My caprice classic was in my driveway and had not been moved for about 1 hour. After an hour from my car being moved, my car caught on fire. The dash was engulfed in flames when i was made aware that my car was even on fire from a neighborhood kid.i quickly tried to put it out and did so. By the time it had died out and the smoke was gone, the entire middle and partial left side of the dash had melted to the floor of the car.my car did not have the keys in the ignition and nothing was left on. My car just caught on fire by itself.my mother had bought the car from the dealer new and i bought it from her. No modifications had been made to it and everything is original from the maker/dealer/cchevrolet. I noticed that a recall had been made regarding cars catching on fire freom a short. Defective distributor cap, causing vehicle to stall.
While driving, engine stalls out in traffic without warning, could cause accident; gm claims they do not know what's causing the problem.

The vehicle had been parked for 12 hours and a fire broke out in the engine compartment. Fire department says it's due to an electrical short.
The driver had to manually adjust the rear viewmirrors ,and had no interior lighting due to a fuse that blew out.

The contact owns a 1991 chevrolet caprice.while driving 5 mph and accelerating, the vehicle made a tapping noise.after checking the oil, the contact noticed a cream colored foam on the gauge stick.the mechanic stated that the intake manifold was not positioned properly and needed to be replaced.the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was operating normally.the intake manifold gasket was replaced three times.after changing the type of fuel he put in the vehicle, the contact noticed a slight improvement.the current mileage is 93,400 and failure mileage was 48,000.

The main rods & bearings inside the motor are rattling. Happens when vehicle is starting up. It's real loud in beginning,but after a while would be toned down. Have not taken to dealer.

I am tired of passing vehicles on a two lane blacktop in the rain that have headlights badly positioned or too bright. Are you not suppose to test new vehicles for compliance. All this new stuff only helps that vehicles driver and blinds the rest of us.also you should make these vehicles with truck size tires that sit three feet off the ground illegal. They are a safety hazard. I have seen several large vehicles that have an otherwise good safety rating in serious crashes. Twenty two inch blings kill!

Vehicle was parked and the gas was leaking from under the hood. Took vehicle to dealer and they said that it has 3 different cracks in the fuel tank. Dealer has had vehicle for 3 days. Before taking the vehicle to dealer had to drain half of the gas out of the tank to drive the vehicle to the dealer, so that the gas would not leak so badly.
The plastic fuel tank has a split,causing fuel to leak. Consumer has yet to have the tank replaced. Gas tank is manufactured with twon cone-shaoed depressions in the bottom of the tank , when the tank is installed in the vehicle, the straps holdig it in place run underneath the tankand almost cover these depressions, the tank split at the top of the right side depression and would leak gasoline if the tank was momre than about 1/3 full of fuel, consumer states the gasoline fumes were so strong he would not put the vehicle in the garage.
Consumer was filling the vehicle with fuel noticed gas leaking from the tank, consumer contacted the dealer and he replaceed the plastic gas tank broke leaks due to a cut in the seamthe tank.

Tuesday morning, august 17, 1999, i stopped and put $10.00 worth of gasoline in this vehicle, and drove to work.at lunch, i drove the vehicle to lunch, parked in the parking lot on a slight incline, and went to lunch.upon returning, we found a small group of anxious people looking at my car from a short distance.gasoline was leaking out from under it, and had run about 15' down the pavement, forming a puddle.the fire department had been called, and was on their way.we manually pushed the car away from that spot, onto level ground, and the dripping fuel stopped.when we got the car on a lift, it took the service technician about 30 minutes to identify a crack in a mold seam.he removed the tank, replaced it with a new one, and i drove to the nearest chevrolet dealer, (john smith @ 770 953 0100), whose service manager had never heard of a gas tank spontaneously failing.however, he could see that this tank had not hit anything.he referred me to the gm help line 800 number.(800 222 1020)they had also not heard of this particular failure, and after approximately 20 minutes on hold, came back on and told me that this failure would not be warranted, as the car was too old, in spite of the low mileage on the vehicle.they also opened file #990 470 854.i asked if it was reasonable for me to expect my gas tank to not leak, and was told that it was.i realize that gm is sensitive about gas leaks.well, i have, in my back yard, a gas tank that leaks, and would like something more than their sympathy.the new oem tank cost me over $600.had the gas ignited, we would not have the tank to examine.i would like them to at least want to see the tank, and think about the problem.thank you for your help.

The anti-lock brakes started to fail within the past 2-3 weeks.i took the car to lou grubb chevrolet on 7/21/99 for repairs and they replased the rr anti-lock sensor then turned the rear drums and front rotors.they said that should fix the problem to the tune of $303.00.on the way home the brakes failed again.my wife drove it yesterday and could not keep the car from lurching forward at a stop light so she slammed the transmission into park.the anti-lock brakes indicator of dis-engagement came on the dash and she drove the car home.i called the dealer and they now have the car in the shop.they tell me that "the book" tells them that i may have to replace the computer for a cost of $800-900. While driving experienced intermittent abs failure when warning light appeared, also, when attempting to slow/stop on dry pavement brake action seemed inadequate, vehicle traveled considerable distance before stopping.
Anti- lock brakes failed, car skidded ten feet then rolled about twenty feet into the back of another car that had panic stopped. Air bag did not deploy. Bumper went under other car crushing my car to the windshield. Both cars were the same size so bumpers should be at same height. The other car is a early nineties lincoln town car.

We were in the first lane of the highway and were able to control the car so we did not hit anyone else or go down the ditch to our right. We could not get the tire off the car and called aaa. They changed the tire and informed us that the other rear tire was also coming apart. The tires had about 10,000 miles on them. The tire did damage the rear of the car with the impact.we bought 2 tires in pa and then when we returned home replaced the front tires with 2 new tires. We did not have room in the car to bring the tires back to firestone. We of course bought a different brand at out own expense.traveling on a highway and your tire coming apart was a terrible experience. We were lucky that we were 100 feet away from a rest stop and we did not lose control of the car.( dot number: tire size: p225/75r15 )
