Since the end of august 2002, my car has been falling apart.it all started when my air conditioner stopped working.i had freon put back into it, but after a few days, the freon was gone.the mechanic put a dye into the system to see if there was a leak, but he couldn't see any problem.my car has always overheated in traffic.oil is leaking from my head gaskets.now, it is having trouble starting periodically.i was in camden when it wouldn't start. Now i'm afraid to drive it.when i start the car, a clicking noise comes from the starter.oh yeah, i had the starter "fixed" a year ago because of the recall.there is a noise coming from my alternator.i don't know if it is the alternator or the starter that's keeping the car from starting.from what i've seen in my car and the complaints from others, this is not a reliable car.

Alternator failed.

On 10/2/00 i had my 95 chevy cavalier towed to 2 dealers, bryner chevrolet (they would not accept the warranty) and then to the dealer i purchased the vehicle, ne auto outlet because the car would not start. On 09/25/00 my car began to start with a hesitation. Each day thereafter it got worse. On 09/25/00 i replaced the battery thinking that the battery may have been the problem. That did not help. By thursday the problem worsened so i called bryner chevrolet and made an appointment. I could not get an appointment until 10/3/00. On 9/30/00 the car would no longer start at all. On 10/2/00 i had the car towed to bryner and then to ne auto outlet as i stated before. I was told that ne auto outlet could not look at the car until 10/3/00. I received a call at 11:30am from joe didonato at ne that i needed an ignition switch and an alternator. I was told that the bad components were draining the battery. I was also told that i needed a new serpentine belt. I had the serpentine belt replaced twice before at bryner chevrolet on 5sep97 and 6feb98. It seems to be highly unusual that i would need to replace the belt almost every year on a 1995 vehicle with only 27961 miles on it. I don't even drive 5,000 miles a year. I feel the same about having to replace the ignition switch and the alternator/generator.i have had 3 recalls since i purchased the vehicle. Hazard lamp, leaking cylinder (head gasket was replaced), and pcm assy. The problem with the belt has been ongoing with noise in the pulley area of the belt. The noise began again a few days after the recalls on the head gasket and pcm assy.

Vehicle stalls intermittently in traffic.dealer states it's a problem with the ignition.

The ignition failed which caused the steering column and key to get hot while in use...

My wife drive this car. It was taken into the dealer 4-5 times to get a stalling problem fixed. During one trip the replaced a head gasket at 77,764 miles on a bulletin from gm. The didnt check the head for defects. The dealer told us gm only let them replace the head gasket. It is now 15 months later and 14,000 miles on it, the head gasket has failed again. Gm said it is not covered and the dealership want 1, 100 to fix it. Seems to me gm has a problem with bad head gaskets and instead of fixing the head and gasket right the first time, the just change the gasket and when it is out of warrenty stick it to the customer.

Due toignition failure vehicle had stalled.

While driving on highway doing 60mph car suddenly and without any warning lost all power and stalled. Car would not restart & had to be towed. This has happened 2 other times before. Car was taken to dealer and they said that nothing is wrong. This is a very unsafe condition.

This 95 cavalier was taken in to the dealer for recall #99088 concerning the pcm. They performed a vehicle inspection at that time and noted under "major service" that it has a "bad head gasket leak." we have kept it under control using aftermarket stop-leak type products, but it is only a temporary fix. If this is such a common failure, does a recall exist to cover the replacement? i have read about this being a common defect in this vehicle.

In feb 2000 the front axle of my car broke while it was bing backed out of a parking space. Prior to that it had made a large clunking noise on a few occasions. After i took it to the dealer and had several very expensive repairs made it continued to make the clunking noise, and the front end was shaking . After replacing the wheel and bearing the car continued to shake and pull on the front end a ndclunk. We finally brought it to a new mechanic who found that the engine mounts were severly worn, and they felt that the engine moving around in the engine compartment was causing the clunking sound. They also felt the broken mounts allowed the engine to strike the axle leading to it breaking in feb. The mounts were replaced. The new mechanic said that they had replaced this part on quite a few 95 cavaliers. This was potentially life threatening.

The head gasket was replaced on 5/1/97, 11/13/98, and 3/23/00, as directed by nhtsa, however the work has not yet solved the problem.i am told that the vehicle no longer qualifies for repair under chevrolet special policy # 98054a, covering the admittedly faulty cylinder head/gasket.the dealership says that i must now pay for the repair, which must include replacement or repair of the cylinder head.this was not included in the previous work but apparently should have been.

Engine coolant leaks because of a failure in the clinder head gasket they have no recall, only a letter#c98054 which says they will replace at no charge for 7yrs or 100,000miles.they refuse to replace mine because i have a rebuilt salvage title, the car is like new with the original engine.antifreeze leaking on our environment is not good, why has there not been a recall?

This 95 cavalier was taken in to the dealer for recall #99088 concerning the pcm. They performed a vehicle inspection at that time and noted under "major service" that it has a "bad head gasket leak." we have kept it under control using aftermarket stop-leak type products, but it is only a temporary fix. If this is such a common failure, does a recall exist to cover the replacement? i have read about this being a common defect in this vehicle.

Engine flywheel failed. *sd

This is the 4th failure of the cylinder head gasket since 3/99...gm and the dealer refused to fix this latest failure under warranty.

While driving, thick heavy smoke came from head gasket, also anti-freeze leaked from vehicle. This was the third time this matter had occurred. Took to dealer. It has been repaired twice, and it was happening again.

Head gasket failed.

The first incident with my 1995 base model chevrolet cavalier was when the horn stopped working, when i needed it most on a freeway when someone was about to hit me while changing lanes.the horn failed, and it had to be replaced at a cost of about $100, which i covered, since the vehicle was recently off of warranty.months later, the trunk latch refused to work.i could not open the trunk from the rear or from the inside of the car.in late 2000, my brakes were making grinding noises.turns out the rotors were badly warped at 50,000 miles.now, 15,000 miles later, the brakes are grinding again, which leads me to believe that the rotors may once again be warped.at the beginning of 2002, i took my car in for a routine inspection, only to discover that the head gasket was cracked and leaking coolant all over my engine.the head gasket had to be replaced, which was a very costly repair.only recently have i heard that this may or may not be covered by a "secret" warranty up to 7 years or 100,000 miles, something i wish i had been notified of before this happened.finally, within weeks of the head gasket repair, the plastic on the driver's seatbelt snapped off, so now i must have the entire seatbelt replaced.i am very disappointed with all of the problems i have experienced with this car, and i have heard that other cavalier owners have had even worse experiences than me!i would like to see general motors stand by their products and at least reimburse me for some of the head gasket repair cost, which was nearly seven hundred dollars, but this may only be a pipe dream.there should be a recall on the cavalier engine head gaskets for the 2.2 l engines.this seems to be a long-running problem on cavaliers throughout the 1990s that gm has yet to publicly admit or address.what will it take for them to recall it, someone dying on the road when his or her car either stalls in busy traffic or catches on fire?

I continued to apply the brakes because of the sharp curve and concrete barrier and steering ability returned just before hitting the concrete barrier.both incidents happened on a curve, once to the right and once on a left curve.

Leak inside of trunk due to a defective seal around gasket.

The engine check light/coolant lightcame on when driving fast, letting driver know to check coolant. Coolant was pouring out through the air conditioning line.within a minute the fluid was all gone. Consumer has gone through five heater cores. July 16, september11 and november 24.also blew the head gasket on december 22, 1997. Vehicle is now being repaired for heater core. Due to defective heater core, there was engine damage. Dealer said they have done everything manufactured.told them to do, but they still could not find a cause for defects.

The check engine light has been coming on and off. You can drive the car and it will not come on for 2 weeks and then it comes on 10 minutes after you start the car. Then it will do this for 4-5 weeks, and then nothing will happen. It has been in the shop and when it comes out the car is fine and the check engine light does not come on, and then about 1 month later it starts all over again. I am not sure if it is a short or if it is something else. It also has a tendency to come on after the car hits a bump too hard.

I was traveling about 60 mph on a highway when the panel lights came on and the car quit.i traveled about 10ft when thecar came to a halt and would not go any more.after about 15 minutes, i tried turned the key and the car started.i traveled about 15 miles with the car almost stalling 2 to 3 times along the way.it started fine for the next 4 days and almost stalled another 5 times.during this time the engine light would flicker.after 5 days the car wouldn't start, at all.it had to be towed and fixed.this is related to the modulator and crank sensor.in regards to the serpentine tensioners and belt, the first belt was replaced after it was squeking.while driving, at about 40 mph, i forget which light came on, but i had to pull into a midas station and they diagnosed that the tensioners had to be replaced.this previous belt was also squeeking before the tensioner was replaced.
