We came here to see if there was any recalls on our car the reason being that it seems that the air bag is not placed correctly and thus it hinders the use of the horn. The majority of the time we can not get the horn to blow. We have had this problem since buying the car.

While traveling 60-65mph and had rear ended a stalled out vehicle. Upon impact withother vehicle, both air bags came out, but failed to inflate. No injuries occurred.

Vehicle was involved in an accident.hit a guardrail, causing damage to sensor and the computer module.both air bags did not deploy. Dealer notified, and inspected computer whichrevealed that the air bags had deployed; but, in reality,did not. Also the seat belt did not secure properly, causing consumer to hit her head on the steering wheel.

While making a turn at35 mph, there was a head on collision with another vehicle. Driver and passenger frontal air bags did not deploy. The consumer sustained a broken sternum and was hospitalized.

Was traveling about 35mph on a side street and a deer ran in front ofvehicle, and rolled up ontothe vehicle, and rolled by down to the ground.sensor went off andmodule light came on. But,airbags didn't deploy, and vehicle's front was smashed in.consumer stated that that dealership was aware of the problem.

While driving at 30 vehicle was involved ina frontal collision, and neither of the air bags deployed. Also,seat belt did not hold the driver.

Dt*:the contact stated a loud pop was heard on the inside of the vehicle, and then the dashboard cracked down the middle.the contact is concerned the airbag could deploy without an accident. The vehicle has been seen by the dealership, but no repairs were made.

The air bags deployed without cause, then caused a minor traffic accident

More than one incident: brake light and abs lights are on. The abs motor pack needs to be replaced, and was told by chevrolet dealership that this is a frequent problem. Bad motor pack due to corrosion in gears in motor pack. This causes abs to "shut off" but also for breaks to drag, stick, premature break wear, and warped rotors. Many people have this issue. Newer design of motor pack consists of electronic solenoid. Chevrolet needs to recall this!

While driving, consumer's vehicle was hit on the front driver's side,thenvehicle rolled over. Upon impact,side air bags did not deploy. Consumer sustained minor injuries. The dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

Consumer was involved in a side impact at speed 55 mph. Vehicle was forced into a ditchat 30 mph impact head-on in which neither driver's side nor passenger's side air bags deployed ,causingdriver to go into steering wheel. Also,fuel cut off switch did not kick in.vehicle continued to run. Vehicle was a total loss. Please provide any further details.

Brake light are not functioning when replacing bulb. Also,the lights on the dashboard continuously come on and off. The cause of this is undetermined.

Electrical system failed to work. Problem was causing the lights inside & outside not to come on. Had the fuses replaced for all elelctrical components. Also had the electrical components checked & mechanic indicated no problem was found. Been back to dealer twice about electrical cluster problem.the customer states that the vehicle was taken to shop five times for electrical, instrumtnt cluster, brake lights and back up lights.

When i bought the car in springfield mo., i only had 8 miles on the car when i drove it off the lot. I live in rolla which is only 110 miles at the most. I drove straight home and the mileage showed 265 miles, twice the mileage. Also, the car shakes and grinds when starting. They found nothing wrong with it. That was when it had less than 1000 miles. Fuel lines or something smells heavy with gas. My car eats gas more than my astro van. They said nothing was wrong. I have put three cooling systems in this car they said was wrong. Fuses keep burning out. I have replaced 65 bulbs, they said nothing is wrong. It's much worse now. When i turn the car the steering sticks then goes into the turn, they said nothing was wrong. Possible electrical failure, ets light, safety belt light, and airbag light flash on and off.

Consumer complained about anelectrical system problem.sincepurchasing vehicle in 1999 consumerhad this vehicle back and forth in therepair shop, and mechanics kept telling her that there was nothing wrong withvehicle.also,since purchasing vehicle4 batteries burned out.vehicle had leftconsumer stranded, and she hadit towed to dealers, and once to her home.onceconsumer was told by mechanic that the electrical problem was solved, but vehicle still needed an alternator.

The contact owns a 1999 chevrolet cavalier. The contact stated that in 2005 when she made a right turn at 15 mph, the steering wheel made a clicking noise and began tovibrate. The failure continued to occur. There were no warning lights that would allude to the cause of failure. The contact also noticed that the steering wheel would unlock and turn involuntarily when it was supposed to be locked. The fuel gauge was also defective. She also noticed that the lights on the instrument panel, and headlights, were also faulty. The bulbs in the left rear turn signal and brake light burned out and melted after they were used three to four times. The contact called the local dealer to ask about related recalls and was informed that there were no open recalls for her vehicle; however, the contact found eight recalls for her year, make and model vehicle. The current mileage was approximately 100,000. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000.

The turn signals and brake lamps continued to fail.the consumer had to replace the bulbs on numerous occasions.

Problems with dashboard lights blinking on and off.*mrthe vehicle was recalled for the starter system.the dealer replaced the harness.after the recall was done the consumer noticed that the dash light would blink on and off.the vehicle was taken back to the dealer who determined that a cluster needed to be replaced. The consumer had to pay $592.86 for this repair.the dealer explained to the consumer that the wires behind the dash had loosened while going over bumps in the road.the consumer feels the vehicle may be too delicate if it cannot stand a few bumps in the road.

Headlight wiring harness failure. Unable to use high-beams. When attempting to activate the high-beams, the drl activate due to not having full power getting to headlights.

I was on my way to my dentist appointment, suddenly a hissing noise came from the car.all of the dashboard lights came on and i knew i was in trouble.i was on a busy intersection in the city.i had to act in a split second and steer quickly off of the nearest side ride.the steering wheel was locking up.i had just enough power to get safely off of the street in time and to keep from getting hit from behind.i was in motion on a city street.the car was trouble from day one.i believe it was a flooded out car sold to the unsuspectithat unsuspecting person was me.i got suckered out of over $2400. I have paid for at least 2 new cars with the money i have spent on this lemon.by the way the shady ownerdon't feel responsible at all for scamming my money out of me.

Consumer experiencing problem with an electrical short causing a malfunction with the power windows/ horn assembly and battery. Consumer has contacted the dealer. Please provide any further details.

While driving fuel regulator failed and gas went through the motor, and the motor blew up.vehicle towed to the dealer.engine and was removed and replaced.in addition, consumer stated that after purchase of vehicle the computer when out.

Takata recall: fuel gage nas never worked since being bought, turn signals ( both right and left) barely worked when bought and went out completly the next day,power steeringlocks up occasionally and and cant turn wheel,shift gear linkages will only shift manually under the hood, car will die or struggle to continue running unless foot is always pushing on gas, engine occassionally backfires, andnot quite sure if the fuel pump is working properly or gone out

I purchased the vehicle in dec. 1998, and a little over a year later, the odometer stopped working. Half of the numbers show, and it is different every time i start the engine. I cannot tell how many miles are on my vehicle, and my gas gauge moves back and forth from full to empty... I have a relative who is a mechanic and he said it is a computer chip that is faulty. I contacted a local chevy dealer and they said there was nothing they could do about it!

Car was purchased as a demo vehicle from the dealer but is still covered under the manufactuerer's original expressed warranty. First failure resulted in car stalling and towed and battery replacement by owner (6/00).battery light illuminated and car taken to original dealer (casa chevrolet) on 8/11/00, dealer could not duplicate problem. Car then taken to second gm dealership (galles chevrolet) on 8/21/00, alternator failed test and replaced. Battery light illuminated again and car stalled and towed to galles chevrolet on 9/22/00, fuse link at starter replaced. Battery light illuminated and car stalled and towed to galles chevrolet on 10/04/00, alternator failed test and replaced. Battery light illuminated and car was driven to galles chevrolet on 10/10/00, pcm replaced. In all instances the dealer could not duplicate the failure. Battery light illuminated on 10/17/00 but is intermittent and car has not stalled to date.letter sent to manufactuer requesting repurchase of vehicle under lemon laws for failure/inability to repair the same defect while under warranty.

First, the whole transmission was rebuilt at dealers, the sensor fan now does not work, the battery and radiator are not functioning, the steering is malfunctioning, and the brakes are slipping, and now the transmission is also slipping again, i reported all this to chevy as i was not getting satifaction from the dealers in florida and now the my vehicle is broke down and will not run in bradenton florida at cox chevelot on cortez road in florida, i called and talked to several women in the customer service at chevy and their names are brandy mays and lillania lopez, i still have no vehicle and now i am not receiving any courteous service as i was told chevy would buy back the vehicle and it was a lease.i have purchased a new chevy truck and due to the red tape and chevy now refusing to help assist me with the buy back i am unable to keep my new truck due to this red tape and all the forms and information that the service dept. Now says i need to have had done, but i was not informed when i first made the complaint on sept 7.i called back on sept, 28, when i found out that chevy went back on their word.i am not a car dealer, i do not work at chevy as a service representitive, and i sure do not know what papers or forms are required for the manufacture in detroit michigan needs to fill out paperwork.i am an unsatified consumer, and i feel the run around i am receiving is a great injustice.i loved my car and it is immaculate inside and out.i only want to keep my new chevy truck which is not looking as a possible option as chevy is not cooperating, the dealer moved its lot, the service departments in florida will not service the vehicle, and it is an engine censor chip, the transmission, the radiator sensor fan and now the steering, i have no knowledge on how to repair a sensor chip or any of these things and since the car is in florida i cannot get it to kentucky.now gmac, my financer on my new truck will not finance me.

Alternator failed and was replaced.

Consumer took the vehicle to dealer for a relay switch.after receiving the vehicle it was making a winning noise, and the clock on the radio was flickering. Dealer stated the alternatorwas defective.

The vehicle lost power and the electronic traction system light came on while driving due to burnt spark plug wire. Yh

Ignition wiring overheated.

Complaint regarding problems with ignition circuits.*mrthe vehicle experienced the recall symptoms 2 days prior to receiving the recall notice.

Two issues left consumer stranded in 1999 2.2l chevrolet cavaliercatastrophic failure of input shaft/input drum assembly on 3t40 transmission, left operator without any forward or reverse drive gears while drive was engaged and rolling. Managed to avoid crash.remedy was replacement of transmission with remanufactured transmission.incipient worsening of starting times. Poor factory ecm calibration in all or most 1999 2.2l cavaliers can leave operator stranded in warm starting condition.results in poor initial running and large amount of unburned hydroarbons released to atmosphere.a technical brochure exists to remedy the situation, but no recall.dealer wants $90 to reprogram ecm.

Approximately two months after the dealershipperformed ignition switch recall 04v036000 repairs the problemrecurred.

Nhtsa recall 04v036000 concerning ignition switch failure.recall wasnot being honoredby the dealer, who installed the wiring harness, used to prevent high current flow. However, dealerdid not install the ignition switch.the dealer asked consumer to pay for diagnosis when they won't change the ignition switch. Currentlyvehicle did not start.

Dt: the consumer was complaining aboutelectrical problems for 3 years. The car has been to the dealer once and to a repair shop 4 or 5 times for electrical problems. The dealership installed a wiring harness kit, and that did not correct the problem. The consumercalled the manufacturer, and they would not refund her any money. Vehicle experiencing problem of restarting afterrunning for 15 minutes or more.vehicle been in/out of dealer shop on five occasions, and was unable to duplicate the problem.

To make a long story short, my car started smoking through the ac vents one day and i described this to a chevy 800 # rep and he said that it was covered under recall # 04002 ignition circuit thermal events. I take it to the dealer, they said they fixed it. I go to pick it up and the burned wires under the dash were not replaced, the theft system light was still on and the car still would not shut off even with the key out of the ignition. I called the 800# back and told him i was given the run around and now this guy claims that he never told me that the damage to my car was not covered under the recall and that it would have to come out of pocket. This is ridiculous. The description of the recall fits exactly what happened with my car and now they are trying to get away with not fixing my car. The contact owns a 1999 chevrolet cavalier.when the contact attempted to start the vehicle, it would not start; however, the instrument panel indicators illuminated.there were no prior warning indicators before the electric system failed.nhtsa campaign id number 04v036000 (electrical system:ignition:switch) was referenced.the contact was advised to replace the ignition switch first and then the dealer would complete the rest of the safety recall repair.the current mileage was 112,319 and failure mileage was 112,019.

With ignition key in start position i begin to smell something burning. This prompted site search and it appears that re-call #02v070000 applies to my 1996 cavalier. Dealer does not acknowledge existance of recall.

The high beams and day time running lights fail intermittenly. *mr the wires rubbed underneath the battery tray.(found corroded splices in the harness under the battery tray)the running light indicator on the dashboard was off again and the high beam indicator was always on when the headlight switch was in either position.the problem with the running lights was yet another corroded and shorted out a wire form the electrical harness.(found wiring c101 corroded and circuit 1200 at c101 was repaired)the check engine light was not caused by a bad sensor, but another bad wire leading to a sensor.(found wiring to the vent solenoid bad)there was a loud clunk noise in the rear when hitting large bumps due to worn rear strut mounts. *sc

Wires from the ignition are rubbing againstbolts on engine,andis causing electrical problems because of exposure. Consumer isconcernedof vehicle catching on fire.dealership is aware of it.

Odometer trips, cluster replaced, engine burning gasket replaced, electrical electrical radio cassette plays sides a/b simutaneously and station are staticky, radio replaced once problem still exist but can not be duplicated, back right passenger door stick and transmission will not change into 3rd gear.

Interior and dash lights flicker over railroad tracks or a hard bump. Also, engine check light came on twice, and vehicle shook vipolently. In addition,doors do not fitcorrectly because they freeze andare difficult to open.

Headlights went out, not the bulbs or fuses, but from corrosion in wiring. This car is less than 3 yrs old! we checked on the internet and found others w/ same yr/make/model/miles with same problem is very dangerous... We did not realize the lights were out at first and drove some distance w/o headlights. The high beams work if they are turned on just the regular headlights wiring is faulty. [email protected] has reported the same problem in the same car with only 37,000 miles. Gm hotline answerer says this is not a problem. Hopefully it doesn't take a fatality accident for them to change their minds. Thank you.

When exiting the freeway after driving approximately 30 minutes, the cavalier quit running at the top of the ramp.this was at evening rush hour and several cars were behind, trying to exit. I could not restart the vehicle.cars were honking as i was in the lane and could not get out of the way.we had the vehicle towed.we had the entire fuel pump/sender unit replaced.vehicle then seemed to operate okay, but two days later after driving on the freeway again, the exact same problem occurred.this was morning rush hour and the exit lane on the off-ramp had no shoulder...cars were coming quickly up the ramp and i was nearly hit more than once, even with my hazard lights on.towed vehicle again.told that it was a fuse.replaced fuse and took vehicle again.same problem happened a third time.i replaced fuse.took to dealer who said that wire was loose from fuel pump replacement.they secured wire.has now happened five more times.i have fuses in car in case of problem.car is now at electrical shop for review.last time it happened on july 1, i was entering the hov lane on the freeway!luckily there was a small area in which to stop.replaced fuse and get on...this is very scary as it just quits without notice (no check engine light or anything!)

#1. Air bag and seat belt intermittently flash approx once a second, for 10 to 15 seconds when the car is stopped or moving. Dealer could not duplicate. They did a scan with tech 2 and found no codes set. They said this is normal operation. I am concerned about the air bag not deploying in an accident given other reports of no air bag deployment listed on your web site.#2 if turn signal lever is not moved to the physical stop for a flash to pass, only the rear turn signals will flash. They flash fast just like when one bulb is burned out. Dealer said this is normal. #3 this is the 2.4l engine. Upon deccelarating from at least 2nd gear almost to a stop and then accelerating, the trans hesitates slightly and thumps into gear. Then the upshift into 2nd gear is not a smooth shift but very hard. Even though mechanic acknowledged experiencing the problem during a test drive we both made together, he states he could not duplicate complaint on the paperwork. Scan test ok, no codes, ok at this time. It seems to me, if there is no codes set in the control module then there can not be a problem. What did mechanics do before cars had computer control modules? did they actually have to do some work to identify what was wrong?by the way, i am a computer engineer and have been one for 35 years. I plan to continue persuing this problem.i also own a 1998 cavalier with the 2.2l engine and a 1999 buick century with the 3.1l engine. The 1998 cavailer has the same turn signal problem but not the other 2 problems. The century has none of these problems.

Wiring harness for head lamps broken at piviot in tilt steering colum causing all lights to go out.

After recall99v218000repairs were completed problem got worse.

Engine shakes when first started n when idling, but not when driving. Hoses n belts r not in good shape. Not sure about the air bags but seen on this site that there was a problem. I have seen that there areor where, quit a few recalls that were not taken care of. Especially safety ones.

While traveling 72 mph engine blewout without any indication. Vehicle was serviced by dealer, technician noticed exhaust blew into coolant system which blew the engine. Please provider further information. Ts...

Gasket cylinder head was replaced, also experiencing problems with cooling system.

Car temperature gauge indicated car running hot, drove it 3 miles to safety, engine ceased, warped heads.no prior notice of overheating, never overheated before this incident; engine had to be replaced.warranty company inspected, said water pump and thermostat failed, both were manufacturer parts, which caused engine to overheat and severe damage.i was not reimbursed by warranty for engine, i had to pay myself, $3000.00 - if manufacturer defects than warranty co should pay!

I also have a 1999 chevy cavalier z24 and the dash has cracked at the middle of the windshield...also doors freeze shut in winter...problems with water pump...it seized up and caused problems with the timing chain & serpentine belt...resulted in a lot of expense to fix...repairman stated the most of the parts on these engines should have been recalled...lots of issues with them....love my car but it's getting expensive to repair now that it's older...

Gas gauge, speedometer and temperature light will not work. At the same time all of the panel lights will come on - gas light, engine light, brake light, etc. Then all of the sudden everything will work properly. About a two years ago i noticed the air was blowing warmer than usual so i took my car in to get freon put in my car thinking it was low....after about 3 days, it started blowing warm again. I took it back and they thought there was maybe a leak, so they put dye in the system...i took it back 2 days later, and they found there were leaks throughout the entire system. I was told the entire system needed to be replaced, which was going to cost about $1500-$2000 (incl. Labor) i was outraged by this, as the car wasn't even 5 years old!! i maintained the car just as i should have been. (i have a relative who is a mechanic, and so he always does the service on my car!) i am just curious if there are others with this same problem, and if so, what was done about it?

On more than one occasion, the cigarette lighter has been launched out after being heated up. It has landed in my lap while driving as well as going under the car seat while driving. This is very dangerous and i do not want to burn myself or have to try to find a red hot lighter under my seat while driving. They did a scan with tech 2 and found no codes set. They said this is normal operation. I am concerned about the air bag not deploying in an accident given other reports of no air bag deployment listed on your web site.#2 if turn signal lever is not moved to the physical stop for a flash to pass, only the rear turn signals will flash. They flash fast just like when one bulb is burned out. Dealer said this is normal. #3 this is the 2.4l engine. Upon deccelarating from at least 2nd gear almost to a stop and then accelerating, the trans hesitates slightly and thumps into gear. Then the upshift into 2nd gear is not a smooth shift but very hard. Even though mechanic acknowledged experiencing the problem during a test drive we both made together, he states he could not duplicate complaint on the paperwork. Scan test ok, no codes, ok at this time. It seems to me, if there is no codes set in the control module then there can not be a problem. What did mechanics do before cars had computer control modules? did they actually have to do some work to identify what was wrong?by the way, i am a computer engineer and have been one for 35 years. When i bought the car in springfield mo., i only had 8 miles on the car when i drove it off the lot. I live in rolla which is only 110 miles at the most. I drove straight home and the mileage showed 265 miles, twice the mileage. Also, the car shakes and grinds when starting. They found nothing wrong with it. That was when it had less than 1000 miles. Fuel lines or something smells heavy with gas. My car eats gas more than my astro van. They said nothing was wrong. I have put three cooling systems in this car they said was wrong. Fuel pump failed on expressway driving. Engine abruptly died and would not restart. Car was pushed to shoulder of expressway and towed to dealer who replaced fuel pump assembly and sender module.

While driving down the freeway the car stopped moving.had it towed into the chevrolet dealership and they stated the clutch & 3rd & 4th gear went out.was not covered under warranty and they stated that this problem does not happen very often to other similar cars.i talked with an individual that has been servicing chevy cars for 22 years.he stated this is a major problem with manual transmission cars that the hydraulic system malfunctions which causes the clutch to not disengage and burns up the clutch and ruins the transmission.when the car stopped with no warning almost caused a major accident on the highway.after they fixed the car two days later i was on the same highway and the clutch burned up again.it is now back the dealership to be repaired.

#1. Air bag and seat belt intermittently flash approx once a second, for 10 to 15 seconds when the car is stopped or moving. Dealer could not duplicate. They did a scan with tech 2 and found no codes set. They said this is normal operation. I am concerned about the air bag not deploying in an accident given other reports of no air bag deployment listed on your web site.#2 if turn signal lever is not moved to the physical stop for a flash to pass, only the rear turn signals will flash. They flash fast just like when one bulb is burned out. Dealer said this is normal. #3 this is the 2.4l engine. Upon deccelarating from at least 2nd gear almost to a stop and then accelerating, the trans hesitates slightly and thumps into gear. Then the upshift into 2nd gear is not a smooth shift but very hard. Even though mechanic acknowledged experiencing the problem during a test drive we both made together, he states he could not duplicate complaint on the paperwork. Scan test ok, no codes, ok at this time. It seems to me, if there is no codes set in the control module then there can not be a problem. What did mechanics do before cars had computer control modules? did they actually have to do some work to identify what was wrong?by the way, i am a computer engineer and have been one for 35 years. I plan to continue persuing this problem.i also own a 1998 cavalier with the 2.2l engine and a 1999 buick century with the 3.1l engine. The 1998 cavailer has the same turn signal problem but not the other 2 problems. The century has none of these problems.

My '99 chevrolet cavalier (z24) suffered brake failure in dec. Of 2003. The roads were icy--had been snowing all day, and it was still snowing at the time of the accident. I was traveling about 35 mph. I applied the brakes in an easy manner, but there was no braking action. The car continued at the same rate of speed. My foot felt like it was stepping on steel--there was no brake action whatsoever. I had plenty of braking distance, as i was traveling very cautiously in these snowy conditions. (there were an above average number of accidents that day due to poor weather conditions.) i had been traveling this same stretch of road for many blocks and it was a stop and go 40 mph stretch of road. A lexus suv was parked at a semaphore intersection waiting at a red light. I declared brake failure at the scene, and after the officer had cleared the scene i noticed my abs warning light was on and would not go off. I immediately took the car to have the brakes analyzed and documented for brake failure. The brake failure was duly noted and analyzed and i was told the abs motor needed repair. When i had the repairs done at the dealership i was told there was an additional component that needed repair. The brake failure itself was alarming, but what is additionally disturbing is that i had my brakes repaired in jan. Of 2003, because i complained the abs system was making strange, rattling noises --like it was falling apart. The dealership fixed the brakes, saying there was nothing wrong with the abs system and they instead fixed the pads and rotars on the brakes. I thought it was odd when i looked at the bill and they said "customer complains of 'squealing brakes'. I never described the noise as squealing. Instead i complained the abs noise was different than i had ever heard--a sound like nuts and bolts coming lose and falling apart.

I brought a 1999 chevy cavalier in dec 08'.since jan 09' i have been having severe locking of the rear brakes.i have taken it to three different mechanics so far and the problem still persist.currently i am unable to pass a motor vehicle inspection due to this problem.at all three facilities i used to try and repair this problem i was informed by the mechanic that this problem is common among gm vehicles. I have spent at least approximately $600 dollars on this problem and it still persist. The mechanics that i have taken it to have adjusted the brakes several times but the rear brakes are still locking for what seems like no apparent reason all three mechanics say the brake assembly looks good but i am still not able to pass inspection. I was told at the motor vehicle inspection station that this problem will cause me to fish tail either causing injury to passengers in my car or possibly others.

Well, i have a 1999 chevrolet cavalier, the basic model, nothing fancy. The abs brake light will not go off. I was told itwas just the light and not to worry about it. The front end shook,causingthe whole car to vibrate, and sometimes clickedwhendrivingonthe road. The only way i have found to stop it was to steer the wheel a bit, but that made me go into the other side of the road. There was no rear defroster, making it very hard time to see out of the back window when it was all fogged up. When iattemptingto stop sometimes the brakestooka minute to start working or they just pulsated,and it was hard to stop fast if i had to, i could go on and on so much more about the car, but i think onegets the drift about it . Abs brakes are far too sensitive.it is nearly impossible to stop on a snowy grade.

After an accident, my right rear door will not open from the inside. Occasionally, you cannot start it on the first try. The brakes lock and the tires do not tread although they are both under 6 months old.

At any speeds in wet or rain condition brake stopping distance is almost doubled from dry road use, vehicle is equipped with factory spoke alloy wheels . On inspection of rotor/caliper area it is evedent that no kind of shield around rotor allows water to get on rotors , possible this particular vehicle is missing shields or this is a design flaw.

One or more front rotors warped--dealer contacted, but claims warped rotor (even at 30k miles) is considered "normal wear and tear" under gm warranty, and thus not covered.

Top brake pins came completely out of the brake caliper .metal part ofbrakes werebent up.no injuries because ofbrake failure. The failed right front brake caliper was repaired by the consumer himself.the consumeralsostates that it was the third time the brakes were replaced in less than two year.

Had to have rotors turned at 14,000 miles; then found they were rusted and needed to be replaced at 33,200 miles. Found there was no backing plate to keep rotors from rusting; dealer admits nothing about design flaw and says the repair is not under warranty. Had rotors and brake pads replaced at a surprisingly honest midas, where they said it's likely i will need to do this all again in two years because of the poor design of the disc brake system.

The brake line erupted and caused loss of brake fluid when it leaked onto the transmission while driving. Arepair shop made repairs. Consumer stated the brake line was left out of the clamp that holds the brake line on transmission causing it to vibrate and eventually rubbing a hole into the line.

The steering wheel was difficult to turn.

When i bought the car in springfield mo., i only had 8 miles on the car when i drove it off the lot. I live in rolla which is only 110 miles at the most. I drove straight home and the mileage showed 265 miles, twice the mileage. Also, the car shakes and grinds when starting. They found nothing wrong with it. That was when it had less than 1000 miles. Fuel lines or something smells heavy with gas. My car eats gas more than my astro van. They said nothing was wrong. I have put three cooling systems in this car they said was wrong. Fuses keep burning out. I have replaced 65 bulbs, they said nothing is wrong. It's much worse now. When i turn the car the steering sticks then goes into the turn, they said nothing was wrong. Engine shakes when first started n when idling, but not when driving. Hoses n belts r not in good shape. Not sure about the air bags but seen on this site that there was a problem. I have seen that there areor where, quit a few recalls that were not taken care of. Especially safety ones.

She also noticed that the lights on the instrument panel, and headlights, were also faulty. The bulbs in the left rear turn signal and brake light burned out and melted after they were used three to four times. The contact called the local dealer to ask about related recalls and was informed that there were no open recalls for her vehicle; however, the contact found eight recalls for her year, make and model vehicle. The current mileage was approximately 100,000. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000.

I purchased a new 1999 chevy cavalier in march 1999 and began hearing creaking sounds coming from the steering column one year after purchase.since the car was under warranty i took it the chevy dealership where i purchased it for repair.they greased some parts to diminish the noise.i took the car in 2 other times to have it looked at and the same action was taken, no parts were ever replaced.recently i took the car to a chevy dealership and i was told the whole steering column needs to be replaced for about $2300.there are multiple complaints and warnings to mechanics that consumers may come to them with these issues listed over the last 9 years.therefore, this is a flaw with the vehicle that until now chevrolet has not taken responsibility for.currently the vehicle is still making the noise and i was warned if the wheel starts to "stiffen up" to come back immediately as the danger of losing control of the vehicle is extremely high.

Steering-noise when turning steering wheel, in any direction. Took to a repair shop and was told i needed new bearings in the steering column.

Dt:the contact stated while pulling out of a parking spot the steering wheel spun around freely without the vehicle moving.the vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop.they diagnosed that the coupling where the intermediate shaft meets the steering wheel slid out, leaving the bolt in the steering completely intact.the vehicle has been repaired, but is still at the shop.the manufacturer was contacted, but refused to assist due to the number of miles on the vehicle.

I was driving down the street and was hearing this whining noise. The next day i pulled into the parking lot at work and it was difficult to turn the wheel. I called the shop i take my car to, and set up an appointment to have them check it out the next day. I took it to them and they said a metal piece underneath the car had rubbed against the tube that carries the power steering fluid. I asked them what had caused it and they said it was the way the car was designed.

Same defective bearing problem in steering as 2000 and chevrolet caviliers. Bearing is noisy when wheel is turned. Could cause steering wheel to freeze or lockup upon binding. Bearing is a universal swival type bearing located at the bottom of the steering column, just in frontof the firewall and is covered by a rubber boot. The bearing makes a noise when the steering wheel is turned. The noise goes away when the bearing is sprayed over and over with wd-40, but comes back after a thousand miles of driving. Other 2000 - 2002 cavaliers were recalled because of the problem, but the 1999 cavaliers are having the same problem like this one and should also be brought to the dealers attention and recalled.

While driving about 60 mph over a wet surfacelost control of vehicle, stricking trees in frontal collision,butair bags did not deploy.

Recall 02v286000 concerning power steering assembly. The steering wheel intermittently locked up when making left turns. Consumersaw on nhtsa website that there was arecall on this problem involving1996-1998 vehicles, but the 1999 vehicle was not included in this recall. The dealer replaced the power steering gear assembly.

Our daughter alicia came to a complete stop at oak street, she made a left hand turnonto broadway.when the steering wheel was coming back out of the turn it jerked it out of her hand and her car swerved to the right and she ran over a grate over drainage and hit curb which blew out two front tires, then she jumped curb stopping car one foot from tree.she had only one tire left on road other three were in yard. Alicia was not injured, though she was very shaken up.we called adr which sent a towing truck to the 1700 block of broadway to pick her car up.there was a mrs. Petry who was behind alicia when this happened.she sta;yed with alicia until i arrived on the scene.no police report was filed though a police car did drive by while we were waiting for a tow truck. I called gm immediately to see if there was any recalls on the rack and pinion.i called again on monday, july 22, but i did not have vehicle # in front of me.i called back on july 24th wednesday about 10:30 a. M. In the meantime i have been on internet and i have spoken to a few people who know things about cars. I have found out that gm has had numerous problems with rack and pinion for years..there has even been recalls.i talked to a cynthia mcdonald on july 24th about 10:30 a.m. And she took down a lot of information about what happened where vehicle is , so forth.she assigned #1-187-50-241 and sent this information tothe product allocation resolution dept.and told me that i would for sure hear something in two business days.i called on monday and was told that don latimer #57748 at the business resource center at 1-800-231-1841 had this file and should contact me before the end of the day.on tuesday i was too busy at work to call. On wednesday july 31, i called at least three times and left at least t wo voice mails for mr. Latimer .i was told not to get the car fixed until i heard back from gm, i am afraid that i will be charged storage.

Vehicle is experiencing ongoing brake problems, front rotors have warped several times and have been replaced, brake pads and the caliper mounting sleeves have also been replaced, the brake light and abs light were illuminated at the same time, dealer stated that this was due to a faulty ebcm computer module which had been bad for a while, brake problems still exists.driver's side axle seal leaked.consumer stated that the front end seemed loose while driving, dealer found no problems with the steering linkages.the blower control switch was replaced due to blower inoperable on high.

Consumer stated that every 4500 miles rack and pinion steering malfunctioned.consumer contacted the dealer, and the manufacturer indicated that they will give consumer $600.00 credit towards a new vehicle. This was unacceptable to the consumer.

Carstarted being hard to steer to the left and it was intermittent. It just started that morning of 5-28-05 . I was going down a steep hill and it became hard to turn it on a curve going off to the right. I proceeded slowly and as i attempted to make another left turn something snapped under the floorboards of the car and it would no longer turn at all-it would only go forwards or backwards. I had to call a tow truck who towed it to the chevrolet dealer i bought it from and they informed me the steering gear box totally had to be replaced at a total cost of over $1800.it took the dealer 5 days to complete this repair and they kept the old parts

Power steering rack needs replacing with less than 14 months ownership.the car was purchased new in tennessee. The diagnostic and estimate of the repair was provided by nalley chevrolet. I am unsure of the risk of driving the car safely until i can afford the >$1100 repair. The car has not been involved in any kind or type oaf accident.please advise.

Dashboard is cracking near windshield in the center. Contacted dealer, and dealer glued it into place, but remedy did not work for long,problemreoccurred.

After an accident, my right rear door will not open from the inside. Occasionally, you cannot start it on the first try. The brakes lock and the tires do not tread although they are both under 6 months old.

The sub-frame on the passenger side of my vehicle was almost completely rusted through along with the brake line on that side.the air conditioning overflow tube was releasing water onto that piece of metal.although we do not know for sure if this was the cause the drivers side is not like that. Could have just been cheap metal.on nov 30 of 07 i was driving my car to work and it just did not feel right.when you drive a car everyday you notice these things but cannot put your finger on it.the next day i went to the grocery store and the suspension felt very loose through the steering wheel and it felt like it was not turning correctly. The more i drove the worse it got.on the way home i drove only 20 miles an hour with my hazard lights on praying i would get home without incident or accident.it felt like the whole front end was going to fall off.thank the good lord i did get home alright.my husband pulled of both wheels starting with left and then right and discovered the problem.we took pictures and called a tow truck to take it to our preferred auto shop.both the tow truck driver and the guy at the shop said we were very lucky that nothing bad happened that we actually could have lost the front end. In all the cars that we have owned nothing like this has ever happened although this is the first and only chevy we have had.

Driving down street heard a bang got out found driver side tire hitting fender toe truck came and should me that sub frame broke talk to several people said should never happen.

Normal driving my fathers car the frame broke on the right hand side just past the lower control arm. Looks to be metal fatigue. I can send pictures if needed.

The high beams and day time running lights fail intermittenly. *mr the wires rubbed underneath the battery tray.(found corroded splices in the harness under the battery tray)the running light indicator on the dashboard was off again and the high beam indicator was always on when the headlight switch was in either position.the problem with the running lights was yet another corroded and shorted out a wire form the electrical harness.(found wiring c101 corroded and circuit 1200 at c101 was repaired)the check engine light was not caused by a bad sensor, but another bad wire leading to a sensor.(found wiring to the vent solenoid bad)there was a loud clunk noise in the rear when hitting large bumps due to worn rear strut mounts. *sc

I have a 1999 cavalier, purchased new.approximately 1 year ago my dashboard cracked up around the center of the windshield for no reason.since my car was no longer under warranty i did not pursue the problem.however, in the meantime, my daughter purchased used the same make & year of car and she has the same problem.the vehicles have never been in an accident and i am wondering if this is a defect with this particular model.also, my doors freeze shut all winter long.can anything be done about this?

Vehicle accelerates on its own, after consumer removes his foot from gas pedal, the pedal has remianed locked in a depressed position causing the car's engine to continue running, as if pressure wre still being applied to the pedal, as a result the car will continue to accelerate and at times has achieved speeds of up to 80 mph, consumer has been able to disengage the gas pedal from its locked position by either pumping the pedal until it is released or shifting the transmission into neutral, the car will slow down, but the gas pedal remains locked in a depressed position, and the continued running of the cars engine causes the wheels to grind against the brakes, vehicle has been taken in to dealer, but no one has been able to diagnose problem.

Was at full stop and when accelerating gas pedal hung up, causing car to accelerate to 95 miles per hour then slamming brakes pedal released and car made 90 degree spin.

Three power door windows on my 4 door chevrolet cavalier don't work, onlydriver door window will go up and down. Had motor on front passenger window replaced already. Shortly after being replaced, it stopped working like the back two passenger windows.
