will not go off unless you turn the car off and restart it (with headlights on).second problem is that fuel hand does not reflect accurate amount of gasoline in tank. It goes up and down while driving (with the check gauges light on). Or sometimes it is stuck on e or stuck on f regardless of how much fuel is actually present.third problem is that car intermittently overheats and is always losing coolant. I have replaced thermostat, water pump, & radiator.three different mechanics cannot find a leak in the cooling system (despite pressure testing, compression testing, & block testing).we are baffled why it cannot retain constant coolant levels.this is a very frustrating situation as i am left without reliable transportation.
After accelerating over 35mph vehicle continues to accelerate.vehicle able to stop but you can still hear and feel the motor to continue to accelerate and the vehicle starts to jerk around.its very unsafe and no one at the car shop able to tell me exactly what is wrong. I've had several things fixed and still having the same problem.the vehicle sometimes after starting up will accelerate on it own.
The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet cavalier.the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start when the key was inserted into the ignition.she took the vehicle to a local repair shop and had the starter replaced.immediately after the repair, the failure recurred.she took the vehicle back to the repair shop and was advised that an add on starter relay needed to be installed in her vehicle.the dealer stated that her vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign id number 04v036000 (electrical system:ignition:switch); therefore, they would not assume responsibility for the repair.the vehicle has not been repaired.the failure and current mileages were 172,000.
Ignition gets very hot when key is turned can smell plastic ignition or batt 1 circuit problem.clearcoat is peeling.lug nuts coming loose
Vehicle's interior lights go on & off, also the transmission leaks badly. Failed to tighten front end bolts & problem with airbag light.
2000 chevrolet cavalier.consumer writes in regards to acceleration issues and vehicle ignition problems.the consumer stated after he had the battery, alternator and oxygen sensor replaced, he experienced an unusual problem with the vehicle. While driving 55 mph, with the cruise control on, all the lights on the dashboard lit up, the rpm gauge began to decrease and the cruise control somewhat disengaged as if the motor was about to shut down. He placed his foot on the accelerator and drove the vehicle home. He parked it, and the next day, he discovered something drained the new battery.a mechanic rode with him, and the vehicle displayed the same symptoms.the mechanic, then checked everything on the vehicle, but could not come up with the cause of the problem. He stated he believed the problem was electrical, but could not say for sure. The next day, the consumer checked the vehicle, and the battery was dead again. The consumer talked to another mechanic, and he informed the consumer, of all the ignition problems gm was having with their vehicles.
I was driven home from work (100 miles both ways) 65mph then it stopped accelerating pulled over 2 min. Later back on the road 1 mile later it happened again. Forced it to make it to town 1am. Left it at a gas station. Came back in the morning to take it back to dealer (45 min drive) it broke down 6 times!!!i've had it 9 days!!! dealer said it wasn't his problem but because my 7 month old baby was w/me he changed the fuel filter and sent me away. 45 min later i was broken down on a highway 1 hour it still wouldn't start. A man pulled up called the dealer and told him to tow it back to the shop. Next day he works on it end of day says it must be electrical. I gave him $4800 cash!!!!i don't even want the car back!!! he needs to give me my money cause it is a lemon.
Interior light of a 2000 chevy cavalier, comes on and flickers off, at different times, very distracting at night time. It could cause an accident.
While driving on highway, the engine suddenly stalls and will not start for sometime. Track light comes on. Happens "randomly". Currently happens 3-5 times a week. Afraid to drive the car anymore. If it stalls where there is no shoulder can cause a severe accident. 2000 chevy cavalier, started happenning after ignition recall but dealer denies and link.
First driver side rear turn signal blinked rapidly, then brake light and turn light ceased to work. When checked, the light and lens were fused (melted) together. As well driver side window ceased to work. Mechanic stated its electrical and advised i check recalls.also sometimes gas pedal accelerates without pressure from me. No cruise control engaged, not able to determine when or why...just occasionally happens.
Low track light came on when the vehicle was accelerated or when the gear was placed in reverse. In order for the light to go out, the consumer had to take his foot off the accelerator, sometimes the engine shut off by itself.the consumer stated the dealer fixed the problem in the beginining, however the problem returned.the valve cover gasket leaked.
Consumer 2000 cavalier stall when turning or stopping at a red light. After the recall work was done for the ignition the vehicle began to stall.the vehicle's transmission had to be overhauled.two sensors have been replaced.the catalytic converter has been replaced.the fuel pump has been replaced.
While drive on the city roads the 2000 cavalier tends to stall when slowing to a complete stop, slowing to turn, and when low speeds.the engine will completely shut down while electrical components such the radio are in tact.also include loss of power steering and power brakes making it difficult to steer out of harms way with many accident near misses.happends mostly when car has not been in use for a period of time then is started up for use. (e.g. Morning commutes).
This car will not start. And when it does start it back fires. I have replaced the starter, the flex plate the sensors, and the muffler, and nothing seems to work and no mechanic can tell me what's wrong with. I even went out and bought a car code reader and it says emissions but still no luck.
We bought a used chevrolet cavalier from the year 2000 with an extended warranty (gm certified) for 3 months or 3,000 miles.since the beginning there were 4 problems not yet fixed.1 - there is a popping noise under the back of the car. Dealer (koons chevrolet - withe marsch, md) said he couldn't duplicate. After bringing the car for the 3rd time, he said the brakes were dirty and he cleaned them, but this noise is still here, when starting at a red traffic light for example, or when riding on a rough road.2 - there is a grinding noise in front when driving. It's stopping when pushing the brake pedal. It's linked with the brakes for sure. The pads are new and the dealer said the rotor makes his noise, but he refused to change it (whereas it's under warranty). He said it's not unsafe. But this noise is coming louder and i feel like a loss of control.3 - the abs light come on every single day while driving and not braking. The 1st time, the dealer changed the bulb. The 2nd time problem was not solve) he changed the alternator, because my car broke down the day before (no more power at all). He said the alternator putted a low voltage to the abs causing the light to turn on. The problem is not solve. And i need to go back to the dealer.all of these problems have not been solved, and this is the 5th time i am going to the dealer. I think he's playing with me, so that my car won't be under warranty any more, and i would pay to change stuffs in the future.please provide information and support.thank you.*nlm
When turning steering wheel sharply there was a popping sound at all times. Dealer replaced power steering shaft.consumer states engine light comes on while driving, squealing noise from passengers side of engine especially on cold starts, and engine is slow to crank up-intermittent, battery was replaced, also vehicle would not start, dealer found fuel pump was inoperative and replaced fuel pump.*yd
The contact owns 2000 chevrolet cavalier. The contact stated when removing the key from ignition switch, the vehicle failed to shut off. The contact stated that the relays and the inside dome light constantly stay illuminated. The failure was contantly draining the battery. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The dealer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 90,000.
Simultaneouslywhile driving, check engine light will flash on. Headlights flashed on/off 4 times or ther was a clicking noise in the front end.dealership indicated the this might be caused by electrical system failure.
Track off light comes on and than the car will just stop/stall.this has happened 4 to 5 times in dangerous driving situations;in the middle of a left turn.the dealer has had the car twice and are unable to make the problem reoccur.they can see on the computer that it stopped but that is all. The service dept at the dealership has been wonderful they just can't find the problem.i am very afraid to drive the car.
On occasions, consumer smells something like burning wire.
Dt*: the contact stated that the plastic of the dashboad was coming apart and very loose. This issue hasprogressively worsen. Once while driving 55 mph a good size chunk of the dashboard came off.
High beams & drl's stopped working, checked fuses, none blown. Took to dealer and found that battery that had been previously replaced for leaking, was again leaking. The acid damaged headlight wire harness making drl's and high beams non-functional. Dealer says battery has no warranty even though battery states 5 year warranty.*la
Battery leaked acid from positive post down into battery box which drained into engine compartment and on to the electrical harness junction which is routed under the battery box. There is no drain tube to drain any acid overflow down under the car. The acid burned through the junction and shorted out the main harness to all the lighting on the front of the car. If this had been at night i would have lost my headlights and turn signals. There is minor damage to torque converter housing and motor mount. I'm waiting now to hear from the dealer as to when the car will be returned to me after the repairs are done, and see if chevrolet will take care of the repairs. It is my belief they need to install a drain tube in the battery box and reroute this harness away from this area. I fear as to what would happen if this had been at night and i was driving down the road at highway speeds. This battery was the one that came with the car. *****dims 11 ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut-over to artemis*****769324.
After ignition switch recall 04v036000repairs were performed the engine service light came on, and the daytime running light flickered. Vehicle was taken back to the dealership, who indicated that the battery needed to be replaced. The battery was replaced, but didn't correct the problem.

Light comes on, on dash consumer has takenvehicle to the dealer, and they told him that it wasnothing wrong withvehicle.when he was on vacation, radiator hose busted. When he returned home , he went to the dealer, and was reimbursed some of his money back by the dealer. Also, was told bydealer whendash light indicator that something was wrong with battery.
After purchase of my vehicle - battery was dead dealer replaced new batterylost coolant - engine was smoking then found out vehicle was on recallhad to replace rotors and pads with less than 20,000 miles on vehicle something needs to be done to improve the brake system on the chevy cavaliers they do not last. I commute to work by train and hardly drive so i was surprised with all the problems with this vehicle with not alot of miles.
Daytime running lights are inoperative. Acid frombattery post leaking out and dripping onto harness connector, meltingplastic, andplastic corrodingthe connector, which can cause an under hood fire.
2000 chevrolet cavalier battery acid leaked. The acid damaged other components on the vehicle.the second incident occurred on oct 6, 2005the acid leak damaged the battery tray, transmission coolant lines, inner fender and frame (delco battery).
A loud noise was coming from underright side of the vehicle. Contacted dealer, problem due to strut mount and isolator going out.
The first time this happened i was driving to work and the fuel injectors were replaced to fix the problem.the next 4 times (all in the same day) i was driving to and from pensacola, florida on interstate 110 and highway 98 and the gas filter and spark plugs were changed.these incidents were in the spring 2003. The dealer informed me in april 2003 that the spark plugs were the problem and they fixed it and said we should be fine.the most recent episode was on highway 20 in niceville, florida.i was driving with my wife and newborn when the car stopped accelerating again and thankfully i was able to pull to the side of the road without getting hit. Car stopped accelerating with no warning and was stranded on the interstate and busy highway.most recently the problem cannot be fixed.this car is only 4 years old and i bought it new with keeping the maintence up.as of now the car cannot be started and they have no clue as to what the problem is.i am concerned as this could have happened while on the interstate where i could not get to the shoulder or on the local mile long bridge where there is no place to pull over to.i am just glad my wife and child were not injured this time. *la
Ignition locked.a month later the consumer received a recall.
Interior dashboard lights flashed while driving.vehicle failed to restart, and the interior lights didn't function when this occurred.vehicle had to sit for about an hour beforerestarted. In addition, there was aburning odor in the vehicle. Four mechanics have serviced this vehicle, but could not duplicate the problem.

Vehicle stalled upon start of engine, then turned off suddenly after being on. Tried to restart and did not turn on. Vehicle was towed to shop, the next morning turned on with no problem. Stalls upon start up often. And turns off after being on for a couple of minutes. Chevy dealer said it might be electrical, they want the car to be taken in when stalling. If its stalling the only way to be taken in is by towing the vehicle there. They're not even sure if its covered under warranty or not. One person said it was if it was electrical but her manager said it wasn't.
I am the original owner of the 2000 chevrolet cavalier starting in november 2005 we had the ignition lock cylinder changed due to being unable to start the car.this lasted for about a year when problems started more frequent.we brought the car back to the dealer and he was unable to duplicate the problem.he stated that this is an intermittent problem and they could only find the problem when the car fails to start.it would start for them while it was at the dealership.i contacted gmac and explained the problem.i could not get anyone to technically fine the problem.in essence, this car has an on going problem and it is useless to me because i have gotten stuck with the car at least eight times and had to have the car towed to the dealer at my expense.we would like to resolve this problem as we cannot even sell the car with this problem.
Engine stalls at slow speed-while turning into parking space or while waiting at stop sign.no check engine light comes on -no service light come on -dealer says no failure codes in computer. Problem usaullyoccurs after car has been run and then sits but does not cool down all the way and then is driven.
First failure was at 24,197 miles. The car began to lose power and would stall during driving. Dealer had the car for 21 days, and replaced the switch clusters, ignition switch, reprogrammed body control module, replaced pcm and found burnt 3-4 clutch. At 40,613 miles the engine lost power and stalled again (while on the freeway). This time the engine warning light did not activate, and we had no idea there was another engine problem. The dealer again replaced defective coil and iginition wires. The car is once again beginnig to idle differently, which is a precursor to it stalling. At each failure, we also smelled a burning odor just before the vehicle stalling.

Battery terminal leaked, and since a lot of wiring is located under the battery, the acid ate the wires that go to the headlights, turn signals, and running lights. My highbeams work, and my drivers side turn signal work. Warranty wont cover, they said it was the battery. Why have wiring under the battery?
1.) leaking battery (acid) caused the electrical harness at the conector under the battery to become deteriated (corroded).2.) this affected the headlights by cutting off the electrical current and shutting off the headlight. A night time failure could have been very dangerous. 3.)i took the vehicle to a repair station and paid $300.00 to have the problem fixed. The harness was not replaced, only patched because a harness replacement would have been too costly for me.
Daytime running lights are inoperative. Acid frombattery post leaking out and dripping onto harness connector, meltingplastic, andplastic corrodingthe connector, which can cause an under hood fire.
The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet cavalier. The contact stated that the fuse that controls the instrument control panel has consistently failed. Each month he is required to replace the fuse. He also cleans the fuses regularly. The dealer will be notified to diagnose the failure. The failure has occurred since the vehicle was purchased in 2001. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 500.
I received a recall notice but as i have taken the car overseas i do not know where to get the work done.i have written several letters without response. No safety defect mentioned.
I took my 2000 chevy cavalier to steve's auto care in the city of hawthorne, ca.the symptoms i had were my lights in my dashboard would flash erratically and eventually my car would not start and the "check theft system" light would come on.steve claimed he fixed the problem and told me i might need a new "computer" if the problem persisted. When i took my car home, the next day the same symptoms occured again.i took the car back to him the next day and he told me his diagnostic machine was not working and he was waiting for a cd to get the machine started again. Hew informed me that when he had my car,all he did was put it on a scanner.he charged me $185.00.a week later the problem persisted again and i took mky car to power chevrolet.they had my car for 3 days and said my car wouldn't start at times and couldn't find the problem.they charged me $95.00. Then i took my car to martin chevrolet in torrance, ca and they had my car for 1 1/2 days.they said that my battery terminal as well as 3 ground wires were corroded and they said they fixed the problem.they charged me 122.87.when i took my car home the same day the problem still persisted and i took it back the next day to martin chevrolet.they had my car 2 days and i received a call that nothing was wrong with my car and that they drove the car 10 miles and nothing happened when they had it.they told me that if my car stalls again to not have it started but to bring it to them so they can see what the problem is.no one can find the problem and i know there is a problem because now when the lights in my dash flash.. I smell a little smoke.whatin god's name can i do to get this poroblemn resolved!!!????
Consumer received recall 04v036000 concerning ignition switch. Consumer tookvehicle to the dealer for recall repairs.when consumer went back to pick up the vehicle none of the gauges worked on the instrument panel.service technician told consumer that the instrument cluster cracked, and consumer would need to buy a panel for the instrument cluster at a fee of $240.00 for the panel and $24.50for labor. Consumer felt that because she was a female and came in alone she was taken advantage off .
Cracks in dash board plastic.gas guage stop working, trac light goes on and off and makes the car pull side to side in the snow and rain.dealership will not return any of my phone calls (marine chevrolet in jacksonville nc), lights on dash board go on and off on thier own.guages on dash work sometimes then stop working.
Vehicle was purchased used with a cracked dashboard.dashboardwas replaced, but wires were not connected properly, or pinch which results in no inside dash lights. Consumer was concerned that vehicle may be put in wrong gear.please provide any further information.
After buying the car had to return to have the door fixed after door was fixed the keyless entry quit working had the car back to get keyless entry fixed 4 times, had to have front rotors replaced at 28000 miles along with the brakes ,still having problems with the braking system grinding and clicking bad vibration in the front end when driving in straight stretches also vibration when going around turns at times it feels like the tires are comming off car is in the shop at present time with the brake problems and dimming of the lights and fuel gage reads empty after filling the tank up and check gages lights come on and remain on for 50 - 100 miles.thats all at this time.
The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet cavalier. The contact stated the vehicle was difficult to start and the steering wheel became loose. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 130,000.
I had the air conditioner replaced. The tech said the tensioner needed to be replaced. One week later i returned and had a new belt tensioner installed. About a month later the new air conditioner had premature failure. I had it repaired under warranty and also had a new drive belt installed during the repair. About one year later i began hearing a chatter when accelerating from stop position and had excessive vibration. I took to the shop and they said the belt tensioner was bad. This seems excessively short life span for a replacement part of good quality. Today the shop tried three different tensioners and still it was not correcting the issue. I even double checked the belt routing pattern to ensure it was correct. I dont understand what the problem is with the belt tensioners for this vehicle. All my prior ford vehicle never had this problem with their tensioners of same design. Please look into this problem as a belt that breaks or slides of a pulley due to a faulty tensioner can cause immediate loss of power steering resulting in hazardous and potentially fatal driving conditions and situations. Also the backlighting on the odometer does not work.the odometer registers milage driven but the backlight does not work at all.please look into and dont wait for someone to have to die before this issue become important.thanks.
Ignition gets very hot when key is turned can smell plastic ignition or batt 1 circuit problem.clearcoat is peeling.lug nuts coming loose
While making a turn vehicle would shut off. Dealer notified.ph
This car has been lovingly cared for since it was new. The underbody is perfect but the subframe (engine cradle) is badly rusted, with pitting, scaling and a rusted through hole. I am heartbroken! this car is very nice but now i can't drive it.
The vehicle overheated within 3 minutes to start up.the consumer stated that there was no coolant getting into the engine.the thermostat was replaced 4 weeks ago.the consumer had to use dexcoolant, but, the vehicle started to overheated again.the heater could not be turned on or the vehicle would overheat.the headgasket needed to be replaced. *sc
While driving 55 mph vehicle stalled.consumer had the vehicle towed. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
Consumer stated that whiledriving on the freeway vehiclestalled.highway state patrol had to give consumera ride because vehicle did not restart.consumer had the vehicle towed to a garage, andmechanictold her that the problem related tothe part that was put on by the ford dealer forrecallrepair. Mechanic took the part off and the vehicle started.he put it back on and the vehicle would not start.consumer indicatedthe part that ford was using for recall repair was faulty.
While driving 30 mph vehicle stalled.this caused loss of steering power and brake power.
Head gasket blew at only 50320 miles, allowing antifreeze to enter the engine block and flood cylinder heads and spark plugs, warping them to the point where they had to be rebuilt, in addition due to lack of antifreeze, car overheated almost to the point of catching fire, seizing the engine. This came with no warning, and no sign of leakage as antifreeze leaked into engine rather than onto ground. Car broke down in the middle lane of a busy intersection while stopped at a light causing a traffic obstacle during morning rush hour.*nlm
Check engine light appeared on the dashboard and remained. While driving at any speed vehicle stalled.consumer restarted vehicleand drove itto the dealer for inspection.
My cooling system failed causing my car to overheat and kill my 2.2l engine.also at 36000 my timing chain broke.my extended warranty company is refusing to pay.
While driving 55 mph check engine light appeared on the dashboard and remained on. A loud noise was heard coming from the rear.consumer was able to drive the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, andmechanicdetermined thatwheel bearing, caliper.and both frontal rotors needed to be replaced.dealer informed the driver that this was the twelfth set of wheel bearings that had been replaced this year.
Vehicle has problems starting and when it starts a few blocksdown the road itshuts off. *tc
1st car would act like it wasn't getting gas while driving down the road even though the motor was till running and it had power .then it started just stalling completely (dying) while going down the road. Now car won't crank at all because they've been trying to find the problem. Was found out that car had been wrecked but carfax report reported only minor front fender damage.
The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet cavalier. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle began to jerk abnormally and the vehicle stalled. The battery warning light was illuminated when the failure occurred. The contact attempted to start the vehicle yet it exhibited an abnormal knocking before stalling again. After several attempts, the contact was able to restart the vehicle yet it stalled a third time. The vehicle was then towed to the contacts place of residence. The vehicle was neither inspected nor repaired for the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 208,000.
When i purchased my used2000 chevrolet cavalierin april 2003 about 1 month i started having problems. After putting gas in my car i would drive a little and then the gas gauge would go down to appear that the car was almost empty but it wasn't.while driving one day the car just shut offit had gas in it i had just put gas in it but the gauge dropped to appear to be almost empty. I hadto get my car towed to the shopi was told myfuel injection went out.not even a month after that my car stalled at a red light and my temperature gage went in the hot zone my car wouldn't start i had to get it towedagain to the shop but they could not find the problem. Now here it is june 2003 my car is sitting in the drive way right now as i am typing this information.my son was driving home at 1:00 a.m. This morning from work when the car overheated again and started smoking. He saidsmoke was also coming out of the battery and he also heard noise coming from the rear of the car today is saturday and my car has to sit in the driveway until monday morning that when the dealer opens.i feel that something should be done.i don't think it is fair for dealers to be able to sale cars that are in this kind of condition and the car is suppose to be certified.i am making payments on the car and i am having all these problems.it is dangerous to be driving and the car decides to cut off especially at 1:00 a.m.i have to be at work at 3:45 a.m. And my son gets off work at 1:00 a.m. This is very, very dangerous for the both of us. *nlm
Nov.7,2002 car won't start. Dec.11,2002 won't start. Took car to potamkin chevorlet dec.19,2002. I was told there's was nothing wrong with the car and they would not replace battery. Jan.13,2003 car won't start.car was towed to liberty chevorlet. Was told car needed battery and starter. Also told if proper test was done, potamkin should have picked up the problem. Currently having problems with car. Car stops while driving. Liberty unable to find problem. Also since i purchased the car, new, my interior lights flash on and off when i brake hard or go over bumps in road.either dealer unable to find out why.
Timing chain had to be replaced becausevehicle was becoming inoperable. Contacted dealer, and the dealer was not willing to do anything. Mj
While driving at any speed the vehicle stalls.
Simultaneouslywhile driving, check engine light will flash on. Headlights flashed on/off 4 times or ther was a clicking noise in the front end.dealership indicated the this might be caused by electrical system failure.
Engine head gasket failed prematurely. Dealer repaired, and 8 months later the part failed again.
Engine was cracked.technician stated head gasket was blown. Please provide further information.
Consumer stated while driving at high speed, the engine shut down, which caused loss of power steering. Please provide any additional information.
*la
The vehicle stalled, which caused consumer to abruptly pull over.
Brakes vibrate when stopping from any speed.was told by dealer that was common with abs.brakes wear poorly, have had to replace brakes 2x since purchase.engine stutters when car first started or while standing.key hot out of ignition, was told recent recall affecting ignition relay would fix, did not.check engine service and abs lights coming on and staying on.car has only 32,000 miles.
The consumer stated he experienced 3 blown head gaskets; one day it will start and another day it would not start.
Timing chain loose/tensioner wearing out.first happened around 60,000 miles, at this time the chain, tensioner, and gears were changed.worked fine for a week and a half, then slowly started to rattle again until the noise was worse than before it was fixed.brought to chevy dealership, car stayed there for 5 days, said they couldn't find anything wrong, charged me $250 for diagnostic labor and told me it was a normal noise.then i called gm customer service, the woman i spoke to was all ready to help me out until she spoke with the dealership then came back on the line with me and just agreed with what they said about it being a "normal" noise.then brought it to another chevy dealership, service manager listened and said it was definitely not a normal noise, agreed it was coming from the timing cover area, called back customer service, said i'd have to pay for another diagnosis before they could even tell me if they would assist me in getting it fixed.i'm finished with it, i've spent over $1000 on this car in the last 2 months and it's still not fixed, plus i'm out $250 for a dealership telling me there's nothing wrong.this dealership was not the one i purchased the car from.....the original dealer messed up my rotors at 10,000 miles and were very rude about it so i vowed never to go there again.....now i've been burned by two dealerships...
Going uphill vehicle stalled, after 10 minutes.started again, anda while later,on uphill vehicle stalled . Had vehicle towed to dealer, mechanic took vehicle on test drive, and it stalled uphill. Dealer replaced fuel sending unit. In november 2000, head gasket had to be replaced.
Consumer stated while driving at highway speed the engine shut down whic caused loss of power steering. Please any additional information.
Three times the car had to be towed to the dealer.twice it died when i was driving causing me to miss work.it always shuts down the same way.
While driving on three different occasions at 65 mph andwithout prior warning vehicle cutt off, causing loos of all power. Also, vehicle has lost a great amount of fuel, problem may be linked, causingoccupants of vehicle to get sick. (akconsumer states no one knows as of yet, the first time dealer replaced battery, the second time they did nothing, the third time they replaced filter in gas line or tank.
Car idles extrmemly rough and feels like it is going to stall.bogs while driving, makes a firing noise from the tailpipe.i put better gas in the car, new spark plugs and fuel injector cleaner.no help.check engine light comes on when car is started, but also goes off just as fast.when idling, it does not stay at the same level. Very rough.cluster for digital odometer is broken, i need to bang on the dashboard to read the mileage.the light in the center console is also out.
Was driving vehicle when without warningvehicleexperienced an oil & transmission leak. Nothing was working properly in vehicle. There were no instrument panel lights, also, transaxle was found to be faulty. Waiting to receive a new transmission from michigan to replace original.
Consumer states that the engine is overheating and the engine light illuminated.
My car has stalled 4 differnt times w/out any warning, the 2 or 3 times i was told to put gas treatment in my tank . They thought i had water in my tank. Finally after almost hitting an 18 wheeler in the rear w/my 3 year old daughter in the car, the dealersaid the fuel filter was defective,& the fuel modularregulator was shorting out.i tried to get gm to do a buy -back on my car the refused.this is only one of many repeated problems w/my z24. I am going to file the lemon law on this car.
Vehicle stalls when a/c turned off.this happens when vehicle is in park and/or drive and vehicle is at stand still.dealer has had three attempts to correct defect.dealer states that they can't engineer a fix for the stall.in process of having vehicle classified a lemon under the state of florida's "lemon law".

The consumer was in driveway trying to go firward but the vehicle wouldn't go, the consumer tried reverse, nothing happened and the vehicle completely shut down, there was no steering ability and no brakes, the vehicle was taken to the dealer but they were unable to duplicate the problem
Growl / moan type noise coming from the front of the vehicle on heavy acceleration when making a sharp left hand turn.
The car hesitates when starting on ice or snow.if the drive wheels start to spin, the wheels do not receive power and the car does not being to accelerate until a delay of about 1 or 2 seconds.during this time another car was coming at me and i did not know if i would get hit or not.fortunately, i was not.it is very scary not being able to move when another car is headed in my direction.
Ses light illuminated, stalls on start up, coming to a stop, or when slowing down to turn a corner, dealer replaced catalytic converter and strainer, however problem still exists.
While driving in heavy traffica large quantity of carbon monoxide fumes enteredvehicle compartment.
The vehicle only had 2917 miles on it when the steering rack had to be replaced.at 6237 miles the dealer had to replace a strut mount and a bearing plate. The engine light illuminated and the o2 sensor and starter was replaced.the intermediate shaft was replaced twice and the headlamp was replaced.
While driving engine check light came on. Took to dealer, and they replacedoxygen sensor.in march of 2001, problem reoccurred, anddealerreplaced oxygen sensor again. On september 11, 2001, problem occurred again, and dealer did not have asolutionforproblem. On october 22, 2001 problemreoccurred. A dealer told consumer it was okay to drive with engine light on. Finally, onnovember 14, 200engine light came back on.please provide any further information.
Gas gauge on the instrument panel does not work, it registars higher than the amount of gas in the car.i spent over $450 dollars at the garage trying to troubleshoot why the car stopped running while driving and wouldn't restart. The garage could not find the problem.i discovered myself after the 3rd time, that putting gas in it fixes it, and realized the gas gauge was not registering empty, when the cat was empty, and i was simply running out of gas.
I took my foot off the gas pedal to begin to slow as i approached a red light.the vehicle did not slow down but instead continued to accelerate, as the gas pedal was stuck down.i was surprised and pushed down on the brake pedal, and the car was able to stop.once the light turned green and i took my foot off the brake, the car immediately began accelerating quickly without touching the gas pedal, which was still stuck down.i pushed the gas pedal repeatedly with my foot until it became unstuck, and immediately drove to a nearby auto repair facility.the technician looked at the car and discovered that the gas pedal had stuck on the driver's floor mat, which appeared warped near the pedal area.due to the indentation in the mat, it appeared that the pedal had been rubbing on the mat for some time before becoming totally stuck.there were no injuries, and i immediately removed the mat and have not had any problems since then.the floor mat is the original manufacturer mat supplied with the car.
Consumer states that the antenna is missing.
Enginechecklight comes on at low speed and the gauges fluctating.when vehicle is turned off and back on only the service engine soon light stays on.receiver/cd player the paint is rubbing off the buttons.
After purchasing the vehicle we wanted to put a different radio/cd player in it.when we went to do so, we discovered that if the factory installed radio was disconnected, the airbag deployment sensors no longer functioned.this is not mentioned anywhere in chevrolet literature.this, i believe, is a safety issue. I learned after two days of research that if the factory radio is even removed for repairs, it must be replaced by another factory radio or the airbag deployment senors again will not work.chevrolet should make this fact clear in its sales literature.this affects 2000 and newer cavaliers.i do not know if this is the same with other gm model cars.

The car has repeatly refused to change out of 2nd gear, one occasion i was going around 47 miles per hour and the just stop moving the rpm's read around 4 the, and the car read about 45 mles per hour but it was not mving.the car behind me had no idea why i stopped because there was no brake lights.this has happened repeatly and i am afraid to drive the hwy with this vehicle.my family, friends and anyone behind me are in danger each time we get in the vehicle.if someone frm behind did hit me they would think it was all there fault becuase the re-ended me.the car can be going over 60 miles an hour one moment and back down to 30 the next moment.i do not feel save in this vehicle, nor do my friends and family that have been in the car with and those that have driven the car themselves.

2 car vehicle collision-see police report.on the above date and time, the bethel fire department was dispatched to the intersection of reservoir st and grassy plain street for a motor vehicle accident.upon arrival a two car mva was discovered with a small vehicle fire extinguished by the bethel pd.bethel car one, pete holmberg, requested this fire marshal due to the fire damage to the vehicle.upon my examination of the vehicle, i observed the front end of the involved vehicle with moderate front-end damage.the right front headlamp assembly area did sustain some melting and burning to the rear of the unit.the left front headlamp assembly was found on the ground away from the vehicle.the bulbs for each unit were connected to the wiring/socket area.the impact of the collision caused the plastic housing around the bulb to break and dislodge the bulb from the headlamp assembly.the bulbs were part of the daytime running light system; therefore they were on at the time of the accident.the heat from the bulb ignited the plastic wiring harness on the left side of the vehicle (see photo #7).the heat from the bulb on the right side of the vehicle ignited the plastic wire harness as well as the plastic headlamp assembly (see photo #5).the fire caused minimal damage to the vehicle and the fire was extinguished with a dry chemical fire extinguisher.the cause of this fire has been ruled accidental caused by a break in the plastic retention clip for the headlamp assembly loosening the bulb from its proper placement and then touching combustible materials and igniting.
When turning right or left steering column produced a popping sound. As a result, turn signals failed, and headlights blinkedon and off.
Daytime running lights on my daughter's 2000 chevy cavalier have failed. As a result she has no low beam headlights.per local dealer the lights are "wired into the computer and day time running lights cannot be bypassed so that the low beam headlights work."per the dealer the solution is the replacement of a computer module at a cost of $500.00.as headlights are a safety requirement i feel that whatever steps are necessary to make the low beam headlights operable is the responsibility of general motors, especially since the day time running lights are not a mandatory item in the usa.

Problems with vehicle starting up as well as getting the headlights to work.*mrthe consumer had the recall work performed which was related to the ignition.the consumer believes that the ignition failure may have also caused the failure of the headlights.the recall stated that the high current could produce enough heat to melt internal switch parts.the consumer also experienced smoking and a burning smell at the steering column.the consumer was told by the technician that the headlight switch shorted out and that repair would cost $270.the consumer feels this should be replaced along with the ignition recall.

My car would intermittently not start. Would run fine, start several times while driving to different locations and then not start. Left me and my young daughter stranded, would not have been good if it were in a bad part of town or had i not had family close to come get me. Now i can't get it to start at all, don't hear the fuel pump prime. A mechanic told me to hit gas tank with mallet while trying to start it. It started by doing that, and i was told the fuel pump is bad and needs to be replaced, which is going to cost over $700...money i don't have. This i am finding to be a very common problem with this car....check out this discussion forum for many more complaints of the same problem at........http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/chevrolet-cavalier/tvinic5tfu5sfsi5h.............this car really needs to be recalled for the fuel pump, it is defective and dangerous.

The garage could not find the problem.i discovered myself after the 3rd time, that putting gas in it fixes it, and realized the gas gauge was not registering empty, when the cat was empty, and i was simply running out of gas.
This car will not start. And when it does start it back fires. I have replaced the starter, the flex plate the sensors, and the muffler, and nothing seems to work and no mechanic can tell me what's wrong with. I even went out and bought a car code reader and it says emissions but still no luck.
*nlm
Stalling, hesitating, loss of power, decreasing of horse power.
While traveling at speed limit over busy bridge 1/12/04at 7a.m. And slippery road conditions car stopped and failed to take any gas causing 4 oncoming vehicles to swerve and almost hit me in the rear.the car then starts and runs fine for a couple daysthen thecar stops again on 1/14/04 again on busy highway causing almost a 3 car collision.this has happenedseveral times andin the middle of traffic.i believe that i could have been killedon two occasions and many others could have lost their lives.i believe this issue needs to be looked at as soon as possible, it is life threatening.i was told that the fuel pump could have been defective. I believe the manufacturer needs to look into the fuel pumps on this make and model of car.
While driving, the vehicle stalled which was caused by a defective fuel pump.the old fuel pump was replaced with a redesigned fuel pump.
While driving home my car stalled then just cut off.the engine would crank but itwould not stay running.i took it to a mechanic and he said it was the fuel pump. 8jb
I had 3 fuel pumps with in 1 year and continue to have emissions problems, odometer and strange noises from under hood, several mechanics and thousands of dollars later the problems continue.
Car would not start. Was told by dealership service department that the fuel pump would need to be replaced. Found out it was the strainer in the fuel pump. This part was revised by manufacturer. My parents had the same problem with their 2000 cavalier.*la
When traveling at highway speeds the car cuts out and dies and then doesn't restart.this is due to a premature failure of the fuel pump.i believe the problem is design related. The pump failed at 90,000 mi.
Fuel pump has stopped working and the vehicle has become inoperable. Contacted dealer, and the dealer was taking a look atvehicle..*mj
I was on my way hme from work on a very busy road all of sudden car just lost power car would not restart took to shop was told the fuel pump was bad and needed to $$700 repair for something that i feel should not needed to be done on such a new vehicle i only had 51000 miles on the vehicle i bought a new car for this reason to avoid major repairs as of this date the car has failed again with the same conditions as previous just stalled and wont restart and the warrenty has run out on that( 12,000 or 12 mth) so that wilkl be another cost to replace this pump in less than a years time. This is utterly ridiculous on a 2000 vehicle for this to happen and gm states not are problem things happen , yes things happen but not continuous on new vehicles and the same problem i think gm really needs to take a closer look at this for some type of defect this is very dangerous and very costly
Fuel pumpstopped working and vehicle became inoperable. Independent dealer in the last past two years had replaced four fuel pumps.
Fuel pump on chevrolet cavalier z24 went out at 76,000 miles.it lost power and died all of a sudden in the middle of the highway.luckily, no cars were aroundas it was almost midnight.cost to repair was over $600, not including the towing. In doing some research i have found that numerous people hadfuel pumpsmalfunctionon their cavaliers, and onsome cars newer and most with lower miles than on thiscar.same story, just loses power and diedin the middle of the road.this was extremely unsafe.obviously this was a defect with the cavalier, yet they won't issue a recall.i havenever heard from anyone that owned a cavalier that didn't have some sort of problem with it. Also, had problems with the shifter cable and power window motor on the driver's side.extremely unhappy with the chevrolet.
Car would not start. Service department determined the fuel pump needed replaced. Suggested gas level not to go below 1/4 tank in future.
My wife and i own a 2000 chevrolet cavalier.the steering is beginning to have a distinctive popping sound and loosening develop.i know there is a problem and i am taking it to a professional to avoid serious problems.it is difficult to believe that gm could not develop a better steering column than this.it would seem a recall should be placed on gm for inspections to this particular problem (part).i know that this may seem trivial but i have already had to replace a fuel pump ($700 plus) out of pocket at about 2000 miles over my warranty.just seems like gm has yet to understand quality in the small automobile.or at least giving a little on an obviously defective part.example:i owned a 87 3 series bmw that i put 425,000 plus miles on and never had to replace a steering column.i did replace the fuel pump after an accident when the tank had to be replaced at 310,000 miles.a fuel pump at 39,000 mile and a steering column at 46,000 miles.
Vehicle is not able to start anytime of the day. Contacted dealer ,anddealer is not willing to do anything. When the vehicle stall first time thedealer replaced ignition control module. When it stall again, the fuel pump was replaced. However, the vehicle continued stalling.
There have been two issues with my vehicle that i feel should be recalls due to the same problems that has happened to my car has also happend to other cavalier owners. Recently thefuel tank gauge went out without any kind of warning, which cased me to run out of gas and have to call a family member to pick me up.the second issue is the plastic behind the windsheild on the dashboardcracked in two different places. I work with a girl that has the same vehicle i do and both of these issues also happend to her car. I just think these issues should be looked into. Its kinda weird that the same malfunctions happen to two cars of the same make and model.another issue is i had never received a recall notice on the failed ignition switch. I had to find out about it online when looking for a new part for my car. Thats kind of scary!thanks you for your time, and i hope you take great consideration in my issues.
When the fuel in the tank reached a quarter empty, vehicle stalls without warning. The dealership indicated that this is due to the fuel tank cap was screwed on to tight. The consumer feels this information is untrue because the cap can only be tighten to a certain point.*la
The gas cylinder is being corroded by the sulfur in the gasoline, the gas gauge will read that there is gas and then the vehicle will just stop without any warning.
Defective fuel tank was leaking which may cause a fire if there is a source of ignition. Dealer said that he shouldnt fill up the tank.dealer is replacing the fuel tank.please provide further information.
While driving a rental vehiclefuel tank, made of plastic, was punctured, causingfuel to leak out. Vehicle was towed to dealership.garage was filled with gas fumes. Fuel tank was punctured by road debris and replaced.
Check the engine light came on due to loose fuel cap. Yh
On 3 seperate occasions my car has now while driving just shut off w/ no warning. We have replaced fuel filter and still is doing it. I have been told it could be fuel pump or in the electrical system. I have contacted the chev company and they are not willing to pay any part of the repair. I feel this is a safety issue and feel it should be made a recall or taken care of before someone does get hurt.my car now sits in my yard unable to drive and want something to be done about the situation or i will have to go to a lawyer.
This vehicle has a dual fuel system; gasoline and natural gas.the default fuel is natural gas (ng).on a hot, 92degree day, on ng fuel, i accelerated hard through a 4 lane, stoplight intersection.the engine stalled and i barely coasted through.the ng fuel tank was 1/4 - 1/3 full.i was concerned about my safety.
2000 cavalier fuel pump went out chevrolet ---this seems to be a very common problem with a very expensive solution 280 for a new one plus the aggravation of trying to take apart and replace the hoses why don't they just recall these cars 200-2004 at least to replace the weak junky fuel pumps with better ones.
Car was being driven on highway, accelerated beyond driver's control, with brakes applied driver put car in neutral, guided car off road and shut off engine. Mechanic where car was towed explained that the air filter cover had broken and a piece from air filter cover was sucked into air duct to throttle body causing throttle to be stuck open. Car is bifuel cng.is this is a factor in air filter cover cracking?is there parts tracking for replacement of air filter covers and is it known how many of those went to bifuel cars. Why is air filter cover cracking? or is there a fix to prevent pieces from lodging in throttle?dt
Over the past several months the fuel gauge on my 2000 cavalier has failed to show the proper amoun of fuel remaining in the tank.i have had the car run out of fuel while the gauge shows 1/2 tank remaining.also, after refueling i have had the gauge show an empty tank, or the needle will varie between full and empty while i am driving.
Fuel gauge does not work correctly. Only ever goes down to half when it should really be reading "empty." never know how much gas is really in the tank.
Gas gauge has started to register more gas than actually in tank and check gauge light does not come on, causing highway break down while gauge registering ample supply of gas.filled tank up again this week, have traveled approximately 160 miles and gauge still registering over 3/4 tank full.my car averages 30 miles to a gallon. For 15 gallon tank gauge should be registering under quarter tank when five gallons of gas consumed.
Fuel gauge is not reading the correct amount of fuel in the tank, causing the vehicle to shut down while driving on the highway.
I was driving to working on november 19 2004 at approximately 8:30am when my car stalled at a stop light on a major street.i tried to give it gas but it would not accerate.i tried to start it a couple of times but it would not start. The car was on a 1/4 of gas when this happened so i thought it wasn't the fuel.i had to call my boss, who came out to try to help but had no luck in getting it to start or figuring out what the problem was so we had to call aaa and have them tow my car to an automotive shop.after 2 days of having my car in the shop, i was told by my mechanic that my fuel pump was completely shot due to my fuel guage readings not reading correctly.when my fuel reading was at 1/4 it was actually of empty.my mechanic then informed me that this has been a known defect for my year, make and model car.i was then informed by my mechanic that it would cost $675.00 which included parts and labor to fix this problem.at that time, i called the gm dealer because i thought that since this was a known defect that they should have it covered under some kind of warranty.i spoke with the service manager of the santa clarita, california dealer, who informed me that it has been a known problem, but that its not under any kind of extended warranty.when i heard that, i was very angry because i felt that if this is a known complaint/defect that these certain cars may have, why should i, the customer of chevrolet, have to pay for their defective parts?since i am in need of my "reliable" transportation, i paid for a new fuel pump (all $675.00 worth of it).

Interior light of a 2000 chevy cavalier, comes on and flickers off, at different times, very distracting at night time. It could cause an accident.
Was driving vehicle when without warningvehicleexperienced an oil & transmission leak. Nothing was working properly in vehicle. There were no instrument panel lights, also, transaxle was found to be faulty. Waiting to receive a new transmission from michigan to replace original.
Popping sound and feel when turning steering wheel has been worked on two times for this problem; interior lights do not turn on when opening drivers door; top portion of dash is split in the middle; makes lots of crackling noise, sounds like something is loose with the suspension.*la
When driving at night the instrument panel lights go out, also when putting vehicle in reverse the instrument panel lights go out, consumer took vehicle to dealer, and dealer indicated there was an electrical problem, had this problem repaired 4 times, but it has reoccurred..consumer also states the traction off light stays on all the time and bells ting at 65 mph.
2000 chevrolet cavalier z-24 - driver's side door freezes shut on most reasonably cold days.passenger side door opens fine.my 94 saturn parks right next to it and never has a problem unless it is extremely cold with ice and snow, which is understandable.could the door/window seal be bad on the cavalier?
The two back doors on my 4 door 2000 cavalier fly open.once the plastic latch isbroken, the door cannot be locked to prevent this from happening again.the first incident happened in march 2003 and the other door on the 4th of july, 2003.
Driver door latch broke and door wont stay closedback door wont open.
First, the dashboard has cracked in the middle of my car.immediately after buying the car the paint on buttons on the cd player/radio started peeling off.the problem has worsened over time.lastly, the latch on the front driver's side broke off and the seat is now stuck in the upright position and cannot be laid back.paint is peeling off on both sides of the car on the outside at the top from interstate driving.
We purchased a new vechicle on a friday.i was returning from the mall at night with my two young children.we were passing a tracter-trailer truck on i91 in mass.the hood popped up without any warning, crashing into the windshield and completly obstructing our vision.i slammed on the brakes, and narrowly avoided a catastrophic collision.my daughter sprained her knee in the jarring and the trauma of the instant. . .i sustained injuries to my sternum and to muscles in my upper back.we had a great deal of difficulty with the roadside assistance program, and i ended up in a closed service station parking lot , in a strange city, with my two children for almost three hours.we were treated poorlly and even threatened by the dealership.we had a great deal of diffifulty trying to report a claim about our injuries, and do not know where this stands today.i am concerned about the possibility of the hood release not sustaining the combination of speed as well as the resistance caused by passing a large truck.
Whenemergency brake is onvehicle will still move. Sometimes it feels like someone is pressing ongas. Vehicle is going to take off an possiblyhurt someone.only way to stop is to put vehicle in neutral.please provide any further information.

They agreed to work with me on the payments since i didn't have $1300 to cover a used transmission and the labor.i purchased the car in aug 2002 with only 16k miles, when the transmission went out it had only 27k.i've never heard of this and can get no assistance from chevy....very upset at their lack of understanding and cooperation at assisting in the financial aid.

Rubbing/grinding noise present ten days after purchase.

I drive my car for canada post ,so i do lots of mileage, but after owning my car for around 5 months i went to come to a stop and realized i had very little brakes,i had to pump them repeatedly to stop at a intersection,i continued to the next block where i opened the door and pressed the brakes to notice brake fluid pouring out of the wheel .i took the tire off and seen that the brake line had been rubbing on my cv boot, the line on the passenger side was groovedfrom rubbing on my cv jointand in turn broke the cv boot and broke the brake line ,i went to gm and asked if there was a recall on this and they said no so i replaced the line myself with a littlemodification to stop it from rubbing but now i got a cv joint that is about to brake due to this brake line can you please check to see if this is just my car or others all so ,i have all so had more brake problems from the day i bought this car such as abs locking up on meat intersections i think due to traction control i have gone to take off and had to change the automatic transmission to 1 st gear in order to cross a road safely i reported this to my dealer i bought the car from and they did nothing ,even when all the abs lights came on and traction light came on 4 days after i bought this car ,they reset the computer and gave it back ,in turn i brought it to another garage and they told me the abs computer is blown ,i figure i will tell the whole store due to all the braking problems i have maybe that is why my hose broke .
The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet cavalier. While driving approximately 45 mph the contact applied pressure to the brake pedal and the pedal depressed to the floor. During the failure the brake light began illuminating on the dashboard. The vehicle rolled to a stop and was towed to an independent repair shop. The contact was told the brake lines fractured and were positioned in a manner in which they were rubbing against the frame of the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 145,000.
The vehicle's trac off warning light illuminated on the dash.the dealer told the consumer the vehicle needed a new brake booster because it was leaking.

When the consumer applied the brakes, the vehicle experienced extended stopping distance.
Brakes did not stop properly when pulling out of parking lot, broad sided another vechicle, cavalier did not stop when brakes were engaged at low speed, gm was contacted and even though the dealership found warpage on the rotors they disregard responsibility stating warped rotors cannot interfer with proper operation of the brakes, they turned rotors and returned vechicle, please investigate have read multiple claims on your site of similiar complaints on this vechicle.
The brakes have failed on three separate occassions.pedal goes to the floor and you'll get stopped when it wants to stop.last occassion occured at a 4 way stop intersection, which was the only reason my sister was not hit.vehicle came to a stop in the middle of the intersection.speed at the time was approx 5 miles per based on the shape that the railroad tracks are in that you must cross when approaching the second stop sign.this second stop sign is located less than 50 feet from the first stop.rotors have been turned by the dealer, and the abs checked due to an emergency stop that i had to accomplish when a vehicle pulled out in front of me.dealer is unable to duplicate, therefore it is considered safe to operate.i disagree, and feel the vehicle is not safe if you can not depend on the brakes.
When applying brakes consumer smelled brakes burning. Also, stuttered when applying brakes. Pedalwent to floor.took to dealer to dealer 5-6times, could not remedy problem. Debris in drums, dealer said.
While driving 15 mph consumer applied brakes, brakes did not engage, vehicle hit another vehicle, andairbagsdid not deploy.

When slowing down and making a right turn. The brakes lock up, causing the car to go into a skid. It's ecspecially worse on wet roads. Now it's starting to lock up going straight and go into a skid coming to complete stops. The car is very unsafe. I've decided after almost having a near car wreck, to take it in next week. The last known report was on july 8, 2002, when i was driving i had to slow down the car locked up again and it started bouncing up and down. I came to a complete stop before the car re-ended another car. Please help me with anymore information about this and other braking problems.

Anti-lock brakes lock up and vehicle skids to a stop if the brake pedal is depressed at low speeds from a cold start. This is a common problem, per several local mechanics.
While driving at slow a speed, the vehicle lurched forward and it felt like the vehicle was rear ended.the dealer refused to fix the vehicle and stated the vehicle was safe to drive. *ph the abs sensor had become inoperative. *scc
I had had problems with my car not stopping when i would brake in the past. I took my car into the dealership and they said it was because i needed to replace my brakepads & rotors. I paid to have them replace and less then 2000 miles later my mom had an accident. It was a clear, dry, moderately traveled road. A woman cut of kip the man in front of my mom. She stepped on the brake but the car didnt slow, so she stepped harder causing the pedal to go to the floor of the car. I didnt agree with the initial inspection, so i asked timiki j at gm who handled my product failure allegation, if i could get a second opinion. She said it was fine but they wouldnt pay for it. So i paid about $125 to get a second opinion. It took the next dealership about an hour and a half to do a complete inspection; they determined that there was presently nothing wrong with the breaking system. In the inspection notes they did note that that doesnt mean something didnt happen. Just that the abs computer hadnt recorded a failure. The 2000 chevrolet cavalier was purchased in july 2003 with approximately 32,000 mileage. On december 25, 2003 with 34,016 mileage the brake dash light came on, indicating a problem. The fluid was barely visible when checked. The mechanic later determined the proportioning value was losing a drop of brake fluid with the application of the brake pedal. The part was ordered and received from the local dealer. The repaired car was completed on january 2, 2004. He difference was remarkable. It wasn't until it was repaired that i realize how much it had lost it braking ability.today i was told it was not a safety issue, since i didn't have it repaired by their authorized dealer only the dealer could make the determination of defective parts.

The vibration was reported to the dealer before 36,000 mile and i was told it was nothing to be concerned with.after the 36,000 mile warranty, the popping began to occur more frequently and with greater volume and the vibration continued. (1)ordinary to low usage of a 2000 2.2 l chevrolet cavalier, which had 19,900 miles when the failure occurred in november, 2004.(2) persistent problem with a "clunking" sound in the front driver side of car, when turning. The problem is especially noticeable at low speeds.the noise is a possible indication of a steering or powertrain malfunction.(3) the vehicle was taken to an automobile repair shop to identify and repair the problem causing the noise.the repair shop identified and replaced a cracked brake rotor.moreover, they replaced the other rotor and both brake pads. Furthermore, the repair shop lubricated the driver side lower ball joint, the saddle on strut, and the tie rod.also, the axle was inspected externally, but no problems were identified.the repair shop indicated that it might take a week for the "clunking" noise to disappear, as the lubricant worked into the joints.however, as of april, 2005 the problem still remains.

I own a 2000 chevy cavalier and the warranty has expired.when turning the steering wheel while the car is moving very slowly and loud clunking/popping noice is heard from the front of the car--possibilty under the dask board.i am trying to find out if there has been a recall on the steering column or anything that has to do with steering of the automobile.in reading through different consumer complaint; it would seem this a major problem with the 2000 cavalier and the customer should be taken care of to prevent an accident and/or injuries to the automobile occupants.cannot afford extended warranty nor can i afford more auto repairs.please respond with some positive feedback.

When turning the steering wheel while the car is stopped or moving very slowly a loud clunking / popping noise is heard from the front of the car. I own a 2000 chevrolet cavalier with severe structural integrity problems relating to the dash board body.the problem is not simply a crack in the front windshield panel (which is common on these cars), but the entire dash is cracking from within and throughout the body of the dash.after recently removing the top part of the dash, it was discovered that even the supporting structure around the passenger air bag unit is cracked and broken away.this could result in a failure of the air bag system.all of the plastic within the body of the dash is extremely brittle and pieces of plastic actually fall in to the floorboard while driving sometimes.i am certain that the passenger air bag will not deploy properly since it is no longer secured correctly and this could pose a serious safety concern for a passenger in the vehicle in the event of a collision.
When it rained or if the vehicle was taken to a car wash, water leaked inside the vehicle, the vehicle was serviced for the problem on 5 occasions and the problem was unresolved, consumer purchased a 2001 model and also experienced the same problem with that vehicle.

Dash board cracked and was replaced once already and needs to be replaced again and dealers refused.the dashboard is almost completely gone and it starts with a crack in the middle near windshield and then the whole dash goes even around the heater and radio area. I firmly believe that this is dangerous since none of the instruments are working properly now.there is plastic falling off everytime you drive the car and hit the slightest bump in the road.

A loud noise was coming from underright side of the vehicle. Contacted dealer, problem due to strut mount and isolator going out.
There were no warnings or events leading up to the failure of my vehicle. On may 29, 2006 while driving on a busy major road the axle and ball joint on my2000 chevy cavalier broke causing the tire on theright front passenger side to bend outward and causing body damage to the fender above the tire. This incident almost caused a major accident if i had not gained control of the car. I was left in the middle of this busy road until a tow truck arrived. My car is currently at a repair shop.
While steering the vehicle, a loud popping noise started coming from the front of the vehicle.the driver noticed that the vehicle vibrated uncontrollably. Bought 2000 cavalier 2/9/04.had 34,000 miles.problem 1: clunking noise from front end when turning.replaced right front strut and mount.still had noise.replaced right front strut again, mounts on both sides, left strut, rack and pinion, ball joints.still makes loud clunking noise.2 days later returned to shop - 6 weeks later and chevy dealership could not figure it out.still makes noise.problem 2: check engine light on.replaced gas cap =light off 2 days.light on again=wiring harness=light off 2 days.light is on again.i have never had this car in working condition.every attempt to fix it has failed.i can not afford to keep buying parts and labor and it never be fixed.half of the time i have owned it has been at the shop and 100% of the time it has been broken.

2000 cavalier z-24 curved plastic piece that wraps around the upper inside of the dash stretching from windshield post to windshield post cracks and falls apart. The dealer repaired the cracked dashboard.
Paint, ceyenne pepper. Metal flake paint is starting to turn white in millions of little pockets below the clear coat. Gm rep. States the car is out of warranty and the car just needs to be detailed. The dealer john l. Sulivan. Just painted the spoiler a month ago for the same cause. The spoiler is starting to show some of the early signs already of the advancing problems. The service manager stated the paint is damaged due to atmospheric conditionc. They are refusing to repaint the car.
On sunny days there is a glare that comes from the dashboard to windshield, obstructing drivers view. Dealer has been notified. Consumer stated dashboard should be dark to reduce reflection. *yd
While driving engine check light came on. Took to dealer, and they replacedoxygen sensor.in march of 2001, problem reoccurred, anddealerreplaced oxygen sensor again. Engine check light would stay up to two or three days at a time. Contacted dealer, and dealer statedreasonfor engine checklight being onwas becauseconsumer didnot drivevehicle long enough.
Enginechecklight comes on at low speed and the gauges fluctating.when vehicle is turned off and back on only the service engine soon light stays on.receiver/cd player the paint is rubbing off the buttons.

Speedometer stays at between 15 and 20 mph when vehicle is not in motion.when driving at about 25 mph, gauge says speed is 75mph.other times, gauge stays at 0 and vehicle is in motion.dt

While driving at slow a speed, the vehicle lurched forward and it felt like the vehicle was rear ended.the dealer refused to fix the vehicle and stated the vehicle was safe to drive. *ph the abs sensor had become inoperative. *scc
This part failure caused the vehicle to accelerate and decelerateforcing the driver to have to ride the brakes to keep the vehicle under control.
The vehicle experienced sudden acceleration.
Serious accident may be related to this or similar part. Was told car had accelerated quickly, and throttle increased rapidly.please investigate>i have seen several complaints on your web site with this type of problem.this may be a saftey problem.
This 2000 cavalier was purchased feb. 2006,the needle was going at a higher rpm constantly.finally, the other day it went up 5000 rpm's.i brought the car to my garage and several valves were replaced. This did not correct the problem.the computer was just replaced.hopefully the problem is solved.this is a dangerous situation.
While driving uphill at 20-25 mph consumer noticed low traction indicator light flashing.consumer depressed the accelerator pedal to gain speed andengine stalled.
Whiledrivingand upon engaging the clutch it will not disengage, causing unwanted and unexpected acceleration. Consumer contacted the dealer, dealer has yet to replace parts. Please provide any further details.
My passenger side window in my z24 cavalier is not working again.i replaced the motor 2 years ago at 60k miles now i have 95k miles and it has gone out again.is chevy going to replace or recall this so i don't have to pay more money for a motor?i replaced it the first time because what if a child or passenger got there hand stuck in window and i could not get the window open again because of the motor problems.this is a safety concern of mine that should be addressed by chevy.
Driver's side front window will only come down approx 5 inches, and passenger side window will not go all the way up, leaving approx an 8 inch opening.i think this is definitely a safety hazard because if i can't roll up the window, the car can be easily stolen, vandalized, or burglarized.not to mention my driver's side window entrapping me inside of the car in case the vehicle submerge into water.i have looked into getting the problem fixed, & the quotes i got were 400-500$ for each window.my warranty has been up for a year.

Consumer states that the outside rearview mirror is broken.
The windshield ha a faulty design that causes distorting reflactions.
The windshield exploded while driving. Consumer was unable to maintain control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree.upon impact, both frontal air bags did not deploy.driver and passenger sustained head and back injuries, and were transported by ambulance to a hospital. The plastic strip near front window on dash board is cracked in two different places.there was no damage done to the vehicle to cause this type of damage. The plastic piece cracked all the way up to the windshield.
Windshield cracked without warning- no outside forces (eg. Rock) in the middle about 12 months ago.dash cracked down the middle 3/10/08- no reason. Worried about safety bags operating correctly. Know of many other cavaliers with same dashboard problem.
The windshield ha a faulty design that causes distorting reflactions.
Would be driving with defroster on high whenwindshield wipers would freeze up. Windshield would cloud over when snow hitswindshield. This causes poor visibility fordriver. Have taken to dealership, but the mechanic could not resolveproblem.
While driving in inclement weather the windshield wiper would come on andgo off on their own.the consumer was able to driveto the dealer for inspection.the mechanic informed the consumer that the windshield wiper motor needed to be replaced..please fill in additional information.
Windshield wiper came on and off intermittently on its own.consumer contacted the dealer on more than one occasion, and the problem had not been resolved.
Mostly when it rains the wipers will stick or jump at the top and on the way back down.when i use delay or mist only. When i have it on 1 or 2 speed they work just fine.
While pumping my tires with air i noticed my two back tires (a different brand from the two front tires) had cracking in between the treads all the way around the tires. 3 months prior to november 19th, 2006, i had my driver side front wheel break away from the car. When the car finally had stopped from 45 mph, i was surprised to see that the center of the wheel was still attached to the car with the lug nuts still tight. The center of the wheel had busted out. The front end of the car was sliding on the control arm and the fender, door and front bumper cover had been damaged. I also had to replace the brake rotor, brake pads and lower ball joint just to get the car mobile to drive. The car has driven the same since this had happened, so i am sure that a lot more damage has occurred in the front drivetrain, but can not afford to fix at this time. I contacted fairway chevrolet in las vegas, nevada and was told that the wheel must have been damaged by a pot hole or something. Being the wheel was damaged when it had broke off the car, i assumed that maybe that is correct information until november 19th, 2006. I was driving and felt the same vibration from 3 months earlier. I carefully came to a stop and inspected the car. Now, my passenger front wheel was only seconds from busting off the car. This time the wheel is perfect condition, meaning no signs of pot hole damage. American tire in las vegas, nevada replaced the wheel and informed me that they had never seen a wheel bust apart like this, and am very lucky that this did not result in a crash or worse death. The same dealer brushed me away again, and now i have a damaged car both body and driveability. Please help.
After loud banging noise, the front right side of the vehicle collapsed due to the wheel bolts shearing off, causing the wheel to detach completely. *mjs
