All 4 exhaust manifold bolts snapped off clean within their housings. My ase mechanic (mark at mark's auto in rocky hill, ct. 860-721-7033) determined that the bolts must have been of inferior quality to have snapped off the way they did. There was no indication of metal spurs which might indicate the bolts would have been loose within their housings. This was not the case. I have been informed that general motors has had this same problem in the past.thank you for reading my problem, and thank you in advance for any assistance you may provide to me.

The gasoline vapors are being sucked into the passenger compartment and making passengers sick. Please describe.

The fuel pump in tank appears to have overheated causing the connection plug to overheat and melt the connector and wire. This vehicle is a police patrol car and was in being driven in regualr service when it began to stall. The officer restarted tha car sveral times as he drove it back to the station. Our repair shop drove the car into the service bay and performed regular diagostic service. The fuel pressure was tested at 70 lbs. Chevrolet spec is 41 to 47 lbs. We pulled the pump and found the pump powere wire and plug melted. Our concern is that this wire being submersed inside the fuel tank could have caused an explosion if the fuel level had been low. The heat generated from this problem area should have caused an interuption in power to the pump before the wire and connector were hot enough to melt. We are calling in all caprices to inspect this problem.

Wiring harness to fuel pump (inside fuel tank)somehow shorted out causing wiring to get hot enough to melt the wire insulation and plastic connectors, which attach to the fuel pump.

Fuel pump failure caused stall at highway speed, although the fuse was blown, wiring harness melted at the fuel pump and tank sending unit suggesting lethal concerns for safety.

Vehicle experiences uncontrollable idling which results in excessive pressure to brakes. Dealers states meets specifications. Please describe details.

Fuel leak at tank first occurred april 22 this year. Fuel level sender seal replaced. May !7fuel level sender defective, fuel leak. Replaced fuel tank, sending unit seal, fuel pump.today-july 18, massive fuel leak at tank with gasoline puddling under car while engine idling.20 minutes of idling caused over 1 gallon of fuel to be expelled from tank. Inspection shows possible defect in fuel vapor recovery system causing excess fuel tank pressure, sufficient to cause fuel tank seal failure where sending unit mounts to tank. This is a very serious problem. A discarded cigarette could cause fuel vapors to ignite. This leak will continue to occur until source of excessive fuel tank pressure can be determined.it may be the result of failure to maintain fuel vapor recovery system or a component failure.if so, why should a failure result in massive fuel leakage?this is a problem with life threatening potential and should receive your highest priority in follow up.

Connector in fuel tank is deteriorating, fuel pump connector failed, the insulation on the wire melted, arcing at the connector leaving a carbon trail.*jg

Right and left rear door striker plate latch cracked around mounting area.

Nhtsa#95-v-221-000; these vehicles were produced with an improperly adjusted transmission shift control linkage. This does not meet with the requirements of fmvss no. 114, "theft protection." consumer has the same problem. However this vehicle was not recall due to the vin.

The contact owns a 1995 chevrolet caprice.the contact stated that the automatic transmission was leaking while driving 55 mph.chevrolet stated that the vin was not included in recall number 95v221000 (power train:automatic transmission).the contact also stated that the power steering was leaking and that the vehicle would shift from park to drive occasionally, without the key in the ignition.the powertrain and purchase date were unknown.the current mileage was 78,000 and failure mileage was 77,000.

Transmission failure.

Car began to vibrate badly at eleven thousand miles thought it was a front end problem took it back to bobbarrows june 1998 under the express warranty on the car. Said to have been repaired, same story twenty times plus over the next two years. Replaced new transmission new drive shaft and umpteen other parts.new transmission damaged by the vibrating drive shaft had to have rear seal replaced.car vibrates quite violently at speeds from 25 to 55 miles per hour worse in overdrive than standard drive.barrows and chevrolet now tell me that the problem is mine, that they have no idea what is wrong with the car and never have known what was causing the problem. The vibration is becoming progressively worse. It is a dangerous car to drive and is still under warranty beecause of the freezing of the express warranty when they failed to repair it.in july 99 when they were given the ultimatum of that being the last chance to fix it.chevrolet and barrows have failed to live up to the original warranty on this car. Because it is so nervewracking to drive i have only managed to drive it 21000 miles in four years between reapairs at something like two weekly intervals. I winder how many more there are out there like this one or whether barrows is just incompetent. They have been backed up by chevrolet technical services every step of the way.

Came past the stop line at a railroad track, saw train was approaching and tried to back up.....no reverse!!!no prior warning or signs of defects.....had to get out and push vehicle off of tracks to prevent a catastrophic collision. Took to a number of transmission shops and found out that gm issued a number of service bulletins regarding the reaction shell failure issue but they never took responsibility to issue a recall......thousands of people have had this same issue with the no reverse problem due to the reaction sun shell failing.......gm should stillissue a recall!!!!!! does it have to take a loss of life to have a recall issued? this is a serious safety hazard and needs to be looked at.....

Thesprings popped out of the plastic, causing the spring to no longer hold tension.the driver's side seat belt would no longer hold the belt tensioner to adjust to the driver's body.the seat belts retractor spring had broken through the plastic retainer, which caused the belt to stay permanently in the full extended position. *sc

Steering wheel broke. *sd

Steering wheel collapsed (broke off) at the two horizontal points - - 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock points at a routine "rocking" at a stop.not an emergency stop or sudden stop; just a routine stop at a light.i had never seen this happen in any vehicle unless involved in a crash, much less from a frail man as myself who does not possess superhuman powers.i asked mechanics if they had ever seen this occur and the answer was negative.i contacted kelly chevrolet (hallandale, fl) and they also told me to never have seen this happen, unless the vehicle was in an crash. Since then i have contacted gm and have received nothing but run-arounds.they assigned it case no. 1-21646074, then, they got it mixed up with someone else's case by the name of fennimore.i replied to them to correct the name error and provide them with further info and i received two replies from two different representatives within 3 hours of each other.the first one, a ms. Nejdi, who said to continue working with the original representative (a ms. Weir, whom had done absolutely nothing, other than mix me up with a mr. Fennimore).the second response came from the original representative (ms. Weir, addressing me as mr. Fennimore, again).she said in this email the case had been closed due to my lack of response.in fact, i had responded and even attempted to correct her error of the name and said correction was acknowledged by ms. Nejdi, as prevously stated herein.the disturbing part about this is gm's failure to acknowledge this is a very serious potential safety issue.a steering wheel should not collapse at a routine stop regardless of the age or mileage of the car without being involved in a crash.gm is acting totally incompetent in handling the complaint as well as irresponsible by ignoring a serious safety issue.i have saved each email to and from gm to prove their disregard for safety and mishandling of the matter.i would appreciate the nthsa's involvement in this case.

Total front end suspension system failure, missing bushings and shams.nlm

In a shopping center making a right 90 degree turn at estimated speed of 15mph when left front of car collapsed dropping the left front fender down on the left front wheel.mechanic repairing the car stated that the left lower ball joint broke off.this required replacement of the let lower ball joint (part #k6145) and the left outer tierod (part# es2019rl.there was no pothole or other rough place in the roadway and the automobile had no previous history of accident.my concern for entering this report is that i had never heard of this type of failure before though the mechanic says it occasionally occurs.in my mind this presents a very real safety hazard.had this autombile been traveling at 60mph on and open road and this had occured there is no doubt in my mind that this would have resulted in suddenly flipping and rolling of the car with the very real probability of loss of life.
